Ouch, I've lost myself again

You've always been around, unseen. Having a brother like Matt could be a blessing and a nightmare in equal parts. You were feeded with stories about gigs and musicians while grow up with your older brother, who is dear to you in a way that actually you cant explain. Matt as always been your twin flame even if you are younger than him. You grew up looking at him with a lot of respect and it broke your heart when he left Texas, moving to California. At the time you werent ready for the big change and your brother's friend were still a bit mysterious to you.

You were used to spend as much time as possible in his company, but with this fresh start for him, you just fell into the ordinary. Nothing against your life, by the way; your parents always supporting, best friends ready to drive you to the closer pub and deliver the best night possible, a lovely boyfriend who adored you in any meaning.

You loved the shit out of Shawn. He was your person, the one always there when you were in need. Your high school sweetheart. Maybe he wasnt your first kiss or your first fuck but he was the one who made you feel like it was worthy, living for someone else. The one who pushed you to improve yourself for your own sake, that helped you in finding a job for the local tattoo shop as a piercer when the school was over.

You did everything in your power to be the best girlfriend possible. You decoreted your shared flat in the warmest way possible. You turned down a good scholarship for that college in Montana, pissing your parents and brother for this lost opportunity. You gave up to your dream to be a writer because he had to stay in Texas and take care of his mom. You helped him through the loss, when she die.

But it wasn't enough.

You loved the shit out of Shawn and he loved you in return, but it wasn't enough.

Your relationship suffered a slow, agonizing death with multiple attempt of reanimation. Vacations togheter, a bigger flat, a cat.

Nothing compensate the distance between the two of you and he was the one brave enough to call it for a quit. You knew was gonna happen but it didn't hurt you less. Moving back to your parents, while quitting your job just to avoid to meet him everyday, took you to the bottom. Then the shutdown decided to kick you while you were already down, spending days in bed just listen music or watching anime whitout any chance to go out with your friends or for just a walk.

Everyone was really worried about you. You lose weight and that energy that always marked you.

And you stayed there, drowing in your own misery until Matt decided that enough was enough.

The end of fall 2021 signed your rebirth. Matt found a bigger apartment for the two of you and Lucifurr, your vicious black cat which has an obsession in chewing cables and destroy everything paper made. You have always want to leave nearby the ocean and Malibu had a ton of opportunities to offer you. You started a yoga class the same week you moved, in order to make some new friends. Accoding to Matt, there are a lot of things to do around the band he is working with, Bad Omens.

You offer yourself as a merchgirl, but since you're a good writer an even better in tolerate people bullshit (you have to be karmatic, all the teens who came to get a piercing to the shop have always made a scene in front of needles), you could be perfect as a PR/assistant for the band. You remember them barely because someway somehow, these are the guys who steal all the time Matt has. Time that you never get.

You remember this four guys with long hair, basic metalheads, except for the drummer. You remember when you gave him the nostril after a show in 2015, maybe 16, and he took it like a champ whitout complaining. You remember the singer, this slenderman type of guy with beautiful long hair that looks like silk. You've never felt more envy of someone else hair like that. And also the other three guys were nice, especially Vincent. The only one who you can connect to a familiar face because you two got a nice conversation on tattoos when you visited Matt, three years ago.

They are nice.

You've heard stories about them at every phone call.

But still, thieves of precious moments that you want have again in your life again between you and your brother.

All the missing birthday, all the call postponed due to technical issues. He wasn't there to pick up your pieces when Shawn get a rid of you.

And Matt wasn't supposed to, but being selfish, you wish he was there.

But he is now and this is enough to bring the light back to your life. The long talks after dinner, movie nights, everything is back to the normal between you two since you moved and it's restoring.

With this wave of good mood, even if you havent forgotten Shawn yet, you enroll to gym, so you can work out after yoga.

And is in this specific place that you meet Eric.

The first time you caught him lurking at you you were running on the thremill.

There is something familiar in him but still, you dont know anyone in LA. You were the one who actually landed the first conctact with this new alien subject, so introvert to avoid your eyes.

