Tekken 8 leaks and new trailer
Theres so much cool stuff going on in both the full roster leak and the new trailer!
The Bad: My main didnt make the cut D:
I kinda expected this, Lucky Chloe is a very hated character.
No Capoiera fighters at all? Im sure Eddy or heck maybe even Chloe will be DLC (Yes I know Chloe isnt a Capoiera fighter but she still uses Dance moves to beat oponents lol)
The Good: MY FAVORITE TWINK LEO MADE THE CUT AND THEY ARE LOOKING BETTER THAN EVER
Tumblr media
Infact as always with Tekken 8, all characters look absolutely incredible
The new what I can only assume be Lobby system looks ok? I prefer just regular matchmaking like 7 so I hope thats still there but yeah! Looks interesting, sorta like Anime fighters like Blazblue or Guilty Gear
Overall Im excited for Tekken 8, I wanna get in on the groundfloor since I was so late getting into 7

RJ's Platinum Collection #10: Tekken 7
Tumblr media
Achieved on 9/6/2022 at 7:42 PM
I have always been a huge fan of the Tekken series. Something about how batshit insane this series is, and how it takes all of its crazy stuff completely seriously, appeals to me in a big way. Plus I love all of the characters, which is rare to say for a fighting game series. So I decided that Tekken 7 would make a good next platinum for me.
I can't even begin to explain Tekken's lore and story. You probably have to watch a YouTube video explaining it.
But anyway!
The first obvious step to get the Platinum is to first play through the game's story mode, including the Special Chapter you unlock after beating the regular story, which netted me ten trophies including some miscellaneous trophies I managed to get while playing the main story.
1/43: You Think You're Tougher Than Me? - Finished the Prologue of the main story.
2/43: Elegance At Its Purest - Triggered 10 screws.
3/43: Power Is Everything! - Dealt 10 power crushes.
4/43: Let's Do This! - Finished Chapter 1 of the main story.
5/43: There's Nowhere To Run. Give Up! - Dealt 10 homing attacks.
6/43: You Challenge Me?! - Finished Chapter 8 of the main story.
7/43: I Can't Accept This Fate - Finished Chapter 13 of the main story.
8/43: It's Time For You To Meet Your End! - Watched the Epilogue of the main story.
9/43: It's Just Business - Obtained a total of over 5,000,000 gold.
10/43: Master Of Iron Fist - Finished the Special Chapter of the Main Story.
Side note, the Special Chapter is extremely hard. It took me quite a bit of time to beat, so be warned.
Next up I decided to tackle the Character Episodes. These are short, one-fight mini stories, one for each of the game's roster of fighters. You only need to beat 10 of these Character Episodes to get the trophies, but I played all of them anyway just for fun.
11/43: I Demand To Know The Truth! - Finished three Character Episodes.
12/43: Lightning Of Fate - Finished 10 Character Episodes.
After doing this, I decided to play the game's Arcade Mode with several of my favorite characters for awhile. I managed to get a few more trophies while playing Arcade Mode, including the ones for beating Devil Kazumi and Akuma (yes, Akuma from Street Fighter is in this game) as the final boss of Arcade Mode.
13/43: You Fought Well - Achieved a great victory.
14/43: Fear My Wrath - Beat Devil Kazumi in an Arcade Battle or a Special Match in Treasure Battle.
15/43: Crushing Impact! - Performed a balcony-breaking move.
16/43: Don't Take It Personally - Achieved a perfect victory.
17/43: The Prosperous Inevitably Decline - Beat Akuma in an Arcade Battle or a Special Match in Treasure Battle.
From this point on I got a few trophies specifically using YouTube video guides to get them, because I wasn't sure how I would get them naturally. However, I also got more trophies that were natural by continuing to have fun in Arcade Mode and Treasure Battle.
18/43: Please Don't Tell My Father - Reached the deepest part of the Jungle Outpost stage.
19/43: Anger Of The Beast - Dealt an overall total of 1,000 damage while in Rage Mode.
20/43: I'll Kick Your Butt To Hell And Back! - Dealt 70+ damage in an air combo.
21/43: Instant Annihilation - Won three times consecutively in Treasure Battle.
22/43: Destructive Drive - Performed a floor-breaking move.
23/43: Stun Gun! - Snatched victory from the jaws of defeat 5 times with a Rage Art.
24/43: Going Somewhere? - Reached the bottom floor of the Forgotten Realm stage.
25/43: Just Relax, You Can Do It - Perform three 10-hit combos.
At this point I decided I would tackle Treasure Battle head-on. Treasure Battle is a special mode where you pick one character and play through an unending series of fights against other characters in order to win prizes in Treasure Boxes, with your character leveling up with each victory, with your opponents also getting stronger and stronger. I needed to keep going through Treasure Battle with my chosen (and favorite) character Lili until I got Lili all the way up to the rank of Warrior, and gotten at least fifty prizes from my battles. It took several hours of play, but I managed to level up Lili and become an excellent fighter.
26/43: This Should Be Fun - Got promoted to 1st Dan.
27/43: We Settle This Now! - Dealt 20 Rage Arts.
28/43: Cool! - Obtained 20 treasure boxes.
29/43: Overdrive! - Dealt 10 Rage Drives.
30/43: Sturdy And Indestructible - Blocked 5 Rage Arts.
31/43: Your Technique Is Impressive - Got promoted to Initiate.
