In high school I got permission to screen the 2nd Gurren Lagann movie in the school auditorium on the colossal projector and I feel like we are walking the same path

it was nice coming back to it after all this time! ttgl had genuinely dropped out of like, things that i considered My Media or whatever. it was a younger me who watched this after her first watch of evangelion, who couldnt even conceptualize the idea of being trapped in a shell, who bought her little core drill necklace off the internet. those memories are genuinely fuzzy now. time really flies.

but watching the movies for the first time (well, technically REwatching gurren-hen but still) at nearly 30, after being a girl for like a half-decade, really reminded me how much this series meant to me as a kid. how like novel and powerful the idea of looking at a fundamentally uncaring, unloving, even antagonistic universe and find the strength from others and eventually yourself to go on and go Further was. the idea that that whole time kamina was scared too, but seeing simon working so hard gave him the strength to keep pushing him onward. that even if it is all fundamentally empty and there isnt any capital M Meaning in life, despite how utterly illogical it is humans still create our own. it got to me as a little not-yet-girl who had been continually struggling with depression and questioning her christian upbringing for years. it still gets to me now. i feel pretty lucky that i can look back on that as "the past" now. but its still here in me. hopefully it always will be.

to say nothing of the style and presentation of it all. ttgl like other Teen Media is really what set me on the aesthetic trajectory im on. i tend to go to klk for that stuff nowadays for obvious reasons but chronologically its really ttgl (and like homestuck, of course) that shaped what i value about stories and animation today. it was what introduced me to the idea of real vs super robots! it introduced me to imaishi! and kazuki nakasima! kamen rider fourze, kill la kill, re: cutie honey all of this stuff for me traces back to me watching the ttgl dub on whatever pos streaming site i watched it on. im pretty grateful for that.

theres plenty of shit i could talk too, ofc. its a pretty misogynistic show in all the boring ways these anime tend to be. funny homophobic stereotype whos actually Cool and Awesome at what he does so it doesnt matter that hes a stereotype. another (the very first?) not fully baked Oppression Metaphor. due to being tv series compilations the movies' pacing can stumble at times (tho lagann-hen fares much better in this regard). but all in all this is The Way to revisit the series, i think. if you're watching for the first time i'd definitely recommend the tv show first. but for us who have been there n done that and want to remember how a drill works, you gotta watch the movies. im glad i did!

Yuya Takahashi - Recent Geats Development.

So I've been absent in posting a thing about Geats due to some gatekeepers and false accusers personal reasons, but enough about that, this is about Geats and how it developed as a story.

If there is one thing Yuya Takahashi is good at it's good at world building. That's why all the worlds in the shows he has written so far are immersive.

He's also somewhat good in character writing. He's somewhat good at fleshing out each characters and don't make them seem one-dimensional. The characters have layers upon layers and upon layers of them.

What Takahashi lacks is how to resolve those character layers without pushing them to the brink of despair. He's done it to the doctor Riders of Ex-aid.

He's done it to the Riders of Zero-One, barring Amatsu because his storyline was botched due to many reasons.

And he's done it to all of our main riders: Ace, Keiwa, Neon, and Michinaga.

What's even more egregious is how Takahashi just doesn't know what character interactions outside of the main plot, look like, not to mention, he doesn't know how friends should have reacted upon learning that their friend is going through a tragedy.

That's why we don't see Emu, Nico, or even Parad have some downtime like go to the arcades on Emu's day off. Or how Hiiro would just eat cake without something interrupting him before he even got his first bite.

Aruto is literally isolated from everyone else. We all think that Fuwa is good friends with Aruto, but they're not. Considering how Fuwa stopped Yaiba from consoling Aruto after losing Izu.

Then we have both Keiwa and Michinaga. I can understand why Ace wasn't all that comforting to Michinaga, they were strangers, they didn't know each other.

Keiwa tho? Ace's first response after learning from Tsumuri of Sara's death was to inform Neon FAR AWAY from Keiwa's residence. You can explain that plot hole anyway you like, doesn't change the fact that Takahashi deliberately isolated Keiwa from the people who should have been there in the first place.

Which gave us the most forced character arc in Geats's history.

I still enjoy Geats mind you, but moving forward, I think we shouldn't be expecting the characters in any series he writes to be really good friends like the Kamen Rider Club of Fourze or even the cast of OOO, and yes that includes Satonaka.

Now I'm curious, how would Takahashi write a sentai series.

I'm gonna make this post cause it will comfort me to know it exists in some way that others can see and not just live in a vent note on my phone. It's just a goodbye letter to a friend I had and lost sometime ago. If you happen to see this Connor I hope you're doing well, but I don't expect that to happen. If you know him tho please don't bother him with this, he doesn't deserve that. He doesn't want to be friends with me anymore and I want to respect that. I'm still gonna write it like he was gonna read it, but only for myself so that it's easier for me to write.