You are not ready for a new story yet, but after almost a year after you broke up with Shawn, you needed at least some human conctact. Eric was nice with you since the beginning. He invited you to this dive bar after the gym a couple of times, not far from your place. He paid for you a couple of cocktails while having a real nice Conversation. A superficial one, about the tattoos that covered him. About living in LA. You mentioned your brother a couple of times and he talked about his roomates and all the crazy things they have done during the pandemic.

He told you he is a Producer and you told him you're still unemployed.

One way or another, he got closer to you in a matter of days. And when he kissed you, you obliged and kiss him back. One thing leaded to another and the two of you ended fucking in the back of his SUV. And oh boy... you needed it so much. It was a quickie, but he seemed to be promising. Do you think part of the reason for the delay in acotar5 is maybe her having to rewrite the book or large parts of it because she hadn’t originally fully plotted out the cross over concept for the books that would take place after it happened (after sf) and also because she kind of wrote herself into a corner with acosf by focusing to much on character driven storyline’s? My feeling is she was so busy self inserting herself into nestas “recovery” she forgot to make any real significant plot advancement so now needs to do that in acotar5 (and acotar6) +write a convincing fully fleshed out romance? Now she only has 2 actual books to conclude the whole acotar/ic story arcs , incorporate any new storyline’s introduced in the cross over all while also having focus on 1 romantic pairing per book, that’s got to be tough to fit in and I think her record with sf shows she struggles to do that within one book. It seems like it’s either romance or plot for her if she doesn’t have multiple books to tell a story.

On a side note a couple of things I find frustrating in this fandom is that people make blank statements like “she’s a mates author. So elucian and *gwynriel will be her pairings” like an author can’t grow and write new concepts and in a market so saturated with fated mates why do people want the same old same old and why wouldn’t an author like sjm not want to try something a bit different? and the second thing is (and these are the same people who sprout the fated mates author bullshit) when people say things like 3 sisters 3 bothers is so cliche, cheesy or boring like why the fudge are you reading romantasys if troupe based writing isn’t your thing ffs. It’s all just regurgitated bulls*#t from book to book author to author and isn’t that the appeal of this genre?

I definitely think that she needed the crossover to build up some of the ACOTAR story because she dropped the ball in ACOSF and created such minimal plot with only the troves being of any importance that she needed to start working 'backwards' to create a beefier story.

I think it was even a bigger story on HOFAS but I think it did take over and took away from Bryce's story, becoming too much of an ACOTAR story.

While she is kind of mate-obsessed, to the point of it become boring and predictable, I am hoping that with Elain it will be something more unique. 2 mates, 1 true mate and 1 false mate, no mate at all--I don't know. I think many of her more successful couples didn't have the mate thing happening for a long time. Elorcan, Chaol and Yrene, even Feysand, UNTIL they mated (frankly after they mated they became kind of boring), and I think she had a good idea with Quinlar and 'chosen mates' idea, but it failed to execute.

Also, SJM has literally NO DESIRE to write Elucien. LOL

Like you could tell this is not where she is at mentally or otherwise. I also dont thinks he has any interest in devoting a whole book to Lucien of all people. Like I dont think she even likes him. She isnt writing a wholeass Elucien book.

So I finished Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth last night. I told my husband I was going to spam finish the ending and I did warn him that final fantasy endings (including final boss fights) are usually notoriously long but I didn't realize that final section was THAT long. I chewed off all my fingernails too in the process so typing all this is actually hurting me. Spoilers below eventually.

I have some thoughts or feels right now that may change as the game ages. I think its similar feels to how I felt with the Remake which is kind of overall a sense of..disappointment? in a way. I think its the same type of disappointment as you get when you convert a book experience into a movie.

Like deep down I understand that they aren't just making a remake, they've added an extra twist. I understand that they have expanded upon the world and added more character development to make the world seem bigger and more alive. But it does not feel the same. My husband is not familiar with video games so I was excited to show him this badass world and game and honestly a lot of it was cheesefest and make Cloud look as silly as possible. Which is fine for me as a FF veteran but I kept having to say "no I swear this is serious game, serious characters" but then again when we played OGFF7 we were kids..my perception of cool is probably different.

