I don't understand people who hate Alma because imagine that in one (1) day you:
give birth to triplets (that should be enough)
are forced to flee your home (way more than enough)
are forced to walk for God knows how long (after having just given birth??? to fucking triplets???????)
have to watch your husband get murdered to save your family
I repeat, have to watch your husband whom you love SO dearly DIE a brutal death
this also means seeing the beginning of a war that's going to last three years btw
and it also means raising three children on your own with no family to back you up and no previous experience
get elected mayor of a town that just appeared out of thin air
man, if I have to leave the house I feel like crying, doesn't this woman deserve a fucking break???
Tumblr media
and she also still finds the strength to smile and wave at Casita

It’s always sad Pedro died because Pepa would’ve been such a daddies girl. They even have the same name when you think about it.
I think about this quite a lot. Pepa probably always asked Alma about Pedro when she was younger after seeing pictures of him in a photo album. But I can imagine if Pedro was alive to raise his children he would have had that same calming nature Felix has and Pepa would always go to him for everything.

Bruno has left behind the Encanto and the Madrigal name. But he never quite shakes the legacy, and when his village is attacked and his family threatened, he steps up.
History rhymes, but doesn’t repeat.
Sustaining an injury only Julieta can heal, his family sets out to bring him back to the Encanto.

Encanto info from Jared Bush's Q&As
This is a little place where you can find (hopefully) a lot of info Jared has said in his Q&As. This is if you wanna check smth and don't wanna go on a hunt to confirm it since it's been so long. Idk if I got everything, I highly doubt I did, so if you have a piece of info I don't have and have a link to it, I can edit it on. Ngl I'm also kinda doing this for myself cuz I was curious to know everything he's told us. I'll mostly summarize the answer so it isn't longer than it needs to be, but I'll also copy+paste if I'm too lazy.
The info here kinda varies from interesting, to obvious stuff, to potentially pointless but really any of it can be used to do whatever.
Some of the answers he provided aren't concrete solid ("I think __ would happen", "I always thought ___", etc), so take this all with a grain of salt. I'll try to phrase the uncertain ones differently so you know they're not 100% (probably, possibly, might, etc). If the answer he gives is completely up to interpretation, then I won't include it. Some might be repeated cuz I don't feel like looking back to see if he answered the same question twice.
Just to warn you guys before you click "keep reading", this is a LONG post, so if you don't want it fill up your page, don't click it unless you really wanna read everything.
Antonio's Birthday Q&A #2 (5/21/23)
Canon universe:
Dolores never truly believed Bruno was still around. She heard stuff, but everyone told her he was gone, so she thought she was imagining things. "I knew he never left" was her way of saying "I shouldn't have doubted myself."
Antonio was a shy kid and animals are were easier for him to make friends with.
The potteries in Bruno's room were because it was fairly public for people who want visions, so they're probably a nod to that.
When Pedro went to the attackers when he died, he was planning to reason with them.
Luisa's associated with donkeys because they’re beasts of burden and that’s how everyone treated her.
Mirabel has her embroidery because she loves her family, but potentially also because she subconsciously want to make sure the villagers know despite having no gift she is every bit a Madrigal.
Isabela might potentially secretly like Pepa's chaos.
Julieta's really good at hiding her feelings about the pressure of being the town's healer, but she's also a naturally strong person.
There's a reason why Bruno's single but Jared didn't tell us.
Bruno's favorite food is Ajiaco, but potentially also big butt ants.
Julieta probably noticed Mirabel wasn't in the pic at Antonio's ceremony immediately after it was taken, but Mirabel had already left by then.
For a while, Bruno's limit for future seeing was until the fall of Castia, but now it's limitless.
Alma didn't necessarily approve of Agustín at first because he wasn't overly spectacular or confident.
Mirabel and Camilo got along well when they were young, but after Mirabel's ceremony, Camilo felt more pressure to perform and show off.
Even before his gift, Bruno probably worried and wondered about the future, which is what caused his gift.
The Madrigals mostly assumed Bruno had somehow left the Encanto after his disappearance.
The birth of the miracle happened near the turn of the 20th century, and Antonio's ceremony was 50 years later.
The 5th birthdays for the Madrigals is the big one. The others are "regular".
Camilo often annoys Isabela for fun and also because he's a bit envious of her. They're kinda opposite, perfect vs a clown.
The post-movie relationship between Mirabel and Isabela is probably mischevious.
Bruno probably already was breaking from pressure when Isabela was only in single digits.
Alma was loving to all her grandchildren, but sometimes it felt conditional due to her expectations. She wasn't self-aware enough to realize.
Félix can play the tiple, but not shown in the film.
Agustín and Félix probably wore their respective colors before marrying their respective wives. Their colors are also a nod to regionality.
Alma might've seen cracks before Mirabel saw them at Antonio's ceremony (not at the moment tho), giving her a reason to actually believe Mirabel and pray to Pedro.
Based off the book "Mystery in the Rainforest", Dolores and Mariano are engaged and planning a wedding soon.
There is a school in the Encanto, but since it's closed off and was formed in the beginning of the 20th century, new info would cease.
Pedro might've been the one to know sewing and embroidery. He taught it to Alma, who taught Julieta and Mirabel. She probably taught others but Mirabel did it the most.
Bruno's door might've started glowing again during his vision in Antonio's room because Mirabel is making him feel included in the family (and therefore Casita) again.
The Madrigals do have friends groups, just not shown.
Camilo's gift can be tiring. Like an actor playing their part.
Mirabel probably would've had a negative or even traumatic impact from the fall of Castia, mostly due to a near death experience.
The Madrigals have never tested their gifts beyond the Encanto, so it's still a mystery on what happens.
Antonio probably can talk to animals from different countries, not just Colombia.
Camilo sometimes tries to impress everyone with his gift.
Mirabel's birthday became "stressful" ever since her 5th.
Isabela would probably help Antonio decorate his room with crazy plants.
Behind the scenes:
5/21 is Afro-Colombian Day, which is why that's Antonio's bday.
There used to be a deleted scene of Mirabel getting grounded by Casita.
The Guzmans originally had the same number of family members as the Madrigals, and each member was like a doppelgänger of each gifted Madrigal child, except Mirabel, who was represented in the Guzman family by a goat.
There used to be a scene where Camilo's gift goes haywire at night or smth (can't figure out the full pic for this one).
Writers considered early on that Mirabel would want to leave, but they decided that from a character and cultural perspective, leaving her family would have been the absolute worst thing she could imagine.
It's never been established how long the ceremony doors appear before the ceremony, but 9 months has been considered.
Early versions would show that Alma had strict parents. It may or may not be true now, but it would make sense.
Mirabel used to have a gap in her teeth to show her quirkiness, but was removed because they wanted to show it in other ways.
Encanto Disney+ Hollywood Bowl Q&A (12/28/22)
Cannon universe:
Emotions can sometimes affect Bruno's visions.
