My TOP 10 Favorite K-Drama (part 3)

6. Princess Hours (2006)

Drama terjadul di list ini. Wkwkwkwk. Aku baca komiknya btw kalo drama ini, sebelum nonton dramanya. Dan emang sih ini drama beneran ngikutin alur komiknya (bahkan endingnya juga). Sebenernya kalo diinget-inget lagi, aku pas baca komiknya ngerasa gak puas banget sama komiknya. I mean,kalo udah sengsara-sengsara begitu, bagian happy nya banyakin kek. Eh, taunya dramanya ngikut rute itu. Buat ukuran sekarang, cerita ini nyebelin banget sebenernya. Wkwkwk. Tapi aku masukin karena ide ceritanya original banget.

Gimana kalo dinasti kerajaan korea masih eksis??

(lah, jadi inget The King Eternal Monarch)

Gimana kalo masih ada pangeran kerajaan Korea dan dia satu sekolah sama kamu?!!

(gak tau kenapa ini ide FF banget ya,dan bikin inget Drama Thailand The Shipper, wkwkwk) Seru kan idenya?

Heroine cerita ini, Shin Chae Kyung (diperankan oleh Yoon Eun Hye), adalah siswi jurusan seni biasa. Anaknya ceria, lumayan blak-blakan dan polos (atau bego?), kagak pinter-pinter amat di pelajaran, tapi loyal sama temen. Shin Chae Kyung satu sekolahan sama Pangeran Mahkota Kerajaan Korea, Lee Shin (WAW, SUPERIOR SEKALI NAMANYA) (diperankan oleh Ju Ji Hoon). Udah makanan sehari-hari banget buat Chae Kyung ngeliat si pangeran mahkota ini diteriakin siswi-siswi se-sekolahan, termasuk dua temen di gengnya yang bener-bener mengagumi pangeran mahkota, yang buat Chae Kyung gak gimana gimana banget itu.

Suatu hari Chae Kyung gak sengaja curi dengar kalo pangeran mahkota ngelamar primadona sekolah mereka, Min Hyo Rin (diperankan oleh Song Ji Hyo. Iya. Song Ji Hyo yang Running Man itu), penari balet berbakat yang dengan cepat menolak lamaran Pangeran Mahkota. Dasar si Chae Kyung ceroboh, waktu lagi nguping HP nya nyala tiba-tiba dengan ringtone heboh (tau lah, HP 2G dulu emang ada fitur silent?) dan dia pun ketauan. Tapi dianya kabur pas ditanyain sama Pangeran Mahkota.

Balik-balik ke rumah ngerasa campur aduk abis dilabrak sama Pangeran Mahkota (yang ngancem buat merahasiakan “obrolan” lamaran pernikahannya sama Min Hyo Rin tadi). Chae Kyung menemukan fakta bahwa dia bakal dijodohin sama pangeran mahkota berkat kakeknya yang temenan sama kakeknya pangeran. Awalnya Chae Kyung jelas gak mau, orang pangeran mahkota maunya nikah sama yang lain? da dia mah apa atuh??

Tapi keluarga nya punya utang banyak. Dan nikah dengan pangeran mahkota adalah satu-satunya solusi tepat saat itu buat menyelamatkan keluarganya. Jadilah Chae Kyung setuju nikah sama pangeran mahkota. Karena dia aslinya emang bukan keluarga bangsawan apa gimana gitu, ada banyak “penyesuaian” yang harus Chae Kyung lakukan selama hidup di istana.

Disisi lain, sepupunya pangeran mahkota, mantan(?) pangeran mahkota, Lee Yul (diperankan oleh Kim Jeong Hoon), balik ke korea setelah menjalani kehidupan pengasingan sama ibunya , terpesona sama keunikan Chae Kyung dan di satu titik berusaha merebut tahta dari tangan Lee Shin. Kelanjutannya gimana? Tonton sendiri aja, ya.

Karena ini drama lama, jadi harap maklum trope-trope drama lama kayak tokoh utama cowoknya nyebelin abis tapi tokoh utama ceweknya bego itu masih ada ya.

Jaman sekarang tokoh kayak Lee Shin gak mungkin jadi tokoh utama, deh. Wkwkwk.

Tapi buat masa itu, drama ini patut lah diperhitungkan. Seingetku drama ini juga yang melambungkan nama Yoon Eun Hye dan Ju Ji Hoon. Aktingnya Ju Ji Hoon emang agak kaku di beberapa bagian, tapi kupikir itu mungkin karena karakter nya Lee Shin itu EMANG gak make sense dari awal gitu, makanya mungkin agak susah emang untuk mengeluarkan “Lee Shin yang sebenernya”. Aku aja sepanjang drama sering banget mikir, Lee Shin tuh sebenernya maunya apa sih?? #esmosi

Tapi sebagaimana yang udah kubilang di awal, drama ini idenya original banget. dan tema fantasy nya tentang keluarga kerajaan Korea masih bertahta selayaknya keluarga kerajaan Inggris itu keren banget. buat jadi topik untuk lari dari kenyataan itu pas banget, btw. Apalagi, sudut pandangnya tuh kebanyakan dari Chae Kyung (well, komiknya emang gitu, sih) yang emang bikin ini genrenya full komedi romantis juga. Walaupun,karena ini drama lama, jadinya cinta segi empat masih eksis, dan Chae Kyung nya entah polos entah bego, kayak ngasih harapan ke second lead dari awal, jadilah masalah cintanya runyam.

Yang keren juga dari drama ini adalah baju-baju yang dipake Chae-Kyung sepanjang drama, semuanya lucuuuu… (kecuali satu deng, baju dia waktu wawancara terakhir barengan pangeran mahkota dan ngaku hamil itu aneh banget). Mungkin karena dia juga anak sekolah seni, ya. Jadi diceritainnya emang Chae Kyung bisa jahit, dan sedikit bisa modifikasi baju dan pinter padu padan gitu. Entah dari episode berapa, lupa, pokoknya pas pangeran mahkota juga mulai punya perasaan sama Chae Kyung, baju mereka selalu “gak sengaja” couple-an. Kayak warna dasi nya pangeran sama kayak warna blouse nya Chae Kyung, atau bajunya mereka setema warna biru-putih. Yang gitu-gitu deh.

Sekali lagi ya, karena ini drama lama, konflik salah paham nya emang agak-agak bikin : ya ampun! Tinggal ngomong!! Susah amat!!! AAARRGHHH! #geregetan

Bikin stress sendiri lah intinya. Aku ada tuh mikir emang ni drama gak ada yang mau remake apa?? Ngeliat para pemerannya pake HP 2G (yang pada masa itu adalah teknologi termutakhir) dan laptop yang masih tebel banget itu jadi geregetan rasanya. Tapi mungkin kalo sekarang mah bisa ngeliat drama The King Eternal Monarch aja kali ya, kalo mau liat kerajaan korea dalam setting paling modern.

OST nya jelas yang paling terngiang-ngiang adalah Perhaps Love, I’m a Fool sama Parrot. Perhaps Love itu sering dipake di adegan-adegan so sweet (kayak pas mereka nge date di pantai. Huhuhuhuhuu.. kenapa scene kayak gitu cuman ada satuuu). Yang I’m a Fool itu lagu yang sering dipake kalo kesalahpahamannya sudah teruraikan, wkwkwk. Kalo Parrot tuh lagu yang dipake kalo lagi scene nyesel-nyesel sendirian gitu. Sama jelas yang paling berkesan adalah si intrumen yang di awal pas logo judul drama nya muncul itu.

Karena mereka ceritanya masih SMA, jadi emang pasangan ini aslinya berantem mulu, kalo ketemu kagak pernah ngomong baek-baek.

Lee Shin nya juga tsundere gitu, si Chae Kyung nya bego/polos, kan mblunder jadinya. Sering sih mulai ngomong baik-baik dari hati ke hati, eh, Shin nya ditelepon sama Min Hyo Rin. Nyebelin kan?? Iya, senyebelin itu drama nya. Se-nyebelin itu tapi tetep aku masukin list. Haha.

