This is true even if you are genuinely friends with your boss outside work. People who are in management positions are usually required to record notes of their interactions with their employees and can get penalized for not adding relevant disclosures to your file.
If it isn't required to receive accommodations then please, please do not mention it on the clock. Your nice boss does not want to have to choose between outing your personal information to their boss and lying about you to their boss.
ETA: At a good company with a good boss you may be able to request that any sensitive personal information (such as disability and family status) be removed from your file if it's in there so if you've accidentally disclosed something it's not necessarily a huge deal. Likewise, if you accidentally tell your boss something you can do a "please pretend I didn't say that I am not consenting to that being recorded" and hope they comply.
Hey here is your friendly reminder to not tell your nice boss stuff.
I’m at the executive management level for my very small company and I have 4 people who report directly to me. I am a nice boss. I’m friendly with my employees, I treat them like professional adults, I actively try to create a positive work environment, and I mentor them and make sure they’re advancing in their careers. I do my best to shield them from the rest of management doing stupid shit. My employees like working for me.
The other day one of my employees came to ask if she could change her hours on Mondays. I said yes immediately because it’s helpful for me to know when she’s here and when she’s not, but as long as she gets her work done I don’t care when and where she does it. She then proceeded to tell me that it was so she could attend therapy and like … I will never use this information but … as a general rule don’t fucking do that.
Do not tell your employer shit about your mental or physical health except for the bare minimum needed to request a reasonable accommodation. Even your nice boss can fire you, even your nice boss can unfairly change your working conditions, and even your nice boss at some point is probably going to face pressure from their superiors.
I’m not saying don’t trust your boss with anything ever. I’m just saying that anytime you are in the workplace you need to keep your private information private. You can still have a good relationship with your boss. Your workplace can still be pleasant. But if it ever feels like disclosing private information is required in order to have a good relationship with your boss, please see that as a red flag.

"We need to find you a wife."
There you go - a sentence that Jake has been waiting to hear from his dad.
Jake was born with a golden spoon in his mouth. Despite being wealthy, he chose to live just like the others. He would prefer to do a lot of things by himself. He finds satisfaction in it.
Sim family is known to have one of the largest businesses in Asia and the examples for others. So, when Jake has finally reached 'the age', it's natural to expect him to become the next successor.
Jake has an older brother. However, he chose to venture into different field, leaving Jake as his dad's only hope to take over the company.
But, in order for his dad to grant the status to Jake, he has to get married. It was his dad's main condition.
His dad had always been living with the principle of behind every successful man, there is his wife. According to his dad, being married motivates him to be better both personally and career-wise so that he can provide more for his wife and his children.
On the contrary, Jake believes in independency. No, it's not that he hates love or relationship. In fact, he was in a relationship back then. Unfortunately, things happened, and they drifted away from each other. Nobody really knows about it and Jake wished to keep it that way.
"Is it really necessary, dad," he asked his dad.
"Of course. Getting married and loving your wife with all your heart will help you in gaining people's trust better - rather than be single. You will appear more... capable and trustworthy."
"But-"
Just as Jake was about to say something, his dad cut him off by placing a file on the coffee table between both of them.
"This is Kim's eldest daughter. I heard that she graduated from fashion designing with good result. Personally, I think that she is a perfect woman to be your wife."
Jake looks at the file and at his dad with a raised brow.
"Really? A blind date?"
Mr. Sim just shrugs his shoulder. "Well, it's not like you will ever introduce anyone to me, right?"
Jake leans his back against the couch and let out a deep sigh. God, one thing he doesn't like is going on a blind date which is arranged by others without his consent.
He don't like it when people tell him to do stuff that he doesn't want to do. It makes him feel like he is being force to do things. Last thing he wants is to hurt an innocent woman.
As Jake is in deep thought, there's a knock coming from outside Mr. Sim's office.
"Come in," his dad said.
You turn the knob and enter the room with a tray of coffee cups in your hand. You bow your head slightly at both Jake and Mr. Sim before walking towards the table and place the cups on it.
"Is there anything else I can do for you, Mr. Sim?"
Jake's dad shakes his head at you. "That's all for now. Thank you, Ms. Y/LN."
You bow your head for the second time before walking away from both of them. But just as you were about to turn the knob, Jake calls out your name.
"Ms. Y/LN."
You turn your head to him.
"Yes?"
Jake flashes a small smile to you.
"Can you come here for a while, please?"
Your head tilts slightly but still turning your heels around and walk towards Jake.
"Yes, Mr. Sim. May I help you?"
A few seconds passed by before Jake looks up at you with a wider smile. He then turns to his dad.
"Dad, actually, I'm planning to marry Ms. Y/LN."
"WHAT?!"
Both you and his dad said in unison. As if on cue, both of you also look at each other with eyes widened.
"I-"
"Y/n..."
Jake cut you off by calling your name softly, making you turn to him with the same widened eyes.
"I'm sorry I had to propose to you this way when I already had plan to surprised you. I promise I'll make it up to you, okay."
You and Jake are not really strangers. Both of you went to the same high school back then and reunited when you first entered the company as Mr. Sim's - his dad's - secretary.
The difference is that both of you barely talk to each other. You only know each other's name, and that's it. So, when Jake suddenly confessed to his dad that he wants to marry you, it makes you dumbstruck.
"I never knew you and Jake are dating, Ms. Y/LN."
You turn your head to Mr. Sim and open your mouth to say something. But nothing seems to come out.
"I asked her to keep it private since it had only been a few months since we got together."
Jake told another lie. You turn to Jake to say something. But, before you can do anything, he reaches out to hold your hand and flashing a soft smile to you.
"But every time I'm with her, I felt nothing but love, warmth, and comfort. That's how I know she's the one for me."
God, if you didn't know any better, you would have said that he's telling the truth. Anyone would coo at how adorable Jake is despite he is telling a lie. That is how good all of this is.
To tell the truth, you have always found Jake attractive just like other girls. Although both of you have never talk to one another, you did observe him from time to time.
Just like any other schools, there will always be at least a heartthrob - and Jake happened to be one of it during high school along with his other two friends.
As much as you would like to mind your own business, you can't help your eyes to look at him from afar. Every time he's around his friends, he will always have that big happy smile that can melt any hearts around him.
You find it cute and adorable at the same time. But that was it. He was only your eye candy back in high school.
Yet, here you are, in his car as his out-of-nowhere fiancé.
After he - somehow - proposed to you in front of his dad, he asked for Mr. Sim's permission to bring you out for the day, saying that he wants to make it up to you.
Of course, being the loving understanding dad, he allowed it without knowing that it was all just a scam.
"Where are we going, Mr. Sim?" You asked.
"Somewhere other than the office." Jake gave a simple answer.
Just like that, both of you are back in the silence. You turn your head to look out the window as Jake continue to focus on his driving. As much you want to say something, you feel like it's best to give each other some space.
You don't know how long have passed by but the way the cityscape suddenly changed into beach view proved to you that Jake has brought you somewhere far. Probably an hour or two.
Jake slows down the speed as the car reaching to its destination. He pulled the hand brake and turn the gear into 'P'. He let out a deep sigh before unbuckling his seatbelt and open the door.
You watch as Jake exits the car and walk towards the sandy area. After a while, you decide to follow him. You open the door and walk towards the man, standing beside him.
You were about to speak when suddenly Jake cut you off.
"I'm sorry."
You just keep quiet, allowing Jake to continue his words.
"I'm sorry I pulled you into this mess. I dislike the idea of anyone forcing me to date, let alone get married."
"Then, why didn't you say so?"
Jake bites his lower lips. "I can't. I know I'm the only heir that my dad has left. If I didn't take over, God knows what will happen to the company."
You turn towards Jake. "Then, why me? Am I not being forced to get married with you?"
Jake's eyes soften at your words. You're right. He did force you to do something you don't want to when he himself hate when someone did that to him.
What a hypocrite.
"Y/n. I know we don't really know each other that much. But I need your help. Just this once. After I become the CEO, we will discuss the next step. Is that okay?"
You look into Jake's eyes. This is the first time in your whole life have you seen him looking so desperate. His demeanour used to be confident. It's almost as if he got everything under control.
But today, today is different. He looks like someone who is willing to do anything just so he could keep his title. Just the thought of it makes you scoff lightly.
"Okay, I will help you just this once. You owe me big time, Mr. Sim."
You held out your hand for Jake to shake.
"You won't be disappointed, Ms. Y/L/N."
Flashback:
Finally, lunch hour, students' favourite time of the day. As usual, Jake would spend his time with his best friends - Jay and Sunghoon.
"Should we go on a trip during summer?" Sunghoon asked.
"What about Jeju?"
"We've been there a lot of times, Jay," Jake said.
Jay poked his rice using the spoon as a pout formed on his face.
"But I like it there. The view is beautiful."
Jake and Sunghoon looked at each other before laughing together.
"You're so cute when you're sulking," the youngest among them teased.
As Jay and Sunghoon were having their normal banters, Jake's eyes fell upon a girl. A girl in her ponytail, eating her food with her friends around her. From time to time, she would engage with the conversation as well by joining them or simply laughed at her friend's joke.
Jake saw her for the first time when he was walking out the infirmary. He was not feeling well that day, so he decided to take a rest.
Coincidentally, she was walking towards the infirmary as well. She stopped on her track when she saw him.
"Are you okay," she asked.
Jake nodded his head at her. "I'm good."
She smiled softly at him. "That's a relief. Take a break when you need it. Don't push yourself too much. You deserve some break."
She walked away after conveying her message, leaving Jake at the hallway.
Ever since then, he would see her almost everywhere at school. Wherever he went to, she would be there as well. It was as if fate was trying to match them together.
"You're staring again," Jay said as he nudged Jake's shoulder.
"You should really just talk to her at this point."
Jake shook his head lightly. "No, I like it like this. It's better like this."
Sunghoon let out a sigh and Jay shrugged his shoulder before both of them continue eating their foods.
Jay, Sunghoon, and Jake had always been together ever since they were little. Yet, ever since Jake met her, it was as if a new side of Jake appeared right before their eyes. Surprisingly, it only appeared whenever the girl was around. Whenever you were around.
Jake claimed that it was him admiring someone. But to Jay and Sunghoon, it was definitely more than that.
—
“I never knew this day would come.”
You just smile at your dad’s words as you continue to eat your food with Jake beside you.
Two weeks after the so-called-proposal that Jake pulled in front of his dad, both of you decided to visit your parents to lay out the message. Well, technically you told Jake to meet your parents. If they approved of him, then you’re good to go.
“Thank you, uncle and auntie, for allowing me inside this beautiful house of yours.”
Your mom let out a soft laugh. “Our house is small compared to yours. It is our honour that you are willing to come to our house instead.”
True to your mom’s words, you were not born with golden spoon. Compared to Jake’s family, yours are more of in the middle class. Your family didn’t gain as much as Sim’s family, but it's already more than enough.
“How do you find the foods, Jake?”
Jake looks up to your mom and flashes her a happy grin.
So cute, just like a kid, you thought to yourself.
“It’s so delicious. It’s true what they said. No foods can ever be compared to a mother’s cooking.”
Everyone including you laugh at his words. You missed being in this environment. So warm, so full of love and affections. No, you don’t have bad blood with your family. You were just rarely home due to your work.
But now that you’re here, you aren’t going to miss a chance to spend more time with your family as much as you can.
As the night came, your dad and Jake decided to spend their time together at the backyard of your house, giving you a chance to spend time with your mom.
Your dad sips on the coffee that he made earlier.
“Why did you choose Y/n?”
Jake turns his head to look at the elder man beside him. With a small smile on his face, Jake lifts his head to the sky.
“Y/n is a nice woman. She cares for others a lot. She would do anything to make everyone around her happy. She will give her 100% towards something that matters to her.”
Jake lets out a soft sigh, almost dreamily.
“Before I know it, I want to be with her. I want to be there for her. I want to do things for her. I want to care for her. I want to protect her.”
Jake swallows his saliva, trying to maintain his composure in front of his soon-to-be father-in-law.
“So, you want to marry my daughter just because she is nice?”
Your dad’s question makes Jake look at him, who is already looking at Jake. Jake smile to himself before shaking his head.
“No, I did not ask for her hand simply because she is nice. I want to marry her because she makes me better as a human being. Everything seems smooth every time we are together. Before I know it, I can’t imagine myself with anyone but her. She is the only woman I want to have a future with. No one else, but y/n.”
Your dad considered his words carefully. He then put his hand on Jake’s shoulder.
“Y/n… she is our only child. She had always done things by herself. There are times where we would feel worried for her. Well, up until now, we still are. So, when she brought you back home, her mom and I felt better. At least we know that she won’t be alone forever.”
Jake just smiles at your dad’s words. Oh, how would he feel if he knew our marriage is only for a while, he thought.
“Thank you, Jake, for looking after our angel. She is everything to us. I hope you feel the same as well.”
Jake just nods his head at your dad’s words before both of them drink the coffee from their own cup.
Making you as his everything; will Jake be able to do that?

