Batfam and Danny, Part 7

It was a nice sunny day in Gotham, Alfred had set up a family picnic in the gardens of the manor. For the most part it was peaceful, Dick, Jason, and Tim had only gotten into five distinct arguments/fights in the last hour, Cass and Barbara were meditating under a tree, Steph was suntanning, Duke was enjoying the food Alfred made, Damian was giving Danny another lesson on swordsmanship.

As for Bruce, he was happy seeing his family get along and getting a chance to relax and have fun. He quietly wished that this day could continue without any unexpected surprises.

A green portal opened above them and a white and green blur came out of it and pounced on Danny. Danny stumbled to the floor with a white-haired, green-eyes girl on top of him.

Danny: Ellie!

Ellie: Danny!

They got up and hugged.

Ellie: I've missed you!

Danny: I've missed you too.

They got up.

Ellie: So this is your new family?

Danny looked around to see the rest of the batfam ready to fight.

Ellie: Jumpy aren't they?

Danny: Yeah they are. He looked at Ellie. Ellie if you don't mind can you detransforms? We're currently just together as civilians.

Ellie: Sure thing. Ellie detransformed.

Danny: Everyone this is Ellie, my clone/little sister. Ellie this is my family.

The Bats looked at Danny and Ellie back and forth.

Ellie: You didn't tell them about me did you?

Danny: I could have sworn that I did.

Jason: No Danny you did not!

Danny: Ellie this is my dad Jason.

Ellie (running up to Jason, giving him a hug): Hi! Danny's told me so much about you in his letters!

Jason: Hi, good to meet you too. Jason looked down at her. So... you're a clone?

Ellie: Yeah, I was created by Vlad back when he was still evil. We're all chill now.

Jason (looking at Danny): Kid, how could you not mention you have a sister?

Ellie: Well he doesn't have A sister.

Jason: Danny!?

Danny: I have another sister, an older one, her name is Jazz, she's 19 and lives in Metropolis. I sometimes fly over there to visit her.

Jason: Kid!

Danny: Sorry, Jazz doesn't want to be involved with this superhero stuff while she's in college unless she really needs to, and Ellie lives in the Infinite Realms full-time.

Jason: ...I can't even be mad, this is exactly the kind of thing I would pull.

Ellie: You're family is weird.

Danny: And I love them all the same.

Alfred: Miss Ellie would you like to join our picnic?

Ellie: Oh I wouldn't want to intrude.

Damian: You came out of a portal, and attacked my nephew and pupil, disrupting our lesson, you have intruded.

Ellie: Damian I presume?

Damian: Indeed.

Ellie (choosing chaos): Danny also writes about you, you're his favorite uncle.

Dick and Tim: WHAT!?

Damian: I am?

Ellie: Yes, he loves going on patrol with you and your swordsmanship lessons.

Damian: ...You are welcomed to stay as long as you like, niece.

Ellie: Thank you.

Ellie walked towards the picnic table and started eating some strawberries. Meanwhile Dick and Tim approached Danny.

Dick and Tim: Explain yourself!

Danny: She's lying I don't have a favorite! [Internally: Ellie's not wrong that Damian's my favorite, but I've never written that down!]

Dick: Good, because we all know I'm your favorite.

Tim: In your dreams Richard, I am.

Dick: No you're not Timothy.

Tim: Yes I am.

Dick: No you're not!

Dick rushed towards Tim and the two started fighting.

Damian: Let's continue our lesson Danny, we've wasted valuable time, we don't need to watch does two fight it out for the sixth time in the last hour.

Danny: Yes sir!

Alfred: Master Duke, thank you for not losing your composure.

Duke: Too busy eating right now to care.

Bruce (on the brink of tears): Why does the universe hate me? Why can't we have one normal day?

hello! i just started race condition, and detective obi wan kenobi is so cool and fun. i'm curious (and forgive me if this comes up later in the story, or in asynchronous circuit [which i will definitely be reading after this]) but if obi wan no longer speaks with a coruscanti accent, what does he sound like now? do you have a dialect or even a specific actor's voice that you imagine his narration with? again, loving the story!

I'm glad you're enjoying Race Condition! I personally never understand why people who haven't already read asynch start reading race con because surely the main appeal of race con is detective obi-wan which people who haven't read asynch aren't invested in. but if you're having fun, what the hell do I know.

anyways, detective obi-wan's normal accent is a mix of mid- to outer-rim because of all the time he's spent living out there. I don't imagine a specific real-life voice or dialect because it's space language anyways and it's not relevant or especially helpful for writing the story. sorry if that's a boring answer, but I really just don't do stuff like voice claims or face claims or playlists with my stories, I just write them

Sure! I watched a lore video so I know most of the background (That's... one way to cope, Geppetto....). P's personality is ambiguous just like the game, but he is trying to be human (Totally not for you, definitely....)

I got really into this... So that was fun.

Pinocchio is certainly a... lost individual throughout the events of the game.

By the time he awakens, he's barely aware of his purpose.

He's clueless to Krat's problems until he encounters them.

There's the puppet frenzy, the disease plaguing humans, the undead....

Pinocchio, due to how he was created and his purpose, is in a strange middle ground.

He's a puppet... but also not.

Due to his unique creation, he's more akin to a human the longer he interacts with his world.

Unlike other puppets, he chooses his actions, he's sympathetic.

So imagine if he meets you, a human, and starts feeling... strange.

The big mechanic in Lies of P is choosing between two paths.

You can either stick to your programming and stay a puppet, or you can aim to be something more... human.

Imagine Pinocchio trying to be more human because he's attached to you?

Maybe you knew Carlos... or maybe you're entirely unrelated?

