If Glee did a Taylor Swift Tribute Episode...
Just my opinions, feel free to add on to them. I know I have some fellow gleek swifties following me. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Obviously they have to do some of the hits but I think some people would have some out of the box picks.
*This post assumes all Taylor songs are available to choose from as of May 14th 2021 but focuses on Taylor’s first 6 albums (if you want more glee and Taylor I have fics with that; LOVER and FOLKLORE) and takes liberties with where this episode’s placement is in terms of canon. But since it’s all made up anyway who cares (but Blaine’s involved so I guess season 3 idk).*
Okay, trying to do a full plot here (completely inspired by @kurtdeservesbetter head canon posts. I hope this lives up to her fabulous posts). This will be my version of glee so everyone gets solos and Rachel can’t hog the spotlight. Also, this is about to be super long (both post wise and episode wise).
Let’s open the first episode with
...Ready For It because the New Directions are in their reputation era. Santana does the opening cough centerstage. Everyone in black and/or camo green outfits (can you just see Kurt in a dark green bedazzled snake jacket, Santana in a black leather dress, and Tina digging out some goth clothes for people to borrow?), snakes everywhere, but probably no Karyn (she just wouldn’t fit on the auditorium stage). Santana takes the first verse but we have Blaine step up for verse 2. (I just love their friendship in the Michael tribute, cute little badasses are BACK. Also him singing “Burton to this Taylor” is such a Klaine thing to do).
Everyone is still dressed in their rep outfits but we’re in the choir room now. Mr. Schue is talking about why Taylor had to disappear and clap back with rep, how rough the industry is for women and tries to uplift the ladies in the room and encourage them to not silence their voices (cue snarky comment from Santana about Rachel needing to be silent).
Then, Mr. Schue goes on about how you can only understand how Taylor got to her rep era by studying her earlier music. So we have a performance of Tim McGraw. Simple, front of the choir room performance, maybe Puck does guitar, and sitting on stools.
Everyone is surprised to find out how pumped Sam is for this assignment but he is all over it. “It's about time we did some country in this room.” Cue Sam and Quinn at her locker talking about their ‘date’ last night, Sam’s all cute and teasing and Quinn is not into it. She tells him it was fun but she was wrong, they shouldn’t do this again. In turn, he does a wonderful performance of Bye Bye Baby. He thought it was more but clearly he’s “a part of her past.”
Then, we’re in the empty choir room. Tina and Mike are there. (I love their cutesy duets) They sing Everything Has Changed and it’s utterly adorable. Can’t you hear Mike asking Tina if she’s “good to go” like Ed does? And while we’re on the subject of cute duets and RED, we flash to the courtyard to see Santana and Brittany. They turn Stay Stay Stay into a duet. “I’ve been loving you for quite some time,” “before you I only dated self-indulgent takers who took all their problems out on me,” “no one else is gonna love me when I’m mad, mad, mad,” and “it’s occurring to me that I’d like to hang out with you for my whole life” it’s perfect for them. Adorable ladies kisses are had.
Let’s toss in some boy drama for fun. Idk shit about football but somehow Puck is praised by their coach over Finn, which gets him all pissy, and Puck’s upset and jealous because Finn is back with Quinn now (this is why Quinn shut Sam now earlier, she changed her mind). Can we say duet of Bad Blood? “So if you’re coming my way...just don’t.”
After their dramatics, we have a Brittany solo in the choir room. It’s after school at this point (or whenever glee club is). Brittany does You’ll Always Find You Way Back Home.
When she finishes Mr. Schue tries to explain that it’s a Hannah Montana song. Britt injects that it’s confusing how she’s really Miley Cryus “like how can you be two people at once?”. Before Mr. Schue can continue, Kurt pipes up “you never specified that the songs had to be sung by Taylor Swift, just that they were her songs.” Mercedes adds, “yeah, Mr. Schue, Taylor wrote that song.” Mr. Schue concedes that he has once again been outwitted by Kurtcedes. The friends do their little hand shake thing.
With a sigh, Mr. Schue asks Mike if he’s ready to go and Mike asks to take things to the auditorium for some dancing room. Everyone’s on stage with him and it’s kind of a group number but Mike is the focus. It’s Shake It Off. All inspired by the music video. He’s tried to fit in elsewhere (i.e. football, with the smart kids, etc..) but he’s really himself in glee when he’s dancing.
Part 2 of Taylor Tribute Episodes
We begin with an ALL GIRL NUMBER of A Place In This World. Just because.
Glee is dismissed and we zoom in on Artie. He’s watching Tina with Mike and Brittany with Santana. Both Tina and Britt have broken his heart by this point. So, he’s rolling down the halls singing A Perfectly Good Heart. While Artie’s soloing, we cut to Rachel watching Finn and Quinn chatting. Artie’s song playing over this scene. Rachel is feeling similar to him at the moment.
She’s pretty sure Finn dumped her to be with Quinn again even though Kurt and Blaine told her they saw Quinn and Sam at the movies last night together making out in the back row. Fine, if that’s how he’s going to be, she doesn’t need him anyway. Cue Mr. Perfectly Fine. Uber dramatic solo performance walking around McKinley’s halls watching Finn and Quinn together ending in the auditorium alone. (see what I did there, both broken hearted peeps singing a song with Perfectly in it (this was not at all planned, actually, happy accident))
After some good old heartbreak, we have Kurt and Blaine on screen. Blaine walks into the auditorium to see Kurt sitting on the edge of the stage. “What’s all the fuss?” he asks from the door. Kurt had texted him “EMERGENCY.” The band starts to play and Kurt just starts singing, Enchanted. It’s time to profess their love for each other, just like they sing Perfect together in the car, this duet needs no audience. Blaine catches up and sings while walking towards his boyfriend. It’s very reminiscent of past New Directions competitions where they come in from the back and make their way to the stage. “Wondering if you knew I was enchanted to meet you?” Kurt and Blaine both know the answer to that question now but just a few months ago they were both wondering that exact thing.
They kiss before we cut to Kurt and Blaine walking hand in hand into the choir room where everyone else is already. Mr. Schue is praising the performances thus far and of course asks Rachel if she’s ready to solo (some practice for her completion solo). This causes an uproar from Mercedes and Santana. Another classic argument of how she gets too many solos. Mr. Schue tries to shut them both down but Santana tells Rachel to watch her back, and we get three very different reactions to this.
