in this book, one of the main protagonists is a female supersoldier, better than all the other supersoldiers, that two men are madly in love with. no, they aren't fighting over her. they're doing something dumber: they're willing to let the universe end for her.
in this series humans are functionally immortal. everyone's brain is mapped when they turn 18 and if you die, they just print you into a new body. but every time you die, your mind map breaks a little bit. and if it breaks too much, you 'crack' and just scream endlessly until someone kills you. if someone prints you while you're already alive, that cracks you because you can't exist in two places at once.
the supersoldier, of course, is able to fight through being cracked. she refuses to use the map repair software because it changes you. except wait! not for her it doesn't. someone kidnaps her mind and repairs it and she's perfectly fine after.
one of the men who is madly in love with her is a guy whose job it was to torture people until they cracked. except in this book, because he's willing to let the universe end for her, he suddenly starts doing all these good guy things. in the previous two books, it was said he and she were in an abusive relationship, but in THIS book it's revealed he was a terrible person because he got bullied by a teenager when he was seven. the supersoldier this whole time thought that girl he'd been looking for was his sister or something, and when she realises this long-lost disappeared teenager was actually his bully, she beats the shit out of her. because... they're friends now. for some reason. no, there is a reason, and it's that he's obsessed with her and the plot depends on him being obsessed with her, and that's worse.
anyway, the other man who is willing to end the universe for her is also the leader of humanity and grew up rich and sheltered and whatever and they spend half the book in a fight because the people she was brought up with had an honour code where, if their people were murdered, they got to murder the people who committed the murder. he thinks that's stupid and she's basically like 'so you think my culture is stupid?' and some of his soldiers desert because he said their eye-for-an-eye honour code was unnecessary.
and while all THAT is happening, the universe is expanding! cue a bunch of scientists who have very clear specialties suddenly becoming experts in quantum physics! the universe is expanding super fast because supersoldier came back in time to stop the head of humanity from saving the universe because apparently if she doesn't, he'll do something really monstrous to do it. the options are a) crack the supersoldier to stop the universe from expanding or b) mass print a bunch of people full of a specific kind of sentient fungus because the decay of the fungus will stop the universe from expanding. he refuses to do a) because she's already been cracked and he won't hurt her and he can't do b) because if he does, she won't love him anymore and also she'll kill him.
no way out of this one, right?
well, the supersoldier's future self goes and kills the man she's in love with because the antagonist double-prints him in order to crack him in order to hurt the supersoldier. so she prints herself full of fungus and basically makes the fungus help her. and even though it's been SUPER DUPER ESTABLISHED that you CAN'T double-print and if you do this, you will break yourself, guess what.
she prints herself like hundreds of times.
then she goes and somehow controls everything with the help of the fungus. she's hundred-fold printed and therefore hundred-fold cracked, but she's fine. no problems because of the sentient fungus. somehow. anyway, she fixes the problem by herself and then when everyone else is happy and repairing humanity, she goes and lives on the beach with a wolf - which is just about the only animal even mentioned in this series - by herself and tries not to commit suicide.
and THEN. the other man who is madly in love with her is worried she's going to kill herself, so he goes and gets the mind map of the head of humanity, which is the most destroyed map anyone has ever seen, and fixes it. somehow. he says he's really good at breaking people so that must mean he's really good at fixing them. that makes no sense but neither does the end of this book in general.
anyway, a year later the reprinted repaired man goes and finds her on the beach and says they can run away and live life alone together because in the year he was gone, the People who used to work for him have equally divided up his company amongst themselves and he doesn't have to lead them anymore because they've elected their own council. there are four other companies still running the universe the old way, but fuck it. these inexperienced ex-soldiers can surely fix everything and also somehow influence those other companies to follow suit no problem
There is, in fact, a such things as a book that reads like fanfiction. Some people deny such books exist, but you’ll know it when you find one

my favorite thing about the banpitbull subreddit is people going ‘hey do we have sources for X opinion’ and all comments are ‘well, in my personal opinion-’ without a single source shared. Or, the one time they share sources, it is cherrypicked paragraphs from studies that make broad statements about several dog breeds or dogs in general and have literally nothing to do with bully breeds specifically or they link to two websites that are specifically anti-pitbull and the fox news of dog hate.
One post was titled ‘why do we think pitbulls are aggressive’ and its a guy stating that his girlfriend who’s raised and trained multiple dog breeds, and knows more about dogs than him and is more researched on dog behavior than him wants to get a pitbull and he can’t refute any of her arguments as to why these dogs aren’t more aggressive than other large, high prey drive dogs and that for every one pitbull attack there are literal thousands of other bullies who will never attack anyone, so he’s running to his echo chamber for ways to argue with his girlfriend. And all the replies are anecdotes, what I mentioned above, and ‘make her look at this mauling video and see if she still wants one!’.
Listen, if your vitriolic hate campaign for mass dog banning and euthanasia can’t provide any meaningful data as to why they are so mad outside of one statistic from a suspiciously specific set of dates and The Daily Wire: dog hate edition, then maybe listen to your girlfriend and start looking into why a cheap, heavily over-bred, extremely common, and most-likely-to-be abused handful of breeds smooshed together to make number bigger might be responsible for more fatalities than 1 singular other breed that costs a thousand dollars a pup.
#things i found on reddit#like yes if all you do all day is watch dog mauling videos and read news articles about them#you will think that every bully is just waiting to murder you#but thats not what even the statistics you like to point to say#i hope that lady gets a new boyfriend and good ass bully to love

imagine being the poor soul assigned to work a serial murder investigation under detective john mactavish.
you're good at your job. analytical, committed, discrete. possessing an eye for detail that turns the most convoluted problems simple, and a mental stamina to sustain you through the more gruesome aspects of your work. but with the explosive nature of this case, in particular — the crimes perfectly suited to garner media attention, victims offed too fast and sporadically for authorities to keep up, stirring an uproar by people who feel as though you are not doing enough — your captain sees it best to place someone… better liked, at the forefront. an agent able to empathise, communicate, reassure, and flash a comforting smile for the public.
charm, you think, makes for a lot of things. the rogue scot proves to you that it does not help make a good sleuth.
his investigation strategies are inelegant. the only thing he manages to do effectively upon processing every emergency call is waste department resources. by the time you arrive on scene — because being supplanted as head has its unfortunate effect on when you get notified — technicians are overwhelmed collecting trace materials he's deemed vital (though they're clearly not); pathologists have been given information conflicting with the results of their examinations, skewing results; and there's absolutely no sign of the profiler working on branching the series of murders to one suspect.
it's like that, day in and day out. the patterns you were slowly starting to uncover come apart quick. mactavish overwrites your list of suspects, trashes 'trivial' witness statements, takes informants off payroll to reallocate discretionary funds towards surveillance tools no one is trained to handle, and is an overall nuisance when you take up your complains with him. you know this case like the back of your hand, have worked on it for months now. if he could just heed your advice and think about what he's doing before he does it, then your combined efforts could crack things open sooner rather than later.
charming. reckless. he also seems especially gifted at steamrolling your complaints—
take it up wi' the boss, lamb. there's a reason ah got pit in charge—ye need tae stop worryin' yer wee heid aboot these things. jist look at ma track record. speaks for itself, i think. say, how aboot ah treat ye tae dinner an' a private massage this week'nd, help ye unwind? ye're a bonnie thing under that issued jacket o' yours. gotta learn tae take it off, sometimes.
it's your antisocial nature that shuts you up. or that's what you like to believe, anyway — the closest thing you can attribute an overactive stomach to. in your own time, you test the integrity of his word and pull some strings to access his history. a near perfect case clearance rate, go figure, accompanied by glowing recommendations from every captain he's ever served. described as clever, crafty, tenacious.
words and numbers don't exactly do much to ease your conscious. you need evidence, a lead, a testimony, an arrest, to believe all the praise — especially with a growing list of families whose grief doesn't get easier.
still, you're quiet. more pliant, afterwards.
johnny takes a liking to your attitude shift.
if not a shaky starting trust, it just means that you don't complain when he bullies you into his car to kickstart a canvass. or as he reaches over to fasten your seatbelt for you, or when he pinches your cheek with some cheery encouragement on the tip of his tongue. you're obviously tired, still suspicious, but you let him do what he wants with little to say about it; driving from street to street, knocking on doors and asking random citizens if they've seen or heard anything suspicious.
and really, it's the final test when, by dusk, he gets nothing more than a you still haven't found my stolen car.
he waits to see if you have something witty to say about what a waste of time it all was. a comment to really grind at his gears, muttered under your breath like all the other foul doubts you think he hasn't heard.
(driving to the last house on his list, the sky deepening from pink to purple to black. everyone at the office should have retired by now, and will have expected you to have done so yourself. it's really a wonder he managed to get you out here. you must have put sense on the back burner to miss the purpose this excursion lacks. the fact that neighbourhood canvasses are only done after a fresh crime scene. never like this, mid-week, for no reason at all.)
only you stay silent.
he's glad you can learn to listen.
home is a comfort after such a long, tricky day.
johnny lets you knock on the door this time, standing two steps behind so he can properly absorb his handiwork. when simon answers, nursing a cigarette with a mean, cruel twist of his lips, he feels his heart strain a little between his ribs.
"good work, mutt." a large fist hooks under the collar of your jacket. before you know it, you're being slammed into the doorframe, knocked unconscious, and hauled into the foyer. "this one's pretty. might jus' keep 'er."
"aye, sir. easy tae break too, ah reckon."

Puzzle Pieces Ch.5
(Mafia!Miguel x Shy!Reader)
Ch.1, Ch.2, Ch.3, Ch.4
Warning: Eventual Smut so Minors DNI, mentions of abuse, blood, murder, language, fluff, bullying, mentions of sex
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
You could feel how hot your cheeks were still. Ever since you had kissed Miguel's cheek, you couldn't stop thinking about him. He was so nice to you and such a gentlemen. Honestly, all you saw were green flags coming from him. You really wanted to keep seeing him and talking to him and just, enjoying how you felt around him.
You were currently at work, wrapping some meat for a custom order. It was strange. Immediately after your first date with Miguel, your work load got easier. You didn't feel as stressed or tired anymore that you were actually able to eat normally again.
"The usual?" Your supervisor asked.
Your ears perked up, turning your head. There was Miguel, whispering something before a bunch of men entered the third freezer. You watched as Miguel slowly walked by you, his hand swiftly patting your head.
Oh, you loved it when he did that. Miguel had started to pat your head every now and then. It was a small token of affection, but it made your body feel all warm and fuzzy inside. You thought it was silly, but you wanted Miguel to keep showing you such small affection like that.
"Clock out when I finish," Miguel whispered.
Your ears perked up and just nodded to his request. Once he entered the freezer, you scurried to your supervisor and informed him of your early leaving. Your supervisor just agreed with ease and let you finish your work.
----------
Miguel just drank in every loving look you gave him. It felt like you were so close to being his, but Miguel hasn't even kissed you yet. He was still warming you up to be his little wife. Miguel needed to know how comfortable you were with his part of his life.
Sitting against his chair, Miguel watched as his men took care of another Goblin Society member. He hummed towards the man's screams, still recalling your adorable expression to his head pats. Honestly, how innocent could someone be?
"Miguel, he isn't talking." Peter whispered. Miguel lazily glanced towards the pathetic man,
"Hobie, do whatever."
"Aye, finally."
Miguel leaned back, not interested in this anymore. He already had a long night dealing with Alchemax work, only to wake up to this fool snooping around his base. Miguel just needed his dose of stress reliever, aka you.
Once the screams finally stopped, Miguel inhaled deeply. He stood up and walked towards the body then faced his men. Taking a look at his watch, Miguel grunted lowly.
"Tighten security. The fact that such a worm like this attempted to sneak around is pathetic." He spat then turned towards Ben, "You and Jessica go to the port and check the shipment. I don't want anymore surprises."
With a wave of his hand, Miguel left the freezer first. He walked through the maze of boxes and exited. The hallway where the freezers were was empty as usual. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, Miguel walked down the hallway, towards the deli.
You were looking better. It had only been two weeks since your first date, but things were changing for you for the better. Miguel made sure to have a word with the supermarket. He was going to take care of you little by little. You were deserving of his affection.
He on the other hand, did not deserve yours, but Miguel was sure as shit going to take it.
Making eye contact with you, Miguel watched as you hurried to clock out and get your stuff. Miguel was a greedy man. He always took what he wanted. That or it just happened to land on his lap, just like you did.
"S-Sorry, d-did I make you wait long?" You asked.
Miguel patted your head, enjoying the look you gave him. If only he knew it was this easy to win your heart. Miguel would have done this from the start.
"As promised, you get to pick the place for our date," Miguel said with a warm smile, walking you out of the supermarket.
"I-I saw there is this H-Halloween event in Central P-Park. P-Pumpkins, apple p-picking and some o-other stuff. C-Can we go there?" You asked him. Miguel helped you into the car,
"I'm not going to say no if it's where you want to go,"
"R-Really?!"
Watching you smile brightly, Miguel couldn't help but give in. If you wanted something, he was going to give it to you. Call it love, but Miguel was falling for you hard. His little bunny deserved everything, especially if you were going to be his.
-------
You squealed lowly as you and Miguel arrived at the event. Practically jumping in place, you grabbed Miguel's hand, wanting to look around. This was something new and actually fun. You hadn't had a chance to leave your apartment to do anything like this.
"Wah, look at those!" You whispered, spotting some stands that sold desserts.
Miguel just watched you, keeping his composure as he followed your every whim. Right now, he was outside his territory. Buying you a cupcake, Miguel watched as you stayed close to him, nibbling happily on the treat.
You couldn't stop smiling as you munched on your cupcake. For once, you actually went somewhere that you wanted to go. Not only that, but Miguel was treating you like his girlfriend. Following you around and getting you treats. It was making your heart flutter. Gripping his sleeve, you tried to hide your face as you kept enjoying your treat.
Miguel kept his arm was wrapped around you waist, keeping an eye out. Some of his men were around to keep guard, but Miguel still had to be careful. After all, everything worked out when he took care of it himself.
Miguel's goal was to have the whole city of Nueva York under his command. He was almost there, but there were still some small gangs and enemies who tried to stand in his way. Miguel wasn't going to let those scum win. Not when he was so close to being in charge of everything.
"Mhm~ Sure you don't want one?" You asked. Miguel leaned down towards you, his forehead against yours,
"If you let me lick off your crumbs," He whispered, watching your face turn bright red.
A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he wiped some frosting off you lip and proceeded to lick it off his finger. You squeaked and hid your face in your sleeve, while he scrunched up in disgust. Miguel was never a fan of sweets, but he'll do anything for you.
"W-Want....Want to pick out a p-pumpkin?" You asked lowly. Miguel played with you hair in response,
"Sure,"
You threw away your wrapper, still holding onto Miguel's hand. Your heart was racing since Miguel was the one who asked you to hold onto him at all times. You were feeling embarrassed. These dates were making you want Miguel more and more.
You were just scared.
Scared of another Eddie. You gave yourself the better of the doubt, wanting to believe Miguel to be different. So far, he sure did feel different, but deep down...You were still terrified of him turning around and turning into another Eddie.
Stopping at the pumpkin patch, you curiously looked around, wanting to distract your mind. You were having a good time with Miguel. It was best to avoid thinking about the past. Once you found the perfect pumpkin, you cheered quietly. You wanted to try and make your own pumpkin desserts. Give them to Miguel as a gift for taking good care of you. Picking up the pumpkin, you smiled and showed Miguel.
Right as you did, an explosion happened.
Miguel immediately grabbed you, pulling you into his embrace as he signaled his men to check it out. Miguel cussed lowly as he recognized the laughter to be Goblin's and his crew. Holding your head in place, Miguel swiftly picked you up and took you back to his car.
"M-Miguel," You whimpered, shaking as you still held your pumpkin.
"My driver will take you home. Text me when you arrive."
"W-Wait," You whimpered, putting your pumpkin down and hugging Miguel's waist, "P-Please...Please don't go."
"I have to," Miguel stroked your cheek and placed a firm kiss against your forehead, "Text me when you get home, mi amor. (my love)"
Your lips quivered as the car drove off. You watched as Miguel pulled out a gun and ran back to where the explosion was. Tears rolled down your cheek as you trembled in fear. You just wanted him to hold you a bit longer and tell you that everything was okay.
That's all you wanted.
---------
Miguel cussed in Spanish, angry that his date got ruined. Things were moving along quite nicely. Miguel actually felt like you were ready for him to kiss you. But, of course, like everything else good in his life, something had to happen.
"Take them down,"
----------
After a few hours of endless shooting and fighting, the Goblin and his crew ended up giving up. Well, Miguel got his hands dirty and beat the living shit out of the Green Goblin himself. Once the cops showed up, Miguel and his Spiders disappeared from the scene, leaving nothing but their webs of destruction.
Riding with Peter, Miguel finally looked at his phone and saw your text. He grunted lowly, recalling your tears before he parted. In an annoyed and demanding tone, Miguel told Peter to drop him off at your place.
It was a surprise, but Peter happily agreed. Teasing Miguel about finally finding love and whatnot. Miguel tuned him out since he knew that Peter was just going to show him more pictures of Mayday, his child.
"Peter, why don't you do something productive instead?"
----------
You whimpered lowly as you took the batch of pumpkin cupcakes out of the oven. You were still waiting for Miguel to text you back. It had been hours since you've heard from him. Five hours to be exact and you only knew that because it took you four hours to boil the pumpkin for the puree.
Placing the cookies down to cool, you gasp as you heard your door bell. Quickly, you rushed over and glanced at the peep hole. Seeing Miguel, you opened the door and tackled him in a tight hug. Tears rolling down your cheeks as you cried softly.
"I'm sorry, (Y/N)." Miguel whispered as he wrapped his arms around you, bringing you back inside.
"I-I was s-so s-s-scared! M-Miguel, p-please..." You whimpered into his chest, then gasped moving away, "S-Sorry! I-I'm getting your shirt d-"
"I don't care about my clothes," Miguel shut the door and pulled you back into his embrace, "How are you? No lingering pain from that explosion earlier?"
This a new. Your eyes widen as tears rolled down your cheeks as Miguel observed you. He was worried about you. Asking about how you were doing. No one had ever asked if you were ever doing okay. Shaking, you gripped Miguel's sleeves and hugged him again.
"Thank you," You whispered. Miguel sighed as he stroked your hair,
"Sit down, Mi pequeño conejito (my little bunny). I need to talk to you,"
You slowly followed Miguel to your couch, rubbing your eyes. You sat beside him, noticing the furrow in his brows. This was the most annoyed you ever seen him. You played with your sleeves, worried about what this could be about.
"I need you to know about what else I do, aside from being a CEO at Alchemax."
Miguel glanced at you, watching you fidget in your seat. He scoffed lowly, wondering what you were nervous about now. Gripping his hands, Miguel tried to hold this out as longer. It was always a risk telling someone about his mafia business. He had to secure their silence before revealing his secret.
But how could he do that to you?
You could have gotten injured today because of the Goblin's bullshit. Miguel wanted to protect those he cherished. His mafia group was made to protect the innocent, despite how it seems. Fixing his posture, Miguel turned towards you.
"(Y/N), what do you know about the mafia?" He asked, making eye contact with you. You flinched,
"Um...I've watched...the G-Godfather."
"Dios Mio. (My God). Alright, my fault there, I set the bar too low," He said with a grin, "How do you feel about underworld business?"
"Hm...Not sure...what you mean,"
"(Y/N), is there anything you know about the criminal world?" Miguel asked, honestly wondering your innocence. You shook your head,
"N-Not really, just that...it's bad stuff. Um, I-I was always told...t-to keep my nose down...a-and not...not know about anyone."
Miguel raised you chin, his thumb trailing your cheek. His eyes motioned you to come closer, to which you did. Miguel could see the curiosity in your eyes. The anticipation you had the closer to got to him. Miguel kept his hand against your cheek, his body turning to face yours.
"How would you feel if I was one of those bad people?" Miguel whispered, his other hand bringing you waist closer to him.
"Y-You're not...bad to me," You whispered.
"Oh, but I am,"
Miguel's smirk grew wider as he sat you on his lap, his lips drawing closer to yours. Once he had you secured, Miguel stole your lips in a deep kiss. Your lips were soft and your grip was light. It was strange, but Miguel felt a connection.
--------
You trembled slightly as you drew closer to Miguel. Your body was getting hotter as your heart raced faster. Once you were on his lap, you resisted a whimper. His touch was so soft and warm. He was gentle as he stole your lips with a kiss.
You felt weak as Miguel kissed you. His kisses were deep, rough, but somehow kind. His hand held your head while his other held your waist. You could feel your body heating up. Parting your lips for air, you whimpered lowly as Miguel took the opportunity to slide his tongue inside your mouth.
Another whimper escaped your throat as you gripped onto Miguel's shirt. As if he understood, Miguel broke the kiss, letting you catch your breathe.
"Sorry, got carried away there," Miguel whispered, holding your waist still. You shook your head,
"I-It's fine...I enjoyed it." You admitted shyly.
Miguel raised a brow as you stopped shaking. He raised his hand to your cheek again, watching you nuzzle into his palm. He smiled, finally giving into what Peter said. Miguel pulled you into a hug, letting you rest against him as he stared at your shitty cieling.
You belonged to him now. Miguel was going to hold off telling you about his mafia business. As much as he wanted to inform you now, Miguel had to make sure you were secured with him before saying anything. It will take some time though.
"Miguel," You whispered, slowly falling asleep, "I...made you...some pumpkin cookies,"
"I'll make sure to try them," Miguel hummed.
Once you fell asleep, Miguel inhaled deeply. You smelled delicious, probably from your soap. Miguel rubbed your back, his eyes glancing at the rim of your shirt. He wanted to see what you were hiding, but he knew that you needed to tell him.
That and he might lose his temper if there was something he did not want to see.
"Best not to think of that. Let me just enjoy this moment."
Closing his own eyes, Miguel decided to rest. He was comfortable with having you in his arms. This was a first and defiantly, not the last.

