One thing about canto VI is like. I see so many people predicting it'll be about Fighting Evil Wife or Breaking Codependent Toxic Relationship and I just kinda think that would suck? If the major theme isn't grief AND love and the way both are seen as like Kinda Weird/inappropriate in the setting of the city. Then I'll be very sad.
#bell.txt#not putting it in the tag i dont wanna spam but yes limbus posting yes girls will be thinking about mortal regret#LIKE. LIKE. remember the discourse on twt about how like it was bad writing that yi sang didnt mourn dongbaek etc#and like that was the thing right. thsts not a thing you do in the city. that was part of why roland (who takes lots after wh's themes)#was so exceptional. that is the whole thing about the sickness of the city#to say it in comedia literary criticism terms: sins are split between wrongly-directed love and excess of love with sloth (lack of love)#being an outlier. i think heatho and generally og wh is about excess of love and not wrongly-directed love. it is the thing that lasts#all the way to the other side. it is the shared coffin and meeting again in the next life#i think itd be AWFULLY disappointing to get some boring boring 'they make each other worse' take. being APART due to societal pressures#makes them worse and horribly lonely. death makes them worse baby. so in my mind thats it#we get to see cathy die or still be unreachable in some way and then in very roland style we get furioso mode#and then the ending is about recognizing the love that has in fact been there all along and carrying it with u. and hoping to reunite some#where some other time. NO more slander of that awful girl. YES to the comfort of the memories.#me typing over my foscolo notes like i can surely post about heathcliff really fast and not write a novel in the tags (unaware)#i have more thoughts about this in regards to ruina with xiao and some stuff from leviathan but in the meantime. listen to my ramblings boy#ALSO. considering that implication. he feels for her what queequeg feels for ishy. ARGHH. RIPPING MY HAIR OFF#ok actually its been enough hours to not spam ppl I'll tag it now for blog org. i should maybe have a tag for posting specifically#limbus company

SUUUPER long ask sorry.
What I find so fascinating is that, everyone, whether dante or her family, display her as this “prideful,” and having this “self importance,” that puts her above everyone. But, every memory we get of her is undoubtedly soft or full of, usually, love. You could say this is because of her natural softness with Quixote, but, she’s shown to be this way with Bari, too! She’s shown to pity the bear and even Dante later on. Faust informs Dante her level of agression then was because of Cassetti’s taboo and not a general read of her character. Even in Barber’s and Priest’s narration, she does enforce them, yes, but it’s always never something “prideful,” whispering at Priest he missed a line, and apparently watching over Barber, which leans into OUR Don’s and Sancho’s habit of acting like she.. isn’t apart of the world. (Giving her Gubo makes so much sense, on several levels, but especially Dongbaek accusing Gubo of acting like they aren’t one of them. Dongrang’s “you don’t need to keep acting like a guest.”) The sinners affirming she never, ever talks about herself, much rather sharing and wanting to hear OTHER’S stories. She’s always felt distant from the sinners, even more so than those “emotionally closed off,” like Outis, and that’s because she doesn’t let anyone in. And it seems she’s always been that way. I mean, she was willing to completely erase who she was in efforts to live someone else’s story. Even meta wise— she isn’t even the protagonist! She’s the person who watches the hijinks occur. She does not own this identity or story, she’s manually removed all her agency and autonomy. Something she ultimately did because of loathe of herself and love of someone else. Dante doesn’t want Don to face herself because it means they’d have to face her. Despite, how frail she seems, how even warm I’d say Vergilius sounds making the deal with her, her talk about “watching over Hong Lu,” with the implication that to just be there and try, and how that’s being taken from her, even now, because no one can seem to accept her, but Quixote. She can’t even accept herself. She’s someone who longed for family and love, but the entire world seems sure on seeing her as something prideful, evil, terrifying— and even as a human she was a one dimensional annoyance at worst. I wonder if she truly loved her family, the sinners, but was still unable to convey that? Did they read her wrong? Was she always prideful and distant? Or was she scared of not being loved? Is she truly that terrifying or has she learned to harden herself up to keep things in order for her helpless master? Has she taken up the burden of being the “bad guy,” to ensure he gets all he wants on a silver platter? The dichotomy of love in their relationship and what is ultimately terrifying, a lack of autonomy to even live her own life, be his ideal instead, simply on pretense he’s the only person to ever love her. Someone she cannot deny, quite literally, all for him.
THANK YOU FOR LONG ASK, I'm glad to see people to be that passionate about Don!
And I like the idea of her being less prideful but rather distant, which creates a feeling of arrogance. And I agree that most of her memories are full of love, just I think all of her love reserved to Don Quixote.
