Do you mind if I ask your top 10 favorite characters (can be male or female) from all of the media that you loved (can be anime/manga, books, movies or tv series)? And why do you love them? Sorry if you've answered this question before.....Thanks...
This is such a sweet question I would love to!
These are in no particular order because my level of passion for them changes depending on my current hyperfixation, and I’m limiting myself to one character per media but giving honorable mentions because I tend to love two or three characters almost equally
1. Monkey D. Luffy!!! (Honorable mention: Zoro and Sanji)
One Piece holds a special place in my heart. I watched it on 4kids when I was growing up and it was the first anime I watched as a teenager. Luffy is so so so important to me as a character. I got myself through the worst parts of teendom by imagining that if he was real Luffy would love me. He’s such a warm, loving, and joyous character. He’s Joyboy!!! He came into the world without a family and so he made his own and that’s so special, the message that no one in this world is born to be alone and somewhere out there someone or ones will love you and fight for you. And on top of all this he’s an aroace king!!!
Tumblr media
2. Mogami Kyoko -Skip Beat!
Kyoko was my Girl Crush™️ in high school. I remember telling my best friend “yeah if I was gay I’d date Kyoko” LMAO. Beyond that there’s just something so special to me about reading this manga over and over, watching this girl—who only knew how to live to make her existence as palatable to other people as possible—grow into herself and find her own passions and loves as she heals from the abuses she’s dealt with her whole life. (Just looking up images of her made me want to reread the whole manga)
Tumblr media
3. Peter Parker (Honorable mention: Harry Osborn)
Spider-Man is an OG, a forever love. No matter how many years go by I’ll always circle back around to Spider-Man. I love him and his pain and his Anger Issues™️ and his iron-clad morality. The people’s hero, the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He’s also responsible for coding my brain to always gravitate towards the comic relief characters. I love a jokester who quips through dangerous situations.
Tumblr media
4. Yosuke Hanamura - Persona 4
So I always joke that a majority of my favorite characters fall into one of two categories. 1. Hides their insecurities behind jokes/false bravado, and 2. Internalized homophobia/in love with best friend. And the characters I go FERAL for have both. Yosuke Hanamura is one of the both. I love a comic relief character!!! I love a man that’s hopelessly in love with his best friend but won’t admit it because he’s terrified of the implications!!! When I played this game for the first time, like most people, I was SO MAD THAT I COULDN’T DATE YOSUKE. 90% of the time when I play I don’t end up dating anyone because I refuse to deny the protag his one true love lmao. Yosuke and Yu also have the bonus of being my first ever gay ship. Their love is so powerful it pierced through my own internalized homophobia lol!!
Tumblr media
5. Din Djarin -The Mandalorian (Honorable mention: Luke Skywalker)
I’m out here projecting so much onto this man!!!! He’s autistic, he’s asexual, he’s Traumatized. My other category of favorite characters is “Stoic Dad who learns to love again through a pseudo child figure” so he’s right up that alley. The man responsible for finally getting me into Star Wars after 27 years of having absolutely no interest.
Tumblr media
6. Virgil Hawkins!! - Static Shock (Honorable mention: Richie Foley)
The way I waited with baited breath for every Static Shock episode as a child. It’s still one of my favorite shows, I own all 4 seasons on DvD and cherish them. I love Virgil so much!! He taught me about diversity! He’s such a lovable character and it makes the show an absolute delight to watch no matter how dated some parts of it get. The show does such a wonderful job balancing Virgil’s super heroics as Static with the heroics of every day life and it’s so endearing.
Tumblr media
7. Oliver -Space Boy (Honorable mention: Amy)
Oliver is definitely the most niche character on this list (which is a crying shame please PLEASE read Space Boy on Webtoon it will chemically change your brain.) I’m just so attached to him. I feel so much for him and his story. If I could give him the biggest hug I would in an instant. “Take away his humanity and you can ignore his pain. Define him as a tool and you can justify using him.”
Tumblr media
9. Rex Salazar - Generator Rex
Oh maaaaaan I love this asshole teenager!! I’m soooo obsessed with characters who get dehumanized for the sake of using their abilities like a tool and not a person. Re: the above Space Boy quote. The aesthetic of this show is so cool! (Also hello character who hides their insecurity behind false bravado.)
Tumblr media
8. Aang - Avatar the Last Airbender (Honorable mention: Zuko)
Oh Aang… My sweet boy… my beloved… He imparted so much wisdom to me growing up… and also taught me it’s okay to have fun. I’ll always love him so much. There’s so much to rant about Avatar but it would take three hours.
Tumblr media
10. Yugi Mutou - Yu-Gi-Oh! (Honorable mention: Atem)
I related to Yugi SO MUCH as a kid. He’s just a little weirdo who loves games and craves friendship more than anything. Honestly Yugi might have been the character I most strongly related to when I was young. I remember feeling swells of happiness when people would say nice things about Yugi as a character because it felt like they were saying nice things about me too.

I counted every time a Side said Thomas' name in every single episode of Sanders Sides
a few days ago I was watching "Selfishness v. Selflessness" (for the hundredth time because I love it) and I noticed, "hey, Janus says Thomas' name a lot in this episode; I wonder if that's an intentional thing because he's trying so hard to connect with Thomas and get him to listen?" and then I got to thinking, "I wonder how many times each Side has said Thomas' name throughout the entire series? I wonder which one of them has said it the most?"
so like the extremely casual fan of this show that I am, I decided to read through the transcripts for every episode of Sanders Sides (and Sanders Asides) and count every instance of a Side saying Thomas' name!
a couple things to note: I chose to leave out "The Return of the Jam!" and "Giving My Series to a Teenager" because they aren't actual episodes and exist unconnected to canon events, but "Have I Grown? - Five Years Later" is included, because even though it's a special I see it as a similar situation to "Sanders Sides Q&A." also, I did not count instances of Sides saying Thomas' last name only (so "You did a bad job, Sanders!" from "My NEGATIVE Thinking!" is out), nor did I count nicknames that only partially included Thomas' name; for example, "Tom," "Thomathy," "Tommy Salami" and "Tomalomadingdong" (all from "The Sanders Sides 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS!") are out, but "Thomas the Dank Engine" (from the same episode) is in.
I've listed the number of times each Side has said Thomas' name, the number of episodes in which each Side has said Thomas' name, and the name-said-per-episode average for each Side, separated by whether or not Sanders Asides episodes are included in the total count. I've also got the 'Top 5' rankings for both Core and Dark Sides for the most times Thomas' name was said by a single Side in an episode and which Side and what episode it was, as well as a few details I just felt like pointing out! enjoy the numbers! :D
Counting Sanders Asides:
Logan has said Thomas' name 142 times across 24 episodes, averaging 5.91 times per episode
Roman has said Thomas' name 125 times across 24 episodes, averaging 5.2 times per episode
Patton has said Thomas' name 83 times across 23 episodes, averaging 3.6 times per episode
Virgil has said Thomas' name 61 times across 17 episodes, averaging 3.58 times per episode
Janus has said Thomas' name 53 times across 3 episodes, averaging 17.66 times per episode
Remus has said Thomas' name 16 times across 2 episodes, averaging 8 times per episode
Not Counting Sanders Asides:
Logan has said Thomas' name 121 times across 22 episodes, averaging 5.5 times per episode
Roman has said Thomas' name 108 times across 21 episodes, averaging 5.14 times per episode
Patton has said Thomas' name 77 times across 21 episodes, averaging 3.66 times per episode
Virgil has said Thomas' name 51 times across 15 episodes, averaging 3.4 times per episode)
Janus has said Thomas' name 53 times across 3 episodes, averaging 17.66 times per episode
Remus has said Thomas' name 14 times across 1 episode, averaging 14 times per episode
Top 5 (Core Sides):
Logan says Thomas' name 19 times in "Why Do We Get Out of Bed in the Morning," Roman says Thomas' name 19 times in "Can LYING Be Good??" and Patton says Thomas' name 19 times in "Selfishness v. Selflessness." (it's a three-way tie!)
Logan says Thomas' name 16 times in "Dealing with INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS"
Logan says Thomas' name 15 times in both "Selfishness v. Selflessness" and "Working THROUGH Intrusive Thoughts" (he's tied with himself!)
Roman says Thomas' name 13 times in both "Selfishness v. Selflessness" and "Putting Others First" and Patton says Thomas' name 13 times in "Putting Others First" (it's a tie between two Sides but three episodes!)
Roman says Thomas' name 11 times in "Flirting with Social Anxiety"
Top 5 (Dark Sides):
Janus says Thomas' name 29 times in "Selfishness v. Selflessness"
Janus says Thomas' name 14 times in "Putting Others First" and Remus says Thomas' name 14 times in "Dealing with INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS"
Janus says Thomas' name 10 times in "Can LYING Be Good??"
Virgil says Thomas' name 9 times in "EMBARRASSING PHASES: The Nightmare Instead of Christmas!"
Virgil says Thomas' name 8 times in "Can LYING Be Good??"
a couple of things I noticed or thought were interesting:
there are only three episodes in which Thomas' name is not said by any Side: "My True Identity!" "Taking on ANXIETY with Lilly Singh!!" and "The MIND vs. The HEART!"
Patton was the first Side to say Thomas' name (in "WAY TOO ADULT" which is the only episode to feature a single Side rather than two or more)
all four of the 'main cast' appear in "Alone on VALENTINE'S DAY!" but Logan is the only Side who says Thomas' name
all four of the 'main cast' appear in "Sanders Sides Q&A" but Virgil is the only Side who says Thomas' name
Logan was the first Side to say Thomas' name a double-digit number of times in a single episode (that episode being "MOVING ON, Part 1/2" where he says it 10 times)
all four of the 'main cast' appear in "Crofters - THE MUSICAL!" but Roman is the only Side who says Thomas' name
Logan is the only Side who has appeared in an episode of Season 2 without saying Thomas' name (that episode being "Crofters - THE MUSICAL!")
Patton was the last Core Side to say Thomas' name a double-digit number of times in a single episode (that episode being "Selfishness v. Selflessness" where he says it 19 times)
Janus and Remus are the only Sides who said Thomas' name in the first episodes they appeared in, and they both say it a double-digit number of times (10 times in "Can LYING Be Good??" for Janus and 14 times in "Dealing with INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS" for Remus)
every Side appears in "Have I Grown? - Five Years Later" but Roman is the only Side who says Thomas' name
Virgil says Thomas' name the least amount of times in his Name Reveal Episode (2 times in "ACCEPTING ANXIETY, Part 2/2")
Janus and Remus say Thomas' name the most amount of times in their Name Reveal Episodes (14 times each in "Putting Others First" and "Dealing with INTRUSIVE THOUGHTS")
Virgil has the highest number of episodes (11) in which he appears but does not say Thomas' name
Virgil is the only Side who has not said Thomas' name a double-digit number of times in a single episode
if you wanna know the number of times each Side says Thomas' name in every episode they appear in, keep reading under the cut! also, if anyone would be interested in a full 'compilation' of every time a Side says Thomas' name so you can know the various contexts, let me know and I'll make a post! I already have every single quote copied to my notes for ease of counting lol

ao3 wrapped
inspired by this post by @/spicycreativity - here’s my ao3 (writer) wrapped!!
Top Fandom: sanders sides aka the only fandom i have posted fic for so far lol, with 25 fics this year!!
Date of First Fic Posted: (in 2021) jan 3! it was always you (falling for me) this is a soulmate au with prinxiety, moceit, and intrulosleep, which. i did not finish yet oops. i feel really really bad about that hhhh. but i do plan to come back and finish it as soon as i can get my brain to cooperate with me about it, i promise.
Top Multi-Chapter Fic: if you’re going my way, i’ll go with you this is. completely unsurprising, lol. y’all went NUTS for my Good Dad Virgil Agenda, as you should. this is the most delightfully self-indulgent fic i have ever written (which is saying a lot) and i’m so glad y’all are also loving it!! if you haven’t read it yet: check it out! supervillain virgil adopts kid!superhero roman and it’s adorable.
Top One-Shot: pasta & posies YAY i didnt know this before i checked the stats!! that makes me so happy!! that fic is so fluffy n gives me so much serotonin aaaa!!!! cute domestic analogical just doing little ordinary life things and loving each other!!!!!!
Fic You’re Most Proud Of: >:( i’m proud of so many of my fics this is really hard hhhh. i think. i think i am actually most proud of the secret santa fic i’m currently writing, but that’s not posted yet lol. i’m also really proud of one chance to change your fate and most of the starlight universe series. but tbh i think i will ultimately say if you’re going my way, i’ll go with you again for this one! good dad virgil agenda ftw, and also i have so many feelings about analogical and dukeceit. (and remus’s as-yet-unrevealed backstory. ohhhh my god y’all have no idea. this poor boy has been through so much. he’s doing his best and we are very proud of him. remus’s character in this fic honestly gives me So many emotions i Love him he’s doing so good.)
Fic You Wish Got More Attention: OOOOH definitely the sky’s open wide, im running with the wolves this one is SO good. it’s based on a movie i love, but is very much able to be enjoyed with 0 context!! as per usual for my writing, fully half of the characters are trans, although i haven’t brought it up in the text yet. but yeah!! kids logan, roman, and remus as baby wolf shapeshifters in 1600s ireland!! kid virgil as their new human friend!! patton and janus as the parents of the various children!! a dastardly plot, soon to be uncovered!! there is so much to love here!! i also love that the most recent chapter ended with logan literally threatening virgil’s life and yet most of the comments are all “omg logan poor baby 🥺 i hope logan is doing okay” fjkdshgksdhg 😂😂 it does make sense in context of the whole chapter but just. contrasting it against the ending of the chapter is SO funny to me. anyway, a new chapter should be coming before too long! so check this one out!! also, for those who would prefer oneshots, i wish heart broken like a plate in the starlight universe series would get a lil more attention!! bc projecting aro feelings onto roman is something that can actually be so personal <3
Fic that Challenged You the Most: can it be im not meant to play this part? this is a fic i am using to process my religious trauma from the evangelical churches i grew up going to, by projecting it all onto logan and making him go through it all (and then eventually letting him heal from it). the writing process features a lot of me, who has mostly gone with the “don’t think about it” route for dealing with said religious trauma until now, writing something down and then going “wait oh my god that’s so fucked up. why did i used to think that was normal and fine. i’m not even exaggerating what it was like, this is horrifying oh my god.” this fic is. a lot. it deals with a lot of extremely heavy topics and is heavily critical of white evangelical christianity. please read the warnings before reading. i’m undecided if i’ll eventually post it to tumblr or if it’ll stay strictly on ao3.
Favorite Quote/Passage: okay this is long but i promise it’s worth it. this bit of the convo between logan and janus at the beginning of chapter 9 of one chance to change your fate is something i am SO proud of:
“And you want me to help.” Logan grimaced. He hated to tell them no when it was clearly so important to them, but it was… well, it was out of the question. It was far too risky.
But perhaps, for Janus—no. No. It was out of the question; he shouldn’t even be thinking about it. This was exactly why he hated bringing emotions into problems that would be much simpler without them. It only made things difficult and left one unhappy with every option.
Janus nodded in confirmation of his words, making Logan’s heart sink a little further. “I assume magical forgery is much easier and higher-quality,” they explained.
“Correct.” That was a simple fact. Far easier to deal with than ethics and emotions. He could handle facts. He liked facts. Facts never made him feel conflicted and bad inside.
“I’m also guessing,” Janus went on, looking at Logan with an altogether far too knowing expression, “that you know how to do magical forgery.”
Logan looked away. He was not some predictable man whose habits and knowledge could be guessed by his partner. He—well—“In theory, yes,” he admitted. “I did some research in university—purely out of curiosity, of course—”
“Oh, of course.” Janus’s tone dripped with honeyed sarcasm.
“It was! I didn’t do anything!” Logan protested.
“I don’t know, you say that awfully quickly,” Janus teased. “Seems suspicious.”
Logan made a helpless gesture. “I—what would I have possibly—”
“I’m only joking, darling.” Janus patted his hand. “So,” they mused, “you know how to do it. And….” They gazed up at him shrewdly. “I think you don’t like the idea of doing it now.”
Logan drew in a deep breath and let it out again, half relieved and half unhappy that they’d brought this aspect up. “We swore an oath of loyalty to the kings, dear. The idea of going against it so flagrantly irks me deeply. Not to mention the consequences such a crime carries, should we be found out.” He really shouldn’t be considering this at all, honestly. Anything other than a firm no was completely and utterly illogical.
So why was something painful tugging almost physically inside his chest at the idea of rejecting Janus’s plea?
“We swore our loyalty to the Crown,” he repeated stubbornly, wishing that just applying his logic harder would stamp out the conflict inside him.
“Well, my loyalty is to Roman first, not to a political idea that he is forced to stand for. And this is for him. It—” Janus’s jaw worked for a moment. “It’s not… entirely his fault, what happened.” They frowned, glancing away. “Don’t tell him I said that.”
Logan chewed on the inside of his cheek, frantically sorting through arguments. “Dear—” he began, and was hit with just what to say.
He hesitated. This felt manipulative. He knew how much it meant to them; it felt dirty and wrong to use it against them.
But it was the truth. It was a fact. Facts could be used to reason himself a way out of this dilemma. Couldn’t they?
“The kings put their trust in you,” he said, the words heavy in his mouth.
“That’s not fair, Logan,” Janus said immediately, not even bothering to mask the hurt that flashed across their face at his words.
Logan winced. “I know,” he said apologetically, and pushed on. “But they did. And this would be a betrayal of that trust.”
Janus hesitated, brows drawing together and lips trembling with a distress that Logan couldn’t help but wish to kiss away, even knowing that he had been the cause of it. “I…” they began, something in their face crumpling, and trailed off.
Logan forced himself to wait without speaking, resisting the urge to take their face in his hands and murmur reassurances until the creases in their brow smoothed away.
Janus was silent, staring at the ground, and Logan dared to hope he might have swayed them.
But the face Janus raised to him at last was one of unhappy resignation. “Then I’m a traitor,” they said, voice bleak and small but not wavering.
“Janus—” Logan protested.
“Roman is more important. Patton is more important. And I’ve already gone in deep enough that I can’t turn back.” Janus indicated the parchment lying on the table with Patton’s name scrawled across it. They pressed a palm to his and laced their fingers together, looking up at him. “Will you help me?”
The question lingered in the air between them, direct and challenging. Asking Logan to choose. Facts or feelings. Logic or Janus.
He could never choose anything other than Janus.
He was afraid to choose anything other than logic.

