played a half life mod series called timeline where you're trying to stop nazis from altering the flow of time. g-man teams up with hitler, it's a wild time, whole thing goes crazy
there's a bit where you get sent to a pocket outside of space-time, and jumping in a portal takes you to a random unwinnable scenario in history, one of which is
#half life#what's wild is the first two parts of this mod came out before return to castle wolfenstein

BATBOYS AS ROMANTIC MOVIE LEADS.
note : so basically the batboys and what romance movie / love interest character they would are !!!!
BRUCE WAYNE as...
CAPTAIN VON TRAPP ( the sound of music )
no i'm being so fr when i first watched this a few months ago i was so contemplating writing a fic or series of this exact scenario,, like reader is a nanny or something for bruce wayne's kids and they fall in love
take away nazi germany and it's LITERALLY a bruce wayne love story
him and his many kids
he would be slow to warm up at first, because at that time i imagine him to be very robert pattinson, very emo very lonely, very lego batman as in falsely independent
but then he realises he's in love with the person right in front of him, whom his kids adore, and he would do anything for them
DICK GRAYSON as...
JOHNNY MARTIN ( penelope )
if you haven't seen penelope this is your sign to go watch it because james mcavoy plays THEEE most dreamy man i have ever seen
he falls in love with who you are, not what you could be or what other people say you are,, he makes his own judgements and sticks to them, even everything you hate about yourself he sees the beauty in it all
literally ready to give up everything for That person
he may make a silly mistake like johnny did in the filmb, but you gotta realise dick grayson is not the man you want to let get away GO CHASE YOUR MAN GET HIM BACK
anf also the ending scene where johnny and penelope kiss HELLO he is literally putting his whole james mcavussy into that kiss and we all know dick grayson wouldn't half ass anything for the one he's most in love with ;(
JASON TODD as...
PATRICK VERONA ( 10 things i hate about you )
you can't tell me the whole bad boy and miscommunication thing wouldn't happen because it just WOULD
like say after everything's happened, jason too is a little bit emo and is this brooding "bad" kid who smokes in the corner of the library or something and hangs out at bars after school
he wants to make a little extra cash just to be extra rebel (he just doesn't want to ask bruce for money because he's going through a phase) and he doesn't reallllyyy care about the person he's being paid to take out
but then it hits and every time he looks at them angels start singing and they glow like they've been kissed by the gods
TIM DRAKE as...
JESSE WALLACE ( before sunrise )
okay forgive me if i get anything wrong here it's been a very long time since i last watched this movie but
tim has that cheekiness when he's in love that jesse has, maybe not exactly as cheesy (i can't watch the kissing scenes becquse they're so sloppy lol), but he falls and he falls hard
when he likes / loves someone they literally take up every fibre of his being and morph him into a lighter, happier person
he notices the little things, like the scene of wanting to tuck celine's hair behind her ear but being too shy because she already did it ???? that's SO tim because it's like he wants to be this suave macho guy, but he's just a little bit shy at the same time at initiating things
but he's in a european country getting all cultured and he's met this amazing person and he can't just let them get away
DAMIAN WAYNE as...
MR DARCEY ( pride & prejudice )
LOLLL yes i did it i could so totally see damian as like this awkward little thing but he shows he cares with the little things, like noting you prefer to walk so he asks to accompany you as opposed to taking public transport or driving ????
and also the hand thing
is so freaking damian
like he'd be a bit withdrawn, definitely awkward and he doesn't know how to act but he wants you BADDD sooo what daddy wants daddy gets
technically he is royalty right ?? i don't think mr darcey was royal but he definitely held a lot of prestige, so he'll be respected, have the manners he was taught to have growing up and struggle to talk to you any other way than to refer to you as if you were a blessing to walk this earth (but you're his blessing so it's okay)