Looking back I remember being so excited to meet you specifically. When Kate and I were on our second date she talked about how you were into Godzilla and such and I was just blown away that I could finally meet someone else that liked that stuff. I'm not much for online connection so finding a real person was so cool and really healed my inner child. It validated this long held insecurity that I was childish for liking tokusatsu. And when we met you were just as cool as I'd imagined. I really wanted to impress everyone since I was so new, but that also made me so nervous. That was the night I drew bomb-chan. As we hung out more I kinda just drifted towards you more. I remember trying a lot to be the best friend I could. That's why I'd try to draw weird monster designs. Whenever you thought my designs were cool I always felt proud. Like yeah I'm happy with the design but Connor liked it and he's got great taste so it must be really good. Like that whale gorilla one. I was soo sad I wasn't there to fight it. Oh and I'm still sorry about the mouse thing. But I got to help you clean your house or buy last minute groceries or go with you to see Ultraman and Kamen rider. I don't know if it meant as much to you, but the opportunity to be someone's friend was so life changing. Like I had never really gotten to experience that kind of friendship before. I just wish we could have spent more time together. I loved Ultraman night. I was so sad it was so hard to do. Driving back and forth is a lot of gas but God I still wanted to go so bad. It was so much fun learning about Ultraman. I was also so impressed by the things you knew and how much you enjoyed it. I'm sorry for not following up on planning more. I'm also sorry I couldn't say any of this before everything happened. I always thought you deserved better friends than Chris. I've only heard a few of the things he did and I only knew him for like a year. But I wish you the best. It broke my heart to hear those things and I hope you can find a better friend than him. Yeah, I don't think the Academy would be cool with Houtaro posing in a charity pinup calendar... though I think Minato would be still against it on principle because, ya know, Houtaro's a fucking kid (and his student to boot) and pinup calendars tend to sexualize the people in them.

Also, I'm of the opinion that the Kamen Riders have public identities at this point. Most of them don't really make an effort to keep their identities secret anyway- Houtaro's actually the exception in that they go out of their way to cover his tracks as the Kamen Rider, unlike everyone else who just transforms in front of random people without thinking (or erasing their memories thereafter).

It just goes largely unacknowledged in-show because... well, the public kinda owes it to the Riders to give them some privacy, you know? And society just... collectively decided not to talk about it.

I have never watched NJPW, but I am learning and had many thoughts on the BoSJ press conference it was delightful:

Hiromu Takahashi starting a speech when he was just supposed to pose and then sit XD

Ryusuke Taiguchi - looks like a distinguished old man but he is talking about his butt so I believe my guess of “looks normal is insane” is pretty accurate

I am OBSESSED with watching the other competitors reacting as people.  speak. YOH looked like he was trying not to laugh at Taiguchi

YOH - I was not expecting his voice to be that deep. His epithet and the way he says it makes him sound like a Kamen Rider character (complimentary) but he too serious for that hmmmmm. I am intrigued.

Clark Connors - was SHOOK when be started speaking Japanese. Had very sweet things to say about the fans, which goes against the vibes he was giving me, but noice noice.

Kanemaru - he talked about Taiguchi’s butt, for some reason, and YOH looked like he was desperately trying not to laugh XD

Taiji Ishimori - went through a list of competitors by name or epithet and I was following along till he got to “wrench guy.” Seems v intense. Wants to break everything, I’m here for it.

SHO - Also says literally almost nothing aldkfja ldsk f I saw something earlier that implied he and YOH used to be a team?? (Edit after a google - oh Roppongi 3K! Rocky Romero managed them. Seems like they had a breakup? which is so sad because they have matching names.)

Ace Austin - His sunglasses are everything. He looks like a combo of an anime cosplayer and a Gambit (X-Men) cosplayer. Watching him (as far as I know, couldn’t find out for sure when I googled) not understand anything that’s being said so really cashing in his facial reactions when Clark Connors was talking was delightful. I skimmed the results of BoSJ night 1 and apparently he cut the webbing of someone’s fingers with a playing card, which is EXACTLY what I would expect from a person from Impact (affectionate). No idea how to feel about this guy. WHAT IS THE STICK FOR? IS IT A POOL CUE? A POINTER STICK? A STABBY BOI?

Distracted by YOH in the background - he either looks like he’s going to laugh or like he’s #so above it all lol. He’s like actively avoiding making eye contact with the camera. He is nodding.

They are translating Austin’s speech now. He nommed his card, which seems t obe a thing for him. Then he stuck it back in his sleeve. Does he have a special compartment for that?