Camilo often helped take care of babies even before Antonio's birth. He was just naturally good with them.
The stairs in Bruno's room probably grew as he became more distanced, so they probably lessened when Casita came back.
Luisa's favorite sister is probably Mirabel.
Camilo would probably sometimes be happy that Isabela found her true self, while also a bit jealous. It depends on the moment.
The Madrigals' reaction to someone entering the Encanto would probably be chaotic.
As a way to protect them, Alma was always a little strict on her family.
Julieta and Agustín often worried how Mirabel was doing, especially for Antonio's ceremony.
Alma tried to show she loved Mirabel in her own way after her ceremony and before the movie.
Camilo's experience being the only boy in the house for a while was...interesting. Not the easiest.
Pepa and Dolores' gifts have caused some difficulties between the two.
Especially post-movie, Bruno, Agustín and Félix would be a ridiculous trio.
The candle is now gone, but a new miracle took its place.
Félix and Mirabel have a good relationship, especially post-movie.
Isabela's 5th birthday was the first gift ceremony for the grandchildren.
Bruno was probably superstitious before moving in the walls.
Before the house fell, Alma probably wouldn't like Dolores marrying Mariano. After, she'd accept it.
The other Madrigals might have hidden potential in their gifts, much like Isabela did.
The townspeople mostly either put the Madrigals on a high pedestal or see them as equals.
Isa probably had at least one flower she'd intentionally give Mirabel allergies with.
Bruno was probably a bit popular at one point.
Adopted Madrigal kids that were 6+ would probably still get a gift.
Mirabel's near-sighted.
Camilo's probably gotten in trouble for his disguises at times.
Bruno's mostly a rat guy because he's around them the most.
Pepa has a sweet tooth but doesn't let her self have too much due to her weather.
Isabela can grow trees and crops.
There's no definite reason why Isa was the favorite grandchild, but being the eldest didn't help.
When Alma said "the magic is strong, and so are the drinks", she was really trying to get everyone back to the party.
The gifts can tire out the Madrigals if used a lot, sometimes physical pain can occur.
Alma might have siblings, but it's not confirmed.
Behind the scenes:
There used to be a scene of Mirabel getting grounded. Idk if it's the same scene as the previous one mentioned, but the context of the question might suggest otherwise. ("What would've happened to Mirabel if she was found after the dinner?")
There were versions in the end credits of everyone reuniting with Bruno.
There is potential for a Madrigal with OCD, autism, etc, but not yet confirmed.
Triplet's Birthday Q&A (8/17/23)
Cannon universe:
Bruno and the grandkids now watch telenovelas together.
Julieta's favorite food is probably ajiaco.
Mirabel's first word would potentially be "sita" because she loved Casita but couldn't say the full word.
Dolores' room has a lot of soundproofing.
The reason Mirabel seems to interact with Castia the most out of the Madrigals is because she was mostly an outsider, with only Casita to talk to.
Encanto is a hidden place, so simply finding it is near impossible.
There are respected town elders in Encanto, but Alma is considered the founder.
Pedro said something to Alma before he died, potentially in Spanish, but it's not confirmed what.
In terms of personality, Mirabel is the closest to Pedro.
For adoptive kids, Casita may be able to anticipate the arrival of someone new even before the family is consciously aware of it, giving them a new door.
Bruno's a fan of chocolate.
Mirabel loves every color. She has no known favorite.
Julieta got married first between her and Pepa.
Bruno's rats aren't sentient like humans, so Bruno would have to train them to do whatever.
It's possible another Madrigal felt resentment towards Bruno after he left.
Julieta's gift possibly only works with a combo of cooking and giving, but not confirmed.
Bruno learned how to use his gift through practice and invented customs. It was complicated.
Julieta probably needs to know the person's injury before healing it.
The majority of the Madrigals' dominate hands are right. Julieta and Antonio are left handed. Luisa is ambidextrous. It's unsure, but Mirabel is potentially left handed.
Mirabel's favorite food is arepa con queso.
Antonio's favorite snack is nailed rice.
Agustín and Félix have jobs in the town, but not confirmed what.
In a book, it was mentioned that Bruno was the golden child of the family. He probably fell from that position in his late teens.
Agustín's favorite meal from Julieta is chocolate santafereño.
Gifts can possibly be repeated, but not in the same generation.
The refugees/townspeople had brought everything from home they used to start farming when the Encanto formed.
Isabela and Mariano still have a good relationship after the movie. Neither were too wild about the engagement.
The bedrooms can change if their owner wants them to.
The gift ceremonies will now be different without a candle.
Madrigals still do the traditional quinceañera.
The Encanto doesn't have electricity.
Bruno has left the walls a few times for a break.
Isabela will probably keep switching up her outfit now that she can.
Luisa has always felt protective of Mirabel.
Behind the scenes:
Casita used to have shown that it has only 1 bathroom, which was located in the back right corner under Bruno's tower.
There was a deleted scene where Julieta yelled at Alma in front of the entire town after Mirabel went missing.
Julieta is the one singing w/ Mirabel during the "constellations glow/the seasons change in turn" lyric.
There used to be a version of Bruno using water with his vision.
The line said by Mirabel, "Even in our darkest moments there's light where you least expect it" was cut after Lin Manuel Miranda wrote Dos Oruguitas and the emotional thrust of Mirabel’s words needed to evolve to encompass what she’d just learned.
There was a Waiting on a Miracle reprise that was cut because they felt they didn't need it.
The concept of a new door appearing was considered to start with the doorknob.
No one intervened during Alma and Mirabel's argument because the writers felt that it was Mirabel's moment to shine.
VERY early on, Bruno (then known as Oscar) was Mirabel's estranged cousin.
Indestructibility was a gift they wanted to use. It was actually Pepa's original gift.
Dolores' Birthday Q&A (8/31/22)
Cannon universe:
People in Isabela's position wouldn't really have the chance to have authentic relationships because they're hiding their true self. This could potentially apply to Isa herself.
Before Mirabel's ceremony, her family was excited for her. After, the family’s ability to see Mirabel clearly was too obscured by their unhealthy dynamics but were probably unaware of that until Mirabel brought it to light.
Bruno's oversized clothing was by personal preference, potentially because of his awkward nature.
Before Isabela showed up in Bruno's vision, another person was there, who is possibly a young Alma. While not confirmed, it is implied in Jared's answer.
Félix and Agustín already had gifts, just not in a way that others could see.
Isabela lets herself break the rules, so while not confirmed, it's possible she could recreate mythical plants.
The town probably functions like a combination of where everyone came from.
The triplets used to have little meetings in Bruno's room when they were little.
Behind the scenes:
There used to be a scene where Bruno revealed he had a secret elevator in his room.
