So I've been rewatching Yo soy Betty, la fea and I can't stop thinking that adult Ritsu would be just like Daniel Valencia and somehow Daniel's relationship with Armando is similar to his with Reigen in a really extreme way??? Maybe it doesn't make sense but every time I see Daniel I'm like yes, that's Ritsu right there.

Just saw Luis Mesa's tweet saying that in fact, Daniel fell/would feel in love with Betty BEFORE her transformation and I'm spiraling because it makes sense the Betty/Daniel parallels in the first chapters, he going mad with Patricia because she blocked Betty's computer, he literally says that he's after Armando's head, not Betty's; also asking her why she looks so scared when she sees him with a reflective look. Also when he heard about Betty's boyfriend, he goes full mad to humiliate session on her look BUT he actually saw her look literally minutes ago and didn't said nothing.

I think it would be kinda interesting but in telenovelas, the guión is decided by the audience so it was only Betty/Armando without a triangle (Nicolas doesn't count ajsksks) until Michel.

What do you think YSBLF would go if they went with Daniel/Betty/Armando?

I thought for a very long while when watching for the firdt time that Daniel was eventually going to go after Betty! I thiught he would fall for her or at least want "something" with her... not actual love, perhaps, but you know, SOMETHING... but no!

I hadn't noticed some of the details you're mentioning! I did see the parallels at the beginning, and how Betty pretty much falls perfectly in lone with what Daniel looks for in a woman. I also noticed that he seemed to genuinely find humour in his talks to Betty but didn't like her winning the arguments. I also noticed he was surprised with how scared she was of him! But that thing about his reaction to hearing Betty has a bf?? Uf, I hadn't noticed or made the connection!!! I will definitely pay more attention to Daniel this rewatch!

Uff what a hard question!! It'd be very difficult to know how it'd go, and things can change so much depending on when Daniel were to be interested in Betty. I think that if the initial idea was to make Daniel actually eventually fall in love, it was a short lived idea, because Daniel never even shows a bjt of kindness like Armando does. I mean, Daniel is a pretty twisted man and a bit sadistic. I imagine that if they had actually wanted to make Daniel a love rival, Daniel's personality and wickedness would have been softened.

I've been writing a fanfic about this (not a D/B, but he still pursues her), and in my vision, I think he'd need to see her physical potential for beauty. Pretty much like Armando, Daniel also feels attraction for Betty but is repelled by her looks. Armando was forced to bream this barriers during the Sinister Plan, but I think Daniel would only break them if he saw Betty improving her appearence. He seemed to me a more superficial man compared to Armando, and I don't think Daniel would ever even consider going public.

I definitely think that Armando would be losing his head over the idea of TWO men going after Betty tho (Nicolás and Daniel) lmaooo also Mario would have a hell of a time laughing about it. Marcela would be FURIOUS about it. Patricia would feel humiliated thinking that Daniel could have had her and instead chose BETTY. And Betty herself would be HORRIFIED, because she hates his guts lmaooo straight up the only way she would ever tolarate him was with blackmails (cough cough like about the Panamá illegal businesses or something cough cough)

It's still a very interesting take! I definitely see where it comes from but I also think this idea was too quickly forgotten. I wouldn't even know where the AU could start for Daniel to be a proper love rival!

also i need to complain about ysblf fic i skim read. i thought i would enjoy it bc it’s au 5 yrs into the future--a ‘what if they didnt get back together and found their way back to each other’. a second chance fic if u will. and im usually down for that bc i like angst but oh my god. this was...bad. i dont mean like, bad writing. (i mean it wasnt great bc a lot it was ‘and then this happened and this happend’ and not enough dialogue’). like the writer thought they were writing a feminist take. like, im not even 100 percent sure a woman even wrote it. bc...idk. 

it takes place after she rejects him at the bar with michel. and armando’s like ‘i promise to stay away from you and never hurt u again. i simply dont want u to hate me. i only wish that if we ever see other again, u acknowledge me’. 

and i was down for that. 

but then. 

betty leaves ecomoda, and nicolas stays as president. she goes to cartagena and dates michel for 8 months. and then leaves him. also, she doesnt go back to bogota. she takes different jobs at different banks or something. and has different boyfriends. just leads an independent modern life away from her parents. which....okay. canon betty loves her parents and even wanted to take them with her to cartagena. but okay. 

then its 5 yrs later and she sees armando again and he’s different. but betty’s like ‘thats my man’. but like, its them but its not. like, these are just characters with their names. betty, even tho shes like 30 something, acts really reckless and immature. and armando isn’t a yeller anymore. and also he tells her that he almost got married to someone two years ago and she freaks out. 