About Bari, she seems rather suspicious about her and flashbacks and agrees to her company only because of Don Quixote. You could argue using last Sanson play, but we still don't have a confirmation about who we're spoken here yet.
About Bear...I don't think it was piety, more like pragmatism.
About Dante... yeah, she looked at them as they were pietful it makes me wonder why...
About Cassati...well, . She's honoring this taboo, but this taboo is rooted in hierarchy in which she is much higher than Cassati, and if she believes in importance of taboo, she should believe in the importance of her status. We can compare it's to Don Quixote, who is letting Sancho ignore lines between their statuses while she calls Cassatti all insults possible.
And when I made point about her correcting Barber and Priest, it was not about pride, but more about their discomfort around her.
But I adore the idea of Sancho being an observer and the idea that she does not fit in and that she's not even trying. I thought a lot about Gubo's identity as a traitor in this story and how it paints Don, but him being never "one of them" now makes a lot of sense.
And with that, I think Sancho's problem is not even with thinking that everyone is unimportant. It's more like there is no one as important as Don Quixote, and that includes herself.
In a way, Don Quixote made a great thing becoming her family, but at the same time, he became the center of life, even if by accident.
Maybe she became a "bad guy" to make sure his dream will happen. But it still centering one person and his happiness while ignoring pleas of others. Sancho may not be purposely cruel, but she was ruthless archiving whatever Don Quixote wanted.
And that's why I think that her life as "Don" gave her a new perspective. Or understanding. About Don Quxote and most important about herself. She had a chance to have a life that wasn't centered around one person(she just didn't remember it was), learn other kinds of joy, and create relationships.
It's interesting that Dulcinea said that Sancho's eyes once were bright and starry until cold disinterest settled in them. And that means that from the beginning, there was something in her that could be Don Quixote.

Hello Limbus Gamers
Why did I title this post that.
Anyway, yeah, it's that time again. I'm gonna analyze the RR4 trailer. Some of you may be asking why, but. You'll see.
Oh boy you'll see.
Starting off, we get a very brief animation of the nodes of the new Railway. And by brief, I do mean, this shit speeds past you like instantly.
Tumblr media
They even make sure to not show the whole thing all at once to make it harder to count. I did count though. There are thirteen of these nodes in this animation. This might be subject to change, but we shall see.
Tumblr media
Then we get the title card. We're back to single word Railway names from before RR3, and in the background we get to see some silhouettes. We're gonna learn what they are during the trailer itself, but you can already tell they're the abnos from the Battle Pass E.G.O - Dreaming Electric Sheep, The King in Binds, and Portrait of a Certain Day.
We also see silhouettes of some Sinners, and while it's hard to make out with the text in the way, I'm pretty sure there's N Corp Don, N Corp Faust, and BL Yi Sang in there.
Tumblr media
Now THIS is interesting - a new Railway gimmick! Not just one gimmick though, but after throwing the screenshot into Google Translate, it turns out we might be dealing with two!
First, the one that doesn't need translating to figure out - the Backup gimmick. I believe it's shown a bit clearer in the next scene, so I won't be speculating on it too much yet, but from my guess it's a replacement for a similar mechanic in RR3, where you could throw another team of Sinners at an Abnormality after your initial team of 6 died to finish the Abno off from where you left it at.
That's not the most interesting part though, this is.
Tumblr media
Our Sinners are also going to be recieving individual buffs in this Railway, potentially based on selection order, considering PM has been pushing more and more for the selection order to matter with the recent addition to the E.G.O Gifts.
If I'm correct and the buffs are based on selection order instead of being completely random, we can see the buffs are as follows:
Selection 1 - Identity Level +2
Selection 2 - SP Gain Efficiency +3
Selection 3 - too blurry for google to translate
Selection 4 - Defense Level +2
Selection 5 - Max Speed +2 (the 5 came from the semi-transparent level 45 number lmao)
Selection 6 - too blurry for google to translate
Selection 7 - Final Power +1
Selection 8 - Damage taken -10%
Selection 9 - this one i'm not too sure on but it might be Aggro +5 (the 45 came from the semi-transparent level 45 number lmao)
Selection 10 - scene cuts away too quickly to read it
In addition to that, some IDs (primarily the Backup selections but also for some reason Faust) get a head start of +10 SP when they join the fight, which is a very nice way to help off-set the issue of having to gain sanity in harder fights to even attempt winning clashes.
Tumblr media
Next scene shows us what seems to be the Backup mechanic. It's an admittedly very brief shot that barely shows us anything of how it works, but considering everyone's low sanity and Ishmael's stagger, I'm guessing what happened is two units died and the backup units were put in there in their stead.
An interesting gimmick that honestly feels more lore-accurate than the current system LMAO.