Tapi buat yang kangen masa lalu, boleh lah coba nonton ini. Siap-siap kena second lead syndrome buat yang biasa kena (wkwk) dan siap-siap angkat alis kalo aneh sama ceritanya. Aku tetep nangis kok tapi, terutama pas merekanya dipisahkan (jiaahh, baper asli disitu. Mereka masih muda tapi masalah cinta nya berat banget gitu loh). Sekali lagi, aku gak sreg sama endingnya. Tapi seenggaknya masih happy ending lah ya, walaupun kurang puas aja. Wkwkwk. Walaupun jujur, kalo aku jadi yang nulis,aku juga mungkin bakal bingung mau ending nya digimanain, wkwkwk..

5. Still 17 (30 but 17) (2018)

Drama ini adalah salah satu drama underrated yang jarang orang tengok (di base yang aku follow aja dikit yang bahas ini). Drama ini bagian fantasy nya itu menurutku yang si ceweknya koma 13 tahun. Aku gak tau sih di dunia nyata ada apa nggak. Tapi serem gak tuh, koma nya 13 tahun??

Judulnya tuh Still 17 atau 30 but 17 karena awal mula ceritanya dari situ. Tentang gimana ceweknya yang aslinya udah 30 tahun, tapi karena koma 13 tahun masih ngerasa dirinya 17 tahun. cara dia menghadapi dunia yang udah beda banget dari apa yang dia tahu adalah fokus utama drama ini.

Drama ini dimulainya emang agak aneh tapi. Kalo bosen sama episode 1 nya, tolong lanjutkan ke episode 2 nya, baru emang kerasa seru di episode 2 nya soalnya. Emang butuh 2 episode biar kita bisa paham sepenuhnya apa yang sebenernya terjadi.

Wah, aku mau panjang-panjang nulis alurnya, tapi dipikir-pikir kepanjangan kayaknya jadinya.

Intinya, tokoh utama cowok kita, Gong Woo Jin (diperankan oleh Yang Se Jong), yang seorang desainer interior berusia 30 tahun, terjebak di masa lalu karena suatu hal. Dipertemukan oleh nasib dengan cewek bernama Woo Seo Ri (diperankan oleh Shin Hye Sun), yang koma selama 13 tahun. Woo Seo Ri ini walaupun seumuran sama Gong Woo Jin, tapi karena mentalnya masih 17 tahun, jadi lebih akur sama keponakan nya, Yoo Chan (yang diperankan oleh Ahn Yeo Seop), seorang siswa SMA yang juga atlit dayung.

Woo Seo Ri nyasar ke rumahnya Gong Woo Jin karena itu rumah dulunya rumahnya dia. Woo Seo Ri sendiri bisa koma selama 13 tahun karena kecelakaan bus (little did they know, this accident is playing a very big part in their life). Dengan pengetahuannya Woo Seo Ri tentang rumahnya itu, Woo Seo Ri bisa tinggal di kamar rahasia di bawah tangga yang emang dirancang buat tempat dia latihan biola. Woo Seo Ri pun selanjutnya berusaha keras agak bisa hidup normal kembali.

Di episode 1 dan 2 kita diajak memahami apa yang sebenarnya terjadi, dan sejujurnya menurutku, ending episode 2 tuh udah lumayan bikin penasaranlah, apa yang bakal terjadi selanjutnya. Ending episode 4 lebih-lebih lagi coy. Inget banget aku, karena ini tipenya konfliknya penyelesaiannya diselesein satu-satu, tiap episode dari episode 6 sampai tamat kayaknya aku nangis mulu, deh. Sedih soalnya. Hikes.

Dari semua drama di list ini, mungkin drama ini yang paling “slow burn” dan paling melankolis. Dikit-dikit banget kita dikasih kepingan-kepingan puzzle nya. Tapi seru sih.. mana waktu itu aku ngikutin ini on going dan itu tuh barengan sama Asian Games, jadilah beberapa episode suka ada yang ditunda gara-gara SBS nya nayangin pertandingan Asian Games. Makin stress gak tuh, nungguinnya??

Drama ini tuh pake format drama lama, dimana episode awal jelas dibuka sama pemeran-pemeran remaja nya. Baru dilanjutin sama pemeran-pemeran dewasanya. Walaupun banyak flash back nya sih nanti (karena kepingan-kepingan puzzle nya itu), tapi itu bener-bener memuaskan banget gitu, kok, rasanya. Chemistry antar pemain di drama ini tuh keren banget pokoknya.

Aku sendiri kepincut banget sama chemistry aktor remajanya, gak pernah ketemu samsek kecuali ngobrol dikit gitu, tapi bisa berasa kalo mereka tuh cocok banget?? Aku sampe sekarang masih suka berharap mereka bakal berpasangan lagi di drama lain sebenernya. Wkwkwkwk.

OST yang paling berkesan di drama ini buat aku tuh SEMUANYA. (for real this time). OST part. 1 nya diisi oleh Every Single Day. Udah lama gak dengerin Every Single Day ngisi drama (terakhir sebelum ini aku cuman tau dia ngisi Jugglers), dan buat drama ini gak mengecewakan lah. Lagu-lagu di drama ini cocok banget buat mewek terutama lagunya Hyorin_Just Stay sama Lucia_Tears in My Heart. Inget banget aku di episode 27-28 (episode 14) aku nangis kejer sambil terharu-sambil senyum-tapi nangis (Gimana coba itu??) gara-gara scene terakhir di episode itu. Udah gitu abis itu sambung minggu depan. Kan ngeseliiiinnnn..

Huft. The point is, that is really a very good cry. (lebay, ro. Bodo lah ya)

Ini ringan banget ya, drama nya. Riiingaaaannn banget, kayak bulu, kayak kapas. Nonton seharian mungkin gak kerasa. Masih sering aku ulang-ulang juga kok. Karena lucu juga soalnya. Wkwkwk.

king ban. younger half brother of sang and the current ruler. older brother of luda. married to queen sun. murdered his father and pinned it on his brother so he could take the thrown for himself. has three wives but outside of his wives MOST of his lovers are male. stabbed is brother a bunch of times and left him for dead in the woods. e v i l. he’s prince zuko without the redemption arc. no redemption arc for him! he’s an asshole. age thirty. fc: hong jong hyun

prince sang, also called king sang by his followers. the older half brother of ban and the rightful king. older half brother of luda. was engaged to sun before YA KNOW his brother tried to kill him and married her instead. was left for dead in the woods where geon found him and spent years nursing him back to help. started a rebellion to get his throne back and return the kingdom back to peaceful times. his main driving force is getting his brother off the throne because he’s e v i l (did i mention ban is evil yet??). age thirty. fc: im siwan

queen sun. wife of ban, former fiance of sang. older sister of rin. is basically pulling a sansa stark and playing everyone. has convinced her husband that she’s totally loyal to him. spoiler alert she’s not. she’s not sure if the rumors that sang is alive and leading the rebellion are true but she never lost faith in him or their love and so to help she’s basically trained a secret army of palace women into being warriors and assassins. and before you ask the reason she hasn’t killed ban yet is because there’s no heir to take his place yet OKAY she’s working on it! sassy. a feminist. queen. i love her. age: twenty-eight. fc: kang hanna

rin. younger brother of sun and a member of the palace guard. like his sister, rin is still fiercely loyal to king sang. honestly if it wasn’t for his desire to protect sun he would have run away and joined the rebellion by now. is the definition of looks like he can kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll. although don’t be fooled boy is deadly with a sword. constantly his to stop himself from just lopping ban’s head off every time he opens his mouth. a protective boy who loves his mom and his sister and believes the word can be a better place if only everyone would calm down for like two seconds. age twenty-five.