All three girls storm out.
First, we visit Mercedes alone in the courtyard. This solo is all about being hurt over this great thing in her life (glee) and her being denied happiness within that club. Thus, Cold As You. (mostly to indulge myself because she’d blow us away with this song).
Next, Rachel in the auditorium. A huge bridge on stage (very Speak Now Tour of her), belting out Better Than Revenge. Santana’s dropped the last straw (the humiliation, name calling, Finn at one point and now solos,) it’s too much this time.
And finally, Santana walking around McKinley, showing us flashes of Rachel ‘outshining’ her and the rest of glee and Mr. Schue being unfair, while singing Look What You Made Me Do.
Tina walks out at the same time as Rachel, Mercedes, and Santana but no one seems to put two and two together. She feels just as underutilized as the latter two do. She ends up in an empty classroom and sings The Outside. “Nobody ever lets me in” and “on the outside looking in.”
Once the 3, err 4, divas have left the room, Finn sticks up for Rachel. Quinn, of course, has something to say about this along the lines of “you always defend her.” Finn, intimated by her ‘scary Quinn’ fumbles and blurts “because she’s my girlfriend” WHICH IS NOT TRUE AT THIS POINT. Quinn dumps him on the spot, cuts quickly to Blaine and Kurt sharing some ‘oh my god, can you believe this’ expressions, and vanishes from the room.
By this point, Rachel is long gone from the auditorium but the bridge is still there.
Here’s where we go way off script but imagine, Quinn has decided to just quit boys. They’ve all failed her anyway, she’s better off being alone. She walks up the bridge and thinks to herself “god Rachel’s so dramatic, where did this thing even come from” before it hits her “fuck, I’m as bad as Finn. I want her.” Then, she starts singing Clean to herself in the auditorium, likely tearing up throughout and ending with a good cry. (Because Dianna would DELIVER with Clean.)
While Quinn is having a sexuality crisis, the rest of glee is still happening. They’re discussing upcoming competition and debating solos and songs.
Kurt’s all: “Mr. Schue, if I may” and performs a lovely rendition of Call It What You Want. Those opening lines are too good. “My castle (ie McKinley) crumbled overnight, brought a knife to a gun fight (ie couldn’t fight off Dave Karofsky), “I’m doing better than I ever was ‘cause my baby’s fit like a daydream,” and “at least I did one thing right.” When he’s done, Blaine’s a mess in the back of the choir room, and Mr. Schue says: “not really what we’re looking for but very nice, Kurt” however, Kurt’s too busy sitting beside Blaine teasing him about blushing.
Then, the missing girls return to the room having sung out their emotions. Quinn, having realized her feelings for Rachel, ends up soloing You Belong With Me to the New Directions in the choir room. Odd looks all around, no one knows what’s up with her and why does she keep glancing at Rachel? (Faberry just fit so well I had to add it, don’t know if I’m a shipper or not but it’s here now) (also thanks to @spicygemini for pointing out the obvious “Quinn would have ate YBWY”).
Mr. Schue wants to move the group to the audition to perform their final number of the Taylor Swift tribute well but Tina asks to sing first. He’s surprised but allows it, taking a seat with the rest of the New Directions.
Tina sings Beautiful Ghosts. “Watch from the dark, wait for my life to start” because New Directions is refusing to use her talents AGAIN. She’s singing this to Rachel and the girls who were in the Treble Tones. Because she absolutely SMASHES this number, the glee kids agree she gets solo for their next competition (and they deliver on that promise).
To conclude Part 2 of the Taylor tribute episode, we have a group performance of Long Live. “One day we will be remembered”, “all the years we stood there on the sidelines wishing for right now”, “for a moment a band of thrives in ripped up jeans got to rule the world” ie wining completions, “when they look at the pictures please tell them my name...”
#this took so long please enjoy it#Taylor tribute glee episode#glee head canon#gleek swifie#glee#taylor swift

"Taylor, I need a massive favour.” Charlie gasped out, entering the room in a rush, his daughter in his arms. Taylor looked up from the piece of paper where he was studying the chords for Now or Never.
“Yeah what’s up?” He questioned.
“Can you look after Margaux for like 20 minutes? I’ve got one more scene to shoot and Tori and Sav are already gone.” Charlie said quickly, and Taylor nodded.
“Of course man, no problems.” He agreed, and Charlie gave him a thankful smile, placing Margaux down on the ground in front of Taylor and kissing the top of her head.
“She’s gonna cry, just distract her. Good luck. Bye baby!” Charlie called as he rushed back out of the room.
Taylor stared down at the two year old, watching as her face fell when she realised her dad had left her behind. He had only met her once before and it wasn’t for very long, and the toddler had just clung to her father the whole time. This was his first time properly interacting with the little girl.
“Hi Margaux, my name is Taylor, do you remember me?” He said softly, crouching down next to the two year old. She ignored him, still staring at the door that Charlie had left through, tears beginning to stream down her face.
“Hey, don’t cry.” Taylor soothed, reaching out to rub her back, not wanting to overstep with the clearly emotional toddler.
“Want Daddy.” She cried. Taylor bit his lip.
“He’ll come back soon.” He tried, but Margaux shook her head.
“Now.” She whined, her bottom lip jutting out.
“He’s busy sweetie, why don’t we go get a snack or something?” Taylor tried. Charlie did say to distract her. Margaux nodded tearily, and Taylor hesitated.
“Can I pick you up?” He asked gently.
Margaux nodded again and Taylor stood back up before leaning down, lifting the tiny blonde toddler into his arms. Her face instantly went to his neck and he flinched slightly at the feeling of her tears and heavy breathing. Distraction time.
“Do you like chocolate cake Margaux? Maybe we should go find some.” He questioned as he pushed the door open. Margaux sniffled.
“I like it.” She mumbled.
“You like it? That’s good, me too!” Taylor said, his tone overly enthusiastic, trying to cheer the two year old up.
Margaux hummed slightly and Taylor paused, listening, trying to figure out what she was singing. When he couldn’t identify the tune he decided to ask.
“What are you singing?” He questioned softly.
“Butterfly.” Margaux answered, sniffling slightly.
“I don’t know that one, can you sing it for me?” Taylor asked, and Margaux shook her head.
“Daddy sing it.” She stated.
“Your Daddy sings it for you?” Taylor checked, and Margaux nodded.
“Yeah.” She said.
