I think it's fair to say that there are some little ship worthy interactions between gintoki and tae that anime added. Not a question, sorry, just decided to share with you since you talked about differences and other pairings in that way.
1. When Tae dresses as China girl she asks Gintoki how she looks wanting to know his opinion. Not present in the manga.
2. In "stands" arc when Tae pops out of Gintoki's mouth (as a stand) and says something like "Gin-san look out" Gintoki answers "Everything I can see is you, don't get me wrong, I'm not flirting with you". In the manga he just says " I can't see a damn thing cause of you".
3. In sky resort arc Gintoki smiles when he sees that Tae is coming to "help" him and Hijikata, his face is emphasized. Not present in the manga.
4. Tama's vacation episode. In the manga Gintoki and Tama didn't go to Snack Smile. In the anime they went to cabaret club and Otae looked annoyed seeing Tama on Gintoki's lap and she beat up Gintoki (tho I'm not sure if I can count it as a shipping moment?? Maybe she was just worried for Tama?😅)
Tho I still would prefer dialogue in love hotel (Shinpachi and catgirl), grandpa Yagyu's accusation and Kintoki's words about the most important people being animated over this cause:
1. Dialogue in love hotel scene is not only snippy, but funny, they basically cut out Gintoki and Tae being bokes together.
2. Grandpa accusing Gintoki of him being in love with Tae is a part of humorous "chain" – we know that other characters accuse gintae of this too. Also it mirrors gramps asking Tae if she likes someone else before.
3. Kintoki straight up says that those 4 started it and those 4 will end everything. Why anime didn't say it??? Weird decision. Gintoki, Shinpachi, Kagura, Tae and Tama are also emphasized in BFY (without Sadaharu unfortunately)
4. Points 1 & 4 makes Tae act 1) out of character 2) more petty than she's in the manga; Points 2 & 3 are kinda ooc for Gintoki too.
That's like anime tries to show more gintae sometimes, but then they just decide to fuck up Otae's character in return (making her more petty and more violent towards Gintoki as you said in your previous posts). I like anime, but come on, that's some weird sh!t right here.
yessireee i agree to all these...and thank you for adding more.
s1-s4 were a little kind to gintae yet weird to otae ngl. Later they just added some flairs to her scenes. I still won't forgive them for not adapting the most important part of Kintama arc though (and yagyuu arc too, what were they so scared of anyway wth). also i hate how solo merch of her are super rare much less her present with the yorozuya team at least.
#gintae#gintae meta#gintae thoughts#im not so familiar with the anime u see#its good to have info like these

Skintight
Summary: It’s a beautiful day to go out and cosplay at your local anime convention!
But it’s a horrendous day for Joseph to get some Artist Alley shopping done when he’s too buy being mesmerized by your stupid sexy cosplay!
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: F!Reader/Joseph
I MISS ANIME CONS SMH
I NEED MY FIX OF SEEING FRIENDS, MAKING NEW ONES, AND GIVING ALL MY DOUBLOONS TO NEW ACCESSORIES FOR MY ITABAG ; v ;
IT WAS WHY I WAS APPREACIATIVE TO @spaceispeachy FOR SUCH A FUN COMMISSION PROMPT!!! THANK YOU LOTS FOR SUCH A FUN TIME!!!
ANYWAY PLS ENJOY!!! OWO
--------------
It took a lot for Joseph to hate sweets.
After all, how could he ever be in a bad mood when he had a mouthful of brownies, or cracking open a cannoli to lick out the cream filling while Caesar looked about ready to suplex him for his crimes against Italian cuisine?
But there was one dessert that was taunting him.
A treat that he could not easily have while he meandered through a bustling Saturday morning at the local anime con Artist Alley.
Pudding.
When anime con meals tend to run from convention center French fries, to food truck curry bowls, and freebie Pocky for subscribing to a streaming service, his craving for such a simple treat was rather odd.
But the allure of creamy pudding called to him nonetheless.
Literally.
“Aww, that’s sweet of you, but I already have a puddin’, see?”
The sweet chime of your voice.
Paired with the cheeky point of a foam prop hammer sent towards his direction.
Immediately, his concentrated expression from trying to calculate the value of getting a Fire Emblem Awakening key charm set for $35 turned into a menacingly cheerful look as he quickly turned around to wave at yet another Joker cosplayer who approached you for pictures of your Harley Quinn cosplay.
God, what was it with these Persona 5 fans hitting on you today?
The poor lad immediately shrunk back after realizing you were taken.
In retrospect, this issue could have been easily resolved if he decided to complement your Harley Quinn as a genderswapped Poison Ivy prior to the convention, but today was to be dedicated to Artist Alley and he did not want to be restricted within the busy crowds by someone stepping on the vines of his cosplay.
But with him dressing casually, admirers of your form-fitting outfit seemed to be blissfully ignorant to the way his hand protectively held yours, or the kisses shared between you both whenever you stopped at an open area for you to reapply your lipstick.
Not that he could blame them.
Even though he really did.
Your honey colored overalls alone were enough to get him sweating, the tight-fitting fabric hugging your curves and accentuating your ass, which made watching each step you took as you led the way a mesmerizing taunt.
And he did not want to get started on the cheeky peek of your cleavage thanks to the unzipped front of your overalls, your pink bralette looking to be more and more of a nuisance as they obscured your breasts from his grabby hands eager to rip your clothes right off--
“Shall we?”
Your fingers intertwined with his while your lips met in a kiss, the warmth of your palm putting his senses at ease.
“Lead the way, babe!” He grinned with an affirmative nod and wink, even if his self-restraint was looking to be in tatters.
There were still a ways away to get through the rest of Artist Alley, and he didn’t know if he was going to keep himself calm all the way back to the hotel.
As the two of you passed by an artist table selling Gintama-inspired soap, Joseph minded himself to stay calm with steady breaths and quell the heat that was spreading within his loins to hold on until later tonight.
For now, he found relief with his imminent purchase of a set of Yorozuya soap bars, his mind already racing to when he could use them to rub your body clean during a nice long shower once you both returned to your hotel room.
He just needed to have you retrieve his money from your wallet, given the inevitability of him losing something.
You were just about ready to, your back facing him as you reached into your bag.
Up until a group of passing cosplayers bumped against your side, causing you to stumble forward while dropping his money onto the floor in the process.
Alarmed, you immediately bent over to pick up the dropped bills.
While it was instinct for Joseph to bark out an “Oi, watch it!” to the oblivious group, the sight of the fabric of your overalls becoming taut as they stretched over your ass perfectly served to leave him speechless immediately afterwards while eviscerating whatever remnants of his self-restraint were still intact.
The look on your face was sheepish when you turned around, offering him a “sorry” and his money.
But instead of taking his dollars, Joseph was taking hold of your wrist as he quickly dragged you along and out of the Artist Alley crowds.
“J-JoJo! What about your soap?” You yelped, doing your best to keep up with Joseph while stuffing his money back into your bag.
Though he barreled on ahead without any intent to stop, Joseph quickly turned his head back towards you, his face hot and red as he remarked, “The soap can wait, I can’t!”
You knew what that urgency in his voice meant, your heart fluttering upon realizing his intentions.
With those words uttered, he quickly faced ahead, his eyes scanning around for any place that would provide the best discretion.
Thankfully, the search for privacy was not prolonged into a grueling endeavor upon coming across an empty panel room. A peek at the schedule taped on the entry door showed that there was supposed to be a showcase for the upcoming anime season, but the large “CANCELLED” that was scribbled onto the itinerary was all that he needed to see.
But not as much as he needed to see your breasts springing free from your clothes.
From a massive space packed to the brim with costumed attendees to the quiet, dark solitude of this single room.
With the lights off and not a prying eye around, Joseph felt nothing short of liberation as he hauled you right onto his lap after he sat down on one of the provided convention chairs. His lips smothered yours while his hands reached for your ass for a few firm needy squeezes, his voice in a grumble,
“Stupid sexy overalls that hug your ass! Only I’m allowed to do that, damn it!”
As much as he wanted to tear your clothes right off of you, he knew you’d manage to make a swing from your prop hammer lethal if he dared to tear apart your cosplay. So while he was mindful to help you with shimmying out of your overalls and tugging up at your bralette, he held no restraint once your nude skin was finally revealed.
The moment he caught sight of the bounce of your exposed breasts, his mouth was all over them for hot kisses, his suckling lips making it a point to leave red marks that would be difficult to hide.
By this point, he already unbuckled his belt and freed his cock out of his pants, his hands gripping your hips as he guided you to grind your slick core right onto the blunt thick tip of his dick, only sheathing himself fully inside once you began to mewl for him to move.
And move he did.
HIs hands returned to your ass for more indulgent gropes, holding tight as he had you bounce up and down his cock at a brisk rate, his need for your slippery wet heat too intense for him to even think to be slow.
