behind the scenes: let's start thinkin' bout it
chapter 2 : lingering wounds
this chapter really writes itself. all i have clearly in mind is a conversation between Qiao Yifan and Wang Jiexi. i have thought of writing the remaining All Stars, but the conversation ends up much bigger than i expected. definitely more angst and hurt-comfort, which is me going back to my roots lol. it also makes it harder to find a proper ending. after scrapping some rough ideas, this is the end result that i am pretty satisfied with.
this chapter can be said an analysis of Tiny Herb. and I know how risky it is, and it's rather hard to avoid bias. but Tiny Herb is among the teams that we do have more knowledge of their inner workings from the novel. and i must admit, while i admire Wang Jiexi and his dedication to Tiny Herb (fangwang is also one of my fave pairings), for me current Tiny Herb is not impressive... and its future is worrisome.
my bad impression did indeed start with the way they handled Qiao Yifan. it can be summed up as a mere mismatch between Qiao Yifan and Tiny Herb. that our Yifan is unsuitable for Tiny Herb and vice versa. that ultimately Tiny Herb is an employer and workplace, that this kind of thing does a common occurrence. no one is at fault. we just happened to be spoiled with teams like Happy and Blue Rain who are in comparison very flexible and inclusive. (then there's God Ye, who stands tall above the rest, who notices things that the Magician doesn't)
but i cannot help but disagree.
in my experience as an employee (or capitalist slave lol) who ends up studying about business&management, human resource is the greatest investment a company or any business can have. it can make or break the business. so usually, HR recruitment and training get a lot of attention, if not a priority. so it's no wonder that all teams will have their own training camps, so they will have easier time to mold and pick their future team members. especially there's an obvious quota or limitation of how many people can be in the team. then there's also nature of the teams, which highly requires ability to adapt and to work with others. this should make being promoted to the team very difficult. the ones who did get to be a member of the team, even though only a sub, should be the cream of the crop.
Qiao Yifan is no exception.
this is clearly implied in the novel when it's mentioned that he has only played Glory for a year by the time we got to know him (Ch147). only further strengthened with how quick he adjusts to Ghostblade class and to rough diamond Happy in the new server.
However, Qiao Yifan has never played an official match, to the point that all pro players and the All Stars' audience have no idea of his existence in Tiny Herb. and by then half season have passed.
half season!
(forget how strange the timeline is, s8 is a mess)
that's such a waste of time and money. seriously. HR is an investment because the result will not show immediately. HR is also costly because they put a lot of money into developing the people into what the company need. recruiting a fully developed talent (transfer) is expensive, so it's usually more cost effective to acquire from universities (training camp) and develop them in the company (the team).
how can you develop your team member without giving them experience??? especially when it's highlighted throughout the novel, through many pro players, how important experience is. how it's the only way for a rookie turn into a veteran.
not only it doesn't make sense from business standpoint, it also doesn't make sense from team standpoint. by benching Qiao Yifan, Wang Jiexi has crippled his own team, reducing the potential strategies he can use. and by not giving him a chance to grow, thus reducing his chance to stay, requiring Tiny Herb to seek and acquire and train/introduce another new person, adding another new variable into the team that might end up the same.
then there's Wang Jiexi's thoughts of Qiao Yifan.
Wang Jiexi already couldn't see any value in keeping Qiao Yifan in the team. He also knew the kid was having a hard time meshing with the team. Perhaps if he wasn't in a Champion team and in some other no pressure mid-tier team, he might be able to make some progress? -Ch144
made worse with the rare time Qiao Yifan shows any negative feelings towards others.
"How lucky... to be instructed by a god-level player like captain so often..." Qiao Yifan silently thought. -Ch145
on my the first time reading it and on my reread, these words still rub me the wrong way. first, it's so cold and ruthless. he strips down Qiao Yifan to his value to the team. okay, we can accept that it's necessary in such highly competitive environment that is Glory. you cannot just add all good vegetables into the shopping cart, just like Ye Xiu said. second and my greatest source of vexation is that he knows that Qiao Yifan is not meshing with team, but his solution is to put Qiao Yifan in an environment with no pressure? really? true to his magician, title his reasoning doesn't make sense, which irks me so much. because it doesn't seem he bothers to know the reason why.
teamwork requires everyone to work together. it's a relationship of mutual trust and respect. it takes all sides to make it work. from his thoughts, it gives me the impression the fault lies in Qiao Yifan for being weak, for buckling under the pressure, thus not gaining trust and respect from his teammates for them to willing to work with him.
the least kind explanation for his way of thinking is that Tiny Herb's self-sacrificing values are taken to the extreme. considering he has changed my playstyle for the team and the championship, he really cannot fathom why the others can't. the less kind explanation is that being a genius make him unable to understand others who are not. the kindest explanation is that he's too busy to instruct the substitutes personally, which is reasonable considering Tiny Herb's overdependence on him, so he cannot really see the problem in Qiao Yifan. he might leave that job to his vice captain, which unfortunately for Qiao Yifan is Deng Fusheng, who might not even fully understand why Wang Jiexi assigns Qiao Yifan an Assassin account to properly instruct him.
it might also be all of them. if we think kindly of Wang Jiexi, he might be aware of his shortcoming, so he relies on his vice captain in developing and training the rookies. Fang Shiqian is particularly good at this, as seen from the main roster that used to have Fang Shiqian as the vice captain. case in point, his attempts in recruiting new member for his team after Fang Shiqian retired are by acquiring developed talents: Xu Bin, an exchange with Li Yihui, Tang Rou and Qiu Fei who have been personally instructed by Ye Xiu.