word count: 9.2k (HAHAHA I got wild with this one.)
warnings: MINORS DNI! this is 18+, no use of y/n, no real descriptions of reader, nsfw, smut, wlw, some slight bullying, this part has a lot of murder in it (so if you're not good with violence, pls skip out), use of guns, graphic description of dead bodies, ow*n is in a lot of this (sorry), dom!abby, abby giving reader a bed bath, fingering, eating out, use of a strap on, dirty talk, name calling. someone lowkey walking in on sexy time? if I missed anything, please let me know.
author's note: the wait is over! the love on part 1 blows me away. I love you guys so fucking much. you each make my heart so happy. thank you thank you thank you!!
“Hey, Heartless. Glad you could join us today.”
His voice makes your skin crawl. You rub your eyes, trying to clear the haze out of your vision. You’re overly exhausted. After Abby left, you never found sleep. You could not get her out of your mind. She left you disoriented.
“Hey, Owen,” You mutter, his name tastes disgusting in your mouth. He was gross to look at, let alone talk to. You decide to occupy your mind by checking over the guns you were just dispensed while you sit and wait for the jeep you would be loaded into gets gassed up.
“Heard you and Abby got into it.”
You heart stops. He can’t know?
You hold your composure, not even flinching at the question. If he did know, you’re just going to deny it and tell him to fuck off.
“What are you talking about?” You play dumb, not ever looking up to meet Owen’s gaze above you.
“Manny told me you were going in on her yesterday,” He sounds a bit unnerved when he says it. You stop checking over your gun, finally meeting his eyes. Before you can respond, you cock the gun before flicking the safety on.
“It’s not my fault she can’t pull her fuckin’ punches. We could’ve easily been picked off one by one since she didn’t want to unload her gun at some Scars.”
You don’t even realize how bitter you sound until it all comes out like word vomit. You weren’t even that angry about that, you knew you could handle it all alone. It was the fact that she left you hanging last night and became cold so quick.
Owen chuckles, “Take it easy, dude. I’m just wonderin’ why you think it’s okay to talk to her like that.”
He’s sizing you up. Typical of a man like Owen.
You stand up, knowing damn well it was the wrong day for him to do some shit like this to you.
You sling your rifle over your shoulder, “I’m not in the mood to answer to some fuck ass like you. And I’m also sure your new nurse girlfriend wouldn’t like to hear that her boyfriend is trying to stick up for his ex.”
“Don’t bring Mel into this,” He begins, his stance shifting, “You don’t get to talk about her.”
“And you don’t get to weasel your way into my business because you’re some entitled idiot who thinks every woman owes you something,” You begin to side step past him, “For all our sake, keep your mouth shut and leave the leading to the girls.”
You don’t listen to the rest of the shit he spouts at you. You walk towards Manny, who’s standing next to another guy, you think his name is Alex. You give him a slight nod of acknowledgment.
“Hey there, cariño,” Manny says a smile creeping across his face, “Sleep well?”
Your skin crawls.
“Like a baby,” You mumble, your eyes feeling heavy as you respond, “Who are we waiting for?”
“Abby and Leah will be here any minute,” Alex explains as he finishes filling the jeep with fuel, “Think they went to grab some breakfast.”
Hearing Abby’s name next to another girl's name made your throat tighten. You can’t be jealous. She’s not yours.
Just as you’re about to say something about being late to your checkpoint, Manny's eyes avert up to the door leading into the stadium. Abby and Leah appear, both holding a plethora of breakfast burritos. Your stomach had been upset all morning because of anxiety, so the idea of food makes you want to hurl. You observe Abby and Leah hand each foiled wrapped tortilla to everyone, making jokes about being late.
Abby’s eyes lock onto yours as soon as her head turns in your direction. She blinks before avoiding your gaze for Manny’s.
“Nice for you guys to join us,” Alex jokes as Leah walks towards him with an extended hand, burrito in tow.
You scoff, “Yeah, we should’ve left 20 minutes ago.”
Abby’s face drops from a soft smile to a deadly glare. She gives Manny a burrito, her hands holding two remaining.
One was meant for you.
“Yeah? Well you should’ve gotten a head start by yourself. Cleared the way for everyone.”
Her sharpness filled you with rage. She extends some foil towards you. Before you can even say anything, your instincts are to swat her arm away. The burrito flies out of her hand, splattering across the concrete floor.
“What the fuck,” She yells, her eyes trained on your deadpan expression. You feel a hand on your shoulder, and you glance back to a stern looking Manny. He doesn’t want a repeat of yesterday.
You look back at Abby’s furrowed eyebrows, her scrunched face causing sharp pains to go across your chest.
“I don’t like burritos.”
She shakes her head, “So you launch it out of my fuckin’ hands when someone else could’ve eaten it?!”
You don’t say anything, just turn and begin your climb up onto the jeep. You slip onto the spot you found yourself in yesterday, closest to the passenger side.
You watch everyone hesitantly get in behind you.
-
“Are you okay taking the top floors with Owen and Abby? Or do you want to come with me and Leah?”
Manny is adjusting his rifle on his shoulder. You all arrived to the skyscraper you heard Scars were trying to take over to get some higher ground on a popular WLF route. Your goal is to take out every Scar there and prepare it for WLF occupation.
Manny wanted to make sure you would not act up for Abby and Owen. He didn’t want to deal with the fallout if there was another incident involving you. He really liked you, he didn’t want to see you getting chewed out or possibly killed. You appreciated him looking out for you.
“That’s fine,” you settle your hands confidently on your gun, “I will be on my best behavior, Manny. Promise.”
“That’s what I like to hear.”
You stay back from the rest of the group as you all walk quietly through the destroyed streets of Seattle. Luckily this area wasn’t consistently flooded, so you didn’t have to wade through any filthy water today.
Abby walks in front of you next to Leah and Owen. You stare at her backside, trying not to make yourself too obvious. You need to cut it out, you need to focus.
When you all finally make it to the building, you huddle in with the group to remind each person where they are going. You and Manny hashed it out already so you want to be positive you knew where everyone would be if all hell broke loose.
Owen cringes when he hears that you’d be joining him and Abby.
You all split up to your designated places. You let Owen lead not wanting to argue when Scars could be on any corner. He starts towards a staircase, his gun trained forward. You follow him before Abby does, which means she gets to be behind you now. You three head up each staircase, your guns resting on your shoulders. You are as quiet as mice, your footfalls silent.
Owen stops, turning back to you and Abby.
“I hear them,” He whispers, pointing up the flight you have yet to go up. You nod, gesturing him to press forward. He continues on. This is when your adrenaline turns to numbness. You forget the emotions you had before you were in this staircase, they are now replaced with pure instinct.
Owen creeps open the door and that’s when you hear it.
A whistle from behind you.
You snap back, your finger and eyes reacting at the same time. A single Scar with their bow trained right on Abby. With one squeeze, they are on the ground bleeding and Abby jumps forward towards your body. She wraps her arms around your waist, her gun aimed towards the door Owen just opened. More whistling.
“Go!”
You’re not even focused on the fact that Abby has her hands on you, pulling your attention back to the open room of about 10 Scars. Owen is lighting up the room, but firing aimlessly. You hunch down, taking cover behind the door frame. Abby is beside you, tightly gripping onto her gun. You glance over at her. She’s not panicked, she’s not rattled. She’s angry.
You smirk at her, sickly enjoying her in this state.
You snap forward, aiming everywhere you see movement. Luckily Owen got the few at the front of the room. One, two, three, drop in their puddles of blood. When more gunfire erupts behind you, instinct is to look back. So when you look back at Abby firing skillfully at the people you missed, you just about fall to your knees.
When you look back, you realize no more movement stirs the smokey room.
“Everyone okay?” Owen calls out as you step forward as you wander around each piece of furniture in the room. You want to make sure you’re vigilant.
“I’m good, are you?”
You step over a man’s body as you spot a foot move behind a desk.
When you make it over to the body, it’s a girl with her hand over her neck. You aimed at her earlier, you could’ve sworn you aimed higher.
The fact that your initial thought was how you killed her made your brain snap back. What the fuck are you doing?
She’s trying to speak, but nothing is coming out. Blood is pooling on her chest and hands. You kneel down to her, your demeanor changing from violent murderer to grieving friend. Even with the scars littering her face, she looks just like any other girl you may know. Her mouth is moving but nothing is coming out. You reach out your hand, touching her leg.
You can feel your stomach flip when you notice a tear slipping from her eye. Guilt riddles your bones, the blood spilling from her by your own hand.
You swallow thickly before you mutter the words, “I’m so fuckin’ sorry.”
She lets out one final breath.
You stand, your legs feeling wobbly. You look back at Abby and Owen. He’s not focused on you, but Abby can’t look away from your actions. She gives you a curious look, watching you stumble a bit.
“What is it?”
You can’t even form words, too taken aback from watching the life slip from that girl’s eyes. It brought you back to when you were a child, watching your sister die. That could’ve been someone’s sister.
“What the fuck are we even doing?” You ask, trying not to stutter.
Owen finally looks over at you after stealing a guy’s gun magazine, “What are you talking about?”
You know you’ll get in trouble for saying what you really want to say. You can’t trust either of them. Everything would get back to Isaac.
So you don’t say anything.
You finish clearing the room, trying to avoid looking at the faces of the deceased. Owen and Abby leave the room while you trail behind them slowly. You’re on edge, trying to shake the emotions and ideas running through your head. It’s the same emotion you felt when that guy tried to force you to butcher a child, probably not even above the age of 10. Their mother stood by, screaming the child’s name, but you were too busy staring into the child’s eyes.
They are just like us. What are we doing?
Owen kicks open another door, leading you and Abby through what you assumed was an old board room. There was no one there, but as you looked across the water damaged floor, you notice one of the shattered glasses windows. You creep closer, the glass crunching under your boots. You look down to the street, the grass overtaking the main road. You start to imagine what this place probably looked like before the infection.
Now it’s a wasteland.
You realize how high up you are when you hear a shaky breath behind you. Abby stands close to you, trying to see what you’re seeing, but instead she starts to panic over the height you were at. You face her, remembering all the times you were forced to take the high ground with her, only for her to have a panic attack and leave you alone.
She’s practically dry heaving. You push her back, nudging her to get away from the open window.
“We don’t need you throwing up,” You grumble, your hand on her shoulder, “Stay back.”
She swallows, shaking her head. “Deal.”
Owen scopes out an attached room before you three continue pressing on. You needed to clear every room that wasn’t destroyed by time and vegetation.
You pander down an empty hallway by yourself, trying to ensure your footsteps are not loud. You grip your gun when you hear a couple voices in a separate stairway. You press yourself against the wall next to the exit, waiting for the voices to get closer.
“There can’t be that many left. We already got two of them.”
You snap your head the direction Abby and Owen were the last time you saw them. Now it’s only Abby. She stares at you, her eyes glinting with curiosity. You nod towards the door next to you, cocking your gun.
She knows what that means. She jogs over, trying not to be too loud.
When she gets to your side, she gets into a defensive stance. The voices are coming down the stairs, you think.
“Aim up. There’s two.”
She nods right before you kick open the door, exposing the two people on the stairs. They don’t even have time to raise their weapons before Abby riddles them with bullets.
The sound attracts Owen, who comes stomping down the hallway.
“There’s more, go down!”
You hold your ground, shaking your head, “We can’t! Isaac said we need to c-”
“Fuck what he said. We are gonna die if we stay!”
Owen is never one to abandon a mission, so you take his word for it. But you know what you heard, if they did kill 2 people, one of them could’ve been Manny. And if they killed Manny, you don’t know what you’d do. Manny is the only other person you can tolerate in the WLF. Besides… you know.
You have to just hope he’s okay.
Abby’s eyes widen as she looks down the hall where Owen was just coming from. Whistles erupt and you know what that means. Abby grabs your free hand, practically ripping your arm out of the socket as she takes off down the stairs.
You’re practically being dragged down the steps, skipping multiple steps at once as Abby never gives up your hand. Owen is close behind, but every so often, he stops to aim up the stairs to spray bullets. He’s trying to slow them down, but he’s also probably attracting more to your location. A door swings open in Abby’s path, and without even thinking for a millisecond, you lift up your gun and shoot directly into the opening. It was just one guy and your aim was spot on. Your mind is solely on protecting the girl who’s incapable of letting go of your hand.
“Keep moving!”
Another five flights and you’re finally on the ground floor. Abby finally releases your hand, letting you catch your breath for a second as Owen stands his ground and lights up the staircase behind you.
“We need to find the others! Now!” Abby yells over the gunfire.
You stumble forward, checking down the hallway you watched Manny and Leah go down before you three walked up the stairs. You don’t even say anything, you just start running down the corridor. Your throat is tight just thinking of Manny’s lifeless body.
Two Scars appear behind a corner and you expertly shoot them, running straight pass them without hestitating. You’re in fight or flight mode, your body shaking with fear that you could stumble upon a horrible scene.
You don’t know when you start doing it, but you start screaming his name. Over and over again. You’re giving away where you are to the enemy, but you did not care.
Before you can finish slaughtering more people, Manny and Leah yell your name from a room at the end of the hall. When you get to the door, you kick it open with all your might, breaking through the door with your foot.
“¿Qué pasó? Are you alright!?”
You’re panting and on edge, so when you see Manny’s concerned face, you breath a sigh of relief. His voice brings a bit of comfort as well.
Abby finally makes it to you, her boots halting right behind you, while her hands find the sides of your body.
“We gotta go! There’s more Scars than we thought. We either go or die!”
You swallow thickly, your body buzzing at the feeling of Abby’s large hands on your hips. She’s not doing it on purpose, it’s almost like she needs to have you close. She needs to protect you just like you protected her.
Manny glances over at Leah, nodding in agreement that they are on the same page. Abby pulls you away from the threshold so they can leave the room they were scoping out. Owen gets to you four, informing everyone where he thinks the Scars could hide and how they would probably make your escape hard. Abby’s hands are still on you.
You glance back at her, your lips slightly ajar. She looks down at you with hooded lids.
“We are getting out of here and you’re not leaving my side, got it?” She whispers for your ears only. You just nod.
You’re just following everyone at this point, keeping your finger trained on the trigger of your gun. Abby follows you closely, not letting you out her eyeline. You run through each corridor, trying to seek out a good exit. When you finally reach the end of a hallway, you peer out the floor to ceiling windows to see if you spot any Scars outside. There’s two rooms beside you that look like they are empty, but there’s no light shining through the thresholds. This is the only way out down this hallway. You were sick of being a sitting duck. When you realize you have no other choices you liked, you shoot out the window.
The group jumps back at your reaction.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Owen yells, smacking your shoulder hard. You turn your gun and aim it right at him. Abby’s eyes widen at your action, her arm instantly going up to block the barrel of your gun. She’s pleading with you, her eyes never leaving yours.
“I’m getting us out of here. Why do you insist on being a prob-”
Before you can get the rest of the word out, you hear footsteps approaching you quickly from the right. All you can remember is the air being taken from your lungs and your body flying sideways, away from Abby’s protective stance.
-
When you come to, you’re being held up by someone. You blink slowly, but your eyes will not focus on the person whose arms are holding you tight.
“What’s happening?” You manage to mutter. As you say it, you taste blood. Your ears are ringing, but you can still hear the voices around you. They are yelling to run faster!
“You’re gonna be fine, okay babe?”
You know that voice.
“You can’t call me that.”
She slows down a bit just to look at you, “Can call you whatever I want.”
Your head hurts. You know you can not fight the exhaustion plaguing your body. You can’t even argue back to her. You shut your eyes again, succumbing to the darkness.
-
You notice the pounding headache first. Then the very dimly lit hospital room you’re in. Then the presence in the corner of the room.
“Welcome back,” Her voice is smooth and velvety. You prop yourself a bit, but as soon as you do, it’s like the pressure in your head doubles. You feel like your brain may implode, the pain pulsating against your skull. You try to widen your eyes to focus on her, but your brain cannot muster enough energy to do so. Your vision is just slightly blurred while you train your eyes on her.
“What happened?” Your voice is weak and your mouth is dry. You try your best to create saliva, but nothing really happens when you smack your chapped lips.
“You got tackled by a Scar before any of us could see him coming. Asshole was quick. You smacked your head pretty hard on the floor,” She stands up from the chair in the corner, making her way closer to you. She’s not wearing the same shirt as yesterday. She’s in a long sleeve thermal, the light off white is a good color on her.
You blink slowly, trying to take in the information, “What happened to him?”
“Manny shot him when I was ripping him off you. It attracted a lot more of them. I grabbed you before anyone else could and just took off running.”
You look up at her when she gets to your side. You don’t say anything, just shake your head. You can’t believe Abby, of all people, saved you from possible death. She had your back the whole time, even though you gave her shit. You didn’t even realize the small glances, the quick actions when you were in your own zone.
All you could think about the whole time is how you were totally off your game and Isaac was going to have your neck for it.
“And the rest of the group?”
“They were close behind. We made it back to the jeep pretty quickly. I held you in the back until we could get to the hospital. That’s where we are now.”
“Who didn’t make it out?”
Her lips go into a thin line, “Alex and Kerrigan.”
Alex was the guy from earlier this morning with Manny. He seemed nice enough, surely he didn’t deserve to die. Kerrigan was a girl you remember from a couple of meetings with Isaac. She was a smaller girl, quick on her feet and very quiet. You can’t even really remember her face, which makes you feel bad.
“Shit… I’m sorry we couldn’t get to them.”
“Not your fault. They knew what they were getting into when we had them join patrols. I know Owen’s taking it pretty hard.”
You want to smack her for even bringing up his name. But you don’t. You know she still may have a special place in her heart for him. You just despised him, especially after he confronted you this morning. Prick.
She’s taking her time explaining things to you. You realize she’s not ever looking away from you when she speaks, something she usually does when you stare at her. She’s watching you carefully, her beautiful eyes soft with empathy.
“Are you okay?” You question, reaching out to her closest hand. She doesn’t pull away when you grab it, bringing it into your side.
She bites her cheek, “Yeah, course I am. Just glad I got you out of there.”
The softness of her whisper brings warmth to your entire body. You didn’t care about your head, or how hot the room was, or how you may have serious repercussions when you got back to the Stadium.
What mattered is that she’s here. She’s here and she wants to be. You felt relief that she may have come to her senses about what happened between you two. Something had to of changed.
“What changed? Why are you so dead set on helping me now?”
She winces, probably not expecting you to ask such a question. She contemplates for a minute, licking her lips to prepare herself for what she’s about to say.
“I can’t stop thinking about last night. Made me realize how I really feel about you,” You’re heart races at her words. You’re amazed when she continues, “I think I was scared of having those types of emotions for you. That’s why I couldn’t stay. I didn’t want to lay in your bed and overthink everything when it’s pretty simple.”
You furrow your eyebrows, “What’s simple?”
“The fact that I like you. And I have for awhile.”
It’s like the world stops and it’s just you and Abby. You can tell she’s nervous to say it, but she needed it off her chest like it was suffocating her. She lefts out a long huff, crouching down in a squat. Her unraveling braid falls onto her shoulder and you let your eyes trail it down to her chest. You notice some blood speckled in with her freckles, right near her button nose and cheekbones.
“Yeah, I like you, too.”
She smiles subtly, trying not to get too excited over the confession. But the truth was that she wanted to jump up and down in elation. She had never had someone confide in her about their feelings for her, so the idea that someone as beautiful as you could like her despite all her baggage, it gave her hope.
“I want to go home,” You grumble not sure what else to say, your thumb running over the back of her hand, “I wanna go home with you.”
“The doctor here wants to monitor you another day. I have to ship out and get back to explain to Isaac what happe-“
“No, fuck that,” You squeeze her hand, “You’re staying here with me and bringing me back to the Stadium. I’m not going back with anyone else.”
She notes the serious nature of your tone. She looks up at you with those eyes. Abby Anderson could very well be the death of you.
“I can’t refuse orders, babe,” She states, her eyes falling to your joined hands.
“Bullshit, Abby. If you tell Isaac I want you as my transport, he will let you stay. I don’t want to be with anyone else.”
You’re practically panicking thinking about Abby leaving without you. With the way you feel now, you don’t want to be out without her. She felt like the safest person to have around. You can’t trust anyone else.
You start to finally bring wetness back to your mouth, “Tell him that you need to be with me.”
“You know damn well everyone will be suspicious. I need to go back. You need to stay here. Nora will take you back, you’ll be s-“
“Get me out of this fuckin’ bed right now. I’m going with you.”
You stay to move but your body feels like jello. As soon as you try to plant your feet on the ground, Abby is reaching over your legs and placing them back on the gurney.
“Babe,” She pleads, “Just… fuck. Okay fine, I’ll stay. I’ll stay. We can both answer to Isaac when we get back, I guess.”
Relief rushes over your body.
“He’s going to have a lot to say to me, that’s for sure. I failed two missions in a row that usually are a piece of cake,” You put your free hand over your forehead. You’re sweating so bad. You glance over at Abby who’s reaching over to one of the tables by your bed for a rag, “I’m not a submissive girl to him like I am to you.”
She smirks up at you. She can’t believe you admitted to being a submissive to her.
“Yeah, you are, aren’t you?”
If your body didn’t feel like shit, you know you’d be grabbing Abby by her collar and hauling her up on the bed to kiss you. She made your face go hot, her piercing eyes raking down your body. You almost felt embarrassed being so vulnerable in front of her.
“Stop looking at me like that,” You warn, adjusting your butt on the hard bed.
“Like what?”
You rake your mind for a response. You settle for repeating something she said to you yesterday.
“Shut that stupid smart mouth up for a minute,” You try to mock her but you sound nothing like her. She laughs at your half assed imitation. She pats your head with the cold rag, getting all the sweat off your forehead.
“Get some sleep, you weirdo.”
-
“How ya doin’, princess?”
You shake your head at the nickname, smacking her arm with your left hand. You’re still weak and tired, but you felt a lot better with some extra rest. Abby loaded you up in a jeep as soon as you could hobble outside, and now you are heading back to the stadium. You couldn’t wait to get in your bed and sleep for three days straight.
“‘M good, thanks.”
Her smile is the sweetest thing you’ve ever seen. You didn’t know what this meant for you two, but you were excited to see how things would change over time for you two. Maybe you’d be put on less patrols together, but you could spend your free days and nights with her. After all this time, you could have her.
She taps her fingers on the steering wheel, “Can I ask you something?”
“Depends.”
She slows down the car to glance over at you, “What did you mean when you asked what the hell we were doing? Yesterday when that Scar was trying to reach out to you as she was dying?”
Your heart sinks. Your mind instantly goes to betrayal. Abby is only acting like this towards you because she wants information. She wants to rat you out.
You go from thinking about your deep desire for Abby to thinking about how to protect yourself, she’s going to ruin your life. You’re instantly spiraling.
“I don’t know what you’re asking me. Are you insinuating something?”
You watch as panic spread across her face. She realizes how bad she sounds asking such a question.
“No, no,” She’s starting to stutter and use her hands as she speaks, “That’s not what I meant by it.”
“Then what did you mean?”
“I’m just wondering if you feel the same guilt I feel sometimes! You know, like when you kill a someone and watch the life leave their eyes, I don’t know. Jesus.”
You breathe a sigh of relief. She wasn’t trying to double cross you, just emphasize with you. You really can not trust yourself to think the worst of everyone. Maybe because it felt like everything with Abby was too good to be true.
You wet your lips, “Yeah, that’s what I meant. I don’t like to… I never enjoy killing people. I never have.”
She can’t help but laugh a bit. “Well you’re really fuckin’ good at it.”
“Top Scar killer in all the WLF,” You wince when you say it. She doesn’t say anything just shakes her head, speeding up the jeep down an old abandoned alleyway. You weren’t too far from the entrance to the Stadium.
She clears her throat, “There’s only one person I’d really enjoy killing.”
Abby has never shared a lot about her past. You knew she and the Salt Lake crew were former Fireflies. You knew that she lost her dad not too long before she got to Seattle. But that’s all the information you managed to get out of her when you two were close before. She didn’t want to talk about herself, she’d rather hear about your tortured past.
“Who?”
“Joel Miller,” Silence takes over the cabin of the car. You have no idea who that is or why she cared to kill him. Before you can ask, she speaks up again, “The man who killed my father.”
You understand what it feels like to want revenge. But you also know what it’s like to finally get it. Most of the time you still feel bad. Nothing brings back the dead, not even the satifaction of watching their killer’s take their last breaths. You brutualized the man who killed your sister, and it never made her death any easier. But you knew that yearning was different for everyone. Maybe it would make Abby feel better.
You decide it’s best to just nod, acknowledging her desire.
The rest of the ride is pretty quiet, just the sound of crackling of rocks under the SUV’s tires. When you get to the entrance of the Stadium, Abby waves and calls out to the gatekeeper. He opens the tall wired fence and lets you two pass through. As soon as Abby parks, it’s like a swarm of people surround you two. Abby gestures you to wait so she can get your door. You laugh thinking about that stupid saying some old people say.
Maybe chivalry isn’t dead.
She swings open the door, pushing aside some random guy who’s staring you down. You grab Abby’s shoulder as you ease yourself onto the concrete. You were still a bit unsteady when you walked. It was a mixture of the weakness but also Nora told you that the concussion you have is probably causing balance issues. You took her word for it.
“Top Scar killer not looking so well, now,” The guy mutters from behind Abby, “Who knows, maybe one of us can be Isaac’s favorite ass kisser!”
You don’t even know the guy and the vibe he’s giving off is making you nervous. He’s about 5’8” and stocky. Abby could take him herself, but you don’t feel the need for her to fight for your honor after everything that you two have been through in the last two days. Abby huffs out in annoyance, ensuring you’re able to stand properly. You start to walk towards the ramp that leads up to the Stadium’s main corridors. The guy is still muttering shit as Abby unloads your backpack and hers.
“What are you friends with her now, Abby?”
“Can you fuck off? Does it look like either of us are in the mood?” She spits, slinging your backpack over her shoulder. You stand and wait at the base of the ramp for her to catch up. The guy just follows her closely, interrogating her about the mission that failed. Abby just ignores him, her eyes locked on yours. Before she makes it to you, the guy asks one final question.
“What do you have a crush on her or something?”
Abby drops her backpack on the ground, and within seconds, she has the guy pinned to a truck parked near the ramp. His body makes a loud thwack when he hits the metal. Her back muscles flex as she tightens her grip. As hot as it is, you don’t feel like watching her beat someone bloody for something so dumb. You weren’t feeling your fiesty self, you just wanted to be in bed.
“Did anyone ever fuckin’ teach you manners or are you just that fuckin’ dense?” She has her teeth clenched. As you get close, you see that she’s ripping his t-shirt. Your moving slowly, but as soon as violent words are being exchanged, you firmly grab Abby’s arm. She peels her eyes away from the guy, her face still scrunched in frustration.
“Just let him talk his shit, Abs. He’s just jealous because he can’t get any pussy.”
You don’t even know why you included the last part, but it only aggravates the guy more. You aren’t very good at deescalation. You usually instigate things, it’s your specialty.
Luckily, the master of settling fights comes running down the ramp. Manny.
“Hey, you guys just got home and you’re already stirring up trouble?”
Abby still has the guy pinned, his eyes trained on your fragile frame.
Manny grabs Abby’s arms and pries her off the guy, his body blocking you away from the guy as well. He starts speaking Spanish under his breath, probably venting his frustrations about Abby and you not giving him a moment of peace.
He talks down the guy, guiding him away from you and Abby. You bend over to grab her bag and shakingly hand it back to her. She watches carefully as Manny escorts the guy further down the parking lot. With her free arm, she wraps it protectively around you. You get chills up your arms and back as you two walk into the Stadium. You’re surprised she’s showing any inkling of liking you to other people, especially her peers. You know there were probably about 10 other people in the parking lot, and they for sure saw her sticking up for you.
She drops her arm as soon as you make it to the main hallways. People glare over at you as you drudge yourself down the halls, finally making it to a staircase that would put you right in front of your room. Abby lets you start up the stairs first while she stands behind you, keeping her eyes wide in case you fall backwards. You’re relieved as you reach the last step and spot your door waiting for you.
Abby runs ahead of you, grabbing the door and wiggling the knob.
“It’s locked.”
She rolls her eyes, “I know that now. Where’s your key?”
You turn your jaw upward and gesture towards the necklace. “Here.”
Instead of making you unravel it, she lifts her hands up to your chest. Her fingers travel down from your neck to your collarbones. She’s teasing you and it’s working.
She grabs the key and toys with it for a minute, trying to release the clasp. Once she figures it out, she holds the key up like a grand prize.
“You’re so stupid, please let me in my room.”
She giggles as she sticks the key into the latch and turns it, “Patience, princess.”
Once the door clicks, she opens it for you. The cold air of your room rushes out and cools your sweaty and dirty skin. You get a sense of solace when you walk in, your body feeling a bit reenergized at the sight.
Abby walks close to you, shutting the door behind her. She shimmies off your bag, dropping her own near the door.
“You mind if I stay for a bit?”
Butterflies creep into the pit of your stomach. You turn to face her, spotting a somewhat hesitant girl picking at her cuticles.
“I was hoping you would. Maybe you could give me a bed bath, just like my nurse did.”
She nods, a smirk plastered across her freckled face.
“If you need me to, I can for sure do that,” She starts to walk over to your sink, searching for some sort of bowl or towel, “I could probably do a better job.”
You stumble over to the side of your bed, kicking off your boots with a grunt. You know exactly where this is going, and even with your weakened body, you want her so bad.
She continues to search around, finding a large bowl and a couple of your wash rags. She fills the bowl with the warmest water as you peel off some of your clothes, leaving you in just your underwear and tank top.
“A better job, huh?”
She finds a bar of soap near your shampoo bottles. She sniffs it before she bounds over to you.
“Yeah,” She places the bowl on your side table, dropping a rag inside it to soak it, “I think I know your body a little bit better than Nora. Especially after the other night.”
She can’t talk to you like this, especially now that you’re in your underwear. You scoot over on the bed to allow her to sit as she rings out the blue rag. She lathers a bit of soap on it before she starts with your arms.
She grabs your wrist delicately, lifting it so she can clean the dust and dirt off. You watch her so intently, watching her wipe you down. When she finishes one arm, she does the other. She takes her time, tilting it back and forth to ensure she got every side.
“You want me to do your legs next?”
You smile as she soaks the towel again and ring it out. “You can do whatever you want, Abs.”
She raises her eyebrows as she creeps further down the bed. She kicks off her shoes, settling herself between your slightly spread legs.
“This bringing you back?” You question, slightly adjusting yourself so your legs get closer to her sides. She shakes her head sheepishly, grabbing your right ankle.
“Hmm, maybe,” She traces your legs with the rag, using her other colder hand to rub in the wet areas, “If you weren’t so weak, I’d treat you just as well as the other night.”
Even in your broken state, you can’t help yourself. “Easier to control me when I’m like this.”
She chuckles, shaking her head, “That’s taking advantage of you, and that’s not my style.”
I guess now that she confessed her feelings for you, you had to deal with a softer Abby. One that wouldn’t take control of you in the public showers. You watch as she softly runs the lavender scented towel up and down your bruised and battered legs. She is focused, not looking at you, but her eyes trailing up and down from your thighs to your ankles.
You sit up further, leaning forward and raising your fingers down to her chin. You tilt her focus to your gaze.
“What if I want you to? Ya’ know, give you my consent?”
Her eyes darken as she settles back a bit, making your hand fall from her face. She tenses up her shoulders before rolling them back, easing herself into the idea of getting between your legs again. You smile watching her do the mental gymnastics.
Her hand settles back onto your thigh, “You’re so desperate.”
You know you got her.
Without saying another word, her hand travels up to your underwear. She softly places her hand over your mound, her thumb tracing your clothed slit. You lay back as wetness pools in the spot she’s touching, your body heating up naturally.
Before she goes any further, she pulls away and plops the rag into the warm water on your side table.
She leans forward towards you, repositioning her entire body by propping herself on her elbows right in front of your core. It was hot watching the girl you were obsessed with settling herself, still fully clothed, before your heat. You could cum at the sight alone.
She rubs small circles right where your eager clit was through your panties. Before you can even moan out for her, she slips past the fabric and dips her pointer finger into your core. As soon as she does that, it feels like the coil may snap. You didn’t even realize how horny she has you. Maybe it was the anticipation or maybe it was the fact that this time you knew her true feelings for you. Hate sex was hot, but sex when you know she’s plagued with thoughts of you when you’re not even around, that was even better.
You don’t expect her next move. Instead of sliding your panties off, she uses minimal strength to just rip them in half.
As soon as you’re fully exposed for her, she turns into an animal. She mewls at your glistening slit.
“All for me?” She questions before leaning in to pepper kisses all along the wet trail. You can’t help but whimper desperately at the action.
“Yes, Abs. All for you.”
She flattens her tongue, moving further into you. Her actions are painfully slow, taking her time to drink you up. You instinctively try to close your legs together when she starts to move faster, being overwhelmed by her maneuvers. As soon as you try to move, she’s using her strong arms to hold you down. Your legs are practically pinned to the bed, her right hand still sticky from your center.
She shakes her head back and forth, creating a whole new feeling in your stomach. You don’t even think about how loud you’re being for her, not caring if the older guy next to you hears how loud you’re getting for Abby fucking Anderson.
For not being with women often, Abby knew exactly how to treat your pussy. She decides to change it up and add her fingers back into the equation. Once her index and middle finger enter you, you know that familiar feeling heating up your stomach.
“Abby, fuck, don’t stop.”
And she doesn’t. Instead she quickens her mistrations, her lips enveloping your clit and her fingers fucking you faster. You reach down, grabbing her braid and the crown of her head and push her further into you as your orgasm crashes down. She drinks you down, taking everything you gave her.
She pulls away from you, her face wet with your slick.
“Such a good girl for me,” She continues to play with you, her fingers remaining in your heat, “Do you need me to stop? Or do you want me to give it to you like I did before?”
You smirk as you glance towards the toy that you tucked back into your side table.
“It’s in there,” You croak out, “Need you to.”
She reaches over you, her body pressed against your stomach as she opens the top drawer and grabs the strap. Your stomach is reeling in anticipation, ready to watch Abby on top you.
When she gets it out, she rolls off the bed completely. You watch as she strips off her shirt, leaving her bra on. You still are in disbelief of her body, her muscles highlighted perfectly by the glisten of sweat. She keeps her underwear on but you crave to see how wet she is.
“Take the underwear off,” You say, reaching out to touch her toned stomach, “Wanna see all of you.”
She puts the strap on, ignoring your request.
“I’m not taking any demands from you right now, sweetheart. You take what I give you.”
You loved seeing her be dominant. Seeing the appendage hang from her center makes you throb. She gets back on top of you, caging your body in with her strong arms. She nudges your nose with hers, teasing you by keeping her lips inches away from yours.
“Need you, Abs.”
She captures your lips as soon as the words leave your mouth. Her lips aren’t the only thing moving into you, her hips grind into your open core. The plastic cock does not enter you, but the mixture of her kissing you and grinding is enough to send you into maddening moans.
Her swollen lips pull away, her eyes dark as she lines herself up with your opening. She drags the cock up and down, gathering your slick before easing it inside. You see stars as it stretches you, your voice hearse and gutteral. Abby eats it up. She zeros in on watch it ease out of you and split you wide open. You’re so wet, the squelching sends her to another dimension. She settles into a pace that was agnoizingly slow, taking her time with your body. She reaches behind your legs and bends them so they wrap around her waist. The new angle allows her to hit you in all the right places.
Your orgasm is building with each stroke. She’s smiling while your mouth is set in an “o” shape, loving the reactions she was getting out of you.
“Jesus, taking me so fuckin’ well, baby,” She mewls, her hands caressing up your sides to grab onto a very important part of your body that she hardly played with this time around. You’re not wearing a bra under your tank top, so when her hands make it under the white fabric, her fingers pinch at your nipples. “You love when I fuck you like this don’t you?”
“Yes, Abby, please. I need to cum.”
She leans forward, bringing her greedy lips to yours. Since your lips are already open, her tongue enters your mouth. You suck at it, trying to get her to pay attention to your pleas. She retracts back, fucking into you harder.
“Cum for me, then, you little slut.”
The words send you overboard. You’re falling, crashing. The waves of pleasure take over every achy muscle, your body jerking forward into Abby’s sweaty upper body. She wraps her arms around you, fucking into you still as you fall apart. You don’t know the words you’re saying, you’re just loudly whispering into her ear.
Once your vision clears up, you look to the side to check your position out in the mirror ontop of your dresser. You looked like a fucked out mess, but Abby is the most beautiful thing you ever did see.
You’re trying to catch your breath, your body feeling even weaker than before. Fucking someone when you had a concussion was probably not the best idea, but god damn did every part of you feel like it was buzzing. Abby stands up, her legs wobbly from being on her knees so long.
“Do you want me to make you cum?”
She smiles at your question, but she shakes her head. She yanks down the strap, opening the side drawer and tossing it in.
“No, I just wanted to treat you. You can repay the favor when you’re feeling better.”
You start to laugh, throwing yourself back into your pillows. As soon as Abby starts to crawl back into bed, there’s a loud knock at your door. You’re both half naked, so the scramble for clothes is instanteous. You grab the first pair of pants you see and as you’re yanking them up your legs, you realize they are Abby’s.
“Coming in!”
It’s Isaac’s voice. Your stomach drops as the knob turns and you and Abby stand completely still in your spots. Her pants don’t fit you well at all, so hold them over your private area to block any eyes from it.
He doesn’t even make eye contact with you, he instantly meets Abby’s panicked gaze.
“What the hell?” He turns to you and immediately turns his back, “Well I see that you’re feeling better.”
Your blood ran cold.
“Yeah, can you uh, give us a minute?”
He doesn’t say anything, just opens the door and slams it behind him. You’re appalled that he even opened the door without confirmation of that being okay. Your eyes snap over to Abby, who’s look of fear turns into rage. You yank off her pants and toss them to her.
“We’re fucked,” She mumbles, putting her clothes on. You search a nearby dresser drawer for some sweatpants and pull down your ragged tank top. You look back at Abby to check to make sure she’s clothed before you head back to the door and let Isaac in.
You nod at her before grabbing the handle and pulling the door open. When you meet his gaze, he doesn’t look impressed. You are shocked to see another figure beside him. Manny.
“Hey there,” Manny greets, his eyes showing a bit of hesitance. “We good to come in now?”
You don’t say anything, just open the door wider for them to step through the threshold. Abby stands by your desk, her arms crossed. She tries to keep an emotionless expression, but you can tell she’s pissed. And maybe a bit nervous.
“Just checking in to see how you are,” Isaac says, his pacing leading him to one of the chairs in the corner of your room. You bite the inside of your cheek.
“Just a concussion. Some bruises. Should be good to get back on after some of the nurses here clear me.”
You try to sound confident but you’re still somewhat dazed from the sex you just had. You lean against the beam in the center of your room, trying your best not to look over to see what Abby is doing. You could still feel your cum dripping down your leg.
“Yeah I don’t think you’ll be getting back on any time soon,” Isaac says, his demeanor changing towards you, “I still don’t trust you. And now you’re sleeping with Abby? You think I don’t see what you’re trying to do?”
Your heart sinks, “What the hell are you talking about?”
Manny clears his throat, “Owen told us you were questioning the mission. That you weren’t pulling your punches. Letting some Scars live.”
“Well, he’s a fuckin’ liar!” Your voice is cracking, unsure of how to defend yourself. You were pissed at Owen and you knew that emotion would turn into vengeance. They can’t ostracize you for something like that. They can’t kill you for being empathetic. Can they?
“She never said that,” Abby finally speaks up, “I was there. Owen has it wrong.”
“Abby…” Isaac says in a warning tone, “You better not be lying for her.”
Abby scoffs, “When have I ever lied to you? Never. I am not lying for her. Owen was the one who refused your orders and got us all to leave. He said we go or we die. You shouldn’t be reprimanding her. She told him we had a job to do.”
Isaac halts in his rebuttal, thinking of what his next move should be.
Manny crosses his arms. You’re so pissed, you want to slap him. How dare he go against you and be here to watch Isaac try to accuse you of something like this? What did you ever do to him?
“Is this true?” Isaac questions, standing up to get closer to your slightly hunched over frame.
You don’t even hesitate, knowing this was all going to fall back on Owen. You wanted to see how that ended for him.
“Yes. I knew I could not let you down another time. I would never risk something like that. I’m loyal to you and this cause. I am sorry if I let you down again. I wanted to finish the job, I really did.”
You were an outstanding liar. And now you know, Abby was, too. She also had your back. Which made you like her even more.
Isaac tries to sense any deception but there’s nothing written on either of your faces to indicate that.
“Report back to me in two days,” He says to you with a very stern voice, “and Anderson, I’ll see you tomorrow morning. You’re first patrol out.”
When he’s satisfied with his interrogation, he turns to Manny.
“Well, I guess you were right about one thing.”
Manny furrows his eyebrows at the slightly shorter man, unsure what he’s talking about. “Sir?”
“They are fucking each other, but they aren’t liars,” He turns back to you and Abby, giving you two a kurt nod.
You cross your arms, watching Isaac leave the room and bump into Manny as he does. You don’t even want to deal with him right now, so you wave him out, not saying anything to him. You would deal with him later. Right now, you need a back rub and sleep. And that’s exactly what you intended to get when that door slammed on Manny’s ass on his way out.

