More Uro nagging Sou thoughts

aka really like the thought of Urotsuki teasing Sou via 2000s music [and i indirectly state my age] so jotting random scenarios

Someone mentions a diary and she's like, "A diary? Whoooooo's diary is it? Is it Jane's diary? The Diiiiiiiarry of Jaaaane?" then very loudly follows up with singing/screaming, "SOMETHINGS GETTING IN THE WAY, SOMETHINGS JUST ABOUT TO BREAK, I WILL TRY TO FIND MY PLACE IN THE DIARY OF JANE SO TELL ME HOW IT SHOULD BEEEEEEEEEEE" while Sou just groans and slumps on the couch in the next room over.

If Sou somehow just says, "If" and pauses he gets, "If what? There is nothing you can do that I have not already done to myself~" or "You seem lost, poor baby I'm gonna make it all okay". or some other MSI reference. [Sou regrets throwing away the bags when he went grocery shopping earlier]

Sometimes she knows Sou's somewhere close so she starts loudly singing random love/heartache songs like, "I LOVE YOU, I HATE YOU, I JUST CAN'T LIVE WITHOUT YOU! I LEFT MY HEAD AROUND YOUR HEART, WHY WOULD YOU TEAR MY WORLD APAAAAAAAART?" and he just sighs deeply. One time Tats was with him and got really confused and concerned like, "I-is there something going on between you two?" and Sou was just, "NO."

AND THEN one time Sabi one-ups her and comes out of nowhere while she's singing with the, "You'd give a fucking aspirin a headache." line, to which Sou does that shocked shoulders jerk and hand goes over mouth while choking down laugh and Uro looks like she got ice-watered to the face.

on a cuter note one time he wasn't paying attention and starting humming or quietly singing a song to some older less known band [like SKSK? idk i'd kill to hear him sing Star Crossed] and she flips out like, "YOU'VE HEARD OF THEM?" and gets really excited/happy and he gets flustered that someone overheard him or something.

pondering… i’m not sure if i wanna do my ynfg completely alone or get some minor help for sprite assets…

i also want to do blood pharmacy at some point. maybe i’ll make that after the possible momotan survival horror game!

this was my plan for the blood pharmacy area, but the individual tile size is uneven i’m p sure… which is a very big setback honestly i’ll probably have to individually re adjust the tilesets

i’m still proud of this drawing tbh. i looked at the project file and apparently each limb is on a different layer. i was probably going to animate it?

these were mockups of what i wanted the game to look like. i doubt it’d be easy to do this in rpgmaker, at least not the GUI. but i do still want to find an engine that can replicate this perfectly while being able to make RPGs with tilesets.

the gist of the game was pretty simple, you’d go around playing as momotan and collecting pills. you would mix and match and try the different effects of these pills. if you died, you’d respawn and be able to pick up from where you left off. i don’t remember much else

some WIP assets from my ynfg. angetsuki’s effects aren’t fully sprited yet. and i haven’t come up with all of them yet either. but the right image is a preview of what some of them will be

I'm a really big fan of Tomb Of Velleities – Lunar Sanctuary. I've only been there once, but it felt really special!! Someone on YNO helped guide me there :D

I also really like Pure White Lands, Home Within Nowhere, and all those general connecting areas like Adabana Gardens and Lamplit Stones and Field of Cosmos

I also really like strawberry milk sea!!

Another really nostalgic personal fave is the dark museum. I've been playing 2kki since around 2015-2016 ish? So that's a world that existed even back then. I remember being so spooked and thinking it was so cool, omg

now that collective unconscious is out, i'd like to give everyone who visited my worlds (and who liked them) a very, very warm thank you. this project, in general, couldn't have existed without your support

i also want to thank the streamers who featured my content on their streams, especially scarlet river. you have no idea how genuinely happy that makes me. i've seen about three wild sightings of that world on streams and seeing them made me genuinely so happy

though i will admit, i am a bit upset by sweets circus being compared to tadc

Long post but I need to put this out there ig please read it fully if you have any interest in my non fandom posting or my art direction in the future

I'm going to try and work on my art more, I'd like to be able to finally make stuff for myself that I can enjoy now without relying on others for that.

This also means i will probably be redesigning many of my ocs. My sona and some newer guys are the only ones that will stay the same but will also have secondary designs.

Also I do not plan on ever finishing AB anymore, it no longer interests me as it brings back bad memories. All ocs from it will be most heavily redesigned and repurposed for a new story or scrapped, though litan is my only guarantee that will have a new story as I associate her with my online friends who are important to me

My main stories currently are Dysphoric Wishes (also more so community, I'd love for others to join in on the project), Project BIBLICAL (this is my sona's story and is extremely personal but I'm working on explaining it and publishing it, I'm not an sane or mentally stable person and I need a place to vent my frustrations at the world), and finally Wired Angels. I also have a fourth project that isn't ready for publication yet.

