“There’s a storm outside, so I can’t warm up in the sun, and Ace fell asleep while eating again; you're the only source of heat around.”

He sighs, turning around on his chair and picking up the child from the table, putting them on his lap, and turning back around to his paper

“There, now will you let me finish these papers?”

“You’re so warm, Brother Marco.”

He chuckles at the motion before grabbing her and picking her up, placing her on his lap

“I see him. Okay, ankle biter, you’re up,” he said, grabbing the girl from his shoulders and putting her on the ground, kneeling down on the ground next to her

“See the guy with the red shirt? He’s a long-distance sniper; I need you to take him out while I go help Izou with the melee fighters.”

She grins, her two incisors poking out of her mouth as she did

“Bite?” she said, looking at her brother, waiting for permission

“Yes, you can bite; go get ’em.”

She grins, shifting into her cat form and running closer to the guy; once close enough, she began prowling, silently approaching the guy until she was right next to them, at which point she pounced on them, making quick work of them, removing their going and easily gaining a surrender

She shifted into her human form, grinning as she kneeled on the now fainted man, chuckling as she watched her brothers make quick work of the rest of the enemies

“Impressive.” Izou praised her, approaching the girl, Ace following behind him, looking down at the man she had incapacitated.

She gives him a toothy grin in response, purring at the affection

As a reward for her hard work, Izou decided not to comment on the very obvious purring coming out from her as he continued rubbing her head , her ears tilting and twitching as she enjoyed her hard-earned pampering

synopsis: Senju´s class mate, meets Takeomi while working on a school project with her. from there, he keeps on teasing her. he is double her age so its obvious its not serious.....right?

I feel like I'm a bad person. I feel like some people would judge me for my actions and I feel like, if she would know why I always come over; she would never talk to me ever again. 

Senju is great; don't get me wrong. I am happy to call her my friend, but I'd be lying if I didn't say, there is an ulterior motive for me to come to her place. 

It's because he is there. Takeomi Akashi. Her older brother.

It started a few months ago, when I was assigned to a project with Senju. Before, we knew each other; we would be in similar friend groups, but that's when I really started talking. 

Senju is a nice and sweet girl, bubbly and kind. She is welcoming and offers to do the project at her place right away. I accept because, for me, I just want to get it over with. 

I am a little bit of a socially complicated person who doesn't really like being around people. Usually hiding behind my bangs and glasses. People always take my quiet and reserved nature as being cold and condescending. In truth, I am just shy and don't really know what to say.

Senju never has an issue with that. Senju could see through me right away. 

I was sitting in the living room of her small apartment. It is a small 2-bedroom apartment, and I heard before that she was living with her brother and not with her parents, but I never really gave much thought to why that is.

We are both busy working on the project, occasionally cracking a joke and laughing. I am sucked into the work until the front door opens.

That's when I see him the first time.

He is tall; his dark hair was slicked back, some gray streaks and blond sections in it. He has a scar over one of his bright eyes. His eyes themselves are a bright color with so much depth, I thought I could drown in them. His body is muscular and very lean. He looks like he trains regularly. The remains of a cigarette in his hand as he blows out the last bit of smoke out the door before fully stepping in.

I'd be lying if you'd say that you weren't starring at first.

My eyes were glued to him. His toned chest covered in a loose and deep-cut gym tank top, gray sweatpants that, for a lack of better words, left nothing much to the imagination, and god, he looks large...

My cheeks heated up. 

My eyes go to the floor, and I look back at the project.

"nii-chan! You are home early!" Senju says

"Yeah, the gym closed up early because of the Heat." His voice is gruff and rough. Deep and husky. It is noticeable throughout all his features that he is about double my age. A mature man that lives his life 

I look up to his eyeing you. His expression is unreadable. His face doesn't give much away at all.

"This is my friend nii-san. We are doing homework together," he nods as she speaks, his eyes still on me.

"huuuh." is all he says before he walks to the kitchen. "Do we have something to eat?"

Senju giggles, "Yeah, I made dinner. It's on the stove."

He gets himself a bowl of food and sits down on the sofa next to us. I try to ignore his presence and just focus on your homework. Getting it done and then just leaving. 

"What are you two working on?" he asks.

"Oh, just a project about Japanese history. Nothing crazy," Senju Speaks casually with her brother, seemingly unaware of the tension I feel. 

"Yes, it seems that some people your age have a thing for older things," he says with a smirk... It can't be, right?... He isn't egging me on...right? He is just being playful and nice, right? 

