I definitely see what you mean. I think all levels are important. Think of all the Israeli’s in mass protests to end the war. I highly doubt the majority don’t want Israel recognized. Regardless they are an important voice right now.

I’ll be honest, I don’t exactly think there will ever not be Israel. I just don’t think it’s gonna happen. Much like I, living in the us, live on stolen land and I support the land back movement, America will likely always remain.

I think the 67 borders are what was asked for as a staring place and I feel that’s a good place to start, and equal rights for Arabs in Israel of course.

Sharon and My Mother In Law is an excellent book detailing the life of an Arab woman in the West Bank, it’s fantastic. Shows the reality and the lose of civil rights. Was also funny.

My family is catholic and it’s been disappointing and hypocritical of much of them to continue supporting the war when the pope called for a ceasefire. But then again there are whole shit show with Catholics who are anti pope Francis too

my long ass review for S32E03 Now Museum, Now You Don’t

warning: LONG because i rambled about history more than i thought i would

id been looking forward to this one because i like art history, especially after seeing how they tried their best to stick to historical accuracy in the previous episode I, Carumbus. this time however….they didnt try that hard. i dont know why i thought theyd go through that sort of trouble again LMAO

but its okay, i dont really expect the simpsons to be the paragon of historical accuracy or anything. especially in anthology episodes told through a particular character's lens (in this case, lisa, whos already feverish so whatever)

first i just wanna say that this is, i guess, less of a review and more of an accidental list of history fun facts. so im just gonna get my general thoughts out of the way first.

the episode was fun! to me at least haha. i mean it got me to think and do a lot of research on my own so that must count for something. besides a couple of really weird ones, the jokes were good. anthology episodes tend to be….not that good but i thought this one was one of the better ones so far. idk.

anyway on to lisanardo da vinky its the renaissance! jesus christ the italian accents in the beginning of this segment were annoying as hell but i also feel like that was the joke lmao. ill be real i kind of tuned out for a second there when grampa started rambling so idk what he said.

i told myself i wouldnt get nitpicky with historical accuracy if the jokes were funny (final edit: so that was a lie) but this meh bit with the pizza guys and mascots was really not worth ignoring the fact that its impossible for italy to have any tomato-based food in the 15th century (tomatoes were brought to europe from the americas in the 16th century, and pizza as we know it today—flatbread, cheese, tomato—originated in the late 18th century)

oh this next part was kind of legit tho. lisanardo, like the real leonardo, became andrea del verrochio's apprentice at his workshop. i loved this next bit:

"Whoever paints the sweetest cherub will have the honor of having MY name signed on their work. That's what great artists do!"

SO YEAH as it turns out, lisanardo painted the sweetest cherubs. the painting here is called The Baptism of Christ, and the real leonardo assisted verrochio in finishing it. specifically, he painted the cherubs in the corner.

this causes verrochio to quit and go someplace with less talented people: a music school (yes, verrochio did quit painting after getting owned by young leo and his mad angel painting skills. he never did anything with music tho, he was more of a sculptor)

alongside lisanardo, in mr largo-verrochio's workshop we have barticelli (botticelli bart), dolphatello (donatello dolph), ralphael (raphael...ralph) and mediocrito (no one that i know of. sorry milhouse) (and kearney i guess but they dont refer to him by name). botticelli and donatello are said to have also been apprentices at verrochio's workshop, but raphael came a couple of decades later so he couldnt have been there. and donatello was too old so that claim is a bit questionable. but anyway

it IS true that leonardo's peers envied him, to the point where he was anonymously and purposefully accused of being gay (a major crime punishable by death in 15th century florence) while he was still working at verrochio's workshop

we are then treated by what im pretty sure is the fourth time the show has used 'at seventeen' by janis ian, this time sung by a dejected lisanardo (man they really do keep making yeardley sing these days huh) who only wishes to be appreciated and not envied.

"I'll show them all! I'll show them all in a secret diary that no one will decipher for 400 years!"

so after barticelli, for some reason (revenge??? or something?? what was his plan here idgi) steals lisanardo's diaries full of blueprints of her inventions and takes them to mr burns who i have to assume is pope alexander VI here, they decide to use her inventions for war.

"With these, we can kill the most evil people in the world!! ....Slightly different Christians."

leo actually did this of his own accord. im surprised this is what they decided to do with lisanardo instead of talking about leo's love of nature and vegetarianism (not a single mention of that in this episode? come on...) then again, trying to do good only to end up indirectly making things worse is a very standard lisa storyline. i guess they didnt want to miss the chance to have evil pope burns (very fitting, especially for that era since they were all about money and controlling the people)

so lisanardo decides to leave for france, unlike the real leonardo who was more or less persuaded by his ultimate fanboy king francis I to move to france.

"Lisanardo, I have many questions. Why are you hitting yourself? A nerd says 'what'? And how is it possible that I am rubber and you are glue? Et cetera, et cetera."

that line may seem a little random, like hes just nelson saying nelson things (and i mean, obviously he is) but the real francis also "had an unquenchable thirst for learning, and Leonardo was the world’s best source of experimental knowledge. He could teach the king about almost any subject there was to know, from how the eye works to why the moon shines." so yeah, he did have many questions and lisanardo, finally being appreciated for her intellect, was happy to answer them all. its very interesting how lisa assigned this role to nelson in her retelling of da vinci’s life :^)

and so she lived the rest of her days in france, nat king cole's 'mona lisa' plays because duh, and they make a da vinci code reference because duh. and the segment ends. and not a single time did they show the actual mona lisa painting. the fuck?

(ngl i was fully expecting bart to say 'leonardo da vinky' for a second here)

so this next segment is about french impressionist painters, most likely the batignolles group, a name adopted by the early representatives of impressionism. its much more vague than the lisanardo segment since no one here is referred to by name (except moe, more on him in a sec) but i dont feel like it really matters in this case. bart is prrrrooobably claude monet but its hard to say, this segment is kind of a mish-mash of a lot of things. also i gotta say i really liked how lisa introduced the story to bart with an 'if you hate the formal study of art' and not 'if you hate art' because thats exactly my headcanon. i LOVE the concept of artist bart and whenever its referenced it just makes perfect sense to me.

anyway the segment opens in 1863 at the école des beaux-arts (back then it was actually known as the académie des beaux-arts), preserver of traditional french art styles. skinner reviews his students’ paintings one by one. praises the plain, unimaginative paintings depicting your typical european countryside landscapes. very run-of-the-mill (haha get it...cuz theres….a windmill) (although the real académie didnt approve of such basic stuff, they wanted artists to draw epic historical and mythological scenes) then he gets to barts painting and he gives him an F- because the painting made him think.