You didn’t see or feel a problem with this, reciprocating his rhythm by the shake of your hips, all while your arms wrapped around his broad shoulders while your lips fell onto his neck, red kisses left in their wake--it was only fair for you to mark him up, after all.
Not to mention, while it was only the two of you alone in this room, the murmured chattering in the hallway outside the panel room served as a constant reminder that the two of you wouldn’t be private for long.
But with how riled up that Joseph had become from being utterly entranced by your alluring costume to how delightfully fierce that he was pounding up into your core, it did not take too long for the two of you to reach your climaxes. The hot spill of his cum poured inside you as your walls squeezed around his cock, your mouths met to muffle each other’s moans in a kiss
Your lips parted once Joseph fell back against his chair in a satisfied slump, his arms still hugging you close.
As you caught your breath, you looked up to him with a flustered expression, your lips pouting. “Now I’m gonna be all sticky walking through Artist Alley.”
A grin just cracked onto his lips as he leaned forward, kissing your forehead while reaching down to give your ass another squeeze as he affectionately teased,
“Don’t worry about it, puddin’. I’ll wash you up real nice with some Gintama soap tonight!”
He would happily make good on his word.

Day two: Unrequited Love
Her feelings
It felt like she knows him since the start because they never needed words to understand each other. Kagura remembers how they met under the cherry blossoms tree, and how they started to brawl on the grass expanse for no reasons. They didn’t need reasons to fight each other either, everything is natural, fluid and absolutely logical.
They fought together a lot, her and Sadist. At this time, she was only fourteen, and she likes his company because he’s insanely strong for a human, and he’s willing to be her sparring partner. Even if cruel words, and insults come along with the mess; she’s fine. The funniest moments she lived, it’s with him.
She notices how much he mattered to her only when he leaves for Bushu. She has always been emotional, of course, but she almost wanted to cry back then. She doesn’t, though, they are not weak, the biggest battle is approaching so they just promise.
She is not supposed to lose against anyone, but him, ever again. And so is he.
Kagura remembers his words, she grows, and she feels like he’s defeating her every time. It’s not a bad feeling or a good feeling, but she keeps his rare smiles and grins into her memory for her to hold on them when night comes. She doesn’t tell anyone, but at fifteenth, Kagura is in love.
Her dreams
She doesn’t see what’s wrong with loving him. Of course, she’s prideful, and she doesn’t want him— or anyone— to learn about her secret garden, but she knows he’s not a bad a guy deep inside, and perhaps he can even be sweet. He’s always sweet when he’s thinking of his late sister, and when she learns about his story Kagura understands that they’re closer than what she initially thought.
Maybe, she thinks, maybe they will be together one day; as in together together. She doesn’t mind keeping their rivalry; however, she wants intimate moments as well. She’s fine with him, how he acts, what an idiot sadistic prick he is, and that he never speaks a lot. He shows, but doesn’t speak, and it’s fine too.
Her stomach feels all too funny. Kagura wishes for a family, and she thinks the Sadist just might be good as a father. Would he be loving? She wonders, would he be a caring kind? Or perhaps, slightly tsundere?
When Gin-chan and Shinpachi ask her why she’s smiling all alone, and so suddenly, Kagura doesn’t explain. She says men are blind idiots.
Them, growing
She waits for when they’re more mature and ready. Her body shows that she’s still a brat at fifteen, and she wouldn’t be able to bear any children at her age anyway; lot of time is ahead for her to enjoy their childish rivalry. As years pass on the Earth— it always go quickly, because really, the Yorozuya always have awesome adventures— she grows.
She’s now a woman, or so everyone deems her to be now. Admiringly, Kagura is beautiful, and as womanly as she wished for. Maybe she just takes after Mami, because she’s got the same model’s body, and a face to be swooned over; long lashes, chiselled face, red lips, and hypnotizing azure eyes. Now, she wants to be noticed by him.
He isn’t much taller than her, but he’s even handsomer than before. His baby-angelic face had left for a manlier Sadist with his hair growing longer. She likes men with long hair so Kagura just likes him even more.
Him, not a prince
She knows Okita is imperfect, and a sadist. The prince of sadists. It doesn’t matter to her when he plays with other women, because Kagura is confident that they don’t mean anything to him and that they never go further than SM plays. He just likes inflicting pain. It doesn’t surprise her when she catches her with a willing M on Edo street. When it happens Okita makes fun of her singleness, she scoffs, sticks her tongue, and then leave them.
She doesn’t need to worry, because if he could have such deep feelings of attachment for Mitsuba or the Gorilla; why would he spoil his first time, and his body with someone meaningless? Kagura nods to herself. She goes to a girl’s shop and buys a pretty Qipao for her to enjoy. She’ll make him see.
When they fight, she knows he’s distracted over her curves. Of course, because they’re not as discreet as before, and she loves feeling pretty to his eyes. She wonders if she should make any moves soon; since he doesn’t make any either. They just fight, sometime eat or discuss together, and separate.
She’s not very patient, so she decides to take the first time when the right opportunity show up.
Her, a rival
Kagura walks onto the streets of Yoshiwara, as she wants to ask Tsukky about her plan to make Okita Sougo definitely grovel at her feet. And maybe proposing, too.
It’s a coincidence when she meets him and a girl entering a hotel. He doesn’t notice, probably because he’s too into ‘it’— the woman with him is really beautiful. She has long wavy honey hair, her eyes are golden, and she wears an equally pretty dark kimono. She seems very sweet, and delicate.
Okita laughs and smiles at her, but not like what he does with Kagura. He looks glad, maybe excited. They enter the hotel, and Kagura is still frozen because she doesn’t expect this to happen in her plan, but she tries to be positive. It may be a woman, an M, since Okita is also a healthy and hormonal man he could be tempted with a pretty girl. It doesn’t mean she have no more chances with him.
The girl is called Miki Sugawara. They met when he saved her from some perverts in the streets, and it’s a coincidence but they have the same preference on sex. Okita says he might be serious this time, because the girl understands him and his desires, and that they have a good feeling together. Besides, he says and grins, she’s more elegant and pretty than any other woman he knows.
Kagura stays silent as he makes fun of her, but the joke is not funny anymore.
She wonders if he only sees her as a rival, and that maybe, when he’s distracted over her body it’s only because she might be challenging in bed, and nothing else. She could only blame herself for reading too much into their bond, but she feels betrayed. She tries to keep the good face still; it won’t do her good to cry in front of him when all hopes are terminated.
“You know, she’s different. She’s an M, but she’s not clingy. She knows when I want to have fun, and when I’m not so I think she’s my ideal wife; or something. I don’t believe in love, but I believe that I hold some affections for her.” He says, and looks at her lost face. “What? Are you jealous because you’re still single China?”
“I’m not!” She argues and gets up. “The Queen of Kabuki-Cho can have anyone; whadd’ya think? It’s just that, well, I’m not like you.”
“What, are you doing to wait for the ‘right one’? You do realize that the perfect prince doesn’t exist.”
“Yes, I know,” she turns her back and bits back a tear, a hesitation. “My perfect prince or whatever, doesn’t exist. Gin-chan’s gonna be worried if I don’t go home. Ja—ne, Sadist!”
Her, disappointed
When she comes to the Yozoruya she’s already spilling all the tears she held down until now. Shinpachi and Gin-chan panick, of course, because she doesn’t cry this much at sixteen. She’s become a fine and a big girl now, but it doesn’t mean she has no weaknesses.
She cries, cries, until there’s no water left to cry. Gintoki and Shinpachi exchange a knowing glance, there may be idiot men in Kagura’s peripheral, but the only one they know is a certain officer. They noticed she has feelings for him, it becomes very obvious with her big grin every time she sees him, and they know it has to do with him if she comes so devastated.
“What’s wrong?” Gintoki pats her head as she trembles on his lap. It’s late night, but he’s ready to hear what happened.
“H-He’s an idiot, Gin-chan! He’s a damned idiot! I-I-I thought we c-could, no, that we w-were something but it’s all wrong. It’s unfair! Why am I the only one in love? Why am I the only one to feel the pain?” He shouts, grips at his kimono. “Never! He’s never seen me like I see him. I’ve been the only one to love, I feel like an idiot.”
“Well, well,” Gintoki sighs. “What should we do Shinpachi? The man must be blind to not fall for our Kagura-chan right?”
“Right, Kagura-chan, he’s an idiot. A big idiot. It’s okay to cry; there’s plenty of other boys in the world! This one doesn’t deserve you.” Shinpachi tries to hold down his hate; because his little sister is crying and in such a state— because of one idiot.
The biggest of all idiots.
“B-But I love him; Gin-chan, Shinpachi, it hurts to not be loved back.” She tries to muffle her hiccups but in the end, she gives up and cries for the night.
When she falls asleep, Gintoki and Shinpachi swear together to beat down the officer the morrow.
