Yin Yu Appreciation Week 2024 Day Four- Sad - "Shackle"
Another HuaYin ficlet offering <3
“Does it bother you?”
Hua Cheng’s voice drew Yin Yu out of his thoughts, and he straightened to attention.
“Chengzhu?” he asked. The ghost king hadn’t even looked up from the scroll hanging from his hands and draping over his lap to the floor.
“That thing on your wrist.”
Yin Yu’s expression twitched imperceptibly, and he realized he had been idly rubbing at his shackled wrist. Quickly, he stopped, pretending he’d only been adjusting his sleeve.
“It’s of no concern.”
“I’d be concerned if it was distracting my officer during his duties,” Hua Cheng drawled, though he barely sounded like he was interested. “Does it hurt you?”
Hurt? Not physically. It was a painful reminder of his final day in Heaven. Of Quan Yizhen’s expression as he said those horrible words to him. Of who he once was - and who he definitely wasn’t. The emperor’s grip on his wrist had been firm, able to snap bone if he wished, but Yin Yu only received the shackle. Like a jade bracelet, it was a thing he would wear the rest of eternity. A gift and a punishment.
“No, Chengzhu,” he said softly. Hua Cheng finally lifted his gaze, and it settled on Yin Yu’s arm. Yin Yu didn’t recoil when Hua Cheng reached out for him and pulled up his sleeve. On milky white skin, dark symbols bore into his wrist. They were thick and unsightly. Yin Yu didn’t mind the look of the shackle too much, but even beyond it sealing his godhood away, it made him cringe. Even if he’d never been a magnificent god or a kind friend or a perfect person, he always had his body. It was the one thing he’d tended to daily during his cultivation. He wasn’t vain about his looks, but he was secretly a little proud of how much hard work went into upkeeping his strength and abilities that Hua Cheng required him to use daily as his officer. The shackle, meanwhile, took away the last of his “reward” for all that hard work. No matter how hard he worked now, this was all he would ever achieve.
The muscles in his forearm tensed when long, slender fingers trailed over his skin. Hua Cheng was inspecting him like some kind of specimen, tracing the shackle. Yin Yu got goosebumps as he felt Hua Cheng’s spiritual energy curiously prick at the shackle’s edges. The emperor’s energy was insurmountable, and as such, he was able to create the shackles with ease. If Yin Yu had to choose someone, though, he wouldn’t doubt that Hua Cheng might just be powerful enough to rival the shackle’s curse. The two of them had become rather close over the past few decades. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to imagine that the ghost just might-
Yin Yu had to immediately stop that train of thought.
“Ch-... Chengzhu…?” he dared to ask after a few moments.
“All banished gods have these?” Hua Cheng asked.
There it was. That’s why Hua Cheng had suddenly become interested in his shackle. Yin Yu let out a slow, steady exhale.
Yin Yu answered all of Hua Cheng’s questions. He let the ghost poke and prod with cold fingers at his flesh. He bit his tongue when Hua Cheng tested the shackle with his spiritual energy once or twice more. As soon as he was released, Yin Yu excused himself. It was another preparation for Xie Lian. It was always for Xie Lian. For just a moment, Yin Yu had allowed himself to be foolish enough to believe that Hua Cheng might be interested in him. Stupid. Selfish, even. Stay, Hua Cheng prayed to him - Xie Lian, not Yin Yu. Yin Yu was nothing more than another banished god. Easily replaced. Easily a replacement. Stay. What a mockery of his pain. Of his desire. How dare Hua Cheng allow him to start feeling these things?

My (probably only huhuhu) contribution for Yin Yu Appreciation Week 2024!
Day 1 Prompt: Work - Vacation
And because my brain is my brain I ended up adding a bit of character analysis and such. Hope you all enjoy this and send love to our bestest boi!
FIC SUMMARY:
“You should take a break.” Hua Cheng told Yin Yu one day.
The thing is…
Yin Yu didn’t think he was serious.
And when he found out Hua Cheng was serious, he realized he didn’t know how.