(the paintings in this scene arent real famous paintings as far as i know but they are inspired by real paintings enough to get the point across)

in comes barney dressed as bacchus as a model for the students to sketch, which i just loved:

barney: “You prefer robe open or robe off?” skinner: “Just cover your privates with this walnut shell.” barney: “Whoa!!! So roomy!”

skinner gasps in horror at bart’s sketch, which “looks nothing like him” and bart explains that “it shouldn’t; we’re making the art that we feel because we can’t compete with a camera.” damn, you go bart. take that, realism. draw what you feel!!

(also no, you didnt need to hold still for 17 hours for a daguerreotype. 30 min tops.)

nelson haw-haw of the week: FOIE-gras!

so here they are at the moulin rouge (“enjoy it before baz luhrmann ruins it” hey shut up. i love that movie), which wouldnt be built for another 26 years, but it is the most widely known gathering place for bohemians in the public consciousness so i can understand why they went with the moulin. nelson delivers this anachronistic line:

“This époque keeps getting beller and beller!”

which alludes to la belle époque, the golden age of france usually dated from 1880 to 1914. made me snort so ill let that slide

and heres moe! as henri de toulouse-lautrec, who was actually born a year after the year this segment is set in. yo moe szyslak he was just 1

toulouse-moetrec introduces himself as the chronicler of the demimonde (not an actual job). an iconic figure associated with the moulin rouge (largely due to his affinity for alcohol and prostitutes), toulouse-lautrec was also a painter, having illustrated a series of posters for the moulin himself. he simply had to be in this segment, anachronisms be damned, just because they decided to include the moulin. cant have one without the other.

and yes he did have a walking cane where he kept his liquor.

i love how everyone drinks absinthe in this place. theyre bohemians what else would they drink

toulouse-moetrec points out that barts paintings are the greatest thing hes ever seen (and hes seen like five things!) and that hes a genius. milhouse realizes that they should stop doing what the teacher says and use their own minds to instead...start doing what bart says lmao. to the easels!

next we have skinner hyping up chalmers about the art his students made for the salon de paris, an art exhibition that the emperor of france will attend. he assures him that none of these paintings will encourage debate, provoke thought or be out of place at a dentist’s office. when they unveil the art, theyre both SHOCKED at how scandalous the paintings actually are.

this reaction was kind of accurate. impressionism was severely rejected at the salon de paris, due to paintings not looking finished enough to them, they thought they were ugly and vulgar for depicting nudity in a contemporary setting (historical and mythological nudity was fine). these impressionist paintings were sent to the salon de refusés, which is. yeah. the place where they sent the rejects. the salon de refusés does not make an appearance but this scene makes a reference to it when the artists get expelled from the royal salon. also:

“What about our student loans?” “Oh they’ll be refunded. We are not barbarians, I mean, come on.”

so the painters are down because they want the emperor to actually see their paintings. toulouse-moetrec pipes in once again with an idea.

“There is one thing the emperor loves more than anything.” “France?” “No, he hates France.”

apparently the emperor really loves cheese, which makes sense since its napoleon III (who loved cheese) and homer (who loves cheese.) so the painters roll into the salon inside a giant wheel of cheese (obviously.) as lenny said, “Eh, you know French cheese. Very runny.” napoleon III chases after the wheel into a room, where the wheel falls apart after getting chomped on by the emperor. now that they got his attention, the painters proudly show the emperor their impressionist art, which he couldnt be more indifferent about because he just wants to eat his cheese dammit, and he awards them with the royal medallion just to kind of get them out of his way. skinner immediately starts kissing ass (as he does) until marge’s like ‘hey wait a minute. you expelled these students from the royal salon’ and an executioner immediately starts ominously measuring skinners neck.

“Uh, sir...is your tongue sticking out because you’re dead or because you’re mad at me?”

and thats the end of that lmao (gore in this episode, gore in the last episode, and next week we’re getting gore too cuz its THOH, what the hell is goin on)

we get a short intermission with maggie, who wants a story for her too! lisa tells her that renaissance artists loved to put babies in their paintings, especially baby angels.

not much else to say about this one, really. but i really liked that sky!

the last segment is about frida kahlo and diego rivera. or as bart puts it ‘the one about a fat guy whos wife is too good for him.’ i was REALLY looking forward to this one because i love frida and i thought itd be a cool opportunity for animators to go bonkers and do really cool shit with her art as inspiration…..but the segment is not about frida, its about diego and his selling out to capitalism. and its also yet another story with homer and marge drama. no funky cool animation here. sigh i guess i’ll take it

the story begins in 1929 at la casa azul, frida’s home (now museum dedicated to her life and work.) frida and diego are getting married. this courtyard definitely did not look this way yet back in 1929. also theres something very cringy yet funny about lovejoy saying spanish words the way he does, i honestly cant decide how i feel about that one

the writers know theyre being cringy with their gringoness so they go along with it.

moe: “Spanish for ‘best wishes’!” mel: “Spanish for ‘congratulations’!” bumblebee man: “Spanish for ‘muy bueno’!”

OH YEAH BUMBLEBEE MAN this is his new voice actor, eric lopez! hes not mexican but its still great to finally have a latino actor voicing a latino character and hes very excited to be part of the show so i hope to hear more of him!! im rooting for him

el barto/zorro makes an appearance which i am very confused about. he has jack shit to do with frida and diego and mexico in the 20s-30s. el zorro was set in the spanish california of the early 19th century. their use of the original theme song makes me think they just wanted to flex their disney privileges tbh

lets not talk about that that whole scene was bad

anyway diego announces he and frida are going to new york, without even asking her first. frida is obviously pissed.

“Don’t worry, as a woman, you’ll be treated with much more respect in America.”

so in new york, diego is having a bit of a business meeting with mr burns as one of the members of the rockefellers, who is commissioning him to draw a mural for the rockefeller center. its kinda funny how he refers to him and frida as socialists even though they were very much communists lmao its okay you can say it. ok so far, but then frida says ‘yes, we hate the capitalists! right now, a young socialist is being born who will take them down! mr. bernie sanders. i hope hes quick about it’ and that was a simple enough joke and couldve been left at that but then its immediately followed by this weird as fuck family guy-esque cutaway gag to bernie as a baby:

“Getting a cootie shot should not cost your lunch money. And if you don’t listen to me, listen to the Bernie Babies! What? Everybody’s got goons.” *larger babies start beating up this other baby* “I disavow that, and welcome it.”

this confused me so much that i had to ask one of my american friends to help me understand, but even she was like ‘uhhh yeah thats a weird joke,’ especially now that hes been out of the race for months (then again these episodes take almost a year to produce. i guess they couldnt be bothered to replace it with something more relevant.) whatever that was weird and confusing and unfunny moving on

frida is pretty irked that diego is going through with this deal. after all, it goes against everything they believe in. im not sure how the real frida felt about diego doing the mural, but she did feel a bit of rage during her visit to the united states, especially the obvious disparity between rich and poor. she hated having to interact with capitalists and found americans very boring. in this segment, frida seems to be acting more like the american communist party, which diego got kicked out of for accepting commissions from wealthy patrons. in any case, frida is pretty upset about this whole thing.

