been noticing a rise in posts like "most people like ships that are nice and cute and happy meanwhile i the more intellectually sophisticated person in the fandom sphere like ships that are toxic and divorced" and like sure that's all well and good and i'm no stranger to the sentiment. i too have experienced the epic lows of having to read mid fanfiction where the ship i find compelling due to their dysfunction and trust issues and pathological codependence was turned into a heartstopperified therapized healthy relationship. we all saw that struggle live last fall and winter we lived it together. but like. basically i think it would also be fine if we all remembered this fandom shit is allowed to be nice and lighthearted and fun sometimes. not every ship you like has to be toxic and complicated to give you a feeling of intellectual superiority to those babies who want their ships to be happy... it doesn't all have to be gone girl it's fine if sometimes they're the lost story <3 to put things in terms of my top two books of the year which could not possibly be more tonally aesthetically and narratively different and yet i still can't decide which one i liked better... we are allowed to have two wolves inside us.... we can like it when the ship is fucked up codependent toxic divorced and dysfunctional and also want them to live happily ever after because through it all they are the only ones who can fathom what the other has been through and only they can soothe each other's pain. or whatever. peace on earth <3
#like i do understand the sentiment but i feel like a lot of it has been driven by a need to feel somehow smarter and better than like.#the common folk who only ship characters who are in love.#like be serious with me here. you’re not better than the hypothetical stupid person who likes nice ships#and they’re not better than you. the only people better than any of us are like. teachers and emts and custodians. like real people#you do not need to have an intellectual superiority complex about shipping dear god