wait actually. yanno how when people complain about endgame steve leaving bucky and the dudebros go “oh my god not everything is about your stupid ship they were not in love steve and bucky were like brothers” and. arguably leaving your brother is worse in that situation i think. let’s look at steve and buckys whole dynamic through a sibling dynamic shall we.
like okay youre steve rogers in this scenario and your brother was presumed dead only for you to find out that he had been kidnapped by nazis and tortured and brainwashed for 70 years to the point where he didn’t even know his own name and had no bodily autonomy and when you found out about this you dismantled an entire sect of the government and then you’re brother in his confused state disappeared and you spent 2-3 years looking for him and then he was framed for murder and you believed him innocent despite the fact that he was an assassin for those 70 years when he was being tortured by nazis and maybe actually did do that for all you know but you fight the government (again) and a bunch of your new friends on his behalf and in doing so become a fugitive and spend another year(ish) on the run and then world gets attacked by this fuckass alien freak and you and you’re brother who is finally (mostly) himself again join the fight against the fuckass alien freak and you lose and your brother gets turned to dust and is dead for 5 years and so you join up with the friends who you had a falling out with to bring back all of the people who died and you succeed and your brother comes back to life and while he is much better than he was when you found him 4 (9?) years ago he is still fucked up in 15 different ways but you finally get the chance to actually be with your brother again after so long so that’s good right? wrong. you decide to leave that brother who you spent years trying to find and became a fugitive for to go back in time (a time where your brother is getting tortured by nazis and you can’t do anything to stop it because it will like break the timeline or whatever) to be with the girl you kissed once. like are you kidding me. who in their goddamn right mind would leave their sibling after all that. the answer is you wouldn’t and steve’s ending is stupid.
#my sibling moved out of my house and i miss her like a limb#and ur telling me steve left his ‘brother’ after all that? get the fuck outta my face#steve rogers#bucky barnes#stucky#<- exploring the ‘sibling dynamic’ of them so not really but. 👀 anyways#avengers endgame#endgame steve rogers#anti endgame steve rogers#is that a tag?#it should be#mcu#marvel

Hi! I'm Natalie. I'm trans of gender and ace of sexual and I write dark fantasy and dark sci-fi adventure stories full of boners and thud-and-blunder action violence wherein no swash remains unbuckled, nor pot unboiled. I also blog about books and history and languages and I write essays and poetry sometimes, and don't forget about the many exciting Age of Empires 2 scenarios available at Natalie's Cool Website.
You might have heard my short story The Wishing Tree on the Tales to Terrify podcast! (now available as a zine from Grinning Kitten Press). Other stuff I’ve published to date includes:
THE LAST GIRL SCOUT: A post-apocalyptic wasteland adventure story and transbian romance about two women who fall in lesbians together and fight Nazis and draculas in the bombed-out ruins of Old America
LEAD AND ROSES: LOVE SONGS AT THE END OF THE WORLD: A collection of short fiction set within 23rd-century post-nuclear wasteland we’ve all come to know and love
IN THE COURT OF THE NAMELESS QUEEN: A collection of dark fantasy f/f erotica about sexy swashbuckling swordswomen (both cis and normal) and a giant scary monster lady in a far-off realm of adventure and dark magic.
If you're curious I'd really like it if you'd check out my Patreon because there's even more fantabulous treasures on there and you can subscribe for the low, low price of just one American dollar. Your one American dollar will go toward the ever topical "Natalie can make rent and doesn't starve" philanthropy fund.
I'm gonna stay here on Tumblr until they forcibly remove me from the premises, but I'm also on Pillowfort, Bluesky, and Cohost

ok this might be an L take or whatever but i really think a lot of the "you cant be friends with people you have disagreements with on fundamental issues" gang 1. are mostly interacting with others on the internet, and 2. imagining the scenario as like. meeting a nazi at a bar and going "oh hes an alright chap" and not the much more common scenario of finding out your best friend from high school is, like a libertarian who is maybe a little too fond of ayn rand or something. "oh where is this mystical cishet man who says slurs but is an ally" i hate to break it to you but thats like any white boy who grew up in a mildly racially diverse community. none of you are familiar with the special form of brainrot that emerges in white boys when they spend all day at school making friends with the black and brown kids but going home to white suburbia.
#spinning my web#y'all know what im saying?#maybe i lived the exception here but i feel like this is pretty average#the weird woke-racist mosaic of the mind of a white boy with black and brown friends is spectacular#im very illiterate today tho so maybe this is nonsense