That is the first encounter.

The second one is a few weeks later, when Senju is sick, and I am requests to bring her the schoolwork. 

I ring the bell and wait. Takeomi opens the door. He is on the phone with someone and looks extremely pissed until he lays eyes on me. He has a cigarette in his mouth and gives me a smile.

"What brings you here, doll?" ...doll…he called me a doll… "Not you! Shut up! Give me a minute, dumbass!" he says into the phone before pressing it in his chest to muffle the sounds for them. "So, what do you need? Looking for Senju?" I nod slowly and already feel like a light dusting of pink creeping on my cheeks. "u-uhm, I have her...her homework." He chuckles at me....what does that mean?? Is he making fun of me?? "How thoughtful of you," he says in a mocking tone. "You are a real sweetheart. Good girl." I almost chock on my spit. 

"u-uhm so....h-here is the-the ....homework" I mumble before I hand it to him. My cheeks, ears and neck are a bright red. "I will let her know you were here," he said. I can't stand it much longer. I pretty much ran off in embarrassed 

After that, I avoid going to her house for a few months. She keeps inviting me over for projects, homework or even a sleepover or two. I decline it all. I am so mad at myself. How can a man in his 30s make me feel like that??...

One day, I am out buying groceries. I am in the store holding two bags of instant noodles, trying to decide which one to get, when I hear a familiar voice behind me.

"Haven't seen you in a while, doll face. Are you trying to avoid me?" Takeomi says in a teasing and half-joking tone. "You're hurting my feelings, doll. I thought we had something special~" My cheeks turn pink. I'm panicking. "I-i...uhm....I.....I am not.....trying to avoid...anyone..." He moves closer, which I responded to by backing up until I have a wall behind me. "Am I scaring you, Hun?" My breath hitched as he used his fingers to caress my cheek.  "N-no....A-akashi-san...." "Takeomi" he corrected me. He whispers the next thing in my ear, "You know, it really makes me sad when my favorite little eye candy doesn't show herself anymore."  I stammer nonsense, unable to process what he is saying. He moves back and laughs in a hearty way. "Your expression is priceless, doll! As if you just had a prince swoop you off your feet." he taped his ice-cold water bottle against my hot forehead. "Do me a favor and stay this pure. I would hate to see a guy ruin that for you." then he slowly walks away. "And don't be shy. Shoe yourself again once in a while. Senju thinks you hate her." My eyes widen, and I can't help but feel bad. Poor Senju. I don't hate her.....I just.....I can't be around her brother. Its torture. Knowing he is just teasing me. Knowing he isn't serious. It breaks me. I end up buying nothing and burying myself in my bed that night.

About 3 weeks later is Senju´s birthday, and when she asks me if I would stay at her house for a sleepover, I am about to tell her no. Then she tells me nobody else wants to come. She looks close to tears. I couldn't say no. impossible. So I agreed.

On the night of her birthday, it is mostly just us two. We go the full 9 yards. Facemasks, nail polish, talking about boys (obv I don't mention that I like her brother), and cheesy Romance movies. We are in our PJs and sit in front of the TV in the living room. I am having so much fun. I am finally relaxed and could just be me. Then the front door opens. Takeomi comes inside with a cake from the convenience store. He is wearing a white tank top and gray sweatpants. His cigarette in his lips as he enters. "nii-san! Finally! You are so late!" Senju is extremely hyper and happy. She takes the cake and walks to the kitchen. Takeomi´s eyes lay on me, and he gives me a mocking whistle. "Meow~" he says, "looking sharp." My cheeks turn pink, and I pull the shorts just a tiny bit further down. He laughs again. He is such a jerk. After we all have cake and talk for a bit, me and Senju move to her bedroom. Not too long after, we go to bed. I just couldn't sleep. While she is deep asleep and snoring, I am tossing and turning. I check the time. 2:00am. Shit. I decided to go and grab a drink. I stand up and walk over to the kitchen. Takeomi is in the living room, spread out on the sofa, smoking as always and watching TV. He gives me a wave and a smirk. I blush but try to ignore him. I take a confident step to the open kitchen and grab a bottle of water.

