Music: How To Listen

alright, you little goobers, its time to talk about music. what about it, you ask, in your tinny little voices. worry not, shark babies, i will tell you what. as an experienced music listener myself, i can understand that many of you babies are lost and confused. and its alright, okay? its easy to get lost in a world where taylor swift exists alongside as rammstein.

so, you're wondering--how do i get cool points through my music? firstly, dont do that. to get cool points, you ought not to seek cool points. but here are my music recs. probably none of these are underground and are actually pretty popular, but i do not accept bitter shark babies, only the sweet, joyful ones.

Radiohead: First, let me clarify, I am a girl. I've heard sooo many people make jokes about Ooh, Radiohead is for loser incel men. NO. radiohead is for all genders of incels. now, Radiohead's great. love them, make stickers of them. but what songs should you start out with? Ok, personally, I love everything. e v e r y t h i n g. but, I understand you may not be able to reach my levels of obsession and insanity. thats okay! it's not healthy! now, I recommend listening to them album-wise. start with either 'The Bends' or 'In Rainbows'. 'ok computer' is a solid choice too, but I would save it for later in your obsession. Have fun, my little shark babies, you will be sad. (Ik these are really basic and vague choices but these are recs for people seeking to get into new music)

Big Thief: Alright, chances are, many of you have heard them. If you have, gold star. ⭐. If you haven't, but you desperately crave the validation of me, a stranger and your shark mother, go listen to them. Right now, I love them. Again, they are a little bit slower and a little sadder. So, if that's not your thing, wait until later on the list, alright? If you're only starting to listen to them, I recommend going with one of their more popular albums--'Masterpiece'. They also have a single, 'Vampire Empire', which makes me go feral every time it plays. If you like the, keep exploring their discography, and come collect your gold star.

Le Tigre: Woah, nelly, this band. (who even is Nelly?) Okay, so Le Tigre has this wild ability of just filling me with a slight manicness, iykwim? I will bet 20 cents that you have heard Deceptacon(I'm broke), although you might not know the name. With them, just go to their profile on Spotify, play it on shuffle, and sacrifice your soul to the gods. Have fun, Pookie!

A Tribe Called Quest: As someone who listens to very little hip-hop, I have been told by my more cultured friends that this is hip-hop. I love it. So much. An album of theirs I adore is 'The Low End Theory' which has one of my favourite songs ever, 'Jazz We Got'

The Departures: Okay, these guys are genuinely unknown to the world. Like, they have some 5k listeners. I love them. They have a couple of albums, and you absolutely should go listen. They're kind of chaotic and messy and twirly, but in the best ways possible. Listen to the album 'Yes No Maybe' first, because it is the genuine love of my life. They also released an album this year, 'Hourglass' which is also seriously good. Like, really good.

my bloody valentine: NOW HEAR ME OUT. I understand that their name sounds like its a bunch of emo vampires who are really just middle schoolers with fake teeth on. So there's a genre of music called shoegaze(similar to Cocteau Twins if you know them) which is really just soft, kind of ethereal music where you can't really decipher the words. I will be making another post on just shoegaze, but their album 'loveless' is an excellent place to start. it's just great. go listen.

John Coltrane: Now, the only way to describe John Coltrane is a prayer through jazz. Like, it's a totally spiritual experience. Again, will be doing a little post on jazz, but John Coltrane is iconic. 'A Love Supreme' is a great place to start, I also like 'Ascension' Genuinely iconic, will alter your brain chemistry. Go, shark babes, listen.

Bikini Hill: If you liked Le Tigre's 'Deceptacon', you will love their 'Pussy Whipped'. Very similar vibe, I've been told its called riot girl, which sounds iconic. Anyways, seriously vibey music, go listen right this second.

The Newfound Interest in Connecticut: Y'all, midwest emo is my jam! I mean, whiny little voices in my ear, hell yeah! Okay, so Is specifically mentioned this band for their album 'Tell Me About The Long Dark Path Home', which is simply edible. Yeah, these guys like their long ass names. But anyways, go listen!!!

