Joe Black· Jul 27 [2024] I majored in Business and Management, not science. Apparently you don’t have any idea about university college courses. Bachelor of Science or Arts, simply means it’s a 4 year course. A certificate course is 2 years. Bachelor of Science course have branches like Hotel & Restaurant management, Entreprenuer, Management, Accounting and such. I was born on March 20, 2002 in Higatangan Naval Biliran, the youngest of 2 siblings. I grew up in a loving family, surrounded by the beauty of Naval, Biliran. From a young age, I was always curious about the world around me. I loved to read, to learn, and to explore. I was fortunate to have many opportunities to travel and see new places, and I made the most of them. I was also passionate about playing music. Whether it was in our church, or our family boding, I always gave my all and strived to be the best that I could be. In my professional life, I was a young entreprenuer. I worked hard and dedicated myself to my craft, always seeking to improve and innovate. I am proud of the work that I did and the impact that I had on the world. I was also a loving spouse, parent, and friend. I cherished the relationships that I had with those closest to me, and I will always be grateful for the love and support that they gave me. I am leaving behind a legacy of helping others, especially my family. I hope that my life has inspired others to pursue their passions and to make a positive impact on the world. 1. Tell us about your journey in the industry so far?

I started my career as soon as I turned 18, my first stint began in 2013 at a fashion export house in Noida & I learnt a lot about the fashion business there. I joined the fashion export house for quick money because my family was going through a challenging time. During this time I also reflected a lot on my personality, my style & the way I presented myself. Though I was very passionate & intutive about fashion but the dream of becoming an anchor & facing the camera that I saw as a little girl was still on my list. I use to save a little share of money for a course in mass media & I joined ISOMES in 2016 & came one-step closer to my dream but I had to quit my job at the export house. I had to study & also be financially independent, so I applied at a BPO in gurgoan & got selected. I use to travel 3 states (Delhi, Noida & Gurgaon every day) I lived in delhi & studied in Noida & worked in Gurgaon, I use to catch up on my sleep in the cab during transit. But those days were so enriching & fulfilling for me. I in 2018 I came to know Times Network was looking for interns & I immediately applied & got selected, then I moved to Daily Hunt as an Anchor & later I was anchoring a sport show on News 24. So I was exposed to 3 types of businesses & I realised it very quickly that I will be an entrepreneuer one day.

2. What’s fashion for you?

Fashion for me is about comfort, whatever I am wearing I need to be comfortable in that. However I have observed there are many who will wear anything that is trending. Fashion is not about trends or fads, it is about comfort, expression & a way of life. So if you see a model wearing something that is suiting her & then you make the same purchase but then you end up looking very average. You need to understand your body type, your complexion things that your body will be comfortable in & then make a decision to define your personal style. 

3. What do u enjoy the most? Anchoring or life coaching?

Well, I believe anchoring is all about command, the anchor always drives the converstation & it is in their control. I like to express my thoughts, my principals & learnings with others. I am not a life coach but yes I am here to motivate the masses through my journey, my channel Nikology & it is my endeavour to inspire millions of girls like me who come from humble backgrounds but have the capabilities to touch the sky.

4. Any challenges that you face?

Yes, I have faced my share of challenges at the beginning of my career & I would like to put it out straight that life is all about turning your challenges into opportunities & learnings. You will face challenges at every walk of life, but what matters is how gracefully you face the challenges instead of giving up or running away from it. Positive affirmitions are very important, when I was facing a challenge I use to tell myself, this is a phase & it will pass and everything will be alright. Believing in yourself & having clarity is extremely critical, as a young girl coming from a muslim family I was not allowed to dream big. But everytime I was told not to I told myself I will not compromise & I will make it big one day. Life for women is never easy be it home makers or women who have careers, we are put under restrictions, laughed at when we drive, we face patriachy in our homes & sexism at workplaces. But it is important to understand we have these challenges because women themselves love to target eachother & bring eachother down. On the contrary women should support each other, contribute in each others growth both personal & business. And that is something i am working towards, I am in the process of building a community of learners, influencers & entreprenuers where a higher percentage of members will be females. Because I firmly believe one thing ‘The future is female.’

