➤ PRE-FINALS PERFORMANCE TASK PODCAST SCRIPT GROUP 4
THE CHANGES THAT HAPPENED IN THE PHILIPPINES BROUGHT ABOUT BY THE AUDIENCE AND THEIR FEEDBACKS TO ONLINE CONTENT ABOUT THE PHILIPPINES.
(PODCAST INTRO SOUND FADING IN)
(INTRODUCTION ; SERIOUS)
GENERATED VOICE: THE FOLLOWING EPISODE DEALS WITH VIOLENCE, GUNFIRE, ORGANIZED CRIME, MURDER, AND DEATH. PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE TOPICS TO BE TALKED ABOUT IN THIS PODCAST ARE RATED R. FEEL FREE TO SKIP AS WE ARE GOING TO PROVIDE TIME STAMPS TO OTHER TOPICS THAT WE ARE GOING TO DISCUSS.
(CUTS TO THE SPEAKER, RENDHEL)
RENDHEL: WELCOME TO “WHEN IN MANILA” PODCAST WHERE WE TALK ABOUT “THE DARK SIDE OF THE COUNTRY WITH THE MOST GENEROUS PEOPLE, THE PHILIPPINES.” MY NAME IS RENDHEL. HOW IS EVERYONE? TODAY, WE ARE GOING TO REVISIT THE BRUTAL MASSACRE THAT HAPPENED AT QUIRINO GRANDSTAND IN MANILA.
WE ARE JOINED BY OUR GUEST, JOSHUA. WE’LL SEE WHAT HE CAN GIVE US REGARDING TODAY’S TOPIC.
LET US WELCOME OUR GUEST FOR TODAY’S EPISODE, JOSH! HOW ARE YOU TODAY?
MUSIC: (FADE IN)
JOSHUA: HEY, RENDHEL. EVERYTHING'S GOOD. HOW ABOUT YOU?
RENDHEL: DO YOU WANT TO INTRODUCE YOURSELF TO OUR AUDIENCE?
JOSHUA: WHAT’S UP? MY NAME IS JOSHUA. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME TODAY.
RENDHEL: I HOPE YOU’RE READY FOR TODAY’S PODCAST. SHALL WE START?
JOSHUA: AS A MATTER OF FACT I AM. LET'S DO THIS!
RENDHEL: ALRIGHT SO, ARE YOU FAMILIAR WITH THE MANILA HOSTAGE CRISIS WHERE FILIPINOS ARE STILL BOUND BY THE ECHOES OF THIS CONTROVERSIAL EVENT?
JOSHUA: AS A GEN Z, I WAS ACTUALLY ONLY SEVEN YEARS OLD WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURED. IT WAS 2010! I WAS IN 3RD GRADE AND THE ONLY THING THAT I WANT TO WATCH ON THE TELEVISION ARE CARTOONS. BUT ALL OF A SUDDEN, MY PARENTS ARE WATCHING. THEY WENT FIRST WHEN IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE MY TURN BECAUSE IT WAS TIME FOR SPONGEBOB. I WAS THROWING TANTRUMS BECAUSE I COULDN’T WATCH MY FAVORITE SHOW.
RENDHEL: YES, I AGREE. MY MOTHER SUDDENLY CHANGED THE CHANNEL WHEN I WAS WATCHING DORAEMON, AND I REMEMBER CRYING BECAUSE OF THE FRUSTRATION.
BACK THEN, SINCE WE WERE JUST KIDS, WE WOULD NOT HAVE UNDERSTOOD HOW SERIOUS THAT SITUATION WAS. BUT NOW, LOOKING BACK AT IT… IT WAS SCARY, HUH?
JOSHUA: YEAH. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE BEING PUT IN THAT KIND OF SITUATION. THERE WERE MANY CASUALTIES AND THE GOVERNMENT AND POLICE HANDLED THAT SITUATION POORLY.
RENDHEL: BUT IF YOU ASK ME WHAT MADE THE SITUATION WORSE WAS THE MEDIA, THEY WERE BROADCASTING THE EVENT LIVE ON TELEVISION, WHICH GAVE THE HOSTAGE TAKER INFORMATION AS TO WHAT WAS HAPPENING ON THE OUTSIDE. THEIR GREED WAS VERY OUTRAGEOUS.
JOSHUA: I KNOW RIGHT? ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY REVEALED THE LOCATION OF THE SNIPERS, THAT WAS VERY STUPID OF THEM SINCE SNIPER POSITIONS SHOULD BE HIDDEN TO THEIR TARGETS.
RENDHEL: I THINK THAT EVENT EXPOSED HOW INCOMPETENT OUR GOVERNMENT IS, AND ALSO HOW THE MEDIA MESSED IT UP BY THEIR HUNGER OF GOOD SCOOPS, THE SITUATION WORSENED WHEN THEY SHOWED THE BROTHER OF THE SUSPECT BEING ARRESTED.
JOSHUA: LOOKING BACK, THE HOSTAGE TAKER’S DEMANDS WAS PRETTY SIMPLE WHY COULDN'T THE GOVERNMENT GIVE THEM? OR SIMPLY PRETEND TO ACCEPT THE DEMANDS AND ARREST HIM AFTERWARDS? THEY EVEN MESSED UP AND MISCOMMUNICATED DURING THE NEGOTIATION PROCESS. THERE ARE SO MANY “WHAT IFS” SCENARIOS THAT WE CAN THINK OF REGARDING THAT EVENT.
RENDHEL: OH THERE DEFINITELY IS A LOT, BACK THEN WE HAVE VERY LITTLE INFORMATION WITH WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED BUT NOW WE HAVE LOADS OF IT. AND THE SUSPECT WAS ALSO A VERY RESPECTABLE POLICEMAN WHO WAS REMOVED FROM HIS POSITION DUE TO FALSE ACCUSES AGAINST HIM IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY.
JOSHUA: OH YEAH, I THINK THERE WAS EVEN EVIDENCE THAT HE WAS INNOCENT. IF ONLY THEY LISTENED TO HIM THEN THE HOSTAGE TAKING WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
RENDHEL: I AGREE WITH YOU, BUT WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN IF THE GOVERNMENT ASSIGNED THE SAF TO HANDLE THE SITUATION IMMEDIATELY INSTEAD OF THE SWAT TEAM.
JOSHUA: OH I THINK THAT ORDEAL COULD HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH FASTER SINCE THE SAF WAS MORE WELL EQUIPPED AND SUITED FOR THOSE KINDS OF SITUATION, IT WAS REALLY HANDLED POORLY BY THE HIGHER UPS.
RENDHEL: YEAH, INCOMPETENCE AT ITS FINEST. ANYWAY, TIME IS RUNNING LOW SO MAY I ASK WHAT’S YOUR FINAL THOUGHTS ON THE ISSUE AT HAND?
JOSHUA: WELL, HOPEFULLY THE GOVERNMENT LEARNED ITS LESSON TO BE MORE COMPETENT WITH THESE KIND OF SITUATIONS IN THE FUTURE. YOU CAN TELL THAT IT WAS THE LEADERS AND HIGHER UPS WHO HAD ISSUES SINCE THEY GAVE ORDERS THAT WERE HEADSCRATCHERS, AND WITH THE MEDIA I THINK YOU RARELY SEE EVENTS SUCH AS THESE BE BROADCASTED LIVE LIKE WHAT HAPPENED BEFORE, THE MEDIA IS SLIGHTLY MORE CAREFUL WITH WHAT THEY BROADCAST, ESPECIALLY IF ITS A LIVE BROADCAST. SO I CAN SAY THAT THE MEDIA IMPROVED BECAUSE THEY KNOW NOW WHAT THEY SHOULD DO AND SHOULDN'T.
RENDHEL: WHO WOULD’VE KNOWN THAT SUCH AN INCIDENT WOULD HAPPEN WHEN WE WERE THAT YOUNG AND WE WITNESSED IT, SO OF COURSE GIVEN THAT WE WERE STILL KIDS WE WOULD NOT UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION FULLY. AND IT CAME OUT OF NOWHERE WHICH MAKES THE INCIDENT THAT HAPPENED MUCH MORE SHOCKING TO EVERYONE.
JOSHUA: SINCE WE ARE ADULTS NOW AND IT HAPPENED A LONG TIME AGO, WE HAVE MORE CONTEXT AND INSIGHT NOW OF THE EVENTS WHICH IS WHY WE UNDERSTAND IT MORE, AND WE DIDN'T HAVE YET BACK THEN.
RENDHEL: AND YEAH, WE WILL END IT THERE. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INSIGHTS TODAY (STATES GUEST’S NAME), I'M SURE WE WERE ABLE TO EDUCATE AND INFORM THOSE WHO ARE LISTENING TODAY.
JOSHUA: NO PROBLEM, RENDHEL. THANK YOU FOR HAVING ME ON YOUR PODCAST TODAY.
RENDHEL: THAT’S ABOUT IT FOR TODAY’S PODCAST, EVERYONE. WE WILL SEE YOU ON THE NEXT ONE.
(ENDS THE PODCAST)

Doraemon Movie Review: Nobita and the Winged Braves (2001)
What is Doraemon? The title character of the Doraemon manga and anime is a blue robotic cat from the 22nd Century who keeps an array of high-tech gadgets in a portable pocket dimension on his belly, and has traveled from the future to improve the fortunes of a hapless schoolboy named Nobita. Although relatively obscure in the English-speaking world, Doraemon is a Mickey-Mouse-level cultural icon in East Asia (and some other regions, too). The Doraemon franchise was a big part of my childhood, and there are still elements of it that I enjoy now.
Doraemon has released theatrical films almost annually since 1980, most of which involve Nobita and his friends (kind Shizuka, brash Gian, and crafty Suneo) getting swept into adventures thanks to Doraemon's gadgets. Despite being of potentially broad appeal to fans of science fiction and animated films, there are very few English reviews of the Doraemon movies, so I'm embarking on a project to write about all the films that have come out so far. Good luck to me…
Tumblr media
Movie premise: Nobita and his friends stumble across a portal leading to a land inhabited by bird people.
My spoiler-free take: A fun movie that unfortunately has an unpolished feel to its plot.
POTENTIAL SPOILERS AFTER THIS POINT
Review: This is unquestionably an exciting film to watch, with the race sequence partway through and the final struggle against the main threat being particular highlights. The concept of a bird civilization is also of special interest to me, of course. However, I’ve long thought that the story lacks a sense of coherence in following the plot threads that it introduces.
One of the most obvious examples of this is that the primary villain becomes a non-entity as soon as his plan goes sideways and a greater threat appears. He is not even given a cameo appearance or a passing mention when all is said and done. Does he still retain his leadership position in the bird military? Has his perspective changed at all as a result of this incident? The movie does not say.
Then there’s the character of Icarus the eagle-man, who is built up as a legendary figure in bird society. When he finally enters the story in the flesh, he proceeds to spend his screentime accomplishing... not very much. Nearly all of his contributions probably could have been written out of the film with little difficulty. Even the reveal that he’s the biological father of the protagonists’ new friend, Gusuke, amounts to almost no narrative importance (and is never disclosed to the main characters or to Gusuke himself).
I also felt that there were many missed opportunities with the portrayal of the bird civilization. To be fair, it’s more fleshed out than the animal society from Nobita and the Animal Planet, but not by a whole lot. Even a few more relatively basic references to real-world bird biology could have enhanced the worldbuilding—why not have the owl professor be nocturnal? (One scene shows him working at night, but in an “academic doing late-night research” kind of way.) There’s no shortage of interesting elements in bird physiology and behavior to draw from that could have made the bird people much more than simply “flying humans that hatch from eggs”. (Why yes, I am a degreed bird biologist overthinking a children’s anime...)
In addition, it would have been nice to see the main characters display quirks and abilities based on the Bird Hats that they wear to blend into bird society. At one point, Gian is shown to require a running take-off because he is wearing an albatross hat. I would have liked to see more moments like that. (Ironically, this is something that Nobita and the Animal Planet did better.)
Tumblr media
(The movie poster is actually non-indicative on this front—in the film proper, the protagonists gain traits of specific types of birds depending on the hats they wear. They don’t all just grow generic “angel wings”.)
As a final observation: the main threat ends up getting sent to the beginning of time, which has to be one of the most horrifying fates for any antagonist in a Doraemon movie. Perhaps only the ultimate defeat of the villain in Nobita Drifts in the Universe could compete in that regard.
Star rating: ★★★☆☆