Officer Phil Callahan wasn’t often seen in a positive light. Most people viewed him as immature, impulsive, condescending, and a poor excuse for a poor excuse of a police officer. However, no one could accuse him of being a bad brother. He prided himself on always being there for his little bro and his brother knew he could count on him too for anything. As such, Phil was the first person he went to after receiving the beating of all beatings.
So, when Phil opened his front door to see his baby bro leaning against the doorframe for support with his bruised face bearing more resemblance to a blueberry, he dropped everything to help him.
“Holy goddamn shit, Steve! What the hell happened to your face?!” He ushered Steve inside and settled him on the well-worn couch adorning his small living room.
Phil didn’t know what had happened to his brother and he didn’t know who had tried to pulverize his face but he did know whomever had committed this atrocity would pay. He didn’t care if he had to arrest Jonathan Byers again or face off against the powerful Hagan parents to cuff Tommy H in public, he was going to make someone suffer.
His rage only grew as he watched Steve dry heave and vomit for hours on end. Phil aspired to return the beating to the perpetrator that gave Steve the headache of all headaches and physical damage to boot. He took care of Steve through the night by waking him up every four hours, rubbing his back through the dry heaves, and giving him water to keep him hydrated. As soon as he seemed stable enough to be left alone though, Phil was badgering him for the name of the attacker.
He waited just long enough to hear, “Billy Hargrove, but don’t-“ before he was off.
Dressed in his Sheriff’s Deputy uniform with his gun on his hip, he set off to find the sack of shit that hurt his brother. Would this look bad in front of the townspeople? Definitely. Could it hurt his job and his position in the department? Most probably. But he would do what he had to do and probably beat the shit out of that dirtbag in revenge.
As expected, the Californian hippie delinquent was standing by his Camaro in front of the school with a cigarette hanging from his mouth. Phil pulled the patrol care right up to his bumper before storming up to him and shoving him against his own drivers side door. Billy’s cigarette dropped ashes against Phil’s forearm but the rage inside of him burned even more than the fluttering ash. The eyes of nearly the entire student body rested on him but he didn’t let it phase him.
“You roughed up Steve yesterday,” Phil growled.
“You’re crazy. Who the fuck-“
“You’re gonna shut up and listen, buttercup. If you even think about touching Steve again, you kinky shit, I will make your life a living hell. Stay away from my brother.”
“Whatever, man. Did Steve go running home to mommy-“
He didn’t even register his just flying until Billy’s head whipped to the side followed by a pain in his hand. Shit, he just hit a kid. A bitchy one, but a kid nonetheless. “I’m sorr-“
“Is that all you got? I guess you and Stevie-boy both hit like the pansies you are.” Billy sneered at him with blood coating his teeth.
This little prick. Phil wasn’t going to let some high school bully get away with this. First he tries to kill his brother and then he starts talking shit about the both of them? Nope, no siree. Phil pauses but a minute before pulling a pair of handcuffs from his belt and latching them around a struggling Hargove’s wrists. “Okay, you little shit. You’re under arrest for felony assault, attempted murder, and anything else I can throw at you. No school for you today, now get in my car.”
“Are you fucking serious?!” He yelled, bloody spittle spitting from his lips.
“Yep, just like that concussion you gave my brother. Now shut up and stop resisting before I have to shoot you.” He wouldn’t actually shoot this kid but what he didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him.
Phil knew the charges probably wouldn’t stick but he still felt lighter, relieved, that he had gotten at least a little bit of justice for Steve. And if the increasingly panicked murmurings in the backseat brought a smile to his face? Well, no one was any the wiser.

