I'm worry about Akasha and the way the writers handled her plot. Because she gave her blood to Marius, Lestat... in the books, After her death men benefited her power through her blood. I'm tired to watch Black women throw away to prop up mâle characters. The show and the fandom triggered me a lot, they see Louis being a pimp less serious than being a plantation owner, he exploited young black girl but non one care. Louis hurt a lot black women aside from the one he exploited: Claudia, Grace, he didn't even care enough about Lily. What hurt more was Claudia's plot, her only purpose was to make Louis happy and when she tried to free herself, she died. The sexual assault was unecessary. At the end of the season 2, I think all female characters died
I want Akasha to be victorious and alive. I don't care of the books. We deserve at least one female character alive and free and victorious. I know Anne Rice hated all her female character, she even gave their power to Lestat (prince Lestat), but I don't want this in the show. While I find Akasha's fixation on Lestat weird, Anne Rice never wrote lesbian. Like all the female character are straight.
Since the writers make the choice to made Louis black and a former pimp, they should have genderbented Daniel Molloy and put a black woman instead. Her perspective on Louis would have been more interesting specially on Claudia. Instead, we have a white guy who made snarky comment about "black student white master" to the face of a black man who lived understand Jim Crow (go in he'll Daniel) and who is really dismissing about victims of sexual assault : Claudia and Armand. Worse, he called Armand a liar. I suppose, it was asking to much from this show? Since Armand is bisexual, it wouldn't erase much and Daniel is a bit boring. Can't believe he win Pulitzer Price twice. It would made me more comfortable to see a black woman successful. I know the drugs part would be complicated because of the bad stereotype, but still I was picturing Angela Bassett. Yes Daniel suffered a lot with Armand and all but he survived at the end. He's successful. He's a main character.
It's funny they choose to genderbent Antoine as Antoinette Brown and aside from the fact her relationship with Lestat fit the social standard of this time, it was useless. And the writing was awful, honestly I'm indifferent but she totally became dependant of Lestat and almost give up her career, her only income for him. It feel that way. She had more agency before meeting him.
So that's why I'm scared about Akasha's plot and have some hope, but the show seems to follow Anne Rice's footstep about racism and sexism.
(I was waiting to post this for a while bcuz I wasn't sure how I was gonna respond to it. I've decided to post it as it is for this fan's perspective as a fan vent)