time to write a proper response woosh
"uncooked bread...craving burned toast"
Excuse me who you calling uncooked- also wait is that a threat O.o
yeah. Life fucking sucks. Especially for me on that day ugh. When my days go increasingly bad I do somethings that I look forward to, to make me happy but then that thing also tipped me off and I reached my breaking point.
eh
Queen I don't think it's really healthy to sleep that much- dummy take care of your health!!
but I get that, being drained by ppl and all, hhhh..
Like I said that fic kinda thing is a trilogy so there's a third part to it too but now I don't feel very good, don't wanna write
Ee... your reactions
Like I had sent had I? Well reaffirming, Older then 15 but ok, I don't write smut mostly anyways let alone ever send anyone..
Have a nice day<3
~🍞
I like uncooked bread and no it's not a threat. Not reAlly..
Actually my day has been going good. Too good to true. when I returned home from school turn out a shopkeeper gave me extra money accidentally 😛. It was just 20 so I didn't return back ;P
Dw toast your day will start to get better too. Eat a toast everyday to keep bad things away 👍
eh?
I feel good to sleep. 13 hrs of sleep a day is a must. I recommend. and short naps on the class as well or my brain lags.
more likely i drain other people but it works the other way around too
I understand you. The sudden loss of motivation. The biggest urge hits me during chemistry class mostly because i don't listen shit, it comes like a roundhouse kick on the gut. The girl sitting next to me thinks i am having anxiety but no, I just want to talk about how good of an eye candy Goo is and my thirst for him to the point where I can't sit still but I can't talk abt him here because phones are NOT fucking allowed in the school. And then I reach home, everything is annoying and I just want to sleep.
Yes, I did get your message but to explain it in short this is what happened inside my brain
"Oh they are older than 15, I am on the line of red zone ig? should I reply? But that's their age, what if they don't want people to know? But it's sent anonymously so ig there won't be a problem? AND? it's still their personal information? BUT STILL what if they don't want people to know??? BUT-"
I thought like this for an hour before I came up with the best possible solution. ToJustNotThinkAboutItAtAll. Just with that I slept again. Sorry if you though I was rude for not replying to you. I won't guarantee that it won't happen again :D
Ik I overreacted. I did use to write smuts when I was 12 but now I see my little cousin who is 13 watching doraemon and spongebob... wildfire spread on my mind yk thinkling abt "What if they are kids and I am asking them smut? HUH?" nearly lost my shit a little
Have a nice day too toast <3

Last Song: Six legs (tippy tappy toes)

(ALTHOUGH, EmerialynCodeVenice, Smiles4Voltron, LadyGreenFrisbee's stuff is REALLY good)
Next on my Watchlist: I want to find some of the old Doraemon movies I used to frequently watch as a kid, if anyone can find them 4 free online, PLS can you let me know?
Current Obsession: Lego Monkie Kid and Bee & Puppycat. I downloaded lazy in space on my phone and it was all I watched on my 7 hour flight. Idk where to watch Monkie kid though, I just float amongst the fan content. BUT I did watch the s4 special on youtube and like bro, MK went apeshit? YES PLEASE
( psssstttt go check out @cats-and-confusion & my au shenanigans in space if you're interested in a mashup au of the lmk cast in the story of bapc)
Also the combo au me and a friend are working on is giving me ALOT of brainrot
9 people you want to get to know better
Tagged by, @inquisitor-apologist 👀 thanke
Last song: Wonderful Night by Fatboy Slim - I was watching Flushed Away for old times sake and the song was in the credits :D but like as for a song I was listening to deliberately last, then that'd be Red Flags by Tom Cardy... don't ask.
Currently reading: Hot Money - Dick Francis, well more like it's the next one on my reading "to do list", it's one of the few Dick Francis books I haven't read yet, so I'm really looking forward to it >:) always up to suffering with Francis' horse plinkos
Current fic: Across The Galaxy by Greencharacters on AO3 because I need all the Kanera fics inserted directly into my bloodstream-
Currently watching: the Ahsoka show! I love it so far no mention of Kanan??? I MEAN, I love all the Spectres popping up 👀 I'm saving my thoughts on it until after it's finished telling its story - in the words of mister Tolkien "We must not be hasty."
Next on my watch list: Mm, likely Loki, I think the new season comes out a week after Ahsoka ends. Also hoping Lego Ninjago's second half of the new season will come out soon, so that's in the cards as well :D otherwise... maybe His Dark Materials. I think there was something new for that as well? But I'll probably have to rewatch the whole thing, I can't remember where I ended up oop.
Current obsession: Kanan Jarrus :) currently trying to continue with my Inquisitor!Kanan AU without feeling guilty about it- also thanks to @vinniehorrible I am now overthinking the possibility of Marrok being Kanan or a clone of his... it's complicated- and I might explore it on my art blog later. I'm forever of the delulu clan.
Aight, time to pop up in 9 people's notifications

[TRANS] Sanspo TOHOSHINKI article 2022/04/14
Cr. @/beriko0214 on twt
About resuming their activity in Japan
YH&CM: We are really happy to come back.” (crapping their hands)
YH: We had online concerts for a couple of times but we, TOHOSHINKI, are so excited to perform off-line in front of you all. Under the circumstances (COVID-19), we have been worried about each other and also have been longing to perform in-person… so this time we want to do our best in our performance.. dance and we want to talk.. we cannot wait ..
CM: During my enlistment, I realized that I had a block of time that I cannot visit Japan. I was frustrated about being separated (from our fans) for such a long time (due to COVID). When I talked to YH in private, we often said that we wanted to visit Japan soon and have a live concert. We have not stepped into Japan just yet but we are quite excited.
CM: It is such an honor and also joy that we were able to have the Dorm tour every year. Of course, we do not take performing at the Dorms for granted and we were always very grateful (to our fans) .. but right now, my gratitude (to our fans) have doubled and (they) are really important for me and I miss (them) a lot.
YH: “to me, I feel very strong that we create the stage of TOHOSHINKI together with our fans and I am truly grateful that our fans recognize our tour as the big event every year. I feel even more stronger now that our fans love TOHOSHINKI.”
About their dorm tours
CM: “A little over two years, we were not in the same place with our fans, so when I watched recordings of our previous live performance, I felt that it was so surreal, or in other words, I felt as if I was having a dream far away.”
YH: “Just recently, I watched all TOHOSHINKI live tour videos.”
All of them!?
YH: “Yes, Yes, Yes! I watched TREE tour and Nissan concert too! The warm/kind spirit and energy of our fans are so strong that I missed them a lot and wanted to see them soon. Our communication with our fans are so natural.. well I am a member of TOHOSHINKI, but I thought that TOHOSHINKI’s show is really amazing!”
YH: “(while watching the video) Instead of dancing together, I was clapping my hands a lot. Oh… ho ho ho ho.. really enthusiastic, amazing, you make my heart feel warm..” (he got carried away and his tension was going up)
CM: “you were touched by how our fans are reacting to our performance, right?”
YH: “Yes, I was really moved by them.”
Chapter 2 from Output to Input (past two years)
CM: ”Hmm what did I learn/gain in these two years? Well, I am not so sure whether I can say this in confidence. For everyone, this is a routine. But the two of us had not have time to be with each other’s family so.. well we were able to spend more time with our family. As far as our hobby, we started to play golf. Yes, we got hooked to it and we are practicing hard.”
CM: “We plan to go out to play on a golf course for the first time!” ( an outside course with just the two of them)
YH: “In Korea, we have indoor practice places and the two of us go together. Changmin recommended me so I started late. When I find time, I practice golf.. but I think Changmin is better at it than me.”
CM: “No no, we are at the same level. Both of us are beginners.”
YH: “We need to bring a tons of gold balls as people around us said.”
CM: “We carry a quite few balls but when we do not have a ball, we take a ball out from our bags immediately. Its like Doraemon’s pocket.. we have never-ending supply of golf balls. We are like that.”
YH:”I watch a lot of famous movies or documentaries and study about my own editing and camera works. I download editing programs and using my cell phone, I have been making my own products.
YH:” It can be scenery.. dance.. or my solo performance.. its like Vlog. But I want to give some messages through my work or like a movie.. I want to create a new genre.. Someday I will try that.”
About being fluent in Japanese
YH:”When I have time, I watch Japanese Anime.. these days I can watch Japanese dramas on Netflix.. I am trying to refresh my Japanese.”
CM:”I am watching Anime, Haikyu‼ Hah--” (giving gesture of spiking volleyball)
YH: “I finished watching Haikyu‼ These days, I am so interested in Sumijiro-kun in Demon Slayer. I think he is just like me. Hahaha”
Yunho is more like Kyojyuro as passion Mansour.
YH: “Ah- Rengoku-san, right..Umai! (impersonating) I am really happy that you think that I am like him. Rengoku-san is passionate, has a strong sense of justice.. strong.. I really like him.”
About Epitaph
CM:”Yes, Epitaph the word itself has a heavy/sad image. But once I listened to the song, I could easily have an image that we can perform just like how we have being doing so far. I thought that this is a message song in which we wanted to convey our thoughts and our wish at this era/period.”
YH:”Under this pandemic, everyone is struggling.. we are going through a difficult time and we will move forward with a brand-new TOHOSHINKI .. our thoughts are one.. I am satisfied that this becomes a great song.”
About Like My Moon Like This
CM: “This song is based on the idea of a staff who wanted to create a song using a totally new plan/project. The idea is that if we mix/cross two songs together, we can create a new song.”
YH: “After Changmin and Yunho both have solo albums, then we move forward toward the final TOHOSHINKI.. I think you can feel the flow really easily by this song. All pieces together is TOHOSHINKI. We, TOHOSHINKI, will continue to challenge into a variety of (songs or performance).. I think we can convey our will to do that through this song..”
CM: “We are quite different but we become one in TOHOSHINKI and we perform on one stage … we will focus and do our best in our performance. I feel that (our performance) is linked to our actual images.”
YH: “It was an interesting work.”
CM:” Yes, Yes”
About young artists (competition?)
YH: “TOHOSHINKI has celebrated our 15 years anniversary but time has passed so quickly and we are still here working very hard. Of course, some new artists have shown a better performance than TOHOSHINKI and it is amazing to see them working hard. I am really happy to hear that they tell me that they are impressed that we have come this far. I do not consider them as our rivals, instead I feel that the most important thing is that we keep going.. and TOHOSHINKI will do our best to be on the TOHOSHINKI road.”
CM:” Each artist has a unique character and a taste of music. Of course, the sales of album or numbers/scored.. but I do not think that we compete with each other and care about the quality of music, like we are better than the other one. It is not like that. I think all of us study hard about our music and we evolve together.. like living creatures.. As Yunho just explained, instead of telling our juniors something.. we each study about others and we evolve together.. I think it is far more important that we show how we are evolving to our fans.”