Scenario:
A big, famous department store has four portraits of Hitler as decoration on a wall. Two of the portraits are hanging behind a small statue of two hands making a heart. The portraits are lifelike, but in bright colors. They are replicas of work by a famous artist, and art critics think the artist was probably criticizing Hitler. Neo-Nazi politicians dislike the originals and, when a museum included them as part of an international tour, called for the originals to be specifically excluded from the tour.
There are no plaques or anything explaining any of this history, paying tribute to Hitler's victims, or even naming the artist-- anon found out who created the original works by Googling it. (If you know the store/artist/portraits anon is talking about, please don't spoil it.)
We ask your questions so you don’t have to! Submit your questions to have them posted anonymously as polls.

So, in science & technology studies, one of the words we throw around is "scientization," the act of making something into a science. And, you know, a lot of this is good, or at least neutral: the scientization of medicine; the scientization of cosmology; it means that a field has gotten more rigourous and definitive than it used to be.
But in politics, what scientization often means is that something that should be a policy issue is kicked over to scientists as a means of naturalizing or normalizing it, exempting it from normal political debate, or avoiding responsibility for unpopular decisions. "Oh, we needed to bomb this place because our models said it would end the war faster"; "Oh, we needed to privatize this service because our economists said it would save us money"; etc. And a lot of the debate in the field of science policy is given over to the question of when is it legitimate to kick something over to scientists, and in what contexts, because it's often kind of arbitrary. Like, I think that anyone who takes climate change seriously believes that science needs to inform the response to it, but you can build whatever assumptions you want to into your models, and the math will gobble them up indifferently; and Western liberal governments have overwhelmingly chosen to imagine scenarios where we can just keep doing capitalism because magical new "carbon capture" technologies will probably be invented down the line, and cap-and-trade will probably work perfectly, and anything that might be lost due to climate change can be straightforwardly assigned a monetary value and compensated, and refugees from desertification and rising sea levels will probably just not exist and so on. [Obligatory reminder that Climate Change is way worse than pretty much anyone in mainstream politics is willing to admit]
And anyways, I think that a special case of this "scientization-as-political-bullshit" phenomenon is at play in the field of polling. Like, consider Kamala Harris's entire campaign (or if you prefer, practically any neoliberal politician's campaign anywhere in the world since 2008 or so). This was a campaign where seemingly every decision was kicked over to pollsters. Can't call conservatives weirdos--you might offend moderates! Can't call on Israel to stop bombing Gaza--you might offend moderates! Can't stand up for transgender rights--you might offend moderates! Can't call for single-payer healthcare--you might offend moderates! And so on, and so forth. In every case, it's trying to do politics without being political, and it's doing so by embedding a bunch of incredibly insidious assumptions into models and then calling it science! Like, maybe "moderate" voters would get on board with a ceasefire, or trans rights, or single-payer healthcare, if a prominent politician with a billion-dollar war chest to get her message out fucking tried to make a case for it! Like, remember when the overwhelming majority of Americans opposed gay marriage? I do! I wonder why that changed? Or, for that matter, why courting moderates--as all of these models seem to assume--should necessarily be a higher priority than inspiring disenchanted voting-age adults to turn out at all?
And I worry I'm making this sound like innocent incompetence--it's not. This was done very specifically and very intentionally to foreclose upon discussion of progressive priorities while saying that you're being scientific; while saying that you are, ridiculously, being apolitical when a running a political campaign. And now we have these useless, disingenuous assholes patting themselves on the back and saying that this campaign was never winnable! Because the "SCIENCE" says so!
And meanwhile, you have Donald Trump--idiot nazi bastard thug child of a demon and a swine Donald Trump, cursed be his name--bowling through the political scene like a bull in a china shop, utterly indifferent to all of these fancy-schmancy mathematical models and too stupid to understand them...and winning enormously! Making his own coalition. Because thick as he may be, ignorant as he may be, incurious as he may be, he at least knows one single solitary thing that the Democrats don't: Politics isn't science; it's magic. And you don't get anywhere in magic without the will to power.

