Blues vs Ducks Game 5 (1-4)
This season: 15-12-5 Against the Ducks: 4-1
that pregame and Charles Glenn made me cry.
okay we really did have a good game but we just cannot buy a goal and just don't have the finish. Vladi is getting really good looks and DP is playing hard. good things will happen eventually, we just have to keep pushing.
First period
early Brayden fight to defend Vladi's honor which i love
ooo good chance for Vince there
i like Mikkola being back in the lineup. he is a big body and plays smart
i kinda love the visual of Shatty trying to play peacemaker after that his on the young Duck player
already been a few giveaways and that is less than ideal
i would like to see a little more hunger for the puck and cleaner passes
we really need to clean up our passes. just a little too hard and not on the tape
also our forecheck could be harder
Cliffy is putting in work tonight
okay that last little push was good. good shot coupled with good net front presence which will work eventually
not a bad first period. something to improve on but not awful
Second Period
yeah we were moving slow to start this period and not making clean clears so kinda saw that goal coming
alright getting closer to the net with our shots. that's good
good stick check at our blue line by Robby
Vladi is starting to look good but still a little hesitant at time. it will come
robby having a good game despite that puck rolling on him a lot
we are getting a lot of good chances but just cannot buy a goal
okay this is the first time i have really been able to hear the crowd when we have serious o zone pressure. it really does feel different and good and vaguely normal
why do we keep trying to feed the late man into the zone. take it to the net and let the late man clean up the rebound
DP is having a very good game. protecting the puck really well
Robby. stop trying to pass the puck just please shoot
can Torey not give the puck away like that please that would be great thanks
i fucking hate those end of the period goals. we had so much good momentum and we were starting to wear gibson down but now it will take two to even get a point and with our puck luck that feels like 5
Third Period
we really need to stop in front of the net. these flybys are not going to work
no. not robby. we can't lose him again
oh good he is back
stop with the cross-ice pass right before we clear our own zone
yeah robby not a good penalty bud
oh no vince. (okay good he's okay)
we seriously cannot buy a goal
FINALLY!! dear lord good net-front presence and follow up by O'Ry. Marco so so hyped coming in for the celly lol
okay but we have a lot of guys standing still in our own zone and that is annoying
oh no Zach please don't be hurt
Robby and Rouzy are in a politeness of with the puck there and i would love one of them to just shoot it
aww you can actually hear people singing country roads
vince babe you can't let that puck past you. not with an empty net

Teen Wolf no longer exists, Scott McCall is now a...
But does he date Berto?
Look, its simple. Scott likes Berto who likes Scott but who also likes Sam, but that’s okay because Scott likes Sam too. Who doesn’t like Sam? Well Dani at first, but we all know that’s a lie, Dani actually likes Sam a lot except for when she likes Xi’an. Who likes Kitty which is a bummer because Kitty’s a snob about being one of the X-Men instead of a New Mutant, and also is a bummer because Illyana likes Xi’an, but she also likes Kitty too, so like, she gets it. They commiserate over cups of hot chocolate while huddled on the couch griping about also, how hot is Amara, its totally not fair.
Amara meanwhile also likes Berto and they date when he’s not dating Scott which is usually when Scott is dating Doug, who is just surprised he’s not doomed to just crush hopelessly on all of his classmates from afar, because why is the X-gene synonymous with So Hot My Eyes Bleed, science side of tumblr, please explain, he frantically types out before erasing it and instead typing Scratch that, mlm side of tumblr, how do I date boys, I did not study for this exam, halp.
But then you’ve got the Hellions to consider, because Manuel likes Amara but Manuel is a creep so Dani gives him nightmares that make him wet the bed for a month. Which makes Jimmy like Dani because Jimmy likes anyone who doesn’t like Manuel, and Dani likes Jimmy because have you seen Jimmy, duh. And Sam is conflicted because he still likes Dani but he also likes Jimmy and he complains to Berto, who was kinda busy spending time with ‘Mara. Rude, Sam.
And then Scott pops his head up from the other side of the bed next to Amara and says don’t be dumb Sam, if you like them both, just tell them you like them both. And Sam hems and haws, and he’s like, but what if Jimmy doesn’t like me back? And Berto, Scott and Amara all give him the look something that dumb deserves.
“Wait, why aren’t you with Doug?” Sam asks Scott, who shrugs.
“I think Doug dumped me for that alien dude we rescued from that other planet, Warlock? They’ve been doing this whole mind meld thing and talking at each other in computer and its uh....not really my thing. I mean, I like Warlock, but I don’t LIKE him, so....they can do their thing without me, its cool. Way I figure it, at least Doug had to go out of this world to find a better boyfriend than me, so I’m good with that,” he grins.
Sam, Berto and Amara all nod, because that is a very Scott take on things. He’ll be fine. Plus, he’s in bed with Berto and Amara, so there’s that.
Course, then the X-Terminators join the New Mutants and Rusty and Skids are clearly soulmates so they are Dismissed, how boring, the others all think. But Tabby takes one look at Sam and decides WANT, and Dani takes one look at Tabby looking at Sam and goes DO NOT WANT, and lots of explosions and make-you-crap-your-pants illusions become commonplace over the next few weeks while Sam and Jimmy sit there and just roll their eyes.
