Finally I can post the comic I did for @yoiroyaltyzine 👑

It was a joy to draw Prince Jean Jacques of the Maple Leaf Kingdom and Prince Otabek of the Altin Kingdom in a mixture of fantasy and real language references for the Kazakh language!

Just 2 words on Жан - zhan - soul (Жаным - zhanym - my soul): 

In Kazakh Жан sounds like Jean with French pronunciation (THIS post by @kinoglowworm​ explains really well how possessive markers works in Kazakh language, if you wish to know more details).

And, if you thought the statue on the first panel was a random one..it was not! :P if you know me, you know I love Alain and Nathalie (JJ’s parents) maybe not as much as JJ, but pretty damn close so...I had to include their fairytale in this! After all, Jean and Otabek are strolling in the Royal Gardens of the Maple Kingdom, so a statue celebrating the love between the current King and Queen of the Maple Kingdom was kind of mandatory right?

So excited for the @yoiroyaltyzine! Here’s my preview, featuring His Majesty, King Victor, and Yuuri, his shy but sweet royal gardener:

Yuuri likes his flowers frosted.

It’s an odd thing, Victor notes. His kingdom is icy enough as it is; past gardeners have usually gone out of their way to melt the snow off his blooms. But Yuuri only seems to encourage it, swiping his fingers along the rims of daffodils as he walks the rows, a pretty smile playing at his lips.

Victor follows after—not at all furtive—and admires the handiwork: the meticulous geometric patterns lain along the petals.

But when he tries to compliment Yuuri, the man merely sputters and finds an excuse to scamper away under the guise of “getting back to work,” scrubbing at the various shades of blue that somehow always seem to stain his cheeks.

We’re finally allowed to share our pieces for the @yoiroyaltyzine Majesties! With Covid delaying everything, and a new job to distract me, I had actually forgotten what my piece looked like ^^;

Yuuri the court artist was commissioned to paint King Viktor, but he keeps getting distracted by those lonely eyes... luckily the King thinks Yuuri’s reactions are adorable~

I also did a bookmark for this zine which I will post another time so keep an eye out!

I tried to answer 3 to an anon, wrote a detailed answer and everything, and tumblr just said nope not posting. Second attempt!

3. Favorite line/scene you wrote this year

So I'm warning: this is from Safeword, a NSFW fic with pretty heavy warnings, please mind the tags.

But if you want to read the fic, read it before you read the part I'm quoting. Because the context makes it what it is. So I consider it a spoiler.

This scene is one that I could envision so clearly, and it felt very powerful to me. When some readers said they felt the same, I loved it even more.

The laptop screen slams shut and Viktor jumps. Yuuri's hand is there, its shape becoming more defined as Viktor's eyes adjust to the dark. The ring glints up at him.

"Vitya," Yuuri says, his eyes wide, "what are you doing?"

This is Yuuri interrupting Viktor's emotional self harm and on one of my edit rereads, a few months after I first wrote this, I wasn't expecting it and it made me kinda shiver.

10. Shortest WIP of the year.

"For a Sweater." Fake dating Viktuuri where I try to be funny, inspired entirely by a tweet. I only have a few paragraphs and I think they are kinda amusing. But I don't know how to make funny work so I'm scared to continue.

22. Events you participated in this year.

As an author, only a YOI Pride zine. I wrote a fic about GNC Viktor reclaiming things he lost to fame and public image with Yuuri's support. I really love that fic, even if I think some of the dialogue in the end is a bit clunky.

23. Fics you wanted to write but didn't.

Rebuilding Your World as It Crumbles. My royalty au. I wrote a draft for the first chapter but that doesn't mean much when I've been wanting to write it since 2018. I'm just very scared of the scale of it, and the possibility it won't live up to what I want it to be. Hopefully I'll get past that next year!!
