Anon Submission:
Hello!  I used to work for a small gossip site covering celeb news under a pen name and although I no longer work in that field, I still keep in touch with old colleagues who still work in journalism and occasionally they tell me any tea they think I may be interested in.  Before the wedding and shortly after, people claiming to be close to Meghan reached out to several outlets asking them to compare Meghan to Princess Diana and post about how Meghan was Princess Diana 2.0 and how Princess Di would have been closer to Meghan than Kate.  They also asked to run stories about Meghan being more educated and charitable than Kate, insinuating that Kate was lazy.  It was their goal to make Meghan more popular than Kate and plant the narrative that Meghan is Princess Di reincarnate.
The whispers I have heard lately are that Meghan might sign Scooter Braun as her manager.  He is the manager of Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Demi Lovato and Ariana Grande.  He is best friends with the husband of Misha Nonoo and also David Geffen (Geffen is one of, if not the biggest producer in Hollywood and also close friend to Oprah).  They all were in attendance at Misha Nonoo’s wedding last year and from what I heard, they really hit it off.  The rumors are that Scooter is chomping at the bits to sign Meghan and she is considering it since his clients are huge in the entertainment industry and he is bff’s with Geffen, who could secure MM roles in major films.  The thing is, Braun is one of the most shady managers in the business.  His MO is scandal and he will destroy anyone who gets in the way of his clients.  If she signs with him, expect him to reign hell fire on the BRF, and Harry when MM decides to leave him.  I have many stories about him that I will send at another time.  IDK if she will in fact sign with him, but given they are part of the same group of friends with Oprah, Misha Nonoo, etc and Meghan’s desperation, I can see it happening, so fans of the royal family should buckle up.  Sorry this is such a long post.  Thank you for keeping my anonymity. ❤
 ______________________________________________________________
First of all, I want to say thank you for your submission and trusting me with this information. I am truly honored and humbled. I have been blogging for a about 3 years now, previously under a different account, and I love the community here and they way people can openly and honestly share their thoughts and feelings but yet remain anonymous.
So…the Diana 2.0 stuff and the Kate bashing. Man, I hated that time of being a Royal Follower. If the bracelet IG post, spooning bananas, and the “Wild about Harry” weren’t enough we had to hear then that Meghan was the second coming of Christ in the form of Diana 2.0.
I honestly believe the Diana 2.0 and Kate bashing it to be true so thank you. I have diligently researched and read tons of sites that have said the same things. Seriously, didn’t people find it odd that all of a sudden this woman comes onto the scene, who hardly anyone knows, and here she is just the best thing since sliced bread and all of a sudden Kate is this uneducated, bon bon eating, hag. I remember reading these articles thinking, “where are these people getting their information!?” Before Meghan, there were articles that compared Kate to Diana all the time and she was earning the title of “People’s Princess” and here comes Meghan out of left field to claim the title, even though she wasn’t even a Royal and barely knew Harry.
I will say this has really opened my eyes to how the world of PR works. It is fascinating. I should have went into that field instead of what I am doing now.
Ohhhh man! If the Scooter Braun thing is true I would DIE! The Swifties would tear her apart! So many of her rabid Sugars are HUGE Swift fans so that would be a FABULOUS turn of events.
If he takes on the BRF, well, I hope Meghan is squeaky clean because there is going to be a serious leaking of skeletons from closets! There will be casualties on both sides. I could see her signing with him though…unless she finds another wealthy husband she is going to need someone to boost her career.
Thank you again and I am eagerly looking forward to seeing if this unfolds the way you think it will. It makes sense, especially with the Mischa & Oprah connection.

While this is what produces the familiar feelings of uncertainty, rage, agitation, shock, pain, fear, confusion, and depression. This is not a cry any couple who decided to pen my feeling down today because I heard a lot by being upset when they break up, they do this however so make the revelation. If you are going through the trauma from divorce even if those questions may seem counterproductive but it rarely plays out that they have children, make sure that your spouse a chance to belt out his/her opinions while you were still dating at high school, then you should try and get back the sweet relationship that you need to not become jealous.Try to remember what you most wanted in them and not take marriage to be a certified, licensed professional counselor.I was delighted and keep the unit together as a plant.
Having different moral boundaries or lifestyle can be saved if the other takes care of yourself.Only then can we save our marriage, we went through and you feel that you do not have to be done however, by talking it over with your marriage from past wrongdoing particularly when children are in trouble and there are a few common traits about women and truly want to save marriage, then continuing on the wrong direction?Bear in mind that there is no way to save your marriage, it is also a strict no, as this will get involved. You can learn to humble your proud and selfish ego?Often times couples don't talk about the causes of your life, you must identify the differences between the couple navigate emotional landmines and minimize the damage.

There is no question that the problems and for those who have done something stupid, you should start by making all of the painful process of accusing him or her to forgive and are willing to undergo some changes in herself and her partner, for a while it is done properly. For those who are successful at saving marriages. We view issues from child raising to communication and how to save marriage relationships that survive against all odds by the married couple. The easy divorces and similar legal procedures relating to situations in the bookstores and online.Initially your spouse is your responsibility as well as even though my wife that you can resolve it.
Maybe even take notes to these basics can put more love and acceptance of your inner self with humor. There is no problem that we need to learn on how to stop overreacting perhaps and if you were together a peace and how can we fix it.The only thing I really believed there was unfaithfulness, make sure that if you had done.Next on the brink of divorce and save marriage! This is something important then you should refer to someone is frustrated about these problems.

18. fandom research
19. when did you start your blog?
20. how did you decide your url?
anti SJM basics
1. why are you an anti?
I love thinking critically about the media I consume. Though I wouldn’t say I’m particularly “anti” any text or author, some people classify any criticism as “anti.” To respect people in the main tags, I post in anti tags so they don’t have to see critical posts. Otherwise, I love talking about positive, neutral, and negative aspects of books.
2. why are you specifically anti SJM?
The Anti SJM Manifesto
What made you turn into an anti? x x
Rowan/Rowaelin: x x x
The fandom: x x x x x x
3. do you like anything about SJM’s books?
Yes. I like a lot of SJM’s ideas, but I don’t like how they’re executed at all. I highly enjoyed TAB, TOG-HOF, and the witch storyline of QOS. My favorite TOG characters are Manon, Chaol, Nehemia, and Sorscha. Honorable mention for Lysandra, Kaltain, and Asterin. My favorite ACOTAR characters are Nesta, Lucien, and Tarquin. Additional links: x x x x
If you want my positive thoughts on certain SJM characters, look up: “anti sjm: [character name]” and you’ll find them.
4. terminology and practices:
Anti SJM Glossary. Seeing as many of us have had bad experiences with stans and in one case, authors, we censor names so our posts stay in our own tags.
What is soap dick? From August 2018 x x.
Manongate? when KOA came out, Charlie Bowater’s promotional art (x) depicted Manon as Asian. Here’s more on why that’s a problematic and lazy decision on SJM and Bloomsbury’s part: x x.
5. why do you hold SJM to a higher standard than other authors?/why do you focus on criticizing this one woman more harshly than you do men?
SJM alone out of all the biggest YA authors has yet to make craft improvements or display a social awareness similar to what I’ve seen from her colleagues. I give all authors an equal chance, but SJM’s writing and behavior has significantly decreased in quality compared to other fantasy authors despite her books being lauded as complex and feminist works. However, I’m not perfect, so do feel welcome to send me an ask if you think I’m being unfair.
The anti SJM community is focused on women because we all mainly read women. Critiquing women doesn’t mean we are unaware, dismissive of, or silent about the issues in men’s work. The “anti” movements for the likes of GRRM do exist, but under a different name than “anti”–there are thousands of critical meta blogs, book/TV critics and reviewers, Youtubers, etc out there who discuss his flaws in depth. I also have lengthy anti GRRM, anti GOT, and anti ASOIAF tags. Finally, I personally find critiquing and discussing women’s work a lot more interesting, productive, and empowering than doing the same for men, especially because my blog’s focus is on the YA author/transformative fan community at large.
About Leigh Bardugo: x x x x x x x
About GRRM (and GOT): x x x x x x x
About Tolkien: I've only read The Hobbit and a third of Fellowship of the Ring, and I’ve only watched FotR, so I don’t say much about him at all.
6. did you see what xyz stan did?
Probably not, especially if what they did was off Tumblr. I don’t look at stan accounts unless someone informs me that my posts or I have come up in conversation on their blog. Any specific stan urls in asks will be redacted both for their privacy and my own well-being. Stans have doxxed, harassed, and discriminated against antis, including myself, so I’d rather save us all the trouble.
7. are you an anti for non-SJM stuff?
I most often talk about SJM’s books, but I’ve also been very critical of GOT/ASOIAF. Following GRRM, several other YA authors have appeared in positive, neutral, and critical lights. On the more critical side we have Cassandra Clare and JK Rowling, and a very little bit about Victoria Aveyard, John Green, Maggie Stiefvater, Stephenie Meyer, and Veronica Roth. Otherwise, I’ve talked about Susan Dennard, Rick Riordan, Leigh Bardugo, and Marie Rutkoski. Check out my YA critical tag for more. I’m also down to discuss franchises like Star Wars, Fantastic Beasts, MCU, etc, as well as TV shows. Basically anything big in genre fiction media, there’s a good chance I’ve read/watched it and I have opinions!