princess luda. younger sister of ban and younger half sister of sang. was just a child when the rebellion happened and ban has kind of warped her memory of all it. while she outwardly believes ban’s story that sang killed the former king she’s started to have doubts about it. was very sickly as a child and still has major health issues so she has not been out of the palace more than a handful of times in her life. might be a bit bratty and spoiled but she’s getting there. is secretly learning things from queen sun that she is definitely not supposed to be learning. age twenty. fc: gong seung yeon

daehwi. the son of one of king ban’s royal advisors and also ban’s former lover. emphasis on F O R M E R lover. after rumors spread throughout the palace that the royal advisors and lords and other angry old men where trying to find evidence of ban’s affair with men he turned on daehwi and publicly punished and humiliated him before banishing him from the palace, leaving daehwi deeply broken. he wandered aimlessly for a time before he ended up joining sang’s rebellion. while sang welcomes daewhi, other members of the rebellion are still hostile towards him. age twenty-five. fc: cho yoon woo

jeonghee. a former lady of queen sun’s who was also one of king ban’s concubines (long story). she fled the palace after she found out she was pregnant with the king’s child and sought asylum with sang and the rebels where she gave birth to her son eun who’s six years old now. much like won, she does not partake in a lot of the fighting but often assists won in surgeries and healing. age twenty-five. fc: shin se kyung

ara. a member of the rebellion. the daughter of a blacksmith who always wanted to change the world. though her father was too old and weak to join the rebellion, ara went after he encouraged her to make a difference. she is fiercely loyal to king sang to the point where most people think she’s in love with him despite being the worlds biggest lesbian. badass archer warrior woman whom i love. age twenty-six. fc: seo ye ji

jinwon, usually just called sook. the older brother of sook and the rebellion’s medic. suffers from a serious case of nightmares thanks to the traumatic childhood he shares with his sister. is actually a pacifist and stays out of the fighting is probably the only member of the rebellion who’s never killed anyone. has literally brought everyone back from the broink of death at least twice. let him rest please. age twenty-four. fc: yoo seung ho

jinsook, usually just called sook. the younger sister of won. has a deeply DEEPLY traumitizing past that i will only tell you about if you ask but basically she’s got a bone to pick with king ban and his soldiers. her father was executed on the same night that ban killed the king and took the throne. is the youngest warrior in the rebellion. actual human version of the (ง •̀_•́)ง face. age nineteen. fc: z.hera

hyoseop. a former scholar who fled from ban’s rule after his betrayal of sang. his wife was murdered by royal soldiers after refusing to house them and he hid himself in the woods for many years, becoming the source of many stories about a mean wizard who lived in the deep, deep woods. was pulled into sang’s rebellion after realizing he had a chance to avenge his wife’s death. age thirty-two. fc: yoon shi yoon

saebyeol. one of queen sun’s lady and the commander of her secret group of warriors and assassins. she’s also called the spider and is responsible for the deaths of several high ranking officials although of course no one knows that saebyeol is the spider because she wears a mask. is rolling her eyes anytime a man is speaking. generally does no speak which has led most people to believe she is simple minded. age twenty-nine. fc: han yeri

geon. older brother of hae, jung and yoo. the son a high ranking official. after his father was killed, geon left home at seventeen to join the rebellion only for his whole family to be taken captive as revenge. a very skilled archer and is sort of considered the rebellion’s secret weapon. sad angsty boy who just wants to save his family. and also maybe shoot a few royal soldiers. age twenty-two. fc: kwak dong yeon

hae. younger sister of geon and the older sister of jung and yoo. being held captive because of her brother’s allegiance to the rebellion. queen sun’s protege. she uses her beauty and innocent naivity to trick people into thinking she’s helpless when she’s not. is really tired of ban and his bullshit and really wants someone to just stab him. age nineteen. fc: kim yoo jung.

jung. the younger brother of geon and hae and the twin brother of yoo. being held captive by the king because of his brother’s allegiance to the rebellion. angsty and angry and general wants to fight everyone but at his core is just scared of losing everyone and everything someone give him a hug. age sixteen. fc: nam dae reum.

yoo. the younger sister of geon and hae and the twin sister of jung. being held captive by the king because of her brother’s allegiance to the rebellion. works as an atendant to princess luda but is a sneaky little thing and likes to hide in closets and eavesdrop on people. age sixteen. fc: kim saeron.

2017 K Drama Journey

It was that one night, while scrolling through my facebook feed that I came across this short clip from Doctors wherein Park Shin Hye is beating up the gangsters in the ER. I got curious so I decided to find a copy of it and try watching a K Drama. I thought, why not give it a try? It was during those times that I was recovering from my PUD and I just resigned from my job and I really want to watch a good tv series and K Dramas are really popular nowadays so I decided to give it a try and, I wasn’t disappointed. K Dramas, as cliché as it may sound, changed my life. Every show I’ve watched was a roller coaster ride of emotions. In addition, they taught me lessons I never expected in the first place.

I would just like to share with you a “summarized” version of my views about the kdramas I’ve watched in 2017 (cause ya know, I’ve already posted my individual reflections about them here)

Doctor Stranger

My rating: 7/10

Starring: Lee Jong Suk, Park Hae Jin, Kang So Ra and Jin Se Yeon

This is an interesting drama to watch because it doesn’t only focuses on the romance aspect but also divulge into the topic of politics and medicine. The best part? The competition between Park Hoon and Han Jae Joon for it served as an avenue for their growth both as doctors and as a person. However, I felt like the romance part in here is a bit forced; I’m sorry but the main couple has zero chemistry.

My fave quote: “…the doctor’s gown you wear? That’s sufficient enough for people to put their lives in your hands. Let’s not disappoint them”

Goblin

My rating: 10/10

Starring: Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Wook, Yoo In Na and Yook SuengJae

The best K drama ever. It’s perfect. That’s all. This K drama will make you value life more and will show you that death isn’t something we should be afraid of – it’s a part of our journey on Earth, an end to a life once lived and it will only be regrettable if you didn’t live your life right. Anyway, this is a story about a Goblin who lives for more than 900 years and is searching for the Goblin’s Bride that will pull out the sword from his chest to end his immortality is surely something that would catch your attention. Let’s also add that he has an amnesiac Grim Reaper for a best friend (lol) and a spoiled brat ‘nephew’ who is so in love with his credit card. What will make you get hooked in this drama? It’s how every character are related to each other both in beautiful and painful ways; yes, even that gorgeous chicken store owner has a very important role. The part that broke my heart in this drama is the realization that the key to ending the Goblin’s immortality has become his reason to stay alive. It’s ironic how someone who has the ability to end you is also the only reason for you to keep going. Ang sakit bes. It was a perfect mix of romance, comedy and drama.

One of the most interesting plots in the K drama land; it is a story about the lead character of a famous comic book series who developed “free will” that scared his creator so much to the point that he wanted to kill off his main character. Kang Chul’s (the comic book’s main character) creator is afraid of how he seem to be directing his own story so his solution is to kill him however due to an amazing twist of fate, the creator’s daughter (which happens to be a doctor) gets sucked inside the comic book world every time that Kang Chul is in danger in order for her to save him. This k drama knows no chill by the way, it will keep you on the edge of your seat every episode. It’s intense and sometimes stressful to watch but you will love every moment of it anyway.

Love in the moonlight

Starring: Park Bo Gum, Kim Yoo Jung, Kwak Dong Yeon, Chae Soo Bin and Jinyoung (B1A4)

My first historical drama. It’s charming especially when you have Park Bo Gum as the Crown Prince and Kim Yoo Jung as the female lead, what more can you ask for? The romance side of this feels natural and would make you feel kilig everytime! You will love it to the moon and back. Moreover, the social issues it presented were still timely and relevant. It will make you realize that no matter how many years have passed and how different the government system has changed through the years, if those in position are motivated by their love of power instead of service to people then things would definitely won’t turn out well. This drama shows us that it is when the government listen to its people that it can be effective. The officials should not create higher gates and longer barriers between them and its people but instead open its doors and close the distance after all, without its people the government is nothing.

Legend of the blue sea

My rating: 7/10

One of the most hyped K drama of 2016 and even though it fell short on its promising story line, I still get to enjoy watching this. It’s interesting to watch a love story between a mermaid and a human especially when it also included the theme of reincarnation. This drama also shows us the value of second chances – it is an opportunity for us to change the course of our fate but it will be our choice…it’s up to us if we want to be better.

Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

My rating: 8.5/10

If I could only describe this K Drama in one word, it would be charming. The plot is light yet relatable. Easy to watch yet filled with great life lessons too. It will actually remind us of our younger years – the silly crushes, the dreamers in us and the unforgettable friendships we gained. What I like the most about it is the simplicity of its plot yet it will touch your heart.

Cheese in the trap

If you’re looking for a realistic yet harsh approach towards depicting our society in general, then this k drama is a must watch for you. It shows how the real world sucks. It has its charming side too though, especially the love triangle between Yoo Jung, Hong Seol and Baek In Ho and it will sometimes make you feel that both guys are deserving…actually erase that…all of them are deserving of love especially after all the struggles and challenges they’ve went through at such a young age. This drama started out strong but the ending felt a bit empty.

