I’m back at it again deep diving into things I have no concept of, and today it’s the world of the UFC!  I like for my first read-through something to be an explanation of sorts so I can try and figure out exactly what is happening, and today I'm diving into the beauty of women champions. 

From my understanding there are four types of championships, there is feather-weight, bantam-weight, fly-weight, and straw-weight.  I’m not gonna lie, half of these to me sound like the same thing with AI generated names.  After doing further research it all depends on the weight of the fighter, which when I was younger used to confuse the hell out of me because I thought it was so rude to segregate people into weight categories, now however I know it’s so you don’t get absolutely murdered. 

Feather-weight(126 pounds) has no current champion, but they do have three past champions.  Amanda Nunes won in 2018 with two defenses and a TKO of 1 over her opponent Cris Cyborg.  I’m not going to sit here and lie to you either if my last name was Cyborg no one could talk to me. That is such badass.  The only knowledge I have of a TKO(Total Knockout) is when executed the fighter is left unable to complete the fight, so that is insanely hardcore to me.  Currently, the brazilian fighter has insane stats ranging from 13-2 TKO, SUB 4-2, and W-L-D 23-5-0.  Now, again I will not lie to you I only know what the TKO is.  

Sub is when a fighter ‘taps out’, yielding to their opponent so that they win.  So, that takes the badass levels down some, but hey who knows this could actually be the lowest for someone and she is the dominant woman to have ever lived.  Then the W-L-D is win, loss, or draw.  The thing that I'm getting at for Nunes is that she doesn’t believe in draws and eats up her opponent every time, 23 wins! Insane! 

Now that I know the terms let's move onto bantamweight, which is the 135 pound limit.  The current champion for this category is Raquel Pennington, with an outcome of a UD over Mayra Bueno Silva.  Now comes my next question, the hell is a UD? This is a term I have heard of and often yell out when I want to look knowledgeable, it means unanimous decision.  This is when all the judges are in agreement of which fighter is the winner, so good for Miss Pennington! 

Pennington’s stats are W-L-D 16-9-0, TKO 1-1, and sub is 1-1, not bad but not my new favorite fighter Amanda Nunes good.

Women’s flyweight is next on our list and their poundage (?) is 125.  I’m going to be honest, with all the searching and rules about the fighters weight is insane to me, what is a one pound difference in the grand scheme of it all you know? Anyway, the current champion of this category is Valentina Shevchenko who won in a unanimous decision against Alexas Grasso! Look at me knowing my terms, this is what we call development guys.   Shevchenko’s stats are W-L-D 24-4-1, TKO 8-1, and Sub 7-1.  I’m gonna be honest, Miss Nunes has my heart, but Schevchenko scares the shit outta me the most. 

The final category is straw-weight and the weight is 115 pounds, again the names just all seem too similar for my taste and I find them very much confusing but non the less I digress.  The current champion is the lady with the best cheekbones I have ever seen Zhang Weili who won against Carla Esparza with a Sub2.  Her stats rival Nunes to me with a W-L-D 25-3-0, TKO 11-1, and Sub 8-0.  She is a Chinese fighter whose career I feel I will be following closely. 

After all that research I can confirm that this is the most intriguing of the sports I have covered so far, and I simply cannot wait to learn more about it.

Chapter 5 the underdog first fight

Older Izuku pov

*Ah the first fight i remember it well i walked up to be next to the rat he was so close to me i could kill him before yujiro could kill me but i hold off as nezu starts telling people my old stats*

Nezu:Izuku midoriya the traitor of U.A. sentence to life in prison for his actions against U.A.

Izuku:I.WAS.FRAMED!!

*I yelled at him my faces inches from his i could feel the metal of a barrel at the back of my head as i took a step back so did the guards nezu continued like nothing happened*

Nezu:with a height of 5'5

Izuku"wrong it's 5'8 now"

Nezu:with a weight of 115 pounds

Izuku"add another 85 pounds do that rat"

Nezu:his ability...none he is completely quirkless like i said this match is gonna be one sided and i have to say i will enjoy ever minute of it

*Nezu walked off and the guards escorted us to the arena I glanced one more time to momo and I saw her looking at me her eyes she looked hurt and conflicted i simply sneered at her and scoffed before following the guard*

Meanwhile with mama inko few minutes before

3rd person

*We see her with Mitsuki and Masaru inko was having tea with Masaru whole Mitsuki was just scrolling through channels*

Masaru:so inko how are things with you're son

Inko:i wished I knew he hasn't come to visit in over 2 years now and whenever i try to call or visit I'm rejected i don't know what i could have done to upset my son so much..