Minor Threat: These guys are punk. Listen to their album 'First Two Seven Inches'. it's a great place to start. If you like them, I will find some time to make a punk rec post too, but to be honest I need to explore the genre more. So y'all have fun now!

Reunited Le Tigre Come Home to Brooklyn Steel to Close Out Tour

Here’s a thought: It’s a little out there and a little … scary? But this is just an exercise, and this is just a blog post. What if, for now, just for a couple of hours, we chose joy? Yes, it’s 2023. Yes, the world is boiling like a hot pot. And it’s the worst year in modern memory for trans rights, gay rights and reproductive rights. But no one’s asking you to ignore that, least of all, Le Tigre, the high-energy, unrelenting, unabashedly political project of Kathleen Hanna (of Bikini Kill), Johanna Fateman and JD Samson.

But 20 years on from the band’s last live show, can we have a little fun too? Thankfully, the answer was a resounding yes on Thursday night at Brooklyn Steel, the first of the hometown band’s three sold-out nights in Brooklyn — and their last three on tour after many years away. It’s hard to name an album that I wore out more in my early teens than Le Tigre (1999), so witnessing its songs and lyrics live, bursting with the same hooks, howls and drum loops, was the most special of treats. After rousing and delightfully warm MC’ing by Murray Hill, the band took the stage and launched into the scuzzy guitar loop and dance-y backbeat of “The the Empty,” with Hanna, in puffy purple dress and yellow tights, unleashing her signature battle-cry vocals: “Why won’t you answer me? Answer me! Answer me!”

“TKO” (This Island, 2004), with punchy Pop Art backing graphics, followed, then “FYR” (“Fifty years of ridicule”), from Feminist Sweepstakes (2001), whose lyrics flashed behind the trio, the effect landing somewhere between protest poster and APPLAUSE sign: “Can we trade Title IX for an end to hate crime? / RU-486 if we suck your fucking dick.” “What's Yr Take on Cassavetes,” among the most innovative tracks on Le Tigre, brought me back to the band’s lo-fi bedroom-project humor that made me fall in love: You can be this funny and this jaded in music? 

It was nice to know the songs brought them back, too. Fateman took the wheel on “Mediocrity Rules” (From the Desk of Mr. Lady, 2001), a song she said made her feel like she was in her 20s again. Even “Viz” (This Island), which Samson said was about the very real experience of being treated like shit at a party (seemingly not fun to revisit) had the whole room grooving. I struggle, reader, to not detail every moment. “My My Metrocard” in Brooklyn, video art of random garbage-like products, stop-motion scuba divers. “Eau d’Bedroom Dancing” as the set closer. But the real barn burner, of course, was the final song, the encore closer — “Deceptacon,” that singular, perfect bop that somehow opens Le Tigre. “Who took the bomp?” Hanna — and everyone else in the room — screamed. i know we’ve all seen the nightwing movie intro post and i want to propose an intro to a tim drake (as robin) movie. also this is long so its under the cut

first of all i think that in this movie jack should still be alive and married to dana at the town house, after he gets out of his rich person depression. so if i’m remembering correctly, that would also mean to include steph, bernard, and darla as his friends. i think that one of the best aspects of tim’s run as robin is the fact that he’s hiding being robin from his dad, and the way that forced the robin run to focus on more than just being robin. i think that of tim’s generation of heroes at the time he was the only one who had to actively hide his hero status from his parent. (actually no that’s wrong there was anita fite, but i’m going to maintain this bc her dad was already entrenched in weird shit working for the deo, so a superhero daughter was not an insane jump i would say, esp with her family situation, by which i mean the guy that killed her parents) so anyways all this to say that i want the tension btwn his civilian life and his robin life to play a large role in the story, bc i love that shit.

so in that vein, i would want the movie to start out in his civilian life, and in a similar way to the nightwing movie idea where it doesn’t show his face until the title screen. like, we’re in the theater, we know what we’re seeing, so all we have to introduce is his civie life, bc we know who batman is and how he works.