And Doug’s like, why aren’t you guys doing something, I mean, you shouldn’t be okay with them fighting over you. And Jimmy gives Doug an “are you for real” look, and shakes his head. “They’re not fighting over us, they’re flirting,” he gripes.
“We’re pretty sure they just haven’t figured that part out yet,” Sam sighs.
“And until they do, and figure out what they want to do next, we’re kinda stuck in Limbo,” Jimmy complains. Illyana pokes her head over the couch just long enough to realize nobody’s talking about the actual Limbo with demons and stuff, hence she doesn’t care, and she and Xi’an go back to trying to figure out how to figure out exactly how old Scott and Jean’s time-travelled from the future daughter Rachel is. But without, like, actually asking her, because then she’d know they were asking so they’d know if it was weird to date her, and god, how embarrassing.
“Well why don’t you guys just...do your own thing?” Doug asks Jimmy, still confused. See, this is why dating a machine lifeform from another planet isn’t the weirdest thing he could be doing with his lovelife. At least Warlock makes sense. Most of the time.
“Without Dani? That’d be like cheating.” Sam looks offended by the very thought. Jimmy nods in total agreement.
“But....she’s flirting with Tabby, you just said. Isn’t that cheating?” Doug helplessly tries to compute.
“Of course not, because she doesn’t KNOW she’s flirting,” Jimmy just sounds totally exasperated now. Error, error 404, Doug thinks. He tries to backspace but honestly, he has no idea where the fuck he took a wrong turn.
Sam just shakes his head pityingly.
The others are no help. Berto and Amara are cuddled up on the floor leaning against the couch and Scott’s laying slash draped slash sprawled across their laps. That shouldn’t be comfortable but he’s practically purring, which, bizarre, because he’s a werewolf, not a werecat. Then Julio saunters over, and even Doug knows that saunter is the only word for walking that deliberately. Hips don’t normally move that way, he’s pretty sure.
“So, you guys don’t really have a problem with complicated here, huh,” he grins, plopping himself into a chair next to them.
“What was your first clue,” Berto deadpans. Amara eyes Julio appraisingly. Scott just burrows deeper into their laps and sighs contentedly.
“Well...” Julio begins. Just then a few X-Men appear in the doorway with a bulky white-haired giant who’s half metal and all scowl. Julio’s attention is on the tall kid next to him who looks like the love child of a ballet dancer and an American Ninja Warrior, tackiness included. But like, he has swords. And a ponytail. Julio is in LOVE.
“Never mind,” he says, getting up and casually migrating closer to the newcomers. Berto’s eyes narrow.
“Is that what being dumped is like?” He demands. Amara just shrugs. It’s not like she knows either. Scott still hasn’t opened his eyes.
“Everyone, I’d like you to meet Cable, and his young protegee Shatterstar, “ Storm says. “Shatterstar is a gladiator from a war torn parallel universe. Cable is Scott and Madelyne’s infant son who was sent to the future, as I’m sure you all remember.”
Several mouths open at that. Bobby jumps in.
“Before jokes are made and lives are lost, you should all know that he has lots of guns, none of his father’s issues with using them, and zero sense of humor. I checked.”
Several mouths close. Illyana still looks tempted. Storm eyes her warily.
“Anyway, Cable will be taking over your instruction from now on. I trust you will show him the same respect and courtesy you would show any of us,” Storm continues.
“So basically, none at all,” Wolverine grouches. Jimmy, Illyana, Tabby, Berto and Amara all smirk at him.
“So you’re from another dimension? That sounds hella cool,” Julio says, smiling up at Shatterstar, who is in fact a giant.
“The sad thing is, that really is his idea of smooth,” Tabby says loudly from across the room. Julio’s eyes narrow and said room begins to vibrate ominously.
“Oh for Chrissakes,” Wolverine mutters and stalks out.
Because poking sleeping bears is her favorite hobby, not that Julio could ever in his wildest dreams qualify as a bear, he’s an otter at best, Tabby directs the full wattage of her patented Here Comes Trouble grin at the bemused Shatterstar.
“You got any drugs, Shatty? Cuz Julio’s got the sex and the rock’n’roll covered.”
“Shut up Tabitha, GOD,” Julio yells, red-faced and stamping his foot. The room starts to shake and Tabby and Dani both giggle, then glare at each other.
“Ignore her, she’s the worst,” Julio says a little desperately. Shatterstar just tilts his head and smiles, still patiently bemused.
“I have no idea what is happening right now.”
Scott fucking cackles.
“Good, that’s fine,” Julio says, still a little manic. “Tell you what, want me to show you around the mansion and I can show you what’s what?”
“Reconnaissance,” Shatterstar nods approvingly. “An excellent suggestion.”
He follows Julio out the door, after the other boy flips of Tabitha one more time. She blows him a kiss. Berto eyes them both as they leave, frowning.
“Who even says stuff like reconnaissance? What a nerd. I can’t believe we got dumped for him.”
“Shut up, Berto,” Scott and Amara both sigh.