Her name
When she wakes up, her eyes are all puffy. She feels dead and tired, but she gets up nonetheless, and tries to think in the solitude of her close; of what to do now. She lost her man yesterday, but it wasn’t the end of her life, and with all the willpower of the world, she tries to think of plans. Maybe, she thinks, she should focus on her career.
Seeing space, fighting aliens of all kind: this should leave her enough time to recuperate from him, and for the scars to be healed. After all, it’s also her childhood dream to follow her father’s steps, and she’s old enough to go and see the wonders of galaxies. She doesn’t want to feel like it’s because of her heartbreak, but it is, and it would be lying to say the contrary. It’s fine, she guesses, to be weak at this kind of times.
Kagura. It’s a prestigious name to be of the Ka— family. She’s born from Kouka, and Kankou, she doesn’t have anything to be complexed about. She’s young, powerful, kind, and pretty so she doesn’t have to envy this Miki.
There are plenty of fishes in the sea, especially in space. She lies to herself, because she knows it doesn’t matter if there are other males in the whole universe; when she wants one especially. An unreachable man, she abandons her ideas with him. They don’t belong together, she understands, and he wants another woman than her so she can’t do anything, but accept.
She tells her closest friends, and Earth family, about her plan. Becoming the best alien hunter there is in the universe; since she’s Kagura. Gin-chan and Shinpachi don’t agree at first because it’s too brisk, and they know why she wants to leave so fast. She convinces them by promising to send them a lot of letters, and that she will come back.
Kagura prepares her bags— there aren’t many— and knows where to start.
She leaves in two days, and tomorrow is going to be her party before she goes up to play with the stars. Anego and everyone plan a big party, but Kagura refuses. She says she wants something less big, and just want to spend fun times before leaving.
Party would mean seeing Okita off, and she doesn’t know if she could take it; if she were to be honest.
Her love, to them
It was a fun day all thorough, everyone is smiling and don’t betray their true feelings. They laugh, they drink, they go to the attraction park, to Yoshiwara and to the pool. Kagura feels like it’s the best day ever, and she won’t be there anymore by tomorrow’s morning. She’s suddenly nostalgic, all these years living on the Earth sure are fun. It’s her favourite, little blue planet, and it’s such a shame she leaves because of one single idiot there.
Love is powerful, indeed.
On the night, they sing songs together at the karaoke. Gin-chan and Shinpachi are grinning with her because it’s not a farewell. It’s …A leave of absence, but she will definitely come back when she would be a recognized alien hunter, as well as when she’ll be able to face a married Sadist.
It’s not ‘Sadist’ anymore, because he’s not hers. Never been hers. He’s Okita, a friend, an ally, and now a regret.
She tries not to think too much of him, or she’ll cry again, and focus back to her family and friends. She’ll remember forever this day.
The morrow, she’s up at six of the morning with all her affairs and Sadaharu, her loyal pet. Everyone but the Shinsengumi’s there for the goodbyes, at the Terminal, she looks brilliant if she believes Gin-chan’s words. They hug one last time— before long— and she goes up on the spaceship with a big grin.
She looks through the windows as Edo becomes smaller, and smaller, until becoming nothing but a stain of colour in the picture. Here is it. She’s really leaving the Earth, her family, her everything, for a new start. She’ll surely learn a lot and gains more experiences in life before she comes back.
She’s saying her goodbye to the big blue planet and wishes for everyone to be well when she returns.
His (un)doubt
Okita thinks he should apologize to China. A week already since they spared last because he wants to deepen his relationship with Miki. They spend the time together, from Edo’s sights and restaurants to shady love hotels together and he feels good. Of course, a bit guilty too because China might just break a building or two if they don’t fight out all of their frustration.
When he comes to the park, at their bench in the afternoon he’s surprised she’s not here. It’s weird because he knows well her routine, and she’s always there— not for him, but sometimes she meets her other friends there or goes to buy Sukonbu. Instead, the wooden door is here and very much empty.
He sighs and comes back to the compound, maybe is she in a request with Danna and Megane. He’ll apologize later. It’s not like China wouldn’t forgive him just because he gave more attention to another girl; they are not anything like that.
He’s back at the compound but turns out Kondo-san is missing, and it’s up to him and Hijikata to go find him. The man’s probably at Boss Lady’s house anyway, so it’s not really a hard task to do. When they arrive, Danna and Megane are beating the gorilla already— probably on Boss Lady’s demand.
“Oi Danna, it’s not that, but we have to recuperate him.” It may be him, but as soon as his words leave his mouth it’s as if the mood tensed. He shrugs it off.
“You should jail him, it’s not our fault if he stalks this gorilla—Ouch! All the time!”
“We can’t do that Danna,” he deadpans, “he’s our chief.” Okita looks around, no red dress in his sight. “Is China not with you? I have to talk to her.”
“Kagura’s gone,” Danna replies dryly, and Okita wonders why he’s suddenly so sour. Men do not have periods. By gone, he doesn’t really understand, is she gone off to a mission? Vacation? Something else?
Kondo-san wakes up and wonders too, “I didn’t hear of the Princess going to any travel, did she visit her family? They’ve made up after all.”
“Kagura-chan is gone for a long time. She left to become an alien hunter a week ago, we don’t know when she will ever come back.”
Her, not here
He learned the news hours ago, but he’s still shocked that his rival’s gone so suddenly. He knows about her dreams, and how she wants to chase aliens in space, but it’s just so unexpected now. But more importantly, there’s something else to this. She didn’t inform him.
She leaves without telling him beforehand; China?
Okita’s not sure on why, or if she just doesn’t care— doesn’t want to bother him? It doesn’t fit her nor sound like something she’d do, and he’s confused. He has mixed feelings about this, it feels suddenly empty to imagine a life without her because he’s so used to her company now that…
He sits on the room, silent, and Yamazaki looks weirdly at him. He feels down because his most important rival doesn’t consider him as important enough to know of her sudden departure, and it hurts for some reasons. If he’s gone to her when he had to leave Edo, why does she not reciprocate?
Hijikata interrupts him with a growl. “You’re the only one not noticing what’s around you.”
“I don’t know what you mean Hijikata-san. Please die. And don’t talk of me.”
“Anyway, what are you doing to do with this other girl?”
“Miki? She’s nice, I’ll keep her for now. Are you interested in my life now, Hijikata-san?” He makes a disgusted face, earning him an even louder growl from the concerned.
“You settling down is a miracle, even if…” He pauses. “Never mind, this Miki girl, are you seriously into her? An officer shouldn’t fiddle around women so easily; it will ruin our reputation.”
“Our boss is stalker Hijikata-san. I’m not into anyone, but this one pleases me enough and can bear me; I don’t see why I shouldn’t settle down with her. I need more time before knowing, but she’s fine.”
Hijikata roses up to his feet and glares at him before closing the door. “I guess it’s not like you need to think twice before choosing now. You can go with this girl.”
Okita stays silent and ponders on what Hijikata-san meant. He doesn’t understand.
Him, missing
Life is less fun when China’s not around to be teased, Okita wonders what she’s doing at the moment; killing some aliens or eating? Maybe both at the same time. On one hand side, he’s still bitter about her not telling him that she’s leaving, and on the other hand, he has his own life to worry about first.
Instead of meeting China, he sees Miki now. The girl is enjoyable to stay with because she doesn’t ask or bother him too much and she knows how to read his mood. He’s not into sweet-looking girls like her, but it doesn’t bother him a bit; since she’s just…Great to be with. Okita doesn’t want a happy-happy marriage life; he just wants to build a family with a comprehensive wife.
She makes a good one but he finds himself less and less glad to meet her. It feels weird to see her face instead of China’s devious grins, dating instead of fighting, it’s as if she’s slipped away from his life without leaving a single trace. Well, it’s wrong. He has traces of her on his body, scars she’s left on him through their rather dangerous sparring.
Miki’s holding his arm, and they’re talking in the main shopping district. He decides to buy a kanzashi that suits her elegant Japanese style, as well as her shiny hair. But he picks on randomly; everything suits her right? He doesn’t need to especially care, and the girl’s happy so no complaints.
He walks with her to a restaurant next, she’s talking of some nice toys she’s seen on the new edition of SM ProMag. She doesn’t even blush at the mention of them; he likes her straight-forward ways with him. No need for PDA.
Straight-forward… China’s still on his mind, and he tries to not remember but the fact she’s not here anymore makes his stomach feels weird and uncomfortable. He apologizes and says he’s not feeling well, pays for the food and leaves.
He notices their relationship, him and China’s is not as good as before. He remembers to be often, if not always, with her and bickering. He wonders when they stopped being this way? Lately she’s always somewhere else, doing something else. Maybe when he started playing around girls.
He’s a bit sour and bitter when he comes to the compound. He feels like he should have enjoyed those moments with her now that she’s not here anymore.
Them, a family
Danna and Megane break into his room. They look angry for unknown reasons, and Okita wonders if Hijikata-san did something, or maybe Kondo-san? If that’s so, he doesn’t know why they broke into his room.