Alex Zayne - this man looks like an action anime vampire. I’ve never seen Helsing but that one.The only part of his outfit that is not red is his tie and his gages. I love the angle he’s doing with not being signed, creative! I am fascinated by his hair but v put off by “sauce.” You do you tho, man!

Franciso Akira - Ah, the Italian. YOU’RE 22? HE’S YOUNGER THAN ME. I just realized that either Ace Austin’s hair is black in the middle or it’s the lighting (he and YOH are seated right behind the podium, so you can see their reactions the most). SAIRAETFTAIGATQIBU, Vail Questions: So I think you were on the money when you said Vail is Genta's PTSD actually, since being a supersoldier guinea pig will do that to ya. It feels like it harkens back to Showa riders like OG Ichigo, who often were nonconsensually changed into superhuman warriors. Genta's demeanor change w/wo Vail is notable tho, even tho we only see a little. It seems like Vail is separate and independent from Genta at this point - how does that affect them? (cont.)

Yeah and I think it's important too to consider the names/titles of the Kamen Riders, because each of them have meaning.

Ikkis - Revice: How he has to continually (RE) deal with his Vice's (vice) because of his constant 'repression' mode.

Daiji - EVIL/LIVE: Daiji has to learn how to live his own life on his own, but since he hasn't had to do this before the only thing he notices are the traits that are EVIL within him because they feel more obvious. (Y'know, having to live with your inequities and all that)

Sakura - JEANE: ngl I didn't really analyze Sakura's whole thing, but the first thought I have was Joan of Arc

SO yeah I can see Veil being like,,,,Papa-san's ptsd, but we also have to consider the fact that he fought *as* Veil waayyy back when, so it could've also been something similar to Kagerou?

Aka a coping mechanism to use when reality is too hard to handle

(I say this because Papa-san seems to forget what's happened when he's 'back to normal' so its entirely possible that VEIL was what he used to help himself cope with the experimentation and all that stuff)

Have you done Krekka for the ask game? I know you're a huge Nidhiki fan, curious if you have any thoughts on his partner?

I haven't gotten Krekka yet actually. So far I only done Toa Ignika and Axonn for the Bionicle ask game (which Im still accepting). That being said great choice. Krekka isn't necessarily a big favorite of mine (partially because I'm not that fond of the "dumb brute" archetype barring a few exceptions), but I have to admit I do have a soft spot for the big guy. Krekka is a relatively simple character when it comes to characterization/backstory/role in the story (especially when compared to Nidhiki), but that doesn't mean I don't have any "deeper" thoughts regarding him or that there isnt stuff worth discussing.

Anyways some thoughts/headcanons/general musings:

This is a weird thing to start with but... Krekka is kinda adorable for me. I think its kinda this ...overgrown puppy (bulldog??) vibe due to his loyalty and dumbness. I admit BOADH is a big reason for me feeling this way since it gave him a few moments that made me go "AWWW he's so cute". Just..love his loyalty so much.

His undying loyalty makes him stand out for me across the other dark hunters. While many dark hunters we ha e are opportunistic and schemy, Krekka is just...very loyal. Maybe too much so. But I love that he is loyal. Feels refreshing tbh.

And now I cant help but feel that TSO is just "guys stupid but at least he wont double cross me and is easy to keep in check" when it comes to him.

Not to go woobifying villains but I genuinely dont think the guys that bad. Hes just really stupid, overly loyal and doing his job. Its kinda like w Lariska being a decent person despite being a knife happy murder girl although to a much lesser extent since guys a literalminded fool and also just smashy boy.

I do like his backstory of being a former guard who lost his job and started wreck havoc until one day a dark hunter found and hired him. It isnt anything too complex but it works well for his character and explains why he is so loyal to Dark Hunters. It also helps bringing a bit more light to his homeland and I love when we get more info of places through character backstories, makes the world feel more real that way.

Also can Gorast please stop hurting charaxters I like. This is the reason shes my least favorite character in the 2001-2008 storyline that isnt just a glorified extra or a plot device.

When it comes to Krekka, one scene I always think of when I think of him is in BOADH where he temporarily forgot to fly and Nidhiki was just "WAIT A MOMENT LARISKA TOLD ME YOU CAN FLY????" and Krekka just goes "whoops I forgot". That was adorable honestly. You dumb idiot, forgot you could fly.