GAME MECHANICS

I had a lot of issue with the game mechanics when it came to exploring the world. It tricked you initially making you think it was open world but it isnt. Its very "follow the path" but then you get held up by random rocks and environmental blockages. They added some features like being able to climb up walls and some rocks but not all rocks and then when you do climb its extremely slow. I find myself trying to spam buttons to try and make him go faster and he wont. I honestly miss the old school world map where you would find random hidden areas in forests. I don't think that translates well in modern games though.

Utilizing the map at some points felt worthless because trying to find those locations were next to impossible. My brother had warned me about the Gongaga region but I actually think I had the worst time in Cosmo Canyon trying to find things. Junon probably being a close second. Navigating inside cities was also one of the other biggest frustrations. Getting lost in Cosmo Canyon and Kalm is not fun. If I can't walk into a town and get an immediate layout of the land, I'm instantly annoyed.

Im also usually really excited to clear a map in open world games (having played assassins creeds and eldin rings and horizon series etc) but I was over it after Junon tbh. I did not find the grind to be satisfying especially when it had some mini games in there like Fort Condor. I was over it. I was over Chadley too after remake. They added Mai to rebirth with Chadley. Done. Do not want.

MINI GAMES

that then comes down to the mini games. These are quite far responsible for the most complaints Ive seen about this game on the internet. I agree. It kind of angered my brain how the controls wouldn't be the same for all the games. In particular, the racing games. The accelerate button in chocobo racing isn't the same as the one motorcycle race. I don't remember if it was even the same for the buggy. But I was having some finger flubs because ye olde hands were used to pushing some buttons then needed to switch it up. Also, some of the mini games just seemed to be impossible. In particular, I absolutely could not figure out the Punch game in the gold saucer. I did not understand it. Could not comprehend it. And after costa del sol, I knew for sure I was not getting any mini game achievements. 100% was not going to happen for me.

BATTLE

I did set the game on easy mode so I probably cant talk about the battle mechanics. I just didn't care to make my time more frustrating. That being said, I dont feel like the materia system had that big of an impact like the original. I just hacknslashed my way through the game. The Folio screen, I felt was dumb too, just let them unlock things as they level up? Also didn't like how I couldnt zoom out on this screen. Speaking of zoom, I had issues with zooming on the world map too. It didn't zoom in and out as much as I am used to with other games. What surprised me the most was by the end I was living off RedXIII which I have not heard anybody else mention. I started the first part of the game thinking I was going to abuse Barrett forever and then I kinda learned how to use Tifa when I decided I wanted the Tifa date. But then redXIII happened. Again, it may be because I had it on easymode but with red I had him equipped with whatever that gave him instant ATB bars and leveled his limit up quick. I just had to run in spam stardust ray which staggers almost everything instantly and then my limit break would be ready. I felt I could just solo the game with him. I never could figure out how to play with Aerith or Cait Sith and just didn't use them if I didn't have to.

STORY

I think is kinda the major...well it wasn't a let down...it was just different. It was one of those where I don't know how I would feel if I wasn't familiar with OG. I think my husband was just confused. I just kept having to explain "no this is new, this did not happen" constantly. I felt it was simultaneously too over-explainey but also too cryptic at the same time. I was having to fill in the blanks with what I already knew and expected. That happened emotionally too. I did not get the same OOMPH with Aeriths death as the original. Probably because they didn't show her get skewered and then they made it cryptic about whether or not she did or didn't. "Aerith open your eyes" just confused my husband more. No bud, she dead. Its the whole multiple timelines did not give the same shock. I have to use, again, my knowledge and fill in the emotional blanks. I did really like the church scene where Sephiroth opens the church door. But I had already seen that scene online too and it made me has an assumption that Sephiroth was chasing her down. I thought there would be some sort of a scene where Aerith was going to explain to Cloud that she needed to die because that happens in the original timeline and he was going to try and convince her no and stop her and hence he has to run after her and none of that happened which hurt my feelings but I made that up so. I do like how the kept the thrust you into a bossfight with the sad music.