Masaru:he is 16 he's probably just going through a phase

Inko:not my Izuku something is wrong but no one will tell me anything you're a lawyer can't you do anything to help me?

Masaru:without prove that something is wrong I'm sorry n..

Mitsuki:HOLY SHIT!!!!

*Both of them ran to Mitsuki to see why she was screaming what they saw shocked them*

TV Nezu:Izuku midoriya the traitor of U.A. sentence to life in prison for his actions against U.A.

*The 3 adults where shocked thinking this has to be some kind of sick joke*

Mitsuki:that's bullshit my nephew would never do that!!

Inko:i..izuku..h..he was in jail..

*Inko was having a panic attack thinking such negative things about herself Mimbling how she must have been a horrible mother until Mitsuki slapped her had to bring her back to reality*

TV Izuku:I.WAS.FRAMED

Mitsuki:don't you ever say that! You we're the best mother Anyone could ask for you heard him he was framed he knows it, I know it Masaru knows it and you sure as hell knows it!!

Inko:y..yes yes..y..you're right it's just..

*Inko starts to cry Mitsuki hugs her and glares at her husband*

Mitsuki:why are you just standing there Mr lawyer go to the computer and book us tickets we are going to see him and you are gonna free him!!

Masaru:y..yes right of course!!

*Masaru left running for his home office as inko and Mitsuki sat down with nothing left to do but keep watching*

Inko:izuku...

Back with izuku

3rd person

*We see him in his cel 5 minutes to the fight as stain was helping him cover his arms with bandages to hide his now burned arms*

Stain:remember don't get hit

Izuku:i know

Stain:he's heavier so use you're speed to you're advantage

Izuku:i know

Stain:this isn't the outside world this is a fight to the death you fight dirty worry about honor later focus on staying alive now you understand me?

*Izuku just nods as they finish the guards come and take izuku to the arena they let izuku walked alone once they made it to the hall and izuku did he walked he could hear the audience cheers becoming louder with each step until he was blinded for a second by the bright lights and everyone saw him*

Announcer: ladies and gentlemen izukuuuuuuuuu midoriyaaaaaaaaa!!!

*Some cheered some booed izuku ignored that and concentrated on his opponent ikko Kobayashi who was just drinking alcohol not taking this seriously as izuku walked to the ring and stopped in front of ikko*

Referee:alright are the combatants ready?

*Not just nods not taking there eyes off each other*

Referee:and start!!

*The referee jumped out of the way ikko let the bottle drop breaking it izuku glanced at the ground and ikko threw the first punch*

*Izuku dodged it grunting his legs starting to feel pain already izuku as always ignored it and continued to dodge punch after punch*

Announcer:the fight just started and ikko already has midoriya on the ropes!

*Izuku jumped out the way as ikko slammed his feet on the broken bottle breaking it more and kicking the glass at izuku*

Izuku"a distraction..

*Izuku covered his face with one arm but one shard escaped him and cut his cheek*

Izuku"his true intent.."

*Izuku dodged as ikko slammed his fist creating a small crater at the ground*

Ikko:this is pathetic are you just gonna keep dodge...

*Ikko stopped talking as izuku punched him square in the face so hard izuku broke ikko's nose and made his face flat making ikko stumble back*

*Ikko touched his face and looked at his now bloody hand his hand starts to tremble*

Ikko:blood..this..this is my blood..

Izuku:you still think I'm..

Ikko:blood...blood...BLOOOOOD!!!!

Izuku:what the...

*Ikko disappeared and reapered next to izuku, izuku eyes widen as he blocked in time but screamed as he felt his bone get a fracture*

Announcer:oh it's all over folks izuku unintentionally activated ikko's quirk now nothing can stop him!!

*Izuku got some distance holding his arm in pain looking at ikko laughing like a maniac*

Izuku:this is gonna be harder then I thought..

Killian had always seen Emma as David Nolan’s little sister.  He remembered her as an adolescent as a tall, gangly girl with boundless fire and energy.  He’d been fond of her in a best-mate’s-little-sister kind of way, but given the disparity in their ages, it had never gone beyond that.

