Am I the only one who thinks 2003’s ending for Alphonse has got more sense than Brotherhood’s? To me, it makes so much more sense to see Alphonse still being 10. I never liked how in Brotherhood he’s grown up. I mean, why should a soul grow up, after all?

I can understand it’s a satisfying solution because the brothers are reunited like if nothing ever happened. Still, I suppose I’m fond of the bittersweet ending of 2003 much more when it comes to Alphonse and my only complaint is…I wanted more???? I wanted to see him being found again, everyone crying over him and hugging him (MY BBY💕💕💕💕).

I also believe we sleep too much on the fact Winry has become an older sister to him in the true sense of the word, taking care of him and worrying about him leaving for his journey to study alchemy. THEY ARE SO PRECIOUS. I like Alwin, personally, but them becoming sibilings by making Winry take Ed’s role now that he’s…Absent makes my heart disintegrate.

That was what I needed… A remake of Shamballa with more focus on post 2003 Alphonse. 2003 Winry is constantly struggling with being left aside by the two brothers, being kept at a certain distance, so I can only imagine what she feels like when she has to let Al go, right now that she finally gets to play an important role in one of the Elrics’ life.

Gintama has had a huge impact on my taste in media, my sense of humour, and just about every aspect of my life, including the fact that i admitted to myself that i was genderweird and the fact that i use tumblr at all is because of gintama. MPW Ep 3 Subtitle Corrections

EP 1 || EP 2 Cultural/Language Tidbits: EP 2

Same translation disclaimer applies. Thanks again for indulging my crazy long t/n, please keep geeking out with me in the notes!

We've got a change of director this episode - to Funabiki Shinju (twitter linked here) who was the scriptwriter for Jack Frost. This date is also a drama-only episode and does not appear in the manga. So, we have quite a few ad-libs here! I'll point out these out, as well as any interesting comments by the director and the producer from the Ep 3 twitter space as we go on. (Due to tumblr's image space limitations, some of these scenes will have no pics, just a description)

Ep 3, let's go! (If you read nothing in this post, please just read Yoh's monologue)

Since this is the theme of this episode, and Yoh's favourite word, let's talk a little more about it. I've mentioned it previously, but both "嫌い (kirai)" and "大嫌い (dai kirai)" are often translated as "hate/really hate", when they really function more as the opposite of "(suki)", ie "to like". That said, the amount of emotional weight this word carries depends on the context. It can accurately convey the pain/anger of hating someone, but it can also be used very mildly. For eg, it's often used by kids in the "I hate homework/vegetables/the rain/etc" form, or by teens/young adults in the "I don't want everyone to hate me" form, as opposed to other synonyms. When introducing yourself/getting to know someone, it's not uncommon to be asked "what are your suki/kirai?"

In other words, overuse of this word can actually come off as slightly childish, because kids/young people are usually the ones using this word to reject small things/express themselves. Yoh's constant insistence that he hates Segasaki pretty much sounds like this - which is why Man-san expresses doubt about it, and why when Segasaki repeats this line back to Yoh, Yoh understands that Segasaki is teasing him. (The word "love" is considered too heavy and precious of a concept to be thrown around easily, so "suki" is the default go to even in committed relationships.)

Y: 相変わらずすごいよ、この人の外面モード。 Y: As always, this person's "public mode" is amazing.

"外面 (soto zura)" literally refers to the "outside face", and when used to describe a person means someone who puts up a certain personality/attitude depending on who they're speaking to/the situation.

The reason Yoh's saying this is because Segasaki is speaking to him in a much nicer way than he usually does at home 🤣He's using plain forms yes, but he's also praising him and smiling at him and actually saying a whole, proper sentence as opposed to the one-word sickness he has at home🤣 This is most obvious right before Segasaki leaves, when he warns Yoh to be careful when drawing other people - he says "気をつけて��~ (ki o tsukete ne~)", ending with a ne~ which is sweet and cute and which he almost never does with Yoh at home 🤣🤣

Twitter Space Note (TSN): They decided that since they finally got to shoot an "outdoor scene" for Yoh, they'd try to make him look a little more fashionable with a shirt instead of a hoodie 🤣

Y: いってらっしゃい Y: Itterasshai - this is a standard greeting that you say when someone is leaving the house (or the office, if they're going out on a business errand). Basically, the one leaving says "ittekimasu" and the one staying behind says "itterasshai". They mean "(I'll) go and come back/Go safely and return well" When returning, you say "tadaima" and the one welcoming you back says "okaerinasai" meaning: "(I have) just now (returned)/ (you have) returned safely". Unlike Yoh, Segasaki does none of these standard greetings (which Yoh complained about in Ep 1 whilst chopping onions).