Either way, you meet the puppet during his quest through Krat.

Humans were rather scattered in the city due to everything going on.

You either perish from sickness... or one of the mechanical monsters in this place.

You had been scraping by the best you could.

However, just when you thought you'd meet your end...

A puppet stepped in, slaying another robotic automaton and preventing it from harming you.

This puppet... was different from the others.

You don't understand it at first... The puppet is oddly quiet as it observes you.

Yet this one speaks... and you can understand it.

It's a bit stilted at first, as if struggling to find its voice.

But you manage to learn its name... P.

It's a simple name, no doubt a nickname.

You deem Pinocchio/P harmless, despite its surprisingly curious gaze.

Something about this puppet seemed more human and controlled than the others.

All other puppets in Krat are frenzied... This one is not.

Your first meetings with the puppet are... mutually curious.

You've never seen a puppet like him.

He felt so human even as he led you to where most other humans were hiding with Sophia.

It's... uncanny, actually.

For now you can tell the difference... but later it's nearly impossible.

Pinocchio, on the other hand, is just as fascinated with you.

As I said before, this would make more sense if you had some sort of connection to Carlos.

Since Pinocchio seems to act on the memories of Carlos... Maybe you were friends like Romeo?

That or you remind him of someone similar and that makes him keep an eye on you.

Pinocchio is a puppet you end up encountering more than you'd think.

The puppet's attachment to you feels... real in a way.

At first you thought the puppet was simply trying to protect you, no doubt some sort of programming that makes it so humans aren't harmed....

The thing is... It isn't anything like that.

This attachment comes entirely from his decisions.

No one is making him follow you around...

He's choosing to.

When Pinocchio isn't out searching for his father, he looks for you.

You could be scouting or staying in Hotel Krat... and still find that mysterious puppet.

You swear he's following you... and maybe he is.

Something in him wants to understand you.

You can read curiosity in his cold gaze... bug you don't want to acknowledge the thought.

This is a puppet... just like the ones out there... yet it's so hard to convince yourself of that.

Each time you see Pinocchio, he's less like a puppet.

You try to tell yourself it's just because you're used to him...

Although, who keeps changing his appearance then?

Pinocchio is gentle with you, always observing you like you're easy to break.

You can't tell what the puppet wants from you....

At the very least you assume friendship... You see that in the way he talks to you, slowly getting more used to using his voice.

He listens to you, mechanical gears clicking as he watches you.

It's like he's fond of you.

You begin to question his motives once he gets bolder.

Whenever you're busy, you'll feel his cold touch tentatively prod at you for attention.

He often sticks around you to see what you do, watching your every move like he's trying to learn from you.

There's times the puppet will mimic you... and other times he acts on his own accord.

You feel like you never get answers when it comes to Pinocchio.

The puppet is determined to talk to you, to learn from you...

He wants to learn everything.

Pinocchio is used to fighting.

Any weapon he uses is often covered in the life blood of whatever beast remains in Krat.

He's a skilled and determined fighter... he never seems to really die as long as his heart is intact.

He has such a pretty face... yet violent tendencies.

Although, with you, there's no trace of that.

With you he's a genuine pretty face, even if it's all to cover up lies.

You begin to worry as Pinocchio becomes more human... and more bold

If you're upset or scared, he sits beside you and attempts to mimic human comfort.

That... That is okay... at least, you try to tell yourself that.

It's when you notice Pinocchio getting more... insistent? Affectionate?

Pinocchio only ever seems to greet you with a hug the more human he becomes.

It's all very strange... You swear you felt him warmer...

Must just be you.

Others comment on his changed appearance, yet you struggle to grapple with the thought.

He's a puppet... but with you he acts too human...

He hugs you, tells you he missed you...

Yet still observes you from a distance, as if cautious about you being around other humans.

Things hit a peak when Pinocchio's actions can no longer be described as friendly.

At first you thought the puppet wanted you as a friend.

Maybe he has a basic view of friendship?

Somehow... unfortunately for you... it appears he's learned new behavior.

During a conversation with Pinocchio in Hotel Krat, you notice the oddly human puppet acting strange.

As you lament about something, you immediately stop in your tracks when Pinocchio leans closer.

You freeze when the puppet is nearly against your side and chest, mysterious eyes watching you.

When the puppet goes in for what you can only assume is a mock kiss, you gently tilt his head away.

You aren't sure if you should even be surprised anymore when Pinocchio gives a confused expression, neck clicking as he tilts his head.

It feels too wrong... too strange... too artificial yet not....

You apologize to the puppet, stating you can't go through with... that.

The puppet merely blinks, but nods with a mumbled agreement.

Unfortunately, you see the puppet trying again once more time passes.

He keeps trying to gain more humanity, to be more human.

Do you not love him because he isn't a human?

He doesn't get it... He recalls memories of him feeling this way to someone like you...

Why aren't you reciprocating?

The puppet tries to become more human to win you over.

By the end of it with long hair in a silver blue tinge... He hopes it's enough.

He wants to feel your warmth, your lips, your touch...

He wants to feel human.

Even if you refuse him as his most human state, perhaps the puppet may just snap.

He's tired of this, he's tried so hard...

He'll never be fully human or chase those memories again...

So he just needs to force it.

At your final rejection, the puppet pins you.

His eyes are cold, body much stronger and sturdier than your own.

With a click, his eyes look to your lips, before you feel cold porcelain lips on your own.

You push on the puppet, it doesn't budge.

The kiss isn't invasive... but it's bruising, a fabrication of the real thing.

By the time Pinocchio pulls away, he's already decided what he wants.

You'll realize he's human enough for you... He just needs to be patient.

