Word Count- Swearing, violence, mentions of sex
“Is he my father or not,” My voice seems to echo throughout our family's little living room as I glare at my mother.
“It’s not that simple, Y/N,” My mother raises her hands in surrender as she begins to take a step closer to me. The dark glare on my face seems to halt her movements and she closes her eyes and sighs.
“He’s the man that raised you, he-”
“You. Know. What. I. Mean,” I cut her off, biting out each of my words, “I want the truthful answer. Is Y/F/N Y/L/N my biological father?”
I seem to lose all the air in my chest as I watch my mother drop down onto the couch and look up at me with tears running down her face. And that’s all I need to have my answer.
“Oh my god,” I cover my mouth as my chest starts concaving on itself. Tears cloud my vision as I stare at my mother. Her tears mimicked my own. And a wave of anger flows through my body. She was crying as if she was the victim here. She was crying in front of her emotionally and physically wounded daughter as if this wasn’t her fault.
I sit on the dark coffee table in front of my mother, our knees touching as I stare at her, “You’re going to tell me everything. And don’t even try lying to me.”
My mother looks up at me and nods as she puts her head in her hands, “Eighteen years ago your father and I were having problems. We’d been married 3 years and still couldn’t conceive. It took a toll on both of us. I got depressed and well… you know how your father gets when he is upset,” She looks up at me and I slightly nod as a wave of nausea passes over me, “Your father was out of town for the night and so I thought I would go down to a little bar outside of town. I was there for about an hour before I thought of leaving. But right when I was about to,” she pauses in thought for a moment then continues, “The most beautiful man I’d ever seen approached me. We talked throughout the night and then,” She looks at me to see if I understand where she was going and I nod disgusted.
“After I did what I had done I had never felt more disgusted with myself in my entire life. You have to believe me Y/N,” She reaches out to take my hand but I flinch away from her.
“Does Dad…or your husband know,” I ask but a part of me already knows the answer.
“When I fell pregnant with you soon after, you have to understand how happy your father was, I had never seen him that in love with something in the time I’d known him. You saved our marriage, Y/N. But… as you got older and you developed more of your own features and personality, neither of which were like me or him… I think your father realized or suspected that you weren’t his.”
My eyebrows furrow as I try to hold back my tears and sobs, “Is that why he…am I the reason he left?”
My question has my mother quickly shaking her head, “Your father and I had our own problems and even if it was because of that, it still isn’t your fault. He is still your father, he is the one who raised you.”
I stand up quickly, making sure not to move too much to upset my wounded arm, which is currently in a sling, and I huff out an angry laugh, “Raised me! Raised me?! I saw that man maybe once or twice a month for 16 years and in those few moments, all he caused was torture and heartbreak in my life. That man didn’t raise me! And looking at you now… I realize that you barely raised me too… I raised myself. Just like I’ve raised Theo,” I walk backward out of the living room as I shake my head at my mother, “I’ll never forgive you for this. Never.”
I hear my mother call out to me as I grab my keys and run out of the house. Rain pours down on me, dampening my clothes as I throw open my car door and turn it on.
I drive around trying to decide my next move, and somehow I end up in the Salvatore’s driveway.
I’m practically on auto-pilot as I walk up the stairs to the front door, I bring my hand up and knock, and within a moment it slams open and Damon stares down at me.
“What the hell do you…Y/N,” He pauses as he stares at my tear-filled eyes, “What happened? Are you hurt?”
I just stare at him and he takes a step forward and brings a hand to my arm. His touch seems to bring me out of my stupor and tears explode from my eyes as I throw myself into Damon’s arms. He doesn’t react for a moment as I cry into his shirt, but after a moment I feel his arms come and wrap around me.
“You want to…um, talk about it,” Damon asks quietly as if he’s not really sure how to comfort a teenage girl.
“My dad,” I hiccup out a sob, “Isn’t my dad!”
I feel Damon nod and he hums, “Um, sure, ok. Not entirely sure what that means,” He says the last part under his breath.
“I can’t go home. I can’t see my mom,” I pull away from Damon and I wipe the tears away from my face with my t-shirt sleeve.
Damon looks down at me for a moment before he turns sideways and gestures to the living room, “Then you’re going to stay here. For as long as needed.”
-2 months later-
“Hurry up hoe! This party isn’t going to decorate itself,” Caroline’s cheery voice calls up to me as I leave my bedroom at the Salvatore’s.
“I’m coming Caroline, chill out,” I laugh to myself as I descend the stairs to where Caroline is standing. She shoots me a bright smile that rivals the sun when she sees me.
“I can’t believe you’re still living here,” Caroline says as she grabs my hand and pulls me down the hall.
I laugh awkwardly, “Ya, I guess I just like the bed here better than the one at my house.”
“And your mother really doesn’t care,” Caroline asks and I flinch at the mention of the woman I haven’t talked to in two months.
“Um, ya. Theo’s away at some football camp until school starts and my mom’s always working so she doesn’t care.”
“You’re so lucky that you’re mom is so chill,” I laugh at the irony of that. My mom being “too chill” is the reason I’m not living at home right now. Caroline doesn’t know that though so she shoots me an odd look as she must’ve heard me laughing to myself.
After finding out about my paternal issues and moving in with Damon I made up a lie to all my friends that the reason I was living with him was that I needed a little vacation from my life, and not that I’m pissed off at my mom and scared to go home because it means I’ll have to face the reality of my life now.
Damon is currently the only one who knows of my new “bastard” status. Even though sometimes I feel like strangling him, he has honestly been kind of a great friend these past two months. He’s gone along with my lie, not even telling Elena, who he is totally in love with. Damon and I have even started our own movie nights. Right now we’re bingeing the TV show Supernatural. He and I both like Dean, but our reasonings are a little different. God, I love Jensen Ackles.
We’re postponing our movie night tonight because Caroline and I, mostly Caroline,  are throwing Elena her 18th birthday party. Elena told me to promise her that we wouldn’t make the party too big, but I kind of had to cross my fingers behind my back when I made that promise because when it comes to Caroline Forbes, no one will get in the way of her party making plans.
“Good morning,” I look over to see the birthday girl smiling up at me as Caroline and I enter the living room. She and Tyler, who nods hello at me, are going through boxes upon boxes of party supplies.
“It’s 1 pm,” I say back to her and she frowns and checks her watch.
“Oh… Good afternoon then,” She laughs sheepishly.
I walk down the steps and bring her into a hug, “Happy birthday, Elena!”
I can hear Elena sigh and she pulls away from me, “Thank you,” Her vision goes from me to the boxes surrounding us, “I thought you said this was going to be lowkey?”
It’s my turn to smile sheepishly at her as I gesture towards Caroline, who is currently bitching to Tyler about hanging a streamer wrong, “You try getting in the way of her planning something. I love you Elena, but I’m more scared of her.”
Elena turns to look at Caroline as well and we both cringe when she hits Tyler over the head with a hard plastic plate.
“Good point,” Elena whispers out.
“I feel like I have to fight Damon every single time we get a lead on Stefan,” Elena’s complaints have me side-eyeing both Caroline and her. I try to busy myself with unraveling some string lights, trying not to seem suspicious in any manner. I’m the only one here who knows really just how much Damon knows about Stefan’s “activities” this summer.
About 3 weeks ago I found the articles about Stefan and he who shall not be named in Damon’s closet when I was going through Damon’s things. He’d gone through my things so I thought I’d return the favor.
When Damon found out I knew he made me promise to keep it to myself. Only he, myself, and Ric could know. Damon didn’t want to worry Elena about all the killing Stefan had been doing. So “The Squad,” as I like to call us, have been researching different “animal killings” around the US this summer. Unfortunately, Damon and Ric won’t let me go on any of the road trips with them so I’ve been stuck at the Salvatore house this summer.
“Maybe he doesn’t wanna find him,” Tyler’s comment makes me cringe slightly at the irony.
“Tyler!”
“What? He’s into you. Isn’t he” He asks Elena.
“The only reason Stefan left with Klaus was so that he could save Damon’s life,” Elena explains as she takes the supplies Tyler handed her, “I mean, trust me Damon wants to find him.”
You have no idea.
“But…you kissed him. Probably screwed with his head,” Tyler says and Caroline and Elena whip around to look at him while I hover a hand over my mouth to keep me from giggling. I’ve made fun of both Elena and Damon on multiple occasions this summer about the “kiss of death,’’ as I like to call it.
“Tyler,” Caroline exclaims and Elena shoots her an “Are you serious” look.
“I’m sorry,” Caroline apologies wholeheartedly.
Elena raises her hand and shakes it, “I…Don’t worry about it. Look, yes, I kissed him, but it was a…”
“Kiss of death,” I say under my breath, but Elena still hears me and shoots me a glare.
“It was a goodbye kiss. I thought he was gonna die,” She tries to explain herself but Tyler shoots me a look and I have to fight off a laugh.
Elena fishes her phone out of her pocket, “I just missed a call from Bonnie,” She says.
At the mention of my witch friend, I perk up, “Tell her I say hi!”
Elena nods in agreement as she leaves the room. As soon as she goes, Caroline groans and whips around to stare at the werewolf.
“Just because I tell you things, doesn’t mean you’re allowed to know them,” She exclaims at him to which he apologizes.
“I gotta run if I’m gonna change and pick up Sophie in time,” He says as he waves goodbye to me.
“Wait, you’re bringing a date? Slutty Sophie is your date,” Caroline asks and I frown at the nickname she gave her.
“Hey,” Tyler turns around, “It’s been kinda slow in that department. And… I’m horny all the time now.”
“Ya, tell me about it. Sometimes I feel like I’m gonna explode” Caroline agrees and I gag out loud.
“Ok, has no one here ever heard of too much information,” I say as I make a show of covering my ears. I go back to decorating trying to block out the obvious sexual tension between the vampire and wolf as they talk about their sex lives, or lack of.
“Bye Y/N,” Tyler’s voice calls out to me and I just wave him off, which makes him laugh.
I turn around and watch Tyler walk out of the room and then I turn to my blonde friend, “Well, that was painful to watch…and hear.”
Caroline groans and throws the cups she has in her hands back onto the table in front of us, “Tell me about it. I just…ugh, I don’t know,” She groans in annoyance again as she picks up some streamers and tape.
“Can we talk about something else, please?”
I laugh slightly at her pleading tone and nod, “Sure, what about?”
Caroline thinks for a moment before turning to me and smirking, “About the guy you’re bringing tonight.”
I roll my eyes at the insinuation in her voice, “It’s not like that at all. Alastair is a work friend. He’s new to town and I thought he could use some more friends.”
“Is he cute,” She raises her eyebrows suggestively and I shoot her a look.
“Some might say that but I’m not into him like that, and he’s definitely not into me like that either,” I respond.
“And how would you know that,” She questions.
I think back to all the times I’ve seen him ogling the male customers at work and smile to myself, “Just a hunch.”
“When did you meet the guy again?”
“Around the start of the summer when I started working at The Grill. He got a job right after me and we’ve been put on the same schedules at pretty much the same times, oddly enough. He moved from Louisana, I believe.”
Caroline nods, “And he doesn’t know about…you know what?”
I shake my head, “As far as I can tell he’s a perfectly normal NON-supernatural guy.”
“Unlike Elijah right,” I glare at Caroline because of her comment which only makes the smirk on her face deepen.
“And unlike Tyler, right,” I smirk back at her and we both drop the subject on both of those men. Caroline got the jist about my little “friendship” or whatever it was with Elijah when she, Elena, and I, accidentally got into Jenna’s wine supply a few weeks ago. He also told me about her confusing feelings about Tyler.
“Okay fine, changing the subject again,” She thinks to herself before frowning and looking at me, “Wait…when did you say your birthday was again?”
I frown at the question, “I didn’t say it.”
Caroline shoots her hands up in the air like a mad woman, “Well then tell me, hoe!”
I fight back a groan at her question and I don't want to answer but knowing Caroline she won’t stop bringing it up unless I tell her, “It was a few weeks ago.”
Caroline stares at me in shock as she drops the streams she currently holding. A wee bit dramatic might I add.
“Excuse me! Why didn’t you tell anyone,” She practically screeches at me.
I shrug as I go back to untangling the lights I’ve been working on, “Elena has asked but I always just brush it off. Damon also knows, but he doesn’t celebrate birthdays either so I didn’t have to worry about him throwing me a party.”
Caroline’s eyes practically fall out of her head at my words, “So you did absolutely nothing for your birthday!?”
I just shake my head as if it’s nothing, “I don’t ever celebrate my birthday, Care. I haven't in years… I mean Damon and I had a pizza night, but other than that, no not really.”
Caroline continues to stare at me in shock as she comes over to me and throws her hands onto my shoulders, “Y/N Y/M/N Y/L/N I solemnly swear I will be throwing you a huge 18th birthday party very soon. And it will make you change your mind about not celebrating.”
I go to argue but she puts a finger to my lips, “Hush hoe. I’ve already started planning in my head.”
Someone kill me now.
“Well, don't you just look Darling,” Damon's sarcastic voice sounds from behind me as I flatten out my dark blue dress.
I turn around and see him wearing the same color top, “We’re matching!”
Damon looks at his top and then the color of my dress and groans, “You really need to move out. We’re starting to become the same person.”
I frown slightly at his comment and I think he notices because he clears his throat, “That was a joke, Pukey. You practically have already made this entire place yours I doubt you’re moving out anytime soon.”
“And yet you still won’t let me paint the walls,” I gesture to the wooden walls of my bedroom.
Damon shoots me a glare as he raises his arm for me to take, “The wood on these walls costs more than some of the houses in this town. I’d rather die than let you paint them.”
I walk over and grab his arm and he leads me out of my room and down the hall where I can hear dozens of people yelling and music blaring.
“Did you find anything about-” Damon shushes me before I can finish my sentence.
“No talk about that tonight. Only happy drunk thoughts tonight,” I want to argue but I notice the tension in his shoulders and drop the topic for a later time.
“Where’s the birthday girl?”
Damon slightly glares at the young teens that surround us, “With Blondey. Somewhere.”
“Y/N!”
The sound of someone calling my name has me turning around. I smile once I’ve found the caller. Alastair’s bright smile shines at me as he pushes through the hordes of people. His dark skin contrasts beautifully with the white button-up shirt he’s wearing. Dark slacks cover his long legs and I have to fight back a laugh at how put together he looks compared to the rest of the people around us who look like they picked out the first piece of clothing they could find in their closets.
Alastair slightly grabs me out of Damon’s arms and brings me into a hug, “You look beautiful.”
His compliment makes a warm feeling coat my cheeks as I look at him. “You don't look so bad yourself,” And I’m not lying either. He’s shaved down his hair again since the last time I saw him so he’s rocking a buzz cut that makes him appear even more striking and his dark brown eyes sparkle against the bright lights that Caroline and I had previously hung up around the house.
“I fear I might’ve overdone it a bit. It has been awhile since I’ve been to a highschool party” He jokes as he gestures toward his attire.
“You think,” Damon’s sarcastic tone has me turning to glare at him.
“Alastair this is Damon,” I gesture to the man beside me.
Alastair who is usually all smiles seems to glare at the vampire next to me for a moment before brightly smiling at him, “Pleasure to meet you, Damon.”
Damon just stares at him for a moment, “Y/N lives here with me. So if I find you in her room later I will kill you,” He threatens and then shoots him a fake smile, “Other than that, enjoy the party.”
My eyes practically fly out of my head as I watch Damon’s retreating figure leave the room and I quickly turn back to Alastair to apologize.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s good he’s protective over you,” He smiles at me and reaches out his hand for me to take, “Want to get a drink?”
“Oh definitely,” I sigh dramatically as I put my hand in his.
We start walking but I catch Alastair and a blonde guy staring at each other as we walk by him. I smirk to myself and then look up to my friend with a raised eyebrow.
“Not a word,” He laughs out.
“I didn’t say anything!”
Alastair rolls his eyes as we approach the refreshments table and he hands me a bottle of water and I shoot him a questioning look.
“We’re so not drinking whatever is in that punch. Who knows if someone spiked it with something? Water is a safe choice,” I begin to laugh thinking he’s joking but at the serious look on my friend’s face I stop.
“A little worried are you?”
“There’s nothing wrong with being a little cautious,” He opens up my bottle of water for me and smiles, “Also what’s with the text I got from your blonde friend this afternoon about you having a birthday party?”
I groan loudly and I can hear Alastair laugh, “How did she even get your number?”
He shrugs his shoulders, “I’d like to know as well,” He looks down at me for a moment then frowns, “You really didn’t tell anyone about your birthday?”
I just shrug, “I told Damon. But other than that no. I don’t celebrate it, and whatever Caroline is planning you definitely don’t have to come.”
Alastair shakes his head defiantly, “Oh you bet your ass I’ll be there. Going to get you a pretty present with a bow and everything.”
I put my head in my hands and sighed, “I hate you.”
Alastair laughs and takes my hands away from my face, “You love me and now you’re going to dance with me.”
I’m surprised at the strength of my friend as he leads me to the dance floor that's filled with teens dancing and grinding together.
“You sure you don’t want to go and find that blonde guy,” I yell to him over the music and he rolls his eyes.
“You’re stuck with me, babe. I’m not going anywhere”
—-
“Call me if you need anything alright,” Alastair says to me as I walk him to his car. After dancing for about an hour the party started to die down when people couldn’t find the hostess or the birthday girl.
“I’m going to see you tomorrow at work. I think I’ll be fine until then,” I smile at him as he gets into his car.
“I know, just making sure you know you can call me for anything,” He says through his open window as he starts his car.
“I know.”
“Ok, I’ll wait for you to get back inside before leaving,” He nods towards the front door.
“Ok, bye,” I wave to him and start walking to the front door, I turn to look over my shoulder and find that he hasn’t taken his focus off me for a second it makes me unnerved but I shake it off and open the front door.
As soon as I step a foot inside I hear the squealing of tires and I turn to see Alastair peeling out of the driveway. Guess someone’s in a rush.
I walk into the living room and sigh as I see the damage that was done by the hordes of kids. Bottles and trash line the walls as streamers and the decorations we had worked so hard to put up are lying all around the floor. I start to walk down the steps to start picking up when a loud bang comes from upstairs.
I frown as I start walking towards the stairs, but as soon as I hear another loud bang I start running. I find myself in front of Damon’s bedroom as I watch the vampire throw and break anything he can get his hands on. I call out to him but he seems to be in his own world of destruction right now. I start to approach him like someone would a rabid animal and I freeze as he turns to look at me. Dark veins appear under his eyes as he glares at me. He starts walking towards me and I put up my hands.
“Damon, what’s wrong? What happened,” He gets closer and I’m about to run off but he grabs me. I shriek escapes my mouth before I realize what he's doing. He's hugging me.
“Damon? What’s wrong,” I slowly wrap my hands around his waist as he holds me tighter. Almost tight enough to bruise, “What happened?”Damon is quiet for a moment before he whispers out a growl, “Stefan.”

Wednesday, February 24th; 8:30 AM - Lucy's Apartment.
I groaned as the alarm echoed through the room. It’s way too early, especially considering how late we got home last night. I buried my head in the pillow, while my wonderful girlfriend chuckled. Unsurprisingly, when I turned to face her, she was already fully awake.
"Do you think this is funny?" I mumbled.
"A little bit," she teased. "Good morning..."
I smiled as she leaned in to kiss me. I love our morning kiss, even though it’s not the best one of the day. A slight headache began to take hold. It wasn’t the most pleasant wake-up, though far from the worst.
"What do you want for breakfast?" she asked, getting out of bed.
"Stay," I groaned.
"As much as I’d like to, we have to pick up your little brother in an hour," she said, changing from shorts into a new pair of joggers. "We shouldn’t be late, right? You only have yourself to blame for wanting to stay up so late."
"At least I didn’t drink until I was wasted," I teased, hugging the pillow closer.
"You’d better not have. I would’ve made you sleep on the couch if you had."
"I don’t believe you," I teased again.
"You should. I would’ve done it without any guilt."
I stuck out my tongue at her, which only made her smile smugly. She came back over to give me another quick kiss.
"Don’t take too long, okay?"
"I’ll try my best... Can you make me some toast this morning?"
"Of course."
We exchanged smiles before she left the room. I love our life together. It feels like we’ve been living together for years. Everything is so ordinary, far from anything that could bother us. I stretched out once more before lying on my back. Today is going to be long and busy, but so perfect. Our little bubble will be interrupted with Joan’s arrival, but I’m excited to see him again. I forced myself out of bed and, unlike Lucy, didn’t change before joining her. I smiled when I saw her making the toast I’d asked for.
"I expected you to join me much later."
"I had a good teacher for getting out of bed."
"Oh, please. I only threw you out of bed once," she teased.
"After throwing a glass of water on me, if I remember correctly. The other times, you made me run outside. I’m not sure which was worse."
She laughed heartily as I joined her in setting the table. I didn’t find it funny at all. I went through a lot because of her. There’s a reason I didn’t like her at first, now that she reminded me.
"Stop laughing."
"Oh, come on. Admit it, it was funny."
"No, it wasn’t," I pouted. "You really pushed me to the limit."
"Those are good memories. I can’t wait to tell our grandkids about our first meeting someday."
"Of course," I giggled. "Let’s focus on having kids first, before thinking about grandkids."
"You’re right. We’ll get there one day."
"Mm-hmm."
I approached her and hugged her from behind. She leaned back against me, and I took the opportunity to kiss her shoulder. I slowly moved up to her neck, lightly biting a few spots without leaving any marks. Mine had finally faded, and I was glad about that. Knowing Joan, he would’ve asked what it was, and I wouldn’t have known how to explain it to him at his age.
"Thanks for agreeing to have my brother over for a few days."
"It’s no problem. I was surprised your mom let him come alone, though," she admitted.
"Me too... It seems the airport reassured her by saying he’d be accompanied the whole time. Plus, she knows how attentive I am with him, so nothing can really happen to him with us. And, I feel like she trusts you more than she trusts me," I chuckled.
"She shouldn’t, though. You’re way better with kids than I am."
"Nonsense. You work with teens all day."
"They’re students, which means they’re almost adults. It’s not the same at all."
"Well, let me tell you, we’re way worse than innocent kids."
"That’s debatable. I’ve always found kids to be quite devious... Though Joan isn’t like that, thankfully."
I giggled at her thinking. She must not have been around many good kids. I let go of her waist when I saw she was finishing up the toast. I quickly poured her coffee and heated up my hot chocolate. Then I joined her at the table, where she had brought all sorts of toppings.