what’s with you and the Elon thing?
if anyone did that gesture in basically any scenario it’d be seen as questionable at best. I don’t think he’s necessarily a crypto-nazi, but I do think it was an intentional statement of edgelord-ism to rile people up
Why are you going to bat for this guy? It can’t just be contrarianism, you seem genuinely passionate.
personally, I’m no friend of the SJ people, but I don’t think they’re crying wolf this time. Im not sure how to prove my truthfulness, but I was strongly against eg: 2020 BLM, defund the police, Daniel Penny arrest, and so on.
it is more important to believe things that are true than it is to believe things that are mean, even if they are mean about someone you don't like
any situation in which a large group of people are belligerently declaring "How dare you say we should believe things that are true instead of things that are mean! Anyone who cares about anything other than believing things that are mean is despicable and should be destroyed!" is a bad one
people are aggressively, openly, proudly throwing away all capacity for reason, and winning because they are inherently entitled to win for doing that. this makes me sad.

I don't like fics where Jason just abandons Gotham, because that makes no sense what so ever, like where he is supposed to go now??? But fics where Jason leavs the Batfam are soooo it. And I wish there were more fics that has Jason leave the batfam (or just cut Bruce off, I'm totally fine with just Bruce) but stays in gotham. Because dammit he was born and reborn here, he going to stay here.
anon im gripping your shoulders because. YES. YESSSS!!!!!!!!
putting it under the cut because it got long
a/ as you said hes been born & reborn there AND to quote myself he will look at all 10 vigilantes running around that city & go 'none of them get her like i do' & get down to business. he takes everything about that city very personally. making him leave just so the conflict subsides feels like a disservice to his character & the easy way out.
b/ i know we all joke abt jason needing self-respect in order to actually leave the bats, especially given how often he gets degraded at their expense but still sticks around given the direction dc is taking for bat-affiliated characters to make them a family unit. but i really do think he has the gumption & the self-respect [not to be confused with self-worth. he has zero self-worth applied to his life. zilch] to demand the respect & autonomy he deserves. the entirety of utrh was about that. he knew what he deserved from bruce & he demanded it every way he could. he also is flexible enough to work with others but stubborn enough to stick to his own ways [see: teaming up with bruce in the middle of their extended cat & mouse chase, doing flippy maneuvers with him but shooting a nazi right in the head at the end of their team-up] we'll have to stick to that version of him for this scenario to make sense
c/ now it is very important to me that there is no one being bashed for the sake of it. with concepts like these ppl often veer into very extreme depictions of characters. i don't think is always a bad thing, especially if it provides you comfort or catharsis, hell i've enjoyed some fics like that myself but i personally would like to depict this in a manner that shows just how difficult it is for ppl on both ends to understand the other with a special focus on jason ofc since hes the one leaving them/shutting them out. i think the only person who absolutely will catch some strays is bruce but thats expected i suppose. lol
d/ im. extremely pedantic [its a compulsion] & hence feel the need to point out that 'leaving the batfam' is a phrase i use very loosely because 1- i do not enjoy the term batfam anymore & usually stick to 'the bats' or 'bat-affiliated characters' or sometimes 'batclan' 2- jason isnt completely treated as a part of their group & doesnt know half of them very well so 'leaving' here implies putting an end to the prolonged scapegoating, isolation, abuse & cautionary-tale-ification he has faced from bruce & alfred & maintaining his distance with the rest of them.
e/ ESSENTIAL to me that jason stops wearing the red bat suit & goes back to his utrh fit. he'll figure out another way to have tasers in his suit. he's already got a bomb as a part of it. dw abt it y'all. i need him to sever every part of him that's connected to them.
should..... i write up a post abt how i would write an au like this............ let me know if any of you guys want me to yap abt it <3