Agustín's Birthday Q&A (6/19/22)
Cannon universe:
Part of what fuels the miracle is unconditional love. When Mirabel and Isa showed that during What Else can I Do?, it affected the magic.
Julieta often gives people the food they like rather than something random.
For a long time, Isabela was the favorite grandchild for Alma. Before her ceremony, Mirabel was. After Casita's rebuild, many dynamics changed.
Agustín was born in the Encanto, but his family was from a city, so he was raised with the city-vibe.
Luisa's favorite food is bandeja paisa.
Every gift can be affected by emotions in some way.
Casita probably helped Bruno hide, but not confirmed.
If Mirabel and Bruno decided to leave the Encanto after Casita fell, the entire family would've fallen apart.
The only people in the Encanto were the ones who traveled with Alma. They all got there at the same time, no one got in or out.
Behind the scenes:
There used to be an exit for Bruno's wall room behind the family tree, but it wasn't used.
Antonio's Birthday Q&A (5/21/22)
Cannon universe:
Mirabel's canonically 5'2.
Mirabel has good relationships with Pepa and Félix. Félix loves everyone and likes hanging out with pretty much anybody. Pepa is a good tia, she’s just very emotional, but for most of the movie (and her life before) felt she had to bottle her emotions which only made them worse.
Bruno probably doesn't need the sand for visions, but as time went on he added his own superstitions.
The color of the magic in the end changed. It wasn't the color of the candle anymore, but the colors of Mirabel. What that means? No one knows.
Bruno "felt" his vision cave collapsing and investigated. That's how he knew it was destroyed.
Camilo couldn't really hold a form forever because of how tiring it could be.
Mirabel did have a quinceañera.
Casita has a mind of its own with its own emotions. Sometimes it could play pranks on the Madrigals or be too upset to move anything.
Behind the scenes:
Earlier versions had a negative dynamic between Mirabel and Camilo.
The gifts are based off family archetypes. Antonio is a shy kid but opens up to animals.
Random Q&A (3/19/22)
Cannon universe:
The main reason for Mirabel and Isa's falling out was because they couldn’t see the difficulties the other was experiencing, because they were fixated on their own struggles. They were probably closer when they were younger.
Despite being shy, Antonio does have friends in the town.
Due to the triplets' bday being the same day as Pedro's death, it's a mixed day.
Pepa can try to stop natural disasters, but doesn't usually succeed.
Mirabel would sometimes have sleepovers with her sisters when they were younger. There was a deleted scene showing it.
The pink cloud scene in Surface Pressure represents the stuff Luisa wanted to do without the pressure.
Behind the scenes:
Tbh there wasn't any answers that could qualify as behind the scenes sooo... 🤷
Stuff that didn't come from Q&As but is still good info
Madrigal Birthdays (I'm not doing a link for each, just take my word for it lol):
Félix: November 11 (11/11)
Julieta, Pepa, Bruno: October 17 (10/17)
Agustín: June 19 (6/19)
Isabela: August 7 (8/7)
Dolores: August 31 (8/31)
Luisa: November 14 (11/14)
Camilo: December 28 (12/28)
Mirabel: March 6 (3/6)
Antonio: May 21 (5/21)
Madrigal ages:
Alma: 75
Julieta, Pepa, Bruno: 50
Isabela: 21
Dolores: 21
Luisa: 19
Camilo: 15
Mirabel: 15
Antonio: 5
I don't believe the husbands' ages are confirmed, but Félix is confirmed to be a little older than the triplets, while Agustín is a little younger than the triplets.
Julieta is the oldest of the triplets, Pepa in the middle, and Bruno is the baby.

Crypted madrigals au -
I find the thought of Casita being an anti-social house hilarious. Casita gives "PISS OFF" energy so strongly that it just urges villagers to stay away from it, hence why some houses are so far away from the house.
Also, Casi functions as a labyrinth to intruders, the house thinks it’s funny too. On a regular basis, people don’t even STEP near the house, let alone come in uninvited. So, if you do find yourself inside you're in for a ride!
If you’re just a curious kid, the house will play with you for a few minutes and let you go. Casita is more friendly with youngins.
But if you’re an adult with obvious bad intentions Casita is going to have a fun time “playing” with you. And the house lets you in just because you have bad intentions, so it knows whatever it does to you, it’s justified.
The halls get longer, doors, even the none glowing ones, can’t be opened. Not to mention Casita plays tricks on your mind and makes scary obstacles for you (like in poppy playtime chapter 3 and monster house. If you didn’t know; The player that somehow didn’t cover themselves in time to not breathe in poppy gas starts to have hallucinations from the gas.)
But let’s say the gas is light orange or yellow in this au (the color of the candle A.K.A Pedro). After about 30 or 40 minutes of straight up torturing the intruder the house will shove them out. Everything they went through was basically a warning.
Just to be clear, Pedro gets a kick out of the whole thing too. He takes part in scaring people by becoming a monstrous form of himself. The gas helps the intruders see him better, which he loves. Also, you know the funny gag where the eyes in a painting follow you? Yeah he does that before he comes out the painting to chase you.
You come back in? It’s your life.
A few adults in the triplets' young adult years made the decision to intrude and they were the last. Some of those men caught glimpses of what the madrigals actually looked like and were convinced they were creatures that needed to be killed.
Something along the lines of “they’re probably just playing nice until they get close enough to hurt us”
After Casita was done playing with them they ran to the village to basically be tattle tales.
When they told the villagers what happened a small part of them did believe them. That house has always been creepy and so are the people who inhabit it.
…but there was the question of WHY they were in their house in the first place. They weren't invited by what the triplets and Alma told them. And it was a little suspicious that they wouldn’t answer why they were in their house…at 3 o’clock in the morning.
So to be fair, the house acted in defense of the people that lived there. It was a very sick and weird kind of defense but it was still defense nonetheless.
Also, the gas helps the other family members see him too so he’s more involved in their life. He does that little painting trick to chase the grandkids. No matter what age they are, they love playing tag and just having fun.
After that, those men do not receive help from any madrigal. Their spouses and children? Yes, they get help, they have nothing to do with their fathers’ stupidity. And Alma surely gave those men a good talking to to make sure they never step in their house again.
I forgot to add, the gas helps the other family members see Pedro so he’s more involved in their life. He does that little painting trick to chase the grandkids. No matter what age they are, they love playing tag and just having fun.
The kids that Camilo babysits don’t find him creepy. Is he odd? Yes, creepy? no. He’s still silly, funny, and kind. And the way he can distort his face makes them laugh.
However, he can’t laugh like a normal person. It sounds like several people are laughing at once and it’s kind of just all over the place when it comes to sound. It can go hilariously high or demonically low, no in-between.
When he tries to control it it's less weird, but it's still weird. I also like to imagine when he's not trying to hide his voice, he sounds like he has a voice box sometimes. Like everything he says is pre-recorded even when he gives instant responses.