Taylor entered the catering tent, spotting the table covered in tea cakes instantly.
“Here we go, do you want a cake?” He asked, heading over to the table.
Margaux nodded slightly, lifting her head out of his neck to look at the table, her eyes red and nose running.
“Which one?” He asked, and Margaux pointed to a chocolate cupcake.
“This one?” Taylor picked it up and she nodded again, taking the cake from him with a mumbled thank you. Grabbing himself a cake too, two juice boxes and a few tissues to wipe her nose and in case of a mess, Taylor carried the toddler back out of the tent, knowing exactly where to take her.
“We’re gonna go for a walk, okay?” He told her.
“Okay.” Margaux replied simply.
“What’s your favourite colour?” Taylor asked, trying to keep the toddler from thinking about her dad. Margaux squinted.
“Purple.” She decided after a moment.
“I love purple too.” Taylor agreed.
“And pink and blue.” Margaux added, and Taylor smiled to himself at the added interaction. He might be getting through to her.
“Very pretty colours.” He said. Margaux nodded.
“What ice cream?” Margaux mumbled.
“What’s my favourite ice cream?” Taylor asked.
“Yeah.” She replied.
“Tiger tail, do you know what that is?” He told her and she shook her head.
“No.” She said.
“It’s black liquorice and orange flavour.” He explained, and Margaux gave him a blank look. Taylor chuckled to himself.
“I like chocolate ice cream as well.” He said, and her eyes lit up.
“I like chocolate and strawberry and rainbow.” She smiled, and Taylor mentally cheered that she seemed to finally be coming around to him.
“Those are some very good flavours.” He agreed. He stopped at a bench that overlooked the main road outside the studio, sitting down on the chair and shifting Margaux onto the seat. She wriggled, moving herself so that she was sat in his lap, and Taylor smiled.
“Can I wipe your nose?” He asked, and Margaux stayed still in response, allowing him to wipe her damp cheeks and nose.
“Much better.” He said once he was done and she smiled up at him, a smile that made her look almost identical to her father. “Do you want some juice?”
“Yes please.” She said, taking a juice box from him and sipping on it instantly.
Taylor started to eat his cake, and when Margaux was finished hers he offered her the remainder of his, which she ate happily.
Taylor’s phone vibrated in his pocket and he pulled it out, seeing that it was a message from Charlie saying that he was done already.
Taylor texted back that he would meet him where Charlie left them, and moved to lift Margaux back up again.
“Where we going?” She asked as Taylor threw their rubbish into the bin.
“Your Daddy is done now so we’re going back to him.” He said.
“Daddy?” She exclaimed, her eyes lighting up. Taylor nodded and Margaux squealed with excitement, as if she had been separated from Charlie for days and not around 20 minutes.
They walked back in mostly silence, Margaux squirming out of his arms to run over to Charlie when she spotted him, and the young father lifted her up, kissing her head gently.
“Did you have fun?” He asked, just as Taylor made it over to them.
Margaux nodded.
“We got cake!” She grinned. Charlie fake gasped and Margaux giggled.
“You got cake without me?” He asked, pretending to be upset. Margaux laughed harder.
“Yeah!” She exclaimed, and Taylor couldn’t help but smile at the interaction.
Charlie turned his attention to Taylor, smiling at the older boy.
“Was she good?” He asked. Taylor nodded.
“She cried a lot but once we got cake and juice she was fine. We had a good chat and watched some cars and then we came back.” He told him. Charlie gave him a small smile.
“Thank you, she’s not the easiest to leave. Her whole life it’s just been me and her so she doesn’t really cope well with me leaving her. We’re working on it and she’s actually gotten a lot better, if you can believe that.” He explained.
“Well she did good today. Actually, she was singing herself a song, if that’s important at all. I asked her what it was and she just said butterfly, and that you sing it.” Taylor said.
Charlie nodded in understanding, clearly knowing what song Margaux had been singing.
“It’s the butterfly fly away song from the Hannah Montana movie. I sing it to her when she gets too worked up. I’ve never heard her try to sing it herself before so that’s a new one.” He glanced at the toddler, who was already falling asleep in his embrace. “Anyways we should go, Owen’s waiting. Thanks again Taylor.”
“Anytime.” Taylor nodded.
And he meant it.

The industry reflected on television
This is a translation of the post x made by @larryisinlove and @faithinrainbows
On many multiple occasions through the media around us we have read or heard a lot of people talking about the reality that the music industry faces and a lot of their aspects that we may not notice at a first look. However, we can see that a variety of TV programs (many of them released for younger audiences) gave us some kind of hints or messages on many chapters they present to us. Chapters which show us the reality artists face in the world of music industry.
Let's start by talking about the Disney series, "Hannah Montana." In the episode (3x10) we can see the protagonist of the series, Miley, dressed as the teenage pop star Hannah Montana along with a famous boy named Austin Rain, who claims to be her partner to the photographers and the media.
At first we see them united showing themselves in front of the cameras, but the reality behind it is that the relationship was only created to promote their song together called "Us Isn’t Us Without You."
We are also going to mention the moment when one of the most famous series for children created by Nickelodeon, a very recognized television network, tried to make a reference ( more like a parody in my opinion) to a massive TV network we all have seen in the past which is Disney Channel. In one episode called “The Dingo Channel” they talk about a channel called “Dingo Channel” tried to copy the structure of the web channel protagonist the series iCarly and the way that channel was run in that period of time. We can see it as a satire the way some of the rumors Disney Channel and their creator were involved in. They qualified Disney basically like a network with little originality.
It is interesting to see how certain topics are presented as a joke, such as wars between television networks. Or how the protagonists go from making a channel on the internet to making it to television, but little by little they find big changes that the production wants to introduce, among them, change to the protagonists, and other modifications that culminates with a different program to the original.
The third program to mention is another from Disney, "Gravity Falls" (1x17). They present to us a band called "Sev'ral Timez", and the protagonist is a fan of them. So, together with her friends, they decide to attend one of their concerts.
At the end of this, the girls are curious to know what is behind when the group disappears, so they go behind the scenes without anyone seeing them, to find various capsules. Inside them you could see the same boys, in different sizes, and the band in a large cage, as if they were animals. According to them, their manager keeps them safe that way.
You can see how the series wanted to demonstrate what happens many times in the industry, wanting to create perfect bands or artists, who manage to sell their image to their fans.