Flashback:
Jake had lost count on how many drinks he had tonight. As he tried to reach for another one, Jay hit his hand, making him groaned in pain.
“What the fuck is wrong with you, Jake? You looked like a mess.”
Jake just scoffed at Jay’s words. He looked up at his friends and gritted his teeth.
“Easy for you to say. You didn’t go through what I went through. It hurts. It fucking hurts.”
Sunghoon sigh for the nth times for the night. Both him and Jay had been trying to understand Jake's situation. But the only thing Jake revealed was that he broke up with his girlfriend. That was it. He didn’t say how nor why. No matter how many times they asked him, he kept his mouth shut.
“I really love her, guys. I don’t think I can live without her.”
Jay rubbed his forehead, trying to calm himself down from exploding to the drunken man. The words “he’s my friend” keep on chanting in his head. He was about to open his mouth, but Sunghoon cut him off.
“Die then.”
Jake looked up at his friend’s words. His eyes widened, surprised at the sudden reaction.
“The fuck did you just say to me?!”
Sunghoon shrugged his shoulder. “You said you can’t live without her. So, go on and die. It’s easy.”
Jake’s eyes that were filled with tears turned into anger. He stood up from his seat and grabbed Sunghoon’s collar, making everyone including Jay surprised.
“You think you are better than me?!”
Sunghoon held Jake’s hand with his before smirking at him.
“I am. I’m not the drunk one here.”
Jake’s hand turned into a fist. God, he hated Sunghoon at this moment. He fucking hates the guy in front of him. He was about to punch Sunghoon, but Jay managed to stop it by pushing his fist away and broke off his grip from Sunghoon’s collar.
“Enough! Both of you, out!”
They stared at each other angrily before walking out of the premise with Jay following behind.
Minutes have passed since they were sitting outside of a convenience store. Not long after, Jay walked out of the store with canned coffees and a water bottle in his hands. He gave one of the coffees to Sunghoon and the water bottle to Jake.
The three of them continued to stay in silence before Jake decided to break it first.
“Sorry. I shouldn’t lash out to you.”
Sunghoon pursued his lips. “I’m sorry too. It was immature of me trying to stir you up.”
Jay just looked at both of his friends with a smile. This is the friendship that the three always had. Countless of fights, countless of apologies. It’s hard sometimes, but this friendship is important to them, and they knew they need each other.
“I just… I don’t know if I can love other person the way I love her.”
Jay reached out to pat his friend’s back.
“You will bro. You will. Trust me.”
Jake just nodded his head, too tired to even say anything at this point. All he knew was that he loved his now ex-girlfriend with all his heart. He gave her everything that he could give. Time, presents, everything.
Yet, it still ended this way. Four years of relationship, ended just like that. Jake really thought that she would be his forever. Well, he thought wrong. Maybe it’s time for him to focus on himself. He had been focusing on others for too long. He deserved his own peaceful time.
“Ah, right. We heard that y/n got into your dad’s company as his secretary.”
Sunghoon’s words interrupted Jake from his own thoughts. Jake’s brows frowned at the sudden mention of your name.
“Yeah, why?”
Jay who was silent suddenly sat up straight on his chair and looked at Jake.
“Really?! Y/n is working with your dad? The y/n?”
Jake nodded his head slowly.
“Yeah. It’s almost a month now if I’m not mistaken.”
Jay let out a relief sigh before patting Jake’s shoulder.
“That’s nice. You get to work with the one you admired before.”
Right. You were the woman that he admired up until the end of high school. After both of you graduated, you and Jake parted ways, following your own dream. It’s not like both of you had special connections anyway. The interactions that you had with him were not enough for both of you to be considered as a friend.
But now that Jay and Sunghoon mentioned about it, Jake was reminded of the first day you stepped into the company.
He would never admit in front of his friends that he actually got excited when he saw you walking into the office. It had been so long since he last saw you.
You looked more mature than when you were in high school. The outfit that you had on was professional, yet it made you look beautiful. As beautiful as Jake remembered.
You might slowly lose your teenage features, but you still managed to turn Jake’s head effortlessly – just like when both of you were in high school.
—
Three months after the proposal and a day after the wedding ceremony, you found yourself entering an unfamiliar house – Jake’s house. It's official. You are now Mrs. Sim Y/n.
You look around the living room. You did not expect his house to look neat and cozy at the same time. With all the furniture being white in colour, it made the interior looks more spacious than it already is.
You never thought of him as a guy who would pay much attention to the interior. He looked like the type of guy that might hire any designer and let them do their magic.
"Having fun?"
You whip your head to the voice behind you. There he is, standing in all his glory, your - now - husband.
"You have good eyes."
Your compliment makes Jake's lips curl up into a smile. A smile that you used to see since high school.
"Thanks."
He walks towards you. Before you could do anything, his hand reaches for yours and he bring it up to his face, enough to look at the ring on your finger.
He looks at how it sparkles with a small smile before kissing it softly, a small gasp escapes your lips but not enough to reach Jake's ears.
“Thank you for marrying me, y/n,” he said sincerely.
Your heart soften at his words. Unconsciously, you rub his hand that is holding yours since earlier.
“It’s nothing. Besides, it will only be for a while, right?”
Jake just hums softly at your words. Of course, he didn’t forget about it. Heck, he was the one who came up with all of these. Contract marriage – and it will last up until he got his title as the CEO.
"Just so you know y/n, although it is only for a while, I will still perform my duty as your husband until the end of it."
You look into Jake's eyes, trying to see if there is any hidden agenda. But all you can see is honesty and sincerity.
Jake is known as a man of his words. He is not someone who would turn away from his promise, let alone lying. Heck, he doesn't even know how to lie.
You've seen his attempts to lie during high school and it always ended with him stuttering and his cheeks slowly turning crimson. His lips jutted out into a cute pout, resembling a puppy sulking.
Everyone was telling you that ‘you're so lucky to have him as your husband’, not knowing that this marriage has its own expiry date. Sooner or later, both of you will put this into an end. You know that.
And yet, you can't help but feel a little tug on your heart when Jake said the last few words.
Refused to let your emotion to get the best of you, you flash him a small smile.
"I will do my best as Mrs. Sim as well while it last."
Ever since then, Jake and you have done nothing but keep your words.
Every morning before going to work, you would prepare him breakfast and eat together with him. Then, both of you would go to the office together. When both of you are done with your job, he would wait for you in the car to go back home together.
After you’re done with your shower, you would prepare dinner while waiting for Jake to finish washing up. Then, both of you would sit together and have dinner while having a small talk in between.
During the weekends, Jake will ask you if you have any plans. Sometimes you would tell him that you want to go out, sometimes you just want to stay at home.
If you chose to go out, he would go with you, spending his time and money for you the entire day. Not gonna lie, you've made countless attempts to pay for yourself. But Jake will always be two steps ahead from you. Guess it's the perks of marrying the Sim Jaeyun.
If you decided to stay at home, he would be there as well. Sometimes he would help you cooking – or more like purposely disturbing you. When you are reading a book, he would join you with cup of teas in hand.
Before you know it, you and Jake have become closer and more comfortable with each other. What used to be only standing side-by-side turns into walking together while holding hands. During grocery shopping, he would stand behind you and push the trolley together with you in front of him while walking through aisle by aisle. When you are watching a movie in the living room, he would lay his head on your lap and ask for your attention – just like a puppy would.
Everyone with eyes is envious of your relationship. Both of you totally looks like a happy couple. It’s as if the world belongs to both of you, and only to both of you.
Honestly, you would say the same thing to yourself as well. Jake had been nothing but a loving caring husband. He takes good care of you, always be there for you. He’s really the man of his words.
However, there are times where he can be an annoying ass. Such as right now.
You are putting on your make up to go out with him and he’s just… there, staring at you since God knows when. It was something that he would do every single time you’re getting ready be it to go to the mall or to the office. As you are finishing your touch on your blush, you let out a soft sigh and turn your head to him.
“Yes, is there anything I can help you with, Mr. Sim?”
Jake just shakes his head lightly. His lips curl up into a small smirk.
“Nothing. Just admiring my beautiful wife.”
There he goes again, teasing you. These past few weeks, he had been calling you names and giving you compliments. And he would say it with affections. Every time he did that, your heart beat for him.
God, am I in love with this man?
You roll your eyes, trying to hide the fact that he made you shy. Thanks to your blush as well that he won’t notice that your cheeks turn red because of him.
“Enough with that, Jake. Let’s go. We’ll be late.”
Jake bites his lower lips to avoid grinning too widely. Obviously, he knows how he makes you feel. You are not the only one who have been watching him since high school. He also did the same to you. Probably a tad bit more than you did – and you don’t need to know that.
So, he would know how you look when you’re happy and upset. He knows the difference between your real and fake smile. He knows about it.
He might not say it out loud but ever since he told you he would do his part as your husband; he didn’t think it will be this far. At first, he thought he would just provide for you and that’s it.
But he was wrong. The more he spends his time with you, the more he knows the real you. The more he talks to you, the more he craves for your affection. He used to sleep on his side the first few days after marriage. Now, he can’t imagine not having you in his arms at night. He might not even be able to sleep if you were not there for him to hug.
He knew it would be easy to get married to you. You won’t cause him troubles. You won’t stress him out. You know how to take care of yourself. You know how to do things on your own.
But he didn’t expect that it would be this easy for him to be himself around you. He didn’t know it would be easy for him to accept you into his new life. Most importantly, he didn’t know that he could love again like how he used to.
Actually, scratch that. He loves you more than he used to love anyone in his life. That speaks volume. If Jay and Sunghoon are here, they would give him the ‘I told you so’ look.
I love y/n. I really love this woman with all my heart.
“Y/n?”
You and Jake were walking with your arm around his when suddenly a voice called out for you. You turn to your back, and your jaw dropped instantly at your sight. Without second thought, you let go of your husband and run towards the person.
“Sunoo! What are you doing here?”
You pulled Sunoo into a hug, and he reciprocates by wrapping his arms around your waist. Your husband’s eyes widened at the sight.
Did she forget she has a husband?! Jake thought to himself.
You released Sunoo from the hug so that he can reply to you better.
“I was just walking around. Didn’t expect you to be here as well.”
You nod your head at him. After a few seconds, you turn to Jake and call him using your hand gesture.
Jake walks beside you. His eyes shooting hole into Sunoo’s face as his jaw tighten.
“I know you’ve met him before, but this is Jake, my husband.”
You introduced the man to Sunoo and lands your head against your husband’s shoulder, completely oblivious at how pissed Jake looked right now.
Unlike you, Sunoo as a man, can see how jealous the man in front of him is. I mean, which husband won’t be jealous when his wife hugs another guy right in front of his face. Smiling to himself, Sunoo politely held out his hand towards Jake.
“Hey, we met at the wedding but I’m Sunoo, y/n’s friend.”
Jake didn’t say anything but shakes Sunoo’s hand, for the sake of you. He pulls his hand away almost instantly, making the other man’s lips curl into a small smirk.
“Well, I’ll leave you two lovebirds behind. Don’t want to interrupt the date. See you when I see you, y/n.”
Sunoo pats your arm and give Jake a courtesy nod before walking away, leaving you together with your husband.
You were about to say something when Jake beat you to it.
“Is it fun being friendly with another guy in front of your husband’s face?”
You blink your eyes at the sudden burst of jealousy from Jake. You study his face properly. His cheeks are red as a result of him trying to hold back his anger. His lips forming a pout, the same one that you’ve witnessed since high school.
Jake looks so adorable right now that he makes you snort lightly.
“Oh? Is my husband jealous?”
Jake squints his eyes at you before turning his head away.
“Any husband would hate to see his wife being all over a guy other than him.”
He is jealous, you thought to yourself. You were about to console him, but before you could say anything, Jake decided to walk ahead of you, purposely leaving you as a sign of protest.
His action makes you scoff. Despite his height being taller than you and not to mention his status higher than you, he still acts like a kid. You shake your head before chasing after him.
“Where are you going~” you asked him teasingly.
“Away from you.”
You let out a soft ‘ooh’ before continuing to chase after him. When you are within the reach, you hold his hand, stopping him from his track. Although his body is facing you, his head is still facing the other side.
You bring his hand to your lips and leave a soft kiss against his knuckle. You can feel him stiffen at your sudden action, but he still refuses to face you. You let out a soft sigh before your lips curl up into a smile.
It’s usually the husband you have to persuade his wife, but now, it’s the other way around – and you are not complaining about it.
“You don’t have to worry about it, Jake. I’m not his type.”
Your words manage to make Jake faces you. His brows that were frowning earlier become deeper as he heard your sentences.
“Why? You are beautiful. You are nice. Anyone would want you. How can you not be his ideal type? Does he think that he’s better than y-”
Jake’s mouth was stopped by your finger against it. If only he’s not upset with you, he might as well kiss it. But his ego got the best of him, so he just stands there silently.
“It’s not like that. What I mean to say is… women are not his type.”
Your husband nods his head when you explain-
“Wait. So, Sunoo is…”
He doesn’t need to complete his sentence when you’re already nodding your head, knowing what he was about to ask. Unconsciously, Jake let out a loud sigh of relief. He thought that someone was about to sweep you off your feet.
Well, even if Sunoo did, he knows he will make sure to bring you back into his arms one way or another.
Jake looks at you who is now smiling innocently at him.
Fuck, how can she look so adorable.
Refused to back down, he clears his throat and pinch your nose lightly, making sure it won’t hurt you. You scrunch your nose at him. You were about to pinch his cheek as a revenge, but he managed to stop your hand.
He then leans his face close to yours.
“But I still don’t like how you left and hug him in front of me. Don’t do that again, alright.”
Your lips form a pout, but you nod obediently at his words. Of course, you should know that no matter how close you are with your guy friends, you must remember that you have a husband to take care of.
“Okay. I’m sorry for leaving you and hug him like that.”
Jake’s lips curl up into a smile, hearing your apologies. He takes your hand that was in his earlier and kiss it lovingly. Your eyes turn to the other side, an attempt to hide away your shyness. Jake just chuckles lightly at your actions before planting another kiss on top of your head.
“Shall we get going now?”
—
Two months later, you and Jake are attending the company’s annual gala night. However, this gala night is special because it is also the night that Mr. Sim, your father-in-law, will pass down the responsibilities as CEO to his son.
Although you are excited for Jake, you can’t seem to throw away the thoughts that your marriage will come to an end. Yes, both you and Jake are happy with each other. Happier than you had been in your life. But it still doesn’t change the fact that he got married to you just so he could gain the title as his dad’s successor.
A tap on your shoulder wakes you up from your thoughts. You look to your side, just to see your husband tilting his head slightly.
“What is this? Are you thinking about other man than me?”
He squints his eyes at you like how he would usually do. You hiss at him and hit his shoulder lightly.
“Why should I think about other people, when my husband is with me?”
You wrap your arm around his as your other hand rub against the spot that you hit earlier gently. Jake smiles softly at you before pecking your forehead softly, making sure not to ruin your make up and hairdo.
You and Jake continue to greet the guests. From time to time, you would join in their conversation but mostly you let Jake do the talking.
Suddenly, the hall light shuts down and a spotlight shine at the centre of the stage. There, stand Mr. Sim on the podium, getting ready to deliver his speech. Everyone’s attention diverts to the man.
He clears his throat and run his eyes across the hall.
“Good evening to everyone. I would like to thank all of you for your time tonight. I believe we already know the purpose of tonight considering that we did this every year.”
Everyone including you laugh at Mr. Sim’s greetings.
“As mentioned, we held the gala night annually without fail. Personally, it’s a way for me to appreciate everyone’s effort in making this business grow bigger each year.”
The hall is filled with claps.
“But tonight is different than before. Unlike the previous gala night, we are not only here to have fun. It is also the night where I will make an important announcement that will change the company into a better one.”
You look to your side, just to see that Jake is fidgeting and gulping nervously. You smile to yourself before leaning to his ear.
“You will be fine, Jake. I’m here with you.”
Jake turns to look at you, who is already smiling at him. Just like that, he can feel his anxiousness slowly tone down. It’s funny how before this Jake is so opposed to getting married just for the title.
Now, he understands why his dad said what he said to him before. True to his words, behind every successful man, there’s his wife. Jake never thought that he will see the day where there’s a woman behind him.
But with you supporting him directly, he believes that he can go through all the challenges and difficulties that he will face in the future. No matter how hard it is, he’s willing to go through it as long as you are with him.
Just like that, from this moment, Jake vow to himself that he will never, ever, let you go.
“Ladies and gentlemen. Without further ado, I present to you, the Sim’s new successor, Sim Jaeyun.”
The sound of claps filled the hall once again for the night. A spotlight pointed to Jake. He looks around the hall with a proud smile and bow his head politely. Before he walks up the stage, he turns towards you and hold your hands. Without second thought, he brings your hands and place a long kiss against it, making everyone looks at both of you with awe.
You nudge your hand lightly against his lips, making him look up at your crimson red face.
“Faster go,” you mouthed at him. He grins widely at you and flash you a wink before letting go of your hands and walks up onto the stage.
You just watch the view in front of you with a proud smile. Your husband is hugging your father-in-law so tightly. He is so proud of his own son, just like how he is proud with Jake’s older brother when he saw how successful he had become.
“Congratulations Mrs. Sim for your achievement.”
A voice said beside you, making your head turn to the owner. Turns out the owner of the voice belongs to Sunghoon as he stands next to you.
“You must be so proud of him.”
Another voice said on your other side, and you know it belongs to Jay. You just shake your head lightly at both of their remarks.
“Of course I’m proud of him. But I didn’t do anything for you to congratulate me.”
Jay looks at you for a short while before turning back to the stage. Both of his hands are in his pocket as he watches Jake giving his thank you speech.
“No, you deserve the wish as well. In fact, we must thank you for everything that you’ve done for Jake.”
You frown slightly at Jay’s words. You don’t quite understand what he meant by that. But, as you were about to ask, Sunghoon cut you off.
“Yeah, he’s a better man now, because of you.”
Despite your confusion, both of the men’s words still manage to soften your heart. Before you know it, tears escaped your cheeks. That was the nicest thing someone has ever tell you. You didn’t know that you needed until tonight.
Being recognized by Jake’s best friend just hit a certain spot in you. You made a mental note to ask about it later. But for now, you decide to focus on the man’s speech.
“… And to my wife, know that I will not be able to do this without you. You have been nothing but my strength and my support. You were there through ups and downs. I thank you so much. You are my woman and will always be my woman.”
Everyone howls at Jake’s words and the two men besides you whistle proudly. You just shake your head while letting out a chuckle and clap your hands. Jake is so silly. Your husband is so silly – and you will never ask for anything better than this.
After the end of the speech, you and Jake continue to talk to the guests with his arm circling around your waist the entire time. They all congratulate both of you for Jake’s achievements in becoming the new CEO. It is safe to say that the night went smoothly.
But nothing in this world is perfect, right?
“Congratulations, Jake.”
There, standing in front of you, a beautiful, mesmerizing woman in a gorgeous emerald green dress. She looks so breathtakingly beautiful to the point that your jaw drops slightly at her presence.
Unlike you, Jake’s smile falls upon seeing her. He clenches his jaw and tighten his grips against your waist. He forgot that her parents were invited to the gala by his dad. So naturally, she would be here as well.
“Thanks, Yunjin.”
The woman’s smile widens at the way Jake called her name. Her eyes then shift to you, who is still lost in her beauty. Yunjin let out a chuckle.
“Hi, my name is Yunjin, Jake’s friend.”
Bullshit, he thought.
You blink your eyes for a few seconds, trying to wake up from your own daze.
“Ah, I see. I’m y/n, Jake’s wife. He never mentions that he has such a beautiful friend as you.”
Yunjin looks at Jake for a few moments before letting out another chuckle. Her cheeks are now a bit red from your compliment.
Her laugh also sounds beautiful like her, you thought to yourself.
“Please don't say that. You are more beautiful, y/n. Besides, it’s been so long since we last met each other as well,” she said before her eyes fall upon Jake once again for the night, just to see that Jake is already looking at her.
Your eyes turn to look at Jake and Yunjin back and forth. Jake is staring at her with an expression that you don’t quite understand, while Yunjin is looking at him softly, exactly like a woman missing her partner.
That’s when it clicked in your head. You’ve heard that Jake had a girlfriend the first day you joined the company. If your guess is right, Yunjin is his ex-girlfriend. Saying that she is just a friend is a way of her being considerate of your feelings.
You don’t know what happened, but deep inside, you know that there are some unfinished businesses. You felt it through the tension that is slowly building up between them. Not even the sharpest knife can cut through it.
Before you know it, your gaze drops to the floor. Clearly, you are upset with the situation. But who are you to say anything. They had their own past. It was all just an old story. It was his past.
That’s what you keep telling yourself.
“Well, I better get going. You guys must have a lot of things to do.”
Yunjin’s words manage to pull you into reality.
“See you around, y/n.”
You try your best to smile sincerely, doing your best to show that none of these are affecting you.
“See you around, Yunjin.”
With the same previous smile on her face, she nods her head at you before once again turning to face Jake.
“Jake.”
She called out his name, but the only thing he did was nods his head towards her as his eyes turns somewhere else, refusing to meet her eyes.
Yunjin then walks away from you. You didn’t know how long it had been but the sigh that you let out indicating that you’ve been holding your breath for quite a while now. Your heart beats so loud as if it’s about to jump out of your body.
You swallow your saliva to calm yourself down before excusing yourself from your husband, saying that you need to go to the washroom.
Just like that, Jake is left alone in the middle of the hall. He frowns at the situation. Fuck, he said to himself. He should have handled it better.
Jake knows that you are upset. Going to the washroom was just a way for you to walk away from the previous commotion. As if meeting his ex-girlfriend is not the worse part of the night, his best friend came to him, probably to lecture him.
“What happened, Jake,” the older one asked.
Jake bites his lower lips.
“She came and greet us…”
“And?” Sunghoon encouraged Jake to continue his words.
“And I didn’t know how to react to it. I thought that if I said something, I might… I might…”
I might lose control and y/n might hate me for it, Jake continued inside his mind.
Jay drapes his arm around Jake’s shoulder, pulling him into a side hug in hopes it can at least comfort him after what just happened.
The guys know that it’s not easy for Jake to communicate with his ex, considering that they had a good time together just for it to end all of a sudden. But they can’t also invalid your feelings.
As a wife, they knew you must have figured out that they had something going on back then. It’s understandable that you would be upset over it even though it already ended long time ago.
“I don’t know what’s going on between you and Yunjin, but I want you to remember that you have y/n now. One thing I can see from her is that she’s loyal and sincere. She’s a woman, your wife. Whatever you want to do, consider her feelings as well.”
Jake nods his head at Sunghoon’s words. He inhales deeply and exhale, trying to calm himself down. He puffs out his cheeks as he collects his inner thoughts.
“Do you think I can be a good husband to y/n?”
Jay and Sunghoon steal a glance to each other before their lips curl up into a smirk.
“It’s up to you, man. But I think you have always been waiting for her. Ever since high school, you’ve wait for her. Now that she’s in front of you, why not grab your chance?”
Jake looks up at Jay as the older one encouraged him to move forward. Jay nods his head at Jake.
“And a little birdie told me that she is also waiting for you at the balcony just outside of the hall,” Sunghoon said as he pointed the place with his face to Jake.
Jake scoffs at himself. He can’t believe he is down bad for you. The fact that his best friends had been his witnesses made him feel even more dumb than he already is. He then pulls both Jay and Sunghoon into a hug.
They hug the man back and their hug last for quite a while. It was at this moment that reminds Jake once again just how important Sunghoon and Jay are in his life. His ride or die. The one who would be there to give him facts, no matter how hurtful it is. The one who would give motivations for him whenever he needs it. And he would gladly do the same to them as well.
Jake let go of his friends. With a deep breath, he walks towards the balcony where you are leaning against railing.
Although your back is facing him, he can’t deny the fact that you look glowing in your white dress. The way your head tilted slightly to the sky, allowing the moon to shine its light to you. You look better than his dreams.
With careful steps, he walks towards you.
“What are you thinking, princess?”
You turn your head slightly at the voice, before facing forwards again.
“Nothing important.”
“Then, why do you look like a damsel in distress, my lady?”
The closeness of his voice startled you. You didn’t realize when it happened, but his arms are already on your side, trapping you against the balcony. Slowly, you turn your back towards him. Your eyes move from down and up to his face.
You’ve always thought Jake as a handsome man. But right now, he looks even better than before. His face is so close that you can see the length of his eyelashes. His nose that would occasionally bump into your head and cheeks as he leaves pecks here and there. His lips… the same lips that would kiss you everywhere but your lips.
The last time you felt it against yours was when you were pronounced as husband and wife. It was a short one, but you can still feel it tingling against yours. You would do anything just to feel that lips once again.
However, you know you can’t. Not when he was about to divorce you right here, right now. Mustering your courage, you look into his eyes. Although your tears are threatening to escape, you’re trying your best to hold it in by burying your nails into your hand.
“Jake, congratulations. You’re finally where you want to be now. You’ve been working so hard to prove that you’re worth it. Now, you got it.”
Jake’s eyes soften at your words and his grip weakens. You sniff before continuing your words.
“Thank you for being a husband for me. A real one at that. I didn’t know anyone would do anything for me aside from my parents. There is not a single moment where I regret having you as my husband. Thank you for everything that you did for me. I will cherish all the memories until the end of my life.”
As you finished your sentence, the tears that you’ve been holding back finally roll down your cheeks. You have said everything that you want to say. Whatever happens after this, you will accept it with all your heart. When Jake decides to stop everything with you, you will have to be ready to let him go.
Jake’s hands move up to cup your face. You close your eyes at what about to happen.
Do it. I’ll be fine. I can take it.
You can feel his thumbs brushes your tears away, but then you feel his lips against your forehead. You open your eyes and look up at him, just to see him looking at you with a loving smile. His tears run down his cheeks, mirroring yours. Jake takes a deep breath. He then looks at you again with the same smile.
“Let’s end this.”
He said it. He finally said it. The words that you were waiting to hear from him. He said it. You thought that you could handle it, but your reaction proves you wrong.
You burst into crying in his hands. Every emotion that you’ve been holding back are showing itself. You are not okay. You will never be okay. Call you selfish, but you want to be with him always and forever. You need Jake, even if he didn’t need you.
Or so you thought.
“Let’s stop pretending, and love each other for real.”
His words managed to make you look at him with your eyes widened. The expression of your face clearly shows Jake that it was not what you expected to hear tonight. You thought that he would divorce you. After he got the position as CEO, he would put this to an end. That’s how it should be.
You try to breath properly. Looking at how difficult it is for you to calm down, he moves one of his hands and rubs your back while his other hand caressing your cheeks softly. Jake inhale and exhale along with you, in hopes for you to follow his breathing pattern.
When you’ve finally calm down, you blink your tears away from your eyes, trying to see Jake in a clear view.
“But you told me that you would end this marriage after you get the title.”
Jake looks at you for a few seconds before letting out a soft laugh. He didn’t miss the pout that is forming on your face, making you look like a little girl crying for her lollipop. He shakes his head.
“I may have implied that, and I’m so sorry.”
Your eyes never leave Jake as you wait for him to continue his words.
“I thought that whatever we had between us will merely be another fleeting moment. But the more I’m with you, the greedier I became. What started of as pretending, I want it to be real. All of the moments that I had with you was everything I could imagine. Hell, it was better than my imaginations. You made it so easy to be with you. To cherish you. To care for you. Before I knew it, I want you all to myself.”
Jake’s arm that was on your back quickly circles your waist, pulling you close to his body. Slowly, he leans to your face, just enough for his lips to brush against yours.
“You are my lady. You are my woman. You are my wife. You are mine, and I’m not letting you go, ever.”
You gasp at his words. You can’t think straight after what you just heard. Who knows a guy like Jake can also be this romantic towards someone. Even more towards you. You, who just happened to study in the same school and work in the same place as he is. There are thousands of women he could go for, and yet he chose to settle down with you. At this point, you can die happily.
“So, what do you say, Mrs. Sim? Are you in for it, or you want to run away? But just so you know, I will chase you to the end of the world if you choose the latter.”
Your eyes search for his, just to see that he’s already gazing at you with sincerity, passion, and a hint of something you’ve never seen before. The guy that you’ve been watching and only watching are in front of you with his arm clinging onto your waist protectively.
You know that if you try to say anything, your voice will betray you. So, you opt for the easier choice nodding your head, indicating that you’re saying yes to him.
The corner of Jake’s lips curls up into a small smirk before he claims your lips with his. After holding back for so long, he finally has you in his arms as his one and only. Good things always come to those who wait. Jake might have to study more about the philosophies considering that it had been proven real to him.
The kiss that both of you shares are filled with a lot of passion and affections. All the restrains that you and Jake put onto yourself are now broken. His hands are now rubbing on your side as he turns his head to the other side, deepening the kiss. You let Jake lead the kiss as you circle your arms around his neck to prevent you from falling.
You are not surprised that his kiss will make you weak at your knees. You have always known he would be a good kisser. But you didn’t expect that he will kiss you as if his life depends on it.
A moan escapes from you when Jake purposely bites your lower lips. Both of you pull away slightly to take a breath. Looking at Jake’s expression, you finally understand the meaning behind his gaze earlier.
As for Jake, he is staring at you. You look more beautiful than you already are with your lips slightly swollen because of him – and he takes pride in it. He was planning to tease you when he bit you earlier. He didn’t know that you would make a sound that could awakened something in him. He knew that he won’t be able to take it if he didn’t control himself, so he put your kiss into a halt.
Jake brushes his nose gently against yours, making you look up to him. His hand moves up to caress your cheek once again.
“All the time spent of me looking at you from afar back in school, I knew it’s going to be worth it.”
Your cheeks turn bright red at his words, but it didn’t fail to make you frown in confusion.
“Looking at me? You were looking at me the whole time?! I thought I was the one doing that to you?”