You'll love him like you would a real human, won't you?

Even if it means him keeping you away from any other human?

Perhaps Pinocchio just needs to learn new tricks....

You'll love the puppet eventually...

Especially if he makes it so he's all you have.

You know It's going to take you some time to recuperate, your body looks rougher then you expected. To be fair as a god you never really had the chance to be hurt so you are hardly an expert. Still you are definitely going to speed up the recovery as much as you can without it being suspicious.

Mindlessly as Mother Spore you bring Boogeyman to his lab and after a few words leave...you pretty much do the same as Poultryman with the vigilantes, Flame is apprehensive about what happened at forst but you assure him everything is alright and he accepts it easily enough...still not completely though.

As soon as they are out of sight you remove those vessels, you doubt you are going to have use for them for a while... You aren't even going to be able to go out as Poultryman for a while either since the other heroes are extra on edge now.

...

After that it becomes mostly a waiting game, you'd think being alive for all of the universe's history would make it not that annoying but you would be wrong. It's horrible, pure torture. You can't even do anything about it-

And then you remember, you're a literal god, there is so much you can do... And what you want to do right now is get a little revenge. If there is one thing you can do very well is making mortal lives worse after all.

Pharaoh you end up not doing anything to in the end, he was the one you were the least annoyed with since he didn't even kill Hotguy on purpose. It's not like you planned on not doing anything to him but more that you focused on the other two and by the time you even remembered he existed too much time had passed and you didn't care about him enough to bother.

Xonorth on the other hand killed Hotguy the first time around, you can still pretty clearly remember the black goopy tendril going into his chest and put the other side.

Still, he didn't kill him the rest of the times so you are... merciful, just a bit of mostly harmless fun. Like going after his men and sabotaging a few of his dealings or writing a love letter with his signature on it and giving it to some Joey guy... That's going to be so deliciously akward.

As for Quackity...youu thought about killing him and getting rid of the problem for good, you truly did...but Pearl's words resonated and made you change your mind. After all, she's right, there are many different... More fun ways to deal with problems. And if It's not as fun you can just kill him.

You start easy: A cold and bitter tea,bland food, an alarm clock that's way too loud, a warm pillow, a door that just won't close no matter what he does, air thats just warm enough to make him sweat with a jacket on but cold enough that he's kind of cold without it... You even move all the things in his office by a few centimeters and learn so many new swear words from him stubbing his toe. Oh oh, you think about it last second, you make his office chair just likely shorter, that is going to drive him insane. Truly, this is the best use of your godly powers.

The second day you decide to bring it a notch higher...

"Quackity from Las Nevadas?"

"Slime? What's wrong?"

"The printer isn't working."

"Huh? Let me look"

"..."

"It's just out of ink, do we still have some spares?"

They don't, you took them all and dropped them in the hands of three random teens.

"Nope! Should I go buy them Quackity from Las Nevadas?"

"No, have Fundy do it, we pay for a reason."

And so he does and you follow closely behind knowing well how this is going to go down.

"What do you mean there's too much ink???"

"Quackity? I could suck the ink out?"

"And now It's not enough?? Did Fundy but more?"

"Nope! Just this one!"

"... Great"

...

"Stupid machine, you got your ink now, just work!"

"..."

You push a bit of power and the printer is disconnected from the wifi, glad Mumbo thought you how that works.

"Ughh"

He punched it, you were waiting for this, you make it spray ink all over his face, It's hilarious. Well, that was entertaing enough, time to kill him.

Unfortunately he didn't die, guess you didn't make the snails toxic enough, or he's really really immune to the toxin... Still, you feel so much better already.

I know that we often criticize JK Rowling's writing (and with good reason), but there's one thing I believe she got right: how she portrays Harry finding out about his father's bullying.

Since the beginning of the books, we see Harry's parents as these perfect heroes, who gave their lives to save their son. So, obviously, this orphan child idolizes his parents - and so do we, as readers.

The only person who goes against that idea is Snape, who only ever says bad things about James Potter. However, Harry doesn't believe him, and neither do the readers.

And then, we see Snape's memories and find out that he was right all along. That James wasn't a perfect hero, but used to be a violent bully who tormented people for fun. Just like Harry, we get disenchanted, like we have been deceived this entire time.

Harry idolizes his father, but he's still capable of recognizing that his actions were cruel and inexcusable. Harry hates Snape, but still acknowledges that he didn't deserve that kind of treatment. It's a good message to show that people aren't just "good" or "bad".

And because of that, it's even more frustrating when fans try to defend James' actions, by saying: "Actually, no, Snape was a bad person, so he deserved to be bullied".

Even Harry HATES Snape and is able to see that what his father did is horrible. Harry adores Sirius and adores Remus, and yet he tells them to piss off when they try to justify the bullying. The purpose of that scene is for Harry to demystify his father, to learn that he wasn’t perfect, and to start doubting the adult figures of his childhood. It’s a way to break away from childish innocence and to make the protagonist understand that not everything is black or white, and that even good people can do horrible things, and it’s not right to idealize anyone.

The scene is designed to seem horrible. Harry finds it horrible. Harry. James’s son. Sirius’s godson. Harry finds what they did disgusting, and they’re doing it to someone Harry hates. This isn’t accidental; narrative and storytelling aren’t accidental things. The scene is set up this way, and the protagonist’s reaction is what it is because Rowling is telling the reader that it was horrible, that James and Sirius were bullies, and that Snape was their victim. Denying this goes against the narrative. But justifying it with absurdities like saying it was Snape’s fault for not wearing pants?? I get that they are kids saying these things, but one day they’ll wake up at 25 and realize the nonsense they said online, and they’re really going to feel terrible shame.