this kinda explains his cold rationality. and the way he handles Gao Yingjie. whose personality is not much different than Qiao Yifan. it really gives an impression he really doesn't know how to deal with such a different personality compared to his own. that's why he takes such an extreme approach, by losing publicly against Gao Yingjie, which i don't think it's well thought out.
it might be just me, but in my own experience in teaching people (and also from Ye Xiu/Happy and Wei Chen/Blue Rain's example), in order to build confidence it's not really that complicated. just let them gain experience, let them try and fail, but also make sure they know that failure is not the end of the world, that they have the team's support and understanding. that's it. others might scorn them, but the team will have their back. call it tough love. call it a balance of care and cruelty. everyone's a beginner at first, even geniuses. meanwhile, Gao Yingjie is too well-protected. he's kept from hardship too much. that's why i've got the feeling that Wang Jiexi's approach has a high chance of blowing up on his (and Tiny Herb's) face.
and also why future Tiny Herb is worrisome, because it's not only the team who is overly dependent on Wang Jiexi, the whole club, too. it can be minimized if Wang Jiexi stays after retirement... but i feel he will be as decisive as his predecessors. Gao Yingjie will have such big shoes to fill, if not too big.
then there's the team environment.
particularly among the reserve players, which eerily reminds me of Excellent Era's training camp, which might be what Ye Xiu's also thinking with his comment of role model and crutch to Wang Jiexi after the match.
Is he saying that I've been working too hard all this time? But when you were in Excellent Era, weren't you also giving your all to carry the team on your shoulders? Wang Jiexi watched Ye Xiu's retreating silhouette. -Ch1334
in the later match against Thunderclap, it seems that Wang Jiexi does stop trying too hard and let himself being isolated from the others in order to reduce the dependence and in the playoffs against Samsara, it suggests that the younger members manage to make a turnaround. that it bodes well for the future of Tiny Herb.
but here's the thing. it only shows hope for the current main roster of the team. the subs? they don't really have the proper mindset. it's shown in the way they barely worked together and then lost against Lord Grim and co., in the way they made excuses, made worse with Xiao Yun's behavior when he's being the most senior, the one considered as half-main roster and half-sub, but also always being sought to be replaced by Wang Jiexi. no wonder he acts out, bullies are often insecure. this paints a rather grim picture of the championship team environment that Wang Jiexi (and Tiny Herb) creates, and also the double standard he's shown in the different way he treats Gao Yingjie compared to other rookies.
there's a ticking time bomb right there.
the problem might even lay deeper, or start sooner in the training camp. this is a high possibility, considering how Qiao Yifan got promoted despite his unsuitability and how Wang Jiexi is always seen looking outside the team for potential talent.
that's why i come to the conclusion that Tiny Herb's future looking grim. being a rich championship team in the capital, they might manage to draw high-quality talents, but if they are unable to develop them... they might be left behind other teams with better team environment, championship team or not (Thunderclap, for example).
wow it ends up long, i actually want to add my thoughts about Qiao Yifan's characterisation. but i think the chapter speaks for itself. just because we see Qiao Yifan moving on, focusing on the good things, showing no resentment towards Tiny Herb. it doesn't mean he's not hurt. i am close to tears when i read Qiao Yifan's thoughts during his time in Tiny Herb. he's just a kid. it needs to be acknowledged, by themselves, and by the club. it might create a better environment for them all.

fic chapter: In the space of your leaving (chapter 9/10)
The King's Avatar, GaoQiao. M-rated. Breaking-up & making up, long-distance relationship, demi!GYJ, angst with a happy ending... and we have finally reached the happy ending, hooray! (Ok, fine, there is a chapter 10, and it's even happier; it's more of an epilogue, though.)
Gao Yingjie doesn’t answer Qiao Yifan’s message. He has no idea what to say or, at least, he can’t quite bring himself to tap out something politely formulaic. He takes his keys and coat blankly when his stepdad brings them over. He puts on his outside shoes. He walks downstairs with his mind in a haze; all he can think about is how much this feels like a scene from some dumb romance, and yet—and yet.
Read over here on the A03. (Also, here's a link to the first chapter bc why not.)

word count — 2.4K
"You're supposed to be protecting the boss' sister, not fucking her brains out." Hui was worried for his hyung. The end result of his reckless behavior and raging hormones would probably be him swallowing led. "Hyung, are you even paying attention to what I'm saying?"
Yifan had heard it all before. The warnings, the scoldings, nothing about it was new to him. He knew the consequences of his actions, but he didn't really bother to quote, "give a flying fuck about it."
Yifan simply smiled at the younger boy and chuckled. "Don't worry about me, Hui-ah. I won't die, at least not yet." Hui visibly cringed at the last part. He cared about Yifan immensely. I mean, how could he not? Yifan had practically raised him ever since he had first joined the mafia and the mere thought of the older man being shot dead, or worse, tortured, made his heart clench in pain.
"What if they hurt her too? Just to spite you."
Yifan hadn't thought of it that way. He swallowed thickly and shook his head. "That won't happen."
Hui fiddled the ends of his jacket and sighed. "Who are you trying to convince here? Me or yourself?"
The images came in a blinding white. You were splayed on the floor, crimson pooling around your limp body. The maniacal laugh of your brother ringing in his ears. Yifan blinked them away. "Just drink your beer and let's get the hell out of here already."
The conversation ended there. There was no more talk after that, not even when they piled inside the car and drove off.
It was nearly half past ten and you were buried underneath layers of soft, silk sheets, asleep and at peace, until had felt the familiar touch of Yifan lingering on the exposed skin of your cheek. You stirred in your sleep and unbeknownst to you, you smiled out of instinct.