If you haven't noticed I care a lot more about other media than my own and I'd like to fix that and make something I'm truly happy with and proud of. Also, most of my hyperfixations will definitely influence my works more than they have before as I think that would help me find more appeal in my own work

Also, I plan on finishing my game wips. I have a lot and I want to finally finish some. Dysphoric wishes will have a vn followed by a ynfg, the vn will be lucidete centered and the ynfg will come out once I have enough people in the project to have enough of an world to build off of. Project BIBLICAL will consist of bullet hells once I am talented enough to make one, and Wired Angels shall also be a vn despite being a ynfg, as I think it'd be interesting. I also do have a few other vns of other stories I'd like to finish.

Sorry for rambling but it's now dawned on me after reading something that I've always hated what I make and have never truly liked any of it and I need to stop relying so heavily on others

im glad you asked. well... holy fuck, i could talk about yume nikki for hours!! but... if i had to summarize it down, heere are some points:

its yume nikki!!! such a unique and different game from anything ive seen, even with its fangames. well if you look back at the gaming scene in 2004, then something like an rpg maker game thats NOT an rpg and actually a weird surrealism thingy was kind of crazy. it does seem to be inspired by the mother series, which has a lot of weird artsy stuff and also lsd dream emulator, also a game where you walk in dreams, which is self explanatory. also it utilizes rpgmaker mechanics in SUCH mindblowing ways, it doesnt even feel like it was made with it. it flows VERY well for a 2004 indie game.

the atmosphere and theming is so awesome. the NPCs who are completely indifferent to you, the worlds all connectin g together, etc. also, the art and music is really charming in kind of a nostalgic way, the aztec inspirations for the npcs, all the different sights and how desolate and lonely it feels, yet kind of still comforting. you know?? like the dreamworld is an escapism for madotsuki, but she still cant escape the horrors of reality..............

3. every part of it is very mysterious. a whole intigue of the game for many people has been what the dreams are really about!! of course there is also the developer kikiyama, who theres practically 0 info on. even though obviously people should respect their privacy, people still wonder what happened or why the game never got finished. i hope they're well....

4. the fanbase of yume nikki is one of the most cool ones ive seen. its one of those old fandoms from back in the 2000s that never stopped going, like touhou.. you can find a lot of old short little animations of yume nikki. theres the big viewed ones, but also ive found really obscure ones with under a 1000 viws, which shows how much people cared about it. even though the game was seen as dark, they were often really wholesome. theres also yume nikki fansites from back then, and a lot of cool fanart. even though the fandom was fairly small, its kind of like a window to how different the internet used to be. now its even more popular with internet horror stuff being more noticed recently.

its just really kind of heartwarming that so many people connected with a short game about isolation and anxiety posted on some forum site back in 2004 by an unknown person, i think.

5. the fangames!!!!!!!! there are so many fangames for this game, all because people liked the idea so much, hundreds of them wanted to try making one. ynfgs are always really charming to play, however none of them compare to yume 2kki ( the big one). its the closest ive ever felt to going to another world in a video game, even more than yume nikki itself.

because so many people have worked on it, 2kki has an endless seeming amount of content which is pretty awesome. some people think its incoherent because of how big the game is, but it always made it feel more like a dream to me. especially like one you would have as a child, falling asleep while being driven home from a birthday party or something like htat. fun fact: 2kki got started in 2007, before the final yume nikki update, which means there is a chance kikiyama might have even played it, which is pretty crazy...

Dreamers as tumblr users AU

Mado posts a bunch of art and music with zero tags or description and is famous somehow, she's kinda seen as a cryptid.

Uro throws everything on one blog [anime gifs, recipes, goofy animal vids that she always tags as #THISISMEEEE, funky tunes, ect], she's amassed a large following due to unhinged text posts and drawings of cursed lil guys

Sabi has a gore/macabre horror blog, sometimes posts selfies in goth outfits that Uro reblogs and gushes over in the tags

Sou does gothic writing stuff, he's the kind that takes the writing prompt of the day sorta stuff and runs with it. Also gives long thought out advice when asked and is surprisingly chill. Uro posted a selfie with him once [his face was censored with a cat sticker] and people lost their mind

Tats/Lefia share a blog and sign their post with either ᘛ⁐ᕐᐷ or ⊹₊♚₊⊹ to show who's posting. It's overall really cute stuff but sometimes Tats posts a bunch of depressing shit out of the blue and freaks people out.