32/43: Excellent - Obtained a total of over 10,000,000 gold.
33/43: Roar! (Nice Moves!) - Get promoted to Brawler.
34/43: Wow, I'm Pretty Strong! - Won three special matches in Treasure Battle.
35/43: I've Finally Found You - Obtained 50 treasure boxes.
36/43: Don't Hold Anything Back - Defeated 20 opponents of a higher rank.
37/43: Hot-Blooded Fighter - Got promoted to Warrior.
Next up were the trophies I was dreading....ONLINE BATTLES.
I like Tekken but I am not anywhere near good enough at the game to be a threat in Online. I'm basically a button masher. I only needed to fight in at least 10 games overall, but also while winning a ranked match, a player match, and a battle in a tournament. This took me an embarrassing amount of time. In fact, I only managed to get one of those wins because I sent my opponent a chat basically begging them to let me win for the trophy, and they were nice enough to agree.
Thank you internet stranger, you were very nice.
Anyway, I did eventually get all of the online trophies, and I promptly never touched that mode again.
38/43: Yeah! I Did It! - Won a ranked match online.
39/43: Not Bad - Won a player match online.
40/43: Okay! I'm Ready! - Won a battle in an online tournament.
41/43: Come And Get Some, I Dare You! - Fought 10 online battles.
And now I only had one more trophy to get, but it was the one I really wished I didn't have to. Basically, I needed to go into Practice Mode and use my character to beat up the other character until I had gotten 50,000 damage. This took me less than an hour but it was very boring. However, I got it, and then the much more satisfying platinum trophy!
42/43: No Pain, No Gain - Dealt 50,000 damage in Practice Mode.
43/43: I'll Get Everything Back! - Acquired all the trophies.
Tekken is one of the most fun fighting game franchises I've played. I definitely think everyone should play it. It may seem daunting, but Tekken is also very easy to platinum compared to games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter.
Rating: 10/10

The beginning of this year I did a joke poll for which nonplayable character you'd like to see playable in the roster. This is gonna be a serious poll (yes even if some options are cursed or dead - characters have came back from the dead before so what the hell!). The ultimate...

I got all the new spirits and... I know this is old news and all but... I can't thank Sakurai enough for what he has done with this game and with the spirits. I understand the people who miss the trophies, they were really cool.
But the sheer amount of characters you can actually put into the game by using existing art and all the lovely references that the developers put into the spirit battles are so much cooler than what the trophy and the stickers were. Okay, trophies have nice descriptions which makes them more useful for people that are unfamiliar with the characters. But for people that are familiar with the characters, nothing beats KNOWING why the Aerith spirit battle is at the Fountain of Dreams and Cloud is trying to protect her. Nothing beats knowing why the Cait Sith spirit battle has 3 Mr. Game & Watch spamming Judge. Even if you got the plot of FFVII spoiled you won't get the reference. You need to play the actual game.
The part that really warms my heart is that Sakurai didn't need to try so hard to make bonus battles that are so perfect for the characters. He didn't need to constantly update the game with more spirits and he certainly didn't need to give us so many. Most people would have been 100% satisfied with just the playable characters from 7. But no, he gave us Shiva, who was sadly missing from the game despite being the most popular summon (or is Bahamut more popular?). He gave us the Turks. They have many fans, sure but not enough to get in Kingdom Hearts or Dissidia apperently, so nobody would have been surprised if they were skipped.
Elena (or Irina if you are japanese) is one of my favorite characters ever, and my first videogame crush. And she is now in the best game of all time. This really feels like a Chistmas gift from Sakurai. I am so happy. I was so happy when Shantae was a spirit at launch. I was so happy when Igor from Persona was added as a spirit, when Leon S. Kennedy from RE4 was added (and his Spirit Battle references that game perfectly too), when Sans got a costume, when music from the Metal Slug games got in with Terry.
I understand that Smash hype and discourse will always be about playable characters, but sometimes we all really need to take a minute to appreciate all that Smash Ultimate is OUTSIDE its massive roster. I am mostly a fan of minor characters who have no realistic chance of getting in the game at all, which is why I mostly give support to characters who wouldn't make me cry tears of joy, or would become my mains, but have a good chance of bringing with them spirits (or background characters if Sakurai pulls another Terry) that would make me so happy.
Ryu Hayabusa, a pretty boring ninja if you ask me, but one of the most important recurring characters in Ninja Gaiden is my beloved Ayane who would get in as a spirit, so come on Ryu supporters WE GOTTA MAKE HIM HAPPEN!
Someone from Soul Calibur? Sure, anything to get a Voldo spirit.
Someone from Tekken? I love Xiaoyu, King, Yoshimitsu, Nina, Anna and Paul so fricking much, and at least a couple of them are guaranteed if we get Jin or something.
Crash Bandicoot? YES! A Cortex spirit would be the best.
Sora? Only worth it for the Roxas spirit.
Byleth? Not my first choice, but I don't get all the people who are mad because they wanted the house leaders. I'm too busy smiling because the house leaders got wondeful spirit battles (and also Seteth for some reason).
When smash speculation and wishlists are involed, you guys seem to care about who gets in as a playable character, the bonus stuff you don't care about (unless it's missing, like FF music until now. Then you suddenly care). I care about the bonus content and who gets in as playable matters just a little bit to me. Which makes me weird. But to me the spirits are what makes Smash Ultimate the best smash game and I'm willing to die on this hill.
