I kinda wondered if the .hack//sign soundtrack songs were written in Japanese first and then translated into English for their vocalists — as far as I'm aware no Japanese language version of those songs exist, the original show had those songs in English.

It seems like no, they were always in English (shout out to an extremely old school fan website):

I was originally writing “obsession” as the ending theme instead of the opening. I was going to write English lyrics first and rewrite them into Japanese later on. The melody, however, didn’t match Japanese lyrics. And I thought the melody was suitable for an opening , far from an ending. I worried, “As this is a Japanese anime, isn’t an English song good?”. But the director said “All right” very easily. Then “Yasashii Yoake”, which we were first going to use as the opening, was used as the ending.

Q: Last year at Anime Expo, Kouichi Mashimo (Director of .hack//Sign) was a Guest of Honor. At his panel, he was asked why English was used for the opening song of .hack.//Sign. He answered that if it had been in Japanese, it would have been too profane. Do you agree with that?

Kajiura: When I got the offer, the song was originally in English. So I created the song, I handed it to the Director, and his response was “It’s great, let’s go with that.” So we just went from there. The melody was easier if the lyrics were in English rather than Japanese.

It's interesting because the prosody of the music actually fits mora rather than syllables, so it has a strange quality in English, not quite uncanny, just different.

I guess they performed it live, which would've made me cry in 2004:

they really do just dangle the concept of a pandora hearts anime reboot being an actual thing over our heads like we are rats in a maze with unobtainable cheese around the corner. like. is the 2% sanity i have left a joke to u. this is so sick. i feel like shit i just want to look forward to seeing my son on a regular basis again

Out of curiosity, are there any battle themes you discovered through this tournament that you really enjoyed?

well, i learned that yuki kaijura (my fav anime composer!!) did the OST for xenosaga episode III, which was neat and expanded my library of her music! also, TWEWY's theme was so good :)

11) A song you never get tired of

Oh theres a number, most are soundtracks as I actually have an issue with music songs / with "lyrics" (defined as vocal parts meant to serve a leading and prominent role distinct from instrumental) and even the most favored songs I can and do eventually get tired of. Some may take a few months before I need a break from it but instrumental music? Immune.

Well, what can I say about me? xd

I think that the funniest story I have is that when I was a kid I broke both legs (a year apart and no big accidents or something like that, I was in school and I broke them). Ironically I was the kid that always stayed at classroom. And as a extra I have a scar in the face from when I was 3 years old and I was playing and landed on my face xd.

Another one that people likes to hear is that I learned English not from school (even if I had English classes). I learned English thanks to the video games. I started playing video games when I was 4 years old but I couldn't understand what they said, why the characters were crying, why they were fighting for so I took a dictionary and even if I spent an hour on every dialogue I was traducing word by word.

And why not? My favourite things. Movie? John Wick/ Treasure Planet/ Interstellar, Video game? Zelda (obviosly)/ Undertale-Deltarune/ Assassin's Creed/ Darksiders. Book? The divine comedy/ Phantom of the opera/ Fausto/The Mysterious Stranger/Blue Dot, Artists?