Y: だからね、���持ちが通じ合った*っていう描写が必要だと思うんだよおれは Y: だからこそ、体が盛り上がる**、的な？ M: はーん。中高生処女みたいなこといってろ Original: Y: That's why I think it's necessary to depict the feeling of "mutual understanding" Y: That's how the physical aspect also gets exciting... or something like that? M: Hmm.. talking about it like a high school virgin, huh? Mine: Y: So that's why, I think it's important - showing that (the characters') have this unspoken understanding* of each other's feelings. Y: It's precisely because of that, that you get physically excited** - something like that? M: Mm.... you're saying things a high-school virgin would say **体が盛り上がる - literally, "the body gets excited/heated up/lively etc" - given that they are talking about erotica, he probably means physically aroused here, but this term also works to explain the feeling of excitement or emotion just swelling in your chest for eg *通じ合った - is not just "mutual understanding" - it specifically refers to a situation in which both parties understand each other without having to say a word - like when you look at someone and just get them, or like in sports, you just look at your team mate and you know.

This is an important distinction because in this line, Yoh again emphasizes "I" - at the end of the sentence he ends off with the pronoun "俺 (ore)" marked by the subject particle "は (wa)" - which means that in this sentence Yoh is emphasizing that this is his opinion - that he himself thinks it's important to show that 2 people simply get each other, because that's exactly what translates to that sensation you feel in your body. This is what Yoh wants - he wants to understand Segasaki, and he wants Segasaki to understand him, without them having to actually say anything. Which at the moment, only Segasaki is achieving, ironically.

[ Man-san's dialogue, where she says "a sex scene follows]

TSN: Man-san actually only says “se-“ here, and then mutes herself (because they’re in public). In the script, it was supposed to be the full “sex” word, but they weren't sure whether it would be ok (it's not clear whether they mean ok for the actress to say this or ok for the show in general) so in the end it became "se-". Yes it's an odd place to be concerned about given the whole Ep2 but #Japan

Again, the word here used is “kirai” but translated as “dislike” instead of hate 😉

TSN: Between this scene and the start of the next scene, they praised how Acchan uses his eyes to convey Yoh's dejection and how he expresses Yoh's emotions very sensitively through his gaze (and I agree!)

TSN: The director mentioned that she had thought it would look good if Segasaki to put his hand up like this on the ceiling partition, but the moment Kouhei walked in, he just did it naturally without her having to say anything, and so she was really amazed.

S: じゃ、出かけるぞ (Jya, dekakeru zo) S: Then, we’re going out.

“Let’s go out” would be more of "じゃ、でかけましょう (Jya, dekakemashou)" – by using the ending form “(-ma)shou”, the listener is included in the action of going out as an equal to the speaker, the same way “let’s” is used in English. It is by far the most common way Japanese people make a statement without trying to sound too overbearing. But here, Segasaki once again demonstrates his habit of simply stating what they’re going to do, and speaking for Yoh. The sentence-final particle “zo” at the end of his sentence is an assertive one that doesn’t leave much room for argument.

TSN: Again they talked about how they emphasised to Acchan to do the housework improperly, since Yoh isn't supposed to be good at it. Also, when Yoh thinks, "what's with this, all of a sudden?", the director asked that he move his hands "more" as he folded the clothes, like he was still happy to be asked out.

Y: デート自体ないんだよ Y: I’ve never even been on a date.

Y: 俺、いま一体何してんだろう Y: What am I even doing right now?

Yoh’s not wondering what they’re doing, he’s questioning his own actions, like "why am I even here, doing this, what am I supposed to do" etc, because you know, he's never even been on a date before and he has no clue whether this actually is one.

[The scene with the 2 of them on the bench, and Segasaki asks Yoh what he'd like to eat]

TSN: The script only went up to Yoh answering that he wanted to eat “Chinese food”, and this whole bit afterward just happened naturally when they let the camera run.

Yoh says “たっか(taka)!” which is short for “高い(takai)” aka “expensive!” but his voice is so cute here I’m dying. (It really is bloody expensive, these things are usually anywhere between 180 yen – 300 yen pre-pandemic. Even with the big one they have here, I don’t think anyone would sell this above 500 yen)

TSN: They said they searched for a 1200 yen steamed pork bun but couldn’t find one, and in actuality the store sells them at a really reasonable price, so to please go give it a try 🤣🤣

TSN: This scene, as well as them walking along they alley way looking at the shops, was mostly ad-libbed (which is probably why we see Acchan smiling so much here hahaha I’m guessing the question about which he liked better was probably an adlib, which surprised Acchan). For the alleyway, they were told that their conversation was not going to be used, so they were quite relaxed (and that explains the audio fade out lol)

[The scene of them drinking Boba/Bubble Tea]

About Gyaru - when Boba/Bubble Tea first came to Japan, it became pretty popular amongst Gyaru, and quickly became associated with Gyaru culture - hence why they both felt it was something only Gyaru drank. It's similar to the idea that only ladies eat sweets/desserts that was briefly mentioned in OFC (which makes Nozue feel awkward about 2 men eating cake in a dessert cafe) - here they mean they both felt too embarrassed to try Boba out before due to the idea that it's a "Gyaru" drink (and I love how Yoh looks at Segasaki then, like he only just realises that even Segasaki might get embarrassed/feel awkward sometimes).