Imagine being a Mallow fan. Barely anyone discusses or even remembers him. Everyone goes nuts about that stupid puppet who is literally just as important as your Mallow but he gets to appear in cameos and stuff, while Mallow is left in the dust. Then Ultimate comes out and Mallow is a spirit. It's not a Geno & Mallow spirit, Geno doesn't get to intrude in anyway. It's just a simple spirit battle who references your favorite game. A little detail. But you have never felt so seen and cared for as a Mallow fan.
The devil is in the details, and the masterpiece is in the details too. If Smash Ultimate had exactly the same roster, with the same gameplay, but no care and love for details in the background, in the victory screens and its approach to single player content was more on the level of Smash 4...
It would still be an 8.5/10 game at minimum, but it would also be so much worse at what its trying to do.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's been two years and Smash Ultimate is still such a beautiful game that keeps being given attention and players keep going back to it not just because it's a really pretty games with good gameplay mechanics. But because every inch of it has been crafted with love, care and attention to details.
You can have the best gameplay, and the nicest graphics but if you don't care to put all your passion into polishing your game as much as possible nobody will care (coughcoughMarvelVsCapcomInfinitecough)

Ultimate^2
Super Smash Brothers Ultimate has finally unveiled its final DLC character, with reactions ranging fully across the spectrum. Hot takes abound.
I mean, statistically, just about every possible opinion is going to be represented. There were at least 500,000 people watching the reveal stream, and that’s not including those viewing through restreams. That’s insane for a trailer of any kind, let alone for a console-exclusive video game DLC.
Now that it’s been like… a day and a bit, I think most of the spciest takes have probably been made, which is the perfect time for me to chip in with my own milder opinion. More of a butter chicken, really.
(no images in this one i’m lazy tonight)
I figure I’m this late already, might as well drop some notes on the other ones first.
Piranha Plant was kind of the definition of an unexpected pick. Not only was it from an already well-represented franchise, being fucking Mario, it’s also just…not a character. As such it makes an odd choice for a DLC fighter…except for the part where it was free. If you owned the game in its first month. And frankly, I don’t think people would have been happy if it wasn’t. As it is, though, it’s a perfectly fine character- surprisingly cute, actually.
I’m unsurprised about Joker’s inclusion. With how huge Persona 5 became in both Japan and the west, capitalizing on it to make a shitload of money makes perfect sense. The character plays well enough, though the meter gimmick was kind of a daunting sign of things to come. All that in mind, though, the most surprising thing about Joker being in the game is that they still haven’t put P5 on the Switch. Atlus please.
Hero and Banjo/Kazooie were announced on the same night, and I distinctly recall someone saying that this was one for the Japanese audience and one for the Americans. I mean, I’ve never played Dragon Quest, so I guess I fell into the latter? Both series have a long, well-regarded pedigree (Banjo’s lack of recent offerings notwithstanding), so both arguably deserve their respective positions. Hero is the much more notable character gameplaywise, though, with the incredibly complex mana and spellcasting mechanics. Complaints about RNG in Smash aren’t completely unfounded- though it has existed in the past in the form of, say, Luigi’s misfiring side-B- but I know a lot of people think Hero took it too far. If I’m honest, though, the weirdest thing is just having Akira Toriyama-ass 3D models in the game. Banjo’s gameplay is…awkward. The kit is kind of a mess, but at least the gimmicks weren’t going too hard, you know?
Next was Terry, perhaps the most obscure character on the entire list in 2021. I actually really like Terry in this game- while he’s still trying to emulate a similar feel to Ryu/Ken, the difference feels more natural, if that makes sense. Maybe it’s because I’ve never really devoted significant time to them, but Terry’s kit feels easier to work within than the Shotos when going between characters.
Finally for the first Pass, we had Byleth. I think it’s for the best that they announced the second Fighter’s Pass before this released, because if both 4 and Ultimate had ended their run on Fire Emblem DLCs then people would have been pissed. I mean, people were already pissed, but like…moreso. As someone who has played Three Houses, I do think the game is worth celebrating, but having yet another Fire Emblem Protagonist (read: basically a blank slate) in the game over all the substantially more interesting characters 3H has to offer is just really frustrating. Also the final smash looks like dogshit, like FE3H has overall worse animations than Smash for obvious reasons but I’m pretty sure this attack looked better the first time around.
FP2 opened with Min Min, which brings ARMS to the table. ARMS. The only first-party fighting game Nintendo has outside of Smash, so it looks a bit less weird next to everything else but…come on, man. I think this was the most confusing pick of all of them- the game came out in 2017, and having Min Min in Smash would serve as promotion for a sequel…which hasn’t been announced. There was a graphic novel in the works, but it was cancelled earlier this year. Oops? At least the stage was fun.
As much as playing them is awkward and complex, the Minecraft addition was fitting. Only the best-selling game around. I think people weren’t sure if Microsoft would go for it, but they let us have Banjo, so sure. I’m mostly just annoyed that they couldn’t get any of the songs from the actual game in there- like, you got one in from the fucking mobile game, but you couldn’t just get C418 on the phone?
Sephiroth is definitely one of the hype-ier releases from this pass. The character is iconic, as is his theme and his home game. I’ve never played any Final Fantasy game, but I can still respect the name. Once I remember how to spell it. The whole bossfight aspect to his release was also quite cool, while it lasted.