Two weeks later, Berto and Amara get sucked through a time portal into the future. Scott consults with various X-Men who have experience with such matters and observes the requisite period of not-mourning-because-they’re-not-actually-dead-but-we-cant-exactly-be-expected-to-wait-forever-seriously-we-only-dated-like-two-months-tops. He starts spending time with Justice from the New Warriors. Dani declares him a traitor and bars him from the weekly ‘All The Adults Are Dumb And This Is How The Mutant Revolution Should Really Go Down’ strategy meetings until Scott informs her of his secret master plan to seduce Justice and lure him to join the New Mutants where he belongs. Mollified, Dani rescinds her order of Acts of Petty Vengeance For This Lust-Born Betrayal and eyes him. “You do goofy so well I forget you’re good at devious. Change of plans. When the revolution comes, we should totally make you a spy.”
Scott beams at her.
“How come Scott gets to be a spy?” Illyana demands, popping out of nowhere. “I want to be a spy. I’m a teleporter. Teleporters make the best spies.”
“Not when they bring demons with them everywhere they go,” Dani arches a brow. Illyana narrows hers.
“What, I can’t have friends now?”
Scott hastily departs.
A month later, Berto and Amara return from the future, ten years older and maybe married? They’re not sure. The time travel experts among the X-Men can’t make a consensus on whether cross-time marriage vows are considered binding until Rachel comes back from the dead. Again.
“Eww, Berto got hotter somehow. That’s so obnoxious.” Tabby wrinkles her nose. Xi’an and Illyana’s glances at Amara (furtive in Xi’an’s case, blatant in Illyana’s) seem to convey a similar sentiment. Twenty eight year old Berto preens and a few shoulders relax. At least they know its not a shapeshifter now.
“Don’t be too smug,” Jimmy tells him. “Scott dumped you while you were gone.”
Berto’s smirk transforms into a scowl. Illyana throws a pillow at Jimmy.
“Hey! I wanted to be the one to tell him that.”
Scott ignores them both. “Come on, you can’t actually be mad. Look at you. You can rent a car by yourself now, it would never work like this. It’s too weird even for us.”
“He’s legal drinking age now and like a zillion other things, but your mind goes to ‘can rent a car’,” Tabby shakes her head in utter bewilderment. “Who hurt you?”
“It’s okay, Scott, neither of us is even a little surprised. We were only a thing for barely two months, we wouldn’t have expected you to wait,” Amara smiles reassuringly.
“Agree to disagree,” Berto grouses. Scott gives him a Look and he rolls his eyes and subsides. “Fine. Is our clearly inferior replacement hot at least?”
“He has a cape,” Tabby says helpfully.
“It looks dumb,” Julio says, eyes focused on his guitar as he experiments with a chord position. Scott glares.
“Your face looks dumb.” Not his best retort, but he was a little sensitive about the topic of Vance’s cape because honestly, it did look dumb and he was a little worried Vance was the only one who didn’t get that. Is not getting that no eighteen year old needs to wear a cape one of those irreconcilable differences people break up over?
“You really got me there, killer,” Julio rolls his eyes, twanging out an especially loud and off key chord. “Bow wow.”
Shatterstar looks between them both, frowning slightly. “I’m still not sure how this works,” he says to Doug, who is completely absorbed in his laptop. Probably skyping with Warlock on the other side of the galaxy or something. “Am I supposed to be jealous here? Are they doing the flirting?”
Doug sighs. “Like I would know?”
A month later Scott’s master plan to seduce Justice into joining the New Mutants fizzles out when he and Vance break up. Not, it turns out, because of his cape, but because of Firestar. But no, we do not need to declare a blood feud, Dani, please for the love of god, for once just chill. She’s actually a very nice person and I’m happy for them both and no I do not want to talk about it let’s go to the Danger Room, I want to kill robots please and thank you.
He dates Berto’s clone for awhile, but then he turns evil and if capes are maybe an issue for Scott, supervillain monologues are definitely a dealbreaker. Even if Berto is like, the only person in existence who can pull them off. Course, Scott might be biased, oh no he’s biased about his time travelling ex’s supervillain clone who is also his ex. How is this his life? That’s it, Scott decides. No more dating time travelers, clones or supervillains. He is declaring a moratorium on all non-age appropriate, born in this era, on this planet, in this universe, potential suitors.
Two days later, Cable gathers them all in the den. Standing next to him is a teenager who looks like he could be his grandson, complete with glowing eye and a single white streak in his hair.
“Everyone, this is Nate Grey,” Cable says, sounding both pained and bored, as though he’s been through this a dozen times already and it hurt every time.  “He’s my younger self from an alternate universe and...”
“Oh no, he’s hot,” Scott groans. Tabby busts out laughing and falls off the arm of the couch where she’d perched. Nate looks at Scott with a quizzical frown, but two seconds later his lips twitch and he ducks his head and oh no, Grey, he’s a telepath ugh fuck his life this is literally the worst. Cable looks back and forth between the two of them, his frown deepening until its practically a canyon in his granite-stern face.
“No,” he says flatly. Scott flushes beet red.
“Shut up, you’re not my dad!”
He blinks. Where the hell did that come from? Jimmy and Illyana join Tabby in the dying of laughing.
“No, but you know who his dad is, right?” Julio drawls. “Cyclops. Which means if you marry our boy Nate here, who's basically a Summers, then we’d have two Scott Summers who both have sticks permanently stuck up their asses. How would we ever tell you apart?”