Sanders Sides Secret Santa Gift!
@sanderssidesgiftxchange
For: @authorgirl0131  Wish 1: Intruloceit Christmas fluff Wish 2: Sympathetic Deceit whump Wish 3: Logan and Deceit Christmas fluff Ao3 (it’s formatted better on there lol)
Janus, Logan, and Remus Have the Best Christmas Ever
Janus is upset after SvS Redux, so Remus and Logan try to help. Plus Christmas fluff!
We are ethically compromised if we give him a seat at the table
Snake
Liar
Rude
Spiteful
Jealous
Evil
Villain
The Light Sides’ words haunt Janus every night, only getting worse once Virgil leaves. The worst part is… he knows they’re not lying. Every insult, every implication, every rude remark, every single one was true. At least, to those who spoke them it was.
He sits alone in his room every night, Remus usually coming to check on him. Tonight, though, is special. Janus just fought with all the Lights, and told them his name! It was one thing when Remus did it, he’s crazy and unpredictable! When Janus does it… it’s serious.
Remus knocks aggressively on the ornate gold door, “Hey, ‘Anus?! You wanna hang out some? We could decapitate some of Roman’s dumb unicorns in the imagination, I sensed some trespassing earlier!”
Deceit startles on his bed, throwing back the covers (which he really shouldn’t be under this early in the evening) and mumbles just loud enough to hear, “Not tonight, Ree, I’m too tired.”
“Is it because of something they said again? I told them not to get to you, just because we’re different doesn’t mean we’re bad.”
“It doesn’t matter, Remus, just go take care of those unicorns. Maybe tomorrow we can hang out, ok?”
“Oh, um, ok. See you at dinner?”
“I don’t know if I’ll be up to it. Sorry.”
“Alright, let me know if you need anything?”
There was no response. Remus sighed, slumping away to his room.
This went on for weeks. Every day, Janus would come out for breakfast, unhinge his jaw and eat enough for the day, even though he used to eat the same as Remus(in moderation, he refuses to eat eyeballs and pubic hair). Eventually, after about two and a half weeks, Remus had had enough.
When Janus slouched into the kitchen for his daily meal, Remus slammed his hand on the table, “You are coming with me to the imagination!”
“No, Remus. I’m too tired.”
“Nope, nuh-uh, none of that ‘tired’ bullshit, you’ve said that every day for the last month!”
“Re-”
“Nope nope nope! Come with me!” Remus yelled, grabbing Janus’s arm with an unsurprisingly terrifying grin on his face.
Remus dragged Janus to the sickly stone mirror with green ooze globbing out that leads to the imagination, the snake complaining and protesting the whole way.
Once they got there though, none of the things that usually made him happy worked. When Remus had him attack Roman’s unicorns, he only said he didn’t want to make their relationship with the Light Sides even worse. They visited Janus’s giant golden two-headed snake, Eilonwy and Ethelinda, and Janus couldn’t even look her in the eyes(either set of them!). Remus even tried having him watch live musicals by sneaking into Roman’s side of the imagination, but it only reminded him of the movie nights everyone but the Dark Si- now, just Janus were invited too. Remus had stopped going, but still.
After the day spent trying to cheer Janus up in the imagination had no success, Remus decided to bring in the big guns.
The next day, Janus surprisingly didn’t get any visits from Remus. Just one text of a .gif that was weird as hell.
The day after that, however, Janus heard three precise knocks at his door, at precisely 9:00 am. He yelled out, “Remus! Just stop already! I’m fine!” The only response was another precise three knocks at his door at 9:01 am. He only grunted and curled into his heated blanket more, assuming it’s just another one of Remus’s dumb pranks.
After three knocks every minute on the minute for half an hour, Janus caved and opened the door, immediately protesting, “Remus, I swear to Thomas, I-” he stopped dead in his tracks when he looked up and saw who he was objecting to, “Logan?”
“Hello, De- Janus. Remus informed me he was concerned about you, so I have come to see,” Logan pulled out his notecards, “What is up?”
Janus chuckled, pulling the door open wider, “Okay Logan, you can come in.”
Janus puts his hat on as they walk inside, Logan looking around and noticing so much clutter. From what Remus had told him, Janus was a very organized person, almost obsessively so. Plus, the room wasn’t very warm at all, which cannot be good for someone cold-blooded.
When Logan comments on this, Janus simply brushes him off, saying he hasn’t had the time to clean up and his usual heaters would be a fire hazard with the mess.
They sit on some large extravagant armchairs in front of a fireplace, Logan favoring the black one with gold beading while Janus takes the deep yellow one with shiny black beading.
As they sit down, Janus lights the fire with a wave of his hand, trying (and failing) to subtly change his outfit into a clean one from his closet. Logan notices, but decides not to comment.
“So, what did Remus send you for again?”
“Well he didn’t exactly send me, per se, I reached out to him because I hadn’t seen you in a while, he said he would handle it, then he got me when that didn’t work.”
“Wait, really?”
“Yes, of course. I tried to bring it up to the other Light Sides, but they would not listen. Therefore, going to Remus, and consequently, you, was the best option.”
“Wow, uh, thanks, Logan, I really appreciate that. I assumed none of the Light Sides thought about how things would make us feel.”
“Granted, that is a fair assumption,” Logan quieted down, facing Janus’s bookshelves and silently reading the titles he has, mentally comparing it to books he’s read.
Janus wanted to question Logan about that, but decided to try and get to the point gradually instead, saying, “Logan,” said Side looked up at Janus, “I just want you to know that I’m sorry.”
This made Logan pause and think. After about fifteen painfully silent seconds for Janus, Logan started speaking again, “I apologize, but I do not understand. What are you sorry for exactly?”
“For, ya know, the last video.”
Logan stares at Janus.
Janus groans, “You’re really going to make me say it, huh? Okay, I’m sorry for taking your place earlier in the video.”
“Oh. Yes. That.” Logan stops, trying to formulate a response, “It is quite alright, Janus. While I was a bit hurt in the moment, I appreciate you figuratively beating some sense into the others.”
“Are you sure that you’re actually alright, though?”
“I… well, I do wish you had simply told me.” After Janus sends Logan a questioning look, Logan adds, “I know I would’ve been happy to step down and even let you disguise yourself as me, you didn’t need to knock me out. With those two, it’s very… difficult to get them to actually consider things, I know that first hand, so I entirely understand why disguising yourself as me was the most efficient way to get through to them.”
“Oh, I… I’m so sorry Logan, I hadn’t even considered that. I’m just used to expecting a no, I…”
“As stated before, it’s quite alright. Besides, I’m the one who should be apologizing.”
“What do you mean?”
Logan sighs, looking down at his shoes, “I should’ve spoken up sooner. About the Lights’ treatment of you, I mean. They were unnecessarily cruel to you, and I just stood by. I was… scared. I almost spoke up when Virgil hissed at you when you came to get your hat back from Roman, but I don’t know the whole story between you and Virgil, and I didn’t want to impose. Additionally, I…” Logan took a deep breath, doing a round of the 4, 7, 8 exercise Virgil taught them, “I was scared of being left out. I know I’ve said I don’t have feelings, but I was,” Logan chuckles, “deceitful, in that aspect.”
“Logan,” Janus seemed to be on the brink of tears of relief, “thank you so much. That means so much to me, I… hey, uh, would you want to come over for a movie night this Friday? I know movie nights with the Lights are on Saturdays, so…?”
“That sounds delightful,” Logan started to get up, “I will see you then. I apologize, but I must go. Thomas needs me at my best, I sense he’s about to start editing a new video.”
“No worries, Logan, I’ll see ya Friday.”
And so, Logan came over that Friday, and the Friday after that. After weeks of being holed up in his room, Janus started to come out more often, and Remus was very happy to see more of him. Logan started coming over every Friday, and as time went on, he even started coming over more often just to enjoy Remus and Janus’s company. Sometimes, he would visit Remus’s side of the imagination with them, other times, he would exchange books with Janus and discuss them, and eventually, he would even start inviting Janus and Remus over to view the constellations with him as he explained them and showed them the stars with his telescope.
This went on for months, and eventually, the Light Sides noticed. Whenever asked, though, Logan only stated he needed more time to himself. They laid off for a while, but eventually, it got a little suspicious, especially when they started hearing other voices coming from his room.
Finally, Patton decided to investigate. He heard the voices in Logan’s room while getting him for famILY dinner, and leaned up against the door before knocking.
“And here you’ll see MACS 2129-1, often referred to as the ‘Zombie Galaxy,” Logan happily explains.
“Oh fuck yes!” Remus yells, in turn causing a chuckle to emanate from Janus.
Logan chuckles as well, “Fuck yes indeed, Remus,” Patton gasps almost involuntarily but stays quiet enough so no one notices, “This massive, disk-shaped galaxy spins twice as fast as the Milky Way does, but it's still not nearly as active. Hubble observations of the distant galaxy reveal that it hasn't made stars for approximately 10 billion years. MACS 2129-1 is what's known as a ‘dead galaxy,’ since stars no longer form there. Scientists believed that galaxies of this sort had formed by merging with smaller galaxies over time, but MACS 2129-1's stars didn't form from these sorts of explosive mergers; they formed early on, in the disk of the original galaxy. The findings suggest that dead galaxies somehow internally rearrange their structure as they age rather than changing shape because they combine with other galaxies. I, er, I’m sorry I’m babbling, aren’t I?”
Janus shushes Logan, “No, Logan, we’ve been over this,” Janus gently places his hand on Logan’s slowly reddening cheek, “We love to hear you talk, especially about things that make you happy. Isn’t that right, Remus?”
“Hell yeah, Lo! I love hearing you get so excited about stuff, and I love learning about the stars with you, you’re a great teacher!”
By now, Patton had decided he didn’t want to intrude, he was proud of his kiddos. Logan, for reaching out and making more friends, and Janus and Remus for making Logan feel loved in a way that Patton just couldn’t seem to. He leaned back from the door and walked by, deciding to text Logan to let him know about dinner so he could come if he wanted but he didn’t have to cut his time with the Dark Sides short.
Meanwhile, Logan looked down at his phone and sighed.
“What is it, Lo-Lo?” Remus tilted his head so far to the left his head broke off.
As Remus smacked his head back in place, Logan sighed, “Patton says dinner’s about to start. I really should go.”
“You don’t have to, Logan, you know that right?”
“Yes, I’m aware but I haven’t gone all week and I’m concerned the Lights will think I’m not eating at all. I wouldn’t want Patton to get… upset.”
“Okay, okay, we all remember when Patton went all Hop Pop.”
Logan looked at both of them again with a small, but genuine, smile, dropping it as he sank down to the Light Side’s dining room.
Dinner was… awkward, to say the least.
Patton tried to break the ice, “So, Logan, you’ve been spending a lot of time in your room?”
There was a long, long pause.
“Apologies, I now realize that was a question. I assumed it was a statement. Yes, I have been spending a lot of time in my room.”
“May we ask why?” Roman sarcastically asked.
“I find that I’m more productive when I stay in my room.”
“Well, I’ve heard some other voices coming from your room…” Patton hesitantly added.
“What are you insinuating, Patton.” Logan harshly said, not asked, eyes harsh and cold.
“Well, I, uh-”
Virgil gently cut off Patton’s scrambling, “You know that we won’t be mad if you want to hang out with Remus and Janus, right?”
“Right!” Patton started, “We were actually talking about it some earlier, and we’d love to start having them over for famILY meals too!”
Logan raised an eyebrow, “Is Roman on board with this?”
Roman sighed, “I may have some issues with my brother, but a true prince wouldn’t stop other relationships from forming just because he didn’t like the other party. I know Remus, and he won’t hurt you,” he thought back to the shuriken, “well, not permanently at least.”
Logan smiled, the first genuine smile he had shown the Light Sides in months. “I can tell them.”
“Wait, Logan,” Logan looks back at Patton, “Christmas is this Friday, and well I can’t think of a better day to expand our famILY!”
Logan chuckled, “I’ll let them know,” he started to head back to his room but paused and turned to look back at the Lights, “Oh, and I’m staying with them on Christmas Eve. Apologies.”
“No problem, Logan! Thanks for letting us know!”
Once Logan got back to his room, he gave the Dark Sides the news. “Remus, Janus, I have some news.”
Remus popped up from where he was looking at his newest dagger under Logan’s covers, “Oooh? What is it, Wolverine?”
“Patton, and subsequently the other Light Sides, have invited you two and I to a famILY meal on Christmas,” Logan noticed how Janus and Remus’s eyes lit up but ignored it in favor of finishing his announcement, “I have informed them that I will be with you on Christmas Eve.”
Janus smiled, “That’s great! So, you told them about us?” Logan sat at his chess table with Janus, “Well, technically they guessed, but yes. They asked about me spending time in my room, then stated they did not disapprove of our… relationship, I suppose.”
Janus smiled, “That’s great, Lo.”
That Christmas Eve, the trio sat around the fireplace in the Dark Side’s living room. They cuddled together under a Big Hero 6 blanket while watching Die Hard, which they all of course agreed was the best Christmas movie. They had stayed up pretty late, and once the movie was over, Remus started excitedly jumping up and down, “It’s after midnight! It’s officially Christmas!”
Logan sleepily checked his watch, “You are correct, but I do not see how this is currently relevant?”
“Now I can give you guys my presents!”
Remus kept bouncing on the balls of his feet until Janus happily sighed, “Alright, what did you get us?”
Remus squealed, “I’ll show you!” while running to his room.
Janus and Logan chuckled together until Logan spoke up, “I, ahem, got you gifts as well. Would it be adequate for me to go get them?”
“Sure, I actually got some for you guys too. We’ll all go get them and meet back here.”
Logan smiled, nodded, and sank out.
When they all returned, they all had light blushes on their faces. “Who would like to go first? In handing out their presents, that is.” Logan awkwardly asked.
“I do!” Remus excitedly shouted. Logan and Janus were very much not surprised, and they all sat down on the carpet in front of the couch.
Once they were seated, Remus yeeted the presents at their recipients, both of which catching their present with ‘oof’s.
Janus ripped his open to reveal a long black cape with golden lining. He was about to start thanking Remus for the warm fabric when the clasp on it caught his eye. He looked closer, seeing a beautiful silver clasp depicting a snake and eight tentacles wrapping around a unicorn. Not trapping it, it felt more like… hugging. Protecting. He flipped it over to see an engraving, ‘J.L.R.’ “Thank you, Remus! I especially like the clasp, and the warmth and style are both surprisingly practical!”
Logan respectfully undid the poorly done tape and placed the wrapping paper to the side, opening the box to see some soft black and white fabric. When he took it out of the box and unfolded it, he saw it was a new unicorn onesie, this one black with stars instead of white, with a rainbow horn, lining, and wrists. Logan started to tear up, holding it back when he addressed Remus, “Thank you, Remus, this is… perfect.”
Despite how calmly it was stated, Janus and Remus both knew how much something had to mean to Logan for him to call it perfect.
Logan went next, getting Janus a new heated blanket with his yellow two-headed snake logo on it, which he loved. Next, he looked at Remus, “So, I did some research, and I got you something. But before I give it to you, I require confirmation that you will not use this on another side.”
“Ooo! Is it a torture device!?”
“Yes. But you cannot have it until you at least promise me that you will not use this on another side. You can use it on as many of yours or Roman’s unsuspecting imaginary townspeople as you wish, but not. A. Side.”
“Jeez, Wolverine, I promise, okay?! Now gimme.” Remus made grabby hands at Logan.
Logan reached behind his back and emerged with a metal dark grey and green pear-shaped object. He holds it out to Remus and he grabs it, “Remus, this is a Pear of Anguish. The first known account of one is in the 17th century, and it is operated as so,” Logan gently pulls the device back from Remus’s hands and twists the circle at the top, making it pop out into expanding segments, “This simple pear would be placed inside the orifice of a person and then gradually expanded. The kindest use was in a person’s mouth where it would ultimately shatter the skull, causing death. More gruesome is when it was used on parts in the lower half of the body which was rarely fatal, but excruciating.”
Remus giggled at ‘lower half of the body’ “Thank you so much, Logan! I can’t wait to try this out, you’re the best!”
Janus went last, giving Remus a silver tentacle-themed ear cuff, which he enjoyed very much, putting it on right away. Next, he gave Logan a gigantic telescope with stars and math equations all over it, with Logan’s logo big on the side. Logan teared up at the thoughtfulness and hugged Janus tight.
The three ended up spending the whole night and day following snuggling together watching cheesy Christmas romcoms, and drinking hot chocolate.
That evening, on the Light Side of the mindscape, the Lights once again did a Secret Santa. Sadly, Janus and Remus weren’t included since their attendance was decided so late, but Patton made sure to get them each something.
Logan got Roman this year, so he got him a journal full of prompts in which he could write, draw, or brainstorm. Patton got Logan, and he made him a bunch of cupcakes with the Logan’s Berry Crofters Jam, which Logan was eternally thankful for. Roman got Virgil, and he got him a grey weighted blanket which he altered by sewing on purple plaid patches with white thread to match the emo’s hoodie. Virgil was thankful he got Patton, getting him a better gift than before by hand sewing small toys of all of them, sheepishly adding he’d make Remus and Janus too “I guess.” Patton got Remus a stuffed animal of a green octopus with a mustache and he got Janus a stuffed animal of a yellow snake with a bowler hat that had a small heater inside.
Everyone loved their gifts and had a great time, but Logan couldn’t decide what his favorite part of that Christmas was; unwrapping presents with the Dark Sides at midnight or eating Crofters-filled cupcakes with them late Christmas night when all the Light Sides had gone to bed.