Evan: Watch out!
The floor of the elevator suddenly tilts, the powerful force of the action knocking us into the wall. Evan raised a hand, bracing it against the wall while he used the other to shield me within his embrace.
The sound of screeching metal against metal rang out in the air as the elevator, which had originally stopped, continued plummeting once more!
The ear-piercing roar intensified, and all I could see were the red digits counting down with tremendous speed. Tears spilt forth from my eyes like a rushing stream.
My entire world spirals as the feeling of weightlessness crashed down upon my being, its clutches iron-clad. I closed my eyes in utter terror, my heart seemingly stopping.
Only one thought was reverberating in my mind: I don’t want to die like this!
❖☆———————————★❖
Tumblr media
Evan: Hold on tight.
The arm around my waist tightened its grip while the palm at the back of my head patted twice in reassurance.
The elevator was freezing and dark, yet this embrace was all-consuming and so very warm. It gradually calmed my panic-stricken heartbeats.
Evan: There’s no need to be afraid.
Evan kept his gaze firmly on the rapidly changing display panel within the darkness of the lift, a deep crease between his brows. An increasingly vibrant crimson hue flashes past his eyes.
As the crimson fades into nothingness, the elevator jolts thrice more before coming to a standstill.
Ba-thump, ba-thump…
A set of calm and panicked heartbeats resonated, ringing out within the small enclosed space.
❖☆———————————★❖
Evan: Okay. Everything's fine now.
I didn’t dare to see if the elevator would continue plummeting once more. My body stiffened, tightly coiled and unwilling to relax.
Then, a beam of light shone from a phone to the elevator’s door. It shook slightly from side to side.
Tumblr media
Evan: Does this make it a little better?
MC: Yeah…
I had yet to recover from the shock. I clung tightly onto his sleeves, nodding dazedly.
Evan: Don't be scared. We'll be able to get out soon, trust me.
He placed the phone into my hand. He then reached into his pocket, procuring two pen caps.
❖☆———————————★❖
Tumblr media
Evan slotted both pen caps onto each of his index fingers and crossed them. The shadow of a little rabbit was cast upon the halo of light shining against the elevator door.
As if frightened, the little rabbit trembled twice. Its two floppy long ears hung close to its body as it huddled against the ground.
❖☆———————————★❖
MC: This is a frightened rabbit.
Evan: Yes, well… It resembles your earlier self quite a bit.
He looked at me, a mischievous smile surfacing within his eyes.
Not wanting to lose out, I picked up the two pen caps and lifted them. The rabbit shadow cast upon the door suddenly became much more lively.
Tumblr media
MC: As if!
Evan: Then, why do you always seem to be in such a pickle whenever I see you?
I opened and closed my mouth, unable to formulate a response against that. The last time I met him, I was frantically trying to get out of the way of danger. And this time, the elevator broke down, and I even clung onto him so hard that his clothes were all crumpled and wrinkly...
In the end, I still needed him to comfort me.
MC: I definitely won't be in one the next time we meet.
Evan: Oh?
MC: I'm actually pretty brave! Normally… I just never expected an accident like this to befall us so suddenly out of nowhere.
Evan: It doesn't matter whether or not you're brave. You've still fared splendidly earlier.
His smile was filled with firm assurance. It made me subconsciously throw all fear and panic that I’d felt right out the window.
MC: You’ve been stuck here for so long. Wouldn’t it affect your work?
MC: You’re supposed to be preparing for the succession ceremony, aren't you? Yet, you ended up disappearing for so long.
Evan nodded, seemingly troubled.
MC: I can help vouch for you that we were stuck in the elevator if the CEO gets mad at you.
Tumblr media
Evan: Do you… know who's the CEO?
MC: Nope. Although, I’ve heard the others talk about how nice he is; about how he’s a gentleman and about how he’s very easy to approach.
MC: And about how he’s very hardworking. He arrives at the company earlier than everyone else and only leaves in the morning when everyone’s gone...
MC: But these are all rumours, so it’s bound to be a little exaggerated here and there.
The mirth in his eyes only grew.
Evan: Hmm… and?
MC: And I think he’s like Doraemon! Only in my head, of course.
MC: I hear that he can even magic out band-aids and bruises spray from his pocket in the dead of the night!
A warm smile slowly forms on his face. Looks like my words managed to amuse him well.

Tumblr media
Ding-dong!
The lights above us flashed twice before coming back to life, followed by the “ding” that denoted a floor arrival.
MC: We're saved?
❖☆———————————★❖
The elevator doors slowly slid open to reveal a well-built man. His eyes widened in surprise upon seeing us.
Tumblr media
??: ……!
Evan: Sorry. I have some business to tend to. Can Zhou Yan send you over instead?
MC: No need. You can just go on ahead, I’ll be fine by myself.
Evan nods and doesn’t say anything more.
I waved at him before running straight to the front desk.
❖☆———————————★❖
Tumblr media
To prevent the accident with the elevator from happening again, I reported the incident to the administration about how it had broken down earlier.

Tumblr media
Time passed quickly in the afternoon, and soon, it was almost time for the CEO’s succession ceremony to begin. The venue was already filled with people the moment I entered.
The media were all armed to the teeth with their mics and cameras at the ready as they all wanted to be the first ones to catch a glimpse of how the new CEO of the Warson Group looked like.
Hao Shuai: The back row's still empty. Let's move over. No one's gonna find out if we sleep in the back!
Li Man'man: I don't think that's a good idea…
Man With Quiff Hairstyle: When's this going to go on till? It's getting in the way of my work.
Brother Mao: See if anyone's gonna give you their time of the day here, Mr. Oh-I'm-so-serious.
Zheng Lin: We can't do that. The administration has already allocated seats for each Team. We're up front.
Brother Mao: Front seats are a win! I wanna see the true face of this mysterious CEO!
Everyone followed Zheng Lin, seating themselves in the front row.
The ceremony soon began. The announcer fixed up the mic. And after making a simple and brief introduction as an opening remark, the announcer raised his hand in a gesture for the next person to take the stage.
Announcer: Next, let us invite the new CEO of the Warson Group, Evan Lu, to speak!
Evan? I suddenly recalled the signature that had been beneath my offer from Warson.
Tumblr media
Evan: Good afternoon, everyone. I thank you all for taking the time to attend the ceremony today despite your busy schedules.
Evan: I am Evan, and I will be taking over as the new CEO of the Warson Group.
I thought I’d misheard him. I dumbfoundedly raised my head.
It felt as if everything around me had gone out of focus. All I could see was the bright stage with all its brilliant lights and the man who stood in the centre of it.
My saviour from the Café back then; the one who comforted me back in the elevator, and the person currently standing on the stage… They were the one and the same.
I can't believe he's the CEO…
But now that I think about it; it all made sense. It was only logical for him to have been near the show venue of the competition if he was the Warson Group's new CEO. And it would make sense why he'd told me that he was preparing for the succession ceremony earlier as well.
Who would've thought that this was how everything played out to be...
Dumbfounded, I stared up at Evan. Those calm and bright eyes of his cut through the crowd and faced me, as if our minds were one.
It was alight with a warmth akin to the one that had been reflected within his eyes in the darkness of the elevator.
I was still stupefied by the time the succession ceremony came to a close and everyone left.
It was then that a cup of coffee appeared before me.
MC: … This is?
Tumblr media
Zhou Yan: I'm Zhou Yan, Mr. Lu's assistant. We apologize for the scare you had earlier. This is from him.
He slipped the coffee into my grasp without a word before turning and disappearing into the crowd.
There was a familiar logo on the coffee cup. It was from the Café that Evan and I had met.
It was just like an inadvertent reminder that no matter what his identity, that wouldn't change the moments we'd shared before this day.
Tumblr media
MC: Thank you, Doraemon.