“I will rip your throat out with my teeth,” Scott says, eyes flashing and canines elongating, in what is supposed to be clear and obvious menace but for some reason Dani too is now on the floor. Ugh. Traitors, every last one of them.
Shatterstar throws up his hands in exasperation, turning to Doug. “Okay, is THIS the flirting? I’m not even mad, I just want to know!”
“Then why are you asking me?!” an equally exasperated Doug yells back.
Wolverine enters the den, the kitchen on the other side his clear destination. He stops, takes one look around the room. Sniffs. Shakes his head.
“Nope,” he says as he turns on his heel and walks back out.
And that’s what you missed on Glee.

Last Year’s Caps: How are they doing now?
Over the summer, we lost a number of players, some only here for a short stop, but some mainstays. They are dearly missed, but the question we all want to know is: how well are they doing with their new teams? Well, let’s dive in and take a look.
Daniel Winnik, Minnesota Wild
Tumblr media
Winnik had a little trouble finding a team in the offseason, but once he landed a PTO with the Wild, he impressed them and became a mainstay in their lineup. As long as he’s on a team playing on a regular basis, he’s as happy as could be. He isn’t producing great offensive numbers like he was in his career-best season last year, but he’s chugging along, killing penalties and doing his job. He’s got 9 points, a +2 rating (which is actually 6th best on the team), has a 2.3 takeaway to giveaway ratio (which is 2nd best on the team), and 23 blocked shots. While it’s nothing like his production in Washington, he’s actually doing pretty alright for himself. 6.5/10
Karl Alzner, Montreal Canadiens
Tumblr media
After leaving his best friend and his team of nine seasons, Alzner signed with the Canadiens in the offseason, declaring that he wanted to play for a winning team. That hasn’t really panned out too well, as the Canadiens sit below 500 and aren’t in a playoff spot. Admittedly, the team has picked up since a rough beginning to the season, but it still hasn’t been great. And Karl hasn’t played too well, either. He has four points and no goals, a -4 plus-minus, and has had way too many giveaways. He’s in the tops on his team in hits and blocked shots, and he’s consistently on the ice and keeping that iron man streak going, but overall things aren’t going the way Alzner surely planned. On the bright side, he is doing many great things for the Montreal social media, such as dancing and showing off his dogs. 4/10
Kevin Shattenkirk, New York Rangers
Tumblr media
Shattenkirk could be playing like literal shit and he’d still be the happiest guy on the face of this earth as long as he was a New York Ranger. He struggled to start the season, but he’s really picked up the production in a big way. He leads team defensemen and is fourth on the team with 22 points (5 goals). He does have a -5 rating and a bit too many giveaways, but trails only McDonagh on his team in blocked shots and ice time, and he’s been a big part of the power play. Could be better, could be worse, but Shatty wouldn’t have it any other way, he’s right where he wants to be. 7/10
Marcus Johansson, New Jersey Devils
Tumblr media
The Caps did Mojo such a dirty in the offseason, trading him for literal scraps. And the bad luck has continued to plague him during his time in New Jersey. It seemed like everything was going well for him at first: he was getting prominent spots in the top lines, the Devils let him wear the alternate captain’s A during preseason games, and they even went out and got him a fellow Swede. But then he got a concussion that cost him a significant amount of time, and after only a few games back, he suffered an ankle injury that continues to sideline him. All of this has reduced him to just 7 points (4 goals) and a -4 rating in just 15 games played. His production would be significantly better if he wasn’t losing so much time to injury, but the hockey gods declared “fuck you in particular.” Marcus Johansson deserves so, so much better. 5/10
Justin Williams, Carolina Hurricanes
Tumblr media
Williams returned to the team where he won his first Stanley Cup, and things are going surprisingly well. He’s tied for second on the team in points with 23 (7 goals), has an even rating (which is in the top 10 on the team), gets the 5th most ice time per game among forwards, and is an important part of their power play. Not to mention, he’s an important leader for a very young team. Carolina was probably the best place Williams could have gone, and he’s having more than an alright year. 8/10
Nate Schmidt, Vegas Golden Knights
Tumblr media
Oh, Sunshine. Oh, light of all of our lives. We miss you so, so much. But you literally could not be doing any better. I want to cry and complain about wanting you to come back, but unlike Mojo, you are absolutely thriving. The team loves you. The fans love you. The city loves you. You have the second-most points among defensemen on your team, your rating is +8, you’re third on the team in blocked shots, and you are fucking leading your team in ice time, playing on both the power play and the penalty kill. You are finally getting the recognition and time you deserve, and you are becoming the star defenseman you were born to be. You are fucking leading an expansion team to be one of the best fucking teams in the NHL. That’s unheard of. You’re spreading your light and warmth to so many people, and you’re doing better than I could have ever dreamed. Keep doing great things, Sunshine. We miss you dearly, but you’ve dug out your own place. 10/10

It's Not the End, It Just Feels Like It
Rating: T Relationships: Marcus Johansson & Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nicklas Backstrom & Andre Burakovsky & Marcus Johansson Characters: Marcus Johansson, Nicklas Backstrom, Andre Burakovsky, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Christian Djoos, Alex Ovechkin, TJ Oshie, Washington Capitals Ensemble, mentions of many New Jersey Devils Words: 2k Summary: Marcus is traded to the Devils, and no one is happy about it, least of all Marcus himself. He doesn’t know what he’s going to do after being ripped away from the organization he’s played with his entire career. He’s having trouble adjusting; after all, this team isn’t his family.
