I tried posting this and more photos yesterday, but you know how tumblr hates to work properly.

Jackie, the cat that taught me to like cats, left this planet last night.

However, I'm sure he will still be haunting the porch intimidating dogs on the sidewalk and hoping to get pets from delivery drivers and customers picking up their orders.

We are very sad, but we knew this was coming with the progression of his kidney disease. Jackie has had a long and wonderful existence and has touched the lives of so many of our friends, housemates, and houseguests over the years. He's appeared in numerous zines and shared porch chats with many folks who have visited from all over the world.

He's been our #catboss since moving the shop back into the house during the pandemic and I'm so happy to have had these years working from home to spend more of it with him, even if he kept stealing my chair.

If you had the pleasure of meeting this handsome and distinguished creature, you were lucky.

FYI Sophie went in for a checkup. With all her issues and diagnoses I really should be taking her in for bloodwork more often but I just cannot afford it, and I mean. What am I even going to do with more bloodwork anyway? I also cannot afford any additional medication for her if it shows something else is going on.

Sigh, I hate this junk, right back to where I was six years ago having to budget my paychecks to save up for her vet bills.

Oh well. The good news is that despite everything she has going on, she still seems to be doing quite well. Her cancer diagnosis was just about one year ago exactly and she still seems to be doing good, really no noticeable changes, oh except for the fact that a few months ago she went on strike and absolutely refuses to eat any more of her prescription wet food for her kidneys. Since her kidneys have been mostly unchanged over the last god what, six years now??? I said fuck it and I’m just feeding her regular food now, I’m not going to fight with a senior cat in palliative care, she can eat whatever the hell she wants.

She’s still the absolute most perfect well behaved patient at the vet as well. Good girl.

Best cat in the world, best little buddy, little old lady cat. No clue what I ever did to deserve having her for a friend for 14 years.
