i understand a desire for attention; I understand wanting recognition for hard work (however a person personally defines that for themselves). I understand that most posting on the internet is done with oneself in mind and not much beyond that. But it would behoove people to think long and hard before posting weight-loss “before and afters,” or any kind of health-related testimony, because all it does is reinforce diet culture, purity culture, and the value of one body type/state of being over another. I know this because I was one of those people. After I lost a bunch of weight in my early 20s I carried around before and after actual photos, because this was before smart phones. It was a way for me to not only reassure myself that I “did something,” but to offer proof that whatever any person—stranger, acquaintance, friend—happened to think of my body, look! I was so much bigger (i.e., so much worse) once! Please like me! Please be proud!
The truth is, it didn’t fucking matter what strangers, acquaintances, friends, or family thought of my body. Their opinion is theirs and not my business to know. And if someone had already made their mind up about me, no amount of testimony via visual representation of my “hard work” or “discipline” was going to change that in a way that would be beneficial, satisfactory, or safe for me. If seeing my body in a before-and-after state can make someone feel more approving towards me, I don’t want to be associated with that person. If their approval hinges on my adherence to diet culture or a visual representation of “health,” why would I want it? Same with substance use of any kind. I used to smoke a lot of weed for my anxiety; I don’t anymore for various reasons, but it’s not the be-all and end-all of who I am, and it’s no reason to be proud of me. I might smoke it again in the future, and that shouldn’t be a reason to see me differently.
Also, if I’m constantly looking back at a former version of myself, trying not to be that person, then all I’m doing is training my potential on a very small target, making my aim contingent on fear. This goes for basically anything—maybe you were a shitty high school bully, or you’ve struggled with substances, or you live in shame about some other habit you used to have or behavior you embodied. If you are looking towards the future with a goal to be the best person you can be for yourself, you have worth, and you needn’t be afraid of “slipping.” Constant vigilance is the path to fruitless obsession and may even leave you standing still in the fallow field once planted with your human potential. Being formerly fat and thin now, or once a user of and now abstinent from drugs/alcohol is fine and ideally judgment neutral, but it’s a trap to make those things the foundation for your personality, or to count a streak of time without a certain food/drug/behavior as the measure of who you are as a person.

Whenever there came an opportunity to bet money on something or play on a slot machine of some sort, the lye lit up in a way that Edgar found equally as worrying as he did endearing.  Why is it only when you’re throwing things away that you find any joy in what you’re doing?   “In an effort to cut his habits down, I learned to play so that we could do so in a way that we could both control.  He could still make some bets;  I could stop him if it became too pricey or too stupid.”
    “It works?”   he asked, shuffling his cards around before discarding one, replacing it with another.

    “Eh.  Varied results.”   He picked his own card to throw away, taking one from the pile as Ronnie’s previous one didn’t help him any.  Though he didn’t intend to play the game all the way through, he still felt some sense of commitment towards making good choices.  Perhaps I don’t want him to have a final high before he dies.   “What made you open up a bar?”
    “Is this a tactic?  You tryna distract me?”
    Edgar spared him a brief chuckle, tail coiling behind his head.   “I’m just curious.  I own a tavern.”
    “Ohhh.  That makes a lot of sense.”   Ronnie paused to take a long swig of alcohol, his legs suddenly propped atop the table.   “Yeah no, I just wanted to make some place that was different, y’know?  Somewhere kinda charming but not as in-your-face as a club.  Vide’s got too many of those.”
    “Ahhh,”   Edgar said, chuckling.   “That’s funny.  I figured you did it to rape women more easily.  To get them all drunk and high and incapable.”
    There was a heavy silence, one devoid of the niceties they’d both been exuding up until that point.  Then, in a frustrated voice:   “Excuse me?”
    “You’re not excused,”   he said breezily, swapping his card for one on the pile.  At this point, he could feel Ronnie’s stare burning a hole into his skull, indignation hot and fierce.  When he didn’t say anything, Edgar lifted his gaze to his, head tilting to one side.   “Mhmm.  I know what you did to ‘NeeNee’.  She told me everything.”
    He seemed to go pale then, shooting up from his seat and demanding that he left.
    “I knew it.  Your pokerface is certainly only for card games,”   Edgar replied, remaining seated.   “So?  How was it?  Did you have fun?”

    “Did you?”   he spat back, furiously trying to deflect blame.  When Edgar looked up at him again, he continued, an enraged spiel beginning to leave him.   “Everyone could hear you two in there, you fuckin’ sicko.  It’s bullshit for you to be pointing fingers like this!”
    “The difference being that she begged me to do it,”   he replied calmly, shuffling his cards around until placing them face-down on the table.   “She couldn’t get far away enough from you if she tried.  She likes me, you see.  That’s not something you’re so familiar with, is it?”
    “Fu--”   He was interrupted by the hybrid’s tail flitting by his ankle, slithering upwards until the forked end could get caught in his shirt collar.  It dragged him close, his hip slamming painfully into the side of the table as he all but tumbled onto the Alpha’s lap.  His words caught in his throat as fear took a hold of him.
    “If you ever insinuate that I rape my inferiors again, I’ll take your eyes and feed them to you, understand?”   Edgar hissed.  Perhaps a little introspection would do you good regardless. If you could look inside yourself, maybe you’d be able to see what a scumbag you are.
    Ronnie hesitated, nodding feebly, though it was clear he was still pissed off.   “Why’re you here?  It was just a bit of fun.  You just left her there--”
    “She told me to leave, so I left.  She did not tell you to lay your hands on her.  Did she?” The room was silent, and that ticked him off enough to stand up, slamming the man’s head down onto the table.   “Did she?  She didn’t tell you to do that, did she?”
    “NO, Ch-Christ, let me--  what’re you--  WHAT’RE YOU DOING?!”   He began to struggle as he felt the man above him feeling around his waist line, his pants loosening from his waist. His fingers curled into the table, legs kicking furiously, terror building up in his throat like vomit as he began to scream.