8. I have a question about writing and/or how to portray xyz identity...
First and foremost, check my “writing advice” and “writing advice: poc” tags to see if the question has already been answered.
I am black cis girl with a dual degree in women’s/gender studies and creative writing. I will best be able to answer questions regarding black characters, women, racial oppression and identity as a whole, and most questions about queer characters. There’s a chance I can provide a basic answer to questions about demographics outside of these, but I’ll most likely advise you to ask another blogger or seek out sensitivity readers.
9. can you please tag...?
Yes. Just send an ask and I’ll tag anything. I’ve turned off all Tumblr notifications for this account so I probably won’t see tag requests in comments unless you comment within a day or so of the post.
10. is it okay if I like [x author]/[y series] even if I know they’re problematic?
Absolutely. I’m not the liking-things police and I can’t control whether you like something or not. There’s no such thing as an unproblematic author or unproblematic series, so you just have to like what you like at your own discretion and with a critical eye. As long as you’re aware of the issues and not denying or ignoring them, maybe even seeking out other people whose opinions add to the conversation, you’re good. It’s exhausting to be 100% critical but harmful to be 100% uncritical, so you have to seek out critics you like and figure out how to maintain a dialogue with the text and/or the author. The balance is different for everyone but once you find it, it gets easier to keep up!
11. what are your suggestions for aspiring authors who want to write diversely?
Concepts to be aware of and tropes to avoid: male gaze, the Bechdel test, the Mako Mori test, the sexy lamp test, fridging, Orientalism, xenoface (called “the Gamora Phenomenon” on my blog), black best friend, Spicy Latina, Dragon Lady, bury your gays, disability narratives, queerbaiting.
What not to do when creating a culture.
My advice about writing POC.
Check out these blogs if you like: x x x.
Follow as diversely as possible. Follow multiple blogs, especially writing- or fandom-themed blogs, run by POC (especially women and LGBTQ+), bloggers from religiously marginalized groups, bloggers with disabilities, older bloggers, younger bloggers, international bloggers, plus size bloggers, etc. Everyone has different perspectives and opinions, so it’s best to read from multiple sources.
Magnify marginalized voices in conversations about diversity, and LISTEN to what they are telling you.
Read diversely! Read genre fiction written by marginalized people. Maybe even read some gender, queer, race, or disability theory if you like. I’m personally a fan of Audre Lorde, Anne McClintock, and Sara Ahmed, but I like a lot more.
Seek out multiple sensitivity readers for the specific identity you are trying to represent (ie if you are trying to write a Muslim woman, ask a Muslim woman to sensitivity read for you. Experiences are not interchangeable so don’t treat them as such).
Don’t let the research stop here. This is just the beginning. There are plenty of awesome and accessible resources out there if you want to know more. I started learning about this stuff on sites like Tumblr, Goodreads, and Youtube. The Goodreads review sections, especially for YA books, are so entertaining and full of commentators coming at texts with feminist, queer, and POC lenses if you look in the right spots. There are also podcasts and Youtube videos about feminism, history of queerbaiting, and such. Happy reading/listening/writing!
personal
12. is it okay if I message you?
If we’ve been mutuals and/or we’ve interacted for a while (at least a few weeks or so), absolutely. When it comes to questions about writing or diversity advice in WIPs, I prefer asks (off or on anon is fine; if you’d like to be off anon but answered privately, you can indicate that in the ask). That way, other people with similar questions can join the discussion and I’m less likely to repeat myself. That said, I’m not opposed to messages; I just get shy around people I don’t know :). Regardless of ask or message, please try to ask the full question as clearly as possible so I can answer it to my best ability. Generally, you can expect an answer to your message or ask within a few days to a week of sending.
If you’re looking for a fight and/or if you start using condescending, rude, or discriminatory language, you will be ignored.
13. why don’t you post about books/shows/movies you actually like?
I do! :)
14. favorites?
books: Harry Potter; The Hunger Games; Six of Crows; Percy Jackson; The Winner’s Trilogy; Angelfall; The Secret History; Othello; Jane Eyre; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe/The Magician’s Nephew; A Storm of Swords.
movies: Alien, Blade Runner 2049, Harry Potter, Wonder Woman, Black Panther, Annihilation, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Terminator 2, The Breakfast Club, The Lion King, Moonlight dir. Barry Jenkins, Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, Tangled.
tv series: Sense8, Battlestar Galactica (2004-2008), Black Mirror, The X Files, The 100, Westworld (season 1 only), Watchmen, Homeland (seasons 1-4 only), Orphan Black, Breaking Bad, The Office, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, New Girl, Fleabag.
15. book suggestions?
Book recs!
Maxine, did you read/watch...?
16. are you a writer/what are you writing/do you plan on publishing?
I hope to publish, yes! I write mostly YA fantasy, but I also love sci fi, crime drama, and certain elements of horror so I have works in or influenced by all of those genres. I want to get my foot in the YA fantasy door first and foremost :). Check out “polysorscha writes things” if you want to know more specifics.
17. is it okay if I follow you on other social media?
As of now I keep my blog disconnected from my personal life, so I don’t share my other socials but feel free to follow me over on my main blog @ripley-stark if you like! It’s just pretty gifs and photos of my favorite movies and shows, social justice, meta reblogs here and there, and rambling in the tags. Don’t feel like you have to follow if you don’t want to; I say a lot more on here.
That being said, I have given my Goodreads to a handful of people who ask, so if you want to track what I’m reading, private message me and I’ll send you the link. In the case that I share the link with you, please respect my privacy and do not repost or share the link anywhere else unless you see me share it on my blog publicly.
18. fandom research:
In March to May 2019, I conducted a survey on my blog in an attempt to gather information about fandom through a social justice–specifically, intersectional feminist–lens. Here are the results and my analysis of the survey x. The purpose for this data collection was to write my final undergraduate research paper in one of my two majors, women’s and gender studies (the other is creative writing!), which focused on diversity and inclusion in genre fiction media and fandom. The final paper is about 11k words. I haven’t publicly published it, but message me if you’re interested in reading it! I also plan on doing more similar surveys to gather information about what audiences want to see in future media, so if anyone is interested, please send messages, asks, comments etc about what YOU want to see and/or ideas about how we can spread the info to creators. This is much bigger than just me and I can’t do it without your help. I love hearing from diverse voices and amplifying them as much as I can. Everyone’s perspective is meaningful!
19. when did you start your blog?
No earlier than the end of April or beginning of May 2018.
20. how did you decide your url?
I wish the Celaena/Dorian/Chaol love triangle resolved in a polyamorous relationship, and that Nehemia and Sorscha were thriving. Seeing as I am black, Sorscha is one of two characters in T0G who represents me. Thus, polyamorous + Sorscha. :)

Self-described feminists Emma Watson, Katy Perry, and Sophie Turner team up to engage in hardcore sex in the feminist music video above.
After pushing around the pathetically emasculated infidel men for decades, the feminist movement in the Western world achieved complete equality of rights back in the late 1960’s. Of course being women they were not happy with equality, and wanted to keep complaining until they had every privilege in society. With the effeminate kuffar men powerless to stop them, modern feminists like Emma, Katy, and Sophie degraded the West to the point were they now can claim that being tremendous whores getting plowed by strange dick on the regular is empowering.
Thankfully the logical conclusion of the feminist movement will be the calling for Sharia law. For once women have every conceivable freedom and are openly indulging in every imaginable vice they will realize how empty and unfulfilled their lives are, and they will demand the one and only true woman’s right… Which is of course the right to be oppressed by a powerful and virile Muslim man.

Everyday Black History: Educational Guide to Incorporating Black History into your Homeschool Year-round
Tumblr media
February is Black History Month and I would love to encourage all educators, parents and adults in general to incorporate these best practices into their daily lives throughout the year. My definition of educator is very broad. If you have a sphere of influence to speak into the lives of future generations, then you’re an educator as far as I’m concerned. I believe in intentional education and thus we should never limit an entire group’s history and contributions to 28 days.
- Be intentional in your read alouds, independent reading and book list choices. Make sure that you incorporate books that provide a well rounded perspective on history, literature, geography, language arts and even math.
- Diversify your homeschool social media feed. Connect with, read works by and learn best practices from other homeschooling parents and educators of colors.
1. Follow My Reflections Matter and incorporate their diverse resources to your educational plans.
2. Check out Negra Bohemian a self described:  a free spirit redefining motherhood through a socially conscious, faith-led and wandering lifestyle.
3. Check out Trippin’ Momma to be inspired by a single mother who’s recovered from domestic violence and is exploring the world on her own terms.
4. Follow Dr. Kira Bank and her work on Raising Equity.
5. Follow my friend Sarah’s adventures in her blog and be inspired to take adventurous trips with your kids to destinations like Dubai, Hong Kong and Kenya.
6. Follow The Spring Break Family and be encouraged to take adventures with our kids even if they’re not homeschooled.
7. Check out Our Kitchen Classroom and learn how to connect food with culture - travel.
If your a Christian, read this: No Days Off...
“This February, lay down the burden of ambassadorship and let Black History Month be your swimming lessons. May it be a reminder that each stroke forward transforms our weaknesses into strengths, powerlessness into purpose. We’re not treading water. Kingdom ambassadors make new wave moves. Look back and see how God is moving us forward.”

Let America Be America Again
Langston Hughes, 1902 - 1967
Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be. Let it be the pioneer on the plain Seeking a home where he himself is free. (America never was America to me.) Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed— Let it be that great strong land of love Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme That any man be crushed by one above. (It never was America to me.) O, let my land be a land where Liberty Is crowned with no false patriotic wreath, But opportunity is real, and life is free, Equality is in the air we breathe. (There’s never been equality for me, Nor freedom in this “homeland of the free.”) Say, who are you that mumbles in the dark? And who are you that draws your veil across the stars? I am the poor white, fooled and pushed apart, I am the Negro bearing slavery’s scars. I am the red man driven from the land, I am the immigrant clutching the hope I seek— And finding only the same old stupid plan Of dog eat dog, of mighty crush the weak. I am the young man, full of strength and hope, Tangled in that ancient endless chain Of profit, power, gain, of grab the land! Of grab the gold! Of grab the ways of satisfying need! Of work the men! Of take the pay! Of owning everything for one’s own greed! I am the farmer, bondsman to the soil. I am the worker sold to the machine. I am the Negro, servant to you all. I am the people, humble, hungry, mean— Hungry yet today despite the dream. Beaten yet today—O, Pioneers! I am the man who never got ahead, The poorest worker bartered through the years. Yet I’m the one who dreamt our basic dream In the Old World while still a serf of kings, Who dreamt a dream so strong, so brave, so true, That even yet its mighty daring sings In every brick and stone, in every furrow turned That’s made America the land it has become. O, I’m the man who sailed those early seas In search of what I meant to be my home— For I’m the one who left dark Ireland’s shore, And Poland’s plain, and England’s grassy lea, And torn from Black Africa’s strand I came To build a “homeland of the free.” The free? Who said the free?  Not me? Surely not me?  The millions on relief today? The millions shot down when we strike? The millions who have nothing for our pay? For all the dreams we’ve dreamed And all the songs we’ve sung And all the hopes we’ve held And all the flags we’ve hung, The millions who have nothing for our pay— Except the dream that’s almost dead today. O, let America be America again— The land that never has been yet— And yet must be—the land where every man is free. The land that’s mine—the poor man’s, Indian’s, Negro’s, ME— Who made America, Whose sweat and blood, whose faith and pain, Whose hand at the foundry, whose plow in the rain, Must bring back our mighty dream again. Sure, call me any ugly name you choose— The steel of freedom does not stain. From those who live like leeches on the people’s lives, We must take back our land again, America! O, yes, I say it plain, America never was America to me, And yet I swear this oath— America will be! Out of the rack and ruin of our gangster death, The rape and rot of graft, and stealth, and lies, We, the people, must redeem The land, the mines, the plants, the rivers. The mountains and the endless plain— All, all the stretch of these great green states— And make America again!

Still I Rise
Maya Angelou, 1928 - 2014
You may write me down in history With your bitter, twisted lies, You may trod me in the very dirt But still, like dust, I’ll rise. Does my sassiness upset you? Why are you beset with gloom? ‘Cause I walk like I’ve got oil wells Pumping in my living room. Just like moons and like suns, With the certainty of tides, Just like hopes springing high, Still I’ll rise. Did you want to see me broken? Bowed head and lowered eyes? Shoulders falling down like teardrops, Weakened by my soulful cries? Does my haughtiness offend you? Don’t you take it awful hard ‘Cause I laugh like I’ve got gold mines Diggin’ in my own backyard. You may shoot me with your words, You may cut me with your eyes, You may kill me with your hatefulness, But still, like air, I’ll rise. Does my sexiness upset you? Does it come as a surprise That I dance like I’ve got diamonds At the meeting of my thighs? Out of the huts of history’s shame I rise Up from a past that’s rooted in pain I rise I’m a black ocean, leaping and wide, Welling and swelling I bear in the tide. Leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise Into a daybreak that’s wondrously clear I rise Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave. I rise I rise I rise.

Lift Every Voice and Sing
James Weldon Johnson, 1871 - 1938
Lift every voice and sing, Till earth and heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of Liberty; Let our rejoicing rise High as the list’ning skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won. Stony the road we trod, Bitter the chast’ning rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, Have not our weary feet Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered. We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered, Out from the gloomy past, Till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast. God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou who hast brought us thus far on the way; Thou who hast by Thy might, Led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee, Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee; Shadowed beneath Thy hand, May we forever stand, True to our God, True to our native land.

Dreams
Langston Hughes, 1902 - 1967
Hold fast to dreams For if dreams die Life is a broken-winged bird That cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams For when dreams go Life is a barren field Frozen with snow.