How much he means to me
Pattons fingers tap restlessly against his back pack straps while walking through the hall to his last class of the day. His friends Logan and Roman flank his sides, left and right respectively. They are talking about something for their English class, Romeo and Juliet possibly, Patton remembers they are reading act three in class today. He zones out again thinking about a certain missing person. It's not like he's friends with the kid or anything… well not really, but Patton has been watching him from a distance for quite some time now. Not because he's cute or anything… pfft... he just seems anxious sometimes during class and such and Patton was always a bit worried about the dark strange teen in the back of class. He always had his headphones over his ears, blocking out anything and everything in class, yet still managing to turn in all work on time or ahead of it, and keep all As and Bs. Something Patton couldn't do without his friend Logan's constant assistance. Patton often found himself distracted in class.
“-tton? Patton…?” Patton blinked from his thoughts finding both Roman and Logan looking at him curiously, they were near the classroom door now.
“Huh? Oh sorry! What was that?” Patton asks, refocusing as they enter the classroom.
“I asked if you were okay?” Roman says, his tone pitching up at the end somehow making it sound like a question rather than a statement.
“Your expression was rather distracted.” Logan adds.
“Oh, yes I'm okay!”
“Is it about Virgil being absent?” Logan asks inquisitively as they take their seats in class as    Zr. S (Joan) sets up the room for today's English lesson. Patton's face coloured at that and he looked at Logan surprised.
“What?!”
“Pat it's pretty obvious you've been crushing on a Jack Smellington for a while now.”
“Yes, your eyes dilate each time he so much as walks into the room. Speaking of which, he's not in the room, so am I right to assume you're worried about him?” Logan asks, his grey eyes sparkling intelligently under his glasses. Patton's face shifts from soft pink to burning red and he adjusts his circular glasses frames nervously.
“Lighten up, teach he's going to pass out from all that blushing.” Roman says with a knowing smirk sliding up to sit on Logan's desk. The two have been a known couple for quite some time, Logan used to get aggravated about such actions from Roman. Though now he barely glances at Roman on his desk anymore.
“I- What no I- I just, Um- I mean…” Patton is quiet for a moment, his blush only worsening by Romans attentiveness.
“Ahhh young love~” Roman swoons dramatically off the desk and into Logan, who catches him, having expected the overdramatic boy to do so. Logan, now with Roman seated on his lap smiles slightly before addressing Patton.
“You could bring him the work he misses today after school, I'm sure he would be most appreciative and you would be able to check on him without arousing suspicion.” Logan offers. Roman throws an arm around Logan and lays his head on his shoulder.
“It would be really cute if you gave him his stuff and brought him cookies, you made cookies today in baking class earlier right?”
“Well yeah but we've never really talked before… wouldn't it be weird If I just showed up at his house with English work and cookies???”
“Not if you say you made too many-” Roman starts, only to be cut off by Logan who just got an idea.
“You can say that Zr. S asked you to bring him the work from today.” Logan interrupts, Roman pouts at being interrupted and Logan moves a hand through Romans hair to compensate. Roman smiles again, leaning into the touch for a moment before speaking.
“Besides I'm sure Mr. Sanders will tell us where he lives if we say that we want to check on Virgil, he was probably going to check on him himself knowing how worried he gets about his students.”
“Oh yeah, I'm sure he has homework in science too… You should gather work from all of his teachers actually, we could go with you.”
Zr. S clears their throat as the bell rings, glancing at Roman and Logan, thankfully not only are they a lax teacher but they also couldn't care less about their students being openly gay. They begin the introduction to Act 3 and pass out the guided notes before calling a few students to the front to read for today's characters in scenes one and two.
“Janus is Petruccio, Remus is Tybalt, Patton is Benvolio, Virgil is Mercutio and Roman you can be Romeo again, Logan I need you to be Juliet later in the second scene if you don't mind.” Roman gets up quickly, taking the plastic sword and facing it at his brother, Remus, who has his sword already as well, Logan stays seated smirking and Patton raises his hand tentatively as he stands. “Yes Patton?”
“Um, Zr. S Virgil isn't here today.” He says, glancing at Virgil's seat while making his way to the front. Joan follows Patton's gaze to find their perfect attendance student in fact missing, they frown slightly.
“That's odd…” They say, “He's never been absent before… hmm.” They think for a moment, “Val you can be Mercutio then, I will print out filled in notes for Virgil and hold it for when he returns.”
“I can take it!” Patton says quickly, Zr. S turns to him, eyebrow raised and Patton pinkens slightly.
Joan smiles, they would have been blind not to notice the looks Patton constantly sneaks at Virgil during class. Though this sudden confidence was a bit unexpected, Zr. S gathers the papers from the printer and hands them to Patton. “Perfect, would you like me to inform the other teachers that you will be bringing his assignments to him?”
“Yes! I can pick them up after class and take them over to his house if that's okay with you.”
“Certainly, I'll let you leave early with Roman and Logan to do so.” They say as Patton smiles before moving back to his seat to place the papers in his bag. “We need a Benvolio still so come back up here Patton.”
Patton does as he's asked and returns to the front, taking a sword and a Romeo and Juliet book to use for the reading. The rest of class runs rather quickly, Roman being over dramatic, Val gets killed by Remus, flanked by Janus, after which Roman avenges by “killing” him. Roman gets banished and Logan runs through his elegant soliloquy, the way he reads it almost causing Roman, in his seat, to actually swoon. Though Logan is a bit stiff at times he is quite a nerd for Shakespeare, and would rather read the part with emotion like it was intended, than without. Nearing the end of class Zr. S calls Patton, Roman and Logan to the front and sends them off with a hall pass as they said they would. They stop by all of Virgil’s classes, Logan for some reason knowing his schedule though they only share English and Science with him.
They end up at Science last, walking into Mr. Sanders classroom, mostly empty seeing that the bell had rung a few minutes ago. Patton knocks on the doorframe since it's already open and they walk in to find Mr. Flores (Nico), the Music teacher, chatting with Mr. Sanders, and sitting on his desk in the same fashion Roman was to Logan’s desk earlier. Mr. Flores smiles at the kids and kicks Thomas’ knee lightly to get him to look up from the song the two had been working on.
“Hey boys! What brings you here this morning?” Thomas asks, looking at the boys entering the room.
“Afternoon.” Mr. Flores and Logan correct in unison.
“Ah- my bad, time is hard to keep track of. What brings you here this afternoon.” He says with a chuckle. Roman nudges Patton with his elbow and Patton steps forward slightly with a shy smile.
“I came to pick up Virgil's work for today-”
“Oh right! Joan emailed me about that a bit ago.” Thomas gets up and moves to the printer, gathering the papers he had printed for them. He turns back around and hands them to Patton. “There ya go Pat, I also included directions to his house that I was going to use to check on him later. I wasn't sure if you knew how to get there or not.” Logan gives Patton a raised eyebrow look that says ‘Told you’ and Patton shoots back a smile before turning it on Mr. Sanders.
“Thanks Mr. Sanders! I wasn't expecting the directions but they will help… I've never been to his house before.” Patton responds with a shy smile. Logan and Roman exchange a look over Pattons head, both smiling.
Thomas nods with a bright expression, “Anything to help out my students, just make sure he's doing okay and text me after you check in on him alright Pat? You still have my number from the bake sale earlier this year right?” Patton nods quickly, remembering how Mr. Sanders was one of the main teachers in charge of the event along with Patton's baking teacher Mr. Williams (Terrence). Pattons gaze rises to the wall clock over Mr. Flores’ head, seeing it's been around twenty minutes since school let out he glances at the door in silent question. Thomas smiles at him with a laugh. “You don't need my permission to leave the room afterschool like you do during the day Patton, you three can go. I only have that rule so that Remus doesn't sneak out before the end of class like he loves to do.” The trio laugh and Thomas, along with Nico, chuckle. Both have Remus in their classes this year.
It's not long before the three boys are back in the halls and Nico is back chatting alone with Thomas about their days. Roman and Logan walk side by side on the right side of Patton, this time roman gushing about how cute Mr. Sanders and Mr. Flores are as a couple. They have been married for around three years now, having gotten married in the boys first year in high school. Even now, in their Senior year, Roman couldn't get over the pictures that he had begged for, of their wedding. Logan just listened to his boyfriends gush per usual, Roman often just liked someone to listen to him, Logan enjoyed being the one to do so, even if sometimes he pretended he didn't. The nerd and prince headed for Logan's car and said quick goodbyes to Patton, who was eager to check on Virgil.
Within a few moments Patton has discarded his backpack along with Virgil's assignments in the passenger seat and is already on the road, directions in hand. He follows them perfectly and drives a little too fast to Virgil's house. Once he pulls his baby blue Kia Rio into the driveway behind a purple jeep, he begins to get a bit nervous, but pushes past it. He's just going to give him the homework and the cookies and ask why he wasn't at school because Mr. Sanders was worried. Yeah… that's reasonable right? Not weird or creepy or anything. Patton tries to convince himself of this as he walks to the door, Virgil's work on top of the tupperware he grabbed from his backpack.
Working up the courage to knock he taps on the door da da duh-duh da da, his typical musical knock from Frozen. He hums ‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman’ for a moment but after a bit he tries again. He doesn't hum this time and instead shifts on his feet worriedly. He stares at the doorknob for a moment before testing it tentatively. It turns easily and the door gives, opening into an entryway. Patton pales slightly at the unlocked door. Due to Virgil's high anxiety that Logan had assumed he had there's no way having this door unlocked would be a normal occurrence. Patton moves forward a bit, not yet in the house and looks around.
“Virgil?” He calls waiting a moment for a panicked response or maybe a startled one. Only silence is reflected back at him. He takes a step inside, his worry overcoming his anxiousness. “Virgil…?” He calls again, closing the door behind him and walking carefully down the hall. There were no cars in the driveway save for Virgil's purple Jeep, and there for some reason is no garage. Then again the driveway is a bit longer than standard, Patton realizes Virgil must be home alone today. “Virgil? It's Patton, I came to drop off the schoolwork that you missed-”
A door opens to Patton's left on the hallway and he jumps, startled by the sudden sound. He swivels to face it and immediately chokes on whatever he was about to say. Standing in the doorway, leaning heavily on it, was Virgil. His eyes were unfocused and tired, staring through Patton rather than at him. He was covered in a sheen of sweat, and Patton quickly noticed he had no shirt on and lowered his eyes blushing fiercely.
“Oh great,” Virgil rasps “Another Patton hallucination,” He twirls a finger in the air “Not doing to confuse me this time dumbass brain, I'm going to get water and go back to sleep-” Virgil cut off, coughing roughly into his elbow, his entire body racking with the coughs. Once finished he inhales painfully and winces before moving from the doorway and stumbling to the kitchen using the wall for support, leaving a flustered Patton in his wake.
Patton, now leaning against the wall, watches Virgil leave and has half a mind to help him, but the other half has malfunctioned. Pattons head catches up with him slowly and his blush subsides, Virgil now in the kitchen down the hall where Patton can't see him. Pattons breathing slows as well as he carefully works through what just happened. Sick Virgil is home alone and thinks Patton is a hallucination. Again. Again? He said another Patton hallucination right…? That means he's… had one before- Focus. Virgil's sick. I can help.
Without another thought Patton refocuses on helping Virgil, he walks into the kitchen and finds the teen leaning dizzily on the counter with a glass of water in hand. Patton sets down the cookies and papers on the counter beside him and moves over to Virgil. Ignoring the fact that he still doesn't have a shirt on. Ignoring the way his lean muscles are visible and highlighted by the shimmer of sweat from his sickened state. Ignoring the way his chocolate eyes dully gleam with the sunlight shining through the window- IGNORING.
Patton places a hand on Virgil's head and retracts it quickly. “Virgil you're burning up!” He exclaims, “Finish drinking that water I'll be right back.” Patton hurries off, Virgil does as the hallucination told him, downing the water and waiting patiently for it to come back. Another coughing fit seizes him and when Patton does return Virgil is on the ground leaned against the cabinets. Patton comes rushing back in with a wet washcloth, having found a dry one under the sink in the downstairs bathroom. He finds Virgil on the floor swaying unsteadily and moves over to him quickly putting an arm under his shoulders and helping him up. “Virgil I'm going to help you back to your room okay just walk with me okay?” Patton moves forward and an unsteady Virgil follows, using Patton for support, still caught in a sick haze.
It's not long before they are back in the bedroom, Patton gets Virgil onto the bed and tucked into a thin sheet so that way he's not too hot. Virgil smiles softly at Patton the whole time, still thinking the encounter is a nice dream. Patton finishes fussing around Virgil's room and getting the water on his bedside table refilled and situated. Patton sits on the edge of the bed and runs a hand through Virgil's slick purple bangs, stuck to his face, moving them out of the way of his eyes gently. Virgil's lopsided smile continues and Patton chuckles at the puppylike look that he's never seen on Virgil before.
“What's that look for?” he asks, stifling a giggle.
“I just wish you would notice me like this in real life too…” He says softly, a smile still present as he looks up at Patton. Patton blinks surprised and blush rises to his face at the comment. He looks away nervously. His mind races for something to respond with, but before he can he hears soft slow breathing from the bed and turns to find Virgil fast asleep. Patton exhales and smiles slightly sadly at the asleep teen. He runs a hand through Virgil's hair again with a sigh.
“I should have approached you sooner… and said something other than just saying hi to you in the mornings…” Patton murmured to Virgil's sleeping form. Patton gets up off the bed and heads back to the kitchen, gathering all the materials to make soup for when Virgil wakes back up again. Patton works quietly in the kitchen, not wanting to wake Virgil up, he knows that it's not likely Virgil ate lunch in that state, let alone breakfast. He didn't seem to be the type to eat breakfast.
Patton finishes the soup and leaves it to cool, going back to check on Virgil and finding him upside down about to fall off the bed, snoring softly. Patton giggles and moves him back onto the bed, a hand takes Patton's wrist as he's about to get up and next thing he knows he's in the bed beside Virgil's sleeping form. Virgil has both arms wrapped around Patton's abdomen, Pattons back against Virgil's bare chest. Patton's face flushes and he stifles a squeak. He's tense and blushing deeply for a moment but after a bit he leans into Virgil's warm embrace, sighing softly his eyes flutter for a moment as he tries to stay awake. The long day of worrying at school plus the calming breathing from Virgil with him so close nearly pulled him under. That is until his phone dings from his back pocket. Pattons eyes open again and he realizes it's going to be a bit difficult to get to his phone. Patton carefully maneuvers his hand behind him, under Virgil's arm and to his back pocket, carefully pulling it out so that it doesn't wake virgil. His arm brushes against Virgil's six pack and he blushes scarlet, grabbing his phone and holding it to his chest, waiting a moment to see if he woke Virgil. The steady breathing continues and after a moment he risks a glance at his phone. 7:36. It's been nearly two hours since he got here. His gaze trails down and finds the reason for the dinging, another sound rings from his phone and he stifles it with his hand before turning it on silent. After doing so he opens the group chat message.
Logan: Hey Pat haven't heard from you in a bit, you doing okay?
Roman: Hes fine Lo, I'm sure he's just making out with the emo, give them some space
Patton manages to blush deeper as he reads the messages.
Patton: no, we're doing no such thing! but um, i need some help…
Logan: What's wrong?
Roman: Did he hurt you??????
Logan: Were on our way.
Patton: no! no i'm fine it's okay! i um, don't come here, it's just…
Roman: Just…???
Patton: um… so… how do you get out of the arms of someone who's asleep without waking them…?
Roman: WHATTTTTTTTT!?!?!? Patton, skipped a couple steps there dontcha think? [wink wink]
Patton: NO THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEAN!!
Roman: Dang Padre you work fast~
Patton: roman that's not what i mean quit!
Logan: Am I right to assume that he's sick and you accidentally got mistaken for a hallucination?
Roman: What's with that off the wall guess babe??
Logan: I had assumed he was sick earlier today and given Patton's predicament it would make sense.
Patton: um actually logan that's exactly what happened
Roman: Wow, I stand corrected
Logan: Wouldn't be the first time
Patton: right so how do i get out?
Logan: If he's asleep and sick you theoretically should be able to move without waking him. What are his symptoms if you don't mind me asking?
Patton: um, fever, dizziness i think, cough- like a really bad cough, and he's tired… oh and hallucinating i think, or at least maybe he was earlier, i'm not sure. He said something about “another patton hallucination”
Roman: Sounds like he dreams of you often~
Logan: It sounds like a bad cold, check the house for ibuprofen, it should help with the fever, the dizziness and hallucinations may be side effects of the fever and the cough is the cold. A cold wash cloth also could be beneficial. Have you removed yourself from his bed yet?
Patton shifts slightly, no he hasn't moved from Virgil's arms... He doesn't particularly want to though he probably should. Virgil needs to eat something and the soup is definitely cold by now. It should still taste fine heated up, with a quiet sigh Patton moves to slip out of his arms, Virgil shifts and his arms clutch the pillow in Patton's absence. Virgil frowns softly in his sleep and Patton pouts slightly knowing he caused that. Patton places a cool hand on Virgil's head, his head isn't warm like it was earlier, his fever must have broken. With that new information Patton smiles and turns and heads back into the kitchen.
Patton: yeppers, i got a washcloth earlier, i checked just now and i think his temperature broke, i'm going to reheat the soup i made now and see if i can get him to eat something, i doubt he's eaten anything all day seeing as he's home alone…
Roman: A tragic sick prince trapped alone in his tower! In dire need of true loves kiss from Prince Patton to wake him from his sleep~
Logan: Ignore Roman, that's good, since it broke make sure he drinks lots of water, he's going to need the fluids in his system after being sick like that. Also his parents are on a business trip so your assumption about his eating habits are most likely accurate.
Roman: How do you know his parents are on a trip???
Logan: It's all over their facebook page, apparently they leave on trips often and are rarely home
Patton: that's kindve sad… i'm bringing him soup i'll be back later
Patton takes the soup and places it back on the stove to heat back up. Finding some bowls after some searching through the cabinets he takes them and pours the soup into two of them before bringing the bowls back to Virgil's room. He finds Virgil awake in the bed looking actually awake now that his fever has broken, some of his color has returned to his skin and he's stopped sweating. He's sitting up in the bed, eyes on his phone when Patton walks in.
“Oh you're awake!” Patton exclaims with a smile.
“Patton!?!” Virgil nearly jumps out of his skin before dissolving into a rather violent coughing fit at the sudden usage of his voice.
Patton quickly sets the soups down on the nightstand and hands Virgil the water along with some cough medication he found and placed on the nightstand a while ago. “Sorry! I didn't mean to startle you…” He says as Virgil eyes him with confusion and a bit of anxiety, downing the water quickly along with some of the cough medicine. After a moment he tests his voice tentatively again.
“What are you doing here in my house- how did you- why-?” Virgil's breathing quickens and he starts coughing again, this time blushing furiously as well. Patton moves closer sitting on the bed like he was earlier, Virgil stops coughing and watches Patton anxiously.
“Zr. S and Mr. Sanders were worried about you, well mostly Mr. Sanders… he was actually planning on coming to check you out himself and stuff um but I offered to bring you your work and so, well I did and yeah so I knocked but you didn't answer or anything so well your door was unlocked and I- I wanted to make sure you were okay...” Patton rambles blushing as well. “I um- well I can leave if you are feeling better now, s-sorry kiddo!” Patton gets up quickly from the bed and turns to leave, a hand wraps quickly around Patton's wrist and he stops, turning slowly.
Virgil's hand encircles Patton's wrist carefully, as if scared if he squeezed too tight Patton would run. Virgil's eyes were trained on his hand around Pattons, a faint blush coating his features that Patton couldn’t tell if it was him being sick or him blushing because of Patton. Both were quiet for a moment. Virgil lets go of Patton's hand suddenly and speaks.
“I um- well you don’t have to leave, you just startled me…” he says quietly and leans against the back of the bed again. “Sorry.” Virgil says, glancing up to Pattons eyes for a moment before quickly falling to his phone again. The screen is black Patton notices.
“Oh.” Is all Patton can say, stepping to the side and taking the soup off the nightstand after a second. “I made soup for you.” Patton chitters excitedly handing the bowl to Virgil. Virgil's lips quirk slightly up into a small smile taking the bowl from Patton's hands.
“Thanks…” he says quietly, taking the spoon as well. Patton takes the other bowl and sits on the edge of the bed beside Virgil. Virgil dips the spoon into the soup and eats a scoop of it, mostly to please Patton who was watching him.
“Mmmm~” Virgil hums involuntarily, he snaps a hand over his mouth and blushes embarrassed. There is silence for a second before Patton giggles quietly, it quickly turns to a happy laugh and Virgil, even though embarrassed, catches the contagious laugh. Both can’t stop for a bit of time but once Virgil's laughs dissolve into coughs Patton stops and helps by getting water and giving it to him. Virgil drinks the water thankfully and Patton sits on the edge of the bed watching him to make sure he’s okay. Virgil places the water cup on the nightstand and looks up, locking eyes with Patton once more finding his eyes soft and concerned… caring. Virgil chokes on the water he was swallowing and ends up coughing again, unused to the sincerity in Patton's eyes. Or in anyone’s eyes directed at him. “S-sorry” he says coming out of the second coughing fit.
“It's okay, don't apologize for being sick! I just wish you would have told me- er someone sooner…” Patton leans down and pushes Virgil's bangs out of his eyes that had fallen back after the coughing fit. His fingers delicately brush the bangs back, his caring careful touch causing Virgil to shiver, the gentleness a forgiven feeling to him. His parents are typically gone and no students have made any effort to get to know him other than Janus and Remus, they don’t exactly do gentle things. The closest thing Virgil has gotten from them is a punch in the shoulder from Remus or a pat on the head from Janus when they're feeling generous.
Virgil leans into the touch, eyes fluttering closed for a second before he quickly snaps his head away from Patton's hand and turns his head back to the soup. Patton watches him carefully with a slight frown drawing back to where he was sitting before, taking his bowl quietly back in his lap. They eat quietly now, with each second of silence unsaid emotions continue to brew between the two. The silence presses on Virgil uncomfortably making him feel more socially anxious than usual.
“So, uh, random question, how did you get to my house?” Virgil askes tentatively, spooning soup into his mouth after asking the question. Patton perks up and looks at Virgil with a shy smile.
“Mr. Sanders printed me directions… I hope that's not weird or anything.” He says slowly, finishing his soup and fiddling with the spoon idly. Virgil just smirks slightly at his nervous behaviour.
“Nah, not weird for a teacher to print directions to a students house so that a student can come to check on another when they've missed school for a single day.” Virgil teases, patton blushers slightly.
“Yeah sorry, though it's a bit weird for you though, you have never missed a single day this year, I haven't even seen you enter class late or anything once.” Pat remarks, thinking back on past experiences through the year. Virgil raises one eyebrow and his lips quirk into a smirk.
“Have you been spying on me or something Patton?” he questions playfully, spooning the last bits of soup into his mouth. Patton stands and takes his bowl.
“Course not, Mr. Sanders said that's why he was so concerned.” He covers quickly, turning with the bowls to hide the blush he got from the question. He scampers quicker than needed into the kitchen and cleans it, all of his soup materials and the bowls clearing his head with it.
Meanwhile Virgil is left to his thoughts, tucked delicately into the sheets Patton had prepared for him before. All Virgil can think of are those eyes. The soft bright blue eyes, gazing at him with care and concern that he didn't deserve. Or at least no one seemed to think he did. No one but Patton. The cute kid in his english class. The peppy boy who constantly made Virgil smile, even on the worst of days, his cheery disposition lighting up any room he entered. That smile that couldn't be dulled by the darkest sunglasses. The freckles that seemed to light up like stars dusted across his cheeks when he was excited or happy about something. The way he loved to gush over animals, cats and dogs mostly. How he loved to talk about and share his baking with others constantly. The contagious laugh that spreads like wildfire across the room when he's content. The boy who is now in his house. In his kitchen. Oh fu<k hes in the house.
A bit of anxiety begins to creep into Virgil at the realization that his practically lifelong crush was in his house. While he was sick- he probably looked horrible! Virgil gets up from the bed quickly, his balance slightly unsteady as he moves to the bedpost, grabbing his patched purple and black hoodie off of it. He pulls it on before heading to the bathroom and applying his usual black makeup he uses to cover the constant dark spots under his eyes from his insomnia and late nighters for school.
After fixing himself and making sure his sweat pants were also presentable he makes his way into the kitchen. Patton is at the sink with his back turned to Virgil. A scenario runs through Virgil's head, in it he walks quietly to Patton and hugs Patton from behind while he washes dishes. Patton turns and with a gentle smile brings a hand to Virgil's face before kissing his cheek- Virgil snaps from his thoughts, blushing dark now, Patton seems to sense his presence and turns his head to look at him. Those sky blue eyes pierce Virgil and his heart skips a beat, Pattons gaze turns concerned, given how red Virgil is he assumes something is wrong. Before Patton can do or say anything though Virgil breaks eye contact and pivots on his heel to head for the living room, breaking off into a fit of coughs. Patton finishes and dries his hands, bringing water to Virgil for what must have been the hundredth time, though Patton didn't mind. In fact he rather liked helping Virgil- er people, not just Virgil, people in general. Patton hands the water to Virgil who drinks it quickly, mumbles a thank you and proceeds to scroll through Disney Plus. After some indecisive scrolling he settles on The Nightmare Before Christmas, it takes a moment for him to realize Patton is still standing beside the couch, his eyes on the tv in a curious way.
“I was just going to um watch a movie, it's getting a bit late Pat… you can like head home, I don't want to make you stay here or anything… Not that I am- well maybe I mean I guess I haven't said anything about you leaving yet, sorry am I making you feel trapped here… um and your parents I-”
“No.”
“...No what…?”
“You're not making me stay or feel trapped or uncomfortable, and both my parents work shifts at the hospital at this time, they won't be home till early morning...” Patton slides onto the couch beside Virgil, leaving a comfortable but close amount of space between them. Virgils quiet, unsure what to say so Patton speaks again, “I've never seen this movie you know.”
“What?? Really? It's my favorite, I had figured Prince Disney would have forced you and the nerd to watch all the movies by now.” Virgil remarks, ignoring how close together they are on the couch and staring straight through the screen, rather than at it.
“Prince Disney… oh are you talking about Roman?” Pattons airy laugh fills the room and Virgil feels heat rise to his neck just hearing it. “Well he does like to watch disney movies but I haven't gotten around to every movie he's wanted me to watch yet.” Patton chuckles and Virgil starts to hum to ‘This Is Halloween’ absentmindedly thinking.
“So you're usually busy then?” Virgil inquires hesitantly after a moment. Patton sinks into the seat some at the question.
“Uhh yeah… usually I'm doing work for classes or baking… It typically takes me a while to do homework, I don't focus very well and it's difficult to understand some topics. Logan helps me sometimes, but a lot of times I don't want to bother him… he's usually with Roman or doing his own work...” Patton replies slowly, a bit embarrassed from admitting that fact.
“I could help.” Virgil says before his mind catches up with his words, Patton turns his eyes from the screen and looks at Virgil with a hopeful expression, his eyes shining.
“Really??” He asks in response, Virgil breaks eye contact with Patton fiddling with one of the rings on his fingers.
“I mean- well yeah… I don't really have plans,” Ever, he considers adding but decides against it, “I'm usually just... here, doing school work and watching movies and stuff… my parents aren't exactly home often so…” I'm lonely, once again he decides not to add what his mind ads for him. Pattons hopeful expression kicks up excitement, his blue eyes twinkling with it.
“Thank you!!! I mean you don't have to or anything I- I understand If you don't want to help me or something or if you don't really mean it-” Patton rambles quickly, Virgil cuts him off.
“No- Pat it's fine, I want to help.” he says, a shy yet sure smile crossing his lips. Pattons eyes shine with happy unshed tears, before Virgil can blink Patton quickly throws his arms around him with a happy squeal. The unexpected hug sends Virgil falling against the couch, Patton not even noticing as he hugs Virgil tightly. Virgil lands against the couch with an oof and blushes fiercely a reaction to the gesture.
Patton detaches himself from Virgil once realizing what happened and finds himself positioned directly above those coco brown eyes and flushed pale face, Pattons hands at either side of his head. Virgil stares up at Patton unmoving, and Patton stares back, just as still. Patton has the urge to apologize again but the words die in his throat as Virgil's eyes flash with something Patton doesn't recognize seeing in those brown eyes before. Courage.
Driven by a sudden impulse, Virgil leans up from the couch and joins Patton's lips with his, Pattons eyes flutter shut after a split second of surprise, leaning into the kiss he's been imagining ever since he first saw the dark mysterious teen at school. Virgil's hands find their way to Pattons waist and linger there at his sides, Pattons moving to Virgil's hair as they sink back against the couch together. After a moment their lips part and they look at each other. Neither say a word, staring into eachothers eyes, infatuated by the lingering taste of the kiss on each of their lips.
Virgil is the first to respond, his mind catches up with him and his fight or flight response kicks in. His eyes go wide in realization of what he just did and he blushes, fiery red climbing from his neck to his face at an impossible rate. Panic floods his system as he decides flight.
“S-Sorry! Oh god- fu<k- I didn't- sorry you probably didn't want to- I- Patton I'm sorry- I didn't mean to- Patton you um- fu<k you should go- I made you uncomfortable- I don't know what got into me- now you could be sick- sh!t-” He sputters covering his face with his hands and wishing he could sink into the couch and just disappear. He feels Patton's warmth move from his chest, a spike of sadness quickly drives itself into his heart at its absence. He bites his lip and chews on it, his hands still covering his face as he chokes back the lump starting to form in his throat.
D@mn!t he fu<ked up- why does he even try- why did he ruin everything, he could have at least been friends with patton… he was excited to get school help- I was excited to help him! And here I go- everything I touch gets fu<ked up- it's better if he leaves anyways… Everyone always leaves, it's nothing new...
Virgil's thoughts spiral quickly in his head, chastising him and making him feel increasingly worse about the situation while Patton sits on the couch. Pattons eyes have shifted from awestruck to empathetic, Virgil lies there shaking, his hands covering his face as he spews apologies and stammers incoherent sentences. Patton reaches over and carefully takes Virgil's hands from his face, holding them in his. Virgil quiets and so does his head, watching Patton, still shaking. Patton squeezes Virgil's hands with a soft comforting smile, the smile shifts to nervous and Patton looks down at their hands.
“You didn't make me uncomfortable… and um… actually I did want to…” Patton looks back up and meets Virgil's eyes. “I liked it.” He says quietly. Virgil blinks, once… twice, his expression unreadable. Virgil's hands move in Patton's, shifting until their palms are together and their fingers are intertwined, eyes still locked. A gentle fondness finds its way into Virgil's gaze, his panic subsiding. Virgil hears the song that has taken the movie in the background and smiles softly at Patton, his voice syncing with Sallys as he sits up carefully to face Patton properly.
“And does he notice…”
Virgil's right hand separates from Pattons and makes its way to Pattons cheek, caressing it gently, his thumb sweeps back and forth as the uncertainty he was feeling earlier fades, only to be replaced by a confidence he rarely ever feels.
“My feelings for him?”
Pattons free hand slides against Virgil's hand against his cheek as Patton gazes into his fond chocolate eyes. A look Patton has been craving to see from him for a while now.
“And will he see”
Virgil moves closer on the couch, their knees now touching, the space between the two becoming increasingly smaller until the two are right in front of each other. Breathing the same air, noses brushing delicately against each other.
“How much he means to me?”
Patton closes the distance this time, meeting in the center as Virgil's voice fades on the last word of that line. The two kiss again. This time different, less surprised, more intentional. Their lips meeting more than once, continuously coming together and breaking apart, longer kisses savored and shorter ones filled with longing. Patton moves his hand from virgils and shifts closer, Virgil taking Patton carefully into his lap and holding him close as they continue to kiss. Virgil's arms around Patton making him feel secure and wanted. Safe. Patton in Virgil's arms making him feel needed, valued and worth something.
The two part again, both breathless and dazed, foreheads resting on each other, eyes closed. After a moment Virgil bites his lip, speaking hesitantly.
“Are you sure-” Patton silences him with another kiss.
“Yes.” He says, soft yet still certain.
“Okay…” Virgil whispers breathlessly. Without another word Patton lays his head on Virgil's shoulder and the two finish the movie together. Virgil holds Patton close, one hand trailing gently over his back while the other lies intertwined with one of Pattons.
Once it ends, neither bother to mess with Disney Plus as it switches to Tangled, one of Patton's favorites, Virgil soon learns by Pattons knowledge of every word. Patton also expresses this by Singing all the words happily and expressing ecstatic excitement over dashing dark rouge that's Flynn Rider. Virgil mimics the smoulder to Pattons sheer delight, his laughter fills Virgil's heart and they end up kissing again, the night passing quickly as they watch Tangled. They duet ‘Now I see the Light’ together, and as it ends dissolve into yet another kiss shared between the two. Patton gets Virgil more water and the cookies he had made earlier that day, Virgil eating one before devouring a few others after realizing one wasn't enough. What? Patton's baking was goooooood. Plus Virgil has quite the sweet tooth for someone so dark and gloomy. Patton giggles at how quickly he eats them, having a cookie himself before they disappear. Virgil's eyes start to droop as fatigue weighs on him, Patton too stifles a yawn and curls up with Virgil once more, this time laying on the couch with him, his glasses on the coffee table. Virgil's head propped on the armrest with a pillow, Patton tucked against his chest, his back against the couch they watch as Aladdin plays next. Virgil is asleep before Arabian night ends, his chest rising and falling slowly against Patton's back as he watches the movie unfold, it's not long before he's asleep as well, falling victim to Virgil's warm embrace and the sweet symphony of ‘A Whole New World.’