One of the best k dramas ever! I swear! It tells a great story of love, service and sacrifice. It is a great combination of romance, action, thrill, and philosophy. The best thing about this is how it executed the differing principles of the way doctors and soldiers save lives. It shows us how we can find ourselves through the service of others.

My rating: 7.5/10

I once described this drama as oppa overload because it was really filled with handsome oppa! Anyway, this is a great drama to show how the youth, despite them being young, can become the nation’s future. It is when we guide the young people rightly that we can secure a good future. It also shows us how much we needed to be united for our country’s sake because we can do so much better if we work with each other instead of against each other. This is a story of growth and brotherhood. A must watch, for sure.

This K drama will always have a special place in my heart because of how much I love and can relate with its heroine. The focus of this is the life of a great neurosurgeon Dr. Yoo Hye Jung – her ups and downs and how she manage to come out of all the challenges thrown at her stronger than ever. Her life story is really inspirational.

Seharusnya mereka hanya dibekukan di dalam pas 24 jam, namun karena kekeliruan profesor yang lakukan eksperimen, akhirnya mereka dibekukan selama 20 tahun.Baik Ma Dong-chan maupun Go Mi-ran sama-sama telah memiliki kekasih. Selama 20 tahun berlalu, kekasih mereka masih setia menunggu. The Bride of the Water God Episode 3 Recap

Yoon So Ah (Shin Se Kyung) watcher her patient, Bong Yeol, loaded in an ambulance that drives away. She’s uncomfortable with the emotion she let loose with Lord Habaek (Nam Joo Hyuk). She asks if he lives at the blow-up castle. He confirms this. She asks if he lives alone. Lord Habaek says he lost his servant, Nam Soo Ri but won’t explain how. So Ah is uncomfortable with his living conditions but she won’t offer to help him personally. Lord Habaek tells her to leave. She starts to leave then he applies guilt because of his support of her moments ago. Then he waves an imperious hand and tells her to go. When she starts to leave she hear thoughts about how ungracious she is. She looks around but no one is there.

Unable to sleep with the odd happenings, she explains to another doctor that she has a patient that can hear flowers, insects, fruits, and water. Her doctor friend, Jo Yeom Mi, (who is rock climbing) believes that the accusation of ingratitude could be the trigger. Yeom Mi wonders if the patient is feeling guilty that she didn’t help someone in need. Yeom Mi suggests that the patient is a giving person who has suppressed this tendency and feels guilt for not being true to herself.

Soo Ri looks at the phone and asks Lord Habaek to confirm he saw the sea on the device. Lord Habaek confirms it. Soo Ri believes that Lady Moo Ra, a goddess, would not go somewhere casually. Soo Ri calls her name into the phone. Lord Habaek scoffs. A young boy tells Lord Habaek to give him back his cell phone. The boy can’t believe an adult doesn’t have his own cell phone. He asks the boy where to get one.

At the cell phone store, the choices are overwhelming. They get a pitch from the salesman who provides applications for them to fill out. Of course, without money, it is hopeless.

Soo Ri is just about to leave for his part time job when Lord Habaek’s stomach growls in hunger. Soo Ri gives him rice cakes and scampers to his part time job. Lord Habaek wants to throw the rice cakes into the river, but can’t. He breaks down and eats rice cakes and drinks water.

Soo Ri offers him a clean shirt.

So Ah wakes from another sleepless night.

Lord Habaek munches food and hides the back when a homeless man stares at him eating.

So Ah finds Lord Habaek by the river. She starts to hear the voices. She begins by apologizing for not being sensitive to his issues. When she stumbles Lord Habaek steadies her. He declares that he can’t get her out of his head. She thinking he’s hitting on her but that is dispelled when he calls her so ignorant he can’t get over it. She starts to leave but knows she can’t. So Ah offers to get him professional help, but he’s not interested. He points out that he’s the only person that implicitly believes and trusts her. He stares into her eyes. So Ah mutters to contact her when he wants professional help. She tells herself she tried as she starts to walk away. Lord Habaek warns that rejecting him will have consequences. She stares at him.

Back at the clinic, So Ah continues to lie that she’s okay. But she can’t stop hearing the plant voices. Nurse Yoo Sang Yoo asks why she’s acting odd lately. He tells her to sleep and get her act together.

Alone in the office she walks to the plants who have gone quiet. She wonders if she’s crazy. She recalls Lord Habaek’s warning. Unnerved she calls her doctor friend who peppers her with questions about Lord Habaek. So Ah shares the kinds of things that have been happening. She can’t believe what she’s saying and hangs up. Sang Yoo calls to let her know Bong Yeol has a Thursday appointment and Park Sung Chul has requested a meeting. Then he enumerates the bad news; her diamond ring has not been found, the bank increased her loan rate, fixing the wiper has increased her insurance, and the landlord is not demanding a higher security deposit. When Sang Yoo suggest she rub shoulder with rich people at a fund raiser, So Ah storms away.

Soo Ri’s part time job is pedaling guests around the river. He spots a gold covered building and tells Lord Habaek it is real gold. Lord Habaek chides him for thinking a building was made of gold. Lord Habaek’s stomach growls. He is adamant that soon his powers will return and they’ll have all the gold they want. Lord Habaek thanks Soo Ri for his devotion. He stares at the electronic billboard with the video of Lady Moo Ra. When he tells Soo Ri about the image, another video is playing.

So Ah struggles up the hill to the hotel with the fancy fundraiser. She sits down to adjust her shoes. CEO Hoo Ye spots her and offers her a ride. She declines. He drives away! LOL! At the hotel, she can’t believe her bad luck. She recalls Lord Habaek’s warning. Assistant Min tells him that So Ah probably wanted the ride. Hoo Ye doesn’t believe it, So Ah is straightforward. Ha!

Lord Habaek and Soo Ri go to So Ah’s work but the office is closed. They overhear Sang Yoo say that So Ah is at a fancy hotel.

So Ah runs into Ji Won and two other acquaintances. She hears the bouquet of flowers start talking. As they walk into the fundraiser together they describe the big money donor who helps entrepreneurs. Of course, it’s Hoo Ye. So Ah starts pounding champagne and complaining about Hoo Ye. He walks up to them. So Ah’s friends are surprised he knows So Ah. He explains their previous encounters.

Embarrassed, So Ah walks away. Hoo Ye follows. So Ah blurts out that she needs money but wouldn’t ask for it. She apologizes claiming she’s a bit tipsy. Shin Ja Ya arrives to fanfare. So Ah cringes and tells Hoo Ye she needs to avoid someone so she’ll be going. But Shin Ja Ya catches her and immediately insults her. Hoo Ye overhears. The flowers repeat Ja Ya’s words distracting So Ah. But Ja Ya continues to push her. Irked So Ah retaliates with her own insult. As So Ah turns to leave, Ja Ya ups the ante and asks if her father ever returned. Ja Ya describes how kind to the homeless So Ah’s father was, but in a derisive way. Ja Ya skewers So Ah when she says So Ah’s father put stranger’s happiness above that of his family. So Ah almost hits Ja Ya but grabs the flowers and flings them to the floor instead. So Ah picks up the flowers and turns to leave. Ja Ya grabs her blouse and rips it. So Ah calls Ja Ya an attention whore. So Ah turns and leaves. Ja Ya starts after her but Hoo Ye stand in front of her. Ja Ya brushes him off and darts around him.

Outside the hotel So Ah walks dejectedly. Ja Ya runs after her but Lord Habaek blocks her and does not allow her to dart around him. So Ah turns and sees this. Lord Habaek tells Ja Ya that he knows an unpleasant woman with the name Shim. Ja Ya tries to push Lord Habaek but he’s like stone. Lord Habaek asks why Ja Ya is harassing his woman. Ja Ya can’t believe what she heard. Lord Habaek declares that So Ah is his woman. Ja Ya strides away when others recognize her. Lord Habaek walks to So Ah. She asks how he got there. She cries and admits she’s hearing things. He sees her torn shirt and puts his jacket around her. He calls a taxi for her. As Hoo Ye drives past, he sees So Ah get into the taxi.

During the taxi ride, So Ah doesn’t say much. She flashes back running in anger, not at her father who left her and her mother, but to turn the pain into strength. She stops on the bridge. The pain overwhelms her. She decides to let her father go. When present day So Ah passes the bridge, she imagines herself all those years ago. Lord Habaek sees her pain. So Ah looks away to hide her tears.

