I see hurt/comfort fanfics of Bart and sometimes they write the way he handles emotions completely wrong. I guess it depends which timeline it takes place in, but 95 Bart would NOT lie about his emotions and “act happy” or something like that. He had specifically said that he did not like lying. In the Rebirth however, he’s seemed to put down his actual emotions more like in the yj2019. (and didn’t open up until issue 16.)

but like I said, it depends on the timeline, because as Bart grew up he also became better at hiding his actual emotions from people, but young Bart would be more likely to open up than “fake smile” (and usually the people who write it like this are the same people who writes him as the extroverted happy friend) And even in yj19 he didn’t really play it happy he just buried those emotions deep down until it was all over.