    “What’s the phrase...  ’karma’s a bitch’, eh?”   Edgar asked, asserting more of his weight atop him as he wrestled his pants to his ankles.
    “Oh my fucking God, don’t--  you’resomuchfuckingbiggerthanme--”   He was beginning to sob, sanity slipping through his fingers as he felt himself going numb with fear.  He was bucking and squirming as much as he could, adrenaline rushing to his head, and then all at once he’d frozen still, body seizing up, tears blurring his vision as he felt the other man’s hands tear and rip and push--
    -- and then the pressure was gone.  When he dared to open his eyes again, he barely had time to see anything before he was dragged up by his hair, body meeting Edgar’s sturdy frame effortlessly.  He felt foolish standing there in just his underwear, though he was too terrified to think about retrieving his pants.  He just stood there like an idiot, wheezing through tears and whimpers, and when Edgar’s cold hand gripped his chin, the sounds only got worse.
    “... I want you to remember that,”   he told him softly, voice hot against his ear.   “That fear. I want you to carry it with you to the grave.  And every time you recall it, I want you to think of that poor, small girl that you took advantage of in the bathroom.  Do you understand me?”
    He nodded quickly, sniffling for all he was worth.   “G-God, yes, o-of c--”
    “You revolt me.  I couldn’t do this for the life of me.  I couldn’t regardless, because I’m not an animal, but especially not to you.  You make me sick--”   He didn’t think about what he was doing when he spat at him.  In truth, he hadn’t meant to--  only realised when he was staring at a missing patch of skin, pale white bone revealed, the screaming fading in as he came to terms with it, and that was the beginning of it all.
    I was going to let you go, you know.  I was going to hurt you, badly, but I was going to let you live.  Carry that guilt around for a while.  But we can’t go back, can we?

    He couldn’t stop himself from beating him.  Edgar didn’t often punch people.  He was more keen on scratching;  on scraping until there was nothing left for his claws to get caught in.  He enjoyed the feeling of blood beneath his nails, of gore between his fingers…  but punching certainly relieved more stress.  By the time he was able to stop, he became aware of Ronnie’s rattled breathing, as if oxygen was being shook around in his lungs before being expelled as a measly puff of air.  Bent over him on the table, he realised that the other man had been right:  he really was so much bigger than him.  It wasn’t hard with his height, but it really put things into perspective nonetheless.  You’re nothing.  You’re like a rabbit to me, only you serve less of a function.  You’re dirt.  You’re the bitch I refused to become in this life.
    “Look at me,”   the Alpha demanded heatedly.  His smile was nowhere in sight.  How could it be when he was this angry?  When Ronnie failed to open his eyes, the lye snarled, hand closing around his throat.   “I said look, at me,”   he pressed, squeezing hard.  With a choked noise, the bartender cracked one eye open and stared at him.  Whatever light had been there had been squeezed out of him.   “This is--”  
    His words were cut off as a glob of blood was spat at him.  It rested on his cheek, viscous and thick, and his brow furrowed slowly.
    “Fuck you,”   Ronnie muttered through shallow breaths.   “Y-You’re gonna kill me?  You’re gonna kill me for one little girl?”   he asked, voice high-pitched and breathy.   “I loved fuckin’ her.  She whores out for you so she ain’t tight, but she--  she forgot all about you--  she didn’t give a shit about who you were when my dick was inside her.  ‘Alpha’ my ass. Alpha of what, the fuckin’ children?”
    The words rang out like a siren in his head, bouncing against the walls of his skull like ricocheted bullets.  A bloody hand reached up to wipe his cheek slowly, ridding it of the saliva that offended him so, before a chuckle left him. It was quiet at first, though it quickly turned shrill, teeth remaining grit together in a perfect smile as he did so.  Where does your voice come from?