"So, you don’t like kids, huh?" I asked as I began my breakfast.
"I didn’t say that," she rolled her eyes. "I don’t like spoiled, badly-behaved kids. That’s all."
"Or cheeky ones, huh?" I teased.
She laughed, knowing full well that I was referring to myself. She used to say that about me, and it wasn’t in a pleasant tone.
"Or cheeky ones, indeed. But they can be redeemed after a few laps around the track."
"Ha ha ha!"
"Isn’t it true?"
"Maybe. But I wasn’t cheeky."
"Oh yes, you were," she teased. "You had a comeback for everything I said."
"Well, you were really hard on me. I mean, you were very direct with me... And I hated it. That’s why I didn’t like you at first."
"You didn’t like me because I dared to tell you things to your face, and that’s exactly what you needed, right? You needed someone like me to help you understand and make an impact on you."
"You’re probably right... Your words made me think a lot at the beginning. I felt like crap," I admitted shyly.
"That was kind of the goal... At least, by insisting and being so harsh with my words, I wanted you to realize who you had become. It was obvious you weren’t a bad person. Circumstances made you that way."
I smiled softly at her, nodding. I love when Lucy shares her thoughts with me. She’s so good at reading people, a quality few possess. I, for example, don’t have it. I couldn’t tell who has a good or bad heart. At first, I saw the good in everyone, but since Feli, that’s changed.
"Do you think everyone has a good side?" I asked thoughtfully.
"I think everyone has both good and bad sides. It’s just that one tends to come out more than the other at certain times."
"Yeah, okay. But do you think someone can become good again after being bad? Like Korbin, for example."
She seemed to think for a moment, dipping her toast in her coffee before taking a bite. She took her time chewing and swallowing before replying.
"Well... It’s hard to say with that example. Korbin grew up in a tough environment. The people you saw in Wiegman’s office last time weren’t her real parents, but her foster family. Some people don’t have a choice about who they become. Even though she was taken out of her old neighborhood, I can guarantee that once she feels ready, she’ll go back there."
"You think so?" I asked, surprised. « Why? »
- Because that's what her parents decided. In neighborhoods like that, families have reputations to uphold. If she doesn't go back, she'll be shunned for the rest of her life and disowned by her family.
- That's really not cool, I grimaced.
- That's life... Not everyone has a choice, she replied with a shrug.
- Is that what she told you?
- Yeah. You weren't my only student, you know.
- Really? I thought I was the only one, I admitted.
- No, she shook her head. You weren't the only one, but you were definitely the most important. Wiegman wanted me to focus on you. To do that, she let some go early and reassigned others to Ingrid.
- Oh... What about Korbin?
- Wiegman let her go early. The more I think about it, I believe she took it out on you to get back at me. She must have felt betrayed and abandoned since I was the first person she ever opened up to.
All the hatred I had for her almost turns into pity now. Even though her actions are unforgivable, I can understand them. I would have reacted the same way if I were in her shoes. What I don’t understand is why Lucy was so adamant about her leaving Camp Wiegman, even though she knew about her issues.
- Why did you insist on having her leave Camp Wiegman if you thought she still needed help?
- As I just told you, some people don’t have a choice and decide they don’t want to be saved. That was Korbin’s case. Unlike you, she didn’t want to be saved because she already knew her future. I can guarantee she’ll be on the wrong side her whole life, and keeping her at school would have put you in danger.
- Y-you wanted her gone to protect me?
- Of course, she replied as if it was obvious. You specifically, but also all the other students. Her group of friends will have you in their sights for a while since you got their leader expelled. But don’t worry. You don’t have anything to fear. You’ll be watched, just like them.
- What do you mean, watched? I asked, frowning.
- The entire teaching staff and the instructors are aware. They won’t let anything happen, trust me, they know.
- OK... I murmured. Why are they even here if they’re so dangerous?
- Everyone deserves a chance, right? she smiled. Some of them won’t follow Korbin’s path. Take Athenea, for example. Ingrid was in charge of her, and she plans to continue her studies after school.
- Really? I was surprised. She doesn’t seem very smart... I said without thinking.
Lucy laughed and shook her head.
- Believe me, she’s smarter than she seems. She wasn’t just the little girl following Korbin around. If she let people think that, it was to get Korbin’s protection within their group. I wonder how things will go for her now that Korbin is gone.
- People are really crazy, I sighed.
- Oh yes, she giggled. More than you think. Well, I’m going to take a shower. Can you clean up in the meantime?
- Yeah, but I need to shower too, so hurry up.
- Then go first. You take longer than I do.
- Hey!
- What? It’s the truth, she teased as she headed to the kitchen.
I stuck out my tongue at her while bringing my cup and some topping jars like Nutella and jam to the kitchen.
- That’s mean, I commented.
- Oh, please. It’s not the worst thing I’ve said to you, she laughed.
I was about to pretend to sulk, but she pulled me back and held me firmly against her. Her lips quickly found their way to my neck, which I instinctively tucked in.
- Sorry. I take it back, she said with a hint of amusement.
- You’re only saying that so I’ll stop sulking.
- Is it working?
- You wish, you fool.
She laughed, turning me around so we could face each other. She kissed me so intensely that I stepped back until I felt the countertop against my lower back. I was about to go in for another kiss when we barely separated to breathe, but she gently pulled away.
- Shower, she reminded me with one word.
I groaned in frustration, knowing she was right. We can easily get lost in the moment, and now is not the time given our schedule. Still, I gave her one last kiss before heading to the bathroom. I can’t wait to hug my little brother.
Wednesday, February 24; 10:30 AM - Manchester Airport
My foot bounces in rhythm with the seconds as I watch the display board counting down the minutes until the plane lands. The wait is so stressful for me, and apparently for Lucy too, who finally places her hand on my knee.
- Stop that, she grumbled.
- It’s taking forever!
- Fidgeting won’t make the wait any shorter. It’ll just annoy me.
She raised an eyebrow in a threatening way. I bit my lip and stopped moving my foot. I don’t like it when she looks at me like that, even if I deserve it. She let out a sigh of relief and turned her attention back to her phone. I looked back at the display board to see how much time had passed. Fifteen minutes. I’m definitely going to die before it reaches zero. My excitement is at its peak. I’ve missed Joan so much. I hope his flight went well since he was traveling alone. A flight attendant was supposed to accompany him from the beginning to the end of the boarding process, so everything should have gone smoothly. However, I’m not sure if it’s Shay.
- The girls are asking if we want to have dinner together tonight, Lucy announced, snapping me out of my daydream. Is that okay with you?
- Yeah, of course. Joan will be happy to see them again. We could also invite Alexia and Jenni. I know Ale has always wanted to meet him, so this would be a good opportunity. But I’d avoid inviting the other girls. They might scare him, I giggled.
- Okay. I’ll suggest they come to our place then. It’ll be more relaxed.
- Do you have enough to cook?
- If not, we’ll go grocery shopping or order pizzas. I don’t have to ask if Joan likes them, do I?
- He loves them, I said with a smile. But we already had some this weekend.
- That’s true... We could order Chinese instead?
- Owh. I’m not sure he’d like that. Oh, what if we made crepes? That’s a good idea, right?
- We could, but I thought you wanted to take Joan around the city? We won’t have time to do both.
- That’s true... But it’s not like he’s going to be interested in the city’s architecture at his age. A cooking session would be more fun for him, I think.
- Okay, we’ll go shopping then. Crepes it is?
- Yep. We’ll save your pizzas for next time.
- Alright, she teased softly. We’ll do that next time. I know how much you love them.
I smiled and nodded as she ran her hand through my hair, gently stroking it.
- A lot. If it were up to me, we’d have them again tonight, I confessed.
- You know, you can have them whenever you want now.
- I know, I sighed. That’s why I’m not pushing it. It wouldn’t be reasonable.
- Since when are you reasonable?
- Hey! I protested.
- What? she smiled mischievously. Want to know something? I’ve always loved your innocence.
- Really? I’ve never claimed to be an adult.
- Oh, I know that. Well, your innocence is part of why I love you.
The spontaneity of her words always gets to me. Plus, she continued to stroke my hair as if nothing had happened. Eventually, she stopped and kissed the corner of my mouth before getting up.
- Now that I’ve kept your mind occupied, it’s time to welcome your brother, right?
I looked up at the screen to see, to my surprise, that there were only two minutes left. I quickly stood up. My girlfriend pulled me close, wrapping her arm around my shoulders, and kissed my temple. Instinctively, I wrapped my arm around her lower back.
- Does that amuse you? I murmured into her neck when I heard her chuckle.
- A little. You’re very impatient, but so easy to distract.
- You knew the whole time, didn’t you? About tonight?
- Since we left the house. I said yes and already invited Jenni and Alexia.
Since my head was still nestled in her neck, I smiled freely. I can’t tell if I appreciate or dislike that she always knows what I want in advance. Since it wasn’t the time to debate it, I simply lifted my head from her neck.
- And you’re way too organized and decisive.
- Decisive, really? she laughed. I always gave you a choice.
- At school, you would always let me choose between two options, knowing full well which one I would pick.
"Well, it's true that I didn't give you much choice back there," she chuckles. "But it was for your own good."
I would have replied, but my attention is drawn to the people disembarking from the flight we've been waiting for. I step away from Lucy and move as close as possible to the others. Lucy quickly follows, keeping her hand on my back. I'm scanning for Joan, but I don't see anyone yet. I start to feel impatient as I realize we're nearing the end. Finally, I spot him holding the hand of a flight attendant. I smile, recognizing Shay. The message seems to have been passed along, which eases my mind. At least I know he was well taken care of and likely had a good flight. Shay looks surprised when my brother points me out to her, and he tries to break free to run to us, but Shay keeps hold of him. She only lets go when they're about a meter away, allowing my brother to run toward me. I kneel down to catch him and lift him into my arms, letting him hug me tightly.
"Ona!"
"Hey, sweetheart. Did you have a good flight?"
"Yeah, but it was long!"
"Oh, I bet it was," I chuckle. "Hey," I say, addressing Shay as she approaches, "were you the one looking after him?"
"Yes, I was asked to specifically, but now that I see you, I understand why."
I smile softly, glancing at Lucy, who has been quietly standing behind me this whole time, tracing patterns on my back with her fingers. I remember she talked to my mom about this just yesterday, ensuring Joan would have someone for the flight. For some reason, my mom insisted on having Lucy's contact information. Given what happened last time she found me, I guess it makes sense. Now she wants to be informed if anything unusual happens. I think it was just an excuse, but Lucy didn't mind, so I didn't argue. It’s strange knowing they’re in touch, but at least I know Lucy gets along well with my family. She’s even won over my brother, who is now asking to be held by my girlfriend. Lucy doesn’t hesitate to pick him up. The sight of them together warms my heart.
"Thank you," I say sincerely to Shay. "So, everything went well?"
"Yes, yes. He got very impatient toward the end, but overall, it went smoothly. Is he family?"
"He's my little brother," I reply. "Thanks for taking care of him."
"No problem, it’s my job. He was adorable. When’s his return flight?"
"Saturday at two o’clock."
"I’ll be on that flight too, so I can make sure he’s okay."
"My best friend will be with him, but it’s great to know. Thanks."
"It’s no trouble. Well, have a great weekend."
"Thanks, you too."
I turn back to the two most precious people in my life as Shay leaves. Joan is now on the ground, firmly holding my girlfriend’s hand.
"Are we going, Ona?" he asks, reaching out her other hand to me.
"Let’s go," I confirm. "We’ll just grab your suitcase first, and then we can finally enjoy ourselves."
With a big smile and a full heart, the three of us walk through the airport. I’m so happy to have Joan with us. These three days with them are going to be amazing. My mom couldn’t have given me a better gift.
Wednesday, February 24; 11:30 AM - Supermarket
"Is this good, Ona?" he asks, showing me a pack of gruyère cheese.
"Yep. You can put it in here," I say, handing him the basket. "Okay, let’s go find Lucy now."
After our little battle earlier over crepes, here we are doing the grocery shopping. When my brother heard the word, it was nearly impossible to get it out of his head. According to him, it’s been ages since he last had them, which was funny to hear. Knowing my mom, that’s probably almost true. When I was still living at home, we barely ever had them. To speed things up, we split up to find the ingredients.
"Are your new friends nice?" Joan asks, taking my hand again.
"They are, sweetie. You don’t need to worry," I reassure him. "And Mapi will be there too."
"Really?" he says excitedly. "She’s here too?"
"Yes," I giggle. "And Ingrid will be there. Do you remember her?"
"Mapi’s girlfriend?"
"Yes," I confirm with a smile. "She was nice, wasn’t she?"
"Mm-hmm."
We told him the news for tonight. He was a little nervous at first, but he wasn’t opposed to the idea. As we leave our aisle, I freeze for a moment when I see someone in front of us.
"Damn it," I mutter.
"You said a bad word, Ona."
"Yeah, I know, and that’s not good. Come on, hurry," I say, pulling her along.
"Why?"
I don’t answer and rush into the next aisle to find Lucy. I’m relieved to still see her here, choosing the last of the savory items.
"Lucy!"
"Hmm?" she responds indifferently.
"We need to leave!"
"Why?"
"I ran into Leah."
"What?" she frowns. "She lives in the center. What would she be doing here?"
"I swear, she was—"
"Ona?"
Both Lucy and I freeze. I was sure I saw her correctly, but the voice isn’t Leah’s. I look past Lucy to see Alessia at the other end of the aisle. I couldn’t say which of the two is worse to run into.
"Hey," I say with a forced smile.
"What are you doing here?" she asks, starting to walk toward us. "I thought you were in Barcelona."
Lucy points behind her, and I quickly understand she wants to take advantage of Alessia’s back being turned to slip away. I step aside to let her pass and move toward Alessia, but she groans, making me turn around to see Leah this time. We’re completely trapped, and to make matters worse, Joan tugs at my arm to get my attention.
"Who is that, Ona?" he whispers, pressing himself against me.
"Ona? B-Bronze?" Leah says in surprise. "What are you two doing here together?"
Her voice rises with a hint of anger, making me sigh. Joan starts to get scared of the newcomers and clings even more tightly to me. He asks to be picked up, so I do. Now, we’re face-to-face with both Leah and Alessia, who are staring at us. Alessia is the first to grasp what’s happening, breaking into a huge grin.
"No way! You and Bronze!? Was it her all this time?"
I groan as Lucy gives me a hard look.
"Don’t look at me like that. I never said anything about you."
"Really?" she arches an eyebrow. "That’s not what it seems like!"
"I figured it out on my own that there was someone in her life. She never confirmed it or gave me a name," Alessia defends me.
It’s Lucy’s turn to sigh. I hope she’s not too upset with me, even though I didn’t do anything wrong.
"Sorry," Alessia apologizes. "I just didn’t expect us to get found out here."
"Well, you’re crazy for hanging out together like this!" Leah scolds us. "There are plenty of students from Manchester, including us! Imagine if you ran into someone else!"
"Excuse me, Leah, but this is the first time I’ve ever seen students in my neighborhood," Lucy retorts, full of bitterness. "I should be the one asking what you’re doing here. You live downtown, and we’re in a small convenience store. The odds should have been very slim."
I chuckle at Lucy’s visible annoyance. I knew she wasn’t a fan of surprises, but this must be the last straw for her. My reaction doesn’t seem to please her, judging by the stern look she gives me. Even Joan is scared and clings to me more tightly. I understand him completely; I know how it feels to get on Lucy’s bad side.
"Relax," Alessia responds. "It’s not like we have anything against Ona or that we’re going to snitch on you. We were just surprised, right, Leah?"
"Hmm," she grumbles. "Dating is still risky," she insists.
Her comment earns her an elbow from her sister, as they’ve since switched places. It was unexpected to see them, but on the other hand, I feel relieved not to have to hide such a big secret from them anymore. I’ve gotten close to them since we’re in the same class, so it’s been pretty annoying to keep it from them. Especially since Alessia already had suspicions. I take this opportunity to ask her directly.
"You suspected it, didn’t you?"
"Yes," she admits with a small smile. "I didn’t want to push because every time we talked about it, you’d get angry."
Poor thing, I can’t even deny it. Alessia is very persistent, and it’s hard for me to handle since everyone else gives me the space I need. I remember she hesitated to bring up the topic during our last week of classes. It was probably to talk about Lucy. She was right not to ask me anything. I would have immediately shut down. Lucy sighs again, which prompts me to move closer and kiss her cheek.
"It’s okay, it’s fine."
"That makes three people, Ona," she says discontentedly.
"They’re my friends. Yours know too. I don’t see the problem."
"Mine aren’t at school. That’s the difference. And Leah’s right. I’m starting to think anyone could see us together if they can."
I wince as she abruptly pulls away. Without giving me time to respond, she takes the basket I was still holding and drops the ham inside.
"I’ll finish the shopping. Don’t take too long to join me."
No one dares argue with her as she walks away, clearly in a foul mood. I sigh, running my hand through my hair. This afternoon is likely to be tense now.
"Why is Lucy mad?" my little brother asks.
"Lucy?" Alessia repeats. "Oh... Bronze, I get it."
"Yeah... Another thing to keep to yourself. And don’t worry, Jo. It’ll be okay. »
- "She looks really scary like that," he whispered.
- "You haven't seen anything yet," Leah commented.
- "Stop it. Don’t scare him," I replied, frowning.
- "Is he your little brother?" Alessia asked.
- "Yes, this is Joan. He just arrived today, and he's going to spend a few days with us. Joan, this is Alessia and Leah. They're friends of mine from school."
His head, which was mostly buried in my neck, emerged to curiously look at them before he gave a shy smile when Alessia waved at him.
- "Will they be here tonight too?"
- "Uh... No, sorry," I giggled. "Maybe another time."
I adjusted her on my hip as I felt her starting to slip. Even though he's only six, he's slowly getting heavier.
- "Will everything be okay with Bronze?" Alessia grimaced. "We didn't mean to cause any trouble."
- "It’s fine, I’m starting to handle it," I reassured her with a small smile. "I'll let her cool off, and we’ll talk."
- "Sorry for getting carried away, but what I said was true," Leah continued.
- "I know. I think that's why she's upset, so don't take it personally. It’s just that you've brought up a major issue that didn’t exist before. We’ve been going out for a while, but we’ve never really paid attention to our surroundings."
- "For a while... you two?"
- "No, just a few weeks," I admitted honestly.
I could have gone into more detail, but I held back. After all, it’s a story that only concerns us. People don’t need to know that we went through ups and downs before getting together.
- "I thought it had been longer," Leah responded. "It seemed like you two had been circling around each other for a while."
- "It was a bit complicated for both of us at first," I stayed vague. "The most important thing is that we're together now."
- "And so you see each other outside of school?" Leah asked. "You’re both crazy. What if she dumps you because she's afraid of risking her career? We’ll have to pick up the pieces."
- "That’s not going to happen," I rolled my eyes. "We’re a solid couple."
- "Alexia’s girlfriend got fired. It could easily happen to Lucy."
- "And they’re still together. Anyway, I assure you, Lucy won’t dump me for that. But if you want her to be nice to you, I suggest you stop getting on her nerves. Especially since if we stay together, you'll have to deal with her in private, and it would bother me if you two didn’t get along."
- "Oh my God," Leah muttered as if imagining the scene. "Is she as annoying as she is at school?"
- "Of course not," I giggled. "She’s adorable with me."
- "I find it hard to picture her in 'adorable' mode," she repeated, mimicking quotation marks.
- "She certainly won’t be with you," I teased.
- "Hey, wait. If your brother is here, does that mean your parents know?"
- "My mom knows, yes. She found out when she came to see me after the fight with Korbin. She took it well and loved Lucy."
- "Wow. And she didn’t say anything?"
- "No. She was actually happy. Since my ex, I hadn’t opened up to anyone, and no one thought I’d get into another relationship so soon. She even invited Lucy to come with me to Barcelona three weeks ago."
- "Really?"
- "Yeah, they were on a weekend trip, so she told Lucy she could come along when she found out about us."
- "And what did you do during those holidays?" Leah asked. "I guess you didn’t go home."
- "No, we didn’t. We went to the Alps with her friends last week and then came back here. Alexia and Mapi are here too; they were with us."
- "Really?" she asked, raising an eyebrow. "Even Mapi?"
- "Uh... yeah," I giggled. "She’s dating Ingrid, or rather Engen. So she’s at her place. We’ll see them tonight... hence the shopping."
- "Oh my God," she muttered. "This is all way too complicated. You really have a knack for getting into crazy situations."
- "Oh, please, it’s nothing bad. Anyway, the school year is almost over."
- "Ona," Lucy called out sharply. "Let’s go."
I turned around to see her waiting for us with a full basket. It seemed like my chatting had given her time to get everything done by herself. I looked up to see her expression just as stern as when she left. It didn’t seem like she had much time to calm down.
- "Well, see you soon then."
- "Yeah," Alessia smiled. "Good luck, and see you in a few days."
I thanked them and said goodbye before joining Lucy. Surprisingly, she offered me her hand when I reached her. I took it and let her lead me to the checkout. Despite her gesture, I could still feel her tension. Once again, I kissed her cheek.
- "They won't say anything, I promise."
- "I know. That’s not what bothers me, but the way they found out. Leah is right in what she said. Besides, I would have preferred to wait until the end of the year for your school friends to find out. I don’t want them to see me as anything other than your superior. They’ll think I’m showing favoritism, and we both know that’s not the case."
- "Everyone knows I have a special relationship with you. They won’t think that."
- "Yes, they will. They already do now. How many times have they teased you or made comments about me, huh?"
I blushed slightly, shrugging. Far too many times to count, really. As I just said, they know we have a special relationship. It’s no secret given how she acts differently with me than with other students. So, I often get gently teased about her. When we got to the conveyor belt, I put Joan down, and he was the first to start placing our items on the belt. Poor little thing. I had completely neglected him since our encounter with my friends.
- "Anyway, it’s done now," Lucy concluded.
- "Please don’t be in a bad mood. Not after these past few weeks, and I don’t want Joan to be scared of you. If you need to blow off steam, do it only in front of me."
She gave me a soft smile and surprised me by leaning in to kiss me.
- "That wasn’t my intention... I’m sorry for being so moody, but you can’t really blame me. You know as well as I do that we need to be more careful now."