Yifan did this often. He would come into your room when the manor fell quiet and asleep, admiring the image of yourself in deep, tranquil slumber. He thought you looked prettiest like this; eyes closed, lips parted and mind at rest. He knew you also felt better when you were asleep because then you wouldn't have to face your demons, or your brother, which who could also amount to the title of the devil's associate himself.
When his touch could no longer be felt on your skin, you whined involuntarily and called for him.
Yifan couldn't resist you, even from the start when you were just merely the boss' sister, whom he'd have to guard and protect at all costs. "Sleep well now, baby." His voice coaxes you back to sleep.
Morning comes and you're now alone in your bed, much to your dismay. You ran a finger along your cheek, reminiscing the way Yifan's touch had lingered there. You smiled to yourself at the thought of him.
And speaking of the devil, he comes through the door, hair slightly unkempt and lips set in a frown. "Get ready, your brother is coming to visit."
"Brother," the word tastes bitter in your mouth and for one reason only; Junmyeon could never call himself your brother. The man, although sweet and kind towards you, was anything but towards those who worked, or rather slaved, for him and to those who had wronged him or your family.
Yifan sighed. "Please just ready," with that, he leaves and you get out of bed with a roll of your eyes, and a slump of your shoulders.
You always dreaded visits from your brother. Talking to him was like talking to a ticking time bomb. At any given moment, he could explode and the damage was far beyond repair. You've been there many times before, but unlike the rest, you're probably the only one who makes it out alive each time. Being his sister had it's perks, I guess you could say.
You're dressed in white when he comes through the manor's doors. He looks dashing and handsome as per usual; hair slicked back, suit pressed and crisp, and designer shoes shiny and pristine as he takes long strides towards you. You don't bother to hide the displeasure in your face when he stops in front of you. You didn't like your brother, that much was obvious, so why bother hiding it?
Junmyeon tried to give you a smile.
"Y/N," he greets you. "how uhm, how have you been?"
Your gaze hardens and you peer behind his shoulder to catch a glimpse of the pretty plaything he managed to drag along. Poor girl, is all you can think of for her. "I've been better. What about yourself? I see you've brought someone along with you today? She's pretty."
Junmyeon glances behind his shoulder and nods. "She's just a friend —"
"Oh I'm sure she is." Junmyeon narrows his eyes at you as if to tell you to cut it out, but you enjoyed to poke fun at him. It's refreshing to see him all flustered and red. It makes you feel better.
"Ah Yifan, so good to see you." You don't miss the shift in your brother's tone. It sends a chill down your spine. And judging by the sinister glint in his eyes, you figure Junmyeon knows something you don't. "Now that you're here, I'd like to speak to both of you in the dining hall. Perhaps, in private?" You glance over at Yifan for a brief moment, panic evident in your eyes.
Yifan, on the other hand, remains calm and stoic. Not flinching once when your brother sends him and yourself a mischievous stare.
Junmyeon situates himself at the the head of the table because growing up, he's been taught that whoever sat at the head of the table had the most power and Junmyeon knew he had power, a lot of it actually.
He pulls out his gun from it's holster and twirls it around in his hand.
"You both know, especially you Yifan, that I hate it when people deceive me." He starts and you already know where this is going and where this will end. "So imagine my surprise when a little birdy tells me that one of my best men goes behind my back and starts fucking around with my sister." You were caught red handed.
Yifan doesn't even flinch when Junmyeon cocks his pistol and aims it at him.
"I need to hear you both admit it right now. Tell me right now, or I swear to god I will shoot you in the fucking head —"
"Why do you even care, Junmyeon?"
Junmyeon can't contain his shock at your informal addressing towards him. You usually called him oppa, or Junmyeon-oppa. He glared at you. "Why do I even — What do you even mean by that? Of course I care! I'm your brother for god's sake!"
You step in front of Yifan, arms crossed and eyes turned into slits. This was your tipping point.
You scoffed. "You don't act like one, that's for sure."
Junmyeon's eyes widen. "Excuse me?"
"You know what I don't get? How can you claim to care for me yet you hurt the people I love, leave me to wither away in this god forsaken mansion? You don't care for me, you don't even love me." Junmyeon had never felt this overwhelmed by hurt in a long time. The last time he felt this way was when your parents had been massacred along with a few of your uncles and close family friends.
"You push me away, locked me in here, and killed our Shownu-oppa and yet demand that I respect and treat you like you're my brother?" Your voice rises with each word your utter and by the end of your sentence, you're screaming your lungs out and crying pathetically.
Yifan has his hands on either side of your waist and this seems to set Junmyeon off. The bullet misses Yifan by millimeters and he cripples to the ground, clutching his ringing ear.
"What the fuck!" You yell at Junmyeon, who looks absolutely livid with his wild, bloodshot eyes.
He stands up from his seat and storms over to where you stood. "Get out of the fucking way." But you stood your ground, shielding Yifan's body with your own.
"Move or I will shoot you." He threatened.
You mocked him. "I dare you."
Junmyeon, blinded by rage, slaps you across the cheek so hard it sends you flying to the floor. Yifan sees this and is quick to tackle Junmyeon to the ground with a yell. "You don't fucking put your hands on her!" He growls in between his jabs.
Yifan is aware that he's a dead man after this whole situation. You don't beat your boss to a pulp and expect to come out alive in the end. Again, there are always consequences to your actions. But for you, Yifan is willing to risk it all.
Hui watches with wide eyes as Yifan lands a particularly hard blow, and a loud crunch could be heard throughout the room. He practically drags Yifan off their boss and rushes to aid Junmyeon, who, by the looks of it, is in pretty bad shape. "Jesus Christ! Yifan, you nearly killed him!" The other men in the room back him into a corner with their guns raised at him.
"Yifan!"