ALSO mario is suddenly a good person bc he knocked a women up and now he has to be a single dad. marcela is suddenly not a mean person ever since she got married and had a baby. and they kill off armando’s sister for angst. and his parents suddenly love him. meanwhile, the writer took it upon themselves to make hermes a completely terrible man and make her mom envious of betty’s independence. towards the end, she brings armando back to bogota, but she visits her parents alone. and hermes calls her a whore bc he knows about her various relationships and bc she’s living with armando sans marriage and he also he doenst like armando. and then he hits beatriz. and then armando finds out and he beats the shit of hermes. and then beatriz gets mad at him????

it’s so crazy and not in a fun way. like, the writer really went out of their way to make her parents bad ppl but redeem his parents. 

and here’s the kicker---at the end they elope to vegas and have a son instead of a daughter. oh and they live in berlin. 

i didnt even get into the sex scenes that i was like ???????? bc one chapter literally had an authors note  saying that their male friend complained that sex scenes in fanfic were always about women’s pleasure and they wrote this chapter for their friend that that wasn’t always the case. 

so the author is either a man themselves or a woman with a strong case of ‘pick me’. i dont know. i just know i was horrified.

No se donde mas publicar esta historia que ando empezando (de ysblf mas otros elementos que se iran uniendo a la trama) ________________________________________ Ya han pasado muchos años desde que sucedió toda la historia de Betty, ecomoda y como ella llego a presidente. Los años han pasado, Betty y Armando han tenido varios hijos, Camila, su primogénita, tiene ahora 21 años, Roberto, el hijo de medio tiene 15 años y Julia la menor tiene 6 años. Han pasado muchas cosas, como que Ecomoda ahora se ha expandido a muchos mas países de Europa, se ha vuelto la empresa de moda mas importante a nivel internacional. Los papás de Armando viven en Estados Unidos ahora. Y es esto, el motivo de inicio de una extraña aventura. - Buenos días amor – le dice a Armando, quien va saliendo del cuarto, aun adormilado - Buenos días, ¿Qué hora es? – pregunta Armando, dirigiéndose a la cafetera

-          Son las 8 de la mañana amor, se nos hace tarde para el aeropuerto, ve a bañarte y alístate, yo me encargo de los niños

-          ¿de estos pequeños monstruos? – pregunta Armando, sonriendo y cargando de sorpresa a Julia

Hace poco tiempo, Camila empezó a comportarse de forma extraña. Se volvió mas seria, retraida, timida. No quedaba nada de la joven mujer alegre, dulce y tierna de hace años. Si bien escolarmente iba de maravilla, su ser no estaba tan bien.

Nunca se lo había dicho a sus padres, pero, desde hace tanto comenzó a oir voces, susurros. Al inicio, pensaba que era simplemente su imaginación, producto del estrés y el cansancio de su carrera. Poco a poco, las voces se convirtieron en algo mas palpable para ella. Era como sintonizar una estación de radio. De tanto en tanto, cambiaba de frecuencia y había una conversación. Juraria que eran en un idioma que no existía en la tierra, pero que comprendia en lo profundo de su ser. Podia traducirlo perfectamente a su lengua natal. ¿esquizofrenia? No lo creía, esto era tan extraño como para solo ser producto de su mente; debía haber algo mas.

En ocasiones escuchaba como dos personas hablaban, hablaban “de el gran vacio”, “de los ejércitos muertos, esperando ser liberados”, incluso cosas como “angeles o demonios” discutiendo.