and finally we get the first and only kind of surreal frida moment. kinda. maybe. its more cartoonish than anything but im desperate ok

interesting how they felt like they had to add a “don’t smoke” in big letters after showing patty and selma flying away on their giant cigarettes. i wonder if this is something theyre making them do now? i remember hearing something about them toning down patty and selma’s smoking

diego comes home to frida, drunk as hell, followed by the marx brothers. i cant believe they didnt make a marxism joke come on it was RIGHT THERE. THE MARX BROTHERS. KARL MARX. COME ON

frida paints her feelings.

this makes diego realize that frida is a genius and he is not half the artist she is. he proclaims he will now show his awe of her by sleeping with other women, starting “an hour ago.” to which frida replies, “and i will start sleeping with other women, starting two hours ago.” yes this was pretty much their relationship. though im just wondering how the hell did diego not know frida was this kind of artist until now? i know homers an idiot but jeez. art was how frida and diego met, diego knew from the get-go that frida was an incredible artist. i guess the fame got to his head or something. again, homer just being stupid.

“well enough already, while the art is still deco, okay?”

its time for the mural diego painted, Man At The Crossroads, to be unveiled:

rockefeller examines it. good and great so far, and then...uh oh

“Who’s that fellow…? With the beard, and the bolshevik smile…” “That’s the founder of Soviet Russia, Lenin!”

“B-b-but he’s a communist!” “Oh he just attended a couple of meetings.”

rockefeller will not have this communist in the temple to capitalism that is the rockefeller center, so he orders diego to paint over it. diego stands his ground and refuses. despite rockefeller’s threats, diego says that theres only one person he wants to be proud of him no matter what and in true homer & marge fashion, frida is touched by this. they happily leave the rockefeller center.

now, the real story of Man At The Crossroads and the rockefeller center was actually not that different. as soon as the rockefellers found out diego had snuck in a portrait of lenin into the mural, they ordered him to paint over it, to which he refused. diego even offered to include abraham lincoln and even american abolitionists in the mural as a compromise, but the rockefellers simply did not want any references to communism whatsoever. they did not complain about the hammer and sickle, though. yes, they did know diego was a communist and hired him anyway. what did they expect? lmao. diego said:

"Rather than mutilate the conception [of the mural], I shall prefer the physical destruction of the conception in its entirety, but preserving, at least, its integrity."

so they decided to destroy the mural before it was even finished and they never talked to each other again.

diego then repainted the mural at the palacio de bellas artes back in mexico, this time known as Man, Controller of the Universe. this new version included even more communist leaders and a depiction of john d. rockefeller jr. drinking at a nightclub, right underneath a depiction of syphilis bacteria. cue nelson haw-haw:

this was the version they used in the episode also, since the original was, well, never finished and also destroyed. only a black and white photograph of it exists, taken by diego before it was destroyed so he could remake it.

right so, homer!diego then pulls a Barthood and finishes the episode with a large mural summarizing the entire episode. he says some rick and morty thing i didnt get because i dont watch the show idk idc

The arrow the flower and the hawk, all in gold leaf.              Char sat watching it at the bar inside the great ball room of the former presidential palace, wearing the only civilian clothes he had, a white suit. The lights off save the screen of the television. He had pulled a bottle of UC0061 Wild Turkey whiskey from the shelf and made himself one whiskey and water after another. He was sipping through his second glass when Icelina sat next to him

Its been a while since I asked you meta related things so I just had a random idea - top 5 characters which you just dont understand, top 5 ch which are well writen but you cant connect or like, top 5 ch storylines you would like to alter, top 5 traits of your disliked chracters that you like, top 5 traits of your loved characters you dislike, top 5 ways your disliked characters contributed to the main storyline that youre fine with. For males and females separately so theres room for thought :)

Top 5 Characters I Don’t Understand

Male

Wesley Wyndam Pryce - okay, so this is only from mid-Season 3 onward, but I cannot fathom Wesley’s actions in stealing Connor, consulting with Holtz and doubting/not believing in Angel to the point where he didn’t realise that Angel would do everything in his power to protect Connor. Then his self-righteous attitude post-kidnap is appalling, the fact that he acts like the wronged party and refuses to acknowledge his own wrongdoings and never apologises for his actions all drive me crazy. Just can’t.

Luke Danes, I mean, buddy, pull it together. You say you want Lorelai, yet never make a move and then bitch about her boyfriends and act like a jerk. You say you’re “all in” and then you run at the first sign of trouble and make Lorelai feel like she did something wrong. You tell Lorelai you want her to be honest with you and then you hide your daughter from her for two freakin’ months. You say you want to spend your life with her, yet you shut her out of it. Like, wtf??

Fitzgerald Thomas Grant III, omg, why is he such an abusive asshole? Why does he treat every woman he’s with like crap? Why does he treat Mellie as if she’s insignificant and stupid? Why does he act entitled to everyone’s time and affections? Why does he continually try to give up the most powerful position in America? Why doesn’t he have any ambition? Why does he resent anyone who does??? I don’t understand.

John Winchester. Dude’s always going on about how he “did the best that he could”. Nope. The best he could would have been to raise his boys in a stable freakin’ environment, not push adult responsibility onto his eldest, not treat his youngest like an outcast/freak for wanting a better life and actually being an adult and being there for his boys. How does he justify the way he treated his sons? Don’t get it.

Finn Collins. Dude, you cheat on your girlfriend, neglect to tell the girl you’re cheating with that you even have a girlfriend, don’t tell your girlfriend you cheated on her and expect both girls to still want you? Plus the whole massacring eighteen unarmed people and then ignoring their bodies as the girl you want walks in horrified and look at her as if she’ll love you for your actions? Yikes.

Female

Lorelai Gilmore, she constantly puts her mother down for her privilege and sense of entitlement, yet displays the exact same behaviour. She rejected Chris, then bitches about how he “wasn’t ready”. She thinks all her behaviour is cute but it’s actually really annoying. And she honestly seems to believe that her parents were the absolute worst parents in the world, when it reality they were really good to her and always try to be a part of her life. Pull it together, woman!

Octavia Blake, why does she blame her brother for everything? Why is her solution always violence? Why does she proudly cannibalize people? Why does she think she knows more about a culture she’s been a part of for two seconds than the people actually raised in said culture? 

Nancy Wheeler. Why does she want Jonathan so badly? Why does she screw over Steve? What makes her neglect her brother and run off with the guy she just banged? Why doesn’t she think through the consequences of her actions? Why did she offer her brother zero comfort when his friend “died”? What made her think it was okay to chase down Jonathan while he was picking out a coffin for his brother’s funeral to talk about Barb? Girl drives me bonkers.