S: 乗るぞ (noru zo)

Again, this is “we’re riding it” instead of “let’s”.

Y: 思ったよりすごく透明で Y: (The cabin) is more transparent than I thought

The floor of the cabin is actually clear, so you can see right down through to the bottom, which is why Yoh is a little freaked out here. Not because he thought glass wasn’t transparent.

TSN: Acchan is also afraid of heights, so the stiffness you see here is real, he really didn’t like it, but they went 4 rounds in total to finish this scene. (Kouhei apparently was fine and enjoyed looking right through the glass, though I can’t remember which interview this was mentioned in, sorry!)

S: ほら S: See?

ほら (hora) is commonly used to draw the listener’s attention to something, so here Segasaki really just means “look (I was right)”

TSN: They apparently redid the scene where Segasaki dismisses the store attendant many times so they could make sure it was done in a way that looked natural and wouldn’t be off-putting.

We’re back to one of Segasaki’s humming sounds – the “hmm…?” here again conveys the “oh, really/is that so?” sort of lazy drawl that can easily be mistaken as Segasaki being bored – which is why Yoh immediately suggests they go do their own thing.

Y: そっちも、好きなところいっていいから Y: You too, it’s okay (if you go) to the places you like so…

Yoh uses “そっち” here to refer to Segasaki - which literally means “your/that side” and is another way in which Yoh avoids addressing Segasaki directly (remember, in Japan we don’t like being direct, and “you” is sometimes too direct).

Fun fact: Depending on which part of Japan you’re in, this can either be seen as a totally normal way of speaking, or it might annoy you a little to be referred to as if you were an object/place, or you might feel like the speaker was treating you a little like an “outsider”. The divide in opinion seems to be somewhere between the northeast regions, and the western regions. Tokyo and the rest of the Kantou region (where the show is based, judging by the lack of an obvious accent) are sort of 50-50.

Y: もしあれ*だったら、あ、あの、こっちはこっちで、好きにやってるし Original: Y: Ah, if you want to. Well… we’re both doing our own things… Mine: Y: If (you feel) that way*, then, ah, umm, I can… do as I like, by myself too...

*that way - this refers to that sort of awkward, uncomfortable feeling you get that is hard to describe when you’ve been put on the spot. So, this makes it clear that Yoh is offering Segasaki an “out” from this uncomfortable, weird position he thinks Segasaki is in.

Similar to his earlier sentence, Yoh refers to himself as “こっち (this side)”, and the phrase he uses pretty much means “I can entertain myself”. This is an example of kizukai – or at least, what Yoh thinks is kizukai - which is a concept where you do your best to think of the other person’s needs and wants, so you can anticipate what help they might need and so you don’t inadvertently inconvenience them. Ok, now get ready for some mental gymnastics:

From Yoh's POV, Segasaki wants to buy clothes, and has brought Yoh along to carry the bags. Therefore, Segasaki’s offer to buy him a shirt, and asking him if he is having fun, is Segasaki’s kizukai – Segasaki is going out of his way to make sure Yoh is taken care of. But! Yoh doesn’t want Segasaki to feel inconvenienced (similar to how in EP 2, Yoh said he doesn’t want Segasaki to dislike him), so he instead almost reflexively rejects Segasaki’s offer, then encourages Segasaki to go enjoy himself, and in response to Segasaki’s “Ha!?”, doubles down and says he’s totally ok by himself - This is Yoh’s kizukai.

Tired yet? This is a normal consideration in daily interactions! You can see why the phrase “yokei na kizukai (excessive/unwanted kizukai)” also exists in Japanese lolol 🤣

S: ああ。せっかくの休日に、大嫌いな俺*と一緒にいてのはたのしくない？ Original: S: Ah. So spending a day with someone you hate on your precious day off isn’t enjoyable? Mine: S: Ah. On your precious day off, being together with me – who you hate* – isn’t fun?

*“大嫌いな俺 (dai kirai na ore)” is literally “the ‘me’ that you hate”, or “me who is hated by you” - emphasis on "me", the person standing right in front of you.