We go on to see what the fourth program presents, in Austin & Ally (Third season-episode 22). One of the Disney series that most thematically refers to the life of an artist in terms of their experiences or events they experience at such a young age is without a doubt Austin & Ally. Several things have been mentioned in relation to the life and growth that an artist has in this episode, exemplifying the main characters of this series. In addition to having their typical Disney touch that characterizes them, it also shows how the characters develop their personalities in the artistic environment and in the world of the music industry.
A clear example in this particular episode called "Relationships and red carpets" that draws a lot of attention at the moment of analyzing it, is to see how Austin and Ally prepare for an awards event, they have been nominated in the same category and would basically come to mean the big moment of the beginning of their careers as pop stars. They planned to announce their relationship to the public eye, but something happens that caught a lot my attention and that is something not far from reality is that Jimmy (owner of the record company in which Austin signed) prohibits him to make his relationship something public with the clarification that it would not be a good thing for his image and that what he wants to sell with Austin is something for teenagers who will eventually buy his music and have that fantasy of being able to go out and date that star, that star he wants to turn him into. He explains openly that this will make him sell more albums in the future. In this episode Austin and Ally try to make their relationship a secret with the purpose of showing Jimmy that they can deal with this. They even deny their relationship to the press at the award ceremony, but they realize that it is not easy at all. Austin risks his career at the cost of it by telling everyone he is dating Ally. This tells us that maintaining an image for sales is too important, it shows us that these things are not taken easily.
As a consequence Austin is unable to release music in any ways for the next 10 years due to the power that his label presents over his music by certain contracts that are mentioned in a basic way in the series.
The next show belongs to Nickelodeon, "Victorious." In this series we find a rather peculiar chapter, within this we see in a developed way how they ask teenagers to send videos showing their skills in music, and with that they achieve a career. The person who did these auditions was a man named Mason, and particularly he is British, with great power in the industry.
The winner of the contest is Tori, the protagonist of the series, who is summoned to a confidential meeting in order to talk about her future. She happily goes with the idea that she should only sing and be her, to which they respond "Your image does not sell, so we are going to create a new one for you", something that we know happens a lot. And they put a condition on it. They tell her that she can't tell anyone about her control over her image, not even her friends. This is how they put wigs on her, flashy clothes, and invent an insolent personality in addition to rumors that generated controversy, among them, causing a stir in restaurants in front of many people.
To finish, we are going to present what the movie Starstruck tells us, the life of a superstar and a girl he meets throughout the plot. In this film we see how this artist handles the moments in which he is told what to do to clean up the image he has a little and get more opportunities as an actor, he must keep himself out of the public eye, and obey everything they tell him to do or say and be cautious with whom he hangs out because of recent problematics he has had.
Basically this film, apart from touching the typical Disney theme of a love story, shows how this star tries to handle this fight in which he is constantly told what to say to the media or the people around him and also shows the way in which the media greatly influence the image of this artist. You can see the behavior of Christopher, the protagonist, at the time of making decisions in order to take care of his own image with the purpose of getting the role he wants to play, all this starts as it is usual from a recommendation that his manager gave him, therefore this idea does not come out of his mind and sporadically says or does things that make the girl he has a romantic interest in feel disappointed because she doesn't like the person that this star tries to be reaching a point of collapse due to all the hate and harassment by journalists which falls into it as a result of things the star said in order to clean its own image. Jesssica, played by the well-known Danielle Campbell, gets tired of having constant harassment by the press, which was waiting for her to say something about the relationship of this normal girl with the big star Christopher is. She decides to give a speech that allows us to understand the intentions that these media require, to sell an artist and sell articles or magazines at the cost of freedom, privacy and quality as a person. (This is highly ironic). The star reconsiders and thinks that the best thing to do is to start taking control of his image and his life and decides to leave his opportunities as an actor and tell his parents who in a way were in charge of taking care of his image that they are fired and he wants to be himself.
As we could see in the examples mentioned above, and in many more that were not named, there are series or films that contain episodes in which they will give us examples or clues, some more direct than others, about the management around the artists in the middle.
It is not unusual that there are so many examples, and so many similarities between them, or with what one already knows, hears, or reads.
The objective of this post is to imply that it is no secret what companies or managers do with their artists, the changes in appearance and personality, transform them completely, or even invent lives that they do not have. These chapters, or scenes that we name, are a step forward to show publicly what happens, and that the affected people cannot come out to say it.

@thvndcrstrvck asked: ultimate relationship tag for mars & teyani :~)
relationship tag*
*only accepting for established ships. (domo gets a pass bc i luv them <3)
disagreements.
who is more likely to raise their voice? — i feel like they do an equal amount of voice raising. the only real difference is that i feel like mars is more loud in tone & the type to go “i’m not yelling!!!!!” whereas teyani’s yelling takes on more of a stern tone. who threatens to leave but never actually does? — mars, prbly. who actually keeps their word and leaves? — teyani. she absolutely served him papers while he was at work. who trashes the house? — nobody, tf? they’re too old for that shit. do either of them get physical? — i...would think not. because teyani is extremely passive & if mars would’ve tried it, she would have left earlier. so no. how often do they argue / disagree? — it prbly wasn’t often in the beginning of their relationship, but one of those “when it happens it’s messy” type of arguments. now, best believe it’s an argument every two hours as their relationship is incredible strained. who is the first to apologize? — teyani.
sex.
it’s me having no idea what their sex life is like bc we haven’t plotted out this far, #help. they did the do until they no longer liked each other, now they don’t.
family.
we also didn’t plot out this far. but i mean, teyani having her daughter is canon so she and ines were/are a package deal (like was she pregnant before this relationship??? after??? was ines already born??? chile, idk.) and i’m sure mars was cool with helping her while they were together. mmcht.
affection.

He Could Be The One → Victarcy
TAGGING → Darcy Weselton & Victory Westergaard
TIMELINE → Sunday, September 10
SETTING → Walt Fest
SUMMARY → Darcy and Victory check off one of life’s major milestones during Hannah Montana’s set at Walt Fest.
Darcy couldn't believe the weekend was over so soon and that school was just around the corner. Junior year... everyone kept saying it was a big one, but as long as she had Victory with her, she doubted that she'd feel any different than she had every other year. Life was just better with a best friend to be with you through everything, and she turned to him with a big grin on her face as they waited in line for the final act of Walt Fest: Hannah Montana. "I'm bored," Darcy whined as she reached out to take both his hands in hers, raising them up to waist level and leaving them hanging here. "Play the hand slap game with me while we wait for this line to move," she insisted, not even giving him time to react as she placed her hands underneath his, using lightning fast reflexes to them flip hers over to lightly slap the top of his, indicating that the game had begun.