Joey Potter, so many of her actions make no sense. She pines after Dawson for years and then breaks up with him for literally no reason. She blames him for telling her the truth about her father, after repeatedly saying they need to be honest with one another. She can’t decide between two guys for years. She constantly rejects Pacey yet picks him in the end. She believes she’s entitled to be a bitch to people just because she’s had a tough life.

Aria Montgomery, if your creepy-ass relationship really so important to you that you would lie to your friends and family, threaten your parents, risk your partner going to jail, threaten to walk out on your family and basically cease to exist outside of your boyfriend? Yikes.

Top 5 Characters Who Are Well-writen But I Can’t Connect To or Like

Male

John Locke, a great-written character who drives me up the wall with his over-zealousness and delusions of grandeur.

Spike, he really does have a great character arc and characterisation but his over-exposure and the fandom’s adulation of him drive me crazy, plus I hate how his narrative overtakes Buffy’s.

Jack Shepherd, such a great arc, such an amazing journey but his douchey behaviour and the way he treats certain characters means I just can’t like him.

Perry Cox, I find him amusing and do occasionally like him but his lack of self-awareness and overall mean attitude and sexism bugs me.

Dean Winchester, so well-written with a great arc but also abusive, violent, self-righteous, sexist and overall annoying as hell.

Female

Regina Mills, her redemption arc is sloppy but her characterisation was always strong and she’s a fantastic villain, which is why I love to hate her.

Robin Scherbatsky, very well-written with a great arc (until the finale) but I just cannot like her, probably due to her arrogance and meanness.

Rachel Green, now, I don’t hate Rachel or anything but she’s one of my least-favourite Friends characters and I’ve never been able to connect with her.

Katniss Everdeen, a great-written character whose personality I find very hard to reconcile and who I just cannot connect with.

Kate Austin, great arc, great characterisation, full of traits I can’t stand and makes choices that make me want to throttle her.

Top 5 Characters Storylines I Would Like To Alter

Male

Neal Cassidy, he was done so dirty by that damn show!

August Booth, another one screwed over by OUAT and there was so much left to explore with his character!

Dean Forrester, I really hate how much Gilmore Girls dumbled down and assassinated his character.

Boyd Langton, Dollhouse’s weird out-of-nowhere reveal that he was the bad guy completely changed his character and he didn’t deserve that.

Jake Ballard, he deserves better than being second-choice for Olivia Pope.

Female

Laurel Lance, who deserved the fucking world and got nothing, I would change so much about her storyline and eventual fate.

Mellie Grant who, like Laurel, deserved so much and got shit.

Emma Swan, who was character assassinated in order to box her into a toxic ship which decimated everything about her.

Juliet Burke, who should have lived and had a happy life and finally made it off that damn Island!

Effy Stonem, who deserved better than to be sandwiched between two guys who treated her like a prize and blamed her for their rivalry, not to mention the shitty “friends” who used her as their scapegoat.

Top 5 Traits Of My Disliked Characters That I Like (I’m not going to pick my absolute most disliked characters for this, but just 5 characters I dislike in general. Also, probably can’t come up with five for each, so I’ll go with as many as I can list).

Going with Wesley again - love his intelligence, his surprising confidence when he allows himself to show it, his thirst for knowledge and his goofiness.

Spike - I like his bravado, his confidence and his loyalty.

Dean Winchester - similarly to Spike, his bravado, his loyalty and his confidence, as well as his humour and love of fun.

Luke Danes - I like that he’s good at the big gestures, I like his snark and his homebody nature.

Jess Mariano - I like intelligence, his snark and the fact that he sorts himself out later on in life.

Female

Anya Jenkins - love her work ethic and the fact that she handles money well and knows how to budget, save and invest.

Betty Cooper - she’s got gumption, I’ll give her that and she is intelligent and hardworking.

Felicity Smoak - like Betty, she’s intelligent and has gumption.

Cassie from the Animorphs series - she’s compassionate and does try to understand people, which I like.She also has a lot of empathy.

Alison DiLaurentis - she is ruthless and strategic and highly intelligent, all of which I admire, even if her actions are truly sociopathic.

Top 5 Traits Of My Loved Characters I Dislike (again, this may not reach five but I’ll do my best)

Angel - his tendency to make decisions for others, his jealousy, the way he can completely cut off those he cares about.

James Ford - the way he lets his self-hatred affect others, his self-centredness, the way he can be deliberately cruel at times.

August Booth - he lies way too much, his self-hatred, his selfishness.

Neal Cassidy ………….. nope, I love Neal too much, can’t think of any traits I dislike.

Charles Gunn - the way he diminishes himself for others.

Female

Prue Halliwell - that damn pride, her self-righteousness, her judgmental streak.

Juliet Burke ……………. nope, as with Neal, love her way too much to dislike anything about her.

Lana Lang - her Mary Sue traits (this lies more on the writing of her character than her), her tendency to project her own feelings onto others.

Lilah Morgan - well, she’s an evil bitch, but you’re supposed to hate her for that, so I more hate her actions than her herself, such as when she gives Cordy the visions which almost kill her or when she sends people to drill into Lorn’s head.

Jo March - her lack of propriety at times, her judgemental streak, her refusal to adhere to convention (at times)

Top 5 Ways My Disliked Characters Contributed To The Main Storyline That I’m Fine With (I am running out of steam and not sure if I can come up with 5 males and 5 females, so gonna combine them for this last one and again might not make it to Top 5)

Alison DiLaurentis - I like her as a villain, her murder kicks off the whole series which worked well, and I liked that she works as a foil for all the girls, in particular Hanna and Mona.

Spike - love him as a villain in Season 2, love that he works as a foil for Angel in AtS Season 5, liked him stirring things up in Lovers Walk in Season 3.

Regina Mills - love her as a villain, love her as the Curse Caster, liked her dynamic with Emma, liked her as a foil for Snow and Emma.

……. I actually might be out, as usually when I hate a character it’s because of the way in which they negatively impact the storyline.

hello! I saw your recent posts and thought, I've read an article on that ever! "But Why Can't I Wear A Hipster Headdress?" by Adrienne Keene brings up some specific points for a specific example of cultural appropriation. I'm not sure I grok all of them, but I do get the idea of people who survived recent cultural (and other) genocide being frustrated by religious and cultural artifacts used for profit when bans on some of their religious practices were lifted in living memory.

It’s not wrong to wear a pope hat and a bikini, or a Sikh turban because it’s cute. No one is obligated to obey other people’s religious traditions.

But yeah, it’s pretty disrespectful and is a good reason for other people to dislike you or to reprimand you. Probably a lot of people who do things like this don’t even realize that they’re being disrespectful or how sad/disrespected this makes other people feel, and it’s good to tell them about it.