Also, I know he's kinda "the idiot character", and while I am NOT saying he isn't, I do think its worth pointing out that he's basically literal minded. In BOADH (again) when Nidhiki tried to do that training scenario Krekka basically was like "wait I’m here, there’s nothing there why should I move there". This is

Another thing I really like about Krekka is that how, despite being an absolute idiot and tool, he still is willing to sometimes not take Nidhikis bullshit, see preventing him from getting the Zamor launchers (geez BOADH did a lot for this guys characterization lmao)

I sometimes call him truck boy because his name is one letter off my languages word for truck.

Also unless canon/word of Greg says otherwise I don't think every member of his species is as stupid as him. Like possibly on similar level but still.

It is made pretty clear that Nidhiki couldn't stand Krekka at all, but I do genuinely wonder how Krekka feels about Nidhiki. Based on the little we have I'd say he liked him to some extent or at the very least, didn't hate him to the same degree. I also have to wonder how aware he was about Nidhikis haterd towards him.

I also love the idea that when Nidhiki was mutated, Krekka just...wasnt afraid of him at slightest, no fear in this dumb boy. (I also like the idea he didnt recognize him at first and Nidhiki just, had to explain to his thick skull who he was. It took a while but eventually he got it.)

On a related note, I find it interesting how the LOMN website describes him working with Nidhiki because guy knows where to get the good jobs or something rather than being his goverment (read TSO) assigned partner The way the twos relationship were described makes it feel that by this point the staff hadnt figured out what they wanted to do with Dark Hunters , or if it even was an organization or just these two tools.

Its really interesting for me how Krekkas characterization not only varies between the books/comics (where hes more intimidating and him being a simpleton isnt as pronounced) and the movie (where hes more of a dumbass) but also how his characterization evolved. Like, his loyalty wasn't that pronounced trait but now I feel its just as important part of him as him being a dumbass (which is to say, very interesting)

I remember how the aftoermentoined Metru Nui movie website described that Krekka hated toa to the point wouldve hunted them for free if Nidhiki didnt make sure the two would get paid. I feel this is somewhat early installment weirdness as it isnt mentioned anywhere else but at the same time Krekka being willing to fight without payment sounds 1000% in character if you ask me

Something I have been confused over: when exactly was Krekka recruited to the dark hunters??? The timeline is very vague about this and I wish we knew.

It's been AGES since I watched my home countrys dub of LOMN but what I recall I really liked Krekka's voice in that dub. He sounded more badass and I loved it, the VA had a pretty unique sound. Sadly dont think there is any clips of the LOMN dub, which is a shame. UPDATE: I rewatched the dub and I love the voice itself but felt the voice direction made him sound kinda inconsistent

This is more a "Nidhiki and Krekka related thought" rather than just Krekka related but one thing I really like about Krekka and Nidhiki is that how they are like a more serious and competent take of "those two evil henchmen with contrasting personalities" trope. Often these types of villains are rather goofy, but these two could be rather dangerous as well and I really like that. I also like their dynamic of just doing Nidhiki being done with Krekkas bullshit. One of the main reasons I wish LOMN was a miniseries rather than a movie is because I really wanted more screentime with the two.

On a related note can I JUST SAY I LOVE the way the two compliment/pararell each other. From design (Krekka being bulky mostly blue colored, Nidhiki being slender and monstrous, mostly green colored) to personality (Krekka being foolish and simpleminded but loyal Nidhiki being cunning and ambitious but treacherous) to powersets (Krekka being strong physical attacker, Nidhiki being weaker(??) but faster and more special attacker).Heck, even their backstories have similarities as they both lost their orginal purpose in one way or another and didnt have anywhere to go but Dark Hunters (the main difference being that Nidhiki inflicted his fate upon himself by betraying the toa while Krekka didnt really do anything iirc)

Now for something crossovery, Krekkas and Nidhikis dynamic reminds me a lot of Kronk and Yzma from Emperors New Groove. Yes I have drawn a parody of the "pull the lever kronk" meme, yes I intend to make more screencap redraws. They also remind me a lot of Mummymon and Archenemon from Digimon 02, partially due to the dynamic (smug spider that tries to be cunning and intimidating but gets outclassed by most other villains in that + loyal blue dumb boy) partially due to their ultimate fate being rather similar.

I don't know how familiar you are with the franchise, but Krekka reminds me a fair bit of Gamel, one of the four villain generals in Kamen Rider OOOs, mainly because "the dumb brute major villain that's kinda cuteish and loyal a f while everyone else is an asshole".

