WIP wednesday
thank you for the tag @dungeons-and-dragon-age!! i slept. ALL day so i’m sorry this is so late lmao. i don’t have any drawing wips i really wanna share BUT my brain’s still on dorian & felix so have some pining (and a felix lives au)!! not tagging anyone because it’s barely even wednesday anymore and also i’m not sure who has/hasn’t/wants to, but tag me if you do something!!
Felix was handsome even in illness, if in a wan, haunting way: dark, sunken-in eyes that could be either piercing or impossibly tender, gauntness that served to show off high cheekbones and a strong jaw, emotive lines carved into thin skin that made every flicker of emotion on his face seem like more. Dorian had become so used to this consumptive image of him that he’d forgotten how he looked healthy.
The gray left that full bottom lip, then the rest of him, color slowly returning to his skin until it was nearly as flushed and olive again as it had once been. His hair came back at an even more sluggish rate, still patchy, but for the first time in what had to have been years there were strands more than a thumbnail in length that hadn’t yet fallen out. He began to gain weight again, muscle and fat softening the edges of his boxy frame, and he no longer shivered even when sitting close to the fire. He no longer went into restless states that left him torpid and drained either.
His strength was coming back slowly, and much of his youth was gone forever - those lines on his brow and framing his mouth would never smooth out - but it was steady improvement, and his mood and vitality matched it.
And Maker, how he glowed with it; like gold glittering by candlelight, like a thousand acres of field beneath the autumn sun.
He was laughing now, his eyes still dark underneath but glittering with mirth and tears as his drinking partners eagerly swapped anecdotes of their adventures, Sera barely able to get through her own story she was too busy giggling at the punchline she hadn’t yet delivered, Blackwall seemingly more amused at the two’s snorting than anything else. Dorian wasn’t sure how long it had been since he had last heard Felix laugh like this.
Pray he never stopped.
“Sparkler, you keep those puppy eyes up and you’ll ruin the whole ‘evil Vint’ thing you’ve worked so hard for.”

Welcome to DADWC!! How about “A lifetime of laughter, at the expense of the death of a bachelor” (Panic! at the Disco, Death of a Bachelor) for Bull/Dorian?
thank u for the patience friend! I hadn't heard this song before but now I have. (Second @dadrunkwriting fill in one day? :0)
“You’re really going through with this, aren’t you?” “I really am. Are you disappointed?” Felix sighs, “I think you’re an idiot, and that this is a terrible idea but I’m also... strangely proud of you.”
To Blackwall, Cassandra, Cole, and 10 others: I was wondering if you would be free to join me tomorrow evening for... a memorial of sorts, for someone quite close to me.
To Blackwall, Cassandra, Cole, and 9 others: Room booked at the Herald’s Rest, tomorrow, 7PM.
To Sera: Room booked at the Herald’s Rest, tomorrow, 6:30PM.
From Josephine: Oh Dorian, I’m so sorry to hear this, of course we will be there! Might I ask, is this a recent loss?
To Josephine: Your presence is much appreciated. It’s something of a complicated story, I’m sure you won’t mind if I wait to tell you all at once, tomorrow evening.
From Josephine: No, of course not, forgive me for prying. Much love.
--
“You’re sure you don’t want to call this off?” Felix says through the phone.
“A little late for that now,” Dorian points out, “they’ll all be here shortly. What else can I do? Call them all and say, ‘sorry lied about the whole memorial thing, never mind?”
“Isn’t the whole point of this that you’re lying to them?”
“Not lying,” Dorian says, “Misleading. It’s different. And I do think they’ll be a little too preoccupied to be mad, afterwards.”
“You’re really going through with this, aren’t you?”
“I really am. Are you disappointed?”
Felix sighs, “I think you’re an idiot, and that this is a terrible idea but I’m also... strangely proud of you.”
“Now, now,” Dorian admonishes gently, “there’s going to be enough sappiness later on, keep it together for me.”
Felix laughs, and Dorian can just about see him shaking his head.
“You sure you don’t want me to video call you in?”
“I’ll give the game away, just send me the recordings after, and Dorian?”
“Yes Felix?”
“Good luck.”
--
His friends arrive, almost entirely on time for once, in ones and twos and threes. Dorian greets them at the door to the private room, face solemn, and directs them to the seats he’s set out. There’s no faux coffin in the room -- he hadn’t wanted to get quite that morbid, but there is an indulgent spray of funeral flowers set at the front of the room.
Sera tries to ask questions, and is summarily shushed by Josephine. Cole tries to give answers and is dragged aside, informed, and shushed by Dorian. He doesn’t quite get it, but he must have a good feeling about the results because he keeps his mouth shut. Leliana seems to know something’s up, but is entertained enough to not say anything, and Bull gives Dorian a hell of a look, laced with enough concern that Dorian actually feels a little... guilty.