Y: いや、それは…違。。。あ、その。。。 Y: No, that’s…not-…- ah.. um…

“A, so” again.

S: 五時にここ集合*な (goji ni koko shuugou *na) S: We’ll meet here at 5, *yea?

*Ending with “na” is softer than “zo” – this statement is still pretty much an order, as with his other statements that ended with “zo”, but it’s gentler, and softens the fact that he’s walking away from Yoh here.

TSN: Pretty much everyone was just going on and on about “oh, poor thing!” in response to Segasaki getting rejected and chased away, and how even though he’s sad here he’s still sweet and gentle with Yoh. Yes, that’s right, everyone loves Segasaki.

TSN: This was apparently pretty difficult to shoot in a way the camera could see the water spilling, but the wardrobe team came to the rescue with hairdryers so they could keep reshooting 🤣🤣

S: じゃ、帰んぞ  (Jya, kaen zo) S: Then, we’re going back

“zo” is back! Sorry for being so pedantic about tiny things like this, but I do think it gives us insight into Segasaki's character and how he may be feeling.

This line is the most important correction in this post.

Y: 本当はさ、ずっと、ささいな表情とか、しぐさとか、 俺が言うこと聞くとちょっと嬉しそうにするのとか、 晴れの予報を告げる優しい声とか、 全部バカみたいに俺ばっかり。 毎日俺ばっかり心臓大暴れさせてるみたいで　 嫌だった Y: むかつくとこ拾い集めて　大嫌いだって思ってないと　 その気持ちの不釣り合いに　息ができなくなってしまいそうで 嫌だった Y: 嫌いじゃない　嫌いじゃないよ Original: Y: Actually, all these times, your expressions, gestures, the way you look kind of happy when you listen to me, and your gentle voice forecasting good weather. All of them, make my heart beat as if it’s coming out. I don’t like it. Y: I gathered everything that annoyed me, thinking that if I didn’t, the imbalance of my feelings would suffocate me. I don’t like it. Y: I don’t hate you. I really don’t. Mine: Y: In truth, all this while, the little expressions you make, the gestures you do, the way you seem just that little bit happier when I listen to you, and the gentle voice with which you announce the sunny weather… All of that - like an idiot, it's just me who… It feels like it's just me whose heart has been made to pound and race wildly and - I didn't like that. Y: If I didn't gather up all the things that frustrated me and told myself "I hate this" then, the disparity (between us) in those feelings would suffocate me, making me feel like I could hardly breathe and - I didn't like that. Y: I don't hate you. I really don't hate you.

TSN: This was ad-libbed too. It just happened that the metal post was coming up in between them as they walked, and Acchan saw it and planned to go around it, because he felt that emotionally there was a gap forming between Yoh and Segasaki at this point. But right as he was about to do that, Kouhei grabbed him by the sleeve and pulled him over, which Acchan was really surprised by, because they both had the same thought to ad-lib something about that post, and they both did it as their characters would do it, but it was the exact opposite action. The director said that when the 2 were walking back towards the start point they were both smiling a little, and then asked the director “how was that?” to which she replied “It’s really great!”, and then Acchan looked a little frustrated (in a sorta arrgh I got it wrong sort of way) whereas Kouhei was all “I was definitely right” (Acchan mentioned he was abit worried about the ad-lib, so I’m guessing they both were discussing as they walked back and finally decided to settle it by asking the director hahaha)

Yoh uses the formal "すいません (suimasen)" here, as opposed to his usual and more casual "gomen" or "gomen nasai", because this line is important to him, and he means it. "Sorry" in Japanese does not always carry the meaning of regret/remorse - it can be used to express gratitude as well. You''ll often here people say "Sorry that you had to (go through the trouble)" after they've accepted a gift, or "Sorry, I've caused you much trouble" as a way of thanking someone for their care. So, Yoh says "sorry" here after accepting Segasaki's gift, which could be seen as a thank you, but he also means he's sorry that he's like this, that he can't be honest/straightforward about his feelings (a theme that is brought up in Ep 4), that Segasaki has to care for him like this etc. "For many things" is a common way to encompass all of these mixed feelings, and yet not say them out directly.

S: よくできました (yoku dekimashita)

This is a formal way of saying “well done”, and if you did well in your work/test in elementary school you’d get a stamp that says just this, or your teacher would draw you a flower. The more elaborate the flower, the better you did. This is the only time thus far that Segasaki has said anything formal to Yoh at all. The sudden shift, and the imagery this phrase evokes – a literal stamp of approval – emphasises not just Segasaki’s approval, but also his role in Yoh’s life (ie, his role as Yoh’s provider, or well, maybe keeper is more accurate. Honestly Dom makes the most sense, but I’m not qualified to talk about that so see @lutawolf posts for more!). We’ll talk more about how both Segasaki and Yoh acknowledge the power dynamic between them in the way the speak in the language analysis post (that will come after this, before Ep 4's).