so anyways to get to the actual intro…

we start out in literally the messiest teenage boy’s room you’ve ever seen. stacks of cds, messy notebooks with papers half ripped out, a half deconstructed computer tower, a picture of steph in a purple frame on the desk. there’s a photo booth strip of photos peeking out from behind with the core four, one of them wearing large oversized sunglasses so you can’t see his face. you hear a rustling sound off screen and a hand reaches onscreen and grabs a skateboard as a female voice (dana) yells for tim vaguely from a room away/downstairs.

we see tim’s legs/board as he jogs downstairs, then scan over like, family photos? to show the circus photo, show that janets died, jacks remarried, and like maybe some school awards? that taper off over time to show the effect of robin on his grades? like he’s focusing even more on being a hero, adding to the tension btwn civilian/hero life. maybe on the fridge there’s a report card with a c or d grade circled with the words “we will talk about this” or smth on it in red pen. tim opens the fridge, grabs a snack, and continues out the building, calling out a goodbye to dana/his dad on his way out.

outside, we see tim throw down his board and start skating (this part i see being soundtracked with i wanna be sedated by the ramones. major 90s teen movie vibes is what i want from this in general). he starts skating and we see the people he skates by wave at him, maybe with birds of prey-style notes pointing to each person saying what robin saved them from? idk maybe too derivative lol. anyways he keeps skating, doing a few tricks as he goes. the board obviously has like robin, nightwing, wonder girl, superboy, and impulse symbol stickers on it. maybe there’s like a handmade purple “s” design too for spoiler. anyways he keeps skating until he gets to a skatepark, where he meets steph, who says smth like “you ready to go?” and has either roller skates or in-line skates, obviously purple bc i want to really commit to stephs love affair with purple. we hear like a yes or smth from tim, who then skates into the park and we do a freeze frame on tim in the middle of a trick mid air, where we actually see his face for the first time, and get the big robin title over it. i want this to be disgustingly nineties.

i don’t know which robin arc i would want this to follow, or like a different plot, but i would like jack to find out he’s robin and make him quit. i’d rather have steph just get closer to bruce than become robin. i lovelovelove steph as robin but i’d want the movie to start and finish with tim as robin and i 1.) don’t want steph to die and 2.) just think that war games is too much to tackle to get him back as robin. i also don’t want a war games movie bc despite the fact that tim’s part of wg at his school is my favorite part of the arc, i really don’t want thay in a movie. like i would hate that in a way i can’t describe.

but also, i do want steph to be in a lot of this movie. she’s a really important character in tim’s run as robin, and at this point in the run, a lot of the issues were like half steph stories. also, as much as i love the core four, i’d like to focus on just gotham. i’d also like to maybe do tim’s 16th birthday arc, but i’d want him to already be 16 so…🤷‍♀️

soundtrack: lots of 70s/80s/90s rock and pop. the ramones, the clash (obvi), some led zeppelin, deceptacon by le tigre, blondie or maybe some spice girls? teenage dirtbag by wheatus is kind of a must. so is the cure. also when bernard hangs out with tim i want stacys mom to play when he sees dana. i have a brand and i stick with it. also maybe some rooney. during a steph part i’d really like chick habit by april march to play. also kids in america playing during a spoiler and robin fight montage.

so anyways yeah. that’s all i have. a lot of words for a little substance. and skater boy tim. i want tim’s vibes to be like a mix of both ferris and cameron from ferris bueller’s day off

                     *3:00 at a abandoned storage room*

Bumblebee and Steeljaw’s are now fighting 1v1.

Bumblebee: “Its about time your deceptacon empire is going down Steeljaw.”

Steeljaw: “NEVER I WILL MAKE A WORLD FOR THE DECEPTACONS.”

Bumblebee tries to hit Steeljaw with his deceptacon hunter,Steeljaw dodges bumblebees attack and accidently triped on something and fell into a empty amazon box.

Steeljaw: “GET BACK HERE BUMBLEBEE SO I CAN RIP YOUR HEAD OFF.”