All eyes fall on you and the evident gash on your cheek. There's blood that runs down your face. Junmyeon's ring, the ring that all of the mafia wore, Yifan included, had broke the skin of your face, which resulted in you bleeding profusely. He hit you pretty damn hard.
The pretty girl Junmyeon had brought with him earlier was by his side, wiping away the blood that dripped from the wound on his eyebrow with the sleeves of the blazer she had on and glared at you.
"Get off me, I'm alright!" Junmyeon struggled to get on his feet, but managed anyways. He walked slowly towards Yifan. "You're a fucking dead man, you know that? First, you screw my sister, and now you try to kill me? You have a fucking death wish!" Yifan grins smugly at him. "I should have hit you harder." The first shot was made and the bullet went straight into Yifan's thigh.
You screamed and ran towards Yifan, but you were pulled back by Hui, who looked absolutely mortified in that moment. He didn't want you to get caught in the cross fire.
"Junmyeon stop! Stop it!" But your pleas fell on deaf ears as the second shot echoed in your ears. This time, the bullet dug itself into his arm. "The next bullet is going straight through your fucking head."
You pounded against Hui's chest as you screamed desperately for your brother to stop. "You think killing him will make you a better brother? You think I'd ever forgive you after this? I hate you and I will always hate you no matter what!" That seemed to struck a nerve in Junmyeon as his gun was now aimed at you.
"Shut the fuck up!" He sneered.
Hui's grip seemed to loosen around you, and you took this opportunity to march right up to your brother. "What, you're going to shoot me now? Just like you shot Shownu-oppa? You think you're capable of killing another one of your siblings, huh?"
Tears spilled from the brim of his slightly swollen eyes and it's the first time in a long time you've seen him like this; so vulnerable and hurt.
"Let's face it, Junmyeon. We can never go back to the way we once were, you had decided that the moment you killed our brother."
Junmyeon was practically breathing in your face as he stepped closer. "He killed our parents. He killed aeomma and appa, even Heechul-hyung. You remember Heechul, don't you? He was a kind man, extremely warm and loving. But he's dead and it's all because of Shownu."
You swallowed bitterly. "Our parents weren't good people, nor was Heechul-oppa and you know that. You and I can both attest to their wrong doings. I remember we were kids and you told me, you fucking promised me that you were going to be nothing like them. But here you are now, a monster. Just like our parents. Just like the person you promised you'd never become."
Junmyeon wails and for a moment, you think he'd change his mind, that he'd finally come to his senses. But the gun goes off for the third time and your white dress is tainted in crimson. Your cripple to your knees and you hear Yifan scream in the background.
Junmyeon doesn't even look at you as you bled out on the floor.
"You are a bastard! I'll fucking kill you!" Yifan is red in the face, tears streaming down his cheeks as he watches as you struggle to breathe and cope with the burning sensation in your side. "I'll kill you."
Junmyeon smiles at him. "I'll see you in hell."
Four gun shots and Yifan falls limp to the floor.
Junmyeon sighs. "Get her to Doctor Choi, so he can stitch her up or something."
Everything just happens in a blur and on occasion, you fall in and out of an inviting darkness that wraps itself around you like a warm, cashmere blanket. You had never felt so at peace.
You were half-awake when you hear your brother's soft voice talking to you. "I'm trying. I really am. I don't want you to go down the path I went, or the path Shownu-hyung went. I want you to be different, to be better."
"I'm just scared for you," he admits in a low voice. "All I want is the best for you. Yifan, that man was just going to get you killed. Hell, even being my sister could get you killed. But I just, I don't want to risk it any further." When his lips press against the back of your hand, your heart cries out and you suddenly want to be nine, playing with paper airplanes with Junmyeon and making promises you can't keep.
"I did this for you." He gets up and starts to walk to the exit.
Your eyes flutter open. "You killed the man I love, you could never justify that." Junmyeon spins around and stares at you wide-eyed. "Sometimes, I wish it was you that died and not Shownu-oppa." When the words roll of your tongue, a strange feeling of relief fills your chest along with the bitter taste of regret lingering in your mouth.
Junmyeon nods and smiles softly at you. "Me too, me too."

New Rules
Genre: Angst (emotional abuse), Smut, Fluff, Songfic
Members: Kris, Suho
Words: 746
A/N: I’m tired and idk if i like this yet
I've got new rules, I count 'em I've gotta tell them to myself
Tumblr media
1. Don’t pick up the phone
His name flashing across the screen makes your heart flutter; a feeling no one else gives you. You’re lucky he calls you. Of all the contacts in his phone, he chose you.
“Hello?” You answer after the second ring.
“Y/N…” Yifan breathes into the receiver, “I miss you.”
There’s a ping of giddiness in your chest.
“I miss you too.”
“I need you.” He whines.
He never whines… unless he’s drunk.
“Should I come over?” You suggest nervously.
“If you want to… I want you to.”
“Give me a few minutes… I love you.” You say, and suddenly, he hangs up.
This habit needs to stop.
2. Don’t let him in.
The knocks on your front door in the early morning are surprising. Seeing the person on the other side is even more surprising.
Yifan is propped against the frame with a small smirk on his lips. You find yourself mesmerized by them as he speaks, talking his way into your apartment, into your heart. Only when he has you pressed against a wall, mouth attached to your neck, do you realize what’s happening… and you strangely don’t want this.
“Yifan.” You sigh, nudging at his chest.
He hums in response.
“Stop. You need to leave.”
“She doesn’t know I’m here.”
“This isn’t fair.” You squirm in his arms.
He leans back with an incredulous look, “Do you know how many girls would kill to be in your position?”
“Then go to one of their apartments.” You blurt out of annoyance.
