3 Winning Snacks for the Anime Awards
It’s the best time of year – Anime Awards season! There are lots of things up in the air like: Who will win best boy? (Satoru Gojo please!) What about best couple? And what show will be crowned anime of the year?! While these answers will remain unknown until the big day, what you eat during the awards doesn’t have to be a mystery.
Here are 3 anime-inspired snacks for the show! Because what’s an awards show without HAIKYU!! TO THE TOP popcorn, Hime’s coffee cat donuts, and JUJUTSU KAISEN’s bacon-wrapped fingers.
JUJUTSU KAISEN “Fingers”
Yuji Itadori’s ravenous appetite for fingers unleashes the powerful King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna. With every finger consumed, Ryomen Sukuna grows stronger. Inspired by the fingers on the show, it only made sense to have some “fingers” as a snack. These little smoked sausages are wrapped in bacon and finished with a sticky sweet maple glaze. I can’t promise that they’ll protect you from curses, but it probably won’t hurt.
Maple Glazed Bacon Wrapped “Fingers” Recipe
Serves: 2-3 | Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients:
1 12-oz. package cocktail sausages
9 bacon slices
1/4 cup maple syrup
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
Pinch of salt
Directions:
Step 1
Cut bacon in half and slice each strip lengthwise into two or three pieces (depending on the width of the bacon). Set aside.
Step 2
Heat oven to 425°F degrees. Wrap each sausage with one slice of bacon. To avoid it unraveling in the oven, tuck both ends of the bacon onto itself or secure the ends with toothpicks.
Step 3
Place wrapped sausages on an aluminum foil-lined baking sheet. Cook until bacon begins to crisp and the sausages get some browning, about 15 to 20 minutes.
Step 4
While the sausages are cooking, prepare the glaze. Combine syrup, brown sugar, and spices in a medium measuring cup. Set aside.
Step 5
Remove sausages from oven once ready and take out toothpicks. Heat the broiler. Pour the glaze over the sausages and gently mix until each one is glossy.
Step 6
Cook in the broiler until the glaze thickens and begins to caramelize, about 3 to 5 minutes. Do not walk from the oven. Keep a close eye on it to avoid burning.
Step 7
Remove from oven. Serve immediately.

HAIKYU!! TO THE TOP Caramel and Cheddar Popcorn
For me, when it comes to popcorn, there’s no competition on which kind is best. A big bowl of caramel and cheddar popcorn is the clear winner. If you’re not familiar with this iconic duo, it was popularized in Chicago for being the perfect blend of sweet and salty. The vibrant orange of the cheddar is reminiscent of the Karasuno High boys from HAIKYU!! TO THE TOP. Serve this while streaming the awards and you’ll score big.
Caramel and Cheddar Popcorn Recipe
Serves: 3-4 | Time: 30 minutes, plus cooling
Popcorn Ingredients:
2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup popcorn kernels
Caramel Popcorn Ingredients:
6 Tablespoons unsalted butter
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
Cheddar Popcorn Ingredients:
1/4 cup powdered cheddar cheese
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
Directions:
Step 1
In a large pot over medium heat, add butter. Once fully melted, add popcorn kernels and cover pot.
Step 2
While covered, gently shake the pot to ensure the kernels are cooking evenly until it begins to pop, about 1 to 2 minutes. Continue to shake until the popping slows to about one pop every 3 seconds and most of the popcorn is cooked. Turn off heat and dump the popcorn evenly into two serving bowls, about 5 1/2 cups of popped popcorn in each bowl.
Step 3
Heat oven to 300°F degrees. Starting with the caramel popcorn, combine butter, brown sugar, corn syrup, and salt in a small saucepan over medium high heat. Stir occasionally until it begins to boil and then turn off heat.
Step 4
While still very hot, carefully add vanilla (it will bubble up a little) and baking soda. Add one half of the popcorn and gently toss with a wooden spoon until it’s fully coated.
Step 5
On a parchment-lined baking sheet, spread out caramel popcorn. Bake for 20 minutes, rotating the pan once halfway through.
Step 6
Remove from oven. While still hot, gently toss again to reincorporate any loose caramel. Let cool completely before eating. The longer it cools, the firmer the caramel coating will get. If you wish to speed the process up a little, transfer the popcorn to a cool, parchment-lined baking sheet.