Tumblr media
Next up, we get our excerpts from the new Abno Logs. This one, based on the background, is for Portrait of a Certain Day. It's a bit hard to tell who wrote this Log based on the English translation, but it does give an interesting insight onto the Abnormality and by extention its E.G.O, Bygone Days.
Something about taking advantage of deaths through parading mementos of the dead in connection to Yi Sang and Gregor, huh... Gregor is the one who gave Aya's mask to Yuri as a memento, and then proceeded to keep that mask as a memento of Yuri. On the other hand, while Yi Sang personally didn't keep mementos of the League around, both Dongbaek and Dongrang had a strong emotional attachment to the last remaining picture of the League all together. There's something there I think.
Tumblr media
Then we get to see the excerpt from Dreaming Electric Sheep's Abno Log. Again, not very clear who's writing this from the English translation. And this is a very interesting excerpt too! This is the clearest connection we get between the Abno and the 'Dreaming' part of its name! I feel like I'd need to see the whole Log to get a better idea of what is being conveyed here, but it is good to see we're getting to see some new angles on the Abno.
Tumblr media
BIG SHEEP! It's notable that it's attacking Faust.
Tumblr media
And there's Portrait, in all its low bitrate glory! Note that it's attacking Yi Sang.
What follows is two more shots, one of each of the Abnos, and then...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It might hard to see in that glorious 240p low bitrate, but yes. That is, in fact, N Corp Don and N Corp Faust, covered in a purple glow, attacking the Sinners.
And then, the bombshell.
Tumblr media
Guys.
Guys.
These are Envy Peccatula.
Envy Peccatula are doppelgangers.
DO YOU REALIZE HOW HUGE THIS IS FOR SIN ANALYSIS??? Envy is one of those sins we got barely anything on due to its lack of Peccatula, and yet here we are, RR4 gave us a fucking blessing.
Anyway, back to talking about the actual fights themselves, I believe we're going to be dealing with faction-themed Envy Peccatula stages. The one we see in the trailer is N Corp, complete with a relevant background, and in the in the title card we can see Blade Lineage Yi Sang, implying we could get a BL-themed node as well. Notably, these are both factions that have enough IDs to form a full team.
The only other full team ID factions we have are W Corp and Liu Association, so these are also contenders for Envy Peccatula nodes. Seven Association is also possible, as they are only missing one ID from being a full six ID team. We could also potentially get a fraud Pequod Trio that's made up of the Pequod IDs, which would be really funny, but I'm not sure how likely that is.
Back to the trailer itself.
Tumblr media
We finally get the Abno Log excerpt for The King in Binds, and it's very evocative in my opinion. The poetic language makes me think that Yi Sang is the one writing this Log.
This seems like an excerpt that's being used to describe a game mechanic - The King in Binds might have a mechanic where he tears himself free from his throne if certain conditions are met. Very interesting considering what we know about the abno.
Tumblr media
What follows is some extremely quick and hard to see snippits of The King in Binds attacking Yi Sang. Yes, this is the best frame I could get from it.
Aaaand that's about it!
All in all, extremely excited about the potential Envy lore and fighting against out own units, and I guess the abnos are there too.

Canto IV was really good
Project Moon does a cool thing that I really like with their stories, which in theory isn't really anything special, but I see so few stories do this that it really does single Project Moon out in my mind.
Each Project Moon game is in a dialogue with itself, having a discussion about politics and philosophy and society in general. They universally present the status quo as Not Great which is... evident for anyone living in the real world, but importantly to me, they do not present any proper answers to this.
This isn't to say that Project Moon stories are fence sitting nonsense that call for the importance of meeting in the middle, that's your own decision on whether you think that's worthwhile. And Project Moon DOES express opinions in the world they have created, so they're not cowards in that sense either. It's pretty clear, at least to me, that they believe things in our world do have to change, that the vision of capitalism that exists in the City is horrendous, and that we in the real world are on a clear trajectory toward the world of the City if action is not taken.
However, the way they frame the two opposing sides of each argument they present is important. And key to that framing is that in every game you play antisocial, morally dubious murderers. This is a constant. The people you're fighting aren't the good guys, but hey, neither are you.
In Ruina, when it comes down to the final confrontation with the Reverberation Ensemble, you are presented with two opposing ideals. Carmen and the Ensemble would love nothing more than to see the world torn down in its entirety, built back up in their own imagining of an ideal society. The Librarians, on the other hand, are there to fight against that notion, that the world they have as it is can be changed.