This is my first real attempt at writing fic. I’ve got ideas for longer works, but I’ve completed something shorter just to see how it is. This hasn’t been beta’d, as I don’t really have people to do that, so forgive me for that. Let me know what you think and I can work on some improvements. Also, this story is not a happy one, it’s barely even heartwarming. Enjoy!
Some trades just worked out for the better of everyone. Sometimes, you just clicked. When TJ was traded to the Capitals, it was like he’d been in Washington his entire career. He got along with the players, made quick friends, and fit in nicely and carved out his role on the ice. Whatever combination of people and personalities just worked, and everyone was happy.
The same couldn’t be said for Marcus.
He was sleeping when he was traded. When he woke up, the face of his phone was an endless stream of texts and notifications; the Internet had had hours to brew about this before he saw it for himself.
The hardest part was telling Amelia; she had been getting so comfortable, she’d made so many friends, and he knew she enjoyed it here, like he did. She wasn’t going to be happy. She took it remarkably well, and Marcus made sure to thank her for that; even if Marcus wasn’t showing it on the outside, he was torn to shreds on the inside.
The Washington Capitals were all he’d ever known. Seven years he’d spent in a Caps uniform, working through the Caps organization. And now all of that was gone. Washington had always been his home in America. Now he’d have to move to a new city (Jersey, of all places), learn a new system, and, worst of all, play with different teammates. That was the part he was dreading the most. After spending seven years with the same organization, he’d grown up and played with the same guys. And they were so close. They felt like his family. And now he wouldn’t be seeing them anymore.
The entire thing shook him, to say the least. Marcus wasn’t one to toot his own horn, but he’d felt like an important part of the team, somewhat. He’d just recently signed a new deal, he’d had a career year, and life was looking good. And then the rug was yanked out from under him. Logically, he knew that it was all a part of the business, but he couldn’t help but feel that he wasn’t important, that he didn’t matter, that they didn’t care.
He didn’t get a chance to say a proper goodbye to any of his teammates. It was the offseason, he was in Sweden, and everyone was spread out all over the world. Teammates flooded his phone with messages. Some of them were already gone, like Schmidty in the expansion draft and Alzy, Stick, Winnie and Shatty to free agency, and they’d already said their farewells, but everyone else had a lot to say to him. Some were polite and gave him a general, “This sucks, but I wish you the best” (Nisky, Lars, Carly, etc.), some were more tearful (Burky), and some swore vengeance and made plans to kidnap him from Jersey (Kuzy, Whip). Marcus accepted their sentiments with gratitude, and he said his goodbyes the best he could, but he didn’t know if he was saying the proper things. What in the world do you even say to your teammates when you’re traded? “I’m leaving, even though I really don’t want to, and I hope I beat you guys the next time I see you”? It didn’t feel right, all these goodbyes. He didn’t want it to be the end.
He texted Nicky almost endlessly. Nicky had always been one of his rocks, and now he needed him more than ever. He assured Marcus that this wasn’t his fault, and that everything would be okay. If nothing else, it was still just hockey. Marcus appreciated Nicky’s calming words, but they didn’t calm him as much as they should have. No offense to Nicky, but he’d never been traded. He didn’t speak from experience.
TJ, on the other hand, did. Marcus started texting him a bunch, too, asking for advice on dealing with the trade, moving to a new city, and meeting new teammates. And TJ was very helpful. Albeit, TJ was a lot more extroverted and much less awkward than Marcus, so this was probably all a breeze for him, but it helped Marcus. One of TJ’s pieces of advice stuck with him: “The other guys will know you’re coming, and they will reach out to you like Ovi and Carly did for me. Let them help you, and just go with the flow.” He wanted to wholeheartedly trust TJ, but he knew that not everyone was Ovi.
The Devils were nice and everything. Before training camp, he’d gotten texts from Andy Greene and Adam Henrique welcoming him to the team and saying how excited they were to meet him and work with him. But even as camp got started, he didn’t really feel like he fit in. There was no one he really gelled with. In Washington, Nicky had always been there to guide him, and Ovi had been like a big giant mama bear. But this wasn’t Washington. He had to throw everything he’d ever known out the window.
The guys were nice. Greene, Henrique, Schneider, Zajac, and even Taylor Hall all tried their best to make him feel welcome and a part of the team. But he couldn’t shake the feeling that he didn’t belong. Putting on the Devils jersey still felt wrong. It didn’t help his acclimation that New Jersey didn’t have a single Swede on their roster. He’d lived in the States for a long time, it wasn’t like he didn’t know English, but it would have helped him just a little if there was someone he could speak Swedish to. A fellow countryman, to help him feel just a little bit at home.
He almost cried when a young Swede made the team out of training camp. In an ideal world, Marcus would have loved for a Swede closer to his age to help him in the transition to a new team, but at that point Marcus would have taken anything. The kid was nineteen - younger than fucking Burky. Marcus took Bratt under his wing, of course; even if he was almost ten years older than him, he desperately wanted another Swede around. But he wasn’t the same as Burky - no one was the same as Burky.
