“I’m Looking…”
ANOTHER READER X ZENITSU
(I’m in love with my little clementine if you didn’t realize.)
IN WHICH YOU TAKE A TRIP BACK TO THE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT
ENJOY!
————————————————————————
Zenitsu was going to die. He was sure of it. He couldn’t get himself to breathe normally, even sprawled out on the ground like a star. He suddenly missed Rengoku, who had to leave him and his friends at the hands of Tengen, as he was busy with a mission. At least Rengoku took pity on them and bought them food after their training. It all made sense now, why you had passed out the one time they had come to visit Tengen’s estate.
While the rest of his friends talked as they caught their breaths, Zenitsu busied his mind with cursing Tengen and all of his ancestors.
Screw you, and your pretty wives, and your father, and your grandfather, and your grandfather’s grandfather-
Tanjiro had asked the group which mission location they would like to return to if they could.
None of them, Zenitsu thought to himself. If he ever saw any of those places again, it would be too soon.
“I want to ride the train again. I’ve never moved so fast without MOVING! We were like, zoom!” Inosuke stood up, sprinting in circles around them to demonstrate. Zenitsu heard your giggle and Tanjiro’s soft chuckle.
“What about you?” Tanjiro asked. Zenitsu glanced at you as you leaned back on your arms and quirked your head in thought.
“Hmm, if I could go back…” you smiled wishfully. “The Entertainment District.”
All of their eyes widened. Even Zenitsu shot up into a sitting position. “THE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT? WHERE WE FOUGHT THE CREEPY DOUBLE-DEMON DEMON?” He cried out.
You nodded. “Well, yeah. Uzui-san had said a lot about how beautiful it was when it wasn’t under attack. I just, wish we could’ve seen that side of it.” You sighed. Zenitsu had gone quiet. You, wanted to see the Entertainment District? He hadn’t thought you’d be someone who enjoyed places like that. He smiled mischeviously.
“I have an idea.”
~~~~
“No.” Tengen turned away. Zenitsu’s face fell. “What?” He followed after the giant man like a puppy.
Tengen stopped, Zenitsu smacking into his back.
Why did that feel like hitting a wall? Zenitsu rubbed his nose.
You looked at him sympathetically; he was trying very hard. You, Inosuke, and Tanjiro were hiding by the entrance to the training yard while Zenitsu attempted to convince the hashira. Tengen turned around. “It’s too dangerous now. Besides, you begged me to never send you back there again after we got back from the last mission.”
Tanjiro made a choked sound as he kept himself from laughing, Inosuke also clapping a hand over his own mouth as he let out a muffled chortle. You grinned. Zenitsu let out an exasperated groan. “Yeah- but, now I want to see it, since we defeated that demon. Besides,” Zenitsu retorted.
“Didn’t you say you were the God of Festivities? I really haven’t seen you live up to your title yet. That’s rather, unflashy, don’t you think?” He placed a finger to his chin, eyes gauging Tengen’s reaction.
~~~~
They all sat around Tengen in a half circle, his wives sitting by his side.
For some reason (Uzui-san wouldn’t tell them why), they were back in the Entertainment District. This time, his wives were safe and at his side. “I want to show you all my domain when it isn’t infested with demons. I want to give you a festivity for working so hard.” He had told them when they asked what the purpose of the trip was.
Zenitsu had given his friends a knowing wink.
Now they were listening to Tengen’s ground rules, Tanjiro and his wives nodding along enthusiastically. Zenitsu let out a fake yawn.
“I’m bored~” he whined. “If the demons won’t kill me, then your spiel will.” Tengen glared at him.
“What? I’m just saying. We’re not kids, we understand simple rules. Don’t follow strangers, don’t get in fights, be back at this building for the fire works, blah blah blah.” Zenitsu waved his hand around lazily. You stared at him. Did he have a death wish? “You should just let me leave to explore.” He shrugged.
Tengen merely narrowed his eyes. Clearly the kid was underestimating his sharp intuition. Zenitsu had been acting odd, ever since he asked to come to the Entertainment District. What was the reason? Besides the impending threat of demons, what was different now compared to last time? Tengen was quiet as he thought.
What was--?
It hit him. Zenitsu would’ve never come here of his own volition, and he doubted Tanjiro or Inosuke had been itching to come back either. So it must be, you. He was here for you.
Things began falling in place. Tengen’s eyes slid from you to Zenitsu. “Right.” He drawled. Tengen leaned back, crossing his arms. “Very well.” He looked at you. “You’re going with him. Make sure he doesn’t get himself into anything stupid while I finish talking to them.” He pointed at Tanjiro, Inosuke and his wives.
You nodded as Zenitsu stood up excitedly. “Great! See you guys in a bit.” He waved as he began to exit, you following not far behind him. Inosuke began to stand too.
“Not you.” Tengen warned. Inosuke turned slowly towards him.
“WHAT?!”
~~~~
Overwhelming. It was the only thing you could think as you took in all the sights and sounds on the street. Overwhelming in the way an ocean washed a person with an overwhelming sense of peace. Or in the way your family overwhelms you with happiness. Or a field of flowers overwhelms you with it’s lovely sweetness.
There were dancers swaying to music that followed behind them as the marching musiciens seemed to hypnotize them. There were artists, displaying the gorgeous whorls and streaks of color on their canvases. There were magicians, performing tricks for anyone who walked past.
And there were booths upon booths of mouth watering food. You may not have had any money, but your giddy appearance and glowing eyes were enough to convince the vendors to give you small plates of whatever you wanted. Zenitsu however, was not having the same luck. So he stuck to you, picking off your plate like a little orange scavenger. It made you laugh.
You did not let a single event slip past you, prancing with the dancers for a bit, complimenting artists for their talent, in awe of the small tricks the magicians displayed. It was quite refreshing for Zenitsu to see you so carefree, since it seemed you rarely let yourself feel that way.
~~~~
The both of you arrived at a booth by a wide river. Displayed at the booth was jewelry; beautiful necklaces of jade, rubies, and pearls. Bracelets of neatly carved stones of all kinds. You tugged Zenitsu closer to the booth, looking at the jewelry in fascination. You didn’t have much jewelry, it wasn’t smart to wear any when fighting. Zenitsu watched you carefully. Your eyes didn’t budge from one of them. A bracelet of twine with different shades of orange stones woven into a tight pattern. It was very beautiful, and would be easy to wear even when fighting, as you could tell it would wrap securely around your wrist.
The vendor caught you staring at the bracelet. “Do you like it?” He asked curiously. You flinched, nodding shyly.
“It’s a very beautiful piece.” You admitted. He grinned at you.
“In a few minutes, everyone gathered around the booth will participate in stone skipping.” He pointed at the people by the river. “Whoever can skip their stone the farthest, gets to pick a jewelry of their choice to take with them.” You nodded with a small smile, the excitement in your eyes from earlier flickering.
I don’t know how to skip rocks.
As you were lost in thought, Zenitsu scouted for a smooth pebble around the booth. He found one, tossing it and snatching it out of the air with an easy smile. “Thank you sir.” Zenitsu bowed. The man nodded at him in acknowledgement.
You caught up to Zenitsu who strode away confidently. “What are you doing?” You whispered softly. He looked at you with a grin.