Never, that is, until her return home from university the summer after her freshman year. He knew he’d never forget the moment he saw her that June morning.  She’d bounded down the Nolan staircase in a pair of tiny jean shorts and a strappy tank top, her long, blonde hair pulled up in a high ponytail on her head.  Somehow, between going off to college in the fall and returning home in the summer, Emma Nolan had become a woman.

A gorgeous and vibrant woman.

Killian’s heart pounded and his mouth went dry as he watched her walk up to her brother and give him a kiss on the cheek.

“Ruby and I are headed to the store,” she said, “anything you guys want?”

“Nothing for me,” David had said, “how about you, Killian?”

Both David and Emma turned expectant gazes toward him, and he realized vaguely that they were waiting for an answer from him, but as gobsmacked as he felt, he was having difficulty remembering his own name, let alone an answer to their question.  After a moment, he swallowed hard, shook his head to clear it and croaked out a simple “No.”

The answer seemed to satisfy them, and a moment later, Emma was out the door.  For a moment Killian continued to stare after are, his mouth agape, but finally he turned back to find his best mate eyeing him with suspicion.

“Do I need to ask you about your intentions with my sister?” David asked in a tight voice.

Killian felt his face flush, and he attempted to laugh it off.  “Of course not,” he said in a tone that sounded false even to his own ears.  “She’s your sister.  What intentions would I have?”

“Given your history with women,” David said, “I figure it wouldn’t hurt to remind you that we’re going to have a problem if you treat my sister as your next conquest.”

That stung, and Killian felt his anger build.  Aye, he was popular with the ladies; there was no point in denying that, but he’d never treated a woman with anything less than respect.

“I assure you, mate,” Killian said in a clipped voice, “Emma is no conquest.  If anything were to ever happen between us it would be her choice as much as mine.”

David kept up the suspicious look for another moment, and then gave a quick nod of acknowledgement.  “Good.  Just see that that’s the case, because best friend or not, if you hurt my sister, I’ll make you regret it.”

“I wouldn’t want or expect any less.”

Killian had diligently tried to forget the new, burgeoning feelings he was having for Emma by dating a wide variety of women, the most serious of which was Milah, of course, but that morning in the Nolan kitchen had fundamentally transformed something within him.

Once he saw Emma as a beautiful, desirable woman, there was no going back for him.

Which made the incident on the day of her graduation both the best and the worst moment of his life.  He knew it was probably dangerous to be alone with her, after all, his feelings had only grown, and she’d, to this point, shown no indication that she shared them, but when she came to him, eyes sparkling with joy and pride, how could he do less than let her into his home and celebrate with her?

The kiss had come as quite the surprise.  He’d sat in shocked silence for a heartbeat as her lips touched his, but then it was as though the powder keg within him had been ignited, and the next thing he knew, he was kissing her with the kind of wild abandon he’d only dreamed of.  

It was only when she climbed into his lap and reached for the buttons of his shirt that he came back to his senses.

What was he doing?  They’d both been drinking.  It was beyond bad form to take advantage of her in an impared, vulnerable state.  This would certainly qualify as breaking his promise to David, not to mention his promise to himself to always remain a man of honor.

And so, though it had taken every ounce of willpower he had, he’d gently moved her away from him and suggested they slow things down.

His actions had wounded her; he could see that clearly, but he knew he was doing what was right.  In the clear light of day, she’d thank him for stopping them from doing something she’d have very much regretted.

When she didn’t return to his cabin the next day before her departure, he knew he’d done the right thing.  Clearly she regretted her impulsive kiss and was embarrassed to face him.

The thought stung more than just his male ego.  Somehow Emma had become more to him than simply a gorgeous woman he wished to have a dalliance with.  He cared for her, perhaps was even coming to love her.  It hurt that she so clearly did not feel the same way.

That had been the last time he saw Emma, and he hated it, hated that he’d somehow completely destroyed not only any chance of a relationship they might have had in the future, but also the easy friendship they’d had in the past.

And so it was that he was both surprised and gratified when she showed up on his doorstep this evening.

Killian rifled through his drawers, looking for clothing that would more or less fit her.  He settled on a pair of sweats and a long sleeved tee.  

“These should suffice for the night,” He said, stepping back into the main room of his cabin.

Emma got to her feet and stepped toward him, grimacing as she stepped onto her right foot, and began to limp in his direction.

