YOU GUYS WONT BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED TO ME
something INSANE just happened. ok, so, I was on the bus watching @strange-aeons video on the croaker when a girl with long dark ebony hair with purple streaks and red tips sat beside me. she was SO CUTE AND GOTH!!!!! so, she glances at my phone and says "omg. is that father strange??" I WAS SCREAMING. SHE KNEW A STRANGE AEONS AND SHE WAS LIKE SO PERFECT IN EVERY WAY. So naturally I said yes, this is strange's video on the croaker and complimented her goth outfit. We literally spent like 17 minutes talking ab the croaker when a group of em*s got in the bus. The perfect girl that sat beside me (lets call her S) was like ughhhh I hate em*s. which SAME they're literally posers that don't even dress well but ok. anyway, so the em*s got in front of us and started talking among themselves like the squirmy little rats they are, and then the leader (let's call him dumble door) said "you goths are posers. get out of the way" and S said "Ummm we're literally just minding our business. please be respectful." by now most of the bus was watching us, but they were watching more at us than the em*s. they said "this is a em*s zone, you can't be here. goths are posers because they don't live the em* lifestyle, you're just a phase and nothing more" I was furious. so, I said "well actually the bus is public transport, and public means that any person of the populous can use it. so clearly you don't know what public means and are just using your harmful em* rhetoric to harm goths. also, we goths have a very extensive culture and historical background, which you clearly dont know. if your so keen on ignorance then you should get out on the next stop (the next stop was next to a school)" the bus WENT WILD, even the old lady (there was an old lady) was cheering us on. Then one of the emos started crying and got out of the bus while it was moving. I guess we made our point VERY clear. The other emos just moved away to some seats far from us. anyway, a few minutes later me and S got out of the bus and decided to head towards my home to marathon strange's vids. but when we arrived at my house, S said "so... there's something I haven't told you...." then she TOOK OF HER WIG. turns out S, wasn't S at all. She was actually. Strange Aeons. Her hair was also more ebony than the wig. It was also her birthday so I made a cake with blood (we're goth) and celebrated the rest of the day by watching destiel edits (I'm a heller). Yeah, I guess I can say I had a crazy day.

hate to say this bc i enjoy her videos normally and i am literally wearing one of her t-shirts right now, but the new strange aeons video about superwholock is...... not very good? and i doubly hate to say that bc i contributed a little to the video (hi, im the person she got that first superwho post from)
here it is if you haven't watched it, but if you were in fact a superwholockian back in ye olden days, i would say don't bother. there's the (somewhat expected but still disappointing) moffat hate that's straight out of 2011 (she even cites hbomberguys Sherlock Is Garbage And Here's Why video which....... jesus christ can people form an opinion on their own mayhaps), which frankly. i am too old and have done too much work in the Discourse Mines to want to refute all of that, but beyond that i just think she fundamentally gets the appeal of superwholock wrong?
she posits that the three fandoms came together because they all shared one thing in common, which, according to her, is a lack of good female characters and an emphasis on slash shipping. now, that i think is true for Sherlock and Supernatural, but for Doctor Who??? girl, the companion is the second main character and always has been. however badly you think they might have been written, they are (in New Who) always the point of view character of the series. series 5 is all about Amy, series 6 is about Amy and River, series 7 and 8 are about Clara, series 9 is about the relationship between Clara and the Doctor. only series 10 is arguably not about the companion, because that series is more about Missy and the Doctor, but Bill is still our pov character. and when it comes to shipping, the Moffat era has no popular slash ships, it's all Eleven/River, Twelve/Clara and Twelve/Missy (and yes, people do in fact want to Fuck That Old Man). and if you look at superwholock posts, they weren't about shipping, they were about the characters meeting and having adventures together (and drawing parallels between the characters)
here's the thing: superwho came before superwholock, and Supernatural and Doctor Who got crossed over because they were a) massively popular at the time and b) both monster of the week genre shows. they were easy to cross over because the format was the same, only Doctor Who is sci-fi and Supernatural is, well, supernatural. Sherlock got grafted onto superwho because Doctor Who and Sherlock were both showran by Moffat. that's it. like, i was there, i saw it happen.
idk, it just feels like a very lazy video to me. it seems like she only skimmed some old posts and didn't think to ask people who were actually into at the time what the appeal was. it's disappointing.
#i had to get this out of my system sorry#was considering posting this in the comments of the video but frankly i don't want to deal w/ youtube commenters skjdfdsf#BUT I WAS THERE GANDALF#and you know what we had fun#it was a fun time#also her saying there was no other conglomeration fandom like that ummmm what about rise of the brave tangled dragons huh#what about that mess

Hey! I watched strange aeons’s video on bit of earth, and I wanted to ask a question. You don’t have to answer this if you don’t want to, but I was wondering if you’ve ever spoken to any of the actors that were involved with BOE after the explosion of tentmoot. Thanks!
Ahhh yes. I do get asked this often. But any answers will have to wait until my book.

