In my honest opinion, Season Zero handled the Shadi episodes (and the whole âtwo souls in one bodyâ thing) far better than Duelist Kingdom could ever hope to achieve
#yugioh#screen redraw#Season 1 was still trying to figure out the whole card game thing#but they couldâve handled the actual plot better#if youâre gonna have Yugi break down over having no control of his body THEN SHOW IT#Donât just leave it for a single duel against Kaiba like 20 episodes in#you gotta foreshadow the panic#show his unease-comment on the gaps in his memory-have him question things#you gotta do what the manga/season zero did

I've been trying to convince myself that jelsie is not a jerza AU, but tonight is the night I give in.
I waited for years to see the jerza arc come to a satisfying conclusion. I was there, Gandalf, for the kiss that wasn't. Or maybe it was. I don't know. It compelled me. Still does.
The point is that I waited patiently. I felt it in my bones that at the very end of it all (and there was a lot going on at the end of FT), I was going to get that satisfying panel of Jellal finally making peace with his regrets and getting with Erza. No more of this, "It's complicated!" bullshit. Some actual character development to cap off the series.
Of course, it's complicated. It has been complicated for years. But I was over garden variety complication. It had gotten old, frankly. I wanted âšclosureâš. I wanted a payoff for investing in jerza, for believing in jerza. At the very least, I thought I could be satisfied with jerza couched in fan service because, let's be honest, I was desperate.
But did we get that? NO! What do we get instead? A mention that Erza is taking very good care of her hair...
No.
I went back to read that part several times to make certain that I wasn't hallucinating.
No.
No way would Hiro Mashima do this to me. No way would he build jerza up like that since the first season, setting the ship up to be a profound expression of forgiveness, friendship and love triumphing, to end the main story with Erza brushing her fucking hair.
You know who does get a pretty good ending? Zeref and Mavis. Zeref and (the Mary Sue) MAVIS SUE.
But, I didn't complain very loudly. I told myself I was going to wait for the anime to make good on what the manga failed to accomplish. Did it? I don't actually know because I found myself so squicked by the prospect of being disappointed again, but in moving color this time, that I just noped out the whole thing.
And then Edens Zero dropped.
Space? Robots? An Epic tale where time itself is bent? đ€Čđ» Yes, this sounds like something right up my alley. And Happy's back. We love Happy. Who doesn't love Happy? Let the healing commence!
But then I met, Elsie Crimson, the armored space pirate, and right after that, we see Justice of the Interstellar Union Army. And there was a part of me that just... No. Noooo. No way would Hiro Mashima do this to me.
Again.
It is one thing to make characters that look like your old characters. They're his. He can do with them what he wants. And I am all for someone writing the jerza AU where Jellal chases Erza across the cosmos, but why does it have to be the damn manga artist writing the AU? He could have just, you know, written the jerza ending I wanted in the first place.
Dammit.
But I also thought, "Hey, Flour. You gotta calm down. They're just fictional characters. This isn't healthy. And just look at Happy. Yes, he's an exceed, but he's also a robot. And just look a Jella- I mean JUSTICE's hair. It's only blue sometimes, and the face-tattoo/ether gear is more or less transient. So there! Not the same. This won't be jerza in space. It'll be jelsie, something new and different. See, they already kissed (as they stabbed each other) which is a hell of a lot more progress that jerza ever made, I think..."
So that brings us to the present.
I had a bad day. No getting around it or denying it. Really bad day, and I have a habit of waiting to watch animes that I know I'm going to like on bad days to turn them around a little. So, I turned on Edens Zero, and what did I hear?
Colleen Clinkenbeard and Robert McCollum. The English voice actors for Erza and Jellal as Elsie and Justice.
Gosh, no! I had to be mistaken.
So, I looked it up, but since my ears are well-trained homing beacons for Collen Clinkenbeard's sweet, sweet voice, I was NOT mistaken.
It's a jerza AU. That particular part of Edens Zero is a damn jerza space AU. And I am... beside myself bitching about it on tumblr, the only place weird and niche enough to tolerate this rambling rant about fictional characters that I care way too much about.
Goodnight, cruel fandom. I just can't right now.

rating every demon fight in kny bc i can
non-biased, completely objective rating (more or less) of every significant demon fight in kny based on a number of factors, including:
cleverness of fighting tactics
placement in the storyâs timeline
integration of character backstories
cohesive themes between characters
etc
by non-biased and objective i mean iâm not skewing the rating if a death felt fair or whatever
everything past where the anime ended will be under a read more so anime onlys who havent watched mugen train, youre safe lol
oh and i reread the manga like 20+ times (reread the latter arcs at least 40 times, haha hyperfixations am i right?) so be rest assured im not pulling these ratings out of my ass
also ill randomly be bolding certain phrases just to improve readability
anyways letâs gooooo
VS NEZUKO
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kamado Tanjirou and Nezuko. Tanjirou is fending her off by putting the axe handle in her mouth, keeping her from eating him. End Image Description.]
10/10
i like how realistic it is, because yeah tanjirou would react the way to he did with zero fighting skills against a demon
very clear why tanjirou is fighting nezuko and shows a bit of worldbuilding on how normal people react to their family becoming demons
always nice to see worldbuilding
giyuu is the perfect example of a seasoned demon slayer whoâs good at his job, and he juxtaposes tanjirou very well in that aspect
my only complaint is not directly in this fight itself but how nezuko is handled throughout the story as a whole
like bro, it is literally never explained why nezuko is different from demons
could have been easily explained if maybe her familyâs ghosts like slapped her hand every time she wanted to eat a person but nope
sheâs just built different lol
so yeah youll see future ratings get points docked off bc nezuko unlocks some secret power with no prior explanation other than she angy >:3
VS TEMPLE DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of a demon. The demon has a sharp-nailed hand over his neck and there are four text bubbles around him saying âBut a wound like this... will heal in no time! See? The bleeding already stopped!â End Image Description.]
10/10
may be more forgettable compared to like rui but still good
tanjirou did exceptionally well in this fight and his ability to think on his feet is once again beautifully illustrated here (trapping this dudeâs head against the tree trunk with the axe)
very clever
again, establishes more demon worldbuilding regarding regeneration and still being able to move without their head
and the demons burning in the sunlight thing since nezuko wasnât able to show that
the ending where tanjirou hesitates to kill the demon also serves to show his sympathetic nature towards demons that will last throughout the entirety of the first 60-ish chapters
:)
weâll talk about what the hell happens to tanjirou after that
or not, it could honestly be its own post
VS HAND DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of a many-handed demon. He has six hands around him, three of them covering his mouth while he chuckles, two of them grabbing his cheeks, and one holding on to the top of his head. There are two text bubbles saying âThatâs how many of Urokodakiâs students I have eaten! Iâve decided to kill all of his students!â End Image Description.]
10/10
ooooh probably the first big fight against a demon in the series
oh yeah not doing the two random demons tanjirou one shot in a single blow bc eh
anyways hand demonâs pretty goddamn scary, considering the fact that this is the 5th demon or whatever tanjirou has had to face so far
very nice way to show us how much tanjirouâs innate intuition and all his other random abilities (sense of smell, hard forehead) can come together and help him decapitate this guy
i liked the mini history with urokodaki this dude had and why he had beef with our favorite mentor figure, it establishes that urokodaki was in fact a super good demon slayer and its cool to see that actually shown
i also liked that small moment of compassion tanjirou gave this demon, staying consistent with tanjirouâs established kindness
the demonâs sad tale with killing his own brother very much humanizes him when all the reader has seen up to this point is that this guy is a monster who eats people
sets up the theme of demons just being humans but being victims of circumstance that unfortunately doesnât hold up as well in arcs past mugen train
VS SWAMP DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kamado Tanjirou fighting off three horned demons as they appear from below. There is a spiky text bubble saying âThree of them!!!â End Image Description.]
10/10
not my most favorite fight but it still portrays everything alright and im not allowed to let my personal opinions mess with the rating so
i like how tanjirou mentioned the fact that he trained in conditions similar to the bog and explains how he pulled off the whirlpool form
using past experiences to aid him in the present, nice nice
tanjirou and nezuko dont quite work together very well but its yknow the first mission so ill chalk it up to simple inexperience
also the way the muzan curse thingie was hinted at here? fantastic way of showing that little bit of demon worldbuilding
...
oh god, it mentions nezuko being stronger than normal demons
ok its not a problem here per say since i can still suspend my disbelief, but later on it just becomes a glaring problem that gets worse over time
VS SUSAMARU AND YAHABA
[Image Description: Manga panels of Susamaru and Yahaba. The first one is a joyful Susamaru about to throw a temari ball. There is floating text saying âIs she one of Kibutsujiâs minions?!â The second image is an annoyed Yahaba, holding one of his eye-hands to cover himself. There are two text bubbles around him saying âMy kimono got all dusty. Tch!â End Image Description.]
9/10
why dont these bitches have a good looking panel together dammit
anyways amazing entrance, the way yahaba used his hand eyes to track down tanjirou is really neat
the synergy yahaba and susamaru have is incredible, its awesome dude, they work extremely well together and it shows
tanjirou actually mixing his water breathing forms together is a god tier move and i absolutely love how he can show off his ability to think on his feet once again
establishing how yushiroâs bda works early on is really well done
establishing tamayo as a fugitive this early on is also super well done
not to get into spoiler territory but both these things pay off
how tamayo ended up defeating susamaru is literally awesome in so many ways
shows off both how smart she is by exploiting the muzan curse
and speaking of the muzan curse, we actually get to see what happens to demons who even say his name, back when it was hinted with the swamp demon
tamayo is amazing dude, and we get some real evidence of the horrible suffering demons go through if they even accidentally attempt to betray muzan :D
...
now heres what keeps this fight from being perfect
nezuko somehow grew stronger against susamaruâs temari
with no explanation
which could have been easily explained if tamayo was like âoh yeah the drug also boosts a demonâs strength temporarilyâ
but nope
god, i just dont like how gotouge handles nezukoâs power boosts throughout the series bc like i said before
no explanation is given anywhere
this is a huge issue, this isnt a pokemon game, you cant just kill demons and get exp at the end of every battle, level up, get some sweet stat bonuses and move on
(actually if gotouge established that this is how nezuko grew in power, than all my complaints about this would be gone, im not even joking)
anyways i get that nezuko is supposed to be âspecialâ but thats too vague of a descriptor
how the hell is she special? ya gotta be more specific and stick with that explanation or that suspension of disbelief is going to disappear
VS TONGUE DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of a four-eyed demon with horns and a long tongue. He is crawling in an awkward position, one foot in front of his tilted head. There are two text bubbles around him saying âHeh, heh! Iâll slurpy slurp your brains out through you ear!â End Image Description.]
10/10
not much to say, showcases zenitsuâs true abilities really well
nicely done
VS HORNED DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of a big, single-horned demon. There are three text bubbles saying âYou dodged! Youâre awfully lively for a human! Itâll be a treat to carve away your flesh!â End Image Description.]
10/10
would have ignored this fight if not for the fact we havent seen inosuke fight before
it definitely shows how very fast-paced and wild inosuke is
no complaints here lol
VS KYOGAI
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kyogai, a demon with tsuzumi drums attached to his shoulders. There are four text bubbles around him saying âWhy?! Why does everyone keep sneaking through my house? Itâs so aggravating. Itâs my prey! Itâs my prey! Found in my territory!â End Image Description.]
10/10
establishes marechi blood pretty early on, once again expanding the worldbuilding of kny which is always cool
interesting terrain where itâs always shifting, tanjirou once again proves his ability to adapt really quickly by altering one of his forms to work with the turning room
(man, i wish the form mixing/form modification thing carried on throughout the rest of the story, but it really didnt which is just a shame)
the injuries tanjirou had prior to this mission actually affecting him was a nice touch
oh yeah, kyogai gives us more worldbuilding (which is always nice) regarding the 12 kizuki, and the aspect of him being cast out due to being weak shows a lot about muzanâs indifference towards his own demons if they arent strong
his backstory being a failed writer once again humanizes kyogai as a former human being and not just a monster
tanjirou shows his sympathy and compassion again by not stepping on his written work and complimenting his bda
well, tbh tanjirouâs actions kinda came out of nowhere but its a very minor thing and not enough to dock a point off, like it didnt affect the outcome of the fight that much if at all
(so if you see future battles where points are docked off for things not logically making sense, its bc whatever nonsensical concepts were integrated into the fight actually turned the tide of the battle and thats a big no-no)
very good fight and if you remember how kinda bad tanjirou was at accurately slicing the swamp demon, you can see that heâs already improved leaps and bounds
im so proud of him
VS MOTHER SPIDER DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kamado Tanjirou and the Mother Spider Demon. There is a light shining down from the top right on to the demon as Tanjirou slices her head off, rain following in his wake. There is floating text saying âWater Breathing: Fifth Form - Blessed Rain After the Drought!â around them. End Image Description.]
10/10
i mean does anyone disagree?
all the demon slayers getting their necks snapped by her threads was pretty horrific, probably more horrifying than anything else we have seen in the entire series if im gonna be honest
the death scene is probably the most beautiful one in the series
it reveals a water breathing form that we havent seen before thats the 5th form
as far as i know, no other breathing style has this merciful sword stroke so it shows a lot about the original water breather and what they might have been like
but enough about them, really the focus is on tanjirou bc this is like the best example by far of how kind and sympathetic he is to demons
dunno what else to say, its perfect
VS SON SPIDER DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of Agatsuma Zenitsu performing Thunder Breathing 1st Form: Sixfold on a spider-like demon. Zenitsu is crashing through the roof of a shed, and a zig-zag path is left behind. There are sound effects all over the panel, saying âBam!â in large font. End Image Description.]
10/10
chose a picture without a huge spider on it bc i would like to not scare myself half to death
anyways extremely amazing fight, showcases zenitsuâs immense talent and skill, adapting the 1st form of thunder breathing to be a more versatile move
theres a moment where his backstory with kuwajima and kaigaku were revealed and his hidden insecurities are out in the open which is super nice and further develops a character weve only considered as comedic relief until now
the anime made the backstory scenes and the killing scene so much cooler
while there is no thematic connection between zenitsu and the demon, it really isnt necessary to keep this fight interesting
anyways another pretty much perfect fight
VS FATHER SPIDER DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kamado Tanjirou and Inosuke slashing at the Father Spider Demon. The demon has blocked Tanjirouâs sword with his arm, and Inosuke is slamming both his blades down on the demonâs other hand. End Image Description.]
10/10
again, not my most favorite fight but it does everything right
i do have to say it was excellent how gotouge hyped up the father spider demon to be the big bad, only just so the plot twist later takes the readers by surprise
nicely done
VS DAUGHTER SPIDER DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kochou Shinobu and the Daughter Spider Demon. Shinobuâs back is seen and her haori looks like a butterflyâs wings keeping her afloat as she holds her stinger blade out to the side. The demon looks surprised as blood gushes from her side, arm, shoulder, chest, neck, and forehead. There is floating text on the panel, saying âInsect Breathing - Butterfly Dance - Caprice!â End Image Description.]
10/10
first time weve seen shinobu and her fighting style
what i love most about this is how much it shows her true character, appearing as a carefree and naive individual so she seems underwhelming
then bam, reveals exactly how dangerous and uncaring she is of demons, listing out the specific ways she would torture the daughter spider demon in grotesque detail
her using poison to take demons by surprise is also super clever and brings back the worldbuilding established way earlier about wisteria being poisonous to demons
amazing integration of that concept
anyways this fight really encapsulates who shinobu is as a character and thats why it gets a perfect score
VS RUI
[Image Description: Manga panel of Rui holding his hand out directly towards the viewer. There are two text bubbles around him, saying âGive me your sister. If you hand her over quietly, Iâll spare your life.â End Image Description.]
8/10
not only is it a super scary fight but there is a deeper conflict between rui and tanjirou, what it means to be family
they are opposites in the sense that while tanjirou believes love is what makes a family, ruiâs subconscious desperation for an unbreakable bond drives him to use fear to keep his âfamilyâ together
excellent juxtaposition of their values, and this is only further emphasized when rui expresses out loud what he was going to do to nezuko
i also like the symbolism regarding ruiâs bda, how he uses threads or the âfamilialâ bonds to cut up his fake family with it if they act out of turn or annoy him
super neat detail
alright what i dont like about this fight is nezuko (again)
mostly her unlocking her bda to turn the tide of the battle bc her mom was like âyo, wake up, your brother is going to be killedâ
feels... forced ig
her bda in general is confusing and not consistent
man, i wish i could make a stronger argument for this but i do believe the problem stems from the fact that we dont ever know what nezuko is thinking, and what she thinks of tanjirou specifically
if she even cares for him as a sibling or if shes only going along with what her family is saying to her, things like that which would have been fixed if gotouge actually gave her thoughts some screen time
so the action feels pretty shallow
im also conflicted over tanjirou somehow remembering how dance of the fire god works
on one hand, hes using past information and applying it in the current setting so he doesnt die, which is understandable
but on the other hand, this was a teeny bit random?
i think what could have fixed this is if there was a scene in the beginning of the series where tanjirou was performing it himself, like practicing before he actually had to do it for new years
so that when the rui fight rolls around, it would have felt less like throwing dry spaghetti at a wall
but yeah
overall super good fight, giyuu ending up having to kill rui instead of tanjirou was super good in that tanjirou didnt become a pillar this early in the series and to show how strong giyuu is
there are some odd bits regarding the ultimate âbeheadingâ of rui using nezuko and tanjirous supposed bonds but it doesnt kill the fight entirely so it deserves its pretty high score
***under read more is manga-only fights so beware***
VS ENMU
[Image Description: Manga panel of Enmu holding his hand out directly at the viewer, with a mouth on the back of it. There is floating text to the top right of Enmu that says âWhispers of Forced Unconscious Hypnosis!â End Image Description.]