    In a distorted, crackled voice:   “YOU WANT TO PLAY GAMES WITH ME?  AHAHAHA--”   He didn’t say anything else, reaching across the table until he could grab some loose poker chips, shovelling them into his mouth.  He pushed them so hard that several teeth broke along with it, one chip tumbling free and lodging itself in the back of his throat.  Ronnie began to struggle, choking, but Edgar refused to give him any relief as he held him still against the table. When he was on the very cusp of death, skin fading after being a terrible pink, the Alpha pulled him up and dragged him close, weight pressed into his stomach.  A mess of poker chips and vomit came spurting free like confetti from a party-popper.  The man immediately hunched, feeling his stomach turn as he tried desperately to catch his breath, groaning when the lye wrapped his tail around his leg.  He suddenly tugged hard, a sickening crack resounding in the well-lit basement, and Ronnie screamed as a searing pain consumed his lower half.  The tears were starting again, words and apologies garbled messes as the Alpha grabbed at his face, propping it in his direction.   “I suppose it’s kind of hard to talk shit when you’re choking, hm?  Hm?  Do you have anything else to say, wise-guy?”
     Ronnie shook his head quickly through horrified wails.  Where’s my leg?  My hip’s in the wrong place.  
     “No, I didn’t think so.  Let’s just--”   He reached into his mouth then, claws acting like a pair of scissors as he scraped at the man’s tongue.  He continued until he could feel the tip of it coming loose, Ronnie’s mouth a mess of blood and vomit.  When it was free, Edgar pulled it away, inspecting it under a lightbulb as if it was a rare jewel of some kind.   “Let’s just take that. I don’t want my title in such a dirty mouth.  And you won’t make another blunder like that again, will you?  Win-win.”

    The lye took a moment to pause, letting the man’s body crumble to the ground as he leaned against the table.  Bloody hands reached into his coat pocket for his pack of mock-cigarettes. One was lit slowly, a controlled breath taken in and then heaved out.  As he smoked, he thought.     Only when he’d finished his smoke did he tune in to the man’s pathetic crying.  An ear flitted in his direction, the hysteria plain in each laboured breath as he attempted to pick himself up, broken leg leaned on for the briefest of seconds before he gave into another shriek, sinking to his dominant knee again.  As Edgar stared down at him with cold eyes, he was stricken with a thought so primitive that it surprised him:  you’re not even an inferior.  They’re too good for you. You’re a parasite.
     With a quiet huff, the Alpha stood up again, putting his cigarette out on the back of Ronnie’s hand before reaching for the alcohol he’d been drinking beforehand.  He considered taking a sip before deciding against it.  Not only do I not need it, his dirty mouth’s been on it.  It was smashed against the table, jagged edge brought to the light for him to inspect as liquor spattered against the floor like blood.
    He watched with black eyes as his target attempted to slide on his knee away from him, though it looked more as if he was trying to hop.  Every time Ronnie placed even the slightest of pressure on his wounded leg, he would whimper and shake, sometimes even wail.  Eventually, Edgar became bored, standing up and making his way around the table, the neck of the bottle squeezed tight as he gained a firm grip in Ronnie’s hair, pulling him against his legs.  Had he been able to speak, he likely would have tried to bargain for his life.
    “I’m through with you,”   he said without feeling, as if his favourite toy’s batteries had died and he’d decided he didn’t like it as much when static.   “Let it be known that this was completely unavoidable.  All you had to do was keep it in your pants!  That was it!  And hell, had she said yes--  you could’ve had at it!  Gone like little bunny rabbits for all I cared!  But that’s not how it happened, is it?”   Whatever playfulness entered his voice was gone when he spoke again.   “You’re a coward.  You’re a liar.  And you’re a rapist that decided to mess with the wrong woman.  You have no business here.  You’re nothing  -  and you deserved this.”

     The way he stabbed him could have been described as intimate.  The glass of the broken bottle slid into his neck much like a patient lover would his partner;  perhaps serving as a final reminder as to how he should have handled his women.  Edgar listened to him choke and splutter, a hand clawing loosely at one of his pant legs before it dropped to the ground, his body slowly going limp.  As Edgar released his grip on his hair, the body collapsed at his feet with a sad slumped sound--  like a small bag of stones hitting the bottom of a river.  You were dead long before that, Edgar thought as he stared emotionlessly at the dead man before him--  still with his pants around one of his ankles like a fool.  I’m not like you.  I granted you mercy even though you deserved none.
    The glass was put down on the table gently, as if he was afraid to smash it further, hands humming with energy as the high of the kill slowly sank into his bones.  Deep down, he knew he shouldn’t have found as much enjoyment in that as he did.  It was supposed to be a business endeavour;  a prod in the right direction.  He was supposed to take his life and leave, not linger and make a mess, but it seemed that he just couldn’t help himself.
    I have needs too,  he thought, circling the table as he considered how best to proceed. However he did, he knew that he had one hell of a clean-up on his hands.  The Vide task force was lazy, but he knew that Kuro had given some of their officials a swift kick up the backside. Some of them would care about this case, if only for a little while.  The last thing he needed to do was leave any trace of himself behind
    A hand hesitated before flipping his cards back over.  Upon seeing them, he winced, the smile stretching back across his face.  It’s just as well I didn’t come solely to play.  I would have lost.