*The use of "na" here is slightly different from the one earlier - here it is used more for emphasis, and the downward tone carries a hint of mockery.

Again, Segasaki uses the same "the me who you hate" phrasing as he did earlier, emphasizing to Yoh once again that Segasaki is the one Yoh hates. Except here, he also ends off the sentence with "ですけど (desukedo)", and the whole phrasing of this line too, from the word "unfortunately" onwards, just feels business-like. As before, the shift in style gives the statement more weight- Segasaki is really not letting Yoh get away with this line here, and Yoh feels this acutely. The sharpness of the line makes him turn away abruptly in shock and even some anger.

*The "na" used here is similar to the one Segasaki used when telling Yoh to meet back at 5, in that it assumes the listener will agree with the speaker. This time it's not so much used to soften an imperative, but rather, to soften the teasing of the preceeding line - "I'll gratefully do as I please".

The phrase used here is "~させてもらう (~sasete morau)". "Sasete" means "to do" something, with the permission of the other person, and "morau" means "to receive (with thanks/gratefulness)" so together this phrase means that you're going to "do something (with the permission of the other person)", and you are thankful to have received that permission. It's usually used for things like asking your boss "May I please go home early with your kind permission" sorta thing, or telling someone that you "ate a meal someone provided for you that you are grateful for".

So here, Segasaki is pretty much saying "I'll do as I please since you so kindly told me I could, didn't you?" which is why he smirks as he says it.

so basically he's been in love with chisei since childhood but he never did anything abt it bc he was a loser science nerd with 0 social skills and later also realized it's one sided bc it's so obvious chisei and haruomi are in love but then chisei died of metal corrosion and he decides to take his phantometal to try and revive him or something (he's a yandere or whatever idk)

he uses kanata to trigger corrosion on everyone including himself so that when they're all a puddle of metal goo he can reunite with chisei again (haruomi would probably still win anyway but at least they'll all be together or something)

If gintama had been different after the shogun ass arc would you count it as one of your favorite series? I just got curious after seeing your recent posts :D I agree with them btw, and i thought the 3 disciples' bond was cheapened in subsequent arcs. Though i did like that gin remembered sugi's laugh, and i enjoy takazura so i wish zura had a similar fond memory of sugi since they knew each other even before sensei and gin. And while i like the idea of them reconciling, i wish it happened with more nuance and bittersweet feelings, the way their relationship was before the nonstop serious arcs with marvel movie dialogue. They could've used a tearful group hug...

hmmm dunno, i used to be unhealthily obsessed with it back in 2013-2018ish it was the big thing to me before getting into gk, if it never went south and had a timely ending maybe? can't say. i used to love it a lot. but with this rewatch i came to the conclusion that it's not as good as i remembered it to be, like it's decent but a lot of it is hit or miss, and at the heart of it it's not a qualitative product. though it does retain its charm. i think that if it ended at an appropriate time, without the whole utsuro and marvel space wars nonsense, it could have left a different impression, but as it overstayed its welcome by years... to me personally the fandom experience was also a highly unpleasant one, so i can't help but associate the series itself with that and feel a sourness towards it, even though it's silly.

there's also the sheer fact that the strong suite of gintama has always been the comedy, it's what i loved it for, and the serious bits were like once in half a year specials to give a bit more depth to the characters. but those still sowed in seeds that needed growing, even if the development was different to what we got, it still would have needed development. in short it's just messy. i think that it's one of those series that needed to come to you at a certain time in order to get you hooked. if someone asked me now "is it worth getting into it now that it's over" i wouldn't be able to say "yes" with a clear conscience.

June 12th is the day the first 3 in 1 Gintama volume in Spanish is going to be released officially.

But before buying it I must warn y'all 3 things:

1) This isn't the first time Gintama was published in Spain, or in Spanish. The first time was picked in the 2000s by a now defunct publisher name Glénat (to be more specific, the Spanish branch of the french publisher with the same name), published only 15 volumes, and TLDR the publisher lost it's Shueisha titles, the publisher changed it's name, and declared bankruptcy in the 2010s. Then got stuck in "never bring back this manga to Spain" limbo, and finally on December 2023 one of the biggest publishers in our country picked it again.