Yifan rolls his eyes with a scoff and leaves, slamming the door behind him.
Kicking him out has become a chore.
3. Don’t be his friend.
It started with a call. She broke up with him, and he needed a crutch. But it feels more like a rebound. After drinking his sorrows, Yifan is above you on his bed, lips connected. His hand is busy beneath your panties.
“You’re so wet.” He smirks against your skin.
“Please.” You whimper in response.
He knows what you want and begins sliding your intimates down your legs. You impatiently watch as he rolls a condom down his shaft.
In the moment it feels amazing, but in the morning when you wake up, you’re going to feel used.
You need to get over him.
I’ve got new rules, I count ‘em.
1. Don’t pick up the phone
His name flashing across the screen makes Joonmyeon angry. You avert your eyes to your lap; you can’t look at the pained expression on Joonmyeon’s face. He knows your history with Yifan and doesn’t like it one bit.
“Please stop calling this number. Thank you.”
Your eyes fly open to find Joonmyeon ending the call.
“I’m blocking his number. He doesn’t deserve you.”
You feel his hand squeeze yours gently. He leans in to leave a kiss on your cheek.
You could get use to this.
2. Don’t let him in.
The knocks on your front door in the early morning are annoying. Joonmyeon is no longer in a good mood when he sees the person on the other side.
“Who are you?” Yifan questions in disgust.
“I should ask you the same thing.” Joonmyeon folds his arms over his bare chest.
“Where’s Y/N?”
“She doesn’t want to speak to you right now.”
“She’s not in love with you.” Yifan says defensively.
“She’s not in love with you either.” Joonmyeon shuts the door quickly.
“She knows who can make her feel beautiful!” You hear Yifan’s muffled shout.
“If he ever shows up again, I’m kicking his ass.” Joonmyeon cups your cheeks with a grin before kissing your nose.
That was easier.
3. Don’t be his friend.
She came back. Not that you care. You’ve only heard things through friends now. Maybe he can change for her. But you honestly don’t care what happens because right now Joonmyeon is a writhing mess under you, and that is a beautiful sight.
Your hips slowly gyrate down on him. His arms wrap around your waist, and he flips you over. You bring him back into a kiss. Fingers sift through hair and tug. Hot breaths and sighs fill the room. He presses you closer to his body. A moan slips from your lips as he slows down.
“I love you so much.” He says when he pulls back and looks into your eyes, “I’m glad I met you.”
Your heart flutters; a feeling no one else will give you.

13 reasons why SM might be the devil (TaoRis Edition)
Welcome to 13 reasons why SM might be the devil, a compilation of a lot of reasons nobody should ever sign with SM, why does people do that again? Ooooh contracts and gag orders, I forgot silly me.’’
Today I spy with my little eye, two former Exo members! Oh there is a surprise for me, I would have assumed that those two would have no issue finding a new pack, but both of their necks are bite free.
Why do you guys look so sad? Oh yeah I forgot it is the anniversary of you guys leaving the Exo pack and fleeing to China, I always wonder do you guys regret it? Do you miss them? Now I am silly, I already know the answer to that. I understand why you left, it wasn’t like you could let Tao leave alone could you Yifan?
And it wasn’t like Tao could stay now could he? I still can’t believe that they would do that to him, they should have realized that it had already failed with one group now they wanted to do it again.
Oh god please don’t cry Tao, SM aren’t right! You are an amazing omega, fuck stereotypes, there are no rules about how omega’s have to look or act! Yifan! Do something! Now! Please!
Seems like even getting out of SM’s evil grasp havn’t healed the wounds left behind, by loosing your pack. Oh wow it gotta be hard for you Yifan more than anything, you basically abandoned your pack even tho you were the pack leader, do you ever regret not letting Yixing do it? You know that he offered being the one doing it, but instead you left behind Minseok to be the pack alpha a sitatuation he never wanted.
Do you regret not forcing Lu Han to leave with you? Do you wonder what would have happened if you did? I know he is stubborn and he didn’t want to leave Exo with just one omega, he didn’t want to put that preassure on Baekhyun, but in the end it just ended up worse.
Wait stop, why are you guys speaking to those people, I understand why you are doing it, but I feel like this might end up worse, guys? Hold on? Stop! Have you thought this through cause I don’t think you have! This could really hurt everybody! GUYS!?

Secret in His Eyes
Tumblr media
Spinoff of Sins of the Father
Genre: Mafia Au
Pairing: Luhan x Reader
Summary: A vacation exploring China’s famous city was supposed to be relaxing. When you witness a horrifying murder, you instead find yourself in police custody, unable to run. Warning: Mentions of blood and gun violence
A/N: Sorry the gif is rough... I didn’t take as much time on it...
Part: Prologue I 1 I 2 I 3 I 4 I 5 I 6 I 7 I 8 I 9 I 10 I 11 I 12
**
“Well, at least we know where she is now.”
Kris was quick to give Tao a very deserved smack to the back of the head. The latter glared at the one who hit him, but didn’t fight back.
“We don’t know where she is,” Luhan said through teeth clenched so tight his jaw muscles were crying from the pain. But it was either that or completely destroy the room to let out his desperation and frustration.
“There was nothing else in the envelope?” Yixing asked, his own voice thick with worry. “Nothing that might say where the picture was taken?”
Tao turned the envelope upside down and shook it, but nothing else fell out.
“Why taunt you like this if they aren’t going to give a place for us to fall into their trap?” Kris wondered.
Yixing frowned. “You think it’s a trap?”
Kris nodded. “Positive. Why else take her and then send a picture like this? I doubt they know the exact nature of Luhan’s relationship with (y/n), but I guarantee that they know about her involvement with the murder and the investigation against Luhan. Especially since word of us taking her from the motel had started to spread.”