POV: Young Royals is an early 2000s Web 1.0 juggernaut megafandom
During my hiatus earlier this week, @heliza24 and I had a conversation about what Young Royals fandom would be like if it were not a modestly-sized tumblr fandom in the 2020s, but rather an early 00s juggernaut megafandom like the kind you saw on livejournal and individual web pages scattered throughout the internet.
Note: the tone here is 100% silly and inspired by a) my personal history in long ago fandoms and b) repeated viewings of fandom history videos by @strange-aeons. The internet had a bit more of a “wild west” feeling back in those days and you will see that reflected in our ideas.
A lightly edited transcript of my conversation with heliza about fanfic archive names and potential early internet dramas follows…
~
blue: So here’s a topic of discussion YR fandom hasn't done yet. What would each pairing's archive be called if we were watching this show in 2003? I feel like Wilmon would have a few archives, each with a different flavor. Like there'd be a catch-all archive that's pretty friendly and welcoming, an archive just made up of fics where they're adults, and then something for kink and/or dark fic (or those would be separate)
heliza: Our weird multi shipping poly archive is called sprucewood obvs!
blue: Oh there'd probably also be a Wilmon archive that's Edmar RPF-friendly
heliza: One of them would be called The Frog Prince and the Popstar. Maybe that's the RPF favorable one, idk.
blue: Originally was going to say the catch-all, but I think you're right. The catch-all friendly archive would be The Fish Tank.
heliza: Yes love that ahaha. Is the kinky one like Fuck the Monarchy or something like that?
blue: Something like that. Although. Okay there might be two adult archives, but only as a result of an intense fandom schism I feel like there'd be an offshoot of Fuck the Monarchy for people who want King Wilhelm and Prince Consort Simon. Something like King & Consort.
heliza: Ahahah yes perfect. I think there would be a separate Sargust archive! What would you call it?
blue: Yes! With a little cordoned off adult section with its own name. Hmmm I haven't thought of a name yet but I feel like the web design of it would be very Goth.
heliza: Absolutely.
blue: Black backgrounds. Blood red rose incorporated in the web design. Horses, naturally.
heliza: ... The Stables?
blue: Secret Stables
heliza: Yes good
blue: The adult section of the website would be called something extreme like ~Bit & Bridle~
heliza: Perfect
blue: The Stedrika archive is called Lavender Crush because of Stella's hair in S2. It's small but the webmistress is very dedicated and very transparent with her updates.
heliza: yes haha and she's always trying to convert people to femslash. I feel like she would eventually let Sara/Felice and Maddie/Rosh in as well.
blue: I think she co-runs a second site called Manor House which is all YR femmeslash.
heliza: oh right of course
blue: The other webmistress of that site is her wife ten years later.
heliza: Yessss. Strangeaeons makes a video about them. Because there's enough drama but then they end up together
blue: Yes! I think the other mod ran a Rosh and Ayub fan page. Oh there'd be a general fandom archive called Hillerska Skolan Library or something, but it would be a lot of cross-posting.
blue: I feel like we need a Forest Ridge archive too.
heliza: Is that where the Walty and Nilcent goes?
blue: Yes. And like. Alexander being shipped with various people. I feel like it's 2003 so there's lots of combos. And some Wilhelm/Simon/Henry? It would exist, don't ask me how I know, it's just vibes.
heliza: There's a renegade writer who keeps writing Wilhelm/Nils and one who posts August/Simon and it sends the site into an epic fight because there are some mods who insist that this is for ALL THE BOYS EXCEPT SIMON AND WILHELM. And some of them don't mind.
blue: Omg there'd be a small August/Simon archive too
heliza: The lavender crush people are like "wow those boyslashers are intense"
blue: But it's all cross-posting with Forest Ridge… Oh god. Oh god I just thought of the name of the Simon/August archive help.
heliza: Go on
blue: Ok ok… it's a rowing pun… forgive me… it'd be called… Take Out Your Cox
heliza: АНАНАНАНА INCREDIBLE
blue: There's actually a violent schism among sargusters about whether it's ok to also ship Simon/August or not. This schism lines up almost exactly with one's sargust kink preferences and ability to have a sense of humor.
heliza: "It's incest if you ship both!!!"
blue: If a sargust has written dom August, then they are against Simon/August. If a sargust writes Sara domming or writes them switchy, and they have a sense of humor, they definitely write Simon/August… also is the Forest Ridge archive just called Forest Ridge? Wait. The Forest Ridge Archive is called On The Table.
heliza: Oh yes perfect.
blue: OK ALSO—IT IS 2002 OF COURSE THERE IS AN INCEST ARCHIVE SIGH. "Royal Family Affairs" or something.
heliza: Wilhelm/Erik would be big I think
blue: Wilhelm/Erik, Erik/August, any number of other things. Ok but is it primarily dudeslash. Do they shut out the Kristina/Carl Johan shippers? Is that on fandom_wank?
heliza: I feel like the mods would have to let it on because technically it fits the description. But there would be a side chat bitching about it. Wilhelm/August!!! There would be that too.
blue: The mods who are against Kristina/Carl Johan would bitch in an AlM chatroom. Eventually screencaps are leaked, and the Kristina/Carl Johan people start their own archive called Unfortunate Romance.
blue: Ok one more thing. We need a name for the Felice specific archive. Where the Felice/Wilhelm/Simon polyshippers hang out in abundance. I grant this one to you, heliza.
heliza: Is that not Sprucewood? Or a different name?
blue: I leave it to you!
heliza: We haven't used sprucewood yet so I think we should!
blue: Sounds good to me!
heliza: Or if it's just Felice centered it could be Modern Nobility. I think Sprucewood is a reactionary thing actually, where the mods specifically say that all ships are allowed after drama has gone down at enough of the other sites.
blue: Yes. Sprucewood is also the most poly and kink friendly of the sites.
~
That’s all for now! Stay tuned for polls later today about which archives you would have frequented! (And if anyone is better than me at photoshopping/edits/etc and wants to make mockups of what the layouts of these imaginary Y2K websites would look like, down to the “this website contains SLASH, which means hot man on man action, don’t like don’t read, click the third comma in the second paragraph tp enter!” lengthy disclaimer page, then go forth. I think it would be funny.)
#young royals#yr crack#early 2000s fandom#obviously don’t wanna romanticize that era too much but it did feel multishipping friendly#in a way new fandoms don’t as much#and i thought it would be fun to imagine all the different websites and how they’d interact