Bumblebee: “pfft... umm Steel-pfft,theres something on your chestplate.”

Steeljaw: “WHAT ARE TALKING ABOUT!?”

Sideswipe comes in to assist Bumblebee and he just see’s Steeljaw with a cardboard box,Sideswipe can’t help but burst out laughing.

Sideswipe: “BHA ha ha,he-hey Steeljaw did something happen to you or is it just your leadership.”

Thunderhoof hears something and goes to Steeljaw what all the ruckus is about.

Thunderhoof: “AY STEEL-....,what are yous wearing?”

Steeljaw doesn’t know what Thunderhoof is talking about until he notices that he’s stuck one of the boxes that he triped over.

Steeljaw: “WHAT THE,EHGAH.”

The rest of the team hears Steeljaw’s anger checks on him.

Fracture:”Steeljaw,whats going on......”

Clampdown: “What the primus happend to you,pfft... you seem umm a little different.”

Steeljaw tries to go in alt mode but that doesn’t work,Grimlock and Strongarm come in and just see Steeeljaw with the B O X.

Strongarm:”Lutenint,whats going on he-,umm whats wrong with Steeljaw.”

Bumblebee: “Umm how do I explain this,uhh he just trips over the boxes and he just got stuck there.”

Divebomb: “Steeljaw WTF do we do?!”

Steeljaw: “This my umm first time saying this,we have to retreat without alt mode.”

everyone agrees and they just speed walks out of the storage room and Steeljaw shuffles awkwardly.

                                           *Back at Steeljaw’s Base*

Thunderhoof: “Ayo Steeljoo,umm how are we gonna try to get this off”

Steeljaw: “umm Clampdown try to grab this thing and pull it out.”

Clampdown: “Got it boss”

Steeljaw: “Thunderhoof grab on to Clampdown and pull at the same time.”

Steeljaw: “Ok on the count of 3 2 1”

While pulling on to the cardboard,Thunderhoof accidently slips his hand and just throws Clampdown at the wall and makes a dent.

Clampdown: “WHAT THE HELL THUNDERHOOF.”

Steeljaw: “Fracture,try to get your minicon to rip me out so I will be free.”

Fracture nods and takes out Divebomb and Airazor.

Fracture: “Ok umm,I know this situation is umm not the same but try to just free Steeljaw from... whatever he’s wearing.”

Divebomb and Airazor try to rip and ther box but that's not working at all.

Divebomb: “Nothing is working WTF do we do?!?”

Underbite: “I GOT THIS.”

Underbite tries to rip a chunk out the the box and Steeljaws go flying off along with the box still stuck on him.

Underbite: “Oh... I don’t feel so good.”

Underbite plops on the floor and just gets sick.

Quillfire: “FOR THE REVOLUTION.”

Thunderhoof: “QUILLFIRE NO-”

Quillfire shoots his quill at his chest plate and one of them hits his face.

Thunderhoof: “Oh no....”

Steeljaws optics widen up and just start running around the base.

Steeljaw just sees Airazor as a chew toy and just goes ham on him.

Airazor: “HEY WHAT TH-”

Airazor: “HOW DO YOU STOP THIS THING.”

Fracture instantly grabs onto Steeljaw and it just turns into riding him.

Fracture: “DOWN STEELJAW,DOWN”

Meanwhile Airazor get chomped on by Steeljaw

Steeljaw drops Airazor just bust out to the exit of the base and starts just runnning.

Fracture lets go of Steeljaw in relief that Airazor is no that hardly injured.

Fracture: “Scrap,Steeljaw escaped and we don’t even know where he’s heading,Divebomb check his signal.”

Divebomb: “Boss umm,we may a problem.”

Fracture: “What is it?!”

Divebomb: “His signal is near the Scrapyard.”

Thunderhoof: “Scrap he’s gonna get captured.”

Thunderhoof: “Wait I have an idea.”

Fracture: “?”