I tried to explain to my hubby how in the OG, her death was such an immediate shock, especially with how early it was in the game, and she was your obvious dedicated healer and then they toss you into a boss without your healer. That was rough. But it didn't matter in this game because I had no lack of healers anywhere.

CHARACTERS

I liked the voice acting, I guess. Its still kind of anime-y. Barret grew on me, this game. I thought Cloud was perfect casting. I keep comparing it to FFXII and some of the voicework in that game was brilliant and I don't really think FF7R compares in too many places. I also don't necessarily agree that the character models look great. SE has kind of gotten weird with some of their body proportions. I'm actually not talking Tifas boobs but rather her skinny long spider arms and tiny head. Its giving LunaFreya and I think its hideous and distracting. I do prefer the much more proportional Tifa from Advent Children (and what they pulled into Kingdom Hearts).

Tifa is one of my favorite characters. I do really like how Cloud got crazier as the game progressed, into crazy creepy and I like scared wary Tifa. I got the impression, this game, that Tifa suspects Cloud might have killed Aerith. I could be wrong. I know that Tifa is criticized a bit as a last minute add on character in the OG and I do kind of appreciate fleshing her out a bit. She's understandably a lot more timid and wary in this production. Makes me wonder how they're going to reverse that though in the next game cause that girl looks SCARED of Cloud.

IMPRESSIONS

It just isn't the same feel and wonderment. I get nostalgic sometimes for that sensation of the first time I turned on certain video games. The first time I turned on FF10, 12, Ni No Kuni even..and this game is not going to give me that same feel 10 years from now. I do not anticipate I'll ever say "oh man, I wish I could forget my first time playing it and experience it for the first time again".

I will play the third. I want to see Cloud lose his s--- and have a mental breakdown. I think Aerith will still be there, its not going to have that same empty hole feeling that the OG had though. But I'll play it for finality. I do hope they tie in some Advent Children stuff. I do want a nice long finale sequence but it'll probably just abruptly end unfortunately. meh.

dnd shenanegans arc 1 continued continued continued

So we all gather up to make our final push to the heart of the dungeon to try and salvage whatever treasure we can before this entire place becomes destroyed completely by Jianni. We manage to make it down further than weve ever gone before, to a level centered around a massive lake with a giant lighthouse. Kraka meets some ghosts who give her exposition on the city, and reveals to us that the city was destroyed by some sort of weird dragon, while the wedding ceremony was going on between the queens. also just realized I forgot to mention Ira had befriended a magic robot mech suit named Foundry Friend who communicates solely in charades. we do some shenanagins around the city to take 3 magical mirrors that we need to turn on the lighthouse and descend to the final floor(the mirrors are the mirror of fire, the mirror of revelation, and the mirror of growth). Also whenever Braxton looks into the mirror of revelation, that bear thing from his backstory appears behind him in the mirror and starts telling him to kill everybody in the party "for his own good", though nobody else can see or hear this.

when we get to the lighthouse (after some shenanegans with a lake spirit) and also having to sacrifice Foundry Friend to an even bigger robot (aparently all of the robots in the city were created by breaking of parts of an even bigger robot but it needs to reconstruct itself so it absorbs FF back into itself)(idk) Also at the lighthouse we meet Lady Onieva again (forgot to mention she did help us out with getting one of the mirrors, but then double crossed us again), who tries to kill us, but this time we get the upper hand and manage to defeat her for good and steal her ring (through identify we find that basicaly how the ring works is if you put it on you instintaly die and become undead with the power to control undead around you).

Red ends up unconcious again though (this is a bit of a recuring pattern) and in her dream runs into a copy of herself wearing heavy armor who beats her up and calls her pathetic.

we activate the light house and argue over what mirror we should set as the power source of the lighthouse (fire increases strength, growth increases health, revelation sees through illusions). also int he process we activate the mirror of revalation wich shows us Braxtons true bear form (though we dont see the bear spirit). we end up going with growth, though using the lighthouse we manage to give Kraka's lantern the ability to see through illusions as well as hurt undead.