- "Yes, you’re right. There's no such thing as zero risk, so I’m not going to argue about it, Lucy. If you decide we shouldn’t go out anymore, I’ll accept it."
- "No, I was just joking," I laughed. "I wouldn’t go that far. Besides, apart from coming here or to The United, we haven’t really gone out in Manchester."
- "We’ve visited your secret spots, the park, and even some galleries."
- "Don’t twist my words," she said, rolling her eyes. "If we take the park out of the equation, those aren’t places where we’re likely to run into students."
- "True," I giggled. "Thanks, though. I really expected you to stop us from going out."
- "Of course not," she smiled, gently pulling me into her arms. "Anyway, there are only a few months left. If I get fired, it won’t be dramatic since I plan on leaving next year anyway."
- "But that would bother me..." I admitted.
- "We’ll make sure that doesn’t happen, I promise. But just know that if it does, it won’t be the end of the world. I’ll leave without causing any fuss, and it won’t change our relationship."
I smiled against her lips as she kissed me firmly. This was exactly what I told Leah earlier. Lucy won’t leave me. We laughed softly as we pulled away when I heard Joan make a sound of disgust.
- "That’s really gross."
- "Hey, watch your language," I gently reprimanded him.
He shrugged like a cheeky little boy before turning his back on us and moving toward the cashier when it was our turn. I was stunned. He had never behaved like this with me before. I was starting to think that what Sam or Sofia told me when I left wasn’t exaggerated. Lucy snapped me out of my stupor with a soft giggle.
- "Are you still sure you want kids later?" she teased.
I groaned in displeasure, making her laugh even more. The surprise was such that I didn’t even know how to react. Finally, I moved forward to help pack our groceries. I listened to Lucy continue talking about tonight, but I looked up when I felt someone watching us. I realized it was true when I caught Alessia’s eyes observing us from afar. I gave her a gentle smile before my attention was drawn back to Lucy, who waved a hand in front of my eyes.
- "Are you listening to me?"
- "No, sorry. What were you saying?"
She raised an eyebrow, clearly not expecting that answer.
- "What’s got you so distracted?"
Before she could even look up to see Alessia, Joan chimed in with an answer.
- "It’s her friend from earlier. She’s been watching us since before."
Lucy narrowed her eyes slightly before looking at me as if expecting confirmation. I shrugged indifferently, not finding the information particularly important. She then turned to my brother.
- "Really? And how was she looking at us?"
- "Luce-"
I stopped when I saw her raised hand, signaling me to be quiet. I placed our last item in the basket just as Lucy pulled out her credit card. I felt a bit guilty letting her pay for everything, but she insisted.
- "She was looking at Ona a lot. Kind of like Emma at my school. My friends say she wants to be my girlfriend but is too scared to talk to me."
I didn’t know what to think or what to worry about more after hearing that revealing statement. Joan is only in first grade, so it’s strange that he’s already talking about girlfriends, even if it’s harmless at that age. Lucy, however, seemed to have made her choice on the most important subject to discuss.
- "Is she still interested in you?" she surprised me by asking.
- "We’re friends," I replied. "I’ve always made it clear I’m not interested."
- "That wasn’t my question, Ona."
I sighed, shrugging as she put away her credit card after paying. As I’ve said many times, I’m not the best at reading people.
- "I don’t know," I admitted. "But if she still had hope, I think she just lost it."
She nodded, taking my free hand. The other was busy holding our packed shopping basket. Before we headed toward the exit, she pressed her lips firmly against mine, prolonging the kiss as if to make sure we were seen. That was definitely her intention.
- "I hope so. Because I’m not sharing you. You’re mine."
I blushed, discovering this new side of her that I hadn’t known before. With Feli, I hated her possessiveness, but it’s a different story with Lucy. I felt warm and reassured at the same time.
- "Why do you think I was never interested in her?" I retorted. "If I hadn’t met you first, I might have given her a chance."
My honesty caught her attention immediately. I’d be lying if I said Alessia isn’t my type. Besides her persistence, we have a lot in common. Lucy was about to respond, but I quickly cut her off before she got the wrong idea.
- "You already had too much of a hold on my mind for me to look elsewhere, darling. No matter what I might have done before meeting you, know that no one can compare to you now. You’re the only one I need and want."
I could say so many wonderful things about her to make her understand that since we met, nothing has been the same for me. She managed to fix me and bring back a missing part of my life. If she were to leave, it would be like losing a part of my soul. I realized that when we were apart.
- "I’m sorry. It’s just that I’m afraid you’ll find someone better than me."
- "That’s not going to happen."
The thoughtful expression she had disappeared, finally replaced by a wonderful little smile. She gently pulled me close and kissed my temple.
- "I know, I’m sorry. I love you, my love."
I closed my eyes for a few seconds, smiling in return. I didn’t know what she had been thinking, but it seemed I had managed to change her mind. As for me, I really couldn’t have dreamed of a better new life. If only she knew how much I care about her. She is my everything.

The Gorgon Chapter 5
Summary:  The village nearest the mountain by the sea has a generations-old tradition of offering sacrifices to the monster in the mountain to gain favor and keep its wrath away from the people.  Every person starting from the age of 15 has to take a turn in making the journey up the mountain to the mouth of the cave once a year to drop off the gifts…and it’s a journey that some never come back from.  Y/N took her turn when she was 15, and now the rotation has come back to her again.  If the gift isn’t given by the autumn solstice, there’s no telling what harm the creature will wreak onto the people.  With a seemingly insurmountable obstacle in her way, will she make it to save her and her people?  Can a monster have a heart?
Warnings:  language, violence, attempted sexual assault (not from Bucky), gore, eventual smut *monster!bucky barnes

Bucky stayed with her from then on.  She had him help around the bakery, introducing him to her regular patrons as a friend who came to visit her.  He slept in her bed, and as close as they had become, and with how curious Bucky was to learn about his new body, they hadn’t done much more than kissing and touching.  She continued to teach him all about living a normal human life, as well as some more reading and writing lessons.  He was getting used to it quickly, and loved getting to be around people and talk to others.  Before they knew it another month had gone by and Master Stark approached Y/N one day in the bakery.
“Miss Y/L/N,” he greeted her.  “Do you need help getting anything together for your next sacrifice?”
Y/N’s eyes widened and Bucky stiffened behind her.  “Oh, um, no.  I think I’ve got everything I need.”
“When will you be leaving?” he asked, glancing at Bucky behind her, who was facing away and kneading dough.
“I…in a few days,” she said carefully.  “If I think of anything that I need assistance with I’ll let you know.”
“Wonderful,” Stark smiled widely at her.  “I’ll take a loaf while I’m here.”
Y/N nodded as she wrapped a loaf of bread for him.  He paid her and left shortly afterwards.  Y/N exhaled once the door closed behind him then turned to look at Bucky who was already looking at her.  “What do we do?” he asked.
“I don’t know,” she shook her head.  “We could both go?”
“I don’t want to go back there,” Bucky shook his head frantically.  “I want to stay here with you.”
“I’m not saying you would stay there and not come back with me,” Y/N reassured him.
Bucky sighed, looking out the window watching the people walk by.  “Why can’t we just tell the people what I am?” he asked.
Y/N frowned.  She didn’t know how the people would react if they found out that Bucky wasn’t just another man.  They seemed amenable to the fact that the monster in the mountain had saved her and had been kind to her, but that didn’t mean that finding out the monster could shapeshift and had been living among them for a month would be taken as lightly.  She sighed as she tried to think through the options.  “I’m afraid of their reactions,” she said.  “I don’t know how they will treat you if they find out.”
Bucky frowned as well and looked down at his feet.  “I could reveal myself,” he said.  “That way if they try to do anything I could get away more easily.”
Y/N’s frown deepened.  “But you’re not completely immortal now,” she said.  “What if they hurt you as a Gorgon?  Would you heal?”
Bucky stared at her.  “I don’t know.  I don’t know how any of this works now, with it being so long in this form.”
Y/N closed her eyes, her fingers rubbing her temples.  “I think…let me talk to someone,” she said, her eyes flying open as she thought of something.  She grabbed the key to the front door and locked it, putting up a sign saying they were closed before turning to him.  “Stay here.”
“Where are you going?” he asked worriedly.
“I’ll be right back,” Y/N said, walking back to him and holding his face in her hands.
Bucky sighed again but nodded before leaning down and kissing her.  Y/N kissed him back and smiled before heading out the back door.
***
Y/N really didn’t like coming to the Seers if she didn’t have to.  The way they spoke in riddles and rhymes always grated on her last nerve when all she wanted was a straight answer.  She knocked on the door to their shared home at the witchery and waited.  There was a scuffling sound and then the door swung open to reveal Wanda.  She smiled and hummed at Y/N before gesturing for her to come in.  Y/N thanked her and stepped inside.  The house was always littered with things that she couldn’t even name, jars filled with strange herbs, dead animals, bones, flowers and other plants hanging upside down from the ceiling, and symbols that had been carved into different doorways and along the walls.  Wanda led her over to the sitting room that was next to the kitchen, where Agatha and Pietro were mixing things together.
“Ah, Y/N,” Agatha called out.  “I was wondering when you would come.”
Y/N frowned at her.  “So you know why I’m here then?”
Pietro watched her speak then smirked.  “You brought peace.  He’s been living with you for weeks.”
Y/N’s eyebrows raised at his words.  “What do you mean?”
Wanda started signing and Pietro watched her intently.  “You tamed the beast and brought us peace that was foretold.  If he stays, you’ll be happy til you’re old.”
Y/N rolled her eyes.  “Forgive my rudeness, but I’d love a clear answer.  If he reveals himself, will the people be kind?  Will they accept him?”
Pietro smiled.  “Change is hard, both for them and for him.  With love and kindness, acceptance will win.”
Y/N’s mouth tightened.  “Is that a roundabout way of saying yes?”  Agatha, Wanda and Pietro all nodded.  She nodded and hung her head.  “Then I’d like to call a village meeting.  Tonight.”
***
After going over the plan with Bucky, Y/N walked out of the bakery with him later that night.  The villagers filed into the village meeting room that had been built for everyone to be able to attend and know what was going on in the community.  Everyone took their seats and looked around curiously at each other, a thrum of whispers and mumblings echoing in the small space.  Master Stark stood at the head of the crowd with the Seers nearby.
“Thank you all for coming,” he said.  “Our sacrifice giver, Y/N, and the Seers called this meeting tonight.”  He gestured to them and sat down.
Y/N stood with Bucky at the front.  “You’ve all met Bucky,” she said.  Everyone nodded with smiles.  “He came about a month ago to visit me.  But he is not who I said he is,” she said, trying to keep her tone even, breathing deeply as her nerves fluttered.  “He is my dear friend.  And he is also…well…” she looked at him and Bucky nodded.  “He’d like to show you.”
Another chorus of whispers occurred as Bucky stepped forward.  He sighed heavily before bending over, then grunted as his body started to spasm.  The people all looked concerned, some starting to stand up until he wrenched back and screamed.  Y/N watched on in worry, but stayed back.  Bucky’s legs fuzed together, the scales popping up over his brow and down the long sprouting tail.  The second torso started to rip through his stomach, the second set of arms flailing through the skin.  It was horrific, and obviously painful as he tried not to yell and scream but couldn’t help himself, his face twisted in agony.  The villagers all let out sounds of shock and horror, many of them trying to make a run for the door but the Seers had already blocked it.  After what seemed like hours Bucky finally stilled, panting heavily, still doubled over on his four hands.  Y/N slowly approached him and touched his shoulder.  He looked up at her and she smiled at him as she wiped the tears and sweat from his face.  The villagers all sat watching in silence at their interaction.
Y/N looked back up at the people as she helped Bucky right himself.  “Bucky is a Gorgon.  The monster in the mountain.  But he is also kind, sweet, smart, loving, and honorable.  He saved me from the men who attacked me.  He cared for me when I was injured from that attack,” she said.  “We do not need to make sacrifices, but give kindness and acceptance.  He wants to stay here with me, with all of us, and live a human life.”
“And how do we know he won’t turn into this and hurt or kill us if someone wrongs him?” someone called out.
“Because the shapeshifting will only last for so long,” Y/N explained, holding Bucky’s arm next to her.  “At some point it will become difficult, if not impossible, and he will stay human.”
The villagers watched them both for a long few minutes.  Bucky looked at all of them warily, his eyes flicking from person to person.  They had all been incredibly nice to him over the past month, but now it all seemed unsettling and unknown.  A small girl, Cassie, who had taken a liking to Bucky as she came to the bakery for goodies, broke through the crowd.  Her mother, Maggie, tried to pull her back but she yanked her hand out of her grasp.  She walked up to the front and stepped in front of Bucky who loomed over her.  She looked at him curiously before reaching a hand out and touching part of his scaly body.  Bucky exhaled as she lifted her hands and made a grabbing gesture with her fingers for him to pick her up.  He glanced at Maggie who was watching in fear but then reached down and lifted her up, holding her gently against his chest.  Cassie put her hands on his face, touching the scales above his brow and into his hair, then his ears, his nose, his chin, then pulling at his lip to see his sharp teeth.  He playfully bit at her fingers and she giggled, making him smile.
Maggie then slowly walked forward until she stood next to Y/N, watching Bucky with Cassie.  She slowly smiled and reached out for Cassie, Bucky handing her over carefully.  Maggie then held a hand out to Bucky, and he gladly took it.  She squeezed his fingers then dropped his hand and turned to the other people watching on in awe.  “I trust him,” she said.
“I trust him!” Cassie yelled, making Bucky smile wider.
Slowly, one by one, the rest of the villagers all walked closer to see Bucky and talk to him more in his true form.  The Seers were last as they were led forward by Pietro.  They each held a hand out and placed their hands on Bucky like they did Y/N all those months ago, with Agatha on top of his head and Wanda and Pietro on either side of his face.  All three of them had bright smiles as they felt him.  “With love and kindness, acceptance will win,” Agatha repeated the words from earlier.
Bucky smiled back at them.  After all was said and done, everyone went back to their houses to retire for the evening.  The excitement of the night exhausted them all.  Bucky and Y/N headed back to her bakery.  Once they got inside Bucky hugged her tight.  “Thank you,” he said quietly into her hair.
“No need to thank me, my love,” Y/N said, kissing his chest.  “I’m sorry you had to shift again.  It looks like hell to go through.”
Bucky sighed as he released her and headed toward the back room.  “And I’m about to do it again,” he said.  Y/N followed him quickly as he settled his larger body in the middle of the room.  “As efficient as this is,” he gestured to his body, “I’ve grown fond of the legs.  And the cock,” he winked at her.
Y/N laughed as she sat next to him on the floor.  “As have I,” she winked back at him.  She held his hand and they sat in silence for a moment.  “Can I do anything to help you through it?” she asked, rubbing his knuckles with her thumb.
Bucky shook his head.  “Just…stay with me?”
Y/N nodded, turning her body and kissing him.  “Always.”
Bucky smiled at her and gestured for her to sit on the bed.  Y/N moved out of his way, and once she was settled he breathed heavily before grunting and bending over like he did before.  Y/N decided this shift was much worse as his body shook and the second set of arms and torso cracked and contracted back into his upper torso, the tail shrinking then splitting into legs, the ripping noise of skin and scale resounding in her head.  Bucky tried not to scream again, grunting and whimpering as he flinched and gritted his teeth through it.  Finally it stopped, leaving him a sweaty, shaking, naked mess on the floor.  Y/N immediately went to him, pulling him off the floor and to the bed where she held him against her chest, pushing his hair off his face as she wiped away the sweat.  “I’ve got you, husband.  It’s okay.”
Bucky shivered in her arms as he tried to relax.  They stayed like that until he finally stopped shaking and looked up at her.  “Thank you, wife,” he breathed, his voice slightly wobbling.
Y/N kissed his forehead.  He wrapped his arms around her waist as he rested his head on her breasts, snuggling his face close.  She giggled at his antics, still running her fingers through his hair.  His breathing became heavier and heavier until he began snoring.  Y/N covered them both with a blanket on her bed, letting him sleep off the strain of the day.  She silently thanked whatever powers or Gods that be that the people had been so understanding and accepting of him.  She was sure there was still going to be an adjustment period for everyone, but that this would be the beginning of a beautiful life she had been promised by the Seers.

Chapter 33 - Slot B: A very very long slow burn finally pays off…
Mitsunari x OC; Nobunaga x Mai
Previous Chapter
Logline -  In order to protect a political alliance, Katusko and Mitsunari must pretend an engagement. But this “all business” arrangement is threatened by a coup against Nobunaga… and by feelings.
M rated Chapter, Minors DNI
From the Military Notes of Ishida Mitsunari…
Theory, tactics, strategies… Lord Shingen is correct. They are nothing without personal conviction. This is indeed a battle, not with an enemy, but with myself. For if I am not able to say something now, I may never have another chance.
Perhaps Okatsu will still leave, but I cannot let her go without telling her how I feel. Or…
… showing her.
Tumblr media
“Katsuko, hurry!” Toshiie screamed as if he needed to be heard over the storm… even though he was right next to me.
Willing myself to move, I stepped toward the wormhole.
And then…
I felt a tug on my hand, as Mitsunari spun me back to him. He placed his palm on my cheek, and just looked at me as if I was the most important person in the universe. He opened his mouth, but no words came out.  But it was clear he wanted to say something, and so I put my hand on his heart, hoping to calm him. Hoping to calm myself. Then he visibly took a deep breath, his chest rising and falling under my hand.  Instead of speaking, he pulled me close, and kissed me with an intensity I wouldn’t have thought him capable of.
Just as his smile could always quiet the negative voices in my head, his kiss brought the world into focus. The world that was Mitsunari. His lips, his hands, his body. I wrapped my arms around him, feeling like I could climb inside his skin, as he clung to me just as desperately.
The world that was Mitsunari.
The world where there was an “us.”
When the kiss ended, he continued to hold me, breathing me. “I love you, Katsuko. Please, someday, find your way back here. To me. When I’m with you – I feel like I’m more than what I thought I was … and that’s you. I want to be more for you.”
“You never needed to be more. You’ve always been more than what you thought.” I understood what he meant though, because when I was with him, I felt like I was more too. And I loved him. Of course, I loved him. I’d been wrong to pretend otherwise. “I love you too.”
In the movies when the girl or the boy realizes they’re in love, there’s always a running montage – often through a big city – as they desperately try to return to the side of the love of their life. I didn’t need a running montage - I was already at Mitsunari’s side. I would be crazy to leave it with no guarantee of return.
“Katsuko!” Toshiie’s voice was getting increasingly desperate.
I looked over my shoulder, to where the others were waiting for me. “I’m sorry. I can’t go back. I was never happy there. This is my place.” In this time. In these arms.
Whatever protest he was about to make, stopped before the words left his mouth. I could see that Toshiie remembered what it had been like, in that last year, the year I chased death. In any case, with the wormhole rapidly approaching, we didn’t have time to argue. “Of course, you would choose the most inaccessible place for me to visit, Doofus.” He hugged me. “I’ll have to keep track of the wormholes, I guess – or you could bring your warlord to visit me. Sometimes.”
Sasuke lightly punched my shoulder. “I understand, Okatsu. This is my place now too, and eventually I will come back to stay.” Then he whispered in my ear, “See if you can get Ieyasu’s autograph for me.”
Lord Shingen bowed to Mitsunari and I. “Angel, if I couldn’t tempt you, then at least I can console myself that it’s due to true love. Good luck to you both.”
“Be well, sir.” I did hope that he would soon be as healthy as the other timeline’s Shingen.
“Thank you, Lord Shingen. For everything.” Mitsunari performed a low and respectful bow.
“You’re welcome, but do not think I will go easy on you if we ever face each other in battle.” Then he winked, before he turned and followed Sasuke and my brother into the wormhole.
All three vanished in the fog.
Mitsunari held me as we watched them disappear, and I would be lying if I didn’t admit that it hurt to see my brother fade away in front of my eyes, especially so soon after finding him again. But this was my choice and at least this time I knew he was alive and well.
The fog lifted as fast as it arrived, but the rain continued, an unrelenting downpour with an Autumn chill to it. I turned to Mitsunari to ask where he wanted to go next and found myself tucked into his embrace again.
He looked down at me as he held me firmly against him, our soaking clothes providing less of a barrier than usual. “Okatsu, all I can think of at this moment is how much I want to kiss you again. May I?”
“You didn’t ask me last time.” Not that I had minded. Being grabbed and kissed into breathlessness hadn’t been on my bucket list, but clearly that had been an oversight on my part.
“There was not time. Lord Shingen said-”
“Lord Shingen gave you advice on love?” I had to laugh and wished that I had been able to overhear that discussion. “I figured the two of you were discussing battle tactics.”
“In a sense, we were.” He brushed a finger across my lips. “You did not say if I can kiss you.”
“Oh. Well. Yes. Of course, you c-”
That was all I got out before his mouth claimed mine, smoothly brushing my lips with his, once, twice, and then when mine naturally parted, his tongue tentatively edged my lower lip. There was a brief hesitation, until I encouraged him, tapping his tongue with mine, then he moaned, and threw away all uncertainly. Maybe there was more passion than skill, but I wasn’t going to complain (I could barely think). Whatever had been holding him back before had shattered, and his unchecked desire was a whirlwind all its own. He swept me along, and I could no longer determine which was him and which was me.
And then…
CLINK.
Ow.
Mitsunari jumped back instantly. “I’m sorry. Are you hurt? What did I do wrong?”
“Not you.” I glared over my shoulder at Moonlight, who had expressed her displeasure at getting wet by nipping at my shoulder and propelling me right into Mitsunari’s teeth. “Her. She hates water.”
Forgiving creature that he is, Mitsunari gently patted her nose. “She may be correct that it is time for us to be on our way.” He wiped his face with his wet sleeve.
“I suppose you’re right.”
We dove into each other for another kiss.
I imagined that Moonlight, if her thoughts could be translated into a human tongue, would seriously be voicing her displeasure… in every obscenity she knew (and living in a stable, she probably knew quite a few choice words).
Eventually, though, the downpour proved to be too much to ignore, and we made our way, travelling the vast distance of … oh it was at least two kilometers … to a small village near the shrine, and stopped at an Inn. The building itself was small, but it looked well-kept and clean, and I thought I spotted a path to an Onsen …
Huh… I was pretty sure that in the future there would be a nice resort hotel built right around this spot. Toshiie and I had once had dinner there, after one of the few times I had dragged him out snowboarding. If I remembered correctly, the rooms had a beautiful view of the mountains. If this time’s version of the hotel was similarly situated, it would be the perfect place to wait out the storm.