Links or credits to this post when the content is reposted or captured in other SNS are appreciated ------ (First part here) (Second part here) *They are discussing the pic in which Die and Shinya are at the airport playing with a baggage scale* Joe: When you go overseas, you don’t care about what other people think or things you would care about in Japan….it’s not a concern… Toshiya: That’s true. Joe: It’s like…you act without restraints…. Toshiya: Well, as expected, sometimes it happens…. Joe: That’s it….in Japan you feel everyone’s eyes on you…. Toshiya: But, even now,  things like this are like an everyday scene…. Joe: That is rather, Dir en grey’s… Toshiya: That’s it, that’s it… Joe: I see. Conversely…somehow, an overseas episode….ah! are you ok with the beer? Do you have enough?... Toshiya: I’m fine… Joe: I hope they can bring another one for you…..I’d like you to have another one….so please *asking the staff*….so, about overseas…in addition to the story you just told about the photo….I’d like to ask you about any interesting episode of Dir en grey at overseas… Toshiya: An interesting episode? Joe: It’s already….wasn’t about this time last year that you were overseas? Toshiya: That’s it….January and February…. That’s right… Joe: Exactly Toshiya: At the time we were in Europe… Joe: I wonder if you could imagine that something like this could happen (Corona) Toshiya: But well, I’m glad that we could go to Europe even at that time. Joe: Indeed. Some episode from that European tour….it was about that time right? (Corona) Toshiya: It was a bit before? Joe: Ah, it was before… Toshiya: Mostly, everytime when we go, there are interesting stuff happening… Joe: How was it when you went abroad for the first time? Toshiya:  The first time? With Dir en grey? Joe: That’s it….because before there weren’t many overseas activities…. Toshiya: That's right, first we went on an Asian tour….we went to Korea, Shanghai, Hong Kong, etc…that’s it…..it was really interesting/fun….it was about the time of Kisou… Joe: Is that so? That was your first time overseas…. Toshiya: It was really fun… Joe: Ah…..several things….ah! the sunglasses….like they said before “take off the sunglasses”…..you guys are really acting like spoiled kids!!! Toshiya: Like spoiled kids….really spoiled… Joe: You all are spoiled kids! ….to take his sunglasses off….how is it called? Gifts? Use the gifts…send gifts! *Joe is talking with a heavy Yakuza accent* *Gifts are a niconico feature similar to Youtube’s stickers* Toshiya laughs Toshiya: So scary… Joe: Ah ah, they are coming....they are there....*niconico gifts appear on screen* Toshiya: Scary… Joe: A bit…..I sound like a Yakuza…please write more comments for Toshiya….your thoughts about Toshiya…I’m sorry everyone… with this little amount of comments….”Take them off!”…. Toshiya: So scary… Joe: I’m sorry…I’m trying to negotiate with him….thank you for your comments….those sunglasses….*reading the comments* Do you want me to take them off? That’s not ok because of the social distance right?...he has to take them off by himself…..why don’t you take them off, Toshiya? Tell us! Toshiya: *laughs* somehow….isn’t this coercion?......*laughs*….scary… Joe: It’s the alcohol…..the combination of me with alcohol is not good… Toshiya: Joe Yokomizo’s channel is scary… Joe: I’m sorry! Is it ok for you if we pass this topic?.... Toshiya’s sunglasses…..see….everyone, please write comments showing your love for Toshiya…..maybe if he feels loved/satisfied…it doesn’t feel like it yet… Toshiya: Satisfied, right? That’s interesting… Joe: If he feels satisfied/content…..he will take the sunglasses off… if he feels satisfied it would be great…. “I like Toshiya so much”….write comments!....*Toshiya laughs* “Don’t you eat icecream?”…. Do you like ice-cream? Toshiya: I do Joe: I feel like you don’t eat sweet things at all…. Toshiya: I like sweet stuff… Joe: Is that so? What do you like? I like custard ice cream to death… Toshiya: Ohhh! I like custard as well….I like anko ice cream…. * Anko  is a Japanese sweet red bean paste made from azuki beans.* Joe: You like anko? Toshiya: Yes Joe: *makes a weird face* Ehhhh…. That’s a bit…. Toshiya: My grandmother made it…. Joe: I see! Toshiya: That’s it Joe: Ehhh…. Toshiya: I like things that are usually liked by elders…. Joe: With that look you have/looking like that……and you like anko….*surprised* Toshiya: When I was a little kid I was still innocent…*Joe laughs* A cute child… Joe: A cute child… Toshiya: I got fully dirty now, though…. Joe: But that’s fine….because you are a rock and roller….”Do you like dried persimmon?” Toshiya: I do Joe: Do you like things like Taiyaki and so? Toshiya: I like Taiyaki… Joe: There are places in Tokyo in which Taiyaki is delicious… Toshiya: It is delicious Joe: Do you have any place you like? I really like a place in Yotsuya…have you tried it there? Toshiya: I don’t know that place…. Joe: It’s delicious there…if you go to Youtsuya, it’s really delicious….then, in Azabu… Toshiya: Ah! At Juban, it’s delicious too… Joe: Isn’t it?  Still, it’s one….two hundred yen per piece…. Toshiya: That’s expensive…. Joe: It’s expensive…it’s seems that the taiyaki there is 200 yen…recently taiyaki is expensive… Toshiya: That’s right… Joe: Since when did taiyaki become this popular/famous? At our times there was only Oyoge! Taiyaki-kun. *Oyoge! Taiyaki-kun  is a song by Japanese singer Masato Shimon released in 1975* Toshiya: *Laughs*  Oyoge! Taiyaki-kun feels so nostalgic…. Joe: It feels nostalgic…. Oyoge! Taiyaki-kun….did you sing it? Toshiya: Everyday…*he refers to the the first word of the lyrics* Joe: *sings*Every day, every day, we are getting fried ♫….. Toshiya: That is…..somehow….like imitating Shinya’s way of talking….it always feel like everyone is imitating him… Joe: Is that so? Everyone can do it!....*sings again* Every day, every day♫ With the exception of the chorus, do you sing? Toshiya: Well…I’m not really good at it… Joe: No,no,no…. Toshiya: It’s embarrassing… Joe: This is going to be my unreasonable request….I want you to sing… Toshiya: No,no,no…what do you mean with that? Joe: I don’t know Toshiya: *Laughs* What do you mean? Joe: I want you to sing….look! look! *points at the comments* Toshiya: It’s like…. Giant’s tone deafness… *Giant or Takeshi Goda  is a character from Doraemon. His signing is known for being horrible and loud* Joe: Giant is hopeless….I already have alcohol hitting me…..you too……isn’t it ok?....see! *points at the comments* Everyone wants that… Toshiya: No,no….it’s still soon… Joe: It’s still soon….it is soon…”Take the sunglasses off and then sing”…..*pointing and yelling* Wonderful!!!.... all the stuff you are writing now is amazing…. Toshiya finished his beers and squeezes the can. Toshiya: Another one… Joe: Another one, please…..let’s do a survey…. Off camera, you can hear Toshiya thanking someone for the beer. Joe: Let’s do it….what do people want? That you take your sunglasses off or sing….or that you sing a song….let’s check with them….let’s do that…..”Joe, you are doing an amazing job” thank you so much… Toshiya laughs. Joe: When I drink I am able to do my job….*Joe Laughs*….Toshiya didn’t know about what this section of the program....´ Toshiya: It’s scary….this program is really scary… Joe: Now as due to Corona, we don’t have many chances to laugh… Toshiya: That’s true…that’s why… Joe: Isn’t that something that we can do now? Toshiya: That’s true…I think that’s the best….if you can laugh…. Joe: For real…I really want to see everyone smiling… Toshiya: That’s true….well….I really appreciate it…. Joe: Of course, you can go to the film screening for that….but today is today!....so if you take your sunglasses off….everyone will be smiling….*Toshiya is drinking so he doesn’t reply* Eh….if you sing Oyage! Taiyaki kun…..well we haven’t decided which song they want you to sing but…if you sing….even if it is just a bit of a chorus…that’s fine too….”Both”….they want one option (of the survey) with both things….that’s a bit… Toshiya: That’s really…you all are really greedy…. Joe:  You are saying that…..*points at the comments* they are asking for it again… Toshiya: The money you dropped (paid) is not enough….*laughs* Joe: You would dare to say….not enough money… Toshiya: A beautiful Giant will come out…. *Beautiful Giant is the handsome version of Giant* Joe: It will come out….which option will be the most voted? The sunglasses or the singing….maybe both….but that you all subscribed to the channel was good….well, I don’t know… Toshiya: You don’t know….*laughs* Joe: I don’t know though….let’s do the survey….what do you want to see?...for me….that’s it…..it’s ok…I can’t say much more… *The survey appears on screen* Joe reads the four options. Joe: First one, “take off the sunglasses, second “sing”, third “take the sunglasses and then sing”, fourth, “Joe Yokomizo takes his glasses off”… that’s a good one….the fourth option…if the fourth one is the most voted, I will take my glasses off and sing…. Toshiya: Is that so? Joe: I’ll sing… Toshiya: But (the option) just says that you take your glasses off… Joe: Ah, “take the glasses off”….you are right…. Toshiya: But it’s ok if you want to do it…. Joe:Well, then I’m getting rid of my glasses…..well, the comments….the flow of the comments….write in the comments what you want….first, Toshiya takes his sunglasses off, second he sings, third he takes them off and sing, fourth I take my glasses off…..some people are writing “4” are you guys for real?....did you really pay 500 yen to see me taking my glasses off?....what are you guys doing?....spend your money properly, morons….*Joe and Toshiya laughs*….so, the results of the survery are coming…..here they are…. Don! *The results appear on screen* Joe: They are here! *Toshiya laughs hard* “Take the sunglasses off” 18.3%, “Sing” 11.1% *Joe starts yelling* “Take the sunglasses off and sing” 66.1%, “Joe takes his glasses off” 4.4%...there are a 4% of morons….after this, I’m so sorry Toshiya but “take your sunglasses off and sing” it’s the clear winner! Toshiya: Isn’t it? Joe: That’s what I thought…this….it’s unavoidable….everyone around this time…. their hearts are already rotten… Toshiya: No, no….don’t rot don’t rot… Joe: That can’t be helped….so, for everyone…. take your sunglasses off and let’s sing… Toshiya laughs. Joe: By the way….what was the first cd you bought?....ah, at that time there were already cds? There were right?.... Toshiya: The first one I bought….the first one I bought myself was a cassette…. Joe: A cassette? Toshiya: The first one that my parents bought for me was…a LP record though… Joe: I see… Toshiya: The first one I bought with my pocket money was a cassette…. Joe: By the way, do you remember which one was? If you can remember….. Toshiya: The cassette? Joe: The cassette….or it is embarrassing to say so…. Toshiya: No, I’m very embarrased but…..*laughs*Well…..it was Wink’s Ai ga tomaranai (Love doesn’t stop)….. *Wink was a pretty popular J-pop female duo in the late 1980s and early-to-mid-1990s* Joe: No way…. Joe burst into laughter and even stands up laughing Joe: I’m sorry I laughed a bit….would it be possible that you take your sunglasses off and sing Ai ga tomaranai? Toshiya: No….stop it… Joe: I won’t….is this first time you tell this? Toshiya: I wonder…. I don’t know…. Joe: Oh!  *Joe starts humming the song* Toshiya: Yes, yes, yes…..that’s it… Joe: Like that…..it was a cover, right? Toshiya: It’s a cover… Joe: Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Toshiya: It’s Ai ga tomaranai…. Joe: The first cassette that Toshiya from Dir en grey bought was….Wink!.....Ai ga tomaranai….*Toshiya laughs* This is going to be breaking news tomorrow and spreading everywhere- Toshiya: *Laughs*….Ah, I’m sweating a lot… Joe: You are….I can totally see it from here…..well, ai ga…..well, let’s do a survey about what song they want you to sing…..*Toshiya is laughing and fanning himself hard* Toshiya: No,no… Joe: First option is going to be “Ai ga tomaranai” (Love doesn’t stop)…. Toshiya: More like, Joe Yomomizo doesn’t stop…. Joe burst into laughter, Toshiya picks the notebook in which he wrote the kanji before to fan himself. Toshiya:  It’s hot….. Joe: Then, for example….like, was there a theme from a television program that you liked? Toshiya: The LP that my parents bought for me…. Joe: Ah, that one? Toshiya: It was  Kaibutsu-kun’s…. *Kaibutsu-kun (Monster kid) is a japanese manga and a anime series* Joe: Kaibutsu-kun? Toshiya: It was Kaibutsu-kun…. Joe: Eh…..it was a song that you liked…. Toshiya: I like it….yes… Joe: Until now, we got “Ai ga tomaranai”, Kaibutsu-kun….the first time you covered  a song with a band…. Toshiya: The first time I covered with a band?....the first time.….with the bass? Joe: With the bass…..anything is ok actually… Toshiya: Eh….with the bass….the first one was Ziggy…. Joe: Ziggy!!?? Toshiya: Yes…. Ziggy’s Gloria…. Joe: Ehh….that’s such a good song… Toshiya: That’s it…. Joe: *starts humming Gloria* Toshiya: It was Gloria….but that I knew it by heart….since the beginning until the end….the first one I covered was….Luna Sea… Joe: Ohh! Which song? Toshiya: I think it was “Jesus”… Joe: was it “Jesus?”….ahhhhhh…..now we have 4 options…. Toshiya: *burst into laughter* No,no….stop it… Joe: “Ai ga tomaranai”….*Toshiya says “stop it” off screen*….”Kaibutsu-kun”…..”Gloria” and….”Jesus”….they are so many….what we can do?... we are going to take a survey…. Toshiya: No,no… Joe: Which one do they want… Toshiya: These people….”sing Jesus”….don’t say that… Joe: Toshiya is getting a little bit pissed off….but everyone is going to lose (if he gets mad)…. Toshiya: No,no…. Joe: So, let’s write comments so he does it….let’s make him song the song…..because I’m your comrade…. Toshiya: You are really getting carried away….it’s so hot here….*starts fanning himself* Joe: No,no…*laughs*…well….we are going to take a survey…. Toshiya: Is it ok if I just take off the sunglasses? Joe: We are going to check it… Toshiya: *Pointing at the comments* They are ok with that….so kind… Joe: Indeed….but we are going to ask them as before….everyone is going to say which song they want you to sing….so the next time….today you are going to take your sunglasses off…and the next time you come to the program, you can be ready for it… Toshiya laughs Joe: Next time…you sing….today you are going to take the sunglasses off….and the next time…I don’t know when yet….after the new single is released…more or less… Toshiya: I see Joe: I’ll listen to it and…. Toshiya: *laughs* You are going to sing too? Joe: I will….I’m bad at singing too…. Toshiya: I see…..it’s really hard…. Joe: It is!  the sounds are really hard… Toshiya: It really is…..really hard… Joe; I think everyone has to do something interesting….if you are here we have to create content right?....but after all, don’t people like these kinds of unreasonable requests?....let’s take a look and do the survey… which song do you want to hear? That's why I think doing a  survey is better. ”It would be nice to play the covered song as well”….more and more requests are coming…so selfish…. Toshiya: *laughs* Really? Joe: You guys are really greedy!....don’t get so carried away…. Toshiya: But really….I was really bad at covering songs… Joe: Ah Toshiya: But….Ziggy’s Toshiro,  Luna Sea’s J, X Japan’s Taiji…. many people from that time onwards….there were so many (amazing bassists) Joe: That’s true… Toshiya: I was really happy… Joe: That’s true… but you are trying to escape from this starting a good conversation…. Toshiya burst into laughter Joe: For the time being, this is a preparatory step for the next time you come to the program….if Toshiya takes off his sunglasses, there won’t be a musical performance….just singing….all these songs are meaningful  for Toshiya…there is a meaning in singing them….the first one he bought the cassette himself, the second is first LP bought by his parents, the first time he covered a song was Gloria, and the first time he was able to get to cover a song properly it was “Jesus”….if he takes off his sunglasses and sing in a performance, which song do you want to listen to? You will be asked that in the survey…..the state of emergency (in Japan) is still going on,  everyone is accumulating dissatisfaction in their hearts….I hope you all are going to put your heart into this survey…. An urgent survey….the results of it are….here….here they are….don!....”Ai ga tomaranai” got a 29.5%,  Kaibutsu-kun got a 15.9%, “Gloria” got a 13.1% and “Jesus” got a 41.5%.... Toshiya: You sound like “Top ten songs”….. *”Top ten songs was a japanese radio program that ranked the most popular songs at the 80s. Tokumitsu was one of the host of the program* Joe: Suddenly I sound like Tokumitsu….. Toshiya: How nostalgic…. Joe: At the showa era… Toshiya: The way they said the score…. Joe: Like with emotion….*makes drums sound*….It was like that at showa…so now…the results of the survey is “Jesus” at 1st position… Toshiya: That’s right… Joe: As today I already made  many unreasonable requests….this can’t be done today…so for today, you are taking off your sunglasses….the next time….please come again…for promotion….during the promotion period when the single is released…. Toshiya: Of course….of course is it a promotion offer right? Joe: Of course!  You can use that chance for promotion, it’s fine. We will do it properly…and after this, you take off your sunglasses…. Toshiya: You keep working hard until the end…. Joe: No,no….I’ll get angry if I don’t do this properly….because this is my channel so it’s like….what am I going to do… Toshiya: But after all….it’s fun… Joe: That’s right…. I don’t know you well but we had a drink once after a live and it was really fun….it was so fun…. Toshiya: Yes… Joe: I’ve been wanting to invite you after that, so we exchanged our contact info but… Toshiya: We did… it was due to the timing, right? You are really busy… Joe: No,no,no….it’s mostly that I’m poor so I have no free time….But we are now doing this program because we both had time,  but with Corona going on... Toshiya: I wanted to go out for a meal but it’s hard to invite you now… Joe: That’s why, when the state of emergency is over again and the situation improves, I’d like to go out for a meal with you….I understand….you keep writing about the sunglasses *pointing at the comments* “Just a glimpse is ok”… at the end of the program…. Toshiya: I see Joe: There is another last section for the end. We asked you to make questions for Toshiya and I’m going to ask him  those. Yes, he is going to take the sunglasses off. I’m 52 years old and a half and even if I’m growing senile and don’t remember yesterday either but I will remember that he has to take his sunglasses properly… Toshiya: That’s it. I will take them off properly. (Fourth Part)