Step 7
For the cheddar popcorn, combine cheese powder and spices into the reserved second half of popcorn. Gently toss with a large until full coated. Serve both popcorns combined in a large bowl.

Hime’s Coffee Cat Donuts
Did you know Hime’s favorite food is old-fashioned donuts? Same. These coffee cat donuts are what I imagine the ultimate Hime food to be: They’re cute, sweet....and bear a striking resemblance to Best Cat, Yuzu! This recipe does call for extra glaze to easily dip the donuts, so be sure to save the leftovers for brownies or even more donuts. If you want to keep things simple and skip the cat decorating part (Yuzu will forgive you, I suppose), you can just toss on some rainbow sprinkles. Enjoy these coffee cat donuts while doing your best Hime impression.
Coffee Cat Donuts Recipe
Yields: 10-12 donuts | Time: 15 minutes, plus decorating
Donut Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon nutmeg, preferably fresh
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup whole milk
4 teaspoons instant coffee
1 egg
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup sour cream or whole-fat yogurt
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Glaze Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1/4 cup coffee or water, plus more for rehydrating
Pinch of kosher salt
Cat Decorations Ingredients:
24 whole almonds
1/4 cup white chocolate
Directions:
Step 1
Heat oven to 350°F degrees. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt. Whisk together and set aside.
Step 2
In a small bowl, whisk together milk and instant coffee until dissolved. Then combine egg, sugars, vegetable oil, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Whisk until combined.
Step 3
Using a wooden spoon, gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until just incorporated.
Step 4
Spray two donut pans with nonstick spray. Place batter into a piping bag (or gallon ziploc bag with the corner cut) and pipe donuts into the pans.
Step 5
Bake for until the donuts are golden brown along the edges, about 10 to 12 minutes. Test to see if they’re done with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, take out and cool for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 6
While donuts are cooling, make the glaze. In a medium bowl, combine powdered sugar, cocoa powder, coffee, and salt. Whisk until completely smooth. If you like the glaze to be on the thinner side, add more coffee until desired consistency.
Step 7
To make the cat ears, take two almonds and stick them into one side of the top of a donut, leaving the pointed edges out. Repeat for remaining donuts.
Step 8
Dip the ear-side down into the glaze, coating each donut halfway. Gently shake off excess and place back onto the wire rack while glaze sets, about 3 to 5 minutes.
Step 9
In a small bowl, microwave white chocolate in 15-second intervals until melted. You have two options to decorate the face, you can use the end of a toothpick or place the white chocolate into a small piping bag. Decorate each donut with eyes, a nose, and mouth. Place back onto the wire rack until it’s set, about 2 to 3 minutes.
Enjoy the snacks for the Anime Awards! Which one are you most excited to eat first? Let us know in the comments below!

Check Out these Coffee Drinks: A Perfect Companion for a Rainy Day
It's the rainy season yet again! India just can’t seem to get rid of the rain. We know it gets inconvenient, travelling in the splashy muddles. However, sometimes you just need to learn to embrace it! There’s nothing better in life than a cup of Coffee on a rainy day to truly enjoy the season. I have compiled and collected the drinks to savour using the best coffee beans online. Pick one, make it, and go watch the rain with a cup of happiness in your hands.
1. Weight-friendly diet coffee: To those waiting for the sun to shine to be able to go back on to the beaches or those simply inclined to keep weight gain at a minimum- we have a fantastic option for you to consider. To make this mix, you’ll need:
10 ounces of hot black
¼ teaspoon of chocolate extract
¼ teaspoon of hazelnut extract
¼ teaspoon of rum extract
Equal natural sweetener.
Give these a mix, and watch the rain wash away all the extra calories you could have earned!
2. Irish Coffee: Obviously originating in Ireland, Irish coffee is a drink made of hot coffee, Irish whiskey, and brown sugar mixed and served with whipped cream on top. The cream is used to drink the coffee.
You’ll need:
1 cup freshly brewed hot coffee
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 jigger Irish whiskey (1 1/2 ounces or 3 tablespoons)
Heavy cream, slightly whipped
To warm a footed mug or a mug, fill it halfway with hot water and then drain it. Pour scalding hot coffee into a warmed glass till 3/4 full. Stir in the brown sugar until it is fully dissolved. Mix in the Irish whiskey. Pour carefully over the back of a spoon to make a collar of whipped heavy cream. Serve immediately.