The worst part is that they’re not interested in understanding other points of view. Like, you share links or articles with different perspectives, and they don’t care. They don’t give a damn about the canon; they literally deny it. The mental gymnastics they do to justify the abuse? But then they say the scenes are open to interpretation, like, hello? They’re not? The scenes are designed to convey a message, and the message is clear. That they need to deny it over and over again to avoid admitting they’re whitewashing and justifying wealthy abusers is their cognitive dissonance running wild. Honestly, what a damn shame these people are; I don’t care if they’re kids, I had more than two neurons at 15.

Regressing is all about having fun, and making new memories and experiences. I think it's great you have a fandom/character you love enough to go on that journey with. Some of us may not be so good at playing with toys or doing a lot of commonly talked about agere activities, like me. But my characters I love? My art, my writing? Absorbing myself into a fictional safe space I've built is how I play. How I express myself, and I want you to know you can do that in any way you want.

I spent far too long thinking things were wrong or right, that they were taboo or bad in this community when really, I was just disagreeing with the masses about an opinion in fiction. Everyone has different opinions, comfort levels, boundaries on their own works, etc, but as long as you aren't breaking those bounds and are keeping things SFW? Have a blast. This is your coping mechanism, your fandoms, your interests, your things that make you happy. Have the most fun, okay little one?

synopsis: he can't even leave you alone for a second before you lose your glasses. now, the two of you are frantically searching everywhere for them.

author's note: thank you so much for the request! this one is going to be so fun to write since i seem to lose my glasses when they are on my face! it did get self indulgent just a bit but 😅. feel free to request more!

one minute. one stupid, short, devastating minute. that's how long he was gone to grab something from the room. franco looks at you, watching as you scramble across the floor, eyes squinted so much they almost looked closed. he sighs heavily, knowing exactly what happened just from the scene he walked back in to.

"mi amor, did you lose your glasses, again?" he asks you exasperatedly. he pinches the bridge of his nose and sets the blanket down on the couch. you squint in his general direction, trying to make out the colorful blob that seemed to be franco. you give him a sheepish smile.

"uh, no? i just, uh, really like the carpet. yep! the carpet is why i am on the floor!" you lie through your teeth, even though it was obvious you were desperately trying to find where you had dropped your glasses earlier.

you couldn't see the exact face your boyfriend was giving you but you could picture it. you give up and sit on your knees, looking and picking at the carpet. "okay, fine. i might have lost them again," you whisper, an embarrassed blush creeping up your neck, covering your cheeks, and painting the tips of your ears a bright red. to franco, the sight was adorable.

franco let's out a quiet, teasing laugh. "do you need help?" he asks, titling his head as he moves closer to you so you could see him clearer.

you nod and murmur a small, "yes, please." this wasn't the first time this has happened, nor would this be the last. you had a tendency to take your glasses off whenever it felt convenient, leaving them in places you never seem to remember. like one time, you were in the bedroom and remembered you needed your glasses. unfortunately, like always, you didn't remember where you put them so it ended up being an hour long search just for them to be in the bathroom.

franco was used to this. he knew you were forgetful, knew you often left things in places where they aren't needed. it doesn't take him as long as it used to as this happened almost daily. the two of you searched the living with little luck, thought you did find your pencil you lost when filling out some papers!

you moved on to the kitchen, squinting once more as you felt and looked around for a black blob that might have remotely resembled your glasses. franco followed quickly behind, opening the refrigerator and immediately finding your thick framed glasses.

he smiles softly and moves over to where you were searching through cabinets of plates and bowls, muttering about something. franco wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you closer. "my wonderful, handsome, forgetful boyfriend," he begins, kissing your cheek softly. "i found them." he holds out the pair of glasses, you immediately grabbing them and putting them back on.

"thank you!" you exclaim, turning to hug him tightly, thanking him over and over again. "where were they?!"

"in the fruit drawer," franco responds neutrally, shrugging his shoulders and grinning. "you know, you should invest in contacts." you scowl at him.

"no way! i'd forget they were in, fall asleep with them in, and i really don't think that would end all too well," you remind him, watching as he holds in laughter. it was a conversation you both had before. "plus, i'm too lazy to take them in and out anyways," you add, though much quieter.

franco laughs and hugs you again, kissing the top of your head. "yeah, i know," he replies, his words muffled against your hair.

if you can read about the effects of kidnapping/dehumanisation/medical abuse/what have you for your whump fic, you can damn right read some first person accounts of addicts talking about their shit online and do the bare minimum of research into the topic. you guys are way too comfortable going around slinging words and using this shit for angst points, in a way that i really don't see much with any other topic. i don't know, maybe i don't read the right kind of fic in the right kind of fandom, but it really feels like you guys take withdrawal, maybe a little bit of the original hurt, and that's it. if you're gonna mention it off handedly once in what you're writing, fine. but you can't make it the center of your fic without a modicum of research, and a modicum of respect for the real people going through it.

contrary to what seems to be popular belief, most addicts don't just do drugs for shits and giggles and there's a difference between recreational drug use and addiction. a wild fucking difference. smoking a couple of joints of popping a couple of party pills for fun is not the same. you guys know that right?

anyway, if you're gonna write about addiction. at least. at least bother looking at the most common side effects of an addiction, yeah? just for you, i'll write some down here (disclaimer, this is written in one go, is not in the least comprehensive, and doesn't account for the variety of the human experience) (this isn't a guide):

financial jeaopardy: drugs are expensive. sometimes you'll pick drugs over food. sometimes youll pick drugs over shelter.

your social life might take a blow, even if people don't notice you have an addiction. you might blow off plans to get high, might isolate yourself either out of shame or out of annoyance.