Wait Can you do OTP questions for Moxiety please?
1. Who has the cutest tickle laugh?
Aw man this is super tough. In all honesty, I think both of them are utterly completely in love with the other’s love.
Virgil’s laugh is so joyous and so carefree, just the opposite of how he portrays himself. Patton just falls in love with Virgil all over again every time he hears it and that’s why he makes sure to hear that laugh every single day.
Patton’s laugh is exactly how you would think it would be. It’s purely childish, carefree, belly laughs with the occasional ear-splitting shriek. His face always goes all red and scrunchy. It’s so much more adorable than you expect, even after years of tickle fights and giggle fits.
2. Who is ticklish in unusual places and where would that be?
Patton has some adorably ticklish ears. But, to make it weirder, his right ear is soooooo much more ticklish. It’s not often that Virgil gets the chance to properly tickle them as much as they deserve but he makes sure to treasures the moments he can. There’s no greater joy than taking a fluffy feather and curling around his right ear while whispering teases into his other ear. Seeing them slowly glow bright red, is worth tickling them alone but of course the frantic giggling and wimpy “stop!”s and “it tickles!” also makes it worth tickling them every chance Virgil can get. When he’s bored/anxious, they’re the perfect distraction and fidgeting thing.
3. Who gets cheer-up tickles?
To put a spin on this, Virgil always gets the cheer-up tickles but Patton also gets a weird moment of calm when tickling Virgil. To cheer-up Patton, you need to let him tickle you. When they’re both stressed or upset, they will curl up in their pjs under the bed blankets and Patton will slowly start to tickle Virgil. They’ll spoon and gentle tracing around his tummy will slowly turn into digging scribbles as he pins his arms down and holds his top up. For Virgil, letting himself laugh and relax into Patton’s firm cuddle is so grounding and distracting. For Patton, focusing on the tickles and knowing that no matter what Virgil will love him and he can always make Virgil laugh and look over him.
4. Who takes advantage of the other one getting their arms stuck while taking off their shirt?
Patton is the ultimate tickle monster and will deliberately look for every single opportunity to give some tickles to his grumpy emo storm cloud! Virgil is useless in the morning and just fumbles around until things work. It’s not unusual for Patton to take pity and help him put his jumpers on. But, of course, his help comes with the fact of life that he will scribble down his sides as he pulls the jumper down. Oh and look this jumper is tightly stuck so it’s taking awhile. Oh please stand still Virge, I’ve just got to get it unstuck from the exact middle of your armpits. Lots of teasing which is really unfair as Virgil’s brain as yet to load and he’s forced to just stand there and try not to fall. He can’t even try to fight back, he’s just got to stand there and make sure his knees don’t melt.
5. How did they discover each other’s ticklishness?
I don’t know why this sudden image came to me but! I can just imagine Patton cleaning the house after a good baking session and he pulled out a feather duster. He was practically glowing as he realised he must look like a 1950s housewife. Patton dances around the living room while twirling this feather duster. Virgil walks in and he jokingly swats him with the duster. Now, Virgil was wearing a thick jumper as per usual. There was no way it could possibly tickle. But yet his mind just panicked. He is the epitome of flight and fight. His brain convinces him that Patton somehow discovered his greatest secret and he must fight back. So he grabs the duster and quickly shoves it under Patton’s top to which Patton then immediately buckles and starts squealing. Virgil ends up tickling the snot out of his boyfriend.
Afterwards, Patton asks just what on earth sparked that moment of playfulness and Virgil instinctually answers that he thought Patton would tickle him first. Which of course results a duster being shoved up his jumper in revenge.
6. Who can’t take tickle bites?
Patton but not really for the reasons to be expected. He can take tickle bites but his ultimate weakness is raspberries. And he knows for a fact that if Virgil is doing tickle bites then raspberries are coming. The instant Virgil puts his mouth on him, he screaming and wiggling even faster. So Virgil uses tickle bites as anticipation for raspberries which makes them absolutely unbearable for Patton.
7. Who has to be tickle-forced out of bed in the morning?
As mentioned earlier, Virgil is useless in the morning but Patton wants them both to wake up at the same time just like in all the love films and books. It becomes a game between them. Patton will wake up and still see his darling boyfriend dead to the world in his arms and he will gently tickle up and down his sides. “Oh, just how I love waking up to these summer mornings with my darling boyfriend, who’s definitely awake and enjoying the morning with me. You can tell he’s awake and ready for the beautiful day awaiting us because he’s just giggling at the thought of enjoying today!”.
8. Who gives up in a tickle fight?
Surprisingly Patton. Patton enjoys tickles with absolutely no shame, maybe some embarrassment and blushing but he will “oh no!” become suddenly weak and helpless and so forced to sit there and just enjoy those tingly tickles. Sometimes, even he he is fighting back, he will deliberately stop for a second to just enjoy Virgil’s giggles as he wrecks his tickle monster boyfriend. He just wants to enjoy the open joy Virgil is feeling. If Patton has one ultimate weakness, it would be Virgil. He’d take all the tickles in the world to see Virgil having fun and messing about.
9. Who is in danger of getting hurt when attacking the other?
Virgil is the most danger when tickling Patton. Patton always wants to enjoy his tickles and so he tries with all of his might and strength to enjoy them and sit still. But, he’s not very strong. Virgil will think Patton is just lying there and will focus on his tickling and then suddenly it becomes too much and Patton kicks out violently with no warning. Virgil has had quite a few bruises from Patton to which Patton almost cries over hurting him.
10. Who always provokes the other into tickling them and how?
Hmm, a bit of both. Virgil knows that tickling someone is a great stress release for Patton and so he will go through subtle hints like “oh my foot is super itchy” or “could you give me a massage” to some outright storming into his room with his shirt pulled up and his tummy proudly showing to the world. There have been times where Virgil thinks that Patton is more stressed than he is but Patton will never turn down a blushing Virgil asking for tickles.
For Patton, he thinks he’s super subtle but he’s really not. He’s the one to wear an outfit to ‘hint’ at tickles. Virgil will be eating his bowl of cereal, slowing waking up, and Patton will walk in with short shorts, a crop top and knee high socks with ‘tickle me’ written across the soles. Subtle, obviously. It’s through this that Patton actually realises that he loves knee high socks and he loves that tracing over them makes things so much more ticklish! Soft tickles don’t really work for him for him on bare soles but the soft tickles over the fluffy socks really get him!