“So, what?” Luhan scoffed. He sntached the picture from Tao and glowered down at the glossy surface. Streaks of lights bounced off photo paper despite the darkness of the subject. Without even thinking, his fingernails ripped through the back of the picture and his handles crumbled the remaining scraps before throwing the ball across the room. “I couldn’t care less as to why they took her. We need to get her back. I promised her I would keep her safe and get her back home. I plan on keeping that promise if I have to die trying.”
“Since when did the genre of our lives go from a crime thriller to a love drama?” Tao uttered underneath his breath.
“Tragic love lives tend to be the norm in this business,” Yixing replied with a downcast face. The female doctor looked at him curiously, but said nothing.
Luhan swallowed. “I need this to be a different ending.”
Tao tossed down the envelope where it landed near the woman’s feet. “We can’t do anything if we don’t know where to start.”
Frowning, the woman bent down and picked up the envelope, holding it up to the light. Noticing the strange action, Yixing straightened up.
“What are you doing?”
“I thought I saw something earlier….” The woman ripped the sides of the envelope to expose the inside. Sure enough, right within the lining was an address, small and easily missed if one was looking directly into the enclosure.
“So, that’s where the trap is,” Luhan said thoughtfully.
“Do we go in guns blazing?” Tao asked a little too gleefully.
“Not exactly,” Luhan shot down. A new determination was in his eyes, a fire roared to life as if a can of lighter fluid had been poured over it.  “But we are going. Soon.”
He was going to get you back. He was going to make sure that you made it home, even if it meant he had to take his last breath.
**
If your subconscious had been able to imagine the situation you would be in once you woke up, this… was not it.
No, it wasn’t a luxury hotel or even Luhan’s mansion, but at least you weren’t chained to a wall or tied to an unforgiving chair. Although your wrists did hurt and red indentions told you that you might have been restrained at one point, you were free to roam around now. The room you were in was tiny, like a broom closet, but it still held a bed and dresser with enough room to maneuver around.
Even as you slipped off the bed, you braced yourself for the inevitable outcome. You were in this room for a reason and you doubted Detective Zhuang wanted you anywhere. But if you didn’t try, you felt that you would be giving up. You didn’t fight to stay alive this entire time only to sit down a hundred feet from the finish line.
You couldn’t believe it. It turned. The doorknob turned. Not only did the knob turn, the door opened. Was this a trap? A tease?
You didn’t care. You’d take the risk of the rogue officer mocking you. The door opened up to an industrial-looking hallway. Maybe this room really was a closet at one point.
Stepping out with one foot, you went slowly, checking every direction for any sign of life that might force you back into the room. There was none so you kept going.
As you went farther down the hallway you could hear the faintest of voices. You were more than certain you were getting closer to the main area of the industrial building. The only questions left were why were you here and what would happen to you if you were caught.
The end of the hallway came. There was no exit in the opposite direction so these doors were your only option. Quiet as a mouse, you pushed one of the doors open and peeked your head through. Several burly looking men were roaming around, unpacking guns from wooden crates, going over what could have either been checklists or invoices, among other nefarious activities. Though her back was to you, it was easy enough to pick out Detective Zhuang as she spoke to one of the men.
Now that you’d pinpointed your kidnapper, you searched around the large open room for the exit that could lead to freedom. You nearly cheered out loud from relief. The exit was along the same wall the hallway entrance was and most of the way was blocked by oversized crates. Perhaps fate didn’t hate you so much after all.
While moving in a slow, cautious way in order to avoid drawing attention, you snuck out between the doors and headed for the exit, bent over nearly in half so you didn’t create a shadow that would show beyond the crates. You hurried towards the doors, already thinking of different scenarios that would take you back to Luhan.
Freedom was just within your reach. Only a couple more steps and-
“So glad you’re awake now.”
Damn it!
You didn’t consider any alternative. You ran for the door, hoping to make it out, but Detective Zhuang’s men were quicker. Two blocked your path while another practically body slammed you into the wall and then caged you within his arms. You kicked and squirmed to no avail as he carried you over to the woman who’d made your life hell. No courtesy was given to you. The man practically threw you down to the ground at Detective Zhuang’s feet. There was no holding back the whimper in your throat as your knees and palms scraped against the rough concrete floor.
“You shouldn’t have tried to run,” Detective Zhuang shrugged as you nursed your wounds.
“You didn’t have to kidnap me in the first place,” you retorted.
She shrugged. “You should have learned to mind your business.”
“Just let me go home like you promised,” you begged. “That’s all I want.”
That was a lie. It wasn’t anywhere near the only thing you wanted right now. You wanted to see Luhan one more time, to warn him about who was really behind all of this. And to say goodbye, if this really was the end.
Detective Zhuang sighed sympathetically. “I can't do that now. You know too much.”
“Too much?” You scoffed. “I hardly know anything. I don’t know why you’re doing this. Why you’re going against the very laws you swore to uphold.”
Bending down to meet you at your level, her eyes searched your own before drifting down the ground. “I used to believe in good. I used to believe in the law. Now all I believe in is the balance of life and death.”
You shook your head. “Why? What happened?” It was impossible to know why, but you wanted to understand. Hell, you almost needed to understand. Maybe if she gave you the reason, you could find a way to change her mind.
It was silent for a minute or two, only the sounds of your breathing reaching your ears. Finally, she looked up at you. “I grew up in the world that Luhan controls. Before he ever rose to power, there was my father. He was the most feared in the criminal world. He ruled the underground and no police force dared to touch him. Admittedly, while growing up, I hated him. I hated what he stood for and I vowed to be nothing like him. So I became the opposite of what he was. I became the best damn officer in the city. But he was still my father. I still loved him, whether I could admit it or not.