“What do you mean? I’m going to skip this stone.” Your eyebrows rose.
“You can do that?” Zenitsu chuckled. “I lived by a river when I was younger. Skipping rocks was basically the only thing I’d do all day.” You nodded slowly.
You and Zenitsu stood beside the line of people by the river. It was wider than it had looked from by the booth, and it made you wonder if Zenitsu could really get it farther than anyone else.
People beside you started tossing the rocks at the water, some of them making it a decent distance, while some just plopped and faded away into the abyss. But the energy of the crowd didn’t fade, everyone seemed to be having fun. Finally, it was Zenitsu’s turn.
You gave his arm a gentle squeeze, and he looked at you with a confident gaze. “Watch.” He muttered.
Zenitsu took a deep breath.
Thunder Breathing.
You didn’t even notice the stone as it flew out of his hand, fast enough that you were certain a spark came off of his fingertips. He was crouched, watching the stone zip quickly over the water. His smile began to grow as it passed where other stones had sunk.
It had passed them, and was almost at the other side.
The crowd’s cheering began to get louder as the rock got closer to the other end of the river. It finally landed in the grass, and the crowd broke out into whoops and shouts, some people clapping Zenitsu on the shoulder. “Great throw son!” You heard people yell at him.
You squealed with giddiness, skipping in circles around Zenitsu. “You did it, you did it, you DID it!” You gave him a quick hug, body buzzing with excitement. Zenitsu beamed, matching your energy. The both of you walked back to the booth, the man watching Zenitsu in surprise.
“Well kid, you definitely earned this one.” He said with a grin as Zenitsu pointed at the bracelet you were looking at earlier. “I would like that one.”
How had he known…?
The man handed it to him. Zenitsu bowed gratefully, turning to you. “Here.” He grabbed your hand, lifting your arm. He gently wrapped the bracelet around your wrist. “So you don’t forget how far I skipped that rock.” You giggled at his teasing.
The bracelet glowed as you tilted your arm back and forth. The orange rocks would serve as a constant reminder of Zenitsu. You smiled at the thought.
~~~~
Finally, it was time for the fireworks. Zenitsu grabbed the sleeve of your kimono as he ran, pulling you with him. You two made it to the building just in time, Tengen and the rest of your friends waiting for you by the door.
Tengen led you up to the roof of the building. You showed off your bracelet to your friends as Inosuke showed off his string necklace (it was a necklace strung with dumplings, but Inosuke had already devoured them), and Tanjiro pulled out a soft green scarf that he bought Nezuko for the winter. Everyone had enjoyed their time in their own way, even Tengen and his wives, their faces colored with beautiful matching designs.
The first sparks in the sky silenced their conversations, and you gasped as you watched the fireworks fall to the earth like a colorful rain. It fascinated you, you had never seen them so close.
“It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?” You tugged on Zenitsu’s sleeve to get his attention. But you didn’t notice that his attention was already on you. He watched the glitter in your eyes as you stared in wonder at the light show before you.
“Yeah, it is.” He agreed softly. You hadn’t looked at him yet. “Zenitsu! Look there, look there!” You pointed at each firework that went off.
“I’m looking…” Zenitsu was looking, just not at what you were pointing to. Tengen saw him watching you out of the corner of his eye.
The fireworks lit up the dark sky, each one a color that you didn’t realize existed. Some even two different colors at once.
They sparkled beautifully, practically like stars.
Your eyes, that is. The fireworks were okay too, Zenitsu thought with a soft smile. He didn’t realize Tengen had gotten closer to him, putting a hand on his jaw and making him face the fireworks. It made Zenitsu’s face burn with embarrassment, having been caught staring like that. But Tengen only dawned a knowing smile. “Don’t miss the moment.” He whispered to the kid.
Zenitsu nodded absentmindedly, allowing himself to move just a bit closer to you. No, he wouldn’t miss the moment. In fact, he’d probably never forget it.
————————————————————————
Author’s Note: Listen, if Akaza can have a romantic moment watching fireworks, you and Zenitsu can too 😤 anyways, UGH IM SO IN LOVE W HIM I SWEAR. I hope I continue to make you fall farther in love with the soft squish that is Zenitsu. Also, we love a supportive Tengen ;-; Till next time lovelies!!
heyy ,i have a request. You dont have to do it if you dont want to , i was just wondering if you could do kny main three reacting to you taking care of them when they're sick, and you both live together so its domestic stuff❤️
Hey Anon! of course I can! I also love reverse comfort! I also included some (Most) of the Hashira!
Gender Neutral Reader (I tried)
Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, Giyuu Tomioka, Kyojuro Rengoku, Tengen Uzui, Sanemi Shinazugawa, Mitsuri Kanroji
Split into 2 parts
SORRY THAT IT TOOK SO LONG!!! 😖😖😖
this is Part 1
TANJIRO KAMADO
Tanjiro had just gotten back from a mission up in the cold snow capped mountains.
He was so pale and so cold.
You already had made Kelp Rice Balls for him for dinner but Soba looked more better for him.
You instantly had Tanjiro go to bed, Much to his dismay.
He wanted to cuddle you, love you!
But you flatly refused!
Poor boy...
"darling- I just want to hold you please?" Tanjiro whined. You looked over and saw him trying to get off of the shikibuton. "Tanjiro- please, you need to rest! you are too cold!" You said. He reached to grab you, but he fell weak on the ground. A horrible cough left his throat. "Tanjiro!" you went straight to his side. "Can I hold you now please?" he weakly asked. "after you eat your soba, I don't care if I have to feed you myself" You said sternly, he smiled, "alright"
ZENITSU AGATSUMA
let me tell you.
if this boy woke up with food poisoning (mostly because of Inosuke) he'd beg you for attention, love and care.
but if he returned back from a mission deathly cold and shivering his ass off...
he'd still beg for attention, love and care.
this man BEGS for TLC, and if he's sick? the whining is SOOOOOO much worse.
he'll accept all your lectures about: How to avoid Inosuke's horrible cooking
or: how to put more damn clothes on to avoid getting a cold!
"gorgeous! please! I need your love!" He begged. "NO! you need to learn how to not- get off of me! I'm trying to be mean!" you groaned as he gripped onto you tightly. "You cant be mean to me! I didn't mean too I promise!" he cried. You groaned as he gripped onto you tighter. "Please! I promise I wont do it again! I'm sorry! please just comfort me!" he sobbed loudly. you finally gave in and comforted him for the rest of the night and the next day.
INOSUKE HASHIBIRA
this boy REFUSED to admit he was unwell until he ended up being put in Shinobu's medical wing.
he refused to allow you to see his face.
the Boar head stayed on.
It took Shinobu threatening him to let him show you his face.
and oh dear- he wasn't sick.
he was stabbed.
he had time to move his organs around.
which was the only good thing.
"Inosuke- you need to look after yourself more!" you said with teary eyes. "I'm totally fine!" he said, he coughed and blood splattered all over the white sheets. "INOSUKE!" you exclaimed. "I'm fine! stop yelling in my ear ok?! I need to recover! that's what bug eyes said!" You gripped his hand "I thought I would lose you" You sobbed. he weakly held you hand. "I'll be ok, Bug Eyes said I'll recover soon and be home soon- I'll be home soon" he whispered.