Jake chuckles at your words before placing a soft peck against your nose.
“You weren’t the only one who have great eyes.”
He winks at you, making you laugh along with him. You didn’t know that he was doing the same thing that you did to him. Maybe you are fated for him, just like he thought when he met you for the first time.
“I love you, Mrs. Sim Y/n.”
“I love you too, Mr. Sim Jaeyun.”
Both of you stay in silent, just admiring each other before Jake decided to break it.
“So, shall we go and continue this somewhere else? I don’t think I can hold myself longer.”
Your jaw dropped at his words before hitting his chest. He winces in pain and rubs the spot before turning to you and steals a kiss on your lips. He then picks you up bridal style and bring you back home, where you will be spending time with him all night long, skin-to-skin.
—
It had been months since Jake was announced as the new CEO of the infamous Sim’s company. The business starts to grow even more. A lot of international clients are interested to work alongside with Jake. He is compatible, responsible, and most importantly, he knows what he wants, and he knows he will get it.
But of course, you were there with him the whole time. Ever since you and Jake confessed to each other, both of you are becoming more and more clingy and loving towards each other. Nevertheless, you know the difference between professionalism and personal, considering that you are now working as your husband’s secretary.
You tried to deny his offer a lot of times before, saying that it will be a talk of the office if she becomes his secretary. But knowing Jake, he wants to make sure that you are with him all the time. Well, he wishes for you to be with him every time.
Until he has a business trip to attend to.
“Are you sure you don’t want to follow me? You can rest there,” Jake tried to persuade you for the nth times to follow him to the trip. His lips keep on placing kisses to yours with his arms around your waist, an attempt to melt your down.
“But you will be working, my love. I don’t want to go anywhere without you. It will feel incomplete without you by my side.”
Jake groans softly at your words, but he can’t deny it as well. You are telling the truth. He will be working all day and will only come back at night. If he were at your shoes, he would refuse to go as well. What’s the point of going on a trip with your spouse if you can’t spend time together properly.
But it doesn’t change the fact that Jake is still sad, thinking about not having you with him for three days straight. Naturally, a pout forms on his face, showing that he’s still upset.
You let out a soft sigh as you look at your husband. You then stand on your toe and kiss his pout away.
“Let’s put it this way – the sooner you take off, the sooner you will be back with me. Does that sound better to you?”
Jake just nods his head obediently, once again resembling a puppy. He then pulls you into a tight hug.
“I love you, Mrs. Sim. Remember that, okay?”
The corner of your lips curls up into a smile as your rub your husband’s back up and down.
“I love you too, Mr. Sim. Always and forever.”
Both of you let go of each other, yet your hands are still intertwined with one another. The sight makes you chuckle a bit.
“You need to go. Don’t want you to miss the flight.”
Jake nods his head once again. After leaving kisses on your head, down to your forehead, eyes, nose and lips, he finally walks into the gate, waving his hand at you. You wave back to him with a reassuring smile on your face.
Once he is gone from your sight, you start to miss his presence. This is the first time you had to separate with him ever since your marriage. He was always there with you, whether to comfort you, love you, or even annoy the hell out of you.
But as his wife, you know he needs your full support for him to move forward and bringing you along with him on this journey. You need to be in your optimum energy to help him achieve his dreams.
That is why you are currently in the bakery nearby your house. You can’t be energetic if you are hungry. You were scanning through all of the options when someone called your name from behind.
“Y/n?”
You turn to the owner of the voice, just to see Yunjin, looking effortlessly beautiful like she always does.
“I never thought I would bump into you here. Are you alone?”
Her question bothers you a bit, not going to lie. But you remind yourself that it was all in the past. Jake is yours, and only yours.
With a genuine smile, you look up at her. “Yeah. Jake is on a trip for a few days. I’m just running a quick errand.”
Yunjin nods her head at you. Her eyes soften at the sight of you.
“Jake is so lucky to have a wife like you. So beautiful yet so diligent.”
You look down at Yunjin’s sudden compliments. Your cheeks are slowly turning into crimson red. It makes it impossible for Yunjin not to find you adorable.
“Ah, how about we hang out whenever we have time. Here’s my number.”
Yunjin holds out her business card. You look at it. Huh Yunjin, the owner of YJ Fashion House. You knew Yunjin is an amazing woman, and her status just increase her level in your head. You take the card and keep it safely in your bag.
“Sure. Thank you for the offer Yunjin.”
She just nods her head to you. As you were about to bid her goodbye, she put you into a halt.
“Oh also, can we take a picture together? I’ve been dying to have one with you ever since we met that day.”
Your eyes twinkles at the thought of a brilliant woman such as Yunjin, wanting to take pictures with you, who are just merely a secretary to your husband. You then nod your head at her, giving her your approval.
She grins widely, showing how happy she is. Using her phone, she flips the camera so that you and Yunjin can take a few selfies.
“I will send the pictures to you later. It was nice meeting you again, y/n.”
“It was nice meeting you as well, Yunjin.”
Just like that, both of you part your ways to your own destinations, not knowing that a storm will be coming your way soon.
—
After three full days of dealing with works, Jake finally returns to your arms during the weekends. At first, Jake insists to bring you out. But you don’t want him to force himself as he needs rest.
So, during the weekends, you decided to just stay inside and pamper Jake to the fullest. Of course, being the clingy needy husband he is, he don't mind it at all. For two days straight you pay attention to him and only him, and he did the same to you.
No talking about work. Just small talks from time to time. Most of the time though you spend your time with Jake snuggling and cuddling you. You love the fact that he is not afraid to show his vulnerable side to you. He may look like he got it together in front of people, but with you, he’s still a kid stuck in a grown-up body.
But of course, that doesn’t last longer. There are times when he wants more than just be close to you – and he did just that. You don’t know how you can handle it considering that his drives are quite high.
Just like that, the weekends passed by quickly and you are back to being his secretary once again. As usual, you would inform his schedule and relay messages that you received on behalf of Jake while he was away. The files that are in need of his actions had been laid out neatly on his table.
“Can I get you anything, Mr. Sim?” You asked after you’ve finished conveying everything that he needs to know.
Jake hums softly. “Can you tell Mrs. Sim that she looks ravishing today?”
You roll your eyes at his remarks as he flashes an innocent smile at you.
“I will let her know, Mr. Sim. If there’s nothing, I will make my way.”
You bow your head respectfully before sending him a playful wink and walk out of his office.
Jake being Jake decides to follow you – specifically your butt – with his eyes until you are out of his sight. This have happened countless times before. If he ignores the professionalism between both of you, he knows he would have you in his office any time he wanted.
Without wasting any more time, Jake’s hands move across the files and papers on his tray. He lets out a soft sigh looking at the amount of works that he needs to review. Well, he did ask for it so he can’t say anything about it.
But what really catches his attention is a brown envelope, sealed perfectly. The only thing written on the envelope is Jake’s name. He takes the envelope and turn it. There, he could see the word ‘private and confidential’.
He tilts his head to the side. He doesn’t recall any agreements that he needs to sign that is confidential. With a shrug of his shoulder, he unseals the envelope. He inserts his hand into it and take out what seems to be pictures.
His curiosity changed into anger as fast as lightning at the view in front of him. His eyes are brimming with tears, threaten to fall. With shaking hands, he pressed the intercom and called you into his office.
He doesn’t sound good. You’ve known him long enough to know that he is upset just by his voice through the speaker. Without a second thought, you knock on his door and enter his office when he approves of you.
You look at his state with a frown. His face is hidden behind his arms that was connected as he clasps his hand together. If you could make a guess, you would say that he looks miserable. You were about to ask him, but he decided to speak up first.
“What were you doing when I wasn’t around?”
Your frown grows deeper at his question.
“I was at the office in the morning and went back home in the evening. I didn’t go anywhere except for grocery stores to buy a few stuffs for our home.”
Jake scoffs at your last two words. Our home.
“Our home, where you were fucking someone else in our bed?”
Your jaws dropped at his words. This is unfair. Did he really think that low of you? That you would simply having fun with other guys when he’s not around? This is ridiculous.
One thing you can’t stand is when people falsely blaming you on something that you didn’t do. Slowly, you can feel yourself getting fired up.
"You, out of people, accused me of cheating on you?"
Jake lifts his head up to look at you. His eyes are red from all the crying that he did before you stepped into the office.
"Well, explain these then?"
Jake threw the pictures in his hands on the table. You bend down to get a better view of it. In those pictures, it was you and a man, tangled to one another in various positions.
Your eyes widened at the images in front of you. You knew it wasn't you. Although it was your face in there, but you didn't do all of that. You would never betray the trust of the man in front of you. You didn’t even think of betraying him in the first place.
But how, how can the woman in the picture looks a lot like you, when you know you have never slept with any man other than him.
"I don't know about this Jake, but I swear I have never done all of these. Please, believe me."
Your eyes are glistening with tears as you look at him, begging for him to trust you.
But you know it was no use. The way he looks at you is no longer like how he used to. It was filled with love and affection ever since the day both of you said, 'I do'.
Now, it was as if whatever he felt for you has vanished. The only emotion that he could feel is numbness and emptiness. He thought that you would be different than others. Turns out you're just the same.
You're just another woman, staying by his side just for the benefits.
Without saying anything, Jake grabs his blazer and walks out of the office, leaving you standing in the room, crying your heart out.
This isn't what you imagined how it's going to be. You thought everything would be fine the moment Jake kissed you that day. That you would finally experience your first and true love.
You didn't expect for all of these to happen. Your mind suddenly drifts off to the night of the gala. Were you and Jake not supposed to have your happy ending? If only one of you end this marriage like how it should, would any of this still happened?
Right, this all happened because of you. You selfishly want to be in this marriage despite knowing that it has to come to an end. You have no one to blame but yourself.
You thought that you finally had him for yourself. The man that you have always been attracted to. The man that never fails to make your heart feels full. You were stupid enough to believe that.
As you are left alone in the office, you thought to yourself, ‘I should’ve let my fairytale remain as a fairytale'.
—
“Huh, it’s surprising to see that you are not drunk. Guess you really changed.”
Jay’s disclaimer receives a glare from Jake. His expression clearly shows that he is not in the mood for jokes or anything stupid.
“And what do you mean by that?”
“When you broke up last time, you almost got into a fight with me,” Sunghoon answered on behalf of Jay.
Jake turns to Sunghoon before letting out a scoff.
“In my defence, you started it.”
Sunghoon raise one of his brows. He decides to ignore the remarks to avoid any arguments... again. He raises his glass to his lips and drink from it.
“So, what is it this time?”
Jake sigh at Jay’s question. He contemplates whether to tell his friends the truth or not. His friends on the other hand, knows him too well.
Despite getting hurt or betrayed, Jake had always been selective in giving out details about his personal life. For him, it’s supposed to be kept in minimal. Whatever happened inside the house, stays inside the house.
As much as his friends respect him for that, sometimes they wish that Jake could open up just a bit, so that they can help him in any way they feel necessary.
“Let’s just say that our marriage is getting too... crowded.”
Jay and Sunghoon look at each other. It wasn’t that direct, but it’s not indirect either. Everyone has their own interpretation. In this case, Jake seems to imply that there is a third party involved in their relationship.
However, Jay and Sunghoon found it hard to believe because you don’t look like someone who would go out there and cheat on a man that truly love you for who you are. But then, they might be wrong as well.
“Are you sure y/n would do that to you?”
Jake shrugs his shoulders at Jake’s question. He lifts his glass to his lips and gulp down the remaining liquid.
“As much as I would like to deny it, I’m not sure if I can do that with the evidence that I have.”
Sunghoon nods his head in understanding manner. He then pats Jake’s shoulder and flash him a small smile.
“You do what you got to do man. We’ll be here for you, always.”
Jake replies Sunghoon with a smile. He’s truly blessed for having such understanding best friends. He might not be lucky in love, but he knows he won lottery with friendship. So, it’s okay.
He’s going to be okay.
He’s going to be okay.
I'm going to be okay.
When Jake enters the dark room, suddenly everything feels empty. It feels like his life is crumbling down again. The thought that he kept repeating like a mantra before vanished just like that.
He knows he can’t possibly go back home. Not with his current state. He needs to get away from all of these. He wants to forget about everything.
Unconsciously, he walks towards his office desk. The pictures were still scattered like how he left them earlier. The pictures are enough to ignite his anger. He has never felt so deeply disappointed in someone before.
He thought that he knows you enough to not be suspicious of you. But he never knew that you’re just another wolf in sheep’s skin.
Jake picks up one of the pictures. If only he could get hold onto the man in the picture, he knew he would beat him up until no one could recognize him ever again.
Maybe he should’ve ended their relationship according to the original plan. Jake sighs to himself. He has no one to blame but himself. He trusts you too easily. In the end, he is the one who got fooled.
He examines the picture one last time for the night as he’s thinking of a solution to all of this.
When he finally found an answer, the corner of his lips curls up into a smirk. Bingo.
—
Hundreds of calls, thousands of messages, and you still haven’t heard anything from Jake.
You know that he needs some time to calm down. Yet you can’t help but to feel worried for him. The least you want to know is where would he spend the night and if he’s eaten anything.
But there is nothing you can do. You must let him be for the night. To be fair, no one would be okay if out of nowhere there’s a picture of your partner being intimate with another person – let alone tons of pictures of it.
Your tears had dried down from all the crying that you did earlier. As soon as Jake stormed out of the office, you made the decision to empty out his schedule for the day, claiming that he was on sick leave.
As for you, you requested to take a week leave and informed Mr. Sim – your father-in-law – about it. You didn’t say for what but by the look on your face, he could guess there is something going on between you and Jake.
“Things are bound to happen. Take a break. I promise you it will be fine. Sooner or later, it will get better.”
You smile at his words. You are not sure if you and Jake will ever be fine after the incident but at least your father-in-law's words managed to bring up your spirit.
As much as you are still upset about everything, you want to get everything right. You will make it right again.
You are sitting on the couch in the living room with a picture in your hand. You managed to steal one of it from the pile in Jake’s office earlier.
Biting your lower lips, you lift the picture to your face so you can see it more clearly. That’s when you notice something different about the picture.
Without second thought, you grab your phone and dial a number. After a few rings, the receiver picks up the phone.
“Hey, can we meet up tomorrow?”
—
“So, what do you think?”
Sunoo hums to himself and look at you. He hands the picture that you gave earlier.
“You’re right. It’s edited. Most probably AI.”
You tilt your head in confusion.
“AI?”
“Artificial Intelligence. It was programmed to help human in various ways – workforce, study, music – you name it.”
You nod your head before a frown form on your face.
“But what does that have to do with my case?”
Sunoo smirks to himself. He pulls out his phone and type something on his phone before showing you a picture. You take his phone and identify it. You don’t know why but the picture looks very familiar to you. It was as if you have been there.
That’s when it clicks in your head. You look at the person’s face closer and you see that the person resembles Sunoo but he’s wearing the outfit that you used to wear back in college.
“Isn’t this my picture? Why does this look like you?”
Sunoo smiles at your reaction.
“That’s also an AI. I just chose a picture of my face and replaced it with yours. It didn’t copy my face 100% but the resemblance is there.”
His smile fades away as he leans forward to you.
“The same thing with your case. Whoever edited it must have your picture as well. Yes, AI can be helpful to us. But some people use it for other purposes – framing, blackmailing, humiliation. At the end of the day, it depends on the person’s intention.”
You think to yourself, trying to figure out the possible suspect. As far as you know, none of the people in your circle is suspicious considering. There’s only Sunoo, few of your college friends, and-
Your eyes widen at the realization. You look up at Sunoo.
“It couldn’t be…”
—
“Jake!”
Jake turns his head towards the owner of the voice. There, stand his ex-girlfriend, looking like how she normally would.
“It’s been a long time since we last talk to each other, right,” she said before inviting herself to sit across him.
Jake didn’t do anything except following her movements with his eyes.
“So, what’s the sudden occasion? I thought you blocked me already.”
He let out a soft chuckle at Yunjin’s remarks before shaking his head and flashing her a small smile.
“Nothing. Just thought that it would be nice to meet you again.”
Yunjin bites her lower lips, holding back herself from smiling too widely at the possibility of Jake missing her like how she missed him.
“Don’t say it like that. If your wife heard you, she would think that we had something going on.”
Jake’s face fell at the mention of his wife, and Yunjin didn’t miss that. Her expression changed to worry when she saw Jake frowns his brows.
“Hey, did anything happen?”
Jake swallows his saliva, a bit too loud for her liking. He then shakes his head, trying to not make Yunjin ask further questions about it.
She sighs softly at Jake. He’s always so nice. Yunjin was used to this side of Jake. Just like his friends, she too knows that Jake isn’t someone who would simply talk about his life to anyone.
But looking at his state now, Yunjin wishes nothing but for Jake to at least share a bit of the burden with her. She wishes that she can take care of him, like how she used to back then.
Yunjin reaches her hand to Jake’s on the table, making the guy lifts his face to look at her. She flashes him a soft smile as she caresses his hand.
“Don’t worry. I’m here for you, Jake. You don’t have to be strong all the time.”
Jake looks down at her hand. Without thinking, he holds her hand and bring it close to his face.
Yunjin was stunned at the sudden gesture. She could feel his breath against her skin. Oh, how she missed it. She missed Jake so much. She missed being loved by him. She missed loving him as well. If only he knows that she would do anything to have him back.
“I thought you don’t like tattoo.”
Jake’s remarks pull Yunjin out from her daydream. Her eyes then fall onto her inner forefinger where she planted her tattoo. Her lips curl into a soft smile.
“I got it after we broke up. I was devastated so I did it.”
Jake nods his head and flashes her a smile before his eyes fall back onto the tattoo.
Both of them stay in silent, with Jake still gazing at her tattoo. She thought that it was cute how Jake never seems to take his eyes from it. Not to mention her pride when he notices the small details about her – just like when they used to be together before.
Before Yunjin could stop herself, she confessed to Jake.
“I miss you, Jake. I always have.”
—
It was raining heavily outside. Today, marks the third day of Jake not coming back home. You’ve tried to reach him, but it seems like he has blocked you.
You asked Jay and Sunghoon about Jake, yet the only thing that they could say was to give him space and time. Speaking of loyal friends, huh.
You miss Jake a lot. You miss Jake so much to the point that you still cooked for him, even though the chance of him coming back home to you is thin. Aside from meeting Sunoo, you didn’t go anywhere else.
You only wait for Jake, day and night, without fail. You didn’t bother to sleep in the bedroom anymore. You just stay in the living room, wanting to greet him whenever he chooses to come back home.
Turns out, your effort does not go in vain.
As the clock strikes 12 midnight, Jake opens the door and enter the house. He takes off his shoes and put it in the cupboard.
“Welcome home, Jake.”
He didn’t say anything. Instead, he chooses to ignore you and walk up the stairs. You stand up from the couch and call his name, stopping him on his track.
“Where were you?”
He stays silence.
“Have you eaten?”
Again, nothing.
“Did you meet Yunjin-“
“It’s none of your business.”
You look at Jake, whose back is facing you before letting out a scoff. Of course, he will only talk to you if you mention her name. The name that he can’t seem to let go. The name that used to be his sweetheart for four years.
Betrayal and hurt dominates your heart. The softness in you is now gone. You did not just wait in the house, waiting for him to come just to find out that he’s out there with his ex-girlfriend.
“I knew it. You can’t forget about her, right? After all these years, she’s still the one in your mind.”
Your eyes slowly tear up.
“I’m just the replacement. A woman you used to climb up to your title.”
That’s not it.
“A woman that you can use as your trophy.”
That’s not true.
“A woman that you will throw away once you’re done using her to fulfil your needs-”
“Enough!”
You gasp at the sudden scream from Jake. The head that were facing the opposite side is now looking straight at you. His hands form into fist, with his thumbs hiding against his palms. His lips tremble from the anger that build up in him.
It was wrong. It was all wrong. Whatever you said about yourself, it was wrong. Jake has never seen you as trophy. He never wants to take advantage of your kindness. He loved you with all his heart and soul.
The worst part is, he still does.
“Jake…”
Jake’s face softens at the sound of your voice calling his name for the second time tonight. He missed it. He missed you. A lot. He wants to be with you again like how it used to be. He wants to get pampered by you. He wants to give you all the loves and affections that you deserve.
But he can’t because he promised himself he will end it tomorrow.
“Do you still love her?”
His breath hitched at your question. His eyes move to look at you, just to see that your eyes are red from all the crying that you did for the past few days. The thought of you crying for him while he wasn’t around makes him sick.
He can’t help but blame himself for putting you in such situation. You didn’t deserve all of these. You deserve to be with a man that can make you happy and showers you with all the things the world could offer.
Not with a guy like him who will only make you sad and cry all the time. You shouldn’t be here. He didn’t deserve you at all.
Without any words, Jake turns his head back to the stairs. He continues to walk up the stairs and into the bedroom, leaving you standing in the living room with tears falling down your cheeks.
As soon as you hear the door closes, you fall on your knees to the floor. You’re tired. You’ve reached your limit. You don’t think you can keep up with this any longer.
Jake doesn’t care about you anymore. You’ve been worried sick about him. He didn’t come back home. He didn’t go to office either. Sunghoon and Jay also said that they didn’t know where he is.
But he doesn’t care. After all these times, the only thing that he spoke to you was in the form of anger.
You feel pity for yourself. You’re worthless. You can feel your body slowly fall on the ground, and you just let it happen.
Right at that moment, your eyes fall upon the ring at your hand. The sparkles are still there, as if it’s still new.
Will it still look the same if it was on her hand, or will it look better?
As your eyes close for the night, you thought to yourself, I will end it tomorrow.
It will end tomorrow.
—
“Did I make you wait too long?”
Yunjin was drinking from her cup before you appear in front of her. She put down her drink and shakes her head with a smile on her face.
“No, I don’t mind. I understand you must have business to attend to.”
Despite looking all innocent, you can sense the sarcasm behind her voice. Your eyebrows lift slightly in amusement.
Huh, so this is the real Yunjin.
You sit across Yunjin as she picks up her cup and drink from it again.
“So, what do you want to talk about?”
You pursue your lips at her. You think to yourself to decide the method that you want to go for.
After a few seconds, your hands move to unzip your bag to take out a picture of ‘you’ and the unknown man. Without hesitation, you place the picture on the table and slide it to her.
“I will cut to the chaste. That woman… it’s you. Am I right?”
Yunjin takes the picture in her hand before letting out a historical laugh, enough to get everyone’s attention.
Humiliation. That is how Yunjin wants to play.
“Are you blind? It’s your face in the picture. Not mine.”
You can hear people starts murmuring about the scene that is about to unfold in front of them. But you pay them no attention. You are determined to end everything today. Right here, right now.
“The face does belong to me. But not the body.”
Yunjin’s eyes twitch at your counter. You tilt your head to the side, studying her reaction.
“Look at it properly. That tattoo on the inner side of the finger; it matches yours, right?”
Her face fell when you mention about it. Yunjin bring the picture closer to her and scan the picture. That’s when she saw the tattoo.
How could she forget to remove it before printing it? How could she be so careless? The fact that you even know the tattoo belongs to her… How can it be possible? You’ve only met her twice. That’s not enough for anyone to actually notice something as small as this.
“I’ve always been good in observing people. It doesn’t take me long to notice your tattoo considering that it’s on the same hand that you shook mine with back at the gala night.”
Yunjin feels like a huge rock has hit her head. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!
The whispers around you increase more and more as time passed by.
I can’t believe someone as beautiful as her can be so ugly deep inside.
So pathetic. Slept with a guy and blame others for it.
She’s nothing but a whore.
Yunjin’s lips tremble at the words thrown to her. This is not how she planned it to be. She wants to humiliate you, but it went to her instead. It doesn’t make sense. If only you didn’t marry Jake, none of this would happen and she would still be with him by his side.
She is supposed to hold the title of Mrs. Sim. She is much more worthy as his wife. But it all went down because of you.
However, she didn’t plan to give up. At least not today.
Yunjin gathers her composure before leaning her back against her chair.
“You could’ve purposely placed the tattoo in the picture. Isn’t it easier that way?”
With only those sentence, the people’s opinion suddenly changed.
Why can’t she leave the woman alone?
She must be hungry for attention. That’s why she purposely blames the other woman.
A woman who betrays its own kind should not be labelled as a woman at all.
The corner of Yunjin’s lips curl up into a smirk. People are easily manipulated. All you need to do is to say a few things and they will instantly believe you whether it’s real or fake.
She has won. The victory is hers.
Unfortunately for her, the success doesn’t last long. You knew she would say that which is why you’ve been keeping another strong evidence to prove that it’s not you in the picture.
As you reach inside your bag, you felt a hand on your shoulder. You look up at the owner of the hand. Your eyes widened at the sight of Jake.
You didn’t expect him to be here - so does Yunjin. He is not supposed to know you’re here. What is he even doing here? Did he make another appointment with Yunjin?
“You want another proof that it’s not her? Here, I bring the real guy from the picture.”
Jake said to Yunjin before moving to the side slightly, revealing a man named K standing behind him. Her eyes instantly widened at the sight of him. The exact same guy that she paid to frame you. The exact same guy that she slept with, just for the sake of destroying your marriage with Jake.
Yunjin shakes his head to herself.
“No. I don't know this guy. I didn’t do anything.”
“You slept with me, and you said you didn’t do it? Did you forgot that I also have the original picture?”
Yunjin’s eyes move to K, and she stood up from the chair.
“I paid you to keep quiet!”
K scoffs at her.
“No. You paid me to sleep with you. That’s it.”
Yunjin bites her lips before letting out a frustrated groan. She turns to Jake and tries to grab his hands, but Jake avoided her advanced towards him.
“Jake, I have a reason. I did all of this for you. I love you, Jake. I love you so much.”
You don’t like the view in front of you. As a woman, you feel pitiful towards Yunjin. One would never think a beauty such as herself would go low just for the sake of love. Refusing to witness how pathetic Yunjin is, you hug yourself and look to your side.
Jake on the other hand can read your body language. He knows you want to run away from the commotion. As your husband, he wants nothing more than fulfilling your wish and needs. So, he must end it now.
“Do you know why I broke up with you, Yunjin?”
Jake’s question makes Yunjin frown in confusion. Jake clears his throat, and his lips form a straight line.
“That day, I just got back from studying. When I walked into our room, I saw you sleeping soundly, with another guy next to you. I don’t need to know that you both are naked under the blanket considering that clothes were scattered on the floor. You claimed that you love me, but you still had the guts to cheat on me. That’s why I broke up with you...”
Jake turns to look at you for a few seconds before facing Yunjin once again.
“... That’s why I will never ever be with you.”
At that, Jake pulls you up and circles his arm around your waist, before bringing you out of the place, leaving Yunjin faced the humiliation that she created.
—
As soon as you enter the house, Jake closes the door behind you and bring you to sit down in the living room. He then excuses himself to the kitchen to get two glasses of water. He brings the waters to the living room and put it on the table before sitting down next to you.
Both of you stay in silence for a while. You puff your cheeks before grabbing the glass and drink the water.
“How did you know I was there?”
Jake clears his throat. Now, it’s his turn to drink the water before answering your question.
“I... followed you?”
You turn to face Jake, blinking your eyes at his words.
“Really? You followed me? Since when?”
Jake rubs the back of his neck and flashes you a sheepish smile.
“Well, that day when I stormed off from office, I came back later that night. When I wanted to throw away the pictures, I felt something was off. That’s when I realized that the face does resembles you, but not totally you. Not to mention the hint of tattoo on the finger...”
His hands move to hold your hand gently. He brings up your hand to his face before smiling to himself.
“...I’ve kissed this same hand countless times to know that you’ve never had tattoo, my love.”
All emotions come at you at the same time when he called you, my love. Tears brimming at your eyes as you suddenly recalled those nights without Jake in your arms. The way he raised his voice for the first time at you are still fresh in your mind, considering it just happened yesterday.
“You hurt me, Jake. You hurt me so much.”
Jake looks at your teary eyes before leaning his forehead against yours, making you burst into tears as soon as it touches. He had always known that you are a soft person, and you prove him right.
He knows that he has hurt you so bad. Although it was only a few days, the pain in your heart will still need time to heal. He won’t blame you for hating him or anything. He deserves it.
“I know baby, I know. I left you alone, crying to yourself for days. I am a bad husband, and I am sorry for the way I behave. I should’ve believed you because you are my wife. My wife will never cheat on me, and I should know better.”
You just nod your head, agreeing to his words as tears still flowing down your cheeks.
Jake’s hands move up to caress your arms to your shoulder and up to your face. His thumbs wipe away your tears, even though a lot are still threatening to fall.
“Please, forgive me. You can take as much time as you need, but please, don’t leave me, y/n. I want no one but you to be my wife. You are the only one for me. No one can change that.”
You open your eyes to look at Jake, just to find out that he is quietly sobbing. You can’t believe that there will be a day where Jake would cry in front of you. It just shows that he truly cares for you and whatever he said earlier is nothing but the truth.
Although a part of you is still upset with him, you can’t deny that your heart yearns to love and be loved by him. Just like him, you can’t imagine any other man as your lover, let alone your husband. You want him, and only him.
Your hand reaches up to cup his face, his eyes are now looking into yours. You could feel his breath against your skin, and that’s enough to tell you that he’s in front of you.
Without wasting time, you lean to Jake, pressing your lips against his, in which he responds with open heart. Both of you could taste each other’s tears, but you don’t care.
You and Jake have been spending time away from each other for too long ever since you got married to him. All the pent-up emotion and frustration can be felt with the way you and Jake can’t seem to let go of one another.
Suddenly, everything feels right all over again. The pieces that were scattered are now together once again. Your life had always been normal. But somehow, being together with Jake makes your life more colourful than it already is.
Deep in the heart, you and Jake promise to not leave one another anymore for both of you can’t live without each other. Jake needs you as much as you need Jake. No one in the world can ever change that.
As you are lost in Jake’s arms, you thank the universe for shaping you into Jake’s one and only, Mrs. Sim, forever.