What a clever rhetorical move. The author dismisses the statement that they also benefit from American colonialism by bringing up something completely unrelated.

Whether the author involuntarily benefits from a history of American colonialism or not is irrelevant to the piece, but acknowledging this would also require acknowledging that everyone else’s involuntary benefiting is also irrelevant.

Anyway, the last part is just reiterating the same points as before: that wearing these shitty approximations of headdresses feeds into continuing power dynamics that are rooted in a history of colonialism.

I have to admit when I read this my eyes nearly rolled out of my head. This is the kind of false equivalence that makes the concept of cultural appropriation such a convoluted, overreaching mess.

To my (limited) knowledge, kabuki is just a kind of traditional Japanese theatre without an especial spiritual or cultural Significance. It’s not actually disrespectful of Japanese culture to wear kabuki makeup and the average Japanese person is not going to be offended at it.

Morally speaking, you shouldn’t wear it to encourage stereotypes of Japanese people, or while acting like a stereotype. But just wearing kabuki makeup is neither morally wrong nor antisocial.

“I’m Better”: Missy’s Black Girl Game of Thrones Survival Mantra

Missy Elliot released her video for her new single “I’m Better” two weeks ago, and while it may have over 9 million views on YouTube, folks have basically been silent about the visual. How, in the year 2017 are we still not giving Missy Elliot her props for these unparalleled, incomparable videos!?!!? In this time of presidential terrorism, political activism, and Game of Thrones – don’t worry, it will make sense later – I had to post my analysis of what I see as Missy’s mantra for Black girl survival.

The video starts with Missy front and center with a platoon of baddies with riot helmets on. The beat drops and is almost as looming as the Black girls in riot helmets, lighting up in tune. This imagery is so piercing. Riot helmets are worn when the cops are ready for battle with large groups of people. Often accompanied by bullet proof vests, shields, guns, and batons, we have seen these helmets much to frequently in the past few years as law enforcement interfaced with Black, Brown, and Indigenous political protesters resisting oppression and affirming their lives. This opening scene of “I’m Better” flips the scene. Black girls are ready for war but instead of full riot gear, you get cutoff sweatshirts and thick thighs. Thighs that remind you simultaneously that Black girls show up ready for war every day without riot gear, donning nothing but their beautiful skin, and of the way Black girls are seen as dangerous. Yet and still, we lit! The light in this opening scene comes mostly from the luminance of the riot helmets and we see only what Black girl lit-ness allows us to see. The entire time, Missy is in the center like a super saiyan, hittin’ every step along with the platoon of baddies.

In comes Lamb, the rapper on the hook that might not be too familiar to you, but whose production work I KNOW you’ve heard. From Beyonce’s “Countdown” to Jazmine Sullivan’s “Need U Bad”, Lamb has had several grammy noms as a producer. Much thanks to his mom, who gave him an MPC as a gift and he’s been making hits since. He’s also not new to working with Missy. What I find interesting about him being on the hook to Missy’s mantra for Black girl survival is that he is obviously here for Black girls musically. This is also his rap debut, meaning buzz around him won’t really outshine the Black girl survival in this video – no shade intended. He is merely the voice amplifying the Black girl lituation –  using his male privilege exactly how privilege should be used! He gives us Missy’s litany for survival:

“Imma start it from the bottom/ Show you how to flip a dollar/ I got food in my dining room/ I’m better, I’m better, I’m better”

And before he can finish the hook we cut to a scene of four Black girls – yall ready for this – HANGING and DANCING! That’s right! These four dancers are hanging from a harness, but on most cuts in the video they look as if they are lynched from red cloths, their hair tied up like trees atop their head. 

I have to admit, here is where I first started screaming “Fuck it up MISSY!” at my screen. Missy Elliott had Black girls, hanging, but surviving. The four of them showing survival in a way black girls always have – dancing their asses off! While the scene is an eerie reminder that Black women too were lynched in America, it also shows a resistance and refusal to die. With Lamb’s “I’m better, I’m better, I’m better” being chanted in the background, you cant help but think about all the hardships Black women have survived, and are continuing to heal from. ‘Better’ also makes the healing active and ongoing – it implies that better is a process composed of all the little moments we heal. The hook continues:

“ It's another day, another chance / I wake up, I wanna dance / So as long as I got my friends.../I'm better, I'm better, I'm better”

Okay yall, here’s where I become the nerdiest Black girl millennial of all time: I legit think Missy is making Game of Thrones references in the rest of the video. I know, I know… you’re probably thinking “get the fuck outta here!” But is it so hard to believe that Missy might be one of the millions of viewers of the HBO hit? I think not! Allow me to pull the receipts…

First, Missy pops up with the feathered cloak lookin’ reeeeal Jon Snow. If you are unfamiliar with Game of Thrones (Imma need you to binge it before the new season!), Jon Snow is the outcast son of high born family who is always being tested, underestimated, and attacked. As Missy stood there like she was guarding the realm from White walkers, I couldn’t help but think ‘This would be Jon Snow if he were a Black girl’. White patriarchal supremacy is always reminding Black girls that they are not considered a source of knowledge, value, or praxis – and if anyone can relate to being told “you know nothing”, its Jon Snow! Then Missy hits us with a line a line about Mexico: “He say I’m pretty, I’m pretty you must be from Brazil you must be from Mexico”. Not only can this line be read as solidarity with Mexican femmes, but also pulls us to focus on Mexico positively at this moment when the federal government of the US is trying to build a wall along the Mexican-US border. Missy is Jon Snow standing on the wall and while she’s cloaked in her black defending home turf – Black girls – she also stands in solidarity with those on the ‘other side of the wall’ like Jon does with the Free folk [insert Tormund shoutout here].

The Black girl survival and Game of Thrones themes don’t stop there! After some fire choreography, the video moves underwater – with each baddie from the platoon falling into deep water alone, only to find each other and Lamb at the bottom of the pool. But something has changed about the platoon: they are White Walkers now!!! Okay, let me attempt to do this without any spoilers… The Black girls ‘drown’ in the scene transition, but we know from the second dance sequence that Black girls will survive! They hit right back into choreo, only now they are dressed in all white with ice blue eyes and white hair. White Walkers!!!!

North of the Wall in Westeros, the White Walkers are the ancient race, birthed from magic. At some point in history the White Walkers break free of being controlled by the magic that created them, making them the most powerful crew in all of Westeros because they (for the most part) cannot die. Folks of Westeros built a 700 foot ice wall to keep them out, and they still slaying (literally). Missy turned every Black girl in her platoon into a White walker! Black girls are magic, hashtags on any social media site will tell you that! The continuous nods to the wall are so telling in our current political moment too – build it all you want 45th, but you will not divide us…winter is coming for that ass! Missy leads her crew of White Walkers in baddie Black girl Night King fashion.

