Story of the Seasons (Fall)
iressent submitted the following post (my response below):
One day, as they settled down to an outdoor feast on a balmy evening, the wizard felt a sudden chill. He noticed a delicate young woman standing under an apple tree. He watched with bemusement as Winter, Spring, and Summer ran toward her, joining hands and dancing around the tree. Her features were similar to those of her sisters, but she was wearing orange.
The wizard stayed by the table until the women beckoned him to join them. Before he could ask, the new arrival introduced herself.
"My name is Fall. I am resting on a long journey. Who are you?“
"Me?” the wizard asked. “I am but an old hermit-”
"Hermits do not invite people into their home or share their food,“ Fall pointed out. “Hermits don’t celebrate all summer long.”
"That is a fair point. However, I have lived in these woods alone for a long time, with no one to love and nothing to my name. Your sisters have brought me new life.“
Fall opened her arms wide. "But sir, do you not see? You have so much already.”
As the four maidens and the wizard enjoyed a meal together, he realized that Fall was right.
So, I’m going to stop the story there. I know I didn’t write down the whole story this time, but I got the Fall part down since it relates to Cinder. So, I’m gonna say my piece.
but she was wearing orange
Cinder’s consistent color so far in all her outfits is orange/gold/red, so I’m hoping that’s her true colors in her “herself” outfit, when she’s redeemed if you understand. It has her own colors, one of which is also the Fall Maiden’s color.
Before he could ask, the new arrival introduced herself.
Kinda like how she introduced herself at the Fall of Beacon where Amber was.
“Me?” the wizard asked. “I am but an old hermit-”
Obviously, this is referencing Ozma being a wizard but pretending to be someone else, such as a headmaster of Beacon or a guy with a really refined mustache in another reincarnation lol
Fall opened her arms wide. “But sir, do you not see? You have so much already.”
Now, this is something Cinder will learn eventually. When, is a completely different matter. It would work during any time, the beginning, middle, or end of her redemption arc. It could either pop off her redemption arc, or her getting mentally better during her redemption arc, or solidifying her redemption with this realization.
In Ozpin’s final notes of the morals of the Story of the Seasons, he said for Fall,
And finally, be thankful for what you have and show your gratitude.
I’m going to say a little on the second part, “and show your gratitude” basically confirms that Cinder’ll be showing her gratitude by helping them.
That’s about it for the Fall Maiden in the Story of the Seasons. What are your thoughts on it?
______________________________________________________
Oh yeah, I have a LOT of thoughts on it. Thank you for sending me an ask/submission about it!!
I agree with everything you’ve written, especially the structure of greeting and the dismissal of being ‘just an old hermit’. There is one point you picked up on I’d like to expand a little, which is Cinder’s ‘true colour’. It kind of goes without saying colour is a big deal in RWBY cuz like, the colour of your soul, alchemical stages, all of that. Cinder’s Aura is orange and obviously the Fall Maiden is too in this story, but I think her secondary colour is blue (and possibly purple) for the following reasons: it’s complementary to orange, as well as yellow (depending on the model you use); it’s on her pin, which has migrated closer and closer to her heart (the significance of it yet is unclear, though chronologically she got it sometime between fifteen and when we first see her in V1); and, um, you’ll closely notice this tinfoilling relies upon Jaune’s similarly bizarre colour scheme (I guess he does have that rainbow thing goes on with his emblem, and his flower imagery is the crocus, which is from the Iris family, Iris means rainbow in Greek and was also the personified goddess of the rainbow) which is like blue but also orange but also YELLOW and then white and gold and also tin at one point and black, just like Cinder is red orange yellow gold black maybe blue purple? and then also as a girl she was black red yellow white, which is all of team RWBY’s colours and the alchemical stages the show follows. So like. Go figure. Cinder’s colours make sense to me in relation to Jaune, but putting aside Knightfall, I would still write up orange and blue. Also, orange and blue is a type of shorthand for a morality beyond black and white, with complex sides to each issue.
I should honestly just separately write an expanded post on this, but like, yes I think this story makes it clear Cinder’s colour is orange which she’s fastidiously denied, and that’s a major part of her character. I think when she embraces being the Fall Maiden as guardian it will be clear what her colour is, anyway.
Also I’m just gonna quote Lyndy Abraham’s Dictionary of Alchemy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so yeah in my elementary understanding of alchemy, Cinder is a big deal. and also, Jaune’s control of the mercurial waters of Aura (see that Aura & water post I wrote lol) and fire.. hmm! I’m not sure if this helps us with the colour problem, I think it explains her all black outfit in V6-8 though - this isn’t actually her having completely spurned redemption (like some people say) but her most challenging and important hour (which is why Emerald finally left her and Salem, and though Mercury has 'committed himself’ more, he’s with Tyrian, the stand-in abusive parental figure).