2) This 3 in 1 was supposed to come out in March but got pushed back to June, and we're now getting the first 3 in 1 in June. Then we're getting the 2nd 3 in 1 volume with Otae and Sadaharu as the front cover in July, and after that, the 3rd one with Kondo in the front cover in September. And yes, they're picking the leading volume's front cover as the 3 in one front cover (picking the 4th volume cover for the 3 in 1 that covers volumes 4, 5 and 6, as a example). Bye bye Kagura, Patsuan, Zura, Mayora and Sadist prince as front covers

3) An definitely the most important one regarding the translations: like I said, the manga got picked out previously so we, the fandom in Spain, were already asuming they may pick up that first translation for the first volumes. But ALLEGEDLY, the publisher mentioned how, not only they'd be picking this old translation, but also erasing some poorly aged things from the old volumes, which they honestly and definitely should do... But after seeing the preview from Amazon, it doesn't look like it that's happening, and we're definitely not getting any new updated translation till the 6th 3 in 1 volume comes out. So if you're having some troubles understanding some stuff in Spanish from these volumes, it's because this old translation mixes poorly aged things with some very local Spanish idioms AND NO, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, IT'S NOT FUCKING CENSORSHIP. THE IDIOMS COME FROM PROFESSIONAL HUMAN TRANSLATORS TRYING TO TRANSLATE AS FAITHFUL AS POSSIBLE JAPANESE JOKES THAT ONLY MAKE SENSE IF YOU LIVED IN JAPAN DURING THE TIME THE MANGA WAS PUBLISHED, OR TO ANYONE SPEAKING NATIVE LEVEL OF JAPANESE, TO A FOREIGN PLACE WHOSE LANGUAGE DOESNT HAVE ANY RESEMBLANCE TO JAPANESE. TRANSLATIONS ARE FUCKING HARD TO DO AND NOT ALWAYS A LITERAL TRANSLATION WORKS. Also don't ask why the publisher would do this, I'm as clueless as you are while reading this, and no, this is not the first time something like this happened. Just don't ask about the new Spanish and Catalan OP volumes in this same format. (I'm only going to say this OP translations have so many errors, all happening all the time, in the same page and volume, that I'm wondering if the translator was human at all. Just in case, I'm not accusing them of nothing)

For the kankeri game, your goal is to find the oni. First, you will need to choose between Red Team (oni is Akashi) and Green Team (oni is Hijikata). I chose Red Team~ Then, the touch screen will flash a pic with 5(or 6?) bushes where you'll pick the bush where you think the oni is hiding XD

I wasn't able to find the oni .__. So I was only able to get: - 2 prize B's (I chose Kagura/Taiga and Takasugi/Nigou... since Gin-san/Kuroko was already sold out....) - 1 price C (it's random... fortunately it was Takasugi haha)

My lil bro played it tho and he won 1 prize A (I asked him to get the Akashi/Takasugi hahaha and he gave it to me) and 1 prize B (he chose Zura/Kise XD) + 1 prize C (he got Sougo) XD

Gender swapped Ozai and Ursa? I was thinking just the two of them swapped just to see how this would impact Zuko and Azula differently (with Zuko having Ursulo (?) as an already positive/loving father and so may be more or less inclined to accept Iroh, while Azula and Ozia could be seen as more reflective to him). There's also how this corresponds to gender politics in the FN.

1. The last post was about Oza and Ursulon's marriage and what an utter nightmare it was, so for this post, I want to go a little further back, and talk about Oza's childhood, and about her and her sister's relationship with their mother. Because there never really was a time that Oza had a good relationship with her mother, or ever a time when Ilah was around to notice.

2. Firelord Azula married General Iroh when he was only a captain, and already famed for his brilliant and daring military maneuvers. The young Firelord was gaining a similar reputation of her own, and she liked his style, so she had him assigned to her own personal regiment. Strategic compatibility soon led to genuine regard and friendship, and then to passionate love, and they traveled home at the end of a campaign, to a wedding in the Fire Nation with all the pomp and ceremony a royal wedding can offer. Soon after the wedding, Azula found herself pregnant, and they had a baby girl they named Ilah, after her father. They had expected to have more children, but either Azula didn't concieve again, or she miscarried so early she never knew she was pregnant, and Ilah, perfect little Ilah, remained their only child, and her parents' pride and joy.

3. Now Iroh was a famed military commander, and married to the Firelord or no, he continued to lead his troops in the conquest of the Earth Kingdom, just as his wife did. He was off on campaign when Azula noticed her body changing. Her doctors had assured her this was coming, and she knew she was well past childbearing. And many women gained weight at this time in their lives. But then she felt movement, and she knew. Her doctors felt the movement and nodded amongst themselves, and concurred. She was indeed pregnant.