Well. It was storming.
We would be waiting.
If we were to find interesting ways to pass that time, well, who could blame us?
Besides, after the events of the past couple days, we were clearly too tired to travel through a storm. It would be better to take a day and a night to rest before setting off on the journey to Azuchi.
After handing over the reins of our horses to a boy who was barely six years old, we entered the Inn as the Innkeeper rushed out of a back hallway to greet us. Hopefully, he would give us a room at this early hour of the day.
The Innkeeper squinted at me. “Kaya?”
Holy cats. Is that…?
“Okitane?” Aki’s old apprentice had gained a bit of weight over the past seven years, but otherwise he hadn’t changed. “I thought you and Niwa went to work in Heimji.”
Behind me, I felt Mitsunari sigh in impatience. I guess he really wanted to get into a room, and … nap.
“No. We were going to but, the earrings you gave us turned out to be worth enough money to purchase this Inn. It seemed silly to travel all the way across the country when the perfect place was right here.” He indicated a corridor off behind him. “She’s in the kitchen – do you want to visit with her?”
There was another sigh behind me. I knew Mitsunari wouldn’t stop me from visiting an old friend, but I saw no need to torture him. Oh…who was I kidding. I wanted to get my hands on him as soon as possible.
“I would love to catch up with her, but my husband and I got caught in the rain. We’d really like to get dry and warm.” Mitsunari startled at the field promotion to ‘husband’, but it was easier than having to explain the whole story. “Later today, when she’s got a free moment?”
Or tomorrow. Tomorrow would be good too.
“You two do look soaked.” Okitane indicated a walkway to the back. “All of the rooms are empty – the one furthest from here has the best view.” He lowered his voice to a confidential whisper. “And you will enjoy the most privacy.”
Huh. Guess he was not fooled.
“Thank you, Okitane.” I managed a quick bow before Mitsunari took my hand and led me away.
I couldn’t help but laugh as he pulled me across the courtyard. Simply looking at him and holding his hand was enough to send joy bubbling through me.
Smack
“Oh. I am truly sorry.” Mitsunari apologized to the pillar he had just bounced off.
“Oooh. Are you ok?” Now would be a Murphy’s Law time for him to get a concussion. I could almost picture birdies circling his head.
“I am fine. Why did you ask?” He took my moment of concern as an opportunity to kiss me again. And now I was the one seeing a circle of birdies. Holding rose petals and-
We did make it inside the room before any clothing came off. We even managed to get the door shut.
“I’ve wanted to do this for such a long time.” Mitsunari kissed under my ear, and I felt the heat of his lips travel all the way to…
A long time? How long? An old worry stopped that heat before it could build further. Was this connected to that so called love potion?
He noticed my hesitation and stopped. “Okatsu, did I do something wrong?”
“It’s nothing you did, really. But what if this is because of the love potion? I mean, I’m sure it wasn’t really a love potion, but even so it could have put the idea in your mind. They call it the placebo-” I halted when he lightly put his finger to his lips. “Effect.”
Gently, he untangled my still damp hair. “Since the day before the day Shohime gave us that tea.”
Oh. Well. That’s ok then. Carry on.
Please.
“How would you like me to touch you?” He trailed his fingers over my face. “Like this? Or… is this better?” His other hand stroked my side, eventually coming to rest at my hip. Under his touch, warmth bloomed and radiated through my whole body.
“You know what? It’s all good.” I wanted his hands everywhere. If I could have walked him through a nuclear reactor in order for him to grow a couple more hands, I would have done it. “Just touch me.”
He worked to untangle my obi tie (unfortunately making it more tangled). “While that is exciting to know, how will I be able to learn if you don’t tell me?”
“You’ve always been an adaptive learner… I have every confidence that not only will you figure it out, but our study of each other might become my favorite class ever.” Granted, ‘favorite class ever’ was an extremely low bar.
“I will work very hard to make certain of it.” He gave my obi tie another yank, but I had lost patience with waiting.
Sorry Mai.
I grabbed my dagger and sliced it open. The obi fell to the floor with a wet plop and once loosened, my kimono slipped off one shoulder.
Reverently, Mitsunari cupped his hand over my shoulder, fingers tentatively travelling along my arm. He followed that with tiny kisses everywhere he’d just touched. It was such a light stroke, almost as if he was drawing feathers across my skin, but so effective that I realized I was trembling. “You are cold?”
Half a question, half a statement. “No, I’m not.” I thought about that. “Ok, yes, actually I am cold too, but that wasn’t why I shivered.”
“Why then?” He continued brushing his fingers along my arm.
“Because it felt good.” So good that I wondered how I would possibly survive him touching me in other places. I might be the first recorded case of spontaneous human combustion.
He smiled then, and it was like having the sun come out to dry and warm me. “I’m glad.” He reached for me again, helping me to peel the rest of my wet clothing off. “This… is a complicated equation.”
Have you ever experienced a day where half of it is a complete blur and the other half stands out in sharp reality?
I know that Mitsunari and I managed to get our wet clothes off. I know that we stirred up the coals in the firepit to help ward off the Autumn chill. But I don’t remember how any of these things happened. What I remember was the look on his face when I finally got my wet clothes off. I remember that Mitsunari’s sandals somehow fell into the fire and we didn’t notice until they had completely burned up because we were too busy kissing.
Somehow we managed to get from the firepit to the futon – I think that Mitsunari had simply boosted me into his arms and carried me, while my arms were locked around his neck and my legs were around his waist – but that trek across the room is now a blurred memory of sensations – the feeling of his tight abs between my thighs and his erection pressing against my butt, the slide of his chest across my nipples.
I do remember how we got into bed because Mitsunari tripped on it, sending us both tumbling onto the futon mattress.
“I am sorry! Did I hurt you?” He immediately rolled off me and I felt the loss of contact through to my bones.
“No, I’m fine. Get back here.” Er. Hadn’t meant to be so dominant. “Um. Please.”
“I want to do this slowly. I want to have every moment of this captured in my memory.” He took my hand and kissed each fingertip. “Lord Shingen said I must worship you. That is what I intend to do.”
He turned my hand over and kissed my palm, finishing the kiss with a swish of his tongue that left me shaking with need.
“While I imagine that Lord Shingen is very skilled,” (the other Katsuko didn’t act like she had any complaints), “you don’t need to do what he would do. Or what he told you to do.” And then, because I could already feel him pulling back, I hurried on. “I want what Mitsunari wants.”
“Everything. I want everything.” He drew me into his arms and buried his face in my neck. “I want you so much that you cloud my thoughts.”
I tugged him closer, so close that the only thing between us was a slight sheen of sweat. “I want everything too.”
“Where do you like to be touched?” He pressed his lips to my throat. “Here. I know here.” He kissed me harder, nipping and sucking, and I moaned and arched off the mattress. “That is good too?” It was part question, part awed realization.
“Stop thinking.” I plastered myself against him and kissed him hard. He couldn’t stop and second guess himself if I kept his mouth occupied.
“Yes. I will stop thinking,” he managed to say before he gave himself over to the embrace.
We lay on our sides, face to face, body to body – naked kiss, gliding across each other as what I guess had been an anxiety pause was restored to the need that had propelled us into this room, into each other.
Touch, that was all that I wanted. He could ask where or how but my answer would be the same. Yes, there. That’s good. Now. More. I hooked my leg over his hip and inched myself closer still.
Just the sensation of him slick and trembling against me – or was that me, was I the one shaking? – was enough. The being. The sharing. He was right – we were right, together we were more than I thought I could ever be.
And so, though I may not have been physically close when he thrust into me, I was emotionally ready to feel his fullness inside, to feel that complete. Part of me wanted to hold onto that moment, to freeze it in time forever.
His mouth captured mine in a long kiss as he continued to move within me. I slipped my hand between my legs, touching myself to catch up, and then my genius lover followed the trail, his hand covering mine, learning by example, where and how I liked to be touched.
I arched against him, as he continued to pump into me, holding him as he climaxed with a groan… then relaxed. His sweat-tinged hair tickled the top of my arm, and I reflexively began combing it back into place. Somewhere from deep inside my consciousness whispered mine.
“You did not… also?” It was a few moments later when he regained speech. “Lord Shingen said-”
I silenced him with a kiss. We did not need to add Lord Shingen’s thoughts and opinions to this moment. “That was how I wanted it… I … many women… are not as quick to warm up as men. But I wanted that closeness. I wanted to…” I couldn’t find the exact way to explain that I’d wanted to give myself over to him. “That… it was for you.”
“Thank you, Lady—Thank you Katsuko.” He returned his hand to between my thighs. “If I am understanding correctly…”
That light touch was just a whisper against me, but even the hint of friction stirred the coals inside me. I’d been close before, it didn’t take much for that throbbing feeling to return and my need to build. “Yes?”
“A man is like an arrow – all that is needed is to focus… draw… aim, and let go?” He added a little flick for emphasis, and my quick gasp probably told him he’d found his target.
Military terms? Now? “Uh. Sure.” He had gathered more confidence, as this brilliant, adaptive learner pressed harder now, his explorations having told him that… oh yes… tiny circles was…. Yup…. that’s good.
“Whereas women are like flint lock muskets. They need a spark and a long… slow… burn.” He brought his other hand into the equation, inserting two fingers inside me. He’d mapped that path before, and now, he easily found again a place that made me take in a quick sharp gasping breath.
I closed my eyes and rode that sensation, wanting to enjoy it, hold it to me, as long as possible.
Mitsunari might not be able to walk and read at the same time, but his hand-eye coordination was… just fine. “Until finally,” he continued, his voice lowered to a whisper, “one is able to pull…”
I was wide open to him, hanging off the edge of rational thought.
“…the trigger.” He raked his fingers across me, then as I began to spiral, he continued pressing his thumb down while I exploded against him.
Thank goodness Okitane put us in the furthest room.
While I was still trying to remember how to breath, Mitsunari pulled me on top as he rolled to his back to cuddle me against his chest (mostly… I did have to casually free my arm, which was caught under him at a weird angle).
“It was your hair.” His whispered non-sequitur pulled me out of a post-coital daze. I felt a slight tug and saw that Mitsunari had grabbed a lock of my hair and was coiling it around his fingers. “That first night… you couldn’t sleep. That you let me… trusted me to touch you. I wanted more.”
Aw. That’s sweet. I booped his nose – no particular reason why, I just felt like booping his nose… and anyway, he was still talking. “No. It was before that, but I didn’t realize. Or understand what it meant. When you were injured.” He placed his palm on my face. “We fit. I didn’t examine my thought then. But even back then… I knew we fit.”
“I felt something then too.” I hadn’t examined it either, letting it skitter across my nerves into my subconscious. “Yeah. We fit.”
His hand drifted down my cheek, as he gently lifted my face to his. A tiny kiss, briefest brush across my mouth. “I can’t imagine ever tiring of kissing you.”
All thoughts of napping fled the room. Soft kisses built into longer kisses, that merged into one long open mouth exploration of tongues, lips, until we finally only broke away to breathe. The room spun around us. He’d literally kissed me until I was breathlessly hyperventilating.
Then his hands were everywhere, re-awakening nerve endings that didn’t want to rest after all – not when his mouth was on my breast and his tongue fluttered against me. The whole world shrunk to that point, that sensation of his mouth sucking my breasts. He gave each one careful, even attention, as if he was studying them with his lips and tongue, and even with tiny nips of his teeth.
He shifted me until I straddled his hips, and again I felt his hardness pressing against my butt. With a smile that was half-curious, half-wicked (where had he learned how to be wicked? Did I do that? Go me!), he said, “This… the book made it seem like this was something that you would enjoy. Yes?”
“You… stole Mozumi’s pillow book?” My gasp was equally the shock of his thievery as it was the sensation of being lifted directly onto his shaft.
“No.” He thrust upward. “I read it. Every. Single. Page.”
Oh, bless his eidetic memory!

Could you write a protective vampire Baekhyun and innocent human reader
I tried! I have a longer fic in the making with this prompt but I just can't make any progress on it so hopefully I'll post it some day in the future~
Vampire!Baekhyun (EXO) | Protective angst | 0.7k
Tumblr media
“I told you to stay away!” your lover hisses at you just as you shut the door closed, leaning your back against it. Your head hangs low, watching his feet as he paces in a small circle without advancing further into your home. You catch the movement of his hands too, and you know he runs them through his hair like he always does when he’s frustrated.
“What were you thinking?” he asks and you watch him turn to face you. His voice is tired, but you almost think you caught something akin to fear in the strain of it.
“They were your friends,” you mumble, “You said your friends wouldn’t hurt me so I just thought I’d say hello.”
Baekhyun sighs in response, his hands now on his hips. You wish you saw his face as well, saw whether there’s any sign of forgiveness in his eyes, but you don’t dare to. This is one thing that he absolutely insisted on - that you don’t interact with anyone of his kind.
“They wouldn’t, you’re right,” he admits, reluctantly, “But that doesn’t mean you should just walk up to us when we’re talking. I told you I’ll only be a second.”
“Yeah, I know,” you acknowledge - then again, it wasn’t like you were eavesdropping or anything. You just wanted to at least introduce yourself, finally, after months of your boyfriend promising to let you meet them. “I just thought that since you were with them, you wouldn’t mind.” He scoffs.
“Wouldn’t tell you to leave us alone if that was the case, would I?” He does have a point so you stay quiet. The silence, tense and uncomfortable, stretches until finally he sighs again. He steps closer and, to his credit since he apparently cares so much about you being wary of him, you’d take a step back if you weren’t leaning against the door. His icy hands are gentle as they cup your face and tilt your head up.
He still looks angry, but less so than he did in the car. Despite the lingering anger, his gaze is soft. Almost like your roles have been switched and he was the prey that approached the predators, only you're not nearly as shaken by the situation. You lean into his touch, trying to soothe the worry so clearly expressed through his body language.
“I just don't want you to get hurt,” he whispers, coming closer until there's barely any space. The cold touch of his skin is grounding. “You can't know if they've fed recently or not. I don't want you anywhere near hungry vampires, not even if it's me or my friends.”
“I know,” you mumble, finally understanding where his fear comes from, “I didn’t think about that, sorry.”
Finally he cracks the smallest of smiles and kisses your forehead. He pulls you closer, simply holding you for a while. Slowly, you melt into him.
It’s still new. The hidden layer of reality that was revealed to you is still hard to be mindful of - much harder since Baekhyun’s kind looks just like humans. More so yet because he makes sure your life isn’t all that different.
“I’m sorry I got so angry,” he whispers, squeezing you in his hold, “I know you’re just not used to it.” You nod, wordlessly enjoying as the atmosphere shifts towards a more comfortable kind. Suddenly, he chuckles.
“It’s cute,” he coos and you can hear the smirk in his voice, “I get to be your guide and protect you from everything.”
“I can handle it myself,” you murmur. Instantly he presses you further against the door. He tips your head back.
“Absolutely not,” he shakes his head and kisses you softly, “How could I live with myself if anything happened to you? Just bear with it - with me, please.”
You want to protest, but the words die before they can roll off your tongue. He looks almost pleading. You’ve always admired how gentle he is with you, even more so after he shared the truth with you and explained the differences between his kind and humans. You remember how panicked he was when he once caught your arm a little too tightly to save you from falling and it left a bruise. So you just nod and kiss him back in a promise.
If it will help to keep him calm, you can do this. Maybe you can indulge some secret fantasy of being protected by your immortal lover. Especially if he’s so into it.

Idk really really disjointed thoughts but I was thinking about this on the bus in-between the stale cigarette smell and the man ranting about port-a-potties.
so what if Sasori and Deidara go on a mission and of course Sasori is all careful planning and strategizing but Deidara is Deidara, everything is boom bang flash.
and normally things somehow work out for them but not this time. this time, deidara gets horribly injured. bleeding out and nearer to death than he’s ever been.
it’s only by a miracle that Sasori gets them safely out of there and back to the hideout. and he takes him to Kakuzu to be treated because Sasori can’t treat him, he literally can’t. he can’t look at Dei, he can’t be in the same room as him.
and the others assume that it’s because Sasori is furious at Dei, not only for ruining the mission and endangering them, but in the process of saving Deidara, Sasori has to sacrifice some of his more important puppets.
but that’s not it at all.
Sasori could care less about those damn puppets.
but Deidara …
he had never seen Deidara that badly hurt before. and he can’t shake the feeling that it was his fault, because if he had stopped Deidara, if he had yelled or attempted to curb his recklessness even once, none of this would have happened.
eventually, very late at night, Kakuzu comes to him. and he says that Deidara is alive, he’s conscious again, and he’s asking for Sasori. at first Sasori brushes it off and says he’ll see him in the morning but Kakuzu says the kid won’t relax until he sees you.
so Sasori goes, and Kakuzu gives them privacy.
and Deidara is near tears. he’s speaking softly, he’s apologizing for what happened. he says he talked it over with Kakuzu to give half of his pay to Sasori for the next few months, until he can replace the puppets that Sasori lost. and he’s rambling on and on until finally Sasori holds up his hand, temporarily halting Deidara’s words.
and he stands there staring at Deidara in bed, more bandages than flesh, bruises everywhere.
“If you ever presume to make me worry like this again, you’ll no longer have to fear the enemy taking you out; I’ll end your life myself. Am I understood?”
and Deidara looks at him, thinking that surely he heard wrong. “worry”? Sasori didn’t worry about anything; Deidara doubted that word was even in his vocabulary. and even if it was, and he HAD said that —
“Why would you be worried about me? I mean, if I died —“
“I don’t want you to die!!”, Sasori snaps at him, his normally expressionless face a sea of emotions. “I - I —“, and here he pauses, because he can’t see the next words coming from his lips, but he forces himself: “I LOVE YOU, Deidara!”
and Deidara isn’t sure whether it’s the events of the day finally breaking him down, or his exhaustion, or some side effect of the heavy painkillers Kakuzu has him on, but … he starts to cry.
freely, uninhibited, without even bothering to lift his hands to his eyes, he starts bawling.
and Sasori is alarmed, to put it mildly. is Deidara in a great amount of pain? did … did Sasori’s words upset him that much? was —
“I … I love you too, you stupid idiot!” Deidara manages to get out through his tears, and Sasori is floored. no, for real, he has to sit down on the floor to process the confusing emotions going through his body.
Deidara can barely move but he manages to lean up and look over the side of the bed at the redheaded puppet muttering to himself on the floor.
“Hey! That was my first confession, hm! I know you’re an old man but I’m young, and this is a big deal for me! So get up and hug me or something!”
Sasori smiles and shakes his head; how in the world is he going to handle this annoying brat now?
well, no matter.
it’s a challenge, and there’s nothing that stimulates Sasori more than a good challenge.
he gets up, approaches Deidara, leans down and hugs him. awkwardly (he hasn’t hugged anybody in over twenty years) but gently. Deidara’s hair presses against Sasori’s cheek and nothing in the universe could possibly feel softer.
“Do I get a kiss, too?”
he says it playfully, a teasing lilt in his voice, clearly not at all expecting Sasori to act, but
Sasori cups Deidara’s chin with his thumb and forefinger, moves his lips to the target and gives the blonde what he asked for.
“How was that? Good?”
Deidara nods, and his face is doing its best impression of Sasori’s hair shade.
“Ah, so THAT was all it took to shut you up? I wish I had known this sooner; I could have spared myself many a metaphorical headache.”
or something like that.
Next thought:
so Sasori is dating Deidara and he thinks it’s going good but he starts to worry about their lack of a sex life. he knows that Hidan and Kakuzu are “dating” and he definitely knows they have sex because Kakuzu’s room is next to Sasori’s and Hidan makes no effort to be quiet. and although they’re infinitely more discreet he knows that Itachi and Kisame are experiencing that, too.
but Sasori’s puppet body isn’t exactly equipped with the tool(s) for love-making. and he’s worried. Deidara has never brought it up to him but he knows he’s “friends” with Itachi and Hidan and the three talk all the time and he thinks what if he hears the others talk about it and feels cheated because we’re not having it? after all Deidara is a young, vibrant, healthy 19 year old male and he probably wants it, right?
so Sasori works day and night creating a “human No jutsu” for himself, one that he’ll be able to maintain for a few hours at a time, hopefully long enough to give Deidara a good time.
so he calls Deidara into his room and transforms for him. but. unexpected side effect of being fully human again: emotions. everything that he’s repressed/gotten rid of over the years immediately comes to the forefront of Sasori’s mind and.
he starts crying.
and Deidara is more shocked than anything. it’s surreal enough to see Sasori as flesh and blood, but to see him cry? insanity.
so Deidara sits down with him and holds him, comforting him and soothing him. and eventually Sasori calms down enough to tell Deidara why he chose to inhabit this form.
and Deidara is flattered beyond belief.
but.
Deidara has no interest in sex.
he never did.
he explains that he likes when he and Sasori hug and kiss, and hold each other, but sex is not something he’s ever even considered. he says Sasori stimulates him mentally and emotionally, and for him, that’s more than enough.
and Sasori cries more.
the big crybaby spends the whole two hours of his human No jutsu just sitting on the floor bawling his eyes out.
but it’s happy tears.
or something like that.
I don’t know, I guess this is what’s living in my head today 🤷🏽‍♀️

Lea shivered in the biting cold of Toronto’s wind as she approached Tyler’s door. She knocked three times before crossing her arms and turning around to admire the view. Sounds of winter and purity of the snow-covered ground warmed her. The night sky's peace washed over her with its obsidian glow. Hearing the click of the door, Lea turned and smiled as her eyes met with his. The world is bright... all right. “Hi.” She hummed, mesmerized by him. This time, she felt no fear. As fragile as she knew her breakthrough was, - a foundation not fully cemented - she trusted that something beautiful would come out of this.
“I’m sorry to show up so late. I left the show and immediately caught a plane here.” She scoffed at her own spontaneity, a rare event for a woman who felt naked without her day planner on hand. “You know me.. I talk a lot.. and I have quite a bit to say. So, just hear me out. I’ll try to get through it before your house turns into a tundra.” She giggled, lifting her shoulders to tighten the bundle of clothing around her.