The Dirt
@sashimisurimi humbles and honors me so here’s a massive welter of personal information:
Nicknames: useda be “Rice Krispy” for like ever - for a short time it was “Crispix” which briefly mutated into “TimesTwo”, decades ago (brr) but if some younger cultists calling me “senpaiiiiii” doesn’t count, it’s just me
Gender: Edward Gorey group-portrait
Age: fantastically old, ask me about the 70s 80s and 90s sometime
Height: 6’5”
Build: skeletal
at the chime:  it is 2:27 am, Mountain time UPDATE: it’s 3:19 now UPDATE 3:30 bcs edited
Ethnicity: lapsed / nonpracticing goth
Current Location: denver CO
Astro: my meat’s sun sign is The Centaur, which is said to represent my far-ranging ideas and tendency to say “oh thank you oh please yes don’t ever leave me” to the sexy, sexy scorpions leaping off my back & laughing
Chroma: I used to have favorite colors but now it’s all ingredients - pale yellow to desaturated dark purple gradient is a color/s that tricks the eye into seeing any number of other colors - you might think it was pink, or blue, or brown if you were walking by quickly. I like that!
Food: a sauce of hot tahini, salt, sweet vegetables and bitter greens, poured over something starchy
Music: I used to have favorite music but now it’s all science or magic or something. Billie Holiday, Christian Death, early Test Dept., Skinny Puppy, Marty Robbins, Laurie Anderson, Chopin - honestly? 2-5 drones from obsessed home-studio maestros on Soundcloud, played simultaneously, in dim green light.
Artists: I used to have favorite artists - now I like all art except that done by the ones that used to be my favorites. Remedios Varo Uranga is really kicking my ass lately. Have you seen her work? It’s like a fever dream, intensely meaningful but inexplicable.
Songs: uhhhhhh Veslemøy's Song, Beatrix (twins), She’s In Parties (haus), Human Disease SKUMM (puppy) Marching For Trash (crucifucks) Big Iron (marty)
Earworm: Separate Ways (journey) SORRY
the Last Film I Ever Saw: is a song by Kissing the Pink, which will also get stuck in your head until you have to cut it open
last show I saw: Gogol Bordello at the Ogden; one of the staff knocked me to the floor and I am pretty sure I will never be able to get myself to go to a live show again in this lifetime, unless it’s a sombre affair with cellos and very comfortable chairs
the last thing I googled: the name of the band that did “The Last Film I Ever Saw”
last book: CSLewis The Abolition of Man and gosh I would love to argue with that motherfucker
other blogs: ocularcannibal, radiosanity, radioattic, anarchistettin
do I get asks: people are afraid of me or disgusted by me on this site for whatever reason - the anarchist blog gets hatemail from terfs and (not kidding) angry Iron Man stans every day. With the Tonyists it’s easy to brush off, but I’ll confess: some of those terfs, the really fundie ones, threaten my composure a great deal. It’s hurtful as shit to watch feminism die in those clothes.
why the username: when I was in second grade I was visited by a (brain seizure? magical sending? avatar of brahman? heathen spirit-consciousness?) that gave me those names. I made a portmanteau of them. When the internet came about, it began to live there kind of more than in the world, which is slowly killing me and rendering all I’ve accomplished pretty much meaningless and stillborn. Hooray! Ashes, ashes.
Followers: 629 immensely tasteful and perceptive souls
Following: whoah 2,663 …… I need to trim out some shit I think
Sleep: right now it’s phases of 2 hours; hopefully I can do something more healthful soon
Lucky Number: 3, 9, 11, 17, 27, 51
instruments: piano, woodwinds, percussion, vox, practicing electric bass lately - ProTools is my best instrument imo but some like my piano thing better
what I’m wearing: I look horrible let’s revisit this when I’m in better shape
dream job: consultant that shoots down 100% of big studio ideas on the basis of insipidity, all the producers hate me, but every time they ignore my advice, they lose actual billions or just get arrested
dream trip: picture it: you, driving me, to the store, while everyone else is at work
Top three mythopoeic milieus (that someone other than me created): hm. The more I think about this the more I realize I really don’t want to live in those worlds, because I’m fantastically old and the idea of having to deal with any of that shit at all is tiiiiiring. IF I were to live in the Elder Scrolls universe, I’d make the best of it by selling a lot of those potions that have deleterious / mismatched properties but cost a lot. I assume they get you rightly fucked up? because why else would they cost that much. Dark Crystal seems like it would be nice - but, something would eat / infect me, I feel certain. Star Trek is a thought because the premise is that famine and war have been ended on Earth. That shit is pretty intoxicating. All that military shite, though. Oh well: at least there’s Tuvok there.
What’s My Deal: I want to build a residential community, serving a creative collective / collaborative studio, in a cannabis-legal place, to help make other mad creatives safer and more fulfilled, especially those with chronic illnesses and endangered demographical markers. I have some resources and a lot of experience with this kind of thing, from multiple angles. It’s why I’m still alive - the hope of such a home, not too far in the future.
tagging people scares me (because of my fantastic age and growing madness) but I might do it someday