“Swan!  You’re hurt,” He said, rushing toward her, dropping the clothing onto the couch and taking hold of her arms to steady her.

She shrugged him off.  “I’m fine, Killian,” she said.  “Just a little sprain.  Just one more fantastic thing to add to this fantastic night.”

Killian, not to be deterred, steered her back to the couch and then crouched before her, gently pulling the boot from her injured foot and prodding at the swollen ankle.  “Nonsense, love,” he said, frowning at the quick hiss of pain she couldn’t contain. “Let me help you.”

He pulled the soaked sock from her foot, noting how icy cold her extremities were.  He needed to get her warm and quickly.

He ignored the suggestions his less-than-noble brain made about ways to warm her up that could be quite enjoyable for both.

“Get out of these clothes,” he said.  “The sooner you’re warmed up the better.”

“Still trying to get me naked?” she asked with a derisive look.

Swan, you have no idea.

“Merely trying to be the hospitable host,” he tossed back.  “It would be rather bad form to let my guest suffer frostbite while under my roof.  Although, if naked activities are what you’re after, who am I to deny you?”

He couldn’t resist tossing in that last bit, complete with an outrageous wagging of his eyebrows and a teasing grin.

She barked a laugh at that, and it surprised him how much her reaction warmed him.  Even if nothing else could come of it, he wished for their friendship back.

“Why don’t you go do something,” she said, turning to grab the clothes he’d brought her.  “I’d rather change without an audience.”

He sketched a perfect bow.  “As the lady wishes.”

Her chuckle followed him as he turned toward his kitchen, putting a kettle on to boil before reaching for his first aid kit.  He waited several minutes, making them mugs of hot cocoa, topping hers with cinnamon as he remembered she liked, and cleaning up before returning to the living room.

“Are you decent, Swan?” he asked as he stepped into the room.

“That’s debatable,” she said, and he loved the teasing that had crept into her voice, “but yeah.  I’m clothed.”

“Pity,” he said, setting their drinks on the coffee table and then turning his attention to her ankle.

“How could I forget how much of a flirt you are?” she asked, as he gently began taping her ankle.

“Shameless flirt, I may be,”  he said, “but my nonsense brought a smile to your face and, dare I hope, brought the smallest glimmer of light to a very bad day.”

She glanced aside then, looking abashed.  “Look, Killian,” she said, “I’m sorry for being all bitchy.  I really am grateful for you letting me stay here and, you know, taking care of me and stuff.”

He waved off her apology.  “No worries, love,” he said.  “I’d do no less for my best mate’s sister, and a woman I’d hoped was my friend.”

If anything, his words seemed to make her feel even worse.  She finally looked at him, and the raw emotion in her eyes stole his breath.  “Yeah, I’m sorry about that too,” she said.  “Sorry about, you know, that night.  Afterwards...I don’t know.  I just couldn’t face you again.  It was too humiliating.”

Had it really been so terrible to kiss him that the thought of seeing him afterwards was humiliating still seven years later?

Talk about a crush of the ego!

“Please, don’t apologize,” he said after a moment.  “I knew you were under the influence of your excitement about the day's events and my rum.  I knew you didn’t really mean that kiss, and I wished to save you the regret any further...activities...on our part would cause.”

Killian hoped his statement might ease her burden, but to his chagrin, instead of relief, she showed only a deep abiding sadness.

“Didn’t mean it, yeah,” she said with a bitter chuckle.

That was curious. Was it possible he’d been wrong about what happened all those years ago?

“Swan?” he asked, reaching out to turn her face toward him.  “That was it, wasn’t it?  The reason you left so suddenly?  The reason you’ve kept your distance since?  You regretted the kiss and felt embarrassment about what we’d almost done.”

She just looked at him for a long moment, and then she began to cry.  “What the hell?” she said finally, shaking her head through the tears.  “Everything else that could go wrong has already gone wrong today.  Why not just put everything out into the open and cap the night off with some rejection?”

He frowned at her statement, which seemed to be more directed at herself than at him.  “I’m sorry, I don’t follow…”

“No, Killian,” she finally said, “that wasn’t the reason I left so quick that night.  I left so quick because I’d been in love with you ever since I was old enough to understand what the word meant.  A part of me probably always will be.  I kissed you because, yes, the rum lowered my inhibitions a little, but really?  It was because I’d wanted to kiss you for years.  I’d been dying to see you look at me as more than just your best friend’s sister.  But then you turned me down, and I knew I’d made a fool of myself and…” she shrugged, “well you know the rest.”