I also think it’s interesting that Salem is in 'control’ of the fire which will help perfect the world, who is also the carrier of the generational wound (Salem/Ozma) and one who also helped inflict subsequent wounds.
On the note of redemption arc: well, I know redemption arc is accepted nomenclature, and so I go with that, but I think a redemption arc is a type of character metamorphosis, and for her to basically give up hunting the Maidens (for Salem or for herself) I think she does have to come to this realisation. I also think Cinder is probably going to be the character that pulls the 'fully realised Maiden’ moment like we saw a little bit of with Fria, and it will be totally epic and I’ll drop trou immediately. So yeah. I think it all kind of goes hand in hand (and also similarly to Ruby, what’s really stopping Cinder is spiritual growth as opposed to victory in strength (LOL, how about that SALEM).
But I can’t say what the show is going to do or how long it’ll take them to get there. I think there are certain things which need to happen (Mercury saved, for instance) in a certain order, but your guess is as good as mine for when they save Cinder in earnest beginning to work with the rest of them. Since Fall is the last Maiden to arrive, I think it will be late in the game, but we’re already seeing the parts put in place for Cinder’s turncoat. And honestly, I have a feeling a lot of redemption arc 'tropes’ are going to be played with her and she’s probably going to spurn it a few times.
RWBY hasn’t played out so many types of 'redemption arcs’ already to not save their all for Cinder (their villain protagonist), which may, presumably, set up some type of compassionate confrontation with Salem.
That’s why I can see Raven coming through soon to help, because I think hers will come before Cinder’s (and Raven has kind of 'mothered’ Cinder before, I think her example will in part structurally inspire Cinder’s).
That also fits the Maiden cycle, and also, Spring’s lesson also fits Raven, which misstrashchan has already written about. So, there is absolutely good reason to speculate this way.
Also, on the gratitude point: I think that will be a choice Cinder does entirely of her own volition,
Thanks again for your post!! So much fun to reply to.

Lair Review for nevvermore #132590
Buckle up, folks, because this review is a doozy! Over 30 dragons, and ALL OF MY LOVE. As is par for the course when we’re talking reviews. ♥
Tumblr media
I absolutely had to start with Morrigan, partly because I wrote her lore for you, and partly because I’m such a sucker for that gold/brown aesthetic. Back in 2017, I was this close to moving to Earth instead of Light, if that tells you anything about my aesthetic preferences. But I also really love that little pop of Shadow around her head! It ties in well to her heritage, and sticks out very neatly!
Plus, she’s ambitious as hell and I adore her for that. ♥
Tumblr media
Blue-green and brown is another outstanding combo, and Silail wears it so very, very well! I don’t know anything else about her beyond the implications in Morrigan’s lore (yes, I did notice they’re sisters!), but I’m in love with her anyhow. She just has this very fluid grace to her, and I also think you picked a perfect skin. Plus, Imperials can be super hard to dress, but you’ve pulled it off so well here! Great work on this gal!
Tumblr media
Akatsuki is a perfect example of a subtle accent taking a dragon to the next level. Without that Trick of the Light skin, I think his mane would look way too flat, making him a lot more dull over all. This skin, though, adds some brightness and depth in a way that works really well! Plus, I love that he looks like a Fire dragon or Fire-adjacent at first glance, but he’s actually got Ice eyes!
Tumblr media
First of all, I love this skin so much. I’ve got it slapped on one of my own Water dragons, and I just adore the way it works. More importantly, though, I’m impressed with how you dealt with Neptune’s tert! Normally, I wouldn’t love Thicket paired with Blue and Teal, but the lantern apparel actually does a huge amount of legwork here. It makes it seem like the green of her tert is actually a result of the lantern’s light, a little bit of ambiance on your deep sea friend. Great work dressing her!
Tumblr media
What can I say about Felix except that he looks SO HUGGABLE? Seriously, I just wanna give him a big hug. That skin is absolutely adorable, and it’s making me like a male snapper, which I find hard to do a lot of the time. The big boy beans are typically not my favorite. But this boy? Best boy.
Tumblr media
I feel like a big chunk of this review is going to be me commenting on your A+ skin and accent usage. Sparkplug is deceptively simple without much apparel, but I really, really like the accent, and the implications it has for a dragon that (I presume) is part of your flight reps. Did she build it herself? What happened that she needed prosthetics? Or is it armor? I’d love to know more!
Also, Lightning unusual eyes are SUCH a pretty shade of blue.
Tumblr media
Again, you’ve got another blue dragon here with a green range tert, but I think I’m fixing on the accent. It’s so cute, all those little shells stuck to Terpsichore, and it makes me wonder if they’re decoration, or if she’s just that lovable to shellfish and can’t bring herself to peel them off.