Yin Yu Appreciation Week 2024 Day Two - Shipping - "Stay"
(i wasn't able to do day one, but i'm trying to do a few days of yin yu appreciation week with some ficlets! enjoy a slightly angst-themed week to go along with the prompts hehe) a continuation of this post by @mdzs-owns-my-ass-i-guess. thank you again for taking my brain worms!!
“Stay.”
It had started as a simple command there in Qiandeng Temple one late night. Yin Yu obeyed, as he always did.
“I will always be here for you,” Yin Yu had assured. “Have faith in me,” he had begged.
Yin Yu had never known a love like Crimson Rain Sought Flower’s. For decades, he assumed that Hua Cheng’s obsession was unfounded, or based on childish obsession, but he quickly learned that this was not the case. Hua Cheng had so much love inside him that it was overflowing, and Yin Yu thirsted for a precious few drops of that excess.
It had taken months for either of them to mention what happened that night, when the smell of alcohol tinged Hua Cheng’s breath and his arms held Yin Yu tight before that statue of the Crown Prince of Xianle. When it did come up, the ghost king was once more in distress. Hua Cheng had been out for several weeks, chasing down a lead that he was sure was connected to Xie Lian. He had returned to Paradise Manor empty-handed. Yin Yu knew better than to ask about his efforts, so he attended to the manor and Ghost City as if nothing had happened. He gave his reports to Hua Cheng to catch him up on goings-on, and he bowed low to take his leave.
“Wait,” Hua Cheng said.
“Chengzhu?” Yin Yu responded.
“...stay.”
Yin Yu’s mind was drawn back to that night. His stomach burned with that bittersweet fire that been kindled. Surely he was mistaken. Surely Hua Cheng didn’t mean-
“Stay.”
For centuries, the ghost king had persevered in his search for his beloved alone. Yin Yu presumed he would remain this way for the rest of eternity, searching every boundary of every realm with utmost certainty that his gracious, noble Someone was out there. On one hand, Yin Yu thought him foolish to believe such a love could ever be returned. On the other, Yin Yu craved its burning light to shine upon him once more. Slowly, cautiously, he came closer to Hua Cheng. Cold silver vambraces wrapped around his back, and a face was pressed into his chest. There was no alcohol this time. No trembling. Only dense, sorrowful silence.
The second time was no easier to process than the first. Nor was the fifth, tenth, twentieth. Stay became something much more. From a messy, tearful hug in the temple, it evolved into something… something Yin Yu couldn’t quite describe. More than once, Yin Yu found himself on Hua Cheng’s lap. More than once, he found himself in Hua Cheng’s bed. Yin Yu’s desires were different from Hua Cheng’s, he quickly realized. Laying on crimson silk sheets, fully clothed, they would curl up together in silence. Hua Cheng’s hands would grip Yin Yu’s robes, but he never attempted to strip them off. His lips came close to Yin Yu’s neck when he hid his face there, but they never made contact.
Yin Yu knew why. Of course he did. It only made the fire inside him burn hot as the desert sun, and he was a man desperate for a drink of that loyalty and devotion. So he held tighter, willing his desires to be made clear without acting on them.
Stay, Hua Cheng would send through the communication array when they were on opposite sides of the city. Yin Yu knew it was a summons, and he obeyed. No other words were exchanged. Yin Yu had already said too much that first night, and he feared with Hua Cheng in his right mind, anything more might scare him away. He was terrified that the moments they shared would suddenly cease. Yin Yu couldn’t take the thought of it.
Stay.
It became the first prayer he’d received in years. To feel like a god, he realized, he had to continue to obey.

Yin Yu Appreciation Week; Event Rules and Guidelines
Hello! This is the event guide for Yin Yu Appreciation Week 2024! Not everything is a hard and fast rule so read on if you would like to know more!
*Important: This event is being hosted by one individual on Tumblr and AO3. There are no plans to create event pages/accounts on other platforms but you are more than welcome to post there. If you are interested in creating one to run yourself, please DM this blog or @juicedpeachy for assistance.