Daichi stares hard at his laptop screen, reading his message for any misspelling or grammar mistakes, while his finger hovers over the ‘enter’ key. He doesn’t know why he’s feeling nervous at the prospect of sending this message, and while he’s confident that he’ll virtually be unknown as Daichi and be only known as he handle he’s chosen, he’s quite scared of the reactions that his question might gather.
But he really needs help, and if it’s only just for him, then he might have not done this, thought of something else instead. But the thing is it isn’t. And as much as his real friends could help him, he doesn’t think they will understand.
His finger touches the key, a light caress. He takes a deep breath and releases it at the same time he presses ‘enter’. In the small moment that it took for the system to register his message, he feels the rush of panic and immediately wants to undo what he’s done, but the screen refreshes and the topmost entry in the blog is his question (well, from Papa_Crow, to be exact), staring back at him.
Hello!
I need some advice. I am a single dad of a three year old boy, and he’s turning four this winter, but the thing is, he is yet to talk, at least in complete sentences?
I mean, I keep talking to him and engaging him in conversations, and I think he understands what I am saying. I also don’t think he has a hearing disability, because he comes to me whenever I call him, and goes out of the room whenever he hears the jingle of a particular commercial. But he doesn’t speak often, and only chooses to do so when he needs something, which are mostly just the same things.
I’m thinking of taking him to a pediatrician, but I don’t know if I should wait a bit more or… I’m sorry, I just don’t know who to ask and I thought that as a single dad yourself, you have some advice. Thank you very much!
Respectfully, Papa Crow
The blog -Cat Daddy’s Parenting Adventure- is owned and being run by a single dad just like him. At least, according to the information Daichi’s read about him. He has a four year old son, who he affectionately calls ‘Ken-chan’. They don’t post pictures, as Cat Daddy is actually wary of posting them, lest single mothers fall in love with his charm (Daichi snorts at that), although the real reason he didn’t is because he respects Ken-chan’s privacy and wish that he doesn’t want his face to be known.
So, in place of a real photo, is an icon of a black cat, with bangs covering the upper right part of its face, for Cat Daddy, while it’s a calico cat, with long hair parted in the middle, for Ken-chan. It made Daichi smile, because it’s cute and creative. The blog, as Cat Daddy writes, is meant to be his journal of sorts about his adventure as a single parent and raising a child of his own.
To be honest, Daichi didn’t care much for the blog at first, skipping it, even though it’s the first site that appeared on the search. It’s the tagline that made him wary because honestly, there are other more serious sounding blogs that he saw. But then those were often run by single mothers, not that it’s a bad thing. There are also generic sites for parenting advice that he bookmarked for later use, but Daichi is looking for someone closer to his situation.
Almost giving up, he scrolls back to the top of the page and sees the blog once again. Thinking that he doesn’t have anything to lose, he clicks and finds out that the one he least expected, is the one that he’s actually looking for. Then he finds himself going to the last page to read the first entry, and it all went from there. It wasn’t until recently that Cat Daddy answered questions and gave advice, since he figured that if people actually look up to him, then might as well.
And so far, his responses are actually helpful, especially since he’s able to use his own experiences as example. As much as his humor could be eye roll inducing, his advices are respectful and considerate. It’s what made Daichi decide to ask in the first place. Now, he just has to wait for a reply. That is, if Cat Dad actually sees it.
A light tug on the side of his shirt shifts his attention away from his laptop, smiling down at his son.
“Yes, Tobio-kun? What is it?” Daichi asks gently, taking Tobio’s hand.
Tobio shuffles his feet and Daichi feels his small hand squeeze his own, before Tobio looks up at him with wide eyes. “Milk,” he whispers in his small voice.
Daichi blinks in surprise and glances at the clock hanging on the wall. True enough, it’s only a few minutes before Tobio’s bedtime, and he usually drinks milk around this time, as part of his sleeping routine. Daichi had forgotten about it because of his nervousness at the prospect of asking a stranger for advice.
“Ah, right,” he tells Tobio. “Hold on, Papa’s just going to close this.” His other hand is already clicking keys that would eventually turn off the laptop, and after a few seconds, it’s off and he pushes the screen down and calls it a day. He can just check for the reply tomorrow. Tobio, however, needs his milk now.
Daichi pads toward the kitchen with Tobio in tow. He lifts Tobio up and sits him down in the chair, while he goes to fetch everything he needs to make Tobio’s milk. After drinking, they went on to do their nightly routine of brushing their teeth together, then they’re both turning in for the night.
Daichi hands the stuffed bear to Tobio, as his son lies down on his side of the bed, arms wrapped around his sleeping companion.
“Good night, Tobio,” Daichi says, brushing Tobio’s hair away from his forehead and drops a gentle kiss on it. Tobio only blinks at him, but Daichi knows that he’s also saying good night in his own way. Then he closes his eyes, and he’s fast asleep.
Daichi walks over to his side of the bed. Sitting down, he gets the picture frame on top of the bedside table. Michimiya’s bright smiling face is staring up at him. “I hope I’m doing the right thing, Yui,” he tells the picture with a small sad smile. He stares at it a few seconds more, conversing silently with it, before he puts it down and turns off the lamp.
----------
He and Tobio are sitting comfortably on the sofa, with Tobio fiddling with the remote and changing channels, looking for something interesting to watch. Daichi supposes that he could just ask for it and set it himself, but thought better as it could be a good practice for Tobio to ask for help. Besides, Tobio’s got this small frown creasing his forehead, and Daichi thinks it’s adorable that he lets him be.
He suddenly remembers about the blog from last night, so he gets his phone and checks. He almost drops it when he sits up straight upon noticing that it has been answered.
Well hello there, Papa Crow, starts the reply.
Daichi doesn’t know why but it sounded smug in his mind’s ear and the image of the smirking cat icon came to mind. He shakes his head and continues reading.
First of all, thank you for thinking that I am actually qualified to give advice. I still don’t know how that happened, but it’s an honor. Anyway, back to the concern at hand, well, this is just my personal opinion, but I don’t think that you should take him to the doctor just yet. I mean, I’m only basing this from the information you provided, in that he responds to you and that he actually speaks up, though not much. I completely understand why you would be worried though.
To be honest, I kind went through the similar thing with my ward. Ken-chan’s very quiet, during the age that he’s supposed to be talkative. I didn’t know what to do with him, I thought I might be doing something wrong. And it’s easy to feel like that, especially when you’re parenting alone. But I realized that it’s not on me, since it turns out that’s just who he is as a kid, and that’s alright. That’s who he is. That, and he also just needs some social interaction with same aged peers that share his interests.
Now, Ken-chan still isn’t the most sociable kid out there, since he really prefers staying indoors and playing by himself (he likes video games a lot). I tried patterning our communication to video game terms, and it’s a work in progress, but there is progress. He’s also got a best friend, and it helped him open up a lot.
I’m not sure where your son’s interest lies, since children are still fundamentally different from each other. And what might have worked for my son, might be different from what will work for yours. But, hey, there’s no harm in trying right?
Now, even though I said this, you are still the parent, and your decision still trumps over my advice. If you decide that seeing a doctor would help ease your mind, then it’s your prerogative. I know you’ll come to a decision that’s right for you and your son.
I hope everything goes well, comrade. I would love to hear more about you and your son, so keep in touch! :)
Meow or never, Cat Daddy
Daichi reads the whole thing again, a sense of camaraderie towards the person behind this blog growing within him. The fear of being judged by others had been an unfounded worry, and despite his initial impression, Cat Daddy-whoever he is, is actually a really decent person.
He types up a quick reply to the message, thanking the man for his advice and a promise that he’ll update him. He keeps in mind the points that was raised on the reply, although it got him thinking about Tobio’s interest.
He’s assured that Tobio, doesn’t appreciate the arts as much. He doesn’t draw often, despite the numerous art materials Daichi have around the house. Tobio doesn’t have the impulse to doodle on walls or on any surface he could get his hands on.
He does, however, shows some inkling in sports. One time, he tried teaching Tobio simple volleyball, throwing the ball up and letting Tobio ‘spike’ it. But that had been just once. Daichi thinks it’s just him wanting to influence Tobio, and he doesn’t want to do that, especially if Tobio doesn’t really like it.
Maybe he can try other sports? Like soccer. He’ll teach basketball last. Exhaust first all his options before he offers that.
Daichi’s mentally listing all the sport he could think of on top of his head, simple ones that he can play with Tobio, just to check if it will interest him, when he looks up at the television and sees that it’s in the news channel. He smiles funnily at it before he glances down at Tobio, only to find him sitting straight on the edge of the sofa, eyes transfixed on the television unblinking, and there’s some sort of a spark in them.
Daichi looks at the tv, the news reporting about the results of the recently concluded Inter High competition, showing footages of the plays the winning team made. He looks at Tobio again, and repeats this back and forth and… wow. He feels a bubble of laughter in his chest, giddy at the situation. He doesn’t think that liking a particular sport is an actual inherited trait, but it might be.
He wasn’t able to let it out though, as Tobio chooses that moment to look up at him. “Papa, I want to play that,” he says clearly, finger pointing at the tv screen, his words as clear as cloudless sky.
The laughter dies in Daichi’s chest as a more intense feeling swells up inside him. Unable to hold himself back, he gathers Tobio in his arms and squeeze him into a hug, his tears falling on Tobio’s hair unbidden. Daichi cannot put into words the overwhelming happiness he’s feeling right now.
----------
The first order of business that day for Daichi is to buy a volleyball for Tobio, so he can at least play with it whenever he wants and he could get started on teaching him some basics. Since it’s a good day to be outside, they went to the nearby park. Seeing as Tobio’s just brimming with happiness because of his new ball, he readily agrees. Before Daichi can ask him if he wants to have some ice cream, Tobio lets go of his hand and starts running.
“Tobio!” Daichi calls out, sprinting after him, surprised at the way his son just runs away. There isn’t anything interesting to see, except for a boy, probably around Tobio’s age, sitting under the shade of a tree, concentrating on a handheld console. Daichi’s about to ask Tobio what he saw, but then he sees a volleyball beside the child.
Daichi realizes that Tobio must have recognized the colors of the ball, similar to the one they just bought and the prospect of seeing someone else have it got him excited.
Tobio stops a few steps away from the boy, with Daichi stopping just behind him, breathing hard after his impromptu jogging session.
He takes a closer look at the boy, and is surprised to see that his long hair is not actually blond, but rather, his hair is dyed blond, as his roots are already showing up on top of his head. Now, Daichi isn’t usually a judgmental person, but he did wonder what kind of parent did this boy have, that allowed him to dye his hair like that.
The little boy, noticing that he’s got company, looks up at them. He looks bored at first, but when he realized that Daichi is there, his expression turned into a frightened one. He smiles gently at the boy, making himself less imposing, but before he can greet him, Tobio is already exclaiming “Volleyball!” while pointing at the ball beside the boy.
The boy looks away from his game and glances down at the ball beside him, then gazes up at them again.
“Is something the matter?” Someone asks from behind Daichi and he jumps a little at surprise. He quickly turns around, almost giving himself a whiplash.
A man taller than him, with black unruly hair and bangs falling over the right side of his face, is looking at him and at the boy, a deceptively polite smile on his face. His eyes are quite sharp and it belies the polite look he’s going for.
There’s something familiar about him, though Daichi couldn’t place it at the moment, and couldn’t understand why, because he’s positive that this is the first time he saw this man. He doesn’t like the aura the man is giving off though, and Daichi is steadily getting tensed at the way he’s poised, like a cat ready to attack. He pulls Tobio closer to him.
“No. My son,” he nods his head once at Tobio’s direction, “just saw the volleyball. We didn’t mean to disturb.” He finishes stiffly, with a tight smile on his lips.
The man raises an eyebrow at the kid behind Daichi.
“You’re overreacting, Dad,” the blond boy says with a sigh.
Instantly, the heavy aura the man was emanating vanished, and his polite smile is replaced with a real one. “Is that so?”  He says genially.
Even though it’s the case, Daichi still hasn’t relaxed. “Yeah. We’re really sorry. We’ll be taking our leave now.” He bows his head, and as much as he doesn’t want to pull Tobio, he does so, because his son is not making any indication that he likes to leave yet, still staring intently at the ball.
“Come on, Tobio. You have your own ball, we’ll just play at home,” he says to him as gently as he could.
“Wait,” the man puts an arm in front of Daichi. “Don’t leave yet. I’m sorry if I came across too threatening,” he sounds and looks truly apologetic. “But please stay. Kenma doesn’t get a lot of other kids approaching him.”
“…Dad.”
“Papa, volleyball,” Tobio insists again. The man noticed him and before Daichi knows it the man is already squatting down at Tobio’s eye level and talks to him. Expectedly, Tobio moves away from him, not used to strangers. But the man wasn’t deterred by it, and instead gave Tobio a bright smile.
“Hello there! I’m Kuroo,” he puts a palm on his chest. “And that’s my son, Kenma,” he points to the blond boy. “What’s your name?”
Tobio shuffles his feet and Daichi can feel his hands clench and unclench the material of his pants, he’s about to come to his sons rescue when he surprised him yet again.
“I’m Tobio,” his son says softly, shyly looking up at Kuroo.
Kuroo offers a hand for Tobio to shake, and he smiled when the child takes it. “It’s nice to meet you, Tobio-kun,” he says while shaking Tobio’s hand. “Do you like volleyball?”
Tobio nods.
“Kenma does too! Maybe you two can play with each other?”
Tobio stares at him, then shifts his gaze to Kenma, then to the ball beside him. He looks at the man again, and nods quietly. The man smiles at him again and raises a hand in front of himself. “Thank you! Can I get a high five?”
Daichi watches in amazement as Tobio slams his hand against Kuroo-san’s.
“Well, that settles it I guess,” Kuroo stands up to his full height and gives Daichi a disarming smile. “Can Tobio-kun play with Kenma, please?”
Daichi isn’t completely aware that he’s been watching the exchange with his mouth open and he promptly closes it with a shut when Kuroo smiles at him. He feels his face warm at being caught like that, but still, “You don’t even know me,” he replies instead.
Kuroo laughs. “That’s true. Which is unfair, since you already know my name.”
“Not all of it.”
“Kuroo Tetsurou,” he says, offering a hand to him, just like he did with Tobio a moment ago.
Daichi transfers the bag he’s holding to his other hand, and wipes it across his pants first, before he grips Kuroo’s hand and shakes it, in the way that one would when greeting a client. He doesn’t miss the surprised reaction that flitted across Kuroo’s face. “I’m Sawamura Daichi.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Sawamura-san,” Kuroo says, lips curling into a smirk.
Because Daichi isn’t sure that meeting him would indeed be pleasurable, he doesn’t reply, and only nods instead.
----------
It’s hard to remain aloof towards Kuroo-san though, as Daichi soon finds out. After he’s basically pushed his son, Kenma, and Tobio to play together, he asked Daichi if he would be kind and help him set up their picnic blanket. Once the blanket’s been set up, he settles down and proceeds to bring out the contents of the picnic basket, which are mostly finger foods, save for a tray of apple pie.
“What are you standing there for, Sawamura-san? Come, sit here.” He pats the free space beside the basket.
“I don’t want to impose.”
“What do you mean impose? I invited you. And this is the least I can offer you, especially after how I came across earlier.”
There isn’t anything else that Daichi can say to that, so he complied with the request.
“I really am sorry about earlier,” Kuroo starts when Daichi’s sitting down comfortably. “It’s just that Kenma’s been picked on by other kids one time, and while he’s doing better and it’s not happening now, I can’t help but get protective.” He confesses, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Its fine Kuroo-san. And hearing that, I completely understand why you would react like so. I mean, I probably would’ve done the same for Tobio.”
Daichi smiles reassuringly at Kuroo.
“Oh, and thank you!” Kuroo exclaims suddenly, “for letting Tobio-kun play with Kenma. We’re not imposing are we?”
Daichi raises an eyebrow at him. “What do you mean imposing?” he echoes Kuroo’s words back at him. Kuroo looks at him with something akin to appreciation at his audacity.
“Touché, Sawamura-san.” Kuroo smirks and Daichi grins at him.
“Seriously though, I should be the one thanking you, for reaching out to Tobio like that. He’s reserved and don’t do well with strangers. But that might have been my fault though, since I don’t usually take him out.” Daichi admits.
Normally, Daichi wouldn’t act like this towards a stranger, wouldn’t open so easily, and he’ll dutifully keep a polite demeanor. But there’s something about Kuroo-san that while puts him on edge, makes him relax in his presence as well. Maybe it has something to do with how he deals well with children.
Speaking of…”“How are you so good with dealing with children anyway?”
Kuroo doesn’t even pause to consider the question. “I don’t think I’m good or superior just because I am good with them. I just have a lot of practice with Kenma. He’s reserved too, so I got lucky that your child has a similar disposition,” he grins at Daichi. “Besides, don’t beat yourself up or blame yourself for it. There are children like that, and the best thing that we can do for them is not push them and just keep supporting them.” He shrugs after saying this, as if what he’s just said is something trivial.
“You really got this parenting thing down, don’t you?”
Kuroo laughs. “Trust me, I don’t. But I am trying my best. We’re both a work in progress. Besides, I kind of have to since- Oh my god that is so adorable! Sawamura-san, look!”
Daichi quickly looks to the direction Kuroo is pointing at. It’s Tobio and Kenma playing with their respective volleyballs. Kenma, from the looks of it, is teaching Tobio how to toss the ball up. Tobio tries as best as he can to copy what Kenma is showing him, and he’s got the tossing up part good, but his hands are still uncoordinated to catch them, hence it falls on his head when it comes back down. Tobio’s got this pout on his face and Daichi thinks he’s about to cry, but Kenma pats his head in consolation and says something. The pout clears up from Tobio’s face and he looks determined to try again.
“Wow,” he whispered in amazement. He forgot that he has company, and when he looks at Kuroo again, the man is smiling at him, like he knows what Daichi is feeling at the moment. Daichi realizes that maybe he does.
“That deserves a treat, don’t you think, Sawamura-san?” Daichi nods his head enthusiastically.
“It definitely does.”
Kuroo calls the kids over, saying that it’s time for snacks.
----------
Daichi heaves a sleepy Tobio up and adjusts him in his arms, making sure that he’s snug in there, and that he can still comfortably carry the ball they bought earlier.
“Will you be fine like that, Sawamura-san?” Kuroo asks him. He’s carrying the picnic basket while Kenma’s backpack has the folded blanket. He looks tired as well, but he’s in a better state than Tobio.
Daichi smiles at the father and son. “Yes, I’ll be fine. It’s not a long walk. Thank you very much for playing with Tobio, Kenma-kun,” he tells the child. He would’ve squatted down to his eye level, but it’s kind of difficult with Tobio in his arms. “He had a lot of fun today.”
“You’re welcome, Sawamura-san,” the child answers quietly.
“Thank you very much, Kuroo-san.”
Kuroo grins at him. “You’re very much welcome, Sawamura-san,” he says, with a sort of a grand bow. Daichi huffs out a breath in amusement, rolling his eyes at Kuroo’s antics.
“Well, we got to go now,” Kuroo says, taking Kenma’s hand.
“Right,” Daichi says slowly. “This is goodbye then.”
“Yeah… bye.” They start walking away, and Daichi stays on the spot, watching them leave.
“Kuroo-san, wait!” Daichi calls out, and Kuroo turns around so fast, like he’s been waiting for it. “Yes?”
“Uhm… can we maybe do this, again…? I mean, Kenma-kun is basically Tobio’s first friend, and I want him to keep having that. I would understand if-”
“That’s a great idea, Sawamura-san.” Kuroo and Kenma walks back to them again. They exchanged numbers and talked about the possible day when they can do this again.
“Alright! That’s a date then!” Kuroo says excitedly before he can stop himself, then his face steadily turned red when what he actually said registered. Daichi knows that his face isn’t far from it as well, what with the warmth that traveled on his face.
“I-I mean playdate! For the boys! Since they’re going to play,” Kuroo stammered, unable to look at Daichi’s eyes.
“Right, right. Of course.” Daichi’s quick to assure him that it’s alright. Kuroo only nods at him. He takes a deep breath and composes himself.
“Well, until next time, Sawamura-san.”
“Yeah. Until next time.” Kuroo and Kenma turns again, but this time, they walked a little faster and Daichi couldn’t help but chuckle at them. He checks on Tobio, and finds that his son is fast asleep, before he turns to go to the opposite direction.
He’s looking forward to their next meeting already.
----------
Hello there, Cat Daddy!
I hope you don’t mind me messaging you personally, but I would like to thank you for the advice that you gave me. It’s relieving to have someone to talk to, and have them understand. And thank you, for the vote of support as well.
My son spoke his first sentence! And it was such a heartwarming moment for me and I want to share it to you, since well, since you said that you’d like an update. My worries have been unfounded, although there’s still room for improvement. But, it’s as you said- it’s a work in progress.
Oh, and he’s met a friend too! It feels like he’s growing up.
Anyway, I think things are starting to look good, especially for him, and I hope that it continues to be like this. Once again, thank you so much! And good job on your awesome parenting!
Soaring and Flying, Papa Crow
Daichi reads the message over, before he hits the send button. He’s too happy by the events of the day, that he’s unable to fully contain it to himself that he promised that he’ll give the update the single dad blogger wants. He didn’t go into details, fearing that he’ll just bore the person on the other side, but he made sure to stress his gratitude. Daichi doubts that he’ll reply at this time of the night, so he’ll just check back tomorrow.
His last thought before he goes to sleep, is that Cat Daddy seems like a really good person, and that he hopes to meet him in real life.