“Thank you all for coming,” Dorian says, once everyone is seated, and pulls out the stack of memorial pamphlets he’s had printed, “I appreciate your presence with me tonight, and your patience with what is a... complicated situation.”
He begins stepping around the circle, handing the pamphlets out.
“Er, Dorian,” Blackwall says, “I think there’s been a mix-up. They’ve put your picture on these.”
“Oh,” Dorian says, turning to the flowers to give him a moment to suppress the grin creeping onto his face, “no, that’s quite correct.”
“You better not be a bloody ghost!” Sera yelps, flinging her pamphlet at him as if to test her hypothesis. It manages, despite being a flat piece of paper that has no business being able to be thrown with any accuracy, to smack Dorian right in the face, which is unpleasant, but does at least seem to reassure her that he isn’t, in fact, a ghost.
None of the others seem particularly concerned that he’s undead, but there is a lot of muttering, and worried looks being pointed his way.
“You need an intervention or something, Pavus?” Krem asks with a frown, “cause I know that cries for help are actually a good thing and shit, and you Magisters-”
“Altus, Soporatus, you know better.”
“-fine, you Altus love your drama, but even this is a bit much.”
“I assure you,” Dorian says to the group at large, “this is not a cry for help.”
“You did just hand us all a funeral pamphlet with your face on it, Sparkler,” Varric points out.
“It’s not a funeral pamphlet, it’s a memorial pamphlet, and-”
“The dates are wrong,” Leliana interrupts, “The death date is a question mark so I cannot comment on that, however this is not your birthdate. You must have been... eighteen? Nineteen?”
“Eighteen,” Dorian confirms, pinching the bridge of his nose and taking a deep breath, “this has all gone rather off-track, hasn’t it. If you would all just hold your questions, and nonsense,” he throws a quick glare at both Sera and Krem, “and allow me to explain things, I think you’ll find it will benefit all of us.”
Bull, Dorian notes, is watching him very, very carefully. They haven’t seen each other since yesterday which isn’t entirely unusual, given Dorian insistence that they maintain their own homes up unto this point, even if he spends most nights in Bull’s bed or with Bull in his own, but he can tell that the fact he’s said nothing about any of this to Bull is concerning him.
Nothing to be done about it now. Nothing but going forward with the plan as intended.
“We are here, this evening,” Dorian says, “to consider, and honour the life of someone I believe we all care about. Someone who has, for many years been the life of our parties, a bringer of spectacular stories and an improver of our collective fashion sense.”
“What happened to ‘im?” Sera interjects. Dorian rolls his eyes but doesn’t grizzle.
“Nothing, as of yet,” Dorian reassures them, “but the bachelor of which we speak has, while not by anyone’s definition a selfless man, has decided that there are certain things worth sacrificing one’s life for.”
They look at him (with the exception of Cole of course, and Vivienne who’s grinning like she knows the answer is is utterly uninterested in giving hints to anyone else) like he’s spouting absolute gibberish. He’d hoped his friends would be a little more advanced in their thinking, but alas. If he has to help them along, so be it.
“How,” he says, “does one kill a bachelor?”
“Shoot ‘im!” Sera suggests.
“Blunt force trauma?” Krem asks, “to the head?”
Leliana hums quietly, “poison?”
“Blessed Maker,” Dorian says aghast, “what is wrong with you?”
“Hate to break it to you,” Herah points out, “but you did invite us all along to what is looking a lot like a fake memorial service for yourself. Your high horse is more of a rocking pony.”
Dorian rolls his eyes, “how long did it take you to think of that?”
Herah pouts, “a couple of minutes.”
“Well done, regardless,” Dorian admits, “now you’ve all had enough time to think. Varric, surely you’ll know. How does one kill a bachelor?
“Explosion?”
“Oh for-” Dorian throws his hands in the air and turns away from them all, trying to come up with a plan B for how he’s going to make this happen. He can tell them the answer, of course, but it won’t be at all the same and someone figuring it out themselves-
“Oh,” Cassandra says, “of course.”
Dorian spins back to look at her, as does everyone else in the room, and she flushes.
“Isn’t it obvious?” she insists, “to kill a bachelor, you marry him.”
They all stare at Cassandra a moment before turning, slowly, to Dorian, who has taken advantage of their distraction to sink to his knee, and pull the ring box from his pocket.
“The Iron Bull,” he says, and he’s not choking up dammit, of course he isn’t, he’s practiced this too many time for that to happen, “I have been a bachelor for over a decade now, and I have thought for some time that it was something I would never give up. That I could not ask for more than what I had.”