This event is a FAN event. Meaning no money will be made from this event and no official TGCF accounts or individuals are involved with the event. All characters from Tian Guan Ci Fu belong to Moxiang Tongxiu.
Because this is a FAN event and the host does not stand to gain any income, please treat it as such. The host is putting this together for fun in their free time and any rude or entitled behavior will not be tolerated.
In addition, this guide is subject to change at any time.
RULES: Violation of these rules will primarily result in blocking and/or muting. In extreme cases, reporting to Tumblr and/or AO3 staff.
1. NO AI WORKS. Any use of artificial intelligence in the creation of your piece is not allowed. There are many other accessibility tools out there to support your creative process without stealing from others.
2. No reposting without permission and credit! Before sharing someone else’s work on another platform, please check with the creator and LINK their credentials and account to the post. If the creator says no—do not ask again. Reposting without permission is stealing.
3. Do not spam the tags! Spam in the suggested event tags will not be tolerated. Please refer to AO3 and Tumblr’s guidelines for definitions of spam.
4. While explicit, disturbing, or violent content is allowed, it must be tagged before posting. These terms include but are not limited to: rape/non-con, graphic violence, suicide, underage, incest, sexual content, homophobia, racism, transphobia, colorism, etc.
5. Including more specific tags for content that is not necessarily disturbing but may be unfavorable or controversial to some are highly encouraged but not a requirement. Specific tags can help to keep the community safe from personal triggers and help some to avoid content that they personally don’t agree with. This can include terms such as m-preg, gender-bend, whump, omegaverse, etc. If you don’t wish to tag specific terms, an umbrella term such as “potentially triggering/controversial material” or “creator chose not to use archive warnings” can suffice.
6. Creators are not at fault for content that may be triggering or controversial to you. It is your own job to curate and filter your online spaces and creators do not owe you anything. If you see something that you think should be tagged, you may kindly let the creator know but they are not responsible for your mental state and you must take care of yourself.
7. No harassment or hate speech of any kind is permitted. You will be reported for such behavior.
8. Ao3 and Tumblr’s rules should also be followed. Their guidelines are not necessarily listed here and you should visit their rules on your own to understand them.
Guide: These are not necessarily “rules” in the sense that you will be blocked, but they are a guide about how you should participate and behave for the event. However, your content may not be reblogged or included in any collections.
1. First and foremost, this event is to celebrate the character known as Yin Yu from Heaven Official’s Blessing. Content created for the event should focus on Yin Yu. Shipping is welcome but the priority should be Yin Yu.
2. Do not leave unwarranted criticism on others works.
3. Tag your work with #yinyuappreciation2024 or #yinyuappreciationweek if you wish to be featured on the tumblr page or the ao3 collection
This has been the general rules and guidelines for this event. Please check the FAQ for more info detailing the specifics of your creations and how to participate.

FAQ for Yin Yu Appreciation Week 2024
Q: Do I have to follow the prompt list?
A: Nope! They primarily serve as a starting point to offer inspiration to those who would like it. You can pick and choose from the prompts, skip others, or completely ignore them! On the flip side you are welcome to incorporate more than one into a single creation. The goal is to celebrate Yin Yu and have fun!
Q: Do I have to post on tumblr?
A: you are free to post your work wherever you’d like, or not at all. I will create a collection on ao3 and will reblog works posted on tumblr to this blog* Feel free to post your own works on instagram, Twitter, Bluesky, or any other platforms you would like. Include the tags #yinyuappreciationweek or #yinyuappreciation2024
Q: you didn’t reblog my creation even though I posted it on tumblr
A: My goal is to share all the yin Yu appreciation works that are posted on tumblr. Sometimes things will slip through the cracks since tumblr sucks at filtering things. Double check you used the preferred tags in your post. Feel free to send me your work as well if three days have passed and you haven’t seen it.
In rare instances, your work may have violated the rules and guidelines. Please check them as well and ensure you have followed the instructions
Q: Will you do this again next year?
A: we will see! Depends on the turn out this time around and whether or not I have the time and energy to host this event again