9/10
id say this fight is definitely overshadowed by the dream stuff prior to this but its pretty good in its own right
enmu fusing with the train was kinda confusing, like when was it established that demons could fuse with objects?
this worldbuilding element doesnt even appear again so yeah thats why it loses a point
how the kmbk gang end up defeating enmu is pretty sweet though, tanjirou using dance of the fire god to sever the neck bone was really nice and shows that him using the breathing style in the rui fight wasnt a one time thing
while kyojuroâs role was smaller in this part, the next part makes up for it so i cant complain
anyways ye, almost perfect score but its pretty good
VS AKAZA (MUGEN TRAIN)
[Image Description: Manga panel of Akaza holding his hand out to the viewerâs left. There is a text bubble saying âWhy donât you become a demon?â End Image Description.]
10/10
this encounter is literally amazing okay?
after the crew kills the big bad, it seems like everything is fine
but plot twist, upper moon 3 appears out of nowhere
this is the first time the reader has seen an upper moon, let alone the 3rd/4th strongest demon in existence and the way gotouge handled this twist is fucking amazing
kyojuroâs death scene really shows just how human even the strongest pillars are against demons with incredible power
its just
amazing
VS OBI DEMON
[Image Description: Manga panels of the obi-like demon. The first image shows the obi hung in the air and strung over each other like decorations, with women-shaped patterns in its folds. The second image is Hashibira Inosuke fighting the Obi demon which now has lips and eyes. There is floating text in that panel saying âBreath of the Beast: Sixth Fang - Jagged Gnaw!!â End Image Description.]
10/10
on to red light district
this fight is admittedly super forgettable and not very interesting at least compared to the main fight with daki and gyutaro
but it wraps up the sub plot of the women and uzuiâs wives going missing so it gets a perfect score for not messing that up
oh and it establishes the stretchy neck thing daki has going on which is very good
VS DAKI AND GYUTARO
[Image Description: Manga panel of Daki and Gyutaro. Daki is sitting on Gyutaroâs shoulders. There is a text bubble on the top right that says âThe two of us are one, after all.â as well as floating text that reads âThe power of the irregular siblings...!? Next issue lead color and the fight reaches its climax!!â End Image Description.]
8/10
love how this battle challenges tanjirouâs sympathy and kindness towards demons, just simply bc daki and gyutaro are horrible people
(too bad nothing came of this, which ill explain in the hantengu portion)
daki and gyutaro are very good villains and kept this fight super interesting from start to finish
uzui acting as a foil to gyutaro is nicely integrated and properly shown with how jealous gyutaro gets over seeing uzuiâs perfect form and stature
tanjirou not only mixes forms but mixes breathing styles as well, which is so fucking awesome
(too bad it was only used like once throughout the entire series, its quite unfortunate)
the super high tension right after inosuke gets stabbed and tanjirou wakes up was expertly portrayed and handled, it felt like the kmbk gang and uzui were actually going to lose
super awesome
the tanjirou and gyutaro parallels are expertly portrayed, with how gyutaro taunts tanjirou over failing to protect his little sister, and the more visual thing where tanjirou imagined his own neck underneath his blade, that was super duper nice
the ending is extremely tense and emotionally gripping, gotouge did a really good job with that artistically too
the demon mark acquisition scene was surprisingly not frustrating, considering that it wasnt really explained prior to the battle
i do think it has to do with how it was explained later just exactly how they worked so its not just some random thing gotouge pulled out of their ass
so pretty good
/
what i dont like is nezuko and her full power demon form
first of all where the fuck did that come from? she just got angry and suddenly shes as powerful as an upper moon
like
how?
that doesnt make sense???
her extremely quick regeneration makes no sense
her ability to manipulate her bloodâs properties makes no sense
and it doesnt even appear again so what was the point of that existing
none of this is even explained later which annoys me
that one part where tanjirou sings a lullaby to her to calm her down was alright ig but nezuko in this fight makes me extremely irritated and frustrated
just ugh
VS HANTENGU
[Image Description: Manga panel of Hantengu opening a shoji door. He is crawling inside, his hand in a gnarled, unnatural position. There is a text bubble saying âEeeeeeek.â End Image Description.]
1/10
swordsmith village
this fight can go fuck itself /j
no but seriously it has so many problems that it would be shorter to name its redeeming qualities (which ill do later)
first off, the nezuko full power form thing again
i hate it so much with a passion
again, where did her ability to regenerate instantly even come from???? this is never explained, ever
and why did she cut herself on tanjirouâs sword anyway
did she somehow know that it was going to turn red if she burned it?
gotouge what the fuck, there is literally no reason why nezuko would do that and we cant even read her mind to see her thought process
gotouge hates nezuko, i swear
/
remember when i said uzui is meant to be a foil to gyutaro in the rld fight? its pretty obvious that those two are opposites, it was nicely done
... what the hell does mitsuriâs insecurities about strength have to do with whatever the fuck hantengu has going on (which is basically nothing)?
so no meaningful connection between mitsuri and hantengu
theres no meaningful connection between tanjirou and hantengu other than tanjirou getting pissed off for like the second time
also tanjirouâs thing with being kind and sympathetic to demons was entirely dropped at this point
but instead of it leading up to a corruption arc of some sorts, it just doesnt
like honestly if something actually came of that anger he exhibited in this arc and from red light district from this point forward story-wise, i would have counted this as an amazing writing decision
but it literally doesnt so who cares
(god, i really start to hate what happened to his character after this )
and genyaâs revealed motivation also doesnt fit at all with hantenguâs thing, heâs not a foil, not a parallel, nothing, there is nothing
/
tanjirou being the catharsis for development for mitsuri and muichirou, who he has only talked to like twice
theres definitely a better way to handle those twoâs developments without his help
like gotouge, you have a big cast of characters, use them lol
/
i want to kick hantengu in the face for being boring as fuck (at least his clones have cool looking weapons)
doesnt even have a proper backstory, just a single spread of him being blamed for shit as a human
like... thats it? this is upper moon 4 what the hell
/
theres no clever form mixing here at all (regarding tanjirou) which probably would have helped with foreshadowing the 13th form for dance of the fire god/sun breathing better
also gotouge established that as tanjirouâs thing and now he doesnt do that stuff anymore which sucks
/
oh hey remember when tanjirou actually learned how to do zenitsuâs speed boost thing?
if you didnt, i dont blame you bc it literally doesnt appear again, ever
you could argue that he adapted it into his âwaltz flashâ technique or whatever the fuck that is but the way it was integrated into this fight was like throwing dry spaghetti at a wall
which is just a shame bc its meant to be representative of how tanjirou and zenitsu are good pals but the way it was utilized is forgettable as hell
/
i absolutely loathe the crimson blade concept as a whole and im mentioning this now bc its going to come into play why future instances where this goddamn thing comes up again causes points to be lost
its inconsistent as fuck ill tell you that
/
at least some yoriichi stuff appeared here and not shoved into the final battle with everything else
so the yoriichi stuff later didnt come out of absolute nowhere
genya and mitsuriâs unique fighting styles expand the kny worldbuilding just a little more which is always nice
tanjirou got a cool sword out of this which would have been cooler if him and yoriichi had a deeper connection that was actually explored
but we didnt get shit so whatever
other people getting demon marks being revealed here is also okay so that again, the final battle isnt filled with absolutely everyone getting their marks at once
demon marks have their own slew of problems but its not as bad as the fucking crimson sword shit
god i hate the crimson sword shit
...
dude this section needs a tldr, even i cant sit and read through my shit
TL;DR - this fight sucks and crimson swords are bullshit (more on this later)
VS GYOKKO
[Image Description: Manga panel of Tokitou Muichirou and Gyokko. Muichirou is looking to the left while Gyokko is looking to the right, both with their backs to each other. There are mist clouds billowing in the foreground and background, as well as a slash mark going across Gyokkoâs neck. End Image Description.]
7/10
this fight suffers from the same lack of cohesive themes through characters like the hantengu battle bc the antagonist is given nothing
but its better
we havent actually seen mui fight before so theres no consistencies that the reader has to keep track of for now
and there arent like 10 characters in the fight so this fight gets a lot of points just for being a lot more coherent
i do like that this fight shows just how good mui is that he can defeat an upper moon by himself
muiâs backstory is neat
gyokkoâs bda is very interesting too
... thats pretty much it lol
ye, anyways not the best fight but not the worst fight either
VS KAIGAKU
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kaigaku holding the hilt of his blade with one hand. There is two text bubbles around him, saying â...As usual, youâre still shabby. Itâs been a while, Zenitsu.â End Image Description.]
9/10
alright on to final battle arc
theres some good fights and then some really sucky ones, but this one was pretty incredible and very emotionally charged
theres a clear reason why zenitsu and kaigaku are battling each other (kai betrayed the corps and inadvertantly caused the only parental figure in zenitsuâs life to die, and zenitsu is rightfully pissed off about that)
the visual yin-yang symbolism is awesome too
zenitsu winning due to using the 7th form he created himself (which i have reason to believe was inspired by tanjirou) was the perfect ending to the fight, really couldnt ask for anything better and is a perfect example of how much of an effect tanjirou has had on zenitsu
the 7th form is what tanjirouâs waltz flash should have been lol
/
what keeps this fight from being absolutely perfect is lack of development prior to this conflict
(since the final battle arc is basically a culmination of all the hinted developments through the series, im going to actually factor in how much and how well these conflicts were foreshadowed)
anyways if we had actually seen zenitsu, kaigaku, and kuwajima actually interacting with each other and showing how they were essentially a family (not just through flashbacks), it would have made zenitsu placing the responsibility of killing kai onto himself a lot more tragic
but like, apart from brief flashbacks where zenitsu actually met kaigaku off screen and that one thing all the way back in natagumo where both kuwajima and kai were introduced, thats pretty much it in terms of thunder family development
so yeah its underdeveloped for sure
also one random thought, i personally think zenitsu should have gotten his demon mark in this fight, it would have been cool to see
VS AKAZA (INFINITY FORTRESS)
[Image Description: Manga panel of Akazaâs face. There are two text bubbles around him, saying âOkay, letâs get started. Itâs time for the feast.â There is also floating text saying âThe inspection of the strong has begun...â as well as a simple box on the lower left, denoting its the end of chapter 147. End Image Description.]
6/10
oh god please dont hate me for this
ill list the good things first how about that
this conflict was foreshadowed perfectly in mugen train, you bet the readers were expecting a tanjirou vs akaza battle after the death of kyojuro and gotouge delivered
akazaâs power is shown extremely well with how many close calls tanjirou and giyuu had while fighting him
akaza eventually giving up on his own volition was really nice and fit into the context of the battle very very well, like sure tanjirou and giyuu wouldnt understand why he gave up but us readers do know
akaza is a really good character and a good villain
/
now notice how im only mentioning akaza and not giyuu or tanjirou in the good aspects
bc those two are eh
no form mixing at all from either tanjirou and giyuu
i know i said form mixing was kind of tanjirouâs thing but youâd think giyuu would have gotten more creative with his moves once akaza said that he was getting predictable
(well he said he âran out of water breathing formsâ but same thing)
so its kinda bland lol
speaking of giyuu, his whole thing with his insecurities of being weak wasnt handled well (it was sort of immediately brushed off in pillar training, and its unclear what part of his character arc he was in)
like sure him announcing that heâs going to protect tanjirou is cool but it feels like he was haphazardly dropped into the tanjirou and akaza conflict
isnt he supposed to be both their foils? that wasnt really explored that well in this fight and theres no deep meaning behind him even being here just analyzing what he did in it
he could have been handled better or even given more focus is what im saying
the anatta state came out of nowhere, im sorry okay? just bc inosuke like barely hinted at not being able to sense grandma hisa bc she had no fighting spirit and tanjurou magically taught his son how to achieve this state doesnt mean it was properly integrated into the fight
if the anatta state was actually explored prior to this battle, i would have given it a pass but it just feels like a cheap and poorly developed trick to get around akazaâs technique development (which is overpowered as fuck might i add)
gotouge should have just given akaza a plausible weakness to his technique development instead, especially since they dont use or even mention the anatta state after this
the transparent world shit makes no sense but ill elaborate on that in the koku battle analysis
oh and this thing doesnt affect the score but why wasnt there a âyoriichi visage overlappingâ moment when tanjirou was fighting akaza? hes an upper moon, he should have gotten those visions but he didnt
for some reason
anyways this battle was alright and has good set up but the middle and end parts didnt hold up as well bc random concepts were thrown at us without prior explanation or development
VS DOUMA
[Image Description: Manga panel of Douma licking Shinobuâs butterfly pin. There are two text bubbles around him saying âAnyway, tonight is a good night. Such fine feasts keep showing up one after another.â End Image Description.]
9/10
damn, such an amazing fight
the build up to this was properly foreshadowed
shinobu finally showing her true anger after hiding it for so long is amazing
douma is a super interesting character and fantastic villain
shinobu showing off her true power and determination against douma was sooooo nice
shinobuâs poisonous body plan is so clever and so interesting
if i was to rate the shinobu part of the fight alone, it would have gotten a 10/10 no question
the reason why its knocked down a point is because of the kanao and inosuke part
dont get me wrong, the way kanao is able to hold her own against douma by herself is pretty cool, how shes meant to parallel douma with their similar struggles surrounding human emotions and demonstrate how she has grown as a person, how she regains the ability to cry
that shit is cool, inosuke also getting in touch with his emotions after learning what happened to his mom was super neat as well
however
bc this battle takes place in the final arc with everything else, there wasnt proper build up regarding many things, the kotoha reveal especially
so inosuke feels kinda forced into the kanao shinobu and douma conflict, similar to how giyuu felt forced into the tanjirou and akaza conflict
its quite unfortunate bc if the kotoha stuff was actually explored prior to the confrontation, this âforcedâ feeling would have disappeared
i know some people have suggested that the douma fight should have just been its own arc, and i very much agree, it would have certainly helped fix this problem regarding inosuke and kotoha
last random thought, i wish shinobu, kanao, and inosuke got their demon marks
VS KOKUSHIBOU
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kokushibou looking directly at the viewer, holding the hilt of his blade as if heâs going to pull it out. There are text boxes around him saying âThis... is Upper Moon One... Heâs so different compared to the other Upper Moons. He looks so dignified and majestic.â The text boxes are narrated by Tokitou Muichirou. End Image Description.]
5/10
this fight is... mediocre
at least theres a more tangible connection between muichirou and kokushibou
even though that was handled kinda poorly
tbh there really was no point to revealing that mui is kokuâs descendant like at all, it just had no significant bearing to the plot of the fight
sanemiâs backstory being here is... okay ig?
idk the whole shinazugawa conflict has fundamental problems that i just cant think of any other place to put it without changing the entirety of canon
the marechi blood concept coming back was nice though
genya is there
him getting his bda was cool and helped turn the tide of the battle in a satisfying way (before kicking the bucket but thats not the focus here)
gyomei is a hollow husk of a character who barely got anything at all
but his fighting style is extremely cool and conveys his immense power very well
oh and him and sanemi are amazing at working together, like better than giyuu and tanjirou, and better than kanao and inosuke
theyre that good yet pretty much nobody acknowledges it which is sad
koku himself is pretty interesting and pretty tragic, very nice villain
but everyone together?
gonna be honest but this is such a random collection of characters, there was basically no foreshadowing that these four were going to go up again kokushibou, they are not that connected very well
i know there was this one post that focused on the theme of family that was common in all 5 characters in the fight but its just not enough
it would have been more cohesive if gotouge emphasized gyomei, mui, sanemi, and genya being like different aspects of yoriichi coming together to kill kokushibou hundreds of years after yoriichi failed to kill him
lmao its not like the 4 of them defeated koku with the power of family or friendship, they just smacked him over and over with a flail, shot him with magical bullets, and stabbed a crimson sword into his abdomen
wouldnt have been too hard to switch over to kokuâs pov and go âdamn these bitches are like my stupid brotherâ
...
speaking of crimson swords
i fucking hate the crimson sword concept oh my god can i complain about it now? im gonna complain about it now
unlike demon marks, the crimson blades werent even given any proper conditions, you just hold the stupid thing hard enough and it somehow imbues it with magical properties with no logic behind those properties
what part of crimson swords completely destroys a demonâs body in an instant? even muzan didnt go through that process when he was almost killed by yoriichi so where in the goddamn fuck did it come from
it could be explained bc the sword was left in the same spot for a long time but this tactic doesnt even appear again in a meaningful way (didnt kill muzan when tanjirou and giyuu held the sword together) so what the fuck was the point of having this even exist
its so underdeveloped and confusing and i hate it
the transparent world stuff is also confusing as shit and its pretty much never explained how they work aside from the vague âclose your mindâ advice, like why did it exist, it did nothing to help the present day demon slayers
its just so... poorly integrated
yeah anyways this is around the same rating as the akaza fight but a little worse bc there wasnt that strong set up beforehand
VS KOKUSHIBOU (SENGOKU ERA)
[Image Description: Manga panel of a bag getting ripped open, pieces of a wooden flute tumbling out. End Image Description.]