...
Finally, it was Friday. Between classes, Virgil was pacing quickly down the hall when he noticed Logan exchanging things from his locker. He also saw Roman approaching the tall boy, adorning a mischievous smile. Virgil decided to slip out of sight behind the bustle of the hallway to observe their interaction, staying hidden near the walls.
Roman stood directly behind Logan and tapped him on the shoulder. Logan turned fully around, and upon seeing Roman, he opened his mouth to speak. He was quickly was interrupted, however, as Roman put his hand against the locker at Logan's side, and traced his other hand down Logan's button-up-covered chest. Logan was pinned against his open locker. Virgil couldn't make out the things Roman was saying to him, but Logan looked blatantly... caught off guard, to say the least. His pearly white cheeks were dusted pink. After a few moments, he pushed Roman aside and made to leave, but Roman grabbed him by the tie and pulled him back. They'd switched positions, Logan having put his pale bony arm out to stop himself from falling. Roman was still pulling his tie, smirking and looking into his eyes deviously. Virgil read Roman's lips and thought he saw "-if you're into that." Logan was clearly getting frustrated and forced his tie away, collecting his book bag from the floor and shooing Roman so that he could close his locker. Virgil saw Logan speak, and made out something like "I'll be late for class."
What a couple they made. Virgil felt something heavy growing in the pit of his stomach. Roman had left to go to his class as well, and the halls were becoming more and more empty as students filed into various classrooms. Finally the bell rang, and Virgil felt like he couldn't move to save his life. He started scratching his wrist and felt his breathing become uneven. No, not here, not now. He forced himself to breathe normally and made his way to his next class.
...
Later that day, Patton was lying on Virgil's bed, throwing a bouncy ball up and catching it in a slow rhythm. Virgil was seated at his desk right beside Patton, vaguely attempting to finish his French homework. Not like it'd be due until Monday anyway.
Patton and Virgil had been good friends from a young age, and usually hung out like this around twice a week. Every now and then they'd do something special, but usually it was just being together and talking.
Virgil knew a lot about Patton, more than most people do. He knew about his best friend's current... sticky home situation, and so he never questioned it when Patton came up to him later in the school day with a sorrowful glint in his eyes, asking if they could go back to Virgil's house that evening.
"Do you think they had a nice date yesterday?" Patton said after a minute or two of calm silence. Virgil looked over at him. He'd stopped throwing the ball, and was now inspecting its strange colorful surface, scratching at little flakes of plastic that hung off its seams. Virgil thought to himself how it was so strange that these types of bouncy balls always seemed to practically glow when exposed to light, even though they had no sparkles or shiny qualities about them.
"I guess I don't know. Roman might have ruined it with his overconfidence and ridiculous antics," Virgil finally replied, leaning back in his chair and staring at the ceiling. "Especially if he did something like take them to some 5-star family-owned Italian restaurant where you get kicked out unless you're wearing a waistcoat and you have to make a reservation a year in advance," he mused. Patton giggled a little.
"Yeah, that sounds like Mr. Prince," He offered a little quieter than he wanted to. Virgil eyed him with concern.
"You haven't really been thinking much of it, have you?" Virgil turned fully toward his bespectacled friend now, who was just staring blankly, clutching the bouncy ball to his chest. "I mean, I don't think it'll be much of a distraction to our project than Roman already is. And besides, I really doubt that Logan will go for a second round," Virgil dismissed the notion bitterly, and Patton wondered when Virgil had developed such a resentment against Roman.
"Well," Patton started, sitting up and pulling his legs into a criss-cross applesauce, "I'm surprised Logan wanted to in the first place. I don't think he has ever dated anyone, let alone someone so..."
"I know what you mean." Virgil got up to sit criss-cross applesauce with his friend on the bed. They looked at each other and giggled a little, remembering how they used to do this as little kids. They were just like brothers in a way.
Virgil noticed Patton pulling at his ring again, and knew something was up. "Hey," He said, taking Patton's hand. Patton looked up at him nervously from behind his big round glasses, his blonde curls hiding the top trims. "What's up?"
Patton made a noise that was something between a scoff and a sigh, looking away but not pulling away. "I just..." He thought for a long moment on how to begin what he wanted to say without saying what he didn't want to say... not yet, anyway. "I want Logan to be happy. He's a, good friend," A smile curled at the edges of his mouth. "I don't think Roman makes him... unhappy, per se. I think they could be really," Patton pulled his hand back and started fidgeting with his ring again, "close... but I don't know if, them being together will make Logan happy. W-will make either of them happy." He looked up at Virgil then, who was stoic. "I-I mean, i know it isn't really any of my business to worry about. I know I don't really know... anything about their date or..."
Virgil gave a somber smile. "I know what you mean. I feel it too. I mean, they don't seem to... clash correctly," Virgil meshed his fingers together as a visual metaphor. "They don't fit quite right into a relationship box together. And i don't think Roman is enamored with him in the way he says he is, or acts like he is." That bitter tone resurfaced in Virgil's voice again, and Patton took note of it.
He looked up, curls bouncing slightly. "What do you mean by that?" Virgil returned his eye contact, and Patton looked like he was hiding some emotion. Maybe... anger?
"Well..." Virgil thought about what he'd said. Specifically a certain song and a certain moment that had given him the notion that, as much as Roman acted confident, when he was truly falling for someone... he might act quite the opposite. Virgil felt his cheeks heat up, and Patton's expression changed.
"Is there something you know that i don't?" Patton pressed. Not maliciously, but curiosity dripped from his voice. Virgil brought his fingertips to his cheeks and wondered how they'd gotten so hot so quickly.
"Well, I, I just..." Virgil stuttered for a long moment. "I suppose it seems like, i don't know, like, maybe if Roman were really, um, that is to say, maybe, he would be, if he were really, you know, into someone, like that, like, um," He was talking with his hands too much, and Patton noticed his breathing becoming more like heaving. He took Virgil's frantic hands.
"Hey, take a sec," Patton's voice was coated in caramel. Virgil finally made eye contact again. "Breathe, bud," Patton said even calmer and sweeter this time. Virgil's attention suddenly switched to his breathing patterns, which he now noticed were getting rather erratic. He took a moment to reconcile himself.
"Sorry, I went off on a bit of a tangent there... but, as i was saying, or, trying to say," Virgil continued to stumble his way to his point, but with more purpose this time, "... Roman, strikes me as the type, to seem... like he wouldn't act the way he does with Logan if he were in love with him, maybe," He was fiddling with his own fingers now. "but i have a feeling that he might be... a bit of a softie. I mean, what i mean is, he... If he really likes someone I think he wouldn't be able to be his... y'know... confident, jock, witty-remark-shooting self. If that, makes any sense."
"huh," Patton said after a moment of consideration. "Well that's possible. I don't really know honestly. I haven't spent a lot of time with the guy, and whenever i do he always seems to be that same confident person. Well, except with you, sometimes."
"Huh? Me? What?" Virgil was blatantly alarmed. Patton hadn't meant to cause this alarm, so he replied gently.
"Oh, no no kiddo, i just mean like... Y'know how you two are always sorta, bickering or debating or poking fun at each other?" Virgil nodded. "Well, I've just noticed, that sometimes when you make certain comments or whatnot, he sort of... Loses himself. His persona. It kind of falls away, and he seems sort of lost for words." Virgil looked even more alarmed than before. "I-I don't mean that that's necessarily because of you, I just, it's just the only time i have seen him react in that way and... I don't know. It probably happens with him all the time when I'm not around. Or whatever. I don't know. I'm sorry." Patton spoke so quickly that Virgil hardly heard each word. He was just trying to calm himself. Was it so obvious?
"Well." Was all he could muster in reply.
"Anyhow, I think I agree, at least that something seems a little off... I hope it is anyw-" Virgil trained his eyes on Patton. "I mean- I, uh, I-I don't know where that came from! I don't hope, that- I don't hope anything bad for either of them! I didn't- I didn't think, I just-"
"You just have a crush on Logan?" Virgil was still staring at Patton, mischief peeking around the edges of his pupils.
"Wuh-- What!!!" Patton couldn't say anything else; he just grabbed the nearest pillow and shoved his face into it. Virgil heard an indignant "no I don't" from the pillow as he put his hand on his best friend's shoulder.
"Patton, buddy. It's okay." Virgil just awkwardly patted the shoulder of Patton's balled up form.
"Does everyone know!?" He looked up finally, his nose running slightly. He wasn't crying, but even so, sometimes when he got emotional or embarrassed his cheeks turned deep rosy and his nose started running. Just another little quirk about him that Virgil always kept close to his heart.
"Well, it is plain as day," Virgil started while Patton's eyes seemed so somehow grow larger, "But Logan and Roman have no clue, as far as I can tell. Logan wouldn't know you liked him unless... well, unless you asked him on a date apparently," Virgil chuckled slightly, remembering the bizarre interaction between Roman and Logan on Monday. "And Roman is always too busy bothering Logan to pay attention to what you're doing," Virgil propped his chin up on one of his hands. "But objectively, it is pretty obvious."
Patton was deflated, blonde curls doing their best to bashfully cover his eyes now. He put his face back into the pillow on his lap. Virgil heard a muffled "I'm sorry."
"What? Why are you sorry?" Virgil rubbed his back now.
"I don't know. I'm sorry to Logan mostly. And to myself." His shrunken form shook slightly. Virgil hoped he wouldn't start crying.
"Ohhhh come on," Virgil awkwardly attempted to comfort him. "No one knows, and besides, it's no big deal. You'll be alright. Most likely, nothing will happen, and you can just eventually move on with your life. And heck, maybe you'll get your chance with him."
Patton's curls shook again as he looked up, eyes the size of the moon. "You really think so????" He asked in earnest. clear snot streams ran down from his nostrils and over his lips now, and his whole face was like a tomato. Virgil laughed airily.
"...It's always possible," he said almost under his breath. He wondered if he was reassuring himself or Patton more.
They sat in silence for a short moment, Virgil shaking his slender fingers through his vibrant purple bangs. I should re-dye my hair soon. The roots are starting to show.
"Wanna get some ice cream?" Virgil asked eventually. Patton's eyes lit up.
"Yeah! Did your mom get Grasshopper Pie again??? I love that stuff so much!" They got up off Virgil's bed together to head down the hall to the stairs.
"Actually, my mom tried making some herself this time," Virgil shut his bedroom door behind them.
"Ooh, really!?!?! I'm so excited to try it then!" Patton squealed, overjoyed as a small child would be. It was as if all of his troubles had dissipated like seeds in the wind. Another thing Virgil admired about Patton.
He hoped everything would be okay.

Of the Devil’s head
Chapter four - Bloody hell!
Sander’s side fanfiction
Wordcount: 1304
Ships: still just prinxiety
TW: mentions of blood, cursing, injury, post-operations stuff talk kinda, imprisonment, a lot of panicking and distress - which kind off resembles an anxiety-attack but not really. I think I’ve got all. As always, if I missed anything, let me know, please. I don’t want to make anyone uncomfortable. :3
Summary of the whole story: They say, the one that wears the crown rules all - the living, the dead, the walking, the crawling, the rooted, the sane and the mad. They say, once you own the crown, you become the  most powerful being on Earth and beyond. Roman’s stolen bigger things - a measly little crown won’t present a problem, even if he has to steel it straight off of the devils head!
-----------------------------------------
Chapter four - Bloody hell!
Not only does time not work in Hell, but apparently physics doesn’t either. Because no matter how Virgil looked at it, there was just no way this weird figure could’ve fallen straight onto him from the place he was situated at.
He was climbing the throne from the back. Reaching from the side. So please explain to him, how the hell was he able of falling fall over and landing directly on top of the king?
Either Hell was truly that massed up, or this person was just unconventionally clumsy.
Virgil didn’t have much time to ponder on it, though. He yelped and pushed the stranger off. Which resulted in poor Roman landing on his back on the hard ground. Broken stalagmites and new once that were just growing out pushed into his back, his head hitting a particularly sharp one.
Dull ache spread through his whole body. “Aw…” he groaned weakly, reaching for his head. Carefully trying to lift himself into a sitting position, the voices around him started to come back to him.
Someone on his right was barely breathing, short fast breaths not enough to satisfy their lungs. And someone on his left was laughing their ass off.
Roman frowned at the general direction of the laugh. This was not funny.
And why was everything so hazy? His vision was fogged and blurry and his hearing muffled and muted down. And oh god, his head!
He pulled his hand away. Even this out of focus, he could make out the big red splotch that covered his palm. Well, this is just great!
He had to get out of there before these things could lock him up, but the room was starting to spin and his eyes got kind off heavy… He just wanted to lay down… just for a little bit….
“Startup immediate! Let’s fucking eat him!”
Well at least that’s what Roman made out of what the creature on his right said. And that didn’t sound like the most pleasant thing. He didn’t feel like sleeping anymore. He had to get up! He had to run!
In reality, what Virgil said was: “Shut up, you idiot! They’re fucking bleeding!”
Panic seeping all the way to his bones he rushed over to the distressed stranger. This wasn’t good! He couldn’t leave them to just bleed out!
Remi paid his master’s stressed-out state no mind. He was too preoccupied leaning over, just barely standing - laughing so hard. “And?”
Virgil couldn’t believe this! “Remington! Go get the fucking healers!”
When Virgil got distressed and needed people to listen, his voice pitched down a few octaves and doubled over. Demons called it his Monster voice.
In this particular instance, the Monster voice was nothing compared to the way he roared at the servant.
He immediately shut up and ran off to find help.
The king was left alone with a very woozy, barely conscious and scared to death Roman. “Oh shit! Don’t die on me...! Please...!”
He didn’t know what to do with his hands. Could he touch the creature? Should he touch them? What if they have a broken rib or something?
They ended up just awkwardly hovering over the wounded figure.
Meanwhile, Roman didn’t even know what was going on. His mind was too foggy to comprehend anything. He just sat there, willing himself to think the one thought he needed to think.
But what was that thought again?
Some-Something about… running?
Yeah, yeah that…
He… he wanted to run. From what...?
Nobody seemed to be nearby… So why did he want to…
Wait, what did he want again…?
Oh, right. Sleep…
Virgil’s hand-hovering came to an end the moment the med-team stepped into the hall. “Your Majesty.” the demons all bowed.
“Stop bowing and get this Human to the med-bay! Immediately!”
“Yes sir.” the main healer nodded shortly and rushed over to the thief. The rest followed.
The devil let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding and fall back against the throne. It was going to be okay now. His healers are the best in the under-world. They’ll take care of them.
He watched as they took the now unconscious figure away. Remi walked up to him, not-bothered as always. “I don’t see why we couldn’t just left it to bleed out.”
Virgil was too tired for this. His mind was going three miles per second and he just needed to calm down… He turned his cold gaze at the demon. “You’re a mind reader. Figure it out.”
That shut Remi up. No matter how much fun it would’ve been to see the Human suffer, hearing what ran through his king’s head wasn’t fun at all. He wasn’t about that. “I’ll be throwing down damned souls into the pit. If you need me, just call my name, babe. Byeeeee!!” And with a finger-wiggle wave, he left the room.
Virgil didn’t feel like getting up. The ground seemed comfortable enough for now. (There wasn’t much of a difference between it and the throne anyway.)
A Human being. A living, breathing, Human flashbang. He hasn’t seen a living specimen in… He doesn’t even know when was the last time one stood before him.
And now there was one in his med-bay. Antichrist, this was bad!
What is he even supposed to do with a creature like that? Besides torture, obviously. Sweet mother of evil!
The devil sat there, contemplating un-life until one of the healers walked into the hall.
“Your highness, the Human has been dealt with. We stopped the bleeding, and stitched up the wound best we could. It is still unconscious, though, so we locked it in one of the cells, temporarily.”
“Thank you, Lucius. Let me know when they wake up.”
“Yes, sir.” with that, the servant left. And Virgil finally climbed back on that uncomfortable throne. He pulled his phone out, and started scrolling through Tumblr once again. Things didn’t seem so boring anymore.
-
Roman came to a few hours later - not that he knew how much time had passed. What he knew though, was that he was in a dark cell guarded by two demons. Even through his hazy brain he could understand the situation he was in - he was a prisoner. ”Oh, holly mother Teresa!” he freaked, standing up and rushing over to the bars. Well, more like he stumbled...
“You have to let me out! Come on! You don’t understand! Let me out!” he gripped the cold stone bars.
One of the guards looked at him, then exchanged looks with the other. The second nodded and left, leaving Roman with a very angry looking demon.
He gulped. “Mr. Ehr, Miss- am… I… ah, please let me go…?”
The guard didn’t even glance at him.
Well, this was going well.
The second guard entered the throne hall and bowed down deep. Virgil rolled his eyes. “I’ve been telling you for thousands of years to stop bowing! It’s betting annoying.”
The demon straightened up immediately, nodding ashamed. “I apologize, your evilness.” Another eyeroll. These titles were getting better by the decade.
“What’s up, Derius?” he leaned on the arm-rests, razing his eyebrow.
“The prisoner woke up.”
Oh. Oh shit. Okay. Okay... “Are they okay?”
“It seems fine. IA bit out of it and scared, but that is to be expected. We did just imprison it in an environment completely different from his natural habitat…”
Virgil nodded, feeling his heartrate spike and slow again. They were all right.
Then an idea popped up in his head. Slowly, a grin pulled at his lips. Remi wanted fun, didn’t he?
Virgil could be fun. (Now that he knew nothing serious was happening with the Human.) Virgil could be very, very fun. He bit his lip and looked up at the guard.
“Bring me that thief.”
-----------------------------------------
Iiiiiiii can’t even believe it!
Another part, right the next day? I’m kicking this block’s ass, y’all! :D And look where we are! Remember that first anonymous comment that started all this?
But hey, I really hoped you enjoyed it. :3
If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. If I have an answer I’ll gladly share it. And if I don’t, you just helped me come up with another addition to the story ;D
I’ll be back with a new chapter as soon as possible :)
(I wasn’t kidding when I said this was becoming my new hyper-fixation XD)
Bye, for now <3