"You really are nothing for sore eyes, doll. I could look at you all day." I flinch. He is right behind me, speaking directly into my ear. One of his hands on my hip, thumb drawing circles around my midriff, while his other flat against the fridge door next to my head. My breath is stuck in my throat. "U-u-uhm, eh..." I stammer again. My cheeks are a bright red. "You are way too cute...I could just eat you up..." His lips touch my ear, gliding to my jaw, and he gives me some feather-light kisses. I feel a shiver down my spine, goosebumps all over my body. He straightens his body, now both his hands on my hips. He is trembling. 

He pulls away. I lean against the fridge and pant, looking back at him in shock. My whole body burns. "Sorry. I went too far with my joke." he chuckles and walks over to his door. "Have a good night, doll." He opens his door and walks into his room, closing the door behind him. I sink to my knees and shake. I pant and ring for air. I cup my cheeks and try to calm down. What the heck was that?! That kind of joke is all it is... He keeps playing with my feelings just to get a reaction out of me! It's so cruel! I couldn't handle this torture anymore. Something needs to happen. I don't even remember how I raised to my feet. I stamp over to his door and rip it open. He stands there shocked, without a shirt. I am shaking. She has her clothes custom made bc of her small size yet larger chest, hard to find clothes that will fit her (Im talking abt this like its in my counties fitting, which prolly wouldn't provide adult sizes big enough for Chuuya).

4.as i said before shorter then male chuuya, shes thin but not so thin that its like she doesnt have organs😭, She has a larger butt then Dazai, because unlike dazai she works out at the gym yk bc shes like the main ass kicker in the mafia, bc chuuya mostly fights with her legs squats are what both female and male chuuya would do to insure flexibility and other muscle stuff😭 and squats tend to give you a bigger butt, and as i said before larger boobs so Im going to say D-E or maybe E-F.

meta knight is absolutely pathetic and incredibly down bad for dedede this manga. its adorable. multiple people ive talked to or seen have come to the conclusion it seems like he has a huge crush on him. a quick brief for those who dont know but this mangas meta is admittedly Veryyyyy different from how you'd expect a meta knight to be. uncharacteristically friendly and cheerful and. pathetic is really the best word for it. hes kinda a loser. incredibly protective of dedede, he switches between two modes of fussing over him quite a bit and semi-often going into incredible rage bloodlust modes over protecting him or his image (youll see a good amount of jp fanwork depict this version of him as a yandere for that reason)

theres also been more than one occasion where meta knight tries to commit seppuku upon accidently doing something he sees as unforgivable towards his king (its in the chapter i just screenshotted above too, another time he broke dededes clock and freaked out about it). i-. dont consider this a cute ship thing for the record im just stating it to emphasize the extent of metas obsession towards dedede this manga. the mans got Problems...

apart from that, also quite differing from most interpretations of both of them, both of them seem to genuinely really like spending time around each other all the time. it comes off as casually domestic and is very cute...

regardless of my attempts to brief it, i dont feel like im explaining this very well so lemme just show you a frankly ridiculous amount of reasons for why i keep feeling like this mangaka ships metadede

dedede loses his memories from getting hit in the head too hard. the gang figures out that beating dedede up or otherwise causing him injury causes him to regain some of them back though, to which kirby attempts to harm him with increasingly violent means, much to meta knights horror. mk spends the entire chapter trying to protect dedede from him, and it doesnt work obviously, but after a particularly hard hit dedede remembers everyone again... except for meta knight. to which meta knight gets upset about and lets kirby lay into dedede for real. you see where people get the yandere personality from now right. i dont recall this trait coming out too often but ill talk more about it later

-the whole chapter thats a cinderella retelling with dedede and meta knight. also also self explanatory COME ON LOOK AT THIS ONE. LOOK AT IT.

(viewing it with a shipping lens just for this post ofc) while meta is the more active crusher, some of the stuff above seems to imply that dedede has feelings in return as well :') they just get along really well too its great. theres a different chapter where they perform as a comedy duo. theyve done plays in multiple chapters. its my hc for these versions of them that they love doing performances of all kinds together and do a lot of rehearsals and writing in their free time...