your physical health takes a toll regardless of the drugs effect on the body. chances are your sleeping and eating habits will take a blow

this one seems obvious, but there's a real dependence. not just physically either, but an emotional one as well. especially when taken from a place of mental unrest, drugs become an emotional crutch. getting sober is dealing with more than physical symptoms i can't stress this enough

there's also financial stress. will you be able to pay for your next dose? how about the one that comes after that? what will you even do if you can't pay? etcetc. this comes with financial jeopardy, but it's not the same, there's a very real fear that can lead people to do many things in order to assage it.

this is not necessarily something that goes away as soon as you get sober either btw. you might carry that fear, even subconsiouly, in the "what if i need a dose some day" folder of your brain for a long while

a lot of people don't quit cold turkey, or don't quit entirely. often just going off the stuff isn't an option, whether that be because physical symptoms are too bad and dangerous or because it would do too much psychological harm. going from hard drugs to smoking a pack a day is a huge win.

even when sober some shit might trigger you. shoutout to people who've gotten sober once and never relapsed but that's not everyone. depending on why you got addicted in the first place, it'll happen more or less often, and people will be able to cope with trigger better or worse, but a relapse is not the end of the line. at all.

there's a lot of other shit i can't think of at the top of my head. there's some stuff about how friends and families might react that i don't feel like talking about. there's shit about the recovery process that you can look at yourself. but please for the love of god. go look at it.

one last thing. you can't treat all substances the same. the effects on the body and mind aren't the same. you have to figure out what your character's substance of choice is and stick with it. figure out how expensive it is, figure out how safe it is, etc etc. you can't make someone who does acid be the same as someone who takes laughing gaz. not the same substance. and also don't forget that there are MANY things one might take for a high that don't even register in your mind (paint. glue. certain brands of cough syrup. etc.)

So after obsessing over these dinky little content farm inspired Bootleg figures, I've done the most research that I can into their personalities. Doing so consists of watching one video of their cutout dialogue.

Funnily enough, if you think about it way too much, these characters have almost the exact opposite personalities of the Smiling Critters. I might make fanart of this later, if I can somehow get the permission of BuggyHuggy to do so.

And yes, I'm going to write about it right here, right now, because I have nothing better to do.

Craftycorn and Bully Bullito aren't too contrasting, but the latter has a crush on the former. They are opposites in certain ways, though. Bully is a lot more brash, rough, and seemingly not very creative. His dialogue implies that he doesn't really know how to reach out to people, while Craftycorn is the epitome of creativity and friendly with everyone (unless her limit is reached, who knows, she might have just been possessive over literal paint). I think he's jealous of her, in a loving way. It's a shame he was rejected. He seems kind all around (with no darker side that may or may not be canon).

KickinChicken is a well-intentioned sports fan who always has his friends' backs but is also competitive and up for a bit of mischief from time to time. His counterpart, Griffy Gingers, is similar to him in wanting to stir up a bit of trouble, but his pranks are less sensitive to others and can actually be harmful. He seems to WANT to get along with others and just have fun, but he pushes things too far in his attempts. He could maybe be a better person under the right influences. If he wasn't rejected, that is.

Bubba Bubbaphant and Moody Moose have a more direct contrast. Bubba is known for his intelligence and willingness to help his friends in times of need. Moody, confusingly, doesn't seem to be moody at all. He's more confused, unaware, and seeking anyone's help with his problems. He doesn't seem very smart and constantly relies on others. When someone comes across him, he states that he hasn't eaten in days, is currently homeless, and can't even remember his own name. He clearly can't support himself, let alone anyone else. He is truly the textbook definition of pathetic. He's not a moody moose. He's a moochy moose. It's a shame, really. He seems like a sweet guy.

Hoppy Hopscotch is a harder one to pin down. She's a dreamer, very ambitious, and another lover of exercise, just like Kickin Chicken. She might have an interest in space, who knows. But she obviously wants to travel far and do amazing things. Crocky Rocky is like this as well, but instead of striving to do better for himself, he's living in a shadow. The one belonging to the aforementioned chicken. He's constantly seeking validation from him, calling him his brother. Whether Kickin repricotiates these feelings is unknown. He also seeks to bring others into this "cool kid" clique he's come up with, not because he wants to help spread good vibes, but because he feels like doing so will prove something. Unless he does something different, this Critter isn't going to go very far, much less to the moon.

Bobby Bearhug is always looking to spread love to everyone around her, cheering up anyone who's feeling down, much like her pal Dogday. Tiggy Tigers is also looking to make friends and share kindness with them, but less to help others, and more for their own benefit. They make friends to make themselves feel better, and if the object of their affections is put off by them, they become EXTREMELY clingy. While Bobby can (and maybe does) end up this way, Tiggy acts out of a possessive need for control, always wanting to be the center of everyone's attention. And heaven help you if they decide to hate you instead. Maybe it's a good thing that they were rejected.

We all love Dogday, always reassuring his friends that everything will be okay, and looking at the bright side of things. There isn't really a Rejected Critter who directly opposes his viewpoint, but that doesn't necessarily mean that he doesn't have a counterpart. Enter Riddle Roo. Their gimmick is stealing things and collecting them. This doesn't really seem like much to go off of until you find out that they think others don't understand them because they're not a "hoarder" like them. That's not usually something someone admits to proudly, and there's usually a reason behind that kind of behavior other than wanting to collect things. My theory is that Riddle Roo hoards things because they're isolated and can't make friends. Their urge to steal might have been born from their loneliness, and their continued bad habits and isolation make them sink deeper into their self created misery. They're not happy with their situation, but they find comfort in superficial things, and as such, they see no reason to stop.