“Then a man named Luhan started taking over, occupying territory he had no right to. And he eliminated anyone who stood in his way.” Detective Zhuang licked her lips and gave a humorless smirk. “I think you can guess what happened next. My father was taken from me, so I’m going to keep taking from Luhan until the scales are once again equal. I’ve been ruining his business, but I need more. I need his life.”
“There is nothing equal in taking a life for another life,” you argued. “If he really is the reason your father died, then as a detective, you should have let the law do its job. You can’t take justice into your own hands.”
That was apparently the wrong thing to say. Grasping your chin and digging her fingernails into your skin, she hissed, “You think I didn’t consider that? There was no physical evidence connecting his death to Luhan. And no judge would be brave enough to convict him.”
“Killing him still isn’t the solution.” It was probably a huge mistake to continue insisting that she was wrong, but you couldn’t help yourself. She wanted to kill Luhan. And you didn’t even want to imagine a world where he wasn’t walking around with that big stupid smile on his face. “He has two others with him. Even if he were to die, they’d still keep going.”
Pushing herself back up, Detective Zhuang laughed once. “I don’t care about their business. They can do what they want. As soon as I have Luhan lying cold in the ground, I’m leaving the country, happy and content for avenging my father.”
You shook your head. “That won’t make you happy. Anyone with any sort of common sense knows that.”
Bang!
You flinched at the noise, thinking maybe she’d finally had enough and shot you. But no pain came. In fact, it wasn’t a gun at all that made the noise. It was the main doors being shoved open. The air was ripped from your lungs as you watched Luhan strut in, his normal air of confidence tenfold. Only part of you was relieved, however. You knew he was in danger and waltzing in here like he was invincible was a dumb move. But it was also very him.
“I honestly thought you would come sooner,” Detective Zhuang mocked. “Have difficulty finding the place?”
“Not really,” Luhan replied in the same cheeky tone. “Especially since you printed it on the inside of the envelope.”
Detective Zhuang shrugged. “I couldn’t make it too easy for you.” Reaching back behind her, she pulled out a pistol, clicking back the barrel to make sure a round was in the chamber before aiming the weapon at your head. “But now that you’re here, we can attend to business.”
Luhan threw his hands up, stopping in his tracks immediately. “I should have known it was you. (y/n) would trust you, especially since she can’t understand Chinese.”
This whole time, you’d been able to keep up with everything that was going on, but now you were lost. “What are you talking about?”
For the first time since he’d walked in, he met your eyes. “Remember that day in the car? Outside the precinct?” You nodded. “You were happy to recognize her voice, but what you didn’t know what she was saying. The other detectives were asking about who to find you, but she didn’t care. She told them to forget about you and to follow other leads. They had your statement, why would they need to find you again?”
“Why would I need to find her?” Detective Zhuang agreed. “I knew you had her. I knew where your mansion was located and that you would keep any threat to your precious empire close. If she got hurt along the way, then so be it.”
You felt like an idiot. Her words in the beginning, in that interview room… you fell for them hook, line, and sinker. “Did you plan for me to get taken?”
“I didn’t think Luhan would come get you himself, but I knew he’d try to get his hands on you one way or another. I couldn’t care less if you had proper protection. He’d keep you safe for the time being, until I had use for you. ”
“Because you’re so clever,” Luhan said dryly.
Rolling her eyes, Detective Zhuang said, “You might want to watch that mouth. I’m a little heavy fingered and I’d hate to prematurely pull the trigger. Then again, now that we’re face to face, neither of us really need her, do we?”
All jesting was gone from Luhan’s voice. “If you want me, you’ll let her go. Now.”
Detective Zhuang acted as if she were really thinking about it, even moving her gun from you to Luhan. “That was a bit demanding, Luhan. Why would you care if a stupid foreigner died or not?” A few seconds of silence went by and then she laughed. “Don’t tell me the great Deer fell for someone? You actually let yourself develop a weakness? Well, this changes everything.” She trained her gun on you once more. “I was just going to kill you slowly. But now… now I think I’ll kill her first and let you sit on that for a while, so you can feel what I felt when you killed my father.”
“No!” Luhan fell to his knees, panic striking in his eyes. “Stick with your original plan. Kill me. Torture me. But let her go. She doesn’t deserve this!”
More silence filled the room. All the men standing around flickered their eyes back and forth between the stand off.
“I’ve considered your offer,” she said, “but I think I’ll decline. So say goodbye- AH!”
The gun fell from Detective Zhuang’s grip. She clutched her hand to her chest and your eyes widened in horror as you saw red liquid run down her wrist. Luhan jumped back up to his feet and ran to you while the main doors swung open once more.
Kris and Tao charged into the room, guns in every hand that lit up with each bullet that left their chambers. Luhan tugged you out of the fire’s way, making sure to keep his body between you and the fight. Crouching behind a wall of crates, he turned your around and cradled your face as he searched for any signs of injury.
“I’m alright,” you insisted, but he didn’t stop looking.
“Are you sure? She’s had you for hours and-”
You stopped him with a quick kiss. Perhaps the wrong moment, but you were too happy to be near him again to care. “I’m fine. I promise.”
Closing his eyes, he leaned his forehead against yours. “I thought I’d lost you for good. I thought you’d ran away from me.”
“Technically, I did,” you confessed. “She said she was going to send me home. I had to take the chance. I guess I should have thought about it a little more.”
Luhan pulled back and shook his head before pulling you back into a hug. “I don’t blame you.”
“Okay!” Tao called out from the other side of the barrier. “The people are dead!”