Camila estaba aterrada de que tal vez, solo tal vez, había perdido su cabeza en algún punto que no sabia cual era. Esperaba, con su alma, que el viaje sirviera para calmar la maraña acústica con la que lidiaba diariamente. ¿Qué podría salir mal en el viaje? (ya vere si lo continuo o no, todo depende del tiempo)

There’s a lot that I didn’t like from the final episode. Imo the whole episode should be rewritten 😂

1) I didn’t like how Nicolás was drunk and didn’t seem happy for Betty during the wedding. It would’ve been nice for him to look proud of her afterall he saw first hand how much Betty suffered ☹️ a nice quick flash back could’ve been included like Betty crying to her being happy with Armando before the wedding

2) The dialogue between Betty and Armando on their wedding night… Cringe! Instead they should’ve said something romantic like how they’ll forever be together or whatnot (still cringe but hey I’m a sucker for romantic conversations😩). Plus the topic of children should’ve been discussed before their wedding!

3) Camila’s birth! Why did they pretend she was ugly. What’s the point? To be funny or is there an actual reason? That scene should’ve never been included, it’s so sad 😭 I would cry if my friends made faces when meeting my child😞 I wonder if they’re going to mention Camila’s “ugliness” in the sequel 👀

Ok people, you have 10 minutes of screen time in the final episode of YSBLF to rewrite. Everything from Hugo coming back to Ecomoda with his annoying boyfriends to Don Hermes and Nicolas doing the wedding expenses calculations are snipped off, torn to shreds and burned with a can of gasoline. Those are the most useless scenes ever.

What scenes would you replace it with or would you have liked to see?

My respects to authors who can mix angst and humor seamlessly! I was crying for Armando but once the dolls were mentioned I laughed like no tomorrow 🥴

Writers Month 2021 #1 - Protectiveness

Writers Month (August) 2021 Day #1 Word: Protective / Setting: High School AU Fandom: Yo soy Betty la fea (YSBLF) Characters: Betty, Armando, don Roberto Pairings: Very subtle Armando x Betty Warnings: None Rating: K+ A/N: What do you mean with "who writes about a soap opera? YSBLF? Really?" Well, me for starters! But there is also a YSBLF category in Ao3, so this is not the first fanfiction for that fandom… Anyway, here goes nothing...

Everyone had pretty much already left the school, so not many got to see such a scene, nor heard the commotion.

It all happened very quickly. 

Betty’s eyes widened like saucers, hand quickly covering her mouth while Armando Mendoza , the Armando Mendoza, kicked the man on the floor, whle surrounded by other two or three others that were trying to have a go at him. A tall one grabbed him from behind, and the moment Armando struggled to free himself, a third one took advantage of the moment and punched him right in the face. Armando wriggled in pain, but yanked himself free, violently pushing his opponents away. 

“Stop, please, stop!” Betty shouted.

But before they could land another blow, another voice yelled at them, and they hesitated too long. Then they looked at each other, and the moment passed. 

“Armando, what is the meaning of this?”

Armando braced himself and turned to look at the headmaster.

“I can explain…”

“I’m sure you will”, the man replied sternly. “And you three, go straight home this instant. If the bell hadn’t rang already, and if those that are still here were not already in need to arrive at their homes, I would leave you in detention indefinitely, right this moment.”

The trio, each one of them with visible bruises on their faces and wrists, averted their gazes, mumbling. 

“What are you waiting for? Go!”

They didn’t wait to hear it again, and scurried off. Armando remained still, same as Betty, too shocked to speak. 

“I want to know just what happened”, the headmaster said, this time sounding more tired than angry. “No excuses. Miss, you saw what happened...”

“Sir, I…”

“No, father”, Armando said, shaking his head. “You don’t have to involve her in this. I was the one who jumped at them. But I couldn’t just stay still while they...  while they...” 

He grimaced, perhaps in pain, too, judging by his swollen lip, and the bump on his forehead. 

“No, Mr Mendoza, it was-- it was my fault. He was just trying to defend me.”

Betty tried to hold the headmaster’s gaze, although she couldn’t help her eyes to lower, while he frowned. 

“Whatever do you mean, miss… eh...”

“Pinzón, sir.”

Armando avoided his father’s questioning gaze. Roberto Mendoza looked again towards Betty, then again at his son. He frowned.

What a bizarre, unantaindable situation. 

“Miss… Pinzón, were they trying to harm you in any way?”

“Oh no! Not at all, Mr Mendoza. They were just… saying things about me.”

“Which things?”

Betty adjusted her glasses with embarrassment, trying not to look at Armando, who was starting to look positively impatient and annoyed, with a trace of something else that she couldn’t pinpoint at the moment. She lowered her eyes, answering “About my appearance, sir. But it’s okay, I’ve dealt with these things before. It’s not like they were saying anything untrue.”