Irish coffee tastes strong, and the Irish whiskey isn’t for the light-hearted either. Because it is so bold, it makes for a great rainy-day drink.
3. Kesar Milk: Kesar milk is beautifully creamy and is well loved by everyone, age no bar. It requires almost minimal effort and is super easy to make from scratch. You’ll need:
1/4th teaspoon kesar/saffron strands
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon chopped almonds
2 teaspoons chopped pistachios
Cardamom powder to taste
Combine the sugar, almonds, pistachios, and cardamom powder, and blend it. Add it to hot milk. Top it off with saffron, and there you have it! You can also cool the hot milk to drink a cold version of it, or simply add the mix to some milk set aside and add that milk to a cup of cold milk.
Kesar milk is healthy, and rich in calcium. It has a sweet taste, almost reminding us of Ras Malai- creamy and rich. This makes this drink such a popular option- and such a yummy one, too!
4. Hot chocolate and Marshmallows: Hot chocolate and marshmallows have been paired together like bread and butter. A common drink at camping bonfires, this drink is just pure tradition and flavour in one mug. Making it isn’t rocket science, and you can often get very store-bought results if you use the right ingredients at home.
You’ll need:
1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
1/2 cup cane sugar (or another kind that you like to use)
1 cup cocoa
1 tsp salt
Chop up the chocolate chips into small pieces. You don’t need to turn them into powder, just smaller chunks will do. Process the sugar, cocoa and salt until finely ground and mix carefully with the chocolate chips. Put the milk over the stove for a good 15 minutes, or simply heat it in the microwave until you reach the temperature desired. Then add the chocolate chip mix to the milk and pour it into the cup. Remember to add marshmallows to the mix on top. This will have to be the most Instagrammable drink you’ve made!
5. Creamy Mayan Hot Chocolate: If you are looking for a hot chocolate-based drink, and prefer something of more depth, you should try this instead.
You’ll need:
1 cup cooked butternut squash
1 1/2 cups milk
1 1/2 ounces (1 1/2 squares) baking chocolate broken in half
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
A pinch of nutmeg
A pinch of cayenne pepper
2-3 tablespoons sweetener of choice
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Put all the ingredients on a boil except the vanilla extract. Keep it on the boil until the chocolate dissolves or melts into the mixture. Next, stir in the vanilla and quickly put it into the blender container, making sure there is a vent for the steam to escape. Serve creamy and delicious!
Every single ingredient is very real and so much healthier as compared to the other hot chocolate blends that are available.
This Creamy Mayan Hot Chocolate is a good rainy day’s best partner, too. Who knew squash would be the deal maker?
6. Hot Caramel Latte: Who doesn't love Caramel? It is so deeply luxuriant, and that flavour- yum! A Caramel Latte is made by mixing espresso with caramel syrup and pouring steamed milk on top. To make this rain punch, you’ll need to be prepped with the basics!
You’ll need:
3 tablespoons coffee shot
1 cup hot milk
1 1/2 tablespoons caramel sauce
1 ½ tablespoons vanilla powder
Toss the caramel sauce into a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Mix in the vanilla powder well. Pour in a little amount of frothy hot milk. On top, you may use caramel sauce or chocolate powder as a garnish.
Hot Caramel Latte has a rich caramel taste married to the essence of vanilla. Sit back and enjoy the rain.
There! That’s my solid go-to list of what to drink when the rains come in! Remember to enjoy the season- and don’t let the water spill your plans for the week! Happy coffee drinking!
We genuinely hope you enjoyed reading this article. Share with me what you feel in the comments below! What did you like about this list? Be sure to leave heads up!

The most wonderful time of the year — for cookies
Dutch Spice Cookies (recipe in column): Prepared with holiday spices — cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves and nutmeg.Photo: Ekaterina Smirnova
Cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, Christmas trees, stars, candy canes, sleighs and snowmen all are popular flavors and shapes of holiday cookies. After Thanksgiving, cookie sheets are dusted off and heirloom family cookie recipes are dug up in preparing to bake and share these sweet treats with family and friends. I have a feeling that there will be more boxes of cookies traveling through the mail this year. There are families who will be baking cookies together virtually, too. And, National Cookie Day is this Friday! All the reason to add a few new creations to your repertoire.