On the other hand, I have no love for Pyra nor Mythra. There’s so much wrong with these ones, frankly. They’re another swordy character, immediately following Sephiroth too, and they go back on Smash’s very deliberate decision to split characters like Zelda/Sheik and Samus/ZSS up (Yes I know Pokemon Trainer does the same thing but I have a lot more leniency for them). Add in their being from a JRPG much less well-known or remembered than the previous couple characters and the designs being…questionable, I have a big issue with the whole thing. This was also around when I kinda stopped playing the game in general, and they definitely didn’t help pull me back in.
Kazuya might have, though. With the exception of him and Sephiroth, all the characters from the Fighter’s Passes were pretty much protagonist-types, but this motherfucker pulses with the essence of bad guy. What I’m saying is that he’s fucking cool, and while he’s ludicrously complex, that makes perfect sense since…I mean just look at the combo lists from Tekken 7. His inclusion also kinda rounds out the list of biggest fighting game franchises out there being rep’d in the game, though I imagine now I’m going to have stans from Mortal Kombat or whatever on my back. They’re not going to put a fatality-capable character in Smash, guys!
Finally, this rounds us around to the original point of this article. Let’s talk about Sora. And by that I mean…I don’t really have a huge amount to say about him. Kingdom Hearts is a franchise that completely passed me by growing up, and I don’t think I have the time or energy to devote to it now. I’m sure it’s good, people seemed really excited for him to be in the game so they have to have gotten that love from somewhere, but I don’t share that feeling.
That’s not to say that I don’t think he deserves a slot. The idea of “deserving a slot” in Smash Bros is kind of an odd concept, even though it’s come up a lot so far this post. But a slot in this roster isn’t just a place in a popular fighting game, because at this point, Smash is kind of a museum of (mostly Nintendo) games- and so having representation is a forever acknowledgment that the franchise is, or has been, an icon to so many. Kingdom Hearts, to my knowledge, has 100% earned that position, and so Sora getting to be playable here makes perfect sense. He wasn’t my pick (Touhou representation never I guess), but I’m happy for those who wanted him.
As far as the actual gameplay looks, he reads like a character that kept in mind what people didn’t like about Hero when he released. It’s another sword-based character, which I think at this point speaks more about the demographic of video game characters than it does about Smash. But I appreciate that the Magic Bullshit is toned down, and that it’s also his only real gimmick (The 3-hit combo feature is A Thing, but other characters e.g. Bayonetta have already done that, so whatever). His recovery potential looks patently absurd- like he just gets Pikachu/Pichu’s Up-B as a Side-B that can also be chained with his actual Up-B? This guy better be light as hell or he’s going to be super hard to take out. I dunno, I think he looks solidly fun enough- more dynamic and aerial than the other swordfighters, at least- and that’s good enough for me.
And I guess that marks the end of Smash Ultimate. Not with a bang, but with a key…dude. It’s been a very solid run, the game managing to keep itself fresh across several years of development, even as other games have risen and fallen. Smash is kind of forever at this point, I think, though the finality of Ultimate’s ultimate character implies that this particular iteration may be coming to its end. And seeing as it is always one Smash per console, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Switch itself was nearing its endgame as well.
Okay but also it’s pretty funny how they heavily censored everything Disney out of Sora’s DLC except for that little Mickey charm on the trailer, like how much must that one shot have cost them, was it even remotely worth it, I don’t know but I kinda want to

Tekken 4:
Genre: Fighting;
Console: Playstation 2;
Year: 2001;
Story: "Two years after the King of Iron Fist Tournament 3, Heihachi Mishima and his scientists have captured samples of Ogre's blood and tissue to splice with Heihachi's genome, in order to make him immortal. The experiment fails, since Heihachi lacks the necessary Devil gene. Heihachi searches for his grandson, Jin Kazama, who does possess the Devil gene but he has been missing since the previous tournament. Meanwhile, Heihachi learns that the body of his son, Kazuya, who also had the Devil gene and whom Heihachi killed by throwing into a volcano twenty years ago, is stored in the labs of the G Corporation. Heihachi sends his Tekken Forces to raid G Corporation and retrieve Kazuya's remains, but the mission fails when the Tekken Force is wiped out by none other than Kazuya himself, who has been revived by G Corporation. Meanwhile, Jin is unable to be located. Unknown to Heihachi, Jin has been in a self-imposed training exile in Brisbane, to unlearn the Mishima karate style and master traditional karate, loathing anything to do with his bloodline since Heihachi's betrayal. In an attempt to lure Kazuya and Jin out, Heihachi announces the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4, with the ownership of the Mishima Zaibatsu being the top prize, believing both his son and grandson will come to him for their own vengeful reasons. (Information from the wikipedia page)."
Gameplay: I'm back with some more Tekken reviews. Cannonically, this game is the sequel to Tekken 3 (but it was released after Tekken Tag Tournament). Tekken 4 had a pretty big change, compared to the previous games. First of all, it introduced to us stages with walls (my favourite type of stages). The stages are so entertaing and fun. It feels like you're playing a Dead or Alive game, which is such a big yes. There's 6 new characters in this game: Christie, Steve, Marduk, Miharu, Violet & Combot. It's unfortunate that a lot of characters from the previous game didn't returned, but I like the changes they did with the roster in this game. Tekken 7 is following the same steps as Tekken 4, by reducing the roster as well. In terms of modes, Tekken Force is back, and it's a lot better than before. This version of the Tekken Force is sooooo challenging, but highly entertaining. Also, there's a new mode in this game called Training mode. In here, you have to input all the moves that will appear in the screen. It's a fun challenge, if you want to get better with any character. In terms of unlockables, in this game you have to unlock characters. I'm still surprised that Jin, Nina & Lei had to be unlocked, but it was an interesting change. It allowed the game to focus on the newer characters. Also, if you beat Tekken Force, you will unlock a new stage.