I haven’t said anything yet but we are at the mid-way point, so I’ll mention I’m enjoying this episode because the emotion content is richer. So Ah’s internal fortitude is astonishing. I’d be a babbling idiot if I were her. Lord Habaek’s aide as swoon worthy. Even though he’s not doing it to be romantic, because at this point he views So Ah as his servant and under his protection, it is the balm she needs and action I love.

Back at the blow-up castle, Lord Habaek can’t believe it when So Ah tries to leave. He says she treats him like “dine and dash”. Ha!

So Ah buys Lord Habaek a cell phone. Soo Ri promises his part-time job will cover the usage costs.

So Ah tells Lord Habaek he saw an electric sign. Lord Habaek explains that Moo Ra is a goddess. Lord Habaek notices that So Ah’s shoes are bothering her. He places her hand on his arm. The walk along the river. They stop to watch the electronic sign. So Ah muses that if Lord Habaek was a god, he could help her. He counters that he she helps him, he will help her. When he spots Moo Ra, So Ah stares in disbelief. She tells him that Moo Ra is called Hye Ra and is a representative of the country. So Ah doesn’t believe that Lord Habaek knows or will meet someone like Hye Ra. Lord Habaek calmly states that he is Hye Ra’s King. Lord Habaek states if So Ah takes him to where Hye Ra lives, he’ll consider her stint as his servant over.

The next morning So Ah can’t believe she drove Lord Habaek to where Hye Ra is. Lord Habaek tells her she was a dreadful servant but she will be rewarded by Moo Ra. When So Ah puts a hand on him as he exits, she asks if she can come too. Lord Habaek tells her that Moo Ra doesn’t like human women. He slams the door in her face. She moans that this isn’t Moo Ra’s house. She tells herself that Lord Habaek must face reality one day. She watches Lord Habaek stop, turn and smile at her. She starts to drive away but stops herself. She can’t believe she can’t leave him.

Hoo Ye passes by So Ah’s car and he sees her frustration. He knocks on the window startling her.

Inside the hotel, Lord Habaek tells himself the house is a nice one. He walks in the direction he senses Moo Ra will be.

Hoo Ye doesn’t think So Ah is sick or came to see him. So Ah snaps she wouldn’t come to see him. Calmly Lord Habaek accepts that they have no relationship. He asks why she’s sitting in her car in front of his hotel. So Ah struggles to ask if Hye Ra is at the hotel. Hoo Ye asks if she’s referring to the hotel’s spokeswoman.

Moo Ra is getting makeup applied for a shoot. She senses then sees Lord Habaek. He smiles and tells her it’s been too long. She doesn’t react.

So Ah can’t believe that Hye Ra is really at the hotel. She dashes away and into the hotel.

Lord Habaek can’t believe it when body guards won’t let him approach Moo Ra. She ignores his pleas. Lord Habaek can dispatch the body guards but is stuck when the bodyguards grab him in mass. So Ah arrives and stares. Assistant Min arrives. So Ah pleads with the bodyguard to let Lord Habaek go. Moo Ra turns her attention to So Ah. When a bodyguard pushes So Ah to the ground, Lord Habaek is furious. He warns the man not to touch his servant. He helps So Ah up.

Lord Habaek’s hands on So Ah seems to irritate Moo Ra and she walks towards Lord Habaek and So Ah. She stares at Lord Habaek’s hand on So Ah’s wrist. She slaps him. So Ah yells at Moo Ra for slapping Lord Habaek. Moo Ra asks who she is. So Ah positions herself between Moo Ra and Lord Habaek and declares that she is his guardian. HR assures So Ah that he deserved the slap. So Ah scoffs that Hye Ra is not a real goddess. She tells HR to take care of her mental health. She slaps a business card in HR’s hand and promises a celebrity discount. Ha! So Ah pulls Lord Habaek away.

She orders Lord Habaek into her car. Lord Habaek tells her that she interrupted. He declares that Moo Ra is a flower that will never age. Lord Habaek says they live in different worlds. She offers to have him meets a god. She calls Yeon Mi.

Assistant Min reports the disturbance has been taken care of. Hoo Ye asks if it was So Ah’s patient. The assistant confirms this and indicates he thinks the patient is the same man they saw at the hotel last night. Hoo Ye smiles at So Ah’s devotion to her patients.

Moo Ra orders quiet. Everyone leaves the set. She calls a Lord Bi Ryeon. He’s able ready to sky jump from a building. She yells that there’s no time for that, Lord Habaek is there. That gets his attention. He murmurs that the red water finally came. Lord Bi Ryeon says that Lord Habaek will find him. Moo Ra smirks that Lord Habaek lost the coordinates. That surprises him. Moo Ra says she kicked Lord Habaek out. She reminds him they both are accomplishes to the god stone. She hangs up. Moo Ra looks at So Ah’s business card. She seethes that Lord Habaek found a woman as soon as he arrived in this world.

Lord Bi Ryeon smiles and cheekily tells us the intrigue and suspense begins now, Lord Habaek has come.

Soo Ri, Lord Habaek, and So Ah stare at a tall building. Soo Ri doesn’t believe they’ll find a woman that knows a god in the building. Lord Habaek doesn’t believe it either. Soo Ri takes Lord Habaek aside wonder if another god is at play. He doesn’t understand why “my Moo Ra” was cold. Lord Habaek stares at him. So Ah calls to Lord Habaek to follow her.

As they exit the elevator they approach a glass structure on the empty floor. So Ah introduces Jo Yeom Mi. Lord Habaek and Yeom Mi stare at each other. Yeom Mi pulls So Ah aside and asks if he’s the man that pricked her conscience. So Ah doesn’t answer but instead says that Lord Habaek wants to meet a god. She asks Yeom Mi to help him. Yeom Mi whispers that Lord Habaek is a real god. That surprises So Ah.

Lord Habaek doesn’t understand how Yeom Mi doesn’t know the gods he knows. Lord Habaek declares “I am the god of water, and soon to be king of water country, and emperor of the gods. I am Habaek”.

While So Ah waits she gets a text from Sang Yoo. She tells him to schedule the patient for tomorrow. So Ah considers and realizes that Lord Habaek is from a different world. She tells herself to stop watching over Lord Habaek. She recalls their kiss. Yeom Mi calls her as she exits the building. She left? Where is Lord Habaek? She tells her to send Lord Habaek to a specialist she knows. She hangs up. So Ah can’t believe it.

So Ah finds Lord Habaek staring out the window. He asks if she’s messing with him. He asks if she believes him. He tells her to go. He releases her. So Ah turns and stops. Angrily she declares that she tried her best but his story was unbelievable. Lord Habaek tells her that she can believe him, if she chooses to. She remembers her father leaving them. She runs away. She runs into the stairwell. She wonders what’s important about the truth. A man grabs her and pulls her into the elevator.

Lord Habaek stares out the window.

Soo Ri plays with the phone. He wonders what is happening upstairs. He sees someone on the roof. He calls Lord Habaek. He tells Lord Habaek that So Ah is fighting with a man on the roof. The man pushes So Ah over the edge. Lord Habaek sees her fall. He drops the phone. He runs through the window. He follows So Ah down. He grabs So Ah and wraps her in water. He lands on ground with So Ah safe in his arms. We hear the high priest intone “It’s fate. He saved this child’s life.” Lord Habaek tells a stunned So Ah that he’s a god. LOVE IT!

My Thoughts

Great third episode. This series’ story is rich and dialog is verbose. All the words matter, all the details matter. This isn’t a fluff show. I loved the reveal that Moo Ra isn’t good. I loved the reveal that Lord Bi Ryeon is aligned with Moo Ra and that they messed with the stones. Recall Lord Habaek must bring 3 stones together to become the next emperor. I loved that Lord Habaek saved So Ah repeatedly (and as a child). I loved that So Ah put herself in front of Moo Ra. I loved Hoo Ye’s quirky way of communicating, the man has limited emotional intelligence.

Lord Habaek (Nam Joo Hyuk) proved he was a god when he saved So Ah. Joo Hyuk embodies Lord Habaek with stoic assurance of his station in life, but there’s something else that So Ah taps into, Joo Hyuk’s eyes let us know that Lord Habaek feels her pull. I’m a fan of Joo Hyuk’s portrayal of Lord Habaek. I’m a fan of Lord Habaek.