Also, the old au with Dolores, Mirabel, and Antonio is called “Encanto cryptic duo au”
Now for ceremonies, Casita is much more jovial and overall, a happy house. But there's still a threatening feeling in there, it's as if the air is saying "Try something and you'll never be seen again"
Mirabel does have a room but no gift, not like she really needed one. She did feel bad but was told by abuela that he didn't have a gift, her abuela doesn't have a gift, and neither does her papa and Tio yet they are still special.
Seeing as she's a moth, her room is very soft and comfy. Pillows and cushions and such. Just real soft and relaxing place.
Lastly, my inspiration for Cryptid alma was slender man. Like him, she's capable of causing something called "slender sickness," with symptoms that include nausea and vomiting blood. she can induce madness and an affliction known as "scribbling in," which causes people to draw and write nonstop.
Both parents, who were so far into insanity at that point, actually confessed that they were abuser and caused their children to run away.
They confessed because they kept having hallucinations of the twins. Their "corpses" just staring at them any time of the day. She can do this to anyone by just touching them, and at the time, she "accidentally" bumped into the mother and later the father.
ANTI SOCIAL CASITA YEAHHHHH
No but it is pretty funny when you think about it. Casita isn't even anti-social to other houses, it's with people too which is INSANE 👩‍🦲 the fact that it doesn't mind kids though is cute, like it'll just play with them, whereas with adults suddenly it's a whole menace.
Like kids are talking about how fun the house is. At worst its like a haunted house, but they aren't necessarily scared. Meanwhile the adults are like??? That thing is more than just haunted.
Pedro doing the painting trick is so funny 💀 I think that, at least in the day and when Casita is up for actual visitors, Pedro's painting is covered. Sometimes, if Alma doesn't do it, the kids will go up to take off the covering at night and Pedro will scare the crap out of them and start chasing them. It's all in good fun though.
Even the triplets do it sometime, who cares if they're 50?? They can still have fun 🦀🦀 Shoot, even the husbands fall for it sometimes. The only person who has yet to fall for being scared by Pedro is Alma. Is just doesn't work on her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At least the kids aren't scared of Camilo. Anyone with two eyeballs and some brain cells could see tgere's something wrong with him but the kids? As far as they know, is strange and off appearance is just him using his gift in a funny way. Which good for him, because I'm sure he means well when it comes to younger ones, especially ones similar to Antonio in age.
And his laugh makes so much sense, including his voice in general. What if his mouth rarely ever opens?? Like his voice sort of just projects, and he doesn't actually make the effort to sound out words; he can, he just doesn't.
W Pedro for being present in the family's lives even in death. Bro was not about to give that up 🙏🙏 good on him, even if he has to use what is probably similar to the fear gas that the Scarecrow uses 🌚 at least, that's what I imagined. It just doesn't affect the Madrigals negatively. Glad Mirabel got a room, who needs a miracle when you got cryptid powers 🪕🪕
Tumblr media
Also you already know that some people steer clear of Alma even in her human form. They learned the hard way of what the aftermath is to sneaking into Casita unprompted 🥸🥸
And like she had every right, why WERE they sneaking in at that time?? Like sorry she defended herself and her family???
AND THE NAME!!! THANK YOU!! I had genuinely forgotten it 💀💀

Some episodes I want to see if an Encanto TV series is made:
Beach day
Family road trip
Young triplets
An episode focused on each grandkid- we get to see their rooms and their stories
Young Alma and Pedro
Rat sidestory
Madrigals make a play
Triplets doing something like baking or cooking together
Bruno, Félix, and Agustín have a guy's night
The first triplet birthday after Bruno returns
Christmas episode
Colombian traditions and holidays like Día de Los Santos Inocentes
So much can be done with this family. Not making a series would be a mistake.
Any more episode ideas to add to the list? 📺

In Their Eyes I See You;
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: Alma didn't just lose Pedro.
She lost everything.
Aka Alma sees Pedro and their families in their triplets.
Encantober Bingo 2024: Recognition.
Trigger Warnings: mention of grief, raids, fighting, threats of violence, and implied character death.
Co-written with @igetthedisneybox .
------------------------------------------------------------
Contrary to popular relief, Alma Olga Madrigal Botero (formerly Botero Molinari) didn't just lose her husband the night the raiders attacked.
Didn't just lose her wonderful, wonderful, playful, thoughtful, poetic Pedro….
No.
She lost much more than her husband. Much more than her triplets’ father.
She lost everything.
Her home. Her parents. Her brother. Pedro's family. Even some of her friends.
Alma had lost everything she had ever known in one night, with the exception of her children—her children who she was absolutely terrified to lose and who she held on too tightly to.
Her children.
Pedro's children.
Alma wasn't sure she would be able to live without them if something happened. Didn't want to know if she ever could get over something that horrible.
(Not when she still hadn't gotten over losing Pedro).
She didn't want to imagine her life without her sweet, responsible, sensible Julieta.
Didn't want to imagine her life without her fiery, impassioned, loud Pepa.
Didn't want to imagine her life without her and Pedro’s quirky, helpful, shy little Brunito.
She couldn't bear the thought of losing any of the triplets and so, she refused to even think of such a thing—just like she refused to let herself think of Pedro and the life they had, had all those years ago. When they were young and hopeful and still a they.
But no matter how hard Alma tried, she couldn't completely forget her and Pedro's families— because she saw them in her children every day.
------------------------------------------------------------
Her eldest, her precious Julieta, strongly reminded her of her own mother, Alba.
Her madre had been a strong woman, who knew what she wanted in life. Stern at times, playful at others. She was the head of the family, and Alma’s father liked it that way.
Alma sees the way Julieta acts with her siblings, always leading them, guiding them, sometimes scolding, but other times joining in on the fun. Julieta was never one to back down when she knew she was right.
She recognized her mother in how closely Julieta resembled her—especially after a long sleepless night when she was too tired to take her hair of it's messy braid before having her coffee (before she had lopped it all off in frustration one night).
But the moment where Alma saw her mother in Julieta the most was when she and her eldest had gotten in a fight over the Matriarch’s loud and vocal disapproval of Agustín Rojas Valdez.
“You can not control every single aspect of my life! I love him! And if you don’t accept that, then we’ll just leave!”
------------------------------------------------------------
Alma was four the last time she saw either of her mother's padres.
She didn't remember most of what had occurred.
In fact, all she remembered was that one moment the familia was having dinner and the next her mother was fighting with her mother.
“This is MY life and I refuse to let you control it any longer! Andre is a good man and I will not allow you to continue disrespecting him and our family by insinuating I made a mistake!” Alba had said, arms crossed, chin raised, and a glare in her eyes. “if you can't accept that, then we'll just leave!”
And so they did.
------------------------------------------------------------
Alma stared at her daughter.
Julieta stared right back at her, chin raised. Arms crossed. And a glare in her eyes.