I remember reading a p good oneshot fic that was just him accidentally killing a civilian when all he wanted was a hug and...honestly that is p much what I imagine him being like. Guy may be strong, reckless and a fool but like I said I dont think hes all that bad and just a puppy. An overgrown, moronic puppy but a puppy nontheless

For AUs, I remember I have thought once of "What if Krekka survived but Nidhiki died" and just ...guy wouldve been very lost and confused and unsure what to do tbh. He would most likely returned to Dark Hunters but Mata Nui knows how say TSO wouldve felt about that. Its not too complex au yet but I am thinking of developing it further one day.

the dynamic of ‘dude who cares A Lot trying to be a hardboiled tough guy’ and ‘well-meaning but KY genius with hyperfixation’ is just top tier stuff, they compliment each other’s strengths and weaknesses really well?? also they both have impeccable fashion sense but in like. divergent directions.

also the opening ships it hard. “It’s not a dream I can reach alone, if it’s with you we can make it so [...] Two bodies and souls in one (I’ll ride with you and no one else)! When I meet my ultimate partner, a miracle will happen” like. COME ON

god damn they love each other SO MUCH!!! we get to see their partnership develop through these 49 eps, and sure they screw up from time to time, but they are a unit!!!

OKAY i resisted for a while because Rogue killed Akaba, and I couldn't quite wrap my head around them moving past that... then they had the ultimatum showdown at the 3 Crows' grave markers, complete with the two of them addressing that issue, and the rest is history

also this applies more in the new world, but they're both in leadership positions who wanted to (at least initially) take care of people who rely on them (croc man got uh influenced by mars gas but! he seemed genuine in the past and in the new world about serving the interests of his people) and the dynamic of that has a lot of potential—leadership through a more homey/familial structure compared to leadership of a system/social institution

So I’ve finally watched that last Zio episode (Kamen Rider Zi-O 49) with subs today. It took me long enough... haha over a month. But it is all good! All the raw emotions calmed down and I can say more analytically what i think about it and about whole series. For reference: before watching Zi-o i saw Sentai between Dekaranger and Lupats (yes, all of them.not always all specials but all main series) im watching the Colorful Spandex Squad since 2005 I think? More or less. But I started to watch Kamen Rider series in 2018 (tried Decade in its original run but it didn't click and confused me after 2 episodes). For Riders I saw: W, OOO, Fourze, Wizard (whole) Kiva (till 30 episode?terrible), Gaim 14 episodes (even more terrible for me than Kiva, super not my thing) bit of Den o and Drive (want to finish those). So here is my perspective. Last epiosode Zio was a mess with plot and Gold with acting. really true ending and representation as a whole series. the moments were great! Like uncle giving Sougo Watches, Tsukuyomi plan, Geiz sacrifice, Woz confusion, And Sougo despair, rage and final decision. Yet in all those puzzles didn’t fit together like their should. It was confusing, like how uncle made those watches? (really didn’t those like disappear?), why the bait for kamen rider Tsukuyomi? and not using her almost at all? the half baked plan to restore world?and more... Who is Woz for real? WHO IS HE XD As I’ve wrote above the last episode is perfect  representation for whole series. many good and bad points mixed well. Now ill try to poin them. Good things:  - actors and their acting. it was great! Dramatic when needed funny when needed. From main chara till someone like his uncle. it was easy to like them. or well not. like Schwartz.  - decade. Didn’t watch this series but his many cameos were such a great sarcastic addition! Loved it. It almost made me to watch Decade. Almost!  - opening. yep. it was catchy. thats always good.   - another riders suits. OMG wonderful!! Disturbing and detailed. I loved those!  - Shu Watanabe (lool:P)  - other suits were great too. even the grand zio over the top one.  - on paper, seeing older Riders  - when episodes were stand alone sometimes it was super fun to watch those!  - half episodesXDXD best! try it people~! And now for some bad stuff:  - plot.. omg plot.. it was so messy.. it didn’t overlap like it should... the blocks weren't glued together. And it was producers fault. who thought it was good idea to change directors and script writers without some upper supervisions? I messed also with character traits. also with items ( some are for one episode and then never again? like Tajador Watch?!) etc.. continuity  inside this series is really wonky (like Geiz health after his upped form)  - time paradoxes: time travelling can be easier topic when it is used once or twice only, when your actions doesn't mess with it etc. Zi-o was terrible with it. and confusing. and more terrible.  - main villain  - while his actor was doing good and tried everything I didn't feel his motivation at all. it was weak “ boo ho I want to rule” so boring... no twist with him except of sister still it was not so great.  - Woz context.. I mean who is Woz? Why he betrayed Geiz and co? Is he true narrator? but even if he has too much interactions, he is part of Trinity damn it! He is almost a friend.. almost... annoying secret and we don't have any source material to have  any clue about him ( maybe in that movie? but movies are not that canonic?)  - some cameos were weak or  to OOC...  - breaking Kamen Rider Shared universe - I hope they will fix this! and thats all. super mixed bag. If only there was some (or some better?) supervisor over the project it could be as great as Gokaigers. But sadly someone messed this up. Still it wasn’t wasted time for me, some moments were great, and it is better than Kiva And Gaim in my opinion hehhe. Also we will get some movies/specials for it so my thought might change. Overall it is solid 6/10 I Wish best luck for all the actors tho! You were the best!