4. It wasn't long before she was due to give birth that word came that Iroh, Firelord's consort and famed war hero, had fallen in battle, dead in the northern Earth Kingdom. It might have been the baby's time anyway, or it might have been the shock, but either way, Azula went into labor. Calling it a long, difficult labor undersells it. Azula labored for nearly two days. Her doctors whispered amongst themselves how fortunate they were that Ilah was a grown woman, capable of ruling, because surely her mother would die. They whispered about how before the war, they might have brought in a waterbending healer, but of course they couldn't do that now. At long last, they had to cut into her to widen the birth canal, and Oza was born gasping and crying into the world, as if she had been the one to suffer.

5. Azula's body was never the same after. She took months to heal as much as she did, months spent mourning her husband, unable to even look at her new daughter, months when the child lingered without a name. She slept only to dream of Iroh. A better person would have understood that this wasn't her daughter's fault, and learned to love her child, or at least learned to let go and let someone else love her child, to stop hurting her child, but Azula daughter of Soza has never been a better person. And neither was Oza. The bitterest irony of them all is that Oza will never understand that she treated Zura exactly as her mother treated her.

Sakamoto thinks about his childhood, realizes its more messed up than he thought.

6. As Winds Pass By 

Also has huge spoilers in its premise. Sparknotes version is that this takes place in a world where the canon ending of Gintama happened, and then the second movie's premise of the epidemic happens. Somehow, in the midst of all of this, Sakamoto realizes that he's now immortal.

7. For all the stars in the universe (I was entranced into orbiting you) 

 Atmospheric 2nd person fic following Sakamoto and his unrequited love towards Gintoki. Lots of space metaphors.

 A Pacific Rim au set in the early days where Jagars where piloted by one pilot. Hal witnesses the destruction of Coast City by Cyborg Superman, but the whole thing is covered up by the board of directors. Hal lashes out at the, and as a result he is put on increasing dangerous missions to get rid of him. They also get Barry (who figured out the one person system is severely harming pilots but isn’t allowed to go public with the findings) to monitor his health and to attempt to ‘spy’ on him. Idea for a story: i don't tend to think about utena characters that way because they like. inhabit the story in a specific way you know? so it would have to be really specific especially for a character like shiori. but i think jurishiori are really well suited for a lot of AUs out there

Chapter 2

Added a small bit of romance

So, besides a huge hatred for my school, I have another very fun fact about myself. Two months into the new… oldish school and I’ve gotten assigned into a new co-curricular activity. Great. Lovely. Absolutely splendid. What was it? Doesn’t matter. 

I just wasn’t in the same one as Luna. We had gotten close, quickly. In the first few weeks, I was just so convinced that we were the only two within the few thousand people in this school that saw the awful flaws with the whole building, but apparently not. It turns out, we weren’t going insane. I was currently associating myself with everyone who could see the problems, and the group was huge. Well, not really. A total of 12 in the class, then. It was 6 times as much as I expected. So that was an upside here.

The only weird thing here was, the teachers were completely oblivious to the entire thing happening. How could we tell them that we were all suffering and tortured just by the building itself.

Go up to them, saying, “Hey the school looks atrocious and we are all dying inside from it”? Hell nah. Detention, immediately. And it’s not like I wanted another reason to stay in this damned place.

You know, my co-curricular activity wasn’t all that bad. Let’s call it CCA, hm?

I… can’t say I like the stuff we do in my CCA, but the people were chill, even my seniors were cool, so it was a 50/50. 

The place was plain awful. Need I say more? Just take me to the worst school where the cafeteria food was shit and I would be more than grateful. 

Unfortunately, I had my… CCA today, which always ended at 6:30, which was around sundown. Shadows everywhere, it was very creepy. It made me uneasy to walk down the hallways where almost no light shed, and the lightbulbs here flickered and only gave off a soft, yellow light. 

Huffing, I quickened my pace, where my other two friends, Leon and Zura were following me. Each step felt more scary as the concrete grew more cracked and chipped, and holes in the floor grew bigger and bigger.

Oh, did I mention? Those two see what I see too. 

Hate to be salty right now, but… fuck this school. No running in the hallways, they said. Finally sick of the long walkway that only seemed to stretch further and further, I dashed down. Without teachers here, who cared about the rules? Zura and Leon sprinted down the path, careful of how damaged it was, however.

Finally seeing the gates, I slowed down. When there were gates, there were security guards. Now, I did want to get past those gates as soon as I possibly could, but, you know, detention  sucks. 

Slowly walking past the guards, I steadied my breath, each slow and cautious exhale shuddered uncontrollably. I didn’t feel free in this school at all. I wiped the sweat off my forehead to show no signs of running. Leon and Zura were right behind me. 