Unlike Neptune, who you’ve dressed super well and pulled off an odd tert for, I don’t think I care much for Pistachio paired with Periwinkle and Twilight. That said, I love that you managed to make a purple range secondary look blue for cohesiveness!
Tumblr media
Turns out Artim is NOT wearing Windbound Plumage, like I thought when I first saw him in your lair. That skin is a solid mimic, though, and I really like it. Plus, it adds a lot of depth and color where Artim would otherwise be a little bit flat and boring, so once again, props for your skin usage! I especially like the way it makes it seem like Artim is growing out of the foliage, rather than the foliage growing off of Artim, if that makes sense. He seems very woodsy and very comfortable.
Tumblr media
Sometimes I forget how stinking cute M Faes can be, but Xenon just reminded me PERFECTLY. He’s so swirly and soft and adorable, and I wanna put him in my pocket and take him everywhere! White and Sky make for a classic combo, and that accent makes it look like he’s wayyyyyy up there in the atmosphere, just cruising along.
Also, the little hints of pink in his wings thanks to Facet add just a touch of extra color and depth. He’s perfect!
Tumblr media
Chaorite is wearing a Ravenhearst skin. That alone means she’s looking absolutely beautiful as hell. That is all. ♥
Tumblr media
I’ll admit I didn’t care for this accent during last year’s Trickmurk, but you’ve made it look great on Ashrah! I can’t decide whether those little fellas are her minions or if they’re pestering her, but I like the way they look on her nonetheless. It’s a shame that purple in the accent isn’t a touch more pink to complement the rosy tones in her primary and tert, but that’s not exactly something you can control.
Tumblr media
Triple Terracotta, especially with PyMorph, is truly *chef’s kiss* and I LOVE HER. Can’t say much else about her, since she doesn’t appear to have lore or apparel or anything, but I love her nonetheless. She’s just prettier than hell.
Tumblr media
Brigit is wearing one of my all time favorite festival skins, AND she’s rocking another classic color combo. She’s also worth a mention for her unusual familiar. I’ve noticed you’re normally pretty good at familiar matching, but the Deepwater Traveler you’ve put on her doesn’t match at all. Is there a lore reason for that, or are you just awakening your familiar ASAP?
Tumblr media
Ooooh, a primal fella! He’s...so bright you can’t avoid looking at him. Honestly, he actually reminds me a little of a paper kite with that skin, like a kite that gained sentience and flew off on its own (but also just wandered because what’s a kite to do when the wind says “NOPE NOT THAT WAY, THIS WAY”?)
Tumblr media
Pretzel is an ABSURDLY cute name for a dragon whose species is known for literally tying themselves in knots out of boredom. And yet again, your skin usage is a blast! Love the blue tones this adds to Pretzel, but it also works awesome with her existing orange colors. She’s very Halloweeny.
Tumblr media
See, this is the power of a good skin or accent. I rarely like triples because they can be kind of boring, even with cool genes. But you’ve taken Phobus to the next level with a complementary accent, and I ADORE IT. The tiny horns it gives him are so cute, and I’m a sucker for florals when it comes down to it. Plus, those little butterflies on the wings are extra cute! He’s just soft and sweet all around.
Tumblr media
A Ravenhearst skin strikes again! I’m not sure how I feel about black and brown together (Sand seems like a shade too brown, where something lighter and a hair closer to the yellows might be nicer with this skin), but at the end of the day, she’s still a lovely, pretty gal. Plus, all the eyes on the skin are like multigaze but more eldritch horror than site-approved cuteness. There could be a lore goldmine there.
Tumblr media
Ahi is SO GOOD. An XYY Bane with complementary colors is no small feat, and I really like how fiery he looks despite being an Ice dragon. Have you considered Skink for him, though? That also has orange accents!
Tumblr media
I’ll confess that I’m writing this lair review BEFORE writing your lore, but I couldn’t help but pick Varrick. He looks every inch a bard, and I really like that you’ve given him a Shabby Cane! Since it blends in with his wing, at first glance, it almost looks like it could be a bow. That works doubly well with his familiar being a Ghosthost Viola!
Tumblr media
Lethe is giving me UNREAL steampunk ghost vibes. Between the apparel and her tert, she strikes me as a Victorian waif with steampunk enhancements come back to haunt whoever tried to make her more automaton than flesh and blood. And do you have lore plans for her? Is Lethe an intentional name? Can she make dragons forget things? I’d love to know more about her!