If you see a poor man, take pity on him
Fasting and Abstinence
According to a Catholic Dictionary, 1951 the definition of:
Fasting: is concerned with the quantity of food eaten and so must be distinguished from abstinence. The law is that on fast days only one full meal may be taken. Fasting is imposed on those over 21 and under 59, but severe work, whether manual or mental, sickness or debility excuse from obligation (see your parish priest for dispensations). Collations may normally be taken on fast days if they do not add up to a second meal.
Abstinence: refers to the refraining from eating flesh-meat or soup made from meat, and is to be distinguished from fasting, with which it may be combined. Abstinence is normally obligatory for all who have completed their seventh year, on specific days of the church year.
There are many references in Scripture to fasting and abstinences. Several examples are: "Prayer is good with fasting and alms more than to lay up treasure of gold..." (Tobias 12:8-9); "And when you fast..." (Matthew 6:16-18); and "And as they were ministering to the Lord, and fasting..." (Acts 13:2-3). Other examples in Scripture can be found in: 2 Esdras 1:4; Acts 14:22; Matthew 4:1-2; and Matthew 17:17-20.
In the time of Christ’s Incarnation, practitioners of the Old Testament religion fasted or abstained on Mondays and Thursdays, but Christians opted to take Wednesdays (the day Our Lord was betrayed) and Fridays (the day Our Lord was crucified) as their penitential days.
Wednesdays and Fridays are still days of penance in most Eastern Catholic Churches (and among the Orthodox), but in the Roman Church, only Fridays, as memorials to the day Our Lord was crucified, remains as a weekly penitential day on which abstinence from meat and other forms of penance are expected as the norm. The rules governing fasting and abstinence are found in the 1983 Code of Canon Law (# 1249 to # 1253). Always remember, that the priest can give a dispensation for medical reasons and that true charity trumps all law, and law exists to serve true charity!
Why Should We Fast?
There are many reasons why we should fast. Even if there were no other reasons to fast, we fast out of obedience:
Our Lord and His Apostles tell us to do so. We also fast to discipline the body so that we can focus more intently on the spiritual. And we fast to do penance. This last reason is described by Pope Clement XIII in his "Appetente Sacro," written in 1759. In this document, he exhorts his Bishops to explain to their flocks the reason for fasting:
"… penance for the Christian man is not satisfied by withdrawing from sin, by detesting a past life badly lived, or by the sacramental confession of these same sins. Rather, penance also demands that we satisfy divine justice with fasting, almsgiving, prayer, and other works of the spiritual life.
Every wrongdoing– be it large or small– is fittingly punished, either by the penitent or by a vengeful God. Therefore we cannot avoid God’s punishment in any other way than by punishing ourselves. If this teaching is constantly implanted in the minds of the faithful, and if they drink deeply of it, there will be very little cause to fear that those who have discarded their degraded habits and washed their sins clean through sacramental confession would not want to expiate the same sins through fasting, to eliminate the concupiscence of the flesh..."
The Proper Attitude When Fasting
St. John Chrysostom, in this excerpt from Homily III of his "Homilies on the Statues," summed it up well:
7. ...We have to fast too as an ally, and as an assistant in this good intercession. Therefore, as when the winter is over and the summer is appearing... the soldier burnishes his arms, and makes ready his steed for the battle... So too, when the fast makes its appearance, like a kind of spiritual summer, let us as soldiers burnish our weapons... and order our thoughts against the waves of extravagant desires...; and let us set a journey toward heaven…
8. ...Real fasting is not merely an abstinence from meats but also from sins. For the nature of a fast is such, that it does not suffice to deliver those who practice it, unless it be done according to a suitable law... To that end, when we have gone through the labor of fasting, we forfeit not the crown of fasting, we should understand how, and after what manner, it is necessary to conduct this business; since that Pharisee also fasted. While the Publican who had not fasted; was accepted in preference to him who had fasted; in order that we may learn that fasting is unprofitable, except if all other duties follow it...
Fasting is a medicine and it is necessary to know the time it should be applied, and the requisite quantity of it; the temperament of body that emits it; the nature of the country, the season of the year, the corresponding diet as well as various other particulars...; Now if, when the body needs healing, such exactness is required on our part, much more ought we, when our care is about the soul, and we seek to heal the distemper's of the mind, to look, and to search into every particular with the utmost accuracy.
9. ...These things are said for the honor of fasting because it consists not in the abstinence of food, but in the withdrawing from sinful practices; since he who limits his fasting only to an abstinence from meats, is one who especially disparages it. The proof of fasting is in the works. What kind of works? If you see a poor man, take pity on him! If you see an enemy, be reconciled to him! If you see a friend gaining honor do not be envious of him!...
Aside from the mandatory laws of fast, all true Catholics should regularly want to practice fasting along with prayer, as a means of penance. To avoid fasting during the year is not Catholic!

celibacy is meant for us until marriage
where two bodies become as “One” body through sex shared between husband & wife. this is our Creator’s design. each life begins on earth at the genesis spark of conception to form in the womb as either a daughter or a son to an earthly mother & father when their seeds combine. we don’t choose our gender nor can we change it, no matter what is done to the physical body to appear as so. people die naked in the same gender they were born and what matters is if the heart is reborn in Light in the True illumination of the Son.