Sighing, we were finally out of that place. Could my school be the backrooms? Yes, maybe, probably, I didn’t know. All I knew was that I would only be free for 12 hours.

And then I would be shoved into this worse-than-jail building.

If I could, I would literally do jazz hands right now and sparkle like those anime girls. But no. Only dark shit happens here.

“Okay, we are out of that place. Come on Zura, let’s get to the train, hm?” The only thing I felt was relief, and the stress of the school, and the gratitude within me that I survived yet another day in there.

Hah… what did I do to deserve this?

“Right, bye Zura. Bye sweetie,” Leon annoyingly said, while petting my freaking head.

Don’t get any ideas, he’s like this. I know.

I don’t like him. 

Right? 

Yeah? No? I don’t know. “Fuck off,” I grumbled under his touch.

“Nope! I’m bored, so you’re joining me on a trip to 711,” he grabbed me by the bag and pulled me away from Zura, where I waved bye to her, reluctantly. 

I had time to spare, so why not? Nothing better to do, so I might as well kill some time while I’m at it.

Damn him and his smile. He looked so free, it felt good seeing him like this. I wish I could feel the same. And before I knew it, we were here. I was still grimacing, while he was grinning like the idiot he was. Heh, maybe I did kind of like him? “Okay, what are we getting? I wanna go.” I muttered. “Wait, wait. Don’t go, don’t leave me alone,” he was still holding onto my bag, so I didn’t have much of a choice. I sighed, entering the small shop and grabbed a pack of biscuits and paid for them. The cashier was smiling, not as much as Leon, but still, quite a bit. 

I guess both of them had carefree brains.

I tiredly handed the cash to the cashier and left the place, while Leon was managing his instant ramen in the shop. Typical of him. He was never good in the kitchen.

Sighing, I went back in and hastily poured in the hot water and ramen and let it cook, in which he greedily gulped down the noodles when I announced that they were ready. He was acting like it was the last and best thing he would ever eat. Come on, they were just noodles! 

“I could make them for you next time, seeing how much you struggled,” I snickered.

“Nah, I want noodles, not a wife,” He smirked.

I fake-gagged. Absolutely not, this son-of-a-bitch was going to be the death of me. 

Slurping the last of his noodles down, I waved goodbye to him too and left for home. 

But I didn’t feel safe at all. I ran back into the shop to find Leon, and thank fuck was he still there. We were neighbours too, did I mention? No? Okay. Yeah, I found that out when we went to the same stop home.

“Never mind. I’m staying with you.” I quickly stated.

He broke into a large grin and took me with him towards the train.

As we were walking, I felt something watching us.

“Hey,” I whispered, “Do you feel like we are being watched?”

“Yeah? Kinda?” He shrugged.

Yeah. I finally realised what was watching us, which made me shriek in terror. A couple of rats, watching us, staring at our every move. I jumped into Leon’s arms as he tried to soothe me. I honestly didn’t care how we looked, I hated rats, so much, and they were staring at me. It was horrific having your very own fear stare right at you, while you were all vulnerable.

“You see those fucking damned rats, right? I’m not hallucinating am I, damn it! I hate those pesky pests.” I cried into his arms.

“Yeah, I see them. Want me to kick them?” He offered.

“No, no. You will have rat germs on you.” I couldn’t tell if I was joking about that or not. 

He chuckled, while guiding me towards the station, and holding me in a way where I couldn’t see anything but the ceiling and his face. 

He was incredibly stupid and mischievous, but also incredibly sweet and caring when he needed to be. Like now. I guess maybe… that’s why I admire him so much? 

The rats kept looking at us, gazes fixated, nothing could stop them from looking. I didn’t see the rats, but I could feel their piercing stares and I hated it so much. Silently whimpering, I moved towards the station with him leading the way, and I simply followed until the feeling of the hard glares softened and faded into nothing. Relief washed over me like a tsunami as I was finally out. I was done with that. Chuckling happily at myself for not throwing up, I quickly scrambled out of Leon’s arms.

You know when I said that I didn’t care about what people thought? Never mind. We definitely looked like a couple and I was a little worried about what people would think.

Giggling nervously, I just pointed at the station, pretending like whatever just happened didn’t happen.

He was stuck in a daze, so I snapped my fingers in front of him.

“Hey! Wake up!” I spoke a little louder.

He snapped back to reality and nodded, dragging me into the station with him.

I thought I was safe… but why were those rats looking at us? And were their eyes… red?

Shuddering, I tried to erase that from my mind. But I was:

1: In a fucking train that looked like the one in my nightmare

2: Traumatised from whatever the fuck I witnessed

How was this school legal?

Little did I know, this was just the first part of this school’s insanity.