Unexpected day off means writing longer smut! I'm really enjoying writing these little things right now.
She knows he isn’t even aware that he’s doing it, he’s so completely oblivious to the effect he has on other people sometimes. She’d been good—or mostly successful—tuning it out before they started sleeping together, but now, watching him like this just reminds her of all the wonderful things he can do with that mouth of his. And she has no idea what prompts it, but some days, he just won’t stop doing the most infuriating things with it when there’s nothing she can do but watch. It’s bad today.
He must have gone through half a bag of sunflower seeds by now, lips and teeth and tongue working on them absentmindedly as he reads through reports. He puts things in his mouth to hold them while his hands are busy—pens, paper clips, the fucking coffee stirrer…which he then just keeps there to chew on it. He bites his full bottom lip, runs his fingers over it as he carefully studies a picture in a file, and she’s going crazy. He won’t stop. He just won’t stop. He just keeps going. In their office, in the car, at a fucking crime scene they’re investigating, in a meeting with five cops, Skinner, Kersh, and several other people whose names she didn’t get because she can’t think straight.
She’s sitting at the conference table clenching her thighs together, trying to ignore the throbbing between her legs. Her underwear is soaked and still she can’t stop looking at him, throwing sideways glances at him in the chair next to her. He’s chewing a hangnail on his index finger, his tongue flicking out occasionally to soothe the spot, and she considers excusing herself and finding the nearest bathroom or closet or any empty room to take care of herself. It would take no time at all; she feels like she’s been on the brink of orgasm for hours and it’s not going away.
When they finally, finally finish for the day, she doesn’t even spare anyone a single glance, doesn’t say anything, just speedwalks straight to the elevator to get down to the basement. Their tiny bathroom down there is her best chance of not being caught. Mulder will hopefully stay upstairs, talking over details of the case with…whoever all these people are. God. She needs to come so she can finally form a single clear thought in her head.
Unfortunately, Mulder seems to have no intention of hanging out with anyone up here, instead comes running after her, catching the elevator door with his arm at the last moment, joining her in the small metal box where she can’t get away from him.
“Scully,” he says, a little out of breath. “Are you okay?” He sounds so concerned and she wants to groan in frustration. She manages a deep breath instead and nods, keeping her eyes straight ahead, avoiding his gaze.
“I’m fine.”
He puts a hand gently on her shoulder and she can’t stop herself from shivering under his touch. “You were fidgeting in your seat all through the meeting and you didn’t say a word. If you’re not feeling well…” He touches the back of his hand to her forehead as if he’s checking her for a fever and she closes her eyes, breathes through the fresh spike of arousal. “You are a little hot,” he says. “And your face is flushed. Look, I can handle this, if you wanna go home—”
“I’m fine,” she snaps and wants to cry. She needs to get off so badly, and now here he is, standing so close to her she can feel his body heat, and he smells so good, and she can’t remember ever being this turned on in her life. All because of his stupid mouth that, right now, just won’t stand still.
“You’ve been pushing yourself hard lately. It’s really no big deal, I’ll tell Skinner that you’re—”
“Shut up,” she growls at him, and the last thread holding her together finally snaps. She spins around and shoves him up against the elevator wall before grabbing his head in both hands to pull him down into a fierce, hungry kiss, moaning as she manages to get his thigh between her legs. The sudden pressure against her aching clit feels amazing and she pants against his lips as she rocks into him. She feels lightheaded with relief.
“Scully,” he says, surprised, but then his hands are on her ass, pulling her tighter against him.
“Your mouth,” she groans. “All, fucking day, god, Mulder, do you know what you’re doing to me?”
He needs no time at all to catch on, and his teeth grazing her neck is almost enough to push her over the edge. But the elevator stops with a slight jolt, the doors sliding open, and she doesn’t protest as he lifts her up by the backs of her thighs. She wraps her legs around him, lets him carry her down the short hallway to their office, the promise of release pushing her arousal to new heights.
“I didn’t know,” he says right into her ear, voice low and full of something that makes her shiver.
“Would you have stopped if you did?”
He sets her down on the edge of the desk, and his eyes are dark, the bulge at the front of his pants unmistakable. “Probably not,” he admits, and sinks to his knees.
She can’t stop looking at him, her heart speeding up at the look on his face as he works her out of his skirt. There’s something dangerous in his expression and she wants him, she wants him. He doesn’t ask, doesn’t speak as he rips her pantyhose, pushes her underwear aside, and buries his face between her legs.
Her head falls back and she cries out, hoping nobody followed them down here, but honestly, she wouldn’t care, would beg him to keep going, even if the whole crowd from that meeting were watching. Shit, she’d let him fuck her on that conference table in front of everyone right now.
He swipes his tongue through her folds and moans. “Fuck, you’re so wet,” he says, and she wants to answer, wants to tell him it’s all for him, but he sucks her clit into his mouth and she forgets how language works. Her legs are hooked over his shoulder, his hands holding onto her thighs, and he’s eating her out like his life depends on it. She thinks her life might actually depend on it.
The ferocity of her need is unbearable, every cell in her straining, burning, her mouth open in a voiceless scream as she feels her body reaching it’s breaking point. Her orgasm rips through her violent and fierce, a ruthless current of electricity that shatters her into a million pieces.
He rises to his feet and she vaguely registers him unzipping his pants and shoving them down his legs. He’s so big, she thinks, so hard it looks painful. She does her best to wiggle out of her panties as he pulls them down her legs and off. She can’t do anything but let him take what he needs, and she’s wrecked, boneless, helpless as he steps in between her legs and finds her opening. He thrusts in hard enough to lift her off the surface of the desk. And she wants him, she still wants him, aftershocks rippling through her, and they’re not done, not yet.
He picks her up, carries her over to the wall with his cock deep inside her, and she clings onto him as he starts fucking her with a feverish urgency that leaves her breathless. God, she loves it when he needs her, loves it so much she’s not surprised when she feels a second orgasm building inside her. She clenches hard around him as he pushes in with amazing force again and again, her back arching off the wall as she comes a second time. He keeps going, teeth sinking into her shoulder as his moans rise in volume, and she’s on the verge of discomfort when he slams into her one final time and stills, his moan deep and broken, his fingers digging into her thighs hard enough she knows there will be bruises.
They sink to the floor together and she curls into him as he pulls her close. “Did that help?” he asks, and she laughs, her voice hoarse and tired.
“It helped. For now. Thank you.”
“Hey,” he says. “Anytime. By the way…” He kisses her hair and rests his cheek on the top of her head. “You can just ask next time. You know, instead of zoning out on an entire meeting.”
“Yeah,” she says, “you may have to catch me up on what we were actually talking about up there.”
“In a minute,” he promises, and she’s fine with that.