10/10
easily 10/10
this fight shows the tragedy of kokushibou giving in to his envy and hatred, when yoriichi cries over seeing his own family commit terrible attrocities against the people he wanted to protect
and yoriichi dies, now carrying the fact that he couldnt even save his own brother from the influence of muzan on his conscious forever
what a sad ending for yoriichi
and after koku angrily slashes apart yoriichiâs corpse, having him find and keep the flute he gave to him when they were kids to the present day gives him a small shred of humanity in the midst of his monstrous anger
VS NAKIME
[Image Description: Manga panels of Nakime. The first one shows a low quality version of her playing her biwa. The second one is a close up of her eye. There are spiky text bubbles saying âItâs Upper Rank... 4!â End Image Description.]
0/10
no nakime backstory
not even a goddamn fight
forgettable
useless
VS MUZAN
[Image Description: Manga panel of Kibutsuji Muzan in his white-haired, mouth-covered form. There are text bubbles around him saying âNot a single one was of use to me. I will crush the demon hunters tonight. Iâll massacre them all right now.â End Image Description.]
1/10
._.
i have many complaints but ill try my best to not make this another hantengu rant section lol
first off, obanai deserved better
im serious, this poor dude was forgotten until pretty much the end when we finally get a backstory out of him
and then he died
what a waste of a potentially amazing character
mitsuri getting taken out early was ehhh
pretty sure someone else made a post about her supposedly being extremely strong but she was nerfed in this battle which i agree with
literally none of the pillars work together very well, like remember how i praised sanemi and gyomei for being super coordinated? lmao that doesnt exist anymore
you could say this is caused by desperation though and you wouldnt be wrong, its just boring to sit through
that causes issues bc this now basically requires the crimson sword and transparent world concepts to be there to spice things up
but in this fight, they do nothing in the long run (except for tanjirou using the crimson sword at the very very end)
youve already heard me talk about why those two things are super shittily integrated and i cant be bothered repeating myself so moving on
kanao, inosuke, and zenitsu
they... exist? they didnt do much tbh, which i guess is the point but like, now its boring again
nezuko could have been used as a potential way to raise the stakes and make things interesting again (like âah shit, muzan might actually be unkillable if he gets nezuko but its okay bc shes not here- oh fuck shes here this is not goodâ)
but nothing came of her running off except confirmation that she became human again so whatever
uzui and shinjuro are useless, why werent they at the fight?
like they could have followed nezuko and contributed to the battle even a little but they just didnt and now theres literally no point to them appearing in this arc at all
wasted potential
tanjirou
i wish him going absolutely apeshit had actual substance behind it, like it being a part of his character arc or something
i remember having this one theory that he had a corruption arc (due to dropping his kindness thing towards demons) and i wanted this to be true so badly
but it doesnt exist
not with how the series ended
god
the only thing that saves this fight from being complete trash is tamayoâs poison thing being amazingly executed
and the part where everyone got blasted away, losing limbs and shit, that made things a little more interesting again
but thats it
VS MUZAN (SENGOKU ERA)
[Image Description: Manga panels of Kibutsuji Muzan, Tamayo, and Tsugikuni Yoriichi. The first one has Muzan and Tamayo, while the second one has Yoriichi pulling out his sword. There are text boxes saying âAnd the moment I met him, I understood that I was born into this world to defeat this man.â End Image Description.]
9/10
finally something good again
while short, thatâs just the nature of all of yoriichiâs battles with demons
anyways pretty nice, theres a clear reason why this battle exists (shows the scenario that made the original breather get super close to defeating muzan in detail)
adding tamayo here was a nice touch
my only complaint is that it seemed extremely coincidental that yoriichi somehow developed a breathing style specifically countering muzanâs multiple organs without even knowing prior that he had all those brains and hearts floating around freely in his body
like thats kind of ridiculous, even for yoriichi whos supposed to be âblessed by the godsâ
could just be me though
VS TANJIROU
[Image Description: Manga panels of Kamado Tanjirou in his demon form. The first image has his eyes closed. The second image has his eyes opened and the tumor on his face almost completely faded. There are text boxes around him saying âYou will destroy the demon hunters in my stead.â End Image Description.]
1/10
hoo boy
ok first off, demon tanjirou lasted for 2 chapters
thats it
2 chapters
so thats already a problem
i am aware its meant to parallel the beginning of the series but also its ridiculous how completely vague and rushed this entire thing was
nezuko doesnt do shit through not just this battle but this entire arc which i already explained so not gonna go into it further
kanao magically having a demon cure on her made very little sense
the scene where tanjirou leaves muzan in purgatory is pretty but if you look at it in the context of everything else, its ambiguous and confusing
(if someone could explain it and see how it connects to the original theme of âdemons just being victims of circumstance,â i would love to hear it)
/
actually you know what makes me so mad about this âfightâ as a whole? there was so much potential to do more with this concept
and im not talking about him escaping and nezuko becoming a demon slayer roleswap au (even though its a pretty cool concept)
him becoming a demon could have been a metaphor for his lost kindness and sympathy towards demons halfway through the series
it could have been a punishment for letting his anger towards muzan cloud his judgement
it could have symbolized literally anything about him losing his humanity as he got stronger
but those three things are just scenarios from my head, they dont exist in this series just based off of what weve seen from these two chapters
its disappointing
the only thing keeping this from getting a 0 is the one part where inosuke couldnt chop off tanjirouâs head bc he cared about him too much
that at least shows inosuke had grown as a character
everything else is just meaningless and convoluted garbage and âconvolutedâ is not what you should be aiming for if this is supposed to be the ending of your series
IN SUMMARY
early kny is very good, later kny is questionable and the ending is just a mess of wasted potential and disappointment
i get why gotouge had to have the transparent world ability, crimson blade ability, and the demon marks appear before they all appeared on yoriichi but theyre all just so underdeveloped and terribly handled in the battles they are used, it makes me want to kick a wall
like lmao, i could literally think of so many ways they could have been properly integrated, hell, im even writing a whole goddamn rewrite using my ideas for these three things (link to that is in my pinned)
just, god
if you want to debate over these ratings, my ask box is open ig? idk

S5 Ep10: Kaiba Embarrasses Himself on International Television Again
We start off this duel by teasing us into believing that this is a part of a theme park:
The Kaiba theme park is a weird mix of actual horrorscapes and animal crossing cutesy stuff...you can really tell what parts were Mokuba and what parts were Seto in this park.
But Leon takes it well, just kinda standing there as heâs done this entire arc--being a general forgettable nice boy who just...doesnât do anything. Like he gets up, he plays cards, he sits down. Having him on top of a rock with melodramatic Little Mermaid waves crashing at his feet is laughably the opposite of Leonâs whole vibe.
Leon just seems like the type that listens to coffee shop ambient Youtube videos when he wants to amp himself up. This kid appears to attend a private school...somewhere...I think, and just went to a dueling competition in his school outfit because he literally doesnât have a style of his own hanging in his closet.
Like Yugi wears his school outfit, but he does that ironically, to off-set the amount of makeup and hair spray he has in his hair. Leon wears the school outfit maybe because he admires Yugi so much, but is like âtime for my rogue bow I wear in my hair. Thatâll scare my competition.â He completely missed the point of the 00âČs alt school outfit scene.
I do way too much art to not see the imagery. I feel like this is half my job, and playing âwhereâs the hidden Freudian meaning?â is half the fun of going to any art museum.
(read more under the cut)
Anyway, Seto got tired of no one paying any attention to him, so he stepped out of his 14-monitor mancave, he very quickly pulled his Dragon outfit out of the (dirty) laundry, flicked a couple sea crabs out of his pockets, spritzed it with Febreeze and called it âgood enough.â
Like, is it just me, or has dragon jacket greyed out a tad from last season? Like itâs starting to get a little...worn? Like what funk is coming off of Seto Kaiba right now?
Also notice that he brought his giant stash of cards to the duel. Heâs going to put on this show as if heâs not going to pull out the giant stash of cards. But like...heâs going to pull out the giant stash of cards. Like Hell boring ass Leon is going to play his deck of Candyland characters again.
Leon is declared a winner on Technicality and itâs like.
Damn Seto, for reals?
So congrats, Leon, you did literally nothing, again, and yet you mystifyingly persist on this show. Clearly you arenât going to grow a second head out of that ponytail like professor Quirrel in the last act of this arc.
Thatâs when Yugiâs hazy memory recalls something from the Before Times of âthat time period before I was possessed by a needy ghost that eats up 3/4 of my memories and time.â
So Schroeder is Atari. Neat.
Also, this makes Zigfrieds outfits a hell ton more endearing when you realize heâs this Willy Wonka game company owner making toys for children. Kinda makes you wonder why Setoâs such a stick up the ass in comparison when itâs like--dude Kaiba, maybe you could learn a thing or two about whimsy. It could really help out your inconsistent park.
Anyway, Kaiba quickly realized who hacked the park and so, understandably, he asked Zigried to leave, which...backfired?
Yâall card culture is a lot. Everyone in the audience covered their faces in shame because they were so embarrassed by Seto Kaiba and Iâm like...not sure why? Because he didnât do a duel? Against this guy who snuck into his tourney not unlike Rex and Weevil? This asshole?
Recall that the last time Seto played a guy who had a fake name it was Marik freakin Ishtar and he killed a LOT of people (actually, it was Alister, pretending to be Pegasus, but he also killed a lot of people so that still tracks). Card culture canât seem to learn from their mistakes, although Seto clearly sees the problem with dueling a professional hacker in a digital card game on a hologram that may or may not be able to murder you. At least its not a magic.
And so, tired of being humiliated on television, Seto decides to bust out the dueling gloves (well, not those gloves. You know what I meant) and use the equipment he BROUGHT WITH HIM and clearly never intended not to use in the first place.
(I hope you enjoy this dutch angle that wasnât quite dutch enough, so it just looks like theyâre lounging)
Roland patiently walks over from...somewhere? I donât know where Roland comes from whenever he pops up, but he waltzed over to hold onto this suitcase as if thatâs a formal part of his job.
I say this so often but like...I donât know what Rolandâs job is. Heâs like a valet/butler/duel referee/duel cheerleader/CEO/and I will spend the rest of this series trying to understand it. Part of me is like...could Roland be a temp worker at an agency who just gets rehired for a different Kaiba Corp job every couple of weeks?
That weird ass fourthKaiba, I will never understand Roland.
Just one letter away from being a Zigfriend, Kaiba. Just one letter away. I know this because I misspell friend a LOT.
Zigfreind? Zigfriend? Damn it, both of them look the freakin same to me, this sucks! Why canât I spell friend without autocorrect!?
Just the amount these two fight when Seto clearly barely even remembers who this guy even is.
Leon shows up in the seats, pretending that heâs totally cool about winning on a technicality right after Zigfried went on a rant about how shameful, irredeemable, and mortally embarrassing winning on technicalities are.
He seems to take it pretty well, smiling, sitting next to Rebecca, and then dissolving right into the background because this kidâs whole deal is being way too nice to exist on this show.
Yâall we just had that art meme where people were redrawing that âHow to draw manga faceâ and guys...thatâs what our anime used to look like.
I mean look at that uncomfortable chin there, that tapers in for some reason. Those eyes melting off of her face. The lack of any 3d sense. This was an anime ideal for a very, very long time.
Anyway, the âhow to draw manga faceâ is a perfect masterpiece and never needs to change. (But it is fun to make fun of it although I guess the person that drew it was actually a kid, which makes sense from a publishing perspective to have a kid make a book about how to draw stuff for kids.)
We see a little flashback of Schroeder and why he hates Seto Kaiba, and can I just say, I kind of love this little outfit. Kind of a shame that itâs stuffed into a flashback.
Which is when we found out that Zigfried thinks Seto Kaiba did a plagiarism.
Which is hilarious because it was Gozaburo Kaiba who was plagiarizing Seto, so like...who did it first?
OK guys. Lets talk about this.
APPARENTLY, there was some sort of contest to work with Pegasus...kind of like an architecture contest (which is a thing, when a city is doing a big project, they send out a call, and big firms will compete to see who builds it) and I GOTTA know what Pegasusâ theme was.
Like did he say to all the little rich kid geniuses âI would like something that makes my cards ALIVE, can you do that?â Then when Pegasus got a hell ton of holograms and was he like âBut ALIVE--it makes it alive, right boy?â And when he was shaking the hands of each stupid kid was he like âSo if I hypothetically put my dead wife on a card and slapped it into the machine--could she EXIST. Like...enough? I just need her to legally exist is all, and not like..literally of course...but enough literally to be a sin against God, can you do that?â
I just want to know if Willy Wonka Wonderkid Von Schroeder had any idea he was creating a resurrection chamber for a dark wizard. Like he has no idea that he dodged getting his business bought straight from under him and his soul shoved into a card. And itâs not like Schroeder was going to abduct Yugiâs Grandpa and ensure that Yugi would be there to save him down the road. Like Iâm pretty sure Schroeder would have been sacrificed waaay before that whole island contest even went down.
Zigfried got so freakin lucky. I canât believe heâs mad. But then again...
...the man swims in milk pools so like...maybe his logic center is busted? Maybe he wanted to die in a horrific murder island? I don't know what Zigfried is into, but I do know that because Zigfried doesnât have millennium rod powers linking him to the millennium eye--so would it have mattered? Thereâs destiny reasons that Pegasus chose Kaiba.
Course...we never found out where the scales ended up, have we? We think itâs Shadi, but have we seen Shadi bust those out since Season Zero?
Man that would be a good plot twist that will absolutely not happen.
Yo, make horse guy into a dark wizard, show, I dare you!
Anyway, thatâs all for now, but if you want to read from the beginning, hereâs the link:

hot take on the recent chapters
I came up with this while I was on too little sleep & after a friend caught up to the manga, itâs really long and I hope it makes sense - so, enjoy!Â
I think what is happening right now, might be Ymir trying to re-establish her former form.
Because Eren has three out of nine titans right now - Attack, Founding, Warhammer. The Founding Titan was the very first of all titans before Ymir started gathering/creating all those other abilities.Â
We currently have this written/known about it specifically on the official wiki page:
Its Scream can create and control other Titans, and modify the memories and body compositions of the Subjects of Ymir, but this power can only be used by the royal family under normal circumstances.
According to Marley's Titan Biology Research Society, the Founding Titan is the point where the paths that connect all Subjects of Ymir and Titans cross.
We have been known that only the royal family can properly use it, which is why Eren only managed to use the Founding when touching Dina Fritz's titan (the one that ate his mother) to protect Mikasa after Hannes was devoured and then when coming in contact with Zeke, seeing as he is from royal blood as well. However, the royal family is bound by a vow and the ideology of Karl Fritz - basically, he wanted the Eldians to be locked up and separated from the world because they had been too involved in wars before. So he wanted to protect them, essentially.
The vow is renouncing war to stop Eldia from using the Founding Titan to devastate the world ever again and it possesses the individual to follow the idea. That is why Frieda, even though she viewed the Eldians as sinners, still followed that protocol.
Now, with Grisha devouring Frieda and gaining the Founding Titan and passing it on to Eren, the chain of royal blood inheritors was broken. Which is why, paired with Erens own ideology to go behind the walls and see the world, Ymir zeroed her interest in him as it's seen in the recent chapters.
She herself wasn't of royal blood and being used to fight wars for that king in the backstory most likely built a hatred for humanity in her view - she was viewed as that slave, of which Eren broke her free. He's the only inheritor that hasn't been shaped and controlled by that ideology of King Fritz that she could get her hands on, so she can twist his views or add her own to it in having to destroy the world and humanity in it.