So fucking happy Dash Con 2 is happening in Toronto, very hear to me, and I am so down to see a tribute to this catastrophe and the joy it could well be.
I for sure always reblogged those jokes on how the original Dash Con was a shit show and made fun of it, but watching the video from @strange-aeons has brought me back to the con times I've been lacking this year and reminded me that there's another perspective of DashCon '14 and how little we have heard of the voices of those who were actually there.
Yes it was a disaster, but it was also a con and a gathering of like-minded people who all belong to something and want to see and meet people like them. The sense of community I have for sure felt from going to the local cons I try to attend every year radiated off the footage some people took and pictures from the con. Also fucking kudos to Doug Jones for being such a good sport, according to attendees. Knowing how much more famous he is now for Star Trek: Discovery and other things, he still seems like the most wholesome guy.
You bet my Canadian ass I will be at this con next year, and I will plan my vacation around this.
The video is linked below for anyone wanting to watch it!

Thoughts on maladaptive daydreaming. Read more for easy skip. 😊
I watched a video on reality shifting (where you experience a time in a reality of your choice - be it one you are an actress or on you go to Hogwarts) by Strange Aeons. Kudos to her for being respectful while also having an opinion! But one big point brought up was where does reality shifting start and maladaptive daydreaming begin?
And I realized that I check quite a few boxes in maladaptive daydreaming (MADD from now on because jesus christ that's too much to keep typing). As a child/teen, I absolutely had my own little reality I would escape to.
In it, I was part of a spy crew that could turn into one animal each, the animal picked based on your personality, and we all had nicknames after that animal. I was Wolf (hi, yes, I was absolutely a wolf girl and this was just an extra level). My crew included Lab (Cody), Fox (Cassie), Eagle (Derek), Bug (Logan), and Panther (Toby). Bug and Eagle were the tech guys, based in a secret safe house directing us to our next mission. Fox, Lab, and I were the boots on the ground people. Sometimes we battled various bad guys. Sometimes (on car rides), we directed a system that chopped down telephone poles and helped spread tree seeds. Instead of a creature running beside the car, I had a friendly robot system that I talked to, and a mission to save the planet. In class, I would type secret messages to my team, and give and receive directives. Every moment I did not have enough real-world stimuli, I was half in that world.
Now, I have to wonder if all that qualifies as MADD, or just regular imagination. Or the secret third option - undiagnosed ADHD child lacking the stimulus she needed.
The quick paraphrased definition of MADD I found is that it's a behavior of excessive daydreaming, usually a coping mechanism, that may disrupt work, hobbies, and/or relationships. Working with that definition, there's a few more boxes to check.
Was it excessive? Yes. Absolutely. While I never had the obsessive bug with this one, it was a constant in my mind. It was always there if I had a moment of boredom, ready to come to the front of my mind.
Was it a coping mechanism? ...sort of? It didn't help me with any real world problems. I was fortunate enough to be a fairly happy child. I had a manageable amount of anxiety. I had close friends just as weird as me, and more close friends that appeared perfectly neurotypical (my brain wants me to rant on this neurodivergent vs neurotypical next, let's skip it for now). My family was loving, if a bit strict, and home was a safe place. I was overall accepted by my peers (despite the teenage urge to divide the alts and the preps, I was accepted by both). I have no trauma, to the point that i can't even try to fake it. But my biggest problem was boredom. In a time before portable video players and smart phones, I was constantly trying to avoid boredom by multitasking. Homework was filled with doodles. Drawings either had a TV in front of them or in an depth story behind them. When I had a DS, it was constantly within reach, and my Animal Crossing world thrived while I had full conversations with family. Car rides and school, with only one focus (that often felt like none), were unbearable unless I slipped inside my fantasy world. That was the only thing I needed to cope with: boredom.