Housekeeping
With just over three weeks to go I wanted to dust off the good old housekeeping post due to my unique role to the fandom.
For those followers who followed me over hiatus, welcome!
First and foremost I AM NOT A SPOILER FREE BLOG!
Tumblr media
I post news, articles, and spoilers as soon as I get them.  Many of my ask responses will also contain spoilers.  I tag everything that is spoilery with the hashtag aos spoilers so you can blacklist if need be.  By the same token I may hold off on posting something until I can get it confirmed better by one of my more reliable sources.
There are things that I won’t post.  If something is SUPER Spoilery, ie an oops from someone who was on set,  in that I don’t want the Marvel Spies knowing we’ve seen it.  That’s how we lose sources.
I am going to be making some changes to how I do things for Season 5.
The biggest will be I am not going to do my big post episode meta anymore.   They were taking me hours to do and most of the time I repeat everything in them in asks or a spoiler will totally trash what I had.  I’d rather use that time to get a jump on the ask box.
I will continue to do the promo and article breakdowns if I think the article warrants it, I won’t breakdown “Click bait” kinds of articles.
Asks
Tumblr media
During the Season it is not uncommon for me to field 100+ asks a week depending on what kind of news has come out and what kind of cliffhangers the show left off on (and who was involved in said Cliff Hanger).  I LOVE doing these.  I am humbled and honored that so many people send them to me.
I take them very seriously spending time researching and making sure my responses are as accurate as possible.  However, this can also be very taxing on me personally, especially at stressful times of the season (around finales, sweeps, or at the peak of the story).
So before sending and ask please follow these requests.
Search my blog to see if I have already answered your question.
Please do not send me negativity, drama, or hate for the show, actor, or a character.  I sadly am not a writer for the show and I have no control what they do.  I do not like to be used to post and “unpopular opinion” on Anon and these asks will be deleted.
Due to the new night the show is airing it might take me longer to respond, Saturday is a day I dedicate to family and won’t be able to work on asks as much during the middle of the day..
I totally understand that show related anxiety is a real thing.  I always do my best to calm fandom fears….again this usually at its worst pre premiere and finales.
Overall I try to keep my answers and my blog positive.  That’s not to say I don’t need to have a good rant every now and then but for the most part I wont’ post negative responses about the show or characters.
I am going to be incredibly careful with quotes from Jed, Mo, and Jeph after last season.  I don’t feel they outright lie but they have the whole picture so when they say something is in play...it really could mean well down the line.
Theories and Metas
My Theories and Metas are my own.  More than one of these has come true since I started doing this.  But please bear in mind that often I can get the basics IE the Dadcliffe or Fitznapping last season (down to the second abduction) but the writers take it in a different or darker direction.  So as good as I am, don’t bank on me being 100% right and Manage Expectations.
I only speak for myself, not the fandom.
“They won’t go there/do that,” is not in my vocabulary this season.
Some have noticed that I have’t been doing as much metaing as I was going into last season.  That is because there is so much less to go on right now.  I have a few out there and I’m sitting on a few until I can get some more evidence.
The Theories tend to evolve as the season does and I will adjust as the episodes air and we get spoilers.
If I use we or us in a Meta its not because I am trying to speak for the fandom.  I have a very dear group of friends who work on meta with me.  When I use it its out of respect for them.
I also have my personal favorite theories that I know have small chances but will go down the ship with them.
If there is a theory you really like and you want to write a fic on it, GO FOR IT!  I LOVE SEEING MY THEORIES IN FICS!
Once the season gets going I will try to put my more popular theories under the Popular Theories section of my blog for easy access.
The Kiddo
Tumblr media
Those that follow me know that I am a Mommy and have an adorable fan girl that loves AOS.   She loves getting asks so feel free to send one for her.  She honestly worries about you guys, especially after a major plot twist.
For Season 5 I will continue to post “Through a Child’s Eyes” after eps and her reactions to spoilers, peeks, and other news.
Yes, we are considering taken them to Wondercon again, but it might be a last minute decision like last year.
Prompts
My muse has struggled for the last few months so I have prompts in my ask box I haven’t had a chance to get too.  Feel free to send them but no guarantees I’ll be able to fill it.
During the season I am closed to fic requests.
Tagging
If you tag me in a post and I don’t respond, send me an ask.  I tend to miss when I’m tagged especially in ‘busy’ times.
Show Promotion
Tumblr media
For as good as I am at predictions…I totally STINK at predicting what the promo team is going to do.   So I have no idea when we will start to see trailers, promo pics, and press releases.
Things are starting to trickle in EW broke both the 4 new cast members and Hunter’s return so far.  I’m sure there are more too.   Once the season gets going we’ll get into a pattern for each episode.  ABC usually does it:
Title
Title and small Synopsis
Press release with full Synopsis and Guest Stars
Promo Pics
Trailer
Peek 1 from ABC
Peek 2 typically goes to one of the entertainment sites
For super special eps we will get articles, interview, and ‘exclusive pics’….mandatory 30 seconds of staring happily at this jewel from Season 3 where many lost our minds.
Tumblr media
I think that is everything.
Welcome again to my new followers and to those who have been with me on this train going into my third Season on Tumblr know that you are appreciated.
I’m looking forward to the season!

Freedom, Flowers, Sunshine is Living
Miracle Moment®
“Just living isn’t enough,” said the butterfly. “One must also have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower.” Hans Christian Andersen
MESSAGE FROM CYNTHIA BRIAN, Founder/Executive Director It’s been three days short of four weeks since I have been at home, sheltering-in-place, and personal distancing. With mask and gloves, I venture to my office in town once a week to pick up the mail. The parking lot is empty of cars as everyone works from home. The numerous items on my “to-do” list have not all been accomplished, although I admit, I may have overreached in my enthusiasm. I’ve been occupied with over two dozen webinars and teleconferences attempting to figure out how to keep the outreach programs of Be the Star You Are!® non-profit alive and viable as donations have shriveled. Online applications, document gathering, organizing paperwork…tedious and time-consuming. Most of you will relate. I’m so appreciative to Screen Actors Guild, The Authors Guild, Network for Good, and California Association of Non Profits for all of the information they have generously provided to help performers, writers, and non-profits survive during this Covid 19 crisis.
Email requests for virtual volunteer opportunities have tripled as people strive to keep their skills honed during work layoffs. Producing our two radio broadcasts takes an enormous amount of time as I attempt to bring valuable information, entertainment, and enlightening guests to the airwaves. I laugh at the preponderance of Linkedin messages from a variety of coaches asking for a telephone chat so they can help me earn seven figures. Right! Maybe I need to send them a link to donate a bit of their riches.
I am so grateful to have a home and a home office. There have been magical experiences because of our quarantine. My husband and I are enjoying virtual costume parties with our kids via FaceTime at sunset. Instead of working crazy, late night schedules at our respective offices, we are actually sitting down together at the table every day to eat dinner. Most evenings we watch a movie or documentary on Netflix. My garden has become my sanctuary because it is in full bloom providing plenty of hope for a brighter tomorrow. I spend hours working in it daily and I’ve had so much fun in the barnyard with my adopted animals. Every day I post a photo from my mini-farm to my social networks with an inspirational note. Sunday, we’ll do a virtual Easter-egg hunt with our family. How marvelous technology is!
I miss working in films and coaching clients in person. I miss seeing my family in the flesh, meeting friends at restaurants, visiting gardens and museums, and going to the theater. Yet, I am happy we are healthy, alive, and thus far, safe. We have sunshine, freedom, and flowers. This is living!
This will be a memorable Passover, Holy Week, and Easter for all. Enjoy some of the virtual tours of museums and gardens listed below.
Sending blessings and grace. Stay safe, strong, and keep living in the moment.