Victory was pretty good at being alone with his thoughts for one simple reason - it never actually felt like he was alone. He'd always been afraid of the quiet until he met Darcy Weselton, and since then it was like she was always in his head, even if they were both quiet and standing in line, for example, like they were right now. Victory got pretty impatient in lines, but like most other things, it was okay as long as he was with Darcy. He could almost feel the thought "I'm bored" move from her head out of her mouth in real time. "I'm not," he smiled back, his hands in the slap game position almost without his even noticing it. "But fiiiiiine." He drew the word out, mocking her whining, though he stopped flat when she landed the first strike. "Damn it," he muttered, looking up and into her eyes and trying to find the exact right moment to flip and slap - and missing entirely. "There's got to be something you aren't amazing at," he sighed, the corner of his mouth quirking up into a smile as he tried again.
Darcy quirked an eyebrow at Victory's comment; she loved being showered in attention, but praise from someone who knew her better than anyone was always her favorite because she knew it was real. "Well, sounds like we need to try something new tonight, then, and continue our search for something I'm bad at... but I mean, it's Walt Fest, we're probably just going to find something else we're awesome at." Using his moment of distraction to her advantage, tickling the palms of his hands from underneath for a second, then, like a flash she slapped his hands again. "Hopefully this line won't move until you get one in on me, you're not allowed to be grumpy during Hannah Montana!"
Victory shook his head at Darcy, amused. "Please. We could do everything in the world tonight and I'm pretty sure we'd just find more things you kick ass at." He felt the need to add something sarcastic or cutting after the compliment burst forth, to keep from sounding like he was just blowing smoke up her ass, but he was distracted again by the game and by another point against him. "You kidding? We're not gonna stop playing till I win, Hannah or no Hannah." He focused again on their hands, taking his time, trying to build the suspense. The idea to do something to distract her and win a point crossed his mind - for a brief second, he imagined leaning in as though he was going to kiss her and taking the moment to seize victory, but in the same instant he imagined it, he discredited the idea. Darcy wasn't going to be distracted by that, and besides, it was way too close to what his dad had done to Anna of Arendelle, as far as the stories went. More glad than ever that she couldn't actually read his mind, Victory took a breath and tried the hand thing again, managing to hit one of her hands while the other escaped, and at that second he thought he felt the line move. "Damn it, one more time."
Darcy pretended to gasp at his statement. "You'd skip Hannah Montana for a game that we play almost everytime I'm bored? Unless you're planning on deleting boredom from my life from this moment on, you better check that plan again!" Darcy giggled as her hands managed to outpace his through the air, though; he slapped one gently but the other eluded him, and she stuck her tongue out triumphantly, enjoying the rush of victory even against her best friend. "Okay, fine, you just keep going, though, I don't need any more turns, I already know I'm awesome, you're the one who needs extra," she taunted, holding her hands out and leaving them limp instead of alert, ready to let him hit them on purpose so that once he'd gotten his half a second of triumph, she could just grab his hands and start pulling him into the concert instead.
Victory rolled his eyes. "I'd skip Hannah for free. Beating you would just be a perk." He was mainly joking, Hannah Montana was one of the acts he was actually kind of excited to see tonight, not that he'd go blabbing about it to anyone but his best friend. His tongue stuck out almost immediately on reflex, and he vaugely wondered in the back of his mind how many times they'd taunted each other like this before. It was one of the few things in the world he'd never get tired of, that much he knew; every time felt just as fun as the first time, and the only way it got better was when he won. In his mind, his hands flashed at the speed of light to come down lightly on hers, and he was ready to claim ultimate victor rights for life, but then her hands closed around his and he knew she'd let him as she dragged him forward. "This isn't over, Weselton," he insisted, though he was completely fine letting her take control as they moved to settle in for a musical set of one of their faves. "In fact, rematch - Predictions. Which song do you think she'll sing first? Right answer gets bragging rights for life."
Darcy narrowed her eyes at Victory in a stink eye that she was sure he was well-versed in, then quickly burst into a fit of giggles. "Whatever you say, Fanboy," she called him out on his bluff, practically bouncing on the balls of her feet with anticipation as it drew closer to time for Hannah's set to start. "It's never over with us, Westergaard," Darcy reminded him as he let her take his hands, weaving her fingers between his to make sure that she didn't lose him in the crowd. He was a bigger target, easier to get caught up in a crowd anyway, and he wasn't nearly as quick and sneaky as she could be, but that was okay; Darcy always kept Victory right beside her and would never let him get lost. "In fact, if you ever try to end our friendship, I'll kick your ass, just warning you," Darcy pointed out as they finally made it into the performance area and she dropped his hands to stand by his side instead. She bumped his hip with hers, saying, "That's stupid, you shouldn't have let me pick first, you and I both know it's going to be 'Best of Both Worlds' but I got to claim it as my answer, sucks to be you."
Victory held her hands tighter as the crowd got thicker, not wanting to be separated. Hannah Montana might be one of the best acts he could imagine watching, but watching it without Darcy would be pointless. Who would he laugh with or make comb his hand with her fingers while he pretended not to mouth the words to 'If We Were a Movie'? He actually lost sight of her small blonde head a few times in the crowd, but as long as his hands were in hers, he was fine, they were fine. They got to the performance area and he shoved his hands in his pockets as soon as they were empty again. "You can't kick what you can't reach," he fired back, getting on his tip toes to make her look extra short besides him. He returned her hip bump and reached his hands up to his hair, pulling out his man bun and letting the hair flow. He ran a hand through it and laughed. "I know no such thing. I'm, like, a billion percent sure she's gonna start with Nobody's Perfect and you're going to look like a total Wesel-loser." He reached over for a moment and gave her shoulder a quick squeeze so that she knew he was kidding in case she didn't pick up on that, their little bets easy to put on the backburner as Hannah's band started warming up.