And while I definitely fall on the side of "maybe there's hope to be had in this dying, hellish apocalypse" I do GET where the Ensemble is coming from. I GET what Carmen's trying to do. It's a naive and childish attempt at creating a better world from the ashes of the old, an idea whose inevitable result is tyranny, but to someone who's already experiencing tyranny, tyranny but this time you're on top seems appealing. And I also understand that, for the Librarians, even if the ultimate goal here is to create a better society without that sort of tyranny, well you're kind of murdering people to achieve that.
And I think all this plays into why I enjoyed Canto IV so much. First off, the main conflict in Canto IV isn't between Limbus Company and another group, it's the conflict between K Corp and the Technology Liberation Alliance, which can be further distilled down to the conflict between Dongrang and Dongbaek.
In the case of K Corp, they're a bunch of utilitarians, people who say that even torture is acceptable if it leads to lives saved. And they quite literally do this, torturing the Tearful Thing in literally every possible way, just to produce the tears needed for regeneration ampules, forcing it to cry for the sake of others. Dongbaek doesn't even fully refute that this might be useful, but she does assert that if you're going to go to these lengths, there better be a foreseeable end to it, you better be curing EVERYONE.
And then we have the TLA, a bunch of anprims who aren't exactly wrong in the assertion that the way technology is used within the City causes immeasurable harm, but do come to the wrong conclusion that ALL tech needs to be incinerated. And, for them to come against K Corp specifically is significant, because sure, K Corp literally tortures people to produce their ampules, but the results are tangible. Lives are, in fact, saved, even if we discount the K Corp Security that will cut their own limbs off just to get healed.
And where Canto IV manages to stop saying "both sides bad" is in bringing Limbus Company back into the equation. A third party, who doesn't adhere to the ideals of either side.
Does Limbus Company have perfect answers to resolve this conflict? No, you're still a bunch of murderers. But they do present a third perspective, that instead of looking only at total harm done and coming to the conclusion that torture is acceptable, and instead of looking at all the injustices caused and coming to the conclusion that the entire world needs to be reset, through exploring the fathoms of Yi Sang's EGO, we can come to consider the possibility of caring for the individual. That yes, this world is fucked up and living in it can itself be considered a crime against humanity, but that doesn't mean you can't help someone in a way that doesn't hurt someone else. Yi Sang went from being horribly depressed with nothing in this world, someone who desperately wanted to die and couldn't even be afforded that mercy, to someone who finally smiled. The world is still fucked up, and we don't really have a solution to that, but we at least made it a little bit brighter for one person, and in the future, we can keep doing that.
And also? Canto IV introduced Alfonso so really it's just the best chapter.

by chance . do you really like limbus company
Project moon has ruined me. Everywhere I go, I hear coin tosses and dice rolls. It can’t be stopped. I often snap my fingers to calm myself, I go shopping and I find a piano named Roland. I pass through a library and immediately think about Ruina. I can’t go to an office without thinking about full-stop office, I finally get to work and they installed Kali linux on every single computer and I can’t stop myself saying “HAHA MANAGER ESQUIRE, THIS IS THIS !” I look for clothes to have a new (todays) look, but hold on- is this made of nuovo fabric- oh no... I can’t greet people nowadays. Hello? Goodbye. I go to Mcdonalds (local HamHamPangPang) to wellcheer myself up, but while browsing through my phone watching Fullmetal Alchemist, they show the tree of life! And I can’t even play Persona without going into mementos and thinking oh this areas are based off the qliphoth tree. The entire Final Fantasy franchise is ruined for me, Sephiroth? One winged Angela?? Yesterday I was playing “im on observation duty”, and you have to watch out for Anomalies. Don’t they mean Abnormalities??? I can’t learn(2) any language because when it comes to numbers, there will always be a point where I will be reminded of an association or a sinner, I can’t enjoy nature without thinking about Dongbaek’s EGO, these flowers(hana) sure are nice, but wait is that a Hornet? Animals are banned, especially the ones that start with R. I can’t play other gachas besides limbus, I went to play Honkai and I saw there was a Kafka banner, so I logged off and went to Arknights, waiting as my assistant was.. you guessed it, Kafka, so I made the daring decision to go to the base and OH MY AYIN THEY HAVE A CONTROL DEPARTMENT, so I quickly went to change my agents, I mean operators and there he was, Mr Nothing. The phrase Nothing there triggers me like a lobotomized Agent so I shut down my phone. I went to play Devil May Cry, but couldn’t get past the introduction. I can’t see legs without thinking of blue star. I can’t write without thinking wow I’m making a key page! I can’t read to-do lists, but I also can’t read in general. I can’t think about myself because that would make me an egoist. I also can’t watch blue lock now that I think about it.. Colors are banned, but also black and white because that would be similar to T corp. so I have to just close both eyes (Angela reference?), and embrace the fear, and break the cycle. I can’t watch Ishmael porn anymore because if something is CENSORED I have a panic attack, cardiac arrest? More like Fervent Beats. I must E-endure… MY OWN BRAIN PRODUCES ENKEPHALIN ghghgh gigigig I only wanted peace, but after listening to the voices this City better Brace Up, for today a star shall rise

Note
have you ever considered how both Dongbaek and Heathcliff are named after flowers (camellias and heathers respectively) and they appear all around them
Wait hold on a second.