Finaly, we make it to the very bottom of the dungeon, which origionaly was the royal palace/wedding hall. the entire place is covered in a weird illusion of the day before the wedding, with everybody preparing for the celebration. also it turns out the Lost Brother escaped down to hear, so while navigating the illusion we run into it a couple times, where it turns into our worst fears and tries to kill us, but in the end we defeat it with the power of friendship (not even getting into that), though before it dies it reveals to Red that the girl in the armor from her dream was actualy the huntsman himself, who had manifested in her dream specificaly to insult her. Red does not take this news well. also when going throught he worst fears we learn Ira had an abusive mother and that Braxton was a human expirement.

also we learn that the thing that destroyed the kingdom was a wyrm that had been captured by the kingdoms wizard/alchemist/scientests for expirementation. they used its scales to create the twin rings, but it broke free on the day of the wedding and killed everyone.

While all of this went down, Max (who I trusted with the magic cursed ring but nooooo) left and went back to the elevator, to do evil magic. He does some weird stuff with a magic circle and the right to try and bend it to his will, but something goes wrong and it starts to regrow into a full wyrm before some outside force intervenes, burning the ring back down to its usual size as well as reaching out a hand of flame to burn Max for his hubris (dont worry hes a healer he fixes it)

in the end we all meet up with a now awake Lady Penelope whos a plat tree thing rooted to her thrown, who basicaly tells us that yeah she doesnt want to do this anymore and basicaly just disintigrates herself, but not before showing us the emergency exit and telling us that we have to go deeper into the wedding hall to find and kill the Wyrm that did all of this. (also by now some of the support pillars have been broken and the entire place is crumbling). (also her ring falls to the ground and breaks in two but ira still takes it)

We do what she says because final boss fight and meet the wyrm, who we have a fight with (also along the way Red ends up getting a magic bear cloak as well as a broken dragon marble from a portal between dimentions that she closed) (also kit gets a pair of teleporting boots from a different portal they close) In the end we win the fight, with Red getting the final shot straight through the heart. As it turns out, however, a wyrms heart is a portal to another dimention, one far stronger that the ones we shut down, and by shooting a hole in it, the gateway opens, and none other than Benny McTimekeeper struts on in to our dimension at last (also forgot to mention Ira and Kraka both ended up meeting Benny due to the fact that he kidnapped Max two more times but they werent all that plot relevant so I didnt mention them). He informs us that, as part of the favors we owe him, as well as in return for returning Max's unconcious body to us (forgot to mention again Max was kidnapped by Benny into the black pine forest again before the fight) we will become the heralds/horsemen of the apocalypse. he then gives us back max, promises that he will not being seing us as much going forward (he has schedules to keep up, hes a very busy man)(also he mentions having "coworkers" that are making preparations a lot) and helps us escape with the last survivors of the caravan, just before Jianni breaks the last support pillar and the entire place is claimed by the earth

and thats a rap on act 1!

its the longest of the 4 arcs so these asks should get shorter going forward (yeah this one is really long didnt really realize just sorta wanted to finish and not have to stretch it out anymore)

remember how mcyt was so chill before all of this shit? how we would watch our favorite minecraters when the community was so small? or how mcc was an event that both ccs and fans can have some fun and entertainment once per month? and that was only last year too. now look at the new generation of mcyt fans and see why some of the old fans dont really associate the new ones.

as a fan of the old gen mcytbers like DanTDM, SkyDoesMinecraft, Aphmau and CaptainSparklez. heck im a fan of pewds’ minecraft series before dream or tommy or ranboo or the new gen of mcyt ccs blew up (a year before them if im correct), and we dont see drama or bad shit all the time when it comes to their content.