Darcy huffed indignantly, asking, "What do you think all my hurdles training has been leading to? I don't actually care about winning ribbons on the track team, I care about being able to jump-kick your butt at the perfect angle on the perfect occasion." Darcy jumped up into the air just enough to ruffle his hair affectionately; even though he'd known her long enough to know her insults were all in good fun, she still liked to remind him that her 'harsh' words were never serious, not where he was concerned. "Pffft, Nobody's Perfect? That's way more likely to be an encore song! Although come to think of it, if she's going to go with anything unexpected, I'm pretty sure she's done Rock Star as an opener before... damn, that's a good one, now I want that to be first, I've heard Best of Both Worlds enough." Losing her cool at the sound of the band starting, she reached out and squeezed Victory's wrist to keep from flailing. "We're really seeing Hannah Montana, oh my God, I can't believe this, this is so awesome! And we're so close to the stage, if you lift me up and start me body surfing, I could even end up there with her -- how long do you think it would take her to kick me off?" she asked, her voice dropping as the lights started to, and the concert neared its beginning.
Victory burst out laughing at the idea of Darcy run-hurdle-jumping at him. He didn't burst out laughing often but when he did, it was always because of Darcy. Damn Darcy. "Have I told you lately that you're crazy?" was all he could laugh in reply to her, his smile growing at the feel of her hand on his hair. He felt the urge to sit down besides her so she could play with it as the music went on, but he had to stay on his feet, had to rock out to Hannah the way that Hannah deserved. They could do that any day, but there was only going to be one Hannah Montana show, and it was right here, right now. He let out a breath as he remembered that Rock Star existed, nodding along with Darcy. "It's one of the best ones, she's gotta," he hoped, looking down to see Darcy's fingers close around his wrist. He was just as excited as she was, his insides feeling like a soda bottle that'd be shaken like crazy. "Well, that's one way to make tonight a night you'll never forget. Hannah seems like she'd be a good kicker, though. Try to keep her from getting rid of you for like fifteen seconds at least, that'll gimme time to get up to the stage and catch you," he joked, though he kinda hoped Darcy did it. The drums kicked in, though, and he forgot what he was saying as "It's All Right Here" began, and by the time the guitar kicked in he was already bouncing on the balls of his feet.
Darcy rolled her eyes fondly at him. "Only every other day, thanks," Darcy told him, her mind whirling as she evaluated the pros and cons or trying to end up on Hannah's stage... but in the end, she shook her head, admitting a rare defeat. "I've been waiting too long to get to see her live, I don't want to kick out," Darcy admitted seriously, although any worries about things she could do wrong or winning bets flew out the window as the opening chords to "It's All Right Here" played and Darcy let out a shriek of excitement, already waving her hands in the air and belting the lyrics that she knew by heart. With every song, her excitement only rose: as she turned to Victory and winked during 'If We Were a Movie', knowing how often they did the karaoke version at home together; as she jumped on Victory's back to get a better look at the stage when she slowed things down for more emotional ballads like 'Don't Wanna Be Torn' and 'Ordinary Girl', as she shook and shimmied and followed every single command Hannah chanted out during the Ice Cream Freeze. It was one of the most exciting things that had happened in her whole life, seeing one of her idols live, and beside her, she could tell Victory was having nearly as much fun. "She must be getting close to the encore," Darcy pouted, leaning into Victory and wrapping her arms around his middle for support. "I don't ever want this night to end, though."
Victory had known Darcy since he was a kid, and though they often got hype about random things just for fun, he didn't think he'd ever seen her this excited. It was effervescent and high energy and still totally Darcy, and totally endearing. He nodded along to the song as it went on, changing his tempo as the setlist flew by, and even singing along to "If We Were a Movie" which was even more fun along with Hannah than it was karaoke style, though if anyone but Darcy asked he'd swear up and down it was just lip-synching. It was dorky to fall into the waving a phone in the air while slow songs played, he knew, but it didn't matter, not really, not today. In fact, it was hard not to smile. Really hard. If Hannah killing it in the same space as them wasn't enough, seeing Darcy like this definitely was. He hugged his best friend around her shoulders leaned into him, letting out a sigh. "I think this might be the best night ever," he admitted in a low voice as the opening chords to "He Could Be the One" kicked in. Knowing they were getting towards the end, he decided to sing along for the last few songs, turning to Darcy after the first lines and winking.
Darcy was always energetic, but tonight was something truly extraordinary for her. Almost all of her favorite songs had played already, though, and Darcy could feel the night slipping away from her without anything else truly epic happening on top of the concert. This was a night Darcy wanted to remember forever - the way Hannah sounded live, the way Victory kept smiling at her like he was having almost as fun as she was, the way she felt like she could dance all night long without her body aching even just a little bit thanks to the adrenaline. She wanted to soak it all in, and as she shouted 'He Could Be The One' at the top of her lungs and saw Victory winking from beside her, an impulsive thought grabbed hold of her brain and told Darcy what she should do. "Hey, you know how we said we need to find something new to try tonight? Something I'll obviously be more awesome at than you?" Darcy asked, feeling surprisingly calm about what she wanted to do next even though most girls would be freaking out, overthinking, worrying about the future of their friendship afterwards... She didn't wait for Victory to answer her question, though; she let the words of the song flow through her as she stopped her singalong and instead pushed herself up onto tiptoes, confidently pressing her lips to Victory's for the first time in her life.
Victory found that, with the mix of his heart pounding in his ears and one of his favorite Hannah songs building in the background, he could barely hear Darcy as she spoke this time around. He leaned down just a little bit to try to make her out better, and once he caught the end, he understood the sentiment, but before he could answer the question or even acknowledge it, Darcy's lips were on his, and he swore the entire rest of the festival went dead quiet. He kissed back without hesitation, without questions, bringing his hands up to cup the sides of her face. It probably should've been weird, introducing kissing to their friendship when it wasn't something they'd ever done before, but it wasn't, not even a little bit. In fact, it kind of made everything make sense. He could feel his entire life coming together, and it felt like Darcy, all Darcy, right there in front of him taking up his air and his heart. He pulled back to catch his breath and wondered if he should say something but decided to go back in for seconds, hearing the music again now as it hit a crescendo.
