Hey Tumblr, just me again!

I wrote my first blog almost 2 weeks ago and since then I’ve done a lot of reading, a lot of writing and a lot of work on French. My biggest ambition in life is to be able to call myself bilingual. I’ve been learning French through school since I was 5 and in the past year I’ve truly discovered a passion for it. But that's not what this blog is about (let me know if you would be interested in that)

My first book review on this account is on a book series (currently 2, soon to be 3) called A GOOD GIRLS GUIDE TO MURDER BY HOLLY JACKSON. The first book in this series is about a girl called Pip studying for her a level in English where she has to write an article about something. She chooses the murder case of local schoolgirl Andie Bell who was “allegedly” killed by Sal Singh (another local schoolboy) however Pip didn’t believe he was to blame. After more plot twists and shocks than any other book I have read, Pip solves the murder and explains what really happened and whether Sal really was to blame. But it wasn’t easy and a lot of sacrifices were made. The second book in this series is called GOOD GIRL BAD BLOOD in which Pip has now created a podcast where she talks about her adventures in the Andie Bell case and has gained quite a big following. A family friend of Pip comes to her after his brother goes missing. Pip’s previous experience helps her work with the family of the missing boy to find out what happened and where to find him (dead or alive?).

Overall, I would give this book 5 out of 5 stars. It’s very rare I find books that are as gripping and engaging as these. The fast pace of writing helps to increase tension and the descriptive narrative allowed me as a reader to feel part of Pip’s investigation and get to know the characters on a level that many books never go into detail of. Another thing I like about this book is the fact that Pip is not perfect. Books often represent the protagonist as a heroic figure who can do know wrong however Holly Jackson has created the character of Pip to be a normal schoolgirl: she makes mistakes and has many issues of her own deep down. The plot twists in this book mean that predicting the end result is not as easy as it is looks to be in the first half of the book. If you have not read this book, I recommend it so much! If you enjoyed one of us is lying, you will definitely enjoy this.

A tribute to Harry Potter, I thought I'd have the book figured out in no time. The book itself is pretty predictable, but to watch the story unfold was not as predictable. Simon's Destiny is to defeat the humdrum and bring peace to the universe. Raised as an orphan, in the human world, Simon is 11 years old before knowing anything about magic, or that fact that he is destined for great things. He has no control over his powers, and has a tendency to "go off." His school is his home, a place where he is a celebrity, and his girlfriend, Agatha, can't takes it. After the breakup, Simon is spending more time with his best friend, Penelope. Simon is so focused on his breakup with Agatha, he tries to distract himself with the mystery of his missing roommate, Baz, his enemy. Baz is a member of the old families, his mother, a former head of Watford. (Their school.) It is unlike Baz to miss the first week of school! His mother would kill him if she were alive! The old families have started to oppose the new mage, the head of Watford, and Simon is suspecting this to be the reason of Baz being gone.

This book follows these 4 teenagers on their journey through their last year of high school; breakups, hookups, ghosts, love triangles, arguments, learning who they can and can't trust, and, ultamently, finding a way to defeat the Humdrum for good; on top of still trying to find themselves, and their own sexualities.

8/10 I do recommend this book.

Or is there a sequel you are eagerly awaiting to get to? ☁️ ⚠️ Trigger Warning⚠️ Death (parent & child), self harm, sexual assault, addiction, abuse, torture. This book is going to stay with me for a long time. The ONLY thing that sucks about this is that I have to wait for the trilogy to be completed. But y’all… this book. Ugh Jaren, Mor, Naari, Tipp, Grendal, such great amazing characters. The twists, the turns!!!!! One of them I knew about but the rest!? 😭😭😭 Definitely one of my new favorites. The more we find out about Kiva's past too. *cries* I really did cry to a few different parts in this book. I swear it does not take much for me to cry anymore. Lol. I really don’t want to spoil to much but this was easy to dive in. It captured me from the beginning and I’m so happy to have picked this up. - In the beginning we get a preview of Kiva's life. The day before everything went wrong. She was with her father and brother and then, they came. Fast forward 10 years later and here she is, The Prison's Healer. Everyone knows her and her role, which is why the Rebels do not confide in her. Meanwhile, there was a new load of prisoners coming in. Only one survived. Jaren. Jaren is different than the others. . Ever since he came into the picture, her life has been different. She's befriended a Guard, Mot is helping her, Tipp, well Tipp is being his usual self. Then comes Tilda. She is the Rebel Queen. Someone Kiva has to keep alive if not everyone she cares for is at stake. No one has been able to survive all four trials of wind, fire, water, and earth. What is the life of a book reader without our OTP? Seriously people, what is better that being a Fangirl/Fanboy and obsessing over the romantic connection between two fictional characters that may or may not actually make it together in the book/tv/movie series? Going through a constant internal struggle of "do I ship him with me?" Or "do I ship him with her?" 🤷🏻‍♀️ maybe both? 👽 I have had the constant OTP episodes of obsession and gushing over Howl and Sophie from Howls Moving Castle - only my favorite movie of all time - and my favorite pairing of all time.