and the yandere stuff i feel like i should address as well. i try not to take some aspects Too seriously because its to be expected things are over emphasized for the sake of the joke with gag mangas. but oh man the man definitely has problems. he needs therapy. i tried to be transparent in listing those aspects as well so people can make their own conclusions on it But theres one more thing id like to mention regarding that

meta knights personality has been shifting to be different from what i listed, as of the most recent volume. my beloved forgotten land arc... a first for this series in that, while the chapters still retain their gag humor and dont take themselves that seriously, its a serialized story that mostly follows along with the game plot that lasts nearly the whole volume (as opposed to other game arcs in this manga being episodic stories, using the games as their theme rather than a full on setting). with the more serious tone of the serialized story, theres a frankly startling hint of character development i never wouldve expected from a gag manga at the end of it

kirby gets ko'd the first round of the meta knight cup so meta knight joins the meta knight cup instead. turns out when he does that the final boss of the cup is dedede. meta knight Really doesnt want to hurt dedede and so dedede promptly kicks his ass without a second thought and wins the tournament. while the crowd cheers for dedede's victory, meta and dedede have a small talk where dedede tells him he doesnt need to fuss so much about hurting him/him getting hurt. presumably this is supposed to mark the end of meta knights intense overprotectiveness because (its never been clear-cut due to the nature of the manga previously, so its a lil hard to say) dededes shown he can handle himself, or like, isnt some fragile thing. i really hope itll stick around because i think its a great addition to both of their characters. the meta-knights have also been appearing way more frequently as of very recent chapters (ones that havent been compiled into a volume yet) which seem to also hint to meta knight getting more independence to his character from dedede's loyal servant. im very excited to see where it goes :D

and like, last last disclaimer if anyone needed it; even tho i love metadede and i like to see things through ship glasses sometimes i absolutely try my best to keep my biases out of my translations. putting out accurate translations means a lot to me! this entire post is me purposely putting the ship glasses on so please dont take it as "omg metadede is canon in this manga". you know way back when i was the only active translator for this manga someone tweeted at the mangaka on twitter mentioning that there were english translations around and he replied to that person. didnt respond to the fan translation thing specifically but the fact that he could know who i am definitely kinda terrifies me. if anyone goes around saying that his manga is the metadede manga because of me and he even has the slightest sliver of a chance of seeing that i will kill yall fr LOL

i was RIGHT about louis being enamored with the royal family in some way and having a buttfuck ton of the royal family flowers in his room in his airship. i think this plot point is now heavily hinted at but currently discarded due to development/writing hell. i think louis probably followed hythlodaeus v out of the sanctum in extreme admiration. he has a lot of similarities with More in that they both had reality + lonliness crushed into their faces. his current self in the game is driven by despair and fear.

this is interesting bc theres actually also a lot of allusion to japanese pre-ww2 history going on from my admittedly very limited knowledge. so here goes:

There's a lot about Louis that reminds me of the whole shitshow going down during the Meiji era up until ww2. the gist of this past 200 odd years was that the western world came in knocking with christianity as a tool for colonization. which was understandably yikes, so they shut themselves off, only to then get another visitation later with pretty intimidating technology in the form of iron steamships with cannons. gunboat diplomacy. this meant that a previously imperialistic japanese society build on conquering had to react/adapt to this drastic force like fucking whiplash.

so they pretty much went from pro-military samurai shogunate to pro-emperor. the gist is there was a very pro-emperor-god-king rhetoric going on that sought to rid anything inconvenient towards that narrative. to keep people in line yes but to also get japan big and powerful enough to sit with the same western colonial powers.

so in place of the old caste system under the shogun, there eventually were now oligarchies, far right military factions etc under the emperor. only something like the top 5% of the population had a say in this new democracy system they set up too. (it got way more democratic in the 1930s? not sure. but what im saying here is 1860s-1900 ish at least)

so things were going. for a while. messy, full of 'expel the foreigners, revere the emperor' rhetoric but it was going.

then more depression happened and the overall economy went to shit in 1900. that era leading up to ww2 had a lot of young men in Japan being extremely nationalist and pro military, in part due to a whiplash of culture change and in other due to poverty. (ive come across the topic of white rice being offered for those who conscript. white rice was seen as the emperor's luxury food so that was somewhat of a draw to young men back then.) There were a lot of far right political factions and assassinations going on. international relations were also imploding bc the military had this idea that japan was the superior divine race and they were destined to conquer the world/asia. so they did some sabotaging false flag operation shit in manchuria in order to try and start a world war. (Mukden incident. 1931)

Which is then not a surprise that in 1932 a prime minister by the name of Inukai Tsuyoshi got assassinated by a bunch of far right pro military guys in their 20s. They were even then praised by the judge bc of their act being seen as pro-emperor and therefore patriotic. Bc again emperor god king delusion.