“You were right. About everything. I was protecting myself and saying that I was protecting you.” She shook her head. “You don’t need me to protect you. You can protect yourself just fine. I know that, and I knew it then. I also knew before you even walked out the door that night that I’d have to see you again. I don’t know how to survive without seeing you.” What's the difference if I say I'll go away when I know I'll come back on my knees some day? “I’m so sorry I did that.” She spoke with a humility that only assuredness and confidence could provide. “You deserved the most loving and passionate response to sharing your feelings...”
“But, I’ve been thinking.” Lea's smile grew a bit. “My favorite song in the entire world is My Man by Barbra Streisand.” She laughed. “I know it’s corny since I’m playing her role now. But, it’s been my favorite since I was a little girl, and I realized that it’s so us. Well, at least, it’s very much how I feel about you. It’s the way I’ve felt about you since we met. I just didn’t know it yet.” Lea paused, allowing her words to sit in the air. “I knew it when I visited you at RomaDrama. I stayed after a little longer than you thought I did. I just kept watching you with everyone. You took time with every single person that came, you held their hand, you held them, you let them share their stories and cry and feel... It was the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen. Then, I found out that you’d stayed after for two hours every night so that no one was left out.” She shook her head in awe. “And I just keep thinking that if the most humble, amazing, generous, kind hearted, compassionate, and loving man I’ve ever known wants me, I must’ve done something right.”
“You told me what you wanted, and I didn’t think I was able to give it to you. But, when I’m honest with myself, I know that no mental or physical health concern could ever keep me from loving you harder than I’ve ever loved anything or anyone. I’d sacrifice everything just to hold you in my arms for one minute.” She blushed, desperate to wrap herself around him and never let go. “And I need to tell you what I want.” She felt her heart racing as she took in a deep, cold breath. “I want you to come see my show a million times and then spend the rest of the night after every performance telling me why it’s so annoying. I want to spend every Monday and Thursday making love to you on every surface of my apartment.” She smirked, echoing his words. “And when my contract is up, I want to leave the show and move here. I want to live in Toronto. I want to see your family every weekend and hang out with the girls in their playroom. I want to laugh with you, cry with you, and fight with you. I want you for the rest of my life, and I will not let myself be scared of the unknown anymore. I’d rather have two seconds of passion with you than never have you at all. No relationship contracts, no agents or publicists telling us what to do... Just us. That’s it.” She sighed, her heart racing as she recognized her vulnerability. After a significant pause, Lea scoffed. “Okay.. You can talk now. It’s my turn to listen.” // @tylerhynesrp

Chapter 1: My Life Is Ruined
“I wonder what I’d look like with bangs,” I mumbled to my reflection in the bathroom mirror. “Should I?”
My green eyes darted to the scissors on the counter. I should. It’s my ‘avatar’, after all. I haven’t customized it in a while. Except for when I bleached my hair last week. But what would my mother think? She didn’t like how I looked the last time I changed my look. But then again, who cares? It’s not like she can do anything about it - I still have two years before she finishes her sentence. By then, I’ll be sixteen. By then, the bangs will have grown out.
Screw it.
I put on some good music, grabbed the scissors and began cutting. I’d just started when I heard the door opening. I bolted up, a deer caught in headlights, before I saw it was only Catlin. She stood in the doorway, holding a fake mouse by the tail.
I turned red, “Well, since you put a fake rat in the shower this morning, I thought I’d prank you back.”
A smile tugged at the sides of her mouth before she gave in, laughing. “Ah, sorry. It was so funny though! You screamed so loud-”
“Oh, shush!” I giggled as she sat on the edge of the bathtub.
“Anyways, what are you doing?”
“Totally not cutting my bangs.”
“You don’t have bangs - oh.” She approached me, warm hands taking the scissors away. “You’re cutting them crooked. Let me help?”
I nodded, climbing into the bathtub as per her instruction. As she spoke, I began to grow more and more tired. I fell asleep to the thought that maybe I shouldn’t have pranked Catlin before letting her have full control of my hair. Oh well.
“Good morning, sleepyhead!”
I groaned and opened my eyes to blinding light. All the windows were open, and light sliced through the bathroom. I was still in the bathtub and… smelled like Catlin. Wait. I looked down. Why am I wearing Catlin’s shirt?  My gaze rose to the mirror and I didn't recognise myself. A blue-haired girl with bangs met my eyes.
She stumbled into the bathroom, bleary. Her hands were stained blue, and she quickly hid them behind her back. “Do you like it?”
My gaze slid back to the girl in the mirror. “...Maybe.”
“Well then.” She rolled her shoulders back. “I’m glad. Anyways, it’s only semi-permanent. It should wash out in a week or two, so don’t fret too much, m’kay?”
I forced a smile, “Alright.”
“I made breakfast, does that help?”
“Ooh, okay!”
I practically floated over to our makeshift counter, grabbing a bowl of oatmeal. Catlin makes the best oatmeal ever.
“Oh, and class starts in an hour.”
“Hmmph?” I whipped my head around, mouth full of oatmeal.
Catlin yawned. “Yeah. I’m gonna go on a run - I need to wake up.”
I nodded, finishing my bite of oatmeal. “Bring the taser.”
She reached into the pocket of her hoodie, “Already got it.”
“M’kay. Well, be safe.”
“Will do!”
I finished getting ready, checking to see if any of the color was bleeding. It wasn’t. When Catlin got back, we headed to our first class of the day.  The day was uneventful until lunch.
Catlin asked me if I wanted to go to Starbucks to get a sandwich or something. Of course I said yes. Because Starbucks. We talked about pretty much everything under the sun on the way, as one tends to do when talking with one’s friends. And that’s where my story truly begins- okay, okay, the most exciting stuff happens later, but still.
“We’re here!” I looked up at the Starbucks sign, and then walked through the double doors, inhaling the scent of coffee and warm, buttery foods. The barista there was a blonde girl with icy-blue eyes. She was beautiful, but kind of menacing. Blondes were quite scary, in my experience.
She looked quite sketchy, but I didn’t think much of it, as there was no line and I was hungry. My only concern was getting food right now.
“Hello! May I get one sausage-cheddar-egg sandwich and one regular coffee, please? Two pumps of classic syrup,” My usual. Yes, I liked sweet things. I looked back at Catlin. “What do you want?”
“Uh, I think I’ll have the spinach feta wrap,” She responded, looking at the menu.
The barista nodded. “Anything else for you ladies?”
“No, thank you!”
“That’ll be 15.99.”
I nodded and put the money on the table, then went to sit down.
“Oh, look, it’s the orphan fags!” Behind me, I heard Lisette giggling.
I stiffened. Beside me, Catlin shook her head.
Let it go, she mouthed.
“I’m not even an actual orphan,” I grumbled. “And calling people slurs is-”
“I know.”
“Like, my dad’s probably alive. Doesn’t her best friend also have a deadbeat dad?”
“Yeah.” Catlin paused. “That’s kinda messed up.”
“And my mom is only in jail for two more years!”
“I know, I know. Just…” Her eyes darted around. “Oh, look! Our food’s here! Can you grab it?”
I sighed, nodding. As I turned, I saw Catlin start towards Lisette’s group. I grabbed our food and turned to see them leaving the Starbucks. Lisette flippedflipeds Catlin off as Catlin tooktakes her seat. Catlin turneds towards me and smileeds.
I love seeing her smile - she could light up all of LA with that smile.
Once we had eaten, we threw away our trash and walked out. The streets were busy, as always, but we decided that we should try and hurry back. We were running three minutes late. Luckily, there was an alleyway out the back of the Starbucks that served as a shortcut. We went down it, walking quickly and trying not to look scared or suspicious. That was when I heard the door creak open and someone step out into the alleyway behind us.
I risked a look back, and saw the barista walking -very quickly- towards us.
“Oh, it’s just you-” I barely managed to say before she tackled me.
“HALF-BLOOD SCUM! ” She yelled, her face warping. Her eyes turned green, mirroring mine, and her hair turned to flames. I watched in horror as she ripped off her name tag - Jolene. She became visibly paler, with moonish skin. Hair grew out of her left leg at an alarming rate, her foot bursting through her shoe. Except it was a hoof - not a foot.
“What the hell, lady?” I screamed, terrified.
I started kicking my legs and scratching at the face before me. It drew blood, but not only did the wounds close -which was beyond scary- but her makeup stayed impeccable. I would have to ask her which brand she used.
“Enola!” I heard my name yelled by Catlin.
“What?”
“Duck!” I saw her standing above the barista, and then drove a knife into the barista’s back.
Why does she have a knife?  I thought amongst the panic.
AAGHH!” Jolene let out a strangled cry of pain, then started disintegrating.
I sat straight up, frozen, staring at the barista as she turned to ash. I felt a warm hand on my shoulder. Catlin’s hand. I looked up and, seeing it was her and not some demonic barista, I practically leaped up and hugged her.
She rubbed my back, “Shhhh, shhh, it’s okay. But we do need to go. Now.”
I nodded, shivering. My cheek stung from where that thing had scraped it, “Okay. Okay, let’s go.”
We ran through the alleyway. It seemed Cat was limping, or trotting.
“Cat, are you okay? You’re…. trotting.”
She looked down, “Oh. Oh, don’t worry. I’m fine. Are you?”
“Yeah, but are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yes, I’m sure. But you’re sure you’re okay?”
I heaved a sigh and nodded.
We finally made it to our dorm, panting and sweaty. We ran the whole way. I hate running.
“Okay, we need to pack everything. We probably won’t ever be back here,”
I nodded.
“Why? I mean, I’m happy that we’re leaving, but why? And so suddenly, too.”
She looked at me, and nodded, “Okay, so that thing in the alleyway? That was an empousa. Her name was Jolene. She’ll come back, hopefully not soon, but I didn’t kill her. So I’m not a murderer.”
I shook my head. “I’m not worried about that. I couldn’t care less about her. I’m worried about why we need to leave. I’d help you hide the body, but there’s not one.”
“That’s my girl.” She smiled, but then stopped, going back to packing. “More of the monsters will come, and we need to cross the country. It’ll take maybe a day if we go by the gray sister’s taxi. You are a half-blood. Don’t get mad, that means half god, half mortal. The only safe place is a camp in New York. Also I’m half-goat. A satyr. So yeah.. Now go pack.”
I blinked, surprised, “That’s a lot to take in.”
“Yeah, I know. You can process it while we’re driving. Go pack.”
I nodded and we both raced around the dorm room, collecting CDs and clothes and all the necessities.. If we were never coming back, I wanted to make sure my manga and my other books stayed with me, along with my clothes and toiletries.
Oh, and all my money. I had about a thousand dollars. Yes, it’s a lot of money, but that’s what happens when your mother gets sent to prison and your rich relatives and all their friends decide to pity you. Pity comes in the form of money, I guess.
Once I had packed everything into my suitcase and backpack, Catlin nodded, “That’s a lot. I hope we don’t get attacked, otherwise you’ll have to let go of the suitcase.”
“Like you packed any less,” I snorted, “Plus, I can just break their kneecaps with it.”
She nodded, “Here, take this knife. Don’t worry, I have one more. Let’s move out.”
I snorted at the last part, this wasn’t really a spy mission, “Okay, let’s go.”
Once we were outside, Catlin closed her eyes and tossed a coin into the street while whispering, “Stêthi 'Ô hárma diabolês.”
I was intrigued, and just as I was going to ask what it meant, a taxi that appeared to be made out of smoke drove up, so quickly I could feel the wind from it.
An elderly woman with no eyes leaned out, her face covered in wrinkles. She had but one tooth. “This is out of our area…”
“I am aware. There will be more money upon our arrival.”
“Very well. Get in.”
The back door swung open, and Catlin nodded at me, then got in. I climbed in after, and the door swung closed after me. The seats were lumpy and cracked. So, you know, like a regular taxi. Out of instinct, I looked around for a seatbelt. Call me a goody-two-shoes. Instead of a seatbelt, however, there was a black chain, covered in dried gum. I decided I’d rather die than touch it.
Out of the corner of her mouth, Catlin whispered, “Hold on.”
I nodded, bracing myself against the seat in front of me, and tucking my suitcase between my legs. One of the women in the front of the car revved the engine and we took off like a shot. My head slammed against the headrest, hands clenched onto Catlin's arm, unable to move.
Catlin, however, seemed completely fine.
“How are you okay with this?” I hissed out of the side of my mouth.
“I don’t get out much, plus… if you close your eyes it feels like the IncrediCoaster at Disneyland!”
“How is that better?” I yelped as the taxi took a sharp turn to the left.
“It’s fun! Also if their eye falls out, give it back, please?”
“What. Falls out? Eye? Like, in total? They share one?” I screeched.
“Yeah.” Catlin opened the window. I took a deep breath, then promptly fell into Catlin’s lap as the taxi swerved through traffic and around buildings. This was insane. “You might want to try and sleep. You’ll need the energy.” She added once I untangled myself from her.
“Like that’ll happen, with all the swerving…”
“Whatever, you can try to stay awake. I’m just saying.”
Let me say this: that night’s sleep was the worst I have ever had. But, I did make a major breakthrough. The reason all of this happened to me was because I was in a coma, or at least a dream. I know, it’s cliche, that saying ‘it’s just a dream’ automatically makes it real, but I’ve never been in a coma before. Maybe it’s different than in the movies. Someone must’ve put a sedative in my coffee. Right after that is when everything went weird.

Text
pretty girl. (m)
Tumblr media
pairing: alpha!jaemin x reader
words: 4.3k+
summary: you hate that jaemin follows you around every full moon. you’re determined to know the reason why, but you end up getting more than you asked for.
genre: fluff, smut
warnings: large amounts of cum, manhandling, breeding, knotting, overstimulation, fingering, hair pulling, rough sex, oral sex
“It’s dangerous for you to be out here.”
You blink twice at Jaemin, who is hovering protectively over your form. As your best friend, Jaemin’s always been cautious of you because of his alpha instincts. This oddly includes finding him in your apartment on random days, cooking you dinner because you ‘can’t make it yourself,’ walking you around campus and glaring at anyone who glances your way, and finally, following you to places he should never be at anyways. Tonight falls under the last category, where you were itching to have a nice time with some of your group partners in your Economics class. You all collectively agreed that grabbing drinks at the nearby bar on campus was a good idea. Everything was going perfectly until Jaemin came storming into the bar, almost pushing one of your friends from his spot next to you.
You awkwardly clear your throat, laughing breathily as you stand, trying to move Jaemin away from the table. You can feel the heavy stares of your classmates on your back, and you try your best to ignore it. Once you’re out of earshot, you mumble lowly to him.
“Uh, Jaem, why are you here?”
He frowns at you. The expression on his face is clearly one of disappointment. “It’s a full moon. You shouldn’t be out here, especially if there are other alphas lurking around.”
You tend to frequently forget that Jaemin gets extremely clingy when the full moon rises, and he often perceives most of the population as a threat to your life. In fact, you’re both very good friends with Jeno, another fellow alpha on campus. Jeno’s shown time after time that he has absolutely no interest in you, but when the full moon appears, Jaemin’s convinced that Jeno wants to kidnap you and keep you locked in his dorm forever.
You sigh. “Jaemin, I’m fine. I’m just hanging out with my friends. There are no alphas around, I promise.”
His frown grows deeper. “I passed two of them on the way here. They could have easily hurt you.”
“How about you have a drink with us?” You offer, knowing his worries aren’t subsiding anytime soon. “You can relax and make sure I’m safe.”
The tension in his shoulders loosen at your suggestion, and he hesitantly agrees. You order a beer for him and he reluctantly follows you back to the table. Your friends are eyeing him warily.
“Everyone, this is Jaemin,” you introduce awkwardly. “Is it okay if he joins us?”
Jeongyeon is the first to speak, despite everyone’s reluctance. “Sure, the more the merrier!”
You toss her a grateful smile and Jaemin slides in next to you, unaware of the looks he’s receiving. Luckily, Seulgi launches into a discussion about her day before anyone else can comment. It isn’t long before Chanwoo leans over to whisper in your ear, causing Jaemin to stiffen beside you.
“Is your friend okay? He looks like he hates all of us.”
You brush off Chanwoo’s question. “He’s fine, just tense. Rough time in the semester, you know?”
Chanwoo nods but doesn’t seem convinced by your answer. No one else approaches you about Jaemin for the rest of the time, and the boy next to you chooses to remain silent. You bid goodbye to the group at the end of the night with Jaemin giving subtle nods to each of them. He still hovers protectively over you on the walk back to the campus dorms.
“You really didn’t have to come out tonight,” you mumble to your best friend as he walks alongside you. “I was fine on my own.”
“You’re not fine on nights like these,” he responds, and you can hear the frustration in his tone. “You don’t know what’s out there.”
You huff and stop in your tracks, turning around to face him. You cross your arms over your chest.
“No one is going to hurt me! No one has ever tried to hurt me on a full moon, it’s just your imagination! It’s annoying how much you follow me around, Jaemin, seriously.”
He’s visibly hurt by your outburst and you instantly feel regret. You can almost feel him shutting you away, and it pulls at your chest. He motions to your dorm, which is only a few feet away from where you’re standing.
“Good night. I hope you sleep well.”
“Jaemin-“
You watch as your best friend scurries down the sidewalk, not sparing a single glance back at you.
You startle Jeno the next day, pounding on his door and ignoring the glares you’re receiving in his hallway. The boy sleepily opens the door up for you, hair sticking out in multiple directions. He mumbles something under his breath and you ignore him, pushing through and entering his room.
“Well, come on in,” he hisses sarcastically.
You have no time to humor him. “Are alphas usually super clingy and annoying?”
He pauses at the question, closing the door slowly. You raise an eyebrow at his hesitation.
“Um, is this about Jaemin?”
“Maybe,” you drawl, watching Jeno carefully. He definitely knows something he’s not telling you about. “And what if it was?”
“Then I would say you need to talk to Jaemin.”
You roll your eyes. “Jeno!”
“What?” He retorts, avoiding your eyes as much as possible. “It’s not my place to say.”
“I don’t care if it’s your place or not,” you say, frustrated by your lack of alpha knowledge. You’ve tried to learn more since Jaemin presented himself, but it was difficult since many alpha secrets were kept between alphas only. “I need to know what’s going on with him. He’s been following me around every full moon like he’s expecting me to get mugged or something!”
Jeno exhales loudly. “He hasn’t talked to you? About anything?”
You huff. “Jeno, if I needed answers, I wouldn’t be standing here with you.”
The more you talk, the more Jeno grows uncomfortable. It almost seems like it pains him to say anything about Jaemin without him present, and it’s getting on your nerves. Jaemin usually never keeps secrets from you and it must be pretty big if Jeno is barely holding himself together.
Jeno finally speaks after you watch him run circles in his head. “What do you know about mates? Alpha mates?”
You frown, tilting your head to the side. “Mates? I didn’t even know alphas had mates.”
“They’re chosen specifically by an alpha. Someone the alpha has a connection to, someone they would like to spend the rest of their life with.”
He’s still not making any sense to you. Does Jaemin have a mate? Is it someone you know?
Jeno can see the gears spinning and he scoffs. He whispers something under his breath that you can’t hear.
“You need to talk to Jaemin about this. I really can’t say any more.”
You spare Jeno the interrogation and leave his room, thoughts swirling in your head. He’s given you everything and nothing at once, and you don’t even know if Jaemin will offer anything better. You trek over to his dorm anyways, on a mission.
His eyes soften when he sees you behind the door. It tugs at your heartstrings and he motions for you to come inside. The awkward tension drowns the room and you sway on your feet.
“I’m sorry,” he says first. “I know I made you uncomfortable by being with your friends last night, and I should’ve stayed away. I just get very worried around the full moon because-“
“What are alpha mates?”
Jaemin chokes, not expecting your question. You watch as he gathers himself again, and this time, he can’t bear to look at you.
“Where did you hear that from?”
“Jeno.”
Jaemin curses lowly. You frown, your gaze never faltering. You can practically see him trying to come up with some type of excuse.
“Jaemin, I want the truth.”
He sighs. “Can you sit down? Please?”
You reluctantly follow his request, taking a seat on his bed. He paces around the room, looking more nervous than you’ve ever seen him before. You begin to grow antsy while watching him.
“If you don’t want to tell me, that’s fine.”
His head snaps up to look at you, heart breaking at the dejected look on your face. He shakes his head and takes a seat next to you.
“I do, I want to tell you everything. I just want you to have a choice first,” he states, staring at you as if you hold all the answers.
You frown and shake your head. “What choice? You’re not making any sense.”
“I, uh, I unknowingly bonded myself to you. You became my mate, and I realized it too late. We spent too much time together and I should have taken a step back before it got too serious. I was just- I’m never in the correct headspace when I’m around you, and it causes me to impulsively make decisions. I can’t break the bond unless I wish to die a slow death, but if you want me to, I can try.”
You’re spiraling. Your brain is short circuiting, and you’re unsure of what to say in response. Your best friend has just confessed that he bonded himself to you for life, which probably runs deeper than marriage. If you reject him, he’ll die a painful death.
Wonderful.
Jaemin starts freaking out, standing back up and resuming his pacing. “Fuck, I shouldn’t have said anything. I should have left weeks ago, I shouldn’t even be bothering you with this. Listen, we can forget this ever happened. I’ll just- I’ll figure something out. Surely, I can break the bond-“
“Jaemin,” you say timidly. He stops in his tracks at the sound of your voice. “I think I’m okay with being your mate. I mean, I’d rather have it be you than anyone else. Not like you’re my second choice or anything! I just-“
He kneels down, his hands resting on the expanse of your thighs, causing you to jolt at the contact. His hands feel oddly warm, and it’s sending a plethora of dirty thoughts to your head.
“I don’t want you to do this because you feel bad,” he speaks softly. “If you don’t want this, we don’t have to do it. It’s my fault, and I’ll pay the price.”
You protest. “No, I’m doing this because I want to-“
“It’s a big decision-“
“I know that, and I-“
“I hardly think you’ve thought through this carefully-“
“Don’t tell me what I haven’t done-“
“I’ll just move away. It’ll be easier for the both of us that way.”
“Jaemin,” you hiss, placing your hands on his shoulders to stop him. “Can you quit being so difficult? I’m telling you I want to be with you and your rejection is making me feel upset.”
His expression falls. “I didn’t mean to make you upset. I don’t want to cage you in, that’s all.”
“You aren’t caging me in,” you promise him. “Can you tell me what being a mate entails?”
He flushes deep red, and you grow anxious once again. He removes his hands from your thighs and you silently wish he kept them there. He stands again, avoiding your questioning gaze.