With a start, she catched from the glimpse of her eyes Armando abruptly raising his head, with a fierce scowl. “They were not saying true things. The way they said them, it was…” he shaked his head once again. “It was revolting.”

Betty knew better than to be affected by those comments. She really did. But there were times, like this one, when some people were remarkably more meaner than usual. She adjusted her glasses to hide her watery eyes, because she couldn't believe that, out of all the hundreds of people at school, it had been the popular, casanova Armando Mendoza the one who defended her. 

He believed that what they had said had been revolting. No matter if he found her revolting or not, he at least had found those comments to be. And that made her ridiculously happy. 

The headmaster, now looking frankly concerned, talked to them for a little while longer. Armando and Betty didn’t talk with one another, Roberto interceded at every time, and soon enough, they parted ways. Armando went in another direction, claiming that his wounds were nothing and he still had something to do before going home. Roberto didn’t seem happy, but he didn’t argue. 

Betty also parted alone. Her friends had gone home quite a while before her, but she preferred to be by herself at the moment anyway. Sighing with content, she was so distracted she almost got rolled over by a car, but  thankfully managed to get home safely.

Armando had a lot to think about, too. Except he didn’t want to think about it, because it implied thinking about Betty, and he didn’t want to think about Betty. 

He didn’t understand her one bit; but there was something about her… 

There was something about her. Maybe it was her horrible, horrible fringe, or those giant cartoony glasses, or the way she even seemed to wear an oversized uniform, but at times he almost felt pity for her. He had rarely talked to her in the past (why would he?), but per some reason, she had been around when a couple of... dire situations happened to him, and she had helped him. She had kept quiet about a couple of embarrassing things that happened afterwards, and, he realized, he hadn’t even been afraid that she would tell them to anyone. She laughed a hideous laugh, and braces did not help, certainly; but at least, even with how little he knew about her, he knew that she was trustworthy. 

And of course such an ugly, pitiful creature was constantly being mocked and mistreated, there was no other way around it. That was how things worked. 

But there were mean-spirited comments, objective comments... and then there were the rage inducing comments. Those guys had crossed the line alright, in front of him. It had been too much. He started seeing red, and when he realized, his fists were flying. They responded, and he kicked them, and punched them again, until his father appeared.

It was such a strange notion to think about it, but he felt--

He stopped on his tracks. And then he resumed walking quickly, brushing it away.

Protective. He felt protective towards her. 

A/N: tbh, Armando already behaves like an (immature) teenager most of the time, so no problem there! And Betty is such a sweet girl already, that it also doesn’t change much. Also, can I say that it is t a x i n g to write in another language?... I’m still not that good at making it flow properly... Anyway, thank you for reading, YSBLF needs more fics.

Ok my sins are keeping me up late at night so of course I'm going to post about ysblf. I am not a fic writer, actually I'm not a writer of any kind other than bad, but I really wish I could come up with a storyline in which Armando and Betty develop a somewhat healthy relationship, or at least one in which they get together without having gone through the ordeal of seducing/getting used. I will love reading your ideas, even fanfic recs if you know any. My own theory will be in the tags

apparently there's 29 ysblf fics on the main italian fanfiction website which i did not expect. i guess a lot more people than i thought watched it when it aired here in 2013 besides my mom. i'll probably report back complaining about bad takes so stay tuned.

Fanfic recommendation

Les quiero compartir un fanfic Armetty que encontré, me encantó muchísimo y me di cuenta que no tiene tantos votos como merece. La historia está en Wattpad y son básicamente historias cortas basadas en el soundtrack de YSBLF. Está super bien narrada, en general no tiene faltas de ortografía aunque hay un par, pero no son recurrentes asi que supongo que es porque no tiene activado el auto corrector y pues se le pasan algunas palabras. Está super mega mega mega hermosa, en especial la segunda historia es super linda y es muy fiel a los personajes originales de Gaitán. La única critica que tengo es que usa mucho la terminación “tica” o “tico” (ej. chiquitico), supongo que es porque en la novela se utiliza pero acá se siente muy forzado a veces. Anyway es el mejor fic que he encontrado y si les gustan mucho las cosas tiernas y las historias largas, pero no pesadas se las recomiendo al 100%