(read up on the League of Blood incident where these people also plotted to kill the oligarchs and liberal politicians. they uh actually succeeded in some cases btw. look, too much shit.)

meanwhile, the emperor, Hirohito, wanted peace, wanted better foreign international relations and relayed his desires to the same Inukai Tsuyoshi, but the military was going out of control. (and Inukai got assassinated so the position of prime minister is now Not Safe.) so out control they eventually became beyond any civilian/state control and bam ww2. pearl harbor and all that stuff.

(i havent read up on what kind of person hirohito actually is so ill refrain on commenting on his character. but in terms of actual power over his country hes VERY Hythlodaeus V in metaphor)

so while there isnt an organized religion in the form of a church, there is absolutely an element of religious and military fanaticism in that era.

So Louis has a lot of this vibes going on. He was also a young military boy. Is young probly in his 20s. Has a lot of royal flowers in his skyrunner that points towards this royal family worshiping thing. Seized control of a military faction that went completely out of control from the state. Is of some 'pure blood' race if his elda bloodline is any indication. Murdered the pro-equality but failed figure head bc he did not live up to Louis' expectations and was responsible for a lot of failures in the state policy. started a false flag operation that resulted in people dying and forced to leave an area.

also, did i mention lowkey eugenics? yeah that same imperial military was big on this too. the strong will survive the weak will be culled etc etc.

Meanwhile the mc gels well with the benevolent emperor narrative that is popular in JP media even today. I think it could be some indicator of how the general japanese feels towards the royal family, since supposedly an emperor is sworn to an oath of leading with valor, wisdom and benevolence. These are also represented by 3 regalia, a sword, a mirror and a jewel, presented during the official coronation ceremony.

The regalias might be treasures from different tribes originally, at least that's what some scholars think.

So I won't be surprised if the Drakodilos lance ends up being a part of the imperial treasure thing after the mutsari tribe gets protected under law. the mustaris here are the aforementioned 'different tribes' thing.

in fact, more on this topic with the mustaris. these people arent just random tribal people, to me they are more south/south east asian people. their biome is jungle island like, which means polynesian, and places like philippines, vietnam, thailand, indonesia etc.

the brown/tan skin is found in a lot of SEAsians, and the third eye is too a popular asian mysticism thing. it is especially prevalent in hinduism and buddhism. the idea is that a 3rd eye means enlightenment, or at least the ability to perceive the unperceivable.

if we subsitute sanctism with shinto, then theres some parallels here to be had with whats going on at the time too. bc the funny thing im seeing here is, shinto is sanctism, and mustari's religion has big buddhsim vibes without the name.

(that mustari arc boss looks like a twisted banged up buddha/boddhisattva what with the prayer position and multi arms thing going on)

in that pre-ww2 time period, shinto buddhism was going through a split and defining in order to prop up the emperor god king narrative. this process meant suppressing elements of buddhism. wont get into the reeds of this, but know that buddhism originated in india in a response against the hindu caste system. so in a way, a 'foreign' religon.

now, there is absolutely a thing going on here where Me:Re can come off as inherently pro-emperor and even a little pro-japanese nationalist, what with the whole 1 nation of vaguely SEAsians under a (japanese written) king thing. frankly, as a SEAsian this is gross but nothing surprising considering how hard Me:Re feels like an echo of pre ww2 jp politics. and also how jp media tends to be with topics surrounding this. im iffy on the japanese nationalist part, bc the needle is definitely moving in terms of racism/colorism today, and in the game lacks certain elements for me to see it as a big red flag.

that said, i wont immediately napalm the intentions behind this game to the ground. this game has got excellent commentary on racism and some stuff about policies. its got nuance. it is even a criticism against how the old japanese empire tried to go about doing things. it is open to the idea of democracy and even seems to say that politics arent perfect and can fail but its better to try than not at all.

this is far more valuable than blatant doomerism imo.

all this is why in the final segment, we fight More in the middle of shibuya scramble. this isnt just meta for the sake of meta, its allusion to their history specifically. this game is NOT so much a criticism about organized religion as it is about governance in relation to its people. this game is talking about politics without specific policies.

i can respect that despite all the major ick i might have.

this is why despite saying oppression is bad, it doesn't have any queer representation because it's leaning towards a conservative pro emperor ideology on the overall spectrum. Queerness is not part of that century old conversation at all in this context so take this as you will.