I think that she's using Eren as a vessel to collect all titans. He already has three, and with every other shifter present right now - Armin (colossal), Reiner (armored), Annie (female), Falco (jaw), Pieck (cart) and Zeke (Beast) - she can take them prisoner and force them to join with Eren.Â
She basically already has Zeke in her control, having lured him into paths with Eren, and she just took Armin prisoner with another previous titan. Why else would she take him prisoner and bring him to "Eren's ass" as Levi said and separate them by a hoard of powerful, controlled titan shifters if not to ensure they don't get him back until she has taken all of them captive? She knows how powerful Levi and Mikasa are - most likely through Eren's memories. She most likely wants to create a vessel with all nine titans again to merge with Eren fully, maybe even devour him herself, to use her full former strength to get back on humanity and make them pay.
In the first chapter about her backstory it's shown that she was being punished and chased to her "death" because she let the pigs escape - in the last chapter 135, however, in the very first panel, it's shown that she willingly opened the gate to let them escape. She wanted them to run away. Whether or not it was planned that she'd be chased like that and would tumble into the tree trunk is questionable, but I think it has to do with it.
To add to my suspicion of not killing the current inheritors of the nine titans because she needs them later on, look at chapters 114-115 specifically.
Zeke blew himself up in the scene with Levi, and that entirely. He was torn in half. His spine was destroyed and therefore the titan in him "lost" because he had no one to pass it on to. He accepted that he'd die, told himself that. He did die.
But Ymir brought him back. She rebuilt his body and brought him back to life - if she really did that out of pure selflessness and devotion to her people, why didn't she do it with Levi? He's Eldian, too, technically, even if he's an Ackermann.
But Ackermanns are a byproduct and made to protect the royal family, and if we follow my thing right here, then she hated the royal family - she was forced to marry the king and give him offspring, after all. And she was nothing but a child. And she knew how dangerous Levi was - so she planned for him to die while rescuing Zeke, because she had a plan for him while Levi would have only endangered that.
In chapter 110, Zacharias refuses Mikasa and Armin to go see Eren - and promptly dies in an explosion. This might be a hot take, but I think Eren might have ordered someone to do so (because Ymir made him?) - because she needed to split the bond between them. And afterward, Eren escaped. Maybe it was used as a maneuver to get the attention off of him.
In chapter 112 he returns to meet Mikasa and Armin in the table scene - already threatening to transform if they make any move. "I am free. Whatever I do, whatever I choose. I do it out of my own free will."
That's what he says, entirely unprompted really. He proceeds to tell Armin that he's the one being controlled by Bertholt, and I think that mirrors the situation properly. Because it could serve as a parallel that it's not Armin but Eren controlled by "the enemy".
In that chapter, Eren effectively cuts all of the bonds to his friends even though in a few chapters before (when discussing who will inherit his titan once his time is over) he claims to care about them more than anything. And he does. He cares incredibly, he's a very emotional person - but suddenly, all of his emotions are gone. Seems fishy. â
He cuts Mikasa off by telling her he's hated her for his whole life, knowing it's her weak spot. He beats Armin up, knowing it's his weak spot because Eren was always there to take hits for him when he got beaten up as a child.
Once again, I think that's Ymir taking control of his memories and using them against him. That, or Eren used those purposefully to get them away from him and out of the danger zone, knowing that he's a time bomb.
In that chapter, it is thickly laid on that Eren "hates" slaves. "Do you know what I hate most in this world? Anyone who isn't free. That, or cattle. Just looking at them made me so angry, now I finally understand why. I couldn't stand to look at an undoubting slave who only ever followed orders."
Maybe, once again, that is Ymir speaking - she was reduced to a slave, and her creation of a titan made to fight was broken down by a vow the Eldian King created. The following inheritors only ever accepted that fate and didn't do anything to break free from it.Â
In chapter 130 when Eren tells Historia his plan, he says the following:Â
"The only way to put a final end to the cycle of revenge born from hate is to remove that history of hate from this world and bury it in the ground, civilisation and all." - he knows it's a repeating process, possibly because of previous memories handed down to him through the Attack Titan and looking through the royal bloodline with the Founding Titan (first seen when he kissed Historia's hand).
The cycle of revenge born from hate - gotta keep that in mind, cause I think it's very important looking at all of his actions.Â
There's this constant reference with his friends. In so many flashbacks, it tells us that Eren wants his friends to have happy lives. To be free. To live long. He adores his friends and loves them with all of his heart. So why tell them he hates them? Why beat them? Why get them involved in all of this?Â
Because it isn't him saying those things, and if it is there's more behind it.
In chapter 131 he apologizes to a child for everything he is about to do before it even happens. Maybe because he saw the outcome of it all?
He knows how much he will hurt the world and people, but he does it anyway because he needs this cycle to end.
I'm not fully sure what the rest of his apology means, talking about how he was disappointed learning that people lived in the outside world. But what I do think is important is the last panel in that chapter, this one:
It views Eren with his eyes shut. Just his head. Usually, whenever he controls his titan, his eyes are open. His own body moves to control the titan. Here it isn't, though. I feel like that symbolizes how it's not him.
We established that he's a very emotion bound person that often rejects logic to follow his heart - he doesn't have his heart here. He can't listen to it. If you are manipulated the source of that manipulation always tries to break your mind first. Rob you of your beliefs and make you follow others.Â
The contrast is right then and there - why would he apologies in tears to a child he doesn't know at all and explain his intentions and beliefs when once it happens, and once the child is murdered, he doesn't show any reaction?
Sure, one could argue that he's not conscious after his head was shot off, but who caused the jump and transformation into the titan if not Eren? Possibly Ymir.Â
It is shown that the user has to focus on that goal to transform, as in season one with Eren and the well, so either Eren was conscious enough - somewhat doubtful - or Ymir had full control of him then and there already as soon as he stepped into paths.
In chapter 133 Reiner says something important; "If it was me, I'd probably.. want someone else to handle the power of the founder by now. And if I couldn't, I'd want it to be stopped by someone."
There's pretty much a direct contrast once again - are Eren and the Rumbling controlled by someone else? In my opinion, yes.Â
Does he want someone else to stop it? He most likely does, why else would Mikasa, Armin, and co be able to move freely? Ymir not so much.Â
I feel like he's putting up a resistance to them, which is why she can't control them properly despite them being Eldians.Â
They get thrown into paths then, and when they see Eren it's him but his younger version. Around nine or ten, probably.
What I think happened here is that Ymir is keeping him trapped in a younger version of himself - similar to that one time he was wrapped up in blankets in his home and Armin was knocking on the window behind him, trying to shake him awake and conscious again.
She's keeping his conscience reminded of good memories to hold him there and be able to move freely with his body - like I said, she's using him as a vessel to push her actions, her dream, her ideal world and outcome into his hands.
"In order to gain my own freedom, I will take freedom away from the world." Sounds a lot like something Ymir could have been saying, in my opinion. But then again, who knows.
This panel is also important:
Eren, in his young form, is simply standing next to Ymir. And he doesn't do anything. He doesn't react or recognize his friends, and most importantly, he mirrors how Ymir is standing in the exact same way.
She's mirroring herself onto him, projecting her conscience onto his body. It proceeds with "If you want to stop me, then try to stop me from ever taking another breath" - once again, and I cannot stress this enough, Ymir uses Eren's memories against him.
She knows his friends won't risk him dying. She knows they would do anything to protect him. This is her playing it safe; they won't kill him, ergo they won't stop her from continuing her plan by using him.Â
Now in the recent chapter, she's standing on top of his spine and it becomes very clear that she's controlling it all. She's building former titan shifters from his spine, and controlling them to separate the team from Eren's location - and Armin's, most likely even Zeke's.Â
She figured out that they won't give up until they found Eren and can talk to him, so she creates that barrier that she's sure they won't manage to surpass. Not with limited supplies.Â
When Pieck becomes a danger, she eliminates her by impaling her on that trident - but she doesn't injure her beyond conscience or in a threatening state. She specifically uses Galliard and Berthold against Reiner, and throws those two on him to damage him in his abilities and trick his mind, to manipulate him.
Armin says it himself:Â "If Eren is only attacking onward like he said he would then this resistance is coming from Ymir."Â If Eren is attacking onward to follow the goal to end the cycle, then Ymir is the one bringing all the complications. They might work hand in hand, but I do strongly believe that all of the complications are solely on Ymir. Eren never wanted to risk hurting his friends.
In fact, and this is if he is conscious enough to pull any strings right now, I think he might be setting things up to ensure that his friends are the ones that kill him.Â

My Review of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni GOU
(a.k.a. When They Cry Gou)
I know what youâre thinking. Why the heck am I reviewing this anime again? Iâve already written a review in 2009 and re-polished it in 2016. (Here it is BTW) Iâve made my point on who I like, hate, what ships are worthy, and poked fun at all the deaths that happened throughout the series. I think some time has passed that I should say some thoughts on thisâŠum, story. After all, Higurashi is one of my favorite animes.
STORY: Ah shit, here we go again!
Higurashi or When They Cry is about a boy named Keiichi Maebara who recently moved to a place called Hinamizawa. And ever since moving to this town, heâs found his days are filled with fun mischief with fellow friends Rena Ryuuguu, Satoko Hojo, Mion Sonozaki, and Rika Furude. But little does Keiichi know that thereâs a little murder mystery that surrounds the town. During a town festival known as Watanagashi (or Cotton Drifting), thereâs usually one or two people that go missing or turn up dead. And this year, Keiichi is next. So letâs relive the horrors that plague the town of Hinamizawa andâŠ
One episode later.
Wait, what theâŠ?! Itâs episode 2, why are we seeing Hanyuu? I donât remember that in the manga. The visual! THE VISUAL! WHAT THE FUCK?! ISNâT THIS SUPPOSED TO BE A REBOOT? WHAT THE FUCK?! WHAT THE FUCK?! WHY IS THERE AN ADULT RIKA?! WAIT, IS THAT ADULT RIKA OR BERN? IS THIS GOING TO BE THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE TO THE WITCHES OF UMINEKO?! THE SHADOWS IN THE OPENING ARE TOO FAMILIAR FROM OTHER WORKS! Ryukishi07, you magnificent, fucking troll master for keeping this hidden until the second episodeâs air date!
Many of us did not see this coming. When they announced a new Higurashi series that was going to be done by a different studio, many of us speculated whether this was going to be a reboot or a sequel. But then we got the PV trailers and it looked like we were going to get a reboot to correct the mistakes Studio Deen made years ago. Rikaâs head doesnât look like its gonna snap off because her body is so small in comparison. Improvements! I mean, they showed everything we were already used to like the yandere girls, the original soundtrack, the original freakinâ cast, and death by baseball bat. Hell, the first episode ended with an Eiko Shimamiya song! It was on track to being a reboot! A better looking reboot!
Here in lies the sequel aspect! After episode one, we get a scene that isnât usually seen until the Kai part of Higurashi (a good 4-5 arcs away). And they give away the secret that Rika Furude is repeating the timeline of June 1983 over and over because she keeps dying. And as the series progresses, you notice little things different from the original series. Many of the well-known storylines end much differently than what you remember. Instead of Keiichi killing Rena and Mion with a baseball bat, youâve got Rena going psycho on Keiichi. And Rikaâs fate is somehow worse than the stories of the original series. So letâs head back to Hinamizawa to hear the cicadas cry and watch a murder mystery unfold.
THE SUB: All the original voice actors have returned to voice their respected roles. Perfection in a nutshell!
LICENSING: Youâve gotta be shitting me!
As Iâve mentioned years ago in my review, the original Higurashi anime went through a turbulent time being licensed in the states. It was originally licensed and dubbed by Geneon. But once Geneon collapsed, FUNimation licensed it and did absolutely fuck all with it. Geneon could only manage to squeak out one season. At this point, FUNimation was picking up titles that Geneon used to have before it fell under including Familiar of Zero, Kyou Kara Maou, and yes, Higurashi. All of these titles mentioned here were done absolutely nothing with despite having cult followings, second seasons, and OVAâs.
A year or two after licensing it, the license expired for Higurashi. For nearly six years, the only copies you could get were out of print and estimating at $500 at the very least for a full collection. Single DVDâs could be found in rare shops, but it would take like 13 years to complete the fucking collection if you did it that way. And that was only for the first season. Second season, the best all of us could do was bootleg DVDâs from Japan Town or fansubs with glaring errors for the best season to Higurashi. We had to deal with this shit until Sentai Filmworks licensed and released the first 2 seasons and the Rei OVAâs.
AND NOW YOUâRE TELLING ME FUNIMATION IS CLAIMING HIGURASHI ALL FOR THEMSELVES?!
Where the shit was this love 10 years ago when we were asking politely to release Kai? People ignorantly blew Higurashi off for years because season two was never released in the states until 2016 because they thought the damn anime ended after Rena held up the school. Iâm already irritated with FUNimation after the Interspecies Reviewers debacle and Iâm still quite butt-hurt over them re-releasing Nichijou with a dub to make a quick buck. Licensing Higurashi just brings back old anger. Donât get me wrong, Iâm happy Higurashi is legally licensed and can be seen on at the very least Hulu. Itâs just that I hold grudges and this was a big one.
THE DUB: HolyâŠum, okay! This is a rather big gulp to take in. As Iâve repeatedly mentioned in past reviews, the Higurashi dub was a mixed bag of okay, bad, and oh gasperts kill it with fire. So, not great! The good folks at Geneon (before bankrupting in America) dubbed the first season with a good chunk of folks that put their fake names to the credits. Again, not great! To me, there were some aspects of Megan Hollingshed, Mela Lee, and Grant Georgeâs performances of Mion, Rena, and Keiichi that were okay. SOME! John Snyder and Karen Strassmen as Ooishi and Takano were the best out of that dub. Everything else was just irredeemable! It needed a redub, an overhaul, and a spit-shine. For years, Iâve wondered who would be the dream cast. Sentai Filmworks unfortunately never dubbed the remaining seasons when they released them. Would Luci Christian be the heavenly voice to do Rika Furude? Could we get Hilary Haag to do Satoko? Okay, that never came to pass.
This dub is a breath of fresh air. Rika doesnât sound like Mihoshi. Satoko doesnât sound fake, Keiichi doesnât sound like a weird Sonic the Hedgehog. Itâs perfect. ESPECIALLY BRITTANY LAUDA AS SATOKO! I knew the second she was cast as Satoko that she was going to excel the fuck out of this role. And I was not disappointed! The only voice Iâm still not quite used to is Michelle Rojas as the Sonozaki twins. Probably because I was somewhat okay with Megan Hollingshedâs voice in the 2006 version that itâll take some time! And we FINALLY got a voice for Hanyuu. I am super excited that Xanthe Huynh is the voice and I know sheâll do great with this role! With all of that said, hereâs what you might recognize these folks from.
*Keiichi is now played by Khoi Dao (known for Kiriyama on March Comes in Like a Lion, Murata on Demon Slayer, Chaka on Jojoâs Bizarre Adventure Pt. 3, and Iskhan on SAO: Alicization)
*Rena is now played by Emi Lo
*Mion/Shion is now played by Michelle Rojas (known for Shizu Delta on Overlord, Touka on Assassination Classroom, Minase on Psycho Pass, Kanan on Love Live Sunshine, and Kusakai on Keijo!!!!!!!!)
*Rika is now played by Apphia Yu (known for Rio on Assassination Classroom, Marie on Black Clover, You on Love Live Sunshine, Victorique on Gosick, Natsumi on Danganronpa 3, and Laki on Fairy Tail)
*Satoko is now played by Brittany Lauda (known for Riko on Made in Abyss, Meidri on Interspecies Reviewers, Lessar on Index III, and Ichigo on Darling in the FranXX)
*Hanyuu is played by Xanthe Huynh (known for Menma on Anohana, Haru on Persona 5, Hanayo on Love Live, Hidomi on FLCL: Progressive, PallaPalla on Sailor Moon Super S [redub], and Sachi on SAO)
ANY CHANGES IN YOUR HATE-O-RADE:
Okay Medea, let-a-rip!
*inhales and exhales*
Teppei Hojo is trash. He is ultimate trash. This fucker needs to be murdered in every timeline. He is a turd in a Glenn Quagmire shirt. Him and his wife are trash. And when this pile of trash is cheating on that pile of trash, he sleeps with peak trash named Ritsuko. Teppei Hojo needs to die in every timeline. Whenever Keiichi bashes this cum-burgerâs head in with a blunt instrument, I scream at the top of my lungs, âDIE SCUM, DIEâ! And nothing, I repeat, NOTHING will change my opinion of Teppei Hojo.
Episode 23.
Oh, fuck you Higurashi Gou!
MUSIC: Okay, thank you for proving me wrong. I did not despise the opening theme. Having Higurashi with no Eiko Shimamiya is like having Pokemon with no Rika Matsumoto. Or Rozen Maiden with no ALI PROJECT. But this new opening is fine by my standards.
Thatâs right, get the niceness of the review before I get angry down below.