Tumblr media
Cinder absolutely screams “oh no, sir, it’s such a tragedy my third husband died just like the other two and left me his entire fortune, so terrible, so awful” and it’s making me laugh a little! Not that she’s inherently funny-looking so much as the idea of a murderous widow dragon entertains me A LOT. What are your crimes, Lady Cinder? WHY DID YOU KILL YOUR HUSBANDS...
Tumblr media
You have SO MANY PERMABABIES and of all of them, I think I like Banshee the most. But that’s probably because red is my favorite color, and I think baby pearls are honestly such cuties, even if they do have to spend all that time adding to their pearls in...such a gross way. Ew.
Tumblr media
Green/brown/yellow range dragons are one of the most powerful forces on this site, and Swamp alone is a color with outstanding power. I said what I said, and I’ll stand by it. It makes Medeni a stellar dragon without any lore or apparel.
Tumblr media
I remember when Stained first came out, and I brushed it off as a terrible gene to charge gems for. It was a ripoff, slapping a color overlay on a dragon!
How wrong I was.
Coriolis is a perfect example of how Stained can be used to soften a dragon and given them a lovely, lighter air, and it pairs so well with that accent! She makes me think of that stretch between summer and fall where the colors on the trees are beginning to change, but it’s still warm enough to wear shorts as long as the sun’s out. ♥
Tumblr media
Another triple rescued from a dull life by a good skin! Obviously, the point of this skin is to evoke a prisoner in the Fortress of Ends, but what could Raiju have been imprisoned for? What warrants all the chains and ice? Is it a fair punishment?
Tumblr media
It feels a tiny bit like cheating to pick another dragon I’ve already written for, but I really do adore branch! All the red accents add some cheer to her, and they make her stand out a little more. I think she’d be maybe a little too green otherwise, but you’ve dressed her perfectly! It also makes her seem approachable and warm, which is great for a healer.
Tumblr media
I’m genuinely impressed that you have this little Goat Spiral army, and CiumaObake is my favorite of them all in terms of color. Do you just love baby Spirals with Goat eyes, or is there a lore reason behind this tiny baby army?
More importantly, is this lair tab just the FR version of corralling a pet or a toddler while yelling “WHAT IS IN YOUR MOUTH”?
Tumblr media
I wasn’t part of FR when this skin came out and I am JEALOUS because it looks so nice on Mist! It’s extra frosty and pretty, with that tiny nosy hint on the rose and wings that makes me think she’s looking at a sunrise. She seems very warm and approachable despite the classic Ice aesthetic, and I think she’s outstanding without a drop of apparel.
Plus, you’ve done wonders with yet another triple!
Tumblr media
Vedette is getting a mention for that skin alone. It’s so odd-looking in the best way, and I would love to see if you have lore reasons for his appearance! Is he a mutated Gaoler, or is he another creature entirely?
Tumblr media
Between that skin and her Speedy familiar, Lusa is really rocking that threateningly pale witch aesthetic. I’m not sure I’d like to meet her in a dark alley. Or even a well-lit alley, to be honest. She’s vaguely menacing in a great way!
Tumblr media
I see you, Bill Cipher. I see you.
Tumblr media
And last but not least, Mr. Unnamed, living in your projects tab. He’s got some GREAT colors, and I can’t help but see the potential in him! Using Veined with that Sunset tert could really give him a magmatic sort of appearance. I’d love to see what your ultimate plans for him are!

So, you've treated yourself to your dream pair of statement shoes. Now, you're faced with a dilemma: how to make them work with what you already own . If you've ever wondered what shoe color goes with what sort of outfit, we're here to offer some ideas to help get you started. Since you'll be building an outfit around your shoes , you want to make sure you're putting your best foot forward, so to speak. At the end of the day, there are no hard and fast rules that you must abide by. Style is personal, and wearing what makes you happy is priority one . In case you're stumped on where to start, though, we've rounded up a few colors that really lend themselves to being paired together. So, if you're ready to break out those blue suede shoes, we've got some ideas to help you figure out the rest of your ensemble. Check them out below and shop a few of our favorite statement shoes worth showing off along the way. Goes best with pink, orange, black and white, neutrals, and navy blue. Pro tip: Red shoes are a great way to add a punch to a more casual outfit, but consider avoiding an outfit that feels too racy; fire-engine footwear offers enough sizzle factor on its own. Stay away from monochrome too; red on red can feel like overkill. Goes best with blue, white, earth tones, red, and yellow. Pro tip: Orange shoes look great with tawny neutrals, tans, and beiges—they provide a warm canvas from which the orange can really pop. If you’re wearing lighter shades, mix in some brown accessories for a cool ’70s  vibe. While color-blocking may feel like overkill for some, if you’re up to the challenge, try power-clashing by styling them with green or purple. Goes best with any shade of blue, black and white, and green. Pro tip: Although purple and yellow are complementary colors, the two together can be a bold move (shoutout to the L.A. Lakers). More buttery tones look great with other warm colors such as red or orange. For neon