This is a fic I’ve been writing on study breaks that you have probably all already seen at this point. I’ve affectionately named it the Goblin Brain Fic because it’s helping my brain actually get motivated for studying. I’ve slightly edited it for wording and grammar, but not for content from my previous posts. Feel free to send in asks to direct it because I’m not 100% sure where this is going and you can help decide if you feel so inclined! You can see the process I went through to build this at this link.
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 My Master Post
Remy was slumped down in his seat as Emile continued to lecture him on all the possible consequences of his actions over the past 24 hours. Jeezy creezy was Emile miffed about all of that. Remy had been trying to blow it off, but Emile was fully, painfully aware that he’d almost had lost his brother today and Remy was going to hear about it until Emile’s lungs aches.
“And another thing…” he said.
“Wait,” Remy said, and Emile did because there was a lace of panic to his tone.
“What?” Emile asked.
“The tracker stopped working,” Remy answered pushing buttons a little bit desperately on his device.
“It went completely offline somehow,” Remy said.
“Did it get turned off?” Emile asked. “Or run out of batteries?”
“It doesn’t turn off and the batteries are designed to last for years,” Remy said. “It can even track through 20 feet of water. The only way it could stop sending a signal this abruptly is if the thing was destroyed.”
Emile paused. “You said Virgil knows what the blinking light means.”
“Yes.”
“Is it possible that he knows, or well, ‘knows,’ you’re dead? Barbara did send a man after him, he could have mentioned it.”
Remy stared down at the device in his hands.
He pressed a couple of buttons and studied the screen for a moment. “You little shit,” he groaned. “You threw it out the fucking car window, didn’t you?”
“How do you know?” Emile asked.
“Because if I look at the history, it was going at 65 miles per hour down the interstate, suddenly stopped cold, and then went offline probably when another car inevitably crushed it.”
“Ah.”
“Well, at least the fucker’s probably okay. Dammit Virgil! Where are you going?” Remy pushed a few more buttons almost idly as he thought. “Let me get into Virgil’s head for a minute: emo music, dark clothes, would rather have his toenails ripped out than go to parties, makes split second decisions based on little info. Yep! Got him.”
Emile rolled his eyes, but Remy wouldn’t have noticed as he had his own eyes closed. “Hmm. So, I’m Virgil. My bitch mom killed my dad and sent someone after me. I have no idea what’s going on, but I bolt out of there because fuck mom. I want to get the hell out of dodge so I convince someone to drive me somehow, I guess, but where would I want to go? Someplace safe. Where’s safe? Maybe Emile, but obviously that’s not where he went. Or Janus, but he’s too connected to mom. I don’t really know anyone else, especially not someone who could help with this sort of stuff.”
Remy thought for another long moment. “Oops.”
“Oops?” Emile asked. “What oops?”
He could tell by the expression on Remy’s face that he was not going to like the answer. “I may have let something… slip.”
“What do you mean, Remington?”
“Um, well you see,” Remy said. “A couple of months ago Virgil was being, you know, himself: a little shit. He may have, possibly, found some papers.”
“What kind of papers?” Emile asked.
“They were nothing important!” Remy assured. “There wasn’t any dangerous info in them or anything, but…”
“But?”
“It is somewhat possible that they had the name on them.”
“How possible?” Emile asked, eyes narrowed on him.
“He asked what Green Bellow Foods was and why they needed 50 top-of-the line computers outfitted at an old factory.”
“And what did you tell him?!”
“Nothing!”
Emile glared at him.
“Okay, well I had to tell him something,” Remy mumbled. “I just kind of said that I knew the owner well and was working with him on some stuff. Then I told him not to worry about it, which was probably a mistake, because he’s Virgil. So, then I found him snooping in my car. At that point I had to sit him down and talk to him. So, I told him a bit about Logan.”
“Remy that’s not nothing!”
“I didn’t use his name or anything. I just told him a couple of really, extremely, tremendously, vague stories, so he didn’t think I owed money to the mafia. Which, yes, he did suggest.”
“That’s worse!”
“What do you want from me Emile?!”
“Some common sense!” Emile answered. “I’ve been comparing you to the rat in Ratatouille for years, but I’m starting to think you’re more of a Pinky from Pinky and the Brain.”
“Hey, ouch,” Remy replied. “Also, I personally subscribe to the theory that Pinky is actually the intelligent one who is foiling Brain’s evil plots from the inside. So, there.”
“Now is not the time,” Emile said.
“Oh, it’s not the time to discuss cartoon theories?” Remy mumbled into his lap. “Must be serious.”
“It is serious! Virgil is missing!”
“Don’t you think I know that?!” Remy snapped. “I know, Emile.”
There was quiet. Emile took a breath. “Okay,” he said, calmer. “Do you really think he’s going to Logan?”
“He’s headed somewhere,” Remy answered, “and wherever that somewhere is, it’s inexplicably down the most direct route towards base.”
“Well, Virgil is smart. I don’t think he’d just keep going so quickly without a destination in mind. We should call Logan.”
“Do you honestly believe Barbara doesn’t have your phone tapped when Virgil is missing? If you had one of Logan’s phones, I might agree with you, but as it is, we’d be giving away our position, and possibly clueing her into Virgil’s plan. If he shows up at base, Logan will take him in no question. It’s less dangerous for everyone this way.”
“Fine,” Emile said. “We’ll just keep driving towards Logan and hope you’re right about where he’s going.”
“Of course, I’m right,” Remy said lightly. “I’ve got the paternal instincts going on. Course, they didn’t stop the knife throwing incident of ’09. I blame Janus for that, though.”
Emile shook his head at him.
“It is good for when he tries to steal sweets, or that one time he brought home a baby piglet and tried to hide it from me in his bedroom. Or when he’s feeling anxious about something but won’t tell me because he thinks it’s silly.” Remy’s own fingers tapped out an anxious pattern against his knee. “It also worked with the golf cart incident, but it was too late. Again, I blame Janus. He messes with the paternal instinct meter. He’s far too unpredictable and I make the mistake of thinking he’s responsible, which he is half the time, but the other half of the time I remember that he’s still mostly a kid and one that grew up in an unstable environment. Did I tell you that last month they went and won a bunch of tickets at the arcade and used them to get those 5 ticket rubber ducks and just unloaded them all over my room? Honestly, you’d think a 21-year-old would have a better use for his money or at least have the brains to go buy them at a store. He could have gotten like 500 more ducks for the same amount of money. Of course, it was his mom’s money, so I guess I can get behind wasting it on arcade games and rubber ducks. The prank was apparently based on some comedy sketch Virgil found online.”
“You’re doing the thing again,” Emile pointed out calmly.
“Stop psych evaluating me,” he shot back.
“Fine, fine,” Emile said. “Keep distracting yourself from your emotional responses with silly stories. See if I care.”
“Thank you,” Remy replied. “I will.”
Emile sighed as he started back up again mumbling something about having taken away Virgil’s Gameboy after catching him playing it at 3 o’clock in the morning. He claimed this wasn’t because the boy hadn’t gotten any sleep on a school night, but because he’d insulted Donkey Kong to Remy’s face. After that story had run its course, Remy continued to babble at an increasingly fast pace about all sorts of things. Emile imagined most of the stories he sprouted off were quite embellished.
Emile had tried to turn on the radio once, but Remy had slapped his hand away saying, “The next one’s a really good one.” So, he had resigned himself to his fate of tuning out Remy’s coping mechanism to the best of his abilities and just focusing on driving for the next 45 minutes. Which is probably why he noticed that traffic had strangely decreased. He didn’t really pay the fact that much mind until the traffic suddenly increased… in the form of a wall of stopped cars.
“Jenkies, what’s going on?” he asked, as he came to a stop at the end of the line of cars.
“Um…” Remy said looking out of his car window. There, staring into their car with beady black eyes was a cow. As Emile watched, said cow leaned forward to drag its tongue across the passenger side window. “Shit.”

Remus sat on the steps of his childhood house. Or well...mansion. Even he could recognize that this wasn't a house. It definitely wasn't a home either.
He had his head in his hands thinking about everything that happened that night that led up to this point. He really, really messed up.
It wasn't that Remus thought that nothing bad would happen when he told that rumor to his mother. In fact he was quite hopeful some shit would go down. His mother would be the best to win over with her propensity for being very gullible. Then he was hoping he could just coast along to victory after she believed him. Sadly that worked and bit too well.
Remus knew everyone was hoping Roman would finally contribute to the family. So by giving him and wife, fake or not, would alleviate the worry in the family. They wouldn't question it too much. What he didn't account for was the fact that Roman never wanted that kind of attention.
Remus was kicking himself remembering the look on his brother's face as he ran from the ballroom. He looked scared and shook up. Remus was hoping he would take it as a joke, or at least play along until Remus could dispel the rumor. But It was already too late.
He ran right out the door and into the car and away before Remus could catch him. Which leaves Remus on the front porch in the snow regretting most of this night.
Remus just thinks too fast most of the time. Never being able to stop the next thought even if the first one isn't finished yet. It's not an excuse for putting Roman on blast, but it is a reason. He just never thought though to the consequences before he opened his mouth. The fact of the matter is that he should of asked Roman before he talked to anyone.
Remus gave a heavy sigh as Remy came up from behind him.
“Listen babe, you should come back inside for a bit. I’ll drive you home once nobody is looking for us.” He said solemnly.
“Where do you think he went? There so much snow, that car is a piece of shit and hes freaking the fuck out.” Remus said back, not hearing, or not caring about, Remy's first statement.
“I’m sure he’ll be fine. Its fucking cold out here Rems. Lets go inside and talk about th-”
“NO! Remy you don't get it! Who knows what he could be doing or thinking! I never think! After all these years he's been the person this family hated the most and I certainly never helped him!” Remus stood up and started yelling at the snow falling. “I’m his twin brother and even I treat him so poorly.”
“I hear what you're saying and I raise you, you are the only one who has ever stuck by him. Yes you fucked up today Remus but he’s bound to forgive you. You have your own issues Rems. He knows you didn't mean it. Just give him a bit to calm down.”
“I know he’ll forgive me. He always does. He's the kindest person in the whole bitch ass family! But no one has ever been the same to him!” Remus groaned loudly at the sky.
Remus turned back to look at Remy, who was still standing and shivering on the porch. Remy looked over Remus and nodded his head.
“You’re right. But you and him stick together. Just let him go for a bit. We’ll find him tomorrow.” Remy pulled a set of keys out of his coat pocket. “For now I’m sure that nobody is looking for us since no one came after us. Come home with me and then we will find him. Grab his coat before we leave though.”
Remus huffed then nodded back. He walked back inside to grab both him and Romans coats from the coat rack. He doesn't feel any better from what happened. He’ll have to have a long talk with Roman to try and figure this out.
Remus walked out the front door to Remy's car.

Janus walked through the halls of his house, away from the guest rooms. He knew that there was no way that anyone could go in or out of that room without his knowledge. But that did little to alleviate his worry of having this stranger in his house.
There was so much unknown with this stanger. How could he see Janus’ house from the road? That road was miles away from his house, and it is heavily snowing. Even if he could for some reason have seen his house, there should have not been a way for him to just wander into the forest.
These woods were not the typical thick forest that one may travers as they want. Janus didn't want to say it had a mind of its own, but they may be the best way to describe it. It just...played by its own rules. He needed to go to his library and, though he didn't really want to, call a friend over. Maybe they would know more than he would about these things. ‘They probably won’t but it’s worth a shot.’ Janus thought.
Janus continued meandering his way to his home library, thinking of the possibilities of why this Roman could walk into the woods.
‘I’ve lived in this damn forest for over a century and I’ve never met someone like this.” Janus thought. ‘It should have just sent him away. Humans can't walk in here. I certainly couldn't so why him?’ As Janus continued his inner monologue he passed by his son's door. Realizing this he stopped and took a step back.
Janus realized that before he goes to his library to inevitably get lost in his thoughts and books, he should check on his two sons. The night had had a lot of excitement; it had been just short of a nightmare getting the two to sleep.
He made sure to put the stranger into the room furthest away from any of the living quarters that either his kids or himself used. That being said, his room was the closet, then Virgils, the last being Pattons.
He first peeked into little Virgil's room. The 3 year old was sleeping soundly in his crib. The poor child had the hardest time sleeping without some sort of song sung beforehand, not that Janus minded. He's pretty sure he would do just about anything for the little boy. He was just about ready to move into an actual bed, which Janus was not looking forward to. He's growing up too fast.
He still remembered when Virgil was a baby. He was so small and fragile. Janus has done many things in his life he was not proud of, but taking Virgil in will never be one of them. He will admit that taking in the infant was not what he had planned that day but he's forever glad he did.
He was a hard baby to take care of too. He was a mix of two beings that were told to never be together. And instead of punishing the parents, they went after the small child instead. Virgil was in pain most of his first months of life. His little body is a mix of things that have never been mixed. Janus was so glad he grew out of the pain, even if he still needed a little help sometimes.
Taking little Virgil from his crib turned prison, was one of the best decisions of his entire life.
Smiling softly at the sleeping child, Janus stopped his walk down memory lane. He was just so glad to have Virgil with him. Janus was determined to give this child a second chance that nobody else was willing to give him.
He silently closed the door to move to Pattons door. He cracked the door open in on the 8 year old. Luckily, he too was sound asleep.
He's had Patton longer than he's had Virgil, but he didnt take Patton in as young as Virgil. He still thinks about Patton's story and gets a bit misty eyed. Janus had been great friends with Patton's biological parents, and though Patton didn't remember them much, Janus did. They were amazing forest witches and had a love for nature. They are the most loving people. Distantly Janus thought that you'd have to be to be friends with him.
He would always rather have Patton's biological parents here, but he will never ever regret agreeing to being Patton's godparent. After Pat's parents passed, and he was left in Janus care, it was a large learning curve on how to be a parent. But now he wouldn't trade either of his sons for all the power in the world.
Patton had scared Janus so bad when he opened the door for the stranger. Yes Pat wasn't used to visitors. But he was taught from a young age to never open the door alone. Janus had always preached safety to them both for fear of what lurked around in the woods. Pat was lucky the person behind the door was actually a person. They were going to have to reiterate the rules of the front door once the morning hit.
Closing the door to his son's room he finally let out his last strained sigh. It's been a long night even though it's already 2am.
Finally catching some calm, Janus made his way just past his two sons' rooms into the fairly large library. The circular room went from the first floor all the way up to the third, and even a bit into the attic. It could be entered from any of those levels as well. Each shelf was completely filled with books.
This is the place where he spends arguably the most time. Even his sons would hang out here with him. There just so many things that can be learned here.
Speaking of learning things, he needed to find out who the hell Roman was. There was no way this guy was who he said he was if he was able to see and walk into the forest. There were many things that could be happening here. Though Janus thought there were a few that were more likely than others.
No matter what though, Janus thought that there was no way in heaven or hell that Roman was trustworthy.
Running his hands down the spines of the books and he walked around the room, Janus was looking for a specific book. After a few minutes of reading through the books with his fingertips he finally found the right book: ‘The Complete Book of Different Beings, Magic and Otherwise.’
“A-ha!” He whispered triumphantly. “This should be it!”
Taking the book to the corner of the room, Janus sat in his favorite chair. Not for the first time he's glad he doesn't need to sleep, he's gonna be here for a while. The book itself was quite large and he really didn't know where to start with Roman.
With a contented sigh Janus opened the book, and started at the beginning.

For the oneshot request, could you please do some soft logince? Maybe Logan's had a hard day and Roman comforts him with some cuddles or smth?
You got it! It’s certainly been a while since I've written Logince, but it’s a ship I've loved for a while and one I had a lot of fun writing again.

A Little Creature Comfort Never Hurt
Logan hesitated to say that he’d had a hard day. Yes, it had been rather tiring. Yes, one of his students had nearly burned the science department to the ground; it reminded him quite a bit of the shenanigans that Roman’s brother, Remus, liked to pull. It was a wonder that he was able to find any humor in the situation. But Logan hadn’t had a “hard day” per se, considering it could’ve certainly gone worse. Even more so, tonight was date night, and Logan intended to put his best foot forward despite his exhaustion.
Roman was making dinner and they were going to watch a movie together. If anything, the evening would be rather relaxing.
Logan sighed as he opened the door to their shared apartment, removing his shoes and placing his briefcase by the door. He could smell the heavy aromas of garlic and chicken coming from the kitchen, his lips upturning in a faint smile as Roman came to the doorway. He was clad in a “Kiss the Cook” apron that Logan had gotten him as a joke last Christmas, having not thought Roman would actually use it. It had been foolish not to know Roman would wear it every chance he had.
“Hello, love of mine,” Roman greeted in a sing-song-tone, walking up to him and throwing his arms around his shoulders and giving him a tight squeeze.
“Salutations, Roman. Dinner smells good.” Roman grinned, pulling Logan into a kiss that the teacher could’ve just melted into, had he allowed himself to do so. Instead he ignored the fact that he was nearly dead on his feet, pulling away and smiling at Roman.
“Thanks, nerd. Should be done in a few minutes. Could you go set the table?”
“Of course.”
Logan still found it odd sometimes, the domesticity that had fallen over his life. It wasn’t as though he hadn’t ever expected to find someone who he wanted to share a life with, he’d considered what his future might entail for years prior. It was just the fact that Roman had taken him by complete surprise. In all honesty, they hadn’t been on the best of terms for quite a while. Roman was a stage actor, a profession that Logan used to know almost nothing about; he still knew very little, but he’d tried to understand as much as he could for Roman’s sake. Logan had never quite understood the ways of the theater. Sure, he could research the great array of plays and performances as well as the rules to how to craft had been perfected as well as the technicality of everything, but that didn’t actually provide him with an understanding of why people enjoyed plays as much as they did.
He’d met Roman through a mutual friend of theirs, Patton, who Logan was fairly sure had been trying to set them up from the get-go. Logan had been sympathetic of the fact that Patton meant well as being as happy as he was in his own relationship with his husband, Virgil, would only want to encourage love in others. But when he met Roman, he was flabbergasted. How could this man be someone Patton could remotely believe to be his type?!
The first several months of being acquainted, many of their conversations devolved to full-blown arguments more times than not. Patton, sweet, sweet Patton, had tried to keep the peace between them but to no avail. It seemed they were destined to argue, and they did just that, any time they spent time with their friends or spent time alone together. Come to think of it, why were they spending time alone together? The question baffled Logan but still he found no answer. Surely, he despised Roman’s company…right?
Signs were pointing to no, considering the moment a quarrel of theirs had found a peak in tension the two of them had connected their lips in a fit of more than mere spur-of-the-moment passion. Logan, as it turned out, had feelings more than just animosity for Roman. All of those instances in which they’d been screaming their heads off at each other he’d unknowingly been becoming smitten with the brash man – and strangely enough, Roman felt the same.
Things didn’t fall into place automatically. There was a gap period where the pair weren’t exactly sure what to label their relationship, considering extensive amounts of conflict continuing between them. But as time went on more of their conflicts found resolutions, or at the very least apologetic make-ups. Roman was much more than the bold, overconfident actor who Logan had initially taken him to be. He came to recognize the kindness his boyfriend possessed that he was working to improve upon as well as how hard-working and determined he was. He was compassionate, and supportive, and far more loving than Logan had ever known.
It pushed Logan a great deal out of his comfort-zone, the affection that Roman was able to provide do freely and willingly. Logan’s relationship with his own emotions as well as human-touch in general was complicated, but being with Roman, he was able to find himself growing to embrace it.
Now here Logan found himself, nearly two years into a relationship with a man so unlike himself, but someone who brought him more joy than even he could conceive. Most of the time, he was deliriously happy in a way he’d never expected to be. He’d even attended a great deal of plays, some of which Roman performed in, some not, to show his appreciation for his partner’s craft. He still had little interest in the theater, but he had to admit that Roman was a spectacle onstage that rivaled the beauty of the constellations. He performed with such gusto, such genuineness and bravado that Logan would have to be a fool not to see the raw talent his boyfriend possessed.
So, to say the least, Logan took date night very seriously. They were both very busy individuals with their work, so some down-time spent together at home was something he cherished dearly. He wanted to express to Roman how much he loved him and adored his company. He was never as spontaneously romantic as his boyfriend was; sometimes Roman wrote him love-letters just for the hell of it, several pages long and sentimental enough to bring a tear to Logan’s eyes. But he could still do whatever possible to ensure that Roman understood that he cared.
Logan and Roman ate dinner and chatted idly about their days. Logan forwent explaining his deep-seeded exhaustion that was beginning to take a tole, determined to make the most of their time together.
It was only when they shut the lights out and Roman put on “one of Logan’s nerd science documentaries” that he liked so much did the weight of the day settle over him. He fought to keep his eyes on the screen, basking in Roman’s embrace but despite how much he willed it, he was dozing off before he knew it.
“Mmm – what?” Logan mumbled in confusion, shifting the blankets around him and realizing he was in bed without remembering how he’d come to be there, his glasses placed gingerly on the bedside table. Roman chuckled, turning their bedroom light out and sliding into bed beside him.
“You started drifting off, sleeping beauty,” Roman teased, “So I brought you to bed. I noticed that you looked tired when you came home but you should’ve said something. We could’ve rescheduled date-night and allowed you to get a few more hours of sleep.” Logan sat up, his mind still somewhat fuzzy with sleepiness.
“I apologize, dear. I’d tried to stay awake.” Roman grabbed his hand, the contact comforting and soft.
“Whatever are you sorry for, my love? You can’t help that you’re tired, you must’ve had a hard day.” Logan sighed. Was it pitiful that the feeling of Roman’s thumb brushing over his knuckles in a steady rhythm was already beginning to lure him back to his slumber?
“I suppose so. A student was messing with flammable liquids without proper instruction and a small fire started. Luckily, it was put out with little trouble, but quite exhausting nonetheless. And then I’d had a staff meeting that was as dull as ever. Did you know they’re talking about cutting this year’s trip to the Science Center? I was appalled.”
“Oh, you poor dear,” Roman cooed in a tone that had it been anyone else, Logan would’ve been positive Roman was making fun of him. Perhaps he was, if only a little, “Why didn’t you say something? I would’ve understood; you’ve put up with me in more sour moods than I’d dare to count.” Logan sighed, relaxing against his boyfriend as Roman ran a hand through his hair.
“I don’t know…I suppose I didn’t want to disappoint you. I enjoy our time together and I didn’t want to sacrifice it, even if I was a little overtired.”
“You could never be a disappointment, mí amour,” Roman drawled out flirtatiously, pressing a quick kiss to the back of Logan’s neck, “And I will always understand if you’re too tired or upset to do something. Just as you preach to me, physical health and mental health are incredibly important things that shouldn't be disregarded."
“Yes, but it’s different when I’m begging you to go to bed when it’s already past 3 am and you’ve hardly had anything to eat all day,” Logan scolded, though the feeling of Roman massaging his scalp took much of the bite out of his bark.
“Ah, but similar nonetheless.” Logan yawned, feeling Roman’s arms wrap around him as he pulled him into a cocoon of an embrace that he was positively helpless to. “Go to sleep, dearest. We can talk more in the morning. I love you with all my heart.” Logan had very little energy for a rebuttal of any kind, instead sinking further into the warmth that was Roman’s hug, closing his eyes and drifting back into slumber.
“I love you too.”