Darcy had heard that first kisses could be awkward, or weird, or uncomfortable -- or even slobbery! But it turned out that hers wasn't any of those things. Darcy's was her just deciding that she was old enough now to turn to the boy she'd declared was going to marry her someday way back when they were five and kiss him, and then feeling an impossible surge of adrenaline, even when she'd thought she was already riding the highest of highs from the concert. She smiled against Victory's lips, amused by how eagerly he kissed back, like he'd just been waiting for the day that Darcy decided to go for it, and she was glad she had -- they'd always just fit, and she, at least, had always been sure this was a step they'd get to someday. "Now this is really the best night ever," Darcy laughed, letting Victory lean in for another kiss, but stopping it much shorter than the first had been. If she kept kissing him now, they'd get bored with it, or worse, they'd miss the rest of the concert, so instead she pressed one finger to his chest, teasing, "Trying it again isn't going to make you more awesome at it than I am, sorry, you like, predicted a self-fulfilling prophecy right at the start of the night, who are we to mess with fate?" she asked, sticking her tongue out at him to avoid the stupid smile that threatened to spread across her face when she realized there was more than one meaning to her words.
Victory could feel her smile against his mouth, and that was the best part, wasn't it? Darcy's smile. She smiled when she was being sweet, when she was being tough, and it had always kind of felt like her smile was enough for the both of them. He found her little ten-years-ago prophecy ringing in his ears, that he was going to marry her someday, and let the thought wash over him. It'd be cool with him. He let out a dopey smile at her teasing, sticking a tongue back out at her before his wits came back about him. "Finally," he gasped, acting like he was about to make a declaration of love. "Finally... I found something I'm better at than you. You can try to deny it but we both know it's true. It's written." His ears felt warm at the mention of the word fate but he didn't feel like being mushy right now. That wasn't really them. What was them, though, was rocking out to Hannah Montana, and so he grabbed Darcy's hand and spun her in a circle as Hannah reached the chorus.
Darcy wasn't hanging onto Victory's every word or waiting nervously for him to tell her that she was a good kisser, or that he liked her, or any of those things. She just knew, she'd just always known with Victory, even if she'd never been in a hurry to do anything about it before. Everything with them just fell into place when it was supposed to, it always had been that way, ever since they were little kids spending summers running around terrorizing the Southern Isles on her dad's trading trips. "Uh huh, keep dreaming, you can brag all you want, it doesn't mean I'm going to kiss you again now," Darcy laughed, seeing right through Victory's ploy. It may have been their first kiss, and it may have been electric and exciting and perfectly comfortable and right all at the same time, and it certainly wouldn't be their last, of that Darcy was sure... but right now, Hannah Montana only had her encore left, and Darcy spun with Victory, shrieking at the top of her lungs all over again when the music to 'Best of Both Worlds' started playing. "Wow, we totally guessed this one wrong, guess Hannah's just going to have to come back for a repeat next year! We'll do better then," she told him with a wink before she was singing at the top of her lungs again, dancing happily beside her best friend as if nothing had changed between them at all.

Now I See Daylight: Lover is Taylor Swift’s Brightest Glow-Up
I wrote a ~2,000 word review of Lover. I’m so proud of you @taylorswift buddy, and as someone who majored in literature, I always like to close-read and write about the art I appreciate. and I love love lover, and I hope you’ll like my review (skip to the last paragraph if it’s too long hehe). <3 @taylornation The musical event of my year transpired last night when Taylor Swift released her hotly anticipated 7th studio album, Lover. It’s Taylor’s 13th year in the game, my 11th year as a Swiftie, and we’ve both never been better. After dancing/crying/listening to Lover since last night, I’m finally ready to write my review of this triumphant, exuberant pop masterpiece.
It’s been a whirlwind past few months, from five holes in the fence to the star-studded, not-without-controversy YNTCD to the gorgeous title track that is “Lover.” As always, Taylor and her team have orchestrated a business-savvy album roll-out, complete with an elaborate, year-long, Easter Egg hunt. There is always much speculation about a Taylor Swift album, and a marketing campaign structured around clues is a smart way of creating the speculation, shifting listeners’ attention somewhere productive; in this case, re-watching the “ME!” music video over and over to catch all the eggs and amp up the video’s views. But to hear Lover in its entirety at the end of an Easter Egg journey is ultimately rewarding and intimate. “I am an architect, I’m drawing up the plans,” sings Taylor in “I Think He Knows.” The Lover era confirms her skills as a powerful architect; she builds speculation, constructs masterful bridges (she really went to “bridge city” with many songs on this album), and shows no signs of stopping.
The opening track, “I Forgot You Existed,” is an understated earworm that essentially bids the reputation era (and the Kimye drama of 2016) adieu. “It isn’t love, it isn’t hate, it’s just indifference,” Taylor shrugs. Vocally, the song has a colloquial quality; throughout, Taylor speaks, laughs, even trails off. It’s the equivalent of the throat-clearing that launched Track 1 of reputation, “Ready For It.” The first and essentially last song about “drama” on Lover, “I Forgot You Existed” clears the path for the 17 raw, emotional tracks to come.
The immediate next track, “Cruel Summer,” is an absolute pop-bop that immediately takes us to the higher register (Taylor in soprano-mode is sublime). It’s likely the next single (Tay teased the title in the YNTCD video and in a recent Amazon ad). This is the first song on the album that takes us to BRIDGE CITY—Tay practically screams “he looks up, grinning like a devil” in the bridge, and it’s amazing. We get to hear several New Taylor Sounds in this album, and it’s a lovely surprise each time. The trumpet(?) tease that opens “False God” and the way Tay sings “lo-o-o-o-ve” in the chorus prove that it’s all in the details. Structurally, the song staggers the lyrics in the chorus, such that each bleeds into the next (“Religion’s in your lips / Even if it’s a false god.” The religious imagery in Taylor’s past two albums is fascinating). Something similar happens, with even more syncopation (and brass!), in “It’s Nice to Have a Friend,” which is the grown-up, dreamier version of “Mary’s Song.” Speaking of the debut album, the way Taylor sings the bridge of “Cornelia Street” (“Barefoot in the kitchen…”) sounds just like the chorus of “Invisible.” Are these callbacks to her debut album coincidental? Knowing Taylor, likely not.
Indeed, many moments in Lover remind us that the old Taylor is far from dead, as she previously proclaimed in LWYMMD. "Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince” makes a direct reference to Tay’s song from the Hannah Montana movie (I looove “Crazier”), and in “Daylight” she sings that she used to think of love as being “burning red,” a lyric from “Red.” And Track 12 of Lover, “Soon You’ll Get Better,” is like Track 12 of Fearless, “The Best Day” (one of my all-time favs)—both are songs about Taylor’s mom, Andrea Swift, who is currently battling cancer. “Soon You’ll Get Better” is the album’s #1 tear-jerker, and features Andrea’s favorite band, The Dixie Chicks. It’s the closest thing to country on the album.