summary To JYPE, the solution is simple; take the sole trainee that will not debut with your brand new girl group, and use her to replace the missing vocalist in your male group that insisted on starting as nine.
Unfortunately, to the fans and the members themselves, it isn't that simple.

You're choosing to ignore the noise that you know clouds the air online as you file into the underside of the stage on the tail of the boys, early enough in the morning that they are still yawning and blinking bleary eyes open, coffee clutched in their hands.
Stay offline, they'll all tell you, and make sure you sleep too, but you're no good at either; sleep is hard to find in the face of what hovers over you in three days time, and it's almost worse to not know what's going on where you can't see it than to keep a finger pressed very casually to the pulse. Just to know what they think. Just to know what to expect when you inevitably come face-to-face with them.
Not that you'll see them too closely. Four songs on one day, that's all you were here for. No fan meetings, no signings. Not that you had a problem with that, when those four songs alone came with a mountain of nerves to climb and conquer and sure, you'd been taught how to feign confidence until your voice didn't waver and your feet kept dancing, but that stage...
You come out onto it from underneath, following eight sets of feet up a narrow set of hidden stairs, and stare upwards at the seats that line the hall. It's lucky you're at the end of the line, your feet rooted to the ground on the final step by the sudden, unnerving terror of being faced with that ring of empty space; the stage that stretches out before you seems so small compared to the towering walls of the hall, so far into the ground when you look up at the final row of seats and see them hovering far above you as if to look down from the heavens.
Chan glances back from the middle of the pack as they spread out across the stage, checking that everyone is present, and beckons for you to join them, the smile on his face a message you can't decipher. Maybe he takes pleasure in seeing you speechless, or maybe he's just excited to share this with you - or relieved that you finally made it here after he staked everything on believing it would happen. Even with his invitation, you still can't find it in yourself to move though; not until a manager's gentle hand pushes you up that final step and onto the stage, the surface thumping quietly under the fall of your feet.
There are so many things you don't know, wandering across those boards while the others spread from corner to corner, jumping around or stretching or arranging bottles of water at its edge. They look so comfortable here, following a routine their bodies intrinsically understand, while you are...lost, your hands wringing nervously as you gravitate towards Chan in the centre of the stage.
He's still smiling though, his hand reaching out to stop yours from pulling themselves apart. "Still okay?" he asks, repeating the first question he'd put to you upon seeing the looming height of the convention centre this morning.
"Mmm," you reply with a mouth that has forgotten how to shape words. "Not really."
"Do you want to go back downstairs for a moment?"
You focus on him instead of the seats for a moment, the warm feeling of his hand where it brushes your arm, the slow fade of his smile into something more focused on the problem, and how he can fix it. "No," you say, before he can get any further ahead of himself than he already has, and force a breath down into your lungs. "I'll get used to it. I just need something to do."
"We'll warm up in a minute," he assures you, and twists to look at the four boys that are gathering on the edge of the stage behind him, squawking at something they've seen down below. "Unless Han falls off the stage. Then I might just give up and go home."
Your eyes stray over his shoulder to the boys teetering on the edge of the platform, the toes of their shoes hanging over a fall that is far from fatal but still not ideal. As if he'd heard your conversation, Han crouches in the centre of them all, wobbling back and forth - it's the hand that Changbin wraps around his arm at the last minute that saves him, tugging him back on his heels just before he can tip too far forward to save himself.
"Are you going to stop them?" you ask Chan, and very deliberately put your hands in the pocket of your hoodie as if you are completely relaxed, willing him not to turn around.
"I'm trying really hard not to look, actually," he answers, and then he turns thoughtful. "Maybe I should make it your job to try and stop them, if you need something to do."
"I don't think I have that kind of authority here," you say, huffing a laugh. "You've killed any respect they had for their elders."
"I know. Lee Know is working on it," Chan sighs, rubbing at the back of his neck.
"He has no respect either."
Chan's eyes flick to you, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth; and he doesn't count the joke out loud, but you know that in his head he is adding it to his tally. You're not sure how he remembers what number he is up to, or why he even bothers when you throw them out so sporadically, numerous one day when you're feeling bold and then nothing on other days when the urge to cower at the sight of the group chat or all of them loudly laughing together is too strong. And recently you've started to throw them out in person too, rather than just in the safety of your messages with him.
Maybe he just makes the numbers up as he goes along. You haven't been keeping track of the total he says each time any more than you suspect he counts the jokes.
"I'm glad this is an English concert, actually," he says suddenly, snapping your attention back to the present moment.
You frown in confusion. "What?" you ask, wondering if you'd spaced out for a moment and missed something he'd said.
"I was just thinking," he answers. "I'm glad we'll be speaking English this week."
You still don't follow. "Why?"
"Because if we're speaking English, you'll talk to me like this on stage."
You can only stare at him for a moment. Processing what he'd said, and the way he'd said it; genuine, with that smile still hiding in the corner of his mouth. "I don't know if I'll be able to say anything on stage," you say when the words have sunk in, scrambling for a response. "I'm going to be busy trying not to mess it up."
"Oh, come on," he scoffs. "You don't need to do that. Nothing is going to go wrong."
Somehow, his brazen confidence eases some of the tension in your chest. Maybe because he plays at being so entirely convinced that it's kind of funny; maybe because he'd already thrown you off beat a moment before and you're still reeling. "You cannot tell me that you believe that," you say; a joke, but a weak one, testing the waters rather than diving right in with any of the other responses that spring to mind.
"I am a hundred percent sure everything will go perfectly," he throws back without hesitation.
"Are you?" you tease, egged on by the grin that bites at his face. "I feel like you've basically cursed us now that you've said that."
His smile very deliberately falters, his mouth flattening into a put-upon line. "Go and warm up," he sighs dramatically, waving a hand. "No more talking about curses. Go on."
Your own smile doesn't budge as you turn away, sticking to your face until you gather with the others in the centre of the stage, stretching and loosening stiff and cold muscles, a warning to your body that it is nearly time to dance. It goes by in a flash with the distraction of Changbin's loud voice in the background and the complaints of the younger boys around him every time he yells, the laughter that the group shares. Chan was right, too; the distraction is just what you need, the laughter easing the anxiety that squeezes at your chest so that by the time you sort yourselves into the opening formation of God's Menu, you can almost imagine that it's just another day in the practice rooms at home.
"Ready?" Changbin asks as he rounds out the back of the formation, a hand held out flat between you.
You slap it with your own, loud enough that the sound echoes across the stage and he rescinds, shaking his palm out like it stings. "Ready," you confirm, adding strength to your voice so that he will believe you, and then you turn you backs on each other, crouching down back-to-back.
You spare Hyunjin a small smile, now in front of you where he crouches as well, and then drop your head as the music starts, counting the beats to the moment where you will jump to your feet.
It comes quick, barely four bars past the moment that that loud, discordant beat kicks in; quick enough that every time, it feels like it takes your breath away as Hyunjin turns to the side and you rise to your feet, only a moment before Felix and I.N shift outward too and reveal you to the empty crowd. It occurs to you again, in the fleeting of moments that passes between beats, just how terrifying that could be on the day that it matters - how it could be so easy to freeze in the spotlight and forget what you're supposed to do and where to go after-
"Ne sonnim!" you shout to an invisible audience, your throat remembering by itself the power that Changbin has beaten into you in the days since you'd taken the part and your hand rising into the air. Someone whoops into the microphone as you take your swift step to the left, out of Changbin's way - you almost laugh, but your concentration turns too quickly to the choreography and your place in the crowd, careful to stay out of Chan's way as he moves forward and you move back.
It gets easier from there, until the second verse comes around - hide at the back and keep up with the rest, part of a unit rather than leading the way into the light. Your parts follow on naturally, short and sharp movements paired with similar vocals in the verse, and then the relatively easy task of standing still and filling your chest with your voice while they continue the dance around you in the pre-chorus.
And then, the bow at the end, the struggle not to stop and gasp for a breath of air in the five seconds of silence that follow.
Hyunjin is the first to fall on the third runthrough, sitting with a dramatic flourish and signalling the start of a break for everyone. Minho rolls a bottle of water across the stage to him, and then holds one out to you - you take it gratefully, your throat already dry just after one song. Nerves, you think as you sate your thirst and then pass the bottle off to I.N.
"Happy?" you ask Hyunjin, still on the floor close enough to your feet that you're mindful of not stepping on him as you shuffle around, keeping your feet moving.
He groans, his head rolling backwards to look at the ceiling. "We still have to run through Hellevator," he says, which is not an answer to the question, but not a complaint either. No news is good news, you assume, and nudge his bottle back towards him again as it wanders away down an imagined slant in the stage surface.
"You have a whole day off tomorrow," I.N points out.
"No I don't," Hyunjin replies, unscrewing the cap of his water bottle. "I have schedules to go to."
"So do I," Seungmin puts in from behind you, a shadow at your back as he circles around to join the group.
"No, you don't," I.N says, his eyes tracking him as he walks. "The only thing we're doing is going out for lunch."
He flips the empty bottle in his hand up and down idly between two fingers as he speaks, his attention elsewhere. You can see the glint of playfulness in Seungmin's eyes as they mull over what he's said, and then look down, tracking the movement of the bottle - you don't see his hand before he whacks it out of I.N's hand and watches it bounce away down the stage, laughing at the look of disgust on the younger boy's face.
"Do you want to come out for lunch tomorrow, noona?" Seungmin asks while I.N is distracted by the bottle.
"I want to come out for lunch," Hyunjin says from the floor, carefully placing his own water out of Seungmin's reach.
"You're not invited," Seungmin throws back before he can be convinced. "Unless you're paying."
Hyunjin screws up his nose and turns away, climbing to his feet instead of answering. Minho calls your names from the other side of the stage only a moment later, the backing track of the new song they'd added just for you queuing and then stuttering to a stop over the sound system. "I'll come out for lunch," you answer Seungmin as you walk, I.N falling into your shadows. You specifically don't say anything about paying.
"Good," Seungmin says, "because we're making a vocalracha vlog."
If he notices the way your stomach drops at the mention of the vlog, he doesn't say anything, and you don't either - stupid, really, to feel nervous about the prospect of a camera pointed at you when you've spent all these years chasing that exact dream. Not to mention the amount of cameras that have caught you in their vision in the past - from instructors, and evaluations, and TV networks, and online content.
But to do it with them, for their fans who, so far as you've read, don't seem very interested in seeing you with them...the thought kind of turns your stomach upside down. Makes the sweat running down the back of your neck turn ice cold all of a sudden, your skin shivering at its sudden touch.
"What are you worrying about?" I.N asks you suddenly, appearing at your shoulder.
"What?" Seungmin says on your other side.
Before you can answer, I.N cranes his neck to see the other boy and says, "She's worrying about something again. Look at her face."
"What?" you echo, and if your face wasn't screwed up in consternation before, it is now. "My face isn't doing anything. How would you know? You were behind me the whole time."
"You can pull expressions with the back of your head?" Seungmin asks. "That's weird. You're weird."
You arrive in the circle of the rest of the group like that, I.N looking at Seungmin like he has something equally witty that he wants to say. Chan leans behind Seungmin with a funny twist to his mouth that says from one look, he knows exactly what you're going through, and wordlessly offers you a microphone. You pull down your headset as you take it and tune out whatever Seungmin says next, calling up the lyrics to the next song as the music starts.
You note, as you sing the first line, that the tension in your chest has eased away as quickly as it had tightened. You have a feeling that was I.N's perogative the entire time. Either way, you're grateful.
"Annyeong," Seungmin says to the camera that sits heavy in his hand, hoisted up to keep its lense from catching the sun as you walk down the street. "This is our vocalracha exclusive outing. No one else is allowed."
"Stay is allowed," I.N says beside him, poking his head into frame just to give Seungmin a look that the camera will catch, and they start off on an argument that plays out so naturally you can almost forget that the camera is there at all.
Except that you can't, because every time you stare into the face of it from where you're hiding on one side, your stomach drops and your limbs stiffen like they don't know what to do with themselves, anticipating the moment that it turns onto you.
Not that you haven't seen a camera before, or even had to produce this kind of content. The survival show you'd once done had loved this type of content just as much as any other, and there was always someone recording something in practice rooms, whether it ended up online or not...but this felt different somehow. More revealing, or more public, maybe, because of the audience that would surely be waiting to watch it. Because of the way that audience felt about you, lain out so clearly in a hundred comment sections online for you to see.
"You know who is invited," Seungmin says, cutting over whatever I.N has just told him with little regard for the other boy's opinions. "Our noona is here to buy us lunch."
You blink, and the eye of that camera turns to look at you in the moment that you aren't paying attention, cornering you within its gaze. Ignore it, you tell yourself firmly around the lump that begins to form in your throat, and turn your head to look at Seungmin instead, trying to remind yourself of the conversation topic. "Is that the only reason you invited me?" you ask, and resist the urge to wince when it comes out flatter rather than playful, the joke choking on itself before it can even reach your tongue.
Seungmin doesn't miss a beat, his lips pursed like he's thinking about it. "Youngest always pays," he says.
Behind him, you can see I.N's gaze turn sharp, already preparing to be the next one under fire. "I'm older than you," you point out mildly, not wanting to swing the conversation one particular direction or another.
"Grandma always pays," he fires back.
"You can't just change the rules to whatever you like," I.N says.
"Says who?"
"Everyone," you tell him.
"Do you even know where you're going?" I.N asks.
Seungmin scoffs. "No. That wasn't my job."
"Why are you leading then?"
"I'm following Stay."
Their attention snaps so naturally back to the camera that it feels like whiplash, like you're lagging one step behind and you can't quite catch up. You tail off again as Seungmin starts explaining your day and what you're doing after this to an invisible audience, sliding back out of view and into your comfort zone to the side of the camera, forcing a breath right down into the bottom of your lungs.
You're going to have to get used to this, and the idea that everyone is going to see everything you do. It's silly to try to dance around it when there is no way out, but still, you let yourself slip away when you can no longer muster the strength to hold yourself within view of that camera, promising that another day you will try harder. Another day, it will come easier, and you will stand there and chatter on to that lense without thinking twice, just like the boys do.
Today isn't that day though. Neither will tomorrow be, and the day after-
The day after, you are on stage, for all the world to scrutinise in full view rather than in a box on a computer screen.

"You can go out when you're ready," the stylist tells you with a final adjustment of the hem of your shirt, gently tugging the creases into just the right position. "Have a good dress rehearsal. Let me know if there's anything we can fix."
She moves out of the way of the mirror so that you can see the entire piece. It's a simple concept, really, dark and grungy to fit the group's ongoing concept and yet pulled off in pieces of soft cotton and the glimmering gold of the plain rings on your fingers. You could almost imagine yourself sitting at home doing nothing, except for the makeup that sharpens the lines of your face and deepens its shadows, the embellishments that dangle from the loose cargo pants that cover your legs and the way that the hoodie's sleeves billow artfully at your sides. A safe outfit for a first performance, except for the strip of skin that shows at your midriff whenever you move, the shirt's hem cut at just the right length to expose it.
There'd been a lot of back-and-forth over outfits in the past few weeks. You'd only been privy to the part of it where they'd asked how much are you comfortable with and you'd answered I don't mind what I wear, and then the fittings afterwards in which there was a new outfit every time, but you knew there'd been...discussions. Arguments. Mistakes, nearly, and since then it seemed like the entire group's styling had been toned down to accomodate the lack of agreement over yours, which was-
Music starts playing upstairs somewhere, blaring from the speakers and then cutting off again. "Thankyou," you say to the stylist, who is already busy with something else, and cut across the room to where the boys are gathering around a manager who is handing out equipment.
"Ah, noona!" Changbin says as you approach, his voice deliberately pushed high and light to match the broad smile that crosses his face. "I haven't introduced our noona yet!" A camera follows him, latching onto you before you have time to duck away - you swallow the nerves that suddenly pile onto your chest and focus on the smile you're giving Changbin in greeting and the table behind him that you're trying to reach.
"Hello Stay," you say to no one, waving at the camera for the two seconds you're comfortable enough to look at it. You busy yourself with the search for your equipment on the table as an excuse to turn away and collect yourself, preparing for the onslaught of questions that you know Changbin has been told to ask.
"That's right, Stay," he says to the camera in your peripheral vision, filling the empty space that would otherwise be left. "Just for you, we brought our new member to LA to show you just how cool she is. Right, Y/N?"
There, over in the corner. "Yes," you say over your shoulder and then grab the bundle of cords and monitors, careful not to tangle anything. "I've come after a long time to join everyone here."
"You hear that, Stay? We trained her for a long time just for you."
The way that Changbin fills the air all on his own is like a weight lifted off your chest, giving you a chance to breathe while he natters on about the schedule and how he expects the performance to go and whatever else happens to come to his mind. Hyunjin's arrival provides further relief; you busy yourself with the equipment in your hands while you hang in the background of their show, appropriately on camera and yet out of the way of the spotlight while you pretend to be too busy to talk.
The in-ears pack unravels itself in your hands, a long string of cord and a monitor that nearly slips from your hand as you separate it, conveniently providing a real distraction rather than the one you were pretending to focus on. You clip it at your hip before it can hit the floor, your other hand reaching up to feed the cord down your back.
"Ah, wait, wait, wait," a voice says behind you as you try to tug the cord down through your shirt, and then warm fingers brush the back of your neck, brushing your hair away from a knot you hadn't realised had formed at your collar. Your head turns so that you can see Chan out of the corner of your eye, picking at the cord until it falls freely down your spine. You catch the other end of it with your hand, turning to face him as you plug it into the monitor.
"I don't know how I did that," you admit with half a smile, quiet enough that the camera behind you won't pick it up.
"Five minutes in and you're breaking things already," he returns, his fingers gently shifting a lock of hair out of the way of the cord. It slips from his fingers as you turn to face him, adjusting the way that the earpieces fall over your shoulders and dangle around your neck.
"I like the outfit they gave you," he says as you take in what they've dressed him in - artfully designed cargo pants, just like yours, and a sleeveless shirt that's half-tucked at the waist, detailed in silver. "The SKZ style suits you."
"You think so?" you ask, looking down at yourself again. Too self conscious, you know, but you're mindful of what it might look like from the outside, what the fans might think of you when the boys move aside and they see you for the first time on that stage- "It's not too..."
"No, it's perfect," Chan insists. "You look good."
You struggle to keep your face from turning red as you say, "Thanks." By the way his lips pinch together, trying to swallow a smile, you're pretty sure you fail.
"Are you going up now?" he asks, a hand pointing to the stairs that lead to the stage.
"In a minute," you answer. "I just need-" You spy the object you're looking for as you speak; your headset, neatly wrapped on the other side of the table. It only takes a moment to unwind, looping it over your head and reaching back to feed the cord through again.
"Have you tried using a microphone?" Chan asks, circling around you again to free the cord from your collar before you can displace everything.
"I thought it would be better if my hands were free," you answer. "Maybe next time I will."
"Use whatever you want," he says, watching as you hook up the headset and shuffle its components into a space where they are comfortable.
When you're done, he offers you a hand, his body twisted towards the stairs. "Ready?" he asks.
You glance behind you before you take the hand that's offered, looking for Changbin's camera. You find it in the corner of your eye, pointed safely at Felix as he endeavours to take uninterrupted selfies up against the back wall. When you turn back, Chan is still waiting, his hand steady and his patience unending, as if he'd stand there an eon if it meant you would walk up those stairs with him.
"Ready," you say, the word dragging all your breath out with it, and you take his hand, the warmth of his palm sinking into your cold fingers and the strength of his grip dragging you up into the world above.

A squeal of delight that echoes in the large, empty space is all the warning you get before a body barrels into you, uncaring of the phone held in your hands or even if you're looking up when she meets you.
Minseo, her hands cold and her body familiar as she hugs you tight enough to squeeze all the breath out of your lungs and then pulls away to look at your face with a smile that you feel like you haven't seen in decades. Her cheeks are pink from the cold air outside, her gaze alight as a giggle rises to the surface of her breath at the luck or the absurdity of you meeting in this place, at this time, after so long apart.
"I can't believe you're here," she says, as if you haven't known for weeks that you would be in the same hotel at the same time, scheduled to perform the same day. "I can't believe I'm here. God, we have so much to catch up on."
"I can't believe I'm here either," you answer. "After everything that's happened this year-"
"Don't you dare tell me you might not have been here," Minseo threatens, one finger prodding at the air between you.
"Maybe I was going to say we might not have been here," you lie.
She sees through you immediately, arms crossing over her chest. "No, you weren't."
No, I wasn't. "Are we hanging out in your room or mine?" you ask instead to distract her.
Her eyes stray to the desk behind her, where her managers and the rest of her group wait patiently. "Well I don't even have my room yet, so..." her voice trails off suggestively, her back turning on her team with the conviction that tells you she would abandon them here without a second thought if you let her.
"Get your key first," you say, reaching out and pushing her back towards the desk. "I'll come up with you."
"But I can't wait that long to hear what you've been doing here for three days," she whines.
"Nothing special," you insist.

Nats daughter is going on her first mission and it doesn't go well. She's hurt and lost somewhere until Nat finds her and brings her back home
Send Out An Army
Tumblr media
Word Count: 1.4K
————
Natasha was beside herself with worry. Her one and only baby girl off on her first solo mission. You’d been arguing with her for weeks, trying to convince her you were ready. It was only natural that she was worried but you had gone through the academy training just like everyone else. Natasha finally agreed to let you go when she sat in on your training session with Steve and you managed to knock him on his ass three times. You left a few hours ago and so far Nat had tried training, reading and even resorted to doing her paperwork to keep her distracted. She was in her office now, trying her best to keep her eyes off the clock.
It was quiet in Natasha’s office, so the sound of her mobile ringing took her by surprise. An unknown number appeared on the screen so Nat was skeptical about answering. She brought the phone up to her ear whispering a hello and listening to the crackle coming from the other end. “Hello?” Natasha asked again, being met with the same silence. She was about to hang up when a small voice called through “mama?” It whispered. “Y/n?” Natasha said, pulling the phone back up to her ear “baby are you okay?” She asked with a panicked voice. “Hurts mommy” you mumbled “what hurts baby? What’s happened where are you?” Natasha frantically asked as she made her way to find Tony and the rest of the team. “Lost” you coughed through the phone.
Natasha came bounding down the stairs where she met Clint and Steve in the kitchen. “Natasha?” Clint said, seeing the fear in his best friends eyes. “Y/n baby talk to me, where are you? What hurts?” The redhead said as she dragged the boys down the hall with her. “I don’t know mama” you cried as Natasha switched her phone to loud speaker “baby have you activated your tracker?” Your mom asked as Clint filled Tony in best he could of the situation. “Lost it. I’m scared mommy” you mumbled. “It’s alright sweetie we’re gonna find you I promise” Natasha cooed down the phone. “Stark where is she?” Steve asked as he joined Tony at the computers. “I’m not sure, somewhere in Bulgaria” he said. “How can you not know where?” Steve said frantically “it’s not standard procedure only Fury knows the exact location” Tony said, trying his best to hack into S.H.I.E.L.Ds files as quickly as possible. “Then call Fury!” Clint shouted.
You began coughing loudly over the phone “mommy” you cried. “It’s okay baby girl take some deep breaths for me alright we’re gonna find you” Natasha said as calmly as she could. Tony continued to scan the files as Steve headed off to gather the rest of the team and prepare the quinjet. “Mm tired” you said through the phone “y/n I need you to stay awake for me okay sweetheart” Natasha said, fighting back her tears. “Y/n?” She questioned when you failed to answer her “y/b baby talk to me” she pleaded. “Tony find her now!” Clint shouted, taking the phone from Nats hand “y/n its uncle Clint, can you tell me where you are? What’s around you bug?” He asked, pleading for you to respond. The silence was deafening as the three waited desperately for your voice to come back through the phone. “She’s in Yambol!” Tony cheered as he finally cracked your location “okay Steve’s on the jet let’s go” Clint said. “She’s dead I know she is” Natasha cried “hey don’t go there yet, we’re gonna find her” Clint comforted as he guided the redhead to the jet.
~~~~~
It felt like weeks you had been lying in the grass, the sharp pain had long ago turned into a dull ache and you were struggling to keep your eyes open. Your cries fell into the open space and you fought to keep your breath, the warm pool of blood being the only thing keeping away the cold. “Mom” you whined into the empty space, pleading for your mother to come and find you. You held on for as long as you could until your eyes finally fluttered closed. In your last consciousness your ears began to ring, sounding like a small crunch of leaves along the ground. Your mind started playing tricks on you, the sound of your mom calling echoing through your head.
Your shoulders began to shake and a soft hand against your cheek pulled you back into reality. “Y/n come on open your eyes baby” a familiar voice called. “Mommy?” You mumbled as you pealed open your eyes “I’m here sweetie, mamas got you” Natasha cooed as she lent over you protectively. “You found me” you smiled up at your mom “yeah we did baby” Nat said as she gently stroked your hair “we?” You sleepily asked. “Hey kid” Clint said as he came to your side and began tending to the open wound on your abdomen “we’re gonna get you home alright” he said. You groaned as your uncle pressed down on your injury, quietly crying out in pain. “Shhh sweet girl it’s ok, you’re okay now” Natasha comforted you “thought I was gonna die mama” you weakly said.
Natasha lent her body down beside yours to give you a tight hug, avoiding your wound “oh my baby I’m so sorry” she said. “I should never have let you come this is all my fault” your mom cried. You slowly reached up your hand to wipe away your mamas tears “no mommy” you whispered “you saved me” Natasha took your hand in hers and gently kissed it. You cried out again as Clint pressed down on your abdomen “sorry kiddo” he empathised “so tired” you groaned, eyelids fluttering closed “no no come on sweetie keep your eyes open for us ok” Natasha pleaded “you’re gonna be alright baby we’re gonna get you home” your mom cooed. You tried to keep your eyes open but being back in your mamas arms you couldn’t help but bask in her comfort. Before long you lost the battle, falling into unconsciousness. “we need to get her to the jet” Clint said to Natasha.
~~~~~
You felt a gentle scratch along your scalp as you began to wake up, unsure of where you were and almost who you were, until you opened your eyes. “Hey baby girl” Natasha said as she rose to her feet by your side. Her red hair was messy with loose pieces falling by her face, the bags under her eyes were a give away as to how long you had been out. “Mommy” you croaked out “you look tired” you said. Natasha let out a small laugh as a stray tear fell from her eye “oh y/n, I’m okay I promise, you’re the one who needs looking after right now” she said “we look after each other mama” you smiled, attempting to sit up but stopping as a sharp pain shot through your abdomen, reminding you off why you were in the infirmary. You sighed loudly as Natasha softly took a hold of you “easy baby, just lie back ok” she said as she helped you to lay back down “you get some rest ok, we’ll talk later when you’re properly awake” your mom said as she placed a soft kiss on your forehead.
It was a few hours later when you woke up again, your mom still sitting by your side. “There’s my girl” Natasha said “look who’s here to see you” she said as she pointed to the man on the other side of your bed. “Uncle Clint” you smiled “thanks…for what you did” you said sadly “hey none of that” Clint said as he saw your eyes well up “don’t you dare go blaming yourself kiddo, missions go wrong, whatever happened wasn’t your fault” he said. “It was” you cried “what did happen sweetie?” Your mom asked. “The brief said the facility was abandoned, but when I got there it was crawling with agents” you began, your mom placed a comforting hand over your own. “I set off the alarm trying to get in through the back door, I tried to get away and I thought I’d managed but when I stopped in the woods an agent came up behind me. I didn’t think he had any weapons so I fought him without mine but he pulled out a knife. I fell down when he cut me and I thought he was gonna kill me but they called him back to the facility” you sobbed.
Natasha felt the anger rise in her chest “the brief was wrong?” She asked “imma kill Fury” she said, answering her own question. “Mommy don’t go” you called after her as she headed for the door. “I’ll go, you stay here” Clint said as he guided Natasha back over to your bed “you’re not as scary as me” she giggled as she sat back down with you “no” Clint said “but the least I can do is warn Fury of angry mama Nat” he said as he pulled the door closed. Your mom turned her full attention back to you as she sat next to you on the bed “I’m here baby girl” she cooed “it wasn’t your fault ok” she said as she brushed your hair away from your face. You dropped your gaze, still feeling guilty despite what Natasha said. “Hey” your mom said as she lifted up your chin “I am so proud of you” she said “why? I failed” you whimpered. “I’m not talking about the mission, I’m proud of you y/n” Natasha said, leaving a soft kiss on your hairline.
“How did you find me?” You sleepily asked “Tony hacked into S.H.I.E.L.Ds data base” Natasha said. “He did?” You questioned “yeah he did” Nat answered “everyone was so worried “I’ve never seen Bruce move so fast” your mom giggled. You let out a small laugh at the thought. “I didn’t think they’d all come” you said “I knew you’d find me mama but I didn’t think everyone else would come to get me” you mumbled, almost falling asleep again. “They’re your family baby, of course they’d come” your mom cooed “you know they care about you right?” Natasha asked “I know” you smiled up at her “you’ve got a whole army of love and protection behind you y/n, don’t ever forget that” Nat said as she tucked you up in your baby blanket, she made sure you had it the second the team brought you to the medical bay. “Rest up okay baby” your mom cooed. “Can you read to me mommy? Please?” You asked with half closed eyes. “You never have to ask twice sweetie” Natasha said as she pulled your book from her bag, another essential she’d grabbed along with your blanket. Her soft voice lulled you into a comfortable and deep sleep. The deepness with which she spoke her words causing a gentle hum throughout the room. Your mom continued to read long after you had fallen asleep, comforting both you and herself.