Why are liberals constantly likening themselves to fascists, constantly creating hypothetical scenarios to voice their support for Hitler? Don't they care how they sound?
No, they dont.
Fundamentally, there is an absolute limit to any sort of referential argument - of saying 'the zionist settler-occupation of Palestine is like the rhodesian settler-occupation of Zimbabwe', or 'the logic that justifies this type of transmisogynistic statement is the same logic that justifies this type of racist statement', or, yes, 'you are literally comparing yourself to Hitler'. That limit is precisely in the fact that you are relying on the argument against the referent to already have been made for you.
Plenty of people were and are fine with the colonial occupation carried out by Cecil Rhodes - including the founders of the israeli occupation state. Plenty of people still wholeheartedly agree with racist logic and hold racist views. These are not problems that are 'solved', squared away in the records of history to be referred back to - it was the prevailing opinion among liberals in the 1920s and 1930s that Hitler and the Nazis were basically great guys, opposing the authoritarian menace of the communists. It should not be surprising that the liberals who - right this moment! - send donations to neonazi militias in the Ukraine, to buy more sonnenrand patches, are fine with comparing themselves to Hitler!
Referential arguments are not enough. An actual, substantive argument, built of Marxist theory, is what is required in all cases, and simply hoping one has already been provided cannot do. You are watching, in real time, as the liberal position explicitly reverts to 'fascism is an acceptable alternative', and you can do nothing but guffaw and say 'but that's fascism!' as if they don't know. It cannot do. Study, discuss, and come to a proper understanding of the matter. Lives depend on it.

I don't really like this discussion from either perspective.
Mostly because there isn't a single "correct" version of Superman.
This is a character that has been reinvented over and over since 1939. His politics shift not only due to the era, but also due to the current writer's sensibilities and beliefs.
If you want to refer to Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's original intentions, Superman was an opposite reflection of the Nazi Aryan ideal. They were Jewish and wanted to use that ideal against the principles of nazism. Superman looked the part—tall and muscular with chiseled features. But he saved the weak and helpless. He was compassionate and just.
He was anti-fascist.

"Truth, justice, and the American way" was a phrase created for the first television show. In that era, "the American way" was understood as wartime patriotism and American ideals of freedom and family—but all in the context of that opposite reflection of nazism.
"The American way" was basically understood as "Hey, at least we're not fucking Nazis."
I don't think modern labels of conservative or liberal would fit that version of Superman. But if you were to shoehorn it, there is only one group currently harboring nazis and fascists, and it isn't on the Left.
There is one version of Superman that was coded more conservative.
Frank Miller, famous libertarian and misguided curmudgeon, had a version of Superman in The Dark Knight Returns who was basically a pawn of the US Government. A supercop for Ronald Reagan. He was depicted as more of a nationalist than a patriot. His "American way" was based on "might makes right." America is the good guy in every possible scenario.
I'm pretty sure Frank was mocking the Superman archetype. Satirizing how America would *actually* use a superpowered being. Basically, the only conservative version of Superman was coded as a villain or nemesis for the anti-authoritarian Batman.
If you read The Dark Knight Returns and feel Superman is depicted as a positive conservative figure, you probably also think Homelander is the heroic protagonist of The Boys.
Superman's politics cannot be easily condensed into a single ideology. You'd have to analyze each writer and their intentions individually. But the persistent characteristics of Superman over the years would definitely lean him toward progressive ideals.
He was a fantasy created by two marginalized Jews who were watching their people get slaughtered by fascism. A figure that could use his immense power to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
If that version of Superman existed in real life today, I suspect he'd be visiting a prison in El Salvador to facilitate a prisoner release with laser eyes on standby.