(personally the fact that queerness is not even remotely touched on means the overall thoughts on opression hasnt radically changed. Personally, this, specifically, sucks. Bc this means this narrative feels like it could've been easily released even 20 years ago and brought the exact same challenge to the table but ymmv. I suppose this is why people have been saying the game reminds them of old jrpgs.)

Chapter 48 Speculation Posting

Hello, dear void, and welcome to The Hype Building Chapter.

So Chihiro and Hakuri are collecting all the bearers before returning to Kamunabi HQ- hope that doesn't get derailed (sorry). TRAIN FIGHT INCOMING THOUGH! YEAH!

I love train fights! Chihiro's facing off against a snazzy-looking Hishaku guy and it's gonna be epic. I hope we get the full treatment of starting inside, moving to the top, ducking under bridges, decoupling cars- the works. With the current pace, I think we'll get through it and arrive at Senkutusu Temple by the end of the next chapter. What will be waiting for the crew there...? It's the location that probably houses the girlish-looking Bearer, but who knows.

OK, OK, before I get pilloried for trying to guess the associations despite completely whiffing on where Uruha would be, I think I got it this time. Sushi Chef has got to be at the sushi restaurant. If he isn't I'll... I don't know, yeet my PC off the nearest bridge or something. So that leaves two locations: Senkutsu Temple and Kuentaisha Shrine. I think Eye Scars is at Kuentaisha Shrine mostly because the name contains the kanji 煙 (en), which is specifically for smoke, tobacco, haze, and ash; and both times we've seen him, he's been smoking. So with the other three locations accounted for, that would leave Girl Bearer for the next stop at Senkutsu Temple. That's my theory! It sucks! But I'm rolling with it anyway!

But before we get there, Chihiro's gotta deal with this prettyboy:

Why you got those dots under your eyes like Shiyumi, man? And why did the official TL mistranslate your name to "Hirohiko"?

And we even got this guys' name! (Wow, really spoiling us with the names lately, Hokazono-sensei.) Our villain this time is Hiruhiko (昼彦), meaning "noon boy" in a literal sense. 昼 (hiru) can be chosen to express the importance of being decisive and/or appreciating the joy of life. 彦 (hiko) is exclusively for male names and has multiple connotations- virtuosity, honor, respectability, being of good character... lmao. Wiping out Uruha's buddies and lugging their corpses for a few kilometers to bait him definitely fits the bill for that description, yup. This won't be the only fight between them- a named character is not going to go down in a single skirmish (probably). But hopefully Goldfish Batman can get a few good hits in for Bandana guy and the rest. Fuck 'im up, Chihiro.

"But wait, didn't the Anti-Kuregumo squad go down in one fight over thirty chapters ago?" you didn't ask. Why yes, they did. Isn't it strange that they break the rule of Hokazono-sensei not giving names to fodder and one-off characters?

Gone but perhaps not totally forgotten? Missing: Makoto Kasahara (big hand guy with the stripe over his nose- he was out scouting).

Out of all these guys, Kazane is the only one with a real shot of being relevant again since he's alive and in mostly one piece. But we got full names for every member of the squad despite being stuck using fan nick names for important characters like Ice Lady. What gives? Were they named just for the shock value upon death? Plausibly! But now that we have Ice Lady, Braid Bro, Sazasis, Bandana-kun and more, these guys stick out as an exception.

I think that maybe we could get into sorcery clans as the mysteries surrounding the Hishaku are revealed. Because if I'm right about them being a defeated faction, it would make sense for them to have ties to clans with special abilities and powers like the Sazanamis. Sorcery is inherited, after all, and the Sazanamis aren't the only ones who would build a clan around those powers if they were useful enough.

The Sazanami name was, at best, an indirect reference to the nature of Isou and their clan legacy. I will not be putting much stock into the clan names and how they tie into members' abilities- my Japanese isn't good enough for that, and I don't have access to the raws to confirm what kanji were used for ability names anyway. But I think there are enough physical similarities between one set of characters in particular that illustrate what I mean about clans being tied to or split between sides.

Behold my awful MS Paint skills:

Common traits: extremely short, stocky men with masks over their face (mouth in particular). We've seen Kiyohiko as a member of the task force, an unnamed Kamunabi higher-up that watched Chihiro's interrogation, and one of Uruha's guards at the hotsprings. The repeated mask and stature combination seems like a deliberate design choice at least.

And then there's this shot of the datenseki-empowered onsen invaders:

The guy with the long braid in the middle looks an awful lot like Ikuto, doesn't he? A smidge suspicious in a series that goes out of it's way to kill off uniquely designed characters without any fanfare.