Looking so much like her abuela had—though she'd never know it—just forty years younger.
And maybe, Alma could have continued to argue. Could have risked it like her own grandmother had—but she didn't. Very aware of just how similar her daughter was to her own mother. “Very well.”
Ignoring Julieta's gobsmacked look, Alma turned on her heel and headed to her room. Hoping to shake the spirit of her mother out of her mind before dinner.
------------------------------------------------------------
Pepa, meanwhile, reminded her a lot of her sister-in-law, Alejandra.
Her younger brother, Raimi's, wife.
Alejandra was a wild woman, who participated in sword fighting and liked taxidermy. Her emotions could change on a dime, and she took everything so seriously.
Her family had a miracle of their own: The female Yees could shapeshift into beasts to protect themselves, and the shift was often tied to their emotional states.
Very much like Pepa’s weather powers.
“TOUCH MY HERMANO AGAIN AND I'LL FRY YOU!”
------------------------------------------------------------
“Touch my betrothed again—” Alejandra snarled, towering over two men who had been giving Raimi trouble in her red panda form.
Which wouldn't have been very intimidating if not for the fact she was taller than the homes in their village.
"ALEJANDRA, DON'T—"
“—and I'LL RIP YOU LIMB FROM LIMB!”
The men never bothered Alma's brother again and it was in that moment that Alma knew that no other woman would ever be good enough for her brother in her eyes.
------------------------------------------------------------
“JOSEFA ALEJANDRA INÉS MADRIGAL BOTERO, DON'T YOU DARE!”
And just like Alejandra, Pepa didn't listen to Alma either.
------------------------------------------------------------
Her little Bruno reminded her of both hers, and Pedro’s, fathers.
Her father, Andre, was a shy but playful man. He was a local actor, which Bruno seemed to embrace wholeheartedly.
“My true gift is acting, I always liked to say.” Bruno had joked on numerous occasions before he inevitably put on a show for his sobrinos and their friends with his rats.
------------------------------------------------------------
“Ah, but my dear children, my true gift is acting!” Her father said with a smile on his face, winking— earning a squeal of laughter from a then, three year old, Raimi.
Alma still denied it to this day, but it had earned a snort from her too.
------------------------------------------------------------
Bruno resembled Pedro's father, Fernando, greatly physically. But that didn't mean that their personalities didn't lack similarities.
Like both Bruno and Andre, Ferndando was introverted and shy. He was an animal lover, and just generally goofy, from what Alma remembered of him.
He was also an anxious wreck a lot of the time, something that Bruno unfortunately inherited.
Along with the superstitions.
------------------------------------------------------------
The first time Fernando had met Alma, he'd knocked on wood three times—muttering under his breath—and had thrown salt over his shoulder.
Just barely missing her.
“We don't get a lot of guests.” Pedro had smiled sheepishly at her.
------------------------------------------------------------
Alma sighed, watching as Bruno threw salt over his shoulder—causing it to get in little Camilo’s hair.
Much to Pepa’s fury.
It seemed like Alma would never be able to stop seeing her fallen friends and family in her children or their children.
(Mirabel and Camilo were so much like Pedro —).
It was as if she was being haunted by them….

Encanto God au
I got another Alma and Mirabel bonding au!
Ok so, what if the Madrigals were gods? Like:
The story/au goes that Alma fell in love with a human man, Pedro. Her parents, friends, and even strangers told her that it won’t end well but Alma, being the young goddess she was, didn’t listen. The way they met was at the candle festival, Alma loved festivals, so she wasn’t going to pass up a fun time.
So, she disguised herself as a human and went to the festival. Soon meeting the love of her life.  They dated, got married, and had three demigod children. Everyone on earth and above the clouds were of course happy for them. But her parents and friends couldn’t fight the feeling of something going wrong.
On the night of the triplets' birth, Alma was in a deep coma like sleep, as any mother would be. While asleep with her three babies next to her, Pedro was outside talking to a “friend”. This “friend” got word of Pedro marrying a goddess and having children with her. His jealousy got the best of him and when Pedro was in his calmest and happiest state…he killed him.
Not long after Alma woke up in a cold sweat and went outside to look for her husband. At the moment, a raid was going on. Houses and stores are up in flames, men with machetes on horses left and right and Pedro…After what seemed like days of weeping and sobbing, she found the man who killed her husband and…dealt with him properly, let's say.
After that incident, the only humans allowed to come near her were Pedro’s parents, high up on Monte Encanto (Mount Encanto, Like Mount Olympus ). Humans can only go to Mount Olympus when they are invited, no other way. On the plus side, it’s incredibly too high for any human to climb.
Alma was quite upset and hates herself for not being vigilant enough to protect her husband, therefore she’s going to protect her children and never let them near humans. In her mind, falling in love with them is the worst thing you can do, on both sides.
Where does Mirabel come in? Give me a sec
Remember how I mentioned Pedro’s parents? Yeah, they wanted his grave to be on earth. They wanted it on earth because they didn’t want to constantly have to have Alma’s permission for them to see their own son’s grave on mount Encanto. So, out of respect of his parents, she lets the grave be on earth and every so often she visits it when she needs time alone or is too stressed out.
Her children sometimes tag along with her on his birthday and leave some flowers or gifts for him to take into the afterlife. You know how the skeletons in Coco would take a magical version of the gift sat on their grave?
Yeah, they believe that’s how he takes the gifts. On one of his birthdays, the triplets and Alma visited his grave with gifts to give him. While doing so, they heard a faint cry. A baby's cry, they looked around to see if there was any baby in the distance. They didn’t see anything. The cry was far but close enough to hear, which is strange, who would leave a baby at a graveyard of all places?
After looking around a bit more, they found a little baby girl in a basket near a tree. She was small, very small, and she looked…new. Like not even a day new, like she was born mere hours ago.
Julieta, being the caring mother she is, picked the baby up and held her close. The little infant was cold, very cold, and from the vibe she was giving Julieta, more than likely sick.
“She’s just a baby, who would do such a thing?!”
Alma stared at the little one and she knew right then and there, she had to care for this child. Unlike her granddaughters, who had been born within the safety of alabaster stone pylons, and in the presence of trained nursemaids draped in maroon and gold silks, this little baby had no such luxury.
Unlike Isabela, whose head was christened in rosewater the minute she was birthed, or Luisa who was immediately coddled in the finest of linens to warm, or Dolores who was put in the finest cradle made of gold and calming scented clouds to lay her head on. Mirabel was in nothing but a withered old basket and wearing…nothing. There was a simple small blanket covering her, nothing more.
And to top it all off, she was born on her late husband's birthday, March 6th. This little girl was a miracle. She would’ve called her a gift from the gods but she just went with a gift from her Pedro.
So, from then on, little Mirabel (or sometimes Miracle) was welcomed into the family as a Madrigal. A mere human yes, but still an amazing little gift that Alma welcomed with open arms.
