Being somebody who's somewhat into the elder scrolls series is funny because I've got hundreds of hours into the game, I'll hyperfixate on playing it, but I also will not turn down an opportunity to shit on the game(s).

• I want to preface this by saying art and musical preferences are subjective. Everything below is just my personal opinion and preferences.

• I also don't want anyone to confuse criticism with hating. I like Inon Zur but I have some thoughts on his musical involvement in TES 6.

I *really* hope that they get someone besides Inon Zur to conduct the OST for TES VI.

The Music is perhaps my favorite part of TES. There's been many times when I'm totally burned out or bored with the games, but I never grow tired of the music. For example I have fallen asleep to the Oblivion OST more times than I can remember and the Morrowind theme is my favorite piece of video game music of all time. (Inon Zur's theme for Fallout New Vegas is my second favorite!!!)

Hearing the Arena and Daggerfall themes on an old burned CD were actually my first exposure to TES in any direct form and were the impetus to my later interest in the series. The music of TES matters so deeply to me. I never want to feel the urge to avoid or feel disappointed by any of it. It would bum me TF out if I was disappointed by the music of TES 6.

For Inon Zur, I LOVE his work on the Fallout soundtracks, but I just do not think his style works for TES.

I really don't like his music in the teaser they used for the now (old) trailer for TESVI. I also don't particularly like Zur's work on the blades OST either. To be clear, his TES music so far is *fine* but its not excellent like the OSTs for Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim were. His TES music is..just fine..

Honestly there are parts of the Blade soundtrack that sound like unused tracks from Fallout (eg. "A worthy foe") Zur loves him some horns, large brass instruments, and drums and while those instruments are fine, an overuse of them just doesn't't work in TES.

His typical style is just too brassy and "hard" for TES IMO. Even when he's trying to be soft with his music it just sounds off. Almost looming and rough. TES is fantasy, it needs flutes, soft vocal harmonies, and strings. Even the parts of ths Blades OST with strings and harmonies sound weirdly harsh and coarse for what they're trying to do. His music has a "dark" tone to me, like everything is tinged in a looming danger. IDK how to describe it. There are also moments in the Blades OST where it feels like he's trying to imitate Jeremy Soule's style and it just falls flat.

I dont believe Zur operates with the necessary softness, warmth, and pulse lowering harmony required for a good TES soundtrack. Yes there are dungeon and combat themes in all the games, but the most beloved TES music is the themes and ambient tracks. Inon Zur's Fallout work is incredible but his style naturally meshes really well with the Fallout games. Don't get me wrong, he's a fantastic artist, but his forays into TES music have been unsatisfying to me personally and doesn't mesh with the series.

I want to be as clear as I can because im not trying to bash him. *Inon Zur is a really good musician and conductor* I just don't think his style works for TES.

I love most or Zur's work, but I hope they get someone with more fitting musical style to make the OST for TES VI.

Hi Steph, I was wondering if you have any favorite pieces from the BBC Sherlock OST. My favorites are Crates of Books and The East Wind. I love it when a piece is heavy with brass and percussios, accompanied by strings, aka the epic type, like those Star Trek OST :DDD. Percussios are a must, love them!

Yes, I actually REALLY love the Sherlock OST. I still listen to it when I I'm writing :)

I actually talked about this before on this post here, which links to my REALLY OLD Video Meta (yes, my stupid face on video talking about the Sherlock OST from S1 to S3, beware, I'm hideous and sound awful); I haven't really listened to S4 and TAB's as often, so I still really don't have an opinion on them, LOL.

Long-short though, S3's is my fave, I think, and "Lazarus" is my fave track, followed closely by "How It was Done" and "Vanishing Underground". I love them so much :p

And I LOVE instrumental stuff. My fave stuff to listen to while working is Video Game BG music. Skyrim's is still my fave, but I also recommend Detroit: Become Human's too. Both are VERY long and just feel SO epic while you're writing or drawing. So SO GOOD. Always Video Game or Movie Soundtracks!!! <3

Yes! Always :) Usually, some game OSTs (like 10+hrs Oblivion and Skyrim music compilations). And I have some themed playlists on my Spotify for specific topics, like these for Tavi and Karonis.

Sometimes I just listen to Skyrim ost for background music, other times it’s like Lindsey Stirling. Lyrics tend to screw with my focus on what I’m writing.

What’s your playlist for writing dramatic scenes? I know you said you listen mostly to tv/movie soundtracks and I’m so interested.

It changes week to week. It has to be familiar (so I don't subconsciously try to analyze the score to figure out the orchestration 😅) and it can't be too distracting. It needs to be something that, paradoxically, keeps my interest but also allows me to zone out.

Sometimes I'll listen to the same 3 minute piece on repeat. Sometimes it'll be half a soundtrack. Or one of those "OST + Ambience relaxing mix" folks make. I use YouTube Music, so it'll be whatever I can find on there.

I wrote most of Episode 2 to various combinations of music from the Horizon series, namely:

City on the Mesa

Meridian, Shining

Horizon: Zero Dawn Ambient Mix (D3pth0fField)

Horizon: Forbidden West Ambient Mix (D3pth0fField)

10 hour Witcher 3 relaxing/ambient mix (yes it really is 10 hours)

I really like D3pth0fField's video game mixes, they take out all the action pieces that are way too percussive (i.e. distracting) to write to and re-order what's left so it's not in the soundtrack order.