yellow, consider cooler colors or a simple black or white. Goes best with brown, black, blue, neutrals, and yellow. Pro tip: Green shoes are surprisingly versatile. Just try to keep red and orange out of the equation, unless you’re invested in making a high-saturated statement. Goes best with yellow, red, neutrals, brown, and white. Pro tip: Skinny jeans with a pair of blue shoes a shade lighter or darker than the denim is a no-fail look. (This time of year, finish it off with a fisherman’s sweater in ivory or beige.) It’s also worth noting that navy is like black’s punchier cousin; it adds a bit of color but at minimum risk. Goes best with neutrals, navy, pink, and green. Pro tip: For a surprisingly chic combination, look to purple and metallics. Try a pair of plum-colored pumps with a silver skirt and blue jacket. Since purple is a rich hue, it also pairs well with simple neutrals. Goes best with white, red, purple, neutrals, indigo, and black (for silver). Black, red, white, emerald, royal blue, and burgundy go best with gold. Pro tip: Whether you opt for silver or gold shoes, it’s best to stay away from bold prints and colors for the rest of your outfit and let the footwear, ahem, shine. Rock Your Home Style with these 2018 Home Design Trends
New Post has been published on https://www.treasuredspacesinc.com/home-design-trends/
Rock Your Home Style with these 2018 Home Design Trends
2017 was a boundary-pushing year for interiors, with home decor trends including the likes of exposed lighting, subway tiles and open floor plans. This year seems to be another exciting year, with plenty of new interior and exterior trends that are revolutionizing the industry. Rich color schemes, floral patterns and natural decor with a 70s-era twist are dominating the list in 2018 – and you don’t want to miss out on the latest styles! If you’re ready to find out about all the new patterns, color schemes and layouts you should be paying attention to, inside and outside your home, Treasured Spaces has put together this comprehensive list that details all of them. So what does the year ahead hold in the trend stakes? Here are home decor trends to watch for in 2018.
Rich Color Schemes
In 2018, many designers are opting for bold, rich color schemes rather than scaled-back, neutral ones. With vivid yellows, dramatic reds and statement-making pinks, paired with more muted furnishings and decor, you can make a grander impression in your home. This year, don’t be afraid to be brave with your color choices, whether it be on walls and furniture pieces.
Vivid Yellows
While some may see yellow color palettes as too overwhelming, 2018 is the year to be bold. Yellow is a color that exudes happiness, confidence and cheer. Whether used on walls, in accents pieces or furnishings, vivid yellow color schemes are sure to make your home feel happy this year.
Dramatic Reds
While the overall trend throughout the past couple years has leaned towards cooler colors like greens, blues and purples, 2018 is the year of warmer tones. Dramatic reds offer a fantastic way for you to add eye-catching contrast while providing the warmth that makes your home more inviting.
Statement-Making Pinks
While already a huge trend in 2017, pink color schemes will continue to stay in style for 2018. This bright hue has made its way into home decor, but this year, be ready to incorporate it in larger and more creative ways as a simple way to make a statement in any room.
Neutral Decor
With rich color schemes topping the list, black and white furnishings offer a complementary, timeless style that you should work into your home decor in 2018. The visual contrast of black and white give your overall layout a sense of balance and boldness.
Floral Patterns
Floral patterns tend to come in and out of style – and in 2018, they’re back in with a twist. Home stylists should expect to find exaggerated proportions and contrasting colors used for this timeless decor pattern. We’ll see even more interpretations of over-scaled floral patterns, in high-contrast colors, in the new year.
1970s Redux
With many timeless styles finding their way back into homes this year, expect to see a few nods to the 1970s. With warm color schemes, far-out textures and abstract silhouettes. Working this design trend into your overall layout will give incredible personality to any room in your house.
Geometric Patterns
Much like the floral patterns, geometric patterns aren’t a new development in home design trends. However, in 2018, expect to see a splash of geometric patterns throughout high-style homes. Bold, colorful and oversized patterns on furniture, wallpaper and even throw blankets will help you make a dramatic statement throughout your home.
Artisan Fixtures
Expect to see grand decor with a local twist this year, as decorators opt for artisan fixtures over ones that are mass-produced. These add a unique, personalized touch to the layout of your home and helps provide a more organic feel. Artisan texture is also making waves in the home decor world this year. Furniture with natural handmade qualities, made from materials such a rattan and wicker will be a stylish choice this year. Textiles take a playful role with lots of embellishments, raw edges and natural form – all beautiful to look at.
Natural Elements
In a similar vein, natural elements are taking over the tech-focused styles of last year, helping push 2018 home design trends into more natural-feeling territory. Incorporating elements such as granite, marble, concrete, stone and copper into your home style will enhance any space with a more welcoming, calming and serene atmosphere.