Thunderhoof: “Fracture can you get one of our energon blocks and carve it up like a stick.”

                                         “Back at the Scrapyard“

Sideswipe: “pfft”

Slipstream: “Whats so funny Sideswipe?”

Sideswipe: “Oh you should've have been there,so while Bumble and Steeljaw were fighting 1v1,Steeljaw triped on something probably and fell on a pile on boxes and one o- pfft he got stuck on one of them.”

Slipstream: “PFFT”

Jetstorm: “What are you guys talking about?”

Slipstream: “Steeljaw got stuck in a box while we were on a mission.”

Jetstorm: “BHA HA ha,scrap I can’t stop laughing now”

Drift: “What in the primus are you talking about.”

Sideswipe: “I'm not gonna try to laugh very hard but while we were on our missions Steeljaw got stuck in a box.”

Drift: “What...”

Sideswipe: “PFFT... its true they kinda have to retreat and Steeljaw is just shuffling away.”

Meanwhile Steeljaw see the scrapyard and imeadietly starts jumps on the security door and manages to get over.

Sideswipe: “What the... I'm gonna go check something,I just heard something might be a deceptacon.”

Sideswipe gets ready and pull out his deceptacon hunter.Sideswipe goes to where the source of the noise is.

Sideswipe: “Hello anyone there?”

Sideswipe: “What the.... STEELJAW” 

Steeljaw notices that voice and turns around and his optics get more wider and wider.

Steeljaw pounces on Sideswipe,dropping his deceptacon hunter.

Sideswipe: “WHA- what the hell is with you today!?”

Steeljaw slowly drags Sideswipes arm to the securities door.

Sideswipe: “SOMEONE HELP ME”

Fixit hears something and leaves the command center for a little bit.

Fixit: “?”

Fixit notices something dragging Sideswipes arm and imeadiety runs down to check it out and he just see’s Steeljaw just dragging on his arm.

Fixit: “STEELJAW and why do you have a cardboard box on your chestplate?”

Steeljaw drops Sideswipes arm and runs at Fixit full speed and bites on his arm. 

Fixit: ”He-,LET ME GO”

Steeljaw yeets his body in the middle of the scrapyard and just starts running around in circles and barking around at the autobots.

Fixit: “SOMEBODY HELP MEE.”

Bumblebee: “STEELJAW STOP RIGHT THERE.”

Strongarm: “STOP RIGHT THERE IN THE NAME OF THE LAW,YOU ARE BREAKING PROPERTY.”

Thunderhoof and the rest of the pack drives into the scrapyard.

Thunderhoof: “STEELJOO,WE KNOW THAT HERE,I GOT A SCPECIAL TREAT FOR YOUS.”

Steeljaw recognized Thunderhoof’s voice and drops Fixit.

Thunderhoof takes out the energon stick that they planed out and tries to lure Steeljaw.

Thunderhoof: “Cmon Steeljoo,I know yous want this.”

Steeljaw runs up to Thunderhoof as the speed of light.

Thunderhoof turn to alt mode and there both on a cat and mouse chase.

Steeljaws getting faster and faster while on Thunderhoof’s tail.Thunderhoof has to call Fracture in com to get here for backup.

Thunderhoof: “Fracture get ready,Steeljaws getting onto my ta-,SCRAP Steeljaws now on me,yous know what get yous minicons and get over here.”

Fracture: “Sigh...,Divebomb,Airazor lets go”

Divebomb & Airazor: “Yes boss.”

Thunderhoof: “Steeljoo,why you gotta do this to me.”

Steeljaw: “B A R K”

                                           *A few minutes later*

Fracture: “OK,WHAT DID STEELJAW DO NOW?!”

Fracture: “Oh...”

Thuderhoof: “How the fuck do I even got stuck here you ask...,I don’t know really.”

Fracture: “Pfft,ok well try to get you out of Steeljaw’s... position.”

Fracture just tries pulling off Steeljaw but Steeljaw doesn’t get off easily.

Thunderhoof: “Steeljoo yous are no- getting this.”