Rocking her “Save the Humans” jacket (because who else would need to be saved if the army of White Walkers was coming…or while the 45th president of the United States is in office), Missy continues to serve us choreography and even has the baddie platoon do a routine on Pilates balls!!! Yall… PILATES BALLS! I can barely sit on one without falling off, much less hit a solid 2 minutes of choreography. Missy harmonizes over the beat:

“He watching my body like he watching Scandal / But I’m just here for my girls”

The scandal line is such a smart double entendre that I had to make the Jaz face at that bar. The obvious read is he’s looking at her the way the majority of us look at our televisions on Thursday nights as Olivia Pope collects our edges. Another read is the hyper-surveillance of Black girls, constantly watched as if they are scandalous simply for being who they are. As the ‘drowned’ dance routine continues, Black girls not only survive by dancing under water, they also swim around overhead staying afloat in deep waters.

Missy’s “I’m Better” reminds Black girls on both sides of ‘the wall’ that we are better every day we resist and transform a world that loves us in theory and hates us in practice. She reminds us of the importance of collective healing as self-care through the visual for the song, and also to appreciate the little things we so often overlook – like having food on our tables or being able to swim. So maybe I am the only one who saw the GoT references, but Missy Misdemeanor Elliott still has me wanting fanfiction in which Jon Snow is replaced by a Black girl!

Hillary Clinton’s UFO investigation plans unlikely to achieve liftoff, experts say

The Democratic frontrunner has said she would look into alleged spottings as president but there may not be much to investigate

Hillary Clinton is entering uncharted territory in this presidential election.

If she wins the White House, she would become the first female president, the first spouse of a former president to hold the office herself, and, possibly, the first president to have devoted time on the campaign trail to discussing UFOs.

There are enough stories out there that I dont think everybody is just sitting in their kitchen, making them up, Clinton said in a radio interview in April.

A month earlier, she had appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show, correcting Kimmels use of UFO to UAP unidentified aerial phenomena. When Kimmel reminded Clinton that her husband, Bill, had looked for information while president and found nothing, she was defiant.

Well, Im gonna do it again, Clinton said.

The pledges she also told the told the Conway Daily Sun that she would get to the bottom of whether the government has tucked away information on aliens are exciting UFO enthusiasts.

But they are puzzling some experts on the subject.

Im not quite sure what she thinks there is out there, said Nick Pope, an author and journalist who used to investigate UFOs for the British governments ministry of defence.

Pope ran the British governments UFO project from 1991 to 1994 (the investigation unit was wound up in 2009). But Americas own dedicated UFO research effort, called Project Blue Book, ended in 1969, Pope said.

Clintons embrace of the UFO discussion has been credited to her campaign chairman, John Podesta. The New York Times reported that he ran an X-Files fan club while he worked under Bill Clinton in the White House, and wrote in a foreword for a book on UFOs that it was time to pull back the curtain on the subject.

Podesta was a counsellor to Barack Obama until February 2015. Upon leaving the White House, he lamented that no new information on UFOs had been released.

Finally, my biggest failure of 2014: once again not securing the disclosure of the UFO files, Podesta tweeted.

But Pope said there werent actually any UFO files. Since Project Blue Book ended, the US has not had a formal unit investigating UFOs. And the files from Blue Book are already available in the national archives.

Podestas statements, like Clintons statements, he said, imply something like in the Raiders of the Lost Ark movie, some kind of government warehouse where theres something above and beyond the old Blue Book files.

And as far as I know, he added, there isnt.

Pope said that there may have been ad hoc investigations done when pilots saw something unusual in the sky, but they were not part of a formally constituted research effort.

Ted Roe is the executive director of the National Aviation Reporting Center on Anomalous Phenomena (Narcap), an independent body that collects reports from pilots and radar operators on unidentified aerial phenomena, the term apparently preferred by Clinton. Roe suspects the government may not be telling us everything it knows.

He recalled that Leslie Kean, a journalist who concentrates on UFOs, made a freedom of information request to the government regarding an incident in Pennsylvania. The government refused, and a lawsuit ensued. The government lost and was ordered to provide the files and documents relating to the Pennsylvania incident.

Those documents were not forthcoming. She never did get them, Roe said. They claim theyre lost. So there may well be files that we dont know about.

But if there are questions over what Clinton expects to be able to release, there are also questions as to why she would be discussing UFOs at all.

I just cant understand what shes playing at, Pope said.

I cant see theres any votes in it. Its not as if theres some kind of swing vote middle ground thats desperately keen on this issue.

And its an absolute gift to Donald Trump, because you can almost see him up at that podium saying: Im committed to American jobs for American workers and reinvigorating the economy and my opponent seems to be more interested in space aliens.

Clintons interest in UFOs during an election cycle has raised the issue high enough that Barack Obamas press secretary had to field questions on Area 51, the secretive Nevada air base, on Wednesday. Josh Earnest said he was not aware of any plans the president has to make public any information about this.

Area 51 has become synonymous with UFOs and extraterrestrials among some enthusiasts. If there were UFO files, they would likely have information on anything stored in the base, and some conspiracy theories suggest the site contains parts of an alien vessel. Others suggest there could be actual alien remains.

Pope was not optimistic.

I would love there to be aliens, he said. The world would be a much more interesting place if we did have a spaceship in a hangar.

But A, without wanting to sound too arrogant, I hope that I would have heard about it through having security clearance and need to know.

And B, yes, I know we can keep some secrets but in these days of whistleblowers and Wikileaks and Snowden and Manning and Assange, all of that, youd think there would have been something tangible by now.

Roe, who has spent the last 16 years working with Narcap, patiently logging thousands of reports on unidentified aerial phenomena, is sceptical that any documents on alien life will be released any time soon. He said Clintons quest for information was likely doomed.

I dont know that a president is even in the need to know on certain aspects of security. This might be one of those subjects, he said. She may not ever know about this stuff or ever get the access to it.

And even if Clinton did come across evidence of extraterrestrial life, Roe warned that the knowledge would come with a heavy burden.

This is some serious, serious stuff and a lot of our best minds, like Stephen Hawking, have suggested that any exposure to an extraterrestrial civilisation would be catastrophic, he said.

It could be an extinction-level event.