Graphics: this is a gorgeous game. I really like the amount of details in each stage.
Soundtrack: omg, my favorite soundtrack from any Tekken game. Too addicting and incredible <3
Final Thoughts: I love this game so much. I feel like this game is the black sheep of the Tekken series. I haven't seen much love for it, which I think it's very unfortunate. I think this game has a lot of cool ideas and concepts. Storywise, I think it's so interesting and a bit spooky at times. I know that many people weren't happy that Kazuya returned, because he was meant to be dead, but I don't care for the Mishimas so whatever. Also, in this game, Eddie was "replaced" by Christie Montero. Honestly, I feel like Tekken 7 is trying to be like Tekken 4 in some ways: both games reduced the roster, every character got new main outfits, etc... I had soooo much fun with this game. It's a nice roster, I adore the stages & music. The story is cool and I like the new modes. Overall, I will proudly give it a 10 out of 10.

Show of the Week - Tekken Tag Tournament 2
First Show of the Week giffed and transcribed! Transcript is under the cut, please tell me if there are any mistake so I can edit them!
[sounds from the game Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Andy)
Hello everyone and welcome to show of the week. Mike, what have you been up to this week of which this is the show of.
 (Mike)
I’ve been on the Borderlands 2 skill tree calculators on borderlands2.com working out how I’m gonna level up my character.
 (Andy)
You’ve seemed to have put all your points into something called gun lust.
 (Mike)
…Yeah it was filled out like that when I got here.
 (Andy)
What’s in this folder?
 (Mike)
Umm… give me my laptop back.
 (Andy)
With… pleasure. So, this week we’re all about Tekken Tag Tournament 2 which is out today if you’re watching on Friday.
 (Mike)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 or TTT2 as it’s known in some places is the… [interrupted]
 (Overhead Voice)
Get ready for the next battle!
 (Andy)
What was that?
 (Mike)
Uh it said get ready for the next battle… Um but obviously, I’m already ready for the next battle.
 (Andy)
I’m not ready for the next battle. These aren’t my battle shoes.
 (Mike)
I’ll tell you what, I’ll stall for time. Uh, you have exactly as long as it takes me to read out the entire character roster of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 in alphabetical order. Go.
 (Andy)
Got it.
 (Mike)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is the eight game in the venerable Tekken fighting games series and its accumulated a lot of great characters as its gone along. As a result, the character roster for Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is as long and bonkers as an extended remix of the Dizzee Rascal song “Bonkers”. So here they are in alphabetical order: Alex, Alisa Bosconovitch, Anna Williams, Armor King II… [fades out]
[sounds from the game Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Mike)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has a lot more going for it then a roster of 50 plus fighters. In it you select two characters then knock seven bells out of your opponent’s tag team with whatever flashy combo strings, throws, juggles and tag combos as you can muster. Maybe you’d gathered as much from the name. If you have eyes for only one fighter, by the way, you don’t have to tag in a second. You can pick just your favourite and then go up against your adversary’s team with the health of two fighters.
[sounds from the game Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Mike)
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 plays a lot like Tekken 6. It holds onto that game’s bound mechanic, for instance, with which you can smack a fool into the floor and bounce him as part of your juggle. But there’s plenty that’s new as well including fight lab, a tutorial suite with a generous helping of fun. It stars Combot, a cyborg with a bucket for a head and features mini-game style matches in which you dodge sushi and pizza pelted at you by a tubby man in a yellow jumpsuit, for instance.
 [Snoop Dogg rapping in background]
 (Mike)
Also, in Tekken’s time honoured tradition of being barmy, rapper Snoop Dogg appears as a pre-order special only guest in his own gaudy stage, sat on a throne, overseeing the battle like an emperor at the Roman Coliseum. Think about that, that’s mad, isn’t it? It’s as mad as if Snoop Dogg decided he was gonna stop being a dog and start being a lion. And also make reggae music.
 (Snoop Dogg)
It’s not that I wanna become Snoop Dogg on a reggae track. I wanna bury Snoop Dogg and become Snoop Lion.
 (Mike)
Oh… right. And it’s exactly for madness like this that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 is our game of the week.
 (Mike continuing the list)
Lars Alexandersson, Lee Chaolan, Lei Wulong, Leo Kliesen, Lili de Rochefort… [interrupted]
 (Andy)
Right, back, ready.
 (Mike)
Oh, brilliant, made it.
 (Overhead Voice)
Get ready for the next… [interrupted]
 (Mike)
Yeah, we get it buddy.
 (Andy)
Wait, so we have to battle each other.
 (Mike)
Yeah, apparently so. And in the style of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 as well.
 (Andy)
Why? What’s in it for us?
 (Mike)
Apparently, it’s for the entertainment of Namco Bandai Limited.
 (Andy)
Oh, okay. That’s fair enough.
 [Mike yells]
[fighting noises from Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Jane)
Hey, um, you’re making a racket in there. What’s going on?
 (Andy)
Uh… we’re fighting each other in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 style. Mike just knocked me through here into the next stage of our multi-tiered battle arena.