She was going to teach her everything from literature, mathematics, combat, science, just anything in the little girl's early years to make sure that she was going to be strong, independent, and smart just like her.
“I give you my word neita, you will be outstanding”
Mirabel/Miracle was given to Julieta and Agustin to care for but…it’s more like Alma adopted her herself. She read her stories, gave her gifts, fed her, clothed in the best clothes, etc. To make sure absolutely nothing happened to her little Miracle, Alma made a potion for Mirabel to take everyday to make sure she’s immortal.
The potion was supposed to give her other magical properties but it only gave her immortality, no god magic like her sisters or primos. No super strength, healing, no ability to control weather, ability to make plants, shapeshifting, or hear from far places, nothing.
No matter how many potions Alma made, no magic from her family would stick besides immortality. No matter, she was still special, and will forever be special in Alma’s eyes.
At school (for the god kids, but Mirabel was easily accepted in) Alma made sure she only had the best teachers, if she couldn’t always be the one teaching her then Alma was going to make sure gods who were well qualified were going to.
Mirabel isn’t bullied per say but she isn’t well liked either. To gods, humans aren’t anything but an annoyance or something to play with. So seeing something you were taught to not see as anything but a speck is doing better in class than you…does get annoying. And most of them think she doesn’t deserve to be there
All of the god kids avoid her unless they are paired up with her for an assignment. Other than that, they don’t pay much attention to her, and it’s easier for them because they are much taller in comparison to her. They don’t even have to look down in her direction.
God children ages 1-5 are about half her height at fifteen. So in this au, Antonio is at her shoulders, Camilo is four feet above her, Luisa is two feet above him, Isabela/Dolores are three feet over her, and the adults are a few inches above the two oldest girls.
Alma keeps her height small in case she has to talk to Mirabel, who she knows can’t stand her smallness. Did I mention that Mirabel needs to nearly climb everything in her castle to get to it? If no one in the family is around she really has to climb her way to the kitchen counter just to make a snack.
Oh, and Alma doesn’t look old is this au. From what I’ve read in Greek mythology and seen in Greek statues, none of the gods look or seem to be older than 30 so Alma looks 26 but she’s about the same age she is in canon. Same goes for the triplets, no gray hair or that much wrinkles.
Mirabel does have her own room in this au and all that jazz. I’m not so sure what to do for dynamics but I think I’ll keep things the same? Idk,
I was thinking that maybe Mirabel, Camilo, and Dolores are ok with each other, but leave them in a room alone and it’s just gonna be…awkward and silent. They don’t talk much seeing as they just have stuff to do but they're alright with each other. Antonio and Mira still have that cute little brother and older sister relationship though.
Luisa and Mirabel are cool, Luisa is a little overprotective of her, but it’s not to the point of where it’s annoying. I’m not sure about Isabela and Mirabel’s relationship though. I feel like Isabela is slightly Jealous that Mirabel gets more attention from Alma in regards to gifts, excellent teachers, and knowledge about anything and everything she gives her.
Don’t get me wrong, she loves her and would rip the entire fabric of the universe for her, but Isa just isn’t quite sure what to do with her. Julieta and Agustin are still loving parents and shower her with love and care when they can.
Felix and Pepa love her too and speak to her when they have the time. Bruno does the same and cracks some jokes if she’s ever upset.
The idea that I had is that Mirabel is like Ariel but different. She wants to go to the human world just to feel normal. Her thinking is that she's a person just like the rest of the people in the village she sees.
Nobody is up on some high horse of superiority; the people are just people. No one treats or looks at her like she's some omen you're not supposed to talk to.
On the plus side, they don't ignore her as if she isn't there and it's a rarity for anyone to be above 6'4, she's amazed by the simple fact that her height is average among girls and some boys.
The only problem is that she knows damn well she isn't supposed to be down there. Alma expects everyone, Including Mirabel, to not talk to humans.
"It'll be the worst thing you could do, for both ends"
But Mirabel isn't a goddess, just a human with immortality, so nothing can go wrong right?
That’s all I’ve got for now, if you have any ideas, let me know! Oh, and here's everyone's majors
Alma - Goddess of strength, independence, fertility, and festivity
Julieta - Goddess of peace, healing and fertility
Agustin - God of loyalty, crafting, and perseverance
Isabela - Goddess of flowers, elegance, and beauty
Luisa - Goddess of strength, independence, and loyalty
Pepa - Goddess of war, emotions, and storms
Felix - God of light, happiness, and love
Dolores - Goddess of silence, peace, and music
Camilo - God of trickery, comedy, and festivity
Antonio - God of animals, happiness, and imagination
Bruno - God of Prophecy, wisdom, and laughter/comedy

Have my golden rule, got to keep my cool
She had never allowed herself to grieve properly.
@encantober-official prompt - Wall
Tumblr media
Once before she used to be Alma. A young woman who thought she could have a bright future. She was married, and nobody in the world could bring her nearly the half of joy Pedro gave her. Everything was great. In a slowpace, they were ready to raise three little angels. Nobody ever thought that it could go so wrong.
And then...  well, it went wrong. Tearing her skin, leaving painful bruises when things shifted so drastically in what seemed to be just a few hours. When Alma carried on, despite unhearable agony in her body after giving birth three times in a row. She didn't know how she managed to get this far. Maybe adrenaline, maybe her maternal instinct pushed her throught. Demanding to protect the younth that wouldn't be able to survive. Regardless, they went forward. With just the candle flame showing what was to come.
The truth is, Alma died that night too. Her soul was torn apart, turned into a bloody mess that wasn't supposed to be alive. Water filled her lungs until she choked on it. Alma didn't come out without Pedro. Who did survive was Señora Madrigal. A newfound leader of the small community. Who held responsibility over a bunch of refugees. That time, she didn't have time to proceed what happened. Accept it. Señora Madrigal needed to ensure their community was safe. She pushed herself no matter how much she cried at the night. Even if her throat felt in a tight knot. If sometimes staring at the water, just for a second she could see that river hidden behind the mountains.
Señora Madrigal pushed these feelings in the back of her head. There were many things to worry about. Much more important. She couldn't let Pedro's death be useless. If it created a safe place for them, Señora Madrigal had to ensure it stayed this way. She didn't allow herself to slip and break down. At least not in front of anyone. She had placed stone walls around her vulnerable parts. And the longer time Señora had spent within them, the stronger it became. Her pain  was locked down, buried deeper than six feet underground. Nobody needed to know how much fear was wrenching her gut. When she felt like she couldn't breathe. When for a moment the only thing she could see was Pedro's body falling limp into the water.