Today’s reading of the Scriptures from the New Testament is the 7th chapter of the Letter of First Corinthians where Paul writes of sex and marriage and singleness as well:
To Be Married, to Be Single . . .
Now, getting down to the questions you asked in your letter to me. First, Is it a good thing to have sexual relations?
Certainly—but only within a certain context. It’s good for a man to have a wife, and for a woman to have a husband. Sexual drives are strong, but marriage is strong enough to contain them and provide for a balanced and fulfilling sexual life in a world of sexual disorder. The marriage bed must be a place of mutuality—the husband seeking to satisfy his wife, the wife seeking to satisfy her husband. Marriage is not a place to “stand up for your rights.” Marriage is a decision to serve the other, whether in bed or out. Abstaining from sex is permissible for a period of time if you both agree to it, and if it’s for the purposes of prayer and fasting—but only for such times. Then come back together again. Satan has an ingenious way of tempting us when we least expect it. I’m not, understand, commanding these periods of abstinence—only providing my best counsel if you should choose them.
Sometimes I wish everyone were single like me—a simpler life in many ways! But celibacy is not for everyone any more than marriage is. God gives the gift of the single life to some, the gift of the married life to others.
I do, though, tell the unmarried and widows that singleness might well be the best thing for them, as it has been for me. But if they can’t manage their desires and emotions, they should by all means go ahead and get married. The difficulties of marriage are preferable by far to a sexually tortured life as a single.
And if you are married, stay married. This is the Master’s command, not mine. If a wife should leave her husband, she must either remain single or else come back and make things right with him. And a husband has no right to get rid of his wife.
For the rest of you who are in mixed marriages—Christian married to non-Christian—we have no explicit command from the Master. So this is what you must do. If you are a man with a wife who is not a believer but who still wants to live with you, hold on to her. If you are a woman with a husband who is not a believer but he wants to live with you, hold on to him. The unbelieving husband shares to an extent in the holiness of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is likewise touched by the holiness of her husband. Otherwise, your children would be left out; as it is, they also are included in the spiritual purposes of God.
On the other hand, if the unbelieving spouse walks out, you’ve got to let him or her go. You don’t have to hold on desperately. God has called us to make the best of it, as peacefully as we can. You never know, wife: The way you handle this might bring your husband not only back to you but to God. You never know, husband: The way you handle this might bring your wife not only back to you but to God.
And don’t be wishing you were someplace else or with someone else. Where you are right now is God’s place for you. Live and obey and love and believe right there. God, not your marital status, defines your life. Don’t think I’m being harder on you than on the others. I give this same counsel in all the churches.
Were you Jewish at the time God called you? Don’t try to remove the evidence. Were you non-Jewish at the time of your call? Don’t become a Jew. Being Jewish isn’t the point. The really important thing is obeying God’s call, following his commands.
Stay where you were when God called your name. Were you a slave? Slavery is no roadblock to obeying and believing. I don’t mean you’re stuck and can’t leave. If you have a chance at freedom, go ahead and take it. I’m simply trying to point out that under your new Master you’re going to experience a marvelous freedom you would never have dreamed of. On the other hand, if you were free when Christ called you, you’ll experience a delightful “enslavement to God” you would never have dreamed of.
All of you, slave and free both, were once held hostage in a sinful society. Then a huge sum was paid out for your ransom. So please don’t, out of old habit, slip back into being or doing what everyone else tells you. Friends, stay where you were called to be. God is there. Hold the high ground with him at your side.
The Master did not give explicit direction regarding virgins, but as one much experienced in the mercy of the Master and loyal to him all the way, you can trust my counsel. Because of the current pressures on us from all sides, I think it would probably be best to stay just as you are. Are you married? Stay married. Are you unmarried? Don’t get married. But there’s certainly no sin in getting married, whether you’re a virgin or not. All I am saying is that when you marry, you take on additional stress in an already stressful time, and I want to spare you if possible.
I do want to point out, friends, that time is of the essence. There is no time to waste, so don’t complicate your lives unnecessarily. Keep it simple—in marriage, grief, joy, whatever. Even in ordinary things—your daily routines of shopping, and so on. Deal as sparingly as possible with the things the world thrusts on you. This world as you see it is fading away.
I want you to live as free of complications as possible. When you’re unmarried, you’re free to concentrate on simply pleasing the Master. Marriage involves you in all the nuts and bolts of domestic life and in wanting to please your spouse, leading to so many more demands on your attention. The time and energy that married people spend on caring for and nurturing each other, the unmarried can spend in becoming whole and holy instruments of God. I’m trying to be helpful and make it as easy as possible for you, not make things harder. All I want is for you to be able to develop a way of life in which you can spend plenty of time together with the Master without a lot of distractions.
If a man has a woman friend to whom he is loyal but never intended to marry, having decided to serve God as a “single,” and then changes his mind, deciding he should marry her, he should go ahead and marry. It’s no sin; it’s not even a “step down” from celibacy, as some say. On the other hand, if a man is comfortable in his decision for a single life in service to God and it’s entirely his own conviction and not imposed on him by others, he ought to stick with it. Marriage is spiritually and morally right and not inferior to singleness in any way, although as I indicated earlier, because of the times we live in, I do have pastoral reasons for encouraging singleness.
A wife must stay with her husband as long as he lives. If he dies, she is free to marry anyone she chooses. She will, of course, want to marry a believer and have the blessing of the Master. By now you know that I think she’ll be better off staying single. The Master, in my opinion, thinks so, too.
The Letter of 1st Corinthians, Chapter 7 (The Message)
Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 42nd chapter of the book (scroll) of Isaiah where the Son coming to earth is revealed before it ever came to be:
“Take a good look at my servant!
I love him dearly, for he is my chosen one.
I have taken hold of him in my strength,
and I have clothed him with my Spirit.
He will cause justice to spring up for the nations.
He will be gentle and will not quarrel with others in public.
He will not exalt his own voice.
He would never crush a broken heart
nor disregard the weak and vulnerable.
He will make sure justice comes to those who are wronged.
His inner being will not become faint or discouraged,
nor will his light grow dim before he establishes justice on the earth.
Even the distant lands beyond the seas
will hunger for his instruction.”
Here are the words of the true God, Yahweh,
the one who created the starry heavens and stretched them out.
He is the one who formed the earth and filled it with life.
He gives breath to every person
and spirit to everyone everywhere.
“I, Yahweh, have commissioned you in righteousness to succeed.
I will take your hand in love and watch over you.
I will give you as a covenanth for the people,
a walking-light to the nations.
Your mission is to open blind eyes,
to set prisoners free from dark dwellings,
and to open prison doors to those who are held by darkness.
I am Yahweh; that is my name.
I will not give my glory to another god
nor my renown to idols.
Don’t you see that what I have prophesied has come to pass?
And now I am foretelling the future.
I declare it to you before it sprouts up.”
Sing to Yahweh a brand-new song!
Sing his praise until it echoes from the ends of the earth!
Sailors and sea creatures, praise him!
Islands and all their inhabitants, sing his praise!
Let the desert and its villages lift their voices in praise!
Let the tent villages of Kedar shout their praises!
Let the residents of Sela’s cliffs shout with glee,