 (Jane)
Okay, right. And why?
 (Andy)
Uh, a disembodied voice told us to.
 (Jane)
Andy, if a disembodied voice told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?
 (Andy)
No…
 (Overhead Voice)
Jump off that bridge!
 (Andy)
Are you sure? It’s really high up.
 (Overhead Voice)
I don’t have all day!
 (Andy)
Alright.
 (Andy)
So, what have you been up to this week?
 (Jane)
Oo, I found a DDR machine on the Boardwalk map in Modern Warfare 3.
 (Andy)
Ah cool. Is it playable?
 (Jane)
Yes…
 [multiple gun shots]
 (Andy)
I can get thrown out of the arcade for that.
 [Jane makes agreeing noises]
 (Jane)
Anyway, I’m done here. Do you wanna tag me in?
 (Andy)
Yeah, sure.
 [hand slapping noise]
 (Overhead Voice)
Round 2, fight!
 (Andy)
So, while I’ve got you guys here, I want to talk to you about Tekken characters. Now as Mike already covered, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has approximately 16 thousand playable characters but that’s not even the end of it.
[fighting noises from Tekken Tag Tournament 2]
 (Andy)
We need to get this place soundproofed. Yes, according to our sister site BG 24/7, industrious people on the internet, intent on squeezing secrets out of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 to create delicious Tekken secret juice, have discovered 6 additional characters on the disc. First up is Thin Bob. As you may be aware, Bob is a pretty hefty guy, but his Tekken 6 ending shows him losing a load of weight for no reason. Now you can play as Bob’s slimmed down alter ego. Well, hello.
[frustrated noises from the character “Thin Bob”]
 (Andy)
Now according to my Tekken research this is Sebastian, Lili’s frail and elderly butler who will presumably polish his opponents to death in an exciting first for fighting games. The next character found on the disc is Miharu Hirano, a character who was originally a palette swap or alternate colour version of Ling Xiaoyu in Tekken 4. She’s a high school girl so her character portrait is her in a tiny bikini, obviously… Here we have series’ staple Violet also known as Lee Chaolan in the world’s most unconvincing disguise of a wig and some sunglasses. Here’s a quick test. Here’s a picture of Jane. Now see if you identify this person on screen right now. Well done, you’re smarter than everyone in the Tekken universe. Next up in this roster of terrifying and physically imposing characters is a 96-year-old scientist, Dr Bosconovitch. He created Roger and Alex as well as the prototype Jack unit so maybe he knows something about fighting though, right, maybe, ah whatever. Finally, we have a nude woman covered in purple goo. Usually you have to pay a lot of money to see that. She’s called Unknown and you might remember her from the original Tekken Tag Tournament. Oh, she also has a terrifying wolf spirit growing out of her back for details. So these characters are apparently already on the disc but unlike Capcom’s model of charging for this content, which understandably gets gamers pretty annoyed, these characters will most likely be free if series’ director Katsuhiro Harada is to believed as he’s come out publicly against such practices in the past. And no one wants to argue with that guy, believe me.
 (Mike)
Well it seems we’re pretty evenly matched.
 (Jane)
Yeah, I know right. I am exhausted.
 (Mike)
Just as well as it’s time for the comments. This is the bit where we share your comments across the site, YouTube, Facebook, twitter, this rock with a note wrapped round it that someone threw through the window. The answer being yes we do like our legs not broken thank you very much.
 (Jane)
Right and remember we read all the things you write in all of those places so please do keep it coming. Over on twitter Neil Allchin tweets at us about Joe Danger 2: The Movie which is out on XPLA today and he writes “The 1st game was so much fun, such a happy game, my 5-year-old adores it!”.
 (Mike)
And somehow his scores are better than mine. Anyway, Sam Williamson comments on the site itself “I’m concerned this game might be a bit busy visually. The original is pretty much the best modern Sonic game, which is somewhat ironic as it looks like The Movie could be following in that series’ missteps of erring towards spectacle over readability.”.
 (Jane)
It’s not a problem we’ve had while playing but there is a free demo if you want to try before you buy.
 (Mike)
How? He’s like, he’s 5 years old.
 (Jane)
Let it go. Finally, terrifyingly titled YouTube commenter the brutality gaming explains why Counter Strike GO is easier on the console than on PC. He says “The reason why it’s easier on consoles is that less console players have played counterstrike (on any platform) so won’t be familiar with the way the game plays and the maps layouts.”.
 (Mike)
Hmm, if you’re playing CS:GO at the moment, let us know in the comments in a totally unscientific survey. Have you already played Counterstrike on PC or is this your first time striking counters?
 (Jane)
I struck the counter once. I was dissatisfied with the service in a Nando’s.
 (Mike)
Alright, I’m tagging out now. You can tell it to my partner.
 (Jane)
Okay well that’s it for Show of the Week. We’re off to further hone our TTT2 skills, thanks for joining us and we’ll see you… [fades off] I thought you were sending on your partner.
 (Mike)
I’m a palette swap.
 (Jane)
Argh that is so lazy. Go. Yeah, you better run.
 [Mike sits back down]
 (Jane)
That’s just you in a green wig now.
 (Mike)
No! I’m an entirely original character! I’m Verdant, mysterious child of nature… ah

Icewave’s little list of games he’s excited for in 2017.
I like making some lists now and then and decided to make one regarding games I’m excited for this year, so far.