Finally, the misfit of the Smiling Critters. Catnap is the hardest to analyze. Other than the antagonistic role the real life one played in chapter 3, we don't know much about his character. All we know is that he likes to watch his friends sleep after helping them do so. This isn't a very good look. But hey, maybe Catnap isn't intentionally malicious. Maybe he really does have his friends' best interests at heart. Nobody can really say. You know who is intentionally malicious, doesn't have their friends' interests at heart, and has absolutely no shame in showing it? Snidey Spidey. This little creep really is a pest. They derive all their pleasure from the misery of others, scaring them when they're not expecting it. Usually, while they're sleeping. Sounds like the opposite of Catnap to me. Plus, cats hate jumpscares. Yeah.

Now, after all this silly neurodivergent rambling, I'm sure you've noticed something. One of the Smiling Critters is missing, and that's because she doesn't have a counterpart. The Smiling Critters consist of eight members, while the Rejected Critters only have seven. So Picky Piggy is left without a contrasting personality to compare. Shame, really. She's my favorite. But hey, her personality is extremely strange all on its own. She likes food. Fair enough, she's a pig. But then there's the lines of her dialogue that imply a darker side to her.

I get why Catnap is the villain of chapter 3, but Picky Piggy could be a close second, I'm just saying.

Maybe I'll take out Sir Smiley from my bedside drawer and make him her counterpart. I'm not going to do that just yet because one, I'm still trying to hunt down a potential origin for his character, and two, I'm afraid to let him loose.

No joke, he's scarier than any other Critter I've seen. Canon or otherwise. And I'm including chapter 4.

Im especially interested in your opinion of the companions! Did you like any, how would you rank them, how did they compare to other games.

I did enjoy veilguard myself cause admittedly im a combat enjoyer (boo me now) and the combat was great to me. But what is usually good in dragon age/bioware even if everything else sucks are characters and their stories and interactions and that was so bad in veilguard imo.

Still I liked Davrin and Emmrich and Bellara myself, rest were very mixed, and these three also suffered from bad dialogue and Bellara also from some overt cutesiness.

hehe noooooo i wouldn't boo you! this game really made me realize that i prefer video games as a form of interactive storytelling rather than purely for gameplay, but i mean, i feel like im the weirdo here if anything. video games are games first... as much as i like the combat (especially when it's in big open fields, with opportunities for cover ; god is it satisfying to slowly take down a mob of enemies through clever dodging and hiding, i wayyyy prefer that to spamming the flashy special moves), it feels empty to me if i dont feel connected to the world. ideally, i'd love to play games where i enjoy both, but if i have to pick, i'll prefer a game that i find unfun to play but where i like the writing

i think it's a pretty weak cast, yeah. individually, but also as a group, they lack chemistry to me. most of them get along just fine, but not in a way that's particularly fun or exciting. their relationships aren't interesting to me because they're very samey, both in that most people are friendly and also that they start out friendly and end up friendly. dai isn't a game i love, but for all its flaws, it definitely had fascinating character interactions to me. blackwall's friendship with sera is so different to his friendship with cassandra or with solas, and he's initially wary of cole but grows to like him after a while. and these people all have their opinion of blackwall changed forever by revelations. that's what's lacking to me in companion relationships! growth... change... i did enjoy davrin and lucanis's bickering at least. i also did like how emmrich talked to companions, his therapy talk was actually charming every time i liked emmrich and davrin the most! my only problem with davrin is how often he felt shackled to assan, like the writers felt the need to remind us that he has a cute griffon every three seconds in case we were losing interest. but as a character, i found him really cool. i like how level headed he is, i love how he can't tell when lucanis is messing with him on purpose, those feel like great warden traits. emmrich, i really liked that he had the flaws to match his qualities - i love it when he complains about needing to teach TEN students (gasp!), or when davrin asks him if he knows how to wash dishes and he responds like someone who hasn't washed a dish in ten years, and so on. that's definitely what i found lacking in most companions - actual flaws! it's mind boggling to me how much of the lucanis banter i heard was spent clarifying how unproblematic he is. like he doesn't kill children, doesn't kill people who acted in self defense, doesn't kill innocents. what??? he doesn't even have flaws from growing up rich in a mansion... or being the ultimate nepo baby.................... that made most of the companions feel pretty shallow to me, like they were born right before the game began and had lived nothing

lucanis has enough little things about him i like that i would still say i liked him, but he's not getting honours from me. i like his design (it's very satisfyin to draw somehow), i liked spite, i liked the idea that he's trapped in the ossuary in his mind, i loved going to the mansion and seeing how barren and sad it is there. but i think his romance is my least favorite of any i've done in any dragon age games, and i would say that he was a worse boyfriend to have than the one who tried to kill me and also than the one who turned out to be an axe murderer in disguise, cause at least these two liked talking to my characters! lol

i'd put neve next but if im being honest with myself, i disliked more about her than i liked. i liked her bitter cynic pessimist traits, but i found her somewhat inconsistent on that and generally too friendly. the remaining characters, i didn't find anything compelling about them, i dont remember any moment that i liked with them :-( i really wish i did! i gave everyone as fair a shot as i could, i didn't start out this game looking for things to hate, but they really didn't do anything for me. i think bellara suffered from the fact that i dont really like all the technology in this game, i prefer low magic sad unwashed fantasy. at least she was very beautiful so she does get point for that

I don't ship movie Stobotnik because I'm personally not a fan of movie Robotnik or his characterization and their dynamic doesn't compell me, if anything the best it was was the first movie from what I recall in the one time I watched each on release days and I'm not really into the development in Sonic 3 because I prefer it to feel mostly one sided in terms of emotional involvement as I do all my ships with Eggman, as that's what is most in character for game Egg. I don't wanna sound like a negative hater though so I won't talk anything more about that lol