THESE TIMELOOPS: Rika tries to find solutions to end her time-loop in June 1983. Much like the original series, we follow stories from the Onikakushi-hen, Watanagashi-hen, and Tatarigoroshi-hen arcs (the first three stories to Higurashi, although now these have different names). However, all of these arcs have different endings. And after a positive turnaround with Satoko escaping from her abusive uncle, shit goes south when Detective Ooishi, who up to this point has never suffered under the Hinamizawa Syndrome or died a painful death goes on a murderous rampage. Higurashi style! That means, heâs after Rika Furude, will slaughter anyone in his way, and scratching his neck because he sees maggots (part of the hallucination effect).
What the shit? Ooishi for the most part has been a great guy. With the exception of the Tatarigoroshi-hen storyline, he was a nice guy! In the limbo with Hanyuu, Rika now remembers who has killed her. Every time Rika dies up to this point, she never remembers who was the cause of her demise. Hanyuu implanted that power to remember the deaths and a clue for Rika to use and then she disappears.
Now seriously, imagine Rikaâs plight here. She has been repeating the month of June 1983 for over a hundred years. And each of these times she repeats, sheâs horribly murdered. Rika got the shit-end of the deal in the murder department in the original series, including being dissected on while alive. Then, leaving her bloody, naked corpse out in the open of the Oyashiro altar! Sheâs tired of this shit! She wants to live a happy life away from Hinamizawa. She wants to grow older, become a teenager, and have fun. And this series made it worse by having her die four times in one episode. Not just that, but murdered by the most unexpected people including Akasaka, Chief Kimiyoshi, Mionâs mother Akane, and Keiichi. Keiichi has never killed Rika in any of the timelines up to this point. He has killed Mion and Rena, but never Rika. Keiichi loves Rika! Welcome back to A Million Ways to Die in Hinamizawa.
Iâll just add decapitation, drowning in a lake, set on fire, drowning in a sewage pipe, and death byâŠumâŠ
Alexa, play Chandelier by Sia.
ENDING: We all know by now that in the original series, Miyo Takano is the betrayer and the reason behind all the murders during the Cotton Drifting Festival. This time, itâs someone closer to Rika thatâs causing Rika so much pain. After we watched the worst kinds of murders happen to Rika, the episode after gave us our answer. Satoko, Rikaâs friend and confidant is not happy that Rika is turning her back on Oyashiro and Hinamizawa. All the while pulling out her intestines!
Oh Higurashi, donât stop being gory!
Yes, Satoko is aware of past timelines much like Rika and is almost on a god-like state. So what the hell happened to her? I know Satokoâs past has been a cluster-fuck of horror with her brother disappearing, her parents dying, and every form of abuse from her uncle. But she was able to prevail after all that. After surviving 1983, a lot has changed in Hinamizawa. The three big families of Hinamizawa put an end to the Cotton Drifting Festival and claiming there is no curse of Oyashiro. Mion and Shion moved on and are going to high school. And Rika decides she wants to move away from this village. By attending St. Lucia! And she wants to do this with Satoko.
Oh, if you donât recall St. Lucia, Shion attended this academy until she escaped during the Meakashi-hen arc. It was also the same school that Ange from Umineko attended. But of course Ange attended it in the 90âs and we are clearly in the 80âs. Moving on!
Rika and Satoko studied their butts off for years and their hard work paid off as both were admitted into St. Lucia. Now Rika was able to prevail and fit in with everyone. Satoko on the other hand couldnât do the same as her grades took a dip, her manners are atrocious, and she doesnât seem to fit in with anyone. And this caused a drift between Rika and Satoko! And so during a trip to Hinamizawa, Satoko went to the old shrine where she ended up getting sent to that limbo place Rika and Hanyuu were at many times before. There, she meets Eua (God, I hope that really isnât her name). Sheâs much like Hanyuu except a lot more condescending. Oh, and sheâs that mysterious shadow during the opening theme. She bestows the power to Satoko of reviving on death and returning to a certain point in time. In the hopes that Satoko is able to stop Rika from going to St. Lucia! But Rika is not going to budge. She wants out of Hinamizawa no matter what. And Satoko just wants to be with her friend no matter what. Satoko is even shown Rikaâs past and still no dent inâŠOkay, this is bugging the fuck outta me. Pause the Ending portion!
MY GRIPES WITH SATOKO: Satoko, girl, the fuck is wrong with you?! I know Rika is like your main chick and everything, but for fuckâs sake loosen the grip you have with Rika. This season has changed you and not for the better. You made a connection with ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS from Hinamizawa. Big connections! At least in the original series you did. Look at your moments with Keiichi and Shion. Are you just going to shove them off? And what really sets me off is that Satoko literally had the opportunity to learn about Rikaâs hundred yearâs loop of death. And feels nothing about it! Only that itâs a challenge to break her herself! God damn, at the end of season one, Keiichi learned the truth and he was remorseful. This bitch doesnât care that her friends were murdered in such a way. And Rikaâs been shot in the head, had a live dissection performed on her, and other forms of tortureâŠAND IT DOESNâT FAZE SATOKO!
I know in my original Higurashi review, I felt sorry for Satoko as she did seem to get the short-end of the stick living in Hinamizawa. I mean, her parents died right in front of her, she suffered abuse from her uncle, abuse from her aunt, ostrisized by the town for years, and a myriad of all types of shit to befall her. But Higurashi Gou has ruined this character. Rika didnât really do anything wrong to Satoko. She didnât snitch on her when Satoko got in trouble. She offered help to Satoko when she thought her grades were slipping. Satoko just held onto this petty vendetta. Satoko acted like Rika sexually assaulted her and have two other people gang rape her while drugging her. Okay, thatâs a call for revenge, not your petty shit.
YOU SEE WHERE IâM AT WITH YOU SATOKO?! Your actions are so bad that you have me siding with the protagonist from Redo of Healer.
REDO.
OF.
HEALER!!!
Iâm done with you! Girl, bye! We now return you to my talk about the ending already in progress.
BACK TO THE ENDING: Sorry, had to get that off my chest. Yeah, Satoko is leaving a bad impression on many of us who have been following the Higurashi story for years. And it just gets worse as she uses her new power for petty shit and abusing it at that. I mean, we saw Rika use her power in order to find a way to live past June 1983. Satoko is just using that shit to win some games and have things go her way. What else could this series bless us with? How about an epiphany from Teppei Hojo?
What?!
Teppei changes for the better.
What?!
Look, I admit that these moments with Teppei and Satoko were tame compared to the shit sheâs pulled in the last several episodes. But this is Teppei Hojo! The same guy that used Satoko as his personal punching bag! The same guy who fleeced Renaâs father! The same guy many of us who cheer every time we see him on a moped because we know someoneâs going to bash his head in with a baseball bat. Even my best friend knows how I am with this guy. When she gave me Higurashi free swag, I took everything except for Teppei. I donât take trash. So seeing him so remorseful makes meâŠconflicted.
So now Satokoâs got things turned around for her. Her uncle hasâŠchanged?! Add to that, her God-like power. Satoko decides to change the past for her own advantage. This includes changing one of the biggest stories in Higurashi Kai with the kids vs. Miyo Takano. If Rika doesnât experience the pain in those timelines, she wonât think about leaving Hinamizawa. And if she doesnât leave Hinamizawa, sheâll stay with Satoko forever.
Oh what a tangled web of crazy Higurashi Gou was! I gotta tell you, Higurashi got me excited all the way up until we learn it was Satoko. And then it went straight to Hell. They turned Satoko into a straight-up selfish monster. Totally unlike the Satoko weâve all grown to love in the original series. Yes, Satoko had those moments where, yeah, you would want to throw a chair at her and beat her ass with it. But that was only temporary! You would always see the good in Satoko despite that mischievous laugh and those episodes in Higurashi Rei. And God help me, I was a shipper of Rika x Satoko 10 years ago. Not a big one, but a supporter of it. Now, I would rather support Amourshipping from Pokemon than root for this. And I despise the living fuck out of Amourshipping. That should tell you something!
If original Satoko were bestowed the powers from Eua, I think things would be different. Satoko would probably use her powers to prevent all the bad stuff from happening to her friends and to her brother Satoshi. I mean, my goodness, not once did I see her think, hey maybe I should find a way to help my ailing brother. Change a few timelines, make him all better! And of course, feel sympathy for Rikaâs plight. Do it for Rikaâs sake, not your own selfish desires! Rika has died horrificly for hundreds of years. And I seriously just canât get over Satokoâs reaction to that when she learned the truth. Instead, she wants to treat Rika like a caged bird. Best friend my ass!
Now can Higurashi SOTSU fix the hot mess of Satoko? Time will only tell! And good on them for having Higurashi air in the summertime. Summertime is for Higurashi! Autum is for Umineko. Speaking of, itâs been since 2009. Any chance you want to give Umineko the old reboot or sequel it sorely needs? Oh forget it! My likeness for this season is conflicted. I was annoyed by it, but I didnât fully hate it. Itâs just that last arc with Satoko really burned my beans. And Iâm sure a lot of you all feel the same way.
Guys, if you want to watch Higurashi Gou, do yourselves a favor and watch the original series first. Let that swirl around your heads for a while. I know the creator tricked us at the beginning of this series thinking it was going to be an honest-to-God retelling. It is not! It is a sequel. And a sequel that isnât based off a game or manga of all things. So fans are jumping into this with eyes closed! And if youâre a fan of Satoko Hojo, Iâm sorry. Iâm just sorry.
If you want to check out Higurashi Gou, it is available to watch on FUNimation and Hulu. But please, if you havenât watched the original series, go to HI-DIVE now and watch âWhen They Cryâ and âWhen They Cry Kaiâ. I think you can manage without watching any of the OVAâs.
Iâd rather watch that Kira OVA where the fanservice is thin, you can practically lick off the whipped cream from the Sonozakiâs tit.
That should tell you something if Iâm starting to say something nice about Higurashi Kira.
See you in a few months when Higurashi SOTSU comes out.

Krillin for the character ask :)
Give me a character and I will answer:
Why I like them: Itâd be easy for me to say âheâs just a good dudeâ and leave it at that.  I think people would agree with that statement, but I think it runs deeper than that.  The thing that stuck with me about Krillin was when I was checking out the bonus features on the Movie 6 DVD I bought in 2002 or whenever, and they had an interview with Sonny Strait where he explained that Krillin only got into martial arts to impress girls, and that was the same reason Sonny got into voice acting.   Maybe Iâm misremembering that, but it always stuck with me.  Â
Krillin wants things out of life, and unlike a lot of the other characters, heâs not looking to get them by wishing on a magic dragon.  He wants to become worthy of the things he wants, and he may not always be sure of how to get there, he knows that he has to become more than he is. Â
Recently, Iâve been seeing excerpts from Barack Obamaâs book, where he talks about reading up on subjects to try, unsuccessfully, to get girls to like him in college.   I think the idea was that he was trying to be self-effacing, but it hasnât gone over very well. Iâm not sure if the problem was that he wasnât being self-effacing enough, or if thereâs something more sinister about reading Karl Marx just in case it helps your odds of getting noticed.   Iâm not going to wade into that controversy, except to say that it reminded me of Krillin. Â
Is it shallow to have self-serving reasons to improve yourself?  Did I just answer my own question?  The point Iâm making here is that itâs a useful motivator.   Krillin has self-esteem issues, and he joined the Orin Temple and then Kame House to try to overcome them.  He thought âIf I just get really good at this one thing, then people will like me.â  And we can say âOh, no, it doesnât work that way, Krillin, people like you because youâre a such a good person, and besides, it doesnât matter how good you are at martial arts.â Â
Okay, fine, letâs assume thatâs true, and Krillin deceived himself by training in martial arts.   Oh no!  He put in all that work, and all he got out of it was... being the strongest human on Earth.  Shoot.   He made himself a better person for nothing.
The reality is that I donât think he would be as well-liked if he hadnât gone down this road, simply because people wouldnât have gotten to know him.  Thatâs really what itâs about.  Itâs easy to say that youâre liked for âwho you are on the insideâ, but what people really want is to be noticed long enough to be liked for who they are.   And sometimes you gotta take a long look at yourself and say âI need to do something to grab peopleâs attention.â
And sometimes, in order to motivate yourself into that kind of work, you have to play that trick on yourself.   âJust think, if I put in those extra reps in the gym, the ladiesâll be all over me!â  And it never actually happens, but it gets you through that workout, and the next, and the next, and the next. Â
I think we can all relate to that.  Iâm writing this because three people asked me to, and Iâm sort of hoping a few more will see it and like what I wrote.  I try to get better, because I like the rush of validation that comes with it.  And if I donât get it, well, boo-hoo, I wrote a few hundred words about Krillin, a subject I enjoy writing about.  Itâs a no-lose situation, and thereâs some non-zero chance that attractive single women might see this and decide to slide into my DMs.   Itâs a tiny chance, hardly worth mentioning, but itâs a lot higher than if I just sit in my apartment and stare at the wall.  Â
Why I donât: Ocean Dub Krillin really rubbed me the wrong way, because they wrote and voice directed the character to be really nebbishy.  That wouldnât necessarily make him a bad character, but it definitely conflicted with what you see on the screen, where heâs stepping to Nappa, Vegeta, Dodoria, and everything else he has to deal with.   Once Sonny got the role, everything turned out cool. Mondo cool, if you will.
I suppose I should point out the flip side of what I wrote above. Krillinâs so focused on being worthy that he fails to recognize his achievements.  Thatâs admirable in its way, but it also makes you worry about the guy.   Like, he knows 18 is crazy about him, right?  Wait, does Obama know people like him?  Do I? Oh I might have made myself sad there for a minute, excuse me.
Favorite episode (scene if movie):
Probably the moment he tries to take on Super Buu all by himself.  One of the cool things about Krillin is that heâs taken on every major villain from Piccolo Junior to Buu, despite being outclassed.   I think the Super Buu thing is the best one, though, because in that situation thereâs literally no chance of anyone jumping in to save him.   His entire plan is to hold off Buu for a few seconds and maybe buy a few minutes for the others. Heâs doomed and he knows it wonât even work as a diversion, but he still jumps in anyway.   It proves that this is who he is.   When thereâs literally no one left to impress, and nothing left to gain, heâll still play things out the same way. Â
Favorite season/movie: The Androids/Cell Saga is probably his best material overall, just because of his conflicted feelings regarding 18, and the difficult choices he makes because of that.  You can make a strong case for the Namek Saga, where itâs literally just Krillin and Bulma and Gohan, so he has to take the lead by default, but Iâm just not that into the Namek Saga.
Favorite line:
This is really more from one of the video games.  I think Budokai 3, but Iâm not sure.  Piccolo demands custody of Gohan and Krillinâs like âNo way, youâre probably gonna eat him or something!â and Iâm pretty sure this wasnât in the Ocean Dub, so it completely caught me off-guard, like it was the last thing I expected Krillin to say.  And then Piccolo comes back with âIâm not going to eat him!â like heâs offended at the very suggestion.  As a runner-up, I dig that part in DBZA 54, where Trunks and Vegeta are both reeling from their losses to Perfect Cell, and Krillin reminds them that they donât have to posture around him, because itâs just him... âKrillin.   Everyoneâs friend.â
Favorite outfit: Thatâs easy.
Yeah, the Frieza Soldier armor looked mighty good on this dude, and the cop uniform does too, and the classic Turtle Hermit outfit is a signature look, but this, right here, is the Krillin for me.   My manâs got the blue shirt under his orange shirt.   No more of the Yamcha slipppers.  Those look great on Yamcha, donât get me wrong, but Krillin needs those big chunky Goku boots, because theyâre perfect for stomping those pesky girlfriend-exploding remotes.  Fellas, this is the ideal male body.   You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.  Â
OTP: Maron HAHAHAHAHAHA oh wow.  No. Itâs 18, obviously.
Brotp: Clearly Goku is his bro, but itâs not surprising at all how effortlessly he gets along with just about everyone else.  Heâs bros with the entire world.
Head Canon: Iâm pretty sure the Maron/Marron thing was just a coincidence in real life.  Maron the girlfriend was a filler character, and Marron the daughter was introduced in the manga some time later, and both used the same naming convention to end up in the same place.  However, I choose to believe that Krillin actually named his kid after his ex, and he somehow convinced 18 to go along with that idea.  Â
By that, I donât mean he had to sweet talk her into it or promise a bunch of stuff in exchange.   I mean he must have discussed what to name their kid, and 18 was like âYour ex-girlfriend?  Seriously?â and he was like âYeah, I know sheâs a ditz, but you gotta understand I was in a really low place and she helped me through it.â  Or something like that, where once he lays out the whole reason 18âČs like âYeah, you know what?  Okay.âÂ
Or maybe Maron helped deliver the baby or something.  Or she was the surrogate mother?  Holy shit I might be onto something.