“I’m working here, Danna.”
“The work can wait, you damned idiot.” He’s never seen him so angry, it looks like he could kill him at this instant, and so is Megane. “I just learned from your two bosses that you were playing around a girl.”
“First of all, I’m not playing around her. Second, what’s got you in a bunch Danna? That I’m with a girl? Never knew you harboured homo-homo feelings towards me.”
“You’re…I can’t believe it…” Megane stares hard at him. “Didn’t you know Kagura-chan she…You don’t even deserve to know why she left. Okita-san, we’re going to tell you something. If you ever hurt her ever again, when she comes back, it won’t be settled as peacefully as this time. Gin-san, let’s go, he has no clues.”
“Wait Megane, China? Why did she leave? Wasn’t it to realize her dream?” He asks panicked.
“It’s too late to ask now, you will see when she comes back…If she ever does. But can I ask you a question?” Danna looks at him. “How would you feel if she chooses someone else over you? You know, she’s a pretty girl and surely, she won’t come back alone.”
Before he could answer, both of them were gone.
The question troubles him.
She, changed
It’s only four years later when he sees her in the street, buying Sukonbu of all things.
At first he can’t believe his eyes, that she’s here and standing a few feet ahead of him. He’s mesmerized by her sole presence and stands like an idiot in the middle of the street just to admire her. She’s grown even more but is still shorter than him, and her hair is even longer. There’s only one bun to cover her as the red strands reach her back, on her white dress that shows much of her legs.
She bows to the vendor, an old lady, and upon turning she notices him. China smiles slightly and closes in.
“Long time no see,” her dog barks after. “Okita.”
He feels weird when she calls him like that; he feels distressed over their lack of closeness, but he remembers it’s been four years, and they are not sharing any special bond now. “...Hello to you too, China.”
She looks healthy as ever, but he can’t but notice her eyes that look duller than before. They aren’t as glowing as before, and she bears a calm face that doesn’t suit her at all.
“So...You are back?”
“I thought it was the right time to go visit everyone, but I won’t stay for too long.” He feels like she’s drawing a line between them, and he doesn’t want it. “I still have to see Gin-chan and Shinpachi first, so—”
“Why?” He grabs her wrist and stares, hurt, at her. “You didn’t tell me that you were leaving. You just disappeared like that! Like nothing!”
“You were busy at that time, Okita.”
“But we were...You can’t just leave me outside. We’ve fought countless battles together and against each other. Even if I was busy, I would have gone to see you off.”
China stays silent, she seems mixed before talking again. “It’s not like we would have kept our former rivalry longer, so I thought it wasn’t any use to bother you. Now, I have to go.”
“Can’t we talk more? It’s been four years since I’ve seen you. China. Please.”
“Okita. We are former rivals and friends, but nothing more, and it’s impolite to be so insistent with a girl that’s not your wife. I have important news for Gin-chan and Shinpachi.”
She talks so coldly. He feels the distance between them, and he can’t accept it. He doesn’t want this, after four years; four years!
“Do you hate me? Did I do something wrong back then? Why did you leave?” He feels all the questions he’s been asking with time, but she doesn’t reply.
He feels bad.
“I don’t have any like or dislikeness towards you. For the other questions, I’m not willing to answer.”
“I’ve done something, didn’t I? I know I can be dense when it comes to understanding those around me. Tell me—”
She pushes him away and walks ahead. He feels at loss for any words to describe the inner turmoil he feels at the moment. Something is breaking in his body.
He missed her, but she’s now indifferent towards him, and he can’t understand why.

You bet your ass the Yorozuya fought over a free overnight trip to a resort.

[gintama fanfiction]
sakata gintoki x shimura tae [gintae]
3.9k+
--
They were everywhere.
On his arms, shoulders, waist, back. Everywhere she looked, there were traces of faded wounds. Some even overlapped others. Lines from scratches, cuts from blades, marks from spears and weapons she didn’t even know…seeing them up close sent shivers down her spine. It wasn’t the first time she had seen him naked like this, no, but it was the first time that she was able to let the sight of it – of him - sink in.
“Oy, if you’re going to sneak up on me like a pervert, at least do it well.”
Tae blinked. She thought she had been quiet.
“Exclusive wing, buffet access, unlimited room service, five-star amenities including a souvenir yukata set,” Tama rattled off to her audience. Shinpachi was sitting with his head in his hands. Kagura’s mouth was hanging open, while Catherine was in total shock. Otose calmly pulled a puff from her cigarette. “A western-style bath, open minibar, flat-screen TV, free wi-fi, 24-hour concierge and free transfers from the hotel, and an en-suite private onsen with a panoramic mountain view.”
No one spoke once Tama was done. The air in Snack Otose was thick with tension – but whatever it was that was happening, it didn’t seem to derail Gintoki even by a centimeter. He focused his dead fish eyes on his landlady, ignoring her smirk.
“Don’t tell me you’ll still say no to that.” Otose grinned as she blew out smoke.
Shinpachi stood up immediately. “Yes! I mean, no! I’m still going to say no! I won’t let it happen!”
Kagura wailed beside him. “It has unlimited room service! Unlimited food!”
“I still can’t believe you didn’t even consider me, Otose-san!” Catherine pounded her fists on the bar. “I’m the one who has been working hard here!”
“We just went last week, Catherine!” Otose snapped. Catherine glared at Gintoki as she served him a bottle of sake. “Don’t be selfish. And an onsen resort isn’t a place for kids –”
“We aren’t kids!” Shinpachi argued. “Eighteen is already legal in other countries!”
The old lady only waved her pipe at him.
“I’m actually more bothered you didn’t try to sell the ticket.” Gin said. “Quite the package, huh.”
“It was specifically requested to be given to you,” Otose eyed him. “If I don’t, those goddamn Stands might haunt me for the rest of my life.”
Gin freaked out. “So it is from that haunted snow spa?! Don’t give it to me!”
“Relax. It’s for another hotel in the next town, and they wanted to give it a test run before opening. My friend Oiwa was given the ticket, but she said she has no one to enjoy it with and she has work to do. So…she gave it to you.” Otose explained. She leaned on the bar across Gintoki and looked past him. “And…well, you.”
In the resulting chaos, it was easy to forget who the other recipient of the ticket was. Shinpachi groaned at being reminded of it.
“Are you still going to say no, Otae-chan?”
-
The hotel picked them up at the Yorozuya Friday morning. Tae inwardly wondered if the trip was worth the trouble, seeing that everyone just couldn’t calm down at the idea of her and Gintoki going somewhere.
Their departure caused a ruckus outside the shop. She nodded attentively at everything Shinpachi fussed over and tried to reassure him repeatedly. Kagura, meanwhile, was telling Gin to stuff his bags with room service food and to take home an extra yukata set for her. Kondo was tearing up as he nursed a baby gorilla, while Tama unceremoniously fished Sarutobi from underneath the car. Okita, for some weird reason, was hanging about, an AK-47 hitched by his hip. Gin narrowed his eyes at the sight of him; Tae had to pull him into the car just to get the goodbyes going.
As they settled in, Otose stepped near the window. Gin rolled it down to speak to her.
“Don’t do anything stupid,” Otose said, arms crossed before her. “Don’t be an embarrassment to mankind, like you usually are. And don’t try to bring home all of the toiletries. They’ll charge you for the towels.”
Gin groaned. “It’s not my first time, geez.”
Otose’s eyes twinkled. She leaned in to whisper, “Well if it’s not your first time, then you know what to do.” She glanced quickly at Tae and held back a chortle. “They don’t have a rotating bed, though, so you’ll have to make do with a futon.”
Tae felt all her blood rise up to her cheeks. “What – I – we – we’re not Otose-san –”
“Enjoy it, you goodamn good-for-nothing perm head.” A warm smile was on Otose’s lips. For a moment, she genuinely looked happy. “You deserve it.”
Gin only stared blankly at his landlady. Words escaped him as Otose stepped back and let the car rev up. All of a sudden, the window started to roll up on its own.
“Good luck, Gintoki, Otae-chan!” Otose called out, oddly cheery. “Play some Final Fantasy!”
As the car went on to its destination, Shinpachi swore he heard voices of protest. But those soon faded away.
-
Gintoki let out a sigh. He had wanted to relax on this particular trip – after all, two years of gallivanting all over the country wasn’t fun if you were on the run. He already planned his activities in his head: he’d gorge himself at the buffet, play a couple of rounds of pachinko, take a nap, watch some Ketsuno Ana reruns, and then go to the baths for a nice long soak. Once he was done, he’d sleep until midday the next day, repeat the process, and finally get some quality time to himself. He didn’t need Otose’s implications hanging over him – them – like a cloud.
“I can’t believe that hag,” he muttered as he read the place card on their futon. The staff had kindly laid the mattress out and placed a welcome message on it.