The Lost Prince ch.3
Summary: The kingdom of Elan had once been at peace. It’s said that so long as the royal family lived the land would flourish with them on the throne. But when an unexpected enemy appeared and took the lives of the royal family many stopped believing in the legend. It was simply a ploy by a former ruler to discourage a coup. But some say that the new king sparred the young prince out of fear of the myth, and that one day the true heir would once again take the throne.

CHAPTER 3
CHAPTER SUMMARY: They have a plan... it may have been a bad plan.
WARNINGS: imprisonment, forcing someone to perform demeaning acts, injury of a main character, blood, let me know if there’s anything else
As the sun began to set Virgil and Janus huddled together away from the door. As much as they appreciated the open door earlier, while looking at the flora and fauna, it was now letting in the cool evening breeze. Neither dared speak aloud outside of the safety of their room which only made ignoring their growling stomachs harder.
They hadn’t eaten since the night before and they couldn’t exactly bring along the small food stash they kept for emergencies. Virgil was actually starting to miss the stale bread when a pair of robins suddenly flew through the door.
The birds each held a small branch covered in berries as they landed in front of him and Janus. Virgil slowly held his hand out and one of the robins hopped towards him to drop the berries in his palm. Janus did the same with the other bird. The two young men nodded in thanks before the two robins flew away again.
“Didn’t know they did that.” Janus murmured before eating one of the berries.
“Unless one of them could get us the keys I don’t think we’ve needed them to anyway.”
The berries hadn’t been near enough to fill the two up, but it did help to quiet their stomachs. It took some time but eventually the two were able to doze off.
-
King Saul flipped though the pages of the old book while he waited for the servant to get there and translate. He couldn’t read whatever language it was written in, but the illustrations provided some clues. Most of it seemed to have something to do with the royal family and fae.
“Your Majesty, the servant is here to translate.” He heard someone call from outside his tent.
“Send him in then.”
A few moments later the servant walked through the door. “Your Majesty,” he bowed.
”Here,” King Saul said as he passed over the book, “now tell me what I need to know.”
“Of course, your Majesty.”
The servant flipped to the right page and began to translate, “If a time may come when their majesties are unable to have a child of their own volition or-“
“I don’t care for those parts. Just tell me the steps and what we need.”
“Yes, Sir.” The servant said before starting again, “The current head of the family and intended heir must share blood... Any amount will do... They then must join hands at sunset... The family head must willingly pass the bond... And both must say the spell.” He summarized.
“So we prick fingers, hold hands, and say a spell. Sounds easy enough.” King Saul mused, “And the spell?”
“I believe it’s “pactum sanguis densior sit quam ex utero sumus participes per familia necessitudines ita et in terra” your Majesty.”
“If that’s all then you may leave.” King Saul told him as he took the book back.
The servant bowed once more before exiting the kings tent. King Saul managed to locate the words of the spell and proceeded to write them down.
-
‘Perhaps,’ He thought to himself, ‘if the false king were not so self centered he might have realized the differences between me and the man who had originally delivered the book.’
...
By the time the sun rose on the second day, Virgil and Janus were wide awake. When the soldiers not standing guard had started waking up it was hard to ignore. Especially when they started to cook breakfast.
“Bastards...” Janus mumbled, earning a small smile from Virgil, “They could’ve at least done it down wind.”
“Some people aren’t very considerate I’m afraid.” A voice told them.
Both young men jumped and instinctively tried to move away from whoever had spoken.
“Oops, didn’t mean to startle you.” A somewhat willowy man in servants clothing told them.
Janus and Virgil shared a cautious glance at each other as the man reached into the satchel at his side before revealing a small loaf of bread. “Here,” He said as he held it out to them, “you’re probably feeling half starved by now.”
The two shared another look before Janus slowly reached forward to take the bread, “Thank you.”
“No need to thank me,” He told them before whispering, “your Majesty.” He winked.
“... Who are you?” Janus asked cautiously.
“You can call me Emile.” He smiled, “And you two have more people on your side than you think.”
”What?” Virgil asked.
Emile’s only response was a finger to his lips and a wink before turning and walking away.
“Well,” Janus started, “that was...”
“Weird.” Virgil finished, “That was definitely weird, right?”
Janus nodded, “Probably.”
The two of them were wary of the bread at first, but whatever fears they may have had were gone after the first bite. They silently decided the taste was because they hadn’t had fresh bread in years. But neither could remember even the freshest bread tasting so sweet.
Neither mentioned it but both felt full and surprisingly invigorated despite the small amount of food.
...
Within a few hours the camp was packed up, the wagon door was closed, and the group was on the move once again.
The weather wasn’t unpleasant and they even seemed to be making good time. That is until a loud thudding sound broke the silence.
Virgil and Janus had let themselves relax as their minds wandered with the shifting of the wagon. It wasn’t until they were suddenly flung into one corner that they realized something had happened.
“Ah what the fuck?” Virgil hissed.
“Sorry,” Janus told him as he attempted to pull himself away, “You alright?”
“Yeah, you?”
“I’m fine. My landing was a bit softer than yours.”
“Oh ha ha.” Virgil deadpanned.
“What’s going on?!” Saul boomed from somewhere ahead of the wagon, “Why are we stopped?!”
“My apologies, your Majesty, but a wheel has fallen off of the prisoners wagon. It doesn’t appear to be damaged, but we’ll have to stop for a while to fix it.” Someone standing nearby said.
“Well hurry up then!”
Janus and Virgil barely managed to get themselves upright by the time the door was opened. “Don’t get any ideas.” The soldier said as he unlocked the metal door.
“Come on we don’t have all day.” He grumbled when the two hesitated.
They shared a somewhat baffled look before Virgil moved to leave the wagon. His feet had barely touched the ground before he was grabbed by the collar and flung to the side, “Hurry up.” The man spat.
“Virgil!” Janus called when his friend hit the ground.
“I’m good.” He told him as he moved to stand up again. He was halfway up when a different soldier appeared next to him and pulled him to his feet. “The ground isn’t nearly as hard as the floor.” Virgil said when Janus joined him. Janus gave a sad smile in agreement.
While several people worked to put the wheel back, Virgil and Janus took the opportunity to soak in the feeling of the ground beneath their feet. It was so soft! And squishy! Even their bed mat was nothing compared to how comfortable the ground felt.
The soldiers were nearly done when the King road over to them on a large grey stallion. “How much longer?” He asked them.
“Almost done, your Majesty. It should be ready in just a minute.” One of them answered.
Saul nodded before turning his attention to Janus and Virgil.
Janus hated the way he looked at them. Normally it was somewhere between happy that he had taken over the kingdom and pissed that he and Virgil still existed. But now there was a bit of greed there too. By some miracle it managed to make Janus hate him more.
Virgil wished he could wipe that smug look off of Saul’s face. Preferably with a chair. But unfortunately he was not that brave and not that stupid. Also he was severely lacking in the chair department at the moment.
“The wagon is fixed, your Majesty. We are ready to continue when you are.” One of the soldiers informed.
“Good. Throw these two back in and let’s move on.” The king ordered as he turned his horse.
“Wait!” Janus said before Saul could leave.
The King paused to look at him but didn’t respond.
“Please, before we go any farther let Virgil go.”
Saul smirked, “Why would I do that?”
“Please,” Janus begged, “you don’t need him. Let him go, and let him live. I promise I will transfer the magic.”
“Why should I believe that? Besides, that scullery rat is good collateral. Why would I risk letting him go while he’s still useful?”
“I swear I will do whatever you ask. Just let him go free. Please.”
Virgil was sure Saul wasn’t actually considering letting him go. There was nothing to gain after all. He just wanted to toy with Janus. As soon as he started getting bored he’d laugh in their faces and they’d be back in the damn wagon.
Honestly he wasn’t sure whether or not to be relieved by that. On one hand he couldn’t escape, but that meant he wouldn’t have to leave Janus.
Virgil was startled out of his thoughts when Saul dismounted and walked over to them.
“Prove it.”
Janus blinked. What?
“Kneel.” Saul told him.
Janus spared a glance at Virgil who shook his head.
Despite his friends opposition Janus took a breath and dropped to one knee before bowing his head. “Please, your Majesty.” He tried again, “Let him go.”
The King’s lips curled into a cruel grin, “Kiss my boot.” He told him.
“Janus no!”
“Silence!” Saul commanded.
“Janus, don’t. Please.” Virgil begged him.
Janus closed his eyes. He hated him. God he hated Saul. He could live forever and never hate anyone more. But his love for Virgil was worth more than that hate. And his life was worth more than Janus’s own pride.
“Please, your Majesty,” he forced as he shifted to both knees.
“Janus...”
“Let my friend go free.”
Virgil couldn’t bring himself to watch. He closed his eyes and turned his head away. But that didn’t prevent the hushed laughter of the soldiers from reaching his ears.
“Someone grab a rope.” Saul ordered, “I believe we may be able to work something out.”
Virgil tried to ignore everyone and everything around him as he opened his eyes. He kneeled next to Janus and tentatively reached to grab his arm. Janus didn’t look at him.
“You shouldn’t have done that. We would’ve been ok.” Virgil choked before pulling him closer in a poor excuse for a hug.
“Just make it.” Janus told him as he attempted to hug back, “Go find that useless knight of ours and don’t look back. Please, Virgil.”
Virgil clung to him tighter, “I can’t just leave you like that.”
“You can and you will.” Janus told him, “Promise me, Virge.”
He wanted to promise. He did. But he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He couldn’t make that promise. He would stick to his plan and follow them. He couldn’t leave Janus behind. Not after everything.
“Please.” Janus begged.
But before Virgil even had a chance to reconsider he was pulled back by his hair. He attempted to cling to Janus, but was ripped away as if he hadn’t been holding on at all.
“Remove his chains and then tie him to a tree.” Saul ordered.
“What? No! Let him go! Please!” Janus yelled, “I did as you asked!”
“You did,” he agreed, “and I’m releasing him. Perhaps we can come back to check on him once we complete our little errand at the Delego.”
Janus watched as Virgil attempted to fight back against the soldiers trying to tie him up. All of a sudden he was eight-years old again. Being held too tightly by a man twice his size while his best friend fought tooth and nail just for the infinitesimal chance of escape. And once again he was too scared and too useless to do anything but cry and scream at the bad people to let him go.
The second the chains were off Virgil started swinging. He couldn’t let them tie him up. He wouldn’t stand a chance of helping Janus if that happened. He thrashed against the hands and ropes trying to get some sort of opening. He could vaguely hear Janus screaming something as the soldiers continued to close in on him with the rope.
Virgil sensed more than felt himself fall to the ground. He had to fight harder! They were gonna win and then they would take Janus away and he would never see him again.
He couldn’t move his arms anymore. His legs flailed harder, trying in vain to somehow prevent the inevitable. His legs were stuck now. Something was behind him- Wait something is by his face. He hears what sounds like a scream and his mouth fills with blood.
“Motherfucker!” The soldier who had attempted to gag him yelled when Virgil sunk his teeth into their hand. They quickly pulled their hand back and turned it into a fist.
“NO!” Janus screeched when Virgil’s head lolled to the side, “Virgil!”
“Little bastard.” The soldier spit on him as they clutched their injured hand.
“Remember your promise,” Saul said as Janus was pulled to his feet, “and then maybe we can come back and untie him.”
“You lying son of a bitch.” Janus spat.
He felt a blinding pain as the back of Saul’s hand landed against his face.
“We’ve wasted enough time.” Saul announced, “Let’s get moving.”
“Virgil!” Janus yelled as he was dragged back towards the wagon, “I’ll come back for you! I promise!”
The door was slammed shut and the wagon began to move.

Good news: Virgil is no longer in immediate danger. Bad news: He’s unconscious and tied to a tree... Also Janus is still in immediate danger.
Y’all. I SWEAR there is going to be happier chapters. But we gotta get some of the bad stuff out of the way first. Next chapter might have some nice stuff but yeah. Don’t hold your breath for fluff.

Part 4 of my response to @gumnut-logic‘s SensorySunday: Taste challenge. Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
Answering reader’s questions?  Only halfway through a fic?  More likely than you think.
Sleep didn’t come easily for John.  It never had done, not even before last weekend, but now he couldn’t sleep at all until he knew all his brothers were safe in their rooms.  That indicator was Scott; until Scott came into their room and settled down in bed, John could be sure that at least one brother was still up.  As Scott would never go to bed until Virgil and Gordon were settled in the room next door, and Alan was asleep in his own bed, dragged in to their room almost as soon as they’d got home, his eventual stumble into bed was the sign John needed that the others were all as okay as they could be right now.
Even the stars had abandoned him.  Sat in the window, a favourite seat of his, with a neglected book in his lap, there were no pinpricks of light shining through the darkness.  Clouds had stayed gathered ever since the avalanche, blocking out both the sun and the stars.  Somewhere beyond them was Dad, on a mission to the moon.  John wondered if he knew, yet.  Grandma had said she’d contact the space agency, but communications from Earth to the moon were difficult.  It had always been a sore point between the older boys and their father – off again for months, two year old Alan barely knew who his Daddy was – but now it was a gaping wound.  John had always been fascinated by space, but he swore he wouldn’t go until he knew he could keep in contact with his family.  Always.
Equally as difficult as getting a message to the moon, apparently, was trying to travel when so snowed under even the cars couldn’t move, and planes refused to fly.  There was no snow here, and if John never saw a snowflake again it would be too soon, but Grandma’s state was snowed in.  Grandma was adamant that she’d find her way to them soon, and John knew she was doing everything she could to move in with them, but it felt as though the world itself was conspiring against them.  Every day that passed, Scott lived in greater and greater fear of uninvited visitors arriving on their doorstep.  John refused to admit it to anyone except himself, but he did, too.
Alan snuffled in the corner, clutching his newly inherited but tatty and old teddy bear close in sleep. The two year old didn’t understand what was going on, and John and Scott were both painfully aware that he was the most likely to bring the uninvited guests to their door with an innocent comment. From the conversation he’d heard when they’d got home, something Alan had said on the way home from playgroup had been too close for Scott’s comfort today.
Scott hadn’t been himself, either.  None of them were themselves, Gordon retreating into himself, Virgil pretending everything was fine but flinching at every reminder of Mom with tears in his eyes.  John wasn’t even sure what had happened to him; he could barely remember what life had been like before the avalanche now. Life and responsibility had ganged up on him and Scott all at once and now any free time he might have had was taken up with cooking and cleaning while Scott handled their younger brothers. But John didn’t think all that – Mom’s death, new responsibilities, three brothers in need of assurance and a sense of normality where there was none to be had – was the all that was preying on Scott’s mind.  Not after Alan’s loud complaints about Scott being stinky and Scott’s perfectly reasonable explanation.  Perfectly reasonable, except for one thing.
Scott didn’t have gym on Wednesdays.  John knew his brother’s timetable, even if Scott didn’t know that.  No gym on Wednesdays, just after-school basketball he’d quit at the start of the week.
Whatever had driven him to empty an entire can of deodorant over himself, it wasn’t gym, and John highly doubted it was an accident, either.  But he knew Scott wouldn’t talk to him about it, even though his eyes had been red when he’d come out of his too-long shower and he’d caught the smallest glimpse of something dark on his arm when his sleeve had ridden up during dinner.  Alan had jumped at him from his chair after they’d eaten, as per usual, and normally Scott could catch him with ease.  This time, there’d been the flicker of pain as Alan had collided with him, before he’d covered it up with some light-hearted scolding for being reckless.
John didn’t like the theory forming in his mind, and knew that tonight he wouldn’t sleep until he put it to rest, one way or the other.
It was midnight by the time Scott stumbled into the room, assuring him that Virgil and Gordon were both asleep and put that book away and go to bed now, John.  John hadn’t turned a page all evening, but dutifully obeyed, placing the bookmark back in the same place he’d retrieved it from hours earlier and setting the book on the bedside table before sliding underneath his covers and closing his eyes.
Waiting.
He heard Scott pad over lightly to check on Alan, making sure he really was asleep, before his big brother finally shuffled into bed himself, turning the lights off.  He’d shared a room with Scott for years, knew how his breathing shifted as he fell asleep.  The shift happened, and he counted the minutes in his head.  Five of them, and then he couldn’t wait any more, the burning need to know slipping him out of bed, palming his under-the-covers reading light (a present from Scott, two years ago, after he’d got fed up of John insisting on having a light on to read when he just wanted to sleep; Mom had laughed and told him he still wasn’t allowed to read all night) from under his pillow and slipping across the room to Scott’s bed.
Scott was a light sleeper, and John shouldn’t be doing this, but he needed to know.  The comforter folded back easily, and holding his breath John reached for the hem of his brother’s top, lifting it up just enough to see his fears realised.
Mottled bruising splattered across his torso, deeper and darker in some places than others.  It was painfully familiar – John had had the same, last year, until Scott found him out in a similar way and dragged names out of a tearful eleven year old in the middle of the night.  They’d both been in the same school then; Scott had made it perfectly clear the next day that anyone who so much as touched a hair on any of his brothers’ heads would be dealing with him and his friends, who would be delighted to return it with interest.
John didn’t have bruises any more, but now Scott had moved up into the world of high school and there was no big brother to make fearless challenges on his behalf.
A hand caught his wrist.
“Go back to bed,” Scott said flatly, tugging at his arm lightly until he let go.  The fabric fluttered back down, hiding the incriminating evidence again.
“Why didn’t you tell anyone?” John asked instead, keeping his voice down.  The last thing they needed was for any of their brothers to wake, especially Alan.
Scott scoffed, but John’s reading light caught pain in his eyes.
“Tell who?” he demanded, sitting up and wincing as he did so.  John didn’t think it was a good thing that Scott hadn’t even attempted denial first. Scott always denied it when things were wrong and he wasn’t okay.  Then again, none of them were okay.  None of them would be okay for a long time.  “A teacher? They’d just try to call Mom, and when they don’t get through they’ll be breaking down the goddamn door.  Grandma?  She can’t get here any damn faster.  Dad? He’s not even on the fucking planet!”
“Shhh!” John hissed as his voice get louder.  A sleepy snuffle came from the corner of the room, and they both froze.  It was several long minutes of silence before they relaxed, assured that Alan hadn’t woken up after all.  “Why didn’t you tell me?”
He knew why.  It was the same reason he wouldn’t tell a teacher, wouldn’t risk any adults realising that there was a family of five children living without a single guardian in the state.  Scott had been trying to protect him, projecting an air of invulnerable big brother so John would relax and forget the very real fear social services might catch a whiff of abandoned children.
Scott wouldn’t admit that, of course.
“What could you do about it?” he demanded instead, remembering this time to keep his voice down. “We don’t even go to the same school, and even if we did, we can’t draw attention to ourselves!”
“I can handle Alan so he’s not kicking you in your already busted ribs whenever you pick him up,” John retorted. “I can cover for you while you get pain killers.  Just because I can’t help you outside doesn’t mean I can’t help you at home, Scott.”
“I can’t ask that of you,” Scott protested, and John rolled his eyes.
“I’m offering,” he pointed out.  “You have taken some pain killers, right?”
“How do you think I got all of two seconds sleep before a pesky little brother stripped my bedclothes?” Scott grouched.  “Yes, I took some tylenol when I was in the shower.”
“Cold compress?” John asked, and Scott rolled his eyes.
“Right little rescue scout you are, huh,” he grumbled.  He knew as well as John they’d had a first aid session only two meetings ago.  It felt like two lifetimes ago.  “Shower.”  John reached for his top again, only to get batted away.  “It’s fine, John.  Stop fussing and go back to bed.”
John scowled at him.
“We talk about this now, or we talk about this at breakfast with Virgil, Gordon and Alan listening in,” he promised.  From the flash of anger in blue eyes, it was only the fact that Alan was sleeping in the same room that restrained Scott from exploding at him.
“What’s there to talk about?” he ground out instead.
“Who.”  John stated.  “How long. Why now.”  The glare he got promised retribution later, but less than a week ago John had watched a wall of snow crush a skiing hut with his mother inside. Maybe Scott’s glares would be scary again one day, but their ski trip from hell was still too raw.
“You don’t know them,” Scott muttered after a moment, and John knew he wouldn’t have caved if he wasn’t also raw from the loss of their Mom, and the responsibility crushing his shoulders.  “I thought they were my friends, until yesterday.  Apparently they only liked me because the team kept winning whenever I played.”
“They’re beating you up because you quit the team?”  John wished he was surprised, but while sport had never been his thing, enough of his schoolmates were sport-mad that he could see them doing exactly that. Scott didn’t answer, but his eyes gleamed with tears in the faint light.
It made John angry. Who measured friendship by how successful someone was at a sport?  Who dropped their friend right when they were needed most?  Even if they didn’t know what was wrong, surely a friend would accept a change in hobbies?
He might not know them, but these unknown so-called friends of Scott were going to go down. How dare they make his brother cry?
The tears Scott turned his head away to hide could have just been grief about their Mom, but given the context of their conversation, John knew better.  It was also the sting of betrayal, and he wasn’t going to stand for it.
“Scott,” he said, muscling his way onto his brother’s bed and tugging gently but determinedly on his wrist until he caved and lay down.  “As soon as Grandma’s here, you have to tell her.”
Stony silence greeted him, and he pulled the comforter over the pair of them, nudging insistently at Scott until he had enough room to be comfortable.  “If you don’t, I will.”
“Don’t you dare,” Scott lashed back, rolling on his side to face away from John.  “Get out of my bed.”
“You didn’t let me suffer in silence,” John reminded him, staying where he was.  He wasn’t as clingy as his brothers, but right now he didn’t want his own bed.  “You’re right, even when we do have a guardian here, I can’t stand in front of you and threaten everyone that wants to hurt you.  But that doesn’t mean I’m going to stand by and let it happen.  Grandma will do something.”
“Grandma has the four of you to worry about,” Scott mumbled, and John rolled his eyes.  Whoever said older was wiser had clearly never met his older brother.
“Grandma has five grandsons and she’ll worry about us all,” he reminded him.  “She’ll find out somehow, even if we don’t say anything. You know she will, and then she’ll be sad you didn’t tell her straight away.”
Scott groaned in defeat, then rolled back over with another, pained, groan.  How long did Tylenol last?
“I know,” he muttered, wiping at his eyes with his sleeves.  “I know.”
John shuffled a little closer, pressing their shoulders together.  Once they got bigger – Scott was already hitting a growth spurt – they wouldn’t be able to fit easily on the same bed, but for now, they both fit well enough side-by-side.  After a moment, Scott’s head rested against his on the pillow, and fingers tangled with his own where their arms were pressed together.
“We’ll survive,” Scott muttered, squeezing lightly.  John nodded, and squeezed back.  “Grandma will be here soon.”
It was both a promise and a plea.