During Tishah B’Av we studied the grave matter of God’s judgment for our sins. We read the prophet Jeremiah and grieve over the destruction of the Temple. We weep over the lost vision of Zion - and of the exile of the Jewish people. This is a somber time of national mourning for Israel...
But there is always hope, even in our darkest hour.... The Sabbath immediately following Tishah B’Av is called Shabbat Nachamu (שבת נחמו ), “the Sabbath of Comfort,” because we take time to remember Israel’s prophetic future. The Haftarah therefore begins: Nachamu, nachamu ammi (נַחֲמוּ נַחֲמוּ עַמִּי) “Comfort, O comfort, my people, says your God” (Isa. 40:1). And because the study of Torah brings comfort and joy to our hearts, the sages chose parashat Vaetchanan to be read at this time to emphasize our duty to learn Torah (תַּלְמוּד תּוֹרָה) and to rejoice in the revelation of God, as it says: "The precepts (פִּקּוּד) of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the mitzvah of the LORD is pure, bringing light (אוֹר) to the eyes" (Psalm 19:8).
The Torah portion begins with Moses’ plea to the LORD to be allowed entry into the Promised Land, despite God’s earlier decree (Num. 20:8-12; 27:12-14). Note that in Jewish tradition, the idea of appealing to God’s grace is not without expending personal effort. The gematria of vaetchanan is 515 -- the same as the word for prayer (i.e., tefillah, תְּפִלָּה) -- which suggests (according to some of the sages) that Moses offered tachanunim (supplications) no less than 515 times to be allowed into the Promised Land. Despite his repeated appeals, however, God finally said to Moses: רַב־לָך, “enough from you” (Deut. 3:26) and reaffirmed His decree that he would not be allowed to lead Israel into the land. That privilege was given to Yehoshua bin Nun (יְהוֹשֻׁ��ַ בִּן־נוּן), i.e., “Joshua the son of Nun,” who was clearly a picture of the Messiah.
Moses was forbidden into the land because symbolically the covenant made at Sinai was insufficient to fulfill the promise of God. This insufficiency, however, was not the fault of God’s Torah, which is “holy, just, and good” (Rom. 7:12), but rather because of the weakness of the human condition (i.e., the law of sin and death). "For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit" (Rom. 8:3-4). The New Covenant was needed to bring people to Zion, and this required a “change in the Torah” and a new priesthood (Heb. 7:12). “The former commandment was set aside because of its weakness and uselessness - for the law made nothing perfect - but a better hope is introduced, and that is how we draw near to God” (Heb. 7:18-19).
The sages refer to the principle: ma'aseh avot siman labanim (מַעֲשֵׂה אֲבוֹת סִימָן לַבָּנִים): "The deeds of the fathers are signs for the children." The entire Exodus story amounted to a sort of parable: “As below, so above” (and conversely). In Jewish midrash, the rock is called the “well of Miriam” because the water was said to have run dry upon her death. But this is simply a midrash, and we know from the New Testament that both the manna (i.e., lechem ha-chayim: לֶחֶם הַחַיִּים) and the living water (i.e., mayim ha-chayim: מַיִם הַחַיִּים) both represented the Presence of Yeshua (John 6:35; 7:38). “Our fathers ... passed through the sea and ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was the Messiah” (1 Cor. 10:1-4). This Rock was not given to Israel in the merit of Miriam, but rather foreshadowed the sustenance of life given through the One who would be stricken for His people (Isa. 53:4 and 1 Cor. 10:4). The Torah states that Moses’ sin that led to his exile was that he “struck the rock twice” (Chukat), and this implied that the Savior of Israel would need to be stricken a second time to give life to the people. No! The Rock that was once smitten for the people was now to be spoken to as the “Living Rock” (Num. 20:8, 1 Cor. 10:4).
Even in the face of exile, we know that God’s correction and judgment is not the last word for those who turn to Him in trust (Lam. 3:22-23). In the end, the Jewish people will be saved (Rom. 11:26), just as Moses was indeed later admitted to the Promised Land where he met with Yeshua on the Mount of Transfiguration (Matt. 17:1-5). The LORD is faithful and true, and He will never break His promise to the children of Israel... [Hebrew for Christians]