heres something to tell yall about that. scott doesnt have a fucking choice. scott smajor has told time and time again, WEEKS before the announcement of teams, that there are certain requirements and limitations to mccp21 thus there will be difficulty in choosing whos entering or whos not. limitations and requirements such as it will be streamed on youtube or how streamers with twitch contracts aren’t allowed to stream or (god bless scott’s good heart) scott not allowing some of the lgbtq+ streamers in joining the special event due to wanting them to have a chance to stream and experience their first mcc (so to those who said that ranboo should have been in mccp21, shut up ‘cuz scott wanted genderman to have fun streaming his first mcc but cant due to ranboo being a well-known twitch streamer). to those who complained that ant and velvet should be in the mcc, stop being selfish and do some actual research on why scott didn’t include them. a simple question to those two’s fans would answer that they can’t make it due to them camping for a week which within those days is the mccp21. they’re having time to themselves, not wasting it on a minecraft championship. 

take in the consideration that, oh i dont know, not a lot of lgbtq+ ccs applied to the event? its not a free invite championship (in fact, mcc has always been like that), it’s an applied with the sufficient and correct requirements kind of event. the artist who created the icons from the previous mcc for the teams said that scott let in some of the new ccs in last minutes due to lack of applicants not meeting the requirements thus not having custom artworks for the teams if they want to announce the teams in time.

2.) “there’s no lesbians or trans in the teams >:(((”

sadly enough, there’s not much of the players from the lgbtq+ community but to say there’s no trans people in mccp21 is utterly false. by definition, trans mean  denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex. other genders such as non-binary, genderfluid, androgyne, bigender, gender expansive all fall under trans. you define yourself with the gender you personally chose and comfy with from you birth gender. so saying there’s no trans in the teams when there are players from the event like eret or sqaishey who are nb and genderfluid respectively are there to also represent not only the sexuality but also the gender identity of others??? like c’mon, please make sense mcyttwt. 

also, while its sad to not see lesbians, please know that lgbtq+ doesn’t strictly be defined by lesbians. ffs, lgbtq+ literally means Lesbians Gays Bisexuals Transgenders and Questioning (or Queer but im not too sure about that one) which means that there are still other representatives for the community in the event.

3) “technoblade is in the event?!!! WHAT THE FUCK, HES A HOMOPHOBE/LESBIPHOBE-”

utter clowns, toxic twitter users are. do you really think that scott smajor, an openly gay man, would let a supposed “homophobe/lesbiphobe” in an event that focuses in supporting the lgbtq+ community? do you hear yourself? do you even do research where the joke he made was when he was the same age as me and it was based on a historical article back in WW2? or how he passionately supports the community especially the lesbians because a lesbian couple complimented him to which kickstart his confidence? the man willingly went to this mcc event despite being flamed a lot in twitter because he (and everyone) knows that his chat, his fans and supporters, are literal millionaires. if you saw a stream from foolish where he auctioned canonical characters for funs, a techno fan donated thousand of dollars to get technoblade, and that’s only one fan, now imagine a hundreds of thousands of them.

like it or not, technoblade has always been open about his support to the community, especially that majority of his fanbase are from the same community that mcyttwt allegedly swore that technoblade hates.

ive seen the cool ones who actually took the consideration for scott's side and the criticism of the lack of representation of other communities within the lgbtq+ umbrella (ive even share some parts of it above so im also a bit upset to the lack of numbers in the community). and some of them are correct about recruiting lgbtq+ creators in youtube but! like i said, it's an applied event and not invitational one, so its up to that content creator if they want to join or not. the amount of cishet in the roster are just those who want to support the cause and/or backups/stand-ins in case scott and noxcrew can't find enough ccs in time!

just wanna clear this up because mcyttwt these days are covered by really cringe fans (ive noticed a pattern of them mostly new ones but there are still awesome new fans (like my irl friend who just joined this year) within the community) that covered the good ones where they enjoy, have fun and share some neat ideas and thoughts to the community within the platform!

Should fanbases who support be blamed? Should two members who have been friends for more than 10 years, always supporting each other by promoting each other's music, improving together by attending vocal lessons tgt be blamed for releasing a vlog of them hanging out a day tgt and maybe one day putting their voices in one song tgt? Just because of you, a solo stan who lives thousand miles away that wants their bias to not be supported by his own fanbase and to not be affiliated with his band mate and best friend who have always been supporting him?