GIYUU TOMIOKA
THIS MAN! HE REFUSES TO BE SICK! HE REFUSES ATTENTION! HE REFUSES EVERYTHING!!!
which frustrates you beyond belief!
he wont even take a stern talking to!
but after pushing you off to the side and being alone for an HOUR
he came up to you begging for cuddles.
poor boy loves your love and wont stop till he gets it!
and even then he still wants more.
"Giyuu? can you loosen your hold? please?" you mutter, trying desperately not to make his head ache worse. he only gave you a small whine in response before loosening his grip slightly. he didn't open his eyes, still trying desperately to fall asleep. you slowly rubbed his back in soothing circles. Giyuu hummed contently. "sweetie?" he grumbled, you looked down at him, but he was already sound asleep.
PART 2 SOON!!!
°•Zenitzu Agatsuma Dating Hcs•°
°•~《☆》~•°
A/n: this was requested by a friend :)
I probably won't be doing any demon slayer hcs after this soo... enjoy what you can!! Also the first few of these are their hcs in my own words!!
Warnings: curse words ig
°•~《☆》~•°
He has a overbite
Technically nothing to do with your relationship
But according to The Friend, it's Canon soo...
He makes you flower crowns
All the time.
Sad? Flower crown.
Mad at him? Flower crown.
Doing absolutely nothing at all? Flower crown.
Not just any flower crown
He would go out of his way to find your favorite flower
Cuz he loves you so much
He mightve just got back from doing God knows what
He's tired, worn out, exhausted.
But he's like
'Oh shit I have to make my s/o a flower crown.'
No matter how much you insist on him getting at least a one hour nap
He is making you that flower crown.
He probably makes you more than just flower crowns too
Any sort of craft he'll make for you
Probably matching bracelets tbh.
He will get scared at the most minor things
Snake? Scared.
Dog that seems slightly unfriendly? Scared.
Spider? Terrified.
But if your scared too?
He is a changed man
He is killing that spider like it was nothing
That snake actually isn't poisonous dw
Just step around the dog he can't hurt you
He spends all his free time with you
Every spare second he has is with you
He loves you so so so so much
He tells you he loves you every second and every day
In the mornings, afternoon, night
He's telling you just how much you mean to him
I mean full paragraphs long of how much he loves you
He will make a 100 slide power point presentation on why he loves you
(This has definitely happened once.)
He'll get anything for you too
If you need something, anything on short notice
You better believe he is rushing to get it
Anything for you
Because I'm like 90% positive this man has abandonment issues
Anyways
Like anything you do makes him short-circut
Like if you smile at him
Zenitzu.exe has stopped working
Kiss on the cheek
He's giggling deliriously
A long press to his lips
He's frozen for about 30 minutes
I mean he's just head over heels for you
Which could be a weakness for him
...
You've gotta remind this boy to put himself first sometimes
He needs that self care
And if someone else starts flirting with you
Or talking to you at all
He's right behind you
Just. Glaring sharp, sharp daggers at this person
if they make you uncomfortable
And you start getting fidgety, moving away
...
He's having a 'talk' with them
You stop him from killing anybody dw
He would kill someone for you tho
If he's ever on his own somewhere
Every second he's like
'I miss my wife/husband/spouse'
Even if you two aren't married
There isn't a difference to him
He marrying you. Period.
Like you can't leave him.
I mean one day of you do decide to break up with him (don't you fucking dare.)
He's just like 'nuh uh.'
"If you're tired of me, take a break. Spend some time alone. Then come back."
But let's be honest he's crying on the inside
He just can't lose you.
°•~《☆》~•°
That's all I'm feeding you.
Muzan Kitbutsuji x reader
Tumblr media
[Name] worked as a maid for the highly respected family of Muzan.
She was astonished when she gained a promotion to be Muzan's personal maid. He was meaner and colder than expected. And nonetheless rude af.
she didn't think she could ever get along with him but she was wrong they started talking and found out they had a lot in common.
Muzan started liking her and finally had a friend he could count on.
As they started getting closer both of them caught feelings for each other. They kept quiet until he had enough and confessed his love to her.
[name] was over the moon and madly in love.
they had to keep it a secret though it was apparent his family wouldn't support their relationship.
until one of the snakey maids snitched it to his parents.
[name] was called into the torture room and she had no idea why.
She was tortured for weeks on end and they barely gave her any food or water.
when she was released she was warned not to tell Muzan or they would kill her and she did exactly that.
she was terrified and tried avoiding Muzan as much as possible.
Kibutsuji kept notice of this and asked her what was wrong but she would shrug it off.
she was so distant now and timid. She had grown worryingly thin which concerned her lover.
When he had enough of her ignoring him, he grabbed her wrist as she hissed in pure agony.
his eyes met the fresh scars that littered her hand.
forcing [name] to tell what happened.
He was enraged. how could his own family do this to his lover?
anyhow he had to keep quiet for a while. Whenever his family was around he would look sick and would go pale.
His so-called family called a doctor for him and the doctor gave him some suspicious medicine which later would turn him into a demon.
He went psychopathic and killed everyone in the manor. except for his love, his maid.
she was terrified when she saw him covered in blood and wanted to get away from him. but he would pull her into a hug and tell her that this was good. they could finally be together.
Muzan and [name] were living in the moment until the demon found out he was vulnerable to the sun. he went to a witch and asked her what the treatment for his allergy to the sun was.
when he got her answer he immediately started turning humans into demons so that they could help him find the rare blue spider lily.
[name] didn't like this. she didn't like that her husband turned humans with a bad state of mind into human-eating creatures. she didn't like it even a bit. But she was too frightened of her husband to ask him to stop.
she would wait for her courage to show up and Muzan would continue turning more humans into demons.
one day, she snapped. She yelled at him to stop and told him they could find the flower together and free the demons he had in-volunteering kept captive
he did not approve of the idea at all. In fact, he was angry. when you started being stubborn, he started yelling at you gripping your small face compared to his massive hands.
"DON'T YOU GET IN [NAME]?" IM DOING THIS FOR YOU AND ME!" he screamed
what he didn't realize was that his grip on you was too tight. And he was insanely strong and he accidentally crushed your skull.
when he looked at the murder he just did, his heart was crushed just like your skull. he grew colder and tougher on his little demon servants ever since you left the earth.
about 1k years later you reincarnated back in Japan at the very peak of demons growing their population and cannibalizing humans.
you were born as a kunoichi in Uzui's village. You two were best friends. both of you were so close and were with him 24/7 laughing, going into the forest picking fruits, and pushing each other into shallow ponds.
when both of them turned 15 (yall were born 1 day apart) he chose her to be his bride she was happy she liked him as well and she was worried that he wouldn't choose her.
you were 18 when you two went on a dangerous mission. Tengen was completely fine but you were ambushed. Your feet went weak and so did your hands. The doctor told you that wouldn't ever be able to properly fight again which shattered your heart.
You were Uzui's first love and his first wife. you two had a happy married life for most of the part until he married another woman then another and another and another. he had 4 fucking wives.