I'd say I kind of ship it when it comes to the idea of game Eggman x Stone though. I mean, I don't think and create anything about them a lot myself because the dynamic that would work for game Eggman involved specifically is already something I write all the time and always have long before Stone existed, as my self ship, Starline x Eggman, etc, is literally exactly the same as Stone would realistically be with game Eggman already. So I'm not all that invested in writing the same type of things again with a third different ship you know XD

But I do like seeing other people's creations in fandom like art (haven't tried looking for fic because I'm unsure of if anyone would pull it off in a way I feel works and would prefer but non story based art doesn't involve that) when it involves game Eggman's classic/modern design and is done in a way that feels in character. And they're just fun to see. I love when people embrace the massive size difference because game Eggman is a beast of a giant bear, that's always hot. I like when they're both drawn loving evil together rather than romance, that's all up my alley

I personally wouldn't want Stone/Stobotnik officially be in the games though. Not exclusive to this ship as I wouldn't want Stone, myself, or anyone else I ship with him to be in the games with him. I think Eggman works best far away from all other living beings, only around his superior robots and programs. I've always liked that he seems to be comfortable and happy in it unlike jimbotnik. Seeing how he talks about his creations being superior to natural life, he feels they're truly superior and prefers how he's more likely to have full control over them in creation and programming than living beings

Considering that he's expressed no desires to exist in the close proximity of anyone besides his own creations or discontentment with his current way of living, I can imagine he only sees living beings as his subjects to rule over when he takes over the world, not to live in close presence. He probably doesn't want any of them ever thinking they could be on his level or worthy of him, so he'd prefer to stay living as an untouchable ruler far above them and not start to mingle with common inferior beings, let alone have a connection with any. It fits him very well

But I think it's still something fun to explore scenarios of in daydreams and fan stuff for me, while considering what his in character interactions would be like if there was a reason for living beings to at least temporarily be around him and him doing gay stuff with them. As he has teamed up with living beings in the games a few times but they never last/are intentionally temporary and I think that's best and makes the most sense for him and wouldn't suddenly change under any circumstances. That's my feelings on it based on what I see

But I'm very happy people are finally considering and embracing gay game Eggman stuff. There's always been plenty of potential in the games alone that people still aren't aware of but the movies are making more open and that's great. Stobotnik isn't one of my biggest ships as it's only official form is in movies I'm not a fan of but I'll take any gay Eggman ship as a fan for 19 years where for most of that time it was rare for him to be shipped with anyone, let alone considered gay. It's nice there's been a shift, all I can ask for is for more with gorgeous game design Eggman!

To answer your second question, it may be pretty obvious now with this post alone and one glimpse at my blog that my favorite version is none other than game Eggman! XD

Both the beautiful modern and classic designs, in every single game and era from beginning to present and future, as he's the exact same guy I know and love across time in all. I'm actually not a fan of most of the versions in non canon adaptions and ones I do like are determined by how alike to the games they are. He's the first one I got to know and love and he'll always be the best!

He was my introduction to the series and he's so handsome, funny, and evil, three most important things about his character that made me fall in love with him. He's always so consistently entertaining and captivating in his characterization in all the games too. I've adored him for 19 years and almost no other version has came close to the passion and adoration he makes me feel

And he's so gorgeous all the time, from his adorable spherical classic design to his sexy egg shaped daddy modern design. He has reached absolute peak perfection in the source! 🥰

The Hashira trying to befriend a new Hashira reader that is a Phantom Breath User. She likes to make creepy dolls and talk about morbid dark things to people. She's not trying to be scary on purpose that's how she interacts with people. Often inviting people to walk around old gravesites with her.

She also has the ability of mediumship. She can see and talk to the dead/ghosts. This is what she looks like.

You were certainly... Different. You hum scary tunes under your breath and make these creepy dolls in your free time. On top of that, you have a habit of saying the most morbid things there were with a smile on your face...

"Sometimes dead speak louder than any living person there is."

"We aren't alone."

"We haven't known for long but I'm glad you aren't dead."

"Don't worry, even if you die, I will still be your friend."

It didn't help that when you spoke, you would stare straight into people's eyes, unblinking like an owl, or that you kept smiling no matter what you said.

"I see why your Haori is precious to you... You must be loved dearly," You smiled at Giyu who frowned instead.

"I can sense deep love between you two," You smiled happily as you looked at Mitsuri and Obanai who were standing before you, "I hope even death won't tear you apart."

"I understand that you had a rough upbringing," You said to confused Tengen, "But I'm happy you are now happy and free."

"You're so loved, Rengoku, I'm a little jealous," You nodded as you passed Kyojuro and the man blinked in confusion before looking after you.

"I see you are rather popular, Shinazugawa. You must be happy." You nodded with a smile before you focused back on making your doll and Sanemi frowned. What the fuck was that supposed to mean?

"Your sister is very proud of you," You nodded at Shinobu, "I'm rather jealous."

"You've grown a lot. I hope you know just how much your brother really loves you," You told to Muichiro who blinked, confused as to what just happened.

"You've lost so much..." You looked at Gyomei, "But you're still dearly loved."

At first, they are all tense around you due to your way of speaking and acting like you know them better. They might even think you're making fun of them or those they lost by putting words in their mouths.

There will be tense moments between you all and no one really wants to pair up with you unless they have to... And then they learn that you aren't mean or rude on purpose, you are just REALLY bad with humans... Or at least living ones, like you would say.