Anime I have already watched:

/!\ Some of these do contain triggering topics please proceed with caution( bc I did not mention for every single one what it is about and the genre. In the near future I might or not I'll see...)
You will also find in-between parentheses my opinion about anime as well as me exposing myself, if it's mature bl(boys love) or not and some trigger warning too labelled like this /!\ + the content it deals with.

Summer Crushes
Tumblr media
A/n: so.....this gif screams camp counselor so I had too. It aint gonna be long but I had to do it (not thoroughly edited sryyyy) (should I start a general tag list? for like all my posts?)
Tagging: @hyunsunq @blueismacolour
Warnings: FREAKING FLUFFLY JISUNg with kids, like one or two curse words
Word Count: 3.2k
Summary: Y/n and Jisung are stuck in the middle of a problem, as well as about twenty rambunctious children. They both like each other but are kept apart by the strict rules of their summer jobs as camp counselors. How do they go about making sure their feelings are not overlooked?
Genre: non-idol au, romance, pure fluff, camp!au, camp counselor!au, college!au
Summer. Arguably the best season. The sun beat down on my shoulders as I ushered my little girls from the mess hall. This was the third summer I had worked as a camp counselor. It was a great way for me to earn money while my classes were out for the summer.
“Ara, Hyejin, get  your backpacks girls!” I said corralling the two eight year olds back into the group. My walkie talkie went off notifying me the bus was pulling into the front of the campgrounds.
“Hey! Y/n!” A voice called out to me from across the clearing.
I turned with a smile, immediately recognizing the deep, smooth sound. “Jisung!” He smiled and jogged over to me, leaving his campers with our friend Chan. My heart skipped a beat seeing his bright smile and messy dusty blonde hair bouncing towards me. “Hi,”
He looked me up and down before giving a quick wave to my campers. “Are you excited about the trip today?” He stood a step below me, his hands on his hips. We were taking the campers to an amusement part and then staying the night up in the mountains.
“Yeah, I am!”
Jisung smiled as a little girl pulled on my sleeve. He watched with happy eyes as I helped her tighten the straps of her backpack. “Did you get the seating chart for the bus?” He nodded and pulled a sheet out of his jeans pocket.
His fingers brushed against mine as the paper traded hands. Jisung smirked seeing the blush on my cheeks when I quickly pulled away. It was no secret that we both liked each other. Jisung was a great guy. He was intelligent (most of the time), funny, and the best with kids. Jisung and I even attended the same college, we had discovered.
The problem was, there was a strict rule against counselor fraternization. The camp was very serious about relationships between counselors. Jisung didn’t exactly make this the easiest rule to follow.
My eyes scanned over the chart and I felt Jisung’s stare on me, making my little girls whisper and giggle. “Why is my name scratched out in the front of the bus?” I asked. Did the office kick me off the trip? Jisung came up onto my step, leaning over my shoulder to read the paper. I tried to still my beating heart.
“Oh- I think you were just moved. I’ll ask, Mr. Park.” He said in a happy voice, taking the roster back. “Buses are loading in twenty minutes!” He called over his shoulder. I watched Jisung’s form jog over to the front office.
“Y/n, do you have a crush on Jisung?” One of the little girls asked, crossing her arms very sassily. I turned to find a militia of about nine eight year olds behind her. All of them waiting to hear a story about Jisung sweeping me off my feet, like a prince wielding a marshmallow stick sword. “One of the boys told me that Jisung likes you.” The girl said cocking her hip out.
Doing my best to stifle a laugh I crouched down to their level. In interest, they all leaned as if drawn to a magnet. “Promise not to tell anyone?” They all nodded, resembling little bobble-head toys. I nodded my head ‘yes’ and gave them a wink. The little girls squealed and cheered.
“Come on, girls. Let’s head to the bus.”
My feet pounded against the rocky uneven pavement as I did my best to keep up with the girls. When we finally reached the other end of camp we found some of the boys helping Chan load up the bus.
“Hey, girls! Why don’t you give us your bags and get on the bus?” They squealed and handed off their things. Chan smiled at me and held his hand up for a high five. “Lia is already on the bus. Apparently, she’s taking the front station.” He said as my hand clapped against his.
“Thanks, Chris!” With a smile, I managed to get the girls onto the bus with no bickering about seats. “Remember girls in the front and boys will be in the back!” I called. Lia reached up for a high five as I passed her seat behind the driver.
“I’ll take attendance when the boys get on.” She said, setting up her pillow against the window.
After thanking her I shuffled through the tiny aisle to the middle of the bus. My hips bumping up against the sides of the seat, my body becoming a pinball. When I got to the middle of the bus I threw my bag and pillow into the two seats and looked across the row. A black bag and pillow with Doraemon on it lay in the window seat. A guitar case was tucked under the cushions of the bus seat as well.
“So that’s why my name was crossed out from the front,” I whispered to myself.
After a few minutes, a loud clunk shook the bus and little boys started stampeding past me. “Hey! Don’t run! I swear to god, Dongmin, if I have to put another freaking bandaid on you, there are gonna be no snack privileges for the rest of the day!” A familiar voice called out into the long vehicle.
His familiar long fingers found a place on the seat in front in front of me. “Hey, cutie,” Jisung whistled down to me with a wink. He swung himself into the seat across from me. His legs being too long for the seat propped themselves onto mine across the aisle.
“You sneaky bastard.”
“Y//n there are children present,” Jisung said with a cheeky smile. We both ignored the sound of Lia calling roll as we stared at each other across the row. I brought my legs up onto the seat to sit cross legged, flinching as my bare leg brushed against the metal buckle of the seat. Smirking, my hands reached for his shoes and started untying his laces. “Yah- hey! Stop!” He said with a laugh trying to pull away.
When he finally managed to pull his feet back over, he sighed knowing he would have to untie a very difficult knot that joined his shoes together. I almost died laughing when the bus started moving and his head banged against the seat in front of him.
“Jisung, how long is the ride going to be?” A little boy asked peeking over my seat.
“About two hours,” I said, Jisung shooting me a playful glare. The little boy thanked me and I watched Jisung sit back up in his seat, putting his backpack between his legs. His hand placed itself on the empty seat beside him and his fingers drummed against the cushion. I laughed turning to the scenery flying past us. “Is that a hint or something?”
“Just come sit with me already.” He whined.
Jisung’s frown was replaced with a grin as I stood up, grabbing my pillow and started moving towards the aisle. Chan shot me a look from the back of the bus and then rolled his eyes with a smile. He couldn’t say anything without being a hypocrite. He was totally sneaking out after hours to see the cute girl who worked in Arts and Crafts.
The second my butt touched the seat Jisung’s arm wrapped around me pulling me into his side. “Could you be more obvious?” I asked quietly, looking up at him and hugging my pillow. An impish smile crept onto his lips and he shrugged before taking my hand and lacing his fingers with mine. In a feeble attempt to hide it, he just tucked them under my pillow and pulled my legs over onto his lap. “Jisung this doesn’t help at all.”
“It helps me.” He whispered in my ear, goosebumps crawling up my arms and legs. His thumb brushed over my knuckle sending a smile onto my face. The bus eventually quieted down. Nothing like a long drive that could knock out a few kids for an hour or two. “Did you sign up for classes yet?” Jisung asked, adjusting so his head rested against the window and I was leaning almost on his chest.
I nodded, enjoying the way it felt to be with him. “I’m going to be doing full time next semester. Did you get the schedule you wanted?” He nodded and I could feel the rumble of a laugh in his chest. We kept our voices low so as not to wake the sleeping kids around us.
“I finally got all my core done last year so I can focus on stuff for my major and I have more time set aside for the studio.”
It felt so easy to talk to Jisung. Like I had known him for years and not just a month or two. We talked about anything and everything. From our lives outside of the camp to the worst pizza place we had ever been too. Eventually, Jisung’s radiating warmth and his soft voice lulled me to sleep. He didn’t complain when I snuggled further into his chest. Soon, he followed me and rested his head against the window arm still around me and hand still tangled with my fingers.
Laughter filled the air as our group of twenty kids burst through the gates of an amusement park like cattle on a stampede. Chan raced to a bench the kids surrounding him. “Okay! We are going to split up into two groups! Lia and I will take half of you and Y/n and Jisung will take the other! Have fun guys and stay with your counselors!” Chan shouted through a microphone.
Jisung smiled at me from across the sea of eight year olds before making his way over. Our group of ten kids (five girls and five boys) surrounded us waiting for instructions.
“Okay, everybody! Who’s ready to have fun?” Jisung cheered his eyes sparkling. A loud cheer erupted from our group and we headed off into the park. A little boy, whose name was Jihyun I believe, held onto my hand as we walked through the park. “Y/n,” Jisung called out. My heart skipped a beat at the sight in front of me.
One of the little girls from my group, Ara, clung to Jisung’s back, her arms around his neck. His hands securely held onto her legs as he carried her a bright smile on his face. “Y/n, should we go do games first or rides?” Stilling my heart, I pulled out the map I had gotten near the front.
“Let’s do games and then we can eat lunch.” He nodded before gleefully running with the kids towards the games. Jihyun and I ran to catch up. For the next hour, we watched the kids play all the carnival games and helped if we were needed.
I felt a tap on my shoulder. “Wanna play a game with me?” Jisung asked holding out his hand. His eyes lit up when I took it. “Come on,” The boy said, blonde hair bouncing as he tugged me across the walkway to a game booth.
“How many?” The attendant asked. Jisung pulled out his wallet and handed the man enough for six throws.
His hand brushed mine, intentionally of course, when he handed me the balls. I could see it in his eyes when our fingers touched. He motioned for me to go first. My first throw at the five stacked bottles was terrible. Jisung did his best not to laugh when I almost hit the attendant. The second throw knocked away two bottles.
I huffed in frustration. “You want help?” Jisung asked, already coming over behind me. His hand came over mine, the other on my waist. I turned my head, leaving only a few inches between his face and mine. “Y/n, I know I’m very attractive but you have to look at the bottles.” He teases. I was very tempted to elbow him in the stomach, but I like the feeling of Jisung holding onto me.
Jisung whispered in my ear how to best aim for my last shot. The ball left my hand and hit the center of the stack sending another two bottles flying. However, there was still one left standing. “Oh well,” I said with a shrug. Jisung’s hands slid away from my waist.
“Don’t worry, babe,” Jisung said sending a wink my way. He took three of the balls from the attendant and waited for him to reset the bottles. Jihyun ran over and held onto the back of my shirt. I smiled and patted his head before turning back to Jisung. He made a big show of rolling up his sleeves and blowing a kiss to me. His first shot powerfully flew through the center of the stack sending all but two bottles onto the floor.
Jihyun and I cheered as Jisung readied his second throw. The muscles in his arm flexed as his hand let loose the ball. The bottles were sent crashing to the floor. Jisung did a little happy dance before he looked at the prizes. “Uhh...Give me that one up there, please.” He asked politely.
The man got down the toy and Jisung turned to me with a cheeky smile. A blush spread across my cheeks when he handed me the teddy bear with a red bow tie. “For me?” I asked. He nodded his ears turning a little red when I took the prize with a happy smile.
“Can I get a little kiss in return?” He asked puckering his lips and closing his eyes. Jihyun laughed and covered his eyes. I turned around to see Ara and her friend giggling at the scene.
“Sure.”
His eyes shot open when I said ‘yes’. “Wait- what?” He stuttered, watching me step forward and place a kiss on his cheek.
“Hey, kids! It’s time for lunch!” I called leaving Jisung standing by himself a blushing mess.
The rest of the day was spent taking the kids on rides. Much to Jisung’s displeasure. I had no idea how afraid of rollercoasters he was until he clung onto me screaming for his life on the first ride. It was the swinging boat. I found it very cute though.
With exhausted kids, we all boarded back on the bus to drive up into the mountains. Thankfully, it wasn’t a long trip. Jisung and Chan stayed behind to set up camp while Lia and I took the kids to watch the sunset.
When we returned the boys had fully set up not only the kids and counselor tents but they had gotten a fire started as well. After a quick dinner, the kids sat around the fire while Jisung played his guitar.
Our voices lifted up into the sky mingling with the stars as we sang along. Jisung looked over to me, sitting against a log with a sleepy Jihyun leaning on my shoulder. He smiled and continued to play more songs for the kids.
Before it got too late and the bugs came out, Lia and I put all the kids in the tents and to sleep. Lia stayed with the kids, her eyes starting to close as she read them a story. Instead of remaining in the tent, I chose to go outside and clean up the campsite.
My ears picked up on laughter coming from the boys' tent. I turned to see shadows dancing against the canvas and Jisung’s unmistakable voice floating into the mountain air. He was telling some dramatic story about a super kangaroo and a heroic squirrel saving the world from giant man-eating squid.
When the lights in both tents had been turned out I started to extinguish the campfire. The sound of a tent unzipping joined the symphony of crickets and wind.
“Hey, don’t put it out just yet.”
Jisung stepped out of the tent, almost tripping with his foot caught on the fabric. “Be careful,” I said between laughs. He carefully closed the tent and shuffled over to the campfire. He lowered himself onto the ground, resting his back against a log. “That was a cute story,” I said packing up some of the dinner supplies.
“What story?” He asked, looking up at me with cute eyes.
“The one you just told the boys.”
Jisung blushed, and lowered his head, his arms draping over his knees. “You heard that?” With a nod and a laugh, I sat next to him, our shoulders touching. After a moment Jisung pushed the heat away from his full cheeks. It took all my will power not to roll my eyes when he yawned and draped an arm over the back of the log, his hand brushing the other side of my shoulder.
“Oh...very smooth, Han.”
“Can't go wrong with a classic.” He joked, stretching out one of his legs.
I turned to find him already looking at me, the fire dancing in his eyes creating a new kind of glow. “You’re really good at playing the guitar,” I whispered, looking into his eyes.
“You have really beautiful eyes.” He said tilting his head, blonde hair falling in front of his dark brown stare. Goosebumps were crawling up my arms.
“You are really good with kids...” My voice trailed off at the end. I was unable to keep my gaze from drifting to Jisung’s plump lips, which were just barely lifted up into a smile.
“Your smile drives me crazy,” Jisung whispered, leaning closer to me.
My teeth dragged over my lip, bringing his focus fully down to my mouth. “Jisung there is a rule about counselors dating.” He smiled knowing I was more trying to convince myself than him.
“Who said anything about dating right now? I was just going to kiss you.”
My heart hammered against my chest. “You are such an idiot,” I said keeping our little staring game going. Jisung let out a breathy laugh leaning even closer.
“After camp ends can I be your idiot?”
“Can you possibly keep your hands to yourself for that long?”
He looked up at the sky, pretending to think. “You know what...I don’t actually know.” I laughed and tried to ignore the feeling of my heart jumping when his hand brushed over my shoulder. “Even if I couldn’t, I don’t think it would change your answer.” An impish smirk slid onto his lips.
The same smirk from when we met at the beginning of the summer after he dumped an entire bucket of water balloons on me. The little mischievous smile sent butterflies flying in crazy patterns in my stomach.
“Fuck it. Just kiss me already.”
Impatiently I took his face in my hands and slammed my lips against his. The skin on his cheeks was soft, and I could feel the sharp line of his jaw under my hand as his lips danced over mine. Though I had made the first move, Jisung quickly took the lead.
My fingers played with the ends of his blonde hair when leaned and deepened the kiss. His lips dragged over mine at a painstakingly slow pace, sending my senses into overdrive.
Jisung pulled away, his eyes fluttering open along with mine. He grinned keeping himself as close to me as possible. My hands slid back down to rest on his jaw.
“Yeah...I don’t think I can go all summer without that again.” Jisung leaned back in smiling against my lips through the kiss.
Requests are open my lovelies! Just send an ask!

