Do you think Sima Shi poisoned Xiahou Yui? Or is there another source(like with Lady Zhen) that gives another account
I do not, but I don’t blame anyone who does.
The only source on the matter (the Jinshu) says so quite plainly:
“Xiahou Hui knew that Sima Shi had an evil ambitions in his heart, and Sima Shi was distrustful of Xiahou Hui who was related to the Cao clan. As a result, she was poisoned by her husband at age 24.”
That’s pretty unambiguous. But I do question the reliability of this account, because there are a lot of things that just don’t seem to add up.
Xiahou Hui died in 234. This makes the claim that she was killed because she didn’t support the Sima family’s ambitions quite odd. Even if we accept the idea that Sima Yi was planning to take control of Wei, 234 is very premature. At that time, there was no reason for the Sima family to believe they’d have the opportunity to act on any such ambitions. Cao Rui was young, healthy, and an excellent ruler. There was no chance of an internal rebellion against him, nor was there any reason to believe he would soon die. It was only after Cao Rui’s unexpected illness and death in 239 - and the power vacuum that followed - that such ambitions would be viable. So it seems extremely strange that SIma Shi would express such ambitions to his wife, and retaliate against her, at a time when such ambitions were purely hypothetical.
It is also worth noting that while Sima Shi was unhappy with his second wife (Lady Wu, personal name unknown) he took no actions against her, simply divorcing her at an unspecified date. She also had close ties to the Cao family (her father was one of Cao Pi’s best friends) and evidently was not in the good graces of her husband’s family. And the Sima family was in a much different position during Sima Shi’s marriage to her, one where their ambitions were far more viable. The reasoning give for killing Xiahou Hui would be just as applicable to Lady Wu, but she was left unharmed.
The Sima family’s treatment of her brother Xiahou Xuan also makes me question the validity of the Jinshu account. Xiahou Xuan was one of Cao Shuang’s most prominent supporters. He was often compared to He Yan and was high enough in Cao Shuang’s confidences that he was given complete military authority over the west. The Sima family killed all of Cao Shuang’s other close supporters (and, indeed, Xiahou Ba expected that they would kill Xiahou Xuan, too). But not only was Xiahou Xuan unharmed, he was given a prestigious appointment in the capital instead. It seems unusual that the Sima would kill the sister yet spare the brother, given his ties to Cao Shuang’s now defunct regime. Doubly so that they would treat him with such generosity. Now, Xiahou Xuan did eventually turn on Sima Shi and was one of the ringleaders of the plot to assassinate him. If Sima Shi did kill his sister (or if Xiahou Xuan falsely believed that he did) that would go a long way towards explaining this shift. But there are also a myriad of other explanations and possibilities.
Another point worth mentioning is Xiahou Hui’s posthumous status. Whiel Sima Yan made Sima Shi a posthumous emperor (Emperor Jing), he did not initially grant this status to Xiahou Hui. But Sima Shi’s third wife, Yang Huiyu, repeatedly insisted upon granting her predecessor the honor, and Sima Yan eventually gave in. It seems quite unusual that Sima Shi’s widow would make such an effort to ensure the posthumous honors of a woman her husband murdered.
I think it’s far more likely that Xiahou Hui simply died of natural causes, tragically young, and that a false story about her death entered into the historical records of the time.
None of this is conclusive, of course. There are potential explanations for everything. It’s possible that the Jinshu account is correct. But I think these circumstances are enough to cast doubt on the matter.

Happy first Sunday of 2019!!! Didn't manage to go church today because of HuiYu final lesson but somehow did an hour portrait painting and a vision of #jesuschrist , using a different process to paint via glazing and ended up with this artwork after an hour of doodling. We tackled an hour and a half of #acrylicpainting with a waterfall theme and the best part is, it's from our visual library and fresh memory instead of using a reference. This way we train the young minds to focus and to absorb , to cultivate a photographic memory which will be a superb help to artists no matter their age. Another artwork will be released soon on my feed, this time much more sinister and is the antitheses of godly things. 🐵🤠😬 #dreadjim#artprocess #bibleart #godbless #god #jesusart #digitart (at Asia/Singapore) https://www.instagram.com/p/BsSmaT-leC8/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=12ojh1jeiaeop