Ice Queendom - RWBY Thoughts.

These are my thoughts for the first three episodes of RWBY: Ice Queendom. 

TLDR: It’s an enjoyable spin-off that checks a lot of my preferred things and the things I loved about RWBY as a whole, including Ruby’s and Yang’s sisterly bond, which got lost in recent volumes in favor of shipping characters.

Naturally, spoilers below the cut.

I really love that Taiyang, Yang and Ruby are one cohesive family unit.

What’s missing in the main RWBY show is the sisterly bond between Ruby and Yang, in favor of pandering to certain ships with abhorrent fanbases, it was really refreshing to see Yang and Ruby act like sisters again.

Taiyang gives Yang fatherly advice on how to take care of Ruby, about how Ruby should NOT depend on Yang.

Which brings us to how Yang opted to bring Ruby out of her shell as opposed to the OG scene where she left Ruby in the air.

Additional context for the White and Black trailers.

We were shown how Weiss Schnee was permitted to attend Beacon.

I also love how different Winter’s approach to sisterly affection to Yang’s is.

And how different Weiss’s approach to Whitley is to Yang’s approach to Ruby.

Yes you read that right, we see all the Schnees in this. Well at least the Jacques, Winter and Whitley are shown but we only see Willow’s back raising a glass of wine.

The SFX for Nora’s attacks made me cringe tho. It has the cutesy element but it felt jarring to hear.

Team JNPR stripped Jaune of his shirt, well since he’s wearing a onesie, they simply pulled his onesie to expose his torso.

The reveal of a new Grimm - Nightmare - that apparently uses its host as breeding ground for new Grimm.

The Grimm looked like a seed.

It immediately reminded me of Kamen Rider Gaim lol

I mean considering Urobuchi is the animation concept-er of this project.

Baby Rabbit Jaune is cute

The new Grimm is small but terrible.

Weiss’s bigotry being called out beautifully by both Ruby and Yang.

SUN!

PENNY!

It’s a shame that the Blake & Sun vs. Roman fight was cut.

They probably did not have enough budget to animate that masterpiece in 2D.

Somehow I don’t think the whole season would only be composed of saving Weiss from the Nightmare Grimm.

Final thoughts:

I am really enjoying the RWBY anime. There are some animation mishap but that is par for the course of anime, especially considering their work hours. They will prioritize one scene over the other.

It does speed through the entirety of Volume 1 like how Ruby speeds to her class when she wakes up late.

And there are some hiccups here and there but it still enjoyable overall.

I think people misunderstand the goal of RWBY: Ice Queendom wasn’t to reboot RWBY or even retell RWBY. It aims to tell a different story from the main RWBY series produced by Rooster Teeth, hence why it’s called a story that’s “canon adjacent.”

In fact, a lot of RWBY spin off stories, like the manga and the DC comics one are also canon adjacent stories because it features things that aren’t really canon for the first three volumes of the series, or it deviates from the rules established by the late Monty Oum about the series. Biggest offender being the RWBY-DC crossover comic produced by DC Comics.

Metrocon 2019!

Hey yall sorry I haven't been as active, I was busy literally every single day of Metrocon and I finally got a breather. Anyway I wanna just summerize what I can remember because I don't wanna completely forget these wonderful memories. I wanna look back at em over and over again 💕

THURSDAY:

Thursday was the 5 year anniversary of my Gundam Wing cosplay group! I got to hang out with my Metrowing buds and we did a nice photoshoot with the pilots and we had so much fun! I miss them dearly cuz they live out of state but the time I had with them is one I always cherish.

I pretty much spent the whole day with them and I decided that Thurs/Fri would be autograph day for us. By golly the VAs were all so super sweet. All of them loved the candy and the pictures I made for them and as I predicted I got really emotional and kinda cried in front of Luci Christian cuz she is one reason I wanted to VA. Her range is insanely versatile! I legit would call her the Meryl Streep of anime & she was SO kind to me ;///;! When I started crying she said "Don't ever apologize for being real. You're a very sweet person, & I believe in you, there is always room for everyone in this industry ❤️"

And man I just felt so happy at that. She makes me feel confident and I wanna keep trying my best. Same with Josh, Alexis, David & Kara! They were all super encouraging and OmG like ok I think I astral projected when Josh did Armin's or Yuri's voice when he was signing stuff. I teared up QwQ I love his energy and dedication!