FFXV is my favourite video game score ever, with Octopath Traveller as a very close second.

🎶 What music do you listen to when you write?

I mostly find it pretty impossible to write to music with lyrics, so it's almost always instrumental.

I can't remember if I ever linked this playlist or not but this is what I put on most of the time. It's mostly video game OST, Disney + OUAT. But I also have a handful of spotify playlists, including a playlist which is just a bunch of different Pinocchio soundtracks, a specific fake/real playlist (aka, disney OST), a playlist that consists mostly of contemporary classical and a playlist that's like.....90% Skyrim OST (Jeremy Soule, SO beloved).

Occasionally, if there's noise from outside my headphones and I can't block it out with anything above, I put on my dubstep/EDM/generally LOUD music playlist because it's less distracting than other music with lyrics/has less lyrics than other music.

Running through an army with my shield up is brokenly awesome. And if you have high enough stamina, you can actually kill low level mooks with just a shield bash.”

Spinel: “And Sharpie is still a sneak archer.”

Sharpie: “Shut it. It’s clean, efficient and effective. Why waste my energy when I can kill someone effortlessly from the shadows?”

But not every group of Goblins has a King. Goblins always have leaders, but a King only emerges, when a Goblin absorbed massive quantities of Essence.

“Goblins are among the monster races with a certain trait, which allows them to grow in size, the more Essence their body houses. Goblin Kings are enormous. If one happens to emerge, he becomes a very powerful foe.”

Joy laughed. “No, quite the opposite. If a Goblin happens to absorb enough Essence, it lays an egg, like many monsters do. In the end, they hunt down other living beings to reproduce. Battle is, quite literally, keeping them alive.”

Iry raised her brows.

“But if the Goblin King has absorbed enormous amounts of Essence, that means he must also lay a huge number of eggs.”

“Precisely. That’s why the rumor has emerged that Goblin King has appeared. The number of Goblins just keeps rising uncontrollably, so it’s not impossible. But if it were true, the situation looks dire.”

“If the Goblin King decides to strike, an army of Goblins would befall the city.”

I live in a pretty chaotic apartment so I tend to always listen to music when I write in order to concentrate on my own thoughts rather than on what is happening all around me  !!  Depending on the muse, I usually pick melodies that might somewhat resonate with their environment or with the situation that I am trying to describe in a certain thread  ;  what is common to all types of music, no matter which muse I am currently portraying, is the fact that I prefer songs with no lyrics as I tend to get distracted very, very, very easily.

As an example  !!  When it comes to Ahri, I tend to listen to either the “Memoirs of a Geisha” OST as it’s beautiful and I’ve had it on my writing playlists for years so it’s very comforting. I also really enjoy those videos with ambience music from either videogames or music, as they are sometimes even embellished with the rain sound added in the background and this one, with melodies from “Skyrim”, is a personal favorite. Lately, however, I’ve been stuck with this playlist of ambient versions of three of my favorite songs  !!  The “Ambient Collection” is really beautiful and relaxing and comforting and it pulls onto the strings of my heart very easily  (  even though I suggest to listen to it on spotify, as it flows very nicely without interruption between the 2830280928302 songs  )  . 

ᚡ - Random fact about the mun?

I know that I already answered this on another post, but... Mmmmh... Even though I’ve been called “bun”  (  and its derivative synonyms  )  since I was a child, my favorite animal is not the bun itself  !!  Well, I also love buns but some time ago, I began loving red pandas with my whole itty bitty heart. Why  ?  Well, this friend of mine one day sent me a video about them and he said something like  “I can’t believe that red pandas are bears that are inefficient at being bears... Wait, that’s your description”  and that stuck with me ever since because it was so funny and so true, at the same time. So, one of my dreams is that of seeing a red panda in real life  !!!  They are so... floofy.

Fuck it, I'll rant about my hobby.

1) Yes when I'm lost looking for that damn last piece of a puzzle. I'm there to have fun but I also have so little patience

2) Bungie. Say what you will about their recent practices, they created a great couple of series and are consistent with their work. If only their parent company let them work at their own pace...

3) Witcher 3. CD Project Red may have shot themselves in the foot with cyberpunk 2077, but the witcher is still one of the best experiences I've ever played

4) None come to mind. They all have their ups and downs. We all like what we like and what not

5) Call of duty. Used to be a fun series but now.... *shudders*

6) Thronebreaker: The witcher tales. If your a fan of strategy games this one is a must. It takes gwent, a game made for the witcher 3, and creates a whole story around it. It's more then just a card game though. Seriously do yourself a favor and even if you only modertly like card games or the witcher series, check out this game. I promise you won't be disappointed.

7) Mass Effect. Specifically the citadel. Never have I felt such joy and sadness at completing a series. I wish I could go back and play it again for the first time

8) Halo 2 OST. Enough said

9) Warthunder. Who needs to hear my engine die as I get shot down time and again?

10) Assassin's creed odyssey. Idk I just can't get into it no matter how many times I try.