You felt left out but you loved the three wives dearly and treated them as sisters. They ignored you a lot of the time though. Tengen would go on missions with them since they were shinobis or something and you, you were nothing but weak and unskilled now.
you started noticing the very little attention they would pay you when they came home. They slept in the same room. But when you tried sleeping with them they told you there wasn't enough space for you even if there was.
you were unhappy now. You would cook for them, do the chores wash their clothes and they didn't even say thank you. It's like you didn't even exist. one of these days, the three of them had taken a break from work and it was the annual fall festival. You were static! there would be so many hairpins and accessories for your hair and so many gorgeous kimonos!! back when you could still go on missions you made your own money and bought everything you need by yourself.
but now you were nothing but a housewife with no income. not that being a housewife is bad, you do you. but you wanted to do more, explore the world earn your own damn money, and not rely on your husband for everything. That dream was shattered, so now everything relied on Tengen and maybe your husband's three wives.
[name's] and Tengen's anniversary also happens to fall on the day of the festival. she was so excited to finally have some quality time with her husband. only two of them. You had recently sent the three of them for some grocery shopping since you can't walk far distances. You had gotten ready, put on your favorite Kimono, your hair and makeup were done now all there was left was to wait.
you waited alright. Up till midnight. They did not come back. tears managed to slip down your eyes just thinking about them having fun without you. what hurt you the most was Tengen forgetting about the anniversary. on your wedding day, he promised you and your family to protect you and love you till death. But what was this? bullshit. he had so easily forgotten about your presence whole.
She was tired. Tired of Tengen, tired of being neglected by her husband, tired of doing everything by herself. and she was done. done with this stupid marriage, she wanted to give up.
when Uzui and his three wives which he seemed to love so dearly arrived back home from the market, they saw [name] with her head lowered, and [name] looked at them, they looked so happy. Tengen even won stuffed animals for them and their hair was decorated with hair clips he won for them.
Tengen knew he had fucked up.
Demon Slayer (18+) Douma X Akaza X Male!reader Sneek Peek
TW: Masturbation
Hakuji never cared for anyone after Koyuki passed, he continued to refine jewels in the rough in her name, taking whatever love he had for her he put into her legacy. One Day a boy walked in, he was large, and strong. Hakuji of all people saw the potential in this 19 year old. When Hakuji shook his rough,calloused hands, the sweat of a hot summer's day ran down his neck, his chest, seeping into his gray tank top. God he was ripped. After that they became closer and closer, although Hakuji could barely stand this boy’s obliviousness, he just couldn’t break away from his sweet smile. Sooner than later Hakuji found himself in your bed, right next to you. Your arms wrapped around his torso. He laid awake as you softly snored, your face damn near pressed into his neck. He couldn’t sleep, but he didn’t want to wake you.
Unknowingly Hakuji would find himself in the bathroom of what was then your apartment, stroking his cock to the thought, the feeling of your bulge rubbing in between his thighs when you moved. He palmed himself, whimpering as the moonlight shone through the window, cum shooting out onto his face, a burning sensation flooded his face as Hakuji realized what he had done. Despite his embarrassment, he cleaned himself up, going back to your room. He stared at you for a while, wondering what you would think if you knew what he had just done, yet he sat on the floor, holding your hand as he drifted into a deep sleep.
Hakuji had fallen in love with you without realizing it. He hadn’t seen you in months, no matter how many times he called your phone you never answered, and yet he couldn’t help but remember your face, your body, your everything, all of it was you.
…. To be continued
PS I wrote this for @doumabootyeater1 ‘s birthday so yea the full oneshot will be posted on the 13th of August as I have a full schedule on the 12th
Also maybe like a zenitsu x reader fluff where they are child hood friends and he keeps asking her to marry him and one say she says yes and hes so happy
massive thank you to @fake-id-69 for not only being the first person to formally request something of me, but to also being the person to bring me out of my depressive writing hiatus :) you have no idea how excited I got to see how much you interacted with my page, endless love to you and I hope you enjoy this! ❤️ (Also, I changed up your request just a tiny bit but I still think you’ll like this hehe)
- Bo
Pairing: Zenitsu x GN! Reader
Warning: none, super fluffy
Summary: Zenitsu has been frantically searching for a girl to marry before his untimely and tragic demise at work as a Slayer.  Then he met you, and all of a sudden he realized he had to look no further.
Tumblr media
He was doing it again.  That thing where he would beg, and beg, and beg, and beg you to even just consider being his wife.
“B-but you don’t understand!  I’m going to DIE soon! This life is too much for me, I had no choice but to participate in this violence all because of Gramps!”
“Zenitsu, we’ve been over this a million times-”
Completely cutting you off, Zenitsu threw himself onto his knees, grasping at your legs as he let out a high pitched wail,
“PLEASE IM BEGGING YOU! IT HAS TO BE YOU! PLEASE MARRY ME-”
Intense growling cut Zenitsu’s dramatic proposal short, as Inosuke reached the end of his oh-so small amount of patience.
“Quit being such a fucking crybaby and toughen up already!! No real Demon Slayer would ever be caught dead like this, how the fuck do you have any tears left after crying like this all the time!! I swear one day i’ll kill you myself if this doesn’t stop!”
“Tanjirou! I-Inosuke is threatening me again! And I wasn’t crying!”  Zenitsu aggressively wiped his tears, sniffling, but still never getting up off his knees.
 From your position, it was so easy to feel your heart soften at Zenitsu’s show of emotion.  You didn’t like how Inosuke treated him.  But on another hand you did sort of understand where Inosuke could be coming from, even if you could personally never think of Zenitsu as annoying.
Gently reaching down to pet his head, you admired the way the golden hair glimmered in the sunlight.  For just a moment, your mind drifted as you absentmindedly ran your fingers through the soft tufts as Zenitsu snuggled into your palm.  It was Tanjirou who broke your concentration.
“Uhm, are you sure you can handle Zenitsu like this?  He actually seems to be a bit more upset than usual...”  Tanjirou let out an awkward laugh, but he was clearly concerned for the mental state of his friend.
Yes, it was true that Zenitsu was very attached to you, to say the least.  Anyone could tell, and Zenitsu did nothing to attempt to keep it a secret. But he wasn’t usually this physically clingy, and usually his tears had dried by now.  Something was a little different about today’s proposal.
“Would you guys mind giving me just a few minutes?  I swear we can keep heading to headquarters after, I’m just going to check up on him”. You knew Zenitsu could hear every word, but you whispered to Tanjirou over your shoulder despite that fact.
He silently nodded, and forcibly turned Inosuke towards the forest to give you and Zenitsu some space.  Dropping to your knees, you finally met Zenitsu’s eyes.  You were right, something was definitely off about him today.
“Zenitsu, I know you want to marry me, but what is this?”  Giggling softly, you tried to lighten his mood by offering a small smile.  The plan backfired, as you watched the flow of tears begin to stream down his face once more.  Throwing his arms around your shoulders, he buried his face into your neck as he muffled his next words.
“...I just don’t think i’ll ever be taken seriously”
“What? Zenitsu, you’re a great Slayer.  You’re potential is insane, the only thing holding you back is your confidence!”  Bringing your hand to his hair and threading your fingers through, you tried your best to understand where all of these emotions were coming from.  Of course he was a good Slayer, he passed the exam to became a Mizunoto after all.
“No! You don’t get it!  I want YOU to take me seriously!”
“But I do take you seriously, Zenitsu.  Weren’t you just listening? I said I-”
“No! Take me seriously in a romantic way!”  Now he was looking you in the face, no longer crying, but still visibly upset.