I think one of my fave moments during the autographs was when I made the "I'm gonna Bertell you what I Bertold him" joke and David and Josh absolutely lost it xD! They were like OMG WE NEED THAT AS A TSHIRT FOR DAVID XD! Like "You just got BERTOLD" and then they proceeded to make jokes about how he roasted Armin in many ways xD it was hilarious 😂! But oof.

I spent most of the Thursday browsing the Dealer Room and this is was one of the first times I was able to find new Takanori Nishikawa CDs so I bought some that I don't have TTwTT I was so happy! We ended the day by doing a run through of our performances for Anime Idol with Trowa. And it went really well🎶Also, at the cosplay booth, the staff liked my sis' Clear Card Sakura so much they asked her to enter the cosplay hallway contest and I'm so proud of her cuz this her first cosplay ever ^u^- she looks so cute! And many people wanted her pic all weekend :D

FRIDAY:

As usual this is Anime Idol day and I was super busy prepping. I was a bit more confident now that I finally had performed in front of a test audience. But as usual I am always still nervous no matter how much I prepe. Luckily for me in the morning I was getting last minute autographs and as I was getting Darker Than Black signed by Luci, I commented on Anime Idol and she said break a leg! I had given her an Ochaco mug as a gift which made her SUPER happy 😊! I felt much more confident after that and I went to the Main Events hall happily soon after.

Anime Idol was really fun this year! There was some nervousness from the contestants but we all just got together and made some fun friendships! I'm so proud not only of Mama Trowa but also of the other contestants I mentored or was able to help feel less nervous. The winners did deserve it! It was a very good act! And as for myself, I advertised a bit and got some new people from the toku community to come watch the show! I even saw a Kamen Rider Geiz cosplayer who came to the show it was AWESOME! My bffs who were only there for Friday also came & a few Golden*Star members too I was just so happy and thankful! They really made my day! My bffs were dressed in Ghibli heroines and OMG they were lovely & we did a small Tik Tol together ^_^ it was fun!

After the show my new Golden*Star member came up to me and I legit almost cried cuz they were SUPER adorable and kind and they had prepared a Cecil Ajima merch box for me saying thanks for allowing them to join and that they look up to me as a mentor and friend and I'm so happy I had waterproof eyeliner that day cuz oh boy that hit me in the feels 😭! I love! I got them back tho, for initiation I got down on one knee and gave em a flower bouquet,haichews & a golden star balloon as a way to welcome them to the Utapri cosplay group! So now we have a lovely new Tokiya 😊 yay!

SATURDAY:

Ok so despite loosing one prop, Saturday was really fun! I finally debuted Poppy Pipopapo and I basically used the entire day to find video game character cosplayers and we got to dance with them! I was shooting a music video for People Game for Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Abridged ^u^! Everyone whom I asked to dance with me was excited for it and it was a blast! I loved being able to spread so much fun and positivity as Poppy :) it was a dream cosplay come true! I can't wait to pit the vid together ^^🌸💕🎼🎵🎶! Later at night, I ran into my new friend who is gonna be Tokiya (they were dressed as Eiichi & their bud was Kira from HE★VENS!) we spent a good 2 hrs taling about all our future plans with Golden*Star and their other friend was so impressed with how friendly our Utapri group was that they wanted to join ;w; it was actually really sweet💕

SUNDAY:

Was THE BIG DAY AT LAST. The very first time my Utapri cosplay group Golden*Star Cosplay would finally have our first meeting/photoshoot together as ST☆RISH & QUARTET NIGHT! And it went flawless like a dream! Guys, omg I hit a milliom dollar jackpot. I love this group so much 😭! Everyone was on time, we all worked together so well, the photoshoot went perfectly! And we livestreamed it! After the photos, we sang Reiji a Happy Birthday 🎁 cuz it was his character bday the day before & I bought cupcakes and fried chicken for everyone xD! Cuz that's what Shining Live said happened fffff. In the most complimentary way, I feel like this cast is so on point, we are all pretty much our characters xD! I thought managing an 11 member group would be too hard at first but we have all grown so close over this year & we all have so much love and respect for one another, we all just felt so natural hanging out, as of we had done this for years ;U; ! It was lovely!

We tried stalling saying goodbye cuz we didn't wanna leave ;///; but we had to. We are still planning to watch Maji Love Kingdom as a group when SentaiFilmworks gives the green light for theatrical releases. But for now we will work hard to make HolMat even better! I love them all and can't wait to keep working together to make more wonderful memories! See yall next con!