My research found that the term “cookie” is derived from “koekje,” the Dutch word for “little cake.” According to culinary history, to test oven temperatures before putting a cake in the oven, a small amount of batter was baked — and voila, the cookie was born.
Wikipedia says, “the earliest examples of Christmas cookies in the United States were brought by the Dutch in the early 17th century. Due to a wide range of cheap imported products from Germany between 1871 and 1906, following a change to importation laws, cookie cutters became available in American markets. These imported cookie cutters often depicted highly stylized images with subjects designed to hang on Christmas trees. Due to the availability of these utensils, recipes began to appear in cookbooks designed to use them. In the early 20th century, U.S. merchants were also importing decorated lebkuchen cookies from Germany to be used as presents.”
Speaking of cookie cutters, did you know there is a National Cookie Cutter Historical Museum in Joplin, Mo.?
So what new cookies will I be baking this year? A few will be from “101 Greatest Cookies on the Planet” by Erin RenoufMylroie (2020, Page Street Publishing, $22.99). These cookie recipes include many favorite flavors. From New York City Giant Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies, Nutella Lava Cookies, Peppermint-Dipped Pumpkin Biscotti, Maple- Pecan Shortbread to Hot Cocoa and Marshmallow Sno-Cap Cookies, the recipes are perfect to make your gift-giving and celebration effortlessly sweet, and, even better, most of the recipes can be prepared in a single bowl to cut down on cleanup.
Now light up the oven, get the kids involved and start baking these cookies from the book! For the recipe for Half-Dipped Peppermint Bark Cookies, visit https://bit.ly/3l467Ru.
Dutch Spice Cookies
The author writes, “I’ve been making these Dutch spice cookies since Sailor and West were teeny-tiny. At Christmastime, we like to celebrate the Dutch tradition of Santa Claus. Sailor and West leave their shoes by the fireplace, and ‘Sinter Klaas’ fills their shoes with candy and these Dutch cookies that I bake the night before. It’s also a tradition to get new shoes this night, since I don’t like the idea of leaving candy and cookies by used shoes. Ha!
“You’ll recognize the warm, comforting flavors in these cookies from cookie butter, which has become so popular in the United States. In fact, if you want to make a little cookie butter, just crumble a few of these cookies and puree them with a little butter and condensed milk to form a peanut butter- like consistency. There you go: cookie butter!”
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
11/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the work surface
In a large bowl, mix the butter and sugar until light and creamy, about 2 minutes. Add the egg and stir to combine. Sprinkle the salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves and nutmeg over the batter. Mix for 2 minutes, or until all the spices and powders are thoroughly combined. Gently stir in the flour. Gather the dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill the dough for at least 2 hours, or up to 1 week. About 15 minutes before you are ready to bake, take the cookie dough out and leave it on the counter.Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.Lightly flour a work surface. Roll the dough to a thickness of 1/4 to 1/2 inch. You can use a special Dutch cookie cutter, but I like to cut the cookies into rectangles. Simple! Bake the cookies on the prepared cookie sheets, leaving about 1 inch of space between cookies, for about 12 to 15 minutes, or until starting to brown on the edges. Makes 40 cookies.
White Chocolate-Dipped Ginger Crinkles
The headnote says, “Do you ever get invited to those Christmas cookie exchange parties? I never know what to bring. Ironic, right? The best thing that ever happened to me at a cookie exchange was getting this gingersnap recipe. The cookies are gorgeous — full of deep crinkles and a sparkly sugar coating — but wait, there’s more! These pretty Christmas treats are dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with red and green sprinkles — like they’re all wrapped up for Christmas. Look for holly sprinkles if you want to make these extra festive.”