Even if sometimes the only thing she wanted is to be Alma again. A young woman with a bright future and not someone weighed by a mourning shawl. Or a wedding right the second half of which was melted into the soft mug. The longer time had passed, more distant she felt from who she was used to be. The walls didn't crack. They stood as invincible as their house or the majestic mountains around the village. Alma could learn how to ignore her own mind begging her to run when something was too loud (when the blood was spilling out like a burst of coldness). She was the leader and she had to hold it together. Pushing her feeling down until they drowned. Never letting herself crack. She had no right, Pedro didn't die for her to whin.
Even if by now nobody could remember Señora Madrigal as Alma. As a young cheerful and optimistic woman. And not a pillar who controlled everything. Not someone responsible for each and every thing. Her youth was long gone. Pushed aside to allow her to rise from the ashes like burning Phoenix. Thick as blood in front of her eyes, the walls kept the worst moments of her life behind. There was no need to look at the past, it would never bring Pedro back. The only way was to keep working hard. Make sure that his sacrifice didn't go pointless. Protect the miracle so no one else would know this stinging pain of loss. It wasn't about her. Everyone needed safety. Ten of thirty years, the walls didn't break. They pushed the memories back. Not a single tear would ever shred from her eyes. At least not when anyone could see it. They all knew Alma as a steady pillar that never breaks. Always hard and stoic in the face of life challenges.
(She had lost count of how many times she woke up feeling like she couldn't breathe. Vision tainted in red)
Even if her heart still ached. Even if Alma didn't feel safe deep inside. Always scared that if the miracle faded, somebody would come to slaughter them. And she would lost the rest of her family. Again all alone with nobody to hold on. So, instead Alma didn't allow herself to question. With hard work, the miracle would he safe. And nobody would suffer. They didn't deserve to go throught the same thing as Alma did. Nobody deserved seeing their loved ones dying. (And Alma wasn't sure if her soul could survive this again). And as long as their Miracle knew it wasn't taken for granted, they would thrive. Nobody had to lose their life like she did. No matter how hard it was, she wouldn’t let herself crumble in pieces. The past was in the past. And nobody needed to know just how strong the bleeding was. Even after all these years. Not quite an aching wound, but a small cut that just couldn’t stop dripping with blood.
As long as they kept pushing, the miracle would be fine. Everything would be alright.

Week Three: AU week!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part One: The Happily-married with-children AU
In this AU, Angela and Bruno come to their conclusive feelings far, far sooner than in ‘canon’ upon discovering that she is pregnant. She is 25 at the time, traveling up around in Cartagena, when she realizes something is not right. She comes back home much sooner than anticipated after missing two of her cycles, and when she is able to get Bruno alone, she breaks the news of her suspicions.
At this point in time, the two of them have been ‘sneaking around’ for about six years now, and their families are somewhat aware of the things they get up to, and similar to how many families handle improper issues, they’ve tried to ignore it so it wouldn’t cause problems. But now there is a ‘problem.’ Bruno and Angela’s feelings for each other are…love, not that they really recognize it as such, but they are extremely domestic and compassionate with each other, and Angela pretty much lives with the Madrigals when she isn’t off gallivanting across the continent. The news of Angela’s pregnancy takes Bruno by surprise, and he is overcome with a whirlwind of feelings, including panic and fear and excitement, but above all, deep deep love. If he had absolutely no self control when she had very timidly told him, he would have swept her up into his arms and told her how much he loved her. But he is settled by the fear of ‘oh no, her father is going to kill me.’ Angela wants to be entirely sure of her situation before they tell anyone else, so he vows secrecy, and the two don’t end up telling his mother or her family until another month has passed.
Alma is…trying to keep her composure when the two of them tell her. She’s a little upset, mostly because ‘these damn kids keep dancing around their feelings while messing around, now look at what they’ve done,’ and she has the responsibility of being a positive and righteous example for the rest of the town, and how can she do that with these two running around having babies out of wedlock?? But at the same time, she is overjoyed that her son will ‘finally’ have a child, and Isabela and Dolores have already been born to his sisters. Alma has considered Angela a daughter for many many years now, and she knows how her son looks at Angela. It’s love and it has been for so long now, and she wants nothing more for them to just get their heads out of their fears and hang ups and just get married already goddamnit!
The two of them briefly bring up the idea of marriage, but Bruno does not push it as he doesn’t want ‘propriety’ and the fact that she is having his kid to determine what she chooses to do with her life. In fact, for much of her pregnancy, Bruno does not try to impose his own feelings on her. He makes it clear from the beginning that he will be by her side no matter what, unless she wishes for him to leave her be. Any decision she makes, he will stand by her choice and support her. Alma initially tries to push them to get married as quickly as possible, but Bruno all but begs his mother to not force his Angel into something she doesn’t want, as he is still not quite sure what her feelings are towards him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On June 26, 1929, Enele Pedro Delmar Madrigal Morales is born. Angela’s pregnancy with her son was difficult to say the very least, and the extreme prolonged labor almost did her in. After many many hours and a shoulder dystocia, he finally came into the world, a healthy happy baby boy with a head full of wispy dark curls. The name Enele comes from Angela’s great uncle, who had taken Guillermo (her father) in when he was young and had passed away before the refuge of the Encanto was formed, and Guillermo had revealed to her that if she had been born a boy, that’s what he and Anamaria had decided to name her in that situation. Pedro is used as the second name for the boy, and Angela had almost insisted that it be his first name, but Bruno, again, did not want to have too much influence on if Angela indeed want to go through with marrying him. About a year and a half later, Angela and Bruno are properly married. Though Bruno was entirely certain and confident in his feelings towards Angela, she was very lost in her emotions through her pregnancy and was scared to impose herself on Bruno, and following the birth of Enele, she too finally felt certain that she loved Bruno with everything in her heart. Enele’s gift is the control of water. He is the most extroverted and outgoing of his siblings, and is a very protective older brother over his sisters. He loves to feel helpful, and primarily uses his gift to alleviate some of the emotional pressure Pepa is under in regards to irrigation and potential destruction caused by heavy weather.
On February 1, 1932, Esmeralda Leilani Alma Madrigal Morales is born about a month premature, very very small with bright green eye just like her father’s. She was a far easier pregnancy and birth for Angela, and the woman had joked a few times about doing cartwheels and cliff diving when she was 6 months in, much to Bruno’s panic and anxiety. On her fifth birthday, she is gifted with tactile empathy and manipulation of emotions. She uses her gift primarily to ease and mediate tense situations between the family and the people in town. Struggling with nightmares and anxiety? She can calm down your overactive thoughts. Are you angry with someone and don’t know how to peacefully articulate how you feel? She can relieve some of the tension. And with her tactile abilities, she is able to feel the emotions tied to people and objects when she touches them. This gift comes at a bit of a cost to her own emotionally stability, and for that reason, Angela and Bruno are large advocates of their daughter to protect her wellbeing. For this, Esme also tends to wear long sleeved clothing and occasionally gloves to protect herself from unwanted contact.