Yoon So Ah (Shin Se Kyung) was once again poster child for “had a bad day”. Her encounter with Ja Ya was uncomfortable. Ja Ya was a witch to her. Her encounter with Moo Ra proved she cares for Lord Habaek, not personally yet, but there is a tie between them. Watching So Ah struggling to reconcile her intellect with her emotional response to Lord Habaek has been fascinating. Wouldn’t you struggle if plants started talking to you and a man declared he was a god and you were his servant? So Ah’s internal fortitude is impressive.

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Baca judul tulisan ini aku ketawa sendiri.

Seperti judulnya, jadi tulisan ini akan membahas Kapten Ri Jeong Hyuk.

Gadeng, sungguh bukan kapasitas ku menulis biografi beliau. Wkwk.

Bukan karena itu juga, tapi ya buat apa.

Tapi aneh rasanya sih ya kalau judulnya Kapten Ri tapi tidak membahas kapten kesayangan kita semua ini.

JADI YOK MARI BAHAS DIA YOOOKKKK... HAHAHAHA.

Gajelas manusia ini, akibat menulis judul duluan baru isinya.

Ya tapi kan emang gitu kan? Skripsi aja ngajuin judul dulu, baru buat proposal, baru dapet dosen pembimbing, baru sidang akhir.

Jadi, di masa pandemi ini, aku, si aulia rahman yang sok sok an anti drama korea, dan berjanji tidak akan nonton lagi setelah dulu terbius oleh kisa cinta nya si dr. Kang sama si Yoo Si Jin (bener ga sih namanya?) di film Descendant of The Sun, BERHASIL DIRUNTUHKAN BENTENG PERTAHANANNYA OLEH DRAMA BERJUDUL CRASH LANDING ON YOU.

Dengan tokoh utama Kapten Ri dan Yoon Se Ri, drama ini berhasil membuat aulia menangis - nagis tidak karuan sampai subuh dan selalu terbayang wajah Kapten Ri yang memang ganteng tapi bukan karena itu aja entahlah kisahnya itu meresap sampai ke ulu hati.

Dan saat ini, saat aku mengetik tulisan ini, aku sedang menonton drama CLOY untuk ketiga kalinya, setelah menamatkan 16 episode sebanyak 2 kali. Hahaha.

Awalnya, setelah tamat 2 kali, aku sudah nge-claim bahwa "wah aku kecanduan drakor".Maksud ku, aku akan suka semua drama korea. Bukan cuma Crash Landing on You, tapi ya apapun judulnya.

Berbarengan dengan CLOY, ada Itaewon Class, Kingdom, Hi Bye Mama dan The World of Marriage Couple juga Hospital Playlist sama Eternal Monarch yang juga rame. Selain itu ya buuuanyak banget dong haha.

Setelah tamat CLOY yang ke dua, ku coba lah drama - drama tersebut satu persatu.Namun, entah bagaimana, semuanya hanya berakhir di episode ke satu atau dua, dan selalu berakhir dengan kembali nya aku ke Kapten Ri ahahaha.

Ada drama yang judulnya Love Affair dan sudah berhasil ku tonton sampai episode 6, dan aku kembali kangen sama mulut berisik milik Pyo Chi Su. Haha.

Ku tinggal itu si Love Affair dan kembali ber haha hihi sama empat sekawan anak buah Kapten Ri dan selalu menangis saat kisah meninggalnya kakak Kapten Ri lagi di-flash back-in.

Padahal drama - drama lain kayanya lebih bagus, tapi entah mengapa aku gabisa aja. Selalu kangen suasana perumahan Kapten Ri dan senyum nya Yoon Se Ri yang hidupnya tidak semanis senyumnya.

Akhirnya, aku berfikir, ya ampun prahara drama korea aja aku mikir. wkwk.

Akhirnya aku mikir kalau, "oh aku suka niiih sama Hyun Bin berarti", Hyun Bin adalah aktor pemeran Kapten Ri yang wagilasiiih udah 38 tahun tapi masih stay young aja gitu wkwk.

Mulai dari Memories of Al Hambra, Secret Garden, Hyde Jekill Me ku tonton. Semua drama korea dengan Hyun Bin sebagai pemeran utama ku tonton.

DAN TETAP SAJA HANYA BERAKHIR DI EPISODE SATU.

Lalu kemudian aku kembali lagi ke Kapten Ri.

Udah mulai sebel kah? Ahahaha.

Bahkan, aku juga nonton The Negotiation, film nya Hyun Bin sama Son Ye jin alias Yon Se Ri. Jadi bener - bener sama pemeran utama nya kaya di Crash Landing on You cuma beda jalan cerita.

Dan kalian sudah tau dong apa yang terjadi? wkwkwk.

Benar! Aku tidak sesuka itu ahahaha.

Akhir dari segala akhir tentang Kapten Ri ini adalah : aku berkesimpulan bahwa : aku bukan pencinta drakor. HAHA BANGGA DAN LEGA.

Tapi aku pecinta Kapten Ri dan Yon Se Ri. Bukan Hyun bin dan Son Ye Jin.

Aku suka Crash Landing on You sebagai drama korea, bukan semua drama korea.

Lalu aku jadi ingat, sebelum drama ini, aku pernah berkali menonton dan membaca buku yang sama secara berulang - ulang tanpa pernah bosan bahkan sampai aku hafal jalan ceritanya.

Ada film The Fault in Our Stars yang ku tonton 9 kali, karena Augustus Waters dan Hazel Grace yang jalan hidupnya masing - masing pedih.

Kemudian, ada Divergent yang ku tonton entah berapa kali, tapi yang ku ingat berulang kali, dengan kisah Four dan Tris yang sama - sama menyentuh ku di bagian masa lalu yang pedih.

Dan ada dua buku favorite yang ku baca berulang;

Satu Keping karya Sri Izzati karena pedihnya akhir hubungan tokoh di buku itu.

Ayat - Ayat Cinta 1 karena pedihnya kisah Maria dan sungai nil nya. Bukan karena Fahri dan Aisyah nya.

Film - film Ansel Elgort, Shailene Woodley dan Theo James selain dua film di atas juga ku coba. Dan berakhir sama halnya dengan cerita ku bersama film - film lain yang diperankan Kapten Ri.

Buku - buku dengan kisah yang sama juga ku baca, tapi tak berhasil ku ulang saat sudah tamat seperti halnya Satu Keping dan Ayat- Ayat Cinta 1.

Dan setelah ku teliti, mereka semua, film, drama dan buku yang ku suka memiliki kepedihan nya masing - masing. Azeek sukanya yg pedih - pedih euy.

Gagitu.

Maksudnya, masa lalu tokoh - tokoh yang ku suka penuh penyesalan dan kesedihan.

Kapten Ri dengan kegagalannya jadi pianis.

Yoon Seri dengan keberadaannya yang tidak dicintai.

Four dan Tris dengan status divergent nya.

Satu Keping dengan ketidak mampuan tokoh melanjutkan cerita mereka.

Serta Maria dengan ketidak sesuaian keingininan dan takdir yang dimilikinya.

Yang, mungkin, relate dengan kegagalan - kegagalan dan takdir yang ku punya selama 22 tahun menjalani hidup.

Akhirnya aku juga sadar, bahwa suka atau tidak suka nya aku, bukan karena pemerannya.

Tapi ya karena tokoh dan ceritanya. Gimana ya jelasinnya. Haha.

Jadi ya aku suka Kapten Ri karena dia Kapten Ri, bukan karena ia diperankan oleh Hyun Bin sebagai aktor korea yang memang se mempesona itu.

Sesederhana juga aku suka kisah Kapten Ri dan tidak suka dengan kisah lainnya yang ia perankan.

Aku suka Crash Landing on You karena itu adalah Crash Landing on You. Bukan karena Hyun Bin nya yang main Crash Landing on You. Apalagi kalau hanya karena sekedar itu adalah drama korea yang uwu.

Ku coba menonton drama dan film yang juga diperankan Kapten Ri, namun bukan sebagai Kapten Ri dan semuanya berakhir dengan kembali nya aku ke drama Kapten Ri.

Di sini aku sadar bahwa, kita akan selalu tertarik dengan kisah yang punya jalan cerita yang mirip dengan kisah yang esensinya seperti apa yang kita punya di kehidupan nyata.

Dan lebih dari itu, aku pun sadar bahwa, layaknya aku suka Kapten Ri karena dia adalah Kapten Ri, dalam mencintai seseorang pun harusnya aku begitu.