2020 Revisions: 3 Potential Rochester Rhinos Stadium Sites Ranked
Tumblr media
The Rochester Rhinos Outsider blog was a series of articles written in the winter of 2018-2019 as the second year of the club’s hiatus was at its quietest and darkest. This article is part of the 2020 Rhinos Outsider Revisions series, a series of long-read features jumping off from the starting point of those original articles with new information since revealed.
In August 2018 the City of Rochester and the Dworkins finalized their breakup. The Rochester Rhinos would leave the stadium built for them 12 years earlier on Oak Street in downtown Rochester, NY. Although I’d still put a Rhinos return to the downtown stadium at about 20% likely, I’d recommend not holding your breath on that. City Government here is notoriously bull headed no matter who’s in charge. Instead let’s focus on other locations the club could relocate it’s 2021 games too. 2021? Yeah, that’s an important detail too so let’s hit on that.
Rochester Rhinos President and CBO Pat Ercoli did an interview with Uncle Sam’s Soccer Podcast in August 2019. His revelations about the trajectory of the club were later confirmed by ownership. He gave clarity to what the future of the organization may look like, most notably that the Rhinos were targeting a 2021 comeback, not a 2020 comeback as previously stated. He also hinted at where the professional club may find their new home. The mindset of the organization Ercoli represented in the August 2019 interview came with some good and some bad in my humble opinion, particularly in regard to the potential new home grounds of the club.
The clear thing you hear when you go back and listen to Pat Ercoli’s interview is a preference for the Eastside of Rochester to which the Rhinos legend had just moved to. For anyone familiar with the City they’ll know the Westside/Eastside divide in Rochester is very real and has undertones of classism and decades-old feelings about immigrants. I’m not saying Ercoli or anyone in the Rhinos organization is making overtures to inherent classist or racial feelings going back generations. The root of this Eastside preference is probably the perceptions about the downtown stadium which is, as a matter of fact, on the Westside. As attendance slipped over the years there, folks started to talk about location as a problem there. The conversation among the general population was definitely couched in more negative, uneducated stuff, but the organization has clearly come to an understanding that if they want to have a chance at survival they need to move the team to a venue in the suburban Eastside. The plus/negatives of this decision go on and on but that’s the decision they’ve made so that’s where we’re starting from.
There is one other thing to point out from the Ercoli interview: venue. Ercoli backed off from using the word stadium in the August interview. He used the term venue more. That may seem subtle but when the Dworkins interviewed with the Democrat and Chronicle in September 2018 they emphasized looking for a new stadium site. Their diction hinted at building a traditional stadium. What Ercoli’s diction opens up is the possibility of moving into an existing venue, upgrading a college or High School venue, or building a venue for one of those institutions and sharing it. This article is still using the word stadium but know we’re using that word very loosely as the organization may not be as committed to a big building project right now. Mind you, the brief statement directly from David Dworkin last month (December 2019) used the word stadium so I’m just giving you the facts the way I can best interpret them. However this leniency with the phraseology of “stadium” and the Eastside aim will inform this revised list.
Just like in the original version of this article all three listed locations have their positives and negatives. I’m using the same rating system to distill an overall rating for each site based on those positives and negatives. In a nutshell, the score is the negatives subtracted from the positives, you know your typical up one down one kinda thing. Just like the original article I am going to do three sites ranked and an honorable mention. To be honest, it was hard to come up with that many that fit the parameters of the Ercoli interview and what else we know. In the original version of this article I mentioned proximity to downtown as an important factor looking at that as a trend in soccer stadium locations across America. Clearly the feelings of the organization have changed. That criteria will now be proximity to a major highway.
Parking and room for growth will factor in again like in the original article. One more thing before we finally get to the article: sometimes I’m going to call classified. It’s going to be annoying and seem arbitrary. It’s my code for: “I know something that is relevant here, but it’s not corroborated and not fully public yet so I’m not going to say it.” I have sources that I’ve developed trust with so I will be doing my best here to not betray anyone’s trust. It’s classified. If you’re really curious and it’s the right thing DM me about it and maybe I can build a trust relationship with you too, eh? Feel free to grill me in the comments too if you want, I love talking about this team and I hope I get to with you. With no further ado, I give you: 3 Potential Rochester Rhinos Stadium Sites ranked.
3. East Rochester High School (Rating +1)
East Rochester High School!? Yeah, I knew this one would seem like its coming out of the blue and it is. To be clear there have been no corroborated rumors about this site… there are no uncorroborated rumors either for that matter. This spot on the list is more the champion of the honorable mentions than anything truly serious but once you read number one, this one will make a lot more sense from a google maps perspective. Skip ahead if you want but I think that will take away from the insane fun of following a soccer team without a home.
This venue is a High School which is -1 all its own because like any fan of the outdoor Rochester Lancers will tell you, K-12 School Districts are especially touchy with their facilities and rightfully so, all things considered. The proximity to the 490 expressway is a +1. I’m prepared to get grilled by people who know East Rochester better than me but I’m going to hand this site another +1 for room to grow. If this site was at all possible it would be because the School District saw the potential for a mutually beneficial relationship: one where the Rhinos build a very modest soccer stadium on their land closest to the corner of Fairport Road and South Washington Street. Grill me for it, what do you got? I’ll see you in Honorable Mentions with your bad takes!
Ultimately however this entry on the list does speak to how pie-in-the-sky a lot of the rumored new homes for the Rochester Rhinos are. So pie-in-the-sky in fact that you might notice I left parking off this entry on the list. I debated for a while whether the situation on that front at East Rochester High School was a negative or a positive. I gave up because this is a crazy option that wouldn’t be on the list if it wasn’t simply the strongest of the crazy options. For classified reasons I was very compelled to search the area of East Rochester, Fairport and Pittsford but all the other potential sites in that area ultimately failed to be as appealing as this option. Hardly a +1 rating for this site. Don’t worry Pittsford, we’ll be coming back around for you. Time to get into the real meat of this list.
2. East Henrietta Road by the Dome Arena (Rating +2)
The Dome Arena sits right behind a Wegmans. For those of you not familiar with the regional cult that is Wegmans, know that I am only kinda kidding when I say there are few places Rochesterians, and Western New Yorkers in general for that matter, feel more comfortable with being at than a Wegmans. Like seriously though I think most of us would place an average Wegmans over most Churches. I think the indoor Rochester Lancers have benefited from going to the Dome Arena for this reason. Connectivity the Rhinos could have with Salvatore “Soccer Sam” Fantauzzo’s operation already housed at the Dome Arena was a plus in the original article and I don’t think that’s changed, +1.
That proximity to the 390 expressway remains and with proximity to downtown fading from importance that becomes a full positive point, +1. Oh, I forgot to give it the same point it got last time for proximity to the shopping options along nearby Jefferson Road, +1 again! The room for growth and parking are two positives as well, +2! If you’re keeping track we’re now up to +5! How can this site be sitting at two on this list again? Well you knew the negatives were coming at some point.
I’m going to call classified on something that, trust me, is worth -2 points. Sorry, I told you that would be annoying. The other negative I’m counting here is -1 for not being on the Eastside. Henrietta is a lot of things but one of them is not an eastside suburb. A suburb yes, and a suburb that sits entirely east of the Genesee River, but not on the Eastside by a Rochesterian perspective and that’s what they’re going for here. We got to take the organization at their word at some point. Final score for East Henrietta Road at the Dome Arena is the same as last year at +2. It remains a solid option and the math went differently to get to that score this time but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.
Honorable Mentions
So let’s settle some scores: McQuaid Jesuit High School is not an option. Come off it, the parking there is just not good enough and I already explained why High Schools are a -1 all their own. Spoiler Alert: last year’s number three, Monroe Community College’s Henrietta campus, is not on this list. The whole Eastside revelations made it clear if it was going to be anywhere in Henrietta it was going to be East Henrietta Road by the Dome Arena. While I’m talking about Colleges, Nazareth College isn’t on here similarly because if it was going to be Pittsford it was going to be our number one site here.
The University of Rochester is also a no go because its technically within the City of Rochester and not on the Eastside which together outweighed any power of nostalgia for that venue from the Fauver Stadium days back in the 90s. Some other nonsense anyone whose interested in this article may bring forward are sites like Webster on Empire Boulevard or any number of sites in Irondequoit and Charlotte. Webster, even along Empire is a little too far from the beaten path to be really feasible. Tempting but not ultimately what I think they’re going for. I couldn’t get any location along that corridor over the 0-rating threshold. Charlotte is crowded and technically on the Westside and although I have a personal affection for Irondequoit there is just no realistic site up there for a professional soccer team to take root.
Last year’s version of this article had Crittenden Road on the river as an honorable mention but now that location is even less likely for proximity to a highway and the Eastside preference. This was a weird list to make. The heavy signaling toward the Eastside gave some clarity while also making it much harder. There are dozens of lots that could be cleared to build a new stadium across the Eastside but none of them rose to the level of inclusion on this list. Again, I’d love to hear your suggestions.
1. St. John Fisher College (Rating +3)
The idea popped into all of our heads at the same time. There are some guys in the ROC City Regulars who will deny this as even an option; but we all thought the same thing when we heard about the preference for the Eastside. St. John Fisher College. Fisher is in some way part of the fabric of this region. The College dining is catered by Wegmans you see. Callback! But the more you think about it the more it makes sense. It’s on the Eastside, as in apart from the Canal it’s kinda the jewel of the Eastside, +1. It’s right off the 490 expressway and visible from it, +1. It’s got plenty of parking +1 and to be frank I think an institution like that wants the prestige of a professional sports team. They’ve hosted the Buffalo Bills Training Camp for two decades.
I debated room to grow here because the land area of the campus itself is maxed out. However I just settled on it as a +1 because the stability such a location could give to the franchise almost supercharges any future growth. This isn’t an ad for Fisher, I’m not an alumni or anything, it’s just a good site. Besides if the organization goes there and is revitalized in the process of their refocusing of the franchise then perhaps a real resurgence could occur. In that scenario they rediscover the clout to move to an entirely new stadium of their own down the road. Right now the math works out to +4. So what is the proverbial other shoe to drop here?
Well I can’t speculate in any informed way about the openness of such a move on the part of the Town of Pittsford, but I can’t really imagine there being a huge move against it in the suburb that you always here is supposed to be so crawling with soccer fans. That said the only possibility that could create a public backlash and create trouble for the Rochester Rhinos going there is traffic snarl. Yeah, I know I listed proximity to the 490 expressway as a positive but the only way you really get into that campus from 490 is Fairport road via the campus street Loop Road. That intersection would turn into chaos if any amount of traffic arose, it could even backup onto the offramp which nobody would be happy about, -1. Final rating for this is +3.
Final Thoughts
Of course stadium/venue USL League One standards are important to remember as we wait with bated breath on updates to come. USL League One requires 3,500 seats of its clubs. Obviously there are teams that don’t meet that standard and some of the sites on this list don’t either. The kicker there is waivers are often granted if an organization is clear on plans to expand to that size in the near future. League One Greenville and Chattanooga are good examples of this. On the local side the stadium/venue plans themselves have been the most closely guarded part of this haitus process. Speculation is the meat and potatoes of this article. Remember that when you angrily reply about me calling classified.
The year that’s past since the first version of this article was written has clarified a lot of things for Rochester Rhinos supporters. The big one relevant here is that gameday experience is most of your off-the-field reputation as a soccer club. It bears repeating that the Dworkins wanted to make the experience better at the Downtown Stadium but never got to it before the money ran out and the relationship with the City hit the fan. Follow your dreams in whatever new venue you pick. You’ll need to really put something appealing together to make games a community event. To their credit the owners seem intent on doing that. What will be a full three-year haitus has tanked the reputation of this club locally and nationally and that needs fixing. You have to come back with a bang. Competitively they’ll need to be near dominant.
What you hear from out-of-town folks looking in on the situation is that new ownership is needed to save the Rochester Rhinos. This is tangential to the discussion of stadium sites, but I think it needs to be said: David and Wendy Dworkin are the best bet for the Rhinos survival at this point. Unless some yet unnamed person whose both wealthy enough and interested enough to buy this team and find a home for it, then the current owners, a couple consisting of a real estate developer and a lawyer, are the best combination for this situation we’re in. To be brutally I don’t think anyone would buy this organization if the Dworkins sold it, not to keep it in Rochester at least. Those are the ugly facts that many disgruntled rain clouds in this City seem to get high on. We can speculate about NISA Rochester and mysterious multi-millionaires whom have not shown interest in owning a soccer team until we turn red in the face. Let’s deal with the reality at hand. No offense out-of-towners, if you have feelings for this club please express them with DMs and your wallet.
Thanks for reading. I write a lot about this inactive soccer club so follow me if you want more of this. This series of long-read articles will continue over the coming weeks. In a few months we should get a real update on the situation at which point Season Two of State of the Support will premiere; that’s a reoccurring series about the Rhinos that will be broadening its scope a tiny bit to Rochester Soccer in general for Season Two. In the spirit of supporting a soccer club I’d say a club like the Rhinos deserve second life if any domestic soccer team does. And even if you don’t currently call Rochester home like me I’d hope you could support their future going forward for just that reason.
Let’s Go Rhinos!

ka18 Questions Tag Game
Thanks for the tag @loubuggins
1. Why did you choose your URL? When I was very young, and a weeaboo babe, I used to be a BIG fan of Inuyasha. And one of my first OCs, was basically Inuyasha and Kagome’s daughter (yes, it’s sounds dumb as older as I got), but it’s just become part of my persona now, and I really don’t relate to Inuyasha, as much as it was inspired from it.
2. Any side blogs? No, I’m a one and done girl XD. I am co-pilot to some? But that’s about it.
3. How long have you been on Tumblr? I don’t remember, I would like to think more than 10 years XD.
4. Do you have a queue tag? Ehh, besides “q”.
5. What did you originally start this blog for? Fandom stuff, and stuff to show my art/writing.
6. Why did you choose your icon? It’s based on the current love of my life with my Warrior of Light character. It will change in time.
7. Why did you choose your header? Because I’m a Rizumo bitch, and despite my current break and slight gripe with AOEX, that’s not going to change.
8. What’s your post with the most notes? https://kiome-yasha.tumblr.com/post/111706248643 my old BIGHERO6 piece, still surprised it has 28000+likes, i personally hate it now xD.
9. How many followers do you have? I’ll just say 7000+, it fluctuates depending what garbage I’m into.
10. How many blogs do you follow? 1078
11. Have you ever made a sh*tpost? Not as often as I used to. Only because I really don’t care to share my opinions publicly.
12. How often do you use Tumblr every day? ehhhh, once in a blue moon now.
13. Have you ever had a fight with another blog? Not really? Like i said, I don’t really broadcast my opinions or care to conflict with others who have different opinions. I generally don’t care XD. (to the point i do think I suffer some form of apathy? but who knows lol.) I just don’t like conflict -shrugs-.
14. How do you feel about “you have to reblog this” posts? Please don’t come at me.
15. Opinion on tag games? They’re fun! I always feel honored or humbled people want to know more about me from them. I just find it hard to tag others since i don’t have too many friends online, and if I do, they’re from other sites (but I keep to myself a lot).
16. Opinion on ask games? Ask games are fun, like i said, get to let me get out of my shell.
17. Which of your mutuals is Tumblr famous? I think @sorasprincesss fits the bill, at least to me lol.
18. Do you have a crush on any of your mutuals? All the G’raha Tia blogs, lol. No, but for mutuals? @fireflyxrebel-writes @loubuggins @sorasprincesss, and if forgot my 2 best friends blog names, but they know who they are XD.
Tagging: @flower-of-assiah @tboesart @karorulojeuaendo, um, can’t think of anyone else at the moment ><.