Medium & Marketing for 90′s Anime Dubs
Today is Hayao Miyazaki’s 80th birthday, which made sure my dash was filled with Ghibli tidbits. A discussion of my personal favourite, Kiki’s Delivery Service, brought up its ill-fated original dub by Disney in 1998. Ghibli still didn’t have the courage yet to put their foot down on changes for international releases, and so there are a lot of alterations - the theme songs are changed to be anglicized, almost any “dead space” or quiet moments in the film have someone (normally animal sidekick Jiji the cat) improv lines over the scenes to liven them up, and in particular the ending is changed to be less bittersweet as Jiji, who in the original Kiki permanently loses the ability to talk to as a sign of growing up, regains his voice.
These changes slot neatly into the zeitgeist of all 90′s anime changes - a disregard for the property’s core appeal as they were bowdlerized for a western audience. Sailor Moon is an infamous victim of a similar process - at least Kiki took place in fantasy Europe, the Sailor Moon dub’s attempts to pretend that the show doesn’t take place in Japan were simply insane as they cut out or blurred every appearance of Japanese writing in the show, leaving reams of animation frames on the floor in the process.
(Tangent time: the greatest scene ever is one where, upon reading a note by Usagi, to prove it was her Minako/Sailor Venus comments “it must be from her, its written entirely in hiragana”, the simpler form of written Japanese compared to kanji, which Usagi as a running gag cannot write. So in the dub they just...blur out the text of the note, and have Minako comment “I had to read it with my imagination. It's all written in funny symbols!". I distinctly remember watching the episode live when I was 12 years old and going “wait what the fuck does that even mean?” and suddenly realizing that the show was changing its own script, it was a trip of a moment)
Like most people I do malign these changes, but I am actually here to partially defend them via contextualization. The idea that American audiences would have cared that the show was Japanese is pretty dumb, but what you often hear are statements like “kids in Japan appreciated Sailor Moon/Kiki’s Delivery Service just fine, they didn’t need to change it”. That is possible, but it mistakes why changes are being made to begin with - its not the “culture of children in the US vs Japan”, its intended market via the medium of distribution.
Kiki’s Delivery Service was released in Japanese theatres in 1989, and it was the highest grossing film of the year in Japan (about ~US$18 million, man do things change). Kiki’s Delivery Service the Disney dub, was....released on VHS in 1998. VHS releases and movie theatre releases aren’t really intended accomplish the same thing. Remember all those direct-to-video Disney sequels? Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride? Cinderella 3: A Twist in Time? Remember how they were all just garbage? Anyone looking back at them today cringes, with a few exceptions. But none of us cringed when we were 8! My partner is a huge Disney fangirl, and when she was young she didn’t even distinguish between the theatre release and the VHS sequels - it was all Disney, you just lined them up and played them in a row as the complete canon. Yes, these movies sucked partially because they were low budget, but they weren’t actually *that* low budget - and not the throwaways your memory probably tells you they were. Lion King 2? Made ~$300 million in net sales, almost as much as the original Lion King’s theatrical run.
What those Disney VHS sequels and Kiki share is the fact that their intended market was *only* children. That is the point of VHS - you put it on for your kids and then go make dinner. Its the virtual babysitter, the kids can loop it while reenacting every scene with their stuffed animals. Movies released in theatres don’t serve that role at all - the parents are paying $15 a head and they are trapped in their seats for the whole runtime. It has to entertain everyone, or you aren’t going to go, or at least not as often. VHS releases sucked because kids don’t care, they actually do enjoy the constant quippy lines and dumb jokes. That is equally true for Japanese kids - its just that Kiki’s intended audience wasn’t Japanese kids, it was “all ages” - a very different category.
The same is true for Sailor Moon, by the way. The idea that kids in Japan could “handle more mature themes like death” unlike American audiences doesn’t hold up quite as much when you look at Disney theatrical releases like the Lion King - Mufasa’s death pulls no punches, but kids didn’t mind. And Japan does have shows like Doraemon that are just as childish as the 90′s western cartoons you remember. Its that Sailor Moon’s audience wasn’t just kids.
Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon aired in March of 1992 on TV Asahi. Asahi was not a kids network, and Sailor Moon did not air in a kid’s block - instead in its “Anime Block”. It aired on Saturdays, at 7:00 PM. For most of its runtime, the 7:30 slot after was held by Slam Dunk, a hyper-serious basketball anime adapted from a manga in Weekly Shonen Jump. You think director Kunihiko Ikuhara was throwing in queer relationships and even trans characters, and every other villian was a half-naked seductress, because it was gonna really resonate with 8 year olds? Sailor Moon was for 8 year olds, yes...and for otaku. So, 15 year olds, lets not exaggerate here. But still, its hype, its success, came just as much from its teen and adult fans as much as its young devotees. Which was intentional - it was *marketed* that way. That's why it aired at 7:00 PM on a Saturday.
Sailor Moon’s original dub, on the other hand, aired on UPN at, yeesh, 6:30 AM?? Then on USA’s Cartoon Express at the much more reasonable 8:30 AM, and later on Toonami at 4:00 PM. All of these are kids slots, to watch over cereal or snacks before/after school while the parents are busy. You do not expect the adult in the room to be watching alongside the kid, or for teens to really be paying attention.
And to cut off the logical objection, a show like Sailor Moon was just not going to get a 7:00 PM Saturday slot in the US in the 90′s. Nor was Kiki going to get a movie theatre release in 1998 of any scale. Movie releases are expensive, Saturday slots are precious, the funding just wasn’t there for something so untested as Japanese anime. There was no demand in the west for it - that demand would only be created later, by a generation who grew up on, well, shitty Sailor Moon dubs and Kiki VHS releases. And what success in the media slots these shows and movies did have are shaped by those market niches.
I don’t want to be over-deterministic on this - at some point Cartoon Network rolled the dice on Cowboy Bebop and Full Metal Alchemist and it worked - maybe they could have done that in 1995 with like Neon Genesis Evangelion, who knows! And of course US children’s cartoons are, beyond market forces, burdened with regulatory moralizing that Japanese media does not have. But I do think these 90′s dub efforts should get the proper context for the constraints they were operating under, and why they existed at all, as they are criticized.