daisies, i think- bucky barnes
~ bucky barnes x fem!reader ~tags/cw: angst, budding friendship and romance, set in CA:CW timeline where Bucky is in Romania trying to piece back together his life, mixed POV ~ wc: 1.2k ~ not proofread
premise: ex-avengers employee, you have moved to Europe in order to get away from all things Shield. It is in Romania that you bump into a familiar man, a face you have only seen in the secret files you managed to get a glance at. You befriend the ghost of a man, determined to help him undo all the bad the world has done to him.
"You like Jasmine, right?" Bucky asks from across the small coffee table.
"Uh, yeah. How did you-?" You grin at him, eyes squinting in apprehension at the sudden declaration.
"I can remember some things," he answers and returns to the bowl of steaming noodles. "Not everything, but some things." the clarification comes a moment later.
It's been two months since you moved into the small apartment on the outskirts of Bucharest. Two months of living in close quarters with Bucky, two months of getting to know him on a level you never thought you would. Two months.
You clear your throat and ask. "What kind do you like?"
"Daisies. I think." He doesn't look up from his bowl, but you can see a hint of a smile tugging at his lips. "I saw them a lot while…"
Still unsure of how to refer to the period when he wasn't himself. "They grow everywhere, so I can always find them, and they're nice to look at."
The noodles sit abandoned in front of you now. Your attention has shifted wholly onto James, who continues to eat despite disclosing something that shattered your heart. He never stopped being that young boy who was lost, never stopped looking for life in the depths of hell, never stopped being Bucky.
"You gonna write that in your book?"
The question catches you off guard.
"You have that little book you write in. I thought it was a diary but you only write in after I tell you something. Plus I saw my name a bunch’a times”
Your cheeks flush.
"Is it bad stuff?" Bucky looks up now, blue eyes broken and defeated.
"No! Nothing bad!" You rush to answer, scrambling for the book you tucked under the table and flip it open to your latest entry. "It's all good things, actually. Stuff that you like or remember or stories you tell me."
Bucky's posture relaxes, shoulders sagging a little at the assurance you weren't keeping tabs on his slip-ups.
You continue, opening to a page filled with drawings of stars and planets.  "This is when you told me that you went to the Stark expo before you shipped off and how you wished you could see space one day." you point to the stars that adorn the margin. "That's why there are little stars. I've been writing it all down so that if one day you need to remember something and we aren't together, I can give you the book, and you'll have all your memories."
The heat in your cheeks deepens as you confess your reasoning behind the notetaking.
"Steve, your umm…"
"I know Steve," Bucky confirms with a slight smile.
"Steve has a book just like this with all the things he missed or wants to remember, so I copied him." it feels infantile using the word copied, but you can't think of anything better. "You can have it now if you want?'
"You leavin' me?" The sadness returns for a split second.
"No." your answer is firm.
Light floods his blue eyes, shimmering like the sun on the ocean. "Then keep it. I'll take it when you finish it."
There's hope in his words. Determination that he will remember who he was and who he hopes to be. You find yourself smiling at that, admiring how much he is trying and how you can see yourself finishing this book and starting another.
-------------
"Do you think we should get some curtains?" your proposal has Bucky pausing in the kitchen, boiling water sloshing in the small pot he had just pulled from the stove.
He looks to the windows, plastered with newspapers to keep out prying eyes, and while he never thought about customising his apartment, your suggestion stirs something within him.
"If you want." the answer feels so domestic and ordinary that he forgets who and where he is. For a moment, he is no longer in a dingy apartment on the run and unstable in his own identity, but he is at home with you. He is in an apartment in Brooklyn, not far from where he grew up, in a small and cozy one-bedroom flat that he shares with you and your cat. You aren't the kind and strange girl who picked him up off the street like a stray, but you're so much more, someone he wishes he met in another life. He watches you frame the window with your fingers, face crinkled as you close one eye and determine the best shape and style of drapery for the space. His heart squeezes, a feeling wholly unfamiliar in his aching body.
"I can get some tomorrow after work?" another offer of complete and utter everyday ease. "Yellow? With daisies?"
Bucky grins at that.
"Or pink with jasmine?"
A small laugh escapes you, and you drop your hands. "One pink and one yellow?"
Bucky nods and returns to emptying that water from the pot, watching as the potatoes drop into the colander in the skin. He had offered to cook tonight, an easy recipe he had overheard while out today from two older ladies sitting in the square, their voices loud and bousitruous despite the sensitive nature of their conversation. The recipe was easy enough. Boil potatoes until soft, season them and cook them in the oven. Simple, easy. Perfect for his muddled mind to follow.
"Want help?" Your voice is closer, and Bucky jumps slightly. You reach out and grab his arm, hoping not to scare him further, but Bucky's heart starts in a race for an entirely different reason.
He gulps. "No need. thank you, ma'am." the words fall from his lips before his brain can form them.
"Ma'am?" you furrow your brows at him. "Where did that come from?"
Bucky turns to you, his face crinkled in confusion as he shakes his head. "I have no idea."
There is a beat of silence as you reach into your back pocket for the small book you had stuffed in there after your walk home. You open it to a blank page and date it to the top before writing your entry.
Calls people ma'am.
"Not people, women. " Bucky sighs as he reads over the edge of the paper. "Ladies, dames, girls."
"Dames?" laughter is building within you as he cites different words for women, most of which you hadn't heard outside of a movie from the forties.
You can't stop the laugh that spills from you, and soon, Bucky follows suit, enjoying how his stomach and shoulders feel as he laughs. It feels good, beyond good; its amazing, divine, marvelous, s'wonderful.
"You are a funny man, Bucky Barnes." You sigh as the laughter subsides, a hand sweeping over his shoulders. He notices how your fingers linger on the joint of his prosthetic arm, and for some reason, he doesn't feel as much guilt filling his stomach like lead. When they brush down his arms to entwine with his fingers, another sensation takes over his gut entirely. It's tingly and hot, twisting and sitting low in his body. He worries it's a bad feeling, familiar in a way that has his mind screaming, but there is no fear, no guilt, nothing but warmth like the sun on a winter's day, so he sits with it and lets you hold his hand until the timer on dinner dings.
a/n: apart of a bigger fic but this is sort of the first taste of it to see how I feel about writing/posting it.

I think I want to point at the elephant in the room today
The problem when we have the ever more frequent conversation of how to keep a fandom alive after the show it's based on stops airing is that we tend talk about it in a way that ignores the very real differences between the juggernauts of old fandoms like Star Trek and newer shows like Dead Boy Detectives, namely:
1. The difference in amount of material
2. The accessibility of said material
Part of the reason why Star Trek or The X-Files still have active fans so long after they aired is because those shows had multiple seasons with an average of 20 episodes each. For the X-Files' 11 seasons that's about 200 episodes each with their own storylines, themes, interesting ideas and frustrating mistakes right there to inspire Fanart, fic, meta, and any number of fanwork. I'm not even going to do the math on Star Trek: this show got about a bazillion shows
Dead Boy Detectives, and a lot of genre shows nowadays have like... Eight episodes. Ten, if we're lucky. Fandoms for procedurals or more broadly appealing shows fare better (Lone Star comes to mind, or sitcoms for example) because networks tend to keep them online longer, but genre series get ever shorter with ever fewer opportunities to really grow an audience... Think of all the shows that got popular on Tumblr in the past few years and tell me how many got a proper season? Shadow and Bones was cancelled. My Lady Jane: one season. Gentleman Jack, two (three?). Good Omens: maybe 3, depending on how the network handle the Gaiman situation. The Umbrella Academy got four seasons. Stranger Things, with 5 seasons and 42 episodes managed to equate roughly 2 seasons of the X-Files (probably not even that if you account for episode length). The Witcher currently has 3 seasons for 24 episodes.
Contrast this to shows like Dead Boy Detectives with, again, eight episodes. Maybe 16 if we get really lucky, but I'm not holding my breath. This is just materially WAY LESS soil for a fandom to grow in. It's not that people aren't motivated, it's that as much as you want to keep it going, there's only so much to say about 8 episodes! George Rexstrew, who plays one of the leads, even recently admitted that he's running out of things to say about his performance, and who can blame him? So after a while, you gotta turn to AU which by definition are always going to be potential hits and misses, since they diverge from what brought people to the show in the first place.
I know we're all real good at spinning yarn but sometimes it gets really hard not to run out of fiber.
As for accessibility: the Big Olds benefitted from two things. One, they were broadcast on much wider-reaching channels, if not from the start, then when they eventually made it on public networks. They had a regular play time, and you could stumble onto them by accident, this getting interested and picking it up. And two: the popular shows had a decent chance of getting tape or DVD sets, which made them easier to own and show to your friends so they could binge the story and join you in the fandom
By comparison, look at the barrier of access for Dead Boy Detectives:
Need to have a Netflix account
Need to see it somewhere in your recommendation (good luck if you come in more than a month after it released)
Need to see people talk about it as they binge (need to be in the right place at the right time, and by that I mean where fandom happens since Netflix has a habit of doing zero advertising for new shows)
Need to keep paying for a Netflix account if you wanna rewatch, or figure out how to do a piracy, which is getting more difficult and riskier every year
Need to be willing to get invested in a forever unfinished story
And when on top of that the writing in the first episode is, let's say it frankly, far from the best, that is a LOT of obstacle to overcome for a pretty small sandbox
So like, yeah, sure, we should be willing to keep making a fandom happen after a show ends, but at some point we can't ignore that the effort it takes to keep fandoms alive is getting way more intense than it used to be

I see your vampire!Bruce Wayne AU and I raise you this:
Normal human Bruce Wayne raising his horde of vampire/dhamphir children, but because Bruce is Bruce no suspects any of the Batkids are, well ... bat kids.
Even the Batkids are confused at first when they first meet Bruce. Batman shows up and they're like:
"Oh, shit it's Batman! The very scary, very territorial Vampire Lord who's completely taken over Gotham and has managed to strike fear into the heart of all the most notorious vampire leaders! And he wants to adopt me into his coven? Sounds sketchy, but aight."
Only for them to wake up the next day and realize that not only is Batman in fact NOT a vampire, but he's also the most pitiful and pathetic human they've ever laid their eyes on and there's no fucking way they can leave him now.
Humans are already super fragile and easy to kill as is. And their new guardian is risking his life every night masquerading as an all powerful Vampire Lord!!!!
It's honestly a miracle that Bruce hasn't been killed yet and there's no way they're going to let their clueless human guardian wander off by himself. Especially after they realize he keeps forgetting that humans aren't supposed to be awake for 72 hours straight and his skin is paler than the giant hoards of case file documents he tries to sift through while barely touching his own food.
This poor idiot human is so committed to pretending to be a vampire that he's actually convinced himself he has night vision and spends more time hanging out in a literal Batcave than he does in his own fucking house!
Meanwhile, Bruce is thoroughly convinced he's got a complete handle on the whole raising vampire/dhampir children thing. After all, it's not like he's had to change much about his own personal life to that of a parent taking care of a horde of supernatural children.
He already spends more time awake at night anyway and while the kids don't mind human food absolutely love Alfred's cooking, it's not difficult to get a hold of any blood when they actually need to feed on something more substantial. Considering he's the biggest contributor to Gotham's blood donation centers, it's not like anyone's gonna tell him no.
Bruce also read somewhere that while vampires in the modern age don't actually need to hunt humans to feed anymore (considering the above mentioned donation centers), their hunting instincts haven't gone away, either. So while he was initially against the idea of letting his kids getting involved in his vigilante lifestyle, it was probably a good thing in the end that they had an alternative outlet for their growing vampiric urges. Like Alfred, he would have preferred it if they had gotten into competitive sports or something similar instead, but all his children had proven themselves to be just as stubborn as he is so he made do with what he could.
Especially considering the fact that a parenting article he read mentioned how extremely sensitive young vampires/dhampirs are towards the well-being of those who make up their coven. Dick, ALONE, had proved how absolutely futile his attempts to separate his night time and day time activities truly were. Apparently, it was detrimental to young vampires to be separated from their parents/guardians for too long. Better he trained them and supervised them himself versus having to re-experience Dick, Tim and Cass stalking him like the supernatural predators they were while doing his nightly patrols.
And if any of his children leaned a bit more into their feral nature whenever Bruce happened to get hurt on patrol, that was just kids' instincts reacting to the head of their coven being threatened. It's taken years of training, grounding and long late night discussions to convince his children to try holding back their supernatural strength and bloody acts of retribution. He still finds himself lecturing them from time to time even if he's fully aware they're all humoring him.
He still has the small collection of baby fangs that Dick had somehow roped all his younger siblings into contributing to over the years. For the life of him, he can't begin to fathom why anyone would want to collect teeth or why his children are so adamant that he holds onto theirs. But ever since he jokingly mentioned the Tooth Fairy to a horrified and offended younger Dick when his first set of baby fangs finally started coming in, it seems his children are determined to make sure no one can even attempt to think about exchanging their fangs for mere quarters.
And for the record (and despite what his children and friends keep on insisting), he never set out to actually pretend to be a "Vampire Lord." He just honestly thought designing his costume around one of his deepest fears would be a good way for him to use that fear against the criminals of Gotham.
He also won't admit that he completely forgot about the obvious association people make between bats and vampires.