This is i think the case. Misuse of authority. Due pocess. Equal protection. They hired people because they were willing to fuck with me. They were compelled to do it. As a condition of employment. I filed a lawsuit against these people. And, i think they lost. It doesnt matter. They are too powerful. They own the police. They cant admit that what they have doing to me was and is wrong. They have constructed this fantasyland where they are helping me, with some lie about an addiction to something. They say im addicted to alcohol and cocaine and other drugs. Im also a pedophile and a terrorist and an arsonist, the list is long. These lies have been used as an excuse to mobilize against me. To recruit people against me. Update 2019 - inducements

Basis of the claim - the original complaint mentioned the 1983 - due process and equal protection claims. I also plead a rico charge under a civil liability theory. In order to make this thing happen, the defs have recruited participants with the promise of a job, a promotion, overtime hours, or other such inducements. Conversely, those refusing to participate, or those that had been involved, but had decided to stop or speak out against the defs, have faced penalties in wages, hours etc. In particular, in order for this to continue, defs have directed these specific retaliatory measures toward witnesses for the government, the plaintiff, me, as well as those that might even consider such a position. The evidence for this is without question. These individuals have faced tangible losses in income, threatened with long term unemployment in their chosen field and have also endured significant social and peer pressure as well. Those defs that are employed in intelligence, either as analysts or within collection or any number of different technical specialties, were pressured to participate in, what was knowingly illegal activity, fucking with me, ie. identity theft, aggravated battery etc. They were forced to use gov authority to fuck with me. The defs witheld hiring people that wouldnt participate. This could itself form another rico type allegation under a theft of services legal theory. Its not all fun and games. Its misuse of gov legal authority. It specifically benefits the defs in that it is also a demonstration of power. As such, it can be used to recruit in the future and prevent opposition on any number of different fronts. The misuse of authority, in my case, gets them more power. The baines thing and the nixon thing both are directed by elements within the group of defendants that are in direct political opposition to themselves. I’ve been staying at kennedy house and working day labor after the last election when Johnny says he getting out on probation but he needs a California address before they let him out on probation. I don’t have near enough to get my own place and Johnny says I can use his account, which had, I think, a little less than two thousand dollars in it. I find the place on broadway, in the gaslamp, very cheap. By the time I pay first and last months rent and security deposit, I’ve taken out all but a couple hundred dollars. He’s pretty upset about this at the time. Next year’s budget already “is looking grim also,” he said.Five deputies are affected by the change.*Lt. Brian Bressan and deputies*Jason Boesdorfer andKenny Karhliker make up the sheriff’s Drug Investigative Response Team, while deputies Matt Lorton and Jim Tapscott, the sheriff’s warrant team, are on loan to the U.S. Marshals’ fugitive task force. All five will be back on the street effective July 20. The sheriff’s office previously disbanded its crime prevention unit as part of its budget-cutting efforts. Williamson said he was asked to trim $850,000 from his budget because of the county’s “severe financial constraints.” He called the warrant and drug teams “two of the most successful units we’ve had” and said disbanding them was one of the hardest decisions he’s had to make in his 15 years as sheriff. However, Williamson said, he is doing everything possible to avoid layoffs. He also expressed concern that crime could escalate as a result of the cuts. The office will have to react more to crime now, rather than being able to take preventive steps. “We are getting back to the basics of what a sheriff’s department is supposed to do,” he said. The sheriff’s warrant team was formed in July 2000 and supplied two deputies to the U.S. Marshals’ fugitive task force. Since the warrant team was formed, more than 4,900 fugitives have been captured, Williamson said. The team’s disbanding means the sheriff’s office no longer will have representatives on the fugitive task force. The DIRT team was formed in July 2004 in response to what was at the time a growing methamphetamine problem in Sangamon County. The team made numerous meth-related arrests in its first two years, which Williamson said drastically curbed the local meth industry. The DIRT team has made about 1,700 drug-related arrests since its inception.

trying to list info in other places. Ive started posting notes on these new sites - listed below. The monthly pages are listed up til jul of 2018. Note esp that the addr on the top of each monthly google sites page - is used as a folder for audio recordings of - voice recorder - i have been recording events, pain and license plates in these notes and have posted those notes to the internet via this site - see voicerecorder and other sites. ... I have been writing about a large group of people making my life miserable. It is the worst kept secret in america. I have paper notes written from about 15 yrs ago and the google site itself is around 10 yrs old. it is thousands of pages in text and includes audio notes and images as well as some video which is listed on youtube. there are slightly more than 400 or so different sites and the most recent sites are at monthly site addresses, ie may2019. the specific site of the most recent site is at https://sites.google.com/site/dwdelaney/may2019 and the first site is at https://sites.google.com/site/dwdelaney/ . This is i think the case. Misuse of authority. Due pocess. Equal protection. They hired people because they were willing to fuck with me. They were compelled to do it. As a condition of employment. I filed a lawsuit against these people. And, i think they lost. It doesnt matter. They are too powerful. They own the police. They cant admit that what they have doing to me was and is wrong. They have constructed this fantasyland where they are helping me, with some lie about an addiction to something. They say im addicted to alcohol and cocaine and other drugs. Im also a pedophile and a terrorist and an arsonist, the list is long. These lies have been used as an excuse to mobilize against me. To recruit people against me. Basis of the claim - the original complaint mentioned the 1983 - due process and equal protection claims. I also plead a rico charge under a civil liability theory. In order to make this thing happen, the defs have recruited participants with the promise of a job, a promotion, overtime hours, or other such inducements. Conversely, those refusing to participate, or those that had been involved, but had decided to stop or speak out against the defs, have faced penalties in wages, hours etc. In particular, in order for this to continue, defs have directed these specific retaliatory measures toward witnesses for the government, the plaintiff, me, as well as those that might even consider such a position. The evidence for this is without question. These individuals have faced tangible losses in income, threatened with long term unemployment in their chosen field and have also endured significant social and peer pressure as well. Those defs that are employed in intelligence, either as analysts or within collection or any number of different technical specialties, were pressured to participate in, what was knowingly illegal activity, fucking with me, ie. identity theft, aggravated battery etc. They were forced to use gov authority to fuck with me. The defs witheld hiring people that wouldnt participate. This could itself form another rico type allegation under a theft of services legal theory. Its not all fun and games. Its misuse of gov legal authority. It specifically benefits the defs in that it is also a demonstration of power. As such, it can be used to recruit in the future and prevent opposition on any number of different fronts. The misuse of authority, in my case, gets them more power. The baines thing and the nixon thing both are directed by elements within the group of defendants that are in direct political opposition to themselves. Afl-cio internship puts me in san diego, where only person I know is Delong. He is staying in an apartment where, I find out later, although not living there and rarely seen, the leaseholder is Pennell. I’m in san diego and Johnny comes out to san diego, where I find out he’s buying and selling cocaine. I tell him to stop and he ignores me. He gets busted. He goes to jail. I’ve been staying at kennedy house and working day labor after the last election when Johnny says he getting out on probation but he needs a California address before they let him out on probation. I don’t have near enough to get my own place and Johnny says I can use his account, which had, I think, a little less than two thousand dollars in it. I find the place on broadway, in the gaslamp, very cheap. By the time I pay first and last months rent and security deposit, I’ve taken out all but a couple hundred dollars. He’s pretty upset about this at the time. Next year’s budget already “is looking grim also,” he said.Five deputies are affected by the change.*Lt. Brian Bressan and deputies*Jason Boesdorfer andKenny Karhliker make up the sheriff’s Drug Investigative Response Team, while deputies Matt Lorton and Jim Tapscott, the sheriff’s warrant team, are on loan to the U.S. Marshals’ fugitive task force. All five will be back on the street effective July 20. The sheriff’s office previously disbanded its crime prevention unit as part of its budget-cutting efforts. Williamson said he was asked to trim $850,000 from his budget because of the county’s “severe financial constraints.” He called the warrant and drug teams “two of the most successful units we’ve had” and said disbanding them was one of the hardest decisions he’s had to make in his 15 years as sheriff. However, Williamson said, he is doing everything possible to avoid layoffs. He also expressed concern that crime could escalate as a result of the cuts. The office will have to react more to crime now, rather than being able to take preventive steps. “We are getting back to the basics of what a sheriff’s department is supposed to do,” he said. The sheriff’s warrant team was formed in July 2000 and supplied two deputies to the U.S. Marshals’ fugitive task force. Since the warrant team was formed, more than 4,900 fugitives have been captured, Williamson said. The team’s disbanding means the sheriff’s office no longer will have representatives on the fugitive task force. The DIRT team was formed in July 2004 in response to what was at the time a growing methamphetamine problem in Sangamon County. The team made numerous meth-related arrests in its first two years, which Williamson said drastically curbed the local meth industry. The DIRT team has made about 1,700 drug-related arrests since its inception.