Thunderhoof: “Fracture I have a plan yous gonna have to run to the base with the energon stick.”

Fracture: “Ok on the count of 3.3,2,1.”

Fracture changes his alt mode and driving as fast as he can.

Fracture luckly makes in the the base and yeets the energon in there.

Steeljaw imeandietly runs into the base and busy chewing on his energon.

Thunderhoof: “Fracture,did you manage to get Steeljoo into the base.”

Fracture: “Yes,Steeljaw is in the base.”

Thunderhoof: “I’ll be back at the base soon,try to pin Steeljoo down on the right time if Steeljoo trys to escape.”

                                                 *Some time later*

The rest of kinda calms down Steeljaw.Everyone is able to rest for a little bit wile there guarding Steeljaw to not escape.

Thunderhoof: “Hey Quillfire,can yous go gets some scraps of metal,were gonna have to make a wall since gonna be in stasis and Steeljaw is probably gonna escape anyway.”

                                               *Sometime later*

Quillfire comes back to the base with the scrap metal and starts building the wall except for Underbite that is guarding Steeljaw from not escaping.

Some time pasts by and everyone is off to stasis mode.

Thunderhoof hears some scraping from his berth.

Thunderhoof: “Sigh,Steeljoo what do you want now?”

Steeljaw: *insert dog whining sounds*

Thunderhoof: “Steeljoo we are NOT going outside,yous caused enough trouble for today.”

Steeljaw is just barking a lot.

Thunderhoof: “GO  TO  SLEEP.”

                             *1 hour until the maturity affects wear off*

They team wake up from stasis and they realize they have to bring Steeljaw so he doesn’t run off somewhere.

Thunderhoof: ”Wait Steeljaw...,how are we gonna restrain him from not escaping from a mission?”

Divebomb: “I’ve heard that are these leashes that humans for their pets,why don’t kind of just steal one.”

Thunderhoof: “Ok I’ll accept yous plan,Underbite were resuming this mission,stay here a guard Steeljoo.”

Some time later they break into the pet store and get the leash

Thunderhoof and the rest of the team come back and Underbite stugguling to hold him down for a little while.

Underbite: “Thank the Pimuses you came back,Steeljaw’s trying to escape and go outside for a little while.”

Fracture: “Scrap,I’ll hold Steeljaw while Thunderhoof prepares the leash.”

everything becomes disaster.

Thunderhoof: “Ok umm Divebomb yous know human stuff right,how do you use this?”

Divebomb: “There are 2 parts of the leash,theres one that hooks onto the leash so you can hook it or unhook it.”

Divebomb: “Just try not to... break it.”

Thunderhoof tries to rangle Steeljaw with the leash but Steeljaw just rips it apart. 

Thunderhoof: “...”

Thunderhoof: “OH FOR PIRMUS SAKE STEELJOO.”

Steeljaw pulls on the leash refusing to get it on himself.

Thunderhoof: “Finne... will go outside unless you put the leash on.”

Steeljaw stops resisting and go’s up to Thunderhoof waiting for him to put on the leash.

Thunderhoof: “There we go,not that hard,right Steeljoo?”

Thunderhoof: “Cmon,we got a mission to compleate.”

Thunderhoof and the team go to the same storage room where they are gonna try to finish it.

                                         *Back at the Scrapyard*

Fixit: “Bumblebee I'm detecting signals from Steeljaws pack that they are going to the same storage room as the last mission.”

Bumblebee: “team lets rev up and roll out.”

Thunderhoof and the team make it early to the storage room.

Thunderhoof: “Ok Steeljoo,be a good deceptacon and stay here,make some noise if you see and autobots coming.”

Bee and his team make it to the storage room and barge in what Steeljaw’s pack want.

Steeljaw: “B A R K  B A R K” 

Sideswipe: “oh ther-,WAIT IS HE STILL  WEARING THE SAME CARDBOARD BOX.”

Strongarm: “FREEZE DECEPTACON.”

Steeljaw go’s running through Sideswipe.