There's also some of the datenseki aura wisps looking like Kuregumo's dragon smoke effect...

Rest in piss, Sojo.

The last time we saw datenseki in use, Tenri's spirit energy manifested as a jellyfish (ch. 33). Why is it indistinct smoke for these guys- is it because they probably aren't elite sorcerers? Are the datenseki provided by Sojo different than the one Tenri used somehow? Also, there's a limited number of these datenseki according to Chihiro... but we can presume that more can and will be made... Sojo is still gonna haunt the narrative though his deadly space rocks, I guess. I'm fine with this if it means he's never resurrected.

I think the designs for the characters and the smoke effects are artistic limitations first and foremost, but I can't completely let go of the "what if" nagging in the back of my head. It's too early in the series to see if this is subtle foreshadowing or just grasping at straws, so I won't hold on tight to this pet theory like I am with the Hishaku one. The only other scenario that's come close is the hinting about Hakuri's real talents (praying mantis imagery, first Isou misfire with his eye still becoming distorted, surviving the Enkotsu hit point-blank, the silhouette of the first patriarch sporting a mirrored version of Hakuri's hair style, Soya's tools disappearing, maybe his name if you read into that kind of stuff).

Oh yeah. We got another name this chapter: Yura (幽). 幽 means (to) seclude, subtle, confinement, tranquil, and/or dark. Spoopy. The connotations as a name are what one one would expect: profundity, having a mysterious presence, subtlety, so on and so forth. 幽 is usually read as yuu (the other reading is kasu), so if it turns out to be a code name of some kind, I wouldn't be surprised. For now, whether or not Yura is actually the Hishaku leader is unclear. It's too late for Hokazono-sensei to give us his name though- the Western fanbase has already dubbed him "John", which shall be his name forevermore.

Other than that, lots of Uruha hooray! He is a perfect blend of ridiculous and badass (sensing a trend with friendly characters that meet Chihiro, hmm...).

His conversation with Chihiro was so bittersweet...

He really, truly cared about Kunishige the man instead of Kunishige the war hero. And Chihiro's expression... oh, my heart. I really appreciate these little reminders that Chihiro's still struggling with grief on top of his father's burdensome legacy. To be told he's the spitting image of his beloved dad after so many people doubted him clearly meant a great deal.

Uruha's raised a flag for teaching Hakuri how to value his own life too, just like I was hoping:

Boy who has trouble valuing himself notices someone correctly assessing their own worth by refusing to take the bait that he would have fallen for. Hm.

I cut out the speculative yapfest because honestly, it's just one potential thread out of many. It might not even go anywhere at all. But if I want to indulge myself, I guess I can put it like this: Uruha is a very strong Hakuri parallel in both demeanor and situation. If it was just the first one, I wouldn't be investing in Hakuri character development stocks this arc. But now I will do so cautiously- and hope Uruha doesn't get buried under a mountain of death flags.

For now, we wait to see how Chihiro's second fight against a Hishaku member goes. Thank you, dear void, for letting me ramble once more.

Conclusion: it was okay. There were parts I genuinely liked. There are things that also bug me to no end. The soundtrack from the original series would’ve fit way better and a lot of times it sounded like an off brand marvel track. Acting and cgi was a lot better (at times.) An improvement on the first one, and a semi-worthwhile watch if you have nothing else to do and you like fma. Cannot and will never be a substitute for the original obviously. Seems like less of a cash grab and more of a genuine effort this time which I appreciate. Overall? 6.5/10

stray kids as...my loved ones

author's note: it's been a while since i've posted and im not sure how how many new lovies have joined since i lowkey ghosted everyone! but in case you guys didn't know, i have the sweetest, silliest stay family (we all went to the stray kids concert together in melbs). and i feel like my love for them and their personalities really correspond to certain members, especially through our relationships. i've been wanting to make a post like this for a while and here it finally is! enjoy x

my mum as lee minho

like minho, my mum is quite introverted, but very giggly and talkative when she's with our family and her few close friends. she's selective about who she shows this side of her personality to, and it just makes it more special for those (like me) who get to see it daily

when watching the skz two kids room, mum said that jisung and minho's friendship is a lot like our relationship (SOBBING). whilst im loud and a certified yapper, my mum is still my quiet, safe space and a place where i can just calm myself down and lower my energy

we're also both on the adhd spectrum which i majorly see for them lols

she loves to cook, and acts of service are her way of showing her love. she grew up in a japanese household, and culturally you don't show as much affection, but she's learning. and im a major physical touch girlie, and ive seen her try to teach herself to love me that way. basically the best mum ever

oh, and she ADORES cats!