They faced the Capitals within the first two weeks of the season. Part of Marcus wished it wasn’t until later so he could be more settled before seeing the whole team again, but part of him just wanted to get it out of the way so he could move on from those emotions (though he knew the real emotional turmoil would come in December, when he’d go to DC the first time as a visitor). But, in his heart, all he really wanted was to see the guys from the team - the guys he’d come to know as his family until he was ripped away.
The night before the game, he arranged to have dinner with a bunch of the guys. He was texting back and forth with Nicky - there were going to be a lot of them, they all wanted to see him again.
At the restaurant, Nicky and Burky arrived first, and they brought along the new Swede they’d adopted, a blueline rookie named Christian Djoos (a rookie who was somehow older than Burky); Marcus remembered seeing him at a couple of training camps, and their past interactions were brief at most. Nicky and Burky insisted on bringing him along, wanting him to meet Marcus and for them to become a “proper Swedish family,” according to Burky. Those particular words pulled tightly at Marcus’s heartstrings.
The rest of the guys piled in quickly after that. Ovi was there, of course, enveloping Marcus in a bone-crushing hug radiating all the warmth and joy that had been absent from Marcus’s life since July. Kuzy was there too, absolutely overjoyed to see his longtime liney. Marcus would have been lying if he said he hadn’t been severely missing that smile and the patented Kuzy humor. And it was just like Kuzy to greet him by loudly kissing both of his cheeks.
Completing the group was Braden, Dima, Carly, TJ, Nisky, Whip, and Beags. So many of these guys had shared the ice with him for his entire career, up until now. He refused to admit that there were any sort of tears coming to his eyes.
The night went on, they ate and laughed and caught up, and for awhile, it was like Marcus had never left and nothing had changed. He felt a sense of comfort and camaraderie he had not felt even for a moment since he’d donned a Devils uniform.
All too soon, a bunch of the guys had to go. Braden, Carly, TJ, Nisky, Whip, and Beags left en masse, giving Marcus big hugs and fist bumps and promising to check him when they saw him on the ice tomorrow. Ovi and Dima left shortly after, the two Russians giving him warm salutations as they left.
Just the five of them remained. The young Djoos, who had been fairly quiet for the majority of the meal, still looked awkward, as if he wasn’t sure what he should be saying or doing. Marcus couldn’t really talk, he knew that he had been the same when he was a rookie, but he did want to try to get Djoos to talk to him eventually. It was only when Marcus turned to him and asked him a question in Swedish that he finally relaxed and cracked what might have been a smile. Though the Swedish did elicit a hurt lament from Kuzy, claiming that they’d forgotten about him.
Marcus laughed and said a few more nonsense sentences to the others in Swedish before Kuzy threw a roll at him, demanding, “Did all my assists mean nothing, Jojo?” Marcus caved for his favorite liney and reverted back to English.
Eventually, though, Kuzy had to leave. Marcus really hated to see him go. Kuzy pulled him into an embrace that was surprisingly tender, saying to him softly, “Miss you lots, Jojo. Nothing like playing hockey with you on my wing.”
This time, Marcus couldn’t hold back the tears. He didn’t care. “Miss my favorite center, Kuz.”
They pulled away, and Kuzy cracked a joke about how he was going to dangle on Marcus tomorrow, but Marcus could see that he was getting emotional. He wiped the tears away from his eyes as Kuzy left the restaurant.
He sat back down, and Burky pulled Marcus close and held him there, as he was oft to do. The mood in the room was a lot more somber than it was just thirty minutes ago.
Nicky, with that soft yet calculating gaze of his, looked Marcus up and down. “Are you really doing okay, Jojo?” he asked, the conversation reverting back to Swedish for the remainder of the night.
Marcus sighed. “I’m not going to lie to you, Nicky...it hasn’t been easy. I’ve been in the same place my entire career. And then overnight, it’s a new city, a new organization, new people...it’s a lot to adjust to. The guys are nice, but it’s been hard to really connect with them. I know I’ll get there, but it hasn’t happened yet and it’s frustrating. And it shakes your confidence. You sign a new deal, and then the next year, you’re traded...it kind of makes it seem like they don’t want you.”
“Management doesn’t know what the fuck it’s doing,” Nicky said bluntly. “Shelling out all that money. Not that those guys aren’t worth it, but it was a disaster waiting to happen. I didn’t think you were going to be the consequence, though.”
Marcus had thought about this a lot. Clearly he wasn’t cut out to be a GM, because he had no idea what he would have done. The part of him that’s crippled by self-doubt believed that trading him was the only option, but he knew there were other things that could have been done to avoid taking him away from his family. Too late to change any of that now, though.
“Burky cried when you were sent away,” Nicky said, causing Burky to turn a shade of deep red. “He called me and he cried, wondering why they were taking his big brother away from him.”
“I did not!” Burky protested.
“Glad to know you love me so much,” Marcus teased, jabbing the bit of elbow that wasn’t trapped in Burky’s cuddle into Burky’s ribs.
“Of course I love you, Mackan. We’re family.”
“He talks about you a lot,” Djoos finally piped in. “I’ve heard so much about the great, wonderful Jojo, who is funny and kind and mean and smart and was the best brother and had the world’s greatest beard.”