Sideswipe: “OH NO NOT THIS AGAIN.”

Steeljaw trying to rip off Sideswipe arm as a toy for himself.

Sideswipe: “GAHHH”

Thunderhoof: “Oh... its Steeljoo”

Thunderhoof and the team run to get Steeljaw,knowing what he will do will make it more worse.

Thunderhoof: “STEELJOO,come here boy,I get energon for you after this mission.”

“So, Uh, What Else is New?“ - A General and Completely Fun BOTC News Update

Okay, so it's been a while since we gave you some broad news, so let's do a big catch-up and hit you with some updates from a bunch of different areas that involve no hospitalisations! Yaaaay! (Amy is doing fine, by the way, and is still on the mend. Thank you all for all your messages, good thoughts, and support. It really does make a great difference.)

Blood on the Clocktower continues to shine at conventions and events. Some super awesome Storytellers across the U.S., and one in the U.K., continue to run games of Clocktower for people wanting to play:

January saw Storytellers Ted and Brittany with Clocktower at OrcaCon in Seattle WA and PAX South in San Antonio TX.

In February, it's already been played by Young MENSA North in the U.K. with Ben as Storyteller; had an enormous non-stop long weekend at DeceptaCon in Atlanta GA with Ted, Brittany, and David; and made an appearance at Strategicon in Los Angeles CA with Megan as Storyteller (fun fact - Megan was in that first ever game of Clocktower, way back in 2014).

This weekend it's at Hoop & Stick Con at Columbus OH's Ravenwood Castle, with Ted, David, and Silvana as Storytellers. Ravenswood Bluff goes to Ravenwood Castle. Whoa. And the photos we’re getting from Ted and David are already incredible. (I’ll put a few in at the end of this post.)

March will see BOTC at Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle WA with Brittany as Storyteller; at Con Con in Sydney with most of the Sydney crew there (this city's very first social deduction gaming convention); at CT Gamer Con in Uncasville CT with the indomitable and ceaselessly excellent Ted, and with Eden heading over from Sydney to join him; and then Eden will stick around for freakin' PAX East in Boston MA and a tonne of Boston Storytellers. (Just quickly – Boston has been playing A LOT of Clocktower this past year, so PAX East is going to be massive.)

Shut Up & Sit Down received their review copy! (And seem to be enjoying it too!) Steven, Brittany, and Meg had such a great time at SHUX Show 2018 that we are 100% planning to be there again in October 2019 (it may be the first thing to get me out of Australia this year), so we're thrilled that they get to be having fun with it in the meantime.

We have a rulebook editor! Joshua Yearsley, who worked on the rulebooks for the asymmetric forest-fight instant-hit Root, is working hard with Steven Medway (designer of BOTC) to get these rulebooks up to snuff and as bulletproof as possible in time for the Kickstarter.

Brisbane and Melbourne have their very own grimoires! After spending so much time travelling in the U.S. last year, it's great to finally get pre-release copies to some other Australian cities. If you're in these cities and want to play, you can join the Facebook groups here:

The wiki is on its way. When I first drafted this section I was like “Yeah this bit of the wiki is done,” and then realised that we haven't gone into the wiki in much detail before. So: We've got a wiki! Clocktower is a big, crazy, fun game and we want to get a bunch of the tips, tricks, philosophies, and stories down in one place for anyone who wants to get advice on a particular role or aspect, or just dive deeper overall. This is a fun project that Steven and Amy have been working on behind the scenes for a long time and the first big piece of it is now in place.

The 'Characters' section of the Blood on the Clocktower wiki is finished for all roles in the base editions, being Trouble Brewing, Sects & Violets, and Bad Moon Rising. With the character sections finished, you'll be able to look up any role and get some insights on the next level of strategic options when playing as, bluffing as, or fighting against that character.

One thing in particular that I love about it is that for many pieces of advice it gives, there's often a counter-point showing the strategic merits of the exact opposite option. For example, the section on the Investigator goes into the merits of both revealing your info straight away or keeping it secret for a few days. How you do it is really up to you and there’s no wrong answer. It shows the flexibility of the game, and that there's never just one way to play or one way to win. The wiki, in whatever form it's up to, will be out in time for the Kickstarter.