“Dorian-” Bull says and there must be something wrong with the acoustics in here, because now he sounds like his voice is cracking and there’s not way that can be the truth.
“Hush,” Dorian says, gently, “let me finish.”
Bull does, closes his mouth and leans back in his chair but not before taking Dorian’s hand in his own, and holding it.
“Right,” Dorian says, “as I was saying. Bull you have come along and swept everything out from under me. Shown me that there is in fact, a whole other life to be had. A life full of laughter, a life full of love, and safety, and honesty.”
And bugger it all he is crying now, and he can only thank the Maker for the fact that he’s a pretty crier.
“I have realised,” Dorian says, “that this is a life I want, even if it comes at the expense of the death of a bachelor.”
He opens the box. It wasn’t easy convincing someone to make an untinted dawnstone ring, or managing to get the measurements without Bull noticing, but he’s done it.
“The Iron Bull, will you marry me?”

My DAI playthrough part 4
Went through In Your Heart Shall Burn last session, so I guess I'm done with prelude stuff and into the game proper.
Finally introduced Corypheus, which clarified a handful of things and was a nice scene (I like that he's fairly... eloquent? He has interestingly poetic turns of phrases). The whole siege and rescue and desperate stand sequences were fun. Also Samson (From somewhere in the (not so far off) distance Hawke is yelling "KNEW I SHOULD HAVE KILLED HIM" because, yeah, i wanted to but of course you didn't have the option then). Then after my unexpected survival, I got manipulated by a Mother into becoming the Inquisitor. Unsurprisingly, none of the reasons to pick that choice were super-perfect for the way my characters see things, since she's not an unbeliever but this isn't her faith, and she does believe in consensus and working with a group of well meaning people for the betterment of all, but she also has too pragmatic a view of altruism to like speaking of "doing the right thing" in the abstract. So I went with the boring choice of "to take down Corypheus" And then Solas sprung us a fortress form out his hat. Gotta love that he's suddenly giving me some "Lethallan" now that he's trying to buttering him up for something -_-; Otherwise also appreciate the "yes, but how will this harm us" reflex though. Skyhold is pretty amazeball. (I also finally installed Trespasser so I have access to a bit more QoL stuff and trinkets to play with). I'm sad we lost most of the NPCs that were working for us (i mean they're obviously still around since I rescued them but not in the same function except for Harrit) as I liked most of them. Threnn especially was a riot with her "Loghain did nothing wrong", bless her. OTOH we won Dagna so everything is right because she is perfect and beautiful and wonderful <3 ... Some day we might get a chance to romance to dwarf damnit. I'm currently letting Hawk hanging on that rampart because my first attempt are recreating the design I gave her in my own party was too frustrating. ;_; How do people manage? Opened a few more areas, but only really started exploring the Emerald Graves (which is super pretty). Vivienne's anger about how badly prepared we were at defending Haven was interesting (since it's probably self directed a lot as well as against the Inquisitor. Wish she'd yelled at Cullen though, if it was anyone's job, it was his). Lelianna's dialogue (feeling bad about about not keeping more scouts out despite the danger) continue being fairly interesting but frustrating me with the lack of options that fit my idea of what my character wants to say too much. I had a similar problem with the dialogue with Sera. Like, at one point there was one Investigation pick where my character basically yelled angrily at her which... would... not all be my choice? My character found Sera freaking out a bit rather endearing. Dorian had an interesting turn of phrase when talking about his not having a relationship with Felix which leads me to think that his sexuality is a bit of a problem in Tevinter. Something you do with slaves, but not with your fellow people of the same status, I expect? I did note some banters where he was talking negatively about the marriage for breeding and alliances among his classes as well, which can't help either. Iron Bull's subtlety of character, continues to impress me a lot. It was very sweet of him to take me to cosplay as a mercenary to learn more about my men. Oh. And then there's Cole. You know I hadn't realised until then that, yes, having a spirit/spirit possessed/channelling member in the party WAS   mandatory thing in DA but I guess we 3,5 out of 3,5 (I'm counting Awakening as 0,5). And it went so well the last time, too! Well he's... interesting in a fairly off putting as well as endearing kind of way, I guess? Very weird though, even in term of trying to map with anything we know so far about spirits. He's got a real name, not a function, we don't really know what he's a spirit of, they even tell us quickly that we was around from before the Breach which would have been my first guess at a beginning of explanation. Oh, I forgot to talk about Blackwall. He had a talk about saying that now that I'm in this Herald of Andraste role it doesn't matter if it's genuine i should just play it, and I suspect that too was a lot about projection. By which I mean I'm starting to doubt he's really a Warden (i mean the Wardens have all disappeared, and he continues to give us niet, nothing and nada in term of info, and i know DA loves their ASOIAF references).