5. One advice to budding talents

I only have one advice no matter what you go through or how big the challenge is always have faith in one person and that is yourself.

6. Where do you see the fashion industry in coming years? In the coming years Fashion industry will enter a magical phase, I say this because in the recent 3-4 years people have become more aware about expressing themselves with their style, with the advent of eCommerce & FDI people have access to their favorite brands at the click of their fingers. In this era of fashion influencers people are exposed to different styles everyday, there is a new trend that is picking up in India recently ‘Thrifting’ with this concept everyone will be able to buy their favorite clothes, which will be really good for the environment & the big brands will finally reach the length & breath of Bharat.

Mr Mwimanenwa's face stands out on the fashion designing tapestry in Zambia for his odd-defying background and just his singular ability to simultenouly pursue two completely diferent goals. Question: Can you please tell us, "Who is Given Mwimanenwa?

Ans: I am a young man... born and bred as a Zambian... a Westerner, despite being born and brought up in the Southern Province. I did my primary and secondary education in Southern Province, I completed secondary education in 2009 at Namalundu High School; currently persuing bachelor of arts in Theology at Rusangu University.

Question: We heard you are into fashion designing. Can you please tell us what inspired you to embark on this despite your current pastoral pursuit?

Ans: Yes.. from childhood, I have been an artist; inspired by my elder brother, David Mwimanenwa, and in the process, my late elder sister Royce who was a tailor. And as such, the influence got to me. She used to refuse us from using her machine, that it may get destroyed. But whenever she left, while there was no one home, I would get on the machine and try to work on something without her knowledge. Later on in grade 8, I chose one of my subjects, Home Economics; there I was introduced to some basic principles of fashion and designing. This is my background of fashion and designing. In 2020, somewhere around November, I attended a short course for fashion and designing. And I was introduced to some detailed principals on fashion and designing. Though short, I got something from it..

Question: What was your parent's take when they saw you take up such talent while you were in school?

Ans: Remember my late sister was into fashion and designing. She passed away in 2014.. so her machine was laying home; no one was using it. After I was done doing the short course, I went and inherited the machine. Since then, it's the one have been using.I dediced to do this short course because my late father, who was then my main sponsor could not manage to give me money for school, so I decided to use that period for my fashion and designing program. So, one day, I didn't have a bag for carrying my domestic printer. So I decided to design a bag for it. Using the available material and I managed to make one, and it could fit well. When I got to Livingstone, my Elder brother was astonished as to how I managed to design that bag.From there, he began to say, you can make a lot of money if you can just work on these bags.

Question: How long have you been in the fashion industry?

Ans: I can say almost clocking two years now .. I fully started in 2020 December..

Question: What are you into? Is it bags,men's wear or others?

Ans: So from that time, I went into bag making. I have designed more bags than clothes. So my plan is to come up with a bag making company in future. Since many are into clothes, I want to venture into something different from them. So far I am starting to attend a short course for tailoring just to advance into male suit making.

Question: How do you see yourself in the nearest future?

Ans: I see myself owning my own brand for bags..

Question: Have you ever set out plans to come up with brands for school kids?

Ans: I haven't done so...It's really a good idea..Have taken Note.

Question: How do you balance your studies with your business?

Ans: It's not been easy, but I am making progress. Soon I am likely to switch from full time [studying] to block release [distance]; this will be quite easier.

Question: What would be your advise to someone embarking on the fashion and designing business?

Ansa: All I can say to such a one is that, It's not everything people will teach us. A vast ocean of knowledge is waiting for us to expand ourselves. Personally, bag making is something I taught myself. I use what I already know to do what I want. So what one needs is using whatever is available. Nothing good comes else and if it were so, everyone would have the good they want. Lastly, God gives ideas when you ask Him earnestly in prayer. He does inspire.