The advanced roles are taking over the world. Storytellers in Boston, Los Angeles, and Derby (U.K.) are starting to get some of the 'advanced' roles that we've been play-testing in Sydney for quite a while now, so that they can have a crack at them too. Some of them may find their way into the Kickstarter as stretch goals, so we're getting them into more and more games now to see how they do. So far, they've proved a massive hit.

Among them are:

The Lycanthrope – a Townsfolk who means well but has the unfortunate habit of turning rather wolflike at night and tearing people apart. But here’s the catch: they’ll only kill a player they choose if they're on the Good Team too. Sorry, friend! (But for real, werewolves aren't inherently bad. For every Fenrir Greyback out there causing havoc, there's a Remus Lupin trying their best.)

The Lleech – a Demon that cannot be executed, but who has infected and poisoned an unsuspecting member of the town. You defeat the Lleech by killing the one they are leeching off. This one was an instant hit when it first came into play in Sydney, and leads to an amusingly high number of players campaigning for their own executions. “Kill me, I'm pretty sure I'm poisoned – if we kill me, we'll win.”

The General – a Townsfolk that gains one of the greatest insights of all: An insight into the Storyteller's mind. Each night, the Storyteller tells the General who The Storyteller thinks is winning. So if you've just executed that Undertaker because of bad info, prepare to get a big thumbs down from that Storyteller, mwahahahaha. But, maybe you've just killed that pesky minion: Prepare for a big thumbs up and a toothy grin from that Storyteller. (Unless, of course, you’re a Drunk General...)

Legion – A demon where most players are the demon – but players are only executed when a Good player votes. The Legion must work together to make it look like a regular game where everything is normal, whilst working to turn the few unsuspecting Good players against each other. We are Legion.

The Poppy Grower – Can I just say how much I love the Poppy Grower? I friggin' love the Poppy Grower. When the Poppy Grower is around, Evil players don't learn who each other are at the start of the game (presumably because they be gettin' hiiiiiigh). They'll find out if the Poppy Grower dies, but until then it's just chaos – beautiful, beautiful chaos.

Finally, we've been flexing our Kickstarter account and backing some projects. Here are some fun ones:

Black 3.0. The Blackest Black. So, when we started a Kickstarter account to eventually run our campaign through, I said to the team “Okay we've got this Kickstarter account, let's take it for a spin. We can back cool games we find, friends' projects, or anything that'll be good times for the Salisbury Festival of Board Games,” and then last week Steven was like “Hey check this thing out, it's THE BLACKEST BLACK.” It's not a game but I asked “Hey if we back this will you use it?” and then there was some very serious nodding from all around the table. We backed it that night. Prepare for total darkness, motherfuckers.

Parks. Not only is this a fun-looking game with gorgeous art, it's basically the board-game version of the real lives of 'Driving Curiosity', friends of Blood on the Clocktower. They're a couple of great science nerds who spent 2018 driving around North America and going to as many national parks as possible (literally the premise of the game 'Parks') and have a book coming out early in 2020. It'll be the guide to science for the National Parks, as told through the story of two friends having a rad road trip. I think you can still back 'Parks' through the pledge manager, and you can follow the journey of Driving Curiosity, from parks to book, through their Instagram @DrivingCuriosity.

City of the Big Shoulders. When I was living in Ohio last year and trucking Blood on the Clocktower to as many conventions as possible, I ended up making friends with Emily Dearring, who runs Central Ohio Social Deception. Then she surprised the heck out of us by coming out of left field with this project that she’s creative art director on - this heavy Euro-style game about the industrial and commercial history of Chicago, called 'City of the Big Shoulders'. I’m looking forward to getting stuck into this when it arrives and showing it off at the Salisbury Festival of Board Games. Again, the campaign has finished but you can still grab it through the pledge manager.