Okay, sorry for doing the addendum thing again, but... well, I noticed when you were in the Oasis that when you opened the Temple of Pride door, the words in the incantation thing included "Solas" but I hadn't checked yet which word it might be. But just now I had the wiki page opened because I checked the spelling of Lethallin for the sake of this post so I just checked and... yeah okay that's the worst word it could possibly be -_-

Detailed companion verse
Name: Alanari Tillahnnen
Race: Elvhen
Class & Specialization: Arcane rogue
Varric’s Nickname for them: Bright Eyes
Default Tarot Card: The Chariot
How they are recruited: Encountered protecting a group of elvhen refugees in the Hinterlands. If the correct dialogue options are chosen, Alanari may become an agent or a companion.
Where they are in Skyhold: before renovations are complete, they can be found on the second floor of the barn. Later, they will move in to one of the vacant rooms overlooking the garden. If romanced, their belongings will move to the Inquisitor’s tower.
Things they Generally Approve of: compassion towards marginalized people, limiting the Chantry’s influence, defending elves
Things they Generally Disapprove of: prioritizing the interests of nobility over everyone else, hostility towards elves, turning elvhen artifacts and history over to humans
Mages, Templars, Other?: afraid of both (though that is not something they’ll easily admit), slightly favors mages. Greatly dislikes the Circles.
Companions
Friendly: Varric Blackwall Cole
Indifferent/neutral: Sera Dorian Solas Leliana Iron Bull Josephine
Unfriendly: Cassandra Vivienne
Romanceable?: By elvhen Inquisitors. If the Inquisitor refuses to help rescue their brother, or if Morrigan is allowed access to the Vir’abelasan, there is a potential outcome of Alanari breaking off the relationship.
Small side mission: tbc.
Companion quest:
Triggered upon reaching the Dalish camp in the Exalted Plains. When the Inquisitor exits conversation with Keeper Hawen for the first time, they will approach him on their own. They become more and more distressed, and run from his side mid-sentence to ask that the player accompany them to the Emerald Graves to find their brother, Hawen’s First.
Option 1: Refuse to track Taven and his group. This nets you a ‘greatly disapproves’, and Alanari will temporarily leave the party to find him on their own.  There is, after this, always a hint of disinterest bordering on coldness in their voice when speaking to the Inquisitor. This option will also end any romance, no matter its progression.
Option 2: Agree to help. When next entering the Emerald Graves, a cutscene outside of Din’an Hanin will trigger. You hear combat ahead, and Alanari rushes ahead. The party follows, and the next scene shows Alanari cutting down combined Red Templar-Venatori forces alongside a small group of elves. All appear to be defending one elf in particular, who bears more than a passing resemblance to Alanari.
Like Fenris’ personal quest, if the story progresses and their quest is not completed, Alanari will disappear from Skyhold or camp, and return only when they find Taven.
Tarot card change
Option 1: Five of Swords: discord, promotion of self-interest, conflict
Option 2: Page of Wands: enthusiasm, welcome news
Romanced: Six of Cups
Cole’s reflection on their thoughts: “Quiet, sad acceptance. Say it doesn’t hurt until it feels real.”
Comment(s) on Mages: “Alone and desperate when the entire world either wants you dead or wouldn’t care? No, I have no idea what that feels like.”
Comment(s) on Templars: (sarcastically) “I do appreciate how well they protect everyone from ‘the dangers of magic’.”
When looking for something: “Wait, this could be useful. Let me...there!”
When finding a campsite: “I’m fine to set up here. Or move on. Your choice.”
When the Inquisitor falls: “Hey! We still need you here!”
When the Inquisitor falls (romanced): “No! No, no, no...I’m coming!”
When they are low on Health: “Some help over here!”
When they see a dragon: “Couldn’t we find another path? We’re intruding on its home.”
If the party decides to attack the dragon anyway: “Really?”
During their small side quest:
Greeting:
Cold/Hostile (-75 to -5): “What, you need me to go beat someone up because he didn’t bow to you quickly enough?”
Neutral (-5 to 34): “What is it?”
Warm/Friendly (35 to 125): “Falon?”/”Lethallen?”
Sample banter:
(adapted from here.)
Varric: You don’t talk much about yourself. Alanari: *laughs* I talk enough. Varric: No, what you do is put out hot air, and hope no one notices. Not the same thing. Alanari: What do you want me to say? My life wasn’t some magical adventure. Or constant stealing, despite what I know humans like to believe. Alanari: Why do you want to know so much, anyway? Varric: Everyone has a past. Alanari: So make it up. Everyone else does.
Leaving the Inquisition: “Not that I expect you to care, but I’m out. I want nothing more to do with where you’re heading.”
