I’m glad I found your post. All the other posts I found about the movie cancellation wasn’t as in depth as your posts. I eventually was able to come to the same conclusion as you did but I didn’t realize the screening didn’t go well. 😮‍💨I remember it taking place in Japan and I regretted not being able to just go to Japan and see it. I just don’t understand how the trailer flopped, I feel like the trailer/teaser in 2020 did fairly well online with 4 million views

The trailer really flopped, and it wasn't even a surprise to most people. It's just that because people in the Eng fandom have limited access to info, it's easier to dismiss all bad things as made up (unrelated, but like people believe that all the unsavory tweets by Mitsurou are made up, but they aren't... Quite the opposite, they are very in-character for her public persona), and only focus on the good stuff, while the reality was that YoI fandom in Jp was and still is known as being quite unhinged to put it mildly.

The trailer flopped mainly because fujoshis simply moved from YoI to the next popular thing (now they are probably like 4 or 5 ships further) and a lot of people, who stayed in the fandom were those people, who treat YoI as nothing more but inspiration for VicYuu porn anyway, so they didn't want to see their 'seme' character in a frilly skirt. Some people also felt that the fandom is just too cursed and left (constant complaining that official merch is shit, official arts are shit and not VicYuu, making fun of artists that drew those arts, Mitsurou-hating, Avex-hating, other staff members-hating, prequel movie-hating, because how dare they make a prequel movie about feminine Victor? YoI should be just a nice playground for VicYuu fujos! The creators should just bend their knees and stop being difficult 😡).

Overall total 70722 out of 543937 seats sold during those 3 weeks - that's only 13%, even though in week 2 and 3, the number of seats was already reduced, because it was unprofitable to keep it at week 1 level (this is how it works - too many seats, the seats are reduced; too few seats, the seats are added). The data are from here. It's a very unfair comparison, but the last Eva eg. did around 250000 on day one, even though it was Monday, iirc. JJK almost 800000... on day one. Conan today has 180000, even though it's its 4th week.

Just imagine how much IceAdo would cost to produce, taking into consideration that they asked multiple Olympic-level skaters for choreography and the budget was planned when YoI was hyper popular.

1. why did you choose your url?

i wanted a new fandom penname and at the time adjective + noun names were a thing. i fiddled with several different variations, tried and failed to acquire kaleidoscopicmoonrise at the time (it's mine now!!), and landed on this one. i wanted something a little spooky, especially since soul eater was my fandom at the time - though it doesn't feel like it now that my icon is a lot more sane-looking lmfao

uh. yeah. a stupid amount (like 30+?), so i'm definitely not naming them all. most active are obviously this howl blog, my main blog @commandersya, this one for danny phantom and gravity falls stuff, @howlingspacegoo gets some activity every now and then when venom stuff resurfaces, and some others i use for reblogging specific reference stuff. most of the rest are for fandom events i've run in the past.

3. how long have you been on tumblr?

since like 2011-2012. i've seen it all.

4. do you have a queue tag?

lmao absolutely not. i don't use the queue function, though on occasion i'll schedule posts to space them out when i'm going through a tag in order not to reblog all of it at once, or for specific dates like halloween

this one was for soul eater writing purposes. tumblr in general was because my cousin dragged me into it and then i realized there was a lot of bandom stuff in here (i was really into black veil brides for my first year or two on tumblr)

6. why did you choose your icon/pfp?

i broke ties with the soul eater fandom in a not great way and wanted to change my icon. yoi provided the perfect yuri expression with the kind of benevolent dictator smile i really like, despite that not being the original intent for it when the animators drew it ✊😔

i had to check my header real quick lmfao. jason todd is just an excellent blorbo and when a good artist draws him.... 👀👀👀

Trick or treat? (For the ficwip game!)

We know from Yuri on Ice ep 12 that Stéphane Lambiel won silver at the Torino Olympics. Year not stated onscreen; in RL this was 2006. RL Lambiel also came in fourth in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

One of Victor's gold medals seen in ep 10 looks suspiciously like the ones handed out in 2006 in Torino.

We know from the Ice Adolescence preview trailer that ten years before the show, Victor participated in the Olympics in Paris.

Conclusion: Stéphane Lambiel won silver in Torino in 2010. Victor may have won gold in both 2006 and Torino, we're unlikely to know until we actually get Ice Adolescence, but he definitely won gold in at least one of the two.

(Evgeni Plushenko and Daisuke Takahashi, who took two of the 2010 medals in RL, probably don't exist in YOI; if Evan Lysacek does, then probably something about competing against Victor knocked him down to bronze or below. Christophe Giacometti may or may not have medaled at the 2010 or 2014 Olympics, but probably not both; the fact Victor remarked on sharing multiple Grand Prix Final, Europeans, and Worlds podiums with Chris tells me they have never shared multiple Olympics podiums and may never have shared the Olympics podium at all.)

And since 2006 Paris Olympics is far from the only example of YOI setting an event somewhere other than where the RL event that year was: in order to avoid having two significant-to-Yuuri competitions in Sochi, I can move the 2014 Olympics to wherever I like! Since one of the losing bids for the RL 2014 Olympics was Jaca, Spain, which lost partly because Spain was going to host only the mountain events in Jaca, with the ice events and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies in Zaragoza—the problem being that the bidding city has to host both those ceremonies—I have therefore switched Spain's 2014 bid from Jaca to Zaragoza.

Hi, I love your translations! The other day I was rewatching episode 2 and I was wondering whether Viktor's line "Let's sleep together" is as ambiguous in the Japanese version as it is in the subs. Would you mind sharing your thoughts on this?

Hi! Thank you for the ask! ✨

In Japanese, it's "一緒に寝よう", so the same - "Let's sleep together". And just like it English, "sleep with sb" can also mean "have sex with sb".

So, while the way Victor says that line isn't particularly suggestive and it makes perfect sense if it's understood to mean just that - "let's sleep in the same room/bed", I 100% believe that when you re-watch the show knowing about the banquet, it's meant to make you wonder what on Earth had happened there in Sochi, that made Victor want to sleep in Yuuri's bed on his first night in Hasetsu, like it's the most natural thing to do ever... And yeah, he probably didn't want to just sleep in this new context😔

A bit off topic, but that line also shows, imo, a very interesting thing about Victor's personality - that when he is faced with something he doesn't really know how to deal with, he turns to "physical connection".

Yuuri reacts to him in a way that he didn't expect and runs away in ep. 2 -> "Let's sleep together", don't know what to do to calm Yuuri down in ep. 7 -> "Should I kiss you?"

And well, I think the same also happened in ep. 12. Yuuri wants to break up with him -> Victor's hand on Yuuri's shoulder aaaand... cut. He also wears very loose clothes in both ep. 2 and 12, that you can get off in no time, especially the bathrobe in ep. 12.

Just my opinion, but I think that YoI really is even more erotic when you look at little details like that.