He brought his hands up to either side of your face, and as you set together on the ground, it hit you all at once.
Every time he protected you, despite his own fears.  All the times he checked up on you after hard days.  Every time he offered to share his food with you.  Every time he proposed to you.  He’s been serious the entire time.  The only reason you never answered his proposals was because you never pieced everything together. Good thing you knew the perfect solution.
“Hey Zenitsu?”
“Yeah?”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Of course” He sniffled, but subconsciously tightened his grip, bringing your faces close together.
“Will you marry me one day?”
“...”  His jaw fell open slightly, eyes wide open as a blush spread across his cheeks and nose.
“Zenitsu?”
“SAY YES YOU COWARD!!!”  Looking over Zenitsu’s shoulder, you could clearly see Tanjirou holding Inosuke back as he attempted to knock some sense into his blonde buddy.  Zenitsu snapped out of his stupor, and turning towards Inosuke he yelled,
“OBVIOUSLY I’M GOING TO SAY YES!!”  Zenitsu turned his face back to yours, and you could see he was crying again, for happy reasons this time.
Looking into your eyes, you could’ve sworn Zenitsu never looked so fiercely brave in his life.  Smushing your cheeks between his palms, he brought his lips to yours in a firm, lasting kiss.  And as you both let out a content sigh through your noses, you knew what his answer was.
Flower Crown
My first “x reader” writing EVER (I usually don’t write in this style, I give a name to any OC I write about)
Based on a HC that Zenitsu is good at making flower crowns ;-;
In which a tired you is in the company of someone who understands.
————————————————————————
It was essential that you had someone to train you. Oyakata-sama reminded everyone of the rarity of having a Star Breather like you, just as it was rare to have a Sun Breather like Tanjiro. And so started the game of hot potato, tossing you around to each hashira.
Obanai, Sanemi, Muichiro, and Giyuu had refused outright, barely giving any explanation as to why. But it was expected of them; they weren’t exactly the best at giving instructions or working with others. Shinobu or Rengoku would’ve gladly taken you in, had they not had so many others to take care of. Gyomei simply terrified you; sure he was gentle, but you doubted you could keep up with his raw, unadulterated power. Mitsuri worried that her breathing technique was far too different from yours, and relied a lot more on strength than yours did.
And so there you were, stuck with the Sound Hashira and his lovely wives. As gentle and kind as they were, they were warriors, and expected a lot from you. They demanded speed, agility, accuracy. But after 3 hours of losing to a Hashira who became more and more aggravated with each strike you missed, and a few more hours barely dodging the nonstop attacks of his ninja wives, you felt yourself at your limit. The world was spinning, and spots danced in your vision.
But you kept your shaking feet planted, your pearly nichirin sword sparkling in your grasp. As if your swordsmith had waited for nightfall to pluck stars straight out of the night sky and carve them into the shape of your blade. “Again,” you rasped, throat aching from how hard you were breathing. Your hands had gone pale from gripping your sword to keep it from shaking.
Hinatsuru, Makio, and Suma gave you small looks of concern. They were hesitating.
“Again,” you growled, frustration growing. You had to prove to them that you were strong enough for them, that you were worth training.
Tengen had taken a seat to the side to cool off, directing the session from afar. Even he stood, clapping his hands once. “Alright, I think it’s now time for some rest.” You shook your head.
“No, I can keep going.” Tengen laughed.
“I think you should stop before you collapse on us. That would be very unflashy. Besides,” he smiled at his wives. “It’s our turn to make a meal.” They blushed at the softness in Tengen’s voice as they walked away from where they had been training with you, and towards the house.
You remained standing, heartbeat drumming in your ears. You feared you would be unable to raise your arms again if you let them fall to your sides. And it was only the second day of being under their wing.
You could hear sounds of bickering and laughter from outside the Sound Hashira’s manor. They were familiar voices. It seemed Rengoku and his students had also come back from their training. They were here for the meal Tengen invited them to.
“Listen, I understand that stamina is an important part of demon slaying, but did he really have to make us run around the entire village twice?” It was Zenitsu’s complaining. He sounded louder; they were getting close to Tengen’s training yard.
You were still frozen in your spot, trying to force your body to ease out of its high intensity state before you could let yourself relax. Your muscles were cramped, and your heart rate would not slow, no matter how much you attempted to calm yourself down.
The three friends stepped into the yard, and they stopped short when they caught sight of you.
“Hey.” It was Zenitsu’s voice that cut through the silence. “Are you alright?”
The words hit you in a wave, causing your resolve to snap like a coiled spring. Before you could react, the edges of your vision began to fade as you felt your legs give out beneath you, sword slipping out of your grasp. Your body felt indescribably heavy, and you dropped forward.
But you didn’t hit the ground, firm hands catching your arms, face landing against a warm body and fast-paced heart. You could barely muster the strength to tilt your head up. The last thing you saw before your consciousness gave out were worried, sunset eyes.
~~~~
When you awoke, you realized you were tucked under a blanket, the group of people chattering quietly as they ate at the table not far from where you rested. Suma was the first to notice you had opened your eyes. She let out a small gasp.
“She’s awake!” She squeaked, the conversation stopping as they all looked at you with relieved expressions. You guessed their reactions were supposed to be comforting. But it only pushed you further into embarrassment, for being so incapable that everyone had to take care of you, had to worry for you.
“How long was I out?” You asked quietly. Tanjiro gave you a half smile. “A couple hours, as long as it took for the food to be prepared I believe.”
Hinatsuru smiled softly and scoot over to give you space by the table as you stood up. “Come, sit next to us.” Makio called out from beside her. Inosuke nodded with a wide grin.
“Yeah! The food is amazing!” His voice came out muffled, face stuffed with whatever Tengen and his wives had made.
You stared at the wall blankly.
“No, it’s alright. I’m not that hungry. Thank you.” Before anyone could object, you excused yourself and walked out into the training yard. Zenitsu silently watched you as you left.
~~~~
There was a back exit in Tengen’s manor, and you decided to slip out of it, leaning your back against the outer wall of the property. You stared up at the sky, the stars seeming to wink mockingly at you. Tears pricked your eyes.
How come you couldn’t be like them? Like Tanjiro, Inosuke, Zenitsu. Fighting through their fears and holding their own alongside Rengoku. You could barely stand straight after two days with Tengen. Maybe you weren’t deserving of your breathing technique.
“The sky is pretty tonight.” The gentle voice startled you, and you jerked your head in the direction of the sound. Wallowing in your own pity, you hadn’t noticed Zenitsu following you outside. He was also looking at the sky.
You wiped your tears against your sleeve. “What are you doing out here?” You muttered. Zenitsu finally looked at you, eyes muted.
“I brought you some food. You need it after passing out like that earlier. Trust me,” he rubbed the back of his head awkwardly. “I know all about it.”
You started trembling, reminded of the embarrassment of it all as you pulled your knees up to your chest and tucked your head away in your arms. Your soft sobs caused Zenitsu to flinch, speaking quickly.
“Oh I’m so sorry! If you don’t like the food it’s totally okay! I can- go grab some fruits or something if you want something lighter-” “I don’t deserve to be a Star Breather.” You whispered.