And their last baby, Evangelina Remedios Anamaria Madrigal Morales, is born on July 30, 1934. She is blessed with a pair of wings on her gift ceremony. Her gift is within a similar vein to Antonio’s, in that it is a bit more indulgent than out of being ‘useful.’ While she does occasionally use her gift to travel quickly and relay messages and delivers to people across town, her wings are more so for her own enjoyment, flying up into the clouds and fluttering up through the tall canopy tree tops of the jungle. She is not quite as introverted and withdrawn as her sister, nor as outgoing and wild as her brother, but a happy medium between the extremes of her siblings.
The reason this AU is called the ‘happily-married-with-children’ AU is because it is happy. In this universe, Bruno does not leave his family or go into hiding. His issues regarding the pressure from his mother and his less than incredible reputation in town is buffered by the fact that he is surrounded by the love of his beautiful wife and three children. This is not to say that anyone’s self esteem issues can be fixed with having a romantic partner and kids, but I truly do not believe that Bruno would be a man who would abandon his partner and children if he had that. So, yes, this does ‘retcon’ the canon, and I am still working out some of the details, but in the end, this is a happy universe for these characters that have gone through so much hell already. In the words of @sharknadoslutt who encouraged this AU…“AU where Bruno knocks Angela up and he never goes into hiding. Happy AU where they admit feelings early on and have a family theater thing going on”

do u have any alma and pedro headcanons?? LOVE ur blog queen 😋😋
aww thank you so much!! and ooh this is interesting ask! I never get questions about alma and pedro but I think it would be fun to explore them!
some of these are inspired from “tale of three sisters” encanto book! I highly recommend it!!
pedro is confirmed to be a writer so I feel like he would write poetry and stories for alma or inspired by her!!
Alma snorts when she laughs!! and pedro finds it really cute!
Pedro taught her to sew and then she passed it down to her kids!
Pedro is dramatic!! he’s very theatrical in nature! (we can see where madrigals get that from)
I feel like alma was always someone who was community orientated! her and pedro probably got lots of help as a young couple from the village! and they would return the favor!
Pedro is a really good cook! and alma is a really good dancer!
both of them learned to play an instrument! (don’t know what but I think them as musicians is fun!)
pedro would talk to the babies as they were growing inside alma all the time! like full on conversation! “your mama is real stressed right now could you calm down on the kicking”
Pedro always wanted to be a dad!
he’s also a really bad snorer but alma loves him too much to say that!
Pedro is impatient! he can get annoyed easily whilst alma is more patient!
He loves exploring and starts talking to alma about the places they were going to visit with the triplets!

Encantober 4: Mystery
The Madrigal matriarch was not an easy woman to alarm, this was very well known, but then it was not every day she was approached by a pair of distressed parents informing her that their daughter was pregnant, and that her son was the father.
She did her best to maintain her composure as discussion with the parents and the young couple confirmed this to be the truth, and she spoke of her family’s commitment to doing the right thing, and offering assurances that the child would be accepted and that of course there would be a wedding should that be what everyone truly wanted.
Things got as smoothed over as they possibly could be, and when a moment of quiet finally came she turned to Bruno and shook her head. “I hope you’re happy with yourself.”
“Me?” he said, face scrunched in confusion. “Why? I didn’t do anything.”
“That’s exactly it!” Mirabel flailed her arms and continued her pacing across the patio. “You didn’t think this was worth a little warning? Some sort of…’hey kid, your son’s going to knock up a tourist, keep an eye on him’ would’ve been helpful.”
Bruno blew a raspberry and waved her off, settling back in his big wicker chair. The sun glinted off hair which was definitely more silver than brown, and she had to look away because it made her think of Abuela.
“You know I don’t look into the family’s future on purpose, Mira,” he remarked, shrugging. “The glimpses I get these days are…oh look, more kids, wonder who they belong to. Some things are meant to be solved and some should just be simply a mystery.”
Mirabel stopped her restless pacing, folded her arms, and sighed. Out on the lawn her spouse was playing with their youngest, distracting them from the tension in the household. Behind her she could hear the radio playing and a clatter in the kitchen, her mother laughing and admonishing her father to be more careful. If she looked to the front walk she could probably catch the other children coming home from school, and if she turned and glanced up she suspected she could find her eldest brooding in a corner under Casita’s eaves.
“And she’s not a tourist,” Bruno went on as he offered a treat to one of his rats. “The Deckers have been here a couple of years, I think that- her name is Erica?”
“Yes, Erica.”
“Right, I think that Erica and Pedro and the baby are going to be fine.”
She wanted to believe that, and considering the source she was willing to do so. Even without it being a proper prophecy, she trusted Bruno’s opinion on such matters.
“Hey, kid, with all of this, you know what you should be worried about?”
Mirabel turned to him, frowning. “What?”
He gave her an apologetic smile and lifted his eyebrows. “Your prima.”
“Huh? Why would Dolor-” She gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. “I’m going to be an abuela before she is.”
“Yep.”
“And she has to already kno- oh God she’s going to kill me.”
“Maybe. I mean, she might go after your son first but-”
“I really, really hope you’re happy with yourself!”
“Again, I didn’t do anything!”
Later, Mirabel would decide that it would be a good idea to gently encourage the young couple to name their firstborn, should it be a boy, after Bruno. They were open to the idea, and followed through accordingly.
*
(NOTES: Yes, Mirabel's eldest son is named Pedro, his is a bit of a disaster human, I have no idea what his gift is. Yes, the baby in question has a cameo in the A Prophet In His Own Land epilogue. Dolores does not in fact kill anyone. I am turning into one of those authors who has plans and ideas for the next gen of kids, send help.)

Note
I have had this idea for a while what if the candle granted a wish that alma had said like she wished that mirabel wasn't part of the family anymore and the candle granted it over night ( mirabel is young like 8) and years go by the family besides alma is sad or something but mirabels new family comes to the encanto for a new scenery (mirabel doesn't knownthe madrigals anymore)
Alma has made a lot of wishes since arriving to the Encanto. Wishing that Pedro were here, that her children were safe. That her people could prosper and the danger would pass them and her son would come back home.
Many wishes, multiple times. Aloud and just in private. All prayers, clutching her candle to her chest. So why that one?
She's shocked, and then guilty, and then furious, and then sad. She didn't know she could do that, that the Miracle could do that, would do that, at her request. She starts to overthink everything she's ever said. Maybe Bruno hasn't come back because he can't, because she hid her devastation with anger and wished he'd stay gone, if he could abandon his family like that.
Everyone believes Mirabel ran away, no one would believe that Casita would let someone come in and make off with a child. And Alma herself doesn't even understand how it happened, how could she explain what she feels in her heart? The releasing of pressure she felt when the words had left her mouth? It doesn't make sense, if she really thinks about it, maybe the girl did runaway.
Needless to say, the new family, with a friendly young woman and round glasses shakes Alma and the Madrigals to the core.