Ciyeee. Ahaha.

Sungguh aku tidak tau ada sebuah makna atau pesan apa dari cerita ini. Tapi sepertinya yaitu tadi:

Semoga, kita bisa mencintai seseorang karena dirinya adalah dirinya.

Tanpa mencari dirinya di kisah - kisah yang lain.

Atau justru mencari kisah lain dan memaksakannya untuk memerankan kisah itu.

Karena nampaknya, setiap kisah akan punya indahnya sendiri.

Dan untuk bisa dinikmati berulang, akan hanya terjadi dengan membiarkan seseorang memerankan tokohnya di kisah yang sudah semestinya ia perankan.

Bride of the Water God Episode 5 Recap

Yoon So Ah (Shin Se Kyung) drives Lord Habaek (Nam Joo Hyuk) and his servant, Nam Soo Ri to a picnic spot. Lord Habaek notices the same man that spied on their shopping has followed them and parked. He watches the man loosen a bolt, put water on the engine and loosen the lug nuts on So Ah’s tires. He realizes the man is trying to hurt So Ah. He notices a CCTV.

Lord Habaek watches her dream and apologizes. So Ah wakes and asks what he’s sorry about. He changes the subject. He calls to Soo Ri that it’s time to leave. When they arrive at the car, Lord Habaek takes So Ah’s keys and gets behind the wheel. Irked, So Ah is forced to ride in the back seat. As the car drives away, the man watches them.

Lord Habaek drives aggressively freaking out So Ah and Soo Ri. The brakes fall just as he knew they would. But when he tries to tap into his powers to stop the speeding car, nothing happens. Lord Habaek detours into a tunnel under construction. He sees the exit it blocked. He opens the sun roof and tells So Ah to follow him up as he goes on top of the roof. Needless to say, So Ah hesitates. Lord Habaek urges her to trust him. She does and it terrified when he tells her they must jump from the car. Lord Habaek swoops her up in his arms. He looks into her eyes and tells her that she belongs to him. Swoon! The water globe surrounds them. He holds her close. Swoon! They land on the ground. He stares into her eyes and asks if she’s okay. Swoon!

That was a yummy moment. Lord Habaek is drawn to So Ah. She in turn feels his pull. But they aren’t ready to admit it yet. He proports that she’s his servant, that’s why he cares. She doesn’t understand why she’s drawn to a man that claims to be god, a man she believes more and more. The cinematography was excellent too.

Soo Ri rushes to Lord Habaek thrilled that his powers have returned. He places a rock in Lord Habaek’s hand to test his powers. Lord Habaek drops the rock and declares his powers are gone. Soo Ri is bummed. Lord Habaek assures him his powers will return, he knows it. Lord Habaek tells So Ah that a man tampered with her car. She doesn’t believe him. He suggests the CCTV footage be reviewed.

The CCTV footage reveals the culprit, Park Sang Chul. While the police question him, Lord Habaek and So Ah look on from the 1-way window. The police officer states Sang Chul rear ended her. So Ah stares and recalls. She also remembers Sang Chul being negative to her on the street. She recalls Nurse Yoo Sang Yoo repeatedly telling her that Sang Chul called her. The police officer that interrogated Sang Chul joins them. Sang Chul is claiming the rear end accident wrecked his life (points, fine, etc.). The officer can’t believe that Sang Chul claims So Ah is at fault. But wait there’s more, Sang Chul admitted to pushing So Ah from a rooftop! Sang Chul declares So Ah isn’t human because she survived. Sang Chul declares Lord Habaek isn’t human either. The officers chuckle at the ludicrous statement.

As they walk home, Lord Habaek says all is well now that the culprit has been caught. He reminds her she hasn’t thanked him for saving her life…twice.

To that end, So Ah creates a partition and Lord Habaek soaks in the tub on the deck. Soo Ri recalls Lord Habaek spending all day in a bath in the other world. Lord Habaek tells So Ah he wants to try a bubble bath and he needs a new cell phone as his broke when he rescued her. Food and clothes are also added to her to-do list.

So Ah stands in the grocery store and can’t believe she’s shopping for Lord Habaek. She’s pleased to find discounted meat doesn’t look as fresh as the full price meat.

Flashback to Lord Habaek telling Soo Ri that the man that is stalking So Ah might be the ticket to getting his powers back when So Ah begs him to save her. Soo Ri chides Lord Habaek for using the situation to his advantage. Lord Habaek coolly informs Soo Ri he apologized to So Ah in advance. Recall Lord Habaek apologized to So Ah when she woke from her dream.

So Ah slaves over a hot stove. Turns out she’s not a good cook. She serves ramen to Lord Habaek who isn’t impressed.

So Ah shows Lord Habaek a cooking show with a male chef. She gushes over the male chef. Lord Habaek gets the hint and heads into the kitchen. He expertly wipes up a delicious multi course meal. The relish the meal as they dine on the deck. Gallantly Lord Habaek cuts her meat. He offers a slice of apple and states it represents his apology. When So Ah asks what he’s apologizing for, Lord Habaek asks her a question she finds funny. She laughs. Soo Ri laughs. So Ah stares not comprehending what is funny. So Ah and Soo Ri get a case of the giggles.

Lovely scene on the deck. The camaraderie between the three of them is building. Soo Ri is growing on me. Can I say the cooking in the kitchen was part food porn, part chef porn? Joo Hyuk looked hot cooking and the food looked yummy too!

Later on the deck So Ah worries that Sang Chul’s actions were a cry for help that she didn’t see. She wants to live her life only thinking about what she wants. Lord Habaek informs her that’s not the type of life fate has ordained for her. He advises her to follow her heart unless she wants to suffer as she has been. So Ah touches his shirt and thanks him for saving her and distracting her. They stare into each other’s eyes.

I’m digging their intensity. Not romance, but intensity.

CEO Shin Hoo Ye (Lim Ju-Hwan) takes a break from studying books of jokes. He looks at all his awards for business and muses if he could grasp comedy, life would be perfect. He recalls So Ah telling him they didn’t know each other well enough to joke with each other. Assistant Min calls and asks if he’s working late studying comedy. He suggests that dating might help and offers to fix him up. Hoo Ye asks him to get to point. An adjusted meeting and retrieval of the handkerchief from Shi Ja Ya are discussed.

As Ja Ya gets an ego boost from a chat room, Hoo Ye texts and asks for the return of his handkerchief. She gets miffed and gets a tirade response. But she accidently responds in the chat room, not directly to Hoo Ye. The rumors start flying that she likes Hoo Ye but he rejected her. She is horrified. Her manager calls her and complains about her actions.

Furious she goes to Hoo Ye and demands that he make everything right. She strides away. Assistant Min explains that Ja Ya is upset about rumors about “their relationship”. Ja Ya gets more irked with her managers calls and tells her not to argue publicly with her power CEO cousin. Ja Ya snaps that Hoo Ye isn’t her cousin. She takes his handkerchief and throws it on the ground.

Bi Ryeon finds Lady Moo Ra swimming in her pool. She’s not happy with the visit. Bi Ryeon says maybe it’s time they find the guy the high priest foretold. Moo Ra scoffs that Bi Ryeon shouldn’t believe in silly things like that. Bi Ryeon explains his strategy is to tell Lord Habaek that he’ll hand over his stone when Moo Ra hands over her. He advises her to say the same. She’s unimpressed with his plan. She hands him So Ah’s business card. Moo Ra says Lord Habaek is utilizing his servant So Ah. Moo Ra shares she doesn’t think So Ah knows Lord Habaek is a god.

So Ah isn’t happy to find herself in Lord Habaek’s room when she wakes. Lord Habaek coolly reminds her that she got drunk last night and crawled to his room to sleep it off. She’s further embarrassed when Soo Ri sees her leaving Lord Habaek’s room and asks if they slept together. She denies and dashes away.

Bi Ryeon calls Soo Ri surprising him and Lord Habaek. Bi Ryeon instructs Soo Ri to have Lord Habaek meet him. Lord Habaek realizes that Moo Ra found Bi Ryeon. Soo Ri worries about meeting with Bi Ryeon without Lord Habaek’s power intact, it could put So Ah in danger. So Ah overhears. She’s not happy when she realizes the car accident was a mechanism to get Lord Habaek’s powers back. She gives Lord Habaek a piece of her mind and storms away. Soo Ri goes after her. He explains Lord Habaek was sure he could save So Ah and get his powers back. So Ah doesn’t like being used. Lord Habaek tells Soo Ri it’s time to go. Soo Ri tells So Ah the sooner he and Lord Habaek return to the other world, the better for her and them. Soo Ri follows Lord Habaek out of the house.