"SUPE"R Flexible
(Soldier Boy x You)
Billy Butcher forces you to babysit Soldier Boy. Ben doesn't know you're a supe, until one night you have a nightmare and things get quite heated between you both 🔥❤️‍🔥
Warnings : Contains SMUT (of course it does, it is soldier boy 😆😜)
(I laughed so hard at one of the lines I came up with {sad I know} let's see if you guys can figure out which one it is 😂🤭)
Tumblr media
When Billy Butcher showed up at y/n's door, it was like a bomb going off in her quiet life. He had Soldier Boy in tow, a weathered and battle-worn soldier with a haunted look in his eyes. With his gruff voice and rough exterior, Butcher asked her without any pleasantries to keep an eye on Soldier Boy for him. Bewildered and taken aback, y/n reluctantly agreed, uncertain of what she had gotten herself into. "Don't worry sweet cheeks, you won't even realise I'm here" Soldier Boy commented as he pushed past her and plopped himself down on her sofa.
In just under an hour, Butcher had a few things delivered for Soldier Boy, which mainly consisted of booze, drugs and pornos. She turned a blind eye to all that. She knew what Soldier Boy had endured before he was put in that chamber over 40 years ago. As long as he didn't trash the place she left him to it. She only occasionally got annoyed with him when he wouldn't clean up after himself, or that he would just decide to walk around the apartment naked most of the time. Although she really didn't mind the latter part, he was easy on the eye after all.
The first few days after Butcher left seemed like an eternity. Y/n and Ben, which she now called him after a much heated argument, her telling him she wasn't gonna keep shouting Soldier Boy all the time. They managed to avoid each other as much as possible, their interactions limited to awkward greetings and fleeting glances. Y/n couldn't help but feel a mix of curiosity and unease whenever she caught glimpses of the man she was now responsible for. "Why don't you take a picture doll face, it will last longer" Ben said to her as he could feel her stare at him. Smiling to herself, she got her phone out and took it. He glared back at her as he heard the camera go off. He yanked the phone out of her hand "hey, you break it you will buy me a new one".
She watched in amusement as Ben studied the object in his hand. She knew she had to teach him about all the changes that had happened over the last 40 years he'd been "asleep".
He agreed reluctantly to let her show him all the new things like how smart TVs work, a laptop and obviously a mobile phone. He wasn't going to let on that he was enjoying spending time with her. Ben still had a lot of trust issues, he was let down by what was supposed to be 'his' team. Something in the back of his mind was telling him that he could trust y/n though.
Butcher had failed to mention to Soldier Boy that y/n was a supe just like him. Though to look at her you wouldn't tell she was one. Her frame was tiny although she was quite tall and she didn't have the muscle structure he had. Her powers were more to do with flexibility. If needed, y/n could squeeze herself into any small space or through the tiniest of gaps no one else could. Her bones were like elastic, making her able to bend into any shape she needed to.
Y/n, like Ben had been through a rough time. When Butcher found her she was so close to death he thought she would never make it. He didn't know of her powers until he took her to the hospital and they did all sorts of tests on her. Telling him she shouldn't have survived what she had endured and that it was a miracle she'd survived at all. It was then he asked starlight to do a little digging. He sent her a photo of y/n and asked if she could get info on her. Starlight found y/n's file at Vought HQ and told Butcher she was made into a supe. She was supposed to be a part of Homelander's team but she refused. Resulting in him torturing her endlessly till she caved, but she never did.
Nights were the hardest for y/n. Filled with restless sleep and vivid nightmares, she found herself tossing and turning, unable to find solace. And then one night, Ben heard her screams of distress. His instincts kicked in, and he rushed to her thinking she was being harmed.
Ben shook y/n awake, some concern etched on his weary face. Startled awake, she went into attack mode to begin with, but as soon as she realised it was Ben and looked into his eyes, in that moment something shifted. There was a connection between them, a spark that ignited a passion deep inside of her that she had never felt before.
Ben backed away from her as she regained her senses and breathing pattern. He stood in her doorway, staring at her. "Why don't you take a picture it will last longer" she shouted out at him making him laugh loudly. "What's so fucking funny Ben, You never seen someone having a nightmare before" she shouts at him, getting up from the bed ready to have yet another argument with the stubborn supe.
The air was thick with anticipation as Ben and Y/N exchanged smouldering glances across the room. What happened next surprised y/n. With only a couple of steps, Ben was right in front of her. His chest heaving as he tried to decide whether he wanted to fight her or kiss her. "What the fuck are you doing......." Before she could finish, his lips were attacking hers with a force that knocked her off her feet. His arms instinctively wrapped around her waist as she tried to fight the kiss. As much as she tried, she felt herself melting in his arms, kissing him back with as much force and passion he was giving to her.
The apartment became their steamy playground, each corner serving as a canvas for their passionate encounter. The living room became a shrine to their love, with every piece of furniture playing a role in their fiery dance. He practically threw her over the arm of the sofa, taking her from behind. Every drag of his cock sliding in and out of her pussy made her moan. Her walls pulsating and squeezing his penis tight.
After he finished with her on the sofa, y/n found herself pushed against the wall, her breath catching in her chest as Ben's hands roamed her body with urgency. His touch was electric, igniting a wildfire within her. She surrendered to him completely, allowing him to conquer her body in the most untamed ways. He grabbed her ass and lifted her up, her legs instinctively wrapped around his waist, his erection thrusting into her hard and fast once again.
They moved them from one room to another, fuelled by a fierce hunger that knew no boundaries. The kitchen countertops bore witness to their unbridled passion, as ingredients and utensils were forgotten in favour of more sensual indulgences. Y/n took Ben in her mouth, sucking and licking the underside of his dick, taking him fully in her mouth almost gagging as he thrust deep into her throat, making his cum shoot down her esophagus.
The bathroom became a sanctuary of pleasure, steam masking their fervent exclamations. Water cascaded over their entwined bodies as they abandoned themselves to a raw desire, their moans echoing through the apartment like a symphony of ecstasy. Ben sunk to his knees, his face buried deep in her pussy, licking and sucking at her clit, his tongue plunging into her core.
With the bedroom as their final destination, their union intensified. The sheets twisted beneath their weight as they moved with a primal rhythm. The room became an arena for their love, sweat-slicked bodies colliding in a chorus of gasps and cries. With one final thrust and an orgasm that he thought would nearly kill her, Ben collapsed beside y/n. He looked over at y/n noticing the satiated look on her face "well, you've surprised me doll, didn't think you'd be able to take all of what I just did to you. I'm impressed" he said quite smugly.
Y/n rolled her eyes at him. She got out of the bed and tied her robe around herself "I see Butcher didn't tell you everything about me then" she said whilst not looking at him. Ben quirked an eyebrow at her as she turned round to face him. "I'm just like you Ben, I'm a supe". Ben shot up in the bed and crawled over to the side y/n was standing grabbing her waist "well yeah he kinda failed to mention that. Why didn't you tell me". He seemed annoyed and a little angry. Y/n's hand caressed his cheek pulling him in for a kiss "well you know now".
Tumblr media
He pulled her back onto the bed and hovered over her "so, what's your super power then" he asked as he nipped at her neck and collarbone, "let's just say, I'm very, very flexible" Ben's head shot up to look at her face, a small smirk playing on her lips. "How flexible are we talking" he asked with a look on his face that gave y/n shivers "oh honey, you could bend me like a pretzel and it wouldn't hurt me" Ben growled at that comment and was ripping the robe from her body "shall we put it to the test then". For the rest of the night and into the early hours of the morning Ben had had y/n in every imaginable position he could think of.

aziraphale is pretty sure attempting to sneak a demon into heaven is a bad idea.
forget the fact that he’s the supreme archangel. forget the fact that the second coming is not going at all according to plan—his plan…the ineffable plan? forget the fact that he and crowley haven’t had a moment alone that wasn’t interrupted by muriel or maggie or nina or a legion of demons or the end of the world.
forget the fact that crowley hasn’t taken those wretched sunglasses off since…
it’s definitely a bad idea.
crowley is wearing a cream-colored suit over one of those turtlenecks with a gold version of his usual scarf, saying something about heavenly bees, but whatever joke he’s trying to make falls flat because all aziraphale can think is, i could appoint you to be an angel, you could come back to heaven, and isn’t that the pinnacle of cruel irony?
he understands why the disguise is necessary; it’s the not-so-subtle rub-in-the-face from a bitter demon squeezing his heart into a fist. it’s the prick of unease in the back of his mind that something isn’t quite right, the floor is at an odd angle, that book belongs on a different shelf. at the same time, it’s the you’re gorgeous he’s longed to return since before the beginning, sitting behind clenched teeth every day for 6,000 years. and it’s the realization that this was not what he imagined at all.
“this the one?” crowley asks, flipping through a file laid out on michael’s desk. “supreme archangel, and they’re still keeping secrets from you, huh?”
aziraphale would appreciate it if crowley would refrain from certain reminders. “yes, that’s it.” he looks around the pillar he’s taken to leaning against, waiting for the inevitable repercussion of being caught in the act. his suit is newer, sharper, grayer, but at this rate, all the worrying his thumbs have been doing to the fabric of the jacket is bound to have him looking his normal self. he supposes crowley sees something similarly foreign whenever he looks at him.
“wait, these are—”
“i know.”
crowley’s frown deepens as he rummages through the papers and documents and photos that aziraphale spent so long staring at, debating if coming back to beg crowley for help was worth the knife wounding his pride, and whether crowley would simply twist it instead and tell him to fuck off.
(he did, at first.)
too many things on the tip of his tongue—another apology, a frustrated yell, the heavy memory of crowley.
“you were right,” he settles with a sigh.
the demon pauses, considers him, then closes the vanilla folder, dragging the projected holograms back into the file. aziraphale braces for an “i told you so” or the self-deprecating laughter that’s made an increased appearance in wake of his leaving. the damn sunglasses render his expression unreadable, a book aziraphale regarded himself as an expert on, but now he isn’t so sure he’d ever gotten the words right to begin with.
then crowley is smiling at him. no sneer, no malice. crowley’s smile is small, two parts sad and muted expectations, and aziraphale feels like he’s being offered something important, more than a title, more than a job, more than the opportunity to fix the unfixable, though he certainly tried, and he’ll be damned before he lets it go. it’s still angry, but it’s so much realer than anything aziraphale has felt up here for months, and aziraphale knows. he knows they need to talk, and even if they’re just as irreparable as heaven and the whole system, he knows which one he’ll be devoted to mending.
“can i get that in dance form?”
and suddenly aziraphale knows what it is to soar without wings.
he doesn’t get the chance to respond before michael’s approaching voice sends him into a panic. aziraphale hopes the click of heels on white porcelain tile will drown out the sound of their own shuffling as he lunges for crowley, who just manages to grab the file they came for, and pulls him around the pillar.
there aren’t many good hiding places in heaven. why would there be? it’s supposed to reflect truth and dispel lies. the good thing about being an archangel, however, is the ability to alter heaven’s layout, although minutely. you want a desk? there. you want to lengthen the hallway from uriel’s office to yours? done. you want a slightly darker corridor leading into the wall a few feet to the left of michael’s desk? aziraphale does.
he almost shushes crowley’s quiet yelp of surprise when he frantically presses the demon into the alcove out of sight, and aziraphale feels the punched-out exhale more than he actually hears it.
it’s deja vu. they’re back in tadfield manor except crowley’s holding a folder containing plans for judgment day trapped between them, and aziraphale’s the one with his hands clutching lapels like they might leave with another stinging don’t bother. the moment is dangerously loaded because fuck, aziraphale has no idea where crowley’s sunglasses got thrown in his haste, and crowley’s looking at him, really looking at him, without dark lenses to hide the way his eyes flicker down or the split-second fear that flashes across them.
aziraphale is crushing their chests together, and crowley is caving under him, and jesus isn’t here yet, but there wouldn’t have been room for him anyway.
“angel,” crowley breathes, and aziraphale knows it’s a slip of the tongue because crowley hasn’t called him that since they last parted ways.
aziraphale’s mind is a constant loop of yellow, yellow, yellow, and it takes every ounce of remaining self-control in his body not to lean forward and do what he should’ve done months ago. he doesn’t have quite enough left to pull back though, so he’s stuck on the verge of never knowing how to ask for what he wants, always too good at backtracking for their own safety, afraid to do it now because he really thought last time was the last time, and he doesn’t know if crowley can take another rejection.
aziraphale doesn’t know if he can either.
any sound of michael has disappeared.
aziraphale reckons this is the part where he’s supposed to say something like, “i’m not nice. nice is a four-letter word.” aziraphale reckons crowley might even agree with him. he doesn’t feel nice; all these millennia of you go too fast for me, crowley, and i don’t even like you.
their noses bump as crowley shifts his head. “aziraphale,” he says. it makes the angel want to cry. “‘s alright.”
so crowley’s catching the bullet this time, and that’s all it takes for aziraphale’s grip to loosen. he steps back—all too familiar a motion—and watches the demon smooth himself out.
“crowley, i—”
“nah,” he interrupts, waving the file in his hands. “talk later, remember?”
aziraphale relaxes, wonders what miracle gave him this and who performed it, wonders which stars aligned and whether crowley knew about them. the angel nods.
neither speaks again until the elevator doors are closing and the angel disguise has fallen away.
crowley, in all of his too-tight pants and infinite patience, doesn’t even look at aziraphale when he says, “dance later, too.”

Rickorty Week Day 3: Caught
1.2k | secretly married | warning for language
@rickortyweek
“Jesus Christ, Jerry, go get the accountant, would you?”
Beth’s hands shake around the tax filer. She taps the sheaf of papers against the desk to try and straighten them but it ends up just making things worse, sheets fumbling out into her lap. W-2s. Proof of health insurance. Unemployment papers for Jerry. And that’s just last year’s; she’s pulled their last seven returns, which she keeps in big binders in a filing cabinet in the home office, like they always suggest.
She can tell her husband is making a face without even looking at him.
“He said he charged,” Jerry pauses, “what, two thousand flurbos an—”
“FILING ERROR. FILING ERROR,” the big stone head in the middle of the office says, again, thumping the ground for emphasis.
“I don’t care. Call him,” Beth says.
“We don’t know the conversion rate!”
“I know that if we don’t file these correctly beyond a shadow of a doubt, our bodies, and our children’s, are going to get repo’d. That’s what I know, Jerry.”
“Alright,” Jerry says. “Fine.” Shoulders slumped, he shuffles out of the room. The intergalactic equivalent of the IRS manages to be equally drab as its US counterpart– or maybe worse. Beth had no idea there even was an intergalactic equivalent of the IRS you could be audited by until she was pulled right out of her living room and into space like how cows got sucked up into flying saucers in movies. She’d had a nasty looking gun pointed in her face by an alien and ten minutes to gather ‘the needed tax-related materials’ to ‘rectify a filing error.” She didn’t even have time to finish her glass of wine.
Now she’s stuck in this office under threat of losing her own bodily autonomy. With a lot of paperwork. And a big stone head in the middle of the floor thundering “FILING ERROR. FILING ERROR.” as it pounds on the ground like the Easter Island equivalent of a Turbotax fuckup.
She has no clue what’s wrong. Maybe something lingering from the divorce? Unless Jerry has some bank accounts in Turks and Caicos he hasn’t told her about, she’s pretty much fresh out of ideas. She leans over in her chair, twisting her hands in her hair, wishing she had a glass of wine. Perhaps several.
As she stares at her bare feet (she hadn’t had time to grab shoes) she hears Jerry come into the room, followed by small, light footsteps. When she looks up, a nerdy alien in a polo shirt and khakis is sitting down across the desk from her. He has weakly wavering gray antennae, like everyone else that works here, and a laptop under his arm.
“Hello, Mrs. Smith. Sounds like there’s a problem you’d like my help with?”
“FILING ERROR. FILING ERROR,” agrees the stone head, loudly. Beth is starting to get a really bad headache and she knows it isn’t from the Cab Sav.
“I think something is wrong with my previous tax returns? Or something?” she says, pushing her stack of papers towards the accountant, which the accountant eyes, twirling one of his antennae between his fingers.
“What planet?”
“Uh. Earth?”
“Ah, I see. Earth tends to be a particularly tricky one. You humans can never make up your minds. Makes keeping accurate records a pain.”
“Frankly, sir, I have no fucking clue what’s going on. Pardon my language. This has never been a problem for us before.”
“Well, Mrs. Smith, if you’re willing to go line by line with me…”
“For the last seven years?”
“I’m paid to be thorough.”
Beth’s going to pull her hair out.
“Isn’t there anything you can do to just, like, make it faster? Please.”
The accountant does some sort of equivalent of pursing his lips that might translate more clearly with different mouth anatomy.
“Alright. Let me check my system for any inconsistencies.”
He opens up his laptop and begins typing away.
Gingerly, Jerry rests a hand on Beth’s back. “See, honey? Look at him go. I knew he was worth it.”
Her phone rings, inexplicably. But of course, anything is explicable, considering what her father is capable of. She picks up on the second ring.
“Beth.”
“Dad?” she asks, as if it could be anyone else. She watches as the accountant pulls a small device out of his pants pocket and starts scanning some of the papers with it, seemingly at random.
“B-Beth, sweetie, tell me something. Are your personal taxes being audited by the intergalactic equivalent of the IRS right now?”
“How do you know?” she asks, instantly, then winces, then hates herself for wincing. This is obviously some Dad shit. There are antennas and strange electronic devices and angry space bureaucrats, which means it has Rick Sanchez written all over it.
“Ah, jeez, fuck, okay.” Her father sounds oddly panicked, voice strained.  “L-listen, don’t. Don’t tell those squares anything, just wait until I get there–”
The accountant looks up. “I’ve found something, Mrs. Smith.”
“Ooooh, he’s found something, Beth!” Jerry echoes excitedly.
Beth takes her phone away from her ear and rests it against her shoulder.
“Yeah?’
“You seem to have some kind of error with the status of a family member’s filing.”
“What do you mean?” Faintly, she can hear her father saying Beth? Sweetie? on the other end of the line.
“Mortimer Smith is listed as a dependent, here.” He points at a line on his laptop screen that’s highlighted in red.
“Yes, of his mother.” She shoots a look at Jerry, who’s gone quiet.
“Hmmm,” says the accountant, squinting at his screen. Beth’s stomach feels strange.
“He’s seventeen. He’s my son.”
“According to our records, he’s been filing with Rick Sanchez since 2016.”
Two years ago. Beth’s stomach drops. “You mean, he’s like, what, Rick’s dependent now? Like Rick fucking adopted him?”
Suddenly scenarios of Rick whisking Morty away for real, forever, without her knowing, are flashing through her head. Taking him away on an adventure that he’d never come back from, far away from her. Who knew what he could do. How he could make her sign papers and forget she’d ever done it. Her forehead and armpits start to break out in clammy sweat and she wipes her suddenly damp hands on her pant legs.
“No, jointly filing,” the accountant says coolly, as if it is nothing. As if it is the most normal thing in the world. “As a spouse.”
In a flash, a slimy green disk opens in the middle of the room. Beth watches as one long, long, knobby leg steps through, then another. The ratty edge of a lab coat and one gray hand holding a portal gun.
“First of fucking all,” her father says, as soon as his head bursts through, “let it be known, I didn’t– I didn’t want you to find out like this, Beth . This is pretty m-messed up, even by my standards. Second of all, fuck the government and all the little snitching bitch peons that work for it. Third of all, before you aAAUGGHsk, it’s not, it’s not legal on Earth. So don’t worry about that, sweetie.”
Beth is very still.
“CORRECTION ACCEPTED,” says the head, mouth clacking. It had stopped shaking the table with its movement. It seems smug, in fact.
“See, Beth? Not legal on earth,” Jerry echoes, cheerfully. His face falls.
“Wait. What?”

For today's lunchtime porn, how are we feeling about some angry!sex? (Lunch breaks are for writing smut, aren't they?)
Whatever he’d expected when she showed up at his door that night, it hadn’t been this.
She’d looked so angry when she’d stormed in, tossing a file folder onto the small table by the window, telling him, fury in her eyes, “Here’s your fucking autopsy report. Don’t even bother reading it. I didn’t find a damned thing.” He’d felt bad for not listening to her. He’d still tried to argue his point.
And now here they are, on their knees on a creaky motel bed, the frame rattling as he pounds into her from behind. Her hands are gripping the slats of the headboard, bracing herself as she pushes back against him, and he holds onto her hips and doesn’t hold anything back.
“All day I spent in that morgue,” she pants, “all for nothing.”
He groans. She can’t let it go, even now. “It was our best lead and you know it.”
“No, Mulder.” She gasps as he hits a particularly good spot, but it’s not enough to make her let this go. “What I know is that I told you there was nothing there. And I was right.”
“Fuck,” he growls, and changes his angle until he gets her where she needs it on every thrusts, determined to make her beg for more. “You could have just as easily been wrong.”
“But I wasn’t. Oh god.” She drops her head and moans. “Harder.”
Irritation spikes in his chest. “I can’t fucking go any harder.”
“Seriously?” She throws him a look over her shoulder. Her face is flushed, and he can see she’s enjoying this. “I spent hours wasting my time on one of your insane hunches, and this is all you’ve got?”
He clenches his teeth and reaches one hand up to grab the headboard for leverage as every last shred of control falls away. He drives into her with a force he didn’t know he was capable of, and finally she lets go as well, rewarding his efforts with the most beautiful sounds he has ever heard. “You want it like this?” he asks, his voice rough. “Then fucking take it.”
“Yes,” she breathes, “That’s better.”
They’ll break the bed, he thinks, and she can explain that on their expense report. She’s the one who asked for this. He holds her in place with his free arm slung around her and, with his last functioning brain cells, wonders if this should feel as good as it does. “God, Scully,” he manages, and she moans out loud.
“A little more, just—” She slips a hand between her thighs and he knows she’s close, and he’s relieved because he honestly doesn’t know how much longer he can keep this up.
But he will make her come, and he will make her come from this. He’ll make it so good for her she’ll be too fucked out and orgasm-high to continue this stupid argument. He doesn’t know why he thinks that will mean he’s won, but he’s not thinking straight, so it doesn’t matter.
She comes hard, crying out loud enough for the neighbors two doors down to hear her. He falls over the edge right along with her, ramming himself into her as deep as he can go, filling her up as the world fades to black for a second.
As reality swims back into focus, he’s on his back with her half draped across him, and he’s exhausted, but it feels amazing. “Holy shit, Scully,” he says, and she laughs softly against his chest.
“Yeah. I think that sums it up.”
“That was…”
“A very good end to a very long day?” she suggests, and he cards a hand through her hair and leans up to kiss her forehead.
“Are you…are you okay?”
“Better than okay.” She sighs. “I don’t really remember what we were fighting about, to be honest.”
“You were angry because I made you do that autopsy—” He bites his lip, mentally kicking himself for bringing it up again.
She raises her head to give him a dark look. “Oh. Right. The one I repeatedly told you would be entirely pointless.”
He closes his eyes and puts one hand over his face. “Scully…”
“I mean, seriously, what were you even hoping to find…”
He groans. He should have known better than to think he could win this one, but he’s definitely not ready to give up.