hey dee. what if you gave us information on drow that we could give logan? we could indirectly warn him about things like virgil's light-blindness, or things like what ear positions and eye colors mean what. plus, we whispers really like learning about y'alls cultures and traits. :3. -evil whisper, being less evil than usual.
Dee: I suppose, but I do not see why this is necessary. Let's see...
Dee: Well, you already know about the eyes and ears. There are various other things intrinsic to Drow culture that Virgil has attempted to grow past in these years since he left, but it's hard to shake the ideals and customs you were raised with, so they still hold a lot of sway over him:
Dee: Firstly, Virgil has trouble talking about issues. If he is upset or feels threatened, he is either going to run or attack. Fight and flight are his only two options when it comes to conflict resolution: you could try and reason with him, but he will give you a rough time.
Dee: A very, very potent one is his trust issues. There is no word for "friend/friendship," or "love," or even "thank you" in the drow language, because of a deep-rooted and encouraged idea that friendships are not a real thing. They are taught from birth to betray each other to make their way to the top, and alliances were only formed when the ally was susceptible to blackmail, considered weak enough to not be a serious threat, or when cooperation was forced by the existence of a common enemy. Alliances were never expected to last, and always ended in violent treachery -- to call someone your friend is to tell them "I will help you with this current task, and when it is done, I will kill you before you kill me." Despite how much he cared for us, even after all of those years, Virgil had a tough time shaking this belief. Remus and I did our best to convince him that we would never want to betray him, and the real world didn't work that way, but that night in the cave only cemented the idea in his head... His current friendship with Patton has a lot to do with the fact that he does not believe Patton could possibly be a threat, for that matter.
Dee: Drow tend to be fonder of children than other Elven races, in their own weird way. It has a lot to do with the earlier described comfort around those who are weaker than you. This is usually a sort of "oh, this tiny, unthreatening person is easy to manipulate and control" thing, but for Virgil, it became just a genuine fondness and protectiveness. Most Elven species, since the inhabitants are immortal, do not contain many children, and a child will be born to the tribe maybe once every hundered or thousand years. Each Drow, on the other hand, will typically have ten or more children per century, and the constant warfare with other species of the underdark -- and, even more so, the constant backstabbing and in-fighting -- keeps their numbers low regardless. This is often misrepresented to surface races, so drow are stereotyped as debaucherous perverts. Watching douchebags walk up to Virgil and try and hit on him with this stereotype in mind, and then get thoroughly insulted and rejected, was always hilarious~
Dee: Let's see, what other things do drow do differently... They see any display of emotion as a lethal sign of weakness, they see smiles as predatory and threatening... Due to a few of their deities, Red hair is a sign that the attached person is a malicious murderer, and Silver hair is a sing that the attached person is totally incompetent -- Unfortunately for Roman and Logan... That is all I can remember for now. Remus would know more than me, I only know what I learned from him and Virgil.

Chapter Summary: A witch in the woods with her head held high, a host of fae are wondering why.
Word count: 2530
Pairings: future lamp, platonic anxceit
~|~
There are reasons for the things the queen did, and then there are excuses. Her reason is simple. For years, she wished to create a proper heir to the throne. Gods only knew, she was never going to let herself be succeeded by Virgil of all people. He was uncontrollable, wild, dirty magic, and what was worse, he didn’t even know. She needed someone who would listen to her, someone who would allow her reign to flourish and bring true magic back to the land. She didn’t need Virgil, she needed a child of her own, two. Her excuse for two, just in case the first one didn’t have her magic. Excuses always have consequences.
She tried and tried, but with no success, she made a choice that would change the course of the kingdom’s future forever. She sought out the fae queen.
~|~
Valerie was used to the calls of humans. When it was cold, she sang life into their crops, and when it was warm, she touched the ground with ice so they might escape the sun, skate, and play. Back before the witch took her seat on the throne, fae were welcomed into the human kingdoms with open arms.
These days, the humans have all but ceased to call her. As much as she avoids the border for fear of knights, humans avoid the border for fear of fae. It makes her stomach turn, but she doesn’t even have to put up guard around to dissuade them from entering the Evergreen anymore.
Regardless of the fact, she does put up a patrol around the northern border, and there’s no one more surprised than her when they summon for her one autumn night.
She gets her steed and sets off in the direction of the call. Three of her guards form a circle at the edge of the wood. “What’s happened?”
“The witch has entered the Evergreen. Lauren is missing from her post, she didn’t answer when we raised the alarm,” Toby responds coolly. “Kai’s gonna pitch a fit if he finds out. Finding her is top priority.”
There aren’t many places Adelaide knows about, luckily for them. If Valerie remembers correctly, Dee only ever told her about the court. He never mentioned telling her about his home, but that doesn’t mean Adelaide won’t stumble across some other poor unsuspecting fae before she reached her destination. “Get to the Lapointe estate in case she goes after Dee, I’ll catch up to her if she goes to the court.”
Yanking on the reins, she does a full turn to go back to the court. Dee wouldn’t have told her a direct path, just a general location supported by the fact that they hadn’t crossed paths as Valerie rode to meet her guards. That means she has time. Urging her horse just a tad faster, she hopes she gets there before her.
~|~
“It’s a nice place you’ve got here,” Adelaide circles the throne room lazily, her plate mail clinking as she walks. Her steed stands by the entrance, large and imposing as Valerie pulls up to the edge of the room. The pearlescent marble under the witch’s bare feet glimmers in the moonlight. “If I were you, I’d never leave.”
Valerie dismounts her horse. “I like to know the people I’m ruling,” her mouth twists into a grimace. “They trust me because they know me.”
The witch doesn’t miss the slight, allows it with a tilt of her head and a slight smile. “I’ve come to seek a treaty-”
“Then you may leave,” She responds sharply, imitating Adelaide’s smile.
Adelaide shakes her head, loose red hair spilling around her neck, taking a seat on her throne, making her bristle, “Come now, don’t be rude. If you don’t want peace, I have plenty of your fae in my kingdom who wish to return to the Evergreen, and it would be a shame if they never made it back.”
“If you wanted peace, you would’ve sent your husband,” Valerie doesn’t quite snap, controlling her tone, “And you wouldn’t have touched Lauren.”
“Oh, was she important? Don’t worry, she’s still in the forest. If she’s a real knight, she’ll find her way back. You should really train them better if you think a little displacement spell will kill them, Mab,” The witch leans back, completely relaxed. “The treaty will return her, and all your people, if you so wish to make a deal.”
“My people?” Valerie echoes hollowly. “Do better than that.”
“The fae in the castle will all be back, as per your wishes, but I need a deal first.” Her teeth shine, light catching on a fang, as she smiles, “Who knows what would happen if they tried to pass through the iron wall on their own, no?”
She’s been staking out the knight’s exit for a very long time, enough time that it might’ve caught her attention. “What have you done?”
“Nothing,” Her nails glint as she studies them, the disrespect, taking her eyes off Valerie, “Not yet, anyways.”
Valerie’s lip curls in disgust. “What do you seek, mortal?”
“Finally!” She drops her arms to the armrests and pushes herself up, “Two children for the safety of your people on their return to you.”
“No, ‘my people’ is a term that only includes winter fae, and ‘on their return’ is not true safety, be more specific,” If the queen of the human kingdom wished to play it like that, she would have to try harder.
“Okay, fine, give me a moment,” The queen ponders, her finger tapping innocently on her chin like she has never done anything wrong in her life. Valerie can’t stop imagining the blood from Dee’s throat coating her fingers. Adelaide is not human and she is not fae. Revenge is not something Valerie could execute without risk, but Adelaide has to pay. Her eyes narrow. “I would like to give birth to two children and in exchange for helping me, I will return all the fae that lived in this forest alive and unharmed.”
“And I shall grant you this on one condition,” Valerie begins to craft the magic. If she does this right, the Evergreen would get an heir despite her wish to remain without a romantic partner. If she didn’t, Imagi would end up with two heirs. “If you go back on your word, your firstborn child shall be mine.”
The queen’s face sets in determination. “I agree to the terms. In fact, as a gesture of goodwill,” she waves a hand, and Lauren collapses on the floor from thin air, gasping for breath as her feet scrape the ground, running behind Val.
“Very well,” Valerie runs a gentle hand over Lauren, taking the remaining magic that clings to her skin. “Now, get out of my forest. You never asked for protection while you were here, and to have the children, you must first get out alive. I suggest,” She hands the queen a leaf coated in her magic, which glows in the witch’s hand, “you start running.”
~|~
Adelaide’s screams echo throughout the castle halls, and Terrence has never had a bigger headache, the pressure of old magic pushing down on the space in his skull behind his eyes. Tonight is the night that the twins would be born and if the awful sounds echoing down the hallways could be trusted, the twins are most definitely being born.
With the climate in the castle, he knows that as a fae, he has a greater duty to the rebellion tonight than he did to Adelaide. Any loyalty he had to offer her ended the moment she put up the wall.
A deal, she’d said, that she made with Valerie to have a child and in return she wouldn’t harm any fae that swore loyalty to her.
Bullshit.
His messages couldn’t reach Valerie if he sent them. Adelaide made sure of it when she closed the walls and leashed their magic. Any words spoken ill of her were bound to get back to her, so instead, he said nothing at all, waiting patiently for his time to come.
Tonight, there would be an opportunity. Terrence knows as well as any fae does of the little one of their kind growing in the queen. If the deal was what he thinks it is, the magic of the Evergreen will make it such that the child is returned, and with it, the balance of deals made in the forest fulfilled.
With the wolf star directly overhead, he lets the magic guide him through the halls, unseen. He watches as Adelaide denies the babe any touch, any comfort as he enters the world as his screams pierce the night. In a daze, he follows a maid to the nursery, picking up the baby, far too light and far too small for who Terrence knows he will be.
The child is unnamed, unmoored to the land. His pointy ears wiggle as he yawns. Even now, Terrence coos at the sight of little tips of white fangs peeking out from his gums. The magic coming from the child is neon, not quite of the Evergreen, but not anything he’s seen from any magic user either.
This is him, Valerie’s child. No power in the world, let alone a wall, could have stopped them from riding out into the night.
~|~
Lauren is stationed at the base of the throne room when Terrence rides in.
“We need an audience with the queen,” Terrence clutches the bundle to his chest as tight as he can. “Please tell her it’s urgent.”
The tiny fae is starting to squirm in his blankets as she books it up the stairs and no matter how cute the babe is, Terrence is entirely ill equipped to handle it. The child has barely been in the world a full day, but he still has no name, no prospects. By blood he is royal, but the way Adelaide practically scrambled away from him denied him a place in that castle.
The queen descends the spiraling stairs behind her throne, the cool ice-like structure making her look twice as alluring as usual, and Terrence, like most who ever receive the honor of being in her presence, is enchanted.
“Who in the gods’ names is calling me down so late? Is it really important?” She yawns and stretches, her sleek light blue robe falling in waves around her. “I really don’t see the point in-”
With a fond smile on his face, he can identify the exact moment she sees him.
“Terrence!” She runs down the steps at full tilt towards him, and he swings the baby closer and hunches in to protect him as her arms come down across his shoulders. “Terrence, you’re okay,” She pulls back and her hands stay on his shoulders as she kisses both his cheeks then leans back to get a better look at him, “You are okay, right? I swear, if that witch laid a finger on you, I’ll have her skull as an ornament.” Her eyes land on the baby. “Oh, darling, you never said anything about a child.”
She sweeps up the child, thoroughly distracted with his clear green eyes. “I’m fine,” He starts, amused with the way she dances away with the baby. “He isn’t mine, you know?” She hums as she dances away and the child giggles. “He’s yours.”
Valerie stops dead in the middle of the throne room, her eyes never leaving the babe’s, the echo of her footsteps fading into silence. “Excuse me?” Her voice is untethered, the same way the babe’s magic feels, white just like the frost that forms at her fingertips in shock.
“He isn’t named yet, Adelaide didn’t bother. She gave birth to him last night.” He hands her the certificate detailing the time of his birth, “Right under the wolf star. He’s her first born.”
She holds him just a touch closer, nudging his nose with her own, to the child’s delight. “I did say he would be mine, didn’t I?” Her voice has softened the same way it did when she took the crown all those years ago.
Staring at the child, Val reaches her free hand towards him, and he takes it because he has to and he has missed her more than she would ever know.
“You’ve come back to me,” Her hand squeezes tight around his hand, “And you are safe,” Her voice breaks on a cry as the child begins to warble out a sob.
Terrence forces the longing to stay back down to his stomach where it belongs. “But there are others still trapped in the castle,” He doesn’t want to say goodbye so soon. “And I have to go back before Adelaide notices I took him.”
He doesn’t want her to hope for him to stay. It will make it that much harder for him to leave. Her magic is too strong though the moon is still a crescent above their heads.
She leans her head against his chest and he can feel her tears on his shirt, and he can do nothing more than keep his arms around her.
“Under the wolf star, you said?” She hums a shaky tune under her breath and the baby stares up at her in awe. He nods to her question. “Then his name shall be Remus.”
The magic floods the room, and it has been ages since he has really felt connected to the forest, but he can feel the change in hierarchy in the woods themselves. Mother and son glow green the way he has only seen potions of a particularly dangerous nature shine. It’s as if their very souls are visible.
She is so pained yet so joyful when she says, “He’s mine,” The two of them continue to look at each other, and Terrence can feel the power they radiate unfiltered and raw. It bleeds into his skin in a way that he knows he’s going to smell of it for days. “He’s so fae, Terr. You can feel it, just look at him,” her tone is already as full of warmth and love as her heart is. Choking back her own cries, she stands tall, her eyes still glowing bright, and smiles.
Terrence can feel her leaving him before even she speaks.
“You will be safe on your return.” Her voice has taken on this ethereal echo, the way it does when she can’t quite cap her energy. The babe blinks and his eyes are now a blazing, neon green, and for the first time since he left the castle, Terrence feels at peace.
“Thank you, Val.” He unwraps his arms and leans down so she can grant him one last kiss on the forehead. “Wish me luck.”
She smiles and cradles her child to her chest. “You won’t need it. I will see you soon.” Her tune starts to reverberate through the walls and the trees and the sky.
He rides under the cover of night, her melody following him through the break of dawn and all the way to his bed where his eyes close, restful and safe in his queen’s song.