There's a beautiful model of time travel called hypertime, which so far as I know was invented by qntm. You can read about it here.
The general idea is that there's an infinite stack of universes, possibly with a "prime" universe, each temporally offset from each other by some small amount (or just being continuous). You can imagine all of time on a chart where a properly sloped diagonal defines a specific time (e.g. January 1st, 2001), every horizontal line defines a single universe from its past to present, and every vertical line defines multiple universes that are "initially" arranged so that they're equivalent to "down" being backward in time and "up" being forward in time.
My plan was to write a fanfic of the NBC show Timeless using this model, rather than the one they use in the show. I see now that this was hugely more ambitious than Timeless ever deserved.
The big thing that keeps drawing me to this idea like a moth to flame is that there are cool things you can do with it. Here's one of them: a person goes to what they think of as "back in time", which is actually "down" on the time sheet, and ends up in a past that's different from the one they remember. How cool is that??
You intend to go to the past to see what's on Nixon's missing 18 minutes, and instead find yourself in a universe where the Nazis won WWII. And if you're operating under the assumption your time machine works like the one in Back to the Future, you're suddenly extremely confused. So you go back in time again, heading to just before the outbreak of WWII, and ... it's completely normal, with no sign that anyone has been monkeying around.
This is my white whale of a scene: the revelation that it all actually does make sense, the unfolding implications, the machinations of all the major time traveling factions and their goals.
I'm not actually sure that such a scene can be written in such a way that the majority of the audience would get it. Hypertime is hellish. Diagrams would help, but I'm not sure how much, especially because one of the things that (this subset of) hypertime assumes is some level of determinism and the inability to talk about "when" things happen except using reference frames.
As an added bonus, hypertime makes it possible to have diverse scenarios such that you can be wrong about how time travel works multiple times. You start out thinking that it's a stable time loop, you eventually see that contradicted and realize that it must be branching timelines, you see that contradicted and decide that it's ripple effect, and you see that contradicted and end up realizing that you're in this stupidly complicated hypertime setup. It has the potential to be the most complicated time travel story of all time. It has the potential to have the greatest number of explanations of time travel in a story, many of them incorrect.
I am at the point where I have an almost intuitive understanding of hypertime, but it took me drawing a lot of diagrams to get there, and I'm not sure I possess the writerly ability to explain it properly, especially if there are misdirects built into it.
A man can dream though.

I love how many stories there are from WWII where people survive encounters with nazis, even the gestapo, simply by bullying them and claiming to know important nazi members.
I’m listening to the podcast A Very Secret Life where a man tells his dad’s story. He was part Danish, part German, and worked as a spy for England. He was very valuable to the Brits because being part German and being able to speak perfect German meant the nazis trusted him. He almost got caught during a mission in Germany but managed to escape simply by yelling at the German police and saying he had some very important stuff to deliver to their superiors so they better call their damn office and then they’d see who was in trouble!
When he finally escaped to Denmark the gestapo showed up at his mom’s apartment looking for him and she did the same thing. She was full blooded German and stated shouting at them about her important cousin who outranked all of them and she even chased them all the way down the stairs and started kicking their cars until they left. That meant nobody suspected her of secretly being a nazi supporter after the war despite being German because everyone remembered her chasing the gestapo away.
It’s such a classic scenario when you base a system on fear. I’ve heard of western soldiers in the Middle East who backed out of a situation because someone threatened to get them in trouble with their superiors. Will any military ever learn to stop being so mean to their people they end up spending more time trying to avoid their own bosses than anything else?