Will the spread of fake news improve or get worse?

The spread of fake news  in todays media, has an huge impact on the daily lives of people. With the constant amount of fake stories popping up on the internet, the proliferation of it is increasing at this point. Topics such as politics serve as great tools for fake news. The presence of fake news on social media speaks to the personals of the users and what they are drawn to. As far as I'm concerned the future of fake news will involve it continuing and getting worse with the way people take in information.  

With the advancement of technology there has been a lot of fake news put out there. it seems that with outlets like twitter, fake news reaches more people than the truth does. Researchers have looked upon something called the “rumor cascades” where a rumor beginning on twitter about  a certain topic  gets constantly retweeted. A lot of researchers fact check some of the tweets to see if these are true stories that are spreading. a study showed that it is 70 percent  more likely for fake news to travel than true stories(niemanlab.org). It is found that false news runs deeper in all types of information throughout the news. Political news tends to spread the most false news than any category, whether it be Terrorism, urban legends, attacks, science, or disasters.Researchers found out that the key to false news spreading is the idea that real people are the cause of it and bots are not.(Motherjones.com). It is usually an ordinary person that repost the false information and with the growth of social media, millions upon millions people receive fake rumors. There is an example of how Russians and different people on the internet use it as a place to put out false narratives on political views and figures. 

One example of false news and how it works, is the past presidential election with Donald Trump. In 2016 many messages and rumors were going back and forth on Facebook and social media about the election. There were some fabricated stories published on thought to be credible sites. some of the stories read things like Hilary Clinton selling weapons to Isis or scoops like Pope Francis endorsing trump. Those headlines ended up going viral on social media in the final days of the election (PSMG.COM). Trump has a big following on twitter and with his election he has been referring to fake news  a lot and it seems like anything he disagrees with he labels fake news. It is concerning on how trump can use social media to promote himself and tap into the emotions and circumstances of people and possibly manipulate them. In this case the promotion of fake news helped him win. 

Another specific example of how fake news can have a deep impact on people is the constant sharing of Articles that are scary: For example the ebola crisis in 2014. A lot of headlines were publish to put fear in the Everyday American.Such articles as “Texas Town Quarantined After Family Of Five Test Positive For The Ebola Virus” came with a feel of a

uthencity  because of short videos attached and the authors. When everything all of a sudden died down it was found that it was only one death found in the USA during the entire time people were worried. (PBS.ORG). The Constant spread of news such as the ebola virus displays how Americans can get startled over any caption they read that seems to be true, but its not. This state of shock and fear causes Americans to continue to share this information. 

One impact of Fake news is it will amplify Digital distrust which Pew Research describes as emotions such as fear and shock, and anger interfering with the online use and causing divisions and doubts. The growth of technology and social media has made it to where one stamens can be shared and get almost everyone online in fear. Fake news is expected to spread more in the future because of the different enhancements in the technology world such as video and audio manipulation. Fake news will harm the outputs of people on the internet and cause a divide in views even more. 

Pew researchers asked the question will the environment of information improve. “51 % of the population said that it will not improve. The people who had this opinion mostly thought that the basic human instincts such as the quest for power and success will make the information proliferated worse in the next decade. This article stated “They predicted a future information landscape in which fake information crowds out reliable information. Some even foresaw a world in which widespread information scams and mass manipulation cause broad swathes of public to simply give up on being informed participants in civic life (website). This means that the amount of fake news will eventually be too much for people to handle and detect. 

There are already examples on the internet of photoshopped photos and video and audio manipulation. One example is the lip sync of Barack Obama saying a speech. these changes are made by artificial intelligence and computer graphics. There is a software being developed at Stanford university where a person can put words in a public figure’s mouth in real time. With this face 2 face software it is easy for someone to sound like figures like trump and look like them. The article “ The future of fake news: don't believe everything you read, see or hear”, states “These morphing technologies aren’t yet perfect. The facial expressions in the videos can seem a little distorted or unnatural and the voices can sound a little robotic….But given time, they will be able to faithfully recreate the sound or appearance of a person – to the point where it might be very difficult for humans to detect the fraud” (website). Being that it will be hard for people to detect what is real, the average human being online is going to get into a panic and began riffing about the videos they have seen. 

I have already began seeing how fake news can cause a big deal on social media amongst different people and i just see it continuing. For example a post can be shared about someone’s favorite athlete and everyone is getting emotional about it and arguing. An example of this is I've seen people get in serious beefs about whether Lebron James is going to join Golden state warriors just because a source on the internet said he was talking to the team. When people heard about this it was automatically the talk on Facebook and people started to run with it and get emotional about the topic. 

These changes can affect something like my field which is film making because fake stories can help sell a movie or stop people from supporting it. In a field where a person is trying to sell something, sometimes fake news can help because of the constant attention put on the product. In America it seems that Fake news continues to try to bash one side and promote another. I think in this society people will continue to try to promote fake news to be on top. 

The impact of Fake news is important to me and my family because it is beginning to shape how the country is reacting. people are acting off of emotions from fake news and presidents who run the country are basing their whole campaign off of the idea of “fake news”.Fake news has only highlighted the different aspects of the everyday user and will continue to bring out the strong emotion characteristics of people.