I knew about Dongbaek, I haven't read her book yet but the flower theme is very present in Limbus.
Tumblr media
(quoting the wiki)
But english is not my first language so I never thought HEATHCLIFF'S NAME WAS ALSO AFTER A FLOWER
Tumblr media
Thank you for this fact, anon, now I understand why so many fanarts of him had these flowers (or had him wearing Alriune's EGO). I must admit that at first I thought he was always surronded by Lavender flowers because of the color.
Tumblr media
(And now here it comes my Yi Sang obsession moment™, good lord this man sure loves flower people)

So about this Canto V... (Spoilers)
I rather say it straight, my review is quite negative, so if you loved Canto V, you should ignore this. I don't like to put bad vibes in the main tag, but I wanted to give my opinion on this Canto.
Tumblr media
This Canto was... Disappointing. I love Ishmael, I love Moby Dick, I truly do, and I had high expectations. Especially because, I know Project Moon is good at making us feel things, so I was confident with this Canto. I was confident it would be as good as the last one. But... There are things.
I'm not going to talk much about the CG or character designs. I will be honest, the new characters designs were really mid, Queequeg and Ahab were the two to stand out, and yet, even so, I did not saw them very great. Yet god knows I love evil old women and butch she/her himbo. I feel sad that Nai_Ga had to, well, literally carry the entire visuals of the Canto, did every background, every character, every CG. I hope he's paid tripple for his work. But also it felt like rushed, naturally, when you're the only artist working on a whole game's chapter, there's high chances that it will look low quality. But at the same time, since VellMori left the crew, I can't say much. I really, really hope they can find new artists. I love your art style, Nai_Ga, but dear god we need to discuss how you draw muscled arms.
Tumblr media
ANYWAY, now into the real subject; what really disappointed me in this chapter. The feels.
I AM going to compare it a lot to Canto IV, naturally. It was the previous Canto, so it's hard to not compare them, especially with how good Canto IV was. It's like eating a very dull and mid dessert after an absolute banger of a feast.
The characters were not attaching. At all.
Let's talk about Ahab first, the main antagonist. She's... Well, a very fucked up old lady. She's senile and obsessed by her revenge. Which, well, makes sense! But it gives no sympathy whatsoever to the character. Comparing to Dongrang, the antagonist of the previous Canto, she was not a grey antagonist. She was all black. All evil. Which is BAD when Project Moon has been serving us really morally grey characters before. She's obssessed, she's ready to throw her crewmates to death for her own desires, she just wants to kill that Damned Whale. And this was so, so bad when at the end, Ishmael spares Ahab. WHY would you spare this absolutely madlad. Sure, Ishmael doesn't want to be like her, but Ahab had absolutely no reason to be left alive. She will just be more evil, AND join the evil people gang to be even MORE evil. That's fucked up. Yes, Kromer was also some unhinged feral woman, but she fought for something and was not just evil, but smart. She was scary BECAUSE she was smart. Ahab, at first she was shown as charismatic, that she can manipulate... But she quickly, way too quickly fell into "just some senile old woman." Starbuck and Queequeg followed her because she was the reason they were still alive, she was their lighthouse. But at the end of the dungeon, even after she shouted with absolutely no shame that she's ready to kill her crew, after Queequeg discovered with horrors that she sacrified everyone to make her way to the heart, she... Still joins Ahab? Without, even a second thought? Queequeg, you KNEW Ahab had not a single care for you, that she was ready to use your body for the steps that would lead her to her ambition. WHY, you followed her, and DIED for her till the end.
And Queequeg is my next point. She could, she SHOULD have been a character I enjoy a lot, but instead I felt neutral about her. A character we can associate to her in the previous Canto is Dongbaek. And now, we get a hint; all the Pequod crew was introducted way too late. They got introduced at the start of the Dungeon, and all died at the end of the Dungeon. Compared to Kromer, to Dongrang and Dongbaek who were introduced way before. We saw the memories of Sinclair and Yi Sang with them, we saw the interactions, the good moments, and that's how we got attached to them. Unfortunately, for the Pequod's crew, from the start of Canto V to the start of the Dungeon, we got absolutely nothing. Just their names mentioned. We should have got flashbacks. We barely saw Ishmael interact with Pip or Starbuck, and even her interactions with Queequeg, they were sure, adorable and heartwarming, but I could not feel the attachment between them that much as I was able to feel it between Yi Sang and Dongbaek. Dongbaek gave us an amazing boss fight, despite being not the final boss (Queequeg had a boss fight too, but! Too bad! It was just some random looking fight.), she gave us amazing memories of her and Yi Sang, and she died a heartbreaking death.