“Happy honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Sakata.” Tae read aloud, sputtering. Gin scratched at his head. “I…I mean, what kind of five-star establishment writes happy honeymoon? I guess Oiwa-san thought we were married...”
Gin pulled the closet doors open, frantically searching.
“There’s really just one futon?!”
“Maybe because it’s a honeymoon suite...?” Tae said, voice small. They both looked at the mattress and the card, unsure of what to do.
True enough, the room wasn’t large, but it truly was grand. Upon entrance, soft yellow lights lined a short hallway that led to the rest of the room. A loveseat type of zaisu was in the living room. In the bedroom area, the only futon was wide enough for two, fluffed up to look inviting. The bathroom was pristine, complete with all amenities. On one side of the room, instead of walls, the room was lined with clear glass, providing a panoramic view of evergreens and snowy mountains. In one corner was the star of the show – a very intimate-looking private onsen, overlooking the white mountain range.
Tae cleared her throat. They didn’t have to use the private onsen, now, did they?
“I’m afraid you do, madame,” said the receptionist. Tae had called up the front desk to ask for an extra futon – a request they also denied. “The only available public baths are the women’s; a problem has come up with the men’s bath so if your husband wants to use it, I’m afraid he has no option. Is anything of the matter, madame? Is the suite not to your liking?”
Tae gulped. Husband… “No, it’s not that – ”
“Oh, good.” The receptionist sighed out of relief. “We had prepared that room especially for you. I do hope you can let us know how the room was able to aid you in your activities –”
“…activities?”
“They have strawberry milk in the minibar!” Gin cried from the living room. “Unlimited strawberry milk!”
“We might not have rotating beds but we can send whatever you’ll need up – ”
Tae’s eyes widened with surprise. “W-what is up with everyone? We don’t want rotating beds – ”
“What do you mean? You specifically requested for one when we were in Kabuki-cho.” Gintoki stepped up next to her, drinking strawberry milk straight from the carton. Tae stiffened; the receptionist was giggling like mad on the other end.
“Don’t – Gin-san!” Tae glared at him.
Gin took the phone she was holding and spoke to the receptionist himself. “If you have a whip, please, that would be great –” Tae swatted his arm in silent protest. “ – and my wife says no. Okay, we were just joking. Yes. Hahaha. She’s a feisty one, that’s for sure. Yes. Absolutely. We’ll let you know. Alright, good night!”
“Gin-san! Why did you say all of that?”
“If they find out we’re not married, they might kick us out.” Gin nestled his mouth on the carton and spoke thorugh it. “Just play along. Relax. Don’t bother being paranoid whether or not I’m going to do anything to you because with that flat chest of yours, I won’t have even the will to try.”
Bam.
“Try saying that again –”
Situation aside, the hotel was beautiful. It wasn’t too big nor was it too small – it was cozy and welcoming, a perfect, quiet spot nestled in a peaceful, snowy mountain range. As she sat soaking in the women’s bath – she let Gintoki use the one in the room, instead – she felt somehow at peace. It had been a while since she had been.
Two years, huh? Tae hugged her knees to her chest and watched the ripples swimming around her. It had been two years since Gintoki had left them, and in the time he had been away, Tae realized just how much things could change.
Somehow, Shinpachi had grown up at a rate she didn’t expect. He didn’t laugh as often as he did before. The silence from Kagura was also telling. While still busy and bustling, Edo still felt incomplete. In the noise of the restoration, of Katsura’s reforms and Hasegawa’s blood-boiling credit-grabbing movie career, Tae felt bothered by a silence she couldn’t source. She had wondered if her change in lifestyle was the one to blame – after all, cabaret girl to diet instructor was quite the transformation. But no matter how busy she got, the longer she waited, the more unbearable the silence became.
“How do you do it, Aneue?” Shinpachi had asked her once. They were having dinner at the Shimura household, a practice they kept, even if Shinpachi was starting to lean towards taking over the Yorozuya. Even after six months of hearing nothing from Gin, he refused to sleep there, saying that his old boss might just return and need the room. “How can you just…wait?”
“Hmm? What do you mean?”
Shinpachi sighed deeply as he put his chopsticks down. “Whenever the big fights happen, there are times where you just wait for us. We leave you alone and not even tell you where we’ve gone. No news, nothing. But you still just wait and even greet us smiling when we come back.
I don’t know how you do it. Gin-san…Kagura-chan…I know they left me here alone for good reasons, but I still can’t help it. Why did we have to break up? Why couldn’t we do whatever it is they were going to do together?”
His voice had grown weak. Tae could only watch as her brother looked down at his lap, shoulders slumped, eyes hidden from his sister’s view. “There’s a part of me that can’t help but get…mad. Sad. I don’t know if I can greet them happy. I want to, but…”
“Shin-chan,” Tae started. The silence around them only pronounced that they were alone. “I know it’s hard to wait. Not hearing anything from them. Not knowing what’s happening. But if they know you’re here waiting, they’ll have all the more reason to come back.” She felt her lips break into a small smile. “You just have to trust them. Believe in them”
Shinpachi chuckled. It didn’t go well with the sadness in his eyes. “…it’s hard, Aneue. It’s amazing how you do it.”
Over time, Shinpachi had settled into a path of his own and found solace in his work as the new neighborhood Yorozuya. He soon found his rhythm and along with the rest of Edo, he was able to move on day by day. But Tae kept it to herself, that she found comfort in knowing that she wasn’t alone in feeling the heft of their - his? - absence.
“Oh, what am I thinking? It doesn’t matter now, does it?” Tae told herself, getting the attention of an older woman who was doing her own reflecting in a faraway corner. She smiled sheepishly and gave the woman a small nod.
He’s back now. That’s what matters. But as she left the bath and prepared to go back to their inappropriately designated room, her unease never went away. A bevy of things unsaid still hovered around him, clouds of silence, lingering like the wrinkles still on her over-soaked fingers.
-
When Tae came back, the room was a mess. Candy wrappers were everywhere. The television was left turned on, filling the air with Ketsuno Ana’s voice doing a weather prediction marathon. The further she got inside the room, the harder it was to see – the room was filling up with hot, humid mist. It was a miracle the smoke alarm didn’t go off.
“Gin-san!” Tae called out, sidestepping a dried-up strawberry milk carton and wrappers of Pocky and Choco Edo Pies. “Gin-san! Can you turn the water off for a second – ”
“And for tonight, we’ll have a nice flurry of snow up north!”
“Gin-san!” The mist got thicker by the time she was near the glass walls. She had to tip-toe to avoid stepping on an open copy of Shounen Jump. “Gin-san, can you hear me?”
“Very nice and romantic, especially for Libras and Scorpios holed up in an exclusive onsen resort!”
Tae paused to wonder if what she was hearing was right, but then she had Gin to find. This hotel needed to adjust its exhaust abilities immediately. The air was nearly white the closer she got to the onsen.
“Gin-san!”
“Remember, don’t stay in the bath too long, or your hands will turn into prunes!”
Finally, she found the glass door leading to the overlooking bath. Tae slid it open and a fat cloud of white mist billowed out, revealing Gintoki soaking in the tub, naked, his back towards her.
Suddenly, Tae found no will to speak. There was something somber about seeing Gin alone in the bath, shoulders slack, silent. The mist swirled around him lazily, adding to the air of mystery that he had carried ever since he returned. Gone was the idiot that dragged her brother into all sorts of trouble. With a tinge of sadness, Tae felt like she was looking at a different person.
Gin-san…
He didn’t stir when she opened the door, nor when she entered. He kept his head bowed.
Tae didn’t know why, but even if her feet were getting damp from the wet bathroom floor, she kept going. One soft step. Two. The nearer she got, the sharper they became, and then they were everywhere, unable to be hide in the mist any longer.
They were on his arms, shoulders, waist, back. Every inch of his skin that she could see were peppered with traces of faded wounds. Lines from scratches, cuts from blades, marks from spears and weapons couldn’t even name…seeing them up close sent shivers down her spine. It wasn’t the first time she had seen him naked like this, no. But it was the first time that she was able to let the sight of it – of him - sink in.
“Oy, if you’re going to sneak up on me like a pervert, at least do it well.”
Tae blinked. She thought she had been quiet.
“I was just worried. You…might have passed out, and the room was already filled with mist and – ”
“I won’t pass out,” Gintoki replied. His voice was deep and unanimated. It bothered her. “Ketsuno Ana’s still doing the forecast for tomorrow.”
A pregnant pause hung over them. Barred by the spa’s glass walls, Ketsuno Ana’s weather predictions became muffled mumblings. The near silence of the onsen amplified every noise, so much that Tae felt like she could hear everything. Her heartbeat. His breathing. The calm bubbling of the hot spring water that was being piped into the depressed tub before her. Somehow, everything was more noticeable, as if her senses were on overdrive. Even the sight of Gin’s bare back seemed so vivid - too vivid. The pink line the ledge of the tub made against his skin, alive, compared to the ghostly whites and faded tans of his scars.