Shovel Talk(s) Part 2
Part One 🦇Part Two🦇Part Three🦇Part Four
Nobody in the history of the world has ever referred to Eddie as jubilant but that was certainly the best word for him currently. Eddie has survived the apocalypse (even if barely), been proven innocent for the murders (the Upside Down exploding into Hawkins helped), and he has a boyfriend. It makes Eddie feel like he's floating.
Steve drops him off, walks him up to the porch, and gives him the sweetest kiss goodbye. Eddie doesn't go inside right away because he wants to watch Steve as he leaves and maybe blow him an exaggerated kiss as he drives away.
"Glad that boy finally did something about how pathetic you were being," Wayne says in lieu of a greeting when Eddie finally slips in the front door and into the living room, plopping himself on the other end of the sofa, dragging one of the throw pillows that came with the couch into his lap to clutch onto. Ground him, because he's still floating.
"I was not being pathetic!" Eddie is scandalized.
Wayne lets out a wistful sigh and says, in a poor imitation of Eddie's voice, "when will Steve end my suffering and notice me."
Eddie lunges across the couch with the pillow in hand, whacking Wayne with every word he speaks, while also trying to dodge Wayne trying to grab the pillow from him, "I do not sound like that!"
Wayne tricks him into thinking the pillow is his only goal and before he realizes what's happening, Wayne has him in a headlock, dragging both of them off the couch as he stands, giving Eddie the gentlest noogie of his life. "I think I know how you sound, hearin' you bellyache for the last 13 years. I've had to hear your relentless sighing and bemoaning about Steve for at least six of 'em."
Eddie beats him with the pillow more until Wayne releases the headlock and then they wrestle until his uncle fakes hurt, so Eddie backs down quickly, and Wayne steals the pillow and beats him back onto the couch until Eddie yields.
"That was dirty fighting, old man," Eddie says when he finally stops laughing enough to catch his breath.
"What was it you used to tell me, when I said you were fightin' dirty?" Wayne asks, "Scrappy."
"Oh, is that what you think you are?" Eddie swings at Wayne's knee half-heartedly. Wayne flings himself across the room and into the recliner there like Eddie shoved him. "Oh, you big baby."
"You're awfully callus about bullying your old man," Wayne chuckles and settles into the recliner, popping the leg rest out. "Now, tell me about your boy. He was a gentleman to you?"
Eddie pouts, "Unfortunately, yes. One chaste kiss and then he was off."
"Smart boy."
Eddie narrows his eyes. "What's the supposed to mean?"
"Means I scare him."
"What."
"That a question or a statement, son?" Wayne looks awfully smug over in his chair.
"What do you mean you scare him?"
"Just gave him the good ole father shovel talk. Y'know? Hurt my boy and I'll make you disappear," Wayne says.
"You terrible old man!" Eddie throws his pillow at him but Wayne bats it out of the air. "I'm going to die a virgin and it'll be your fault!"
Wayne just shrugs. "Fine by me."
"You are the worst."
-
Eddie can't make his leg stop jiggling. He feels sorry for Nancy, who is sharing the bench seat with him because he's sure that it's shaking the whole bench. He's filled with energy and doesn't know what to do with it.
Robin sits across from them, finishing up the last of her milkshake as they wait for the to go order they're going to drop off for Steve, who is stuck at Family Video for another five hours. He was supposed to be here, too, but Keith called him asking him to cover and he'd said yes. Eddie wishes he hadn't. This was Lunch Date Day.
"Are you still upset Steve took an extra shift?" Nancy asks. "Even though you know he's just going to spend the extra money on you?"
Eddie's pouting, voice whiny as he says, "I'd rather he be heeeerrrrrrrre."
"It's disgusting how in love you are," Robin says, shoving the now completely empty milkshake glass away.
Eddie's leg stops shaking because he full on freezes. "Uh."
"Are you afraid of saying the L-word? You are not subtle in showing it," Nancy says, ever the traitor, "but luckily Steve's just as smitten."
"You don't know that," Eddie says, arguing for the sake of arguing. He doesn't believe he likes Steve more than Steve likes him. He's pretty sure they're on an even playing field.
"Yeah, I do. I threatened to shoot him if he hurt you and he didn't even flinch. He'd have taken the bullet for you."
"You did what!?" Robin yelps. She's looking at Nancy like she's grown a second head.
"I didn't even bring a gun with me! Besides, Steve knows I didn't mean it," Nancy says with a wave of her hand, "it was just an obligation thing. You have to threaten your best friend's significant other. The whole conversation was like, 30 seconds tops."
"I'm your best friend!?" Eddie gasps, faking surprise. They have become good friends. She'd taken it upon herself to make sure he did get to graduate with Robin and herself, and they did form a sort of friendship from that. Also, from being the collective third wheel to Steve&Robin, which is enough to make people come together. Neither of them truly thinks of the other as their best friend, but it's fun to joke about their own Capitol with a P Platonic Friendship around Steve and Robin, as they become rather bitchy and defensive about their own friendship.
It's hilarious every time.
"Well, it's you or Argyle, and I don't think Jonathan wants to share his best friend, so...."
"Cold, Wheeler. Cold."
Nancy rolls her eyes and looks over to Robin. "Are you telling me you haven't given Eddie the shovel talk?"
Robin frowns as she thinks before her eyes widen in shock and she gasps, "I think I accidentally gave Steve a shovel talk instead."
Eddie bursts out laughing, "Robin, how the fuck did you end up accidentally giving a shovel talk to your own best friend?"
"I just told him to, like, be careful with you."
"Careful with me?" Eddie asks, a little incredulously. "What the fuck does that mean?"
Robin is going on the defensive, now. Eddie can see that in the way she squares her shoulders before saying, "it was said after your first date! Steve's had a lot of those, and you hadn't. I just- I dunno, wanted him to see the importance of that."
"So, what, you told him you'd shoot him if he hurt me, like Wheeler here?"
"No! I never said I'd hurt him for hurting you. I just said that he should be careful with you because, as your first boyfriend, if, and I did mean if, you don't work out, it's like... he's setting the precedent for how boyfriends should treat you. What you'll put with with, y'know?"
"That's sweet-" Nancy starts but Eddie's speaking over her just a quickly.
"Robin, that's stupid. I'm a fucking adult. If I'm not being treated how I want to be treated, I'll tell Steve," Eddie huffs. "You can trust that I say what I mean."
"Can I?" Robin shoots back. "Just like when you promised to get the fuck outta dodge and instead went on a suicide mission that ended very, very badly for you?"
"That was different, Buckley," Eddie hisses at her, sitting up straight to lean more across the table, trying to get in her face, "there was a lot of shit happening, and no way out that I saw. It's called trauma!"
It seems that a defensive Robin goes straight for the jugular because she hisses back, "No, actually, I think it's called survivors guilt and suicidal ideation. You know what, I should be giving you a shovel talk! 'Cause I don't fully trust you to not hurt Steve, either by lying or running once things get rough. You don't-"
"OKAY!" Nancy shouts, startling both of them into silence with one word. "We are in an, admittedly very empty, diner but still a very public diner, so let's not. Robin, you're not Steve's mom, it's not on you to look out for who is going to hurt him or-"
"You do not get to speak to me about hurting him," Robin points an accusing finger at Nancy. For all the anger she seemed to have for Eddie just now, he can see that it's almost doubled for Nancy. "I wasn't Steve's friend when you hurt him, but don't think I don't know every detail."
He knows this story, too. Had gotten it out of Steve one night, weeks ago now, when they'd been passing a joint back and forth on Eddie's bed. Before Eddie can pipe up, not that he knows what he'd say anyway, the waitress returns with the to go box and the check.
"It's my turn to pay," Nancy says, snatching the check before it touches the table, following hot on the waitress's heels to the register.
"Ugh," Robin flings herself against the back of the bench, both hands coming up to hide her face. From beneath her hiding place, she says, "I'm sorry, Eddie. What I said was unfair, and uncalled for."
"We're cool, Robin," Eddie says, "I forget how much of a buffer for our anxieties Steve is until we all hang out without him. He's able to defuse an argument before it happens."
"Oh, don't word it like that," Robin drops her hands and slides out of the booth, scooping up the to go box in the process," it makes Steve sound like the emotionally mature one."
They all climb into Nancy's car and apologies are said but Eddie feels like the next time Steve can't make it, they'll all bail on the weekly lunch. They're just a bunch of traumatized young adults and Steve is the heart of them, the person that bonds them outside the shit they went through. And maybe they should figure out a better way to deal with this than just pretending it didn't happen but- well, the world just kept moving on and they had to either move with it or get left behind.
-
It's two weeks after Eddie and Steve accidentally told the Hellfire crew they were a couple, which is why Eddie is not expecting it when Erica and Lucas corner him. He was expecting to be cornered by someone last week.
They'd been taking longer to pack up than usual, and that should have tipped Eddie off that something was up.
"Munson," Erica says in her no-nonsense voice, hands on her hips, face unamused. For sharing no biology with Steve, Eddie finds the resemblance uncanny. "I need you to understand that you might be my Dungeon Master, but Scoops Troop will always trump that, so if you fuck this up with Steve, you will have to answer to me."
Eddie gives a soft grin in response, amused, "no worries, Lady Applejack. I have no plans to fuck this up."
Erica's eyes flick to Lucas, then back to Eddie. "I mean it, Munson. I have it on good authority that sometimes you hurt people and then you don't try to right it. You just move on-"
"Erica, stop it," Lucas says, voice a little panicked.
But Erica continues, because nothing ever seems to phase her, "and Steve and Lucas are alike in that way. So just know that if you hurt Steve like you hurt Lucas-"
"Erica!"
"I will end you. I will ruin your life, Munson-"
"Erica, STOP!" Lucas finally steps forward, yanking on Erica's arm to get her to stop talking. It makes her stumble a bit before rounding on Lucas. "Stop it."
"No!" Erica glares at her brother as she removes his hand from her arm. "Go outside if you don't want to hear it."
They stare each other down and Eddie's not sure what he should be doing. Should he step in? He grew up an only child, is this normal sibling behavior? But he doesn't have to step in because Lucas huffs and storms out of the house, front door clicking softly behind him even though Eddie expected him to slam the door.
"Now, you," Erica whirls around to Eddie, "do you understand what I'm saying?"
Eddie does not. He's fairly certain he's getting a shovel talk from a twelve-year-old and while amusing, he senses there's more to it than just his relationship with Steve. "You're threatening me on Steve's behalf?"
Erica scoffs and rolls her eyes like she thinks Eddie's an idiot. He's starting to think he might be. "Yes, I am but also more. Your relationship has been the hot topic these days, and my brother brought up a good point but he's too nice to say it, so I will. When school starts, if Steve wants to take you to a basketball game, even though they fall on Hellfire night, you postpone the damn game and you go. No matter how much you hate basketball or jocks or- or... other things." She loses steam at the end, eyes flicking to the door.
"What?" Eddie is even more confused, "I don't hate basketball. And if Steve asks, I'm not going to say no, okay? I care about Steve. A lot."
Erica frowns, which contradicts the words that leave her mouth. "Good. That's good. I'd hate to ruin you, Munson."
"Is there... more to it?"
It takes Erica maybe three seconds to decide what she's going to say. Just long enough for her to look at the door, then back to Eddie. "You owe my brother an apology."
"Uh, sure, I'll apologize but for what?"
"Remember the basketball championship and the last session of the Vecna campaign that you wouldn't postpone so Lucas could play? You never apologized," Erica crosses her arms, another move reminiscent of Steve, before continuing, "You didn't apologize, and Lucas thought that it was because he's a jock, and you hate jocks. But now you're dating Steve and he's a jock. So, if you don't hate jocks, Lucas thinks you just hate him."
"What, no, I don't hate Lucas!"
"Then tell him that!" Erica glares at him, "and let this be a little lesson for you. Going forward if you hurt either of my brothers, intentionally or not, you can kiss the tires on your van goodbye."
Eddie tucks his metaphorical tail between his legs and goes outside to apologize, because Lucas deserves to hear it.
Then, once the Sinclairs are gone and Eddie's back in his room, he runs through every conversation he can remember having with Steve. Has he dismissed things Steve liked too easily, too often? Has he said anything offhandedly that could be taken the wrong way without explanation?
Eddie's was an only child and didn't have to grow up worrying about anyone but himself. He made himself an outcast and shunned the 'norm' by choice. Doing so didn't exactly let him learn the social graces of patience and understanding.
It's eye opening, to learn that a decision he made months ago without a second thought has been hurting Lucas this whole time.
Has he ever done that to Steve, and not known it?
-
Steve's been distant these past few days and no matter how many times Eddie asks, Steve's answer doesn't change. I'm fine he says. I'm fine. Just fine. It's fine.
Except nothing feels fine. And Eddie doesn't understand the sharp change. They've got a date planned for tonight. Neither of them has specifically said it out loud, because it's sappy and stupid, but it marks three full months as official boyfriends. So, they've got a date planned, but Eddie's worried how it might end.
Eddie's been floating these last three months, but he suddenly feels grounded. He can't fix whatever happened if Steve won't tell him what it was! And in the absence of actual answers, Eddie's mind has invented his own.
Steve's realized that Eddie's not good enough for him. Steve's realized that he's actually straight, but thanks for the experimentation. Steve's found someone else and is working on how to break up with Eddie without blowing up their friend group in the process.
And Eddie hates himself for thinking these things. For projecting his own insecurities onto a version of Steve that doesn't exist. Eddie's gotten to know Steve.
Or he thought he had.
But now he's pulling away. And the only person he knows he can talk to about dating Steve is Nancy and he can't do that! He can't just go to Nancy's house and ask 'so when you were dating Steve and it was all going down the drain, was he distant or is that just a me thing?'
Fuck. Fuck!
He runs his hands through his hair and regrets it as his curls tangle around the rings on his hands. He should brush his hair, be getting ready, but he's procrastinating that because he can't decide if he's going all out, making himself look his best to see if it'll bring some life back into Steve's eyes when he looks at him, or if he shouldn't try at all and see if Steve even notices he's wearing the same thing he wore yesterday.
And it's bullshit that he's even thinking about testing Steve. Not two months ago he and Robin had argued in that diner about whether he's talk to Steve about these kind of things or not and now he was kind of proving her right. Except not, because he did try to talk! Steve just didn't answer when he questioned, and you can't really build a conversation from nothing.
Fuck! He should have known this would happen. That he would fall in love and Steve wouldn't love him back because that's always been his lot in life.
Oh.
Oh no.
He's been avoiding thinking it because once it's been thought, once it's solidified in his mind, it's true. And now he's thought it!
He's in love with Steve Harrington.
And isn't it just fuckin' peachy that this realization doesn't accompany happy feelings. He's in love and can't even be happy about it because he's so fucking sure his relationship is ending tonight.
#steddie#my fic#hmmm less happy about this part but its been a goddamn STRUGGLE#i didn't want people to give eddie a shovel talk but Erica does what she wants sooo....#also had to kinda force the scene with robin eddie and nancy in the diner because i wanted nancy to explain her side#considering how many of you were so mad at her and just over here like#oh no#cause the first part was just in steves pov and he cant read minds#anyway#have this and the third part will be out soon