When I last spoke to you through my inaudible words about this here anime we'd had a little bit of setup for what seems to be the grand conflict of the season, sort of like Claw was. and with Dimple ready to take control of fifty thousand people with that creepy as all hell Mob disguise things are shaping up to be pretty bad. Fifty kilo units of person is quite a lot of manpower for such an existance as Dimple, With this complete and utter bunglenut of a spirit at the helm things have the potential to turn, shall we say interesting. So without further ado let's jump right into it.

Episode Review:

We begin this episode with the number of schoolgirls interested in Mob shrinking 1x Mezato Ichiwhich was to be rather expected what with the completely real not in any way not human, perfectly legitimate founder and creator of the Psycho Helmet Religion showing up to replace Mo… erm I mean clear up the misunderstanding and stop dragging Mob into matters he has completely no relevancy to of course. and further decreased with the telepathy obsessed girl also noping out on him in favor of the psycho helmet dudes, something is definetely fishy here, tho I do not know what or just how much. I am honestly quite pleasantly surprised with Reigen this episode as he actually did some detective-based work to look into the building deterioration, which as someone who is currently going through kamen Rider W, makes me very happy and shows that if Reigen wants to be, he can be quite skilled at many things from massages to photo editting to gaming and even some bit of web design. There is truly more to him than meets the eye and he's not even an alien, at least I don't think he is? he is a great pretender tho. Anyways, getting sidetracked. And just as I imagined things with Psycho Hat guys are going down a brainwashing powder made from the divine broco-tree is some seriously high level stuff if it can even overshadow Teruki's mindbrain And in the previous shot of all those townspeaople one had very characteristic cheeks, I wonder if that's also an effect given they are very dimple-esque or just something random. What's more during Teru's shot we saw Psycho Helmet behind him and while DImple is a spirit I don't think he has the ability to move soundlessly like that to sneak up on Teru with the physical form whatever it is. This is turning the harmless bunglenuts into a serious creep alert and I'm honestly all for it if well executed. The action sequence with Teru battling against the self proclaimed God of brocoli was a very well executed exchange, Showing us the power of this new threat through opposing it to Teru, one of the most capable psychics we've seen in the series and for someone of even his caliber to be able to be briefly overpowered this is trully a large threat. Seeing a comeback of Minegishi, the plant esper in this episode wasn't something I considered but it does make sense for giving us an expert's take on the problem at hand, even if said expert was rather quickly also overpowered by the broco-tree, plus it's nice seeing him turn over a new leaf and get a proper job. Reigen is coming in clutch with the planning this episode he really thinks about his actions and is happy to reach out for the needed help which also gives us an excuse to see Ritsu so that's nice. Especially since it gives us a normal person's point of view on the sheer magnitude of such a task. Seeing more shots of the other characters get wrapped up in this whole religion mess and roping an unknowing Ritsu into being brainwashed was something I honestly did not think about but it's at least good that Reigen did not eat the candy he gave out. I shudder to think of what would happen if Reigen, the guiding force for Mob tried protecting the threat too. And even worse, if the brainwashing could extend to Mob himself.

And wouldn't you know it, Reigen did get brainwashed by the sheer power of, whatever the heck it is that did that. I guess the tree is now powerfool enough to be able to spread its influence around the city with the roots? that'd make sense. Thankfuly Mob caught on rather quickly to what is going on and attempts to stand up to it alone. Weirdly Mesato wasn't brainwashed, or at least not enough to stand in his way and now the believers think they have two founders. With Dimple off the leash, Reigen and most of the city brainwashed, Teru's status being unknown and Mob growing ever nearer that magic 100, Episode 5 is sure to give us something really grand This somewhat reminds me of the Mogami arc in some aspects with the fact that Mob is in a way singled out and i am very much looking forward to seeing it. An interesting little tidbit I wanted to point out here was also in the next episode's preview bit Reigen talking still brainwashed which is some nice attention to detail With that. KAMEN RIDER 30 DAY CHALLENGE - DAY 29: FAVORITE SHIP

I have two actually, but this is the only one that made me feel good even until now.

When Akiko and Terui became a thing after W, I was weirded out. I never felt like Ryu understood that Akiko made advances on him, or even that Akiko made advances at all during the show. It felt out of left field, but I never rewatched the show, tho.

With Episode Accel V-Cinema, even though Akiko still acted like a child, I can see how they played the husband and wife role well. I was really happy for them, even though I was adverse to it at first. What sealed the deal for me was in the Kamen Rider Chase V-Cinema, where Ryu made a guest appearance as a senior officer to Shinnosuke, even though the two of them were in different jurisdictions. After he was done, you find out he has a daughter, and he became a father over the phone. This is probably the last time we’ll get a W character since Showa vs Heisei, and I felt that this was finally the perfect sendoff for W as a whole.

My other favorite ship was Tomoko x Ryuusei.