The Delightful Law
“For I delight in the law of God after the inward man.” (Romans 7:22)
To many people, the law of God is harsh and cruel, consisting of an unreasonable list of “thou shalt nots.” But Scripture teaches that “the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good” (Romans 7:12). The “old man”—that is, the natural man—“is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts” (Ephesians 4:22), and therefore it is written, “Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them” (Galatians 3:10).
No natural man could ever truthfully say, “I delight in the law of God,” and in our modern world it is even probable that most people have broken at least most of God’s Ten Commandments and often delight in doing so. But the “old man” becomes a “new man” when he accepts Christ as his Savior, for “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made [the] curse for us” (Galatians 3:13). Thus, the “inward man” can thenceforth “delight in the law of God,” as our text says. Not to earn salvation (which we could never do) but because we love to live for Him who died for us.
God’s law (and we can understand this now to include even the entire Word of God) indeed becomes our delight. We can say with the psalmist, “Thy law is my delight” (Psalm 119:77). Every one redeemed of the Lord should now find that “his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night” (Psalm 1:2).
The old covenant said, in effect, we must keep the law to live. But now, “this is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them” (Hebrews 10:16). No longer are the commandments written “in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart” (2 Corinthians 3:3), and we delight in them. HMM

sex is pure.
when shared in the right context. by the Creator of the body it is meant for the marital bond in becoming as “One” body.
and we see this spiritual truth in Love from Today’s reading of the Letter of First Corinthians that Paul wrote nearly 2,000 years ago to illuminate and conserve words inspired by the Spirit within:
[To Be Married, to Be Single . . .]
Now, getting down to the questions you asked in your letter to me. First, Is it a good thing to have sexual relations?
Certainly—but only within a certain context. It’s good for a man to have a wife, and for a woman to have a husband. Sexual drives are strong, but marriage is strong enough to contain them and provide for a balanced and fulfilling sexual life in a world of sexual disorder. The marriage bed must be a place of mutuality—the husband seeking to satisfy his wife, the wife seeking to satisfy her husband. Marriage is not a place to “stand up for your rights.” Marriage is a decision to serve the other, whether in bed or out. Abstaining from sex is permissible for a period of time if you both agree to it, and if it’s for the purposes of prayer and fasting—but only for such times. Then come back together again. Satan has an ingenious way of tempting us when we least expect it. I’m not, understand, commanding these periods of abstinence—only providing my best counsel if you should choose them.
Sometimes I wish everyone were single like me—a simpler life in many ways! But celibacy is not for everyone any more than marriage is. God gives the gift of the single life to some, the gift of the married life to others.
I do, though, tell the unmarried and widows that singleness might well be the best thing for them, as it has been for me. But if they can’t manage their desires and emotions, they should by all means go ahead and get married. The difficulties of marriage are preferable by far to a sexually tortured life as a single.
And if you are married, stay married. This is the Master’s command, not mine. If a wife should leave her husband, she must either remain single or else come back and make things right with him. And a husband has no right to get rid of his wife.
For the rest of you who are in mixed marriages—Christian married to non-Christian—we have no explicit command from the Master. So this is what you must do. If you are a man with a wife who is not a believer but who still wants to live with you, hold on to her. If you are a woman with a husband who is not a believer but he wants to live with you, hold on to him. The unbelieving husband shares to an extent in the holiness of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is likewise touched by the holiness of her husband. Otherwise, your children would be left out; as it is, they also are included in the spiritual purposes of God.
On the other hand, if the unbelieving spouse walks out, you’ve got to let him or her go. You don’t have to hold on desperately. God has called us to make the best of it, as peacefully as we can. You never know, wife: The way you handle this might bring your husband not only back to you but to God. You never know, husband: The way you handle this might bring your wife not only back to you but to God.
And don’t be wishing you were someplace else or with someone else. Where you are right now is God’s place for you. Live and obey and love and believe right there. God, not your marital status, defines your life. Don’t think I’m being harder on you than on the others. I give this same counsel in all the churches.
Were you Jewish at the time God called you? Don’t try to remove the evidence. Were you non-Jewish at the time of your call? Don’t become a Jew. Being Jewish isn’t the point. The really important thing is obeying God’s call, following his commands.
Stay where you were when God called your name. Were you a slave? Slavery is no roadblock to obeying and believing. I don’t mean you’re stuck and can’t leave. If you have a chance at freedom, go ahead and take it. I’m simply trying to point out that under your new Master you’re going to experience a marvelous freedom you would never have dreamed of. On the other hand, if you were free when Christ called you, you’ll experience a delightful “enslavement to God” you would never have dreamed of.
All of you, slave and free both, were once held hostage in a sinful society. Then a huge sum was paid out for your ransom. So please don’t, out of old habit, slip back into being or doing what everyone else tells you. Friends, stay where you were called to be. God is there. Hold the high ground with him at your side.
The Master did not give explicit direction regarding virgins, but as one much experienced in the mercy of the Master and loyal to him all the way, you can trust my counsel. Because of the current pressures on us from all sides, I think it would probably be best to stay just as you are. Are you married? Stay married. Are you unmarried? Don’t get married. But there’s certainly no sin in getting married, whether you’re a virgin or not. All I am saying is that when you marry, you take on additional stress in an already stressful time, and I want to spare you if possible.
I do want to point out, friends, that time is of the essence. There is no time to waste, so don’t complicate your lives unnecessarily. Keep it simple—in marriage, grief, joy, whatever. Even in ordinary things—your daily routines of shopping, and so on. Deal as sparingly as possible with the things the world thrusts on you. This world as you see it is on its way out.
I want you to live as free of complications as possible. When you’re unmarried, you’re free to concentrate on simply pleasing the Master. Marriage involves you in all the nuts and bolts of domestic life and in wanting to please your spouse, leading to so many more demands on your attention. The time and energy that married people spend on caring for and nurturing each other, the unmarried can spend in becoming whole and holy instruments of God. I’m trying to be helpful and make it as easy as possible for you, not make things harder. All I want is for you to be able to develop a way of life in which you can spend plenty of time together with the Master without a lot of distractions.
If a man has a woman friend to whom he is loyal but never intended to marry, having decided to serve God as a “single,” and then changes his mind, deciding he should marry her, he should go ahead and marry. It’s no sin; it’s not even a “step down” from celibacy, as some say. On the other hand, if a man is comfortable in his decision for a single life in service to God and it’s entirely his own conviction and not imposed on him by others, he ought to stick with it. Marriage is spiritually and morally right and not inferior to singleness in any way, although as I indicated earlier, because of the times we live in, I do have pastoral reasons for encouraging singleness.
A wife must stay with her husband as long as he lives. If he dies, she is free to marry anyone she chooses. She will, of course, want to marry a believer and have the blessing of the Master. By now you know that I think she’ll be better off staying single. The Master, in my opinion, thinks so, too.