“Um, well, technically- I mean, it’s just-“
“Jaemin,” you say sternly. “Stop dancing around the subject.”
He clears his throat. “Technically, we’re not fully mated yet. In order to complete the bonding process, we need to- um, well, we need to-“
“Jaemin!”
“We need to fuck!”
That definitely floors you. You blink at him, not believing what he said. You haven’t slept with anyone in months. You’re not going to lie — you’ve thought about Jaemin in that way a handful of times, mostly when it’s late at night and you’re left with an imaginative mind. You didn’t realize it could ever become a reality.
He starts rambling again. “Of course, I don’t want to make you do anything you’re uncomfortable with. I can’t imagine me putting my dick anywhere near you is appealing at the moment, so we can probably just forget it and-“
You say his name again to bring him out of his thoughts. “Can we try?”
He sputters, more than the last time. “W-What?”
“I mean, it can’t hurt, right? I trust you.”
“U-Uh, um, uh, I-“ He short circuits in front of you, struggling to find coherent words.
You don’t give him time to second guess again, immediately falling to your knees and reaching for the band of his sweatpants.
“Woah, woah, wait, let me just-“
Your mouth waters when you pull his cock out from his briefs, the tip already red and leaking. You don’t know if it’s because he’s an alpha, but his cock is absurdly large and thick. You can barely wrap your hand around the base and the thought of taking him into your mouth is daunting, but you would regret it if you didn’t try. You take an experimental lick, watching the way Jaemin struggles above you.
“Slow down, we don’t have to do this now-“
You ignore him again, enveloping the tip in your mouth as he releases a long groan. Your eyes flutter shut, pushing him deeper and deeper into your throat. You run your tongue along the base of his cock, licking and swallowing him. He’s barely holding on to the last string of his control, and you can tell by the way his hands are clenched at his sides.
You decide to push him further, casually deepthroating him and locking your gaze with his. The sound of you choking on him snaps him awake, and it isn’t long before he’s gripping your hair and throwing you on his bed. You squeal at the force of his movements. He pushes you on your stomach, fingers gripping the flesh of your ass.
He hisses in your ear. “You’re going to be a good girl for your alpha, aren’t you?”
“I’ll be good, alpha,” you keen. “I’m good for you.”
“Yeah?” He grunts, watching as you arch your back. “You’ve been waiting a long time for me, haven’t you?”
“So long,” you practically sob. “Just want my alpha to make me feel good.”
You hear the rip of your skirt and he tears the fabric of your top, tossing both items across the room. He’s feral at this point and you have no intention of stopping him. It feels electrifying to have him this close to you, touching you in all the places you never thought before.
Even though he’s your best friend, it feels as if he’s been doing this with you for years. He doesn’t feel like a stranger as he grabs your waist, finger running up and down your clothed slit.
“Aw, pretty girl, look at how wet you are for me,” he muses, pulling your underwear down to fully see you. “So beautiful. Is this all for me?”
“Yes,” you whimper. “All for you, just for you.”
You see stars when he sinks his finger into you, moaning at his touch. You hear him murmur behind you.
“So so perfect, so pretty and wet. You’re so good for your alpha.”
You flourish under Jaemin’s praises, his eyes observing as you submit further to him. You wish you read more on the subject of alphas and their mates. The way Jaemin’s touching you is sending your mind into overdrive, and you’re not even sure what to do when you hear the slick of your cunt as he slides another finger into you. He’s cooing at you, chanting how you’re such a ‘good girl’ for him.
You shut your eyes as he builds a steady pace with his fingers, brushing against your sweet spot. You moan loudly, not registering the volume of your voice. He doesn’t seem to mind you being loud either.
“Such pretty noises,” he hums, digging his other hand into your side and picking up the pace inside of you. You cry and squirm away from him, but he holds you in place. “I imagined for so long what you would sound like. Full moons were the worst. I couldn’t bear the thought of someone else being able to see you like this, touch you like this. You drove me insane.”
“J-Jaemin,” you whimper, getting closer and closer to snapping.
He hums again in response. “Almost there, sweet girl? You’re so pliant for me, so easy to fuck. But it’s all for me and only me, isn’t that right?”
“Yes, yes, only for you, alpha,” you whisper, fingers gripping the sheets as you near the edge.
“Pretty little pussy you have, I can’t wait to knot you. You’re going to take my knot so well, aren’t you? I chose you to take it, and to stuff your cunt full of my cum. I wonder how I could fit my cock into you, you seem too small to take it, pretty girl.”
“I-I can t-take it,” you struggle to get the words out, your brain turning a bit fuzzy. Once he brushes your sweet spot again, your body explodes and you sob loudly at the intensity of your orgasm. Jaemin praises you throughout it, eyes locked on your cunt gushing into his palm.
“So pretty, such a pretty girl. You came so much for me.”
As you float down from your high, you can hear the sound of Jaemin greedily licking his fingers. You nearly scream when you feel his tongue prod at your pussy.
“No, n-no, Jaem, please-“ you begin to beg, squeamish from the overstimulation, but it’s useless. He loves the taste of your cunt already, digging in like it’s his last meal.
Your body begins to ache and you slowly sink down on the bed, tired of arching your back. Jaemin doesn’t seem to mind, following you down as he slurps up your cunt. You’re mumbling incoherent noises as he sucks on your folds, and you can feel his smile when he plays with your clit.
“Alpha,” you whisper breathlessly. “Alpha, I can’t.”
He clicks his tongue. “I know you can. I chose you because you can. Take what I give you, pretty girl. I know you can be good for me.”
You lay there, boneless, as he dips his tongue into your entrance. You barely scream when your second orgasm rolls over you, the sound catching in your throat. He licks up the evidence and you try to wave your hand back to stop him. He gets the message, pulling back and wiping his chin with the back of his hand.
“You taste so sweet, pretty girl. I’ve never tasted a cunt that good before. All for me, right?”
“Yes,” you answer. “All for you, alpha.”
You hear him shifting behind you, and you see him toss his clothes over his shoulder. He picks you up and adjusts you until you’re seated on his lap, hovering just above his cock. He takes note of your sleepy gaze and smiles, kissing down your neck.
“Tired, sweet girl? Don’t want to take my cock anymore?”
You blearily blink. “No, no, I want to take your cock, alpha. Please give it to me.”
He chuckles at your compliance, eyes zeroing in on your glistening pussy. “You’ve been so good for me. Want your reward now?”
“Yes, yes, alpha.”
He suddenly turns serious, brushing your hair away and cupping your cheeks.
“This means forever. I want you to understand that.”
It’s a little frightening — the thought of being bound to someone forever. However, you’re willing to do anything for Jaemin, and you know he loves you. You’re blissfully happy at the thought of forever.
You nod, smiling. “Want to be with you, Jaem.”
He grins and presses a kiss to your lips. “Good girl.”
Your smile quickly turns into a gasp as he pushes you down on his cock. You scramble in his hold, fingers digging into his shoulders.
He shushes you softly. “It’s okay, pretty girl. I got you, trust me.”
Head thrown back and lips parted, you feel utterly fucked as Jaemin impales you. You weren’t even aware your cunt could stretch this far for him, taking him in. The stretch doesn’t hurt like you think it will, it feels surprisingly satisfying. You feel whole like this, finally connecting him to you.
Once he bottoms out, he gives you time to adjust. You don’t even realize you’re crying until he wipes stray tears from your cheek.
“You’re doing so well for me, sweet girl. Took my cock so well. I know you’ll take my knot like a champ too.”
You feel drunk on him despite the fact that his cock could split you in half. You take a few more seconds to yourself before you nod, giving him the okay to move.
He starts out gently, even though you can see him clenching his teeth trying to control himself. You decide to push him.
You lean in and whisper in his ear. “Fuck me good, alpha. Show me I’m yours, and yours only.”
He throws you back down onto the bed, growling at your submission. You cry when he drills into you, showing no mercy any longer. His cock is tearing you apart and you welcome it with open arms. His fingers dig roughly into your scalp, his other hand groping your breast.
“You like it when your alpha fucks you like this? You like it when I have control of you?” He practically growls at you, hips snapping into your thighs roughly. Your mouth hangs open, and if you were lucid, you would be embarrassed by the drool pooling at the side of your lips. He continues muttering obscenities at you, fueled by the feeling of your warm pussy wrapped around his cock. “Gonna fuck you until you can’t think of anyone else. Every time you touch yourself, you’re going to think about me. Only me. I’m going to make sure everyone knows you’re mine, make sure you’re pretty and pregnant for me.”
His fingers move from your breast into your mouth, and you subconsciously suck on the digits.
He snickers. “Look at you. Such a pretty fuck toy for me, taking my cock so well. You were made to be fucked, sweet girl. Made to take my cock and my cock only.”
You’re definitely out of coherent thoughts at this point. Jaemin flips you again, arching your back and you whimper at the ache. He drives into you harder and faster from behind, his balls slapping against your cunt in the most unholy way.
“Alpha, alpha, alpha,” you groan. “My alpha. So good, my alpha, so good. So big.”
“Need you to cum, sweet girl. Want to feel it. Give it to me, pretty girl.”
“Alpha, alpha,” you whimper, the coil in your stomach building and building. You soar when it snaps, and you swear you see white clouding your vision. You cry and cry, tears freely falling down your face as you clench around Jaemin.
You think you pass out for a few seconds. When you regain your strength, he’s flipped you on your side, gripping your ankle as he throws your foot over his shoulder. You let him do whatever he wants at this point, enjoying the way he presses against your clit every time he pushes in.
You can only hear parts of what he’s saying, a ringing sound still echoing in your ears.
“So good- such a pretty cunt- want to fuck you forever- going to show you off- beautiful- fucking pretty pussy- such a good girl for me.”
“J-Jaem,” you say, but you know he can’t hear you anymore. You think you have another orgasm, but the pleasure is mixing together too fast. You blackout again, waking up moments later to find Jaemin still fucking you senseless.
You’re on your back again with Jaemin hovering over you, pressing kisses down your neck. He’s muttering praises still, hands digging into your sides.
“Want to feel you forever. So good for me, pretty girl. You ready to take my knot?”
You lazily comb your fingers through his hair, feeling exhausted. “Please, alpha, give it to me.”
“Yeah?” He groans, pressing harder into you. “Want me?”
“I want you, I want you,” you echo, the familiar sensation pulsing through your veins.
He’s drilling faster now, pumping furiously into you as he chases his high. You think you’re screaming, but you can’t be entirely sure. You feel bad for whoever lives on Jaemin’s floor.
When he cums, you swear he’s been holding it in for years. His cum splashes against your walls as he empties himself inside of you. You squeeze around him again, finishing another orgasm.
It’s a few minutes later when you think it’s finally over. You start to relax, but the feeling is short lived. You sob when the base of Jaemin’s cock begins to swell, growing bigger and bigger.
“N-No, no, no, no-“
He shushes you. “It’s okay, pretty girl. You take my knot so well, I have so much cum for you.”
You swear you’ve lost your mind when Jaemin does, in fact, give you even more of his cum. It starts to leak out of your cunt because of the sheer amount, and he urges you through it with soft kisses. When he’s finally done, you feel like you’ve been fucked into the next century.
The only thing you can manage to say is, “You can’t fuck me again for three months, at least.”
He laughs at you and you try to throw him a serious look. He kisses your cheek.
“Oh, silly girl. What did I tell you before? I chose you because you’re made for me. You honestly don’t think I’m going to stop fucking you now, do you?”
Your eyes widen at his confession, and you shriek when he thrusts into you, his cock still hard.
“Such a pretty girl.”

Could i request Diluc angst oneshot where reader and him get into a big disagreement or argument where Diluc makes them cry and feel really bad about themself so they go and end up hanging out with Kaeya a bit much cause he offered to cheer reader up and Diluc won't apologize. until he see's his s/o hanging out with Kaeya
I actually wrote 2 different versions of the ending for this, but this is the one I decided to go with! If you want the more angsty version do let me know.
Anyway,
Harsh Words
Diluc x Reader
Screaming. Yelling that could be heard throughout the Dawn Winery residence late into the night, heard only by the maids, the night security, and perhaps a late worker or two.
And of course, by the two individuals who held the voices.
It was rather unusual for the two of you to be at odds; and, on the occasion in which you were, it wasn’t nearly to this degree.
But the two of you were outright screaming at each other. It wasn’t even about one thing anymore - it was everything. Whatever you had been arguing about had reached the point of irrelevance; It never should have reached this point and you knew that, but you were under fire and you couldn’t stop.
All you knew was that this was Diluc’s fault, and that you couldn’t take this kind of argument.
“If you just thought about your actions for once-”
You cut him off, “Oh don’t try me with that, you’re the one treating me like I’m an idiot and trying to control my-”
“If you had just listened for once and been less of a selfish bitch then I wouldn’t have to!”
His words had cut far deeper than either of you had expected, and you physically recoiled at the words, a sudden wave washing over you which forced tears from your eyes. The truth in his words was irrelevant - It felt true, even if it wasn’t.
You turn away from him. In spite of your state, he makes no move toward you. None, not even to give you the slightest feel of any comfort. You knew - he wanted the words to cut through you.
You go to the door and slip on your shoes, leaving the room as fast as you humanly could.
You can’t take this anymore.
But you don’t make it past the front door. As if by telepathy, Diluc has two of his night security waiting by the door in a stance showing you that they’re ready to make sure you don’t leave. They block your path, silent in their menace. When you turn around, only then do you notice Adelinde and Hille quietly staring at you. Diluc’s footsteps down the stairs are a slow horror, an even pace which served to only emphasize that feeling of dread; Very easily, this felt like the perfect time to be murdered.
The drawl of footsteps approach, yet cease a few meters away - he’s far too distant to do anything himself. His eyes lock on yours, quietly assessing you.
“Diluc, let me leave.” You hiss through streaming tears. You nearly choke on the tension in the air.
He doesn’t say anything for a moment. His eyes don’t show any expression, show any remorse or guilt, or even happiness. Truly, there is nothing in his eyes.
“Let me make myself clear: You are not leaving this premises in the middle of the night. Do you understand me?”
“Not even slightly.”
Silence. His eyes flicker, the way they do when he sees an abyss mage, or when Kaeya makes a comment that goes a little too far - pure anger.
“Adelinde, fix up the guest room.”
“No need. I’ll be leaving now.” You scoff.
Diluc tilts his head, peering over you and towards his security as if to say ‘don’t you fucking dare let them through’.
Then another look, and you feel yourself being pushed into the house again, the slam of the doors behind you.
A wave of anger washes over you, and you can’t help the excess of tears that fall, harder now than they had been before.
Diluc holds his ground, staring at you silently. You shake your head and look away, not sure what to do with yourself. Their staring puts you in pure disarray.
“Adelinde.”
“Yes, sorry.” She mutters, bowing and taking her leave in the direction of the guest bedroom in order to prepare it for you.
When she’s gone, you shake your head. “I’m not going to be sleeping.”
“Then stay in your room. I don’t care.” He huffs, turning away and wandering back up the stairs, his footsteps seeming less menacing now.
The argument was done.
Your eyes catch a light outside the window, seeming to exist a far distance away. Maybe it was the fire of a hilichurl camp.
What time was it? Surely the sun would be up soon anyway.
Fine. You would leave then, no matter what.
When you got to your room, you actually did manage to sleep. Not nearly enough; An hour was nothing in the long run, but it was still just slightly enough to not feel entirely exhausted.
Still, the sun was up when you arose, and you lay in the bed, uncertain as to what would happen when you left the room.
If Diluc wasn’t going to apologise, you wanted nothing to do with him.
So, after a little while of resting, it was a surprise to hear a knock at the door. You were summoned to breakfast. Nearly the entire time, you and Diluc sat across from each other - an oddity indeed considering he would always insist that he wanted you seated beside him - this time, however, you were as far from his as possible within the confines of the seated table. The usually empty seat felt hard beneath you, not softened by an everyday presence. Your usual seat to his right - where your plate had been placed before you had taken it to where you were now - was empty.
Neither of you could look into each other’s eyes. The silence, broken only by the light clinks of cutlery, felt burdenous.
You expected him to say something, anything really. You could barely eat the food on your breakfast plate, and without any words, you didn’t feel all too comfortable anyway. You let out a quiet sigh and stood up, tucking in your chair and lifting your plate to take it back to the kitchen.
“Where are you going?” Diluc’s voice was quiet but the harshness in it was unmistakable.
“I’m not hungry.” You looked down at the plate in your hands. “I’m going to Mondstadt.”
Diluc stood up suddenly, pushing back his chair and stepping close to you. The sudden movement caused you to shutter slightly, and he pulled back a bit. Still, he tore the plate from your hands and placed it on the table. “When you return, be ready to have a serious conversation.”
Oh.
You opened your mouth to speak, but then huffed and turned away. “Right. I’ll look forward to getting yelled at again.”
Diluc scoffed, “Stop acting like a petulant child.”
“I’m not doing this right now, Diluc.” Your feet are moving before you can even think about it. This time, as you approached the door, no one was there to stop you. You left with no present company to watch over you, and you knew that today was going to be a long, long day.
——
Mondstadt thrives with life, as per usual. Because of how bright and pleasant the place is, any spec of gloom is extremely obvious on a day like this.
You took to the adventurers guild to take some commissions. Maybe killing some hilichurls or slimes would take your mind off of it all, or maybe just delivering some needed materials to someone.
The entire time you had been speaking to Katheryn, you felt eyes watching you, but you didn’t want to make it obvious you knew. Alas, it was only moments later that you startled at the feeling of a hand on your shoulder.
“No need to be so surprised.” The familiar voice chuckles beside you.
“Good morning, Kaeya.” You let out a soft sigh, the exhaustion of the day before wearing into you. You thanked Katheryn and turned your attention to Kaeya. His eyebrows twitched and his expression shifted as he studied you.
“What happened?” He asks rather blatantly, eyes clouding over. “Was it Diluc?”
You took a deep breath. “Wanna join me for commissions?”
Kaeya scans your eyes. “As long as you tell me what’s wrong.”
“Come on.” You nod, wandering out of Mondstadt with him.
The slowly falling night brought you back to Mondstadt. You agreed to go to the tavern with Kaeya, a subtle kind of thank you for spending time with you today. It wasn’t like you were doing anything else anyway.
The tavern was already busy before you got there, people crowding around for a nights drink. You subconsciously step towards Kaeya as if shading yourself away from the crowded atmosphere and he is wary of your proximity. He draws you to his side, a friendly notion, and steps inside before you.
Charles waves at you both from behind the counter. Kaeya quickly orders a round of drinks and takes you to a table away from the bar.
“Hey, look who’s been dragged in.” Rosaria wanders over, quietly making soft chatter with you. It wasn’t unusual for the two of you to spend some time together.
Kaeya eventually wanders away, grabbing your drinks and bringing them back over.
Time seemed to dwindle away, the mindless chatter with your friends giving you more than ample distraction from anything else that might have been happening.
“Master Diluc! Didn’t expect to see you here today.” Charles’ voice rings out.
Of course, that wasn’t going to last long.
You lift your head slightly, tensing up. Diluc is scanning the room, twisting his wrist lightly as he speaks quietly to Charles; The words miss you. You freeze as your eyes lock. For just a moment you’re caught in that discerning gaze before he nods at you and turns back to talk to Charles. Kaeya draws your attention back away, and you slip back into your conversation, not wanting to deal with anything else.
“I’ll get another round.” Rosaria gets up and makes her way through the tavern, leaning over the bar and making another order for the table.
“How many are we on?” You ask, already flushed from the… how many glasses had you even had?
“Five.” Kaeya laughs, leaning on your shoulder. “But now that the killjoy’s here, he’ll stop us from having our well-earned fun.”
“I heard that.” Diluc scoffed, passing by you.
“Good.” Kaeya wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you closer to him, more out of a delicate affection than anything else. Diluc’s eyes narrow at his brother, who just laughs in response.
“Get your hands off of-“
“Oh don’t worry, brother. I would never keep them somewhere they don’t want to be.” Kaeya mocks. “You, on the other hand, can’t say the same.” Even with his words, he loosens his hold on you and leans back a bit.
Rosaria returns with your round, greeting Diluc casually as she slips back into her seat. Your pissed off boyfriend wanders away back to his work.
It clicks in your hazy mind that the only reason he’s here is likely because you are. You laugh at the thought, then clink your tankard to the group and drink.
As the evening wears down, many people in the bar until it’s pretty much only your group and a few others left there. Diluc lets out a soft sigh as he watches you, trying to soften that jealous pounding of his heart. He takes a sip of his own drink - apple cider, of course. He could never slam back drinks the way that your group currently were. Where had the hours gone?
Oh, no. How many drinks had you had? Whatever was next, he swore to himself that he would make sure that it was watered down. At this rate, you were pretty much welcoming alcohol poisoning with open arms.
Kaeya, wobbly as ever, decides to be the one to approach the bar this time (mostly because Rosaria was leaning against the table, head folded into her arms as she groaned). Diluc shook his head. “No, no. The three of you will drink this whole tavern dry if I don’t stop you.”
“Oh, I’m not here to get any more.” He leans on the countertop. “I just want to know what the hell you did.” Kaeya motions over to you. You’re just giggling at Rosaria’s complaining, leaning over and patting her on the head.
“I’m not talking to you about this.” Diluc leans back, crossing his arms stubbornly.
“Suit yourself.” He straights up. “I should probably get her out of here before you say something stupid.”
“I’m not going to be saying anything stupid.” Diluc shakes his head, looking over the list of all the drinks you’ve had this evening. “You’re all wasted.”
“And yet, you haven’t said last call.”
Seemingly to spite him, DIluc immediately does. He signals over to Charles to round up the remaining people. He knew to leave you last.
Kaeya’s laugh is enough to haunt him. “You make this right, Diluc.” He runs his finger over the counter. “Otherwise I will.”
“Get out of my sight.”
The cavalry captain laughs again, then wanders over to your table. He practically drags Rosaria back up, but she pushes away from him and made her own way to the counter - always a good spirit, she paid for her own portion of drinks and left. Being a nun, she probably didn’t need to use the money elsewhere.
Kaeya was two steps away from just carrying you out the door, but through his drunk mind he finds the clarity to understand just how absolutely inappropriate that would be to do, especially in front of Diluc. Alas, you lean on his shoulder as he assists your steps.
“Where do you think you’re going?” Diluc’s voice calls out, as if to stop you both.
“Usual billing.” Kaeya calls back.
