Time for the long overdue part 2 Best ways to help prevent your scalp is by wearing hats or scarfs, limiting exposure and/or using scalp sunscreen. My favorite and go to scalp sunscreen is the @coola Scalp & Hair Mist Organic Sunscreen SPF 30. It is super lightweight, nourishing, protecting, and vegan. I spray it on the scalp and hair and and brush my hair to ensure it is evenly distributed. Before styling (which lately mean pulling it up in a bun) I allow it to dry for a bit. Day 251 of 365 September has been quite a month … 😖😖. Life has been topsy turvy and it will be a while before things settle down. On the flip side I’m a few weeks away from another education milestone. (will share more another time). In the meantime let me ask you this do you use hair and scalp sunscreen? I’m sure most said no or most said during beach vacays only. Up until a few years ago I did not use scalp and hair sunscreen, then started using it on beach vacays only. I think that was because I never found one I liked for daily use. We do a lot to protect our skin but forget the scalp. Hair or no hair your scalp can be damaged by UV rays and get sun burned as well. That damage can put you at risk for melanoma and it can negatively effect on the hair follicles. Day 94 of 365 Let’s talk about underrated tool today. For the record I hate sticking my fingers in jar to scoop out skincare products. It can lead to transfer of bacteria or cross contamination. I prefer pumps, squeezy tubes or even droppers to jars. So I bring to mini spatulas. If a product comes in a jar I love when brands include spatula it’s totally a win win. But if not I use reusable spatulas. I have a couple of options I save the spatulas that come with some products the product is finished, I have the I Dew Care The Scoop Metal Spatula from @urbanoutfitters and finally have a Ohii Beauty Scoops (pack of 25) also from @urbanoutfitters . You can also get them on @amazon They are super affordable and after using I just collect them in a small container. At the end of the week or when I am washing my makeup brushes or when I am low on clean spatula I wash and reuse. It just that simple and keeps the product kosher. I have heard so much about products from the this brand and finally got a chance to try it out. I am taking about @obagimedical . They have been in the skincare game since 1988 and there products. Their products help in fighting premature skin aging, hyperpigmentation, acne, skin and sub damage. My initiation to @obagimedical was the Foaming Cleaner by Susan Obagi M.D. It’s noted to be good for all skin types (I have combination skin). It can be used for both AM/PM skin. I used 2 pumps as directed and gently massaged it on my skin and neck, rinsing it off with warm water. It cleansed my skin well without leaving it feeling dry for no makeup days. When I used it with makeup on my skin it didn’t take off all my makeup which was disappointing. It was not heavy makeup day either and I had to wash it again. I tried it again as a step 2 in a double cleanse and it worked just fine. I am waiting to see how it does in the winter months when my skin is a bit on the drier side. I have used other cleansers that cleanse really well …..whether it is drug store or similar price points. So, I am not sure about this one. You can try for yourself. Day 264 of 365 Happy First day of Fall… as soon as fall come around everyone starts to think fall cold crisp air. BUT… over the next few posts I want to talk about some products I used over this summer that I plan to continue using into the colder months. They are pretty much for year round use. Sunscreen is something that should be worn year round rain or sunshine. It should even be worn when you are indoors, but I always find reapplying a pain especially when I have makeup on. So I decided to give SPF sprays a chance but I wanted a product that worked double duty. Enter stage right @naked_sundays Hydrating Glow Mist. It is a hyaluronic acid + kakadu plum + Watermelon Extract + SPF 50+ mist. It protects, hydrated and adds radiance to the skin and It allows for east spray on reapplication of sunscreen. OMG I love this mist. I spray all over my face (avoiding eyes), neck and décolletage and give it 5-10 seconds to dry and I am good to go. It does not disturb my makeup, absorbs well without leaving my skin feeling greasy. I even love using it when I don’t have makeup on but need to reapply sunscreen and refresh my skin. Day 261 of 365 It’s been a crazy few weeks and finally got a little breather today…actually slept in, folded laundry that has been haunting 👻 me for a while worked on a few blog posts and Netflixed. Speaking of blogging Have you of a small brand called @diorbeauty 😂…. I’m am positive you have. As my quest continued to find a good eye team I chanced upon @dior Prestige Le Micro-Serum De Rose Yeux and I must say wow 🤩 . It’s made of Rose fruit and other yummy goodness and It comes with a built in applicator made of ceramic micro beads. It combats puffiness, smooths, hydrates and brightens and I must say it does. I feel a difference in the area around my eyes. To use I squeeze a little serum onto the applicator and gently apply it by gliding from corner to corner and around the eye area. It helps with massaging the area which really helps me depuff (an issue I deal with). In the summer the applicator is also very cooling. Now comes the bad part it is a luxe product with a luxe price tag. With that said it lasts a while and seeing results makes me want to add it to my favs. I need to restock but hopefully will find a good sale to do so. Day 247 of 365 @kimkardashian is not a new name. She launched her skincare brand @skkn in 2022 which is a 9 product collection. Out of those 9 products, the first product I tried was the face cream. When you first receive it you will notice the simple sustainable packaging. Some of the items are even refillable. Now let’s talk about the face cream. This cream has an ingredients list that includes Alfalfa complex, postbiotics, shea butter and squalane. It’s good for both the AM and PM skincare routines. It feels decadent but absorbs well into the skin without leaving sticky heavy feels. It leaves the skin feeling hydrated, plump and glowing. It’s a good everyday moisturizer but I only tested it in the summer. I would need to test it again in winter when the air is drier to see if it yields similar results. Day 233 of 365 My love for today’s brand is well known. I have