Hello dear, you know why i'm here already.
We know for a fact that Casper never got to be intimate with anyone before meeting MC and for that precise reason, I'd like to know if you would you kindly give me some thoughts about Casper and MC's first time ?
Will our sweet Reaper be treated gently or will he be manhandled (gender neutral) roughly as payback for his sassy attitude and multiple murder attempts ?
- 🪰
I knew you would be here, 🪰. It was only a matter of time. You got me into this mess and you will dig the hole deeper and deeper. Lucky for you, I love this man and want to get him pregnant. His first time is really dependent on MC. My personal bias, however, is that MC should treat him gently... but keep up the teasing.
Imagine pinning him to the bed, hands on either side of his head as you lean down to kiss him over and over until he's breathless. He never knew that kisses could make it so hard to breath. Everything about this is new to him.
Slipping your knee between his legs without touching him, letting him explore and do what comes naturally as he teaches himself how to hump against you. The soft teasing as he discovers something new; how he can't stop once he starts.
How you can, eventually, figure out how to open up his shirt enough to slip your hand inside and lay your fingers across his chest. You could tease him about how hot his skin is, how much it burns and how heavy his heartbeat is. Press and pinch at his nipples to show him they feel pleasure like any other part of him.
Bully him until he can't take it anymore and makes an absolute mess of his clothing. Tease him about how cute it is that he couldn't wait but that he has to take it all off now. To finally get a look at him without and confirm if every part of him really is as large as he likes to brag.
When he asks you to take yours off to, deny him with a smile. Tell him that tonight is all about teaching him, so to lie back and learn. Everything with the same sass he's come to expect from his sunshine/nightmare. All the while calling his real name and telling him how good he's being.
He'll be putty in your hands by the time you finally get below the belt. He never imagined all the ways that mortals have conceived of to have sex, but he'll get to experience them all soon enough. Maybe your hand and mouth to start. Just enough to teach him the basics so he can get used to asking to be bullied. After all, he is very much the type to need to be picked on. Perhaps you'll even teach him about using his butt by slipping a few fingers in there.
I think the first sexual encounter doesn't involve penetrative sex because he needs to learn to beg for that first. >w> Eventually, he'll learn how to beg for a lot of things.
The first time with penetration? Well, we all know he's going to be the most bottom babygirl ever. With lots of hand holding and telling your little reaper how well he's doing. How pregnant you're going to get him and how many soul babies there will be
It shall be a wonderful night all around. ehehe

Angsty Headcannons
Mrs. Arellano used to sing “Rockin’ Robin” to her son when he was a little boy to make him laugh. It was a whole year after his death before she could hum the song to herself again without breaking down.
Vance Hopper was A Problem, but the thought of no one really mourning the kid makes the arcade employees sad, so they retire his favorite pinball machine and hang a small, simple plaque next to it that says “In Memory of Pinball Vance Hopper.”
The Yamadas hold out hope that Bruce is alive right up until the police knock on their door. Mr. Yamada solemnly and despondently goes back and takes down all the fliers he put up so his family doesn’t have to keep seeing them every time they go out.
Finney waits until what would’ve been Robin’s 14th birthday to see Texas Chainsaw Massacre, as a way to celebrate and honor the boy. It’s a punch to the gut every time Fin glances next to him at the empty space where his friend should be, but Fin gets through it. He likes to think Robin is proud of him somewhere out there.
Gwen has anxiety attacks every time Finney leaves the house. She tells no one, but they do eventually get better.
Finn receives one more phone call that he never tells anyone about, not even his sister. It’s a female voice pushing through the static to say “I’m so proud of you.” It’s the clearest one, and Finn is 100% sure it was his mother.
Griffin’s family moves away as soon as they bury their son. He was their only child and it’s just too painful to stay in a town where there’s nothing left for them and too many reminders. Finney lays a coin on his grave every holiday, just to show that Griffin hasn’t been completely forgotten.
A new paperboy eventually has to take over Billy’s route. Old Mrs. Goldstein over on Maple Street misses the way Billy would deliver her paper directly to her because he knew she uses a walker to get around. They had struck up a friendship and she had even invited Billy in for tea once.
As he gets older, Finney is able to admit and recognize in retrospect that he probably had a crush on Robin. It’s a very bittersweet feeling, young puppy-love lost and friendships snuffed out in their prime. It’s the one thing Gwen doesn’t tease him about.
Finney invites the Yamadas to a baseball game when they’re feeling up to it so they can watch him hit a ceremonial home-run over the fence during a moment of silence for Bruce. Finney retrieves the ball and gives it to Amy.
Gwen has a dream that Vance stops the Grabber from getting to her. She likes to think that Vance is protecting her from nightmares as a thank-you for her help.
People still talk about the day that Robin Arellano handed Moose his ass. There’s some worry that Moose will start bullying again now that Robin’s gone, but Moose doesn’t. The murders seemed to have taken the fight out of everyone.
Finney gives his first son the middle name “Robin.” Donna understands why and allows it. Her sweet husband will never forget the skinny little Hispanic kid who saved his life in more ways than one, and Donna would never ask him to.

MYSTERY TO ME 1

MYSTERY TO ME 2
x--
You stare out of the window of your room to the endless horizon when your eyes dart to the field where Wednesday was shooting perfect arrows with Xavier. You've never known what love feels like, fair enough since every school you went to, you automatically became THE outcast. Love? Surely not something you'd have experienced.
It was bad, really. Bad when you were given judging looks, bad when you were alone in the forest standing in front of a dead body, your nails painted red, painted with the bully's blood.
For the first time that day you felt like you would lose your mind, because since then everytime someone triggered you, you would lose conscience and when you come back to your senses, you have had already killed someone. It was hard to explain, hard to believe even.
So you tried recording yourself while facing just another bully in another school and when you later on watched the camcorder, you saw a beast.. a beast which was you. Red eyes, scary aura and a murderous look.
You found out that your parents tried everything to keep their secret from you thinking that maybe if you never know, you might get out of it soon.
But truth sure comes to light one way or the other.
You thought there was no cure to this, until last night when Wednesday had told you to tag along with her to investigate the Nightshades case. You both were on your way to Xavier's shed where he kept his paintings.. rather scandalous paintings. The night was darker than usual which made you uneasy so you clung to Wednesday causing her to snap her head towards you.
"Dear Wednesday please don't slap away my hands now. It's scary you know." You gulped as you looked at the skies and then at front. Wendesday pursed her lips as she saw your scared face.
"Too bad. I should have brought Bianca instead." She said and looked forwards. You looked at her in disbelief, "Why do I remember someone saying that they even hate to breathe the same air as Bianca?" She kept quite, not because she was speechless but rather.. that was her way of rolling eyes.
"Here we are. If you don't want to come inside, you can stay here." She said as she removed your hands from her arm.
Which unexpectedly made you a little sad. You scoffed, "Isn't going inside safer than staying outside in the wild here?" You commented and walked straight inside as soon as she unlocked the door using her shenanigans until your eyes went wide looking at a monster standing right in front of you with hungry eyes.
In a span of seconds you lost your conscience only to become your beast self again but before you could encounter the monster, Wednesday came from behind attacked it.
You then saw her and the moment you tried to attack her from behind, luckily she escaped away but with a scratch in her forearm. She shouted your name, "_________ wake up! The monster's gone, it was only a painting!"
Slowly your visions became blurry and then turned to clearer. You saw Wednesday and at once ran towards her when you saw blood dripping from her forearm. "I-I'm so sorry Wednesday, I didn't want to hurt you at all." Your eyes became teary, why in the world would you attack her?
She sighed lightly, "It's just a scratch. Don't give me that look."
"I'm really sorry I didn't want to do that at all.." Your breathing became faster, "First aid.. does Xavier keep a first aid box here?" You started searching everywhere frantically but halted at once when Wednesday said, "Wait." She cocked her eyebrows, "How do you know it was you who attacked me and not the monster? As far as I know.. and if you've been honest with me, you said that you know nothing when you switch on your beast mode?"
You looked at her and then looked away to think about the same, "Wednesday I've never once lied to you.. but, ah.." You shut your eyes close as you tried to recall what happened moments ago.
"But what?" For Wednesday this looked just another mystery that increased her curiosity. Even though she liked mysteries and puzzles but this one... she's feeling different about this one.
She's feeling something else, a feeling of a parent looking at their child ride the bike for the first time. A feeling of concern. She has never felt liked this ever before, you were making her feel them.
"But I suddenly remember my name being called out! it felt like a wake up call, it felt like someone just woke me up from sleep and in my blurred vision I saw your terrified face, it was a face that a victim would make in front of the attacker, not a friend." You said and then looked straight into her eyes, "Which also brings me to the question, why didn't you counter-attack me? I clearly had harmed you."
The question felt like a dagger into Wednesday's chest, unexpectedly ofcourse, it wasn't like she had any feelings for you that your thought of her attacking you would hurt her.. right?
She looked away, "Then we clearly would have had to keep on fighting and that would waste my time. Speaking of which, we should go now."
--
When you looked outside the window, the words of Wednesday stormed your head, "She was lying, she's not the type to take blows." You murmured.
You rested your chin on the bedside, "Would things get better if I move again, I don't want to see the face Wednesday made yesterday ever again." A teardrop rolled down your cheeks.
Your parents were ridiculously rich which might explain the fact of you getting away with all sorts of murders you had committed so far. If you were to request your mother to move you again, they'd do it in a heartbeat.
"That's right, I should just leave. Wednesday deserves better friends." You said to yourself and curled yourself up in a blanket in a corner.
---
"What are you doing here Enid?" Wednesday looked through her dark long lashes at the ever so energetic and cheerful girl in front of her. "Well the thing is that ___________ texted me and said that she/he can't make it."
"Why?" She asked with her darkening gaze. "Stomach ache I was told." Enid answered. Wednesday frowned because there it was, the feeling she felt last day, she was feeling concerned.
"I see. Then let us go." She said.
After two or so hours of texting Enid requesting her to go with Wednesday in place of you, you were getting restless already. "They must be having fun going on with the investigation, well at least Enid won't harm her." You sighed deeply when you jolted up at the sudden knock on the door.
"_____________, are you inside?" That was Wednesday's voice. And even before you could think, your body reacted quickly and you opened the door immediately.
"I thought you were having stomachache.. the door opened faster."
You nervously chuckled, "Oh well, I'm better now so.. yeah. What are you here for though? How did your investigation go?" You asked while eyeing the packet in her hand.
"We didn't go to investigate. We were at the infirmary. Here take the medicine." She forwarded the packet.
You were surprised to say the least but then you contorted your eyebrows, "Two hours at the infirmary?"
She looked at you with an expression you couldn't quite tell what it meant. "You kept the track of the time?"
You stuttered, "Uh-uh yeah sort of, I had nothing to do any wa--"
Before you could finish, she spoke, "The thing is I was waiting for you but instead Enid came approximately ten minutes ago and apologized for being late because she was on date with Ajax."
You gulped, did she kept waiting that long? She could've texted- oh right, she refuses to be the slave of technology.
"Uhm.. I'm sorry." You had nothing except to apologize to her, which.. felt so shitty because since yesterday you only felt sorry towards her. And maybe a little bit of something else which you weren't sure of. It was happening to you for the first time afterall.
"Oh I'm so sorry again, you've been at my door since the starting, please come inside." You said and turned around to let her in when she grabbed your wrist. "I hate it everytime you say sorry to me. Can you please stop doing that?" You weren't sure what to say because a train of emotions just hit you, with her doing something unexpected, to her saying something unexpected.
You shook your head, "About that I'm sor- I mean I'll be careful about it."
She then looked down at the place where she had held your wrist and you too shifted your focus to that, all you wanted was to grab her hands back but at that very instant she let go off it causing you to feel a sting in your heart.
She looked up and then noticed how empty your room looked like, earlier when she had come to your room she didn't like how much stuffy your room looked like, filled with all sorts of stuffs and posters, but now, it just seemed so much emptier.
Then she spotted cardboard boxes and trunks. "What's all this? Are you moving to another room or decided to sell things on thrift shop?" She asked you while looking around.
You smiled dryly, "None. I'm just going to change schools."
She shifted her focus from your photoframe that you decided to pack later, to you at once. "Why?" She asked you, even though she tried to hide her surprise, you could sense that from the tone of her voice.
"I don't know... I just don't want to hurt anyone." You shrugged. She walked towards you and stopped once your faces were mere inches away, "Whom did you hurt? Weems?"
You chuckled, "Ugh no!" Then you seized your chuckle with a subtle but sad smile, "You." You gulped.
Wednesday liked the way you chuckled, it made her want to make that expression too. About your answer, she didn't like that.
"Then where are you planning to go?" She asked you.
"Why? Are you planning to send me letters?" You said jokingly.
"No, you said that you don't want to hurt anyone, then.. will you shifting to another school solve your problems? Will you stop killing people?"
Your blinked as you looked away. "Only if it was under my control."
"That's right. And I am sure you were sent here just to do that. To gain control over your powers. Your parents made the right decision ________, don't go." She said.
You sighed, even though you wanted to put meaning behind her 'don't go' , you knew she was saying it just for the sake of it. "I'm not saying just because I have to ______________. " You frowned, "Does your psychic abilities gives you access to people's thoughts too? And don't you try to talk me out of it when you call your own parents evil people trying to pull your strings from afar. Remember?"
She looked at you amusingly, "It's not my psychic abilities, just that your face is like an open book so easy to read. About the second part, I have no comment."
"I am not easy to read Wednesday, it's just that you know me better than everyone else."
"What?"
"What?" Oh shoot! Did you just confess like that? You cleared your throat, "Uh- uh I mean, you are good at reading people's faces. That's what I'm saying. You managed to figure out what I'm thinking when it's really hard for others to do so."
"I.. am.. not good at reading people's faces ____________." She said slowly and firmly.
"What?"You blinked.
"People call me emotionless apparently because I am not good at reading room. They throw a fit when I don't seem to get what they want to say through their expressions. I had a tough time staying close to people, that is why I prefer solitude." She answered with a stoic expression.
"I see.. but you seemed to do well in my case?" You said with a half smile.
"Which is weird.. I know, but do you know what is weirder?" She asked while folding her arms.
"What?"
"You figuring out me. I don't remember anyone understanding me as much as you do since I lack emotions." She looked down for a split second, "You bother me."
You got confused, "... like in a good way?"
She started walking towards you with steps that felt like they would leave a mark on the floor, you stumbled back and sat down on the bed while she kept decreasing the distance in front of you. "Can you read me now?" You said with a shaky voice as your breathing became faster.
She leaned closer and closer, "Yes. Do you think I want the same thing as you do?" You felt so enchanted and dazed when you looked at her lips which resembled the dark shadows lurking in the forest that night. "Yes.. I guess?" You weren't sure what you were saying but if it was an invitation for a kiss, then yes, i guess?
"You're right." And those were the words you heard before you felt her soft lips against yours. You grabbed her nape to come closer for a deeper kiss. It was so slow yet it felt electrifying, it defied Wednesday's knowledge of electricity for sure.
At that moment you felt nothing but staying beside Wednesday forever and maybe.. maybe you now have an answer as to why you returned to yourself that night when Wednesday called out to you.
Maybe Wednesday was the last piece to your puzzle, maybe she was the answer to your question and you were more than willing to search for answers with her by your side.
Because to Wednesday too, you were another mystery that intrigued her.. in a good way.
"Don't go." She breathed as you both parted for air.
"I won't." You said and tilted your head to kiss her again. You felt her smile on your lips.
Which was rare and you were in for it.