But on Lover, we are undeniably listening to a new Taylor who brings the storytelling traditions of country into the energetic world of pop. This Taylor writes about love from a stronger place of growth and self-confidence. You know that meme that goes, “I’m you but stronger”? That’s Lover to Taylor’s early discography. Tay’s confidence jumps out clearly in ME!, which was the first single Taylor released on 4.26 and honestly still one of my favorite tracks from the album (catch me yelling “HEY, KIDS! SPELLING IS FUN! on tour). I truly love Brendon Urie’s part in that song. Although “ME!”might have a reputation for being a “kids’ bop,” it channels a form of self-awareness that we also get on “Afterglow,” which is about a lover who understands her own flaws: “It’s all me, in my head.” Both “Afterglow” and “ME!” speak to the beauty and possibility of experiencing a storm with someone and recovering together afterwards, be it in the rain or in the light. It’s not just self-awareness that Taylor demonstrates on Lover, but also social awareness—this is the year she finally became vocally political, after all. “YNTCD” was her first LGBTQ anthem. Although some have accused Tay of “queerbaiting” (there’s always some flaw to pick out, isn’t there), the song is truly Taylor’s love letter as an ally to the LGBTQ community. Then there’s “The Man,” which slams the patriarchy by imagining a world in which Taylor is not a woman, but a man. “If I was out flashing my dollars I’d be a bitch, not a baller,” she sings. She also gives Leo Dicaprio a well-deserved roast; while Taylor’s dating life has received extensive scrutiny, tabloids don’t hate on “Leo in Saint-Tropez” the way they lambast Taylor for ‘serial-dating.’ “The Man” also sounds very much like HAIM’s “Forever” (“Dress” on reputation gave me HAIM vibes too). And I’ll forever stan Taylor x HAIM.
In Red, Taylor sings “Stay Stay Stay” to someone who later likely breaks her heart. Interestingly, the song on Lover that sounds like a musical echo to that track is “Paper Rings,” an adrenaline rush of a song about getting married. The song is another perfect 60s bop, and I love all the counting that happens in the song; it lyrically and spiritually channels the “you’re the only one I want” energy from Grease. “I like shiny things,” sings Taylor (we know) “but I’d marry you with paper rings.” And theother elephant-in-the-room song about marriage is of course “Lover,” which has literal wedding vows in its beautiful bridge. Of the three marriage-related songs on this album, “Lover” wins my heart (and it’s Taylor’s favorite song that she’s ever written, I hear). It’s a beautiful ballad that comes straight from the heart. Like the best Taylor Swift songs, it’s personal. We get straight to the time and place, like in “Cornelia Street,” the street on which Taylor used to live. In fact, the song’s melody seems to share the same musical pattern as “Delicate,” and some fans even speculate that the “third floor on the West side” from “Delicate” is on Cornelia Street. Another song is that is very location-specific is “London Boy,” which is a personal favorite for its allusion-heavy lyrics and catchy beat. I know that some Londoners are shaking their heads at the lyrics, but oh well—it’s a cute nod to Taylor’s current boyfriend of three years, Joe Alwyn, who (if you haven’t figured it out by now) is the inspiration behind many of the songs on this album. Another standout, should-be-a-single track is the aforementioned “Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince,” which demonstrates Tay’s exquisite, imaginative storytelling style and mastery of metaphor (“Getaway Car” was the masterful-metaphor song on reputation). I could really write a paper on these lyrics. The Guardian seems to think it’s about living in Trump’s America? It’s a song that, along with “The Archer,” is reminiscent of Lana Del Rey’s dreamy pop (although the latter, while lyrically lovely, has yet to totally grow on me). Taylor has long been outspoken about her love for Lana’s music (they also share a producer: the amazing Jack Antonoff). If this means that Taylor’s music is beginning to take on a slightly indie-rock quality, I’m not complaining. For instance, “Death by a Thousand Cuts” has a slightly Vampire Weekend-quality to it, especially with the freestyle piano tinkling that emerges towards the chorus. But it would be remiss for me to compare Taylor to other artists (although maybe this at least proves that I listen to other music hahahahahah). As she sings in “ME!”, she’s the only one of her(!), and Lover proves this to a T (see what I did there?). From the records it broke even before release day to the pop perfection we’re getting on every track, Lover is bold and brassy, and Taylor knows it.
A few months ago, Taylor wrote in an Elle listicle that she has learned to “step into the daylight and let it go.” That line has indeed revealed itself to be a lyric from the final track of Lover, “Daylight,” a 5-minute long song that beautifully closes the album. “I don’t wanna look at anything else now that I saw you,” sings Taylor to her lover. But she also ends with a monologue: “You are what you love.” For Taylor, to love someone is to also love yourself. And that message of self-love radiates throughout Lover.
Earlier this year, I read an article with the headline, “Sad Taylor Swift is the Best Taylor Swift.” While it’s true that artistic production does often come from places of suffering and heartbreak, Lover steps into the daylight and delivers songs on an album that is wonderfully bright. The album cover, shot by the talented Valheria Rocha, captures the softness and loveliness of this glow. In Lover, Taylor is not our heartbreak princess. And we don’t want her to be, either. She’s braver than “Fearless,” and she’s more than simply “Clean.” I’d like to argue that Taylor is at her best at her brightest, which is to say at her clearest and cleverest. She’s someone who shines, inside and out, in her music and in her life. The illuminating, skin-clearing grace that she delivers on Lover lights up my room. This review is glowing, and so is Lover.

Pokeaniweek Day 5
Favorite relationship.
I think we all know the answer to this. I have gushed more about Pokeshipping than literally any other thing in the universe (except maybe cupcakes, but none of you know that). I have spent most of my life trying to explain just how much I love them, with fics, with analysis and so many other things, that I wasn’t sure what to add today. So I have decided to share something I’ve been hoarding for decades.
My playlist.

It’s slightly embarrassing, it’s slightly dated, and it’s MASSIVE, so it’s going under a cut (in list form and with occasional commentary). But if you want to share in it, there are links. Enjoy!
My shorthand: RSG means “reverse singer gender” so the song is from the POV of Ash if a girl is singing or Misty if a guy is. (-) means the song is a fit for their relationship if it were to go negative