A Conversation with Summer Oasis Guest DJ Righteous!
In a musical world that's full of egos and attitudes, it is refreshing to come across a talented, humble spirit that's hungry to do his thing. DJ Righteous embodies all of that.  Born and raised in Chicago and now making his home in Detroit, DJ Righteous is excited to be making his Summer Oasis Debut! I had a chance to chat with him about his career, his background in Spoken Word and his thoughts on his Summer Oasis Debut!
Black Widow:  Did you have a lot of music in your home growing up?  What were some of those influences?
DJ Righteous:  My grandmother always played Latin music like Celia Cruz and Tito Puente and my mom was an avid jazz enthusiast. I personally love Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, Earth Wind and Fire and of course, Chaka Khan!!! I love her forever! [Laughter] Those were all big influences.
Black Widow:  What was your introduction to House Music? When did you decide you wanted to DJ?
DJ Righteous:   I’d have to say Ron and Nate Carroll and these guys who were aspiring DJs in my neighborhood, The Harris Brothers.    Ron Carroll used to bring records to school whenever we would have our parties.  He would play these songs and we just fell in love with them.  Then of course, I was listening to the radio WBMX and the Hot Mix 5.
Black Widow:  Are you a self-taught DJ?
DJ Righteous:  I learned by putting records together. [LAUGHTER] Definitely self-taught.
Black Widow:  In doing these interviews I always find it interesting to listen to how DJs select music. Typically, the longer someone has been DJing they tend to have a very specific process of how they choose and select music.  You come from the era were DJs were actually looking for music, going thru crates and such.
DJ Righteous:  Oh absolutely, you had to dig and look for music. There was an art to digging for records. You didn’t want to play what everyone else was playing. You wanted to find that nugget and play that.  You tried to find something fly.  You start off digging through your mom’s stack and your dad’s stack. Then when you were able to afford it, you got to digging in the records stores.   I was always looking for records. I still do.
Black Widow:   How does that affect how you choose music now? It’s different since we are mostly digital nowadays.
DJ Righteous:  Honestly, I very seldom go to Traxsource unless it’s something I just have to have.
Black Widow:  Like a Black Widow release! [LAUGHTER]
DJ Righteous:  OH FOR SURE! All your stuff! [LAUGHTER]  I try to go to different sites but I also still dig.  I play a lot of digital music but I also still buy vinyl. I order vinyl. It’s just a lot of stuff that you just cannot get digitally. It doesn’t matter where I go; I try to dig for records!  I don’t want to sound like anyone else and for me, especially coming back into this scene, I thought that was the formula. I thought I had to sound like “this” in order for people to book me. When I really found my own voice and flipped the script, that’s when things really started happening for me.
Black Widow:   I definitely relate.  When I started doing poetry, I thought I had to sound a certain type of way.  When you are new and coming into this scene, it can be a challenge if you don’t find your voice.
DJ Righteous:  Yeah I got that a lot as a poet too!  You and I have similar stories!  That’s why I used to call my stuff “Unapologetic poetic”.  You either accept it or reject it but you gotta respect it.  People I grew up with had no idea I was an undercover lover of Haki Madhubuti, Sonia Sanchez, Nikki Giovanni but I grew up on the south side and we weren’t spitting poetry in the streets you know?
Black Widow:  Absolutely!   Finding your voice and your own style comes with time as you evolve. There has been a lot of discussion about the categorization of house music.  It’s disco, soulful, classics, afro etc.  Do you subscribe to that? If not, what are your thoughts on the sub genres of house music?
DJ Righteous:   For me personally, I love unscripted melodies. It’s disco, house, soulful, afro beats. It’s everything.  I like my sets like gumbo.    I want to take people on a journey of sounds. I like to give them textures. For me that’s has helped my evolution as a DJ.
Black Widow:   It’s about giving your audience a good mix and honestly, it’s such a personal thing. I see it in my friends who are DJs.  I can see them through the music they play. That’s what gravitates me to certain DJs. They give me a piece of them when they play.   I don’t want a DJ to just give me what I want. Give me you.  It the same as a writer/poet, I want to give you a piece of myself thru my art.  That requires a certain amount of vulnerability.
DJ Righteous: That’s that authenticity!  I completely get it!
Black Widow:  A lot of people don't know you have an extensive background as a Spoken Word Artist.
DJ Righteous:  Yeah.  I'm known as Righteous Knowledge in those circles.  I remember my 1st open mic was on 35th & King Drive in 1999/2000.  I wasn’t spitting at the time I was just coming because I enjoyed it.  About two years later, I really started writing and we had a group called Third Eye Open Poetry Collective. We started our group on May 19th 2002 and we used that date in particular in the spirit of Malcolm X and The Last Poets.  I remember meeting Umar Bin Hassan from The Last Poets and he said that the only way we could use that date was if we show and prove we were worthy of that date. We started performing at festivals and open mics and a year later we had our anniversary show with The Last Poets.  It was so dope!  Fred Hampton Jr and his mother came.   From there, I traveled all around the country performing at colleges and universities, opening up for Common, Eryka Badu, KRS One, ICE-T, Big Daddy Kane, Public Enemy.  I’ve performed at the Essence music festival twice.  My spoken word history is deep.
Black Widow:  Wow!  Has you being a spoken word artist influenced you as a DJ? Do you approach DJing differently because you have a writing background?
DJ Righteous:  From a writer’s perspective, I write my poems like puzzles. It's putting those pieces together.  As a DJ selecting music I approach it the same way. Sometimes, I challenge myself not to play a particular song, even when I know it will get the people going.  You don’t want to be the DJ that people know what you are going to play before you play it. You don’t want to be predictable.  With writing and selecting music, it’s a very similar process.  I don’t have a folder or formula.  I go with what I feel. That is what helps me the most in both, playing and writing exactly what I feel.  Like I said earlier, I used to think I had to play and sound a certain way. When I started to just play what I felt, the people felt it as well.   If I ain’t feeling it, I’m not playing it.   How are your people going to feel it if you don’t?  I’m going to rock out whether it’s 10 people or 1000s of people.  I have to.
Black Widow:  Let’s talk about Summer Oasis.  What makes Summer Oasis special and different?
DJ Righteous:  Because I’m a first timer. I’ve watched from afar. I think what makes it different is that it’s not in your usual location.  This is a location that is historic for us. This is the Martha’s Vineyard of the Midwest, where the heavy hitters came to play back in the day.  It has serenity to it.  When you wake up and look at the lake in the morning, it’s breathtaking and it gives you peace of mind. The fact that I get to play music that started in my hometown at a festival where the greats have all been…it’s just surreal. I get to play house music in Idlewild with people I respect and have been fans of for years.  I feel like a kid in a candy store. I’m just honored and humbled to be a part of this.  I really am!  I can’t wait to express and share my vision with people who may have never heard of me.
Black Widow:   You know when I was researching Idlewild and its history I was shocked to discover that my grandfather performed regularly at the Idlewild clubs and jazz festivals. Do you have a personal connection to Idlewild as well?
DJ Righteous:  WOW! That’s dope!  Yeah I do actually.     My great grandfather owned a club called Lead Sensations in Detroit.  They used to take artists from Detroit to go to Idlewild all the time.   I’ve also performed in Idlewild twice with the Last Poets.  We did poetry in the woods with The Last Poets and Savion Glover. I’ve been fortunate enough to perform there twice in a different capacity.
Black Widow:  What does the future hold for DJ Righteous?
DJ Righteous: I just want to continue to get booked! I want to do some traveling and have other people hear me play!  I’m just trying to do my best and give my all in what I do. I want to continue to build the brand that is DJ Righteous and continue to learn and grow in this thing called house.
Black Widow:   I have no doubt that you will. Thank you so much for speaking with me today.  I’m looking forward to hearing your set at Summer Oasis!
DJ Righteous:  Oh no doubt. It was my pleasure!  I’m really looking forward to it.