“So many,” she said. She found herself kneeling behind him, close enough that she could study every mark.
Gin only returned a low ‘hmm’ and nodded. It took a while before he gave a real reply.
“They’re nothing. Sakamoto and Kondou, they’ve been hurt way worse.”
She ignored him.
“I never knew you had this much.” She wanted to stop herself from talking, but something about the mist pulled whatever she thought out of her. “I never noticed.”
He gave a dry chuckle. “We don’t really get naked with each other now, do we?”
Tae frowned. Despite the laugh, this Gintoki she was talking to – a Gintoki who didn’t even turn to look at her – was definitely stranger than normal.
“No, we don’t. Should we?” she asked, raising an eyebrow in half-jest, knowing he couldn’t see it.
He lifted his head but still didn’t turn back. “Hmm…maybe we should.”
Another pause. She didn’t move from her spot even if her yukata was slowly soaking up the water from the floor. Her wet feet were getting uncomfortable. While she knew it was wrong, she was entranced by it, the sight of his back, this…map she had discovered. A map whose every landmark was made with pain and blood and violence. She wanted to ask questions, like his worst wound or his favorite one, if he ever had one. But the longer she looked at it, the heavier her chest felt.
“I saw you, once,” she murmured. She didn’t know what she was doing, but she did it anyway. “Naked.” She reached across her and traced her fingertips across his shoulder, feeling the faint ridges of his scars. Along his arm, well into the hand submerged in water, she saw faint hints of more injuries.
“I like me some public exhibition from time to time.” No matter how much he tried to kid, his voice betrayed him.
Tae felt her throat dry up. She pressed her fingers against a particularly long gash down his shoulder blade. “I had to dress you up after that incident, when you went after that stupid sword.”
“Ah.”
The water bubbled softly as silence fell between them again. Tae couldn’t speak. She inwardly wondered if the water could cover up the sound of a sob. Her eyes were watering at a rapid pace, blurring Gin from her view.
The multitude of scars spoke volumes to her. It hurt to see his pain, guilt, and sacrifice etched into every wound, every mark proof of all the things he left unsaid. Every bruise healed was a burden he carried, and most were burdens he had no business carrying. How often had he gone out of his way to injure himself so badly for people he barely knew? On her account, she was sure she her fingers weren’t enough to count them. Saving her from that sky cabaret, drilling sense into her when she almost married Kyuubei, saving Kabuki-cho – even Edo - on various occasions, buying time even for her first love. He had done countless others service, shouldered their worries, and solved problems with gritted teeth, all with this broken, battered body. A body that seemed to want nothing in return.
“Hey.”
Oh no. Onsen baths weren’t good in hiding tears, after all.
“Otae-chan –”
“I – ” Tae started. Upon seeing him try to look back at her, she swallowed an upcoming sob and held his head so he could continue looking at the view. She wished the snowflakes would keep his attention.
“I don’t know if anybody has ever said it, but…” her voice came out small, but it was the best she could do. “You’ve been through so much. For us. Thank you, Gin-san.”
She let go of his head. He didn’t bother to look at her; he only sank deeper into the bath.
-
She had left him in the tub. As Gin dried himself inside, she changed into a new yukata and dove under the sheets. Never mind that her feet were still uncomfortable and cold. She immediately curled into a ball, lying on her side. She screwed her eyed shut; she didn’t know how to face Gin after saying something so embarrassing and personal.
She tried to fall asleep, but it was hard with Gin rustling about. He shut off the TV and turned off the lights, and before she knew it, he had crawled onto the futon beside her.
“You know what my favorite injury is?”
Tae pursed her lips together and didn’t reply.
“Don’t pretend you’re sleeping, you gorilla woman.”
“…fine. What is it?”
“This.”
Suddenly, he reached over and took her hand. He pulled on it, guiding it with his own under the collar of his yukata until her fingertips were on a sizeable scar on his shoulder. He kept her hand on that spot, eyes now trained on hers as they faced each other. He waited. As she pressed her hand on his skin, on a scar that was on its way to fading, a warmth bloomed in her chest. She knew that wound, and she had hated it. She had hated how Shinpachi had carried him in broken and bloody. She hated how it took him so long to recover. She hated how he seemingly ignored that wound she had lovingly dressed and still went on to fight.
But as she traced its remnants, eyes boring into his, she knew it was one of the things she also loved most about him.
Tae found her lips breaking into a smile. He grinned back.
“Wonderful choice,” she said softly. “I really hate that wound.”
He laughed. An honest, good, rare, hearty laugh, a laugh that brightened his dead fish eyes and made the moonlight dance in his hair. She chuckled and tightened her hold on his hand in return.
Whatever she had left unsaid, she hoped her touch could say in her stead.
Welcome home, Gin-san.
“Ew, Gin-san, your hands feel like prunes.”
“Mine are smooth baby grapes compared to yours. Just wait when you turn sixty.”
-
A/N: Here’s the other fanfic I was talking about. Haha! The last GinTae plot bunny I have – unless Sorachi gives us more clues…? Hahaha.
I initially was intrigued at the thought of Gin having scars, being inspired by Noda Satoru’s Sugimoto Saichi from Golden Kamuy having a scar-ridden body. I thought, with all the fighting Gin went through, it’s impossible he doesn’t have some, right? And then I wondered what situation would necessitate Tae seeing Gin naked (aside from lemony services haha) and here we are.
An angstier, more dramatic take compared to Under Cover, but it was fun to write.
Expect sneaky rewrites here and there. Haha!

How would gin and hijikata react seeing the older sister of his s/o being abusive to her. My sister is doing my life imposible and I need my faves to comfort me somehow ;---; (hope my english is fine :c) also headcanons are finee ^^ love ur writing and good to see you back (i have notifications on for your blog yaaaay)
Gintoki
Intereupts you two asap and stands in front of you. His eyes are fierce and he spits venom when he commands them to get the hell out of here unless they want a beating up.
He takes your hand and holds it tight enough to be a bit painful and walks you into a nice Family Market. He feels guilty for only knowing about this when he happened to be around to witness it.
For now all he wants is for you to regain your happiness and live life normally, he probably takes you along to his evening strolls and gives you the space you need for yourself at the Yorozuya residence
he’ll be a bit more lovey-dovey for you for the next days. Cuddling under the futon, eating pancakes (if his wallet allows it!) for breakfast and generally pampering you with physical affection and compliments
if you decide to go back to your sister’s place, he makes sure to ‘scare’ your sister away a bit (whatever he did, he doesn’t tell you) so she doesn’t even think of speaking to you
“Oi. Whatever that bitch tells you, don’t believe it. Someone with a rotten soul like that couldn’t begin to understand what a beautiful person you are.
People like that never learn to better themselves, so whenever you need it, remember that Yorozuya Gin-chan’s door is always open for you.”
Hijikata
Hijikata runs over immediately and pushes you behind him. The next second Okita has already put handcuffs on her before Hijikata can even say anything.
he lits his cigarette after making sure you’re unharmed and asks you about what caused this and if it happens frequently, he’s ashamed to be this uninformed about his s/o’s family life.
the two of you get take out ramen and watch PreCure in his room. He intends to cheer you up, but his mind is elsewhere. Honestly, if only your sister turned out to be a Joui activist, that’d make things a lot easier.
it’s not like he can keep you here at Shinsengumi headquarters forever or just send you off to a hotel, it wouldn’t solve the problem either. For now Hijikata decides to overcome his shyness and show you just how much you’re loved
despite putting out a futon for you next to his, Hijikata tightly keeps you in his arms, stroking your hair and kissing your forehead.
“You can stay here until I’ve taken care of things. … The last thing I want is for you to lose that stupidly pretty smile of yours.
If that happens, forget being a police officer, I couldn’t even call myself a man anymore. So you don’t worry about anything, got it?”
for now, he’ll make his presence as Shinsengumi vice-commander clear to your sister and help you to stand on your own legs as soon as you can. He can’t sleep well if you still are around someone that’s obviously not good for you

Pics from my 2nd and 3rd visit to the Gintama x Prince Hotel Restaurant Collab 🥰
For my 2nd visit, I celebrated Gin-chan's bday XD Btw, they changed the 順番 of the BIG acrylic stands.. I wonder why? XD
I ordered Kagura-chan's oyakodon, Shinpachi's drink, and Gin-chan's special birthday cake 🎂🥰
Third time I went with a friend (after lining up for and purchasing the Donki goods lol) we reserved the private tatami room ☺️
I ordered the Shinsengumi platter, Sougo ginger ale, and Gin-chan parfait. 🥰
Shinsengumi platter was so tiny (it was also something that I could cook by myself tbh)
I honestly preferred the Yorozuya cha-han I ordered (while being expensive as well) during my 1st visit...