Agate Wallpaper
While the use of wallpaper in home decor has always been controversial, it appears it will come into its own in 2018. Since bold, natural styles are topping the trends list this year, agate wallpaper fits in great with that theme. With its unique coloring, stark contrast, and natural lines and colors, agate wallpaper brings together those trends that are so in style right now.
Copper Accents
While rose gold was the primary color choice of 2017, this year we’re expecting to see less of it and more of copper-hued accents, combined with other metal types. Because of its vivid yellow, orange and red tones, copper will be a fresh addition to any layout that needs a pop.
Brass Accents
In 2018, say goodbye to stainless steel and polished nickel, and say hello to brass accents. Along with copper, using brass throughout your home is a great way to add a dash of warmth, while providing you with a subtle alternative to the expected steel accents.
Concrete Accents
Along with copper and brass accents, expect to see concrete accents popping up throughout stylish homes around the country as well. As a striking, almost imposing material, concrete provides the boldness that will help make a statement. Geometric concrete tiles are also rising in use, and allow you to combine two of the year’s trendiest designs into one stylish piece.
Dark, Glamorous Wood
Furniture is on a path towards richer, darker and more glamorous shades this year, moving away from the pale bleached wood of recent years. With a hint of retro and a heavy dose of luxury, dark wooden furniture is taking over. To add a finishing touch, metallic legs and handles are great for giving it some extra glam. Fuse in other materials, like gold, brass or marble to give a more sophisticated feel.
Velvet Decor
While some may think of velvet as an old-school material, today, it’s considered a luxurious and creative way to add funky style into your home decor. This versatile fabric has already started gaining a lot of attention among home style bloggers, leading many predicting that velvet decor will be one of 2018’s most sought-after trends.
Vintage Light Fixtures
A trend that many will be shocked to see making its way back into the new year. The vintage lights we are expecting to see will be less exposed lighting and more vintage pendants and sconces, in brass and copper finishes. 2018 will be a year where trending designs come together in unison.
Colorful Kitchens
While white is always a classic choice, 2018 is seeing a resurgence in colorful kitchen designs, rather than boring hues of the past. Injecting rich colours, such as warm copper tones and neutrals into the space to give it a warm, welcoming and unique feel.
Bucket Sinks
Deep, wide and durable bucket sinks are all the rage this year. Known also as trough sinks, these types of sinks are a farmhouse inspired decor choice that will add personality and a touch of nostalgia to your bathrooms, kitchen and laundry room. These long, narrow and low-maintenance sinks can help create a rustic ambiance and maximizes your use of space.
White and Stainless Steel Sinks are Out
As the modern farmhouse style continues to stay relevant, interior designers are shifting away from white and stainless steel sinks and choosing concrete, stone, copper and granite sinks in darker colors. This rustic home decor trend will help you add personality throughout your home.
Unique Backsplashes
If you’re looking to update your kitchen or bathroom backsplash, avoid subway tiles that were so popular last year. Instead, try out a more contemporary look with wooden, concrete, fabric or even wallpaper. This will give any space in your home a contemporary and unique look.
Relaxing Modern Bedrooms
When it comes to your bedrooms, 2018 is sticking to the mantra: “less is more”. Opt for more modern and minimalist furnishings, a laid back color palette, soft fabrics and simple furniture pieces. When you really want to escape, a relaxing modern bedroom will always be a welcoming place to go.
Playing with Tones of White in the Bedroom
It’s important to understand that white comes in different shades and can give off a unique look when used in conjunction to other colors throughout your bedroom. If you’re going for a cooler overall color scheme, with a navy bedspread, choose a white with undertones of blue to create a subtle yet more cohesive look. After all, white gives your bedroom clean, minimal and gorgeous style.
Clean Mid-Century Modern Design in the Bedroom
Beautiful clean pieces from the Italian designers of the 1960’s and 70’s are on the rise in 2018. Combine them with the overall white tones to enhance the wooden lines and you’ve got yourself one of the most talked about bedroom trends of this year.
Master Closets
In 2018, it may be time for a closet overhaul. This year, designers are changing closet spaces into a household spot fit for royalty. Staging areas in closets have become a widely circulating trend, giving busy homeowners a place to prepare their wardrobes quickly and stylishly.
Millwork Feature Walls
The increasing availability of beautiful millwork has helped support its popularity in the home design world. Before, you’d have to find a specialist to hand make any millwork you’d want done in your home. Today, most DIYers can handle the task, and connect it right to the wall behind beds or family room to create a feature wall.