For a long moment he sat still, barely daring to hope.  Finally the full import of what she’d said washed over him.  Emma Swan had just confessed to loving him!

Silver-tongued as he usually was, he couldn’t have said a word if his life depended on it.  Instead, he did what he’d been wanting to do every single day for the past seven years.  He surged forward and captured her lips with his own.  This kiss was long and slow, at times gentle, at times so passionate it was a wonder his sofa wasn’t engulfed in flames.  He felt it then in the way she kissed him back, in the way she clung to him, cupping the back of his head and running her fingers through his hair, in the satisfied sounds she made that were slowly driving him to distraction.

He’d not only been wrong back then, he’d been tragically wrong.  She did care for him; every bit as much as he cared for her.

Finally, after long moments, he pulled back again and looked into her wrecked, passion-glazed eyes.

“Killian, if you reject me again, I may literally die of embarrassment this time,” she said breathlessly.

He chuckled, pulling her into his arms and giving her a smacking kiss before holding her to him.  “Rejecting you is quite possibly the last thing on my mind right now.”

She sighed in contentment.

“Swan?” he said after a moment, loving the way her hand covered his heart, loving the clean, slightly spicy scent of her hair against his nose.  “Just to set the record straight, rejecting you was quite possibly the last thing on my mind back then as well.”

She sat up quickly then, frowning down at him in confusion.  “But--?”

He chuckled again, shaking his head at himself, at the both of them all those years ago.  “Swan if I’d believed you truly wanted me back then, believe me, that night would have had a far, far different ending.”

“You...you didn’t think I wanted you?”

He shook his head.  “I’d begun to have feelings for you long before that night, but I’d believed you saw me as nothing but your brother’s friend.  I thought that kiss was nothing but the influence of a bit too much rum.”

She looked at him for a moment, and then began laughing, falling back against his chest as her shoulders shaked with her laughter.  “Gods we were such idiots,” she said finally.

He began laughing with her, before capturing her lips in another long, searing kiss.  “Aye, that we were.  The question is, what are we going to do about it?”

She gave him a smile, the brightness of which rivaled the sun.  “I’d say we start over.  Take things slow and see just where this thing might take us.”

Joy blossomed within him with the brilliance of springtime despite the winter storm raging outside.  “That is a suggestion with which I heartily concur.”

 Notes:

--Eeek!  It’s been so much longer than I wanted for this update!  After a very productive February, the muse has apparently decided to take most of March off.  I did want to finish this story, which is about a winter storm, before we’re too far into spring though.

--Up next:  NO PROMISES, but I have a potential idea for next week that is Easter themed.  It involves Emma and Killian as single parents, a pink bunny suit (a la A Christmas Story), a badly-ended blind date and a scheming Mary Margaret.  We’ll see if the muse decides to cooperate.

I’ve never made a long ass post about something on here before, but in celebration of my one year on testosterone, I thought I would. So, in other words, I want to bother you with my story. :D

I’ll start by introducing myself and giving a brief about me. My name’s Sam Skylar Lopez, but the name I was given at birth was Samantha Lopez. My whole family supports me, so they no longer call me Samantha. Well, they never really called me Samantha, I’ve had the nickname “Sam” since I was little. But at times they do, whenever they’ve been calling me and I don’t hear them and get mad. I, personally, don’t mind being called Samantha or “she/her,” it’s still my legal name and gender, and I understand, when it comes to family and close friends, it’s a bit hard to transition to “he/him” because it’s a habit they’ve grown to have, but they’re always trying to refer to me as man. My mom, most of the time now, calls me her son. She’s growing used to referring to me as a man. Anyway, I’m an artist, a writer, a geek, cosplayer, and a big fan of Resident Evil. I’ll be 22 years old on the 22nd of June. I have another nickname that I’m known as among my friends and family - don’t quite remember how it began, but it’s “Butler.”

