BSD Interviews Masterlist
A new masterlist by yours truly. There's so many interviews out there that I wouldn't dare to aspire to include them all; but since I've been stumbling across a lot of Asagiri interviews after they attended Anime Expo this year, I wanted to at least have one place where I can keep track of the ones I see. If you know any interview I failed to include, please let me know!!
The dates reported here refer to the date the interview was published, and not when it was taken; even then, please take them with a grain of salt. Some rows feature multiple links to dislocated translations of the same interview, so be sure to hover over all the text so you don't miss any piece. Finally, sorry if the list results a little bulky at times, I couldn't seem to come up with a better way to format it.

[Movie] Genius Party: Doorbell
The 4th short from Genius Party (2007) gave me chills.
Tumblr media
A high school student, Yagisawa Yuu, is on his way home when a little girl at the railway crossing notices a doppelganger splitting off from him. When he gets home, he rings the doorbell and enters. All we see of the living room is a white flash of light, as if we are brought into another portal.
His mother and sister look out at the genkan but don't see anyone. Turns out, the "other him" is already in the house. The doppelganger seems to be the only one who can see the real Yuu, and he looks at him in surprised amazement.
The same thing happens when he visits a friend's house. Throughout the short, it is left ambiguous whether strangers on the street can see him or the doppelganger (or possibly both). Finally he visits a girl friend, Yasuno Mai, at her mansion.
Downstairs, an elderly lady clearly see and talks to him. As Mai comes down and he goes towards the lobby, he notices in the reflection in the glass that the "other him" is coming up from behind. Turning around, he hurls his bag with full force at the doppelganger. Another white flash of light, and the doppelganger disappears. All is right with Yuu's world again.
At the end, as he enters the building, he sees the "other him" trapped on the other side of the glass, and flashes the impostor a little smile.
This story came to me at a juncture in my life where I probably really need to hear its message. It might be enigmatic to some, but for me the message is crystal clear. The doppelganger is symbolic of Yuu trying to be someone he's not. We are meant to identify with the Yuu from whose perspective we are seeing the short.
There is one scene where the "other him" catches up to him at the railway crossing. Seeing Yuu there, the doppelganger ducks under the barrier and runs across the tracks. After recovering from his dumbfounded surprise, Yuu gives chase, narrowly missing an oncoming train. The dangers of living a double life, or perhaps of facing yourself amidst a hidden existence, are undoubtedly immense, but nonetheless worthwhile.
When he meets Mai she tells him that, for a crazy moment, she saw two of him walking towards her. He replies: "I am glad that the one you see is me." Perhaps at home and with his other friends Yuu has felt the need to hide, but Mai sees the real him. And perhaps that is what gave him the courage to fight off the doppelganger in her presence, instead of giving in and quietly retreating like he did twice before.
It's a simple story, probably the least exciting one in the whole collection. But it speaks to me in a profound way. It reminds me to grab my bag at any turn, ready to whack the impostor over the head and reclaim my rightful identity.

Sentai Announces May Slate And 7Seeds
Tumblr media
Senta Filmworks has announced upcomng home video titles and the acquisition of 7Seeds:
HOUSTON, TX — February 22, 2021 — Sentai announced today that it will be releasing the second season of post-apocalyptic anime series 7SEEDS, based on the award-winning manga of the same name, on home video in Spring 2021.
Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off. A meteor strike has left the world a shattered shell of what it once was, but a government initiative involving cryogenics has given humanity a fighting chance. To date, the subjects of the 7SEEDS project have survived giant insects, post-apocalyptic weather, ferocious animals, and the greatest danger of all: other survivors, all of whom will do anything to live another day. But the 7SEEDS project’s chosen few aren’t safe yet, and the monumental mission of rebuilding society has only just begun.
A Studio KAI (Cagaster of an Insect Cage, Uma Musume: Pretty Derby Season 2) production, 7SEEDS’ second season is directed by Yukio Takahashi (director Dog & Scissors, episode director LASTEXILE -Fam, The Silver-, Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit and The Qwaser of Stigmata) while Toko Machida (Akame ga Kill!, Chaika -The Coffin Princess-, Wake Up, Girls!) provides series composition. The series stars the vocal talents of Nao Toyama (GATE, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, KAKURIYO -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits-) as Natsu Iwashimizu, Jun Fukuyama (Love, Chunibyo and Other Delusions, Assassination Classroom, Maoyu ~ Archenemy & Hero) as Arashi Aota and Yoko Hikasa (BanG Dream! 2nd Season, K-ON!, No Game, No Life) as Hana Sugurono.
7SEEDS is based upon the manga of the same name by Yumi Tamura; in 2007, the manga received the 52nd Shogakukan Manga Award for “Best Shojo (Girl’s) Manga.”