“No, no.” You both look back at him. He shifts on his feet, eyes locking with yours. “I’ll be damned if you go home with him.”
“Then damned you are.” You roll your eyes, turning away.
He calls your name softly. “Step away from him. Come here.”
You take a deep breath. “I am so glad I don’t have to remember any of this.”
Diluc places a glass of water in front of you. “Drink this. You wreak of alcohol.”
“And you wreak of your hatred.” You sit down in front of him, knowing that it wasn’t about to get better.
Diluc’s eyes flicker up to Kaeya. “Get out.”
“Not happening.”
“Kaeya, this doesn’t concern you.”
“Their safety is more than enough concern.”
“It’s alright, Kaeya, just wait outside.” You pipe in, not wanting even more stress.
Kaeya agrees, quietly slipping out the door. Charles is told to escort him away, an act which may have varying success.
Either way, you sat in front of Diluc, not sure what exactly to say to him.
“I’m tired, Diluc. I’m tired of this. I can’t put up with-“
“I’m sorry.” He blurts out, interrupting you. “Please, hear me out.”
“I’m not going to remember-“
“Then I’ll tell you again when you will.” He leans over the counter, not wanting to be apart from you. He calls your name again, as if to hold your attention, “Can we talk about this?”
“I think we talked about this already.” You groan. “Yesterday, plenty of yelling. The Maids and guards can confirm.”
Diluc takes a long breath out. You lift the glass of water and take an even longer sip.
Maybe the barrier of the counter between you made you feel better. But, as tears sprung to your eyes, you felt so, so much worse.
“Do you hate me?” You ask, your voice squeaking. “Do you want to break up with me.”
“No, Y/N.” He reaches for your hands, but you had pushed your stool too far away from him beforehand that he couldn’t. He circles around the bar and gently grabs both of your hands, soft enough in his hold for you to be able to pull away. “Don’t ever say that. I love you.”
“Then, why?” You sob, turning your face away from him, hands still in his. “Why did you yell at me? Why wouldn’t you talk to me this morning?”
“I…“ Diluc stops himself, taking a deep breath. “I was angry. We were both angry.” He shifts, pulling out a stool and sitting in front of you. “I wasn’t acting rationally.”
“When you said you wanted to talk this morning, what were you going to say?”
Diluc hesitates, gripping your hands just a little bit harder. “I was going to ask… I was going to ask if you were happy.” He admitted, quietly. “But I can’t do that. I can’t put you through that.”
You tug him toward you, pulling his hands close to your face. “Why would you say that? I love you.” You sob into his soft skin.
He takes his hands away from your gently, slipping them around your waist and pulling you close to him, into his lap. He tightens his grip. “I’m sorry.” He repeats. “I’m so sorry. I never want you to cry.” He feels his heartbeat heavily in his chest, a distraught washing over him. “Don’t ever destroy yourself like this again.” He runs a hand over your back.
You don’t say anything. You’re way too drunk for many more coherent thoughts to pass your lips. You lift your head and plant a soft kiss on his cheek, and he softly kisses your forehead, pulling you back to his chest so that you don’t try to kiss him anymore - He wasn’t about to let that happen, you were far too drunk.
Diluc was ashamed of his thoughts. His guilt, rising only when he saw you in the present company of his brother, showing affection and finding comfort anywhere except for him. He didn’t want to admit it to himself, nor to you, but as you cried into his shoulder, he couldn’t help the wave of disappointment in himself that washed over. Why could he never be there for the people who needed him most?
“Come on, finish your water, let’s get you home.” He insists, though he holds you tightly still until you stir.
You take the water, sipping it with a slight indignance. He would have to apologize to you again in the morning, but he would do anything to get you to trust him again.

Keith Kogane - I’m Not Going Anywhere
Not Going Anywhere
A/N: Modern life AU.
Also, any genders and pronouns are acceptable to request. If not specified, I default to female, because that’s the majority of reader inserts in my experience.
Summary: You’ve been dating Keith for about six months, but you’ve only recently met his group of friends. He’s worried that they each have more to offer you than he does, and his insecurities eat away at him until you calm him down.
Words: 2,063
“Your girlfriend is coming to the party, right?”
Keith froze, glancing up at Shiro where the older man stood beside the stove, preparing a pot of spinach artichoke dip. He was a disaster at cooking actual food, but he’d managed to learn to prepare dips like a boss.
“Uh…” was all the black-haired boy managed in response, shoving a spoonful of cereal into his mouth.
“Come on, Keith,” Shiro chided gently, employing his best Older Brother voice. “You’ve been seeing this girl for, what, six months now? I think it’s time I met her. And what better time to introduce her to the gang than at your birthday party?”
“Do I have to introduce her to everyone?” Keith whined, glaring down at his breakfast. “Can’t she just meet you and be done with it?”
Shiro sighed, turning to argue when he caught sight of his brother’s expression. Keith wasn’t one for expressing his emotions, so Shiro had learned early on how to read the arch of his brow and the shine of his eyes. Keith currently looked crestfallen, which given the circumstances meant that insecurities were buzzing around inside his head.
“It’s going to be fine, Keith,” the older boy commented, taking a seat across from Keith at the table. “Everyone is going to love her, and she’s going to love your friends.”
“That’s what I’m worried about,” was all Keith murmured before he stood, setting his cereal bowl in the sink before turning to skulk down the hallway towards his room.
“I’d love to go to his birthday party!” you squealed into the phone, balancing it between your ear and your shoulder so you had free use of your hands. “I’m almost done decorating his cake. I could bring it with me!”
“He’d love that,” Shiro chuckled on the other end. “We’re not a baking-inclined family, so it’s always store-bought cakes for us.”
“He told me he just wanted to do something simple to celebrate with me,” you returned, swirling icing atop the cake to add calligraphic decoration to Keith’s name. “I wonder why he didn’t tell me you were throwing him a party.”
“He doesn’t like being the center of attention,” Shiro reasoned.
You hummed in agreement. “That’s true.” Setting the piping bag on the counter, you paused, a frown forming on your lips. “It’s not… He wants me to come, right? He won’t be mad that you invited me?”
Shiro sighed into the receiver, and you bit your lip nervously. “He’ll be upset that I went behind his back, but I know him very well, and I think he’d enjoy the party a lot more if you were there. He’s just nervous about you meeting his friends. They can be a handful.”
“If you’re sure,” you replied. The last thing you wanted to do was upset your boyfriend while trying to celebrate his birthday. “I’ll be there. With a cake.”
“Perfect,” the man on the phone replied. “I’ll see you tonight. It’ll be great, I promise.”
You hung up the phone and set it on the counter, admiring your handiwork on your boyfriend’s cake. Exhaling softly, you tried to believe Shiro’s words. Everything would be fine.
Your heart hammered in your chest as you approached the front door of Shiro and Keith’s shared house. Carefully balancing the cake with one hand, you raised the other to knock on the door, waiting patiently but anxiously for someone to answer. The door opened to reveal Shiro, smiling widely upon seeing you on the other side.
“(y/n)! It’s so great to meet you!” he greeted enthusiastically. “I’m Shiro, Keith’s older brother. I apologize if I startled you with that phone call earlier – I wasn’t sure Keith would actually follow through and invite you.”
“He didn’t,” you giggled. “I don’t mind at all. I’ve been wanting to meet you for months.”
“Let me take that for you,” he offered, easing the cake out of your hold. He headed inside, nodding for you to follow him. You closed the door behind you, following the tall man- like seriously, how was he that tall?-  into the kitchen. There stood a thicker boy, nearly as tall as Shiro, stirring and chopping like a professional chef.
“That cheese sauce smells amazing, Hunk,” Shiro complimented the cook, placing the cake on the counter.
“It’s almost done- ooh, where’d the cake come from?” the cook inquired.
         “Keith’s girlfriend.”
The spoon being used to stir the cheese sauce fell to the floor with a clink, gooey cheese splashing all over the tile.
         “Keith’s what?!”
The tall, tanned cook spun on his heel, a grin splitting his lips as he caught sight of you. “She’s real!”
Shiro laughed softly, stepping closer to you. “Hunk, this is (y/n). (y/n), this is Hunk, our resident chef. He shares a few classes with Keith.”
“I’m an engineering major,” Hunk explained, offering his hand. You placed your comparably tiny hand in his, giggling softly.
“It’s nice to meet you. Keith has mentioned your cooking.”
Hunk’s eyes sparkled at the confirmation that the emotionally constipated raven appreciated his food before he turned back to the stove.
“Hey, Shiro, what-“ Keith stopped in his tracks as he entered the kitchen, his eyes widening as he stared at you. “(y/n)? What are you doing here?”
“I invited her because I knew you wouldn’t,” Shiro explained.
“It’s okay that I’m here, right, babe?” you questioned, brows furrowing with worry as you took Keith’s hands in yours.
“Babe?” teased an unfamiliar voice. “Keith lets someone call him babe?” A tall, thin brunet sauntered into view, resting his elbow on your boyfriend’s shoulder. “Hey, who’s the hottie? She’s- ow!”
Keith’s elbow collided with the brunet’s rib, and he stepped away.
“Yeah, it’s okay,” Keith murmured, lacing his fingers with yours, but you could hear the uncertainty in his voice. You stood up on your toes, pressing your lips to his, and he melted into the gesture despite having an audience. The brunet from before whistled at the sight, and Keith pulled back with a glare in his eyes and a blush on his cheeks.
“I’m (y/n,” you introduced, offering your hand.
“The name’s Lance,” the tan brunet grinned, taking your hand in his and lightly kissing your knuckles. You simply raised a brow in response, unsurprised when Keith ripped Lance’s hand away from yours.
“She’s taken,” he growled, wrapping an arm around your waist. You giggled softly, resting your head on Keith’s shoulder.
“Is that everyone?” you inquired, looking towards Shiro.
“Hunk!” another voice called from the hallway. “Are the nachos done? I’m starving- oh, hey.”
         Finally, someone not insanely tall.
“I’m Pidge,” they offered, lifting their hand to their head in a salute. “You must be Keith’s girlfriend.”
“(y/n),” you countered. “Are you another friend of his?”
Pidge stole a chip from the bowl on the table, popping it into their mouth. “If that’s what we’re calling it. I’m friends with Lance and Hunk, and they kinda forced Keith to join the group.”
“I encouraged it,” Shiro replied. “My brother needs social skills.”
“I have plenty of social skills,” Keith grumbled in response.
Lance snickered loudly, Pidge choked on a ship, and Hunk chuckled from his place at the stove.
“I got myself a girlfriend without your interference, didn’t I?” your boyfriend defended, his grip around your wait tightening.
“How did you two meet, anyway?” Pidge questioned.
“I’m an art major,” you replied. “We met in Interpretive Painting.”
“Keith takes art classes?” Lance gasped, his voice raising several octaves.
         “Makes sense,” Pidge shrugged.
“Interpretive Painting?” Hunk repeated. “That sounds like fun.”
“Ah, someone who will encourage my brother to keep working on his art,” Shiro smiled. “I already love her.”
Keith used his hand on your waist to guide you away from the others, leading you to the living room. He sat on the couch, pulling you onto his lap, securing his arms around you. Your own arms wrapped around his neck, your fingers toying with his thick raven hair. His nose nuzzled into your neck as he inhaled deeply, enjoying the scent of your body wash.
“Why didn’t you want me to meet them?” you inquired softly. “They seem nice.”
“Too nice,” he murmured against your skin. “They’ll take you away from me.”
You pulled away from Keith just enough to lift his head, caressing his jaw with your hand, gazing softly into his violet eyes. “You don’t really think that, do you?”
His gaze dropped somewhere behind you – a tell that the current situation made him vulnerable and insecure.
“You heard them in there. I’m not social. How many times have you told me I suck at texting back? If you hadn’t been so friendly, I wouldn’t have even been able to ask you out.”
“So?” you questioned, brushing your thumb across is cheekbone. “I’m dating you, aren’t I? If you being anti-social was an issue, I wouldn’t have said yes.”
He sighed, dropping his forehead to your shoulder. “Lance is better at romance and dating. Pidge is smart, and you like a lot of the same games. Hunk can cook actual meals. They have more to offer you.”
Your heart broke at his honesty. You knew how hard it was for Keith to be so open, even with you. He must have been dreading the day you met his friends if he was this concerned about it.
Taking his face in your hands, you lifted his head until you can access his mouth. You gently pressed your lips to his, pouring your emotions into the kiss. He sighed softly against your lips, his arms tightening around your waist. You let one hand slide back to tangle in his hair, gently tugging on the strands.
“I’m not going anywhere,” you promised between kisses. “I love you, Keith. Befriending your friends means I get to spend more time with you and learn more about you. They’re not going to take me from you, I promise.”
“Dinner is done!” Hunk’s voice called from the kitchen.
You slid off of Keith’s lap, much to his dismay, and offered him a hand. “Come on, babe. Let’s go eat.”
He took your hand, lacing your fingers and squeezing softly as he followed you into the kitchen. Chips, cheese, meat, and vegetables decorated the table as a homemade nacho bar for everyone to dig into. Keith’s amethyst eyes danced around the kitchen, landing on an unfamiliar container on the counter.
“What’s that?” he inquired, turning his gaze to Hunk.
         Hunk grinned. “(y/n) brought it.”
“It’s your cake,” you replied, shoving a fully-coated nacho into your mouth.
“You made me a cake?” Keith questioned, his eyes softening as he looked at you.
“The plan was for us to have a private party after you were done here,” you shrugged. “When Shiro invited me, I figured I might as well bring the cake.”
Keith dipped his head, pressing a loving kiss to your lips. Lance and Pidge cat-called from somewhere behind you, but Keith didn’t seem to mind. Shiro smiled from behind Keith, shaking his head softly.
After dinner and cake were thoroughly enjoyed, you followed Keith and his friends to the living room to watch movies. He sat on the couch and you reclaimed your place on his lap, snuggling into his chest. His hands intertwined with yours, his fingertips brushing your knuckles, and you peppered soft kisses to his jaw, reminding him that you were his.
While everyone was enthralled in the movie, you turned to face your boyfriend. You untangled a hand from his in order to lift it to his face, cupping his cheek. He turned his gaze from the movie to look at you, a soft expression in his eyes that only you were allowed to see. You shifted in his lap, pulling his lips down to yours. He tilted his head to deepen the kiss, gently nipping at your lower lip with his teeth. You were tempted to give in until you recalled your company, reluctantly breaking the kiss and settling back against his chest.
“I’m not going anywhere,” you murmured softly, squeezing his hand as you watched the movie. The kiss he pressed to the side of your head told you that he understood, and while you knew his insecurities wouldn’t be magically washed away, you also knew that he was trying and that was more than enough for you.

Gluttony: The Second Circle of Dante’s Inferno
“What I like about gluttony,' a bishop I knew used to say, 'is that it doesn't hurt anyone else.'”
You hadn’t the faith to believe him when he said it.
It was hard to call the exchanges that occurred between the two of you a conversation. More or less, he spoke the truth of your reality and you simply didn’t have the gall to question it.
The elevator he thrust you into was cold and unnerving despite the cheesy jazz music that thankfully filled the void of silence you were sure would have deafened you if it prolonged itself. It gave you time to think on his words, more so than you would have liked to.
“The flesh endures the storms of the present alone; the mind, those of the past and future as well as the present. Gluttony is a lust of the mind. It is a poison that is all-consuming of the senses.”
Gluttony was the next trial, so it seemed. Lord knows what lies ahead for you, leaving you foolishly clutching to the notion that this circle couldn’t possibly be worse than the last.
The abrupt halt to the elevator allows the gravity of the situation to sink in fully. The inescapable horror was creeping in through the crack in the door, especially when it opened to find a man waiting for you.
And what a man he was, standing at nearly eight feet.
“Just the gal I was lookin’ for! I was worried my favorite lil sidekick had run off right after quitin’ time.”
An enormous, gloved hand clapped down on your shoulder, lingering far longer than you would have liked.
“Follow me to my office, yeah? I got something I wanna discuss with ya.”
And just like that, the string of fate slipped around your neck like a noose and pulled you along down the empty hallway, save for you, the man, and the numerous amounts of plaques, awards, and other celebratory memorabilia decorating the agency halls.
Judging by the pictures you saw yourself in, you were a hero of sorts, working alongside the unnamed man and two others you had yet to meet. Hopefully, your paths would never cross.
Even inside his office, you could see the remnants of what your life would be in this circle of hell. Whoever was with you seemed to be very fond of you, given the number of photographs and newspaper clippings adorning his desk and walls of the office.
“Y’know, I’ve been thinking about you a lot, and not just your fantastic work as a hero. Been thinking about what a fine woman you’ve grown to be.”
Those large hands found your shoulders again, stroking and rubbing to set you at ease in his grasp.
“Strong.”
One dipped down to your waist.
“Sweet.”
The other onto your arm.
“Everything a man like me needs. You sure fill my appetite in more than one way.”
Finally, the rest on your hips, thumbing circles into the soft flesh he took purchase in there.
Ah, so this was the glutton in question.
“I’m not sure I’m following what you mean.”
Just play dumb, maybe this circle will have mercy on you.
“Oh, don’t play coy with me, honey. There’s no reason to get all shy on me; I promise I don’t bite-”
His hand slid up to your neck, resting comfortably while enveloping the entirety of it with just his palm.
“Unless you ask for it.”
The whisper in his voice sent shivers down your spine, leaving you frozen in his grasp. It was undeniable that you would never beat him, no matter what your power may be in this world. Hell, if you even had one, how certain were you that you could use it?
Your options were far and few between, but laying down and taking it like some pathetic little bitch was not going to be an option for you. Not here, not now.
The shrill sound of your own voice even hurt your own ears as you cried for help, thrashing wildly in the grip of the man.
Your cries for help should have been chosen more carefully, seeing as when your two apparent saviors sped into the room, they opted to help the man pin you down even further.
“Damn, she’s being a feisty little thing-”
“Fatgum, let go of her neck! You’re gonna hurt her.”
“S-Should we really be doing this?”
And so you were left bound against the top of the desk, shrouded in a swarth of tentacles pinning your legs open and your hands above your head.
“Thank you, boys. Didn’t realize she would cause such a stir.”
So Fatgum was his name, or so it appeared to be an alias of some sorts.
“Fatgum, please-”
His smile was sickeningly sweet as he towered over you.
“Awe, no need for formalities with me, sugar plum. Just call me Tai, yeah?”
The two other men stood beside you, watching their boss closely as he dealt with you.
“Curiosity is gluttony. To see is to devour.”
Damn that cursed man for sending you down here in that goddamn elevator. This journey alone made it nearly impossible to keep this strength to see your mother again alive.
“Tai, please. I don’t-” His hearty laugh cut you off. “Begging already, sugar? By the fight you put up, I’d almost thought you didn’t want me anymore.”
“I don’t!” You protested, squirming in your slimy bonds before they tightened uncomfortably around you.
“Don’t yell at him like that. It's unbecoming of you.”
The raven-haired man snapped at you, looking down with a blush seared across his face and up to his ears.
“Relax, Tamaki. She just needs a reminder of who she belongs, ain’t that right? But, he’s right, I can't have you mouthing off like that, now can I?”
Slipping his black mask off his eyes, Tai fastened it around your mouth and head, loosely gagging you.
“Yeah, you belong to us!”
It was the redhead’s turn to pipe up before Tai shushed the pair of men.
“Now, now, I know you’re fond of our sweet little sidekick here, but this?”
He clapped a hand over still clothed pussy, rubbing gently.
“This here is mine; you boys can’t have this. But you’re more than welcome to stay and watch as I indulge myself.”
You whined into the gag, looking at him with teary eyes as he ripped a hole in your bottoms and panties.
“Hey, hey, hey. No need for tears, honeybun. You're safe with me, okay? I’m gonna take such good care of my little sweetheart, don’t you worry about a thing.”
His large fingers stroked over your clit slowly and tenderly, kissing your salty tears away as he shushed you with praise and loving words. Thumbing your clit, he pushed his middle fingers into you at a slow pace, grinning softly when you bit back a moan.
“Come on now, girl. We wanna hear how good I’m makin’ ya feel, ain’t that right, boys?”
Their collective groans of pleasure gave you all the response you needed; those sick fucks were getting off on you being harassed by your boss.
His finger sped up in pace, making you squeal once he curled his finger in an upwards motion. “Can’t wait to hear what you’ll sound like on my cock, sweet girl. Gonna sing us a nice song?”
Another finger slipped in as his free hand pawed at your tits, fondling and groping as he finger fucked you a new sense of vigor.
“As much as I don't want to hurt you, sweetheart, I’m just itching to get inside you and feel that pretty cunt around me. You understand, don’t you? I just can’t help myself when it comes to you.”
His lips continued to litter your skin in kisses to your face, licking at the tears that fell from your eyes when he added a third finger into your tight, wet hole.
“Mhm, you won’t mind if I have a taste, do ya?”
You could only whine in response.
“Of course you don’t, my good girl never says no to me.”
A hot mouth sealed itself around your clit as three fingers pumped in and out of you steadily, hitting all the right spots repeatedly. You squealed and shook in your binds, feeling your orgasm approaching hard and fast with the aid of his tongue lapping and suckling at you.
“Gonna cum for me, pretty girl?”
That was all you needed to feel yourself reach that blinding peak, sobbing and writhing as he rode out your ecstasy. His tongue continued to work at you far after you were finished, overestimating you without a care in the world. Your whines of protest fell on deaf ears as he just pulled your body closer to his face.
“Taste so good, sweetheart. I’ll stop when I’m finished with my meal, y’understand? This is my pussy, and I’ll do what I want with it.”
Leaving you twitching and sobbing, Tai finally pulled away and stood up, pulling his cock out and stroking it above you.
“Can’t wait to breed my pussy. Gonna make you my cute little cream puff.”
Both of his massive hands circled around you waist, pulling you flush against him as he sank all the way into your tight heat. The stretch of his girth was quite nearly unbearable as he pushed himself to the hilt inside of you, rubbing the small bulge in your belly with fondness while peering down at you.
“You feel so good, sweetheart. I knew you’d be so good for me. Yer takin’ me so well.”
Your eyes rolled into the back of your head as he slowly pulled out, leaving your legs twitching wildly when his thumb found its way back to your clit before he sank back in all the way. You could snark about how courteous it was of him to allow you to adjust, but the thread of consciousness was hard to grasp onto as he completely dominated your mind with numbing pleasure.