Marcus didn’t know how to respond. That’s high praise, even from Burky. He was finding that his eyes were having trouble staying dry.
“I think he’s overselling me, I don’t think I’m quite all that.”
“I would never tell a lie about you, Jojo. It’s all true,” Burky said, that big, dorky smile on his face.
Marcus didn’t have a rational thought for the rest of the night. He was pretty sure he cried, but that was yet to be confirmed. He remembered a group hug, even Djoos joined in. He vaguely remembered leaving the restaurant and walking the Swedes back to their hotel; Nicky gave him some kind of uplifting “We’re still here, we’re still family, it’ll all be okay,” Burky gave him a hug like he never wanted to let him go, and Djoos gave him an awkward yet polite “It was very nice to meet you, I hope to see you again sometime.” But again, Marcus couldn’t really remember; it was like his brain gave out and his emotions took control, and he couldn’t clearly remember what happened for the life of him.
They lost really badly to his old team. They didn’t play well, and frankly it was quite messy. Marcus’s heart stopped when Dima was hit like that, and he almost fought his own teammates himself, but nothing could have prepared him for fucking Burky stepping in and fighting. Complete and utter shock. Guess things had changed since he’d last rocked the red. But then Whip stepped in and pounded the original offender once he left the box, so the world wasn’t completely out of whack.
Marcus knew it would take a long time to truly become comfortable with his new team. Probably longer than it would for most people, given his specific circumstances. But he had to hold out hope that he would get there. Because the thought of playing out his tenure with his new team never truly being comfortable and never truly feeling like he belonged...the thought was unbearable.

Little 3 or 4 y/o Shatti(left) and Sahana(right) !
Also, headcanons about them, and various other stuff behind the cut because it’s a bit long :
I sometimes try to think about a valid reason why Sahana remembers Shatti, when Shatti totally forgot she ever had a twin sister... First, they were very young when they were separated, and while Sahana clung to the memory of her sis to stay strong during her years of slavery, on the contrary Shatti’s parents tried to make everything to protect their only remaining daughter. Including let Shatti forget about Sahana. Also, Shatti was probably in shock with the loss of her twin, and her mind protected her by forgetting ? And a few years later, as she entered the Jedi Temple, her life changed entirely, which must not be easy for a 6 years old. Another reason to forget as much as her former life as she could, to embrace the new one easier. Shatti is an expert in denial after all xD I also have this idea that maybe, while the two of them where close, Sahana might have been more dependent of her sis, and Shatti already more of the quiet and solitary type. Playing by herself in her own little universe, not talking much, mayber even already sensing a thing or two in the Force and apprehending the world that way, rather than with verbal communication. Sahana and Shatti might have had a strong connexion in the Force if they had stayed together, but that’s not how things went. That explains a lot about Shatt ‘s personnality growing up, why she didn’t had many friends as a youngling at the Temple (that and the fact that she was too shy, and too much of a serious studend xD)(well exept Lua, because one day she probably decided to adopt Shatti for an unknown reason !), and why the Force bond with Xarel is so important. Unspoken way to communicate and connect with someone. Much better for her.

Let's say it's Shatti/Sahana's week !
@saph-y's fault, making me cute togrutwins babies... No need to say who is who on those pics x)
To make my contribution to the young Sahana and Shatti headcanon !
As Shatti is the quiet one, living in a world, Sahana is the effusive one who protects her sister and her universe wanting her to be comfy and secure. Maybe talk for two when Shatti just expresses herself through a light Force bond with Sahana. So, losing her was too harsh for Shatti to face out, she lost her shield and her mind, to preserve itself, forgot her twin sis to let her build her own shield for the world.

Avicenna
Ibn Sina (Persian: Ű§ŰšÙ† ŰłÛŒÙ†Ű§â€Ž), also known as Abu Ali Sina (Ű§ŰšÙˆŰčلی ŰłÛŒÙ†Ű§), Pur Sina (ÙŸÙˆŰ±ŰłÛŒÙ†Ű§), and often known in the West as Avicenna (/ˌévÉȘˈsɛnə, ˌɑːvÉȘ-/; c. 980 – June 1037), was a Persian[7][8][9] polymath who is regarded as one of the most significant physicians, astronomers, thinkers and writers of the Islamic Golden Age,[10] and the father of early modern medicine.[11][12][13] Sajjad H. Rizvi has called Avicenna "arguably the most influential philosopher of the pre-modern era".[14] He was a Muslim Peripatetic philosopher influenced by Aristotelian philosophy. Of the 450 works he is believed to have written, around 240 have survived, including 150 on philosophy and 40 on medicine.[15]
His most famous works are The Book of Healing, a philosophical and scientific encyclopedia, and The Canon of Medicine, a medical encyclopedia[16][17][18] which became a standard medical text at many medieval universities[19] and remained in use as late as 1650.[20]
Besides philosophy and medicine, Avicenna's corpus includes writings on astronomy, alchemy, geography and geology, psychology, Islamic theology, logic, mathematics, physics and works of poetry. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avicenna
In June 2009, Iran donated a "Persian Scholars Pavilion" to United Nations Office in Vienna which is placed in the central Memorial Plaza of the Vienna International Center.[118] The "Persian Scholars Pavilion" at United Nations in Vienna, Austria is featuring the statues of four prominent Iranian figures. Highlighting the Iranian architectural features, the pavilion is adorned with Persian art forms and includes the statues of renowned Iranian scientists Avicenna, Al-Biruni, Zakariya Razi (Rhazes) and Omar Khayyam.[119][120]
The 1982 Soviet film Youth of Genius (Russian: ĐźĐœĐŸŃŃ‚ŃŒ ĐłĐ”ĐœĐžŃ, romanized: Yunost geniya) by Elyor Ishmukhamedov [ru] recounts Avicenna's younger years. The film is set in Bukhara at the turn of the millennium.[121]
In Louis L'Amour's 1985 historical novel The Walking Drum, Kerbouchard studies and discusses Avicenna's The Canon of Medicine.