Unpopular opinion: Krillin clanks when he walks, due to the solid brass balls heâs got.
youtube
A wish: They should do a movie where Krillin just fights Frieza and wins.  Decisively, undisputably, irrevocably.  Krillin is stronger than Frieza from that point forward.   I donât care if that means nerfing Frieza or godmodding Krillin, but I just want it made plain that if they use Frieza from here on, it has to be with the understanding that Krillin can whip his ass at any time. Â
That might sound silly, and I guess it is, but you see what this accomplishes, right?  It forces Frieza into a new character dynamic, so itâs not just the same old shit with him.   Or Toei collectively admits that they canât use him anymore, which was what they should have decided in 1995.  Iâm fine either way.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen: Donât grow his hair back, okay?Â
5 words to best describe them: Qualified to sell real estate.
My nickname for them: The Kriller.

sbdjekdk i need recommendations pls. how tf do i find that webtoon you recommended đđ also i just caught up with weak hero, so,,
anyway i need action webtoonsđđ
the ones ive read are unOrdinary, weak hero, god of highschool, omniscient reader, and tutorial tower
-coffee
Ok youâve come to the right place, Iâve read way too many WEBTOONs when I was younger so I got chu đ
On where to read second life ranker, imma say sketch websites? ik itâs not getting officially translated anywhere, so i think you gotta look on the sketch ones oops :â)
For the actual WEBTOONs app, here are some action ones youâd probably like:
Tower of God (TOG): overhyped, also has an anime, but the first season of the webtoon was ok? Personally, if I didnât want to sock all the characters constantly, I wouldâve enjoyed it more, but I did. So yea
I Donât Want This Kind Of Hero: LONG and not very concise, kinda all over the place and drags things out, but I actually finished this one so it was pretty okay ehehe (jk I liked it LOL)
Soul Cartel: MF HAD THE BEST GLOW UP EVER. LIKE EVER. He looked SO good after, and I liked the plot enough to read till the end :)
Catharsis: it wasnât bad? I donât remember a lotta the details, but I did like the concept and the execution enough to read it all LOL.
The Gamer: I think this is the closest to the ones youâve read so far. Itâs not bad, but they kinda drag it out and some of the characters are kinda annoying and you wanna punch them :â)
Nano List: it was a bit of a mess ngl, but I still enjoyed it enough hehe. I think I didnât wanna punch anyone too bad in this one, but tbh IDR LOL.
Zeroâs Game: O I LIKE THIS ONE, FMC is hot, plot was fun and kept me pretty engaged heh.
I got lazy and some of these are maybe things youâd like LOL:
girls of the wildâs, underprin (? idr what the plot was LMFAO), witch hunt, s.i.d., gepetto, fantasy sketch - the game, kubera, trump, eleceed, deor
Itâs been a while since I read webtoons tho ngl LOL and there are probably more manga/manhwa I could recommend to you but itâs been a while since I read those too ahahahhaahah. Though looking on the app, theyâre translating a lotta my old favorites and I gotta say, it made me pretty happy :D
#coffee anon#anon reply#chatting with rye :)#rye rec reply#<- does it apply? idk#but this was fun#i read a lotta romance too#so if anyone wants those hehe

Updated Ranking- 2020 Anime Year In Review
Punch Line- Completely unexpected, possibly the greatest anime of all time. The animation is good and the music is great, but the characters and story is what made me really love this show. Itâs also very misleading holy crap they work hard to cover up the real meat of the show.Â
HaNaYaMaTa- A gorgeous anime with a bunch of great music and dancing.
Promare- 2d CGI hybrid with an amazing soundtrack and inspiring characters. (Still not as good as Kill la Kill though.)
The Helpful Fox Senko-San- Really really cute, probably the most feel-good anime ever made.Â
Laid Back-Camp- Absolutely incredible.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba- Way exceeded my expectations.
No Game No Life Zero- No comment, itâs better if you go in with nothing.
Spirited Away- What did you expect?
Parasyte- Outstanding visuals and the best transformation of a character I have ever seen in any anime.
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K- The best comedy anime I saw this year, the animation is a little stiff, but the characters make up for it.
Komi Canât Communicate (Manga)- A very good read that I donât think would work well as an anime imo.Â
No Game No Life- The greatest fictional world I have ever seen in anything ever. I couldn't imagine half the things the anime does.
Squid-Girl- Made me like squids.
Lupin III: The First- SEE! CGI IS COOL!
Hi Score Girl (Season 2)- Season one was pretty good, but a little underwhelming. Season 2 on the other hand is completely insane and is one of the best anime you can watch on Netflix right now holy crap.
BNA- Trigger has done it again, though some aspects hold it down for me.Â
Gargantia on the verdurous planet- Amazing Sci-Fi anime, Ledo is hot.
Miss Kobayashiâs Dragon Maid- Really recommend this one.
Blue Exorcist (Kyoto Saga)- What a grand return!
Kohana Kitan- A beautiful anime with a whole lot of charm.
Jojoâs Bizarre Adventure Part 5: Golden Wind- This⊠Is Requiem.
Dragon Quest: Your Story- Best video game movie, fight me.
Star vs. The Forces of Evil- Really good, had a lot of unexpected moments.
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K: Reawakened- Not as good as original, though still pretty solid.
Steven Universe- Really good.
Steven Universe The Movie- Also really good.
HERO- What an outstanding film. The closest we will get to anime fighting in live-action.
House of Flying Daggers- Why isn't it house of âTheâ flying daggers? What the heck?
The Last Samurai- I didn't know that it was Tom Cruise until the very end.
In This Corner of the World- Really really incredible movie, highly recommended, will probably make you cry and feel sad though, so watch at your one risk.
Eromanga Sensei- Really really fun anime.
Gourmet Girl Graffiti- If you like food and cute girls, this is the anime for you. (Update after watching again, this was way better than I remember. I would probably put it much higher now)Â
Nichijou: My Ordinary Life- This anime is a sight to behold.
Jojoâs Bizarre Adventure Part 3.5: Battle in Egypt- There was only one reason you lost.
Jojoâs Bizarre Adventure Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable- My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old.Â
Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress: The Battle of Unato- Way better than I was expecting, really solid.Â
Sword Art Online Alicization: War of Underworld- Some of the best animation you can watch right now, with some stupid garbage mixed in.
Lupin The 3rd, Part 5- Pretty good, though not outstanding.
Avatar: The Last Airbender- Iâm sorry, Itâs just not really for me.
Anima Yell!- Very cute, though some other anime do this style a lot better.
Sword Art Online Alicization- This is literally the textbook example of Awful Taste but Great Execution.
Recovery of an MMO Junkie- Itâs good, but it doesn't really feel that unique or memorable compared to other slice of life anime. (That opening though⊠Now that is incredible.)
Monthly Girlsâ Nozaki Kun- WHERE IS THE PLOT? WHY DOES IT END THE SAME WAY IT BEGAN? NOTHING HAPPENED!!
Sonic the Hedgehog-Â âGotta go fast.â
Nezha- Really good, I liked the story a lot.
LEGO Ninjago- The spiritual successor to the original series, while nowhere near as good, is something I can say is 90% better than everything else on Cartoon Network right now.
Pop Team Epic- Was not really for me.
Scissor Seven (Season 2)- I liked this a lot, I cannot wait to see what happens in season 3.
Infinity Train- Good, though not as outstanding as something like Gravity Falls (Which this show is compared to a lot).
Modest Heroes- First part is okay, Second part is alright, Third part is a must watch.
NinoKuni- The most predictable movie I have ever watched.Â
Oblivion- The song was really good.
Scissor Seven (Season 1)- A mixed bag, full of boring episodes and some that truly amazed me.Â
Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja- Good for what it is.
WATATEN!: an Angel Flew Down to Me- Ehh⊠Really pretty animation- too bad nothing happens.
BAKI- WHY WOULD YOU JUST SWITCH TO CGI IN THE MIDDLE OF A FIGHT SCENE?
Fireworks- Most boring anime I watched this year, a complete waste of time.
Devilman Crybaby- The worst anime I have ever seen in my life, pissed me off and made me never want to watch anime again. I am glad other people like it though, I wish I could too⊠But I just canât.

Season 2 q&a and overall reaction
Jonny stealing everyone's names XDÂ
Is martin going to be ok!? I also need to know!Â
He said no;-;Â
ok ya, no one's gonna be ok.Â
Ya, he must do sooo much research.Â
Ya, except for "fatigue" lol.
Eyyy the mechanisms!!Â
What's the red string brigade? Ok, I guess a group of fans theorizing about stuff.Â
Oh ok so someone else did martins poetry. Ooh, there's more martin poetry out there! *grabby hands*
Ok ya, Alex clarifying that Jon isn't stupid he just makes poor decisions. Probably if he'd paused and thought about it (like I did lol, I had to go do some stuff in the middle of that ep and thought about it a whole bunch lol) instead of immediately going out and buying an axe and further isolating himself and panicking immediately he probably would have figured it out. This is why it's bad to panic in a crisis guys.Â
Eyyy! Jonny's parents voiced Gertrude and Leitner! That's so cool.Â
XD Jonny grumbling about having to work with his parents.Â
Hmm, I hadn't really thought of Gertrude being like a mother figure in the story? She just seems very cut-throat I guess from what Leitner said. Idk so far I've been very suspicious of her. Especially since that one statement where her photo burned a whole bunch of people or something. She just seems very shady...Â
Alex chortling over Jonny's pain. XD
Side note, Every time there's a q&a I just can't stop noticing Jonny's voice going in and out of archivist range? Like most of the time I'm just listening along and then he'll say a sentence a bit grumblier and my brains immediately like "ARCHIVIST! That's THE ARCHIVIST!!"Â
Martin would be the last one alive in Friday the 13th! It's official!Â
(Is it bad that this gives me hope)
Jon likes Nonfiction, documentaries, and probably collects something just a little bit weird. *writes down for use in potential fics*Â
also while im at it I remember jon saying he dislikes coffee at one point, and so many people have him liking coffee in their fics! This has been your daily reminder of that fact because ever since then it keeps bugging me lol. (But also do whatever u want.)
Alex's spluttering sounds so much like Martin.
Yes!! I want to hear jon sing!! Yes! Musical Episode When!!?
Ah yes yes yes! All the characters are so unique!!? How does he do it!!Â
Ya, it being in audio format sometimes makes it hard to understand what's happening in the live-action bits. (Live-action is the wrong word but u know what I mean.)
Oh ok ya, how he mentioned he got a pipe was quite clever I didn't realize that that's why he mentioned it at all.Â
Ooh, there's a manga where there's something similar to Michael? I'll have to look that up later...
XD Alex and Jonny arguing about apples.Â
Ok, so all the statements we're hearing ARE for reals. I kinda assumed but good to have it confirmed.
They used to hang out together!!? Work function curry nights!! ;-;Â
Ya Ya! Who made the leitners!?
"You are assuming a book needs to be written" ...ok then. (but it has to have been created somehow??? Did they just spring fully formed from the powers? why? And why take the form of books?)
Alex's mischievous laugh about whether jon has friends *trembles in fear*
Yes!! Micheal is so good! I'm so happy they love him too! Yesyes! His laugh!Â
Ah Yes!! Mary kaey was so creepy!Â
XD yes yes yes fatigue was written on zero sleep, I knew it!Â
Akskdjdkd I love them so much. Also, I've looked up Michaels voice actor luke booys and he does some other horrory type sketches n stuff and I kiiinda want to do a little animatic with some of those but it's Michael like annoying some poor soul lost in his halls... I think that'd be fun. I wonder if anyone's done that yet? If so someone send me the links I neeeed iiitt :3
Season 2 summary:
Uuuuu ya so this season was really good. I kinda listened to it in bursts of about ten episodes every couple weeks and then have been saving up the reactions to post later so these are usually going up about a week or so after I actually listened to the episode just FYI.Â
I also do have a lot of spoilers cause I can't keep myself away from fanfic and people don't always tag for spoilers and I kiiinda wana know what's coming beforehand anyway? Idk it's hard man I get very stressed about what might happen and then also listening to too much at a time is too spooky for my poor little heart so I gotta read the less spooky fanfic to fulfill the hyperfixation you see. (If anyone has fanfic with spoilers only up to season 2 that'd be great btw)Â
Anyway, I try not to take spoiler type stuff into account unless I'm just so sure of it I can't really not acknowledge that I know about it.Â
Also, can I just talk about Michael for a minute?? Cause he's such a unique character? And I guess maybe there are other characters like him but I haven't ever seen one -tho to be fair tma is only like the third horror thing I've ever really got into (the other two are the SCP Foundation in its various forms and Little Nightmares. Hence why I keep making reference to SCP it's really the only thing I know similar to this.) But he's such a cool concept!!? Like someTHING that still has a personality? He's so not human? Like I get what he says but also I don't really? Idk im pretty sure he's an avatar right? Right?? Idk if that means he was a person at some point? But all this to say that he is probably the most inhuman character I've come across so far and I'm trying to figure out what it is about him that's so "other" to me? Like... I don't really know what Micheal's deal is? he seems to want to be sort of a neutral mischief-maker but also it seems like he keeps getting invested. But also I just love the way he talks about himself. Like he's a monster that has a personality and is fully intelligent but isn't just evil but isn't neutral either and certainly isn't benevolent. Like he's so complex and just,,,, the idea of a "thing" that's got a personality?? I love it? Kind of like dryads or spirits of things? Like the idea that after a long time things gain personality just by existing? Not that that's what Michael is necessarily? but that same sort of concept applies to him I think. Like the way he IS the maze and wants to help but wants to just watch but wants to kill them all. He's just so interestinggggggg. (And another vision of what jon could become?)
also "es Mentiras" is a beautiful name đ
So are him and not-Sasha avatars? Not-Sasha also seems completely inhuman and I was under the impression that avatars were (or used to be) human? Or are they like personifications of their power? Do all the powers have personifications of themselves. not-Sasha seems even less human than Michael? Like she seems to just really genuinely enjoy causing fear? Tho I guess we didn't really get to hear a lot of her. She just seemed kinda gleefully angry most of the time we heard from her. Was she... Human once!???
Anyway. Also, can I just talk about leitners line about jon belonging to the eye!!? Just..*chefs kiss* hnnnngg I need more jon grappling with that. I just need more everyone dealing with the fallout post all of the finallies ok? I still need more of jon angsting over his worms scars and stuff and now I also need jon freaking out about belonging to a fear god power thing.Â
Also Martin! Is Martin ok? He sure did a lot of yelling which he doesn't usually? Look I love him and he actually thinks before he acts (unlike SOME people *looks at jon*) and he writes poetry and it is pretty good poetry ok!! And he cares about everyone and just wants a happy ending and aaaaađ
Petition to get some statements from Martin's pov tho? I mean that's not gonna happen cause Jon's the archivist but I want more martin pov!! Maybe we can get some of his poem tapes??? Pls?????Â
I feel so bad for Tim. It sounds like he's kinda fallen into despair.
Also Elias!!? Is showing his spooky side!!? He can control cameras and beat a man to death with a pipe!!? This is his "place of powerr"!!? I am afeared!!? At least jon knows he shouldn't trust him now. Oh jeez, I wonder if jon will listen back to the tape and know what happened. Thhhatsss rough. Oh dear, I hope he doesn't feel guilty cause Leitner did keep trying to hurry him and now everyone thinks it was him. Even martin thinks he did it? Wich like I kinda want to hear more of his thoughts on that? How much does he believe that jon did it? Tim certainly seems pretty certain but he's a bit biased and cynical right now so.Â
And they were in the maze for DAYS?Â
Now I need martin recovering from being stuck with Tim in Michaels maze for days being angry and worried and hungry etc... Dksjdksa knowing jon could be dying RIGHT NOW and there's nothing he can do. Please someone give me the fic links if this exists!! I've already written like 5 drabbles based entirely on spoilers/other fics (which I'll probably post (w/ links to their inspirations) once I'm caught up and can make sure I'm not just completely demolishing cannon lol.Â
Leitner didn't even scream or yell or anything when he was murdered. Literally the chillest dude ever. F
Overall super great, Elias is terrifying, let's dive into the next season!!! I've got 2 seasons to finish in like, less than 2 or so weeks(?) if I wana be caught up by season 5 hhhh,,,
Better get started I guess.Â

Please, read if youâre a Kamen Rider fan. Specialy if you are an Kamen Rider Ryuki fan.
I rarely make posts. Iâm more a reblogger, but sometimes i got some ideas and some gifs.  But this is the first time iâm writting like this. So feel free to like, comment etc.
ATTENTION: LOTâS OF SPOILERS!!!
2019 was a surprising year for me. Â To be more specific, 2018-2019 Kamen Rider Zi-O. Once again, i got that vibe..."Oh, a Rider that will got other Riders powers, will have amazing encounters... They promise only Heisei, but will they do like they did in Decade and bring Showa Riders too? And will be Joe Odagiri (original Kuuga) be there this time? How about Decade? Â W? Â Ryuki...?"