Did it disrupt work, hobbies, or relationships? No. Not at all. My "work" was school at the time, and I was a straight A student despite being half in my false world half the time. My hobbies were drawing, writing, and cross country. The first two i could focus on if the motivation was right. Cross country is, arguably, a very boring sport; running for a fantasy purpose just enhanced the experience. (Hell, my friends and I used to sing a capella during practices to pass the time). My family and friends knew nothing of where my mind wandered. It wasn't a secret or anything, the conversation of what fantasy is playing in your head just never came up, so I never thought to share. I guess if I would have actually thought about it, I would have assumed everyone had their own world they went to when bored.
So... was it MADD? I... don't know. Maybe? If so, by a technicality? I didn't use it to escape a horrible life. Maybe I would have, if I needed to. But it was just something to do. I wasn't delusional, always knew it wasn't real. But it was fun, like a game of pretend with myself.
But I think, to some extent, I still do it. I will always love my fantasy shapeshifter crew. And sometimes, I still catch myself chopping down poles and collecting tree seeds on long car rides. But for the most part, I left that world behind. Now, I only daydream at night.
Perhaps that's due to access to constant stimulus. I work from home, and always have music, podcasts, or youtube on in the background. There's no room, no need for daydreaming. I have headphones in when I walk, the radio on when I drive. I watch tv and browse tumblr at the same time. I have so much I can do at any moment of the day.
But night? I need to occupy myself while I fall asleep. And I pick a scenario to daydream about. I put myself into a fantasy world, usually a fandom but not always, and play out a scene until I fall asleep. Often, I'm in the same world for weeks at a time. Currently, I'm in a crossover with Captain Jack Harkness in the Dragon Age Inquitision storyline, and you bet your ass I'm working on my Blackwall romance! (Tmi, but we're still early on in the campaign, and Jack hasn't found anyone to successfully flirt with, which is driving him insane! But soon we'll meet Dorian and Iron Bull, and I think things will start to look up for Captain Jack). I literally cannot fall asleep without my little stories now.
Is that maladaptive? Have I trained myself to only sleep if I'm in that world? Eh, who cares. It works and it's not hard to do.
So I guess the biggest question left to answer is that of MADD vs... whatever neurodivergency I may or may not have (again, lucky enough to have made it through childhood happy and successful, so never sought diagnosis of anything). If anyone dared to read the ramblings above, please weigh in with your own experiences!
#maladaptive daydreaming#???#please forgive the tag#i have done research#but have no firsthand accounts#if you're in a place to educate... i am willing to learn#rant#long post#read more

Extremely offended by Strange Aeons's superwholock video saying that the shows didn't have well written women other than "Rose and Donna in the good seasons of Doctor Who." Like yes, Supernatural has fascinating women but hates them so so bad and doesn't do anything with them and kills them. Sherlock's women are written in a way that I don't remember anything about any of them. And I am used to people hating Clara and I know no one watched Bill or Thirteen's seasons, but MARTHA?????? You're gonna deliberately leave out RTD's best companion?????????