Tumblr media
It has been... quite awhile for this game, but 2017 seems to be the year where Tekken 7 will finally hit the PS4/Xbone, and for the first time in the series, PC. Been a Tekken fan since I was a little tiny kid who didn’t know what half the buttons on a controller did, so I’m happy the next big entry will arrive, hopefully early 2017 and not late 2017. (Also, Akuma. As a guest character. Kind of awesome.)
Tumblr media
I am by no means a Zelda fanatic. I know some super basic lore, but I thoroughly enjoyed each game I’ve played of this franchise so far, so I’m definitely excited for Breath Of The Wild. Looks gorgeous, and I love that it seems so open ended. Now the question is, if I’m just gonna settle for the Wii U version or be one of those that’ll get a Switch day 1 for this game...
Tumblr media
A Sonic game!? What are you, a fraud!? (That’s actually very possible, if you heard some of the games I legitimately like.)
Yes, a Sonic game has appeared on this list. This is something I did not expect Sega to ever try again, especially after Sonic 4 only got two of it’s four planned episodes and wasn’t received very well, but here we are. Most interesting thing to note is that it’s very passionate fans that are behind this game, with some support from Sega, so I have a very good feeling about this.
Tumblr media
IT’S MAHVEL BABY!!!
Listen. Marvel Vs Capcom is ridiculous. It’s dumb. It’s broken. It’s unbalanced. I love every minute of it. This release sounds to be fully packed, and the roster so far has surprised me a little bit, so I look forward to seeing who Marvel and Capcom each pick to represent their sides. (Mainly Capcom cause I’m biased.)
Honorable mentions: Sonic Project 2017. (I know... nothing about this other than Modern and Classic Sonic teaming up again.) Hideaki Itsuno’s new project. Loved Devil May Cry 3, 4 and Dragon’s Dogma, so I am immediately excited for what this man has in store. Resident Evil 2 Remake. I just hope this’ll be released this year. Resident Evil 7 isn’t doing anything for me, so I’m just excited for this one instead.

This Weekend in Esports: What to Watch from March 30-April 1
Welcome to This Weekend in Esports, a brief overview of what to watch in the world of competitive gaming for the coming weekend.
For this weekend, the fighting game world heads to Northern California, while Hearthstone takes a break from Standard play to remember all the blasts from the past.
Norcal Regionals 2018
Game: Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, Tekken 7 When: March 31-April 1 Where to watch: Twitch.tv/CapcomFighters, Twitch.tv/TeamSp00ky
The Capcom Pro Tour and Tekken World Tour hit their next stops this weekend, as the fighting game world heads to the Norcal Regionals. The west coast always brings its best for this event, welcoming in the top players in the world every year to present the best in fighting games.
Street Fighter's best will be in attendance and that includes Final Round 2018 winner Seonwoo "Infiltration" Lee, who looks to be back to where he was in 2016. The pools will be highly competitive, including a pool that includes Hyungsuk "Verloren" Kong, Naoki "moke" Nakayama, and Echo Fox's Victor "Punk" Woodley. Wait, did I say Echo Fox's Punk? That's right! Echo Fox scooped up Woodley earlier this week, as the rich get richer. Punk now joins an Echo Fox roster that includes Justin Wong, Yusuke Momochi, Dominique "SonicFox" McLean, and the man who beat him in the Evo Grand Finals, Hajime "Tokido" Taniguchi.
Meanwhile, Tekken's top players will converge at the Norcal Regionals, as well. But the big difference from Final Round is that defending champion Qudans is now in the house and ready to jump into the circuit proper. With no Bae "Knee" Jae Min and no Jinwoo "Saint" Choi present, this would be an ideal time for Hyunjin "JDCR" Kim to try and pull ahead of the pack in the early goings. But Qudans will look to prove that he's the world champion for a reason, while the rest of the Norcal Regionals field will also look to make some noise in the Tekken World Tour standings.
League of Legends - Spring Playoff Semifinals
Game: League of Legends When: March 31-April 1 Where to watch: Twitch.tv/RiotGames
Well, there it is! The NA LCS viewers we warned not to sleep on Clutch Gaming, but they did. And they shocked the NA LCS world last week when they knocked off Team SoloMid. It's going to take a lot for lightning to strike twice against a strong 100 Thieves squad. There's every possibility that Clutch goes in with a massive hangover, but if they continue to win their team fights, they can hang with that 100 Thieves team. This matchup still very much favors 100 Thieves, but the public is warned once again to underestimate Clutch Gaming at their own peril.
Meanwhile, Team Liquid cruised to the semifinals, knocking out Cloud9 in three games. But with Heo "Huni" Seung-hoon and Joshua "Dardoch" Hartnett continuing to play lights out, this is still Echo Fox's series to lose. There are few in the world better than Yiliang "Doublelift" Peng, but he'll have to play especially tough to lead Team Liquid past their biggest challenge to date.
Hearthstone Wild Open Finals
Game: Hearthstone When: March 31 Where to watch: Twitch.tv/PlayHearthstone
Forget what you know about the Hearthstone Standard format and its place in the esports space. We're in Wild now! The Hearthstone Wild Open is down to eight players, two from each region. One champion will be crowned this weekend and get to walk away with $25,000.