Everything in this collab is so expensive tbh. Food portions were small but prices ranged from 2000-3000JPY 😓 the Gin-chan birthday cake was 3000JPY; it was tiny and just full of icing 😨
(Out of all the Gintama cafe/food collabs I've gone to, I would say Capcom cafes collabs were the best, especially the 2nd one during the end of 2021~)
The ambiance is good tho and the BIG acrylic stands are a sight to behold -i want to steal one of the Gin-chans- Also the merch are pretty affordable XD
Oh yeah, about the Don Quijote merch, they started selling those on Oct 14 10:00. By 10:30, most of the goods got sold out already, it was insane 🤣🤣 (I lined up like around 9:50 I was already 14th in line... O.O) I really wanted the chibi acrylics 😭😭😭
Anyway, good thing all of the products are up for post event mail order, so I can still get the chibi ones!!
Mail order link at Medicos: https://medicos-e-shop.net/products/list?category_id=1102&pageno=1

Episode 5 - Lesson 5 to 6
This episode features the first appearance by the Shinsengumi (I know, there’s episodes 1-2 but I’ll talk about them another day on account of their anime-only status and the particularly jarring moment where Kondo calls Hijikata by his family name!!)
Sougo and Hijikata’s first appearances
Notes:
In the manga, Yamazaki, Hijikata and Sougo first appear, whilst Kondo is also featured briefly in the anime as Hijikata meets him to report on the situation.
Another additional scene has Yamazaki, out in full badminton kit, being mistaken for being a peeping tom.
Harada appears in the anime but is not named (captain’s uniform).
The manga shows the guard of Hijikata’s sword (this one was too pretty for him, the guard of the cursed sword he eventually comes to own is a bit more badass!)
The building where Katsura holes the Yorozuya up in after they accidentally bomb the embassy is the ‘Hotel Ikedaya’, a reference to the Ikedaya incident.
Hijikata calls Sougo “Okita” in both versions.
This story features Hijikata and Gintoki’s first run-in which, to Hijikata’s chagrin a few episodes later, Gintoki has no memory of despite being almost run through by Hijikata’s sword. The anime fight lasts longer than the manga, which after the initial trading of insults has occurred is cut off by Sougo’s bazooka.
This is also Sougo’s first shown attempt on Hijikata’s life.
The end of the anime features Hijikata and Sougo arriving just in time for their drama to air only for it to be interrupted by a breaking news report of the incident they were just involved in. Which they are decidedly unimpressed by.

thank you for the good gintae food in 2022. after all the weird pushing the anime did for gin//tsu and gave everyone the wrong idea. it is nice to see someone talk about that more
Hahahahah You’re welcome anon! Tbf it wasn’t just Gi/nTs/u that was heavily pushed by the anime. Ky/uuTa/e, Ko/nTa/e and Hi/jiGi/n were notoriously promoted too. There’s really nothing we can do abt it since those 4 are the cash cows of gintama merchandising. Esp Hi/jiGi/n which brings in all the cash.
The problem with the Ky/uuT/ae and Gi/nTs/u pushing was that the anime added/disregarded characterization of Tsukuyo and Kyuubei which weren’t originally portrayed in the manga.
It’s even worse when the anime push aside Otae’s overall importance in Shinpachi / Gintoki / Yorozuya story in favor of giving more light to the KyT and GnTs dynamics.
It’s Sunrise’s fault really. Pre-kyuubei and pre-tsukuyo, they established Otae as the main girl yet gave her annoying attributes like being too violent and psycho out of nowhere. This resulted in a disconnect of Otae characterization in early arcs in comparison to later arcs (like Enchousen). In my opinion, Sunrise (or BNP, idk) had already given up on the GinTae by then. You can see that in how they make it a point to portray Gintoki and Otae as far apart as possible whenever they could (love chorris, etc.)
Even in S1 up to S2 they had cut out some Otae/Yorozuya scenes to make it seem that gntk’s treatment of otae was platonic at best. examples below:
not showing that Otae and Kagura were riding with gntk on his vespa in taka-chin gang arc.
The rotating bed (like i get being in a love hotel would draw a lot of questions but they already showed Shinpachi who is a minor almost getting banged by a catgirl, like bruh)
Binbokusai accusing gntk of being in love with otae
When the other 2 finally appeared, they then constantly paired otae with kyuubei esp in openings. Also I learned that they added more flair to tsukuyo’s scenes in yif and rs, which i prolly need to look into. I'm not really against it tbh but if they really adapted those 2 arcs 100% faithfully (yknow when compared to impt otae+yrzy manga scenes which are always removed from anime) then it shows who the anime producers’ fave girl actually is. I already have a lot of examples from Kintama arc if anyone is wondering why i'm singling tsukuyo out of everyone.
Ofc all these are just naive assumptions on my part. But it's the direction my mind immediately went to especially since I have gained a rather intimate knowledge of Otae's role in the manga. I can't help but be salty that her anime portrayal is off and that I keep seeing posts about how Otae characterization is inconsistent (which is a wrong assumption by the way because even I can tell that Sorachi stood by her no matter what).
I’m thankful that u guys read my posts tbh. This is just the result of my current Otae-obssessed mind that seek to give her justice and more love 😤

Idiots in Love
Rating: T
Pairing: Sakamoto Tatsuma/Mutsu; SakaMutsu Published: 02/20/2017 at AO3 and FF.net Chapter: 4/?
Summary: An idiotic drama ensues when two grown adults chose to hide their feelings in fear of rejection. One hell of a cliché I-am-afraid-to-lose-you-in-my-life-so-I-kept-my-feelings-a-secret love story featuring our favorite Kaientai duo in AU setting.
Chapter 4
The weekday had come and gone like a breeze. Friday night was almost over, but our female protagonist was still up packing for the weekend trip to the beach.
The beach, oh boy, best place ever…not. It was definitely the worst place to be especially for somebody who is highly sensitive to sunlight. Call her a vampire or freak. She would rather stay under the shade instead of leaving herself exposed and susceptible to horrible skin burns. After all, it was not her fault, it just runs in her genes.
Whatever made her agree to Sakamoto’s Yorozuya buddy was beyond her. She justified it as the silver perm being an annoyingly convincing negotiator. However, Mutsu could have turned the tides and made him accept her ‘no’ as the final answer. Whatever happened to her negotiating prowess? It seemed the negotiator got schooled by the silver perm head’s persuasiveness. Shame on her. Sakamoto would be disappointed if he ever hears about it. But when did she start caring about people’s opinions, let alone that shaggy-haired boss of hers?
Mutsu sighed as her mental check list deemed everything to be in order. Paperwork? Check. Clothes and the essentials in her overnight bag? Check. Sanity still intact? Check.
After double checking that everything was in order, Mutsu placed her overnight bag by the bedroom door, then made a beeline to the futon she pulled out earlier. She promptly plopped down and buried herself between the sheets. With eyes closed, she could only hear her ragged breathing and the beating of her racing heart. She was nervous about something, she could clearly tell. This feeling she was currently experiencing could probably be chalked up to this little outing of theirs. Besides, it has been a while since she went out of town to loosen up. It is laughable how anxious she is for something that’s supposed to be relaxing. You cannot blame her restlessness especially considering the fact that she would be miles away from the office with zero control over work in the office. What if somebody called over urgent matter while she was away? No. Calm down. She had given every client her business card. They would surely call her mobile number, right? RIGHT???
Overthinking would not help she told herself. Mutsu ran a hand over her light brown locks and tugged a little while trying to sooth herself from those wild thoughts. Not good. She would end up tossing and turning the whole night if she keeps this up. Maybe she should try counting sheep then. One sheep. Two sheep. Three sheep. Four…five…six…sheep. She was starting to feel a little sleepy now. “Sheep have really fluffy hair just like Sakamoto”, she mused. “His hair’s real fluffy especially when it’s humid out.”
AHAHAHAHA! AHA! AHAHAHAHA!
Shut up, Sakamoto. I’m trying to sleep here.
AHAHAHAHA! AHA! AHAHAHAHA!
Goddammit! Get out! Stay out of my dreams!
Her hazel eyes scanned the room for an intruder but found none. She pinched the bridge of her nose. It was really just a dream. A freaking nightmare she would say so herself. She had been having these delusions almost every night and that shaggy-haired goofball would always be in it. Different situations, always the same annoyingly reassuring laugh. She hugged herself just like any other night because of the tightness she feels in her chest. It ached just enough to leave a certain feeling of emptiness within her. A void that could possibly be filled if she has the courage to admit that maybe she might be harboring feelings for that sunglasses-wearing blockhead. She smiled bitterly to herself. This is going to be a long night.
The familiar chiming of the doorbell rang to reveal the usual bored looking Sakata Gintoki. “Yo. The rental bus will be here in 10 minutes so get your stuff ready, alright? Gotta hit the road on time.” He added and started down the steps. “We’ll be waiting for you downstairs.”