Yeah, Ryuki...Â
Let me say this: Â Kamen Rider Kuuga is my favorite Rider. Â But not my favorite series. Â It's easy to pic a favorite Kamen Rider, but for me it's hard to pick a favorite season of the franchise. I grew with Kamen Rider Black/ Kamen Rider Black RX, and God.. how i love Black and Shadow Moon both in series and manga. The story, the brothers, villains... (gotta tell that as a kid i had nightmares with one of the villains) In 2000 Kuuga became my favorite. Â So many forms, a new format for the series, a never seen 100 ton Rider Kick... indeed a new hero, a new Legend. Then 2001... Kamen Rider Agito. Â What a time where people debated who is strongest? Â Kuuga or Agito? Â Black RX? Â J?
So a year got pass... 2002. And we had Kamen Rider Ryuki. For some reason, i finished Agito, watched specials, movies, etc... And did not started with Ryuki right away. So a magazine got my attention:  fans debate: polemic, Kamen Rider totaly based on a Dragon. Another in a Bat. Series promise 13 Riders! (and we ended getting 15. We have to count Alternative and Alternative Zero.  16 if we count Kamen Rider Abyss) A Rider that it's not base on a grasshopper made fans freak out. I was: -âReally?  Fans freaking out? It's not the first time we got a Rider that isn't based on a grasshopper.  Why the polemic?â The magazine showed some nice pictures, some stats of the Kamen Riders like, power, weight, etc... but not about their alter egos. Some weeks after that, i saw and adversment about the movie Final Episode. So i got a bit surprised. Final Episode already?  It's already ending?  It's just the name of the plot of the movie?  So i did some research on the web and for my surprise, the first thing i saw was: -Kamen Rider Scissors, Massassi Sudou. Killed in a battle with Kamen Rider Knight.-  Next to that was a picture of Ren.  I tought:  "What? This guy is a murderer?  An assassin? He really killed an fellow Rider??"  (If you watched the series, i know it laughable, but innocent i was, not knowing what was waiting for me)
So i finally started to watch the series... ON EPISODE 6. Just where that fact happens. So i moved to episode 7, 8, 9 and 10. I re-watched epidose 6 to 10 again and only after that i went to episode one and started to watch the serie in a proper way. For my surprise i even got an Kamen Ryuki vs Agito, specials, movie, amazing soundtrack. I found myself getting anxious for the next episode.  So finally i reached the end of the series.  I felt sad with both endings, at same time very satisfied. I'm the kind of person who re-watches series not one, but sometimes two or three times.  But Ryuki... i re-watched one, two, three times... with friends, parents, boyfriend etc.  I guess i can say i watched Ryuki almost 20 times. 2003 arrived and we had Kamen Rider Faiz, then Blade, Hibiki... and so on. Even re-watching those Riders again, sometimes there was me, watching Ryuki again.  Or an specific episode. So it came 2009 with Kamen Rider Decade. I was happy to know that i was going to see Ryuki and cia again, but instead we got alternative versions.  Yeah, i know the original Riders were there sometimes.  And i was happy to see the original actors for Black, Blade, Agito in the movie, Momotaros ^_^...  but i was somehow in hopes to see Shinji. But everything was ok.
-Just a confession. Â During this year i was really mad. Angry!! Furious!!! With Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight. Â Was Kamen Rider suffer the same thing Sentai suffers with Power Rangers??? Â The same thing happened in the past with Black RX as Saban's Masqued Rider.. so now, why Ryuki???-
Years passed and there we are in 2018-2019 with Kamen Rider Zi-O. And for my surprise... BOOM!! Rider Time: Kamen Rider Ryuki.Â
I was surprised and happy to see Shinji in Ryuki's arc in Zi-O. Even Editor Daisuke Ookubo from ORE Journal was there. Â And do i have to mention Ryuga? Â I loved how he was his own Another Rider. Â This somehow made the series and the movie Final Episode canon. Not to mention returning characters. Ren, Asakura, Gorou-chan mentioning dead Kitaoka. And of course, Â polemic again because of the gay scene. Â I didn't cared about that, but it was priceless to see Tezuka's face when he recovered his memory. Â (Was that face just because he remembered he was not a bad guy and his friendship with Shinji? Â Or because he remembered he was not gay? Â =D) I can't let pass the "Ron" scene happening again. Â I laughed so much...
Another thing: Â a lot of wiki sites, fan sites etc are describing Kamen Rider Odin's alter ego as mistery man. The guy said "Yui" before he dies... of course was Kanzaki Shiro there. Â -_- Speaking of wiki sites, some said that Rider Time: Ryuki is passing DURING Ryuki's arc on Zi-O series. Â That makes and don't makes sense. Â I don't know. And i could go for hours talking about that.
Sad thing that some characters died again.  Some that shouldn't die, ended dying. For my surprise, Ryuga is still alive, and kinda... accepted Shinji?Â
But at the end, i got that mix of emotions again: Â sadness, happyness, satisfaction.
At the end of the series, from what i understood, Zi-O re-writed the universe? So Shinji got his powers again? Ren is alive? Returning dead characters are dead (again)? I donât know. There is still the crossover movie of Zi-O and Zero-One, so maybe some answers are coming.
The fact is, that during this year, i saw some people i follow here saying that want a Ryuki special every year.  And yeah, i want a Kamen Rider Ryuki special every year!!  Of course this wont happens, but still... do we will see something like that in the future? Maybe yes, maybe not... some people are talking about Kamen Rider Blade cast returning for a movie or special... who knows?
One question still remains for myself:
-Is Kamen Rider Ryuki my favorite Rider series? I still donât know or i just donât want to adimit?-

BnHA Chapter 238: Shigaraki Tomura: Tattered Goth Remix
Previously on BnHA: Young Shimura Tenko killed his whole family, as angsty young misguided antagonist characters sometimes do, and then proceeded to wander the streets feeling all sad about it until All for One just happened!! to come across him and was all âoh you poor thing it looks like you killed your whole family by accident, let me just adopt you and raise you to be my own personal killing machine.â We got some more flashbacks showing just how this transformation took place, plus some answers about the hands that kind of just raised more questions though tbh, and watched as little Tenko made his first premeditated kill after a number of effed up AFO pep talks. AFO then rechristened him âShigaraki Tomuraâ, and we learned that Shigaraki is actually AFOâs own last name. The chapter ended back in the present day, with Tomura reflecting on how his familyâs death wasnât really a tragedy after all and ended up setting him free. Weâll have to agree to disagree, kid, but in the meantime have fun fucking up Re-Destro and dealing with Gigantomachiaâs rampage!
Today on BnHA: Re-Destro tries to smash Tomura at 100% and absolutely nothing happens. So then he summons a bunch of robot armor bits like fucking Iron Man, and levels up to 150%! Tomura could not care less, because heâs leveled up to be one of those âyawn, is that all you got?â bad guys now, and while RD desperately tries to intimidate him, we briefly check in with the rest of the League. Everyone is freaking out at how quickly Machia is destroying the Liberation Army, and Compress calls Ujiko and frantically begs him to warp them all to safety. But Ujiko is all ânahâ and says he wants to drive Tomura into a corner. Meanwhile Gigantomachia finally takes out Dairy Queen, since Dabi was doing fuckall, and the chapter ends with Tomura possibly killing Re-Destro?? To be honest itâs really unclear. For all I know the dude just dropped dead of a heart attack from all that stress. In fact, now that Iâve typed that, I kind of think thatâs what did happen. Anyway! The point is Iâm pretty sure the battle is finally over.
(All comments are my unspoiled reactions from my initial readthrough of the chapter. I did a quick edit for grammar and clarity immediately afterward, and added one or two ETAs in the process, but aside from that there are no changes.)Â
so I mentioned this in an ask post a couple days ago, but this recap is a day late because I was out of town this week. consequently Iâm behind on my asks and other things as well (I know, what else is new), so Iâm sorry about that!
also! @temperatezone informed me that thereâs yet another BnHA spinoff coming out, and that the preview chapter debuted last week! so I went to check it out, and holy shit, itâs a manga all about the U.A. kids teaming up with various pro heroes!!!!??!! between this and the new anime season coming up in just two months (itâll fly by) and BakuDeku: Heroes Rising coming out in December, I feel like Iâm being fucking spoiled with BnHA content. and I didnât even mention the 2nd light novel which just had its official English translation released last month! so all in all itâs a lot of good stuff, and I desperately want to recap chapter 0 of the new spinoff as soon as possible, but itâll probably be a few days unfortunately, unless I decide to be very irresponsible and do that instead of the piles of work I should actually be doing. weâll see which impulses actually win out sob
fortunately Jump is on a break next week if I recall, so thatâll give me some time to catch up. anyway letâs start this thing before I manage to procrastinate anymore! so the new chapter is called âLiberationâ, probably after a certain army
and the chapter is picking up where we left off before, with Tomura taking his Father Hand out of his pocket and saying he doesnât need it or any of his other hands
ooooooh
maybe the title isnât referring to the Liberation Army after all! or just one of those cool double meaning things
oooh man
god but that is satisfying. is there anything more satisfying than seeing a character youâve been rooting for finally reach out and take control of their own destiny? ahhhh yessss thatâs the good shounen shit right there
lol Re-Destro
he finally scared you into using your ~full power~, huh? punk
donât mind me Iâm just appreciating how much of a total badass my boy here is
your move, RD. personally if it were me, I wouldnât want to fuck with him anymore! but hey your funeral bud
hmmm
the last few chapters have been so well-drawn that Iâm starting to think I was maybe getting spoiled. I wonder if Horikoshi will re-do these later for the volume release
anyway so it seems like whatâs happening is that RD is trying to hit Tomura with another Almighty Bitchslap and Tomura is not having any of it, basically
oh wow
and this isnât even the Gigantomachia damage. will there be any pieces of this town left larger than a toothpick once all is said and done here?? stay tuned! but the answer is no
so the rest of this two page spread is just more panels showing vague high-contrast images of the destruction. weâre also briefly cutting to Gigantomachia! and to Dabi, who is still fighting Pinkberry, and like, dude, come on. finish him off already
and now the dust is clearing after that latest clash, and would you guys fucking look at this dramatic bitch though omfg
Shigaraki Tomura: Tattered Goth Remix. you look like the cover of a Bauhaus album. thank god this arc isnât set somewhere stupidly dark, like, say, a basement
lmao Re-Destro is so mad
once again I would like to point out that you invited him here, you overconfident dishrag
so now Tomura is casually conversing with him
Tomura did you burn one right before this battle. youâre so fucking chill all of a sudden. gotta say that if someone had asked me âwhat do you think it would take to get Shigaraki Tomura to mellow outâ before this arc, I probably would not have answered, âhmm, well maybe flashbacks to his horrific childhood and the violent deaths of all of his loved onesâ
well at any rate, watching Re-Destro progressively freak out while Tomura makes more (ïŸâżïŸ) faces is my new form of sustenance, guys
âyou seem a bit rattled. a bit ill at ease. perturbed. somethingâs got you in a tizzy, huh.â â( ă» Ì«ă»)â
(ETA: okay but rereading this here, he keeps talking about his heart pounding, and then he goes and summons a fucking robot suit that actually raises his stress on purpose. so like, I donât know? but I vaguely recall reading a theory on reddit a few weeks ago that RD was going to have a heart attack and it looks like it could really be the case. or not! that last page is really inconclusive.)
and now the Re-Destro flashbacks that absolutely no one asked for! of course!!
-- OH MY GOD
IâM DYING I CANâT. SEND HELP
Iida Iâm so sorry. all this time I have been teasing you and calling you a 40-year-old man, when this whole time it was actually Re-Destro who Benjamin Buttoned his way from his motherâs womb
is he related to the Alpha Kid from the adventures of the Babysitterâs Club? he canât not be, right? what else could it be? two characters just happening to vaguely resemble one another in a purely coincidental manner?? are you even hearing yourself?! get out!!
um hey, so what the actual fuck is happening
...Krestro??
lol what. Horikoshi Muriel Kouhei, did you seriously just give this fucker Hulkbuster armor. do you just have a list of Marvel comics tribute shit that you check off as you go
so apparently this suit jacks his power up to one hundred and fifty percent! wowwwwwwww
but meanwhile Tomura is all just
what would it take to faze new Toked Goth Remix Tomura, I wonder
sob omg
goddammit now heâs going to want one. Ujiko youâd better get on it
oh my god you guys
Iâm starting to feel really bad about all of these nice Twice clones who are being so helpful and are just going to end up dying in the end omg
also, if someone ever asks you, âshould I read BnHA,â you can say, âwell that depends, how much do you like scenes of characters with two broken arms getting piggyback rides from other characters?â and theyâll be like, âthatâs really specific, does that... happen often,â and you can be like, âwell itâs officially happened more than once, soâ
like, itâs a whole thing now I guess. also, ouch
anyway so Real!Twice is concerned that Machia is having far too easy of a time kicking names and taking ass, and heâs trying to regroup with the rest of the League
oh my god Compress, seriously?
League of Ungrateful Sods, is what you guys are. heâs trying to help you guys out!!
lol Dabi you fucking liar
no you fucking werenât, you were going to keep fighting him for a million more years. your fight was going to make Goku VS Frieza look like a 15-second Youtube ad. once again, you guys should really be more grateful here
(ETA: why did they even invite Dabi lol. all he did was fight offscreen and have zero (0) flashbacks. fucking tease.)
so now Compress is calling Ujiko and asking him to warp them out of there
what...?
heâs absolutely 100% making this up, right?
lol yeah now even Compress is calling him on it
right, Compress??
okay now Ujiko is straight up telling him no
oh, this is good you guys
Ujiko, I donât know how to tell you this but while you werenât looking, the dude hopped on a fucking golf cart and drove his own damn self. and now appears to have made himself pretty damn comfortable in that corner too
oh is Halo Top finally about to fucking die??
the cornerstone?? really?? holy shit, it really is remarkable how thoroughly unprepared these guys actually were in the end
anyway so now more action panels are happening
did Machia kill him? it looks like he survived but just went flying
and what the hell does Hanabata think heâs actually going to be able to do. drive his van at him? give him encouragement??
anyway I guess weâre wrapping this up now, and weâre cutting back to Tomura whoâs saying something extremely cool
it is kind of like that. except that itâs bullshit
anyway so it looks like heâs touching the ground and using his decay again and holy shit is this it???
!!!!!
YOU GUYS DID HE JUST DISINTEGRATE RE-DESTRO OH MY GOD. JUST LIKE THAT!!??!
YOU GUYS I HONESTLY CANâT TELL, ALL I KNOW IS TOMURA TAPPED THE GROUND, AND RE-DESTRO HAD A WEIRD PANEL WHERE YOU COULDNâT SEE WHAT WAS HAPPENING, AND HE HAD A THOUGHT AND IT WAS SUDDENLY CUT OFF, AND THEN WE CUT TO GIGANTOMACHIA WATCHING AND WE COULDNâT REALLY SEE ANYTHING OMG
but can you imagine, though?? âone single strikeâ?! like oh my god, there wasnât even any fanfare? if he really did just kill him that is pretty much exactly how I would have wanted it to go down tbh
at any rate, itâs safe to say life just got a hell of a lot more dangerous for our Actual Protagonist with this new power-up. shit. oh my god
well I guess thatâs it! does that mean this arc is gonna wrap up next chapter. because Iâm also going to be away the 16th, so Iâll be a day late in doing that chapter too. I s2g Horikoshi, if you finally cut back to U.A. on a day that Iâm not able to read the chapter right away, I will... well actually Iâll be pretty happy regardless, but secretly I will also believe itâs some sort of conspiracy against me. so just know that

Spring 2019 Anime SUPER Short Takes
so yeah i have zero percent energy and time, so these arenât official reviews or overviews for the anime i watched, just messy general âdid i like itâ thoughts for each anime. not even telling you the premise! youâll have to look it up yourself.Â
Dororo (end)- There was a lot of pretty interesting and strong stuff leading up to like, the last episode and a half... Hyakkimaru being consumed by obsession and not really being able to articulate why he wanted his body parts back so badly other than âbecause theyâre mineâ, his touching reunion with the person who raised him (he!!! called him mama!!! it was genuinely cute wtf), questions about what makes someone human, revenge, etc... but I felt the ending episodes were kinda a weak letdown in comparison- it felt rushed, the whole show was about building up Hyakkimaru and Dororoâs bond, then they were barely together for the last two episodes, despite the final ep being named...Dororo and Hyakkimaru. There was also a kinda awkward part where Dororo and everyone had a drawn out conversation where they figured out the themes of the show while all this other shit was happening that felt just a little stiff.
Also as I put it on Twitter:
Hyakkimaru's mom: it'll be ok hyakkimaru will be able to remain human bc he has that child by his side!!!