So Ah decides to join Lord Habaek and Soo Ri to meet the god. She claims she’s going to get payment for all the money’s she’s spent for care and feeding.

When they arrive at Bi Ryeon’s building, they look at the modern high-rise building. So Ah spins a tale of once being pursued by the wealthy man who she rejected. The flashback reveals he left the country without telling her. When Bi Ryeon opens the door, So Ah stares in shock. He smiles. She faints. Inside Bi Ryeon murmurs his understanding why he was drawn to So Ah. He stares at Lord Habaek and states the god stones don’t disappear even though he has no powers. When So Ah stirs she sees Bi Ryeon and faints again. Lord Habaek tells Bi Ryeon to give him the stone. Bi Ryeon refuses. He does offer to reconsider if Moo Ra gives him her stone. When So Ah stirs she sees Bi Ryeon and faints again.

Bi Ryeon mocks Lord Habaek for his human hunger. Lord Habaek replies those pains make him stronger and able to be a better king. Lord Habaek stands to leave. Bi Ryeon tells Lord Habaek to leave So Ah with him. When Bi Ryeon goes to touch her, Lord Habaek intervenes with a steely stare. Love it!

Soo Ri can’t believe Bi Ryeon’s bold refusal of Lord Habaek’s request. It appears without power, Lord Habaek cannot order Bi Ryeon to return the god stones. He’s between a rock and a hard place.

Lord Habaek has to piggy back Soo Ri out. In the elevator Soo Ri worries that neither Moo Ra or Bi Ryeon will return the god stones.

Assistant Min tells Hoo Ye if So Ah has signed his offer for her land. Hoo Ye doesn’t have the contract and isn’t surprised considering the land has been in her family for generations. He muses that So Ah has a soft hard which is why she asks tough to cover that fact. He believes this is why what she wants never happens because she’s living a façade. He shares that analyzing other’s feelings is his specialty. He plans to talk to So Ah soon.

When So Ah wakes she’s in her bed. She thinks over the events of the day and decides it must be dream.

Lord Habaek dispels that when he tells her Bi Ryeon said the diamond ring wasn’t an engagement ring, but a friendship ring. Ha! So Ah flashes back to hearing that Bi Ryeon gave 20 people that same ring in friendship. Lord Habaek repeats it was friendship not love. Ha! So Ah can’t believe this is happening to her.

So Ah can’t believe that Bi Ryeon is a god. Lord Habaek retorts that he comes from the goddess of love and enjoys chaos. So Ah simply can’t believe she’s had two gods in her life. Lord Habaek tells Soo Ri that So Ah has “lost it”. Ha! Soo Ri wonders if talking to Moo Ra or finding Joo Dong should be their next action.

Moo Ra keeps her meeting with Lord Habaek short. She refuses to hand over the stone. She does offer to reconsider if Bi Ryeon gives him her stone. She flees. She’s not happy to find Bi Ryeon in her car. She even further dismayed when he reminds her that she once used him to make Lord Habaek jealous.

So Ah tries to get a grip that Bi Ryeon is back in her life. Her nurse tells her Hoo Ye phone multiple times. So Ah calls Hoo Ye and apologizes for not reviewing the contract yet. He suggests they meet. She agrees.

Lord Habaek decides he need advice from So Ah on the mental states of Bi Ryeon and Moo Ra.

So Ah is startled when Bi Ryeon appears outside her office. He wants to catch up, especially now that he knows she’s the servant. So Ah tries to brush him off but he won’t listen. He forcibly puts her in his car and locks the doors. Lord Habaek and Soo Ri arrive just as he rounds the driver’s door. He smiles, waves, and gets into the car. Lord Habaek realizes something is wrong and takes off after Bi Ryeon. He floors it leaving Lord Habaek running after him. Bi Ryeon goes under the overpass Hoo Ye is walking over. Lord Habaek can’t catch up and stops gasping for breath. Hoo Ye looks at Lord Habaek and then proceed to where he assumes So Ah will be waiting for him.

Interesting that Bi Ryeon kidnapped So Ah. Lord Habaek sensed she was in danger. But this time, his powers didn’t return. It must have everything to do with if her life is in imminent danger. Lord Habaek and Hoo Ye are two ships that pass in the night. When will they realize who each other is?

Bi Ryeon drives faster (at a hyper speed) than So Ah can take. She’s not happy. He loves it. She tries to call someone. He tosses her phone out the window.

Hoo Ye waits in vain for So Ah. He calls but gets no answer.

When Bi Ryeon finally stops the car, he flies to the top of a bridge and taunts So Ah for her shabby life. When he jumps down he ask her to drink a red fluid that will make Lord Habaek forget about the god stones temporarily. He claims he has other things to attend to. He offers to compensate her handsomely including a new diamond friendship ring. So Ah can’t help but be drawn to his offer to make her rich. She takes the vial. Bi Ryeon smiles. Then she drops the vial and smashes it with her foot. She tells Bi Ryeon to handle his own problems. Bi Ryeon’s smile vanishes. He states as servant she must serve all the gods not only Lord Habaek. He says without Lord Habaek’s powers she be better to align herself with him. So Ah retorts that Lord Habaek’s powers are intermittent proving he is a god. That surprises Bi Ryeon.

Moo Ra is driving at the same hyper speed with Lord Habaek and Soo Ri in her car. She realizes that Lord Habaek may be adamant to catch up with Bi Ryeon because he cares for So Ah. Lord Habaek doesn’t refute her claim.

So Ah tells Bi Ryeon to take her home. He tells her he’ll need to confirm that Lord Habaek’s powers are intermittent. When Moo Ra, Lord Habaek and Soo Ri arrive, Bi Ryeon is all smiles. When Lord Habaek tells So Ah to come to him, she tires but with a wave of his hand Bi Ryeon pushes her backwards. The bridge under her starts to crack. Lord Habaek yells at him to stop. Moo Ra demands to know why Bi Ryeon is doing this. Bi Ryeon tells Lord Habaek if he demonstrates his powers, he’ll consider giving him the stone. Moo Ra is surprised by the intermittent powers claim.

Grinning Bi Ryeon snaps his fingers to amp the danger up for So Ah. Lord Habaek watches helpless without his powers. Soo Ri yells that it is against the rules to bully humans. Bi Ryeon counters that servants are exempt from this. Moo Ra tells Bi Ryeon to stop. Bi Ryeon counters that So Ah told him that if she’s in danger Lord Habaek’s powers return. He tells Lord Habaek the choice to save her is his. Lord Habaek stares, sneers, and declares the Bi Ryeon must have lost the god stones. That stops Bi Ryeon in his tracks. He stops using his powers on So Ah. Lord Habaek demands to know why he lost the god stones. Everyone stares at each other.

My Thoughts

Bi Ryeon reveals himself to be working against Lord Habaek. Smirking evil characters are standard in kdramas and Bi Ryeon was irking me. I was pleased when Lord Habaek realized the god stones were missing. That knocked the smug smirk off Bi Ryeon’s face. Does Lord Habaek realize that Moo Ra is in cahoots with Bi Ryeon?

Lord Habaek (Nam Joo Hyuk) had some swoonable moments. He may claim that he’s protecting So Ah but that’s only half the story. He’s also drawn to her and starting to care for her, something Moo Ra easily spotted as she drove them to meet Bi Ryeon. I enjoy a slow build of a relationship. I don’t need instant love or like. Lord Habaek won’t admit to more than cursory concern for his servant. He’s lying to himself. But is he also lying to protect So Ah from heartbreak? He did warn her not to fall for him.

Yoon So Ah (Shin Se Kyung) is surround by gods and it’s more than she could take. So Ah couldn’t believe it when Bi Ryeon turned about to be the diamond ring giving man from her past. My hats off to writer Jung and Writer Yoon for that clever tie between these characters. I was proud of So Ah for rejecting the vial of red fluid and Bi Ryeon’s offer of riches. So Ah has a power in this story even though she’s just “the servant”. I found Hoo Ye’s assessment that So Ah is living a façade very astute.
