Okay well, I like Chicken Farmer Elain- I know she has at least one, and that chicken hates Lucien. Just watching him with suspicion in its mind, murder in its heart. Is that because he made a joke about eating the chicken for dinner one day and now he wonders how much chickens even understand? Maybe.

I do think the "tension" aspect of their relationship should include some amount of dislike, at least in the beginning. I think it makes it interesting to read about- how do you overcome that, how do you reset that first impression? I'm sure no one has ever noticed that in my writing though.