Artits asks~
18. Do you have any larger projects you'd like to pursue? Like comics, shortfilm, a series etc?
22. When is your prime time to work on your art?
23. Do you listen to music or watch shows while you work? If so, what's your favourite?
18. YES the ones devoloped the most are Pokemelody, a pokemon webcomic series that would eventually have a physical release, it's a long story split into 3 arcs and a few spin off series. Its hard to describe whats it about sense it's premise doesn't quite explain it all. But it has a very light hearted shojo art style with lots of wacky hair styles in the character designs, while the story is very fantasy and cartoony but the main themes of the story are a big drive in how I've developed everything. There's also a magical girl story with a pastel goth aesthetic that I think would be best displayed animated, its a lot less developed than poke melody tho. Like most artists I have A lot more story ideas and video game ideas but poke melody is my main one
22. Difficult to say sense I draw all throughout my day, but I'd probably say late afternoon? Sense in the evening is when I tend to switch to reading fanfic and watching anime and that stuff~ some weeks or days depending on what my schedule is like ill draw more or less, but generally speaking I wouldn't say there's a "prime time" sense its sorta just whenever I feel like it?
23. I listen to youtube videos! Admittly i often just rewatch Danny Gonzalez, Kurtis conner, drew Gooden, and Jarvis Johnson. like to the point that I might be able to quote entire videos at this point njdbajfs. Thats my go to background noise for if I'm drawing something that requires more focus (like a character design, or trying a new shading style) But I mostly listen to video essays and like, movie reviews and I guess mini documentaries is what you'd call them?, some of my favorites are, Sarah z, izzzyzzz, saberspark, professor viral, kuncan dastner, Daryl talks games, kylie, Thomas games docs and strange aeons. Pretty much anything relating to media analysis, Fandom culture, and internet rabbit holes.
Sometimes ill find myself binge watching retrogamingnow's minecrfat creepypastas mjshfjd i also like iceberg videos sense they tend to be long, long videos or binging a channel is preferred sense I dont have to switch tabs but I also have an unholy amount of youtube tabs open to go to.

introducing u to my fav commentary youtubers and why they are worth 100% of ur time:
MertKayKay: OMG MY ABSOLUTE FAV. she analyzes video games, she's very funny and quickwitted, and there's never a dull moment when you're watching her :) i enjoy the way she picks apart games that she loves, and also ones she dislikes (she always remains respectful whilst giving insight into why she dislikes certain games, idk how to describe it but she's so amazing)
fav video of theirs: trapped in a hell that we made (soma)
Worm Girl: discusses indie video games (such as her awesome video on fear and hunger!!). my friend recommended her to me and i could not be more grateful.
wiredusagi: discusses video games and the themes in them, right now they only have 3 videos up (two of them being my favourites, they are apart of the "comfort in horror" series they've got going on). i found the Being Alone video very interesting, they're very well spoken.
tamgomushi: I ADORE THEM SO MUCH. i can't count how many times i've rewatched their silent hill 3 video on exploring womanhood in horror. they are so smart and i learn so much when i watch their videos, they open me up to new things i would've never thought about before.
fav video: (obvi) Silent Hill 3: Exploring Womanhood through Horror
Dev Limes: !!!! She analyzes music and trends (that relate to the music industry and artists and such), also a member of the band Queef Jerky (yes silly name but her vocals go crazy hard). i love the way she just talks about what's she's passionate about and interested in. if she had a podcast i'd be her number one listener fr.
fav video: the most polarizing song on tiktok
eurothug4000: u can probably see a theme here, i love watching videos exploring horror in video games (and like the thought process that could've gone behind the creation of them, exploring themes within the video games, how it affected them, etc). they give new refreshing takes on games such as Silent Hill, and they're sooooo interesting to listen to.
fav video: How Shattered Memories Changed Silent Hill
please go check them out they're super awesome👍👍👍👍 (i also love nakey jakey, joseph anderson, and strange aeons, but they're popular so i didn't include them) :)))

I liked the strange aeons video. She doesn't bash people, but she also has her criticisms of mogai, which i think are worth listening to.
She is cool with neo/microlabels (she liked a comment in support of them last i checked !)
She goes over the backlash against mogai back in the day, which can be triggering. She does introduce that section of the video, so i think it's possible to skip it if you don't want to watch it.
Overall, i would recommend it. It had a very positive comment section when i watched it earlier!
oh goodness thank you! I may have to skip that part, yes. but yay! I think I may watch that today then!!!

My #1 post of 2022
As someone who has been following ContraPoints for a while, The Hunger is by far my favorite video of hers.
Last time she made me cry this hard was in Shame and I can really see her old style more on this one than ever before.
I’m sure the comparison has been made already, but not since Gender Dysphoria have I ever felt such brilliance and vulnerability shown through symbolism on scale like this.
I just hope she’s doing okay.