This isn't like the usual Standard format Hearthstone tournament with only a handful of viable decks. There are a multitude of all of Hearthstone's greatest hits on display here, including Aggro Shaman, Reno Warlock, Pirate Warrior (yes, even with the nerfed Patches), and even a Cubelock. Because even in a Wild tournament, there's no escaping the Cubelock.
Sit back, check out the decks, and enjoy Hearthstone as it used to be, because Wild is a totally different animal. The Wild Open wraps up on Saturday.
So what will you be watching this weekend? Join the conversation and let us know in the comments.

Blind DLC in the Modern Era of Gaming! (Rant)
As per usual in the modern era of gaming, season passes are announced before the street date release of big AAA production titles. In most cases you are told what will be the back bone of it's content, however in fighting games that's not always the case. When it comes to Season Passes with most other genres you could get new modes, stories, missions, cosmetic items, in game items, more customization options, the list is seemingly endless on the realm of possibilities. However when it comes to fighting games that simply is just not the case.
Take on the on the Horizon Dragonball FighterZ  title. Their season pass was just announced, set to come with 8 characters of which 0 have been announced whom they are. The full day 1 roster hasn't even been fully confirmed. However on faith alone they want to draw people in for 8 characters, a few stickers, & a couple of online avatars for a whopping $35. A season pass with little confirmation, costs over half the retail price for the full game! As eye popping & jaw dropping as that may be it's not uncommon as you'll see below.
One of the characters who is a main part of the story was withheld to be DLC at a later date in a pack costing $30.
Exhibit B:
As you can see Warner Bros & Netherrealm Studios' Injustice 2 had a $40 pack with 9 characters & 3 premiere skins.
Exhibit C:
TEKKEN 7's pack didn't even include one of the first DLC characters Eliza. Unspecified amount of characters. Lots of costumes & the Tekken Bowl mode which also was not specified at the time!
Asking for money up front with almost zero information given on its main properties. Usually just a crap shoot with most season passes. Also with last year's release of Capcom's Street Fighter V we saw how they released two season passes. Neither specifying in it's contents specifically on the character front. However all the characters can be purchased with in game currency in SFV. It's very grind intensive but it is doable.
So why does this happen?
Well the answer is two fold.
It occurs because at the end of the day a fighting game breaks down to our competition once the game hits the 6 month of release. Most games have modes, stories, missions, & gimmicky things for single players to have an offline experience. One filled with replayability, varied content, & things to do.
In fighting games no matter how you spin it. It's player 1 Vs player 2 trying to take each other's health pool down to 0. Netherrealm Studios tries to bring people in with the Multiverse mode which has hours of content for Unlockable ranging from gear to shaders to Unlockable moves. They've implimented guild bosses which are super buffed A.I. and if your guild can defeat it you'll all receive various rewards. A full fleged cinematic story mode also comes to play with solid writing and voice acting. However with that said. All the modes are comprised of the basic same gameplay. Something the casual market will be burned out on in 6 months. Netherrealm Studios definitely leads the pack on content with Tekken 7 & Guilty Gear XRD not far behind.
So how does this have any effect on DLC planning?
Now that we know that casuals need new things to keep them hyped for this genre. Having a systematic post release schedule of future can breathe new life into a game. The hope is to rekindle interest in some people's drive to play. Lots of players may put a game down then see the DLC pack has a character they love & they're back to the game in no time flat. DLC can also bring in second wave sales. Don't believe let's take a small gander at Twitter.
Usually companies tease a small portion of the greater whole of a Season Pass & that'll rope people in. Even if they don't care about 75% of the content they'll buy the whole package just to get that last 25% they have deemed vital. Which can go a long way in the grand scheme of things.
You said this was a two fold thing though?
Yes I did. The second wrinkle is the fact that Blind DLC is definitely a way to make people who otherwise wouldn't buy everything, buy it all. For example with injustice 2 there has been tons of complains about the fight pack characters. People alsaw the first pack feature Red Hood & Starfire. People sank their teeth into that ready for more. They thought after those two, they'd all be a smash hit. People expected Static, Raven, Beast boy, & Constantine. However not a single one of those has been announced. Actually so far only 4 out of the 7 confirmed characters are even from DC comics & it's rumored 5 out of the total 9 will be from the DCU. But that initial impulse buy off the blind pass definitely boosted some of the least popular characters downloads. Also helps companies since season passes are non-refundable.
Long gone are the days of a game releasing with oodles of content. It's pretty much normalized with the current generation of Gamers that post release content is a given. They see $20-$50 DLC & multiple season passes for one game as the industry standard! So they just accept it and as long as the season passes continue to sell not only themselves but the games as a whole, they will not stop making them.
Final Thoughts
Personally I'm not a fan of pre-release announcements of season passes. It seems grimey that a company is already planning to sell me more stuff after the game goes out, 6 months before it's even playable. On top of that you could drop money on the blind pass, only to be disappointed in the end. Also with some games like Guilty gear XRD, you could buy all the DLC for one version of the game one night, then wake up to an announcement of XRD Revalator 3 & have to spend another $15 to get that expansion!
None of this is alleviated when DLC characters can be $5 to $9 a pop out of pack. To where buying 4 characters individually is the same price as buying the whole pack. It's especially bad if a DLC character comes out with top tier status. Then you have to deal with the whole pay to win argument. While it's an invalid argument since fighting games are primarily matchup based anyway; the aforementioned casuals will see it that way. And developers know, perception is reality no matter how you slice it. It's a juggling act by developers, a rat race for consumers. A messy situation indeed.