“Are we ready? Cameras are rolling? Yeah? Alright… We’re here at the site of the historic Tulpar Massacre-”
God, I thought I could handle this. He’s not even said anything but Tulpar. Fuck, I need to tune it out. The images are already flying through my mind. I’m reliving it all at lightspeed and it keeps fucking repeating. Every second I’m seeing it all-
“Behind us is a long-haul freighter that belonged to a company known as Pony Express. This corporation was known for cheap and speedy deliveries, along with being one of the last few companies to rely on human employees in an age of automation.”
I hope they know. We’re all heroes today.
“However, while Pony Express may have provided jobs to hundreds of people, the abuse these employees suffered is the real root of this tragedy.” Zac puts his hand up and turns his head to me. “Would you like to say a few words?”
“Huh, oh- No, I trust you.”
He nods, short and with a small smile like he’s seeing it all happening behind my eyes. Maybe he knows I'm not listening. Trying to, anyway.
“Employees aboard Tulpar were only allotted a mere FIVE hours for rest. This does not include recreational activities, which they were not allowed to do in the other nineteen hours in their day. NINETEEN hours, non-stop working around Tulpar.”
His eyes are on me. He wants to know if I’ve changed my mind.
“That’s not the worst part, oh no, friends,” He says when he realizes I won’t, “For a company that claimed to care deeply for its employees, they made it hell to file complaints or go to upper management for help. While on this year long trek-”
My stomach is in hell. I cover my mouth, pretend I’m stifling a cough, and swallow the vomit before it floods their headquarters. Think about something else.
Anything, Anya. Anything.
“Joining us for our lock-in tonight is the sole survivor of this tragedy, Captain Grant Curly.” He opens his arms to welcome me into the frame. “We’re happy to have you here, Captain.” He says, shaking my hand.
“Happy to be here with you, fellas,” I lied.
We aren’t even to the door and I already see the inside. We’re simply standing in a residential space travel unit, on the landing pad, which connects to the main door. To the lounge, my quarters. The cockpit, the medical bay. The lounge. Utility. The Pod.
“Captain, off the record,” He nods for his partner to turn off the camera,” In all seriousness, I want to express my appreciation. Please know that at any point you can bow out. Or if you don’t want to be in the episode at all. You just let us know if you need a break or leave all together.”
I smile. I have to or else I may break.
“Of course. I think more people need to be aware just how awful Pony Express was to us. It’s great that you guys are covering this.”
They’re all waiting for me at the door. Swansea and Jimmy cross their arms and grumble something about dying to get started. Two grouches on the ship could be difficult. But Anya and Daisuke are chatting about expectations. She’s stitching the air, mimicking the motions shown in a textbook on her lap. Daisuke copies her and she rolls her eyes playful, remarking that she’s glad he’s not her intern. Swansea tells her to not give him ideas.
“Captain, where’d you go-”
“Besides, who is a captain without his crew?”
“You really loved them, didnt you?”
“Yes,” I say.
They were my responsibility, I don’t.
Zac smiles back at me before stepping back and observing the map of the ship. He mumbles something to his crew, all of two other people, and they go separate ways to gather equipment. Zac marks something with what looks like a bingo blotter around the blown-up image of my ship.
“Zac?”
My face looks back at me in question. I’m in my uniform, bent over the blueprints of my ship. My belt buckle, a gift from the company when I was promoted to Captain, shines in the harsh light of the ship.
“Yes, Captain?” I ask.
“Uh,” I start, running a hand over the dim and rusted buckle of my own, “Why do…” I have that look. The one like he sees it all before it all comes back to the front of my mind. Zac blinks and leans forward.
“What’s up, Cap?” He asks.
“Can you read minds… or something?”
“Ha!” He laughs, hearty and true. “No, nothing like that Mr. Curly.” He wipes moisture from his eyes. “I’ve been told I’m something of an empath."
“Ah, no wonder you’re so kind.”
Zac starts to say something, but his crew is back and dropping equipment on the floor with heavy grunts and sighs.
“Guys! You need to be careful-” Zac rushes over, but I’m still standing at the table.

Despite Part 2
Tumblr media
A/N: Female reader, posted on mobile so rip formatting.
Summary: Trust is a two way bond. It only makes sense that after you look after him he looks after you.
Warnings: None
Word count: 2218
AO3 Part 1 Part 3
A light touch shook you awake and your eyes crept open. It took you a few moments to realise who had woken you. “Not very professional to be sleeping at your desk, Doctor.” Your head rose from your arms and you turned to look at your Captain. Your brow cocked and his words slowly sunk it. The gears moved in your brain and you figured out he was teasing you. Wesker of all people…
“Well, it's not very professional to show up at your employee's house uninvited.”
“Redfield insisted.”
“I didn't realise you took orders from Chris now.”
“You were unresponsive while on call, it was a wellness check.” Those sunglasses bore into you and you rolled your eyes to the side. There was a small side smile on your face, the motion hadn’t been a disrespectful one but rather a playful one.
“Alright. Sir.”
“Are you planning on sleeping here all night?” He asked.
“No, I was just resting my eyes. What time is it?” You looked towards the computer that was in screensaver mode and moved the mouse. It woke and you saw that it was only an hour til midnight. You cursed under your breath, so much for just resting your eyes. “I'm surprised you're still here.”
“I had work to do.”
“Everyone's doing their reports tomorrow.”
“I had other work as well as the reports. I don't have the luxury of pushing it off until tomorrow as I won't be in.”
Your brows shot up. “Oh? Busy?”
“Sunday is my day off.”
“You have days off?”
The question had him let out a laugh and your breath hitched at the sound. It was an unheard-of sound, a low chuckle that had blood rush to your face and heat it up. “Of course. Did you assume I worked every day?”
“Well, you’re the Captain. So yeah.”
“Overworking can lead to mistakes. I do not make mistakes. I thought you of all people would under this, Doctor.”
“Who keeps this place from falling apart without you?”
“Marini can manage for one day of the week.”
Your mind went to the Bravo team’s Captain. Despite him working in the same department, you often forget the man was a police Captain. Wesker was the one with the ‘fancy’ office, he was the one to usually call the shots and he was the one you looked to for direction when needed. Not Marini, but then again, you didn't interact with the man very much.
“Have you finished your work?” Wesker asked and you glanced back at the computer.
“Yeah, I just need to turn it off.” You moved the mouse to it shutdown.
“Good, we can leave then.”
You froze for a moment before you glanced over your shoulder and looked at him. “We?” You asked.
“Unless you have other plans I presume I was to give you a ride home.”
“Oh, Captain, you don't have to do that.”
“You rode with us to the station, your bike is at home. It's far too late for a taxi or the bus and you live on the other side of town. You're my employee, it's my job to take care of you.”
His words had you stunned momentarily. Even though he said the facts in such an obvious manner you couldn't help the way that they made you feel warm inside. It was nice knowing he was looking out for you.
“I guess you're right. You really thought this through, thanks.”
“If this is your standard of thinking things through then I suggest against spending so much time with Redfield. The bar is too low.” He took a step back from your desk and gave you enough room to get out of the chair.
You let out a snort and put on your jacket. Your vest and medical kit had long since been retired to their homes elsewhere in the building. “Did Chris tell you where I lived?” You asked as the pair of you walked together.
“No, it's in your file.”
“You looked up my address in my file?”
“I memorise everyone's files. They aren't long.”
Your mind went back to when you were in his office with Chris and how he almost immediately knew whose number Chris had paged. “Wow, you have a great memory.”
“The small things make all the difference between life and death.”
The statement had you sombre up slightly and you looked towards the ground. You knew that painfully well. Recognising and remembering even the smallest of symptoms could mean the entire world of difference when it came to what treatment a person received.
“Hey, Captain?”
“Yes?”
“Why did you take this job?”
At your question, he briefly glanced at you. “Why do you ask?”
“No offence but I would expect you to be something… more?”
He stopped in his tracks and turned towards you. “You believe this work is beneath me?”
“I mean uh-” You stumbled for a moment to recover yourself. “You're a smart man Wesker. Really smart. Hell, you're more precise and perfect than a machine. I mean I get paid my value but this work is hard sometimes. Long hours, the shittiest cases and a world of accountability and pressure. Someone with your skills could easily find employment somewhere easier with better pay.”
Wesker continued to stare at you. It was as if he was trying to figure out if your words were genuine or if you were just sucking up to him. You knew better than to try and correct yourself more, the last thing you wanted to do was overthink the situation and say something you would regret. Every second was agonizingly slow and eventually, he cocked his head slightly to the side, his deduction complete enough to answer.
“You’re right. I could. And I probably will eventually but for now it's the exact fulfilment I need.”
The answer had you slowly nod and he returned his own question. “Why do you ask? Are you thinking about leaving?”
“No, just interested in what motivates my Captain.”
Despite the fact he stood still you could have sworn the lights got a little darker around him as he continued to look at you. “And why is that?”
“Finding out someone's core values is integral to any relationship. For example, Jill respects determination. If she's had anything near to close to what I experienced being a woman in this day and age I can safely bet she's been given a lot of hurdles in life and most likely given where she is today, overcome them.”
“You think a lot about this.”
“Understanding my team helps me bond with them and bonding creates trust. In the field, I need my team to completely trust me without a doubt so I can do what I need to do without hesitation.” You explained.
“I see. You analyse people. Why not analyse myself to find out the answers to your questions?”
“I have. I'm not sure if you have noticed but you're rather a closed-off person. Not only with your private life, which I respect, but also for who you are. Sometimes the best approach to a matter is the more straightforward one. If you answer me, I receive an answer, if you don't…”
“You continue to watch me?” His voice sounded almost amused. “Wait for any slip-up?”
“No. I'd respect you on the matter and let things go.”
“Just like that?”
“Just like that. I'm a reasonable woman Captain, I’m not stubborn when I don't need to be. I can respect a boundary.” You smiled at the man and for a second you could have sworn his lips curled ever so slightly.
Wesker turned and started to walk again and you followed his pace. “What motivates me is humanity.” He spoke a few moments later as the pair of you left the building. The nightsky shone above the pair of you, illuminated by the giant moon above.
“Humanity?”
“I wish to see humanity evolve. We have a lot of potential as a species and I would see that potential fulfilled.”
The wording of his statement was a little strange to you and your pressed your lips together while you tried to figure out his exact meaning.
“Is that why studied biotechnology. It's in your file.”
“You looked up my qualifications in my file?” He asked, his words parroting your own.
“I may not memorize everything in people's medical files but I do and try to memorize the important things. Yours is rather interesting.”
“How so Doctor?”
“No allergies, no disabilities, no long term injuries. Nothing. No offense but your kind of a freak of nature especially how quickly you heal.”
Wesker let out a loud chuckle and the pair of you reached his BMW. “Freak of nature?”
“In a good way, I promise.” His lips curled upwards at your reassurance but you only got to bask in it for a moment as he unlocked the car with the turn of his key. You pulled open the front passenger car door and stepped into the car. “Spacious.” You praised the car and looked around it. It was immaculate. Clean and neat just like everything else about Wesker.
You did your belt up and heard the click of Wesker do the same before he turned the key in the ignition. The car immediately hummed to life without hesitation and the lights soon flicked on.
Your eyes couldn't help but focus on the way that his hands handled the steering wheel. The veins on them were rather predominant and you pressed your lips together. They would be so easy to take blood from. You shouldn't have been surprised at the size of them, he was a big man, yet you were slightly. Never had you really focused on them before.
“More questions Doctor?” He asked without turning to face you, his gaze still on the road as he pulled out from the car park. No doubt he could feel your heavy gaze.
“Not at the moment. I do appreciate you not making a fuss about…” You swallowed and looked away from the man. “What I do in my spare time.”
“What or who you spend time with is non of my concern so long as it doesn't affect your performance at work. From the way you worked today I can confidently assess that it doesn't.” Wesker paused for a few seconds. “Should we allocate two more seats for the Christmas party?”
At his question you choked and your head snapped towards the man. His lips were curled in the corners and he glanced towards you. Tease.
“No, no, gods no. It's not like that. We aren't in a relationship or anything. Casual thing. I didn't know we were going to have an office Christmas party. Didn't think you would be for them.”
“I'm not.” He sighed. “But Redfield and Frost have been adamant that it's necessary.”
A groan escaped your lips which made him chuckle.
“My thoughts exactly.”
“It's not compulsory is it?” You asked.
“It will be held during work hours. Any proper work will take priority.”
“Never thought I'd say this but please assign me to any emergency that pops up.”
“Not a fan?”
“I don't drink in my spare time, let alone with co-workers. They didn't mention anything about a secret Santa did they?”
“They did and have been persistent about the matter. I have been against the matter.”
“Captain please be the biggest killjoy you can possibly be.”
He let out a loud laugh, one that had all words die on your tongue. It had that warmth return to you but instead of flooding your face it grew in your chest and you practically basked in it.
“You don't like exchanging gifts?”
“Our team is very good at what we do, we work together well as a team and I respect everyone. Doesn't mean I want to extend that relationship to anything more. For most of the people at our work I would very much enjoy keeping the relationship the way it is.”
“Most?” He caught your wording.
“Despite my efforts Chris has managed to wormed his way into my personal life and sometimes I don't dislike it. Other than that? I think you're the exception I admit. You're an interesting man.”
“I'll keep that in mind.”
The car pulled up outside your apartment complex and you were a little surprised. The streets had been empty but you didn't notice how quickly the pair of you had arrived. Did Wesker speed? You couldn't feel the speed very much in the car, the ride had been soft and comfortable the entire time.
“Would you like me to walk you to your door?”
“There's no need, I've taken up enough of your time.” You opened the car door and got out. The sound of Wesker's window opened. When you got around to his side of the car and on the footpath on the other side of the road you turned to face the man. The road wasn't very wide, it was more of a thin driveway than a proper road.
“Thanks again for the ride.”
“No need. Our conversation has been enlightening. I'd enjoy furthering it sometime even with a different subject.”
“Yeah, that would be nice. Oh and Wesker?”
“Yes?”
“Enjoy your day off.”

You guys.
I need an au harry-never-went-to-hogwarts
-age old argument between ron and ginny about her most recent (ex)boyfriend because some things never change
-"choose someone better next time"
-"if your such a love guru then why don't you pick someone for me and we'll see how that goes" (bonus points for a Hermione barb thrown in)
-ginny bringing up this non existent person to ron everytime they see each other trying to prove that his standards are so high they are unrealistic
-harry shows up unexpectedly to rons flat (when ginny is over) excited about a break through in the case they're working on (they're partners) and he couldn't wait to show ron because he's a big dork and gets too invested and Ron's feels more like a best friend than just a partner but Ron's suddenly shoving the files to the side and smiling at him broadly and clapping him on the back and pulling him to the dining room table because Ron's a genius and an excellent love guru if he does say so himself
-Ginny is fuming because ron is smiling smugly at her and she refuses to let him win even if harry is fit and smart and funny and brave and loves quidditch and no. No. No. No.
-harry is baffled because Ron keeps talking to him loudly about all the cases they've solved (but not about their current case) and how he's a holy head harpies fan (except he's a puddlemere united fan) and about a joke he once made (he's pretty sure that was actually Seamus finnegan)
-and the bushy haired brunette girl keeps glancing awkwardly between ron and his sister halfway between amused and nervous
-and the pretty redhead woman sitting next to him turning redder by the minute and glaring at ron but harry can't help but stare at her and how her freckles still managed to stand out against the pretty blush on her cheeks and how her eyes blazed with wickedness before she sent a clever retort back at ron and Harry marveled at how someone could simultaneously have such soft full lips while biting out a sharp witted remark
-and before he knew what was happening Ron was pushing him and ginny out the door with directions to the ice cream shop down the street claiming they forgot about dessert (even though harry could see the apple pie on the kitchen counter)
-and now it's too quiet in the hallway outside the flat and harry nervously ruffles his hair because he not quite sure what happened, what's happening now or what he's supposed to do..
- and ginny is rolling her eyes at the door and sending it once last glare (they're both sure rons just behind with his ear pressed against the wood) before turning to harry embarrassed and apologetic and tells him he's free to go about his evening without visiting the ice cream shop
-and even though two seconds ago harry wasn't sure what he was supposed to do he's also just as sure now that he's not quite ready to part with her yet so
-" well to be honest I'm not a big fan of ice cream anyway..."
-and there's a flash of something behind her eyes that was gone so fast he barely had time to register it
"But I do know a pub that makes a decent treacle tart...if you're up for it"
- and he almost regrets asking as he can sense the brief hesitation and her small smile seemed unsure and harry felt his heart sink before her smile smile broadened much like the one ron shared with him earlier (except rons smile didn't make his stomach flutter and his chest feel warm)
-they get to the pub and harry orders treacle tart for himself and she orders chocolate cake because cake is by far the most superior dessert and when he refuses to change his mind she quips that she should have known better about his preferences (after all he prefers puddlemere to harpies) and he willing sought out Ron For friendship
-and when he tells her he has excellent taste excuse me very much "I just happen to be partial to red heads"
"Unfortunately, Ron's heart is taken by Hermione even if he's too daft to realize it. Sorry, you'll just have to find someone else"
- and "I'm heartbroken, how will I ever find another smart, funny, quidditch loving gorgeous red head?"
-"I may just know someone who happens to check all those boxes you know"
-"Yeah? Think they'd be willing to go on a date with me?"
-"Well... if Fred isn't willing, then I've got 4 more brothers after him..."

Sorry not sorry. It’s late at night and uhh I can’t get this idea out of my head. Do not come yelling at me if you choose to read this. This is the crackiest crack that I’ve ever come up with.
Willem x Aeron, Davron.
Davos had recently been disinherited by his father Willem, he’s not desperate to get back in the will. At least that’s what he keeps telling himself every time he complains to his boyfriend Aeron, while pacing in their living room. It’s not like Davos dealt with Willems shit for years, only to be told that Willem is no longer leaving him money. That Davos is a disappointment to him, Davos almost lost an important account for them by being pigheaded and not shutting up when Willem told him to.
It’s only after Davos makes the off hand comment that he should send Aeron his way to get him to marry Aeron, and then have Aeron put Davos back into the will. That he stops in his tracks, and before he can even turn to look at Aeron he’s already shaking his head no. Aeron asks if Davos is alright? Does he need to go to the hospital because that’s the only reason he can see Davos coming up with such a stupid idea, maybe his father is right and Davos is just too stupid.
Davos says no he hasn’t and it would be a solid plan if he would just listen for a minute. They pretend to break up, Aeron will need to act like he’s moved on from Davos and suddenly has a thing for older men. Davos will move back in with Willem acting like a heartbroken fool and Willem will have Aeron over all the time to torture Davos with his relationship.
Eventually Aeron marries his uncle, there won’t be a prenup Davos will make sure of it. Aeron will convince Willem to put him in the will, just to make sure that he gets the money owed to Davos. Once they’re married Aeron only needs to stay married to him for about five years and then they’ll kill Willem but make it look like an accident. After waiting a respectable time Aeron will announce that he’s back together with Davos and they’re going to get married.
Aeron reluctantly agrees to the plan, as long as he never has to sleep with Willem. It all goes according to plan, Willem loves the idea that he’s stealing Aeron from Davos and having Davos witness the blooming “relationship” between him and Aeron. He doesn’t even question why Davos would want to move back in with him.
It’s a courthouse wedding, Davos and Benjicot are there as the witnesses. To keep the prenup from happening Davos pretends to get so drunk because he just lost the love of his life that he spills his drink on the only copy that’s with them. Aeron insists that it’s fine they’ll just have to sign a new one, after the honeymoon to Pentos. And oh while they’re at it Willem needs to update his will to include him.
On the honeymoon Aeron manages to convince Willems lawyer to get rid of the prenup, maybe he could tell Willem that it accidentally got deleted from his files and that a postnuptial agreement isn’t as good as a prenup. The lawyer agrees mainly because he’s tired of being treated like shit by Willem. Aeron also has his name added to the will before they get back, so all Willem has to do is sign it.
So they get back from their honeymoon and everything thing goes according to plan. The only small problem is Davos forgot how possessive he is of Aeron, now that they’re married Willem is constantly touching him and calling him husband especially in front of Davos, Davos’s blood is constantly boiling. Aeron goes along with it knowing that he has to keep Willem from being suspicious. Davos is also a very jealous person, so he eventually pretends to go through another breakup and wants Aeron to comfort him, please Willem isn’t it bad enough that he took Aeron away from permanently? Aeron asks Willem to not deny Davos this one comfort, he belongs to Willem now.
Which is how Aeron ended up sleeping in Davos’s bed at night, because that was the time when his depression about his breakup happens. Davos is getting comforted by Aeron just not in the way that Willem would expect. Aeron is constantly quietly bouncing on Davos’s dick and reminding him how much he loves him, and that this will be worth it.
The four years pass painfully slowly for Aeron and Davos. But it’s finally the eve before Willem and Aerons wedding anniversary, it’s also Willems last night alive. Aeron drugged Willem with sleeping pills crushed into his wine. He also wakes Willem up pretending to hear a sound downstairs and won’t he go check? Willem is too disoriented by the wine and pills to argue so he agrees.
Aeron follows him with just a robe on and once Willem reaches the top of the stairs Aeron pushes Willem down them. As Willem lays there bleeding out Aeron blows him a kiss while flashing him, so at least the last thing he see is Aeron his pretty young husband. Aeron goes back to bed after informing Davos that the deed has been done.
Aeron is the one to “find”Willems body the next morning and screams for Davos to call for an ambulance his uncle has fallen down the stairs and is bleeding. The paramedics call in the police who question both Aeron and Davos. Davos tells them that he’s a deep sleeper so he hadn’t heard anything until Aeron screamed for him to call an ambulance. Aeron tells them that Willem woke him up saying he thought he heard something downstairs and was going to go check, also Aeron is a deep sleeper so he didn’t feel if Willem got back in the bed or not.
An autopsy is ordered and when it comes back with sleeping pills and wine. Aeron explains that they all had a glass of wine that night seeing as how it was the night before their wedding anniversary, but he had told Willem not to take the sleeping pills it could be dangerous. He says that Willem told him to be quiet he’s old enough to know how things affect his body, unlike Aeron who is still young and has a lot to learn.
Six months after the funeral and the reading of the will Davos and Aeron announce that they’re together again. Everyone is happy for them, they don’t even blink when three more months have passed and they’ve announced that they’re engaged. Davos and Aeron get married the day after Aeron and Willems wedding anniversary date. If anyone questions it they say it’s so Aeron will once again associate happy times during those days.
Once again sorry for the crack, but you did choose to read this.