Patterned Plants in the Bedroom
Not only do they look great and are right in-line with this year’s trends, bedroom plants can also help you sleep. Of course, don’t feel like you have to limit their use to the bedroom – they can make great accents all throughout your home.
Terrazzo Flooring
In keeping with the 70s-era design trends of this year, terrazzo flooring is making a big comeback. Terrazzo is a flooring material traditionally made by exposing marble chips on the surface of concrete and then polishing until smooth. Now, however, you can buy terrazzo in tile form, making them more affordable and accessible to the everyday homeowner.
Statement Ceilings
Statement ceilings are becoming popular this year as more home designers try to add visual interest into an often-neglected area. So, when choosing wallpaper or a paint scheme for one of your rooms, don’t forget to look up – and consider ways you can make a statement through a stylish ceiling.
Gray Kitchen Cabinets
If you’re wondering what color to paint your kitchen cabinets this year, gray will be the top choice in 2018. The kitchen industry’s leading manufacturers say that gray is likely to take over white as the most popular kitchen cabinet color. Try pairing gray cabinets with richly stained wood to be in-line with yet another kitchen trend — combining cabinet colors for two-toned look.
Open Concept Basements
Open concept layouts have been a popular trend in past years – in 2018, however, it moves to the basement. Traditionally, an open concept tears down closed off walls or dividers to create barrier-free spaces to allow you to move freely throughout the room. The best way to maximize use of natural space in your basement is to open it up, creating a modern and communal space. From the game room to the bar area, from the family sitting area to the theatre room and so on, you can have a multi-purpose space perfect to gather friends and family.
Theater Rooms
Always a popular choice among media enthusiasts, theater rooms are popping up in basements everywhere this year. If you really want to have a fantastic viewing experience, adorn your theater room with all the bells and whistles – from plush reclining seats to a projection screen to LED floor lighting and maybe even a popcorn machine.
Walkout Basements
Perfect for homes built on a hillside or sloping lot, where the entire foundation isn’t submerged underground (even though traditional fully submerged foundations can be remodeled into something similar), walkout basements are a luxury design trend for 2018. The advantage of such a basement is that it receives more natural light and can be accessed directly from the outside.
Smart, Technology-Driven Kitchens
Technology has become integrated into almost all areas of our life, and in 2018, we’ll see it enter kitchen design in full force. Smart kitchens are an evolving aspect of design. In fact, a lot of kitchens today are built smart from the ground up. For existing homes, sensors, smart gadgets and other devices can be retroactively added for convenience to the homeowner.
Quartz in the Kitchen
For a high-end feel in the kitchen, quartz is the in-style choice this year. As an extremely durable material that lasts virtually forever, it’s easy to take care of and is antimicrobial. Granite, while slightly more affordable, requires a bit more maintenance. Thanks to advances in quartz-manufacturing technology, new colors and finishes have been brought to market, as well as realistic stone patterns such as dramatic swirls. These new styles have become incredibly popular this year.
Countertop Color
There has been a sizable shift in countertop color schemes, towards softer and neutral hues. More and more kitchen designers are choosing grays, taupes, cream or white finishes. In the past year, pattern preferences have also shifted from particulates to veining. This supports the the common trend towards cleaner layouts seen in most modern homes.
Composite Sinks
Speaking of countertops, a rising trend in 2018 are composite sinks. These types of sinks are built from the same material as the countertop to create a seamless look and provide easier maintenance. However, because composite sinks are general more expensive than alternatives, expect farmhouse trough sinks to reign supreme this year. While we are still on the topic of countertops, it is important to mention the rising popularity of composite sinks. These are sinks made from the same material as the countertop.  This creates a cleaner uniform look and makes cleaning and maintenance much easier. However, it is going to be a tough battle against the still very popular stainless steel and farmhouse sinks.
Red Bricks on Home Exterior
Just as red is trending in the interior design world, red bricks are trending on the exterior of homes. This classic building material is coming back in a big way, and bringing its natural beauty, hues and warmth with it. It isn’t being used on the entire house, however, but used in a way to better enhance the home’s form, alongside other curated materials to give it a contemporary look.
Updated Outdoor Dining
While outdoor dining areas are nothing new, they’re being rethought in 2018. This year, we’re seeing more homeowners push their space further away from the home into a more cozy area of the yard, such as in the garden. Many people thing that right off the back of the house is the only option for outdoor dining, but when you’re immersed in the landscape, it provides you with a unique sense of ambiance. Some ideas include:
Supplementing the space with pre- and post-dinner entertainment spaces nearby, such as a fire pit
Surrounding the dining area with in-ground and container plants
Turning your dining area into a sanctuary with special lighting and furniture
Implementing a Small Garden
For those city-dwellers with limited space, don’t give up your dream on having a garden! In 2018, small gardens have designers excited, providing homeowners with a small, useful and attractive garden that adds a splash of greenery to any outdoor space. — — — Looking for more home design trends for 2018? 89 of the Best Hairstyles for Fine Thin Hair for 2017

89 of the Best Hairstyles for Fine Thin Hair for 2017
Best Hairstyles for Thin Hair
People with fine thin hair often have trouble finding a hairstyle that works because their hair just won’t settle properly with most haircuts, be it layers, curls, or bangs. Let’s fix that!