Tumblr media
Queequeg, not only you had to guess that she was dead because at no moment it was showed, but all she got is around five lines of dialogues, Ishmael's crying sprite, "oh no!, anyway. that whale's not going to die alone."
Tumblr media
Then we got Pip, Starbuck, and Stubb. Who? They appeared, they had a bit of dialogues, then they disappeared. Reduced to atoms.
This is really sad, because Project Moon always had a talent to make us attached to characters, then once they were growing into our hearts, kill them. I mostly think about Xiao, about Yan, we saw those characters evolve throught the story of Library of Ruina, we followed them, we saw their struggles, we saw their feelings, we fought them, the music playing behind broke our hearts, and we killed them. It was painful, it was hard, and even after they're gone, we will still think about them. We will read their books and discover even more. The promise Xiao and Lowell made that she broke after his death, how Yan had been chosen as a messenger just after he tried to take his own life away.
Queequeg, Ahab, and the rest of the Pequod's Crew are forgettable. And this is AWFUL for a Project Moon game.
And Ishmael's evolution... The conclusion felt, quite random. A few time I felt bad for her during the Canto, and it was good! But at the end, it felt rushed. She dropped a "my friends are Limbus Company now" randomly. She did not even interacted with anyone during the Dungeon. All the Sinners were just looking from far away like "go white girl go". She could have teamed up with them, she could have created bounds with them. All we got is Heathcliff saving her to make the Ishheath fans scream because Ishmael is a dark skinned himbo magnet.
Tumblr media
I hope at least, Ishmael will play a really good part in Heathcliff's evolution in his Canto, the next one, but that's disappointing that during Ishmael's, it wasn't much. She could have got closer to Outis during the final fight, since both were already working as a team on the boat before, she could have got closer to Rodion, who helped her, or maybe Don! It's sad she was just, here, alone, against Ahab. It broke the whole purpose of "finding her new self", and she seemed that she came to this conclusion randomly.
So yup. Big disappointment. I probably set the bar of my expectations too high, maybe, but I'm not the only one sharing this, as I discuted it with some people before. I can complain about other points, like how Moby Dick just appeared for one scene, that Queequeg's death was absolutely useless to the story, or the lack of new abnormalities. But I'm being annoying.
Mili's song was fire tho, as always

Ive kinda enjoyed how limbus does the gameplay for each of its cantos, it tends to teach you about a facet of the combat in specific fights, starting with ada who tests if you understand human fights then going to kromer who tests your usage of ego gifts with the sign ego. then you have dongbaek who makes sure you understand how to clash and then dongrang to tech you how to deal with priority and speed. then after thag you have ricardo, who teaches you the power of corrosions and using small amounts of sinners, you also got ahab who teaches you priority and how to bypass guards, and most recentntly (spoilers for canto 6 part 2 by the by) with how to manage sinner and enemy sanity. they seem to focus on each part of combat and illustrates how to get good with the many builds you can make and how to strategize for the fihhts using the system. makes me kinda excited to see if they make it so enemies can also corrode, or some other facet of the combat.

chapter 4 mirror dungeon major spoilers!!!
liveblogging one of the final stages of the 3rd floor. kind of. im just editing this post endlessly
pre-battle story:
DONGRANGS GONNA FUCKING DISTORT I CAN SEE IT FROM A MILE AWAY.
the lines about how hes changed and empty husks just set off so many warning signs with how negative he was being. AND NOW THE NAME AND SCENERY CHANGE?
"DONGRANG, WHO DENIES ALL" NOOOO!!! NO!!!!! DONGRANG!!!!!!!! DONGRAAAAAANG!! AAAGH <- excited but also. we're in for a fucking beating, mental and physical
"who is... mr. dongrang talking to?" AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH I KNEW IT
DON KNOWS?!
"might not be a terminus, but rather step in the process." will this be like xiao - partial distortion, then gaining ego..? im not super confident in the possibility since dongrangs actually done shitty stuff and knows it, he's seen how he's lost compassion.