family members and friends who I was able to influence among others to use the products and now they love them. I am talking about @Skinglass. It is a WOC owned small business. My love started with the highlighting oil and continues with their newest offering the Skinglass Serum Active Repair Night Serum (ok so not new new but newer 😂). Amongst its ingredients are CoQ10, Squalane, and Camellia . It helps balance, brighten, hydrate, and repair the skin as you sleep and I since I have started using it my skin just feel so good hydrated and plump. I apply it to clean damp skin following it up with eye cream and moisturizer. Most days this is the only serum in my PM routine but some days I pair it with another serum. I press it onto my face, neck and décolleté and gently massage it using my hands or @myskinbuddy. It is lightweight and absorbs well into the skin. Day 230 of 365 It’s been a while since I have used anything @lancomeofficial , but that changed this year with their Rénergie H.C.F. Triple Serum. The H.C.F stands for Hyaluronic Acid, C+Niacinamide and Ferulic Acid. It is supposed to help counter dark spots and signs of aging. The Hyaluronic Acid helps plump, hydrate, and smooth skin. The C+Niacinamide helps reduce dark spots, brighten and smooths. Finally Ferulic acid is an antioxidant and helps in protecting the skin. It can be used both in the AM and PM. Pump twice , mix in you hand and press into the skin, neck and décolletage. I used this time to massage my face either with my hands or jade roller for a minute or 2 (maybe more if I have time) before finishing the remainder of my routine. Boy does this serum pack a punch. Immediately my skin felt hydrated and brighter. Over a few weeks my skin continued to feel hydrated, plump, radiant and looked and felt smoother. Just one con it is a bit pricey (I purchased it during the @sephora sale). This one is definitely being added to the list of favorites. Day 219 of 365 Back after a short break and reset. Feeling rested and rejuvenated. Slowly getting back to a routine which includes tons of laundry that needs to be folded and put way 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️. A closet that needs some TLC, products that need to be photographed, reels that need to be made and the list goes on. But for now just chilling and enjoying some quiet time and @fableandmane which has made an appearance on the grid before. Their Holiroots oil is one of my favs. The Amla Soothing Serum is just 😘. Let’s add one more offering from them on the favs list, the HoliRoots Hydrating Hair Oil Mist. The key ingredients include hibiscus and Amla. Red hibiscus helps in restoring the hairs lost luster and shine. Amla (Indian Gooseberry) has Vitamin C and helps hair health. It’s an ingredient that has been used in Indian hair products for longer than I have been on this earth. To use shake well so the water and oil are activated and mist over dry hair and comb or brush through. The mist is really fine so does not leave the hair feeling drenched. Day 206 of 365 On different occasions I have tried @biossance products and really like them so I was excited to try the Biossance Squalane + Copper Peptide Rapid Plumping Serum. It a clean product and with ingredients like copper peptides, rapid plumping complex, and paracress extract it’s supposed to help hydrate, firm, fight signs of aging, and fight dullness. It can be used on face and next both in the AM and PM. It was hydrating but that was it for me there was no wow factor about this serum. Cooper peptides have gained traction in recent years and some say it is better than using Vitamin C. Disclaimer with benefits it also comes with side effects. You have to be careful about the product you use when using copper peptides as it can be bad for your skin. Day 201 of 365 I have written about @beautycounter products several times. One of their newer offerings is the Reflect Effect AHA Smoothing Facial Mask. Story time … A little while ago my skin was feeling very blah and I was hearing good things about the new mask by beauty counter. With so much life happening there was not much time for facials and pampering. So it was time for a little quick #selfcare at home. So I have this new mask a try. This masks contain AHAs, physic acid and bamboo particles which helps in exfoliating, resurfacing and brightening the skin. Just 10 minutes for the magic to work. Using a brush, I applied it to clean and damp face for 10 minutes. I then splashed a bit of water and started gently massaging my face in circular motions before completely rinsing it off. My face felt clean, super soft, brighter, radiant and refreshed. This was just what my tired skin needed. It can be used twice a week but I used it only once as I felt that was enough for my skin. Day 196 of 365 So let’s talk about the @clarinsofficial Double Serum Eye. When I used the face serum a while back I absolutely loved it so when Clarins came out with a double serum eye I was super excited to try it. It is as the name says 2 serums in one product when mixed together are supposed to help fight aging, hydrate, smooth, firm the eye area. Use: turn the dial and pump both serums onto finger. Mix and warm up them together and first I press it into the skin around the eye and then in gentle circular motion. Pros: it is super lightweight, hydrating, smoothing and brightening. Cons: too much serum pumps out, it’s just too much product and it’s just wasteful and one reason for not using it again. I hope they can fix. You can be the judge. Day 191 of 365 With more out and about, in many cases back to work in the office and allergies, not doing much when it comes to eye makeup but concealer is becoming my best friends. One of the favs I have been using for. Few months and loving is the @kvdbeauty Good Apple Full Coverage Concealer, my shade is Tan 162. I have already professed my love for the foundation and adding concealer to the love list. It is a creamy consistency and is lightweight concealer and a little goes a long way. I apply a little close to the inner corner of the eye and the outer corner for a lift and blend or use it to spot conceal. It goes on like butter ❤️❤️. I set it with a powder and I am good to go. It does not crease, look cakey, or dry out the under eye area. If my under eye area is feeling dry I use a hydrating eye cream and wait for a few minutes before applying concealer and do not over powder or bake (this works for me). Check it out for yourself.