Zenitsu froze at your words. They echoed another voice he knew far too well. He kneeled down beside you. “You,” he pulled your arm away from your face. “Know that’s not true.” His face was serious, and it was the first time you had seen him look that way.
You looked up, blinking away any more tears. “Maybe I should stop using this breathing technique. I can’t keep up with any of you. I know Tengen hates me. I can see it in his eyes. All of them look at me with pity.” You finally forced yourself to face him.
“Even you.”
Zenitsu scoffed. “If you think what I feel for you is pity, then you’re awful at understanding others.” He frowned.
“I only feel frustrated. That you think you’re allowed to give up and play the victim, when we’re all fighting to keep up.” He slid down the wall to sit beside you.
“I never felt I was right with my Thunder Breathing either. I can still only use one form. There have been many times when I passed out from the sheer power behind Thunder Breathing. But when I had cried to gramps about all of it, he had asked me if I could see myself mastering a different technique.”
He paused for a second, staring at his hands. “And I realized that I couldn’t. One form or not, Thunder Breathing was the only one that felt as comfortable to me as my own skin.” Zenitsu laughed softly.
“When I told him that, he smacked me. Asked me why I was complaining then. He never let me quit. And I tried, many times. But he never stopped believing in me.” He smiled at the memories.
“Then I realized, the only thing that would help me become a better Thunder Breath wielder is to just, keep going. Because whether I like it or not, Thunder Breathing is mine.”
Zenitsu looked intently at you. “Just as Star Breathing is yours.” He paused. “And as long as that technique is the one that comes the easiest to you,” he smiled, sunset eyes glowing with determination. “I won’t let you quit either. You’ll always have me, and I will never stop believing in you.”
He had shocked you into silence. You merely stared at him, wide-eyed as he pulled something out of his orange kimono and handed it to you. “Here.”
His voice was soft, and you were staring at a beautiful pattern of flowers. A crown, consisting mostly of flowers the color of your eyes, and accented with speckles of others. “Did you-“ you looked at him with awe. “Did you make this?”
The seriousness from earlier vanished as he grinned sheepishly, nodding as his face turned pink. “Yeah. I wanted to give you something for working so hard with Tengen. And I’ve always loved crafts, so I made it during our break in training today.” Zenitsu carefully took it out of your hands, placing it on your head, arranging it to sit perfectly.
“There.” He grinned. “It looks perfect on you.” You felt your face heat up, looking at him with a grateful smile. With your sadness beginning to fade, you realized just how hungry you were.
“Zenitsu…” you began, smiling shyly. Zenitsu laughed.
“I know,” he responded, pushing the plate of food that was next to him towards you.
“Here, a plate of dinner from earlier.” He waved his hand toward the plate. “Now, eat. You’re our rare Star Breather after all.” You elbowed him playfully. Every bite of the meal was euphoric.
Zenitsu watched you eat with a soft smile.
Once you finished, you sighed, leaning back against the wall again. “Do you think we’ll ever be like the Hashira? You a Thunder Pillar, me a Star Pillar.” Zenitsu was quiet for a little bit.
“Yeah,” he finally spoke. “I think we will.”
It was all you needed to hear as you leaned your head against his shoulder, both of you watching the sky in a comfortable silence.
————————————————————————
Author’s Note: AHHHHHH ZENITSU! I love him so much fr. ;-; I’m so glad that my first “x reader” piece was for him. I saw this hc that Zenitsu was good at flower crowns and just HAD to write it. This one is my first writing in this form, and it might seem a bit rough, but please keep giving me the opportunity to write for y’all! Thank you. As I practice, it’ll improve for sure. For now though, I hope you enjoyed!
Back to back... Zenitsu X reader
Tumblr media
This is a Kny modern AU starring our fabulous lemon boy Zenitsu!
.。*゚+.*.。(❁´◡`❁)。.。:+*
Enjoy~
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
You were an… interesting individual to say the least. Not so much that you could be classed a scumbag, but you could unabashedly say that you enjoyed the occasional fight on public transportation as much as the next person… It was a welcome distraction, one where you could pick sides and silently rate the insults exchanged between the involved parties. What you did not appreciate however, was being caught in the crossfire.
You should have known of the chaos that would ensue as soon as you saw them get on the train. A weirdo in a boar mask. Check. Another weirdo, dressed like a lemon that looked like he was perpetually on the verge of tears… Check.
The last of the troupe looked normal, with pretty red hair and gentle features. But looks could be deceiving and judging but the fact that boar mask had repeatedly referred to him as an “underling” you knew his kind face was probably a façade and that they were in league with one another.
At the time their peculiarity had only served to spark your curiosity, allowing you to momentarily escape the monotony of your own life and enter into the world of their colourful attire and animated conversation. Boar mask or “Inouske” as you’d come to know by overhearing their discourse, was engaged in a histrionic display of attempting to jump out the window and pit his speed against this “beast” that was the train… probably an acting student. You’d also watched as the crying lemon tried desperately to restrain his eccentric friend.
Their idiosyncratic ministrations caused you to erupt in a fit of withheld giggles and made you wonder of the interesting adventures that would arise from being a regular in their company.
Such was the blissful state of ignorance you found yourself in. But once enlightened you’d come to realise that it was not acting, nor anything cultured that functioned as Inouske’s motivation for wearing such bizarre animal skin, but rather to hide a glaring absence of brain cells.
The start of the era of aforementioned “enlightenment” was commenced by raised voices, for a few incoherent shouts later and you had realised you were witnessing the beginnings of an argument… about what, you could not tell.
A couple moments later the lemon and the boar were engaged in a heated exchange whilst the man you’d come to know was named “Kamaboko Gonpachiro” had restricted Inouske by the underarms. Again, you had almost been enjoying the front-seat experience but - to your own detriment - the boar slipped out of Gonpachiro’s grasp, and he sent the lemon flying in your direction.
You briefly heard a pained grunt of surprise, but you hadn’t the time to analyse the particulars of the sound any further as before you knew it his sturdy back had slammed into your face. In any other context you might have welcomed the notion of being smothered by built muscle, but you were on a rather stinky train going home and of all the empty cars you had to have been seated near some (newly regarded) boisterous fools and a drunkard singing Beyoncé.
Gone was the simplicity of an evening train ride. You get on, you get off. Bob’s your uncle. Was it too much to ask? Apparently.
Anyway, back to the matter at hand. With murder on your mind, you pushed the lemon away from you and cupped your face. As if your body was sharing your mental vexation, blood started to dribble out of your nose and onto the train flooring. “WAAAAH! IM SO SORRY MISS,” he screamed. You decided to dignify his apology with a curt scoff; this fool has the audacity to look more distressed than me! “Save it, just leave me alone.”
Kamaboko was busy scolding Inouske and offered up his apologies along with a handkerchief, but you waved them off and told them to forget about it. They’re probably worried I want to press charges…
The lemon, however, completely ignored your dismissal, continuing to ask desperately for your forgiveness and for a way he could make amends (whilst Inouske snorted arrogantly in the background). You, in a wave of sympathy and despite initial annoyance, agreed.