"i guess it wasnt just my work that burned in the concept incinerator that day. my mind's garden i'd been tending to also burned with it." the personality and kindess he had developed burned away that day. dongbaek also told him that if his technology wasn't changing the world, it wasn't worth putting effort into.
god im so. augh. im anticipating this so so much
it just. ended after faust's dialogue??? theres. a fucking 7 sinner battle up ahead what. huh. GUYS THE STORY YOU FORGOT THE STORY...
battle:
OHHHHHH he distorted offscreen. okay so. im in danger! but this design goes hard as fuck, as well as the music
design stuff: he's 100% the grown-up calf he nurtured. he mentioned it as well, saying it wouldn't recognize him. maybe that's why the face is covered? i also like the vines and such, and how. sad that calf half looks. it really does look old and abandoned.
idk much yet about the rest of the design, but i like the use of yellow, bc a) calf's fur, b) the symbolism of it (reminds me of happiness and childishness). though i wonder if he's 100% calf/cow, or a centaur instead? his hands have become viney and there's leaves around where totally covered head is, but he has ears as well (or horns?). also i just fucking noticed his shirt looks like dongbaeks in her spicebush ego......
phase 2:
HE FUCKING OpENED???? OKAY THEN (ignore the fucking. p my key is broken)
time to look at the design then :3
so the inside of the head is hollow and rimmed with teeth. maybe the horns are teeth too? there's some eyes and flesh inside, kinda reminds me of nothing there..... the bell inside is. ringing some bells in my memory. but i cant recall what </3 also his body just looks like. Muscle. and the open eye..... ough this design is just so. monstrous and interesting. and the trees having the trophies as fruits of vanity!!!!! thats so fucking cool
phase 3:
he shrivelled up..... ough
not sure what the resentful trees are. maybe the trophies got wrapped up in something? it looks kinda like spider silk?
dongrang is just. slowly being destroyed now. theres no remnants of humanity, he isnt even humanoid now.
used branch of knowledge on a resentful tree lmao
aaaand shi ishmael took him down. ggs!
post-battle story:
the game froze

not a request but i'm curious which animals you personally think represent the sinners best/like to depict them as :3 i always love knowing about people's answers on this.....
I'll be honest, I don't think a whole lot about the animals I choose for the sinners haha. It's mostly just based of ✨vibes✨ over potential symbolism etc.
My half-joke answer to the actual question though is everyone is a cat. Everyone is cat-coded if you try hard enough and were at least a little obsessed with Warrior Cats as a child, so if I'm ever at a loss I just make them a cat lol.
Here are my actual answers though! Some have more than 1 because I like variety and some are. Really straight forward/obvious lol. Animals in italics mean that I got the idea from seeing other artists draw the sinners as those animals and are thus, not really my idea haha. Under the cut for length!
Yi Sang: Crow, domestic short-hair cat
Faust: Domestic long-hair cat, deer
Don Quixote: Serval, unicorn, chicken/birds in general, dog
Ryoshu: Domestic short-hair cat, dragon, secretary bird, reptiles in general
Meursault: Walrus, at the suggestion of my buddy Myth
Hong Lu: Peacock, Eastern dragon, goldfish, deer
Heathcliff: Bunny :3 or some kind of canine. But mostly bnuuy
Ishmael: Cephalopods, whales, Subnautica flavored leviathans
Rodya: Bear
Dante: Kitty clock :3c
Sinclair: Like Don Quixote, chicken/birds in general, dog
Outis: Horse, fox
Gregor: Bugs are too obvious, so at the suggestion of Myth again - hedgehog, tenrec
And non-sinner characters bonus round, as a treat.
Dongbaek: Deer, hare, jackalope, fox
Vergilius: Snow leopard, crocodile
Charon: Crocodile, bunny
Not sure about Saude & Effie but I think they're be the same or similar animals. I also just wanted to include them too because I miss them :')

WHAT THE FUCK
(Canto 4-48)
HEY DONGRANG I KNEW YOU WERE A FUCKER BUT WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK
So k corp's singularity is just torturing people to torture a a nonhuman entity for source material cool cool cool
I guess the animal abuse earlier was a sign but eurgh
...oh Dongbaek's probably distorting cool cool cool
I'm sure this is fine I say about a cutscene before a fight
This is probably going to be super brutal even with seven people, all of my dudes are underlevelled and some are massively underleveled...

(distortion anon w the bad memory) if don recognizing signs of a distortion was actually at dongrang's fight then i think i assumed she picked up the clue from dongbaek IDK SORRY AGAIN FOR TROUBLING YOU
You are not troubling at all! I mean, I made this blog to talk with people about Don, so my plan working perfectly, but I won't answer separately to your first ask and just add it here, because they are kinda connected
Tumblr media
And okay, there is a chance that she would understand that it's distortion after observing Kromer and Dongbeak, but others saw all this too and didn't connect the dots? Sinclair was first to notice that Dongrang speak with someone, and yet he didn't understood anything, at the same time being the closest to Kromer when she Distorted(Kromer's Distortion was a mess so I'm not blaming him). And Don doesn't sound like she makes guesses when she tells Dante about Distortion, it's like she knows for sure.