And lastly, it's not bcs of shipping, it's akgaes and some of yeolmaes who love all exo members except baekhyun and bbhls who love all exo members except chanyeol, who simply hate seeing their bias getting support and being happy, at least we chanbaekist react positively when lesson with baekhyun was released, imagine chanyeol/baekhyun seeing yalls comment to the video on twt, "chanyeol/baekhyun stop doing this shit" are they gonna be happy to receive negative response to the content both of them worked on amidst the busy schedules they had? are they gonna be happy seeing negative responses to the streaming project, which going to support both of them? when themselves been supporting each other since day 1? well of course no, im not baekhyun and chanyeol, we dont know them at all, but what we know is the fact that they are best friends who are always there for each other, and akgaes, yeolmaes, bbhls, yall doing this just....just to add more negativity to their lives instead of positive things.. all you do is spreading hate and wanting ur idol to be selfish just. like. you.

So, i just hope baekhyun and chanyeol will see that even tho yall dumbasses exist, they still have millions of people out there that support and love them both, as both individuals and friends, and may someday yall burn in hell

Hello! Haha, it’s ok, we all miss things from time to time!

it was also breathtaking and I loved the world of ancient Greece! I loved that I could go to places that I have visited in real life! I was always wondering how exactly Ubisoft created the landscape (if they saw pictures or just freestyled it) and now I know I mostly freestyle it - so it was another interesting part of the game. Fighting mythical creatures, meeting important historical people, climbing everywhere make the game amazing. I have played every game in the series and the story was always fast paced. So now Odyssey felt a little too long for me. But there was always something to explore so I wasn’t bored.

Only one thing kinda annoyed me in the game and I am gonna rant a little: Greek and foreign friends observed most of Greek civilians were too dark. I don’t mean “tan”, I mean they had complexions of south Indians, but still looked super European Caucasian in the facial characteristics. Meanwhile, Ubisoft made Italians, our neighbors and the people closest to us, whiter than us. (We are next to each other, helloooo?) Even Middle easterners and Arabs in the first game were lighter than the Greeks in AC Odyssey. This doesn’t make sense… I guess Ubisoft really bought to the western notion of how Greeks are supposed to look.

Actually, we have zero evidence ancient Greeks were darker than modern Greeks AND if you see ancient Greek art people weren’t so dark. (Ubisoft must have ignored the fact that the skintones in ancient Greek art were also gendered so the men were presented tanned and the women super white because it was the beauty standard and didn’t reflect reality). 

Some may say that “those people were dark because they were simple people and not nobility”. Please, let’s stop spreading this. Most of Greece was hella poor for the last centuries but our skin is still overwhelmingly light beige. I have grandparents who starved and worked in the fields but didn’t magically turn brown. Plus, this notion harms dark skinned people because it implies that their family was poor and their amount of melanin is connected to their low status! 

Making ancient Greeks much darker than modern Greeks (with no historical evidence) will strongly play into the idea that modern Greeks have no connection to ancient Greeks - something that westerners usually support. Or it will have another negative effect and people will continue telling Greeks that they are too light to be actual Greeks. (I don’t know if you have seen it but in the previous months I had many asks from Greeks living abroad telling me this was their experience. Even on Tumblr when they post pictures foreigners tell them they don’t look Greek). 

Tan people and people of other ethnicities existed in the game and I am obviously fine with that. I am complaining about the image of the average Greek they created. It’s obviously not a bad thing to have darker skin! But it’s simply inaccurate to make the bigger population of Greeks so dark. It doesn’t have to do with “skintone superiority” or something. Accuracy is really important to me. I am striving to give good information when someone asks me something about ancient Greece and Ubisoft just didn’t give a shit and went with “let’s make them all dark I guess because reasons!”

Also: SOMEONE TEACH THE GRAPHISTS HOW TO MAKE BLOND HAIR FFS! All the blond people in the game had white-ish hair and looked like grandpas. Alciviades looked like he had grown old before his time! (I still romanced him though, hoo hoooo)