That was how you ended up in a small coffee shop on the corner of a quiet road. What you hadn’t expected was for you both to become good friends and for it to become the spot for your regular rendezvous. You’d come to learn allot about the lemon you now called Zenitsu. He, despite occasionally being overbearing, had a kind heart and was quick to make you laugh, so you had asked if he wanted to meet again, he’d accepted (a little too enthusiastically), and you’d become increasingly fond.
There were also casual gatherings - on occasion - with the rest of his enigmatic companions, ones you enjoyed very much, but had always found such meetings could never allow you to hold the same sort of enthusiasm you did for the almost intimate setting you and Zenitsu would frequent together.
However, on one such visit to said setting, there had been something noticeably different about his behaviour.
These observations were substantiated by the understanding that you had recently come into the knowledge he was interested in you romantically to some capacity and – to your own amusement – it was becoming progressively evident.
He’d been fidgeting in his seat, fiddling with his hands, and tripping over his words. Not to mention the fact that he’d turned a bright shade of plum red. You subsequently decided to humour his antics and dissipate the tension.
“Stop blushing, it’s running your colour scheme.”
What, in your mind, served as a witty, ice-breaking, apprehension abolishing conversation starter was met with more blushing and followed by awkward silence.
Tough crowd…
“um … Yn-chaan” Eventually, his timid voice broke the silence and captured your attention.
“hm?”
“I- I like you.”
You smiled into the cup and took a long sip of your hot chocolate “Yeah, I like you too Zenitsu.”
“NO YN-CHAN NOT THE NORMAL LIKE-”
Rolling your eyes, you let out a laugh “I know what you mean…”
And I mean it too
Pairing: Zenitzu Agatsuma x gn!reader
A/n: request from a friend: @gacha-lava
Warnings: kissing if that makes you uncomfortable, also bad writing probably OOC zenitzu tbh T^T not proof read.
Enjoy!
Tumblr media
When you first woke up, you were cold. The usual warmth and weight that always lay on your chest was gone. Meaning Zenitzu was no longer here with you.
The calendar, bedside tables, his side of the bed (though he never actually slept there, he always was attached to you). Nothing. No note, no sign he was ever even there. Nothing.
You rubbed the sleep out of your eyes and stumbled into the kitchen. And immediately, your worry, anxiety, panic. It all left you as quickly as it came.
There he was. Ah, your beautiful boy. He was still in his pajamas cooking breakfast and--wait. Breakfast? Cooking? That was what you always did. Mostly because you didn't trust him to cook.
"Zenitzu?" You called quietly, walking up to him and wrapping your arms around his waist. Zenitzu hummed in response, focused solely on flipping the pancake he was cooking at the right moment.
"Why're you up so early?" You mumbled, nuzzling in the crook of Zenitzus neck, sending shivers down his spine.
He really never got used to your touch. Well, he had your touch memorized. It was you actually giving him affection that never got old. So warm, cozy, like his own home.
" 'm making breakfast just for you." Zenitzu kept his voice lower so he didn't startle you out of your sleepy state. He rested his cheek on top of your head, kissing your head before flipping the pancake. Which was perfectly golden brown.
"This early?" You mumbled and looked up at the clock on the microwave above the stove. 7:00 am, way too early for a Saturday, especially after a long week of work.
"I was gonna bring it to you in bed so you didn't have to move at all. though, I guess I can't do that now that you're awake." Zenitzu chuckled, sliding the pancake onto his spatula and then onto another pancake on a plate, making a stack.
Zenitzu poured syrup over your pancakes in a zig-zag motion, then he smiled and held out his hands in the pancakes' general direction. "Taa-daa!!" He said happily, grinning like a love-sick puppy. You smiled, and instead of taking your pancakes and eating them on the couch, you grabbed Zenitzu by the waist and pulled him closer to you.
His face flushed, of course. How could it not with a deity such as you touching him softly? You brought your hands from his waist to his cheeks, cupping his sweet face.
"Thank you." You whispered, inches away from his faces, your nose brushing against his. Zenitzus face couldn't have been more red. You'd think he'd get used to the intimacy by now.
"Nnm-mhm." He hummed while he took in every detail of your face, and your lips ghosted over his. You chuckled lightly, your hot breath tickling his face.
You closed the gap between you two, kissing him. Not a simple kiss, like one after a first date. But a longer, more passionate one. It sent the feeling of electricity down Zenitzus spine, and he softly held your waist as his eyes fluttered shut.
Suddenly, you felt warmth and something fuzzy moving between your legs.
Ah, yeah. The cat. You pulled away from Zenitzus lips, triggering a whine out of him and you chuckled.
"Alright, Debra, the Astriod Destroyer. (Best Name Ever). I'll get you food." You said to your cat, moving to scoop cat food into his bowl, away from Zenitzu.
°•~《☆》~•°
You sat at the foot of the couch, not directly on it with Zenitzus back to your chest and his head resting under your chin.
Zenitzu held the buttery popcorn that you had made in the microwave, both of you eating straight out of the bag while a movie played on the TV. Some drama about mean girls?
It was peaceful, for once. You felt Zenitzus hair tickling your nose while your arms wrapped around his waist. It's was so cozy, warm, comfortably lazy.
Zenitzu intertwined his fingers with yours and kissed your hand. You could feel his smile as his lips connected with your skin. He felt safe. You both felt safe.
This was home.
The white noise of the TV, your arms wrapped around him, his fingers intertwined with your own, your chin resting at the top of his head, and the soft kisses placed to one another's skin every few minutes.
Home.
“I’m Looking…”
ANOTHER READER X ZENITSU
(I’m in love with my little clementine if you didn’t realize.)
IN WHICH YOU TAKE A TRIP BACK TO THE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT
ENJOY!
————————————————————————
Zenitsu was going to die. He was sure of it. He couldn’t get himself to breathe normally, even sprawled out on the ground like a star. He suddenly missed Rengoku, who had to leave him and his friends at the hands of Tengen, as he was busy with a mission. At least Rengoku took pity on them and bought them food after their training. It all made sense now, why you had passed out the one time they had come to visit Tengen’s estate.
While the rest of his friends talked as they caught their breaths, Zenitsu busied his mind with cursing Tengen and all of his ancestors.
Screw you, and your pretty wives, and your father, and your grandfather, and your grandfather’s grandfather-
Tanjiro had asked the group which mission location they would like to return to if they could.
None of them, Zenitsu thought to himself. If he ever saw any of those places again, it would be too soon.
“I want to ride the train again. I’ve never moved so fast without MOVING! We were like, zoom!” Inosuke stood up, sprinting in circles around them to demonstrate. Zenitsu heard your giggle and Tanjiro’s soft chuckle.
“What about you?” Tanjiro asked. Zenitsu glanced at you as you leaned back on your arms and quirked your head in thought.
“Hmm, if I could go back…” you smiled wishfully. “The Entertainment District.”
All of their eyes widened. Even Zenitsu shot up into a sitting position. “THE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT? WHERE WE FOUGHT THE CREEPY DOUBLE-DEMON DEMON?” He cried out.
You nodded. “Well, yeah. Uzui-san had said a lot about how beautiful it was when it wasn’t under attack. I just, wish we could’ve seen that side of it.” You sighed. Zenitsu had gone quiet. You, wanted to see the Entertainment District? He hadn’t thought you’d be someone who enjoyed places like that. He smiled mischeviously.
“I have an idea.”