Gintoki was surprisingly early for the trip. Sakamoto did not expect his buddy to take this favor too seriously. The guy even went as far as waking him up via phone call that morning aside from the planning the trip, taking care of hotel and travel reservations. Who knew Yorozuya would actually come in handy? The brunette must say his silver haired friend had done a good job in the preparations and felt a little proud. Odd Jobs might encounter disasters here and there whilst performing their assignment, but their recent works have proven otherwise.
He was beaming as he descended the steps, overnight bag in hand, and about to join the Yorozuya leader. Tatsuma was expecting to see the foreigner kid and glasses boy, the interns, as Gintoki calls them but lo and behold, more people! His jaw dropped at the unexpected number of people waiting for the bus. He face palmed. WE. BUS. He was in too good of a mood that morning and subsequently overlooked how they have rented a bus instead of a van. Sakamoto looked up and spotted a familiar back, and another one here, also there. He paled as he imagined his impending doom aka the total bill as cold sweat beaded at his forehead.
“Sakamoto-san!” a feminine voice squealed beside him which temporarily snapped him out of his misery. He felt himself freeze as soon as he realized some of the Snack Smile girls will be joining their escapade. “So generous of you to invite us! Too bad Oryo-chan can’t come. She called in sick this morning.”
“OYYY, EVERYBODY! BUS IS HERE! GRAB YOUR BAGS AND GET ON THE BUS NOW, ‘KAY?” That was without a doubt that red-head foreigner intern on the loudspeaker. She stood by the bus parked on the street corner near the main road, waving her free hand for the people to get their attention (as if the loudspeaker was not enough). On the other hand, the glasses kid was guiding the others loitering at the other end of the street.
Tatsuma reached in his bag for his sunglasses but was startled by the view once he put it on. Mutsu was standing in front of him unmoving, bag in hand. He froze there not saying a word, eye to eye with his lady love. He cringed. There is no way he can call her that. Not when he was too afraid to even say a word to even anything at the moment. He forced himself to utter a single word but was cut off by the razor-tongued woman. “Oi, Sakamoto. Quit spacing out and let’s go. The bus is already filling up.”
“Y-yeah. Coming.” He nervously blurted out, following her trail.
As she turned her back on him, Mutsu sighed, tightening her grip on the overnight bag. Acting all weird around her boss would not be of help now, would it? To add to that, her anxiety was getting worse. Having to spend the whole trip with him then throwing in a mix of personalities certainly does not help her case. Truthfully, she was starting to regret ever agreeing to this more and more by the minute. It was absolutely going to be a long ass weekend. She stopped in her tracks to take a breather. With eyes closed, she could feel her head begin to throb from the lack of sleep.
“I guess somebody did not sleep from excitement. AHAHAHAHA!” He flashed her a grin, whilst she composed herself from the sudden loud intrusion.
Blunt as always, Mutsu quickly retorted. “Look who’s talking, hiding his dark circles behind dark spectacles. Looks like a middle schooler a night before their excursion.” She delivered that line with a poker face, her expression unchanging despite her inner turmoil; it is hard not to smirk when Sakamoto looks flustered.
Looking towards the bus, she finds a rambunctious crowd trying to get on. Her brows furrowed. The journey might turn out to be comparable to that of a middle school class outing. May Kami have mercy on her sanity.
The bus ride was all the Kaientai second in command imagined it to be. People, namely the Yorozuya bunch, started singing karaoke and even standing on the aisle unfazed by the moving vehicle. Some were starting with their alcohol intakes early, popping beer cans one after the other. Among the throng of people were the Kiheitai members, who were actually the most behaved bunch with their leader taking a nap(How in the world can he even take a nap in this chaos?) while the subordinates played card games. Zura and Elizabeth were distracting themselves with a game of Uno and was already planning on even amusing themselves with a round of Jenga(How the fuck would they even play here???). On the other hand, the cabaret girls joined in on everyone's fun. They have scattered all over the place, blending in seamlessly and entertaining their chosen group.
That leaves her and Sakamoto sitting side by side at the back end of the bus, away from the brewing insanity at the front end of the vehicle. Mutsu cocked her head to the side, observing the brunette beside as he gaped at the current situation. She thinks he may have been expecting the hostess Oryo to come to the trip that was why he was uncharacteristically in low spirits. Tatsuma would probably have been nursing a beer can or even be singing his heart out on the karaoke, frolicking around with the cabaret girls within the confines of the bus. But no, here he sat beside her looking weirdly scandalized by their behavior.
Mutsu closed her hazel eyes and pinched the bridge of her nose. The headache is only getting worse from racking her brain for an explanation of the odd behavior by the man beside her. Good thing the driver announced that they will be at the resort in approximately 15 minutes. Locking herself in the hotel room and sleeping the whole morning was what she was planning on. A little peace and quiet would not hurt. Besides, socializing is the least of her strong points so it would be better if she stayed in.
Whose idea was it even to head to the beach during winter? Sure. Planning a beach trip in the dead of winter meant having the resort to yourself. The downside, however, is having to take a dip in freezing temperatures. Cloudy skies are also to be expected so sunbathing may not be possible. Weirdly enough, most of the crazy bunch quickly changed into their beach attire, not even batting an eyelash as they splashed and played amidst the chilly breeze.
Despite the non-present sun and its rays, Mutsu still chose to hole herself up in the hotel room and take a much-deserved nap. Socializing was not her forte anyway, so she thought it best to steer clear from the other participants of the trip. Best to keep it to herself than ending up accidentally insulting anyone with her anti-social tendencies.
What the Kaientai Vice President found when she reached the reserved hotel room made her look twice and question her state of sleeplessness. There were two twin sized beds; nobody has mentioned to her that she will be rooming with somebody else. So much for avoiding the crowd. She hopes she would not be sharing a room with one of the cabaret girls, not that she had anything against their group. She was just trying to dodge the awkward small talk that was all. The hazel eyed woman looked around for her roommate’s luggage but found none. Maybe there was a mistake in the room assigned to her but that was the least of her worries right now. She could really use a few hours of shut-eye to compensate for last night. Mutsu moved her things to one side and flopped to the nearest bed, promptly lulling herself to sleep.
That was how Sakamoto found her. Sprawled on the bed nearest the door, snoring softly as her chest rose up and down. “She looks less threatening this way”, Sakamoto thought to himself while setting his bag on the other side of the room. He hates to admit it but she looks cute like that, sleeping without a care. Most definitely a complete opposite of how she was in her waking moments. He debated on watching over her while she was asleep; he would probably get punched if she caught him observing her. Besides, it would be downright creepy to do that. No use to dampen the mood for anyone in this weekend getaway.
Tatsuma quickly changed into a Hawaiian floral-printed shirt and shorts, heading down to the beach to join everyone on their fun. There are plenty of chances to make a move on her within the duration of the outing. He wished Yorozuya had thought of clever tricks to help him finally land the girl of his dreams. After all, he had faith in their abilities…? Nerves started creeping though upon realizing what he signed up for. The Odd Jobs was not known for being discrete.
He could only pray Mutsu would never notice they are up to something.
Author’s Notes: Sigh. SakaMutsu deserves more love. But here I am procrastinating, even forgot to post Chap 4 here :)))

Hey ! I hope you're alright :) I wanted to ask you, do you have any headcanons about the Yorozuya Family ? I really love your art so I want to know
AAA HI PAL thank you, im doing good!! taking some time off to rest sldkfjs but yea, i do!! it’s been a while since i talked abt them but they have been in my thoughts constantly. my fam
they do movie nights every once in a while, no specific choice they just want to hang out and watch shit together
gin and pachi have arguments on old fashioned games and new games. always. kagura doesnt care
they dont have much money so they dont travel a lot, but they stroll around kabuki-chou as a habit
out of all the things in the apartment, meds and stuff are the only things that are always stocked up, and kagura and pachi believe its because gin always has hangovers. (gin doesn’t tell but every time one of them catches a cold he buys meds and tissues and tea and stocks it up)
ever since gin met them he only goes on one night stands outside of his apartment, on cheap hotels or motels or other places because hes so awkward about having to have The Sex Talk with either of them skgdjf
gin lets kagura color his old mangas (not the faves tho)
kaguras likes to do gin and pachi’s nails even if she misses it like half the time
shinpachi has never talked abt his parents with anyone else so whenever he talks abt his mom or dad with them he feels like he’s oversharing but gin and kagura assure him its okay
pachi helps kagura write letters for his dad and mom....
kagura and shinpachi sometimes wash gins clothes and buy new identical ones for him when hes being a greasy depressed mess and tell him to wear them as soon as he showers
sadaharu’s favourite napping place is 1. under kagura’s closet 2. near gin’s bed 3. behind the counter
#narumayo9145#ask#these are p general headcanons but i like them anyway boi#mine#please watch gintama#TY FOR THE ASK BTW i hope uve been well ey