she's also lowkey like a mum of skz, kinda like minho is, but from a distance obvs. she treats them all like her sons, she has a picture of them on our fridge, photocard in her phone, listens to skz lofi whilst working. she supports them in every way and always gets so excited about their achievements.

essentially, she's a very calming, but at times chaotic presence, and im so lucky to have her. she's the perfect person to balance me out.

he's so silly. unlike changbin he's actually super tall (muahaha) but changbin is def musclier. so.

like changbin, my dad is a major girl group stan. for his birthday last year, he literally bought us twice tickets and when i tell you he knew EVERY lyric! he also has a love for every girl group choreo ever, with a penchant for newjeans' hype boy (cough CHANGBIN)

again, above all, he's just a very sweet, silly guy. he's very dependable, and he and i will often work on house projects together, whether it be painting or building furniture or making him help me rearrange my bedroom. with twice blasting in the background, it's gonna get done and it's gonna get done WELL

he's very accepting and listens when i yap, or when im confused about things. him and mum have that balance of giving me very down to earth advice, but also silly jokes and comments

and yes i am interacting with this franchise in the order of release. no it's not convenient in the slightest. yes even the simplest of interaction with this franchise takes me hours because i need to find some niche hyperspecific work sheet from the 70's or some bullshit like that

on pixiv in the sabosan tag (サボサン) the oldest works on there is from 2015. (i mean when u look up サボサン you get this cactus mascot which is p hilarious)

i theorize that sabosan became recognized because of zou/wci. bc thats when we learn about sanji's history. i notice that it seem to be more recognized by a few fans as early as 2016 (when wci started)

so those big brained individuals were onto something then. they saw two blonde characters that shared similar histories and went. "wait a minute. i can cook something with this"

and you know what sanji's good at? taking any ingredients and making something amazing out of it. thats what early sabosan fans did

there are Very Little content of them/i cant read japanese and i just mostly find the cactus mascot, but they were there. at Least as early as sabo's return. and at that time, fans did not receive sanji's past. they just took these guys like barbie dolls and made them kiss... anyway i need them to meet and i want to see the longtime fans react as theyve waited nearly a decade for that very moment

okay i dug a little more and found another sabosan fan! at first i was unsure as they could be talking about another user or a cactus or something. but as it turns out, they are indeed a sabosan fan! they've said things like "i wish sabosan was more popular"/"i wish for sabosan" and this is dated back in 2016! plus one of my favorite posts (translated into deepL as i had a feeling that twt had butchered the translation and...)

they get it. they got it. as i mentioned earlier, the fans definitely knew what was up when wci happened. THEY WERE COOKING BACK IN 2016!!! which... i believe i should now start digging as early as i can. maybe for zou or dressrosa years!! bc certainly, this pairing was actually talked about during 2016-2017. it was wonderful to see!

oh my goodness... i decided to look from start of 2015 to the end, and so far in late 2015, the same user from the above translation, has been talking about them still! they mentioned sabosan fanworks, and how they read a heartbreaking fic⁉️⁉️ i cant tell you how happy i was to read that. sabosan being a thing and having angst works, even if i can't read them. (never mess with one piece fans, especially if they are fujoshi !! they'll find their ways. im honestly fascinated. i love fandom history if you couldnt tell by this post!)

plus, some fans calling themselves delusional for thinking of this pairing... if only i could be there with you, longtime fan.

i think my investigation into sabosan history ends here after a long post and hours of searching... unless i somehow find something earlier than april 2014, the earliest moment that sabosan was first talked about was in the year 2014. Q2 2014. back when dressrosa was still ongoing. do you know how insane that is? before wci.

i think we can come to a conclusion that sabosan was a concept as early as 2014 was all becaude of acesan. thats the pattern i noticed. ace/acesan was often mentioned. and i believe it's bc not only are ace and sabo brothers, but bc sabo aimed to eat the mera mera no mi. and if sanji were to meet sabo, sanji would be reminded of his late lover, ace. and the angst potential is so real... sanji looking at sabo... just as a replacement for ace? ouch

i know the fans were having a field day when they learned about sanji's blood family :']