Hey sweetie not sure if you take requests but imagine this rafe x ghost face reader smut
She’s shy introverted sweet and awkward and she's a pouge. (btw she's heavily obsessed with rafe)
Rafe on the other hand is cold, rude and a bully towards her since she's a pouge (he's got a crush on her but she doesn't know)
Reader basically kills the girls that flirt with or date him.
A/N: Hey hun! I do take request so keep them coming! I love the way your mind works. The idea of reader being just as if not more unhinged than him is amazing. I hope you like it!
Bloody Love
Warnings: Mention of blood, murder, stalking. Reader is unhinged and will take anyone thats in her way out.

part 2
Living in Kildare was perfect if you were a Kook. They were rich, popular, and had no worries in the world. Oh and did you mention RICH. Being on the poor side of the island wasn’t that bad. Everyone was nice to each other and helped out. You’ve never once felt less than when it came to other pogues. The same thing can’t be said about the kooks. The war between kooks and pogues never seemed as important to anyone but Rafe.
Him and his friends love to terrorize every pogue they come in contact with. On countless occasions you’ve been there to witness their rage and hatred. Hanging out with friends? Not anymore you are trying to break up a fight. Trying to get food? Nope you’re being corned in as they hurl insults at you. One time they even threw old moldy food at you as you were walking home from work.
To say that Rafe hates any pogue he sees would be an understatement. Which is why your obsession with him is so bad. You can’t seem to be drawn to him any chance you get. At parties you find your way to where he’s selling. Always saving up some money to buy something from him. Sometimes it’s coke but usually it's weed, not really liking the way coke makes you lose full control.
“What the fuck do you want?” It’s the same way he greets you everytime. “Can I get a half?” With a roll of his eyes, he grabs a bag that had bud in it. You watch as he gathers a half for you, staring at his hands. “$120.” He holds a hand out waiting for you to drop the money in his hands. “What? It was never that much before.” Everyone that's sitting is watching the two of you. He smirks at you leaning back on the couch with his arms crossed. “What’s the problem? Too fucking poor to even get some weed? How fucking pathetic do you have to be to come here and not even have cash.” Everyone laughs.
Your cheeks blush, uncomfortable with all the attention on you. The embarrassment is starting to eat at you as they laugh at you. “Sorry it’s just.” He interrupts you. “It's just what? You’re some disgusting ass pogue who thinks she deserves a hand out. Do us all a favor and just fuck off. Dumb ass bitch.” A round of laughs echo in your ears again. Tears form in your eyes as you back away. “Yea sorry.” You leave before he could say anything else.
As you left you heard a girl giggle and Rafe speak. “I know. She’s so fucking weird.” He tells the girl that’s now sitting on his lap. You see as he drags a hand up and down her leg, placing kisses on her neck. He eyes find yours in the crowd, he sends a wink your way. You can’t help the anger that you feel at that moment. He embarrassed you once again and now he’s all over some girl. You just don’t understand why he cares so much that you have no money.
You sit in your car outside the party, forcing yourself not to cry about him. When you were younger he wasn’t like this. He even helped you once after you scraped your knee from falling off your bike. He changed for the worse towards the end of middle school and the beginning of highschool. It was his friend and those girls that threw themselves at him. There was no way that he would actually act like that.
You see Rafe and the girl walk out the party and get into his truck. Starting up your car you follow him on the road. You aren’t sure what you are doing, you just know you need to see where he’s going. He parks outside a nice house that isn’t his, it has to be hers. You torture yourself by watching as they race inside the house. Sharing kisses as she tries to open the door to let them in. Your heart breaks at the scene in front of you.
What does she have that you don’t? Money that’s for sure. Maybe she’s more beautiful than you and that’s why he ignores you. Your self spiral lasts an hour. A whole hour where you sat in your car looking at the windows to see if you could see them. It wasn’t until he was leaving the house with a stupid smirk that your composure snapped. He doesn’t see how they are bad for him, he’ll stay stuck in this dark spiral his whole life. You have to save him from it.
Getting out of the car you make your way to your truck and take out a tire wrench. You're in autopilot mode, banging on the door till she opens it. “What are you doing here?” She shrieks at you but you're already pushing inside of the house. “Get out or I’m calling the-” You raise your arm, the tire wrench swinging down on her. A crack can be heard as it hits her skull. She lets out a scream trying to run away but you hit her again causing her to fall on the ground.
She’s crawling in the hallway, letting out little sobs as she tries to get away from you. There's a blood trail from where you first hit her to where she is on the floor right now. Her tears only intensify as you walk closer to her. She turns around backing up from you. “Please don’t do this. I promise I won’t say anything. Please, you don't need to kill me.” Her pleas for her life should stop you from continuing. Then you remember how she laughed at you and how she was just with Rafe. You kneel down next to her laughing as she cries. “Yeah I actually do.” The next blow to her head has her out cold, blood pooling around her.
You should leave now but you can’t stop. Your anger being released for the first time in years. When you stop and get up you can see your reflection in the mirror. You have her blood all over you. Head to toe she’s on you. You walk out the house leaving her there to be found later and get into your car. Not noticing the headlights down the road watching.
It felt good after. Washing her off of you was like a prize for all your work. One step closer to saving Rafe from those who deceive him. Which is what you decide is best for him. He needs protecting since he can’t do it himself. He’ll learn to appreciate you. The news of that girl's death was the talk of the island. Everyone was scared of going out thinking they would be next.
Each week gave you a new reason to protect him. The week after the first girl you were at another party. Some part of you is still seeking him out. The masochist in you wants the pain of the rejection he gives you. You didn’t have to get far to get that feeling. There he was leaving a bedroom at the top of the stairs. Some random girl trailing out behind him with her hands feeling him up. That red rage you felt comes back, ready to scream your head off from his sheer stupidity.
“Gonna ask for weed you can’t pay for again?” He’s invading your space, your back hitting the wall. “Bet you don’t even have money on you right now. Willing to sell yourself just to get free drugs.” He wants to see you cry, get you to break for him. Your eyes gloss over, looking at the girl waiting for him. Rafe looks back to see what you are looking at. He laughs really hard in your face. “Don’t tell me you really think that will be you.” The girl behind him laughs, getting closer to place a hand on his back. “Come on Rafey. Leave her alone, she's no one.”
Your eyes meet his hoping he’ll say anything. All he does is start to walk away with her, looking at you to say one last thing. “Exactly. A nobody.”
That night you showed her how much of a nobody she is. Following her with your car as she walks home alone. Stupid bitch you think. She finally notices you following her and that’s when the fun begins. She tries to run but can’t get too far with your car speeding up. She hits the hood of your car with a bang and you step on the breaks. Sending her flying on the road. She tries to get away but the pain radiating her body doesn't let her get far.
Stepping out the car you grab the knife you brought with you. Holding it as you get closer to her. All she can see is the shadow of your outline from the headlights, the knife shining in the light. “Please, don’t do this.” She holds a hand up, hoping this is all a mistake and you accidentally hit her. “But I do. This nobody is going to make sure girls like you can’t hurt him anymore.” She cries out asking who you're talking about but the knife is already down. The motion repeated until she’s not breathing anymore. Satisfied you leave her on the road, making your way home to clean up.
The cycle continues for weeks, each victim begging to be spared. The Sheriff’s department has been going crazy trying to find out who was doing this. Theories have been thrown around on who it could be. Some think it’s just some psycho from the mainland since it’s only a weekly thing. Never happening more than once. That was until he pushed you past your limits. He had been more ruthless than he normally is.
It’s like he’s actively searching you out to make your life a living hell. He comes into the bookstore you work at. Throwing around the books and leaving the place a mess so you have to clean it all up. He watches as you clean it all up, looking up and down your body. He sometimes wishes you weren’t a pogue, things would be easier. As soon as the thought crosses his mind he has to pack it away. “God, you can’t even do your own job correctly. No wonder you’re so fucking poor.”
He likes seeing you so submissive for him. Never talking back to him no matter how much he degrades you. Some sick part of him getting off on the control he seems to have on you. It’s one of the reasons he’s always so mean to you, the other being he wants to put on a show for everyone. “I am doing my job.” You murmur picking up a book to put it away. “The fuck did you just say?”
“Nothing.” You keep picking things up and putting them away. You hear him get a call and talk to the other person. “Yeah baby I’ll be right there. Was just taking care of a few things. Why don’t you wear that lingerie I got you?” You meet his eyes when you look at him, his blue eyes already watching you. With a sly smile he walks towards the door. “Bye pogue. Got this hot girl I need to get to.” He’s out the door before you can answer. That was four hours ago.
After your shift you spent some time driving around trying to find his car. You used the tracker you put on his truck to find it. Seeing it parked in front of a house you parked down the street waiting for him to leave. Leading to right now. Rafe walks to his truck on the phone as the girl watches from the doorway. The same scene you’ve been watching for weeks.
Opening the glove compartment you grab your knife and mask you started to wear. You get out once his truck speeds off and you sneak to the back of the yard. Two weeks into all of this you made a habit of scaring them. The rush you felt when they stared at you in horror was satisfactory. You throw pebbles at different windows, carefully watching as the girl searches her house.
The back door was open so you made your way inside. Making sure not to close it so she knows she’s not alone. “Hello?” She calls out from the living room when she sees the kitchen door open. She realized how fucked she was, the news couldn’t stop talking about the murders and now here she is. In a house all alone with the door open even though she thought everything was locked. Getting scared she goes to run to her room so she can call the cops. Only to be greeted with the sight of you in her way.
You swipe the knife at her, nicking her arm as she blocks you. A scream rings in your ears as you chase her around the house. Each time you do this it gets longer, letting yourself enjoy the power you feel. You should probably be more careful, the longer they take the sooner you can get caught. Yet you can’t seem to care at all.
The girl ran into her room, closing the door only to be blocked by your body. “Oh no you don’t” You push the door open causing her to fall on her back. It reminds you of the first time as she backs up. Her hands and feet slipped on the floor from the blood. You walk up to her, getting down on the floor to crawl on her. Your body weight holds her down, her sobs shaking you both.
You lean over to get closer to her face. “Maybe this time you will all learn.” He cries leaning her head to the side, wiggling to get out of your grip. “Learn? What did I do to you?” He cries louder. “I swear I didn’t mean to hurt you. I don’t even know who you are.” Taking off the mask you look her in the eyes. “I don’t need you to know me. I need you dead.”
The knife lodges in her chest, right where her heart is. Life leaves her eyes as you twist the knife around. There’s a creak from behind you. You stumble from the body, fumbling to put the mask on and get the knife. You stand fully to see Rafe taking in the blood bath in front of him. You’re internally freaking out because you were just caught not just by anyone, by Rafe.
“Listen, I can explain.” He walks into the room, taking a hold of the mask. He yanks it along with some of your hair making you squeal. One of his hands grips your jaw with brutal force. “What the fuck are you thinking huh? Could hear her scream from outside the house, at least do it right.” You give him a questioning look as he backs away. He looks down at the body again and pulls you out the house. “Come on before someone else finds you.”
The house is a blur from how fast he drags you out. His truck is parked behind your car, he ignores your protests as he pushes you in the passenger side. “Where are your keys?” You blindly hand them over. He grabs them and sticks his hand out the window as Barry comes into view. Barry grabs the keys and gets into your car, driving off to who knows where.
“Where’s he taking my car?” He starts the truck driving off. “Somewhere that doesn’t have a dead body near it.” He’s talking this better then you would have thought. Wait, why is he even here? “Why are you here?” Rafe side eyes you, hand raising to brush spots of blood off your cheek. “Some psycho has been going around killing girls that I’ve been seeing.” Your body curls into itself, squishing against the door. “I’m sorry.”
You feel ashamed of yourself now. It was all fun and games until you got caught. The guilt of everything hitting you hard. Rafe pulls to the side of the road needing to see your face. “You’re sorry? Here I thought you were going around killing them for me.” He sees your eyes widen. “You did though right. I saw you that night, you know. Saw you watching me as I left and when you came out the house covered in blood.” Your eyes are watching his fingers that are playing with yours. “You saw me?”
“Yeah, went back cause I thought I left something.” He doesn’t know why he’s going to admit this but he does. “Made sure you saw them so I could really know. Couldn’t stop myself once they all kept turning up dead.” He knew and he played a part in it? Setting up every encounter so you would kill them after. His mind is as messed up as yours is.
“Why?” Your eyes flicker up to his. “Because you are just as insane as I am.” Pushing air behind your ear he gets close. “You need me to protect you. I can’t let you go.” Your ears perk up. He wants to protect you like you do for him. “Like I protect you?” Smiling he nods. “Yeah baby. We got each other.”