3/4 cup vegetable shortening, softened
1 cup granulated sugar, plus more for rolling
1/4 teaspoon molasses
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon ginger
2 cups all-purpose flour
8 ounces white chocolate melting discs, or white vanilla-almond bark
Red and green sprinkles
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line three cookie sheets with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, cream the shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the molasses, salt and egg, mixing until well combined. There should be no streaks of egg or molasses. Sprinkle the cinnamon, baking soda and ginger over the dough. Stir until well combined. Gently mix in the flour. Shape the dough into 3/4-inch balls. You should have about 36 balls. Roll each one in sugar and place on the cookie sheets with 2 inches between each cookie.Bake the cookies for 12 to 15 minutes, or until crinkled and puffed. Cool for 5 minutes on the cookie sheets. Transfer to a rack and cool completely.
Melt the white chocolate according to package directions. Dip half of each cookie in the chocolate and sprinkle the dipped side with the red and green sprinkles. Return to the rack and let the cookies rest until the chocolate is completely set. If you need the chocolate to set quickly, you can put the cookies in the fridge. Makes about 36 cookies.
Glazed Cinnamon Roll Cookies
The headnote says, “Don’t let the tiny little bit of yeast in this cookie scare you away. You don’t have to do anything special. You can treat it like any other dry ingredient — just throw it in the dough when you add your salt. The little bit of yeast is going to give these cookies a tiny bit of lift and a little bit of the raised dough flavor that you associate with fluffy, homemade cinnamon rolls. They take a little bit of patience since the dough needs to chill for at least 4 hours. I usually just make them the day before. I love these cookies with a traditional vanilla glaze on top, but I also love them with an orange glaze (just add a teaspoon of orange zest and use orange juice instead of milk), or a maple glaze (trade the vanilla for maple extract). These might be my mom’s favorite cookies in the whole book. She loves to tell her friends about them.”
Cookies
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon active dry or rapid rise yeast
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
11/3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for the work surface and as needed
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2 teaspoons cinnamon
Glaze
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
To make the cookies, in a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla. Sprinkle the salt, yeast and baking powder over the top. Mix well. Gently stir in the flour. The dough should be the texture of Play-Doh. Add additional flour as necessary, a tablespoon at a time, until the dough is only just slightly sticky.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a 15-inch-by-7-inch rectangle. Sprinkle the dough with the brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll up the dough, starting with the long edge, into a cylinder. The dough might tear a little, but just keep patiently working and rolling. Any little rips will not show up in the final product. Pinch the dough to seal it tightly at the seam. Wrap the dough in waxed paper and place in the fridge. The cylinder of dough usually stretches a little. I notice that it’s usually about 18 inches long by the time I get it to the fridge. Chill the dough for at least 4 hours, or up to 1 week. When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.Slice the dough into 1/2-inch rounds and place on the baking sheets. Bake until just set and golden brown on the bottom, around 8 to 10 minutes.Prepare the glaze by combining the powdered sugar, vanilla and milk until smooth. Dip the top of the cooled cookies in the glaze. Makes about 36 cookies.
New York City Giant Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookies
1 cup unsalted butter, cold1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 cup cornstarch
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
2 cups chopped walnuts
Put the butter in a large, microwaveable bowl and microwave on high for about 20 seconds to soften — not melt — the butter. Stir in the brown sugar and granulated sugar. With a wooden spoon or an electric mixer, beat until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and stir until well combined. Sprinkle the salt, baking powder, baking soda and cornstarch over the dough. Stir or beat for 1 minute. Add the flour and stir very gently until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips and the walnuts.Shape the dough into 8 equal balls. I like to gather the dough into a giant ball and cut it in half, then divide it in half again, and then again to get 8 semi-equal pieces. Place the balls on a plate and chill, uncovered in the fridge, for 2 to 4 hours. If you chill the dough longer it will take just a few more minutes to bake, which is fine, but be ready to adjust your bake time. While the dough is chilling, preheat the oven to 415 degrees. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.Transfer the dough balls to the baking sheets, spacing them out evenly. Bake one tray at a time on the center rack until the tops of the cookies are just starting to brown, about 11 to 13 minutes. You can rotate the pan if the cookies are browning unevenly. Let the cookies cool for 10 minutes on the baking sheet before devouring, or before moving them to a rack to cool completely. The cookies are at their very best after 10 minutes of rest when the chocolate chips are ooey gooey, but they will still be delicious after a few days. The chips will be set, but the cookies will still be soft and tender inside. Makes 8 giant cookies.