“You were made to take my cock, sweet thing. Let me give you a treat for bein’ so obedient for me.”
His praise went straight to your gut, as much as you hated to admit it, leaving you feeling pliable and soft under his demanding touch. Those hands around your waist pulled at your body, bringing you back and forth on his cock like you were a goddamn fleshlight.
“Ah, ” he grunted. “I don't think I can hold back much longer; you’ll let me be selfish, won’t ya?”
With that, all sense of tenderness and gentleness was thrown out the window as he picked you up from the desk, holding you against his chest as he jackhammered into you with an impossible pace of his hips.
“Shit! Squeezing me so tight, bein’ such a good little fucktoy for me.”
The sounds of skin slapping and the collective sounds of pleasure rang heavy in the room as he used and abused your throbbing pussy, feeling his grip on you tighten when he was reaching his own high.
“Fuck! I’m gonna cum, gonna stuff my pussy nice and full!”
The bulge on your stomach grew even more as he came, stuffing you to the hilt with his cum and his cock. Ropes of it leaked out of your hole, even as he stayed inside you, panting and kissing at your sweaty forehead.
“Gave ‘em a good show, didn’t we, sweetheart? Say thank you, boys.”
Their thanks were mumbled out as they too had exhausted themselves just from the display of your pleasure. Tamaki’s tentacles retracted themselves from you, allowing you to stretch and return feeling to your arms and legs.
“Here’s what’s gonna happen, sweetheart. We’re - hey, are you with me? I’m gonna clean you up and take you back home with me, okay? No more hero nonsense for you, ya hear me? All you need to do from now on is stay home and keep that pussy warm for me.”
Like hell you were going to stay for another damned second in this realm, not after being violated so horrifically.
“O-Okay.”
Play it cool, play it cool.
“Let me go to the bathroom, then.” You swallowed, hoping to fool the men. “A-And I’ll get my change of clothes and we can go home.”
You didn’t wait for a response, hobbling out of the office before making a break down the hall for the elevator. Their shouts echoed off the hallway walls as you ran with all your strength left back into the safety of the elevator, leaving them running after you before the door shut on them.
“Gluttony is a great fault; but we do not necessarily dislike a glutton. We only dislike the glutton when he becomes a gourmet-that is, we only dislike him when he not only wants the best for himself, but knows what is best for other people.”

Hey! I saw that you do headcanons as well? Sorry if I’m asking in the right place but I loved your post on Asra’s hurt!! Could you possibly do the “mc getting slapped by the m6” ask please? My angsty little heart needs foodddd
hiii!! i’m so glad you liked my post:)) don’t worry, i’ll do my best to not cry when i’m writing this although it probably won’t work
i just wanna say that under no circumstances is it okay to hurt your partner!! please don’t take this post the wrong way:)
the main 6 slapping mc
asra
• it probably started because of how much he keeps from you. you know it’s just because he doesn’t want to see you hurt or unhappy because of how much of your life you’ve lost to your premature death, but it’s still so infuriating. you’re not a child, and you tell him as much.
• as much as you love each other, arguments can get messy. you know so much about each other that it’s difficult not to go for the soft parts in an argument, and you just snap.
• they’re probably running his hands through his hair, tears of frustration and pent up feelings slipping down his cheeks and catching the light of the many candles around the shop, making them glister strangely beneath the low light.
• “asra, you’re being ridiculous. how in the arcana am i supposed to know about who i was if you won’t fucking tell me?” you shout at them, crystals and glass bottles clinking together on the shelves.
• asra breaks, finally raising his voice as well, telling you that you’re acting like a child. you feel a twisted feeling of satisfaction at his loss of control. at least they’re actually treating you like a person— but you’re still so frustrated.’why can’t he just see that you’re not a china doll, easily broken and delicately made?
•you’re screaming now, tears blurring your vision. all you see is red. “if i’m acting like such a child then why did you even bother bringing me back? you should have just fucking left me to rot beneath the lazaret if you won’t so much as—” you’re cut off with a sharp crack.
• asra’s stronger than they look, and he wasn’t thinking as he lashed out in anger and pain, so you probably stumble back into the shelves behind you, or onto the counter of the shop.
• you touch your hand to your hot cheek with a dull feeling of surprise. it’s as if everything is through a haze, your gaze flickering up to meet asra’s horrified one as you take a step back, a dry sob heaving through your chest as your knees give out and you sink to the floor.
• “mc, i’m so sorry, i can’t— i don’t— please. i’m so sorry,” he stumbles over his words as he crouches before you, giving you enough space that you could easily leave. you don’t, and he breathes out slowly as they reach towards you and gently, heartbreakingly softly, cups your face to turn it towards him. he inhales sharply as he takes in your bruised cheekbone, red already beginning to spread outwards in the shape of his hand, and he flinches to see that he’s hurt you, his beloved apprentice.
• he opens his arms slowly, hesitantly, and you sink into them, burying your face in his scarves and then drawing back slightly with a faint hiss as your cheek touches the fabric, and he lets out a sob as well, burying his face in your sweet-smelling hair. murmurs “i’m sorry, i’m so sorry,” into you over and over again, rocking you back and forth on the floor of the shop.
• he’ll hurt for weeks after, even after the bruise fades, he’ll simply refuse to touch you for days after the incident. whispers “but what if i hurt you,” his voice breaking at the mere thought of it, and you cradle him to you, stroking his cheek as he shakes.
nadia
• the argument was probably about her refusing to ask for help. she’s been alone for so long that the refusal simply comes naturally. she has to prove that she can be successful alone, that she can make something of herself without anyone.
• at first, you tell her gently that she can trust you, that you’re always here for her, and that she doesn’t have to do this alone— but she doesn’t want to hear it, telling you insistently that she doesn’t need any help.
• “your dark circles would say otherwise, nadi! you can’t keep going on like this!” you tell her, your voice strained as you lay a hand on her arm. you just want to help her, but she won’t listen to you. “i can do it myself,” she tells you coldly, pulling away from you and turning back to her work. “i don’t need your help. i never have.”
• you feel the hurt blossom in your chest, but you try to push it down as you close her books, smudging the ink on a document by mistake. “nadi, please.” you tell her, but she doesn’t even seem to hear you as she opens her books and sets her jaw, looking at the ruined document. you bite your lip in dismay and go to apologise, but she cuts in before you get the chance. “you ruin everything. you’re such a nuisance, can you not find anything better to do with your time than to bother me? i am the countess of vesuvia, and i don’t need your help.” she’s shouting by the end of her outburst, and you recoil, hurt now showing across your face— but it’s quickly replaced by anger.
• you laugh disbelievingly, your voice spiteful and pained as you speak. “you don’t need my help? well that’s certainly a different tune than the one you were singing when you came to me in the middle of the night, asking for my help. and even then i gave it unbegrudgingly. you’re so stubborn, nadia! you’re so ridiculously naïve that you can’t even see that not everybody’s against you. so your sisters acted like every older sibling the world over, and excluded you from a few games. you carry grudges as if the world’s out to get you and nobody seeks to help you. you’re such a child! why—” your screaming cuts off at the sharp crack.
• you cry out at the sudden flare of pain. nadia’s also a lot stronger than she looks— i mean, she’s a master sword-fighter. and so, you stumble backwards into the marble table opposite her desk, turning away from her to catch your breath, your figure shaking with quiet sobs. everything seems to fall away, and you hold your arms around yourself in a poor attempt to keep your paroxysms of sobs quiet.
• nadia is completely silent. the jarring force snapped her out of whatever tired grumpiness she had been wallowing in, and now she’s just looking at her hands, a look of absolute horror twisting her features as she takes in the hand, resting palm-down on her knees, that she used to— to— she can’t even think about it. she has betrayed your trust, used your relationship, built on a foundation of love and mutual respect, to hurt you. it’s as if she’s seeing the world through a haze of disbelief. she’s taken advantage of your love for her, she’s physically violated you, and the thought of that leaves her physically ill. hot tears drop steadily into her lap, as she turns her hands over, and her eyes widen even more, if possible, with horror. blood glisters thickly on her index finger, coating the closest section to her palm where a golden ring sits. the countess of vesuvia never takes her rings off during the day, and she’s snapped out of her daze by the quiet hiss that comes from where you stand.
•when the first tears stream down your face, you hiss at the sharp pain, touching your fingers gently to your face and wincing as they come into contact with… is that a wound? you stare at them as they come away a deep, garnetine red. your hair is sticking to the blood running down your face from the wound. you sob dryly as the pain sets in, and by the gods it stings. it seems that even the air twists into your opened skin, burning sharply. you’re so lost in the mist of disbelief you barely notice when nadia comes up behind you.
• “my love?” her voice comes, softly, and you stiffen as she lays a hand on your upper arm. she withdraws it quickly as her voice breaks. “please, mc. say anything. look at me, i beg of you.” you don’t say anything for a minute before you inhale softly and turn to her.
• something in nadia breaks. she lifts shaking fingers up to her mouth as your eyes meet hers, and she takes in what she’s done to you. she’s sliced your upper-cheek open from just short of the bridge of your nose to almost the edge of your face. and the cut is deep. bruising spreads around it, in the shape of her hand, and she lets out a sob before dropping to her knees, taking your hand in hers. “by the arcana, mc, i am so, so sorry— i don’t know— i can’t— please, my love, i am so sorry,” she presses her forehead to your hand before you start to cry, sinking to your knees as well and burying your face in your hands, your shoulders shaking. you hiss softly as you draw your hand away and it comes away a glistening, wine-dark red.
• you flinch away from her as she comes to envelop you in a hug. “don’t. please,” you say softly, pulling yourself away from her. you leave bloodstains on the floor. her eyes hold inexplicable sorrow and remorse in them, as she nods haltingly, her heart breaking as she realises— you’re… afraid of her. later, she’ll bury her head into her pillow and sob her heart out but for now, she needs you to know to not be afraid of her. she loves you, you know that— and you need to know she’ll never violate the trust you put in her again.
• “mc… please. i’m so, so inexplicably sorry for what i’ve done to you. i promise it will never happen again.” her voice is soft, and she speaks to you as if you’re a wounded deer she’s found in the palace gardens, her voice breaking as she lets you see that she’s approaching you, her arms in front of her as she holds them out softly when she’s quite close to you.
• you look at her, meet her eyes with yours, and slowly settle into her embrace as she lets out a quiet sob of relief, burying her head in your hair. you pull away with a quiet gasp of pain when her hair meets your wound, and she cups your face (your good side) softly, stroking your cheek with her thumb as you close your eyes and she moves closer to you, giving you the time to pull away before her lips meet your forehead and she kisses you there gently before pressing one just above your cut and pulling you back to her, minding your cheek. you cry softly into her chest, and she does so into your hair. the two of you stay there until the blood starts to dry on your cheek and she stands, helping you up.
• “i’m taking you to the infirmary, dearest one.” “but… nadia.” you gesture to the state you’re in with a raised eyebrow. blood stains your collar and had dripped down your cheek in steady rivulets— and now your entire cheek is coated in blood. the cut itself is deep and thorough, splitting the skin so that the flesh beneath is easily visible, and the black, blue, and red flesh around your cut in the shape of nadia’s hand is enough that there is no room to doubt how your injury happened. “i’m your partner. there’s nobody else that would have done this— your entire court will know.” you look at her gently. “i can hide this.”
• and yet again, nadia’s heart is absolutely crushed. broken. shattered. “my heart, you should not have to hide what i have done. we’re going to the infirmary.”
• the entire way there, nadia weathers the stares and whispers with, for once, a bent head. you tighten your fingers around her hand— you know how important the favour of the court is. when you finally arrive, and you have to explain, haltingly, how you were injured, nadia gets a few looks of unbridled disgust as your injuries are treated. you squeeze her hand every now and again, and she looks at you gratefully. her eyes darken as you bite your lip roughly when the antiseptic meets it, your eyes watering as she strokes your hand, never taking her eyes away from you.
• afterwards, will absolutely doubt herself as a leader and a partner. no matter if you forgive her, no matter that the bruise fades and the wound heals, she’ll still always linger on your scar when she’s kissing your face, she’ll still murmur “i’m sorry, i’m so sorry, darling,” into your hair for months after.
• if anyone is so much as even vaguely disdainful towards you with respects to your scar, you’ll literally have to talk her down from having them thrown out/arrested. you forgive her, and she loves you with all of her— but when dark feelings surface now there’s absolutely nothing you can do that will even get a shadow of a rise out of her. is just calm and collected. never so much as raises her voice at you.
• will 100% look at you as you sleep and hate herself for harming you in any way.
hope you enjoyed the angst fest!! these were so long— but i’ll do the next four periodically:)

All The Good Dreams
A/n this one is based on a request from @ateliefloresdaprimavera who requested a fic where General Kirigan has been dreaming of the reader for as long as he can remember and that’s one of his few reasons to smile and the reader has been having the same kinds of dreams about him and when they meet they just know.
This one is being written in third person bc it’s the only way I can see this fic being done but I’m a little insecure about writing in third person so be gentle lol
Also a little personal update I’ve been working on my original novel and it’s coming together y’all!!
--
ALEKSANDER.
The morning sunlight seems to only come to take her from him, peaking through the curtains and stirring him awake and away from his dreams. Aleksander keeps his eyes closed for a moment longer, trying to will her features to remain in his mind. She had looked more angelic in last night’s dream, dressed in all white and watching him with an adoration he doubted real life could duplicate.
The girl has haunted his dreams like a ghost of promise since before he began to change the world. Since before anything in his life was solidified. He lets out a sigh, something similar to a smile playing at his lips. Thinking of her would not bring her to him, if he could manifest her, she’d be by his side right now. He has things to do, duties and obligations that will bring his final goal closer. Each day is a step closer to victory, and each night brings the promise of dreams. The promise of her.
--
Y/N.
“Y/n.” The voice is gentle and distant. “Y/n,” a little harsher. “Wake up, you’ll be late.”
Fighting against grogginess, y/n wakes up, eyes squinting open. “What time is it, Danna?”
“Late.” Danna’s reply is curt as she steps away from y/n’s cot. “I thought you were awake already and then I came in to look for my boots and you were still asleep with that ridiculously peaceful look.” Danna paces around the room. “You must have been dreaming of your prince again?”
Y/n feels her skin warm. “He’s not a prince!” It’s a weak defense. “I regret telling you that almost every time I dream I see the same man.”
Danna drops down, grabbing her worn boots and pulling them on quickly. “You’re making me believe in soulmates, l/n.”
Y/n rolls her eyes, sitting up and placing her feet on the ground at her own leisure. “It’s nothing like that--I’m not even sure he exists.”
Lacing her shoes, Danna narrows her eyes at y/n. “Sure.” Y/n opens her mouth to protest, but Danna beats her to it, “If you need to argue with me, do it while getting dressed, we can’t be late today--General Kirigan’s visiting this camp for the first time and I doubt he’d appreciate being interrupted by a non-Grisha medic.”
At that, y/n wrinkles her nose, but she stands anyway. “Ugh...Grisha.” She walks towards her uniform. “They can get away with anything and I hear Kirigan’s the worst of all of them because he’s in the same order as the Black Heretic that began all of this.” Y/n pauses, crossing her arms. “And it’s ridiculous that the army even needs non-Grisha medics. Healers exist and they should not be primarily reserved for other Grisha who rarely get injured, especially to the extent that the rest of us do.”
“I know, y/n, but don’t speak like that until the General is gone.” Danna draws her lips into a thin line. “And hurry up before you get us both in trouble.”
Y/n lets out a sigh. “Go ahead without me, I’ll catch up.”
Danna eyes her friend wearily. “Alright, worse comes to worse I’ll try to cover for you.”
“You won’t need to.” Y/n isn’t sure she believes herself. “I’ll be there.”
Danna pulls on her second boot, raising an eyebrow. “I don’t really believe you.” She stands easily. “But knowing you, you’ll talk yourself out of any trouble the way you always do.”
“I do not always talk myself out of trouble.”
Turning to leave, Danna pauses, “Whatever you need to tell yourself.”
Y/n rolls her eyes. If she had more time to argue with Danna she would take it. But she doesn’t. She’s quick to get dressed, thoughts of the mysterious stranger from her dreams keeping her company. Last night he seemed more tired than normal, a crease between his dark eyebrows as he sat by her side. A part of her she keeps buried worries about him. It’s ridiculous, to concern yourself over a figment of comfort your mind created for you.
By the time y/n’s changed, she knows she doesn’t have much time to get to her station. She’s rushing out of her tent, one boot still untied. The medic bag she slings over her shoulder swings as she jogs towards the medical tent. Today the camp is hectic, everyone desiring to appear efficient and reliable for General Kirigan. It’s all ridiculous to Y/n. General Kirigan will never be impressed by them. If he’s revered even among Grisha, Y/n can’t imagine the superiority complex that man must possess.
Her eyes scan the soldiers and workers she knows so well, each of them behaving so differently than normal. There is no friendly chatter this morning, no casual banter. There is only the business of war.
Y/n watches the people she knows, so focused on their nerves that she barely registers the person she crashes into. “Sorry!” The apology leaves Y/n on instinct.  Her bag falls off her shoulder, gauze and antiseptic falling onto the ground on impact. Y/n bends down instantly, beginning to pick up her supplies. She mentally curses herself for being so easily distracted and not properly shutting her bag this morning. “Everything’s so hectic today and I was running late and I just--I have no idea how I didn’t see you.” She drops her supplies back into her bag. “I guess it’s a good thing they keep me off the battlefield and in the medical tents.”
Reaching for the last of her supplies, Y/n’s eyes land on the shoes of the person she just crashed into. They’re leather. The fine kind of leather meant for marble halls, not trekking through the unknown. Y/n’s mouth goes dry as the possibility of the graveness of her mistake sets in her mind. She exhales slowly, daring to look upwards as she closes her bag.
When her eyes meet those of the stranger, she is left with no choice but to gape. She’s not staring because she’s now at the mercy of General Kirigan. She’s not staring because nothing could have prepared her for his beauty. She’s staring because she knows that face. She knows those sharp features and steady eyes.
His lips are slightly parted. Y/n is struck with the odd thought that perhaps he too has words wedged into his throat.
“It’s you.” The whisper leaves her faintly.
The words seem to unfreeze Kirigan, his expression moving from shocked to stoic. “Excuse me?”
Awkward regret floods through Y/n. She drops her head downwards, desperate to escape the power of his gaze. “General Kirigan.” She uses her words as a way to dismiss the emotions her chest seems to be brimming with as she stands. He’s not the man from her dreams. That’s impossible. “I apologize for my inappropriate behavior an--”
“No, no,” he shakes his head once. Y/n bites her tongue at his dismissal. “You said ‘it’s you.’”
Embarrassment knots her stomach. “I just hadn’t realized that I ran into you, General. I--I knew you were coming today, but I wasn’t expecting to see you much less like this.”
Kirigan’s eyes seem to be nothing more than inviting pools of kindling emotion. So familiar yet so distinct. He can’t be the man from her dreams. The man from her dreams must be nothing more than a composition of traits she finds generally attractive. General Kirigan just happens to possess those features. That explanation is the only thing that keeps Y/n’s feet rooted to the ground, but the longer she looks at him the more that explanation loses its strength. There’s just something so knowing behind his expression, so specific to the face that she’s only seen while asleep.
Tearing his gaze away to scan the area, Kirigan reaches forward, placing a hand on Y/n’s arm. The touch leaves Y/n warmer than it should. Maybe that’s why she lets him lead her forward, ducking into an empty medical tent. She keeps hold of her bag as he turns, his eyes full of something dark and unknown. But not angry, Y/n notes, no, not angry. The look is too peaceful for rage, perhaps even hopeful.
“When you looked at me…” He exhales, voice low and sacred, “You said ‘it’s you’.” Y/n can only blink, still mesmerized by something so foreign and familiar all at once. “Do you know me?”
In his urgency, Kirigan’s hold on Y/n’s arm becomes more assured. Something in Y/n wants to pry herself free in order to prove to herself that she’s capable of resisting his drawl. But his touch is not to trap her, the look in his eyes tells her that. His touch is pleading--desperate and hopeful.
“Everyone knows you,” when Y/n finally finds her voice, she is not convinced it is her own.
The corners of Kirigan’s mouth fall downwards, something in him threatening to deflate. “I meant--have you seen me before?” The question is not one Y/n is too willing to answer. How could she tell this strange man, this general she was convinced she’d dislike on some fundamental level while never speaking to him, that she knows him? She knows him like she knows her own beginning. “Because I’ve seen you.”
Y/n can’t help the way her eyes widen. This doesn’t mean anything, she warns herself, he could have seen her walking. “I didn’t see you, that--that’s why I ran into you--”
“No, you’re avoiding the question.” Her face is warmer than it was when Danna was teasing her this morning. It’s warmer than it’s ever been. “Because you’ve experienced it as well.”
The swelling in her chest is overwhelming. “Experienced what?”
Kirigan eyes the entrance to the tent once more, confirming that no one is approaching. “All of the good dreams,” he exhales, “They have been of you.”
Y/n can’t help the way everything in her melts. She’s not insane. She’s not projecting something dangerous onto the Shadow Summoner. “I see you in my dreams always.”
Slowly, he releases his grip on her arm. Watching her like she might be a mirage, Kirigan raises his hand, brushing his knuckles along Y/n’s cheek. She lets him, holding her breath until his hand falls back to his side. A part of Kirigan expected the girl to be a trick of the light, something that his touch would reveal to be a fallacy. But she remains true, watching him with eyes the size of saucers.
“How long I’ve been waiting for you, you’ll never know.” His voice is as heavy as a lament.
Y/n feels her back straighten slightly on instinct, desperate to pass whatever scrutiny is being passed over her. “How--how does this happen? How do two strangers dream of each other for so long and...”
Something knowing colors his smile a shade of ambitious green. “What is your name?”
“Y/n.”
Kirigan’s minds flit through lifetimes worth of faint memories. The girl laughing, the girl teary eyed, the girl embodying all the stars he’ll never have, the girl representing all he needs. Y/n. There’s finally a name to her.
“Y/n,” the name is a gift. Kirigan pulls a ring from his fingers before grabbing Y/n’s arm. Too lost in a strange euphoria, she lets him pull her arm forward before pressing his ring into her skin. Her brow furrows as he begins to guide the metal down her skin. That slight confusion quickly turns to total shock as a thread of light begins to spindle down her skin, following the path he’s creating with the ring. “You and I are going to change the world.”