Famous hairstylists reveal that their clients with thin hair always ask for ways to make their hair look more voluminous, thicker, and easier to style.  Before we get into the best hairstyles for fine thin hair, lets take a look at how to add volume to make your hair more manageable.
Get your hair cut with layers. Layers not only add volume to thin hair but they will let you create many different styles and looks. Make sure to layer your hair according to hair length. For example, short hair needs shorter layers whereas long hair should be layered with extended lengths. There are also various hair products available on the market that you can apply to your thin hair to gain volume and thickness.
Volumizing shampoos are good way to add volume to thin hair. Massage the shampoo on wet hair and let it stay on your scalp for at least 2 minutes or as directed on the bottle. Whereas ordinary shampoos and conditioners leave a residue on hair after rinsing, volumizing shampoos work by reducing this residue that weighs down hair. Use a complementary conditioner for best results.
Check out these 89 cute and cool hairstyles for fine thin hair that may make your hair look thicker and boost your overall look

A new Artshop semester has started at Creative 360.  One of the biggest concerns my students bring to my attention in classes is “How do  I know which colors to use?” What colors can they mix together, and what colors basically turn to poo the moment they touch each other? Everyone probably has some vague memory of the color wheel from way back when in elementary school art class, but few remember what it actually is aside from a pretty rainbow circle.
Primary colors are like the color gods and goddesses. They are colors you don’t mix anything to get, they just are, and they are used to create all other color life. See the starred sections above, red yellow and blue. In between the primary colors, the color wheel shows you what will happen if you mix two of them together. For example, in between the red and blue space are various shades of purple, depending on if you mix in more red or more blue. If you mix all 3 primaries together, you get a neutral color (brown or grey/black depending whether there is more warm red or yellow, or more cool blue present).
Contrasting colors are colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel, note the black connecting line. Contrasting colors as a rule look amazing together due to how boldly they play off of each other (There are a lot of sports teams I can think of whose colors are blue and orange for example, and I don’t even follow sports!). However, if you mix them to try to make a new color, they will completely neutralize each other into a grayish or brownish color. Remember how all 3 primaries mixed together make a neutral? Well, think of why this would happen when you mix orange and blue, contrasting colors, together… Orange is made with red and yellow, add the blue, and you have all 3 primaries mixing.
Complementary colors are colors that are right next to each other on the color wheel. Because they are very similar, these colors always look pleasing together as well.
Look familar? The artwork on the left uses a contrasting color scheme of red and seafoam green. On the right a complementary color scheme is used with all different shades of purple, and some pink and dark red accents.
These color pairings aren’t just for artwork, they work well in interiors and clothing as well. Below is an interior idea based on my watercolor painting “If The Ocean Dreamed” that I mocked up on Polyvore, which is a really fun interior and style designing website to play around on. All items you can add to your “set” include links where they can be purchased as well.
Tumblr media
Once you’ve got the gist of it, you can become a C O L O R  M A S T E R and even get tricky and combine both contrasting AND complementary color schemes in one, like below. This is another fun set I put together on Polyvore using clothing I am selling on zazzle covered in my original artwork. This tank top features my piece, “Be My Eyes”. In styling this outfit, I used the contrasting color scheme of yellow and purple with the gold and plum apparel, but also added in some pink with the accessories as pink is a reddish hue that would be next to purple on the color wheel.
Tumblr media
The last type of basic color scheme is triadic. A triadic color scheme uses three colors that are equidistant from each other on the color wheel. Using only the primary colors red, yellow, and blue would be a triadic scheme as they are spaced equally apart on the color wheel. Another triadic scheme is green, orange, and purple, which I’ve used in the interior below.
Tumblr media
Appropriate that I will be going on an adventure to Lowe’s to collect paint chips shortly after I post this as my boyfriend and I will be moving from an apartment into a new home by mid June, and this means …. I can paint the walls!
I have to end this post like a proud art-parent with a selection of my Artshop students work from my watercolor class last semester. Looking forward to teaching another great class!
Colors Aren’t Scary! Understanding The Color Wheel. A new Artshop semester has started at Creative 360.  One of the biggest concerns my students bring to my attention in classes is "How do  I know which colors to use?" What colors can they mix together, and what colors basically turn to poo the moment they touch each other?
