Chapter 182: Something's Taken the Bait

A looooooot being set up this chapter! The person in the beginning of this chapter is one of the space globalists/Kur. Her (?) conversation with Count Saint-Germain is like a talk with the devil, he looks for people who are vulnerable and need help to trap them into an agreement.

We also have the crew splitting up, one team to Shimane to find the hammer that can (hopefully) reverse everybody's curses, and the other team is staying behind to help Kouki as she faces the mysterious person who gave her the power-stealing knife.

Momo and Okarun's promise can come true if her curse is reversed! I'm so excited to see how this arc and what happens when they finally reunite 🥹 I also like how understanding Momo is, their friends' safety comes first. Plus the way the team is split gives more opportunity for unjiji and yukitori moments, so I approve lol.

As a continuation to my post about the DanDaDan crew not liking when a new member is added to the team.

1) Aira and Jiji’s first reaction to seeing Unji Zuma was to beat his ass. Then, even after everyone calmed down and Momo explained that Unji is on their side, Aira and Jiji still didn’t trust him.

2) Kouki Yukishiro was introduced as a minor villain. After she was defeated and brought into the group, it’s revealed she’s an old rival of Aira.

The one difference here is that in my original post, it was more about Momo and Okarun not liking it when new people joined the team. For Zuma and Kouki, it’s more centered on Aira.

It warms my heart to see them eating together as their group grows! Okarun started off all alone, but now he’s surrounded by friends. I really hope we get to see Zuma and Kouki joining them in the upcoming chapters!

This interaction explains a LOT about Aira's character, and why her feelings for Okarun feel so unserious when compared to the likes of Jiji. Aira didn't enjoy playing piano, but she cannot STAND losing to someone else, leading to her obsessively working to win. But after winning, she lost interest in piano altogether because she 'won,' and no longer had the drive to play.

For a long time now, Aira's place in the story feels way more like she is invested in Momo. Momo is the one who inspires character growth in Aira on at least two different occasions I remember (confessing to spreading rumors after the fight with Nessie, and becoming more serious about fighting when she accidentally caused the Evil Eye to attack Momo), but while Jiji is slowly moving into a position where his feelings for Momo can no longer be ignored by the other characters, Aira's interest in Okarun is basically a hamster wheel. It spins and spins, but it doesn't go anywhere. But Aira clings to it out of stubbornness because she doesn't want to admit defeat, while at the same time never making serious effort to get Okarun to see her as a viable romantic partner.

From the start, the majority of Aira's focus has been on Momo. First by convincing herself Momo was a demon that needed to be defeated. Then trying to insist that she needed to save Okarun from Momo. And now she has fallen into a comfortable pattern of throwing herself at Okarun any time Momo is around to incite Momo into arguing with her. But she ONLY does that when Momo is around, and then loses interest in Okarun the moment she and Momo start throwing hands. I suspect that's the real reason she isn't doing anything to either try and seriously progress her relationship with Okarun or bowing out the way Rin and Vamola did once they realized that they were better as friends rather than trying to get between Momo and Okarun. Because she is afraid that if she doesn't push the idea of liking Okarun or makes a serious effort and either 'wins' or gets turned down and can't justify pushing herself on him any longer, she'll lose the frienemy relationship she developed with Momo.

And in the end, what keeps Aira going is the competition, not the trophy she earns when she wins.

Lowkey for the big momokarun kiss scene (I'm predicting it's when she gets unshrunk), I want it to be followed up with a platonic kiss for everyone that joined the gang along the way.

Chapter 180: The Owner of the Kozuka Knives

The gang trying to act inconspicuous while Kouki goes undercover to find the culprit. Everybody looking away from her but Vamola just making persistent eye contact lol.

How many people is Count Saint-Germain recruiting?!?! Everybody is an enemy at this point. He gives powers to people with the white kozuka knife and has them steal powers using the black one. Plus, now we know the jiangshi and the iron ox are two separate people under Sanjome's control. So far we have: Kouki with the pygmies, the businessman as the ox, Miss Adachi with the jiangshi, and now Hase with, I'm assuming, the jumping crone.

He seems to be sending texts about targets to his "minions", we see Miss Adachi receives the same messages the businessman from last chapter got. Plus he can use telepathy now? He must be onto the kids since they're trying to find him now. He recruited Hase without even appearing in front of him.

I also think there was a translation error last chapter. On page 14, Murakami Sensei asks where Adachi Sensei is, the translation says Mr. Adachi, but I think it was supposed to be Miss Adachi. I don't believe the businessman is Mr. Adachi, since he's not a teacher, and Miss Adachi was gone to send her jiangshi after Seiko. The suspicious person walking away on page 4 is also wearing the same pants and shoes as Miss Adachi.

Chapter 176 is out!

I somewhat regret having read the manga up to the latest chapter, but I couldn't stop because I found the story so engaging. After reading this chapter, I felt a sense of suspense and a strong desire for more. The anticipation for the next chapter is quite painful.

I WANT TO SEE ZUMA WITH THE GANG!