Getting back to your feet, Luhan made sure to stay in front of you as the two of you emerged from safety. Bodies littered the ground, making you shrink into his back. You wanted to leave. Now.
“That was quick,” Luhan said, impressed.
“They weren’t the best marksmen,” Tao shrugged.
Kris frowned at his right shoulder. “But I liked this shirt.”
Tao laughed. “I told you to change before we came.”
“Speaking of marksmen….” Luhan looked up at the ceiling, eyes scanning the windows that lined the top of the warehouse. A vague shadow moved on the other side. One of the windows above the crates opened and a figure landed on top of them before climbing down the side.
“Yixing?” You gasped at the doctor who came over, a long range rifle strapped to his back.
He nodded at you, but there wasn’t any hint of a smile on his face. “Glad to see you’re safe.”
You, however, did give him a small one. “Thank you.”
“Come on,” Luhan urged. “Let's get out of here.”
“Don’t worry,” Kris said. “We’ll take care of this.”
Luhan gave him a short nod and led you out of the warehouse where you could breathe normally for the first time in too long.

The Last Poisoner
Author: VOlympianlove
Pairing: Yifan/Yixing
Rating: PG13
Summary:
Poison /ˈpɔɪz(ə)n/ noun 1. a substance that is capable of causing the illness or death of a living organism when introduced or absorbed. "he killed himself with poison" synonyms: toxin, venom;
CHEMISTRY a substance that reduces the activity of a catalyst.
PHYSICS an additive or impurity in a nuclear reactor that slows a reaction by absorbing neutrons.
something that has a destructive or corrupting influence.
Warnings: Major character death
Thoughts: I wrote this for kissfanxing. It was mainly meant to be something more experimental because I’ve never done such a dark concept before and it just came to me. So not very plot based, just characters and dark things happening.

LISTEN can you imagine how annoying yingjie and yifan would be to live with, can you imagine the amount of mutual pining and melodramatics and how they would sigh a lot and worry about growing apart and just generally mope about looking desolate and everyone gets really worried (uh. the 1.2 people with people skills in happy) and gently make suggestions like
“you should just call him”
and yifan is like, gently confused smile, i called him last night?
and they literally talk every night and game together in their spare time (yingjie determinedly refuses to go near ye xiu after being tossed away so they use smurf accounts and play the storyline quests) and send each other messages on wechat and yingjie visits happy during the break (and first gets shanghai’d by chen guo to help man the desk because he’s far less useless than ye xiu, then gets tricked into helping happy run a raid and you know ye xiu is on the phone to wang jiexi crowing about stealing another one of his pillars and wang jiexi is all, big sigh, please don’t break him) and they make a huge dramatic fuss about having to separate when yingjie's leave is over, you know, yifan doing the big smile and “safe journey!” then standing by the door and looking down, biting his lip and just projecting Extreme Sadness while everyone else rolls their eyes because goddamnit, teenagers.
(the biggest show is when yingjie has to leave, but there’s a mini soap opera every time ye xiu calls a team meeting and yingjie isn’t allowed in, they start looking puppy eyed when the cafe is crowded and they can’t sit next to each other)
(every one is extremely sick of their shit but no one, not even ye xiu, can bring themselves to call yifan out on it.)
meanwhile, wang jiexi really did not sign up for yingjie moping gently around the practice room and shooting him doleful looks until wang jiexi sucks it up and asks what’s wrong, and yingjie just sighs and goes, nothing... and then half a second later, looks bravely determined and, captain, you have friends on other teams, right?
(wang jiexi signed up to game, he did not sign up for this. he’s starting to reconsider yingjie as a pillar. pillars need to be stable.)
(except he’s really not and with a sigh the size of an ocean in his heart, sits yingjie down to have the most awkward heart to heart ever)
the only people who are actually willing to sit yingjie down and gently, but firmly, explain to him that he’s a giant idiot is the rest of tiny herb’s sub line because they have to live with this mopey bastard, who goes from dolefully wide-eyed to looking down at his phone and smiling soppily in a heartbeat and then easily slaughters them during practice. it’s demeaning.
also, wang jiexi gives them the eyebrow whenever yingjie casually wipes them out in solos and continues moping after taking his headphones off which is, quite frankly, terrifying.

one of those nights
junmyeon didn't understand where the temptation came from, after having it buried for almost an year and a half. he knows he still have the small picture album of them on the lowest drawer on his wardrobe, and just the thought of taking a peek sends pangs of unidentifiable emotions through his being.
all those days and nights, he'd pretended to be strong, like it didn't effect him when it effected him the most. yifan took half of his soul when he left, without a word, without goodbye, and junmyeon felt broken. he doesn't say it though, he acts like it barely fazed him, he had to be stronger for his members. so he buried them, all their precious memories and all their moments, the shared kisses, stolen glances and jokes, he takes it all and buries it deep in his heart so he could be strong.
but when nights like this come, temptation knocking on his door and junmyeon just gives in to the sadness that's created home in his soul and takes out the album. the blurred pictures, emotions and actions captured in frozen still moments where everything felt perfect and right.
at that moment, everything he's built up over the year comes crashing down in a matter of seconds. the emotions pour, like water from an open tap, trickling into his hands, filling up and overflowing at the edges and spills down. junmyeon wasn't so strong anymore, as he clutches the pictures to his chest and cries in the darkness. it's one of those nights, where he can't stand being the strong leader he was, standing up for 10 others, looking and caring after them yet neglecting himself in process just to forget the memories, to forget the happiness, to get rid of the sadness and emptiness.
he can't always be strong, he can't seem to bury kris deep inside his heart, he can't get over those hurtful feelings, that used to make him so happy yet. he can't stop being sad tonight.