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always viewed myself as a boy. To this day, I recall my eureka moment; the moment I truly realized I wasn’t a little girl. I was five years old and at school. They lined us up, one line formed by girls, another by boys, to demonstrate which sign we had to look for when wanting to use a restroom. I was, obviously, placed with the girls. I remember my eyes traveled over to the line of the boys, wanting to be over with them because I was not a girl. Fast-forward seven years later, to the age of twelve. This was when I began puberty. My breasts began to grow and I had my, as I call it, lady days (periods). When these things began to occur, I was disappointed. At one point, I decided to attempt in accepting myself as a girl. My friends placed makeup on my face and toss a dress on me. I saw myself in the mirror and wanted to cry. I felt awful. I washed it all off before I went home, removed the dress as faster than I thought I could undress and threw my “boy” clothes back on. Nowadays, I do wear dresses and heels, but I do it for the lols because I’ve gotten so hairy, it looks funny on me. Throughout middle and some high school, I didn’t know why I didn’t want to be there until I dropped out when I about fifteen. Not only was I anxious to be around crowds (I have bad anxiety), but it also had to do with the fact I was walking around in woman’s body. Every time I was on my lady days, it made me feel a lot more awful showing myself to the world. I was suffering with depression, I wanted to kill myself. I simply didn’t see a point in living if I would forever be in discomfort. Around the age of seventeen, I finally told everyone in my family I wanted to be a man in hopes of relieving myself of some weight (which it did). I was kind of hoping for more of a surprised experience. I mean like, “Oh, wow, Sam, really?!” “How long??” “Who would of thought?” but I received something more like, “Yeah, we knew longer than you did.” “We knew already.” Which is pretty fucking awesome. I told them, then at the age of eighteen, going on nineteen, I began to write a story (which I’m still working on; just fixing it up now) and it helped me feel a lot more better. I had a little world I would disappear into whenever I felt down.

At first, I had come out as lesbian at the age of fifteen, going on sixteen, because I had no idea what was “transgender.” I wasn’t familiar with anything involving the LGBT community until I came out and did more research. The only reason why I came out then was because I was with a woman I loved down to the marrow of her bones. We lasted four years, but it was a great four years. I wanted everyone to know who I was with. When I did come out as transgender was because my oldest brother came into the room with his girlfriend’s computer, showing my mom and I a YouTube video of a FTM dude and how different he looked over the years. That was when I knew exactly what I was. I identify as a straight male now that I understand myself better.

Back in late 2015, I got a new doctor. I had to go for a physical. We introduced each other (first time meeting) and I told her I wanted to transition to a man, and told me that they assist with that there. My face lit up to a whole new bright. She and I plotted together, making an agreement: if I take my antidepressants, asked my psychiatrist if she believed I was ready for it, gained weight (I was merely 92 pounds at the time), she would allow for me to begin. On February 12, 2016, we met up again, told her my psychiatrist said I was all set to begin, I was taking my pills daily from the day my doctor and I spoke, and I fired up to 112 pounds within the months. I’m about 5′4″, so I merely have to weight about 115-120. My doctor and I spoke a little longer, ensuring I had no regrets, then she sent me over to the nurses where they gave me my first injection.

From that day on, I’ve been nothing but blissful. I’ve achieved many things I’ve never had. I speak a little more than I used to because I’m comfortable with my voice, but I’m still a shy little shit. It’s just my personality. I went back to school. I’m currently trying to get my GED - well, it’s called the HiSET. It’s the same thing, though. I laugh more, I’m not as angry as I was before, I haven’t felt depressed, I no longer have suicidal thoughts. I honestly feel like a completely different person. A better person. People around me have noticed this. The week before I received my first injection, I was at my dad’s house, then I went again for my birthday because, you know, I was turning 21 and my dad wanted to take me to the casinos to play. He lives in Las Vegas. My step-mom was blunt with me. She told me I seemed a lot more lively than I did before my injection. She was as happy for me as my mom.

I just want to say: I hope every transgender person experience this. I hope, parents who are wondering what to do to help their trans child, read this and get an idea. It’s actually quite simple what must be done! I hope people, who are accepting, understand that this truly does make a difference and could save many lives.

New on Sports Illustrated: UFC Fight Night: Jessica Eye vs. Cynthia Calvillo - MMA Betting & DFS Preview

A women's flyweight bout between Jessica Eye and Cynthia Calvillo highlight this UFC Fight Night main card. MMA expert Casey Olson runs down the best bets & DFS plays.

In just a couple more weeks, we head to the much anticipated “Fight Island,” where the UFC will host four events live from Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The cards are already being announced, one of which includes UFC 251, which will feature not one, not two, but three title fights just on this one card alone.