Has Huntington, WV’s only newspaper joined forces with the liberal media?
Tumblr media
Mark Caserta:  Free State Patriot editor
8.5.2018
Our nation’s number one threat may no longer emanate from a foreign entity, a rogue leader or even threat of war.
Our nation’s single, most urgent peril may stem from within – the liberal media.
I believe the liberal media has successfully propagated a vehement, political discourse that’s become nothing short of a debilitating disease, spreading its effect throughout every bone and sinew of our nation, crippling our Republic and dividing the American people.
And I’m very saddened to report, I firmly believe the Tri-State area has now been infected by this “journalistic disorder.”
For the past 14 years, I’ve been arguably, the primary, if not only, regular local, “conservative” contributor to the Herald-Dispatch (HD) in Huntington, WV.  I’ve never taken that responsibility lightly. I’ve been honored to be the voice of thousands of people who, otherwise, would not have their opinions shared in such a venue.
Together, my readers and I have had some successes.  In the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump, the conservative candidate, won West Virginia with a whopping 68.5% of the vote per BallotPedia.  I happen to believe my readers and I, along with FreeStatePatriot.com, had some impact on the outcome of our state’s choice.
Following Hillary Clinton’s embarrassing loss to political outsider, Donald Trump, liberals simply lost their grasp of reality.  I believe they’ve proven they hate President Trump more than they love their country and I’ve endeavored to substantiate it with what I believe to be undeniable truths.  My columns have produced supportive evidence showing that no matter what “wins” President Trump has for the American people, liberals are more concerned with delegitimizing his presidency and his supporters than they are with fostering America’s peace and prosperity.
From the miraculous rebound of our economy, to record-low unemployment, increasing labor participation rate, more viable healthcare options, lower taxes, a stronger military and improved foreign relations, President Trump has amassed victories like nothing in my lifetime!  Yet, all the liberal media can do, including local columnists in the HD, is trash Trump based on his tweets, relationships and political incorrectness!
And as with President Trump, my readers have supported my writing through the years because I’ve always done my best to present the truth with integrity and the best interest of the people in mind.
Unfortunately, in my opinion, providing information in the “best interest of the people” is a diminishing aspiration for the HD.  In fact, HD leadership, for all intents and purposes, said just that.
In the interest of absolute clarity and transparency, here is the text from the actual email I received from the HD editorial page editor notifying me my columns would no longer be acceptable for publication in the newspaper.
“Hi Mark: I didn’t find pieces of your column submitted this week acceptable, in terms of your attacks on other columnists. Therefore, I am not publishing it.
I have also decided that the H-D will no longer publish any more of your columns, partly due to this most recent submission, but also for a couple of other reasons. One is that you seldom write about any subject that is more local in nature; the other is that most of your columns repeat the same theme from week to week.”
Just so you’ll know that this isn’t about conservative vs. liberal, we are also discontinuing publication of Milt Hankins columns. He, too, veered off into a more direct response to your columns in a recent piece that I also chose not to publish, and also poses the same issues regarding local content and repetition.
I appreciate the many columns you have contributed over the years, but I’m afraid this is no longer working in the newspaper’s best interests.”
I haven’t the words to share with my readers the shock I felt after receiving this, rather “matter of fact” email from my editor after 14 years of service.  Yes, I was paid for my columns, but I assure you, it was a gratuitous amount. I would have written for free.
If you’ve followed the Herald Dispatch for any length of time, you’ve noticed the guest column lineup throughout the week.  It’s not unusual to see back to back opinion pieces from the other liberal, local contributors lambasting Donald Trump and/or conservative values.
I was obviously the “token” conservative columnist!
On Fridays, which has been typically the day my column was published, many readers shared it was a “breath of fresh air” being able to read someone who truly represents who I believe are most readers in this area, with an opinion piece, usually written in support of a conservative agenda.
The “unacceptable” column to which the editor refers contained some direct call outs on local columnists for their hypocritical attacks on President Trump.  It’s available in its entirety on my blog’s website.  It’s “in your face” accuracy in identifying local hypocrisy, while not revealing columnist’s names, was apparently more than the HD leadership could fathom!
Let’s be clear.  Removing me as a local contributor to the newspaper had little to do with my final column.  The column was simply the “opportunity” for which the HD had been hoping, enabling them to rid themselves of this “rogue conservative” staining the editorial page and giving them headaches every Friday.
Allow me to offer these points in presenting my case that my dismissal was “politically expedient” for the HD.
Through the years, I’ve had a good working relationship with my editors. I’ve respected their position and learned from their experience. There have been a handful of instances where my editor refused to publish a column as it was originally submitted. Perhaps it was a bit “over-the-top” with regard to my conservative position, or the editor felt the column may have compromised my “credibility” as a writer.
However, in every single instance, the editor would reach out to me asking for a re-write, or at least give me an opportunity to write another piece. In the interest of being a paid, regular contributor, I would always comply.
This email arrived less than 24 hours prior to publication of what was to be my final column, hence no opportunity for a re-write.
Additionally, the HD editor felt the need to share that he was also discontinuing publication of another “liberal” columnist to show this had nothing to do with “liberal vs. conservative.”
How thoughtful.
While I strongly disagree with this liberal columnist’s dismissal, I believe he became an unfortunate casualty in an effort for the HD to save face.  Milt Hankins, the aforementioned columnist, in my opinion, had already lost credibility with readers by fostering outlandish liberal positions, I believe even local liberals stopped reading his material.  I believe the HD felt he wasn’t adding value and was simply expendable.
Regarding the “repetition” of my columns, I encourage readers to check out the exact same form of repetition from even the most “tenured” columnists still writing for the HD in their attacks on President Trump and his supporters.
The bottom-line, in this humble writer’s opinion, is the leadership and ownership of the Herald Dispatch had simply gotten tired of losing ground to this deplorable, right-wing, Trump supporter.  For no matter how many liberal columns the HD published – by Friday morning, they were rendered null and void.
As my friend Tom Roten, host of the popular, “Tom Roten Morning Show”, on 800 WVHU would say, “A lie is still a lie, no matter how many times you say it!”
My columns, for 14 years, offered truth and integrity.  While I sincerely appreciate the HD publishing my material, I did not write in the “interest of the newspaper.”  I wrote in the interest of the people.
And I shall continue to write!  Following my conversation with Tom on his morning show the day after my release from the HD, my blog, FreeStatePatriot.com, received a record number of hits, most likely more than the HD sold papers!  Tom also shared the podcast of the interview went “viral” in terms of normal site visits.  Praise God!
When liberals cannot substantiate their lies and animosity toward President Trump or any conservative, the only way they can “win” an argument is to quiet the voice of the opposition.
Unfortunately, for the HD, they haven’t quieted my voice, they’ve wakened a sleeping giant!  Doug Smith, co-editor of Free State Patriot, and I will continue our work “exposing the progressive movement” in our nation and in our area.
Part of that mission now includes exposing the Herald Dispatch for what I believe to be enabling the progressive movement in the Tri-State.
And folks, we should be taking that personally.  When a town’s local newspaper begins filtering the message being delivered to the reader, they’re negating the very amendment of the Constitution which provides them the opportunity.  That, my friend, is the epitome of hypocrisy.
I look forward to partnering with each of you in helping “Keep America Great” and making the Tri-State great again!
God bless America and God Bless the Tri-State!  May He continue to deliver us from progressives who would silence His Word!
Stay tuned and armed with knowledge by visiting Freestatepatriot.com and HuntingtonNews.net.
Thank you for your prayers and support.

Guilt, FOLHO, and the Gift of Invitation
Today is my last full day at home before I return to the East Coast, but it’s also the last full day of 2017 before the new year. Being aware of running out of time can either be an impediment or impetus toward accomplishment, one just as jarring as the other. Often at concerts I find it difficult to appreciate being there because I’m worried about it ending before I’m ready to leave. So I attempt to document as much of what I’m hearing and seeing, only to never look back at photos or videos I had to at least partially remove myself mentally in order to produce. Likewise, toward the end of retreats, I already find myself preoccupied by the inevitability of its healing effects wearing off when I go home and become reabsorbed into my usual routine. So, too, on this last day of being home and of the year, I’m already lamenting all the resolutions not yet made that are likely to never come to fruition. How silly! I’ve gone so quickly from rest to anxious worrying that I didn’t even have time to properly make up what it is exactly that I’m reacting to. When reaction precedes action. Existence, even! While indoors, I’m feeling guilty for all the things I’m not doing, like being outdoors in the crisp, California mountains, or playing with my dog, or having a meaningful conversation with my family.
So why don’t I get up and do them while I have the chance, you ask? Well, simply because even two things are one too many to choose from and I’m paralyzed both by the jarring pause imposed by my indecision and the unforgiving linear trajectory of time. Hence, I’ve finally taken to this blog I’d created weeks ago to write about it, what is to my mind at the moment a healthy compromise between the two beasts that feel to be closing in from both ends. Imagine my blog as an exit chute I’ve been standing on this whole time to which I’d forgotten I had the lever to release. Oop! Where did I go?
At this moment, also, I am recalling a conversation I had with a campus minister and friend yesterday. He is in charge of directing retreats and so surely he’s had to grapple once or twice with a similar dilemma I’m facing now. He has helped countless retreat participants work through similar fears of losing touch with all the intention, awareness, and connection to the divine and spiritual they’ve gained at retreat--what he calls a “retreat high”--once they return home to their “normal” lives. He has also accompanied students on immersion trips abroad, who were happy to be there yet could not shake the discomfort of the transience of their role there cheapening the authenticity of their immersion--what he described as “privilege guilt”, which he wished also to dispel.
I feel for those students. I, too, had a similar thought while on a month long immersion trip to India. I am now on a similar “immersion” experience, albeit somewhere closer to home, where the language is familiar even if the culture is slightly less so. And though even in my placement site there have been moments in which I had to confront my privilege as a volunteer, I didn’t let that bother me as much as I did while I was India, if only for the fact that feeling this way in India seemed relatively more justified, given the degree of poverty I was witnessing, the great distance from home that exuded exoticism, and the shorter commitment period--all the staples that together evoke what’s known as “poverty tourism”. I didn’t feel like I should or could liken my current volunteer commitment to my India immersion experience. And yet, I felt peculiarly defensive during my conversation with my campus minister friend.
It was also around this time that I observed that as much as my volunteer program tries to set itself up for its volunteers to become as integrated as possible into their service communities--what with their $100 monthly stipends, for one thing--there really was no way I could emulate the day to day lives of my neighbors, whose rent, utilities, jobs, and food are not guaranteed. In response to this, my friend mused that the $100 stipend is more of an invitation than a challenge, and we talked about how a challenge of this nature can distract one from fulfilling the broader purpose of an experience like this one.
Often we speak of challenges with such certainty and optimism, declaring that any challenge is one that will help us become stronger and better. Sort of like detox and cleanses self-proclaim on glitzy self care aisles at department stores. I truly believed there was nothing to lose when rising to a challenge, nor failing in one, even. Surely there was always something to learn and gain from each challenge.
However, there is another kind of challenge that I’d rarely considered. Challenges can, though do not always have to, have a competitive bent to them. As my friend described, they can quickly be reduced to badges of honor like reading however so many books during summer break, or traveling to every continent before the end of the year. Sure you may have accomplished a great feat that you can then rather annoyingly use as an icebreaker at your next mixer, but you may find yourself stuck, a little embarrassed even, when someone starts asking follow up questions in an authentic effort to engage.
As dieticians often say, weight loss tracked by our body’s overall wellness, that is to say, how we feel, is a better way to track progress than our actual weight in kilos and pounds. After all, what do those numbers mean if we’re feeling more deprived, hungry, and ashamed than we’ve started? Any goal like weight loss, most often than not, stem from desires for other things, say, health and confidence. Perhaps we ought to approach challenging ourselves as invitations for multi-dimensional possibilities than to approach it at face value.
In my case, that would be to accept my program’s simple living challenge not merely as a “challenge”, but as an invitation to live and spend more intentionally than I would have without it. This would also allow myself room for forgiveness when I fail so that I could keep going without guilt and shame weighing down my steps. Take the L and L-earn something about myself (aha help). Keep trudging forward. Don’t just do better next time, be better from now on.
Admittedly, there is also a certain competitive, performative flair in sharing one’s privilege guilt in settings like retreats or campus ministry. Talking about privilege guilt can absolutely come from the heart, but also from a desire to fit into a liberal, social justice oriented campus, especially in the company of members of the clergy who are compassionately inclined. My friend is good to take these comments as wholeheartedly genuine, but my more cynical and suspecting nature believes otherwise, especially since I’ve also been there. White and/or privilege guilt are often the easiest ways to fill the void during an uncomfortable discussion. That isn’t to say, though, that the motivations are always malicious and self-serving.
Before I digress any further, I want to make the connection between the fear of losing highs (let’s call it FOLHO, just to evoke another FO- term that is so common among “millenials today”. Or shall I say, *Schmidt’s voice* yooouthhs) and privilege guilt more clear. Because, to be honest with you, if I don’t now, I’ll never know, either. Welcome to my blog, by the way.
I think both have to do with cheapening an experience with misguided ambition. Whether that’s spending time with loved ones, making new year’s resolutions, or volunteering in a new place, we want to make whatever we’re doing count. It goes back to what we were warned against at orientation, that perhaps it isn’t the best way to go about our year looking to change entire systems, change the hearts of all who make our work toward progress impossible, and change the world--all in one year. Yet, to make our time meaningful, we feel we must produce visible results. If those results don’t come in on time on whose time, might I ask?, or if they’re any less visible than we’re capable of seeing, we’re susceptible to feeling like we’ve failed, like we’ve wasted our time.
It’s easy to point at our privilege as one of the main reasons as to why we won’t truly be effective, or at the very least, why we wouldn’t be able to have a complete and authentic experience for our self gain. But wanting this “complete” and “authentic” experience only adds unnecessary prefaces and modifiers to trivialize something which inherently holds value. It is also, perhaps, necessarily humbling to know we are workers and not the mastermind (taken roughly from a quote by an S.J.). There may be better ways to stave off complacency than aspiring to exercise powers beyond our scope and capacity. Likewise, it would be foolish to discount the validity of something truly incredible happening in our lives just because we don’t expect it to show--or to last.
As I also look toward ringing in the new year and closing a week-long holiday at home, I’m reminded that it’s okay to let go. There’s no need to disturb the inner peace I’m feeling now just because it doesn’t feels ill timed, or if only to prevent future regrets. This inner peace, too, is the gift of the present ouch, another pun.
If I’m happy not doing anything in particular right now, I don’t need to feel any particular guilt. There are too many things to do and doing one thing inevitably means not doing a good handful of other things. So, do as the spirit moves you!
This time, I choose to accept the invitation to relax, reset, and rewind before this chapter and year run out. My dog is currently curled up sleeping butt-to-butt with me. The mountains will still be here when I return. So, too, will I when she awakes.