Chapter 3 - A wild Mama Dynamight appears!
Summary: Y/N gets the shove-talk.
Warnings: Bakugou drinks an alcoholic beverage, swear words, the chapter ends with a teeny-tiny cliffhanger (sorry)
First chapter Master List
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
It’s an hour after opening and Red Riot is nowhere in sight. You lay on the freshly cleaned counter with a sigh.
You got a little bit too used to have that ray of sunshine in your shop every morning. His pure existence makes your day better. Sometimes, you come in all grumpy, your mood heavily influenced by the lack of sleep, but one glance at the hero’s smile and the world is full of rainbows and unicorns.
Fuck, you miss him already. It’s really fucking concerning how quickly you developed feelings for this random guy. Okay, calling him a random a guy is quite rude as you literally grew up watching him in the TV, but he’s just a human, a human you’ve met only a month ago yet here you are, pining like a stupid school girl because the guy finally managed to get a day off.
“Waiting for someone?” Your boss mutters with a knowing smile which you answer with a big, loud and needy whine. She only snickers at that and then the door opens; you look up with hopeful eyes, searching for a blotch of red but you only find a blond dude in a cap and a face mask, looking sus as fuck.
Is he about to rob this place? - you wonder for a second; haha, he can fucking try, no one except your closest family members know this, but you went to Shiketsu High School and managed to get a hero license as well, so you are absolutely more than capable to annihilate a single fucker even with the lack of training in the last few years.
“Good fucking morning to you too.” The guy looks straight into your eyes with nothing but pure murderous intent.
You shudder under his intense gaze and your face pales in a matter of seconds. You have no idea what you have done personally to deserve such a stare but the guy doesn’t budge. He does look familiar to you though…
Uhm… haha… you definitely can’t annihilate this guy, because this guy is the Number Two pro hero, Dynamight. Oopsie daisy.
Knowing how much you’ve bullied Red Riot in the last few weeks, you have a feeling you are about to get “the shove-talk”.
“Good fucking morning to you too indeed, sir Dynamight!” You mumble under your nose, still a little bit shaken up by being almost murdered by his eyes. The guy keeps an eye contact as he puts his elbow on the counter; his whole posture screams “don’t fuck with me” so you… you don’t fuck with him.
Why?
Because this guy is Red Riot’s best friend. Otherwise he would be out of the door for acting inappropriately.
It’s quite amusing to you how much you care about his opinion; it’s not like you are dating his best friend or anything, you are literally just a barista who likes to banter with his favorite customer. Or at least that’s what you try to tell yourself when you feel the urge to ask a guy out and that’s like… every five seconds, really.
“Give me your best coffee.” Dynamight speaks up and it sounds like a challenge; and maybe it is, maybe this is the only way you can earn the guys approval.
Okay, you need to think.
This is Dynamight. He likes his stuff with a kick. A chili hot chocolate would definitely be something he would enjoy but he specifically said “coffee”, so that not an option.
A coffee with a kick… ahh!
“You doin’ hero work today, sir?” You ask nonchalantly while you poor some cold brew into a cup - Dynamight doesn’t look like a person who drinks his coffee sweet, but he also looks like someone who likes to be extra just because he fucking can.
“It’s our inventory and paperwork day, so we are the last agency on the call list so probably no.” He answers with a confused face but doesn’t ask any further questions about your silly question.
It’s time for you to make your favorite beverage… baileys coffee.
Yep, you heard it right. It’s alcohol time.
You give the drink a really light stir, just enough for the two colors to swirl together, then you top it up with some whip cream and finish the masterpiece with a hand-drawn explosion on the top (you don’t want to boast or anything but you can do a lot of stuff with chocolate syrup.)
You hand out the beverage with a massive smirk on your face and Dynamight takes it with a doubtful glare. He takes one sip and by the look of it, the drink kicks him right in the face; he stares at you with an incredulous look.
“It’s 8 in the morning, you absolute madman!” Dynamight fucking laughs, and that’s how you know you won this round. “Are you even allowed to sell alcohol in this place?”
“I’m not selling alcohol. I’m sharing my own secret stash with a friend of a friend. Don’t sue us, please.”
“Only if you make me another one for my fiancé, she will loose her mind from this shit.”
Dynamight gets excited for a second but then he schools his face into his usual scowl.
You can’t believe how cute he is in real life; the fact that his first thought was to share the drink with his loved one makes your heart melt. Now it makes sense why those two are besties. “So… Eijirou likes you.” The blond mutters like he’s talking about the weather. You have a sudden urge to drink some of that Bailey’s yourself, straight out of the bottle. “Red, shitty hair, sunshine reincarnation, rainbows coming out if his ass…” Katsuki tries to help like the only reason you are rendered speechless is the fact that you have no idea what the guy’s first name is.
“Red likes everyone.” You retort, faking nonchalance.
“I’ve been his best fucking friend for 10 years and trust me when I say, he doesn’t. Not like this, at least. I don’t know what kind of sorcery did you do to him, but…”
“I did nothing!” You retort loudly. “He’s my favorite customer, I like to banter with him and tease him. I try my best to make sure he leaves with a smile on his face. That’s all.”
“So you can see through his facade already. Impressive.”
“Facade?”
“Eijirou isn’t a ray of sunshine all the time. Not a lot of people can see through all the positivity he fakes daily to be liked. He’s sensitive and depressed. He’s my best fucking friend and if you break his fucking heart I swear to god I’ll chop you up and hide your body parts all over the country so no one can ever find you.”
“What if he breaks my heart?” You mumble with pout, absolutely not affected by the meaningless threats.
“Hm. You ain’t scared of me.” He mutters under his nose with a small smile on his face.
“Should I be? You might act like an asshole but it feels like it comes from a good place. Dunno, I might be weird. I’m glad Red has such a supportive friend by his side. He’s such a himbo sometimes, I’m a little bit worried for him.” You admit with a slight blush on your face.
There are a few seconds of silence between you two before the blond speaks up again:
“If he ever breaks your heart I’ll chop his dick off for letting such a good woman down.”
Needless to say your blush comes back with a full force at his words.
“Deal.” You mumble just as the door open up with full force.
“Katsuki, let her live! … oh. Uhm. I thought he’s… Nevermind. Hi!” Red Riot pants, out of breath. He also forgot to put on a shirt before he ran here. Oh damn, what a day to be alive.
“Did you just run straight here from your apartment, you idiot?!”
“Uhm, I felt like running today?” Red Riot pants with a massive grin on his face. You really want to know how does it feel like to kiss a guy with shark teeth… Y/N, calm the fuck down. Stop staring at his teeth. And his chest… those sweat-slicked abs… oh damn, call the popo, there’s something illegal going on in this coffee shop.
“Eijirou, you live 15 kilometers away and you aren’t even supposed to be in today!” Dynamight yells, and you can’t stop yourself from teasing the guy.
“Yeah, EIJIROU, give yourself a break!”
Kirishima… chokes on his saliva in the most unattractive way, but he looks so fucking adorable while doing it, and you kinda want to kiss him.
Wait? What?! You did not just think that, did you?!
“What if I wanted to see my favorite barista on my break? Am I not allowed to be in the area?” Kirishima gets a little bit cocky, probably trying to look badass and miserably failing at it.
“Look into my eyes and tell me that you didn’t get a message from my woman about me coming to check out the coffee shop.” Dynamight speaks up with a blank face, eyes staring holes into Kirishima’s skull. Damn. You see? That’s badass. The calmness, the way you can see Dynamight knows Red Riot is lying right now but he gives him a last chance to save himself. Kirishima cowers under his gaze, his body goes numb as his facade crumbles and he sighs, clearly giving up on fighting his best friend.
“The menace* messaged me…” Red Riot sits down on the nearest chair, completely defeated.
Honestly, if you thought Kirishima himself is a better entertainment than a sitcom, there two together are downright unbeatable when it comes to comedy.
* The Menace is the hero name of Katsuki’s fiancé. She started as a secretary at Katsuki’s agency after she got into an accident and couldn’t work as a hero for a long time but after she got better she joined Katsuki’s agency as a hero. The Menace was Katsuki’s nickname for her when they “hated” each other. If you want to read their story, read Bakugou Katsuki’s daily shenanigans!
“While I certainly enjoy your shenanigans and you two made my day, can you please leave now? Dynamight, your woman’s coffee will get cold. Red, no one will come to my coffee shop if there is a half naked guy sitting in the window, even though I must admit, it is a beautiful sight.”
“I’m… not even getting… a coffee?” Kirishima gives you the biggest puppy eyes the world has even seen while Dynamight snickers in the background like a cheeky child.
“Come here.” You motion towards the redhead with your fingers. “Come on, I ain’t got all day!” You reprimand and Kirishima moves closer, clearly terrified. You can barely conceal your smile as he finally makes it to the counter, ready to get smacked in the head, his eyes closed, ready for the impact. Instead of smacking him you jump on top of the counter and rake your fingers through his soft, gel-free strands as you leave a tiny kiss on the top of his forehead, an act full of affection and love. “Now get the fuck out of my coffee shop, you smelly himbo.” Everyone who hears your lovesick giggle is able to tell how much you adore this man… except the man himself. It’s kinda funny how oblivious the guy is.
“Yes, sir.” Is all you get as an answer; Red Riot is out of of the door before you can say bye; you stare at the door for a few second, already the missing the warmth Kirishima has brought with him.
“Wow, you’ve got it bad. I was worried for no reason.” Katsuki grins at you, sipping on his girlfriend drink, using the cute reusable pink straw you put in it for another brownie point.
“You look like a slut, Dynamight, get out and get laid.” You giggle while you roll your eyes, absolutely gobsmacked by the fact that Bakugou is… well… a completely different person than the loud and aggressive pro hero Dynamight you see in the news almost every day.
“Behave yourself.” Katsuki grins and after a lazy wave, he leaves; Suddenly, it’s way too lonely in the empty coffee shop.
“They are an interesting bunch.” Your boss snickers, her head poking out of the staff room door.
“Shut up.” You whine, only just realizing that she’s heard the whole conversation. “And don’t tell my uncle. Don’t want him to die an early death.”
“Yes, sir.” Your boss parrots; you really want to to go home and yell into a pillow out of embarrassment.
~•🪨•~
A few days later:
Kirishima is a happy child; he just got his favorite coffee from his favorite barista and if that’s not enough, he even got another kiss on his cheek. His heart has a hard time with the whole situation, it beats out of his chest every time Y/N comes close to him and he certainly needs to work on that bit to preserve this blooming friendship without ruining it with his stupid, unrequited romantic feelings but that’s a problem for another day; today, Kirishima is the one in charge at the agency, he’s the big boss, the one with all the responsibility and not even Y/N’s cheeky kisses can ruin his concentration as he stares at the CCTV, looking for troublesome individuals. It’s not like he doesn’t have specific people in the room to do this for him but Kirishima is a nosy little bitch and absolute likes the random funny interactions that sometimes happen on the screen; there is a guy who always dances on his way home from work, another one likes to pet the neighbors dog as he walks past, even if he gets bitten every time then there is that girl with two heads that likes to have a fight with herself in the middle of the street then walk into a lamp post by accident.
Today, he’s not looking at the random bystanders though; he’s looking at the camera right by this street, he’s looking at a smiling Y/N, staring out of the massive window, clearly daydreaming; Kirishima wonders what she’s thinking about and if he’s able to make those dreams come true.
Kirishima is aware that he is… uhm… a little bit creepy for doing this so he usually only does it for a few minutes then moves to the next frame.
They got a special security camera set up for that coffee shop after it opened; villains aren’t stupid to try and rob a shop right next to the big Dynamight-Red Riot Agency but even if Katsuki denies it, they both care about their neighbors and they want them to feel safe, hence why every single shop in the area has a special camera set up so they can help out in a case of emergency; fire, water damage, robbery, hell, they even send their interns to help out with rude, aggressive customers from time to time, just to keep the young, inexperienced hero students entertained on a boring day.
Kirishima is just about to look somewhere else, mesmerized by the sight of his… well, let’s be honest, crush; when he feels his heart drop down into his belly; three, masked individuals enter the shop, clearly up to no good and Kirishima doesn’t wait a single second before he jumps out of his office window and lands right in front of the (hopefully) unlocked coffee shop back door.
“Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.” He mutters to himself as he sneaks into the backroom, his whole body charged with the urge to protect the sunshine of his life.
… next chapter!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a slight chill in the air as the season's first snowflakes finally trickled down the cloudy sky. The moment Halloween passed, the atmosphere just smelled like Christmas. Every store, building and park was decorated for the holiday season.
Despite the cold winter air, the citizens of Nueva York kept their fall attire of simple t shirts and light sweaters. Those from out of town were easy to identify.
Such as Eddie Brock, who wore a thick coat and hat as he stood in front of your supermarket job. Frustrated by the fact that he could see his breathe, Eddie made his way inside. He breathed a sigh of relief towards the warmth and proceeded to the bakery section.
"Excuse me, is (Y/N) here?" Eddie said smoothly with a charming smile. One of the workers glanced at him,
"Not sure, she works at the Deli."
"Oh, Deli? Really?" Eddie whispered and thanked the worker.
That was a surprise. You were too chicken to handle something as fast pace as the deli back home. Here was worse. Hell, Eddie wouldn't be surprised if he saw you with gray hairs. Just the thought made him snort.
"Is (Y/N) around?" Eddie asked your supervisor.
Upon hearing your name, your supervisor glanced up at Eddie. Not recognizing the man, your supervisor hesitated. Everyone in the supermarket knew that you and Miguel were a thing. Miguel had already claimed you as his own and everyone was to make sure you did not have a hard time.
It wouldn't be pretty if you did.
"She called out." Your supervisor said simply and glanced at Eddie once more, "Mind if I ask who you are so I can inform her when she comes back."
"Her boyfriend. She left while I was away for work, do you think I could know when she works next? I'm sure she will be pleasantly surprised to see me,"
"Sorry, can't give out that information."
"Not even to her boyfriend?"
"No." Your supervisor said firmly. Eddie scoffed slightly,
"Fine. I'll be back tomorrow then."
Once Eddie was out of sight, your supervisor was quick to reach for the store phone. You picked a good day to call out, but Jessica was not here to see this interaction. Eddie was a dead man if Miguel ever found out that he claimed to be your boyfriend.
"Yes, I have some news for the boss."
----------
You were ecstatic as Miguel took you out for the day. It took little to no convincing when he had you call out and already had his driver waiting. You put on your best clothes for him and followed Miguel everywhere.
Everything you looked at for longer than 10 seconds, Miguel ended up buying. You were quick to get embarrassed and tried to tell him to stop spoiling you, but you secretly loved it. No one had spoiled you the way he was.
"The bed is going to have no room for us if you keep looking at stuffed animals," Miguel whispered in your ear before kissing your shoulder. You felt your cheeks heat up as you turned to him,
"S-Sorry, they're all just so c-cute." You replied and grabbed his hand as you pulled him past the store, "B-But I don't n-need anymore!"
"Amor (love), let me get you everything your heart desires." Miguel said with a loving smile.
You hugged Miguel in response. You really couldn't believe how good he was to you. That and you kept forgetting that he was rich. Miguel will literally buy you everything you want and that was dangerous.
"I-I like those plush...B-But all I really want t-to cuddle with is...is you," You squeaked, hiding your face in your sleeves.
Miguel nearly groaned at your cute little confession. He just wanted to grab you by the waist and cover you with kiss and marks, but, you were out in a public mall. Miguel had a reputation to keep. He was just going to have to wait until you two get in the car.
As the two of you passed a large opening, Miguel looked down at the street below. Furrowing his brows, Miguel watched as a small crowd formed around two drug addicts being cuffed by the police. This was nothing new, but the drug was.
Thanks to the new mafia gang in town, Venom, a new drug has spread like wildfire. Miguel did not like it when his city and people were being threaten. This new drug was making whoever took it hallucinate that they were part of a hive mind and worshiped their King.
"Miggy, I'm going to get a drink. D-Do you want anything?" You asked innocently, unaware of what was happening around you.
"No thank you, amor. Here," Miguel gave you his card and kissed your hand, "Get yourself a snack too. You look a little pale,"
"Mhm, t-thank...you,"
Miguel watched you smile shyly, hurrying back to the line. He had to protect your smile. You were robbed of it so much already. As Miguel watched you, he felt his burner ring. Quickly answering it, Miguel moved away from other people.
"Sir, we got a tip from the supermarket. A stranger appeared and requested for (Y/N), claiming to be her boyfriend." Jessica said over the line. Miguel inhaled sharply,
"Did they send footage?"
"Yes, Lyla is sending you an enhanced image of her ex. We'll finally have a face to go with the name."
"The audacity for him to call himself her boyfriend, ha...Hahaha, I'm going to-"
"Hehe, what's so funny?" You asked, your smile wide as you drank your sweet smoothie. Miguel stroked your cheek,
"Nothing, mi dulce conejito (my sweet little bunny)." Miguel patted your head, adoring your expression, "Jessica, I want everyone to keep an eye out, okay?" He whispered.
"One more thing, Miguel. Apparently, Eddie is going to keep going back to the supermarket until he sees (Y/N)."
"That won't happen,"
With a click, Miguel hung up on Jessica and returned his attention to you. That smile of yours was being threaten again. As much as Miguel wanted to leave and go find your ex now, he couldn't leave you alone.
"Miguel, is there anything you want?" You asked, holding his hand.
"We're shopping for you today,"
"I-I know, but Christmas...is around the c-corner...and...and I want to get you s-something...t-that you'll like...or...need." You whispered, pressing your head against his arm. Miguel felt his chest tighten, wondering how many horrible holidays you've gone through,
"Anything you give me I'll cherish with all my heart," Miguel kissed the top of your head, walking around the mall some more, "But, if it pleases you, I can have my assistant, Lyla, help you."
"R-Really?! T-Thank you!"
Miguel was eager to gobble you up again. He resisted and kept spoiling you by buying clothes, gifts and whatever you looked at. He had forgotten about Christmas, since it really wasn't something that Miguel focused on.
Miguel probably should start getting his mother and brother something for Christmas, and of course you. Noticing one of the pop up Christmas stores coming up ahead, Miguel felt you slightly pull against his sleeve.
"Go on, conejita (bunny). I'm right behind you."
You squealed softly as you hurried to the store. Miguel chuckled lowly since it was one of those calendar stores, but it wasn't the calendars that made you excited. Miguel casually stood behind you as you ravaged the puzzles.
Now this gave Miguel an idea.
--------
You hummed happily as you walked out of the mall with lots of new puzzles. Sure, Miguel bought you plenty of other things, but the puzzles was what you were more excited about. Having his driver take all of your bags, you smiled as Miguel followed you inside.
"Someone's happy," Miguel teased. You slowly crawled onto his lap, pecking his lips,
"Thank you...so...so much!" You chirped. Miguel's hands rested against your waist, gently biting your lip,
"We have some time until we reach the restaurant." He groaned, slowly undoing your pants. You huffed your cheeks softly,
"D-Don't be t-too rough."
"Never," Miguel said with a smirk as he hand stroked your cheek.
You whimpered softly, feeling your heart race as Miguel started to give you an array of kisses. Although you said for him not to be too rough, you honestly loved it when he was. Slowly grinding your hips against his, you melted against his touch.
---------
Eddie cursed slightly as he walked down the streets of Nueva York. His hands were stuffed in his pockets as he watched the normal citizens ignore him. That was all going to change soon. Soon, his new drug was going to get into everyone's hands.
Everyone will worship him.
But, he couldn't without his star player. You. Eddie needed you to help put his new drug into regular citizen's hands. But you just had to move without telling anyone. You just had to be useless and make his life harder.
"Gentle, Eddie. We have to be gentle at first," Eddie whispered to himself.
He wasn't going to take you back without force of course. Eddie knew that he could still manipulate you to do his bidding. All he had to do was say a few sweet words and you would come crawling back to him. It was easy.
Stopping at the edge of a sidewalk, Eddie couldn't help but notice the fancy limo car beside him. He cocked a brow since the back of the mini limo was shaking. A soft chuckle escaped his lips, knowing that someone was having the time of their life.
The windows weren't even tinted that much. When the light turned green, Eddie went to get a glance as the slutty couple. His eyes widen as he swore he saw you moaning as you bounced on some stranger's dick.
"Nah, we're just seeing things now." Eddie whispered, before reaching for his phone, "But...I better get (Y/N)'s address just to be sure."
----------
You moaned loudly as Miguel held your hips down. You were clenching against his dick as your body calmed down from another harsh orgasm. You swore you saw stars as your body finally relaxed. Miguel chuckled, kissing your neck as he slowly started to thrust back into you,
"See? I said I would be gentle," He teased, rubbing your clit in the process. You wrapped your arms around his neck, whimpering softly,
"I-I know~ mhm~ B-But...W-What if s-someone...ah~"
"I can always lower the window,"
"N-No~" You cried out as Miguel went faster, "M-Miggy~ I-I w-wanna be able t-to w-walk~"
"You will, baby," Miguel chuckled darkly.
Flinging your head back as you rode Miguel's dick, you moaned as you felt nothing but pleasure. Miguel grunted as he pulled you back in and groaned as he started to get rougher. You gasped and cried as Miguel brought you to another orgasm.
"Miguel~" You cried out.
"Good girl, (Y/N)," Miguel groaned as he unloaded inside of you, "See, still gentle,"
"Mhm," You rested against his chest, calming from your high, "S-Still super e-embarrassing. A-Are you sure...y-your driver d-didn't hear us?" Miguel carefully fixed you back up as the driver looked for parking,
"I'm sure." Miguel smirked, pecking your lips as he trailed your panty line, "Want him to hear us?"
"N-No!" You squeaked, covering your face.
Miguel laughed towards your behavior and helped you out of the car. He wrapped his arm around your waist and helped you into the restaurant since your legs were still shaking. He glanced down at your flustered cheeks and thought. He needed to casually tell you that it wasn't safe to go back to work.
"(Y/N), what would you think about not working at the supermarket anymore? I can take care of all your needs." He whispered as the waiter greeted them. You glanced up at Miguel,
"B-But...I don't want-" You stopped, knowing that Miguel didn't think of you as a burden, "I-I'll feel like I'm...just using y-you. I-I want to w-work too."
"Then, work for me?" Miguel suggested as they sat at their fancy table, "I could always use an extra hand." He offered. Your eyes sparkled at the suggestion,
"R-Really?" You gasped and thought, "A-As much...as I-I would like a c-change...but...I...I really can't."
"Why not, baby?"
"W-Well...I-I haven't had...a chance to t-tell you...But," You covered your mouth, looking shyly towards Miguel, "M-My parents...o-own the supermarket I work at...W-Which i-is why...s-someone like me can e-even work...t-there."
Miguel's eyes widen as he proceeded this new information. The supermarket that he took care of his mafia business at; the supermarket were he got his goods from; the supermarket that Miguel had great connection with....was owned by your family.
And those same owners told your ex where you went.
"Is that so?" Miguel said with a devilish smirk.
This just made things even easier for Miguel.