Giyu - "She knows a lot of private things I haven't told anyone... And I can't understand how...?"

Mitsuri - "She is a little weird, but I'm sure she means well! She made these cute dolls for all of us!"

Obanai - "She can say anything she wants about me, but she better keep her mouth shut and not upset Mitsuri!"

Tengen - "She is a beauty, but she has awful people skills."

Kyojuro - "Hm! She is a very bright person but a little weird! Not that I mind, but others can have a hard time understanding her!"

Sanemi - "What the Hell she meant by telling me I'm popular!? Is she mocking me!?"

Shinobu - "I understand that she has a hard time getting along with people, but she has to think a little before she speaks. Otherwise, she is a very kind person who means well."

Muichiro - "My... Brother...? How did she know...?"

Gyomei - "Namu Amida Butsu... She has her heart in the right place, but she can say upsetting things without meaning to..."

When asked why you prefer walking around the cemeteries, you replied with a smile that you felt like you were never alone when among the tall gravestones.

If there is a grave, no matter whose grave, where it is, or how badly it's built, you stop by them to pray and pay your respect for the dead. This is your habit which you don't break for any reason.

When you gift the Hashira a doll you made, they are a little creeped out by the hanging ghost dolls. They might think you may try to put a curse on them, but you explain that the dolls are there to bring them joy, luck, and sunny days so they keep them around.

You don't enjoy killing, but you understand that by taking Demon's life you can save hundreds of human lives. Hell, in some cases, it may even be mercy for Demons.

While living people may be creeped out or put off by you, dead people and spirits enjoy your company and are always willing to aid you when out there hunting. Sometimes they whisper in your ear what to say when you're around the living, but this may backfire.

You try your best to be there for the dead so they won't feel lonely, even if they insist that you need to pay more attention to living people, but it can be tricky when you lack people skills.

Thankfully, there are people like Mitsuri, Gyomei, and Kyojuro who understand your struggles and go out of their way to get to know you better and help you hone your skills. In return, you promise, no matter what, that you will always be their friend.

Seriously. I get lot of people just not a fan of Will or Solangelo. -And id myself much rather have had a lone Will book- But some of y'all are extreme about it.

Never like when people get that extreme about not liking something or a character that they're asking for death of a character who really don't deserve it.

Especially those who's part reasonings for not liking something is ship related. Like I'm not a complete fan of Canon Will and Solangelo(like said before, fanon is carrying them), but they're not terrible or unhealthy in the books. It's just Will is written as only Nico's boyfriend with only hints of his actual character outside of that that tends to erk me.

But I know lot people talking about Will dieing or Solangelo breaking up don't really care about Will's characterization not being at its full potential. They either don't like Will at all, or prefer another Nico ship and could care less about Will.

And we see this a lot with other Canon ships too. Usually more with straight ships, but that's mainly cause that's most of the canon ships hdgd

People who belittle Chris (or I've seen a couple even demonize him?) To put more favor for Ruegard, (or heck, I've seen more fics for Clarisse/ Silena/ Charles then with Charissena- so think people just don't care for him-)

People who demonize either Percy and Annabeth in favor of another ship with them

I can't remember off top of my head any but I'm sure people demonizing Piper or Jason in favor of other ships proberly there too.

And this is no hate on those non canon ships- but it just feels so wierd how some with twist characters into being terrible or abusive, or sometimes unintentionally making character in their ship seen pretty bad by getting them upset over something small the other did in canon. (Like, with Chris, I've seen some make it seem he was terribly wrong for agreeing with Percy about Clarisse needing to stay in the fight??? As if Silena didn't do the same thing trying to get her to join the fight??? Neither were wrong- and it more just makes Clarisse look bad and hypocritical.)

Not liking a ship or character is fine. But hating it to an extent you want so bad for one the characters to be ooc terrible,abusive or die???

Just don't make sense to me. Much more healthy ways to write your ship getting together instead of a Canon ship.

I've seen people write Caleo break up better then some y'all write percabeth or Solangelo breakups. And their relationship is one the most unhealthy in canon!! Shows it can be done!!!

So, when I'm finished with Smoke and Mirrors, I'm thinking about finally sitting down and writing out Little Lion Man, aka the alternate universe in which Late is placed. It features Vincent/Veld, Sephiroth Valentine, a non-hateful deconstruction of Vincrecia, a coup d'etat, body horror, slice of life—the whole shebang, basically. It's more involved, and the whole concept is over a decade old, but I think I've got it outlined to a point that it's feasible. It'll take longer than Smoke and Mirrors (which was meant to be a long oneshot and just spiraled out of control) and my biggest concern is that it's very...niche, I guess?

There really aren't a lot of VinVeld shippers out there—I'm one of the first English speakers to have shipped it, one part of a group of three that fell into it at the same time, and the only part of that group that is still active in the fandom. I know for a fact that I posted deviantART's first VinVeld fanart ever, way back in 2005. I gave the ship it's current name, forcibly dragging my friends away from calling it Vineld because why. They're my actual One True Pairing, above all the others. If I had to pick one ship to see really and solidly and undeniably canonized, it wouldn't be Sephesis or Strifentine or Valenstrifesodos—it would be VinVeld.

I'm less active in portraying them in recent years because the people I used to RP and draw and write with are either no longer active in the fandom, no longer in my life, or both. And that's the biggest issue: I don't do exceptionally well without feedback because have The Ancestral Curse, and this whole concept is so niche that I worry I'd just leave it unfinished forever, like every other FF7 longfic I've ever started.

It's...probably my favorite canon divergent AU that I've ever played in. I'd really like to share it with the world rather than keeping it relegated to snippets and random doodles, but I don't know. Would anyone actually read it?
