gods YEAH i am so glad this is coming across realistically, bc thats been SO very important to me from the start (the hilarity that THIS is what my maximum self indulgence looks like not lost on me). I love portraying these incredibly complex relationships; im truly so glad people have been liking this chapter, because gods i worked my tail off hitting a lot of specific emotional beats in that Pearl and Grian conversation. And with Scar, the way he's compartmentalizing and pulling out that cheerful, salesman persona, is so important to me as well. Its really nice being able to weave different character dynamics and reactions into each chapter, and im so so happy thats being appreciated!!!

I am absolutely LOVING your analysis here btw, ur really nailing down a lot of things i wanted to convey, so im really glad they were noticed!!! :D also djsbdjdjdj im glad you dont mind waiting; this is actually a pretty novel experience for me to keep a longfic going with this much consistent momentum, even if each update is like, a month or two apart, and im having a fantastic time doing it. Its been really fun to write this and see everyone's reactions to it :D and tbh i never expected it to get this much attention, so im absolutely blown away by it being enjoyed so much by so many people!!!

The assassination attempts on the King and Queens and their half-brother have led them to believe that something needed to be done in order to ensure that no further attempts were made and that the family was safe. The decision was made to create a Kingsguard and Visenya Targaryen suggested that they modeled the vows the knights would be taking after those of the Night's Watch.

Invitations have been sent out to all noble houses, inviting any knights from their families to come to Aegonfort to stand in front of their rulers if they wish to be chosen as one of the Kingsguard Knights. If chosen though, they would be giving up the right to marry, father children, and to hold land once they swear their vows as it is a title that they will hold for their lifetime. Only six knights will be chosen in total to stand alongside their newly named Lord Commander, Yrian Darkwood, representing the seven Kingdoms that were united under Aegon Targaryen's rule.

Building off of the event from the last few months, the June event is focusing on bringing the Kingsguard into existence! We cannot wait to see how people use this in their posts this month!

I made some self-indulgent sticker sheets of Fe & Yrian, and they arrived on Fe's birthday! I've thrown a few on my etsy just in case anyone else would like them, but I can't wait to decorate all my mail/orders with these going forward :D

like yk. march was avoidant for so long that he forced that needlessly stressful and bloody turning period on himself + is trying so hard for yrian's sake + has a fairly extreme view of what the average vampire is like due in part to cass being so critical of them. cass is trying to take a stand against GR from within it + is very young vamp wise + has been very kept out of decisions and responsibilities most of her life because of her contrarian views so she hasn't been forced to compromise or go back on her word much yet. but she'll have to face that she's the one who impressed onto him the need to Go All In and he'll slowly sort through the needed and undeed guilt and figure out where the line is drawn, neither in excess nor in trying to be better than their condition allows

didn't think cassandra/march would take the gwen/tris turn of a deep moral gap but it does make some sense. feels more like a phase here than it was for those two though, more of an adjustment period. march is still finding his place after all - as is cass, really. and followers are such a touchy thing in Romae

On the other hand there was Lord Darkwood. His father wasn't just as gentle as his sister, he was even worse. Since his early age, his father put him through harsh training to make him a dauntless knight. Horse riding, sword fighting and archery were Yrian daily bread, then spear fighting came. Lord Darkwood instructed his son's tutors to have no mercy, no matter how much blood the young man shed, no matter how many bruises marred his fair skin. A far too fair skin for a man. A Lord Darkwood was not afraid to mock him, in order to urge some attitude out of his overly silent young son. A son that wouldn't go against a father, no matter how he was used to being given a cold shoulder.

All his life had been so. Yrian has grown up being used to not being loved. There were words lingering in the thick air each time he was in the presence of his father and sister. You killed her Thus, the young Darkwood didn't dare ask about his mother at all, he didn't know how she looked, what was her personality like. He spent nights awake, unable to sleep while staring at the ceiling of his chamber, wondering and elaborating fantasies about what she might have been like. What it might have been if she still was alive. Would his father's coldness turn into approval at his skill's improvements? Would his sister spare him a gentle word for once? Yrian wasn't meant to know.