Shinoda’s Instagram Q&A December 2020 - Translated (Some)
Question “It's been a while since you last did one of these!”
Shinoda “Long time no doing, let's do this”
Q “I loved your new song” SND “THX”
Q ”Do you have any preferred eye medicine? My eyes have been aching as of late” SND “Nope  When mine hurt I go to the eye doctor.”
Q ”I want to finish my thesis and plop like a log already.” SND “You can plop like a log once you finish, probably
Q “Nice work with the live stream!! Are your muscle pains feeling any better?” SND “Fortunately   They're all better now.”
Q “The live stream was super amazing. You were ignored so much during the MCs, I felt bad. SND “Normally the others do in fact talk to me quite a bit, normally at least. Strange.”
Q “SHINODADIDYOUGAINWEIGHT?” SND “Some people tell me I look like I lost weight, some people tell me I look like I gained weight. I don't have a scale in my house so I don't actually know but, I think I'm way better than I was earlier this year. “
Q “Why did you scream that "KOOOOOOON" thing during the live stream earlier?” SND “That was a homage to GG Allin”
Q “Are you in contact with Yamada Ryuuichi? (The vocalist and guitarist of Buzz Mothers)” SND “In spring of this year he had hit me up with a "You doing okay?" and I replied with "I'm so-so."
Q “My significant other if telling me they'll commit suicide if we break up. I'm scared, I can't take this anymore. Am I going to become a murderer..😢” SND “A break up merely means to choose not to walk the same path as another anymore. If that's what you desire then there's no need to agonize over their threats so much.  Also you won't be a murderer.”
Q “Your new song was so good! The singing looks so hard though, are you a masochist?” SND “I had written the song with the intent to lessen my workload but it still somehow ended up being crazy fucking difficult. Why does this happen?”
Q “What's in the background of this Instagram story?” SND “This is the jersey I had worn during last year's tour.”
Q “I just learned of you today, I just came to be fan today.” SND “'nice to meet you'”
Q “It's been a while! My senpai with a big dick can't seem to find a job*! That's all I have to say!” SND ”Even though his dick is so big, huhh I guess things can't always go well*”
Q “What are you doing to pass the time these days?” SND “I've been watching Arupi Channel or Kamomental's skits or New York (The comedy duo)’s skits.”
Q “The reading of 伽藍如何前零番地 seems to differ depending on site or person, may I ask the correct reading?” SND “'Garandou Mae Zero Banchi' ....I'm sure?”
Q “It's been a while, I'm happy to see you~! Who are you rooting for in these year's M-1 tournie?” SND “Tokyo Hoteisonn, New York, ???, Oswald, West Land.....    I just can't wait to see everyone.”
Q “It's been 1 year since I graduated, I can't find work anymore and I'm in the gutter everyday. Can I bother you for some words of encouragement? 👼” SND “Back when I first joined Hitorie, my guitar playing was still shit. Often I would go home absolutely pooped. It took me a long time to learn how to play with confidence. Turns out it's kinda important to constantly be figuring out where you're lacking, and never slack off in this front.”
Q “There's huge ass swelling on my wisdom tooth and I'm getting mouth inflammation all at the same time, I really feel the rush of the end of the year. It hurts” SND “About your wisdom tooth, just go to the dentist. About your inflammation, there's this type of gelatin you can coat your mouth with, that stuff's great.”
Q “Did you purposefully ask what time it was during the concert to reference song lyrics?” SND “I was merely interested in the time.”
Q “Would you prefer being with someone whom you love but is tough to be around, or with someone whom you don't love but is fun to be around?” SND “There's more fish in the sea, I don't think it's impossible to find someone you love whom is also fun to be around.”
Q “I also recognized the place you streamed the concert from too! I was getting excited at my desk.” SND “That threw me for a loop, it hit me as soon as I saw it.”
Q “I started reading Ninja to Gokudou. SND “It's fantastic ain't it.”
Q “Do you know Doraemon? If you do then please I would like to know which of his secret weapons you would most like to have.” SND “Memory Bread.”
Q “During SLEEPWALK I was worried that you might trip on your cables, but how is it on your side?” SND “I try to be careful, to a degree at least...”
Q “Do you recommend any Yakuza movies?” SND “The Ninja Dragon“
Q “I got shivers watching your Namid[A]me performance the other day.” SND “I still had stamina at that point in the show.”
Q “You always seem to sweat even when you wear short sleeves, and you were wearing long sleeves during the concert the other day. Were you not hot? SND “Naw, not especially”
Q 'Nana nama mugi, nana nama kome, nana nama tamago' in JP romaji, (lit. Seven raw wheats, seven raw rices, seven raw eggs), is hard to say” SND “Well it's purposefully made to be”
Q “My first love was the author of Inumayuge de Iko, Inazuka Yuuko-sensei. Do you feel me?” SND “You have good taste.”
Q “I got a boyfriend AND broke up with him in the span it took for you to return Shinoda-san!” SND ”Cheers.”
Q “Any artists you're into recently?” SND “BIBI”
Q “You seem to be sticking with the bob haircut?” SND “You're right...”
Q “Do you have the problem with Vans shoes wherein you slip if they get wet?” SND ”I personally haven't slipped much... Not much anyway”
Q “This Sunday I have my first non-virtual concert in 11 months, gimme some supporttt.” SND “Even you, huh. Even you’re gonna stand up in front of a live audience before I do.”
Q “What’s up with the curved edge album cover?” SND “Apparently it’s a bonsai tree”
Q “I can't stand injections, any tips on how to get over my fears?“ SND “Think about how it’s down with the least painful of all the painful things in life, it doesn’t hurt like a crap all that much, and you do it for your health. All in all it’s a plus, it doesn’t fill your heart with pain or anything.”
Q “Do you know any ways for me to get over my ex-boyfriend...” SND “There’s people who push to get a new partner as soon as possible then make a fool of themselves, just to try and get over their ex. Just take care not to do that.”
Q “You’re way too good at guitar?! How are you so good?! I really respect you SND “Icchi of Kaisoku Tokyo is better.”
Q “I can’t get enough of your new song so I set it as my alarm! It plays 7 times every morning!“ SND “Don’t people end up hating the songs they set as their alarm? Is this okay?”
Q “I loved your new song and stream. No doubt your voice sounded like wowaka’s.” SND “Now’s a good chance for me to say this. I don’t know if I sound like him or anything like that but..... Y’know how people can simulate a singer’s style? I didn’t intend to do anything like that either. So then why do people say this to me? I wondered and realized..
When recording backup vocals, it’s standard to follow the main vocalist’s style. So I needed to analyze Leader’s singing to a degree. I had to do that for numbers of songs for numbers of years, so subconsciously Leader’s style must’ve etched itself into my singing style as well. So it’s not that I’m simulating him, it’s that as a result I’ve just managed to simulate him.”
Q “I’m not sure if I should propose to my boyfriend or not. What would make him say yes..” SND “On your left arm write the words “Go register now” “100% registering for a marriage certificate” “Marriage marriage let’s get married”, then casually roll up your sleeves in front of your boyfriend. This is the key to victory.”
Q “Complicated girls all seem to have black bob hair, are there any normal girls with black bob hair out there?” SND “If there was a normal girl with black bob hair, that in itself would be complicated!!!!”
Q “I was so worried about you after you bonked your head with the mic last concert, did you get in trouble with the higher ups for that?” SND “The band ‘SuiseiNoboAz’ smashed their head into their guitars like 100 times, the band ‘my way my love’ smashed into their drums like 100 million times... So that much was child’s play. I didn’t get in trouble.”

Week 9 - Fandom
It was a little difficult for me to consider myself as a fan but that’s because I’m comparing myself to the super fans out there who would literally spend thousands or beyond just to collect items related to anything they are a fan of. So, I gave it some thought. What is it that I like and how much I like those things? I went back far to my childhood to figure things that I could’ve been a fan of or something that I had simply forgotten that I originally was a fan of.
Doraemon. Yes, that cat robot anime. For those who don’t know, Doraemon (the character and also the title of the show) is a blue cat robot that came from the future. Doraemon was sent to the past by Nobita’s (the protagonist) descendant using a time machine to help prevent him from making mistakes, to save him from his bleak future. Doraemon possesses a 4-dimensional pocket which contains cool gadgets from the 22nd century. It’s with these tools Doraemon tries to help Nobita in his daily life. The show normally consists of moral teachings with a touch of educational science (Rei, 2005). A famous show originated from Japan and was made available to many countries including Malaysia. A show loved by many, especially among the Japanese people (mokugyo, 2016).
Tumblr media
This show basically made up most of my childhood and honestly, I was surprised that I had forgotten. This show sparked my love for manga, anime and also drawing. It was my root. I remember collecting and reading every Doraemon manga and watched every single episode and movies that was shown on the television back then. I would buy Doraemon piggy banks, plushies and toys. After remembering all these, I thought to myself, maybe I am like those fans after all.
Media Representation of Fans
Media represents fans as weird, overly emotional, obsessed and childlike. This hit close to home for me. I can remember many moments where people, my parents included, questioning me for still watching cartoons during my teenage years and basically implicating me to grow out of my anime fandom. The sight of me being immersed and invested in the story of an anime appeared weird to them. “They’re just cartoons, not real people”.
There are extremists sure, but that applies to everything in life. There’s always someone who takes things too far and that’s what people should be concern about. But someone enjoying a cartoon show is not all that different from the dramas that they watch on the television. They are not real too. They too, are characters.
A Study of Empathy
We are creatures with empathy. According to Finke (2015), there was a study that found people can generate empathy for people who are different than they are by watching movies and reading books. The study showed that the participants showed greater empathy for definable “outgroups” and helped for better understanding of other people’s perspective.
Isn’t it unfair to “classify” people who show greater ability to empathize with people, weird? I certainly think so. To a certain extend anyway. Some people do go too far afterall.