Haikyu accidentally confessing
Tsukishima, Oikawa, Sakusa, Suna, Kageyama, Ushijima, Akaashi
TW: Sexual jokes (like middle school boy jokes) Sorry for any mistakes!
"Ayo-" You started with the overused tiktok sound, causing your friend to push your head forward slightly. You chuckled at his annoyed expression as you opened your locker, getting a few books.
"You start this again and I'll throw a ball at your head." You smirked at him.
"Depends what kind." He gagged but you noticed the telltale sign of him trying not to smile.
"You're gross." He stated, even so, he grabbed two of the books from your load.
"You love me." You sang quietly.
"Do I?" He tilted his head as you two made your way to the gym.
"No.." You said sadly as you hung your head. He knew you were smiling as you did, but he indulged you anyway.
"Oh, no, so sad, I'm sooo sorry. You must be so disappointed." He said blandly, rolling his eyes.
You smiled a bit as he opened the door and held it for you.
"I want a boyfriend though." You stated , making him groan.
"Here we go again.."
"I'm serious, I just..want someone, you know?"
"No."
"Well maybe you'd have a girlfriend if you weren't so mean to every girl who asks you out." You said, hitting his side softly.
"You have to be harsh or they'll think they have a chance. Besides, I already have someone in mind." You gasped.
"Who?!"
"You."
"Ooh- Wait what."
"Ew, it's you." You groaned as you opened your door.
"You invited me, I'll leave." He threatened.
"Mkay." You said, going to shut the door, shutting his foot in the process.
"You and Iwa bully me so much." He whined as he walked in.
"It's payback for all the crap you do." He gasped and placed a hand on his heart.
"Little ol' me?" You laughed loudly as you walked into the living room.
"You're right, it's just fun."
"You know what else is fun?" He wiggled his brows.
"Murder?"
"Um, no- but we'll come back to that." He gave finger guns and I mused at him.
"What movie do you wanna watch?" I asked.
"Mulan, duh." My eyes brightened as I turned to him.
"Really?" He smiled and sat down, shrugging nonchalantly.
"Yeah yeah, put your favorite movie in." He rolled his eyes teasingly, waiting for you to come sit by him on the couch.
"Do you want snacks?" You asked, standing up and grabbing the remote.
"You already have the best one." He said, making a click sound with his tongue.
"In your dreams." You smiled.
"You can only imagine." He said seriously, making you turn to him quickly.
"Huh?"
"Whoopsie!"
"Hi puppy." You greeted your friend as he sat down at the table.
"You did wipe this down right?" You nodded. You two were meeting at your moms restaurant after hours to hang out.
"Hey. Did you read the book I gave you?" He asked.
"Yes, I did, and I have to say I'll never look at my phone the same way again." He chuckled.
"And I guess I'll just have to start kissing people as a greeting."
"Ew no." He scrunched his nose in disgust.
"You can be excluded if you want." You teased.
"Actually, I'd rather be the only one included." You blinked at him a few times, assuming you heard him wrong.
"Cat got your tongue? I can help with that." He smirked, making you shriek quietly and hide your face behind your hands.
"Stop! Who are you?" You giggled.
"Your future boyfriend?"
"Mwah." You kissed your friend on top of his mop of hair.
"What are you doing today?" He asked as you crawled on his lap.
"Eyeliner and brows." He nodded as he gazed over your shoulder, watching the movie that was playing behind you.
"Look up." He obeyed and flinched a bit when you started putting eyeliner on his lower lash line.
"Oh beautiful. Stunning. Runway material." He chuckled as you grabbed your tweezers and started plucking a few stray brow hairs.
"Oww.." He whined, making you roll your eyes.
"You're such a baby." You teased.
"You love me." You nodded in confirmation.
"A lot." He smiled softly and you both made eye contact, and in that moment, you both felt something change.
"Never smile at my little brother again." You laughed, patting your friend on his back.
"I didn't mean to scare him!" He whined. You two were walking to a convenience store before going to his house for a movie night, something you both had every Friday.
"Ah, he's a loser anyway." You shrugged.
"Is it really that scary when I smile?" He asked quietly.
"If people aren't around you all the time, maybe, but when they realize you're just a ball of fluff when your comfortable, then no." He blinked, confused, but shrugged anyway.
"No, it's not, it just surprises new people." He sighed.
"Tobio, your smile's fine." You chuckled.
"Maybe to you, but I'm tired of scaring people because of it."
"Tobio, your smile, is absolutely, perfect." You said, grabbing his hand, making him pause.
"Especially to me." You confirmed.
"...Why are you staring at me, weirdo." You chuckled, turning around to see your friend laying propped up on your bed.
"I'm waiting for you to start the movie." He blinked.
"Start it without me, I'm going to change into fuzzier pants." He didn't know why he found you so endearing. Your were loud, and clumsy, and you were always late, even for things in your own bedroom.
"Slow poke." He heard you scoff as you hobble back into his view, one leg into your pants, and the other struggling to find the hole.
"Inside out." He noted, without even sparing you a glance.
"You're so smart." You cooed, jumping onto the bed.
"I try." He said, letting you find your spot, tucked right into his collarbone. He knew in a few minutes you'd be dead asleep, and for some reason, it made him smile.
"Why are you smiling so much today?" You asked.
"You." He simply stated.
"Oh. You make me smile too." You answered.
Ushijima smiled again, nuzzling his forehead with yours. Neither of you knew what this new step was exactly, but both of you knew that it was one you wanted to take.
"I hate math." You stated, shoving your math book away carefully.
"It's useful though.
"Keji..Hush." He shrugged.
"There's nothing interesting about it though..It's just numbers and words, and now apparently fucking letters too." He laughed.
"Yeah, I admit, it's not fun, but it's useful." You sighed.
"But I'm boreddd." You whined, sliding you chair over to your bed and jumping onto the plush blanket.
"Can we just watch a movie?" You asked, mustering the best pout you could. Akaashi tried, he really did, but God you were so cute, all he could do was sigh and stand up, walking over to you.
"You're lucky ten teacher moved the test to next week." He said.
"They did?!" You asked.
"What were you doing in class today?!" He chuckled.
"Looking at you, not gonna lie." He blushed and brought on of your pillows up, smacking you with you.
"What? You do it too, and Bokuto said that you once ranted about how my hair looked in the sun, so I don't want to hear anything about it."
"That snitch."

Hero Too ★
dad!bakugo & daughter!reader
summary: your father is the number one hero, and you’re his quirkless child. you want to be a powerful hero like him one day, but it’s simply impossible if you don’t have a power… right?
warnings: manga spoilers, post-canon divergence, mentions of bullying
no use of y/n
Being a single father was hard on Katsuki, but he’d be damned if he couldn’t give his little girl the best life he could. Being a single father was hard on Katsuki, but he’d be damned if he couldn’t give his little girl the best life he could.
He could proudly say his daughter was the best thing to ever happen to him. That you were the best thing to ever happen to him.
He was there for all your accomplishments, big or small. He was always so proud of you — from the moment you took your first steps and every minute after. Even when he found out you were Quirkless, his mind never changed.
You were still his pride and joy. His entire world. But to you… it was like your whole world fell apart right in front of you.
Like your father, you always admired heroes. You wanted to be the strongest, the best of the best — and Katsuki saw a glimpse of himself whenever you talked about everything hero-related. It changed when you got a little older, though. Suddenly it was like your passion had completely vanished.
You stopped talking about heroes, and it even led to you ignoring him when you came home from school at the end of each day. Of course, this new behavior wasn’t unseen by the Pro. He’d have to get his eyes checked if he didn’t see it.
At first he assumed it was simple teenage rebellion. You were fourteen, after all. But then he saw how distant you were becoming. You were spending more time in your room, even eating your meals in there.
It’s not like Katsuki could do anything about it most nights. He’d been working a lot of late nights at his agency, so he wasn’t always home to stop you from your antics. And if he was home, sitting silently across the table from you, he couldn’t find the right words to say.
He didn’t know how to reach out to you, mostly because you never gave him anything to work with. Even if you did, he still wouldn’t know what to say. All he knew was that he wanted to help you, but couldn’t.
…
Days off had become rare for Katsuki, but today he was home free, waiting for you to return from another long day of school.
Relaxed on the couch, he let out a heavy sigh, turning off his phone. He wasn’t getting anything done aimlessly scrolling through news feeds. Except maybe indirectly catching up with old friends.
However, his mind was cleared of all that when he heard the front door unlock, causing him to turn his head expectantly.
He was thinking of getting take out tonight instead of cooking like he usually did, and he wanted his junior’s input on what they should get.
When the door finally opened and you stepped inside, you slipped off your shoes and walked right by him. Katsuki deadpanned at being treated like he was invisible. Much less by his own daughter.
He’s Great Explosion Murder God: Dynamight, for crying out loud!
”Hey— get back here, kiddo.” Katsuki said, getting up and stopping you before disappeared down the hallway for the rest of the evening. Placing both hands on either of his hips, he sighed. “It’s my day off and you won’t even say hi to me?”
You only mutter something under your breath, causing Katsuki to roll his eyes. Before he can ask what you were trying to say, he notices one of your backpack straps in ripped, loose threads coming out in every direction.
"What happened to your bag? That's the second one this month. If you're not careful with your crap then I'll start sending you to school without a backpack."
"Fine, whatever! I don't care, just leave me alone!"
The sudden outburst came out louder than you wanted. You didn't mean to raise your voice. You were always careful and quiet, knowing that your father wore hearing aids around the house.
You slap a hand over your mouth as your eyes widen. You're quick to slip past him and run down the hall before slamming the door shut as soon as you enter your room.
You don’t want to talk to your dad about this. It’s none of his business anyway. What happens at school, stays at school. How would you even bring up the fact that you were getting bullied for being Quirkless? It was stupid, and you figured it would pass eventually. That the kids at school would get bored of you and move on.
That was your mindset for the last year.
Just keep your head down and it would all pass by, just like things always did. Either way, you’d still need to have a good excuse for why your backpack was messed up. You knew not just anything flew by your father so easily. After all, he wasn’t the number-one hero for nothing.
With your bag thrown on the ground, you throw yourself onto your bed, just wanting to relax and get your mind off things. You weren’t going to cry. You’re tough, and that means you can’t cry over every little thing that happens. At least… that’s what you were thinking as you felt a tear rolling down your cheek.
With every year that passed, Quirklessness was becoming even more uncommon — and both your parents had Quirks. So why not you? Why did you have to be the odd one out?
Why did you have to be born so weak?
You shoved your face into your covers as simple tears became full on sobs. You hated it. Hated the feeling of being so useless, and feeling like you didn’t belong. And maybe you didn’t. Maybe you didn’t deserve to be born with a power. It’s why the universe cursed you to be a powerless nobody who just happened to be the number-one Pro’s daughter.
You couldn’t be a hero. It was impossible for someone like you to be one. And every time the thought crossed your mind, you felt like you were letting down your father. Letting down the person you aspired to be like.
Before you were supposed to gain a Quirk, you remembered how you would talk to your dad about all the amazing things you would do once you had your ability. Your dad was your biggest cheerleader, so it felt like you wasted all that time when you ended up without any special powers.
Your comforter was soaked with your tears, your eyes burning the more you cried. It wasn’t fair. It’s not fair. Nothing is fair.
…
You didn’t notice your bedroom door opening as you wallowed in your own self-pity. It wasn’t until you felt a dip at the side of your bed that you felt your father’s presence beside you. He didn’t say anything as he cautiously stroked your hair in a comforting manner, untamed and wild just like his own.
You didn’t have it in you to care that he was here, watching you pour out all your pent up feelings of frustration in the form of hot tears, burning your eyes as you hiccuped and swallowed down whatever you were going to say. Because in truth, there was so much you wanted to tell the man beside you.
But you weren’t sure how to. Verbally expressing yourself has never been one of your strong suits. Whenever you felt angry and upset, you distanced yourself until you felt better.
“Did something happen at school?” Katsuki’s voice was uncharacteristically soft when he spoke, bringing his hand down to your back as he rubbed soothing circles to calm you down.
He could clearly see you were hurting. It hurt him to see it. If there was something going on that you weren’t talking about, he wanted to know. But he quickly figured that raising his voice and demanding that you tell him wouldn’t work. He wouldn’t dream of raising his voice at you.
”I… I want to be a hero.” You manage through your choked out sobs. “I want to be strong. Strong like you, but I— I’m not—“ You cut yourself short as you cried harder. You felt so pathetic, not even capable of talking about it. “I don’t know,” Is what comes out.
Katsuki frowns, ignoring the wetness forming in the corner of his eyes. He wasn’t a crier himself, but you were his daughter. His baby girl. A loving, gentle, kind-hearted but hot-tempered girl who wholeheartedly believes she isn’t good enough. And maybe it’s his fault for not trying harder to reach out and showing you that you do matter.
That you were still special — Quirk or none.
“You don’t have to talk to me now, I… I can wait.” the blond says, hand now still on your back. The jacket you have on is his hero merch. It’s nice to see that you still know who the coolest hero is. “But I am still here when you decide to. I know I’m not always home, but I would drop everything if you wanted to talk, alright?”
Lifting your head slightly to wipe your eyes, you swallow your feelings for a moment to speak. You feel like you’ll burst into tears at anything right now, but you try your best to ignore the feeling bubbling up inside you.
“Even though I don’t have a Quirk… do you think I can still be a hero?” you ask, keeping your voice low. You didn’t want to accidentally snap again and get in trouble if you weren’t already.
There’s a painful twist in Katsuki’s chest, he’s seen this before. Though they’d gotten past it long ago, he can’t help but be reminded of Dek— Izuku. Even though he’d been forgiven, he still felt guilty about how he treated him in their adolescence.
Seeing that same sight in his daughter hurt his heart. He held back the tears he knew were in his eyes, and sighed.
”It’s hard to be a hero without a Quirk, sweetheart. But having powers isn’t what makes someone a true hero.” Katsuki says, making you curious, as well as confused. You wondered what he meant by that, and you looked up.
”Huh? What do you mean?”
Katsuki’s words catch in his throat, trying to find the best way to go about this. How should he approach it? Delicate situations were admittedly hard for him to handle. He knows that. But still, he has to at least try.
He’s supposed to be the best, isn’t he? That means he’s also supposed to be the best at being a father. After a long minute, he shifts so he’s more comfortable on the bed.
“Having strength… it doesn’t equal being a good hero. Not all the time.” He starts out, trying not to mess this up. “It’s good to be strong, sure, but being a hero… it’s what’s in your heart that matters. You’re a good person— you like to help people and expect nothing in return, right? Like helping people, and holding doors for geezers and all that crap,”
You roll your eyes. That’s just basic decency. You don’t understand where your dad is trying to go with all this, but you try to be patient and hear him out.
”Helping people and having a good heart is an important part of being hero. You’re a kid with big feelings and a big heart. So you know what I think?” he asks.
You shake your head. ”What?”
”I think that even without a stupid Quirk, you’re already a kick-ass hero. And I don’t wanna hear you say otherwise, okay?” he says, reaching out to ruffle your hair. “You’re my goddamn daughter, you were born with greatness in your blood. Those punks at school are gonna have hell rain down on them and their parents if they even think about talking you down. Don’t be afraid to put those idiots in their place,”
You look away from your dad again, but you feel a bit better now. Even if this is just the start, you’re grateful for your dad— even if you were a bit of an ass towards him. “Dad…” you groan, knocking his hand off your head. “Stop it,” Katsuki laughs a bit and sighs.
“You’re tough as nails, with or without a power. And I love you just the same, understand? You’re the best damn kid in the world, I mean that. Even though you’re always so damn moody—“
”Dad!” You complain again, puffing your cheeks as they burned red with embarrassment.
“Cool it, Firecracker. I’m just messing with ya,”

Lonesome Superhero
Pairing: Gator Tillman x f!reader (not romantic)
Summary: Gator keeps hitting on you and you finally give him a piece of your mind. He's not the sweet boy you once knew anymore - or if he is, it's far too difficult to see.
Tags: No spoilers! Angst. Post episode 1 and 2.
Warnings: language, misogynistic themes from the show
Length: ~1.3k
A/N: This just popped into my head and I needed to get it out. Gator is despicable and unless he has some major character growth, I can't bring myself to romanticize him. I do think his character is super intriguing though. I hope we get to dive deeper into what makes him tick throughout the season. (:
(Plus, I have a theory that Gator may have unintentionally been a witness to his mother's murder as a boy...)
Fic below the cut or on AO3 here
It's in the way the frosted glass door harshly swings open that immediately lets you know who is behind it. There could only be one person who felt entitled enough to barge into a retirement home like he owned the place.
You swallow thickly. Not again.
Turning around from your medicine cart, you find him standing there in his camouflage cargo pants and a black t-shirt that is two sizes too tight. His hands perch on his hips as his narrowed eyes and cocky smirk aim in your direction.
"Gator, please. Not today," you speak coldly.
His smirk only grows. "Oh, c'mon, babycakes, you don’t know what you're missin'!"
"Gator!" you scold, trying to hush your voice in front of your patients. "Come with me, please." Anger bubbles up inside of you as Gator's face contorts into a triumphant grin. He saunters forward as you lead him toward the back entrance of the small facility.
In the shadow of the building, the fall air nips at your bare arms. The chill, however, is easily quelled by your boiling blood.
"How dare you come to my place of work!" You waste no time laying into the Tillman son.
Your ferocity catches Gator off-guard, causing panic to dart across his features. He takes a half-step back, pulling his head and neck along with it.
Oh, but you’re far from done with him.
"For weeks now, you've been popping up wherever I go, asking me to go out with you in the most degrading ways possible! Every. Single. Time. I have turned you down, yet you clearly cannot take ‘no’ for an answer! And now you have the audacity to show up at where I work and do the same? No! It doesn’t work like that, Gator. I worked hard for my career. I went to college, got my license, and came back here to help my community. I am respected in this building, and I will not tolerate you waltzing in here like God's gift to women and disrespecting me in front of my patients!"
Out of breath and seething, you continue to stare Gator down. He looks downright gobsmacked – a mixture of a wounded pup about to run and a cornered hound ready to bite.
The silence is deafening. You wait for Gator to snap back like he always does – some moronic comeback that's as pathetic as his barbed wire LOL tattoo.
And predictably, he does just that. "What the hell?!!" he cries out, stepping towards you and invading your space. The pungent odor from his last puff of vape wafts off his breath. "I'm the law in this town! I'm a winner! All you ever do is humiliate me! You're fucking awful!"
"I'm awful?!" you scoff, eyebrows shooting skyward. You're about to rip him a new one when you simply stop and shake your head in pity. "What happened to you, Gator?"
Once again, the Tillman son is rendered speechless. His dark brow pinches together in confusion. "Wha-?"
You seize your opportunity to dive a little deeper. "I mean, what happened to the Gator from middle school? The one who used to be my friend? The boy who was sweet and kind and would spend lunch hours reading comic books with me. It's like you suddenly woke up one day and decided to become an asshole, always acting out in class and purposely bullying other kids. Doing reckless shit because your dad could get you out of trouble. And now? I think you've gotten worse! Hell, Mrs. Lakeland told me that you all but pushed Gladys Baker out of the way at the corner store the other day. What the heck is wrong with you? Who do you think you are?"
"I - I -" he stammers, head spinning. Then Gator swallows, puffing up his chest. "I take what's mine! I take what I'm owed. I made it through police training. People in this town owe me their respect, so I take it as I see fit."
"Newsflash! That's not how you get respect, sunshine," you retort. "Respect is earned, and from where I'm standing, all I see is a pathetic man-child whose daddy got him where he is today. 'My father is the sheriff' are the magic words that force people to step out of your way. That's not respect; that's notoriety from being a grade-A asshole!"
Gator's face twists into a snarl while his fists clench and unclench at his sides. You've clearly hit a nerve.
Even though you’d love nothing more than to lay into him some more, you remind yourself that it’s notworth the fight. Instead, your chest constricts with disappointment. "I don’t get it, Gator,” you speak softly. “Why do you let your father run your life? He says to jump and you ask how high. When are you gonna wake up and realize that he's just using you?"
If it wasn’t clear that you’d struck a nerve before, it certainly is now. Gator’s combat boot strikes the gravel, sending up a cloud of dust and dirt, and his cheeks glaze over with a deep red flush. "I don’t – He doesn’t –" Lost for words, Gator simply clamps his jaw shut. He kicks at the ground again and throws his hands to his hair, letting out a frustrated yell.
You hop back in surprise; a fearful gasp escapes you at his sudden outburst.
Gator's head whips back up, and those dark eyes meet yours.
Middle school was a long time ago, yet Gator remembers everything. He remembers how nice you were to him; how one day you saw this quiet boy sitting alone at lunch with a comic book and decided to come over and ask what he was reading. He used to dream of being as invincible as the superheroes in his books – Gator's way of shielding himself from everything that he'd seen. But then you came along and somehow made him feel a little less alone. He adored you and your friendship, eventually developing a little crush. That was, of course, before Gator was taught that girls weren't supposed to like comics, that men lead while women follow, and that his father's word was absolute. If he pleased his father, any situation could go Gator's way. The power sought after by characters in his comic books was right at Gator's fingertips; all he had to do was prove to the senior Tillman that he was worthy. Nothing else mattered.
And now? Gator almost had it. He was so close to having his father's approval. He was certain of it! Why couldn't you see that? Why couldn't you see how awesome he had become? He had buried his crush on you away while you were at college, but now that you were back, there was no reason to hide that he wanted you. And there should be no reason why you wouldn't want him either!
Except…your words today hurt. They made Gator feel puny and pathetic. How could you say that he was just his father's pawn?! He was his own man! A tough and strong and important man in this town...right?
You watch as despair briefly flashes across Gator's face before quickly being replaced by aggravation. He grunts again prior to spinning on his heels and stalking off.
No! Gator is his own man, and you were just the type of woman his father had warned him about! His crush is stupid, and so are you...
As Gator storms off, his ears catch your quiet words laced with pity. "Silly me for thinking that the sweet guy who read comics with me would still be in there.”
For the first time since he was a boy, tears stab at Gator's eyes. He scrunches his eyes closed and shakes his head, instead focusing on the sound of gravel crunching under his boots as he slinks away.