Muma and Sometsuki have really simple blogs full of bunnies with random aesthetic posts here and there. Sometsuki's has lo-fi with violin bgm

more random interactions under cut cause I don't wanna drop a tolkein novel of dreamer thoughts in tags.

The closest thing anyone's ever gotten to Mado speaking was when Uro asked if she likes cats and she replied with, "ↀᆺↀ"

People begged Uro to get Mado to say more and she always responds with absurd nonsense like, "I cannot force the Mado to speak, she offers her words as blessings and we should be thankful for when she graces us."

Sometimes Uro's a clown on Tat's post and Tats just responds with "ᘛ⁐ᕐᐷ ✂"

Sabi and Tats did a Silent Hill cosplay together one time [Sabi was Heather Mason, Tats was some little monster child]. People still get surprised every time Tats shows their horror fan side.

Sabi sometimes makes edits/art as covers for Sou's writing and vice versa

It's hilarious seeing Sou's more serious/somber posts get broken up by him responding to some nonsense from Uro like, "Every day I wonder what I did to deserve your acquaintanceship." [uro just replies with, "aw, you know you love me~"]

Muma somehow has a thing like shimeji set up on her blog so you can interact with the little bunnies on it.

Like seriously, go check out the yume nikki online project... You can play a bunch of the fangames without having to mess about with locale settings, and it's so much fun to randomly run into another person while exploring

Out of my friend group, I think I’m always that one who kind of sits in the background but could give you a thousand different facts on random obscure things if you asked.

I’ve drafted up a massive YNFG crossover AU involving even Miso Nikki. It has endings, a plot, and ties a bunch of fangames together for a coherent story (and a season two is in development!) involving a body-surfing entity causing surrealistic dreamworlds to spawn in the minds of those she possesses. I would have named it Nexus Syndrome, but that’s already been taken by another YNFG author.

Feel free to ask about it, if you’re interested. I have to properly do actual designs for it.

Hoping that ‘add two cents’ includes throwing out other recommendations heh.

Assuming smaller and easily navigated worlds and fairly straight forward to collect effects constitutes a game being considered good for beginners. Although most these don’t have endings and would rec playing them after you get used to menus since none have english versions. not entirely sure if they count as underrated too.

Felt need to include screencaps so might be a tad long heh sorz

Both the artwork and music are phenomenal, worlds are really interesting and make the exploration really fun. There’s a few mazes that can be a bit confusing but otherwise pretty easy.

withers Think experience wise this is one of the closer ones to og yume nikki. Could be very loosely described as a much softer .flow [though would prefer not to compare the two that much as there’s plenty of difference that clearly sets them apart]

Nobetsu Maku Nashi Falls on the newer side [December 2021] and very much so obscure side since am yet to see anyone else talk about it. There’s not a whole lot but what’s there is beautiful. Think the panorama [?] in one of the worlds is bugged but haven’t run into any problems otherwise. Personally like it a lot, one of favorite newer fangames.

↻ THE HARDEST PART OF THIS GAME IS FINDING THE UNICODE FOR NAME WHY IS IT NAMED THAT WHY. Anyhow it’s a really simple and small game but find something about it charming. The dev also made Yume Mitai and Natsume Kokochi; not sure about NK as it has a calendar system and such but would say Yume Mitai is similar.

Neko Yume Douchuuki It’s small, it’s cute, you play as a cat. Does anything else really need to be said? Dev also made 【Narcolepsy】and though not as cute and still early in development would say its similar.

BRAINGIRL Honestly have no idea if this should be considered or not since its so different from rest. The exploration element is still there but rather than collecting effects it’s far more focused on world complexity [?] and interaction, which out of all fangames think this one by far excels at. Effects are a bit harder to find but again not as big as a focus as other games.

nostAlgic I thiiink wasnt as labyrinthine as some ynfgs are - I think it's also the only one on this list to have an actual ending atm, I know sometimes just having a clear end point is more enjoyable than wandering aimlessly

Ultra Violet maybe? I didn't have too much trouble finding effects

Fleshchild has more of a structured story progression along with puzzles that a newcomer might find more compelling than non-linear exploration style that most games tend to have

Re:In is absolutely breath taking and I don't think there's too much wandering around - if you're going to check it out don't download the newest version, get 0.00, the new update was sort of an anniversary thing and doesn't make much sense if you're new to it.

Daughter too is another one in the earlier stages but if anything I guess it makes it a bit easier to navigate, it's definitely one I'm soft on

also I advise that if ever you start feeling frustrated and lost as opposed to relaxed, don't be afraid of looking up a guide - YNFGs can be very obtuse and sometimes it's less heartache just to look up what you're supposed to do