Before we get too excited about the marathon on deck, we have fights to watch live from the UFC APEX in Las Vegas Saturday night! In the main event, No. 10 Cynthia Calvillo (8-1-1) will move up a weight class and take on former title challenger, and No. 1 ranked flyweight Jessica Eye (15-7). This is a match that experienced some scrutiny by being billed as a main event. Expect the ladies to bring some excitement though, as Eye looks for back-to-back wins in the octagon, but to do so, she must fend off the prospect Calvillo, who, as mentioned, will move up to the flyweight division for the first time in her pro career.

Small cage again, and you know what that means! Tons of action, along with the probability of more finishes than the norm.

The card gets underway at 6 pm ET and is scheduled for 11 matches in total, which will air live on ESPN/ESPN+ for the entire card.

Eye vs. Calvillo

Jessica Eye looks to continue the momentum as she welcomes Cynthia Calvillo to the women’s flyweight division Saturday night.

When it comes to Jessica Eye, unfortunately, the first thing that comes to mind for many is her wearing a bulletproof vest at faceoffs, only to be slept by Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko the next evening. Eye had been on a three-fight win streak until that nasty head kick put the breaks on her run. She followed up the loss with a decisive victory over Viviane Araujo last December, and will now look to make it two in a row against the prospect Cynthia Calvillo. Calvillo, who’s had some inconsistency making weight at 115, moves up to flyweight to take on the former title contender in the night’s main event. Oddsmakers have the match up almost a pick-em, and in my opinion rightfully so. I believe eliminating the tough cut to 115 will only help the crafty Calvillo. This test will validate if she can be a contender in the division moving forward, or if she should re-evaluate a move back to 115. 

Eye has faced more notable names (Tate, Correia, Kaufmann, McMann, Shevchenko) and has the experience in the main event spot, coupled with the size advantage. That said, on the feet, the two fighters will be both very active trading shots, with Eye the more technical, which will eventually cause Calvillo to look for the takedowns. This will be an advantage for Calvillo, and a chance to lock in a submission attempt or two if she can weather the size disparity. Eye weighed in at 126.25, just a ¼ pound over the limit, yet vocalized that she was done cutting and didn’t even think she could stand. With a fresh Calvillo at this new weight class, and her ability to display some of her craftiness on the mat and five rounds to work, I’ll take a shot with the smaller fighter moving up, in what would be the biggest win of her career.

PREDICTION: CYNTHIA CALVILLO -110

Other Wagers to Consider

Marvin Vettori has been chomping at the bit for this match up. This matchup has already been canceled twice in the past, once due to the pandemic, and then most recently in May, as Roberson fell ill after the weight cut. Friday morning, Vettori was the first fighter on the scale, ready to go, and just 10 minutes into the weigh-ins, Roberson came out to weigh in 4.5 lbs over the limit. An obvious tell that Roberson wouldn’t be cutting weight utilizing the weigh-in window. Expect Vettori to be even more heated than he already was back in May, when the two almost came to blows in the hotel lobby, after Roberson withdrew. As long as Vettori can keep his emotions in check, he should cruise.

PREDICTION: MARVIN VETTORI -200

Loser leaves town match? The loser could be seeing a pink slip after this one. Espinosa is the much better athlete and will have the wrestling advantage, along with power on the feet. As long as he can avoid the submissions, Espinosa should be able to take at least two of the three rounds and get back on track.

Queen Victoria’s interest in my forefathers contributed to our admiration in England. Today, we’re dignified, noble and mostly noiseless. We’re confident, capable and loyal to our owners, but rather skeptical about the outside world. I view newcomers approaching my home with skepticism, but I don’t typically bark at any little leaf blowing by the house.

5. Newfoundland

Ever try swimming and talking at the same time? Now you know why I’m not typically vocal while I swim! Developed to work with fisherman in ice-cold waters, I’m celebrated for my courage, amiable nature and swimming strength in the water. My feet are even webbed and my coat is water resistant. We’re normally better lifeguards than house guards; we may rush to a water rescue, but we’re more likely to welcome strangers into the house than chase them off. Now for a caveat: If we do bark, it’s going to be loud. We boys weigh about 140 pounds; the ladies about 115 pounds. We don’t bark often, but when we do, you’ll surely hear us!