Now to the topics you raised in your last letter. Some have said, “It is better for a man to abstain from having sex with his wife.” Well, I disagree. Husbands and wives have reciprocal duties. Each husband has the responsibility to meet his wife’s sexual desires, and each wife should do the same for her husband. In marriage neither the husband nor the wife should act as if his or her body is private property—your bodies now belong to one another, and together they are whole.

and we see God’s significance of the marital bond in Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments from the book of Genesis with chapter 20 that includes a dream used as a warning:
Abraham traveled from there south to the Negev and settled down between Kadesh and Shur. While he was camping in Gerar, Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She’s my sister.”
So Abimelech, king of Gerar, sent for Sarah and took her. But God came to Abimelech in a dream that night and told him, “You’re as good as dead—that woman you took, she’s a married woman.”
Now Abimelech had not yet slept with her, hadn’t so much as touched her. He said, “Master, would you kill an innocent man? Didn’t he tell me, ‘She’s my sister’? And didn’t she herself say, ‘He’s my brother’? I had no idea I was doing anything wrong when I did this.”
God said to him in the dream, “Yes, I know your intentions were pure, that’s why I kept you from sinning against me; I was the one who kept you from going to bed with her. So now give the man’s wife back to him. He’s a prophet and will pray for you—pray for your life. If you don’t give her back, know that it’s certain death both for you and everyone in your family.”
Abimelech was up first thing in the morning. He called all his house servants together and told them the whole story. They were shocked. Then Abimelech called in Abraham and said, “What have you done to us? What have I ever done to you that you would bring on me and my kingdom this huge offense? What you’ve done to me ought never to have been done.”
Abimelech went on to Abraham, “Whatever were you thinking of when you did this thing?”
Abraham said, “I just assumed that there was no fear of God in this place and that they’d kill me to get my wife. Besides, the truth is that she is my half sister; she’s my father’s daughter but not my mother’s. When God sent me out as a wanderer from my father’s home, I told her, ‘Do me a favor; wherever we go, tell people that I’m your brother.’”
Then Abimelech gave Sarah back to Abraham, and along with her sent sheep and cattle and servants, both male and female. He said, “My land is open to you; live wherever you wish.”
And to Sarah he said, “I’ve given your brother a thousand pieces of silver—that clears you of even a shadow of suspicion before the eyes of the world. You’re vindicated.”
Then Abraham prayed to God and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his maidservants, and they started having babies again. For God had shut down every womb in Abimelech’s household on account of Sarah, Abraham’s wife.

A reflection upon an ancient letter
and the True nature of marriage is seen in Today’s reading of the Scriptures as the kindness of a relationship to be shared amongst those joined Together as “One” in Light and in Love
(God fashioned the sacred and sexual Union of a man and a woman to “fit” Together as “One” body)
also, the nature of being single is reflected upon, which is Okay as well. it’s a personal decision.