Fall Anime 2019 Part 2: Fanservice
Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu!
Tumblr media
Here we go. We’ve had some isekai that wasn’t totally bad for one reason or another, but of course that couldn’t last. Choujin Koukousei-tachi wa Isekai demo Yoyuu de Ikinuku you desu, or Choyoyu if you want to be merciful, or High School Prodigies Have It Easy Even in Another World if you want spoilers, is so nakedly isekai that I’m actually kind of confused. You see, usually isekai is about some loser that gets transported somewhere where his mediocrity is overwhelmingly powerful. I don’t like it, but I get it. Choyoyu, on the other hand, is about a bunch of kids that are already hax and get transported to another world where they’re even more hax and also elf girls give them tongue kisses. Is this for people who are so emotionally fragile that they don’t even want to be reminded of how much they suck in their isekai power fantasies? Then again this is written by someone who also thinks that politicians (one of the kids is the prime minister of Japan... yeah) are supergeniuses, and that if you max out journalism, you prestige class to ninja. Yes, it is more or less comedic and so bizarre that it almost seems like an attempt at parody again, but lemme check something real quick...
Nah, I’m all out of benefits of the doubt and running low on fucks as well.
Azur Lane
Tumblr media
So, Azur Lane then. I could tell you all about how it’s a gijinka thing about World War 2 warships, but then you’d say “isn’t that just Kantai Collection” and yes. Not to mention that Azur Lane seems to be more popular than Kancolle now, so either way this isn’t very surprising. So let’s just go over the differences: Azur Lane isn’t almost entirely Japanese ships, and there’s a three-way fight of Axis vs Allies vs Aliens going on. The upshot of this is that Azur Lane is mostly shipgirl(s) vs shipgirl(s) and not everyone vs mobs. And that’s it for the one difference that matters, apart from that it’s a bit more varied than the Kancolle anime was, but that just gives it an uneven tone that swings between Gochiusa-levels of fluffiness and lesbian twincest aircraft carrier villains hamming it up. Characters? We have several dozens of them, thanks for asking. If you play the game or stalk Danbooru/Pixiv religiously, you might even care about them. The (supremely silly) action is technically alright, but doesn’t reach the level of “impressive”, and of course it’s hard to follow with so many obligatory participants. I’d label this one “fans only” and even for them I’d assume it’s just decent at best.
Null Peta
Tumblr media
This is a short about a child genius that misses her (dead?) sister so much she builds a robotic version of her. Several mishaps later and she’s stuck with something that most closely resembles Doraemon if Doraemon was all ara ara and also all mofu mofu (apart from when the spikes come out). As far as wacky children’s adventure comedy shenanigans go, this seems to be fairly agreeable, but where it really shines is how it looks. This season admittedly hasn’t had a real sakuga heavy hitter so far, but Null Peta comes the closest to one since it looks quite dope, especially for a weird random short. 5m/week and nothing too annoying make this one easy enough to follow up on.
Chuubyou Gekihatsu Boy
Tumblr media
Here we have the example of an anime where I would admit that it’s pretty good at what it wants to be, but what it wants to be is just intolerable. This appears to be a reverse harem with the theme of all the boys having some shade of chuunibyou (if you gotta ask, you don’t want to know) going. I even like the protagonist girl, she’s likeable and shows a bit of personality when being exasperated at the gang of incredibly annoying idiots surrounding her. But that’s the problem: In particular “Red”, a genki runt with a sentai gimmick, is a show destroyer all on his own. The others aren’t quite as bad as him but I’d still accept maybe one of them per harem at most. It does alright in execution, visuals, timing and so on (DEEN’s “poor man’s SHAFT” team, cf. Meganebu, seems to be seeking a comeback), but you’d have to be embarrassingly thirsty for idiot dick to put up with this shit.
Val x Love
Tumblr media
Just to prove that I am an equal-opportunity harem h8r, here’s a non-apparently non-reverse one and yes, it also sucks. Not only is it easily the cheapest looking show so far, it’s also reminiscent of the Conception school of harem setup: If you must know, Val x Love is about an ugly ogre of a dude whose lonely house is suddenly stuffed full of Val(kyrie)s (= 9 Japanese harem archetypes because, you know) by none other than Odin himself between cuts. He then has to fight some monsters by cuddling one of the Vals, which unlocks their super or something. Barebones, uninteresting and crappy looking, this one is a real stinker and should be of interest to nobody.
Fate Grand Order - Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia
Tumblr media
It’s the seventh story arc of the hit mobile RPG Fate/grand order! How do I know? Because they talk about how they skipped the previous six ones, presumably because they’re boring. Or more boring, at least. It’s Fate, and I know an embarrassing amount of details about Fate (e.g. enough to know that the Rinclone that appears apropos of nothing is Ishtar), and I’ve even seen First Order (which sucked), but this stuff is impenetrable, yo. This iteration on F/go definitely doesn’t care for people who don’t play the game, rare as they may be, and at best you’re supposed to let the proper nouns wash over you and enjoy the spectacle. It’s just that it’s CloverWorks this time, and while an attempt was made, shit just blows up way gooder over at ufotable. So the spectacle is insufficiently spectacular, and Mash is still insufficiently moe. In the end this does nothing to change my opinion of F/go away from “functionally identical to every insipid homebrew Servant thread on /a/ ca. 2010, also Shiki can kill Servants, discuss″, and I ain’t watching 2 cours of that.
Mairimashita! Iruma-kun
Tumblr media
Iruma-kun is a goodhearted boy whose scumbag parents sell him off to some demon, who then transports him to hell and enrolls him in demon school where demons try to step to him. Isekai and battle harem is my first suspicion, but not so fast! It’s not a light novel, and while the general gestalt of this setup might resemble a certain conical helix, this appears to merely be convergent evolution. In other words, it’s just a funny kid’s manga, and it’s not even bad for that. It’s colorful, moves at a decent clip and I was moderately amused by the antics of Midoriyaface trying to dodge the ol’ KILL BY DEMONS. It’s just that I also know that this is very much not for me, and while it’s better than say, eIDLIVE, I don’t think I want to stick around. Props where they are deserved, though.

Garden by Meiting Song
Hello everyone, welcome to Framing Visual Culture. I am Yi Jing Fly. Today’s guest is Meiting Song, a graphic design and motion graphics artist based in New York and Beijing. Her works exude the fun and exciting energy of early 2000s Asian pop culture and embraces girlishness in their character designs and color palettes. She is currently finishing her final semester at School of Visual Arts (SVA) in NYC.
Meiting talks about how she developed a simple aesthetic for her digital designs through the process of silkscreen printing, finding the relationship between colors blocks. She also shares her influences looking back on the nostalgia of 90s and y2k aesthetic shared between her Asian friends, where the common language of communication is English but the visual language of shared pop cultural knowledge transcends words. Meiting ponders why no one aspires to design the branding of feminine hygiene products, and hopes to one day work on such a project herself, where she gets to design a fun and lovable brand image for such a ubiquitous and important product.
I saw that one of your illustration has been translated to a t-shirt design on Animal Crossing?
Haha, yes. In the beginning I tried to make a pixel art design in Adobe Illustrator, but there is some difficulty as the squared corners become rounded in the game drawing tool. It’s hard to come up with original designs as I have to do a lot of drafts, so what I do more now is to turn clothes already available in stores or others’ designs into digital versions in the game. There are also many accounts (like Nook Street Market) dedicated to making designer fashion and luxury items into Animal Crossing outfits. It also feels great when I can wear a luxury brand I really really like without spending any real money!
What is the situation like for young artists and art students now in NYC with Covid-19? Do you feel less affected since most of your works are digital?
For students in the digital art department it’s pretty much the same, we are used to working remotely on our laptops. But I’m taking a risograph course this semester and I can’t access the studios to work on my prints.
The grad show is also affected, as we usually have a huge event at SVA where we get to present our works to industry experts and network with them. I would say our career prospects are definitely jeopardized.
I especially love the animation series and gifs you’ve been working on lately. They remind me of Chinese paper-cut animation enlivened with simple Internet aesthetic. Can you tell us more about how you developed this aesthetic over time?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I first started out doing graphic design in college I was making a lot of minimal and clichéd designs. We were all inspired by Apple’s aesthetic, but the minimal things I made in the beginning were more unfinished, and I realized I can’t keep doing that.
For the whole of last year I took silkscreen printing classes, and that was where I really challenged myself to think about the relationship between color blocks and each layer I’m making; eventually I learnt the skill of simplifying a very complicated thing. A lot of people like to make complex prints with silkscreen, but that’s not meaningful for me personally. At the time I also looked at a lot of art involving color blocks, and Taiwanese graphic designer Wang Zhihong’s works especially inspired me.
There are strong elements of 90s and Y2K Asian pop-culture in your works, are they from your own nostalgic references?
When I was little I didn’t pay particular attention to the pop-culture I was consuming. It was actually after growing up and meeting many Asian people from other parts of Asia that I noticed these things more. In fact, my inspiration comes more from other people’s sense of nostalgia. For me I watched a lot of Card Captor Sakura, Crayon Shin-Chan, Doraemon, and Hannah Montana. Hannah Montana was actually my fashion icon as a kid. Now I am searching for the songs that were super popular in my childhood, like Jay Chou’s songs, and trying to recall the streets and scenes where I heard them. It brings me a lot of joy doing that.
Another interesting thing I found is that, with my Asian friends, even though we communicate in English, we actually know the celebrity or show we’re talking about, we just don’t know the name in the other language. Communicating this shared cultural experience in English and reaching that moment of connection beyond language is really great!
Fashion and art are very interrelated. Oftentimes we find artists expressing themselves in both their art and fashion, and the aesthetics of both are usually aligned. What kind of clothes are you into right now, and how do they reflect or inspire your creative process?
Right now I’m really into the clothes by designer Rui Zhou (a recent Parsons MFA graduate). I especially like the sinuous lines in her garments, the flow of the curves, as I like round edges. The pearl/ bead element that holds the delicate knitwear together is my favorite part, it almost looks like an exclamation mark! I probably wouldn’t wear the whole look directly over my body, but it’d nice to just wear a piece of the ensemble as an accessory. There are also a lot of singers and celebrities in America that are wearing her clothes in their MVs or photoshoots. I find it interesting that what is indie or non-mainstream is the mainstream in New York.

Ruizhou SS19
I do think that she is one of the designers creating entirely original designs and pushing the boundaries of fashion. You recently did a collab with clothing brand Unif and photographer Monimogi, can you tell us the concept behind that collab?
It began with Moni following me on Instagram, and she liked the Sunrise Mart zine that I made and wanted to collab on something similar for Unif. Sunrise Mart had more of a Shōwa era advertorial aesthetic, with the nostalgic design elements stemming from that time, but for the Unif zine I wanted to make something with a Y2K aesthetic.
Tumblr media

A page from Unif zine
I wanted to make something very “Tai” (corny Taiwanese subcultural style), hence the blings and saturated colors, and the use of Traditional Chinese chracters. They are quite characteristic of early 2000s teenage girls magazines as well. In those magazines you will often find horoscope readings or personality quizzes, and I incorporated that into the Unif zine, by making a quiz for “finding your perfect shoes.” I previously made a quiz for finding out what type of drink you are in Sunrise Mart and my friends told me it was pretty accurate lol.
I also made a series of stickers to go with the zine, adding many elements that I have designed on my own. I also slid in a picture of a glass dildo with a heart shape on the top, and I thought no one would find out since its quite inconspicuous, but Unif side found out immediately and exposed me. But they kept it anyway because they thought it was funny. They’re pretty chill about things.
It took quite a while to make this, from the photoshoot in February to layout design of the zine in March. The Covid-19 situation was worsening at this time, and I had to focus my mind on making this really cute and fun zine when in reality I was being super anxious.