In his book The Physician (1988) Noah Gordon tells the story of a young English medical apprentice who disguises himself as a Jew to travel from England to Persia and learn from Avicenna, the great master of his time. The novel was adapted into a feature film, The Physician, in 2013. Avicenna was played by Ben Kingsley.
List of works[edit]
The treatises of Ibn Sīnā influenced later Muslim thinkers in many areas including theology, philology, mathematics, astronomy, physics, and music. His works numbered almost 450 volumes on a wide range of subjects, of which around 240 have survived. In particular, 150 volumes of his surviving works concentrate on philosophy and 40 of them concentrate on medicine.[15] His most famous works are The Book of Healing, and The Canon of Medicine.
Ibn Sīnā wrote at least one treatise on alchemy, but several others have been falsely attributed to him. His Logic, Metaphysics, Physics, and De Caelo, are treatises giving a synoptic view of Aristotelian doctrine,[37] though Metaphysics demonstrates a significant departure from the brand of Neoplatonism known as Aristotelianism in Ibn Sīnā's world; Arabic philosophers[who?][year needed] have hinted at the idea that Ibn Sīnā was attempting to "re-Aristotelianise" Muslim philosophy in its entirety, unlike his predecessors, who accepted the conflation of Platonic, Aristotelian, Neo- and Middle-Platonic works transmitted into the Muslim world.
The Logic and Metaphysics have been extensively reprinted, the latter, e.g., at Venice in 1493, 1495, and 1546. Some of his shorter essays on medicine, logic, etc., take a poetical form (the poem on logic was published by Schmoelders in 1836).[122] Two encyclopedic treatises, dealing with philosophy, are often mentioned. The larger, Al-Shifa' (Sanatio), exists nearly complete in manuscript in the Bodleian Library and elsewhere; part of it on the De Anima appeared at Pavia (1490) as the Liber Sextus Naturalium, and the long account of Ibn Sina's philosophy given by Muhammad al-Shahrastani seems to be mainly an analysis, and in many places a reproduction, of the Al-Shifa'. A shorter form of the work is known as the An-najat (Liberatio). The Latin editions of part of these works have been modified by the corrections which the monastic editors confess that they applied. There is also a ŰÙƒÙ…ŰȘ Ù…ŰŽŰ±Ù‚ÙŠÙ‡â€Ž (hikmat-al-mashriqqiyya, in Latin Philosophia Orientalis), mentioned by Roger Bacon, the majority of which is lost in antiquity, which according to Averroes was pantheistic in tone.[37]
Avicenna's works further include:[123][124]
Sirat al-shaykh al-ra'is (The Life of Ibn Sina), ed. and trans. WE. Gohlman, Albany, NY: State University of New York Press, 1974. (The only critical edition of Ibn Sina's autobiography, supplemented with material from a biography by his student Abu 'Ubayd al-Juzjani. A more recent translation of the Autobiography appears in D. Gutas, Avicenna and the Aristotelian Tradition: Introduction to Reading Avicenna's Philosophical Works, Leiden: Brill, 1988; second edition 2014.)[123]
Al-isharat wa al-tanbihat (Remarks and Admonitions), ed. S. Dunya, Cairo, 1960; parts translated by S.C. Inati, Remarks and Admonitions, Part One: Logic, Toronto, Ont.: Pontifical Institute for Mediaeval Studies, 1984, and Ibn Sina and Mysticism, Remarks and Admonitions: Part 4, London: Kegan Paul International, 1996.[123]

Danishnama-i 'ala'i (The Book of Scientific Knowledge), ed. and trans. P. Morewedge, The Metaphysics of Avicenna, London: Routledge and Kegan Paul, 1973.[123]
Kitab al-Shifa' (The Book of Healing). (Ibn Sina's major work on philosophy. He probably began to compose al-Shifa' in 1014, and completed it in 1020.) Critical editions of the Arabic text have been published in Cairo, 1952–83, originally under the supervision of I. Madkour.[123]

The Manchester Bombing: The Libyan Connection
“Newsclick talked to Prabir Purkayastha on the recent Manchester Bombing. Salman Abedi, a young 22-year-old Libyan boy was found to be the suicide bomber. Prabir talked about the connection between Libya and the Manchester bombing, and about the recent massacre at the Brak al-Shatti, an airbase at Libya. He talked about the internal political situation in Libya. There are one set of forces in Libya who do not want it to be united again, and to get back control over its oil wealth. There are western powers who would like Libya to stay where it is - in a state of civil war.  Published on 26 May 2017“