But again, there is a chance that it may be a lucky guess, but then why bother adding this moment of two lines, if Faust was ready to tell us about Distortion?
(But if she did make a guess based on observation, then she's more observant than most of Sinners, and I like this possibility too)

Project moon has ruined me. Everywhere I go, I hear coin tosses and dice rolls. It can't be stopped. I often snap my fingers to calm myself, I go shopping and I find a piano named Roland. I pass through a library and immediately think about Ruina. I can’t go to an office without thinking about full-stop office, I finally get to work and they installed Kali linux on every single computer and I can't stop myself saying "HAHA MANAGER ESQUIRE, THIS IS THIS !" I look for clothes to have a new (todays) look, but hold on- is this made of nuovo fabric- oh no...

Yeeeaaah... Unfortunately, this boss is a bit of a knowledge check along with doing some wonky things with Yi Sang if he's on the team. I more or less unga-bunga'd this with Cinq Don and Spicebush Yi Sang a few months ago on my first try, but I also have the background of Library of Ruina to remind Project Moon doesn't fuck around with endgame content (and this is endgame content as far as I'm concerned), but in terms of some actual advice... well...
Looking at your lineup of leveled and uptied sinners and it looks like you're speedrunning through the content to complete the season pass, and if that's the case then I'd say just be patient. Do some Mirror Dungeon runs, grind some more training tickets and thread, uptie a proper team aside from base sinners, and generally gather some resources until you've got a good enough grip on the game mechanics and team building to survive that encounter. You've got one more month, so use it wisely and relax, only blowhards with no life and overstuffed egos (not the super moves) care about optimization at the stage your at.
With that said, if you really want to clear this with the team you have then here's the best advice I can give.
The Boss: This boss revolves around inflicting Rupture and the unique Blooming status effect on hit, Blooming will deal absolutely terrifying SP damage that will neuter every character sans N Corp Sinclair and maybe Sunflower Heathcliff. You need good clashing units on your team to deal with Dongbaek's attacks. Thankfully, most of Dongbaek's attacks only have slightly above average numbers in the first half.
The Flowers: GET RID OF THESE ASAP. Just trust me on this one. Prioritize these cursed things if you can afford to. You've got Rhino Mersualt decently leveled, he can tank and has good clashing power, he'll live more than most.
The Team
Of your current team, Seven Faust and Rhino Meursault are good picks. Rhino Meursault can clash and tank and Seven Faust can clash decent, though make sure your team can comfortably fuel Faust's default EGO because that's you're main sanity healer.
Level up and Uptie 3 N Corp Heathcliff ASAP, his Skill 2 can lower coin power and you will need it.
Until you get N Corp Faust don't both leveling up any other N Corp ID save for Heathcliff, most other N Corp IDs need the synergy of other N Corp members on the team sans N Corp Faust and Sinclair.
I'm a little mixed on Rodion. Base Rodion's support passive (when she's benched) is always nice to have, but Kurokumo Clan Rodion is leveled and has good clashing numbers. I'd say keep her on Kurokumo Clan for now unless you're confident Faust and Meursault can handle most of the damage.
I'd say switch to Zwei Gregor since he can tank, has good-ish clashing numbers, and generates Sloth to use Outis's cheap and spam-able EGO. Plus, his defense buffs means you can afford a few screw ups and not die.
Use Base Outis, she has okay clashing numbers, her rupture is reliable chip damage, her EGO is very spam-able if you need it, and she has Pride for Faust's EGO as well.
Anyone you don't place on using for the battle switch to their base forms, you'll need all the passives you can get.
That's all the immediate advice I can give you, but just know you're in endgame content now, there's no shame in losing a few times and having to try again later when you get a better team when you get the resources. Do some Mirror Dungeon runs to try grinding EGO shards if you've finished the season pass. If you have then prioritize getting Faust's Fluid Sac and Meursault's Pursuance when you have the shards for, but mostly Faust's Fluid Sac since it heals everyone.
OKAY I'M TIRED someone please, PLEASE I'm begging you, tell me how to get through 4-48. My main team dies despite max lvl and I don't know what to do and who to use. Flower phase just too powerful TT
I don't have any EGO or identity for Ryōshū (unfortunately, cause I love her she's my precious queen) aaaand I only have Shi association for Don Quixote (0 EGO for her yeah). My others sinners with their EGO and identities are right here and I'll be super-grateful for advices :“)
