DC Fan Art Comic

So, I am thinking about doing a comic of the old DC characters Iron Munro, Fury and Flying Fox -the replacement for the golden age trinity once the Crisis on Infinite Earth merged the multiverse on one New Earth.

This are some practice drawings of what I want to do, but my comic will be with less talk, because nowdays standards are different, but mostly will be like that.

...and my question is, will anyone will be up to read 3 comics of this age old forgotten DC heroes? I am doing to practice the 'western hero comic style', but it would be a shame that a story like that would be forgotten with nobody to read.

Please, let me now so I can start submitting things in places =D

If you follow this blog, you know I absolutely love everything Earth Two written by Roy Thomas at DC in the 1980s, from All-Star Squadron to Infinity Inc to Young All-Stars and beyond. So when this issue of Alter Ego magazine arrived in the mail yesterday, I was pumped and read it from cover-to-cover in one afternoon. Such fantastic stories about an amazing series that didn't survive very long. I particularly have always been taken with Thomas's theory about the Crisis erasing the big Golden Age heroes but not their energies. I thought replacing the DC trinity with brand new heroes and adding in a few other young guns was an ingenious solution. That's something I miss in today's comics; a commitment to continuity and the clever retcon to solve a continuity problem.

Dc x Dp Prompt #6

“I’m a twin”, Damian said one night. He could feel the narrowed eyes of his family drilling holes on his back in disbelief. Not that he could blame them. Damian had never so much as implied being raised with a companion, much less a sibling.

“I had a brother”. Damian paused to recollect himself. He had not said his brother’s name out loud in over 8 years.

“His name was… Danyal”. Damian hated the way his voice wavered, but he could not help it. Danyal was everything to him, his other half. Their heart beat as one and when one heart stopped beating, the other one died with it. At least until his family put his heart on metaphorical life support without ever realizing.

“Where is he now?” His father asked, voice filled with knowing grief and a hint of betrayal. It had in fact been 6 years since Damian first showed up on his doorstep.

“Up there”. All eyes shifted towards the specific star he was pointing to. “Right before he died, he promised me he’d guide me from the stars. Unfortunately, the stars are not visible in Gotham, so my brother is unable to be of much help unless I leave the city.”

“Your brother is Polaris, the North Star?” Tim questioned warily, most likely in attempts to not offend him. Damian was aware of how stupid it sounded, but Danyal had promised, and his brother never broke his promises.

“Yes. Danyal is with the stars now, just as he always wanted”

August 1988. This page is from YOUNG ALL-STARS Annual #1, but I'm pretty sure that it was originally drawn several years earlier for ALL-STAR SQUADRON, probably for the cover of issue #3 of that title. (ETA: I found that Roy Thomas subsequently confirmed this in the letters column of YOUNG ALL-STARS #19.) Kubert did the cover for #2, but issue #3 used this Rich Buckler/Dick Giordano cover:

Note that the characters depicted are the same, although most of them play no significant role in the Annual itself. I assume both Kubert and Buckler did cover designs for the earlier issue and the Buckler design was chosen as the more dynamic of the two, but the Kubert version had already been paid for, so Roy Thomas found an opportunity to use it later.

Per Degaton's chronology is very strange. He first appeared in 1947, in ALL-STAR COMICS #35, which involves his trying to take over the world by altering history. The JSA stopped his plan and returned him to his starting point with no memory of his previous actions, but he made several subsequent attempts, the second of which was in the first few issues of ALL-STAR SQUADRON, where he traveled back in time from 1947 to 1941. That ended more or less the same way, although the 1947 Degaton still had dreams of his past attempts to conquer the world.

In theory, that's what Degaton's narration boxes mean when he says, "Yet sometimes I get these inner flashes! I see myself and some huge, white-faced monstrosity, in combat with the All-Stars--somewhere, somehow! But I can't have fought them and forgotten it--can I?" However, the Degaton who appears in this Annual is not yet a time-traveler; this story is set in 1942, when Degaton is still just an assistant for the Time Trust. So, he's remembering something that happened earlier (ALL-STAR SQUADRON #3 takes place in December 1941), but that involved a future version of himself from five years in the future and a time-displaced version of Solomon Grundy. Grundy's first appearance was in ALL-AMERICAN COMICS #61, in 1944, so in 1942, neither Degaton nor the All-Stars actually knows who Grundy is because their only encounter with him had been in a time travel adventure whose details none of them (theoretically) actually remembered. A real brain-twister, that one.

Colorber day 20 - Fury

What's my favorite pastime you ask? Absorbing the plot of a show I've never watched via fanfiction osmosis. You think I've watched that show? Wrong bitch.

I read a convoluted fanfic, looking up characters as I went and then binge read half of AO3 and determined the plot based on what stayed consistent.

I will join every fandom and not ever interact with the source material and nobody can stop me

cassie sandsmark star jorts from issue #23 of yj98 you have always been famous to me

I made these jorts in 22 hours over the course of 3 days! pure willpower via my love for cassie sandsmark because I am a total novice in sewing and i am still not very good at it. (i really just combined various tutorials and improvised on measurements and then regretted improvising measurements later on).

I thrifted these jeans last year for cassie vibes (even though I had already made her star-spangled red bellbottoms at that point) and wasn't a fan of how they fit + I couldn't figure out how to style them. I enjoyed sewing in the panels to flare them out and then everything else (cargo pockets and sewing in stars) was hell <3

the pockets are not placed well (nor are they particularly well-made), the hem is uneven, the stars are quite janky (and I think I stitched on too many), I probably stabbed my fingers a million times, and I am so in love with them