 Everyone: yeah!
 Hyakkimaru: *leaves dororo immediately*Â
Priest guy: no see he had to leave you to go on a journey to regain his humanity
 Dororo: uuuuhhhh
And yeah, the series was as boring as possible with Dororoâs gender, very deliberately erasing a trans reading- I had a sinking feeling when they omitted Dororoâs âI AM a boyâ line from the manga in the scene with the bandits (JUST that line too, it was so blatant), and indeed the last few seconds of the show make sure to assure us Dororo has grown up to be Appropriately Feminine. Itâs so disappointing and insidious, they had the ability to update the story in a way that took out the gross gender essentialist comments from the manga while keeping a gnc/trans-coded character but instead they not only squandered that, but deliberately went out of their way to burn that bridge.
And even outside "going out of the way to erase a trans reading" I'm so tired of scrappy afab children always shown to grow up to look ~appropriately~ fem in media.
Nice animation at least though.
Fruits Basket Brotherhood- (ongoing) watching this with a friend, so Iâm behind, but itâs been fun so far. Thereâs some Questionable 90s Gender and Comedy Stuff theyâre keeping intact from the manga, but overall its still a sweet, moving story to watch and the adaptation is pretty faithful from what I remember (and pretty lookinâ!). And honestly I donât remember a ton of the mangaâs plot, just that there were Feels, so Iâm ready to be surprised again. BRING ON MORE ZODIAC ANTICS, CRANKY CATBOY AND AWESOME GOTH AND SUKEBAN GIRL BFFS.
Sarazanmai: I enjoyed it! Itâs Ikuhara so itâs wall to wall Weird Queer Shit, gotta love that. PREPARE FOR MANY BUTT JOKES. the messy dramatic disaster teens that sucked me into their relationships by the end, and the adult mlm couple was treated very sympathetically, so I felt for them (plus I read the prequel manga and it was cute). The series was stubbornly optimistic in a way I appreciated in these troubled times, focusing on how hard it is to connect with others but how meaningful it is. Lots of interesting visuals too. I enjoyed reading everyoneâs takes on it. I think it should have been longer (or perhaps not spent so much of its first half doing formula stock footage but THATâS HOW IKUHARA ROLLS) and felt the last episode especially was a little rushed. Itâs no Utena (what is) but it was interesting and I look forward to rewatching it sometime soon. Would probs be my pick of the season if we were actually ranking things.
Carole and Tuesday (ongoing): Cute girls playing music, a fun, diverse cast, some nice wlw guest starring for an ep- honestly, it hasnât blown me away with the characters or plot or anything, but itâs a mostly relaxing series to watch with an interesting setting, the animation is very nice, and hearing all the english songs is cool.Â
I am a bit concerned about where it might be going with its âmartian androgyny syndrome (?)â subplot- I honestly have no idea what theyâre trying to do with it and thereâs some troubling implications with how theyâre presenting the characters âafflictedâ...but I guess weâll see where it goes. Thatâs really my only big niggling concern there.Â

Yugioh S4 Ep 12: Pharaoh, a Well Known Magician of Darkness, Swears he Has Never Done That.
I just had the most disappointing cheesecake cup of my entire life, so lets talk about Yugioh. From weird dessert to weird desert. ha.
I mean OK. Sure. I mean they gotta do something while they look for Yugi in a desert that isnât really known for itâs off-roading, but it also isnât known for itâs card game scene so...
But then the show decided to fill even more empty time with Rebecca sharing this piece of info when I least expected it. Now. In S4.
Yâall I was SO surprised.
I know that the show is doing this for the people just tuning into Yugioh for the first time but...Man, Iâm having flashbacks to that time Yugi didnât tell anyone that Bakura freakin died for over 40 episodes until Marik had to do it for him.
Yugi never told the girl he gave the friendship card to, that his best friend is ACTUALLY a 4000 yo ghost that haunts his every move. (5000 yo? I forget how old he is)
Tea just patiently reveals all of Yugiâs deepest darkest terrifying occult secrets to Rebecca with a smile on her face the entire time.
Thatâs girl talk. Can affirm--this is what girl talk looks like.
(read more Girl Talk under the cut)
Her explanation on the show actually did not point out that there is a separate entity with a completely different personality, so I think that people watching the show for the first time would still be hella confused. Instead it was more âthis is Yugiâs strong and handsome side which I clearly like WAY MORE, and this is the other oneâ
Like she kinda left out the part where one is a ghost.
So this scene basically takes away any tension that a 4-way love square would have brought to the table.
And thatâs fine. I really didnât need a love square that involves both a 12 year old and a ghost. For me, as a person who is immune to shipping, it just seemed wildly too complicated for the same writing team who have been trying to bury Kaiba and his relationship with that that paper card since they brought it up in S2.
But apparently no one in this square cares they all kinda like the same person and that this particular person is two people. And as they go on about what they like about Yugi, itâs clear that both girls have made kind of a perfect dream Yugi who...just doesnât exist at all. Maybe if either of them actually went on more than one date with the boy, they would separate the dream from the reality and realize fully that, in actuality, Yugi and Pharaoh both are a human version of that âhang in there!â poster with the struggling kitten on it.
TBH I think the women in this show forgot they like Yugi, it was a very friendzoning style of conversation.
Meanwhile, Rafaelâs giant arms only continue to grow even more muscular with every scene as he tell us the vague deep lore behind this necklace. Itâs sort of like watching a webcomic written by a teenager. The muscles keep growing, and growing, but the characters have to keep getting distracted by lore, and then midway the lore drop, the writer goes on a hiatus because of finals and just never comes back so it feels like youâre stuck in lore limbo forever.
I do like that Pharaohâs like âyour necklace is evil, take that offâ when he has also been wearing the Oricalchos necklace the entire time.
Maybe because it was just waaay too tempting for Yugi to look at that jewelry and NOT wear that jewelry? Yugi has kind of a magpie problem with accessories, as we all know, and I canât believe this magpie problem has put him into mortal peril so many times.
And then the show finally does us the favor of explaining why some people go cray when they wear haunted jewelry, and others do not.
Which does not bode well for Ryou. Not like we ever hang out with Ryou enough to find out his personal balance between being a meek little Brishish(ish?) kid that likes to eat cookies and his demon form that likes to stab things. Like seriously, would have liked to know more about Ryou ever at all, but since Season 1 ended, heâs only Ryou for like...2 minutes at a time before heâs back to being wonderful, scene shredding, serial murderer asshole Bakura.
Also, unrelated note, WHAT THE HELL, ART TEAM.
Is that turtleneck just spray painted on??? Why does this guy ever bother with cards? He can just do some punches and probably accomplish the same damn thing and a lot quicker. This man is larger than...any other human that has been on this show.
And so itâs at this point that Rafaelâs decided like âahaha my master plan, I will make Pharaoh doubt himselfâ and itâs like...
...you actually don't need to give Pharaoh a push, he and Yugi doubt themselves so often theyâd list it as one of their hobbies on their edgy Livejournals (because they would keep two)
This fight with Rafael was kinda frustrating, because while most villains make points where itâs like âoh, you were tortured underground your whole life because of something I did in my past life, yeah that checks out.â all of Rafaelâs points had so little to do with Pharaoh and were...so easy to debunk...
Like I made the joke about Flat Eartherâs the last recap but you know what? I can see Rafael being a Flat Earther. Straight up. You can tell him the sky is blue and heâll start going off about how all of humanity needs to die because the sky is actually made of Meyer lemons.
Darts even decided to say this line.
Which I thought was mostly funny because Pharaoh still has no idea that thing around his neck can shoot lasers, but also funny because the only reason Yugi has friends is because he initially cursed them to like him in Season Zero. And that wasnât even Pharaoh, that was YUGI. Rafael is just SO very late to this party.
So, he decides to give Pharaoh an Oricalchos card, and like...
And I donât believed I capped this part of the last episode, but before they even started this game, Rafael was like âyeah I let Arthur go.â
So...thereâs no reason for Yugi to be here anymore other than the bridge is out. There are NO stakes in this game. Other than...Pharaohâs pride?
I guess itâs one of the problems of sharing a soul with a King who weâre 90% sure did some pretty effed up stuff at some point because heâs a King. Thatâs just what they DO, Iâve played Fire Emblem, I know how Kings work.
Like we could just sit down and make a list of things that Pharaoh and Yugi did that ended up really screwing him over. (And hearing that nitroglycerin air hockey happens somewhere in the manga does make me want to take a peek at it eventually but I have too much on my to do list)
Like for instance, there was that time he took a fireball for Mai thinking she was a decent person and she ended up killing over 20 people with a gas station and is now a Mad Max Style serial murderer racing down the 101, and actively trying to kill him and more specifically Joey Wheeler.
Or that time he took the ultimate bullet and died but left his tomb to the most asshole tombkeeper family cult known to man who like to carve tattoos onto children with old ass hot butcher knives for thousands of years.
Or that time he thought Namu wasnât Marik when Marik had insane tattooed eyeliner and a millennium item sticking like 8 inches out of his back pocket the entire time. Couldâve saved him like...2 seasons of content if he just yoinked that item right then and there.
Or that time he actually tried to murder Seto Kaiba. Like actually tried to push his own classmate off of a steep ledge and would have done it if Tea hadnât intervened.
Or that time he did...a lot of the things that Yugi did in Season Zero and the Manga.
I just feel like...this is our boy. Heâs meant to be this gray area protagonist who is trying to do the right thing but at the same time does enjoy his dark tendency towards revenge. Yami is sort of like having the best of both worlds where you can be both villain and hero. He doesnât need to be a polarizing force like Superman or something.
And...it feels a little bit like the narrative is trying to say he has finally stepped over the line of gray area and itâs like...heâs been here kind of a while, bud. But honestly, if it makes Pharaoh go a little Zero Iâm here for it. Why not? Itâs been a while, I want to see him go nuts again.
And I mean Yugi hasnât had a meltdown in kind of a while, we were overdue. I assume thatâs all of next episode is just Yugi freaking the hell out.
Anyway, if you just got here, this is a link to take you to the first episode where you can then read the entire epic in chrono order.

september reading
i read some things i guess! open for the last (almost) of robin hobb, more mountaineering disasters, and âŠ. dungeons & dragons?? (i completely forgot i had this in my drafts lol)
the nickel boys, colson whitehead idk man this is really well-written, well-paced, an important story based very much on real history, the characters serve their purpose very well, the violence and abuse is written in a way that is chilling without ever being gratuitous and with the exception of a twist that i thought was a little too predictable, thereâs nothing i can really criticise. it just really lacked some spark for me, and maybe itâs just that after underground railroad (which is also didnât particularly like, but damn that had spark) it feels a lil conventional. still good tho! 3/5
the adventure zone #1: here there be gerblins, various mcelroys & cary pietsch my brain Does Not Do podcasts but obvi iâve been hearing A LOT about the mcelroy boys & iâm like. vaguely interested in d&d* so when this was made available on overdrive i was like okay why the hell not. itâs a fun, quick read, and while i donât really know anything about d&d the trappings of the game were included in a fun way. nothing mindblowing, but a good time. 2.5/5
assassinâs fate (fitz & the fool #3), robin hobb yâall this is it⊠itâs been over a year & now iâm done with the realm of the elderlings (actually i still have the piebald prince novella & the short stories). i have some criticisms of this one (the timeline & the main climax seemed a lil muddled to me) but to be honest??? loved this, had all the feelings, was superhappy to see my cursed shores kids again, fitzy & bee were heartbreaking all the time, the paragon conflict was great, when fitz got to the quarry i literally immediately started uglycrying & pretty much didnât stop until the end, so: 4.5/5 (series rating 4/5 i guess bc foolâs assassin was a drag & a half)
die nebelkrĂ€he, alexander pechmann this is a speculative fictionalisation of a little episode in the spiritualist movement where medium hester dowden claimed she had communicated with/been briefly possessed by oscar wilde, which is pretty fun. unfortunately, pechmann chose to focus on his version of mr v., a pretty boring mathematician and skeptic, rather than the absolutely wild shit going on with dowden, which includes oscar wildeâs ghost dunking on james joyce (who responded by making fun of the whole thing in finnegans wake) and claiming heâs like totally straight. 2/5
oval, elvia wilk a neoliberal corporate hell/psychotropics/eco-punk gone wrong dystopia in berlin so you know iâm here (i.e. in berlin lol) for it. this is about a berlin in the not too distant future where finster corp (real subtle) is buying up everything, driving up rents through ecological redevelopment, artists mainly work as consultants for corporations, and our protags anja and louis live in a finster-sponsored zero-waste eco-commune on an artificial mountain in the middle of berlin. everyoneâs jobs are nda-clad bullshit, everyone parties all the time without ever enjoying themselves, homelessness and income inequality are ignored with the barest twinge of guilt, and louis is developing a party drug that chemically makes you generous. oh and the nature on the mountain (the berg -.-) seems to be eating itself. the concepts are great, the writing is pretty good even tho it tries a bit too hard sometimes, wilk, while also suffering a lil from Expat Gaze, really knows berlin. the execution isnât perfect, the pacing is a bit off, too much time is devoted to anja and louisâ boring relationship, and look, some of the dystopian elements are a bit obvious. neoliberalism bad. okay, we know. but thereâs a lot of good here, and the ending is pretty great, if a bit underdeveloped. 3.5/5
travelers, helon habila a novel about the african diaspora in europe, told thru 6 inter-connected stories, all focusing on one story of migration. these are important stories well told, and i liked how they all linked up in the end. while berlin is the central hub these stories revolve around, not all are set in berlin and the setting really isnât as central as iâd hoped (this is obvi very personal to me & my research interests so itâs not really criticism). iâd recommend this if youâre interested in the representation of african migrants and refugees. 3/5
the uninhabitable earth: life after warming, david wallace-wells shitâs fucked: the book. starts with âit is worse, much worse, than you thinkâ and doesnât really get much more cheery from there. good if you want an idea of what the effects of global warming might be (a pretty pessimistic one, which is the point - when does pessimism become realism?), and how we (& how we might) respond to them. 3/5
the girl from the other side, nagabe (#1-5) spooky-yet-wholesome manga series about a snazzy demon whoâs adopted a little human girl who has been abandoned/cast out by her human community, which is like 100% my jam. the central relationship is super cute & wholesome, the demon designs are amazing, the worldbuilding is really spooky & intriguing (if you touch a demon youâll be cursed & also turn into a demon & tbh who doesnât want to turn into a weird tall slightly monster with cool horns), and a lot of it is just the demon like. badly baking pie to cheer the girl up.Â
girl woman other, bernardine evaristo somewhere between a novel and a collection of short stories written in a somewhat unconventional but highly readable style. the 12 stories each focus on one woman (and one nonbinary person), most of them black, examing black womanhood in britain throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. i enjoyed many of these stories, but the observational style and the way we quickly cover whole lives left me a bit detached. thereâs also a lil corniness throughout, which comes out in full force in the epilogue, and while itâs cool to have trans rep, it honestly came across as a bit clueless. 3/5
dark summit: everestâs most controversial season, nick heil did someone say high-altitude mountaineering disasters? because iâm always here for some high-altitude mountaineering disasters. this is about the 2006 season which was p disastrous in terms of deaths even tho it didnât even have a storm (cf the 1996 season aka please just read into thin air), just people walking past dudes who were dying bc rescues are extremely difficult & dangerous. anyway this ainât into thin air, but itâs a good one & pretty wild bc all mountain climbers are fucking nuts. 3.5/5
sense & sensibility, jane austen really enjoyed this! the pacing is a lil weird & none of the men really is all that, but itâs all very charming & witty & i love sisterhood narratives (poor margaret!). as in (tho not as much as in) mansfield park, thereâs a lot of attitudes that just donât really track but in contrast to mp i found them interesting rather than frustrating, mostly - brandon/marianne is very uncomfortable especially when you realise that heâs projecting his tragic dead first love/sis-in-law onto marianne and that we donât really see their courtship at all, but w/e. i especially enjoyed the ferrars family drama and the hilarious resolution to it, and i gotta say: lucy steele really did that & good for her. 4/5Â
anyway, iâm about halfway thru alasdair grayâs lanark, which is a great big pomo brick, half portrait of the artist as a young glaswegian, half weird visions of hell in the city of unthank & iâm into it but itâs not a quick read. in october uni reading is also going to start, perhaps for the last semester ever :(
#the only podcast i ever semi-successfully followed was welcome to nightvale#and only because it was the kind of story where it didn't matter if you spaced out several times in between#and even then i kinda had to stop once they started having an overarching plot#*lmao rereading my lil review for adventure zone where i say i'm vaguely interested in dnd is a trip#after i spent the whole last month mainlining critical role and most of my dreams now involve dice stuff i barely understand#like i really had three separate dreams about dnd last night & i've never played it & know nothing about it that isn't in critical role#really just want to be a tiefling that bad huh#the books i read