“No.” Tengen turned away. Zenitsu’s face fell. “What?” He followed after the giant man like a puppy.
Tengen stopped, Zenitsu smacking into his back.
Why did that feel like hitting a wall? Zenitsu rubbed his nose.
You looked at him sympathetically; he was trying very hard. You, Inosuke, and Tanjiro were hiding by the entrance to the training yard while Zenitsu attempted to convince the hashira. Tengen turned around. “It’s too dangerous now. Besides, you begged me to never send you back there again after we got back from the last mission.”
Tanjiro made a choked sound as he kept himself from laughing, Inosuke also clapping a hand over his own mouth as he let out a muffled chortle. You grinned. Zenitsu let out an exasperated groan. “Yeah- but, now I want to see it, since we defeated that demon. Besides,” Zenitsu retorted.
“Didn’t you say you were the God of Festivities? I really haven’t seen you live up to your title yet. That’s rather, unflashy, don’t you think?” He placed a finger to his chin, eyes gauging Tengen’s reaction.
~~~~
“WHAT?!”
~~~~
Overwhelming. It was the only thing you could think as you took in all the sights and sounds on the street. Overwhelming in the way an ocean washed a person with an overwhelming sense of peace. Or in the way your family overwhelms you with happiness. Or a field of flowers overwhelms you with it’s lovely sweetness.
There were dancers swaying to music that followed behind them as the marching musiciens seemed to hypnotize them. There were artists, displaying the gorgeous whorls and streaks of color on their canvases. There were magicians, performing tricks for anyone who walked past.
And there were booths upon booths of mouth watering food. You may not have had any money, but your giddy appearance and glowing eyes were enough to convince the vendors to give you small plates of whatever you wanted. Zenitsu however, was not having the same luck. So he stuck to you, picking off your plate like a little orange scavenger. It made you laugh.
You did not let a single event slip past you, prancing with the dancers for a bit, complimenting artists for their talent, in awe of the small tricks the magicians displayed. It was quite refreshing for Zenitsu to see you so carefree, since it seemed you rarely let yourself feel that way.
The both of you arrived at a booth by a wide river. Displayed at the booth was jewelry; beautiful necklaces of jade, rubies, and pearls. Bracelets of neatly carved stones of all kinds. You tugged Zenitsu closer to the booth, looking at the jewelry in fascination. You didn’t have much jewelry, it wasn’t smart to wear any when fighting. Zenitsu watched you carefully. Your eyes didn’t budge from one of them. A bracelet of twine with different shades of orange stones woven into a tight pattern. It was very beautiful, and would be easy to wear even when fighting, as you could tell it would wrap securely around your wrist.
The vendor caught you staring at the bracelet. “Do you like it?” He asked curiously. You flinched, nodding shyly.
“It’s a very beautiful piece.” You admitted. He grinned at you.
“In a few minutes, everyone gathered around the booth will participate in stone skipping.” He pointed at the people by the river. “Whoever can skip their stone the farthest, gets to pick a jewelry of their choice to take with them.” You nodded with a small smile, the excitement in your eyes from earlier flickering.
I don’t know how to skip rocks.
As you were lost in thought, Zenitsu scouted for a smooth pebble around the booth. He found one, tossing it and snatching it out of the air with an easy smile. “Thank you sir.” Zenitsu bowed. The man nodded at him in acknowledgement.
You caught up to Zenitsu who strode away confidently. “What are you doing?” You whispered softly. He looked at you with a grin.
“What do you mean? I’m going to skip this stone.” Your eyebrows rose.
“You can do that?” Zenitsu chuckled. “I lived by a river when I was younger. Skipping rocks was basically the only thing I’d do all day.” You nodded slowly.
You and Zenitsu stood beside the line of people by the river. It was wider than it had looked from by the booth, and it made you wonder if Zenitsu could really get it farther than anyone else.
People beside you started tossing the rocks at the water, some of them making it a decent distance, while some just plopped and faded away into the abyss. But the energy of the crowd didn’t fade, everyone seemed to be having fun. Finally, it was Zenitsu’s turn.
You gave his arm a gentle squeeze, and he looked at you with a confident gaze. “Watch.” He muttered.
Zenitsu took a deep breath.
Thunder Breathing.
You didn’t even notice the stone as it flew out of his hand, fast enough that you were certain a spark came off of his fingertips. He was crouched, watching the stone zip quickly over the water. His smile began to grow as it passed where other stones had sunk.
It had passed them, and was almost at the other side.
The crowd’s cheering began to get louder as the rock got closer to the other end of the river. It finally landed in the grass, and the crowd broke out into whoops and shouts, some people clapping Zenitsu on the shoulder. “Great throw son!” You heard people yell at him.
You squealed with giddiness, skipping in circles around Zenitsu. “You did it, you did it, you DID it!” You gave him a quick hug, body buzzing with excitement. Zenitsu beamed, matching your energy. The both of you walked back to the booth, the man watching Zenitsu in surprise.
“Well kid, you definitely earned this one.” He said with a grin as Zenitsu pointed at the bracelet you were looking at earlier. “I would like that one.”
How had he known…?
The man handed it to him. Zenitsu bowed gratefully, turning to you. “Here.” He grabbed your hand, lifting your arm. He gently wrapped the bracelet around your wrist. “So you don’t forget how far I skipped that rock.” You giggled at his teasing.
The bracelet glowed as you tilted your arm back and forth. The orange rocks would serve as a constant reminder of Zenitsu. You smiled at the thought.
Finally, it was time for the fireworks. Zenitsu grabbed the sleeve of your kimono as he ran, pulling you with him. You two made it to the building just in time, Tengen and the rest of your friends waiting for you by the door.
Tengen led you up to the roof of the building. You showed off your bracelet to your friends as Inosuke showed off his string necklace (it was a necklace strung with dumplings, but Inosuke had already devoured them), and Tanjiro pulled out a soft green scarf that he bought Nezuko for the winter. Everyone had enjoyed their time in their own way, even Tengen and his wives, their faces colored with beautiful matching designs.
The first sparks in the sky silenced their conversations, and you gasped as you watched the fireworks fall to the earth like a colorful rain. It fascinated you, you had never seen them so close.
“It’s so beautiful, isn’t it?” You tugged on Zenitsu’s sleeve to get his attention. But you didn’t notice that his attention was already on you. He watched the glitter in your eyes as you stared in wonder at the light show before you.
“Yeah, it is.” He agreed softly. You hadn’t looked at him yet. “Zenitsu! Look there, look there!” You pointed at each firework that went off.
“I’m looking…” Zenitsu was looking, just not at what you were pointing to. Tengen saw him watching you out of the corner of his eye.
The fireworks lit up the dark sky, each one a color that you didn’t realize existed. Some even two different colors at once.
They sparkled beautifully, practically like stars.
Your eyes, that is. The fireworks were okay too, Zenitsu thought with a soft smile. He didn’t realize Tengen had gotten closer to him, putting a hand on his jaw and making him face the fireworks. It made Zenitsu’s face burn with embarrassment, having been caught staring like that. But Tengen only dawned a knowing smile. “Don’t miss the moment.” He whispered to the kid.
Zenitsu nodded absentmindedly, allowing himself to move just a bit closer to you. No, he wouldn’t miss the moment. In fact, he’d probably never forget it.
